Cover-art kindly provided by our noble artiste, Draw-anon, who kindly took time off repainting the Sistine Chapel for us. Look upon our prettyboy protagonist. Look upon his devilish smile and despair.

In last thread’s episode of One Piece Genuine Pirate Quest, our accurately named mysterious hero MYSTERIOUS HERO ARTHUR woke to find himself a temporary guest of the ferocious and cunning Strawhat Pirates, along with the King of Snipers, Sogeking, which conveniently translates to Sniper King. What a coincidence! Also, they’re in THE SKY.

Shockingly enough, it appears that genuine pirate Arthur may not even be a pirate at all, as the evil Devil Child, Nico Robin, has discovered him reporting to a Marine! Could it be that our Mysterious Hero is truly a hero of JUSTICE?!

We now return you to your scheduled idiocy.
>>
>the interrogation begins

“So Pajaya,” you politely begin, making your way to the front of the parade of CRIMINAL SCUM, “Skypiea sounds pretty self-sufficient. Do you guys have a lot of industry here?”

While it’s not as detailed as Curly’s lecture on Alabasta, the man happily gives a rundown on how different clouds are used to make different things - and how earth, or vearth as they call it, is beloved for its ability to grow trees and crops. That’s.... fascinating, although frankly, you were more interested in potential sky candy, something Chopper is only too happy to hear about as well.

Yes. They have candy. It’s made from the sugar in fruits, and not in huge amounts - candy here is an uncommon treat, and fairly expensive, but you’re sure you can find a way to buy some, somehow. Maybe someone wants some sword lessons?

“We’ll figure out a way,” you tell the child, giving him a determined thumbs up. He nods at you in agreement, face stubborn (and cute).

The next thing you find out, as you hammer Pajaya with questions, is about the shells, which drags everyone’s attentions in. A thorough explanation of most of the dials ensues, and it turns out the pretty shell you picked up on the beach was a Breath Dial. It’s only palm sized, not big enough to power the waver or similar, but you’ll probably find a use for it.

... Or sell it for candy. That’s a use, right?

In any case, as soon as you reach their home, various dials are displayed, which you eye in interest. Lamp Dials would save a lot of trouble on ships, without having to worry about fire or electricity, let alone Heat Dials for cooking. Maybe you should try to bring a few back with you?

In any case, your main priorities are to

>Get back down to the Blue Seas
>Get Chopper away from the pirates
>Find out how the Strawhats are connected to the Revolutionaries
>Get some useful Dials to take back
>Kill at least one or two of the Strawhats while you’re here (any in particular?)
>Figure out what the hell is up with that Sogeking dude

>>3477724
... Why would throwing cannonballs have anything to do with using a bastardised meteor-hammer type weapon?

>

You collapse into a chair, to take a moment to figure things out, while the Strawhats seem to be... overly enthusiastic. You’re not sure what their cook feeds them (and he’s currently investigating the contents of the kitchen), but it certainly seems to be working for their energy levels. The Witch Thief is still riding the waver outside, while everyone else admires the household Dials, or talks among themselves.

Sogeking seems to be quite happy to place himself as part of the conversation, but you can’t help but be aware you’re... not exactly stand-offish, but clearly an outsider. Not that getting too involved is good, of course - you don’t want to slip up and say something suspicious or odd - but you should probably try to get yourself involved. Even if you’d rather just collect a load of these useful Dials and get back on the ground.

Rescuing Chopper... will probably have to go on the backburner, unfortunately. With Nico Robin onto you, it’s too much risk. Even arresting the Strawhats is unlikely, with her on guard and likely looking to win their trust.

>magical princess pirate-chwan

You cast your attention over to Princess Vivi, the one who may not have caused this whole mess, but certainly helped it along. If she hadn’t taken up with the Strawhats... well, you don’t know what would have happened to Alabasta, but she, Kohza and Carue wouldn’t have decided piracy was a great idea, and maybe Nico Robin wouldn’t have joined either.

Like, seriously... what the crap is Nico doing here. Hmm?

“You’re Princess Vivi, right?” You make sure to keep it casual, innocent-sounding. Definitely not like you want to arrest her, no sirree!

“Ah, yes,” she sounds a little embarrassed by the fact. “But right now, I’m not a prin-“

“She’s a prisoner,” Kohza butts in, arms folded where he lounges on another chair.

“Kohza!”

He stares at her pointedly, an impressive act considering his sunglasses. She slumps back, looking annoyed. “Yes, that’s right. The Strawhats are holding me prisoner.” .... That’s a blatant lie. That’s definitely a blatant lie.

“Ooookaaaaay,” you respond, mildly confused. Do they really think anyone’ll fall for that?

The princess smiles at you apologetically. “It’s complicated.”

“No it isn’t. You’re a hostage.”

“KOHZA!” She reaches over to smack his arm in a decidedly non-hostage manner. “I doubt Arthur’s going to report anything to the Marines!”

Hahahahahahaha yes of course not hahahahaha. You try to look innocent as Kohza tilts his glasses down to glare at you properly. “I’m sure he has nothing interesting to tell them.”

