General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.
Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the the PTU system, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves and also may leave you open to an interrupt, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Pokemon and trainers are unique, and may have certain specializations, skills, or other things that the video-game mechanics might not allow. Some examples: That kung fu Bellsprout in the anime, that crystal Onix, or a Roggenrolla that can fly. Herb's perception skills, pokemon knowledge, context clues in general, and other things will hopefully come into play to avoid completely unfair, unforeseeable bullshit, but expect more bullshit from more advanced trainers.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roserade)
Dice (Feraligatr)
Sorbet (Vulpix)
Ghost Pepper (Rotom)

Location: Eelilee Festival grounds

Recently: Herb introduces someone to Abigail, and battles in an amateur contest tournament using Gardevoir
>>
Wooooooooooooooo! Hope you're having a good one Gobble!
>>
Gardevoir begins to summon a slow, swirling wind around herself. The heavy Misty Terrain she summoned earlier hasn’t dissipated much at all. It gives her a haunting image, and gradually cuts her off from the outside world.

Her and you, that is. You’re getting a little closer, cautiously. At the same time, the outside world, and your view of Hana, Abigail, and your pokemon becomes obscured and cut off.

“Gardevoir?” You ask. Your pokemon all assemble at your side, with Mace, Gobble, and Dice at the front, Sorbet at your legs, and Belladonna directly in front of you. Pepper buzzes in closer as well, more out of confusion than anything else.

She’s staring off at nothing

You approach her slowly, and your pokemon follow. She doesn't react when you take her hand.

“Hey, Gardevoir.” You say softly, focusing. “Let me see what’s wrong. I’m here to help.”

You close your eyes and concentrate, putting your aura practice to work. You see some small injuries from her battle, but nothing major. Especially for a pokemon. You glance around with your aura, for lack of a better term. You feel a lot of tension from Mace, Gobble, and Belladonna especially. You subconsciously wave them back a little. They only take one or two steps away.

But Gardevoir though, is a mystery. The tiny rivers of her aura aren’t in a panicky, haphazard flow like you expected. They’re not even what you’d call a mess. They’re just...organized differently. Somehow, the whole thing works.

“Gardevoir, speak to me. How can I help you?”

Non-physical eyes appear and stare into you. You’re the one exploring her aura, but you feel much more naked. It’s startling and sudden.

“Help with what? Oh, I see. You’re afraid of me. Of what I might do.”
>Push away all feelings of fear. Purge it from your own aura

“I’m not afraid of you. I’m afraid for you.”

Her demeanor changes. She looks like a scolding mother. Not your mom, but someone's. “That is selfish, and an awful thing to say. I’m disappointed in you.” You must have a confused look on your face. Or in your head. Or projected through your aura. You’re not sure, there’s a lot going on. But she seems to react to that all the same and follows up. “Your own safety, your own well being, is a responsibility you owe to everyone who has invested time, energy, and their feelings into you. Everyone who has taught you, like your grandfather, did so for a reason. Do not be reckless with your life.”

It’s her voice, but that doesn’t sound like her words. “I trust you not to hurt me. We’re friends.”

“Did you?” She questions. “Are we?”

“Well, yeah. Of course!” It’s true. Just because she might get confused sometimes is no reason to forget such a thing.

Her eyes change again. She seems more familiar, yet still distance. She sighs. “You always shine so brightly. You spread your light. It’s safe in the light. Did you know that? The dark is a place you can hide, but the dark is where many things can hide too. The light blinds those things, and keeps them from sneaking upon you.”

You not along, trying to understand what she’s saying.

“I enjoyed this contest battle. If all the eyes are upon me, it’s as if I shine even brighter, in a way. I want more attention. I’ll create a grand display.”

That sounds a little ominous. But that just might be how her voice echoes sometimes.

>Oh, is she just preparing some sort of show? Alright, you’ll let her do her thing
>It’s someone else’s turn, you need to leave the spotlight sometimes
>Ask her to save that attitude for the next battle, she can show off in that one too

>Not all attention is the same, though. So far you’ve been performing in the context of a show. But now that it’s over, standards are different. Especially as a wild Pokémon, since she may attract the attention of someone who’ll want to capture her if they’re scared of her power.

