Hello /qst/, and welcome to the first edition of tales from the library. These are going to be a series of 1 shot quests I expect to take up 1-2 threads at the most, both to give myself experience and ideas, and perhaps to give everyone else participating a fun little time. Following this are going to be a set of possible quests to choose from, and I will only be running one of them this time, your options are as follows:1. Race Against Time: (Plane - World of Roads). The city-state of Lequick has finally gotten a scavenged ancient city buster bomb functional. Their target is Motor City, one of the world’s largest and most successful city-states. The objective is to race against the clock and reach Motor City before time runs out. You must warn them of the advancing bomber before it drops its lethal payload. The track is considered to be extremely deadly, racing through the rust desert, the realms of the merfolk, the shard mountains, and finally long abandoned sections of the long 100. The rewards will be great, but the dangers are many! Racers, take up the call!2. High Stakes: (Plane: Paradise). In the trading and gambling plane known as paradise, all sorts of things are put on the line. This time, a high stakes game is interrupted by a mysterious, gold masked man. Instead of stupid things like money, fame, or favors, he’s placed one of the greatest treasures of all as the prize. A wish coin. Anything you want will be yours, as long as its value is less or equal to that of the coin. How far will you and the other players go to have it? Nothing is off limits, use your wits, your cunning, and your luck to get your dreams fulfilled, for isn’t that the most valuable thing of all?
>>35040973. Soul Hunter: (Plane: Toybox). The flesh world of Toybox is filled with the ruins of once great civilizations, all brought to ruin to the utter delight of its new owner, Cancer. You play as a member of a retrieval squad, tasked with finding and securing valuable souls out of creatures that exist outside the limits of Cancer’s interest. If successful, Cancer will reward you greatly, if you fail, death is by far the best outcome. Will you obey orders? Will you make friends? Will you find that you have a conscience? Be careful, all that exists, only exists because Cancer allows it to. Your life is in the hands of a madman, one who is a very impatient creature. 4. Playwright (Plane: Dimora). The world of Dimora is made of equal parts decayed ruins and beautiful mega cities. The robotic inhabitants live lives of relatively carefree ease. Uniquely, these inhabitants have their own souls and thus wills of their own. You play as an up and coming playwright, Wattz, who has several bright ideas for a new performance to impress the upper echelon. Success that could will catapult you into the big leagues, allowing you to fulfill your dreams. How far are you willing to go for that though? Where will your quest for a good story take you? >Choose a quest from the selection, 1-4

You enjoy the brew you’ve been sipping on for the past few minutes; for it’s the only real pleasure you’ve had since you’ve come into this accursed place. The Tombstone is a rather funny name for a casino, but you figure it deserves points for honesty. The place is named not after the only thing you’ll be able to afford after tonight, but after the place’s battle pit, where all sorts of creatures and people are placed up against one another in fights to the death, all the while the patrons bet on them. You check your cards and grimace once more, a bad hand, another fucking bad hand. You look up to see the three other people sitting with you at the table.Mr. Hat, you don’t know his real name, all you do know is the fucker has been constantly adjusting that stupid top hat of his all night almost as much as he’s been brushing his beard. You hope he loses the damned thing when he leaves with all of his ill-gotten winnings. He’s leading all of you by a sizeable margin, although he’s certainly cheating. You don’t have any proof but you just know it! Nobody’s that fucking lucky, at least you’ve never been. You glance over at the woman, Misha you think her name was, checking some of the vials protruding from a couple of the pouches on her shirt. If you hadn’t checked every single one of those damned things for hidden cards then you’d know for a fact that she was a cheater, obviously. Nobody needed that many fucking pouches. She even had pouches in her hat! In her fucking hat! It didn’t help that she was attractive because of course she was, why the fuck wouldn’t she be! Dirty blond hair and a damned impressive rack. God damn it why did someone that attractive need to be a cheater!Last up is the vet. You don’t know who he is exactly, but you figure he’s a soldier of some kind. The man’s been wearing a set of shades that a blind person would wear, and he hasn’t talked all that much. The few times he has talked his mouth didn’t move, what kind of cheater was he? Obviously up to something nasty, probably cursing you. Why the fuck did everyone have to cheat? You were actually on a winning spree at the slots before these jokers came over. What do you do:1. Try your best to bluff, the only thing you’d be able to answer truthfully right now is ‘how much do you hate these people’2. Fold, fuck it you’re done for the night. Might as well pack up and go home. 3. Call them cheaters. Honestly a horrible idea, a few of the guards have already been giving you the stink eye, they’re probably in cahoots with the other players.4. Cheat, fight fire with fire5. (write in)

>>3504182We are a bounty hunter, came here for a job but the song of the cards distracted us, we have a bit of a gamvling problem, besides, the job is quite easy, we just have to bring a runaway daughter(alive and unharmed, which is a nuisance) from a merchant, she's supposed to be here, dirt blond hair, attractive looks, often seen with many pouches and vials.......wait a minute....

>>3504172Well, telling the truth was not going to work, so you decide to bluff. You glance at your hand one more time and then go all in. As meager an amount as that is, it has an effect. Mr. Hat raises and eyebrow and backs off. The pouch lady then follows, becoming slightly nervous. The vet stays in, black shades and a stern countenance masking any emotions he might have had. It was like staring at a brick wall. It’s was a bit unnatural you think. Luckily his hand is even worse than yours was. A pair of threes against the pair of tens you’d had. He wordlessly passes his chips over to you and the other two give you the slight amount that they’d forfeited to be able to fold. The cards then slip from the table and reform into the deck. The cards move to the end of the table where a dealer would normally be at and a ghostly set of hands manifest and promptly shuffle the deck, pausing for a moment to see if anyone wants to offer initial bets. The hands appear to be wearing a matching set of white gloves with the Casino’s logo printed on them, which is a small depiction of a tombstone and the words ‘The Tombstone’. You think back to the reason you were here. You work as a bounty hunter and occasionally take on an odd job. This is a pretty standard job, find the runaway daughter of a very worried merchant, and drag her kicking and screaming back home. Alive and unharmed of course, because you very much doubt the man would be willing to pay you in full if you brought a corpse back. In fact you’d probably end up paying a great deal if you pulled a stunt like that. You stare down at your left hand and moved the stumps where your pinky and ring finger used to be. Based on what the info broker had told you, the girl had eloped with a man and was presently staying at this very casino. Her father said she dabbled in alchemy and always wore tons of pouches on her person, full of strange ingredients and mysterious liquids stored in glass vials. You check the photo you were given. An attractive woman stands over an alchemy table, you notice the dirty blond hair, her attractive features, and a very familiar hat. A baseball cap with pouches sewn in for additional storage. You glance up at the woman sitting across from you for a moment, then back to the photo, then back to the woman…. Then back to the photo again because you want to be sure it’s her. Damn you’re good at your job. Decisions:1. *pull out your weapon and try to take her in* 2. *continue the game, not like she’s going anywhere3. *wait the round out, you need another drink* 4. *write in*
>>35051012. *continue the game, not like she’s going anywhereTry to look for the man, if he exist, see if she has any backup
>>35051012. *continue the game, not like she’s going anywhereWe just won, maybe we are on a roll, and the cards brought us to our mark, that counts as luck doesn't it? See if she's alone, maybe he ditched the other guy already, that would be convenient, we are not getting paid for him and killing him may be dangerous/wasteful
>>3505101You figure that merchant what’s his face won’t mind if his daughter gets returned in a couple more hours. You might as well check to see if she’s with that boyfriend of hers, and how dangerous he is. You’re being all professional about this after all, got to do a good job… as for your hand…Current hand:1. Jack of diamonds2. Eight of hearts3. Ten of diamonds4. Eight of spades5. Nine of heartsYou check around the casino for any suspicious looking characters, but well, it’s a casino. Everyone looks suspicious. You can see a few people watching your ‘high level’ game but they don’t look like bad boy material. Maybe pouch lady is a bigger weirdo than you thought and was going out with one of those string beans, or maybe she’s just into old men. Best case scenario she’d already ditched or been ditched by the man, killing someone wasn’t in your current contract and you’d rather not have to start now.You hear some commotion coming near the battle pit, some jackass in a pink feather cloak and wearing what appears to be an elk skull is talking up a storm and gathering up a crowd. You do happen to notice the vet keeping a close eye on him, cocking his head to pay attention to the jackass’ every move. You hear a couple whispers from the next table over about the man bringing in some weird creatures for the pit fight. Decisions:1. *change your hand out* (Write in) 2. *make a bet* (small, medium, big, all in) 3. *fold*4. *say something* (write in)5. (write in)