>hahahahahakiiiiiiiiii

You take the opportunity to flip your Observation on, finding yourself afloat in a goopy ocean of emotions. You’re getting a little better at picking them out though, despite the relatively close proximity of the Strawhats, especially when you minimize your range to just the room.

Interestingly, there seems to be a dark thread of guilt-shame-sadness in the air - quite a bit of it, at that. Still, not your business or problem to work out who it belongs to; you focus on picking out Vivi’s emotions instead.

“What was up with Alabasta, anyway? I dunno how much of the news was just bull.”

Vivi and Kohza look at each other in a way that communicates beyond words. They both feel... like the Spring after a long Winter.

“Also complicated,” she admits. “Most of what the news reported was right, amazingly... Sir Crocodile was leading an organization called Baroque Works to try and overthrow my father. The combined forces of the local rebellion, Strawhats and Marines dealt with it, and... Luffy and Firefist Ace disposed of Sir Crocodile himself.”

“Can’t say I’ve ever heard of a pirate crew teaming up with Marines, before,” you say lightly.

“Well - it’s not like they were actively working together...”

“The Marines worked separately, though I guess they helped,” Kohza clarifies, sounding disgruntled to admit it. Dick. That’s what Marines are there for! Maybe you dumbasses should have asked for help in the first place?! Shitheads!

“I see...” you lie. “And Strawhat Luffy helped with Crocodile, huh? I read that was all Firefist.”

“Yes, Luffy took him on first.” Vivi brightens, obviously eager to sing her savior’s praises. “Unfortunately, he wasn’t quite strong enough the first time, though he succeeded in delaying him somewhat... but during their rematch, he injured him. Although considering how easily Firefist killed Crocodile once he appeared, I guess it makes sense the Government would attribute the entire fight to their new Shichibukai.”

“Not like they could admit any pirate helped,” Kohza adds, which is true. “But most of the Strawhats were involved in taking down Crocodile’s men - except for Roronoa, obviously.”

>They did a lot for your country, huh?
>Roronoa... wasn’t he arrested?
>So the Marines didn’t do much?
>Other?

Vivi nods, gratefulness-relief-joy bubbling happily from her emotions. “Of course, the rebellion, the Marines and Firefist all did their part... but the Strawhats did a great deal to end Crocodile’s threat faster and more safely than it could have been.”

“Even though she’s a prisoner,” Kohza mentions.

“... Even though I’m a prisoner, yes.”

“So what about you, Arthur?” Kohza leans forward, and you feel his attention sharpen and fix on you, alert. “U- Sogeking said your ship and crew were dealt with by Vice-Admiral Garp, right?”

You let your eyes glaze over, as you sink into the horrible, terrible past of That Day, trapped in the classroom as... no...

“Cannonballs,” you whisper, seeing them smash through the walls around you, hear the screams of your classmates, the crunch of bones. “Cannonballs... everywhere...”

“...... Are you okay?”

“Whu-?” You blink back to reality. “Yes! Yes, I’m fine! Just... remembering.” You shudder, unable to prevent it. “Actually, a couple of my crew survived, but pretty much, yeah. I already got in contact and let them know I was up in Skypiea.”

“Y-you have a crew?” Vivi looks and feel horrified and guilty, Kohza surprised. “Sogeking said that Usopp told him your crew was - well, I suppose you were drunk at the time - I’m very sorry!”

“I’m sure he wouldn’t have brought you here if Usopp had realized you still had some crew,” Kohza says, sighing. “Sorry, Arthur. You should probably mention that to Sogeking and Luffy.”

“It’s fine. Not exactly expected, but I guess he misunderstood,” you admit. “It was kind of Usopp to try and look out for me, anyway...even if it WAS by handing me over to Sogeking and the Strawhats.”

“He certainly has good intentions,” Kohza muses, his blank face hiding the amusement you feel from him.

“Yeah... I hope he and his crew are doing okay. He said they wanted to come up here, so I guess they’re missing out.”

“..... I’m sure they’re fine.” Man, Kohza feels REALLY amused. That’s kind of insulting, though you’re not sure if he’s feeling it about you or poor Usopp. Even Vivi feels like she wants to bust out laughing. Rude.

The fact that Garp would tear the fuck out of Marineford followed by Mariejois.

I'm betting the assumption there was that the child would grow up to be as bad or worse than Rogers... but if he's grown up to join the Marines, you kind of lose your argument there, unless you're like Akainu and think everyone with a drop of pirate blood is evil.

To be frank, I think the Gorusei are smart enough to know he's more useful to them alive and loyal than dead and starting a civil war. Sure, he's a D, so they won't let him become Fleet Admiral, but even Garp was offered Admiral position, and Saul was a Marine officer too, so it's not like they're opposed to D's serving them. Just trouble-making ones like pirates.

Anyhoo, tallying and writing.

"So what's Luffy's deal anyway? He seems like an idiot, but it sounds like he had a fair shot at beating Crocodile, and he saved your country but kidnapped you?"

