General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.
Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the the PTU system, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves and also may leave you open to an interrupt, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Pokemon and trainers are unique, and may have certain specializations, skills, or other things that the video-game mechanics might not allow. Some examples: That kung fu Bellsprout in the anime, that crystal Onix, or a Roggenrolla that can fly. Herb's perception skills, pokemon knowledge, context clues in general, and other things will hopefully come into play to avoid completely unfair, unforeseeable bullshit, but expect more bullshit from more advanced trainers.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roserade)
Dice (Feraligatr)
Sorbet (Vulpix)
Ghost Pepper (Rotom)

Location: Eelilee Festival grounds, the big contest tent

Recently: Herb and Gobble lost in the final for the amateur contest battle, and started watching Valerie's contest

Poke-hype! I have heeded the call of the summons.

You and Hana adjust your legs a little to make room as the others make it back to their seats. There’s not that much room room, which gives a nice excuse to be really close. Hana is usually a bit more reserved about physical affection in public. Her physical intimacy typically stays limited to less publicly appropriate actions.

This is nice. The show has some great performances, the host is making corny jokes that you, Keira, and Hana especially really enjoy. Belladonna giggles because everyone else is. She’s smart and will usually catch on to what’s going on with the people and pokemon around her, but she’s also very easily influenced by the moods of those around her.

Speaking of which, Gardevoir is looking very amused, sitting on the Hana’s knees. Hana takes a moment to adjust her so she’s more across her lap. Now Hana has to peak around the big flat thing on Gardevoir’s chest, but she looks comfier. Her other hand hasn’t let go of yours, and she leans against you a little harder. This really is nice. Even Gobble, with his spirit down a bit from losing that last battle, is looking pretty engaged. Maybe a little envious, too.

The contestants are subjected to a series of questions about their opinions and personality, and that of their pokemon. Most of the answers are pretty easy to predict and and aren’t very entertaining, but they play well enough with the audience. They reference a few things that make no sense to you, though.

Hey there Gobble! How was your week?
>>
“How would you deal with the kona issue?” The shiny-toothed, well tanned Loanan host says, making his stiff, stylized hair shake with his animated movement.

You keep holding Hana’s hand while leaning over Laki to get within whispering range of Keira. “What’s that?”

“What’s what?” She puzzles for a moment. “Oh! The kona issue. You know. You helped with that.” You’re drawing a blank. “The mainlander types of Ratata? The Kecleon? The other pokemon from outside the region? The whole...thing is called the kona issue.” She keeps having to lean over Laki to be able to whisper quietly.

“What’s Kona mean?” You do your best to maintain your grip on Hana and not to unbalance Gobble or Belladonna.

Laki, getting a little disturbed, just picks up Keira and plops her right on her own lap so you can talk easier. “There.”

Keira is pretty shocked from being so forcefully grabbed, but giggles once she’s in place. Until she remembers what that word means. “It translates best to ‘pest’.”

That makes you feel...

I'll support.
I'd also add, "The Pokemon didn't choose to be displaced to the islands. They are just trying to live." I feel like Herb could relate with the mainland Pokemon a lot in this way.

>>Understanding. You get how locals could see it that way
Shit like this happens all the time. It's completely understandable even if it feels bad to call any pokemon pests.
>>
Well, you suppose you get why that term could be used. If they’re disrupting local pokemon and people, you guess they’d be an undesirable element. But still, that’s a bit harsh. “The pokemon didn’t choose to be displaced on the islands. They’re just trying to live.”

Keira has a guilty look on her face. “I-I don’t know if ‘pest’ is the right word...”

“It is.” Laki says. “But it doesn’t have any value judgement in it. That’s the big difference between mainlanders and Loanans in language. Everything mainlanders say is measured in ‘good’ or ‘bad’ instead of what it just is. A pest isn’t at fault for being a pest, but it’s still a pest.” She takes her eyes off of the show for a half second to give you a quick peck on the cheek and a smile. “Don’t worry about it too much. You’re more of a conquistador than a pest.”

You’re not sure how to react to t-

“It’s Valerie’s turn!” Hana grabs everyone’s attention for a second, looking relieved that they’re focusing on where she’s pointing instead of on her.

Valerie, and her Herdier, Pikipek, and Mudkip, all walk out into the single dim spotlight. She glances back to darkness, where you can barely make out what you assume are helpers. Then she turns to the audience.

“Ahem.” She coughs nervously. “I’ve uh, thought a lot about my routine. It’s been, uh, a really great experience to be a part of this amazing tradition.” The audience reacts well to that. “There’s been so much support, and love and warmth. It’s like a second family.” Again, there’s a decent positive reaction of happy murmurs. And then it dies.

And the silence grows. Valerie sways a little from side to side as she seems to be making a decision.

Even in the dark audience and covered in pokemon, you think your eyes are meeting for a brief second.

>Smile! She’s going to be fine and you’ll show that on your face
>She’s looking for a sign to do something risky. Give her an affirmative nod

You smile. It just sort of springs onto your face and you give it extra energy. She’s going to be fine. And whatever she does, you’ll be supportive of. You struggle internally with if you want to do anything else, but in the end decide the smile is all you need.