>Let’s give someone else a turn in the spotlight.

“It’s someone else’s turn now. Sometimes you need to leave the spotlight.”

“I want more attention.” She says firmly. And fearfully. “The dark is not safe. I don’t want to be lost again!” You’re physically pushed a little, jarring you out of your focus. You take her hand again and look back into her aura. Now those rivers are flowing more erratically. The flow of fear runs wider. “I wish to stay in the light! Please, let me stay in this spot of light!”

“It won’t be the same kind of attention.” You pat her hand, using your other to keep Mace and the others back. “The show is over right now. You could make people afraid, or get a bad sort of attention.”

“...I do not wish that.”

“I know. It’s alright. Come on.” You offer your arm, and she takes it. She clings hard, actually.

“I’m confused. I’m always confused. But I always know the light is where things are best. I envy him. He doesn’t know either. He is immune to both.”

She didn’t say it, but you can tell she’s referencing Mace, somehow. Mace waddles alongside you, already looking more at ease. Whenever there’s a situation like this he usually takes all day to really shed that tension. He’s slow to get worked up and slow to let it go.

You let your focus on her aura fade and blink the real world back into existence. You and Gardevoir walking out of what became a tall and concentrated pillar of pink mist, arm in arm, seems to draw a few looks and comments from the crowd.

“Everything okay?” Hana asks as you sit Gardevoir down next to her.

“Yes.” Gardevoir answers instead of you. “It is still bright here. I feel a sunlight within that will sustain, for now.”

“Uh, cool.” Hana says, trying not to sound dismissive. She asks the question again with just her face, directing it at you. You nod. It’s fine. “Well, you made it to the finals. That’s pretty impressive. You uh, got any plans for what you’re doing between battles?”

“Well, I don’t know how much time I’ll have. Did you want to go somewhere private?” You hope she’s doing alright.

She has a smile so scary and distant that the only thing that compares is that one spooky mask Keira has when she doesn’t have time for makeup. She just nods, while slowly opening and closing her hands.

“Okay. I just want to check on a few things quickly and I’ll be right back.” You pat her leg, and she gasps. Wow. She’s really sensitive.

“Please hurry.” She asks politely but quickly. Her voice quivers.

You do so, and quickly move over to see Gardevoir. She looks fine. She sees you looking and gives a nod. “I... am content is feeling the attention through others. I wish to see the next battle.”

Well, that answers that. You move a bit over so you’re closer to Abigail and Akua. They’re chatting up in the small, ad-hoc stands.

“Ahh come on. That’s what pussies would say.” She laughs. He doesn't look too comfortable right now. He’s looking around at anything that isn’t Abigail. He’s looking for an escape from this conversation.

Well, you better not get involved. They don’t need your help. You decide to leave them be and take Hana somewhere private.

“W-we won’t have much time.” She cautions as you rush around the corner and find a storage tent. You have to duck under a folding table to get into a secluded section behind some stacked chairs. The sounds of the festival are enough to drown out some small muttering whispers she says to you. You catch some of it though, and understand it’s a litany of lewd promises. She breaks the handholding, grabs the waist of your pants and boxers, and in one swift motion she yanks downwards.

Riiip! Her metal arm shreds your pants and boxers right off! She slowly holds up about half of what remains of your pants and stares at them, wide eye’d. “I-I’m so sorry!” She whispers loudly. “I thought it would be hot a-and...oh man are you okay?”

You look down at your shoes, blinking. “Yeah. They came apart surprisingly easily.” You thought they had better stitching than that. You have to think quickly. Your final match in the contest battle will definitely require clothes of some sort.

>>3466661
Sure. They’re friends and a few minutes isn’t going to affect her score. I’d also be cool with wearing Hana’s pants if we won’t look like a total cross dresser that makes mainlanders look bad.
>>
>>3466661
Yeah, Val's a bad pick. Let's call Laki if anybody.
>>
You take your pokedex out of the back pocket of the shreds that were you pants as Hana holds them up.

“What are you doing?”

“It’ll be fine. We’ll ask for help. I’ll call Valerie.”

“Dude I’m down for that any other time but I’m going to be really greed- Oh! Pants! That’s a great idea. I’ll call Laki!”