Vivi and Kohza give each other one of Those Looks again.

"Well..." Vivi slowly begins, "He's certainly not - conventially intelligent? But he arm a right through to the heart of things -" With his animal cunning, no doubt. "- and he's a strong fighter! He definitely would have won against Crocodile the second time, I'm sure - but his bro- but Firefist intervened, so he didn't have to."

You ignore the slip-up. "And kidnapping you...?"

"Vivi's father won't pay the ransom," Kohza says. "So we'll see how he feels as time passes."

... Yeah, they don't expect anyone to believe them. They're paying the bare minimum of lip service to her being 'hostage'.

"But! Even so, Luffy did a great deal to save Alabasta!" The wide smile on the princess' face perfectly matches the cheer you feel from her. Whether it's true or not, it's honestly what she - and Kohza- believe.

"I can't say I ever thought good things about pirates before the Strawhats, but they definitely changed my mind," Kohza admits, allowing a faint smile to show. Ah, one of those dramatic, 'I gotta look manly and cool at all times' type of guys. You'd be annoyed, but Smoboss is one of those, so you have to be loyal and not have any opinions on it.

... It's totally dumb.

In any case, you certainly have food for thought.

Prepare to discover your talents in poison!

>foooooood

Winding down the conversation, you next head over to the kitchen, where the villainous Cheapshot Sanji is currently beginning to prepare some kind of lobster dish. The ingredients certainly all look good, you have to admit, and there looks to be plenty to go around.

"Can I help out any?" You lean over the countertop as he eyes you. "I'm feeling kind of useless, and it seems only right to assist in some way."

Cheapshot clicks his tongue as he washes a bowlful of vegetables. "Its nice to get an offer of help for once, and there ARE a lot to cook for... you have any experience?"

"Nothing beyond the basics, but I can do simple prep."

He doesn't look pleased by that, but after a few moments, you apprently pass the test of 'this guy can't mess up TOO bad, right?' and get pointed in he direction of various vegetables, with instructions on precisely how thin to slice or dice them.

Oh, and you're firmly ordered to wash your hands thoroughly first, because ladies will be eating. You're not sure why the women apparently have weaker immune systems than the guys...

Turns out, you're pretty good at this. Okay, it's just rinsing stuff and chopping it, but you're handy with a knife, and after a few checks on you, Cheapshot decides you're 'not too bad, better than some of the idiots at the Baratie', and leaves you to it.

You think that's a compliment? Maybe? He does feel mildly pleased...

>teach me, Gordon Ramsey

"Don't suppose you can manage a cooking lesson while we're at it?" You try not to sound too demanding, but there's two points in your favor - firstly, cooking apparently makes Cheapshot happy and relaxed, judging by the emotions you feel bubbling off him, and secondly, you've won his approval in the field of chopping things up.

You're not really sure how hygienic it is for him to smoke while he cooks, though.

"I'm not letting you touch the trickier stuff, but sure," he says, not even looking at you as he measures out some spices. "How about I tell you what I'm doing and why as I go along?"

"Sounds good!" You push the bowls of chopped vegetables aside like he directs you, and move beside him to watch and listen as he works through the seafood.

You have to admit... he's really good. Smooth, practiced movements, even though he admits these types of food and spices are new to him - with a small taste, he knows exactly how much of what to add, and can even vary it according to individual crew members' tastes or nutritional needs, adding or removing various types from each plate assigned to the crew.

Damn pirates probably eat better than on your own ship, judging by the smell coming off the seafood, not fishy but light and enticing.

(Cooking +7! Also bonus for double 69... I'll figure something out. If you pull another 69 in Cooking or by same anon, I'll figure out something reeeeally good.)

Yeah, you feel like you've learned a good bit - Cheapshot has to explain how cooking with regular ovens varies from cooking with Heat Dials, and how different spices are similar to Blue Sea ones, but he honestly sounds happy to have a willing audience.

You have a suspicion that no-one else helps out with the cooking on board, proven when Roronoa wanders over and demands to know if there'll be any booze with the meal.

"None for freeloaders!" Wow, Cheapshot sure snapped to pissed off fast. "Maybe help out a little instead of lazing around, Mosshead!" Heh. Mosshead. Nice.

"Like you'd even want me helping," Roronoa scoffs, sounding both bored and annoyed.

"Of course I wouldn't! You're too dumb too realize you don't know jack shit, you'd probably poison us all! At least this guy wants to learn!"

Just finished Marineford and can confirm, no he does not. Word from Ods actually, that Usopp is the bad influence in those matters. "It's a handy skill to have... for any adult, let alone pirates who might not have access to markets with food they know and trust," you point out.

Cheapshot nods eagerly, smiling widely. "That's it exactly! Everyone should know how to cook at least a few things well, rather than sitting around drinking all day and then expecting to be fed."

"Oh yeah?" Roronoa does that damn smug look again. "I don't see the women helping either..."

"OF COURSE THE LADIES SHOULDN'T WORK, YOU NEANDERTHAL!!"