Valerie’s quick gaze up in your area breaks. She looks down, comes to some sort of conclusion, then adjusts her microphone. A soft, feminine singing voice emits from the speakers, gently lulling the audience with how quiet it is. Slowly, you begin to make out the words.

It’s a slow, modified version of the song from before. That catchy pop song that she did a little bit of for her opener.

Suddenly big spot lights come down on her pokemon. They add in backup with their voices, dancing, and banging little instruments that are being lit up behind her. Then the lights really start to go crazy as the music picks up. Her outfit explodes off of her, revealing a slightly skimpy, distinctively Loanan maiden outfit.

It’s a heck of a show! But it’s definitely the more commercial version of the choices she had. You had thought she might go with the more personal show she was talking about, but you guess not. Either way, it’s incredibly professional and well put together. A new spotlight turns off with each verse and the intensity and flare keeps growing until she brings it to a spectacle of a finish.

The audience goes wild! She gets by far the biggest reaction with the standing ovation that erupts around you.

You can spot Jacob cooly and rhythmically standing and clapping. It’s odd. He looks relieved rather than anything else.

You’re glad what she chose went over well. She set her sights on the best performance for her audience and it paid off. Your reaction seems to affect Gobble and Belladonna, too.

The rest of the show has some great performances too, but nothing that gets the reaction Valerie got. She’s an instant favorite. And when it comes time for the judges to finally decide a winner, nobody is surprised when she gets first place. Except her, it seems. She tears up, and her and her pokemon gracefully accept the first place position after some encouraging pats on the back and hugs from her fellow contestants. She gives a short speech thanking her pokemon, the support team she has, her father, and the audience. “Loanah!” She shouts. The crowd again goes wild.

“Well, that went well!” Abigail says as you all shuffle out of the stands and towards where Valerie will be.

“Yeah. I guess.” Laki scratches her cheek.

“You don’t sound very excited.”

“Well, I’m glad she won. But I thought she was going to do her own thing. She just pandered to the audience.”

“But you loved it!”

“Well, yeah. I was pandered too.” Laki responds, as if that explains by itself. “And that dress. Wow.”

“Right?” Hana agrees a little too enthusiastically.

You all meet Valerie backstage. She just finishes signing something for a little boy. “My first fan.” She rustles his hair before he runs off.

Ask her if whether she wants to try something more “her” on a smaller scale first? It makes sense if that’s her reasoning, it would be a big change from how she’s been doing things up till now.
>>
“Hey, We were your fans first!” You joke as you approach.

“Guys! I-” Abigail is cut off as Keira wraps around her.

“Congratulations!”

“T-thanks!” She laughs as the small priestess dangles off of her. Valerie isn’t much taller than Keira, but there’s something so spindly and stick-like about Keira’s limbs that make her seem smaller than she is. Valerie pats Keira as she slowly removes herself. “Did you like it?”

“Yeah!”

“It was nostalgic.” Laki compliments. “You couldn’t have picked a more appropriate song.”

“Well, father suggested it. He says the fireworks display tonight will be done to that same tune too.”

“Fireworks!” Keira whispers softly. “Here? On Eelilee?”

“Congratulations.” You step in with a handshake. It morphs into a quick hug from her urging.

“Thanks!”

“So, how are we going to celebrate?”

“Oh, I’m pretty tuckered out.” Valerie shies away.

“We have to do something!” You insist. The girls all vocally agree, except for Keira who watches the fireworks show in her head. The chorus of invitations and arms pulling on her becomes too much, and she relents with a smile.

“Well, alright! But someone else has to choose. I want to see father for a bit first, then I’ll be free.”

You consider your options. You know that Laki wants to go over what’s happening with Keira tonight, so doing some other activity late into the night might put that off. You also know that she’d probably feel more assured if you aren’t pushing too hard to dive into that as soon as possible, so maybe that’s a good thing.

There are a lot of options for celebrating. It’s just about dinner time now. Whatever you choose, you’re certain Keira will want to see the fireworks tonight.

I want to say this but I am absolutely confounded on just what might be pushing it for the group's wallets at the moment and it'd feel weird to have a party and then make the person you're throwing it for pay for the dinner.

“Why don’t we play truth or dare? At the camp!”

The group looks among each other for a moment, then to Valerie.

“Well...okay!” She relents. “Honestly that sounds like fun, just being able to unwind with you guys again. I’ll bring some of props and costumes and stuff.”

“Great! We found a really good spot, too.” Laki says, putting a tight, muscled arm over Valerie’s slender pale shoulder. “It’s a bit of a walk, but it’s private.”

“Oh. Hehe. I thought we’d use my boat, but that works.” Valerie looks just ever slightly scared, but mostly still excited. “Well, don’t wait up for me. I could be a little.”

“How come?”

“Well, I just want to talk quickly with father.” She looks away.