>>3505198Holy shit its a seven!
>>3505171The first thing you do is slide about half of your tokens into the middle of the table before checking your hand again. You’re going to go for broke, you need a seven or a queen. You don’t really know the numbers behind it but you know the odds are a bit stacked. The coward’s move would be to rely on the two eights but your momma didn’t raise no coward. You carelessly toss a card back onto the table, the thing twists a couple times before it stops and is pulled towards the ghostly pair of hands acting as the dealer. A new card is slid across the table, and you scoop it up with gusto. You smile for the first time since you started this game, you’re luck has finally turned around. A seven, a fuckin seven! You have a god damned straight. The other players all make their moves, Mr Hat matches your bet and makes a snide comment about letting your little victory go to your head. The pouch girl matches as well, grabbing out a vial and twirling it around in her hands. The vet… opens his mouth a crack and then shuts in just as quickly. He grabs a cloth from his pocket and takes off his shades. As he cleans them you notice that the man’s eyes are closed. Has the fucker been playing with his eyes closed the whole time?! Is he messing with all of you?! He places the shades back on after cleaning them, the shades nicely complimenting the military uniform he’s wearing. Now that you think of it, you don’t really recognize it as any of the local security or private police forces… he must be from out of town.“I fold.” He says, dumping his cards face down onto the table. The first time he’s talked tonight.Mr. Hat raises an objection, saying its poor taste to fold face down, but the cards are scooped up by the ghostly hands and the round continues, a crushing win for you.You snicker as you pull your winnings towards you. You’ve actually made money betting for once. Then you shudder, something really bad was about to happen, nothing ever went this easy. “Ladies and Gentlemen!” A voice coming from battle pit calls out. “For your viewing pleasure and amusement I present a varied selection of my personal creations for the battlepit! I bet you that nothing in the world can take down any of my creations in combat… not a man or a beast!” The stranger thrusts his arms about, wildly gesticulating and using a couple of red mana bursts to create impromptu fireworks. “The heck is he talking about, there isn’t anything scheduled tonight…” Mr Hat says. Decisions:1. *head over to see what the jackass is talking about.* 2. *demand to continue the game*3. *head for a drink*4. *suggest playing a round of blackjack* 5. (write in)
>>35057911. *head over to see what the jackass is talking about.* Suggest everyone on the table to go see, mostly tp keep tabs on our mark as much as sating our curiosity
>>35057911. *head over to see what the jackass is talking about.*
>>3505791You push away from the table to get a better view of the battle pit and the jackass standing in the middle of it. The pit is more of a stadium than anything else, the large pit surrounded by about a dozen rows of seats that slope downward until reaching the pit itself. From what you understand the pit can be modified very quickly to create all sorts of terrain and the thing can even self-repair itself. There is a very complex barrier protecting the stands, in fact after viewing it with mage sight you nearly vomit, the thing hurts to look at for too long. “Can we suspend the game for a moment, I want to watch this jackass get hauled off by security.” You say.“Fine by me, I need a break after winning so much.” Mr Hat replies. The other two nod and you notice that the vet seems to be far more agitated. His movements have become a bit jerkier as he kicks off his seat and immediately sets off for the battle pit.Mr Hat offers his hand out to “The beautiful lady.” And of course the pouch woman accepts it. He seems to be unrelated to her based on how the two had been acting before and during the game. Just a womanizer then. You head over with them to the battle pit, making sure you don’t lose track of your target… actually now would be a great time to act, everyone, including security will be distracted…
>>3505886In the pit itself, you notice that the jackass is standing on some sort of living podium, the thing is kind of like a beetle, with several armored legs and a flat top. It scuttles around as the man continues to talk. You notice his clothes are extremely colorful and even a bit tacky, like a clown ate a bunch of paint and then threw up all over himself. All the while paired up with the small pink cloak and the elk skull. At this distance you notice that some of the horns have small red flowers on the tips. Finally you see that security has entered the fray, moving through one of the combatant entrances and rushing towards the elk skull wearing jackass. There are six men and one female mage among them from what you can tell, they’re all well-armed and armored, a few even holding expensive looking spell guns. You guess the mage is charging up for some sort of paralyzing spell based on the blue mana her hands are giving off. The jackass doesn’t even seem to care, meaning he’s really dangerous, or really stupid. You hear a commotion as a group of people have begun betting to see how long it takes security to wrangle the idiot. You watch as a couple of paper golemic constructs begin to fan out from a fairly fat goblin who has already begun writing down odds on a piece of posterboard that has seemingly come from nowhere. The current bet right now is that the jackass will last twenty seconds, you don’t really have a lot of time to enter into the pool then.Decisions:1. *try to apprehend your target in the confusion* 2. *carefully watch the fight*3. *place a bet in the impromptu betting pool*4. (write in)
>>3505893Approach the target and start talking, see if she is willing to make an informal bet, on how long the idiot takes to be taken out of the thing, approach and talk with her, then when/if she relaxes we can try to make our move
>>3505911+1Bet that he folds quite quickly
>>3505893As the commotion reaches a fever pitch, you head over to Ms. Pouches. You manage to get the woman’s attention and pull her away from Mr. Hat, who’s gone from bold and cocky to glaring daggers at you. You don’t really understand why but you figure he’s a bit territorial. “So what’s this about exactly?” She asks, moving a strand of hair out of her face and giggling in a manner you figure is supposed to be cute. Nice attempt but it needs a lot of work.“Well I figured I shouldn’t let the compensator over there win everything tonight.” You say, pointing out Mr. Hat’s giant tophat. That gets a laugh out of the woman and you press on. “So I’d like to make an informal bet, perhaps for some drinks? Loser pays for em.” You say. “Bet you that idiot in the arena drops like a sack of bricks the second he gets a bonk on the head.”“Bet you’d know how good a man is in a fight.” The woman says, flirting a little bit. You’re caught a little off guard by how easy this is going and remember the good win you’d pulled off during your last round of cards. “You’re on, I bet that he lasts a minute.” She said. “The man looks like he can really book it, and he has that weird platform bug.” “It’s a bet.” You say. You shake hands with her and a small pulse of light shoots through both of you, signifying that the bet has been made and that you are both bound to it unless either of you ponies of something of equal or greater value to the other, or one of you somehow kicks the bucket. Barter’s will they call it. You watch as the jackass completely ignores several commands to get off the scuttling podium, before one of the guards runs in to apprehend him, swinging a shock baton directly into the back of the jackasses skull. The Jackass freezes suddenly… and then nothing, it’s like he was more stunned from the actual shock of being hit then all of the volts in the baton. The jackass turns slowly, like a behemoth noticing a small child kicking its legs. You watch as the man goes for another swing which is blocked by the jackass bare handed. The entire battle pit goes quiet as the elk skull wearing man takes thousands of volts without even flinching.
>>3505983The first step the guard takes is to let go of the shock baton, the second step he makes is backing off several feet. The third is pulling out his weapon, a magic pistol of some kind. He doesn’t make it to step four. With one lackadaisical motion of his right arm, the stranger bats the man away. Suddenly and rather violently sending him hurtling towards the stands. With a nasty sounding plop he impacts the magical barrier protecting the auidence and creates a large and nasty stain. The guards and the mage open fire on the stranger, who simply dodges out of the way far quicker than he should have been able to. The podium he was standing on hisses as a small swarm of insects scuttle out of the gaps between its legs. Both the swarms and the podium are quickly dealt with by a couple impact grenades thrown by the guards. Through the dust and shrapnel the stranger rushes, and you realize that one of his arms has changed into a nasty look bone spike. A moment later it impales one of the guards clean through the ribcage, killing him instantly. The strangers other hand latches onto another guards head and crushes it with apparent ease. The strangers other hand, a nozzle of some kind, sprays a stream of liquid which quickly melts through two more guards, leaving only one more guard and the mage behind…. Wait… three arms? A very powerful looking bolt spell is flung from the end of the spear like arm, which impacts the final guard and causes him to nearly burst apart from the sheer power of the spell. The mage, panicking, begins to retreat, firing spell after spell at the stranger. You watch in amazement as the stranger gleefully deflects the spells in a bastardization of every martial art you’ve ever seen. The spells are then over taken by the stranger and pool to form a large ball of mana above him. From the mana emerges the form of a massive snake, which wizzes towards the mage, completely shattering the barrier that she managed to put up, and bisecting her from the torso up in a single brutal bite.
>>3505989The crowd stands speechless as the stranger dusts himself out, spits out a few pieces of metal from his mouth, and heads back toward his destroyed… dead?... podium. He bends down and reaches both his arms out, he only has two now, and grabs ahold of the shattered creature. You can’t really see exactly what he’s doing but a moment later the creature stands back up good as new and the stranger jumps atop it.“I do hope you’ve enjoyed my little performance, I didn’t really intend to be the star attraction of my little art show but I suppose the artist is just as important as the works he creates, I also thank these lovely people for volunteering to fight something far above their weight class and create the wonderful spectacle you’ve all paid witness to. So I thank them from the bottom of my heart!” The stranger said, bowing, like an actor who’d just put on a marvelous performanceYou notice that the supposed flowers on the man’s elk skull are pulsing. At that point a large panic begins to sweep the crowd, with some of the more squeamish guests vomiting onto the floor, running towards the exit, or simply running in any direction that will get them away from the battle pit, pussies. All of the posh fucks who never seen a good street brawl before didn’t know what to do when someone died in front of em. Just a fact of life wasn’t it? People die all the time, though in this case it was particularly messy you admit. You hear shouts from a few important looking security guards to stand down and that a special unit has been deployed to clean up. You figure someone’s called in the big guns. Decisions:1. *Make your move NOW*2. *continue to watch, this is the most interesting fuckin thing you’ve seen all day.* 3. *well you don’t owe that woman a beer but you’re pretty sure she needs it.* 4. *run for it, fuck this*5. >>3506003“Hey do you want to grab a beer, you look like you need it.” You offer, leading towards the bar which is still operating just fine.“Y-yeah I think I d-do… how many people just…” “Try not to think about it, you’ll sleep easier.” You say, leading the woman away from the carnage that had just occurred. You notice Mr. Hat had stomped off somewhere, and the vet is nowhere to be found. “Code Greed!” One of the guards calls out.“Greed’s showing up?” Ms. Pouches asks. “Who?” You ask. “Big shot, really big shot, a god who works for Barter himself.” Pouches says. “I guess this was inside an important casino…”“Hardly, tombstone’s small time.” You reply confidently. “Regardless the situation should be tidied up, correct?” “Can’t believe how cheery he was about all this, hey miss are you by yourself, do you have anyone you could stay with?” You ask as you reach the bar. “No… well y-yes… I um…” She stutters. “Look I can’t talk about it.” She says fearfully. “Okay?!” “No need to get angry, we’ve all been through something traumatic.” Not nearly as traumatic for the guards though. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++As you sip on another brew, you watch as miss pouches continues to stare at hers, the woman hasn’t even touches the beer yet, and it’s going to get warm soon. “So I never got your name.” You say.“Nina.” “Right, my name is uh…” Decisions:1. *write in* 2. “I traded it away a few years back, I needed the money and the angel had offered me a really good deal…”

>>3506080You smile, you aren’t really the type of bounty hunter who’d give his name to the person he was after, after all. Still, you need to answer something… perhaps a joke to liven her mood, get her off guard? Anything other than Korvin. “Mr. Pouches.” You say, cracking a small grin and tapping the bar a couple times.“Ah…oh… oh very funny, jackass.” Nina replies. “Should I call you Mr. trenchcoat instead?” She replied. You grimace for a moment, how dare she mock your gray trench coat! The absolute height of fashion! “So why are you in a place like this at a time like this?” You ask.“I didn’t expect the crazy man in the arena to make ground beef out of the guards!” She said. “I just… I was just having some fun, a bit of relaxation, you know?” “Did you know the guy with the hat?” “Fredrick? No, not really, he just seemed… charming? Maybe a little corny. I was actually with… nevermind.” “Heh, and the vet?”“The one with the shades?” Nina responds, surprised, like she’d completely forgotten about the man. “Yeah he seemed really strange, if I didn’t know better I’d say he had some relation to the jackass in the arena right now.”“Why would you say that?!” “He seemed to know something was about to happen, got all ancy once he recognized the guy’s voice.” “LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, PLEASE STAY CALM, GREED HAS ARRIVED!” An excited voice said over the loudspeakers.
>>3506182A tall, black clad gentleman enters into the casino, flanked by a couple of golems made faux clumsily out of gold bars. From one look you can tell the things are extremely well made and could punch through a concrete wall with ease. But Greed, he was something else. You look at him for a split second in mage sight before clutching at your pain stricken eyes. The sheer amount of black mana coating the man… insane, utterly insane. You could barely even make out his outline due to the amount of interference… and he wasn’t even using any spells yet!“People!” Greed says, “Stay calm, don’t worry, I’ll have everything under control in a few short minutes! Go back to the tables, play a few slots! Enjoy!” He says, a chipper voice hidden behind a black shawl covered with golden masks. “This is Paradise baby! A little blood and guts ain’t near enough to ruin a good time!” The masks move as he talks, all of them do, like they’re a part of him. You suddenly feel at ease as the words reach your ears, yet you’re not really sure why, magic? “I’m so happy someone’s here to deal with that vile man.” Nina says. Greed raises a gold studded, black gloved, hand and motions the golems forward. Then he dances ahead to lead the charge. Decisions:1. “Want to watch the fight? “So you were with someone… a boyfriend?” You ask.“Yes… well… no… I thought he was an admirer and well… look I can’t…” “Its fine, really, we all do stupid things sometimes. Speaking of which… want to watch the fight? If this guy is really a god… it’s gonna be a hell of a show.”“Sure!” She says, checking over her shoulder for a moment. “I must be drunk, I can’t believe I’m agreeing to this.” You mentally prepare yourself to a cast a sleep spell, you can’t charge it in case the woman can detect it, but it should allow you a quicker cast time. As you walk back towards the battle pit, along with a sizeable crowd of people hoping to gawk, you continue the conversation. “So what are all those vials for? Anything good in them, yknow, for having a bit of fun?” You ask. “What aphrodisiacs? Please, I’m a professional alchemist, even if some people disagree with me. I even have a license!” She says, digging through her jacket and pulling out a fancy looking silver encrusted license with her face, name, and profession on it. “You can do all sorts of things with these materials!” She says. “I’ve even made healing lacquers before.”“Healing liquor?” You ask.“No its more like rubbing alcohol that heals wounds.” She says.“Like pain away?” You ask.“Ugh, that brand is so watered down I hardly believe anyone lets them call it medicine.”
>>3507269“Anything else? Just a healer then?” You ask.“I carry a few for my own protection, of course, got to take care of myself on these mean streets.” You can barely stifle a laugh. You enter the Battle Pit and get a handle on what is happening. The arena has become a buzz of activity with the central focus being Greed, flanked by his two golems, and the mystery man in the arena, doing something unspeakable to the corpses of the deceased. It’s like he’s using a distended arm as a vacuum cleaner to suction up pieces of the corpses, you hope Greed completely annihilates the disgusting creature. Greed finally steps forward after finishing his conversation and approaches the barrier, using both of his arms to force open a hole through sheer force of will. The golems charge through before Greed follows them, the lanky god performing a backflip before landing perfectly in the area. With a sound like a bubble popping the hole closes, sealing the arena off once more.“Oh, hi Greed!” The mystery man calls. “How’s it like being Barter’s personal gopher, should give you a service bell as a present?” You watch as all of Greed’s golden masks curl up in frustration and he responds, voice dripping with contempt.“Of course it’s you, only you’d do something like this. I’m going to ask this once, you are to come with be back to the God’s Spire Casino, and we’re going to all have a long talk about your little show!” “Shucks, if you wanted me to stay put you shouldn’t have made things so boring, I had to make my own entertainment.”
>>3507273“By butchering seven valuable staff members? Causing revenue loss to this casino? Unacceptable!” You watch as greed is slowly and easily overpowered in the resulting argument, the God slowly shriveling and hiding away behind the two golden golems, like a fat noble would hide behind bodyguards. Eventually, Greed had taken enough abuse and decided to escalate. “ENOUGH, EITHER YOU WILL ACCEPT BARTER’S GRACIOUS OFFER OF FORGIVNESS OR I WILL RESTRAIN YOU MYSELF! I HOPE YOU ARE READY TO REPAY DAMAGES TO THE ENTIRE CASINO!”“Just the casino?” The mystery man asks in a singsong voice. “You really don’t value yourself all that highly do you?” “Buh… I’M GOING TO TAKE YOU DOWN BEFORE YOU DO ANY MORE DAMAGE, YOU IDIOT. I’M GOING TO TURN YOU INTO A NICE GOLD STATUE TO PLACE IN SOME ART GALLERY.” At that the mystery man toppled over laughing, and laughing hard. Greed leapt forward, taking both of his gloves off and revealing gold covered hands. “Fine I yield!” Cancer says, still gasping for air as he shakily rises to his feet. “I just have one little itsy bitsy condition, first.” “What?” Greed says, grabbing for one of the guards shock batons. From Greeds hands, a creeping covering of gold engulfs the entire baton, and the entire thing begins to emit massive amounts of electricity.
>>3507282 “I want some REAL entertainment, some drama, some suspense!” The man says. “Me and the other three… well we once encircled this city… and we-“What would you have me do?” Greed said, gold spittle flying from his masks. “I want to have a contest between some of the lovely people watching us, voluntary of course, I know how much Barter HATES forcing people to do anything, and I’m nothing if not a gracious guest… a fight to the death? No no that’d be far too extreme… hrm…”“I can offer up a wish coin as a prize, if that will make you behave.” Greed said. The man reminded you a bit of one of your school teachers, the poor woman was completely powerless before two dozen little shits, yourself included, and would do whatever she could to keep control. How tough was this guy, to be able to do this to a god? “I will listen, and I will watch everything that transpires in this casino until the festivities have ended!” The man said. “Fine, Cancer, but you and the boss are going to have a nice long conversation when this is all done.” Greed replied. “First of all I hope you’re ready to pay for all the damages, and offer value up for all the value lost due to your actions.” “Fine fine, easy enough.” Cancer replied. “Can we get this event started already? I’m already so excited!” The insect like podium extended a couple of feeding tubes with mouth like appendages on the end and began to hungrily feast on the guard corpses. >>3507284You decide to keep playing along for the time being. Thoughts of wealth beyond your wildest dreams flicker through your head. Wish coins are items made by Barter, owner of this plane of existence and considered to be currency used by gods. To just offer one up to mortals was a very rare event, and this Cancer fellow seemed to treat it like tossing a bone to a cute puppy. Something to toss aside for enjoyment. “A wish coin, that is really something, but I’m sure that to get it… anyone who accepts is going to be violent at the very least, they’d do anything, horrible things. Just to even get a small sliver of a wish coin.”“Please help me.” Nina says. “I… I want your help, to get the coin, you have good luck when it counts, I saw that during the game. Not just anyone could’ve pulled that straight off. I… I’ll split it with you, I only need a small piece, you can have the rest, please.” The woman was begging you, desperation flashing before her eyes. >write in