Deciding discretion is the better part of valor, you step back from the ensuing bickering, and focus instead on slapping Strawhat's rubbery arm away as it 'discreetly' stretches to try and grab food. You suspect people would kick up a fuss if you tried to cut his hand off.

"Macarons!" Your answer is immediate. Your eyes are sparkling. Your drool is... not quite falling, but certainly forming.

Cheapshot pauses. "You really like macarons, huh?"

"I like anything sweet," you immediately say. "But macarons are something I haven't had in... wow, a long time."

"I'm not surprised, they aren't great for a firat-timer," Cheapshot comments, starting to pull open cupboards to look through. "They're hard-mode for most bakers, you really need to pay attention to the humidity and adapt the ingredient measurements - even a slight moisture difference in the air can throw the recipe off. We can probably do it though, looks like they have most of the stuff needed."

He starts tugging out various packets as though this is his own kitchen, and you feel the relaxed cheeriness emanating from him. Why is this guy a pirate instead of a chef? "All right - you'll help out with this, but follow my instructions exactly. I'll step in and take over if it looks like you're gonna fuck up, got it?"

You manage not to salute (too Marine), and give a thumbs up instead. "Got it, head chef!"

... He's totally preening. "Head Chef, huh? All right, lemme show you how to measure temperature and humidity, then we'll weigh these out..."

>92 + 14 = 106, NOICE. Or maybe SWEET.

The main course is served up, everyone digging in except for you and Cheapshot. Or Chefshot. You can't even bring yourself to care - he isn't eating either, insisting both your focuses should be dedicated to making dessert, and you see his point.

It should take longer to make the macaroons apparently, but the chef has a whole host of shortcuts he lets you in on that don't cut down on the quality - and though he helps organize you and instructs you in what to do and when, you find yourself picking everything up quickly, never having to be told anything more than once.

"You ARE good at this," Cheapshot approves, eyeing the nearly complete macarons with an air of impressed pleasure. "They're not perfect, but you could serve these in a decent restaurant. You sure you've never done this before?"

"I just have a way with sweet things, I guess," you suggest, trying not to be flattered by the words of a pirate. You're good at paperwork, but no-one makes much of a big deal over that except for Smoboss, and you're good at weaponry, but everyone kept trying to keep you FROM combat for so long.

It's kind of nice to be good at something and just get straight-up complimented for it. Especially from an obvious expert.

"If I end up cooking more often before you go, you can help out a little," Cheapshot decides, shoving dishes into the sink. "I don't get much help usually, because I wouldn't trust most of the crew in my galley in the first place -" (you suspect he means the men) "- but you're not awful., shitty-guest."

>>
>sudden interruption!

"You like teaching others how to cook as well?" You can't help but be curious; seriously, judging from his skill and his emotions while he cooks and bakes, piracy shouldn't be his career. He's utterly wasted on a pirate ship. Did they kidnap and Stockholm the crap out of him? Strawhat does have that cunning charm that's won the Princess and Kohza over, and you don't doubt he'd make a special effort for such a good cook.

"I used to work on the Baratie, a floating restaurant back in East Blue," San- Cheapshot says, as the two of you clear up. "Back there, even though I had to teach the other chefs plenty, those assholes still kept treating me like a kid. It's nice to get some actual appreciation for a lesson."

You sigh. "Yeah, I understand the lack of respect thing." At first Smoboss though photography was stupid, and would rather have you fighting - then as soon as you actively WANTED to go fight, it was all, oh noooooo, too dangerous, stay back, why are you even here? "It's like people have this one, static view of you, and no matter how much you changed improve, they keep looking at you like you were when they first met you."

Sanji nods sharply in agreement. "Exactly! I was a better cook than any of them, but just because I was ten or twelve or fifteen when I first met them, it's like they permanently locked me into their minds as some dumbass brat who couldn't tell the difference between terroires, or stuff a five-bird roast properly. Assholes."

You have no idea what a terroire is, but as you open your mouth to ask, some of the Strawhats pause in eating their macarons to peer in alarm out to sea.

"Hey - where's Nami?"

THAT grabs Sanji's attention. As a matter of fact, he very suddenly isn't even beside you any more, snapping into place at the balcony as he leans out to see. "NAMI-SWAAAAAAN?! WHERE IS SHE?!"

