You are Kojo Reyes, mutant Kingpin of Crime.

Today you've argued with yourself, played a few songs for some kids, witnessed the glorious press conference announcing your existence to the world, mastered the advanced magics, played a false victory song and a true victory song, and decided to stake out the Daily Bugle to find a pesky teenager who saw you at the conference.

Despite the complication, this day wasn't one of your best but still a pretty good day overall.

It's not over just yet, though.

Meeting the man, the myth, the legend Ben Urich himself could be fun. That dirty blonde motherfucker published more than one expose on Fisk's less than reputable 'corporate' activities. Devoured fatass wielding the power that he had, however, got those stories swept under the rug easily enough.

Of course, meeting the old-school type journalist face to face after the initial press conference would be suspicious as all fuck. Better to do it sometime after your trial, so you could prevent the man from learning who you are from the rumors than from yourself. Urich, being the reputable man that he is, would help sell your nice guy persona to the public.

You turn to the direction of Queens.

It'd be way easier but a lot less fun to just hop over and track the Spider from there. There's a lot of time on your hands to enjoy yourself before you get to the business care taking. All work and no play makes Kojo a dull boy, after all.

Besides those two options, you could just lay back and chill until the kid shows up.

A hum rumbles in your throat as you pivot over to Staten Island's way.

Might be worth paying your best friend a personal visit just to see how he is in person and to reassure him you're totally going to take care of that Parker kid. Won't be hard for you to track Marcus down: the sweet scent of blood tends to linger longer than others and the streets of Staten Island are probably still flowing with it. You could just port to him but you've never been to Staten Island and don't have a description of the area he's in.

Either and anyway, it's your call.

Even if Parker wrote an article about spotting you or tried to report on your activities he wouldn't get anywhere without evidence. All the kid might have would be descriptions of you at scenes and maybe a testimony from Spider-man, if he isn't him. Spidey himself isn't credible as a source so long as he wears the mask. Besides all that, speculation is all the kid would have.

It's best for you to just sit back and chill until the kid shows up.

You set your hands on the back of your head and fall down on to the cement roof beneath your body.

A sparsely star populated sky hangs far above your head.

Frowning, you furrow your brow at the dull void.

The sky is always the same here in the heavily urbanized boroughs. The Bronx is urbanized too, but it doesn't have nearly as much lights so there are more stars glimmering up there. You've seen the sky without any electric lights nearby once at Green Mountain in Vermont. In that nature preserve, you saw the true beauty of the cosmos.

You would more than gladly snuff every false light in this city to see its beauty once more.

Gritting your teeth, you snarl for a few seconds before loosening up and taking in a deep, relaxing breath.

All the power you want will be yours in due time and you won't need any outside entities to accomplish that.

Hour after hour passes before the sky begins brighten.

You scowl as the iconic hustle and bustle of the city's richest borough fills the air.

Whatever home you end up settling in here is going to be far away from this noisy ass human ant shit.

The sun rises to its highest point and steadily begins to fall once again.

Your nose twitches as the scent of hairy latex clad spider wafts through the air.

Kicking yourself back on to your feet, a grin spreads across your face.

Spider-boy is on his way here from your left and seems to be in too much of a rush to take notice of anything beyond his immediate surroundings judging by how his scent is practically soaring towards the Daily Bugle.

Now is the perfect time to take revenge for your broken back and get a hold of Parker.

A surprise attack on the magnitude of the one he did on you would make a mess of things and probably kill him. While you do want revenge, you also don't want to fuck up your anonymity. Besides that, you can't make a bundle off of Spider-man themed toys if your main attraction's a corpse.

You sit yourself down and watch as the Spider swings by.

Spider-boy lands on the roof of the Daily Bugle and hops down its side into the alley between it and another building.

Raising an eyebrow, you quietly observe the dark urban cavern.

Whoever Spider-boy really is either going to be revealed to you and fill you with a sense of accomplishment or remain unknown, making you feel like a dumbass for waiting around. He could be undressing his well-toned ass or meeting with Parker in that alleyway. You didn't see the kid packing anything back at the conference but he was wearing pretty baggy clothes.

A few seconds pass by until you see a familiar white baggy-clothed boy run out the alley and to the front of the large building's entrance.

You let out a small hum before focusing back on the alley.

Several minutes of no Spidey show pass.