>>3507426“You’re lucky I have a soft spot for beautiful women in need. Why do you want it and why should I help you? Why do you need a part of the wish coin?Nina bites her lip and concentrates on what she wants to say to you. As she talks the Cancer and Greed come to an agreement and shake hands in the arena, a flash of light flows through the entire casino and you feel as though the place’s atmosphere has become incredibly tense.“I… I’m scared of my father, he’s trying to marry me off to one of his competitors to combine their business’s together… and I… the man I was with… I thought… I need something of value to break our…” Nina said, shuddering in pain as a couple flashes of red light went through her form, warnings that she had almost broken a contract. “I’m in over my head, I’m scared… he… I mean I might die, I might die soon.” She said, terror gripping her. She grasped at her throat as she began to hyperventilate. “I’m just a tool, that’s all this was ever about.” “So you thought you might die and you decided to play poker?”“I can’t… I can’t run, you understand? I’m stuck here, I … I’m scared, I’m scared and I’m stupid but I need your help, I don’t have anyone else I can turn to, please help me.”You turn your attention to the arena while thinking of how to respond. “So that’s what that feels like, fun. Like my body becoming all bone.” Cancer said, “A dangerous ability you have there Greed, I see why you wear those shabby gloves.” Cancer tears off an arm that had been half turned to gold and simply grows a new one in seconds. He chucks the large chunk of gold thoughtlessly behind him and it lands on the sandy arena floor with a thud. Greed chuckles before wiping his hands together and collecting his gloves, which seemed to be immune to his ability. Cancer hoped on the back of one of the two golems and the group proceeded through one of the combatant entrances and out of sight. The two had seemingly made up. “So you want my coin so you can escape?” You ask.“Yes.” Nina says. “Can you help me?” “What could you offer me?” “You’ve never been in the tombstone before, have you?” Nina says. “I’ve been trapped in this place for a week, I know it all its ins and outs. I also am an alchemist, I can craft potions to help you… both in spellcasting and in combat. Enchantment potions, lightning and acid bottles… you name it!” >write in

>>3507564“Well you have a deal, a small part to free you from your contract, and the rest is mine and you tell me all about it over wine and a fine dinner as we celebrate, how about it.” You ask, smiling and displaying some of that masculine charisma you always hear people talking about. Nina smiles warmly and envelopes you in a hug. “THANK YOU!” She says before pulling away, bouncing up and down with joy. “I’ll just expect you to pay for dinner of course.”“Ha, deal.” You say, shaking hands. You feel a warm light once more pass through you as the agreement is solidified. It occurs to you how awkward this will be if you don’t actually win. But then again it’s a god damned wish coin, nobody would blame you for going for it!There is a creak from the loudspeakers and all of the runeovisions in the casino spring to life as a feed of Cancer and Greed sitting in some kind of studio set with a fairly hastily made sign with the words ‘High Stakes’ written on it.“So ladies and gentlemen, I’m going to assume anyone left inside the Casino now is excited for the chance to have their dreams come true. Of course, most of you will more than likely not be making it past the first round, as we want to weed out contests to make things a tad easier to maintain.”“And because nobody likes watching boring performances!” Cancer adds. “Sides if you can’t get past this round you never had a chance! So don’t feel bad if you get flung out of the Casino!”“Alright so the upper floors of the casino are completely cleared out now, and the only place with people is on the lowest floor, from here on out things are going to work like this, you need to make it up to the second floor to stand a chance! The current clock is set to one hour, the task, find a way up to the second floor!” You check your surroundings and notice that the stairways up to the second floor have all been blocked out by black light, walls of pure black mana. A couple people unfortunate enough to try crossing them fall down to the floor, dead. There are several hundred people left in the casino now, some staff members who choose to compete, and a single gold golem which has inexplicably appeared near the entrance fountain. >>3507675You head to the bar and plant a hand on top of it before leaping over. Nina follows behind you, pulling up the bar panel employees would use, and shooting worried glances at you all the while. She wouldn’t understand, vaulting over bars is something that cool people do, just like in the movies. You need to practice now in case you get into a gunfight on one of the upper floors. You sneak back into the staff area of the bar without any of the other competitors noticing and see a large employee only door, a path leading into a small storage room, a janitor’s closet, and a door with yellow emergency tape covering it. The first thing you do is check the yellow taped door, to find the thing is completely knocked off its hinges. Investigating further you see that this was the door that the gold golem had likely come through, and the door itself is slightly bent outward, and a path to the lower floors stretches before you. The storage room has nothing of real importance except alcohol and a small freezer room containing premade food to serve to bar patrons. Finally the staff door is locked, baring your most promising lead.Decisions:1. *kick the staff door open*2. *use another method on the door* (Write in)3. *ask Nina for advice* (write in)4. *head back to the casino floor*

>>3507725Thinking quickly, you grab the most expensive looking vintage out from the wine storage and stuff it inside your trench coat. You really hope the thing doesn’t shatter during your upcoming climb, you can’t stand the idea of having your trench coat stained purple. Purple looks awful on you. “Nina, I want you to use acid to get through the doorway, you mentioned you had a few vials of the stuff, correct?” “Yes I do, good thinking.” Nina said, grabbing a bottle from a pouch on her shoulder and positioning it over the doorknob. She almost poured its contents out before you manage to stop her.“Not the doorknob, the hinges! If the door doesn’t open after you melt the knob off then there’d be no point!”“Ah…” She says, realizing what she’d almost done. “Right, fine, stand back please.” She grabs a bottle with two openings on it from out of her jacket. One for pouring liquid into and the other for depositing it. The depositing arm is long, thin, and hollow, and ends in a small opening. “It’s for pouring acid out without getting it all over yourself.” Nina says, dropping to the ground and pulling out a glass funnel. She carefully pours the acid vial into the pouring bottle and uses a glass chemistry stopper to seal off the opening. She then very carefully pours its contents onto the metal hinges and you watch in amazement as the acid begins to eat through the metal at an alarming rate. “I cooked this up myself, my own acid recipe!” She says. “It’s a bit slower acting then the really good stuff but it doesn’t eat through glass so it’s easier to store. What do you think?”You begin to respond but have to stop the door from falling on Nina’s head.“Help” Nina rushes to assist you and the two of you lower the now unhinged door to the floor, quietly. Through the new opening you spot a set of workers corridors that run through the casino. From what you understand these are used so employees can restock different restaurants and stores, if you’re lucky there will be elevators located further inside. A way up to the second floor for sure. As you head down the hallway you hear growling noises coming from around a corner. You carefully peak your head around and notice a couple of very strange looking creatures. Like across between an octopus and a dog, the thing are a swarming mass of tentacles and biting mouths, idly squirming along the ground and snapping at the security cameras whenever they swivel. >>3507861Yes and no. Illusions are a different branch of blue mana spellcasting. Some illusions can even deal damage to opponents. Mental mages aren't able to affect anyone who can see their spells, they generally can only attack one, or maybe a couple, opponents at a time. When I said perceptions I meant the things they personally experience, but I realize how that can be a bit blurry of a line.

