Howdy all, and welcome to “A Song of Duty and Spite; House Reynold Quest”. Here we play as Ser Mervyn Reynold, a lowborn son of a bastard hedge knight who, through his skill at arms and a bit of luck, has married into the noble House Reynold of Ember Peak. He currently serves as Lady Elleanor Reynold’s sword shield, and in the murky depths of in-house politics he will attempt to rise high despite coming from such humble origins. These waters are treacherous however. Lady Elleanor has not forgotten her once betrothed, the late Reynard Reyne, and while she attempts to keep control of her house, her husband Lord Titus has the backing of Lord Tywin himself, and has a strong influence over the Reynold Military. The Mad King grows more and more erratic, and there are rumours that the relationship between Lord Tywin and King Aerys grow strained. Will you remain Lady Elleanors right hand, or will you strike out on your own in your pursuit of position and power? Let get stuck in and find out!!

Dramatis Personae:
>Ser Mervyn Reynold, 25, Our MC.
Ser Mervyn grew up the son of a bastard hedge knight who did not know his father and a blacksmiths daughter. After his mother passed at the age of 5, his father began travelling the westerlands to sell his sword to anyone who would hire him. Eventually, the man passed away to a pox when Mervyn was 17, but not before knighting his son. He than took his fathers horse and mule and travelled in the same way. Eventually, he heard of a tourney for a young maiden’s hand, he attended and won handily over many much nobler knights. He now serves the Lady of the House, Elleanor Reynold as her sworn shield.

>Alyssa Reynold, 17, Mervyn’s Wife
Alyssa is a pretty young girl who is currently 6 and a half months pregnant. She is driven and tenacious, if not impatient, and she has been reared to be a player in the game by her mother. While not considered beautiful as her elder sister might be, her red curls and sea green eyes certainly make her comely. She is gifted at weaving through the art of noble intrigue and has a knack for remembering heraldry and house history.

>Lord Titus Reynold, 46
Lord Titus was born Titus Lantell of Lannisport, and grew up to be a knight who swore his sword to the Lannisters. During the Reyne/Tarbeck Rebellion, he was commanded by Tywin Lannister to march with 300 men to confine the Lady Elleanor, then a maiden of 16 years, and prevent House Reynold from aiding the Reynes and Tarbecks in rebellion as a favour to her father, the late Lord Marqus. A relatively oafish man who cares not for the workings of his house, he is not without a degree of cunning and ultimately seeks to usurp his wife as the true head of the house.

>Lady Elleanor Reynold, 36
Lady Elleanor is a woman who remembers. Once betrothed to Ser Reynard Reyne, she endured losing both her father and betrothed in the span of a year at the age of 16, and was subsequently married off to a lowly knight of Lannisport. She endured the dishonour, even providing 6 children to her husband, all in the memory of her father and Reynard. She is the true power in Ember Peak, and seeks to retain control of her house by any means necessary.

{ Allysa }

You opened your eyes and found your hands instinctively placed over top of your stomach. You had awoken to the sensation of your baby kicking inside you, as if it could feel your nerves and was lashing out at your insides to release it’s own frustration. You rolled out of bed and looked back on your sleeping husband, who was snoring softly in the morning light. You rested your hands on your stomach again as you took in his handsome features, and thought to yourself how mind boggling it was that he could sleep so soundly knowing he would face a duel in a few short hours time, and yet there he laid. You had felt helpless in truth. The matter was completely out of your control, and although you knew your husband was a very competent warrior, worry still ate away at you. The night before there had been an altercation with Ser Herman Swyft and your younger brother Tyrus, and Mervyn had jumped in to champion his squires cause, especially seeing as, if what Tyrus said was true, that Ser Herman had been sullying both yours and your husbands honour.