If we do get the (highly unlikely) chance to eat Enel's fruit.
Do we?
It's easily an Admiral level fruit.
Lightning would also be hotter than fire, generally, so Ace isn't as threatening (that is, if he isn't a corpse.)
Also being able to literally flash around would be cool.
Enel only lost to Luffy because of overreliance on his fruit and overconfidence.
His theoretical bounty is HUUUGE.
>>
>>3478650
Bonus points in that we can get the nickname Shocker.
Almost the same word as Smoker.
Also we can electrify our chains if we bind an opponent.
Also *railgun cannonballs*
>>
>>3478650
Provided we even get a CHANCE to eat it. I'd go for it. The Flashman with actual lightning would he amazing. It'd shore up his defenses and synergize with his weapons perfectly. It's definitely a gamble and something we should consider, but ultimately unnecessary with all the bullshit we pull normally. There's no need to go full power sperg with it, but yes we should eat the fruit. My thoughts at least.
>>
>>3478659
>Railgun cannonballs
...We must do it now. For Garp.
>>
>>3478650

>>
>>3478674
Acid Logia didn't synergise well with our abilities at all.
What if we hurt our own weapons?
>>
>>3478650
I'll vote for it. I kind of feel like Flashman would do it just to make sure none of the Strawhats get bullshit lightning powers.
>>
>>3478585
That whole bit with Cheapshot was really nice, thank you. I really enjoyed it. That being said
>Sounds like filthy pirate business! Just relax and keep cleaning up.
Much as I'd like to run out, leaving dishes behind is gross. And we're the new guy. Basically our job.
>>
>>3478650
You know, there aren't many fruits on Skypeia. . . They said they make candy from fruits but its expensive and limited quantity. If we can get a fruit and carry it or put it near Enel, the chances of their being another fruit nearby are much smaller than on other islands probably. . .
>>
>>3478650
In a heartbeat. It’s a god tier fruit, and wouldnt carry the stigma of not knowing what it was like with the acid fruit. I mean, WE knew what it was, but IC Flashy was apprehensive because it could have been anything. With the Lightning fruit, we’d have a strong idea atleast.
>>
>>3478650
I also like the idea because it goes with Flashman's name :P
>>
To be honest, if we manage to get our hands on the lightning fruit, I will be voting for giving it to Sunglasses, just for shits and giggles.
>>
>>3478772
He needs the base base fruit to go with Hat.
>>
>>3478650
Honestly? Yeah 100 percent. Enel's fruit is insanely powerful, the fact he met the one guy that couldn't be hurt by his lightning is 1 in a million, and Flashman gets pashed this by being capable with multiple weapons and hakis. I would feel like a total dumbass if we didn't eat the fruit, it's just too good. Plus used creatively and it would synergies well with our metal weaponry when needed.
>>
>>3478674
Acid fruit was potentially harmful to our equipment, we didn't know what it was IC so it would be fair for Flashman to be hesitant, and wouldn't work too well with our fighting style. Lightning on the other hand is insanely powerful, and Enel spent the entire arc absolutely wrecking everyone with virtually no effort whatsoever and it took a guy made entirely out of rubber and therefore completely insulated to beat him.
>>
Regardless of pilfering the Overpowered Rap God's devil fruit or not I do wonder how Enies Lobby will play out if we do end up somewhat befriending the Straw Hats here.
Because god fuckin damn it is the reason behind them wanting to kill Robin is retarded and totally against what I see Flashman's sense of justice being.
>ok so we did the equivalent of nuking an island full of archaeologists because they might read the wrong thing and might use the knowledge they might have managed to find to activate superweapons they might find
>and then we try to hunt down the only survivor, an 8 year old girl, for 20 years so we can kill her
How the fuck any marine can think the World Government is a good thing after learning about Buster Calls I don't fucking know.
WHY CAN'T THEY BE RECALLED?
WHY DO THEY REQUIRE NO CONFIRMATION?
WHAT IF YOU FALL DOWN DURING A FIGHT AND THE BUTTON IS PUSHED ACCIDENTALLY?
>>
>>3478650
without a doubt
>>
>>3478835
The whole removing evidence of people's existence ain't new, government used to do it on the regular, before the media caused us to be too busy shouting at each other.

Buster call is still bad, especially due to how easy to activate it is and how location dosen't matter
>>
I completely support the eating of not!Eminem's Fruit just for the mental image of Flashman literally jumping off of Skypea and turning into Lightning to avoid splattering on the (possible) ground below
Bonus points for landing near/in front of Smoboss and/or Tashigi
>>

Such a cool fruit wasted because it's owner was a jobber and RUBBERLOL.
>>
>>3479363
I have a question that I wonder if Flashy knows the answer to.
... Do the Marines even have jurisdiction in Skypiea?
>>
>>3479371
Once upon a time the WG did, back when it was all one island in the Grand Line. Presumably they no longer have jurisdiction over Skypiea or any of the Sky Islands, or they'd definitely be exporting Dials. I can't believe they don't know of the existence of sky islands though, because that's just ridiculous.

Three options - one, someone with pull (perhaps a CD) is keeping the WG from taking it over. Two - the Sky islanders have managed to keep Dials a secret from the WG, so the WG thinks there's nothing useful there, and refuses to pay the tithe to the CD, so they don't come under the WG's rule. I'd be amazed at the secret keeping ability there, but it's theoretically plausible, considering how entire islands seem to manage to keep secrets in OP anyway.

Three is that they tried to invade at some point, got their arses kicked, and then decided they had bigger problems elsewhere and it wasn't worth bothering with them.

I mean, it COULD just be that there's a cloud cloud user in the WG who has a summer home in the sky and forbade anyone from starting a war up there because it'd ruin his vacations, but probably not.