The woman reaches for a couple of vials in a pouch on her waist. “No, I know a little trick.” You reply. You gather up a good chunk of blue mana in your hand for about a minute, thinking of what exactly you’re going to do to those creatures minds, or whatever passes for it. The main idea is to get the creatures stuck in a sort of mental loop, unable to react or process information for a little bit. It doesn’t usually work as well on things with high levels of intelligence, like humans, but those things don’t seem to be too smart… and besides you can probably outrun them. You hurl the two bolts of blue mana at the creatures, hitting both perfectly. Not missing a beat you grab Nina’s arm and pull her along. To her credit she doesn’t complain and even manages to keep up with you. You pass the creatures and reach a service elevator at the end of the hallway. You smash your hand into the up button to find that the elevator is several floors up. “Uh… how long does the spell last?” Nina asks, backing up against the elevator door and reaching for a few more of her vials.“Maybe ten more seconds, don’t panic.” You say, calmly. “Worst case we have a few bite wounds, just stay put here, don’t try and run back through them.”The doors open right as the spell wears off on the dogtopusses, the creatures shake their heads to clear the effects of the spell away, and immediately take notice of the two new presences by the elevator. The dogs rush at you as the doors creak open.Nina falls backwards into the elevator as you rush inside. You carelessly push her out of the way and slam the ‘close door’ button several times until the doors slide shut. The scratching, howling and gurgling chill you to your core, but the creatures are unable to break inside. “How did you know how to do that…” Nina says, gasping for air. The woman is keeping it together far more than you thought she would, but she obviously has her limits.Decisions:1. “used to be a professor at a mages college”2. “I did a bit of corporate espionage in my youth”3. “A magician doesn’t reveal his tricks”4. The elevator rumbles up and the faint sound of music plays from a busted speaker system. The lift isn’t all that well decorated. Gray paneling and a couple of mirrors on the back the only thing keeping the elevator from just being a simple moving box. “Something the matter with that?” You ask.“Well, I’m a bit on edge right now, is all.” She replies. “I said I ran from home right? She pulls out a vial with a nasty barf colored chemical of some kind in it and holds it like she’s about to throw it. You tense up even further when a loud ding goes off from the elevator as you reach the second floor of the casino.“SECOND FLOOR, SHOPPING MALL!” The elevator chimes cheerfully. Kind of odd that they’d have that in an employee lift, but you suppose it’s a nice touch.“Nina, please put whatever that is away and come on out, the elevator might return to the ground floor with you in it.”Nina slowly and shakily gets up off the floor and reluctantly follows you. The woman is eyeing you nervously now and shivering. You wonder just what she’s had to go through to end up like this. “I need some b-bubble gum.” Nina says, reaching into a pouch and pulling out a few more pieces. “I l-lost the old pieces during the a-arena fight. D-don’t l-look at me like that.” “Be happy that I was not so keen on bringing you in the moment I saw you. A couple flashes of light occur spontaneously and you feel compelled to hold out your hand, a third extremely dark flash of black light goes off and you find a golden poker chip in your hand, pulsing with mana. “What is this?” Nina asks, holding up a poker chip of her own to the light.“Might be part of this floors challenge.” You say.You pass a few more staff rooms before ending up in a mall corridor. The mall is a massive structure, dwarfing the casino’s lower floor. You read in a pamphlet that the Dead End mall is considered one of the key attractions of the casino, and boasts around two hundred stores. You see a couple other competitors milling around a giant runeovision in a grand plaza. The device is suspended from two story clock tower set under a black starry ceiling. The mall’s hallways are like city streets, fake gothic architecture giving the mall more class than you would’ve thought possible. Tons of stores windows display all sorts of different products. “The central plaza there is the center of the mall.” Nina says. “Has a nice wishing fountain, and a really good ice cream shop.” “Maybe once this is all done we can get some.” You offer.Decisions:1. *head towards the central plaza*2. *find a place to hide for the time being, you don’t know what this floors challenge is going to be*3. *head away from the plaza*4. *head back towards the staff areas*5. >>3509913You find a nice little pizza place nestled inside what looks to be a church façade. There is still a good amount of food behind the counter and you help yourself to some while Nina explores the kitchen in the back. You enjoy the peace and quiet, you’d barely been able to think at all downstairs. “So what do you make off the coins?” Nina askes, once again rolling her’s over her fingers. “No idea, really.” You reply. “Things are some sort of construct made from mana but I don’t really know their purpose.” “LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, IT’S TIME FOR HIGH STAKES!” The Runeovision declares, blaring to life. The familiar forms of Cancer and Greed flare to life. The studio they’re sitting in has been massively updated, now looking like a talk show for a sports game. “So I think its fairly obvious now, but anyone who’s still on the ground floor has been disqualified!” Cancer says. “As of now out of around four hundred people, about a hundred and twenty have managed to make their way up to the second floor, seems those party favors you left downstairs didn’t do that good of a job!” Greed replied. “Well not really my golden friend, if we thinned their numbers too much then there wouldn’t have been much of a show right? Anywho as for now, the second round will start after this little broadcast is concluded. So no killing each other until then, got it?” Cancer said.”“And speaking of which, you might need to. I’m sure you’ve all seen the tokens I’ve given you, each of you has one token, assuming nobody has been dumb enough to throw theirs away.” “Well don’t be mean, I’m sure they’re all very smart!” Cancer says. “They decided to compete after all!”
>>3510007“Right, well, there is only one way up to the third floor, and for that, you’ll need three tokens! It doesn’t matter exactly how you get them, you can use violence, cunning, or you can make a deal with the contestant, but unless you present three tokens to one of the five barriers at each of the stairwells including the one in the central plaza, or you will not be able to gain access to the water park!” “Well looks like our lovely contests are going to have to shop till they drop!” Cancer said. “But before that, we felt it would be fair to talk about a few of the contestants as we felt a couple of them had far too many advantages.” “So first off, Hera Vel Resma, a valuable member of our staff, has decided to compete. This woman is a real angel.” Greed said. “Not a figure of speech folks, she’s actually an angel, a Bazaar employee correct?” Cancer added.“Righto Cancerino, the woman utilizes black and white mana for a very powerful set of spells. Not only that the woman is extremely talented, bringing over three hundred years of experience to bear in today’s tournament. The Bazaar is run by Barter himself, and he has only ever been known to hire quality people!” An image of a white haired woman with a halo made of gold and some very expensive looking clothing flashes on screen. You notice the weird visor sunglasses thing she’s wearing long before you notice the two wings she has. She really is an angel, shit. “Secondly, Ash Worlford. A beast tamer from the arena, who carved a swath of destruction downstairs before one of Greed’s golems put a stop to her. Due to her interesting outlook and go getter attitude, we allowed her to stay in the tournament. Besides you need that kind of crowd pleaser to keep things interesting!” A woman with raggedy hair and a very unpleasant demeanor flashes onto the screen. She’s riding a massive four legged reptile with a long barbed tail and razor sharp teeth. You could easily imagine this person being a psychopath.
>>3510015“Thirdly, Min, one of my own creations, is competing today!” Cancer said cheerfully. “Of course I can’t play favorites, but honestly I don’t really have to. This man is one of the key people on my… soul reclamation squads, but that’s all hush hush. Let’s just say he’s a very talented marksman and a very stealthy son of a bitch. If he has you in his sights your heads going to pop open like a balloon!” An image of the Vet flashes onto the screen, so Min was his name? The man is shouldering a very heavy looking sniper rifle in one hand and an array of mana bullets in the other. You wonder how the hell he managed to smuggle something like that into the casino.“Finally, we have Itachi, not really sure who he is exactly.” Greed said. “All I know is he’s one of them insect people from that bug world, Gendoli.” “OH you mean Harvest’s little plane?” Cancer said. “Haven’t visited there in AGES! Those guys use some really weird forms of magic. The man managed to take down a trio of mages on his own inside an elevator so make sure you keep on your toes if you face him!” A creature resembling a cross between a man and a beetle flashes onto the screen. He’s wearing weird silk clothing resembling a bathrobe but the main thing is a pair of swords strapped to his waist. You know that the plane of Gendoli is practically sealed off in comparison to Paradise and that its warriors are well renowned. You wonder what exactly would draw one of them to a place like this.“And that my friends, is the end of our little broadcast, put on a good performance! This is going out live!” Cancer said. With that, the feed cut out, and all hell broke loose in the central square. >>3510018“Run!” You say, not wasting a moment. The two of you rush down shop lined streets, all the while the sounds of people fighting and dying fill the corridor behind you. By the time you’ve ducked into a small clothing boutique the sounds have died down to a murmur. The fighting has stopped for the time being it seems. “We need to pick some people off.” You say, gasping to catch your breath.“I… just… let’s try not to hurt people, okay?” Nina pleads. “Right, we’re just going to hit them with a few spells, take their coins, then knock them out. We only need two coins.”“Four, two more for both of us.” Nina says. ‘Several minutes pass before anyone comes down the hallway, but you can hear the occasional gunshot or sounds of swords clashing. “Olly Olly Oxenfree!” A nasally voice calls out from the hallway. “Where did everyone run off to!” The goblin from before, the one that had set up the bets down by the Battle Pit, flanked by a couple of paper golems. Frail but sharp creatures conjured up using a golemic core and a summoning spell. The things would likely be on the dumber side given the owner and the materials they’d been made out of. >>3510063You watch as the goblin continues to take a nice evening stroll through the empty streets of the shopping center, completely oblivious to you presence. “Nina, do you have anything like a stun or a flash grenade?” You whisper.“I have something, hold on.” The woman says, digging through her pouches and pulling out a fancy piece of metal with a couple of runic symbols carved onto it. “A flashbang rune?” You ask. “Yes, it won’t affect the golems though. I believe I could make a Molotov with that bottle of wine you have and a lighter if you carry one. It should allow us to deal with the golems.” “Right, that’s not a bad plan.” “Ah there’s somebody!” The goblin says enthusiastically. You tense up and reach for your weapon before you realize the goblin has turned his attention to a corpse laying upon a rapidly growing pile of blood. The goblin immediately kicks the corpse onto its back and begins to excitedly rifle through its pockets, all the while going on about what good fortune he must have. Decisions:1. *strike now*2. *wait*3. *fall back*4. (write in)
>>35101022. *wait*Rapidly growing, he just died, the killer is around
>>3510102Wait a bit, if no one attacks we attack the goblin
>>3510102You motion for Nina to wait while you do the same. The body is fresh, the killer must be nearby. But where? You watch as the goblin continues to investigate the body before standing up and viciously kicking the corpse, uttering a stream of curses having to do with the corpse’s lack of tokens. You feel a chill run down your spine as you detect movement inside a nearby bookshop. Someone with a bow has lined up a shot on the goblin. A moment later an arrow flies through the opened doorway of the bookstore towards the goblins skull. The arrow is stopped by one of the golems and the goblin cracks a grin and casually turns around.“There we feckin go!” He says, a wide smile and a maniac expression on his face. “Go get the guy with the bow, boys!” He says to the two paper golems. The golems charge off after the bowman while the attacker retreats further into the bookstore, leaving you, Nina, and the goblin. “Alright time to make a few more!” The goblin says, opening up his backpack and digging through it. He pulls a couple more golemic cores and a several stacks of paper out and tosses them onto the ground, shredding them a bit with a small knife while gathering up red mana in his hands. You figure he’s just charging the cores, red mana is hardly suited towards making anything as stable as a golem. You also realize just how dangerous he could be. The goblin could very well be capable of bolt spells, things that could fry you or Nina to a crisp if they properly connect. You remember that you have both dispel and cancel spells available, either to block or disrupt the spell in transit. Decisions:1. *make a move, killing the goblin should dispel the golems.*2. *flee*3. *head towards the bookstore to try and steal the golems kill. You’re fairly sure the things won’t attack you as they haven’t been ordered to.*

>>3510225“We need to make a move now.” You say. Nina nods and the two of you creep your way towards the goblin, ducking into and out of shops while the little green guy builds up mana in his hands. There are two ways you can play this, lethally or nonlethally. The lethal option would be simpler and would likely dispel the golems, and the nonlethal would probably just render them harmless as they wouldn’t be able to get any new commands. Either way you needed to strike him fast and not give him any time to respond.Decisions:1. *lethal*2. *nonlethal*Secondary Decisions:1. Korvin’s actions (write in)2. Nina’s actions (write in)

>>3510298SupportBut if things get ugly or if he manages to summon more golens quickly change to lethal
>>3510291“We’re not going to kill him, we need to knock him out, get the flashbang rune ready and we’ll rush him.” “Got it.” Nina responds, pulling out the rune from her pouches and removing a small pin from its underside. “It’s live, soon as I throw it it’ll start counting down.” The grenade sails free, landing right in front of the goblin and going off with a loud whizzing noise. Before the ringing in your ears has even subsided you rush at the goblin, who has begun to curse and swipe in random directions with his hands. “HELP ME GOD DAMN IT!” The goblin responds before you manage to tackle him to the ground. You manage to cast a sleep spell point blank at the panicking goblin who goes limp before he’s able to do anything else. You nervously turn your head back towards the bookstore but find nothing coming to kill you. The golems must’ve been too far away to hear his order. Thank god. You check his pockets and find the chip and a bunch of cash and tombstone which you decide to pocket. The guy must’ve kept all of the money from his little betting pool, you’re sure he’ll be appreciative that you spared his life in exchange for it. You now have three chips between the two of you, you feel pretty good about things now. As an afterthought you drag the goblin back into the pizzeria. You don’t want the poor bugger to get his throat slit even if his treatment of corpses leaves much to be desired. Now there just happens to be the matter of the archer…You notice the golems haven’t returned yet, which is odd. >WRITE IN