Rising from your rough cement seat, you shift your gaze to the Daily Bugle.

Either Peter Parker is Spider-man or Spidey likes to languish in shitty alleyways like an actual spider.

You could go to the alley and see for yourself if Spider-man is really wallowing in the filth or hide there waiting for Spider-Parker to come back out. One could end with you being crippled again and the other could also end the same way in hindsight. If he does manage to break your spine for the umpteenth time, you can break his own in retaliation after you heal and see how he likes it. The pain might kill him before he inevitably ends up killing his crippled self, though.

As a man who has actually crippled athletic people for not following him, you would know that better than anyone else.

Don't want to rely completely on the third eye. If spideys smell follows Parker's into the Bugle then we also know they're the same.

Everyone has their own unique scent factoring in their age, race, and various other genetic human ingredients. Spider-man's is especially unique in how he actually smells kind of like a spider. It should be easy to distinguish if Parker is Spider-man through that fact alone.

Closing all three of your eyes, you fall down on to your hands and feet and take in the surrounding air through your nose.

The pungent scent of coffee and old paper waft alongside the Spider's scent with all the other surrounding scents.

You open your eyes, push yourself up back on to your feet, and blink your big red-on-black demon kitty pupils.

Parker is definitely Spider-man or hangs around the guy too much to the point his scent somehow comes off his clothes. Knowing your luck, it's the former rather than the latter. He picked a really shitty job if he wanted to conceal his identity: a lot of those shots of Spider-man are taken at an elevated angle way too close to the action for any normal person to take a steady shot.

Raising your hand to your chin, you let out a hum.

His secret identity would explain those baggy clothes of his. The kid is pretty fucking ripped for his age. Maybe if he showed his body off more he'd smell less like a chemical doused child and more like a vibrant virile young man.

A groan escapes your lips as you feel your blood flow change its usual routes.

The Spider's absolutely useless and repugnant to you the way he is now. Maybe in a few years when he's had time to mature and you've gotten to know each other. Fucking around with his life, secret identity, and world view could speed things up a bit, but you shouldn't rush.

Like you, his body is way too developed for his age, but unlike you, he still has a baby face.

You shake your head free of your wandering thoughts.

It's time for you to decide on how you're going to handle this.

It's possible Parker might get the drop on you if you decide to hide in the alley. Better to catch him off guard when he thinks he's returned to his sanctuary only to find you waiting for him. An all out super powered brawl here will attract attention you don't need and can't afford to have.

Jumping at a slanted angle, you flip sideways on to the roof of the building to your former left.

You pivot over to the direction Spider-boy came from and take off into the cityscape.

The Spider's scent is faint in the air but his industrial strength home-brew web is more than strong enough to trace his path here.

Leisurely but steadily, you follow kid spider's path up from 2nd and east 39th to Williamsburg Bridge.

A curious hum rumbles in your throat as you hop across the overhead bridge supports.

Spider-boy is nowhere near as strong as you are but you can tell his acrobatics are on the same level if not better than yours. The chemical web he uses is a pretty amazing tool: using it, he can keep up his momentum and minimize the amount of time it takes to get to his destination. It might be worthwhile to attain some or maybe just conjure up some magical variant of it in your own distinct style. However, you can teleport now so magical flexible chains wouldn't be of much use to you.

Hopping off the last support into Brooklyn, you shrug.

It might be useless for transportation but you could use some stiff magical chains and whips to fuck more people up. Ren could teach you how to fight with them. Might bring up some memories of her sister and the Queen Bitch herself but it's worth the emotional trauma.

Thirty or so minutes of following Spider-Maybe-Parker path from Queens to Brooklyn pass before you find yourself in a cozy small townhouse neighborhood.

You land on the roof of a house opposite of one absolutely reeking of the Spider's scent and what seems to be that of an old woman.

A grin spreads across your face.

This is definitely his home.

Paranoia has never managed to fail you just yet. The place could be booby-trapped with ninja grannies or something. Spider-boy being an agent of the Hand or a hired handy man was a theory or two Kingpin had: fatass may have been part of the organization but they were on the outs with each other.

You close your physical eyes and pour out into the world through your third.

That which is you encompasses your meatbag, the shelter beneath it, and the entire score of shelters around it.