“Alright! I’ll cook up a feast for tonight!” You declare. The mouth watering look on all the faces, people and pokemon alike, is worth it already.

“I’ll get some party supplies.” Hana is suddenly hit with an idea. “But I’ll come back to help chop whatever you need.” She assures you.

“I’ll get some beer and-” Laki comes to a sudden realization herself. “I’ll grab something healthy to drink.”

Keira fidgets in place. “I’ll, umm...” Laki whispers in her ear. “Oh! Alright! I’ll prepare that!”

“Guess that volunteers me for extra kitchen help.” Abigail stretches. “Ah well. Guess I’m due for helping out a bit more.” Wow! Abigail must really be in a good mood!

As everyone starts moving to their tasks, you take a quick moment to chat with Valerie. “Is everything alright?”

“Huh?” She brushes her hair out of her eyes, then looks away.

“You seem a little distracted. Is there something going on with you and your dad?”

She sighs. Her eyes dash over you for a moment and she decides to tell you. “We’re close to mom’s birthday. I was going to sign her lullaby for the contest, but that’s...just too personal for an audience of strangers. And it’s pretty culturally mainlander. I don’t think the people here would have appreciated it the same way. I thought it was better to try to fit in.”

“I think they would have understood what’s in here.” You gently poke her heart.

She seems shocked for a moment, and then softly laughs to herself. “If that were anyone else but you...”

“Sorry?”

“Nevermind.” She shakes her head. “Go on.”

“Well, I just mean that what’s in your heart is universal. That’s how I feel with them.” You gesture towards the direction the girls went. “Sometimes I don’t get all the references, but I know their intent and their hearts. People see the same in you, too.”

She smiles. “That’s sweet. But it’s a lot easier communicating what’s in your heart with stuff people understand. Otherwise you just stick out and confuse everyone.”

“Well, maybe. I know I want to blend in more sometimes.” You both share a moment of understanding before you move on. “Hey, maybe we can do a small little practice concert.”

“Well, that’d be nice. And I wouldn’t mind having you guys as an audience to see if my routine isn’t relatable enough instead of foreign and weird.”

“I don’t think that should be downplayed too much.” You wanted to talk about this a little. “Part of fashion and food is standing out, and doing that means playing up the exotic elements. A lot of the fancier dishes I know are just meals made from scratch where they come from, but super exotic and unique to people who aren’t familiar.”

She thinks. “Well, I don’t know how well that translates to contests, but I’ll think about it. I’ll see you a bit later, okay?”

You nod, and both of you go your separate ways.

You, Abigail, Gobble, and Mace are working on dinner after you picked up whatever groceries you could find while Keira is doing who-knows-what inside your small tent. You have a mish mash of ingredients thanks to the festival and general lack of variety on Eelilee, but you’re able to make it work all the same.

“Keep stirring, Gobble. It’ll stick to the bottom if you don’t.” You instruct. He salutes back and then keeps stirring.

“I don’t get how you love doing this so much.” Abigail says. “My feet are sore, I’m covered in a thin layer of flour, my hands are cramping, I’m surrounded by food I can’t eat yet...cooking sucks! What’s your deal, Goldentop. Are you just a glutton for punishment?”

>Well, maybe a little, now that you really think about it

"Grandpa always said, 'No better way to show people you love them then by feeding them.' I want to do my part to take care of my loved ones and you save a lot of money by cooking!"

“That’s...there are a lot of things that can save money and help the people you love.” She tries her best to be grumpy, but you can tell she’s feeling in an uplifted mood. Maybe grumpy isn’t the best word. She’s more...confrontational. And it doesn’t necessarily come from a bad place. She just likes to challenge people. “Why cooking specifically?”

"Why wouldn’t I love cooking? You get to make something with your hands, see it finished, and see people enjoy it. You get to taste it before everyone else, too! Where do you think the phrase "to taste" comes from? You taste your meal as you make it, and adjust it little by little till it's perfect!" You say as you take a quick test. “Oh, nice job, Gobble. This is done!”

Gobble eagerly takes that dish away and gets to work on the last steps. Abigail watches, like she’s figuring something out about you. “How are you even real? You’re such family man. Maybe Laki isn’t so crazy.”

Laki, Hana, and Valerie all show up just as things are starting to get a little dark. The huge mountain always makes daylight so short in this area. Coming from a large plain, that always throws you off.

“So, uh, how far are we going to take this game tonight?” Hana asks before she’s going to let everyone see the stuff she bought.

Location: a small cliff-side camp a decent walking distance away from the Eelilee Festival grounds

Nobody is the first to answer. You suppose that means you should step up. “Well, I’m good with whatever everyone else wants. We’re all mature people. We can figure things out as we go.”

“Yeah, sure.” Valerie jumps in. “I like that.”

“Sounds like a recipe for fun or drama. I’m in.” Abigail hops off a small rock she’s dangling her legs off of.

“A-are you guys sure?” Hana coughs. “It might get a little weird.”

Laki slaps her on the back. “What’s new about that?”

“They always called me weird!” Keira leaps in with energetic, bouncing enthusiasm.