>>3510329You have Nina grab some clothing from a neighboring store so that you can properly bound and gag the goblin. The work was a rush job both due to time restraints and your own inexperience. You generally use the pair of anti-magic handcuffs that you carry around but you’d much rather save those for an actually dangerous opponent. Assuming you last long enough to find one, of course. You leave the goblin prone on one of the booth seats so he is out of view from any passersby, then head out in search of the archer. You carefully make your way across the street, the sounds of combat still coming from all directions. You quickly find a trail of blood inside the bookstore which leads through a back exit into another ‘street’ where you find a pinned paper golem. The golem has been incapacitated by several arrows shot through it. The construct struggles weakly but it isn’t likely to go anywhere. You continue to follow the trail of blood until you arrive upon a ghastly scene. The remains of the second paper golem are scattered around and the archer is hunched up around a shopfront, barely breathing. The second the man notices you he has an arrow at the ready but then falters, blood trickling down his mouth. He’s really fucked up.“We need to help him!” Nina says, panic evident in her voice. You’re not so sure you’re that nice of a guy. >>3512600You cast a paralyze spell and easily hit the defenseless archer. The arrow that had been readied skids across the ground, the man had barely been able to draw the thing back, let alone aim it.“S-stop… stay back.” He pleads. “Please.” “Look pal, just stop fighting us and we’ll keep you alive, alright? You’re already out of this tourney.” You say, closing the gap and beginning to rifle through the man’s pockets in search of the token. Across the street on the second floor of a nearby store, a couple of red eyes watch you ominously. Before slowly and silently creeping away from the window, leaving you none the wiser.“Look, Nina. This guy murdered that other guy near the bookstore’s entrance.” “I took a quick look at the body, and uh, it didn’t look like arrow wounds.” Nina replied. “Where the fuck is your token?” You say. “If you’ve hidden it somewhere you better spill the beans before I get my plyers out.” “No… trap…” The man says, rapsy breathing sluring the words around.“What?! Speak up!” You demand, shaking the man a bit as he groans in pain.“So what’s with the choker?” Nina asks. “Odd thing for a man to wear.” Your attention is brought to a thing band of metal looped around the Archer’s neck, thrumming with a small amount of red mana. There is a small red gem on it which pulses with red mana every few seconds.“Is that a shock collar?” You ask. “Aw shit.” A moment later the second story window bursts outwards as the massive form of a lizard crashes through it, landing with practiced ease onto the streets below. Atop its hulking form is a petite woman dressed up in a bloodied Tombstone employee outfit. The woman’s auburn hair flows as the beast skids to a stop. Easily keeping balance atop the undulating form of the Skull Raptor. The beast is a four legged lizard bigger than a bear and much meaner than one too. You notice the woman’s hands are clawed gauntlets resembling the Skull Raptor’s and it slowly begins to dawn on you who this is and just how fucked you are. ========================(BOSS FIGHT)===========================Ash Worlford The Mauler & Gumball, The Trusty SteedVsKorvin the Mental Mage & Nina the AlchemistTheme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcf7DnHi54gActions:1. The shops windows are barred on the outside and metal safety shutters have been pulled down on the inside, giving you ample protection. All sorts of swords, axes, and armor pieces line every square inch of the place. >Rolled a 16“We can slay the dragon!” Nina says, half panicking. “Get a sword or something!” “It’s a giant lizard not a dragon!” You reply, trying to find something of use. It’s a miracle she hasn’t completely panicked yet and you don’t want to tempt fate. So you check the back behind the counter and find that it connects to the store next door, some kind of restaurant based on what you saw coming in. You rush back towards the front and hide behind a set of shelving, gun cocked and loaded, ready for that bitch to walk inside. “Not coming out?!” Ash calls out. “Fine by me!” “Here she comes.” You whisper to Nina. The woman grabs a dangerous looking sword off a shelf and prepares to bring it down in an overhand swing. Her form is atrocious but if it connects it could sever a limb. You get ready to enact your plan but a couple of details screw everything up. 1. Ash wasn’t dumb enough to leave her mount and go into enemy territory2. You find a couple of propane tanks sprawled out along the floor, a bunch of kitchen equipment, and a poster explaining that the gas connection is broken and is scheduled for maintenance the next day. You lay Nina down and cast a couple of spells to dull the pain she’s experiencing. You place your hands on her shoulders, stare her in the eyes, and tell her it’s all going to be okay, and then you plant a quick peck on the lips. The woman’s face becomes as red as a tomato and she summarily plants a nasty slap on your face. You are sent sprawling onto your back as the woman stands up and begins to rifle through her pouches for something particularly nasty. “Glad to see you’re back Nina.” You say. “I didn’t want to slap such a beautiful face so I decided that was the next best option.”Nina begins to criticize you for both being an indecent savage and a massive asshole before the storefront next door shakes and you hear Ash demand that you step outside before you burn to death. The woman is completely unaware that the two storefronts had a connecting hallway, it seems. You gather up a couple of propane tanks and check your pistol once more. Six rounds in the chamber, and two more in reserve, better make them count. The woman seems to be very hard to hit while she’s on top of the death raptor. Especially with that green mana magic she’s been using to boost her reflexes. You realize uneasily that you’ll need to throw her off of the beast or get a point blank shot to actually put a round in her. “So what’s the plan then, asshole?” Nina asks. “Well I think we can use the propane as an explosive if we tie them together and wheel that pallet out.” You say as the building shakes again. You poke your head out and see that Ash has gotten her mount to tear off parts of the metal bars that cover the weapon stores windows. There is smoke pouring out of the shop now and it seems the sprinkler system hasn’t quite activated yet. Ducking back inside you find Nina rushing to tie the propane tanks together with a set of zipties she managed to scrounge up. The homemade bomb rests on the pallet. Ready to go off the second you land a round into the thing. You’ve seen enough movies to know you don’t want to be anywhere near it once it goes off. >>3513711You decide that enough is enough. You need to end this, and end this now. You’ve seen what happens when people lose loved ones and it’s never pretty. The woman is either going to snap completely, try to take her own life, or try to bring both of you down with her. With that in mind, what you do next makes perfect sense. You walk close enough where you are guaranteed a hit, and cast paralyze from your palm. After that you cast silence on her to restrict her magic usage, rendering her helpless.> Point blank paralyze + silence on traumatized opponent = instant successAsh goes limp and slides down along a hill of viscera as the spell takes immediate effect. The silencing spells’ effect comes next, putting a stop to the red and green mana gushing from her palms. The woman goes quiet as what has just happened dawns upon her.“Just… just make it quick… please.” She says. “I… I didn’t torture anyone… I….I just ….just make it quick… please… gumball… I’ll be with you soon…”“I don’t intend to kill you.” You reply, trying to ease a woman who’d obviously snapped. “What are you on about, it was just an animal.” Nina chimes in. Wiping the vomit from her mouth and retching again when she turns to face the corpse. The woman manages to hold the tide of stomach juices in for the moment. You watch as she falls to a sitting position, facing away from Gumball’s corpse. You pull Ash out of the carcass and look her over. From what you can tell she isn’t too injured, the explosion from the earlier chase left some fairly nasty burns but otherwise she got out unscathed. “HE WAS LIKE A BROTHER TO ME!” She screams, “He was all I had you bitch!” “Then why did you compete in a death game with him you psychopath.” Nina replies.“Leave me alone.” Ash says, struggling to move but finding her body unresponsive. Decisions:1. *dive into her mind to figure out her motives, and what happened*2. *just put her to sleep, no point trying to understand this madwoman*3. *Put a bullet into her skull, no sense having an enemy in the future who hates your guts*4. *continue to talk to her* (write in)5. >>3514271“Nina, can you guard me while I take a look in this woman’s mind?” You ask. “Yeah, sure… let’s just uh, let’s find a place that’s secure.”“Obviously.” The two of you drag Ash’s limp body back into the restaurant from before. The fire next door having been completely extinguished by the sprinkler system, allowing you to rest a bit easier. You check her person for the chips but come up empty. You consider going back to the place she ambushed you from but you know a far quicker and easier method. “What are you doing to me?” Ash screams, desperately trying to fight her way out of invisible bonds. The woman is paralyzed from the neck down so it’s mainly just a bunch of neck wiggling at this point.“Take your lumps.” You say. Before gathering up the required mana and beginning to cast a spell to enter into her mind. You prepare several protective spells on yourself first, not completely confident in your abilities to get out unscathed. Then, without any more thought, you dive right in. You find yourself in a massive ghetto, located in the city of Pearls where the Tombstone is located. A frail child clutches an egg as she runs from a couple of very angry thugs. The men chase her for a time as you feel yourself getting dragged along for the ride. Eventually the girl manages to lose them, hiding fearfully in a dumpster among rotting food and rotten dreams. She waits for several minutes before exiting, hurrying along to a small hovel underneath an underpass. A train rolls by as the girl begins to upack her prize. A Skull raptor egg. A luxury item. The woman stares at it with eyes full of hunger. You notice the girl is emaciated and likely hasn’t had a meal in some time. The girl presses her hands against the egg for a time, then presses her ear against it.“So you’re alive in there huh?” She asks. “I’m sorry… but I want to live too…” She says, rummaging through her things and bringing out a small hammer. “I… I’m sorry.” She says to nobody but herself. She goes to bring the hammer down but stops at the last moment, breaking into sobs. “I … I can’t… god damn it!” The girl goes to bed hungry that night. You watch the train station as weeks pass by, the woman caring for the egg like her own child. Eventually, one night, it hatches, a baby Skull Raptor emerging and crying for its mother, the girl. You recognize a much younger ash, holding it close and feeding it from a carton of stolen milk. >>3514348You watch as time slowly moves forward, bits and pieces of her mind slowly revealing themselves. You can feel her fighting you, but she doesn’t nearly have the experience with mental magic, or the will to really fight you off. You do this for a living after all, breaking and entering into people’s minds to gather information on bounties. Though generally not minds as fractured as hers are at this moment in time. You have to continue the memory as far as possible to get the right information, you figure. It’s all touch and go.The girl is much older now, although this isn’t quite the present day now, based on the posters on the wall and the dates on the newspapers. She’s become feared in the part of the slums she takes residence in, and offers protection for a fee. You know from her memories that she’s taken to calling the beast Gumball, and that food costs are beginning to become a problem due to its growing size. You watch as she tries everything from guard duty to being a delivery girl all the way to putting on street performances for a pittance. Eventually, a talent scout takes notice of her, leading her to the tombstone. The girl is overjoyed, Gumball finally having the food and shelter she knew he deserved. The creature, normally a fierce predator, acts like a small puppy whenever she’s around. She begins to really attempt to control her mana now, learning a few pyromancy and strength boosting spells to give her performances an edge, and allow her to slowly become a casino mainstay. That is, until one day…You watch as if a member of the audience, as the woman preforms a trick with her trusty steed, one she’s performed many times before. She summons hoops of flame that hover in the air, that she and her mount effortlessly jump through. Midway through the act, Gumball screeches in pain and slumps over, causing Ash to impact one of her rings, burning her torso badly. She immediately leaps up and doesn’t even care that her mount’s actions have injured her. She rushes to Gumballs side to see the beast vomit a torrent of blood. “NO!” She screams as the scene pauses, the crowd motionless as the panicking woman in the arena becomes desperate. As she begins to lose hope Gumball slowly wraps his tail around her, comforting her even amidst its own pain. The protective barrier around the arena becomes opaque as the scene fades out.“Out of my mind… please… I don’t…” You hear Ash, the real Ash call. You need to know, you press onwards. You watch as a veterinarian is called in, a few tests are run, and the diagnosis doesn’t look good. Gumball has stomach cancer and is given a year to live at most. You watch as a frantic girl pleads with
>>3514433the Casino manager and anyone who will listen, but none of them care, citing ‘cost concerns’ and saying it’d be cheaper for her to train a few new creatures. “They’re just beasts after all, easily replaceable products. If a light rune stops working, you toss it out! If a trolley gets totaled, you get a new one! Stop whining, you’re skills make you very in demand!” You can feel the incandescent rage and hopelessness build on each other. Gumball is regulated to a bit roll, and the woman sacrifices a promising career to stay with him, staying long nights to console the ailing creature, unable to end its suffering on her own, and too proud to admit her own defeat. Bringing you to the present day. You watch as a group of security guards rushes past Gumball’s cell, the woman watches as they’re butchered in the arena. Panic swelling over the memory. You watch as Greed and Cancer and their golden mount make their way through the underground stables. Cancer getting off and taking a good look at the woman and Gumball. All the while Greed chiding him for wasting time on a nobody. You watch as Ash pulls a switchblade on Cancer placing herself between herself and the madman. You watch as Cancer begins to laugh as if something was hilarious and then grabs a hold of the woman’s arm in a vicegrip, plunging the switchblade into himself over and over, never breaking eye contact with her.“I don’t die dear. I don’t know what it’s like, but I do know there isn’t anything after that. I’ve never seen a human willing to die for a beast before… but you’re something special, something new, and something funny. So I’ll say this, compete in this little game I’m about to start, win, and I can promise you your beastie will long outlive you.” Decisions:1. *confront ash*2. *leave, you’ve seen enough*3. *have a nice little chat with the woman in her own mind, you understand her now*4. >>3514441You decide that you’re ready to have a nice little chat with your gracious host. You understand why she did what she did, but the deaths she’s caused are entirely unacceptable. You wonder if this stroll through memory lane has given her any clarity. You push the memories away from yourself and you find yourself in a small room, a police department interrogation room. You’ve been in these before, all sorts of people trying to get you to say all sorts of things, but things are a bit flipped around, for once you’re asking the questions.Ash sits across from you, both hands handcuffed to the back of her metal chair, which is bolted to the ground for good measure. The woman seems incredibly tired, and much older than her years would suggest.“Why didn’t you just kill me?!” She asks.“I’ve never killed anyone before, I’m not starting with you.” You reply. “Why did you kill all those guests on the first floor.”“I… they were competition, you know that!” She says, not fighting her bindings any longer, but glaring at you all the same. “If I didn’t deal with them then, they might’ve come back to stop me later!” “So you murdered them?” You ask. “Murdered a bunch of random strangers?”“Yes…” Ash says. “Why are you …”“Because learning about random strangers is a bit of a hobby of mine. Everyone has a story to tell.” You say.>write in