These thoughts raced through your mind as you walked down the hallways to find what passed for a chapel in Ember Peak. A rough hewn, seven sided room with the beginnings of carving of the gods, but the room sat unfinished. When you entered, you found your eldest sister in the room as well, praying silently to the Maiden. You knew it irked her that she remained unwed, especially so now that you yourself were so great with child. She kneeled before the Maidens image and you could hear her repeating a whispered mantra together with hands clasped. You approached a small lectern and pulled forth 3 candles, and proceeded to light them before placing them in front of the visage of the Father, the Mother and the Warrior. You had asked the Warrior to guide Mervyns hands, and the Father to deliver justice to him. But most of all you prayed to the Mother for mercy, for her to spare your husband so that he would get to meet his child that grew within you. After the candles had burned down and you had finished, you had made the sign of the star before backing out of the room, you heard your sister cry out for you to wait, as she hurriedly made the sign herself and exited the room.

“Good Morning Ally” she said kindly, and she engaged you in small talk of the wedding and the squires melee and the like as you strode down the hall. You looked upon her and couldn’t help but feel slightly jealous of her beauty. She had long, bright blonde hair and the two of you shared your mothers beautiful green eyes. She was the very image of a westerosi noblewoman, and she walked with a natural grace and poise that you had always tried to emulate but had always fallen just short of the mark.

She paused for a brief moment, before stopping dead in her tracks and taking you by the hand. “Allysa, I have a favour to ask of you. I know I haven’t approved of your marriage, and I still think Ser Mervyn is a grasping common born man who reaches far above his station, but…I need him right now.” She looks about the hallway to ensure that no servants are about before continuing. “Mother still wishes for me to wed Sebaston Farman. Have you seen him? He’s a homely dullard. Father told me of a proposal from Lord Tyler Lannister, to his heir, Leroy Lannister. Hes handsome, charming, he’s perfect Ally. But Mother seems intent on trying to sabotage it for some reason. So I was wondering, that perhaps you could ask Ser Mervyn that during the melee he could show Mother how inept a man Sebaston Farman is. If he could beat him into submission, perhaps let Ser Leroy shine during the melee and stand out, than perhaps Mother might change her mind. Will you ask him for me? Please.”

I'm sure they'd vote to fuck with the lions, they are a bunch of shitters. But then again, would we know or care about that? Would us saying no be more because we don't want to tell our husband what to do or would it be more sucking up to mother?
>>
>>3534618
All Allysa would know is that her mother doesn't like the Lannisters, and that her father does. If no remains the answer, it'll be framed as telling Joanna to swallow her pride and get someone else to do her dirty work, because she isn't exactly polite to good old Merv.

I'm sure it'll tickle a dark place in our heart that our husband would be more handsome and virile then hers as well.

Yeah not the best way to ask for a favor

>>3534642
Yeah I think I remember saying our sister is useless but pretty. It seems that way to me
>>
She stared at you with hopeful eyes, and you saw the kind expression on her face harden when you refused her. “If you want my husband to help you, maybe you should consider descending from those lofty heights you like to stay in and ask him yourself. He isn’t just some weapon you can just pick up and use whenever it suits you.” She bites back whatever insults she had and instead replies with “Fine then.” She gives you a shallow nod, before picking up her skirts and walking away, her steps angrily echoing off the stone walls. Your sister had always had that air of nobility, and the ego that went with it. She had never approved of your marriage, nor did she particularly care for any of common birth.

You returned to your own chambers and found your husband groggily sitting on the edge of the bed, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. When he lowers his hands and sees you, he smiles broadly and you get a glimpse of his straight white teeth. “G’morning wife” he says pleasantly as he stands and stretches. His physique was impressive, with broad shoulders and a thick core of muscle, and scars marred his skin in numerous places. “Hello Husband” you replied happily in return. He crossed the room to embrace you and after wrapping you in a tight hug, kneeled to kiss your stomach and place a hand on it, feeling for a kick. As if on queue, you both feel a firm kick and Mervyn laughs. “Feisty little fucker you’ve got in there.” You laugh and feel another kick. “Well, the midwife told me it’s a boy, and I think he’ll be just as fierce a warrior as his father.” Mervyn rolls his eyes and shakes his head. “Midwives don’t know what theyre talking about. Boy, girl, it’s all just a coinflip, but I’ve always been lucky I suppose…”

You help him dress into his clothes, and his brow furrows in thought. “Ally, what do you know about the Swyfts?” This takes you aback for a moment. “The Swyfts? Whatever for? Mervyn gives you a vague look and a shrug, gesturing for you to answer. “I’m going to be fighting one today, just curious I suppose. Who is Ser Herman? His father? Does he have any bastards? I guess I just want to know how many people are going to come after me when I defeat this wretch again.”