Regardless, as far as Flashy knows, the WG has no jurisdiction in the sky, although he has considered that it's just classified.

In other news, as you probably won't find it out in-quest, Pink Flamingoes were originally created on a sky island. Yes, it literally comes from angels. This was cunningly foreshadowed when you suggested this to Captain Usopp earlier.
>>
>>3479384

To be fair to Enel, he comboed his fruit with his Observation Haki to get Island Wide surveillance, which is more than anything Smoker/Crocodile did
>>
>>3479412

>>
>>3479417

>>
I am rewatching the old episodes and they were not kind to Zoro. Every single fight he has all the way up to Arlong Park is with him either heavily injured or weaken somehow, and the one fight he has where he is at full health is against Mihawk.
>>
Having reread early manga for obvious reasons, I'd also like to point out that Zoro was so damn smart and cunning nearer the beginning. Not that he doesn't show some of it in later chapters, but he definitely outthought his opponents rather than just hurhur make big sword slash hurhur. While he's very blasé about many things, he's a cunning fucker, and I hope that's coming through inquest.

Although Skypiea is kind of weird, because Enel shocks Robin, to which Zoro goes 'She's a woman!'. Like... no shit, Mr I Believe In Equality For Female Swordsmen. She's not exactly a defenceless civilian, either. The hell was that about?

"She's not on the sea..." Sanji worries, peering out, as you head to look for yourself.

"Well, she's probably just out of sight," Vivi speaks up reassuringly. Conis and her father look less believing.

"Father, will it be all right?"

"I have a bad feeling too..."

Strawhat butts in, still chomping on macarons. "What? What you talking 'bout?"

Conis answers, visibly worried. "In Skypiea, there's one place that no-one should ever enter. That place is close to this island... with a waver, one can reach there very quickly."

Her father clarifies. "The place that no-one should enter is the the Holy Land, the Upper Yard, where God lives."

"God is there?! In the place no-one should ever enter?!"

"Yes! The God's land is ruled by the almighty God Enel!"

...... It's definitely a cult. You've landed in a cult. Do they do human sacrifice? Ohhhhh boy...

And why does Strawhat look and feel so excited?!

"That's forbidden, Strawhat! God himself decrees it! You can't enter!" You tell 'im, Sogeking! Stop the little shit from getting everyone killed!

Well, he can get most people killed. Just not you and Chopper.

Strawhat slowly nods, still looking thrilled. "I definitely won't go... it's not allowed... to the place no-one can go..."

He... definitely wants to go...

"Mm, but even if we go, God will forgive us, right? Because he's so nice?"

Conis immediately sets the dumbass straight. "But that's disrespecting the rule set by God."

To be honest, observation haki fight would be like a tournament duel with Fop, only five times worse, both parties countering each other moves before they even happen.
The result would be them just standing there, looking at each other for a minute or two before one of them keels over from overuse.

"Pffft... 'God'." You reach up to tug on your cap, even as you consider the best way to fortify the Strawhat's ship once the Captain tries to take over the cult and steal all their money. You should definitely try to grab Chopper, if possible.

"Please don't anger God Enel!" Conis waves at you frantically, paling. "We don't even know if she went there, but even just insulting God will make things problematic!"

"We still need to find Nami-chwan," Sanji insists, obviously panicked as well. You doubt he gives a crap about pissing off the cult leader, though.

"How about I have a look at the waver of yours? It might be fixable," Pajaya offers, which Strawhat gladly accepts. When the hell did they get a waver? When did they menti- oh, probably either on the way here, or when you were calling Smoboss. Oh well.

Benedict is the lumberjack guy, but I recommend picking Miyu for the starter 2nd character, or maybe Pom if you want a healer. (Pick Benedict, pick Benedict, pick Benedict.)

>GOING MERRY/INSANE with a 98

You’re just glancing around the deck, totally not planning how to hold the ship against an army of pissed off cultists - the rest of the Strawhats aren’t too far, you won’t risk sabotaging anything right now - when you catch a flicker of something in your Haki,

You pause.

That was.. a presence? Emotions? But on board the ship, close-by, and aren’t you alone?

Your hand drifts casually towards Ka-tan, even as you focus more on your Haki.

A presence...cues. A BIG one. Faint, yes, but spread out wide. If you were at sea, you might think there was some kind of massive sea king or whale beneath, but docked?

You can’t see anything, but the presence doesn’t so much linger as exist, dispersed but ever-present, simultaneously ephemeral and solid, which is (by the way) totally impossible. The emotions are hard to discern, as well - you can’t read animals, but this isn’t quite human, something twisted off at an angle, stunted in some ways, deeper in others. It’s peaceful-calm-watchful, filled with quiet pride and acceptance.

It feels... nice.

It’s the first gacha I’ve ever seen where the MCs have actual personalities. Usually I ditch them because I just don’t care about the characters, but not this one! >50 + 15 = 65, decidedly average, but still a technical success. Slightly.