A room on the upper floor of the Spider's Lair tastes, smells, feels, sounds, and looks very much like him and contains numerous synthetic suits in his visage as well as a chemistry set. In the kitchen, an old woman carries a metal pot of freshly baked sweet bread in her mitten hands. An old picture of Parker, an old man, and the old woman rests on a nightstand by what seems to be the old woman's bed.

You open your eyes and blink them at the humble townhouse.

Parker is definitely Spider-boy and it looks a lot like the kid is either an adopted orphan or living with his distant relatives.

A grin spreads across your face.

Now you have the perfect thing to use against him if he ever gets too uppity. Hell, you could use her to get him to go along with whatever you want him to do. It'll teach him playing hero will endanger the people he loves.

You let out a hum.

Although, you still need people like him to handle the super powered dipshits that wreck things for everyone. None of your men are ever going to make enough noise to attract the Spider's attention unless a racketee is rebelling. Maybe if Spider-boy decides to start gunning for your head you'll use his granny against him.

Either and anyway, you know Spidey's identity and a weak point now.

Nothing else for you to do here. Waiting to ambush and surprise Spider-boy will just let him know you know his dirty little red and blue secret. Magical domestic terrorism will no doubt attract Strange's attention. Better to leave now and save this new trump card of yours for later.

Pivoting on your heel, you turn and take off into the Queens cityscape.

You hop from to rooftop to rooftop until you're far away from the Spider's neighborhood.

A wistful sigh escapes your lips as you land on the roof of a towering skyscraper.

There's not much else for you to do now but wait. Showing up at any of your lieutenants' bases will let new recruits now what's really going on. Too many people are already in the know as is but they can be trusted to keep their mouths shut in fear of torture and death.

Spinning over to Brooklyn's direction, a small hum escapes your lips.

Old man Silvio still needs to know the next steps of your plan and set a date for another press conference.

You raise a hand up to your chin.

It would also be good to start getting in touch with those cops you saved. Not right now, of course, but later for the trial you're most definitely going to have. Might be good to have them specifically there to arrest you and safely deliver you into custody rather than some half-assed attempt to merc your fine ass by some punkass boys in blue out of there league, though.

There is no better time like the present to prepare for the future. In fact, there is no other time you can actually prepare for the future in. Everything needs to be set down here and now for it to come up positively later. You haven't gotten this far by just waiting for shit to happen without setting it in motion.

Digging your hand into your phone pocket, you flip out your burner and input Silvio's contact number.

An ever so familiar dull drone dials in your ear three times before breaking.

"Hello, is this who I'm expecting or someone I'm going to have to be concerned of?"

You chuckle from your side of the line.

"Relax, Silvio, it's me; it's always me. How many people do you actually talk to through this number?"

A hum fuzzes through the burner speakers.

"Half a dozen or so people. You're the most important out of all of them but they're doing their own vital work for me. Speaking of vital, did you enjoy the press conference? Sofia said she saw you and that you waved at her."

Smiling, you let out your own hum in confirmation.

"It was fantastic; you did a good job. The Atlas was the perfect monument to perform in front of. Only bad thing is now we can't really use it for the next conference."

Old man grumbles crackle through the block of plastic.

"The audience asked me so many redundant questions. I can understand the suspicion but I do not understand the need to ask me things I will obviously deny and repeat my previous answers to. Hopefully, there won't be as much next time, if you decide not to answer any."

You chuckle to yourself.

While a funny thing to hear, it might actually be good for you to answer some questions. Obviously, you can't exactly delve into detail about certain things about yourself but you can sell them what you want them to believe you are. It'd be easy in comparison to all the other crazy shit you've done.

While it would be good for Silvio himself to present and introduce you to the world, it would also be incredibly suspicious. A number of things could have been said to you and actions coerced by the old crime king. Only Spider Parker has the faintest idea of what's really going on with you two. If you come in hopping, no one but him will suspect you're under Silvio's influence.

"I need you to set another conference in a week. You'll say I contacted you and would make presence known to both you and the public in a specific area. Better for people to think you and I don't really know each other."

Silvio lets out another hum.

"Good thinking. The more you distance yourself from criminal elements, the more you'll appear clean and legitimate. I'll set another press conference at the same time in seven days."

You gaze out at the sprawling urban cityscape of Queens.

"Can you get in touch with officers Jackson Matthews, Abigail Forest, Steven Neville, and Ian Parish?"

The line lays silent for a few moments.