You had always had a good knack for House History and the like and you searched back through your mind, remembering your previous maesters teachings…

Joanna is stuck up to say the least. Very, VERY haughty. She wouldn't even consider what she said rude, because to her Mervyn should be grateful for the opportunity to serve his betters. She intelligent and will make an exemplary wife for whomever she marries, but she doesn't like the common born folk, and therfor isn't a fan of Mervyn at all

“Well, House Swyft…Their seat is Cornfield, and their words are “Awake, Awake”. Their sigil is a blue rooster on a yellow field. The house was once a full fledged noble house, but were relegated to their knightly status after the Dance of the Dragons. The current Knight of Cornfield is Ser Harys Swyft, and he has 3 children, Dorna, Steffon and Shierle. Their mother passed away giving birth to Shierle unfortunately. Ser Harys has a brother by the name of Addison, who is the steward of Cornfield. Ser Herman is Addisons only son. Or, at least his only true born son.”

You pause and scratched your head, finding your scalp through your thick curly hair as you thought to remember, and you notice your husband look at you with a look in his eye that gives you an off feeling in your stomach.

“Now, I know that Addison did his best to cover up and had his other son hidden away, fostered with the Vikarys, but he had a bastard son on some common born woman. I believe he named him Horston, or Hershel maybe? I can’t remember exactly, but it definitely started with an H. Anyhow, nobody really knows where he disappeared to. He left Castle Vikary two or three years ago. But anyhow, that’s what stands of the family. They’ve fallen significantly in influence over the last 150 years or so, which I think is why Ser Herman wanted my hand so badly. Try and boost them back onto the main stage again and…”

You trail off, eyeing your husband suspiciously. His stare is as empty as the sky and a thousand miles long. Your eyes narrow and you can tell he is hiding something.

I’ll take another 5 d6 for charm this time.

You reach around Mervyns head and scratch him behind the ear. “Something is wrong Mervyn. I know you’re far more intelligent than you let on, but now I need to know what is going on. You’ve been off ever since you’d returned from Hornvale.” He turns his stare from the wall into your eyes, and his stare is reflected at you as he sighs heavily, but he still keeps his silence. You walk around and face him, before taking his hands into your own before beginning.

“Mervyn, I’m your wife, and soon to be the mother of your child. You need to be able to trust me. I swear by the Seven that I’ll never betray your trust. I love you Mervyn, how many wives can say that to their husbands? Now what happened when you were away?”

He gives an askance look to the wall, before returning your stare and beginning. He explains all about the mine, about Ser Hershel Hill, the ruby, how he had nearly died. He tells you about how your mother had sworn him to secrecy, and how she had reacted when he had told her all of the same information. When he’s finished he gives you a half smile which disappears when you don’t return it. You were sitting upright in your chair, deep in thought, and you began to piece some of these events together. You knew your father didn’t like Mervyn, and Ser Herman was a spiteful man. It was certainly more than possible that the two of them had conspired to create some sort of plot to end your husbands life, and based on what Tyrus had said the night before, would probably had you married to Ser Herman within a fortnight. You inform Mervyn of your thoughts, and his face hardens. “We’ll talk about this more after this farce is over” he said, scratching his well kept beard. It was nearly time to begin melee properly, and he asked for your favour which you gladly gave. He escorted you outside and down to the yard where he bid you goodbye as he made his way towards the armoury with your brother in order for him to suit up. “Please don’t lose today Mervyn. And if you do, yield. Yield for me, and our child.” He laughs, mirth showing plainly on his face until all of a sudden it stops, and his face goes hard and the tone of his voice is strangely…empty. “Don’t you worry Ally. The only man who should be worrying for his life is Ser Herman.” He nods to you and turns sharply and Tyrus escorts him after helping you mount your horse so you could ride down towards the village the small folk were now calling Headwaters, escorted by two of the Loyal Reins, Sers Art of the Pendric Hills and Oscar Algood.

