Is it always this warm out here? The sun bakes the sand and you with it, until somewhere along the wandering paths you end up more sweat-caked lost soul than human being.

But it was not always thus. In nooks and crannies of old places, buildings stick out of the sand. The bones of old peering, and we the little scavengers among them. Here, enough walls to keep out the wind and the winding paths of strangers meeting for a moment of respite. Strike a fire from the detritus, exchange glances followed by hands followed by words. Drink flow the well croaks dry at last. Should a storm roll in, it may be the last rest to be had for a while.

What are Traits, Secrets, and Talents?
I assume they're the stuff displayed on each of the Paths, but what is what?

Also, what does Chargen mean by 'Add 1 Intent'? Does that mean that we improve a stat of our choice by 1, or does it mean something else?

Traits are special overall changes, such as Boon from Inheritors or implants from a Remade. They're things you can rarely lose.

Secrets are effectively skill ranks - blades, acquisition, investigation, dodge, anything on the left side of the character hexagon with a +

Talents are the special tricks each class gets, out of which you pick 2. So were you a Striker, you would get blades and parry as Secrets, and pick 2 Talents from Have At Thee, Whirlwind, Maim and Grace. You'd also get all the other stuff - stats, a uniform, a fuel system.

And yep, it means improve a stat. We just call stats intents because the govern what you are intending to do.

Oh, Fell words and foul deeds and good bad luck in gambling houses from here to the Reik.

Curse and Misfortune are aligned. Normally you Critfail on doubles outside your range, Misfortune adds a +percent chance to fail. Such that 2 misfortune means 98-100.

Curse is ill fortune and foul luck and cosmic hatred. The Curse are rolled when triggered and each hit generates Misfortune, but enough hits also inflict hexes and curses on their own.

A Hexspeaker can actively use the Curse on someone, through *Feedback or Hexspeaking, to roll an action and trigger those dice to inflict misfortune, spend alacrity for someone else, or cause them to suffer the dread tendrils of misfortune.

If your friend there has fallen ill, you could always soothe over the jinx with a bit of support - perhaps even translate it to another target

Strainbloom. A strange kind of plant and in truth, no plant at all. Reality bends around it, breaking like an wave washing across a sharp outcrop. The Hounds seek things, hound things, hound us, but they leave the Strainblooms alone.

For better or for worse.

We can shelter here, beneath it, for a while, waiting for the reckless wrack-laden wind outside to abate once it is done abrading the stuff the world is made of.

We are safe.

For a while.