"...I have no idea who those people are but I'll have some of my friends in the ranks get into contact. Are there any instructions you want me to give them, Don?"

You nod your head.

"Have them show up at the press conference or at least patrolling around the area: I can't stay free forever with that coffee shop incident hanging over my head. Don't worry about the trial, I'll handle that business myself. Might have to get you to grease the wheels of justice to push up the trial, though."

A sigh fuzzes through the burner speakers.

"Won't exactly be easy but I'll get it done if it needs to be, Don. Is there anything else I can help you with?"

Looking up at the wide blue sky, you let out a hum.

There's little else but make conversation and you've got nothing better to do right now.

Some small talk never hurt any known or unknown criminal masterminds. It's not like there's anyone tracking this phone call to get a hit on your locations. They would have to know of your existence and the old lion's cell's. As for magic, Silvio has probably lived long enough to have seen some shit. He might already know or casually accept the revelation with no real surprise.

"How has your day been so far?"

A wondering 'eh' crackles through from the other line.

"Fine I suppose: I haven't heard any upsetting news or been made aware of complications in my affairs. I won't know if today will have been a peaceful day until the end of it, however. Considering I shocked the entire city yesterday, I doubt today will end an entirely pleasant day."

You chuckle as you level your gaze back at Queen's cityscape.

If you factor in all the newspapers in New York, Silvio will be drowning in press the moment he leaves whatever area of refuge he's in now.

"Did you know magic is real?"

The line lays silent for a moment.

"...I'm sorry, Don, I think I misheard you say something incredibly ridiculous."

Clucking your tongue, you cross your arms.

"Oh come on! People like me, my mother, and father exist in this world and somehow magic is beyond the realms of possibility?"

A lengthy groan fuzzes through the burner speakers.

"While I admit the existence of mutants and natural born killers such as your father are exceptional, magic is something on an entirely different level of absurdity relating to the very nature of reality itself."

You hum in confirmation.

"That's exactly what magic is."

For the umpteenth time, the line lays silent before being filled with a fuzzy sigh.

"...Can you prove it, Don?"

A grin spreads across your face.

Oh, this is going to be fun.

Raising an eyebrow, you glance at your cell from the corner of your eye.

There's little else for you to for the next seven days beside just taking it easy. Lot of people can't ask for much more than that but you're not a lot of people. It might have been possible back before all this but you've felt your heartbeat again and smelled the blood.

A sigh escapes your lips.

Even when the wait is up, you're going to have to spend some time in a cell before your trial. It'll be brief in comparison to the seven days but that's still more waiting. The press conference will probably be fun enough to hold you over, though.

Marcus can take care of himself but Cuda requires some amount of supervision. The more magic users in your crew, the better. Future tech might help you with Shield and Hydra but it won't be of much use against the resurrecting ninja assassins that are the Hand. Both of you and Marcus can scorch the bodies into ash after you kill those ancient mostly Asian precursor fucks. Other than that, it's fucking magic.

Pivoting to the direction of the ladders, you walk towards the two openings and hop down one.

A guttural cat-like growl fills the air as you your feet touch the cement floor.

You raise your head to see a glimmer steel shooting towards you.

Raising a hand, you catch the blade in-between your fingers before it can pierce into your right eye.

Alex, arm outstretched sitting in Ren's lap and smothering the Japanese girl with her breasts, blinks her big blue eyes at you.

You drop the knife and wave at the girl as the blade clinks against the ground.

Humming a pleased hum, you hop up to the second floor with Alex snuggling against your chest.

The blond, stretching herself out against the soft floor, lets out a yawn.

"It was only a feint: I was going to throw a magic lightning one in-between your eyes after but then I realized it was you." She rolls on to her stomach and rises on all fours. "I can make it up to you, if you want."

A groan escapes the girl's lips.

Nodding, you sit yourself down.

Still a few things you want to do besides teaching Alex more magic before the next big day. Teleportation will take all day or more with the way Marcus and Alex progress so teaching all the advanced magics will probably take all week. It's going to be exhausting explaining whatever you can remember of portal theory and beginner portal conjuring. Once you understand, it's hard to imagine not: it's like realizing a universal truth, just like with the basics.

Alex nods her pretty golden head and leans back as you begin to lecture.

Several hours of theory breakdown, sample portal castings, ping portal pong, and lecturing go by.

