In this story we follow Chaplain Axon and his battle brothers on a distant world where a mysterious festival is taking place in front a deformed statue of the God-Emperor...

+Thought for the day: Heart that was never warm will never grow cold.+
>>
Festival in the middle of the city seems to be picking up pace. It started out with feasting and singing hymns, but it is now turning into a frenzied rave. People are frantically dancing and throwing themselves at each other in a wild imitation of some weird performance.

Around two hundred of them, both men and women, are dressed in white and congregate in the middle of the crowd, where they are suspiciously silent and still.

Reidor, Sergeant leading your marines, taps you on the shoulder.
>They sure look like a sacrifice to me. We have them in our sights. Shall we, Chaplain?

Make sure the cathedral is fully secured and there's no possible infiltration routes. Watch the roof especially in case there's some way for them to get up there. They could have swooping hawks.

I could see lithe shapes jumping from cover to cover on the other side of the square, but they were not approaching.

Most of the people have by now ran away screaming once the battle begun, but some of them ran into the cathedral, there were about three dozen of them cornered by the walls. I guessed that they could make a fine distraction, but only if necessary.

Reidor and his men took up defensive key points to protect the cathedral, I could see Azerion climbing up to take up a sniping position.

Then, I heard from the other side of the plaza, out of the evening mist:
>Leave, mon'keigh. You are not welcome here. Leave this planet and you can still spare your little brother and sisters the horror that you are about to awaken. We will not repeat our offer. Leave your weapons and exit the temple. Now.

>Leave your weapons

However, how about we kill that horror together?
>>
>>3529297
"We are not fools Xenos. You will fall back and we will leave with our weapons in hand. If so much as a single one of your shurikens grazes the armour on our backs this will all start again. If not, you will not see us again.

Conversely, you may see fit to explain beyond vague threats and abstract explanations. If there is horror here that needs to be destroyed, we would see it done."

Thoughts? Y/N?
>>
>>3529312
Looks okay, lacks the traditional insults though.
>>
>>3529318
Agreed. I guess we can go with it.
>>
>>3529312

A reply rang out:
>The evil you seek is with you, underneath the temple. This world is both cursed and blessed, however the Necrontyr have descended here aeons ago and they are light sleepers. Only through carefully thinning the heard of mon'keigh colonists could we keep Necrontyr from the awakening. Possibly that was a mistake. Maybe a full extermination was necessary. You are the skull-wielder. You tower above others. Your warriors shed first blood and claimed four of our number.

Reidor snickered in the vox:
>And half of those were mine...

Eldar continued:
>Under other circumstances none of you would leave alive, but this is greater than us. If you will not leave your weapons, you will leave a hostage.
>>
>>3529345
I like Reidor.
>If you will not leave your weapons, you will leave a hostage.
No.
Why haven't they blown the planet up yet?
>>
>>3529345
"Do not place culpability upon us for your losses, alien.
I can however offer a better solution for all of us. The people of this world are primitive, but they are human. We could have them all removed, taken to other human worlds. You will not have to trouble yourself with extermination and these....Necrontyr will never awaken.

If you fear us leaving the town but not the planet, allow us then to land a shuttle on the roof and we will depart this planet directly. Clearly it is not worth our trouble regardless."
>>
>>3529360
I hope this chaplain has mad charisma because it's going to be fun to convince them all to leave.

The population seemed pretty fanatical towards the imperium.
However I don't mean the entire population coming with us right now, I just meant we can arrange for proper transport ships to come here and take them away, at a later date.

Imperium gets a whole bunch of primitive slave labour, tomb world becomes quiet as a grave. Win-win.

I decided to offer myself as the hostage. Reidor is a good soldier, but a poor hostage. Not only he would butcher the xenos, but also get himself killed in the process. Not ideal, as I still needed to figure out who these Eldar were and why was the planet so special to them.

I left the cathedral and stood in front of them on the square, while Reidor and the squad started retreating through the side door.

I could see Eldar surrounding me in the neighbouring houses, when first screams rang out from the basement of the cathedral. I could barely recognise the voice at this pitch, but I was pretty sure I knew who it was.
>Damned priest...

Meanwhile Eldar in the heat of the moment took the screams for some scheme of ours and completely disregarded clear danger in which we all found ourselves.

>Lay down your weapon, warrior. This is your last warning or we will open fire.

I was in the open, no cover. Even Space Marine armour can only take so much... On the other hand, I was wearing my Rosarius, which could give me an extra few seconds to live before one of the missiles would overload it. I decided to...

Eldar weapons remained silent - seeing my Crozius on the ground calmed their xeno nerves for the moment. However this wasn't going to last for long, I had to press my advantage even in this situation.
>My weapon is on the ground, come talk to me!

For a moment there was silence and then Eldar one by one started appearing from the edges of the plaza. One among them, in a much more colourful armour, stepped forward, facing me and pointing an impressive xenotech weapon straight at my chest. Foolish gesture, that's where the armour is thickest.

>My name is Ylvar, First of the Guardians of the Red Yan Spire. I am leading our war party and you are my prisoner, speak quickly, for your life depends on it. Why are you here and what have you done? Who is screaming?
>>
>>3538295
"Politeness costs nothing Eldar.
As for why we are here. We saw a primitive world inhabited by humans and no indication was forthcoming that we should *not* visit this place.
What have we done? Greeted the locals. They eagerly took us to the basement of the church, before you showed up. The priest is the one screaming. He was in the basement last I saw."

Also say this in Eldar if we know the language. Chapter Master is fluent so it *may* have been disseminated somewhat but I would imagine unlikely.

Suddenly, the whole place erupts into chaos as shouts once again come from the church.

Screaming, dozens of humans that were still hiding in the cathedral, pour out into the plaza. Eldar were too high strung for something like this. Their elegant weapons woke up and sent streaming energy, plasma and rounds straight into the crowd of panicking civilians.

Ancient alien weaponry tore through flesh faster than people could realise what was happening - out of the few dozens within seconds less than a handful remained alive, mostly screaming in agony and pain on the floor of the plaza where just recently festival took place. You could see their blood mixing with flower petals on the ground that were left by the celebration.

As the echoes of the guns firing fall silent, you realise what they were running from - a dark figure emerges from the dark entrance of the church.

>>3538590
Retrieve weapon, guarded stance, face the new threat.
"Control your fire you fools!"

"Reidor, prepare to assault the plaza from behind the church. A new threat has arrived. Wait for my signal."