“That reminds me. I called Polu and Jane, but they’re busy training. Sounded like they’re getting pretty close.” Laki winks.

“No!” Valerie gasps at the gossip. Hana, Keira, and Abigail crowd around.

Laki takes it back a notch. “I’m not saying anything happened. I’m just saying they’re finishing each other’s sentences, and the picture was awful because of the mountain, but their camp looks they’re mixing a lot of stuff. And Jane had this low cut tank top and he didn’t even have a shirt.”

“Polu likes that other girl!” Hana almost shouts, then covers her mouth.

“Wow. And I tell you all my secrets.” Valerie teases the embarrassed Hana. There’s a hint of a tone of actual concern hidden in there too, though. “But she’s right. And Jane doesn’t seem like that kind of girl?”

“Capable of romance?” Abigail asks, taking the implication a little personally.

“Oh! Uh, no! I just mean that I can’t see them together. It was hot out today, and they’ve been training hard together. There’s nothing hinting they’re romantic. Can’t boys and girls just be friends?”

Laki, Hana, and now Keira glance at you for half a second in uncoordinated, staggered turns.

“Well, I’ve been reading and asking a lot of people. For my studies.” Keira steps forward with a lot less confidence, but still bouncing optimism. “People fall in love quickly and unexpectedly, sometimes. And strenuous or life changing moments can really start or end relationships. They’re both facing a lot in their lives.”

“Might not be love.” Abigail looks bored. She puts a finger through a hole she makes with her other hand. “Might just be some old fashioned tutor/student repayment.”

“Omigosh!” Valerie says in a fun shock.

“Maybe Jane might learn to relax.” Laki jokes, to the laughs and guilty laughs of the other girls.

It’s tradition in Loanah to give a gift to your teachers as a thank-you.

Abi is implying/joking that gift is pride, that the relationship is physical but not romantic.

“Well, I’m glad they’re getting along.” You say. “I think they’d look cute together.” The group gives you a funny look. “I mean, the way they dress. They compliment each other. But I don’t know if they’d be ‘right’ in a relationship.” You shrug. That’s what you think, but you could be wrong. What do you know about relationships? You don’t even know for sure what’s going on with you, Keira, and Laki right now.

“Right. So, how do we want to do this?” Laki asks as everyone finishes their delicious meals. “Do we each take a turn so everyone gives everyone else at least one dare, or do we play it where whoever was chosen last asks someone else for a truth or a dare?”

“Who cares! Let’s just play!” Abigail complains as she scoops a tiny desert of more of that fatty meal.

“We need rules first, dingus.” Laki shoots back.

Hana and Valerie are already strategizing and whispering to each other. “We’re friends but we’re not that good of friends!” Valerie puts her foot down on whatever Hana just proposed, which causes her immense embarrassment as she claims she misspoke.

“Yo, big time harem leader. Make the call on the ruleset, will ya?” Abigail pretends to flick some food at you to get your attention.

Your pokemon begin gathering in their own little circle. It’s a little tight, but Laki lets Wailord out in the one area where he could fit. He’s snugly in place, but technically involved.

“Looks like they’re going to play too.” You comment.

“Are we?” Abigail asks impatiently, grabbing one more greedy spoonful. “Hurry up and choose.”

“We’ll let everyone have a turn.” You decide, just like you decide what to eat and where to go. You hadn’t really thought about it until now, but they sure do look to you to make a lot of decisions. You guess that makes sense, since you’ve got a lot of everyone’s trust. It’s nice to feel so trusted. “We’ll go in a pattern.”

“Alright, well, then you’re going first.” Laki says. “We’ll figure out the pattern. So go ahead and ask.” Laki’s been in a slightly strange mood since she hung out with Keira all day. It’s hard to tell what to make of that. She’s holding something back, but you can’t tell what.

She left it open as to who you choose first. You can go clockwise, towards Laki on your left, or counter-clockwise towards Hana on your right. From your experience, this game usually starts out pretty light but can get a bit more daring or intense as it goes on.

“Laki, truth or dare?”

She smirks. Why is she giving that smirk? That scary one she usually only gets when you’re under her, or sometimes when you train in the mornings.

“Dare.” She finally answers.

Welp, this will set the tone for the first part of the night. Everyone seems generally comfortable with going with the flow. What sort of dare will you choose?

>Dare her to put on that maid outfit for the rest of the game. Something a little sexy
>Dare her to dunk her face in Sorbet’s frozen fur for thirty seconds. Something physical but harmless

Hey guys, I thought I’d pitch this again:

You know how Val said there was an “engaged-to-be-engaged” tradition here? I’d like to do that, as well as try to get married before continuing to try for a kid. I think Herb can honestly say that it’s something that he’d like to do to make his parents happy. I think a quick marriage is a good compromise between what Laki wants and a more mainlander idea of how a relationship should develop.
>>
>>3521447
>>Dare her to sing a song. A little embarrassing, but nice light fun
>>
>>3521500
I’m curious about that. Do they have proper engagements? We might as well be at this rate. The only thing that makes me hesitant is a lack of knowledge on how that sort of thing is supposed to play out.
>>
“How about a song?” You ask.