You rise from the black asphalt and stretch yourself out under the somewhat starry night sky.

Near the end of your magic tutoring session, you had Alex teleport the two of you to Owl's to avoid the prying baggy eyes of Ren's foot-soldiers. It's best no one but your inner circle knows how magic is casted or what exactly magic is. An infinite resource with infinite possibilities shouldn't be available to everyone, like Alex said.

The blond falls back on to the cold, hard ground and lets out a long drawn out groan.

"Fuuuck you, space-time, you're my bitch now."

Yawning, you sit yourself back down on the black floor.

"And remember who you belong to."

Lynxy minxy giggles as she raises her upper body off the ground.

"I'll remember when you're inside part of me that I can feel you more in."

You roll your eyes.

That will have to wait until you're more comfortable and ready for sex again. You'll probably kill her with the way you are now; it's happened before in the past and was incredibly embarrassing to have learned you could kill people with your dick. Both you and Marcus had the most awkward conversation when you showed up back at the warehouse with blood on the crotch of your pants. Neither of you ever brought it up afterward with good reason.

Nodding, you shoot the girl a curious look.

Wouldn't hurt to have a bite to eat with a person who's likely going to be at your side for a long time. You doubt you'll have much use for her with all the enforcers you've picked up, though. However, she'll be useful to have in case your boys come across an adversary that can't be killed by conventional means or in case someone too well protected makes an enemy of you. Slipping your burner back into your pocket, you hop to the roof of a neighboring and fall back on to the hard tile roof.

A sigh escapes your lips as you gaze up at the somewhat starry sky.

There's nothing left for you to do but teach Alex what she needs to know and wait for the next conference. Hunting down Felon, getting in touch with Sublime, and learning how to defend yourself in law from Nelson & Murdock will have to wait until after.

You take in a fresh breath of the cold night air and lose yourself in the openness of the void.

When the sun rises above your head and blots out the stars, you take out your cell and dial in Phineas' number again.

The old man tells you he's fine, your genius phone is ready, the trash can isn't going to go Skynet, and to take care of yourself before you hang up on him.

A few minutes after, a hole in space-time opens up with a familiar blond girl hopping through it.

You two spend the entire day going over sigils.

Soon as the blonde girl leaves, you're left alone again.

The cycle repeats itself two more times until she knows all she needs to know of the advanced magics.

You spend the last two days before the conference pacing about the rooftops, eating at Sylvia's with all charges billed to Luke Cage, and flipping through the air impatiently for the hours to be up.

As the sun rises again, you kip-up from the ground back on to your feet and grin.

Today's your final day.

You also need to know where it's taking place. Hopefully, it's somewhere open so you can hop in to make it even more epic.

Humming a tune, you flip out your burner and dial in Silvio's number.

The dial drones four times before breaking as a groan fuzzes through the burner speakers.

"It's... to early for whatever it is you, whoever you are, are calling me for."

You cluck your tongue.

"No way in hell is it too early to talk about what I'm calling you for, old man."

A grunt crackles through from the mobster's line.

"I'm sorry, Don, I'm half-asleep right now."

Gazing out into the early morning cityscape, you roll your eyes.

"Should've stayed up all night practicing what you're going to say for today."

The old man grumbles.

"My apologies, Don, but you didn't exactly hand me a script. As far as I know, I'm just introducing you to the audience or informing them that you said you'd come out to meet me at another press conference. I can handle any questions the crowd has before you're arrival."

You let out a small hum and sigh.

"...No, I'm the one who's sorry, Silvio: I've spent the last two days obsessing over this and I just need to get it over with. You did a good job last time, I'm sure you'll do a good job this time. I just need to know where the conference is taking place."

A sigh of Silvio's own fuzzes through the burner speakers.

"I understand, Don, there's a lot of pressure on you to do this and what comes after doesn't sound pleasant at all. The press conference will be hosted at Bryant Park at 10:20AM, plenty of open space and buildings nearby for you to hop in and time to prepare."

Smiling, you chuckle to yourself.

"Perfect place and perfect time, old man. I'll see you there; take care."

You end the call before Silvio can and slip your burner back into your pocket.

Everything is ready.

Two days of waiting for this event were not spent just so you could stay here until said event happened where it's supposed to take place. You can pace around impatiently over there and relax knowing your ascension is inevitable. Of course, grabbing a last cup of coffee before the slammerhouse might cause some difficulties.