The two men rode behind you, and you turned your thoughts to what Mervyn had told you…

--- Allysa Reynolds Cunning Test ---

Roll: 22 vs DC: 15
Result: 2 Degree of Success

It was a murky business, plotting and secrets. But your mind cut through the swill and much like a hot knife through butter, and you focused on facts. Your father disliked that you had married Mervyn, and much preferred Ser Herman as a husband for you. Lord Titus had been fostered alongside Addison Swyft, so that was an easy connection as to why. Hershel Hill had disappeared a few years passed, and with the wealth of a noble house behind him, could easily gather enough men to create a force of bandits in Hornvale. Combining that with how Mervyn had described Ser Terrences insistence in rooting out the bandits, despite Lord Andros saying it was unnecessary only added further suspicion. The last, and perhaps most important piece of the puzzle was the ruby. That tied in the Reynold family, which most likely meant your father.

As for a motive? That part was easy. Mervyn would be out of the picture, your father would gain another loyal sword, Ser Herman would get you and the Swyfts would gain a respectable amount of influence from such a marriage. Of course though you had no solid proof, but there were ways of getting the truth out of people without their knowledge, and tourneys were among the best of them. They provided distraction for intrigue, and men often got their blood going which caused their tongues to loosen.

You continued down the road before eventually coming to the tournament field, and approached the box that had been constructed for your family and you entered through the flap, discovering your mother and father seated in the middle. Joanna was sitting on the left with both Ser Leroy and Ser Sebaston seated besides her. Your younger siblings Elyse and James both sat off to the side, and you saw the Lannisters standing amongst the box, conversing with the Farmans and Rowans…

You walked casually towards your father, and sat down in the seat that was empty next to him. “Allysa! You look lovely today. I hope that your condition isn’t troubling you to much. Your mothers pregnancies all went smoothly.” You politely respond, telling him about how vigorous the child was already, which brings a chuckle from his lips. He looks over to your mother and when he finds her distracted, he turns to you and leans in. “Joanna tells me you refused to ask Ser Mervyn about perhaps helping her and I achieve a marriage with the Lannisters?” He looks over at Leroy and Sebaston and shakes his head. “Why she is so insistent on marrying Joanna to that craven is beyond me.” The conversation carries on, with you defending your position before you spy both your husband and Ser Herman enter the fence where the melee was going to be held, both clad in their respective plate.

Ser Herman’s armour was gilded, with blue inlay on the breastplate in the shape of a rooster. He also had a large collection of feathers coming out of his helm, whilst your husbands armour was plain and unadorned, apart from his painted shield which bears the arms of House Reynold. You saw your favour tied around the haft of Mervyn’s hammer, and your stomach dropped as the moment had finally arrived. Your father stands and announces the duel properly, shouting to the crowd from the stand.

“LORDS AND LADIES OF THE WEST! TODAY WE BEAR WITNESS TO A DUEL OF THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF SKILL, AND AS A MATTER TO DECIDE THE TRUTH OF A MANNER OF HONOUR! MAY I INTRODUCE SER MERVYN REYNOLD OF EMBER PEAK! The noble crowd remains mostly quiet, but the small folk make a considerable cheer for him. “AND MAY I ALSO INTRODUCE SER HERMAN SWYFT OF CORNFIELD!! This brings forth an equal response from the small folk, and a considerably louder cheer from most of the assembled nobles. “AND NOW, WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, KNIGHTS IF YOU ARE BOTH READY, LET THE DUEL…BEGIN!!”

Your father sat back in his seat as the duel commenced. Ser Herman charged in quickly, using his longsword to hack and slash at Mervyn but found only the thick wooden shield your husband bore. You looked to your father, and asked what he made of the whole situation. He scratches his moustache and begins.
>>
“Ser Herman is hotheaded and foolish. And Tyrus hasn’t told a lie his entire life as far as I know, so I’m sure that he was saying some less than savory things. And once he was caught up with Tyrus, his ego wouldn’t let him let it go. So now, we’re here. I know Hermans father well, and the boy is well meaning, just irritated. If Mervyn hadn’t jumped in like the fool he is, this entire thing could have been avoided. But I don’t blame Ser Herman for his frustration. What man wouldn’t be envious of the man who stole such a lovely bride from him?” He gives your hand a slight squeeze at this and the two of you turn your attentions once more back towards the fight.