She blinks. “Huh?”

“You never really sing, and I like your voice. I bet you know a lot of songs, too.”

Laki scratches her cheek. “Ah jeez, Soft Hands. I’m not exactly the sea maiden type. I don’t really sing.”

“Oh come off of it. I know you picked up lots of songs from your dad’s friends.” Abigail tells her.

“Oh! Those songs!” Laki laughs. “Yeah. That’s a good idea.” Laki coughs, then, with everyone’s already enraptured attention, begins to belt out a completely foul mouthed, joke filled, rowdy bar song. The party ends up joining in on the chorus once she’s done it twice. But on the last time, it ends with a sudden twist that causes a huge rousing laugh. “Good choice, Soft Hands.” Laki slaps you on the back.”Abigail, Truth or Dare?”

“Truth.” Abigail responds with caution. She’s asked about her bra size as a jab by Laki. Abigail deflects on the question, calling Laki fat, until she’s forced to answer. Valerie jokingly puts her hands on your ears to make it less embarrassing to say.

“I’ll get you for that.” Abigail threatens her annoying friend.

“Do your worst.” Laki taunts her annoyed friend.

But Abigail is going to her left for now and will have to wait. Her current target is Keira. She asks for Keira’s old grab bag of incense, teas, and other mind altering substances, but the others shout it down. Instead, she dares Keira to lick a pokemon. Keira licks the side of Gardevoir’s face, then giggles and runs back.

The pokemon’s game seems to be going well too. They’re mostly just goofing around and daring each other to make a silly gesture or face, or show off a move in the darkness.

The truths and dares go around in a circle with Keira asking Valerie about trains on the maintain, missing the point of the game a little. Then Valerie dares Hana to reverse her legs, which results in a funny walk that Hana is delighted to find everyone relaxed enough to laugh about.

Hana then turns to you. Well, she turns the wrong way first, but she does turn to you right after. “Truth or dare.”

“Truth.” You respond cooly.

“Oh. Umm.” She thinks for a moment. “Dang. Let me think.”

“Laki, can I grab what’s left of your beer while she reboots?” Abigail asks.

“Sure. Get me o-...” Laki sighs. “Drink the rest off.”

“Sweet.” Abigail scurries to Laki’s stuff and back quickly. Her tiny sandals flap in the dark.

“Okay! I got it!” Hana says. “Herb. How big is your pride?”

“You already know that!” Keira laughs.

“Oh yes I do.” Hana expected that response and answers with a smug smile and dancing eyebrows. “Oh ho ho. But some of you don’t.” Hana is unusually assertive right now. She’s usually not trying to embarass you a little like this. That’s more Laki’s style. They’re rubbing off on each other a little. “Come on. Let everyone know.” She encourages you. Her eyes look out for any signs that she’s going too far.

You’re pretty sure everyone here except for Valerie has seen it at some point.

“Don’t embarrass him.” Keira comes to your defense. “It’s not his fault he’s that size. And he doesn’t act like a barbarian.”

“It’s uh...” You quietly mumble the measurement.

The girls all squeal and laugh as they listen. “I didn’t hear! I didn’t hear!” Abigail says.

“Why do you care?” Laki raises an eyebrow.

“Because look at his face!” Abigail points. “Come on. Say it so we can all hear.”

You’re not going to let this bother you. Nope. “In inches, it’s...” You explain again, louder. Then you shrug, hoping that they’ll let it go as the not-big-deal that it is. “So I guess a little bigger than average maybe?”

“Whaaaa...” Hana interjects. “That’s not the right size.”

“Well, we’re talking flaccid, right?”

Valerie spits out her drink, causing an uproar in laughter as Hana keeps insisting she ‘told her so.’

Valerie is still flabbergasted. “Why isn’t there like a...” She puts her fist under her shirt and stretches it against the fabric “like a bulge or something.”

“Well I know how to dress.” You come to your own defense. For some reason the girls think this comment is hilarious. You sit slightly hunched over, feeling a lot of penetrating eyes as they all giggle and laugh. It’s your turn to ask Abigail. “Truth or Dare?”

Abigail has her legs crossed. Her upper leg gently taps the air as she rests her chin on her hand and stares at you. She’s thinking. “You’re too nice to dare anything worth daring. So truth.”

You think for a moment as the sounds of the pokemon playing around roars up for a moment, distracting everyone. Cubone apparently lifted her helmet for a second to give Gobble a kiss on the cheek. You and the girls watch for a short bit until it’s clear their game has moved on and nothing big is happening at the moment any more.

“What do you like to draw?” You ask.

Abigail’s smug smirk suddenly ceases. “What?”

“Your drawings. You know.”

She twitches. “I should have asked for a dare.” She’s egged on to show drawings by the others, but she successfully argues that since it’s a Truth, she just has to answer the question. “I like to draw pokemon and people, lately.” She relents, looking much younger and more shy. “I used to do just landscapes, so my anatomy isn’t great yet.”