You pump up the Haki, harder, louder, faster, stronger. Or something. At the same time, you use it to... ‘poke’ the presence’s own Haki. A gentle nudge, which doesn’t seem to be noticed at first.

You shove harder.

A flicker of alertness tells you THAT one was felt. You feel it become cautious, but whatever it is, it can’t use Haki itself. It knew something happened, though.

“... Mr Ghost? Miss Ghost?” You speak aloud, careful for any sign of something spooooooky. “I don’t mean any harm...”

Ex-Strawhat? Murdered Marine? Goddamn ghosties and ghoulies....

The presence at least seems to pay attention to you properly now, flickering faded amusement at your words. So it CAN hear you, at least.

As you feel it regard you - not your Haki, it still seems obvious to that, but your actual body - with more defined interest now, you slowly turn, trying to see if anything’s visible.

Whoever or whatever it is, it doesn’t feel dangerous. Yet.

“Are you a guy?”

That doesn’t feel right.

“Girl?”

It considers it, then decides on yes, a feeling of confirmation-agreement. Okaaaaay. Was it- she - not a woman when she was alive?

The fuck?

“Are you... dead?”

Nope.

.... okay, now you have no damn clue.

“Do the Strawhats know about you?”

Also nope.

>20 questions

"Soooo..." Your mind rattles around, looking for questions that can be answered with yes or no. "If you're not dead... are you alive?" Yes. You think that's good, unless it just means you've got a crazy ghost and need to break the news that it's dead. That would suck. "Do you WANT the Strawhats to know you're here?" A sort of wishy-washy unsurety, that turns into a yes.

Okey-dokey then.

"Are you on the ship?"

A tentative unsure-yes.

"Can you LEAVE the ship?"

Hard no.

"... Do you want to leave the ship?"

Hard no again.

"Do you... want to hurt anyone?"

No! Thank the utterly non-existent sky-god! You're not going to have to fight a ghost-thing! Probably!

"Can you... make yourself visible to me?"

More unsurety. Followed by...

The spirit of Ace lives on in your rolls. UNLIMITED JOBBING WORKS

>91

... a hazy something.

While your Haki tells you the presence remains mostly as is, part of it seems to focus, deepen, even solidify, more distinct than befor. And that part centers around the something that flickers vaguely on he deck in front of you.

Shorter than you. Colorless. Outline blurred. No details. But there's SOMETHING there, all right - something vaguely person-shaped, wearing some kind of... hooded robe, maybe? And carrying something in one hand - a weapon?

It hovers in existence for perhaps ten seconds, your Haki registering the spirit's growing exhaustion, before it vanishes again, the gathered Haki dispersing from its focal point once more.

Well.

That's not creepy or anything!

"Okay, I... definitely saw that."

Happiness! Excitement! You kind of wanna pet its head.

"Do you have a name?"

Yes.

All right... it's time to get really boring. "One word?" No. "Two?" Yes. "Number of letters is first word... Less then ten?" Yes. "Less than five?" No. "Five exactly?" Yes. Good! "Second word..."

You carry on, through the number of letters and then the individual letters themselves. First name is Going, which is... odd, not that you're an expert on ghost names.

Second word is... Merry...

Um.......

>?????

>ghost... ship....?

Wat.

Wat.

Wat is dis.

You feel your face twitch. Then your mind restarts, as you slowly become aware that you're... just possibly... maybe... talking to a ship.

That's not too weird. Lotta sailors do that.

They usually don't talk BACK.

Ohhhhhh boy.

Is the ship - no, can't be a Devil Fruit thing, not when it's always going through salt water. Then... no, it looks like regular wood, nothing weird and exotic.

You stare down at the deck, reapplying your Haki, which switched off when your brain broke.

Have you heard of anything like this before? Ghost ships? There's a Devil Fruit which does ghost stuff, you know, but again... Devil Fruit. So no. Same with Big Mom's Fruit, which might have been a possibility?

Ships that are not quite alive, but - sapient. With a soul? Spirit? A ship - spirit.

Huh.

"Well, nice to meetcha, Merry! I'm - Arthur, as I guess you've already heard!" YOU'RE TALKING TO A SHIIIIIIIIP. "I guess you're a, uh, klaubauterman?"

Happy yes.

Y I K E S

"Right. Okay. Yes. This is fine." Does the White Mist have one?! Is it cute?! Can you cuddle i- Wait, not important! Right now, anyway. "Do you... need anything?"

Worried yes.

"Something to do with the Strawhats?"

Yes yes yes.

"You need them to... Do something?"

Vacillating no.

"They need to... know something?"

Yes!

Oh man... this is gonna take forever.

"Can you tell them yourself?"

Unsure yes-no.

.... Great. You're talking to a friggin' ship and you're already bored. You glance over the railings, frowning as you see the Strawhats getting into some kind of dispute with - local police force? Military? Ugh, don't get arrested now... you don't think you can legally arrest a ship for piracy. Does Merry count as a civilian? A slave? YOU'RE SO CONFUSED.

Rolled 64 (1d100)

>the questions... they're over 9000!