After your call, you were planning on starting things up with Hana and trying to be quick about it. Instead, she takes the initiative.

“What if they find us while we’re in the middle of-”

“Good!” She whispers hoarsely. She keeps an eye peeled through a tiny hole in the tent, but you question if she’s actually paying attention.

Not long after, Valerie’s voice can be heard on the other side of the thin tent. Hana peaks her head, and only her head out. You try to stop, but one robotic leg bends backwards somehow and stops that from happening.

“I didn’t know what you needed so I brought a whole bunch of stuff. Where’s Herb?” You can hear Valerie’s muffled voice ask. “How did he loses his pants? What’s wrong with your fa-...Is...Omigosh! Hana!” You hear the sound of clothes on face. Hana finally releases you and turns around. The spare clothes drop from her face and she presents them. “You better hurry.” She says between exhausted breathes. “Or I won’t let you go again.”

Laki and Keira find you as you sort through the pants. "Oh, you already have something? Good, because all I had was this." She tosses something at you. "Now this looks like an interesting story."

"It's a traditional Loanan kilt!" Keira adds, not hiding where her eyes are going. Laki rolls her eyes but doesn't look annoyed.

>Eh, screw the contest battle

>>
So, re:battle,

I’d like to use Gobble for this one. He’s our only performer who hasn’t had a turn.

I remember him learning the steps to Petal Dance with us, I think that it’d make a good meta-story to hearten back to the start of the tourney with Bella like that.

Plus, Herb can do that dance with him for flash.

Also, I love the aesthetic of Last Resort.

If you’re moving between towers then it’ll change regardless of your bars. Sometimes you don’t even need to be moving for this to happen.

You hike up the normal pants, thanks to both the rapid outcome of embarrassment as well as a little creative tucking.

“So did the contest tournament go well?” Laki asks.

“Yeah! I’m still in it. I actually have to run! I’ll be late for the finals.” You quickly check yourself over.

“Then what were you doing h-” She looks at Hana. “Can’t you wait?”

“You’ve been hogging him!” Hana accuses quietly.

Laki unfolds her arms. “Well, I can’t argue that. Still, have some self control.”

Hana looks a little embarrassed. “Yeah. I should probably talk to Valerie. I’m still never sure where the line is with her since we...uh, nevermind.”

Keira’s eyes do that shiny dinner plate thing towards Hana. “You have so much to teach me.”

You don’t have time to stick around, and quickly rush back to the battle area. Gobble looks relieved to see you. “Thanks for looking after everyone, Gobble.”

He gives a salute.

“Now, who’s going into the next match?” You ask your team. It looks like the match will be starting right way. You see a well dressed Loanan in a well fitting suit and a sharp pair of glasses in your opponent’s spot. He looks serious and professional. Huh. You hadn’t realized how rare glasses are on these islands until now.

You put your attention back on your team. Belladonna looks like she’d be more than willing, but she isn’t actively looking to get your attention to put her in. Gobble looks moderately interested. Dice is just happy to be around. Mace is curious, but you don’t sense any urgency in it. Sorbet looks a little worried, but also a little excited at the idea of going back out. Pepper is hard to get a read on.

“I choose you, Gobble.” You give him a pat on the head.

He looks up, as if asking if you’re sure.

“Of course!”

He’s excited, but he gets up and wiggles a bit. Oh. You see. He’s worried he’s not graceful enough. He’s strong, and he’s confident in his ability to battle, as well as cook, but this is a contest of grace, beauty, and style. And for some reason he thinks he doesn’t have what it takes in those areas to compete.

“You’re worrying too much, Gobble. You’ve got moves. You can dance. And you’re loaded with style.” You adjust his cape. “Look at you.”

He bashfully waves off your assurance.

“I mean it. You’re tougher than year old croutons, too. Smart, too. You’ve got nothing to fear out there. You have all the style, skill, and just pure charisma that anyone could ever ask for.”

He looks pumped.

“Yeah!”

He pumps his fist.

“YEAH!” You do the same.

Belladonna comes up and pats him on the back, saying something that sounds like strong encouragement. It’s accepted as that, too. Gobble gives Belladonna a hard, slapping high five that catches her off guard and causes her to spin. Dice is next, and he’s much more able to handle. Mace blows a gust of soft energy when Gobble tries to high five him, and it acts like slapping hand. That was pretty cool.