“Like, human anatomy?” Valerie asks with actual interest.

“Yeah. Pokemon are varied but they’re naked, so...” Abigail shrugs. “That’s a lot easier.”

“N-need a model?” Hana mumbles.

“Yeah. I guess I could use help learning how to draw feet.” Abigail jokes, getting a few good spirited boos for her meanness. Hana enjoys being the butt of that joke, though, and nobody feels the need to be offended on her behalf. “Come on! I answered. Let’s move the game on, people!”

It goes around again. Laki dares Keira to wear that maid costume she has. It’s of course much too large on Keira. The plunging, loose neckline exposes her skin more freely than if Laki was wearing it and bursting out the top. She laughs at the absurdity, and Laki even seems amused as how that backfired. Keira both doesn’t mind exposing herself and thinks the comparison of her body to Laki’s being highlighted by wearing Laki’s clothes is funny, not threatening. This seems to be a source of great relief to Laki.

“Why’d you change from landscapes?” You ask Abigail while everyone is paying attention to the game.

“Oh. Uh, I don’t know. People and Pokemon don’t seem so ugly when I draw them these days.” She shrugs, then realizes she said something exposing. “But don’t read too much into it, Goldentop. I still can’t draw people well.”

“Well, if you need help, let me know. I’ll help however I can.”

Valerie looks grateful for a second. But her turn comes up and your conversation is cut short. Abigail asks Valerie about the most messed up thing about her dad.

“That’s a weird question.” Hana mumbles.

“Well some of us don’t have our own dad.” Abigail tries to make herself look younger and cuter, appealing to Hana’s guilt and discomfort over such a comment.

“Uh yeah.” Hana says, unimpressed, holding up her hand.

“Oh. Right. Cool! No-dad club.” Abigail moves to give Hana a high five. Hana isn’t entirely sure what to make of it, but she takes the opportunity to bond with Abigail and shrugs before slapping skin.

“Yeah! High five!” Keira joins in but without the ironic dark humor the other two had.

The attention turns back on Valerie. “Uh, well, my dad is like, really obsessed with island culture. He’s supposed to know this stuff for his job, but he’s been collecting all sorts of things and really falling into it. I heard him arguing with some company people about it.”

“So not much attention on you.” Abigail says.

“Well, that’s not entirely true...” Abigail wants to avoid the topic.

Keira dares Hana to dress in your clothes. Keira thinks it’s hilarious to see Hana in boys clothing, but to you she just looks cute.

Valerie’s turn to ask comes up. She looks at you. “Truth or Dare, Herb!’

Location: Your campground, Eelilee, a pretty decent uphill walk from the festival grounds

[A word of warning. I'm very slightly buzzed. I apologize in advance for any extra mistakes this causes.]

You sit for a moment, looking over the group. It’s a tough choice. Who to do an impression of?

Your eyes dart over the group. Who to do an impression of? Well, let’s think about it. Who has the most unique and obvious personality? And who’s least likely to take anything too personally?

Your gaze immediately falls to Keira. She notices you looking at her and gets embarrassed. Then she laughs from her own embarrassment. She glances back, then laughs again, unable to hold your gaze.

Keira. Definitely Keira.

But, what part of her personality do you want to use?

The other girls keep talking, but slowly their attention is drawn towards you.

You blink, trying your hardest to dilate your eyes. You quickly follow up with a hand wave, the same way she does it whenever she offers a little prayer. She varies it up depending on certain circumstances, but it always has this one little base component.

“OH!” Valerie is the loudest, but everyone instantly recognizes it and laughs.

“Oh no!” Keira suddenly turns serious. “Herb! You mustn’t do that on Eelilee!”

“W-what?” You worry. “I’ve seen you do it a million times!”

“I’m a priestess!” She answers, as if that actually answers your question. Oh no! You didn’t mean t-

Wait a second. You saw a few of the contestants at the Contest show do that too! And you’re sure not all of them were clergy. And Keira’s got that odd look on her face, even under her facepaint...

“You’ll have to do a ritual to make up for it!” Keira quickly tells you and the other girls. Hana and Valerie are very confused looking, but Laki and Abigail are sharing strange eye contact with each other and Keira. Keira produces a small paint kit from her bag. “I’ll need to draw special symbols on your face.”

Jokes on you Herb can pull off any accessory! Bring on the ferns, bring on the paints, Wild Boy is coming to make an utter fool out of himself with his lack of dance skills!

You decide to play along. For now. You can be mischievous too! You feign shock and worry. “What sort of symbols?”

“Oh! Um...much too intricate to explain. We have to hurry!”

Abigail and Laki take one of your arms and holds them for some reason as Keira straddles on your lap, wets her brush, and starts painting.

You look at her assistants. “What?” Laki says, trying to hold something in as she watches Abigail slowly form a picture on your face. It’s not done yet, though.

Your pokemon, who are playing their own little game a little ways away, are glancing over as you get attacked by the girls.

Keira is still wearing Laki's maid outfit, which makes her movements awkward. It's way too big for her and her top would be very exposes if not for the darkness of the night and her facing away from the campfire.