I can’t imagine anyone from Paradise being that damn naïve! Do you think anyone does anything for free in this world? Nobody does anything out of the ‘kindness of their heart’ or whatever bullshit you talked about. All that matters is cold hard cash, favors, or fear. I barely make enough to get by with my salary, nobody owes me shit, and I wasn’t fucking stupid enough to force a doctor into operating on him!” Ash continues to glower at you before looking at her lap. Her breathing and heartrate slowing down and something akin to calm settling in its place.“You just want the fucking coins.” Ash said. “At least be honest with me you fucking asshole. You dig through my memories, force me to watch as you take a nice stroll through my entire fucking life. Now you want to… want to…” “I want you to think about what you’ve done.” You say. “I’m sorry about Gumball.” “I’m sorry too. I should’ve… I should’ve used what little time I had left to make his life as good as possible, or just put him out of his misery. I was weak, I couldn’t do it. I see that now. I… that man, with the skull. He saw the desperation in me, and offered me a hand, and I grabbed it and now a lot of people are hurt or dead…” “Yeah. You can’t undo that either.” You say, sadly. “You were trying to kill us too, fairs fair.” “Correct, honestly I’m lucky to escape with my life, I just… when you wake me up. if its okay, could you kill the spell after you leave the floor? I want to be able to mourn. I don’t want to be stuck staring at his corpse for the next few hours… I’m going to make a funeral pyre, and send him off properly. It’s what we did back home to make sure corpse scavengers wouldn’t get to the bodies.”
>>3515280If she tells us where the coibs are we can break the spell after we get them
>>3515280“I can do that, once we hit the next floor.” You say. “Can you tell us where the coins are? “The woman places her head into her hands and slowly scrunches them up. She screams fury and anger for a couple of seconds before dropping them calmly. You figure it’s a way for her to remain calm and lucid. You check her emotions and surface level thoughts to be sure, and find a cold acceptance growing, and a massive surge of guilt. “I have a condition.” The woman says. “I owe you more than I can ever repay, you let me live.” Ash continues. “I have no place here anymore. When this is all over, will you let me work for you? At least until I can get back on my feet and find a way to make an honest living, I guess.” “Nobody’s going to come after you for the deaths?” You ask.“Maybe, but those will be my problems. None of the security forces are going to give a shit, this is officially a Greed sponsored event. Nobody’s going to mess with the golden giant. All those deaths are for other’s enjoyment and all those souls are going into the Mammon vault.” “You’re right.” You say. “Life’s fairly cheap innit.” “Look, all I want is a chance to pay off this debt… you given me a bit of closure and a massive debt of guilt to work off. But I don’t want to owe you for this.” Decision:1. *Let the woman work for you once you’ve gotten the wish coin, show good faith by not having a contract*2. *you want nothing to do with this woman ever again*3. *make a verbal contract between the two of you. >>3515345“I’ll let you work for me, that’s not a problem.” You say with a kind tone in your voice. “So you already have a contract in mind?” Ash asks, the woman is slightly curious although her guilt and sorrow still take up the majority of her emotional capacity.“I don’t think I’ll need one.” You say.“What?!” Ash says, a spike of surprise running through her mind. “Buh…. What?” “I might be dead in a few hours anyways, so there isn’t much of a point.” “But… you murdered my pet right? Aren’t you afraid I might take revenge?”“I can read into your thoughts you know, I know you won’t.” You reply. “But I might change my mind!” Ash says. The woman is very confused, but you feel something else growing inside, hope.“What about your friend?”“Only bound to her until I die or the end of this event, she won’t be a problem.”“Thank you.” Ash says. “I… I don’t think I can ever repay this.”“Nonsense, your strong, you have a good deal of talents, and if you can train beasts half as well as Gumball, then I could easily see you working under me.”
>>3515411“Thank you… the coins are, they’re inside a store called Prize Pavilion. It’s an arcade for kids, I hid them inside a floor safe behind the counter. I overheard the code once, its five seven three four.” “Right, thank you. I’m going to leave Nina with you and check. If you’re telling the truth I’ll cancel the paralyze spell after we get into the water park. Ash flashes a sad smile as the mindscape slowly fades away into nothing. You feel yourself being pulled back into your own mind and you wake up to see Nina pacing around nervously. “Anything new?” You ask.“A couple of people passed by, nobody saw us though.”“Seven tokens.” Ash says suddendly. “I managed to get that many before setting the ambush up. Take them all, and win this fucking thing, okay? I want the person who beat me to be the one who won this fucking thing.”“What did you do to her?” Nina asks. Walking over to you and helping you up off the floor. “We had a talk and came to an understanding.” You reply. “She doesn’t have a reason to participate anymore now that the skull raptor… gumball is gone.” “I… I’m sorry for hurting you.” Ash says after noticing the scar on Nina’s back. You realize that the woman has treated herself and is in much better shape. Resourceful woman. You head out, using a map inside the plaza to find Prize Pavilion. A colorful shop full of games and prizes, meant for children. You wonder if Ash frequented this place, you do recall that she enjoyed her job here because she was able to see things that she couldn’t have otherwise. No way she’d be able to go to an arcade in the Roach District.
>>3515412You find the floor safe easily enough, entering the code and springing it open. You find seven tokens and snatch all of them up greedily. Now you just have to get back to Nina and up to the next floor. You make your way back, even more nervous now. Everything is quiet, the sounds of battle Having died away to be replaced with a terrifying silence. Every screen you can see has a timer slowly counting down, you have about thirty minutes remaining before the round ends and you wash out of the contest. You need to get upstairs. You wander back into the plaza and find that Nina is still where you left her. Ash is asleep on a pile of cushions that Nina had grabbed from a nearby furniture store. “Did you get them?” Nina asks. “Are we still in this?’“Yeah, yeah I got them.” You reply. “Let’s try to make it to the next floor before celebrating.”“Let’s win this thing!” Nina says. Decisions:1. *Rest up and then head out, you’ll be cutting it close but you doubt any real competitors will remain.*2. *head out now and try to cut back through the central plaza, you figure nobody’s left alive there*3. *head for the farthest exit from the central plaza, it’s a long walk but you don’t think anyone will be guarding it.*4. *head for the nearest exit, it’ll be a three minute walk if that, but you know some people have already headed in that direction*