You turn to the direction of the southern half of Manhattan and take off into the early morning cityscape.

It takes you five minutes of break-neck hopping to reach the roof of a towering building near Bryant Park.

Digging your feet into the cement rooftop, you peer down at the patch of green in a sea of stone.

The most epic of jumps can be made from here to whatever platform Silvio is going to have set up. You doubt he'd be speaking on the ground where everyone else would be trying to peak over each other's shoulders to see him. A stage would be efficient and pretty striking against the bright green of the grass patch.

Letting out a sigh, you fall back on to the cement roof.

All of that is still about four hours away from now. Not much else for you to do before then other than saying goodbyes, teleportation into places where you can get drinks, or watching the sky, like you do all the goddamn time. Of course, pacing impatiently will probably help hasten things and cement your shoe prints into this rooftop.

You groan.

Four fucking more hours until you can get this all over with, wait for your trial, and finally claim your fortune as a free man.

There is so many things that could go wrong after this but you're going to have to follow through if you really want to make your master plan worth it.

The others will end with a casual goodbye but you'll definitely feel something with Marcus: both of you might have already said goodbye but this time it's for real. No telling how long it'll be when you'll see each other again. Even then, he needs to find someone to train and take the place of his number two before he becomes your COO. Jesús is a good enforcer but not good enough to be a leader in his own right save for heading any sort of assault or assassination team.

You dig your hand into your pocket and flip out your burner once again before dialing princess Alexis Sinclair's number.

The line dials four times before it breaks.

You let out a laugh as your primal rage dissipates.

Hanging up, you dial Cuda's number.

The line rings twice before breaking.

You raise an eyebrow at the rap music playing in the background.

"It's me; I called to say I'm going to be gone for a while and that this is goodbye for now."

A clucking tongue sparks through the gangsta trash song.

"Shit, dog, I'll see you when I sees ya, then."

Humming in confirmation, you lower your eyebrow.

You hang up and input Itsuki's contact number.

There are some clothes of adequate fashion in your dufflebags back in the base that can suit the occasion: nothing special but good-looking enough to fit. Kicking yourseLf back UP to your feet, you conjure a portal in front of you leading to the center of the gear area in your Hunts Point warehouse.

A small hop takes you through the portal and over some of the little side bags.

You snatch up the minotaur-stickered duffel-bags and hop back through the warp in space-time before anyone can notice.

Throwing them on to the cement roof, you hunch over and unzip the carriers before plopping yourself down and going through them thoroughly.

A spare button-up red checkered shirt, fresh boxers, and a pair of black slacks are all that's spread out before you in the end.

Your red and black centered fashion sense is probably the only consistent thing about you other than your ruthlessness and good looks. A shame the ones you wore to Silvio's after offing the fatass were ruined by that triad business. This one's nearly identical enough, though.

Within a few seconds, you slip out of your current worn and Kojo-smelling casual clothes into your not-quite-as worn and Kojo-smelling business casual clothes.

You weave another portal into existence and throw your zipped duffel-bags inside along with your used clothes before walking back through it yourself.

Turning to face the broken mirror, you run your tongue along your perfect teeth and jagged canines while running your hands through your hair, like a makeshift comb.

You, adjusting the cuffs of your button-up shirt, step back out the portal with clean teeth and perfect casually combed hair.

A pleased hum rumbles in your throat as you look up to the sparsely shining sky.

Everyone is going to love the image of you you're going to shape in their dumb little flimsy skulls.

Blinking, a hollow feeling engulfs your chest.

Parker stares at you in silence from behind his mask.

While you could sit here and talk with Parker all day about things, you've got other shit to do. You need to show the world who you are and what you want them to believe you are. The spandex-clad man spins around to look up at you from the building's side.

You blink your big red-on-black demon eyes and shake your head.

He crosses his arms from his odd position.

It takes half an hour for the stage to be fully constructed and the barriers to be set. From your vantage point, you see Silvio walk through the red rope fences with Sophia at his side.

In the following half hour, people with and without cameras start flocking in droves to see the coming historical event until the park is absolutely packed with them.

A faint droning, ear-aching electric whirring sounds off in the distance.