You move a little, adjusting as stealthily get your hands in position. Laki and Abigail are too busy trying to watch what Keira is drawing to pay too much attention. “What is it? What are you drawing?” You ask, struggling a little. But what you’re really doing is feeling for that very familiar latch on Laki. You put your fingers on the right spot, put a little pressure on the right spot, and feel that hook come loose. Laki didn’t even feel it yet because your hand is still on her back and keeping the pressure on.

Abigail is...another story. You’re having just a little trouble. It’s got to be here somewhere...

Valerie squints as her and Hana watch. “Wait, is that a-”

“SHH!” Abigail shoots back. They must really think you’re easy to fool.

Abigail and Hana look uncertain, but don’t say anything and watch to see how this plays out.

“Why? What is it?” You ask again, receiving only giggles and comments about not worrying about it. While that’s going on, you decide to take your chances with finding and taking off Abigail’s bra.

What the heck? Why can’t you find anything?

Wait! There’s something! A little pull string! She must have some bathing suit top underneath or something! You very quickly loosen that tiny little string, then get your hands away once you’re able to avoid suspicion.

Keira finishes up with an artistic little dab and a stifled giggle. “There! All done!”

Valerie pulls out one of the mirrors from her bag. You saw more than one in there. Huh.

“Umm, here you go.” She presents it.

Keira drew big glasses and a fuzzy black beard on your face.

Laki adjusts a little, looking like she senses something is off. She’s rotating her shoulder and back muscles in confusion. Abigail looks entirely unaffected so far.

You laugh at the funny painting of glasses and a fuzzy beard. Oh hey, there’s something else here. “Is this writing?”

Abigail giggles as she gets off of you to let everyone see. “Yeah! This means ‘gullible’ and this means ‘but still great!”

“Awww.” Valerie is weirdly touched. “Keira. You’re adorable. Truly.”

Laki is distracted as she leans back to her seat. She definitely feels something is off. She wiggles her torso a little and squeezes in her arms, then her eyes go wide. She glares at you. For a second you think you did something wrong, but the glare turns into a smirk. “Impressive, Soft Hands.”

Abigail projects a cocky laugh as she prances away. “You’re way too easy, Goldentop. You keep letting us walk all ov-” There’s a sudden drop, then rip of her dress. I loosened just enough to be under her feet. Stepping on it light that forces her to run forward and run the rest off of her body in an instant.

Even in the pale campfire light, her pale skin practically shines. You can actually see her cheeks clench as her body freezes up. She’s just wearing the smallest bit of underwear.

There’s an awkward silence for a second before Laki’s laughter erupts. Her one hand tries to absently block your vision and fails miserably because she’s holding her bra up with the other and laughing too hard.

“I’m so sorry!” You run out after her. Then you stop, run to your bag, and run back as she just stands there, totally still.

“Y-you did this?” Hana asks, slapping her own hand away from her pokedex.

“I must have pulled a thread.” You explain, taking out random clothes from your bag. “I’m sorry! I know you only have that and the fancy dress with you. Take whatever you want to wear.”

She very slowly focuses her eyes down towards your bag.

“Her cheeks are red!” Laki wheezes, still fighting her own bra. She looks like she’s also trying to glare a warning to you but just can’t do anything but smile.

“W-why?” Abigail asks, shell-shocked.

“I was trying to undo your bra.” You whisper. Somehow when you say it out loud it feels even worse.

“You stupid dick!” She snatches your bag from you and starts rummaging. She pulls out that one old hoodie you have for some reason, and swims inside of it. “You’re a real piece of work! You...” and idea strikes her as she gets increasingly annoyed at Laki’s laughter. “You better get me new clothes. A whole new outfit!”

“Well I s-”

“Three outfits!” She quickly corrects. “And I’m keeping this!” She insists. “And I’m going to get you back once, and you’ll have to just accept it! You won’t know when or where...but it’s coming!”

“Y-yeah! Of course! Absolutely!” You agree to each of her demands. “And whatever you want for breakfast tomorrow.”

Laki folds her arms. Whatever level of impressed she was before has been very much lowered.

“Yeah!” She adds on. “Wait, just tomorrow? Every day until-”

“Alright. That’s enough.” The words sound like they should have come from Laki, but it was Keira that spoke up. “It was just one dress, and it was an accident. And being naked is not that big a deal.”

“Why don’t you show us your naked face, then?” Abigail challenges her.

Keira becomes flustered and embarrassed. “T-that’s different!”

Abigail, satisfied with the small victory, just rolls her eyes. “Well, whatever. I won’t pick on the poor guy anymore. You’re lucky you’ve got so many people looking out for you. You’d get eaten alive in my world. Come on. Whose turn is it?”

“Hana’s.” Someone says.

Hana asks Laki for her choice, and Laki chooses dare. The tone Laki uses carries a warning to Hana in it about asking anything that would be too much.

Hana smiles as she reaches into a bag and pulls out a watermelon. “I dare you to crush this between your legs.”