Uuuuuuggggghhhhh. It's gonna be more questions, isn't it?

Your Haki is definitely tiring, but you can manage a while longer, as it's just sensing emotions and not actively predicting things.

"Okay, I won't be able to sense you much longer, so let's hurry this," you say, trying to be blunt but not rude. Then you lead her down vague to more detailed questions in turn, narrowing it until you have your final answer.

Merry is damaged. Reasonably badly, it seems, from accumulated wear and tear. Not surprising, really - the White Mist had a tricky few days here and there in Grand Line weather, and Marine ships are a lot hardier than this little thing.

All the same... you can't help but feel it's not so much a ship being declared damaged, as a person announcing their ill health.

Maybe their terminal ill health.

Merry's a pirate ship, and the Strawhat one at that, but... you can't help but feel a sympathetic tug in the chest anyway, as she confirms it with reluctant regret-sadness-tiredness-melancholy, obviously trying to force a fake bubble of cheeriness into the news.

If she isn't dying now, you don't doubt she will be soon. Should an East Blue ship really cross Reverse Mountain? Many don't survive, you know, and most pirates crews get a new ship within six months to a year of entering Paradise, you know. You kind of assumed it was due to changes in crew sizes, or damage from battles, but logically speaking, Grand Line materials and ship-building skills are better than most of the Blues.

... The Strawhats would have needed a new ship soon anyway, right? What with three new crew members, even without you and Sogeking, the ship seemed a little cramped. So...

But still...

Okay, what's it gonna be? Latrine duty for life? house arrested upon the ship for a month?
>>
>congrats, robin doesn't want to touch you now

You step over to the mast and... sort of hug it. In a rugged, manly one-armed way. Then you pull away, patting it. "I'll tell the Strawhats." Even though they're totally gonna think you're batshit crazy.

Yeeeeeah, you have no idea how you're gonna explain this one.

In any case, you feel a buffeting of relief-gratitude-affection which vanishes as you say goodbye and turn your Haki off.

Woooooow, that was... draining.

(Haki +1!)

... More importantly, when you look over the railings again, the Witch Thief has reappeared (unfortunately) and... Strawhat appears to have beaten up the local police guys.

Oh.

Great.

You're sure this won't reflect badly on you.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA FUCKING STRAWHATS

You gently press tour head against the railings and groan. Is this what it's like to be Smoboss? Dealing with a guy who keeps causi- no, just attracting- trouble everywhere?

Maybe you should apologize to him sometime. And, y'know, actually mean it.

... Naaaaaah.

In any case, after some faint yelling from either side - and then from Conis and her dad - most of the Strawhats head off with the Skypieans back to the house, while the Witch Thief, Lolonoa, Nico and Doctor Cutie make a dash for the Merry.

You lean over the edge, watching curiously. Probably you should... hold off on the Merry thing for a little while. This is the kind of thing you tell the Captain, not some random crew... although Lolonoa's the first mate - maybe you should tell HIM?

Ugh. Hard.

You toss the ladder down so they can climb up easier; Chopper riding on Lolonoa's back as they appear over the edge, Nico and the Witch Thief following.

"We need to get the Merry ready to leave," he says bluntly, setting the mink down.

>Yeeeeeeah, good job beating up law enforcement. I don't think they even knew what pirates WERE before we got here...
>Can I talk to you for a minute first? In private?
>Where are the others?
>Other?

Yes, this is exactly right, except Flashy is eternally exiled to the latrines and isn't allowed to go anywhere alone or ever fight again. Even if he eats a Logia.

Also he gets demoted to Chore Boy, and Tashigi rubs it in his face. Constantly.

>>3480820
Now I think about it, not even Chore Boy. A new rank of Latrine Boy is made especially for you.
>>
>>3480820
Hey, at least this time we did our actual job for once. With minimal injuries....so far.
>>
>>3480774
No. He's a murderous monster. This isn't some 'kill him, and you'll be just like him' shit, it's 'this man is a criminal and we are an officer of the law, put him down like the rabid animal he is'.

Also. Loot.

Most importantly, anyone who likes the Moon is clearly crazy and irredeemable. This fact brought to you by Klaus. Fuck you, Moon.
>>
>>3480825
>Listen Cap, this is gonna sound really weird, but I *need* to tell you something.

BP I am ashamed. I wont take anything less than Latrine Man, we arent a child after all.

Although, do we need to watch our words around lolnoa? Didn't we accidentally help him with some haki before?

Wait until homegirl realizes Goober-in-Chief here is actually a genius when Merry says goodbye. Quick, roll to decypher poneglyph!
>>
>>3480849
We already would've stolen Enel's fruit right off his corpse and then you want to completely destroy everything that he had strived for?

Sounds great. Reminds me of Oda talking about Luffy being a cold motherfucker who only lets his victims live because they'll have do so knowing they can never achieve their dreams. Except we shatter that shit even after they're dead.

>>3480856
Hmm, looks like it says "Flashman iz the best"

With how often we get sent to the latrines, what are the odds a klabuterman forms but for the latrines?