“That’s the ticket!” You encourage.

Gobble comes to a stop at Sorbet. She freezes up for a moment, then puts a reluctant paw in the air. He gently taps it, then runs out to the battlefield as giddy as ever. The enthusiasm has a great effect on the judges and audience, even if they don’t really say much. You can just feel that energy in the air.

His opponent is a Primeape. That takes you back to when you first met Gobble in the forest when you were under attack by Mankey’s. Gobble punches his fist, and the Primeape watches with a disciplined, scary glare.

“Begin!” The judges announce. And Primeape already charges. It’s suited trainer hasn’t said anything yet, so it’s either trying to pressure you, or has a move it always uses first. At least that’s what you’re assuming.

>Start with Metronome
>Lick when it gets close
>Start with Amnesia to protect from Special attacks
>Slug it down with a Focus Punch
>Start with a beautiful Sunny Day dance
>Give a series of blows with Chip Away
>Fling his scarf at his opponent
>Open with a surprise Surf attack
>Use Odor Sleuth so it can’t evade
>A simple Tackle might be just what you need
>Something else

>Give a series of blows with Chip Away
A rapid consecutive series of punches will likely give us an advantage, especially if we outdo the Primape in what's supposed to be "It's thing".

“Chip Away! Show them your quick jabbing skills!”

“Scratch.” Your opponent calmly commands. The Primeape skillfully delivers a scratch as he zooms around Gobble. Gobble tries to counter attack with a series of rapid jabs from Chip Away, but the Primeape largely blocks and dodges it, only letting a fraction of the damage come in. There’s no clean hit.

You don’t need to look at the judge’s panels to know your side came out losing points on that. Gobble keeps his fists up though, ready to keep trying and not easily discouraged. The superior skill and speed of his opponent is obvious though. Gobble’s no slouch, but this Primeape gives the impression of being a kung fu movie star. The Scratch, while not a powerful move, was extremely clean and appealing. He’s showing off.

>Take away his agile advantage with Body Slam!
>Fall back on Metronome
>Take away his cool with a Lick
>Charge with a full bodied Tackle
>Try Defense Curl
>Try Screech
>He must have picked up Rollout by now
>Fling your scarf at him
>Something else

Try and go for the paralyze, take his speed, and mess with our opponents mind.
>>

>Something else.
Take a moment to let the opponent come to you to try and attack before you
>Take away his agile advantage with Body Slam!
This way, the opponent is already committed, and we can punish them for their arrogance.

“Fury Swipes.” The calm, coolness of your opponent makes it sound like a surgery. You suppose that in a way, that’s how he sees this battle. There’s certainly no passion or excitement coming off of him.

A quick, long, rapid series of swipes rack across Gobble, batting his head and protective fists around. He manages to keep a decent defense, though. A pokemon that is less skilled with hand to hand combat like this could easily get overwhelmed.

“Wait for it...” You tell Gobble as he absorbs and deflects some blows, and takes an occasional blow the hard way. “Not yet...”

Gobble has the iron will and discipline to stand there taking it as Primeape gives swipe after swipe, the skill to mitigate a decent amount of the damage, and the trust in you to let this situation drag out.

Primeape begins to get sloppy and slow.

“Now! Body Slam!”

Gobble throws his arms wide, opening his defenses and throwing himself at Primeape. He lands the attack and bounces off the Fighting type. He catches himself and lands upright, and his opponent has to flip back up from being knocked down like that.

It doesn’t look like you paralyzed him, but you managed to knock a lot of points, and some wind, out of Primeape. Primeape throws up it’s fists professionally, but the glare in it’s eyes show clear anger. The time for toying with Gobble is over.

[That’s it for tonight. Thanks for coming. I have the Polu bin in the works and should have it ready by next weekend. I know that’s a long timeframe and you’ve been waiting forever, but I have an extremely important thing this week I need to prepare for so it will be taking a bit of a backseat.]

One more move and we can last resort.
Should we Focus Punch next? It’s our signature.

You know, we should probably teach Gobble Zen Headbutt so he can cover his one weakness.