The others all burst into laughter at the absurdity.

Laki takes the watermelon. “You’re serious? I don’t know if I can...” But she quickly relents under the encouragement from the others. “Alright, alright.” She places it between her legs, grunts, struggles, and then poor innocent watermelon is explodes all over. The audience cheers. “It’s all over my legs!”

“Where’d you get that idea?” Valerie asks Hana, who just plays with her hair and looks nervous.

It’s your turn. The way you’re doing this makes it so you ask Abigail next. “Truth or dare?”

She smirks. “Either. You choose.”

“Getting a bit cocky...” Laki warns, sounding a little smug herself.

Hana has a sudden bout of inspiration and whispers a dare into your ear. You look her in the eyes after to confirm if she’s serious.

You think for a moment. “I dare you...to...” You let it hang in the air for half a second.

“If you ask me to forgive you I’m going to call you a p-”

“Make out with Laki!” Hana says.

“To lick that juice off of Laki’s legs.” You finish your own sentence. Hana first looks apologetic, then sad her suggestion wasn’t used, then thrilled. You watch the cogs turn in her head.

Mad laughter and squealing erupts from the girls, minus Abigail.

“What the hell?” She whispers to herself. “You’re a complicated guy to try to figure out.”

“Go! Go! Go!” Gets a chant going. She’s thrilled when it takes off with Valerie and Keira.

“You guys are weirdos.”

Laki, in her shorts, opens her leg wide. “You can back out if you want. Nobody will call you a scared little Torchic.”

Abigail grumbles as she kneels in front of Laki. “As if I’d back down from something like this.”

Laki giggles uncontrollably from the sensation. At least, at first. After a minute the atmosphere around what’s happening changes just a little from goofy to...something else. Abigail just got her outer thighs and nothing technically happens, though.

“All done!” Abigail rises up. “Cleanest you’ve ever been.”

“Cleanest thing your tongue ever touched.” Laki retorts.

"Maybe you've got some balls after all." Abigail whispers to you as she waltzes back to her seat, still drowning in your hoodie.

It’s Laki’s turn to ask Valerie.

“Umm...truth.” Valerie says, worrying about a dare.

“What’s the nerdiest thing about you?”

Valerie laughs at the innocent question. “Umm, I don’t know. Hana’s been getting me into some really cool fantasy movies. Does that count?”

“Oh! Your nerdiest thing is me?” Hana mockingly acts offended. She can get pretty emotive when she loosens up. It’s always nice to see her be a little more outgoing and feeling more open around other people.

Abigail then dares Hana to a quick drinking contest using what remains of Laki’s beer. They both down three cans each, but Hana just can’t keep up. Abigail burps incredibly loudly in victory, which Laki compliments without irony. She mumbles something about hoping that’s enough to make Hana forget what she looks like almost naked.

It’s Keira’s turn next, and she turns to you with a big smile. “Truth or dare! And...how easy do you want it?”

“You can’t ask that!” Valerie lodges a complaint. Nobody really seems to care one way or another, though. It’s not like you’re tracking points

“Give me a hard dare.” You ask, feeling inspired by Abigail’s example.

“Really?” Keira cautions. “Realllllly hard?”

“Well...yeah!” You rise to the challenge. “Bring it on!”

“I dare you to...take off your clothes and wear the maid outfit!” She laughs.

“The one you’re wearing?”

Keira nods, then starts trying to shimmy out of the outfit.

“Wait!” Hana interjects. “Keira is just getting out of her dare! She’s got to keep wearing it!”

“There’s room enough for both of them in it if they squeeze.” Valerie snorts at her absurd observation.

Nobody else laughs, though. Now that idea is just floating out there.

Laki just shakes her head, amused at Hana. Like she just can’t manage to get upset. She mutters something about her getting ahead of things before tonight, but they both hush up quickly when they see you’re listening.

Keira looks around, not sure if she should take it off and hand it to you, or work with you to squeeze into it together.

[No one particular character, but I do like certain dynamics. Abigail and Laki have a sort of friendly rivalry that borders on the pretty mean sometimes, but they're just both the types of people that don't mind offending others so it can come off as pretty vicious from the outside. They're becoming really good friends despite appearances.

Valerie is a challenge. A lot has changed in the time she's been away from the group. She's got so much to get accustomed to.

I didn't picture this path in the story but I enjoy it. I sometimes worry I should pick up the pace a bit but it seems like the slower slice of life stuff is what people want so that's fine by me. Conflict is the driver of stories, but quests are sort of a little different and you can play around more and just explore/do other things.]

Did Hex Maniac Quest ever pick up again after turning the tables on that psychic who tried to mug Guri outside a card shop?

I miss that story a lot.

[I think it's exactly what I wish I had typed out. It's also funny you brought up Dice and vispum because that's something I've been trying to find ways to bring up in the story naturally and keep letting good opportunities slip by.

I completely dropped the ball on Cubone and fishing too, which is something I meant to show Hana and Cubone doing together. We'll hopefully get a good chance for that soon.]