>>3515413You rest for a few minutes before heading out with Nina. The farthest exit from the central plaza, based on the billboard map in front of you, is about a twelve minute walk from your current location. You check the bottle of wine you’ve tucked into your shirt and find that it’s somehow still in one piece. Just like you, completely undamaged, a sign of good luck if nothing else. The walk is a tense and slow going affair. You move from cover to cover, shopfront to shopfront, keeping an eye on any second story windows or small side alleys. Always at the ready for an ambush that never comes. You find a few bodies lying around, either in streets or inside shops. A couple of people are still breathing. Nina spares a few minutes for them, despite your complaints about limited time, tending to each in turn to help them survive. You grumble as you write little notes for each of them to kill the time while waiting for your companion to finish. As you get to your goal, you end up in a large square with a massive fountain in the center. A food court of sorts, with all sorts of lower end restaurants and booths, but the last thing on your mind is food because the place is a charnel house. You see bodies all over, blood trickling into every available drain, and the groans of the dying fill your ears. Nina dry heaves for a couple of minutes as she stares at the destruction. You feel sick to your stomach. You see around twenty bodies in various states of destruction. Oddly enough, the fountain is completely untouched, its water untainted with blood, and its marble façade completely unscathed. The eye of this red hurricane set before you. You walk over to it nervously before washing your face. Cleaning the bits of blood and gore that Gumball’s death had left on you. As you turn around you get a much better idea of what caused this. There are massive gouges in the walls, like someone had taken a blade and cut through them like a pair of scissors through paper. You see bodies in front of a few of them, clean decapitations. You wonder who could’ve done this, and what sort of magic could’ve been responsible.
>>3515538“Holy fuck.” Nina finally says, “What the fuck.” The woman begins to talk again before dry heaving once more. You feel pretty sick yourself. “We should leave, the stairs are just ahead.” You say, pointing over to a fancy archway with a stairwell symbol on it. A dark mana barrier blocks the entryway, and inside the stairwell you can see a security barrier has been erected, completely blocking off the way back downstairs. You can only go up from here. You turn back to the carnage one last time, all sorts of people, goblins, humans, a couple of metal men from Dimora, even what looks to be a golem made of black granite. All inert and lifeless. The stairway up is long but safe. There are a few bloody footprints in a shape you do not recognize leading up the steps, slowly shrinking until stopping suddendly. Someone walked out of that butcher shop. You pray to Sir Chalk, Lady Lock, hell even Greed, hoping that you don’t have to face whoever it is. Once you arrive on the next floor, you’re treated to the sight of a massive indoor waterpark, full of slides, attractions, and a lot of very dangerous people. In front of you is a set of turnstiles and ticket booths. There is a large runeovision hanging from the entrance gate, displaying a timer with about five minutes left on the clock. Nothing left to do but wait you figure. It takes you a moment but you also notice a second number below the timer, twenty four. You figure that’s the amount of participants that made it to this floor. At least you won’t have to wait in any long lines. >>3516498If I'm going to do any crossovers I'd want the full support and assistance of the other QM. As for interplanar travel, its not all that easy unless specific pieces of infrastructure have been set up. Paradise is a large hub for a lot of different planes, including Paradise's own demiplanes such as Factorum and The Reserve.
>>3516518I might as well explain further. The Aetheric Sea separates planes of existence. If you submerge a soul in that, it tends to dissolve unless it has a specific traveler's aspect which is inherent in the soul, or the soul is simply powerful enough to stay whole.
>>3515541You sit down and open up the inner pockets of your trench coat. You snub nosed pistol still sits comfortably in its holster. The bottle of wine you’d snatched earlier is warm to the touch from your body heat, you hope it hasn’t been ruined. You grab out a pair of dice that are carved with a few runic symbols of protection. The things are enchanted with shielding effects and activate based on the commands of the user. The things are one use only, all you can afford with what you make, but they should prove strong enough to deter anything up to small arms fire. You wish you’d splurged a bit and gotten something that would stick to you. You’ll have to careful when you use these as hiding behind a shield for too long will leave you a sitting duck. > Item added to inventory list, 2 shield dice (Polished Steel)(1 Use) The next thing you grab are a pair of bones intricately carved by the shaman you bought them from. The street shaman seemed crazy the first time you’d met him but after using a few of his products you’ve become one of his best customers. The things act like dowsing rods, pulling you towards a specific target if they’re close by enough. Generally within a mile or two at the maximum, based on your abilities. From what the Shaman told you, that’s a great deal greater than average. Scrying was never your strong suit which had always made bounty hunting a tough gig in general. You generally only get called in when scry mages are unable to locate the target. The bones only have a couple of downsides. They’re single use for starters. The things tend to vibrate themselves to pieces after fifteen or so minutes, generating a bit of noise which you’ve used as a distraction in the past. The main risk is the target realizing what you’re doing. The secondary issue is the limitation of their enchantments. You need to know the targets name and what they look like. If you don’t you won’t be able to use them. Considering you work as a bounty hunter, and you generally get provided both when accepting a contract, it’s never really been an issue before. The great thing about these is the person being located doesn’t have a clue what’s happening. Unlike scrying magic these things don’t leave mana residue. >Item added to inventory list, 3 tracker charms (Bone)(1 Use)
>>3515541You grab a couple of hotdogs from a nearby cart and slather toppings on yours, you offer the other to Nina but the woman looks sick, you doubt she could actually eat anything without vomiting it back up. Lightweight. You settle down inside the first aid center that stands by the entrance. The place is secured enough to provide some safety, gets you out of the open, and has a back door if you need to escape. “So how are you doing Nina, you seem a bit sick.” You say. “Stomach bug?” “Fuck you.” Nina snaps back. “I just saw a lizard explode and a bunch of corpses. I have a bunch of images permanently burned into my brain now! I’m not doing great! Thanks for asking!” “Right, you’re a higher class girl, never had to spend a night in the slums before have ya?” You respond, not entirely surprised from her reaction.“You’re from the Roach District?” Nina asks, shock evident in her voice. A hand rises up to her mouth while her eyes flash uncertainty. “Yeah, grew up there, I found I had talent with magic and I managed to teach myself everything I knew from a book I found. The second I could get out I got out, nobody should have to live in that shit hole.” “Really?!” Nina asked. “Father hired a tutor for me but I never had the aptitude for it, so I took to chemistry and here I am. I’ve always wanted to be a mage but I never had the soul for it, apparently. Is that why you let that girl live?”“Huh?”“Ash I think, the filthy lizard rider. The one who tried to kill us!” “Ah… maybe.” You say. “It was a spur of the moment decision, I guess. I’ve just been in her place before, so I know what she’s going through.” “What do you mean?” Nina asks. “Mom died when I was little, nobody knew what happened. She was fine one day and bedridden the next. We couldn’t afford a doctor so she died.” “That’s horrible!” “Fact of life, Nina.” You reply nonchalantly. “All it takes is a run of bad luck and you’re a corpse.” >optional write in>secondary story incoming soon
>>3516592++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++A couple of very important people sit comfortably in front of a warmly lit studio backdrop, attended to by a group of five utterly mundane mortals. The backdrop shows a scene of a well-built living room. Paintings hang from walls. Moonlight shines through a couple of open windows, and a crackling fireplace breaks the occasional silence. The only thing that both figures share is the fact that they wear masks. One wears a large golden mask on his face, with three red gems inlaid on its forehead, a signing bonus given to him when he started his employment. Strips of black cloth and leather shroud his body, a couple straps flow unevenly through the bands, covered with golden masks. A few more lay on the knees of a pair of legs that are far too long for his body. The straps of leather bulge out at odd angles. His arms are similarly hidden. A couple of pieces of black metal stretch from his elbows down to his wrists, ending in small golden clasps that connect to a couple of black gloves covering hands with long thin fingers. His divine symbols hover behind him, proving to the world that he is someone important, as if anyone would need to be told that. The small masks are set in a series of grins and occasionally release small laughs while the main mask simply smiles as the other figure relays a tale of experimentation. Of the various responsibilities foisted upon him and the order’s he’s had to fill out for the creation of monsters, all for a project that needn’t be talked about because of how utterly droll it’s become. The other figure keeps an elk like skull on his head, although it’d be more accurate to say it IS his head, the upper half at least. Tanned skin stretches below, almost like the being is a human. The lower half of his head features a warm smile on a relatively normal face. The elk skull’s horns are veined, ending in a small collection of roses made up of blood vessels, the weird ornaments pulse unevenly, like the entity’s heart decides exactly when it wants to beat, finding schedules to be blasé. He is wrapped up in a fine silk and wool ensemble, leather straps holding it all together. He wears a set of vibrant clothing meant for an exceptionally eccentric individual. He juggles a few orbs of mana in one hand, Green, Red, Blue, while gesticulating with his other hand. His other hand holds a glass of wine while his other other hands shuffle a set of playing cards aimlessly. The game on the table before them long abandoned.
>>3516630The first being is Greed, a true god, a good from air, a concept that fought its way to having a form, then fought and subsumed its way to godhood. A unique individual with a utterly terrifying set of abilities, a man who lived large in his home plane, before traveling with a man he first knew as pride, and then as a man who accepted the name Infinity. He has not discovered the question he cannot answer, he has failed to avoid contentment, and thus he is utterly dwarfed by the being sitting across from him. A being with flesh, and an elk like hat. A dark skinned man with lines of power running over every inch of the skin he chooses to wear at this moment in time. A being that needs no symbols of divinity, for his mere presence is divine. A being who is never content, who always searches for something new to experience and treasure, who finds mortality to be a funny joke. A being who consumed countless worlds whole, including the one he spawned on. That first world scared into his memory, the world in which he ascended into a god from blood, on the backs of the people he mindlessly sacrificed to his ravenous maw. The same world in which he was presented with the question he could not answer, and thus he ascended again, into a creature far greater than a mere god. A creature that was deemed worthy of a name from Father, who ascended a third time into the being sitting in a quiet studio with a fake living room behind him, a glass of wine, three orbs of mana, and a deck of playing cards in his hands. An entity that was enjoying pleasant company and even pleasanter wine. Who had decided to start a contest for a mere trinket just to see what would happen, to saitiate the boredom which had long ago consumed his endless hunger, and who has been enjoying ever sheer moment of it. >>3516646The lights in the studio flicker for a moment before returning to normal. Cancer leans forwards as Greed asks him a question.“What are the importance of Names, exactly?” Greed asks. “I understand you, Barter, and the other Sons all have them, and I notice Infinity had grown in ways I couldn’t imagine after receiving his. What is the purpose of them?”“A name that you did not choose for yourself, yet you accept as your own, is a very powerful thing, an impetus for growth, Greed. It grants you the potential you’ve always had.” Cancer explains. “After cutting a glorious swath through my entire being, ripping me apart without really giving me a chance to fight back , I remember the fear, the sheer terror I felt. For the first and last time I believed I might truly die. He was a being that was far greater than I could ever hope to be, you see. As he rendered me down to a small clump of cells no larger than a child, he offered me a name, or peace. One a great gift, the other a horrible curse. I remember my soon to be brothers, Death and Madness, helping him and watching in awe as he moved effortlessly through any feeble effort I could put up-““That’s not really answering my question.” Greed said. “Peace isn’t a curse, either.” “A name has to be given from someone you respect and fear in equal measure. Someone whose power and authority are absolute. Father is one of the few beings in existence who is like that. The name accounts for the fact he’s chosen to notice you, to consider you worthy of his time. As for the other statement, I’ll assume it was in jest, Greed.” “To consider you worthy of his time?” Greed asked. “Is that really all?” “Is that really all… you know very little, Greed. To gain his notice, you must be mighty indeed, and not only mighty, you must have a special quality of some sort. I cannot hope to know what, all I know is he recognized something in me that I did not know was there. Maybe he knew I’d already been asked the question I could never answer, perhaps it was something else entirely. He offered me a Name all the same, thus I became his Third Son, Cancer.”“I still don’t understand why you accepted such a vile title. Couldn’t he have chosen something more flattering?” Greed exclaimed.
>>3518108“A glorious title that describes as aspect of the being, a Name must do that. There is nothing shameful about what I am, who I am. You’ve tried changing yourself for a long time Greed. Failing of course, you can’t change your nature, not really. I’ve come to accept and cherish mine. Cancerous, all growing, consuming what I wish, and reshaping what I please. Cancer is a fine Name for one such as I.” “Has anyone ever rejected a Name?” Greed asks.“No, nobody who father choose ever rejected. A few failed to attain father’s notice. Only one was ever even the slightest match for him.”“Death?” Greed asks.“Ha, my older brother? He is indeed powerful, one of the strongest of us by leaps and bounds, yet he is nothing but a piece of driftwood before father. No, Tycho was the one who gave father trouble.”“The Mad Time God? >>3518113++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++You sit beside Nina on a small couch inside the medical building’s lobby. You cast nervous glances towards the clear glass door, expecting any moment for it to be shattered inwards as some mighty combatant strides forth. You had finished your food but a minute ago and are now just sitting in silence as the round timer runs down. You hope that the next round will not be more than you can handle. The number at the bottom of the timer has climbed to twenty seven now, as the final contenders have entered the waterpark. “I don’t mean to be rude, Nina. But I think you had your share of the world already, after leaving home, or even before it based on what your father wanted for you.”“Please don’t give me pity, Korvin, I don’t want it.” Nina replies. “I just want to get out of this stupid contract so I can get back to living my life, nothing more, nothing less.” “Seems you’ve gotten over what you saw downstairs at least.”“Please don’t remind me.” Nina says, “I don’t want to have an empty stomach again’You look down at the empty container beside her, one that had contained a hotdog until a minute ago. The woman had managed to regain her appetite, or perhaps she’d just forced herself to eat. It was admirable, in some sense.“After working this long in the biz, Nina, I’ve realized that everybody wants something. I’d go so far as to say everybody needs to want something. Otherwise they aren’t really living. Lotta people won’t ask for permission or care about the consequences either, cause they don’t care, they can’t care, or they aren’t able to care. You’re lucky, Nina, after we win you can go wherever you want, you don’t have any ties to this place, or anybody. Not everyone can leave their personal Roach District.” Nina went to respond with something, a sort of flustered agitation and restrained unease crossing her beautiful face. She was interrupted by a loud horn as the next round begun. “WELCOME BACK TO HIGH STAKES!” An announcer’s voice rang out. The Runeovision hanging on the wall inside the lobby had become active and was broadcasting a studio backdrop that had more care put into it compared to the prior round. In all respects it looked like a high end living room, a place where anyone would want to sit down and share conversation and a few good drinks. Even the High Stakes’ sign hanging above it was far more decorated, bright gold and red plates creating a very interesting display piece. “So it looks like only twenty seven contestants actually made it up to the third floor, ey Cancer?” Greed asks, putting on his best impression of a sportscaster. “Looks like it Greed, far more than I was expecting, truth be told. Seems that we need to weed out the pack a bit more, and given their performance from last round I expect a wondrous show!”
>>3518255“Seems one of our heavy hitters didn’t make the climb up.” Greed says, pulling out a set of stereotypical reading glasses and scanning over a stack of papers. “Ash the beast tamer flared out. Wasn’t that one of the people you thought would win Cancer?” “I did predict she’d make it to the semifinals.” Cancer admitted with a smile. “Geeze, must hurt being wrong huh?” Greed said, snickering a bit.“I LOVE LOVE LOVE being wrong Greed, who would ever want to be right all the time? Do you have any idea how amazingly, utterly, stupefying boring that’d be!” Cancer replied. Greed’s jaw dropped for a moment from the sheer emotion Cancer had put on display. “So anyways folks, welcome to the third round of high stakes, The Slaughterpark! Each of you will soon be receiving a bounty! You need to kill the person on that bounty to be able to proceed to the next floor. If that person dies via some other cause, say another competitor, you’re out of luck!” Cancer said, jump starting the conversation back up without giving Greed any time to recover.“That’s a bit unfair Cancer, what if one of these poor contestants isn’t a violent maniac?” Greed said, a mocking form of worry, like a kindly mother chastising her child, was conveyed by his tone. “Fair enough…. If you don’t want to entertain our viewer with gruesome blood sport, then all you need to do is make your opponent surrender, whether willingly or unwillingly. But they do need to surrender!” Cancer exclaimed, spilling a bit of wine as he gestured with the only two arms he had. “That’s much more fair, if I do say so myself.” Greed added. “The round starts now everybody, try not to die!”
>>3518260The feed cut out, leaving both you and Nina in stunned silence. A couple of photographs materialize in the air in front of you, hanging there as you try to process. As if growing impatient, the photographs flutter to the floor, leaving you scrambling to pick them up as Nina’s face goes pale. On Nina’s photograph is a large bearded man with rolls of paper carried around in an oversized backpack, along with jars of ink and wax carried around in hip pouches. A contract broker of some sort you believe. A very dangerous type of mage who uses things that have been contractually loaned to them, and who can loan those same things out for the right price, things like magic, talent, weapons, information, or even sparks of divinity if their reach is big enough. Your photograph contains what appears to be a peculiar cross between a man and a beetle. A couple of thin blades in finely decorated sheaths are held along his waist. The man wears an odd silk robe and has a couple of wooden sandals on his feet. An iron helmet in the shape of a straw hat sits upon his head. His eyes are like an insects and the parts of his body that aren’t covered by silk shine in the light, a carapace shell. >>3518262You set to work immediately, pulling out one of your tracker bones and sending a quick pulse of blue mana into it, using Itachi’s name and face to give the bone something to be pulled towards. You smile as the thing swivels in the direction of the water park’s entrance. >Rolled 12, success“We need to be careful.” Nina says. “It’s going to get really dangerous now, this floor isn’t as big… and we’ll be out in the open more.”“I know.” You say, grabbing onto the tracking bone tightly to ensure it doesn’t escape your grasp. It vibrations cause a bit more noise than you would’ve liked but you’ll have to live with it. Waiting around isn’t an option. You don’t think Itachi will die on his own, really, but you need to hurry. Otherwise Nina might get stranded on this floor. “Hey Korvin.” Nina said, rubbing her left arm. “I just uh… wanted to say thank you, for risking your life for me, and letting me tag along.”“I’ve been doing this for myself from the start, what are you talking about?”“Thanks.” Nina says anyway. “At the very least you’ve given me a bit of hope.” You exit the clinic, make your way over to the front gate and hop the turnstile, Nina follows you by ducking underneath. You make your way past a couple of slides and a kiddie pool as the sounds of combat begin to break out around you. You don’t think anyone besides the person after you would risk tangling with you but you cannot be sure. The announcer had also said that only one of the four heavy hitters had failed to make it this far, so that meant there was an angel lurking around. The woman would be unlikely to fly here though, it’d leave her a sitting duck. So you’d probably have a chance to escape if you were her target, you hope. “So why did you decide to enter this death game?” Nina asks. Father offer him a name on their third meeting, and the role as a minister in his fledgling imperium. Barters mana colors are red, black, and white. A combination known as king’s colors, although he doesn’t truly rule like a king, if anything his rule is akin to a mafia don. As long as proper respect and payment is given within a good timeframe, he often overlooks his subordinates actions. His lands are prosperous in a way, and Paradise is considered to be the biggest trading hub in Father’s Imperium. Its a world connected to many others for many reasons.