"As I told all of you a week before coming here, the young man known as Kojo Reyes left a message for me to host yet another press conference so he can publicly introduce himself to us all and to dash any misconceptions we may have of him. I too am eager to meet this young mutant as much as you all are right now. Please, be patient with me as I will be with this young man in the coming half hour. I will leave if he doesn't show himself in that time frame."

You grin as you stand yourself back up again.

This way Kojo doesn't have to act much different except being a bit more friendly and open, at odds with his appearance. People questioning it can be hit with that sweet "dude red and black isn't always evil, stop stereotyping" stick. Kojo will carry himself as he always has, not hiding his eyes or anything, but that doesn't mean he can't hum a nice tune that listeners with good taste might recognize.

I'd rather get second opinions and other people posting though. Don't want this to be the only deciding thing. Too important a vote for that.

Acting like someone you're not will probably grow wearisome as time goes on. Being meek in the public eye won't translate well to the business scene, too; neither will acting like a broken doll. Keeping your demon eyes up will intimidate them but also give you a chance to show them not all scary looking mutants are bad guys. It's best you be yourself, albeit friendlier and more open than normal. An air of mystery and beauty would also help your image and contrast really well with your demon-like appearance.

About half-way through, the photographers who showed up to photograph you actually started taking pictures. You're not sure it's because whether the surprise and awe wore off or because the sun started shining on your skin, making it look more luscious than it usually is.

A deep breathe of yours breaks the silence of the now question-less crowd.

The partners walk you down the stairs where Neville and Parish wait with contemplative eyes.

You look out at the crowd of concerned-looking people as your officers haul you away.

The impression you made on everyone here today who hasn't already known you before is damn near perfect. Urich may have thrown a wrench into the works but you were capable of using that to your advantage. Doesn't change the fact you want to flay him alive, though.

A lot of lawyers look down on actual law enforcement officers and the like. It's a competitive kind of thing between them about who is the law and what the actually is. Sometimes they get along bu there's always defense attorneys who try to smear the police's character to get their clients off free.

Closing all three of your eyes, you take in the surrounding air through your nose.

You register the familiar scents one by one before opening your third eye to check for any and all out of place things.

Opening your eyes, you slump against the wall and look up to the lit cell ceiling.

There are few things of importance for you to do in here or be worried about than that woman who knows both your mother and your father.

You stare across the table at the two silent men in suits and resist the urge to laugh at their comical dourness.

They both know something is extremely off about you, but they have no idea just what the fuck is actually going on.

The two men lay silent for a couple of seconds, turn to look at one another, and focus back on your handsome face.

You blink as you realize the two lawyers just did a comedy double-take on you.

It should probably surprise you that the blind man was capable of that but blind men commonly have super senses that allow them to make up for their lack of eye sight.

"...Cage said you could help; don't tell me he played me."

Murdoch clears his throat and rests his hands on the questioning table.

"We understand that the situation is that you were in an engagement with New York law enforcement that resulted in one dead and about a dozen or so injured. Considering there were reports of helicopters there, it's likely that there is recorded evidence of that happening. Depending on the precise circumstances, we can reduce your sentence or, by some miracle, get you off with community service."

You breathe in and sigh.

"Like I said on the phone when we first spoke, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. James' Java got shot up with me in it and the cops shot at me without asking questions when I got out to see what all the commotion was about. I tried to wait for them to let up so I could explain myself but they never did before the SWAT team arrived. That's when I panicked and stampeded through a riot shield wall."

Nelson clears his throat.

"There are also reports of a biker who got caught in the crossfire and ended up with his throat torn out. Was that the police's doing, yours, or someone else's?"

Stiffening your form, you gaze at the fat bastard.

This seems far more like an interrogation than a game plan session.

Placing your hands behind your head, you relax in your seat.

"Then we have to discredit him in court. If we bring him in the stand as a direct witness of the event, we can trick him into spilling that he shot at me without warning." You move a hand under your chin. "Is there another name on the report? A partner or?"

Nelson moves the report so his arm isn't covering any part of it.

"A Liam Braxton."

You snap your chin fingers.

"We get him to turn on his partner to discredit him in the first place or discredit him even further."

Murdoch hums.

"That would help your case greatly but I don't think you can completely avoid prison on the charges laid against you."

A sad smile makes its way on to your face.

"Mitigating factors will probably get me off free. It will never bring back the man I tore away from this world or heal the injuries I've caused but it'll give me a chance to set things right."