If it weren’t for the noise the generator was kicking up you’d have serious concerns about being detected. “Nina, you still have lightning bottles correct?” You ask.“Yes I have three, do you think our opponent is weak to lightning or something?” She says in jest.“Tell me, what would happen if you threw one of them into the water and it broke open?” “It’d spread a massive jolt of electricity in a circle around it, but there’s no way it’d be strong enough to cover the entire pool.”“Use all of them then.” You reply.“What?”“I said use all of them, quickly before he changes positions!” You demand, motioning for the woman to hurry up before your chance slips away. The woman grabs what appears to be a set of egg timers out of one pouch, and three tiny jars filled with what looks to be frozen pieces of lightning from another pouch that is heavily insulated with rubber and padded with foam.“The timers will go off all at once, ten seconds after I set them. They should crack the jars open and the effect might work, I don’t make any promises, and you owe me for this, Korvin, these things are incredibly hard to come by!” “I’ll pay you back when we win.” You declare. “Come on!” Nina sighs, kisses each bottle goodbye, and then tosses them into the water near the generator. Approximately seven seconds later, an incredibly massive discharge of pure electricity rockets through the water, frying anything in its path. It looks like the blade drags a chunk of water with it while a good chunk of white mana flows from both of his hands into the blade. He manages to deflect the bullet, barely, but he falters from the impact, his body writhing in pain. The water begins to travel towards you, cutting a beach chair in half, before disintegrating halfway, likely due to his impaired focus. >Rolled 19 for block, 5 for attack.Nina grabs out a couple of vials while downing a fairly nasty looking yellow potion. Her skin seems to harden the second she does. It looks like she might be able to take another hit or two based on that alone. >Nina uses Iron Skin Potion, gains additional saving throw against successful attacks, after four turns will become dizzy and confused and will be susceptible to critical hits. You get ready to cast a blue mana spell, but realize that Itachi would likely dodge or block it with his blade. You need to get closer to get a clean shot off, or lure him towards you somehow. The bugman seems to have gotten a bit of his mojo back, as his sluggish movements have more or less returned to normal, but you notice that every step is pained, he’s taken some damage from the lighting for sure. Nina hands you a pink potion in a pyramid shaped bottle, you have no idea what it does and the woman doesn’t have time to explain it to you, you’ll need to drink it fast if you decide to do so.Decision:1. Korvin’s Action2. Nina’s Action
>>3523656Drink itTry to silence him so he can't csdt thst dhit too
>>3523656Drink the strange liquid, try to lure him away from the water
>>3523656>>3523712Try and surround him, make him split his focus.
Wasn't the bug supposed to be stunned for a turn after we hit him with lightning? Also, QM could you roll in thread or let the players roll? It's more engaging that way
>>3524001>>3523693>>3523848>>3523712>>3523935writing. The stun effect prevents movement across the battlefield, not attack/defense actions. Itachi was unable to move from his current position due to residual electricity coursing through his body.
>>3523656The first thing you do is drink the weird pink liquid out of the pyramid vial. It tastes like peppermint, battery acid, and aioli. You feel a small surge of energy flow through you. You notice your able to concentrate on the target far easier, and you feel like your stamina has been dramatically increased. You just have to wonder what side effects this will inflict upon you. >Gain Status: Dull Pain, Tirelessness, Eagle Eye, Fleet Foot, Steady Hands. Effects last for six turns, unknown effect upon withdrawl. You rush towards the bug, closing much of the distance between the two of you. You watch as Nina leaps over the railing and onto the shoreline, her body easily absorbing the impact from landing. She digs through her pouches as you follow behind her. The woman’s defensive abilities appear to have been significantly augmented. You cast a couple of silence spells, meant to block off your opponents access to aether to prevent them from casting any more spells for a period of time. >Rolled 18 + 3 (steady hands)The bolt sails over the beach chairs in front of you and impacts Itachi, sending the man sprawling back into a set of chairs. Itachi tries to counterattack but gasps as his spell fizzles. Has he never seen a silence spell before? You smile; all he has left is his sword play now. You just have to end this quickly. Opponent rolled 13, opponent unable to block, silenced for 2 turnsNina runs ahead, leaping through the chairs but keeping a good distance away from the bug. He points his sword at her and tries to cast a second spell, letting out some sort of curse as it once again fizzles. He takes a step towards her and swings around to look at you. Instead of fear or panic a resolute and determined expression is plastered on his face, at least, that’s what it looks like. His mouth and mandibles clack with anticipation. As he touches the brim of his hat once for good luck, a gesture that is lost on you. He steels himself for what could very well be his final fight. >Opponent successfully flanked, opponent gains ‘Ready’ status, stun status wears off, movement no longer restricted. The main issue is his sword. You have a combat knife of course, but the reach on it is less than half of his blade, leaving you at a disadvantage, you don’t think he’s injured enough to let you get in close for melee. You’ll either have to rely on your spells and aim, Nina’s potions, something else in the environment to turn the tides, or all three at once. Decisions:1. Action by Korvin:2. Action by Nina:
>>3524396List of spells Korvin knows?
>>3524402Silence, Dispel (creates a mana shield to block spells), Cancel (cancels a spell mid flight), Paralyze, Sleep, Memory Scatter, and several types of Mind Magic. Lastly he has 'knowledge rush' a spell that give him ideas for any situation, however it can backfire and leave him stunned, confused, and dizzy. I didn't make a fully comprehensive list due to the fact I only expected to run this quest for 1-2 threads. So if you have ideas for blue mana spells let me know. Korvin only has access to blue mana.
>>3524415My idea was to have Korvin rush Itachi and keep him in the watery area, since Korvin has Fleet Foot helping him move unimpeded by the water while it'll still slightly impede Itachi. Beetles don't do well in water, right? Maybe Nina could throw a sleep gas potion to make Itachi more susceptible to fucking up his footing and slipping on genuine grade-A super-polished waterpark plastic, while Korvin has Tirelessness to stop him from falling asleep for a while - which, if this plan goes good, won't matter because he'll be out of the sleep gas zone alive by the end of this fight. So once Itachi fucks up his balance on his bug legs and falls down, Korvin should hit him with a paralyze spell. Once he's successfully paralyzed, the sleep gas should be enough to seal the deal. Then all it takes is Korvin to grab his scimitar from his slackening grip and proceed to stab the fuck out of Itachi's head, with a bonus thanks to paralyze plus sleep plus having his head in water and drowning in it. If Nina could stop herself from falling asleep somehow, then she could help to pin Itachi down in the water with her Iron Skin buff while Korvin goes to town.Feasible?
>>3524415we move in but don't get to close, but close enough to shoot him at point blank, that will make HIM come after us and we can put ourfleet foot and tirelessness to use by backpedaling and dodging his attacks while we shoot him, keeping the knife as a side armnina goes from behind while he is focused on us and try a concussion grenade or a very bright light, bugs are sensitive to light or noise I believe
>>3524456I'll go down each point in response 1. rushing Itachi: Itachi still has his blade, but getting him back into the water is doable. However, you'd need to get him in at least two feet into the water before any movement penalties are incurred. Fleet foot gives you better movement and better reflexes only, it doesn't allow you to move over restrictive terrain unimpaired (Your movement is higher on flat terrain but normal on slightly uneven terrain, for instance, while under the effect of the status)2. Sleep Gas Potion: Very Doable, you'd just have to worry about hitting Korvin in the AOE3. Tirelessness is stamina, not falling asleep would be insomnia. Your stamina runs out far slower so you're able to take multiple 'dash' actions, increasing your effective movement range without risking exhaustion. You can still be affected by sleep and weakness status effects. 3. Paralyze spell after tripping up opponent: Very Doable, I have nothing else to add4. Iron Skin: this is a defensive buff, Nina has gained no offensive power5. Drowning your opponent. Not a terrible strategy. Once the other effects like paralyze or sleep have kicked in, the rest should fall into place. The only issue would be Nina, she's been fairly adamant about not killing people. It might impact your relationship with her to kill this man. Overall: The plan comes with some risks but overall it should be doable. You just need some luck/good rolls.
>>3524523Nina has 1 more Flashbang Rune
>>3524523I want to save the last flashbang rune for multiple enemies later on. Help me with the plan? >>3524456
>>3524556sure let's go with it, maybe we can have Nina throw some sort of glue at his feet to hamper his movementalso, I would like to give the guy the chance to surrender before we murderfuck him, it was stated before that Korvin hasn't killed yet
>>3524559Okay yeah but there's still stuff with the plan that needs to be fixed, I meant those>>3524562I want to NOT waste that final flashbang rune. If Nina has a regular flash mixture, then that could work best. Kiting him with Fleet Foot backpedaling and guns is good, but I want to get him to slip and fall too. Once he's exposed and we can disarm him of his weapons, he should be OK to force a surrender from.
>>3524564Let's do that without the flashbang and with a glue or sticky substance in it's place
>>3524564How long can the no killing rule last? Is there anything she can pick up and throw? A chair or table perhaps? Not much but it could distract Itachi for a second
>>3524622It's a waterpark, there's gotta be stuff to throw. She has Iron Skin for increased defenses though, so shouldn't we make use of that?>>3524582Yes that's the best way

>>3524396Nina tossed a round vial filled with a green and white substance at Itachi. The thing arced a little higher than it should’ve for an optimal route but it stayed on target nonetheless. I takes a moment for Itachi to even react, the woman had attacked from a blind spot. >rolled 10 for attack You watch as Itachi pulls back and swats the jar out of the air with his sword, cleaving it in twain and spilling its contents all over his blade. He immediately realizes his mistake and tries to flee towards the collection of shops and food booths that surround the wave pool. His steps slow and his pace ponderous. > opponent rolled 17 for block You watch as the bug makes it about five steps before being nailed in the back of the head with several pieces of beach equipment. Sending him falling to the ground and causing his glued sword to splat against the rough material the fake beach is made out of. Itachi groans in pain and quickly tries to right himself, only to fall over once more, his sword is stuck to the ground. >Nina Rolled 20, Itachi the Righteous Blade incurs one wound and loses a blade, unable to make dual wielding attacksYou rush in to close the distance, training your pistol on the bug all the while. “Give up, you’ve lost.” You say, hoping to convince the bug man that you’d be willing to spare him. “Drop your sword or I’ll shoot.” >rolled 14“You have too much mercy in your heart.” Itachi replies, surprising you. “We’re all killers and thieves, you’ll strike me dead the second I drop my blade. You used trickery to poison this vast source of water! You attacked me first!” “I used several bottles of lightning, actually.” Nina complained. “It probably all arced towards your blades! Sorry.” “Silence!” Itachi bellowed. “I’VE JOURNIED TOO FAR TO DIE TO THE LIKES OF YOU!” You watch as the bug man begins to gather a massive amount of red and white mana. All or nothing it seems. >>3527217You tackle the bugman to the ground, trying desperately to pin his arms against his back. His head slams into the ground, hurting him badly and shattering his concentration, disrupting his spell and leaving him dizzy and disoriented.>Opponent rolls Nat 1, dizzy, Itachi takes one wound. You go in for the kill so to speak, casting a barrage of blue man spells with the sole purpose of invading his mind, you feel a surge of fear and anger as Itachi realizes what has happened but the bug has been rendered physically powerless to stop you. “COWARD, TRICKSTER, OUT OF MY MIND!” Itachi screams, all fury and sound but no substance, the bug is unable to remove you from his mind. You just need to figure out what to do next, Nina will probably watch your body in the meantime. >Rolled 13, invasion successfulYou feel a surge of possibilities before you. You could tear apart the bugman’s mind or try and learn as much as you can, he certainly must have had a reason for all of this, right? You feel a mental wall in front of a batch of very treasured memories as well, the man has set this up to try and prevent you from tampering with them. Decisions:1. Just destroy his mind, he can’t really stop you now, and you won’t be killing him so you won’t be breaking your promise to Nina2. Try to figure out the reason he’s fighting3. >>3530094You dive deeper into the bugman’s mind, trying to piece together his memories. The man has a far stronger will than Ash did, although having better defenses than a grieving woman is not saying much. You watch as ethereal swords emerge from the roiling tremors of the man’s mind, easily dissipated by your magical abilities. You eventually reach some sort of pagoda with odd letters and odder people inside. All sorts of bug people all frozen in time. Except for one, Itachi, younger and smaller, the man seems to be preparing to leave for something, right before dusk based on the sun that’s flickered into view. You watch as the bugman grabs a couple of swords off of a wall, prays in front of a statue of some sort of skull, and then departs from the dwelling, being careful to not be spotted. “Why do you care about this?” A voice asks. You turn around to see Itachi sitting cross legged behind you on a straw mat. His iron hat at his side. “I wish to learn.” You reply. “There is not greater reason.” “Does it really matter? Our destinies are to kill each other. In this game of fools.” The scene shifts once more. Now Itachi is slitting the throat of some guard on some guard tower. Below him several bodies litter the stairwell up to the top. You watch as the final guard’s corpse falls off the tower, splattering the ground below. The other guards appear to be some sort of beetle as well, though their skin has fungi growing out of it. You peer over the top of the tower, only blackness down below.Decisions:1. “I still wish to learn all I can, regardless.” 2. “You can surrender, you know.