The blind man stares in your direction for a few seconds.

"You're awfully concerned for those officers you've harmed but have not a single shred of regret about the biker. The court may find that particularly strange. Fact that you just plotted a court attack plan all on your own without any input is strange to me but that leaves us with less work to do."

You raise an eyebrow at Matthew.

Both of these bleeding hearts just can't keep their personal thoughts to themselves.

If the jury sees Green as responsible for that officer's death as well as the others' injuries and you genuinely remorseful, you'll come out of the courthouse a free man and with a slap on the wrist."

A pleased smile makes its way on to your face.

"I'd prefer no slap but I'm fine with anything that clears my name."

Nelson spares a side-glance at the blind man but doesn't say a word.

They're suspicious and wary of you but still perfectly willing to represent you in court. As long as they do so, they're off your shit list. You might end up fucking with them after this depending on how much shade they throw, though: disrespect is nothing to let go.

Leaning back in your chair, you shoot the man a look.

"Still no excuse for your behavior; I can't help but feel like I'm already on trial in this room against my own representatives. I understand that you're putting yourself in a precarious position defending me but my freedom as well as my reputation is on the line here."

Matthew stares in your general direction for a moment before nodding.

"You're right, we've been stand-offish and antagonistic. Our personal concerns have overwritten our prime directive to do our job without judgment or question. I promise you we will be more indifferent in the future."

A hum rumbles in your throat.

You get the distinct feeling he's lying to you and that he's the real man behind Nelson & Murdock.

Rolling your eyes, you look up at the ceiling for a few seconds and focus back down on the two lawyers.

The two men stare as you stand up and walk out of the room.

Officer Marino leads you back to your cell again, chuckling occasionally at the stares of his fellow officers.

Finally back into your cell, you plop down on the bed and sigh.

There's someone out there that knows your mother and your father while you're stuck in here.

You dig your fingers into your palms.

She'll die like everyone else if she stays long enough around you: everyone does. And, knowing you, it's going to be you who does it. It's just what you do. Killing people is all you've ever really known. All of it came to you naturally when you were a child.

A choked growl escapes your lips.

You'll always be that miserable little puppet.

Pulling your fingers free of your now bloody hands, you look up at the ceiling and sigh.

There's nothing you can do about it now so there's little point in caring. Your past will haunt you until the day you ever cease to exist, it's just how things are. Really, you should have been more surprised you weren't hearing your old self sooner.

You relax into your cell bed and pull the sheets over you.

It's cold in here.

Having kids would be nice. It'd be amazing to actually have a full family. They'd be safe and loved like kids should be but never are. I'll probably break them like having them would break me.

I hate the sun and I've always been drowning. Whenever things start to get better, they get even worse. It's hard for me to really remember times where I was completely happy. The moment I finally started believing life was finally going to be good, it hit me in the face.

I don't try to wallow in my misery and do try to improve my situation but it just gets worse at the absolute worst of times. The best anyone can ever say is suck it up and none are ever as understanding as they say they are. It's easy to have hope and optimism when nothing is fucking you over but impossible when it is.

Don't mean trouble you all with my bullshit but you wanted to give advice.

Happiness comes in treasured moments and is rarely complete.
Sleep, hygiene, and diet are actions that you can affect and even control. Stable and healthy decisions, done routinely, help. I've found that in deeper depression, sticking to an arbitrary schedule helps. You can try to argue against the logic of sleeping, eating, or cleaning yourself to make yourself happier and healthier.
It's much harder to argue with the logic of doing it "because it's 7pm".

That's... really *not* the best anyone can say. There's not really any one specific thing that's universally appropriate, but there's better than that.

Often though, people understand that they *should* understand, which is something.
And there's always "being understanding" which can only ever go as far as life limits will take them, which is seldom far enough to truly help.

When life gets you down, even realism feels like optimism. Because pessimism convinces you that the bad things that have happened are all that will ever happen, and "why would anything nice ever happen?" But that's not real. It's just harder to climb after you've been kicked back down the mountain.

The biggest issue with depression is that it warps your view until you are drowning in the dark, unable to see which way to swim.
But just because you can't see the exit, doesn't mean it's not there. The hard part is to keep trying despite not seeing any progress.
But the waters will recede, your head will get above the surface, and you will get better at swimming, maybe even better enough to handle the next wave.