Mervyn had yet to even launch a single attack. He was only absorbing Ser Hermans blows and moving out of the way. It was mesmerizing to watch, the easy steps of his footwork and his dexterity with his shield was incredible. It nearly took your breath away he made it look so easy. You turned away for a moment to watch your fathers expression and you find it a mix of worry, unease and something you cant quite put your finger on. As you turned back you saw Ser Mervyn finally strike as Ser Herman roared and charged in again. As Herman raised his sword in order to bring down a heavy swing, your husband swung his hammer in powerful swing into Ser Hermans side.

The two break apart again and now Ser Mervyn is walking implacably towards Ser Herman, as steady as a glacier. His hammer is rising and falling like a piston, hammering Ser Herman ruthlessly. You heard comments from all around you. “Lowborn….fighting his betters. Unbelievable.” and “Look at his footwork? No proper knight should fight in such a manner. I’d have him yielding in under a minute.” Naturally of course you heard the ever-present comment of “Bastard” being thrown his way as well. Ser Hermans shield had now fallen to shambles, and you could see that he was beginning to tire, but he showed no signs of fatigue. And all of a sudden it was over. Ser Mervyn ducked under a slash from Ser Herman, and had spun on his heels, twisting his hammer and burying the spike of his Warhammer into Ser Hermans helmet with a mighty clang. And like a felled tree, Ser Herman Swyft’s lifeless body fell to the ground with a clash and a clamour of steel. There had been no opportunity to yield, and even from this distance you could see red painting the spike on your husbands hammer. Even a woman could tell that the blow had been fatal. Viscous. Intentional. You knew your husband had the potential for violence, and he had told you in the most vague ways possible that he had been part of some less than savoury things. But seeing such a viscous manoeuvre was still shocking to you, and yet at the same time it was almost thrilling to watch him fight. Knowing he was so capable was a relieving thought, and spoke well to your child’s chances to be a fearsome fighter should it be a boy.

You looked around the box and found it to be quiet, even as he Ser Hermans body was still falling to the ground. You look to your father and see....

And it's getting late for me here, so I'm going to nod off here but I'll be back tomorrow about 7:30pm Central Standard Time.

Anybody know the penalty for trying to get a household knight killed? Or is there even one? Considering it's a knight of Titus' own house and hes low born to boot.
>>
Can our husband read. I dont know if that's been brought up? And does mother know that our husband is so cold when it comes to murder, or did she just get some new ideas about him.
>>
>>3534864
Im betting its fear actually.

politically speaking it would have been more expedient to agree to our sister's request.

The Lannister match is likely the more prosperous one for the house.

more importantly by far is the idea that Allyssa has some measure of control over Mervyn and is tractable. That would resoundingly make her the most important child outside the direct heir and give her a measure of control of the house politics. As well as providing Titus with options other than "murder him" for dealing with Mervyn.

We may have strengthened Elleanor's plot, but made things more dire for Mervyn. After this display today it is unlikely anyone will try to slay him on combat, and by extension a trial by combat becomes an uncertain thing. That leaves poison and assassination as the most likely means of removing him.

We might be better served to up Awareness than we thought.
>>
>>3535767
Whose the heir of house dead son now. First born and bastard are dead? And yeah I'd prefer athletics but awareness 4 is a good choice
>>
And looking at this now we just single handedly destroyed what ever Swyft alliance of father had. I doubt they want to deal with his house now that his son and bastard son our brother in the dirt. Depending on how many more kids he has his house my be doomed.
>>
>>3535767
You might be on to something. If our dad has tried to kill hubby before, who's to say he wont again. Maybe we should offer to play nice and at least offer to ask Merv if he'll consider helping our sister out?
>>
>>3535909
Nah I feel like we need to stick to our guns, totally tell husband what we've learned and tell him he needs to be more aware.
>>
>>3535936
And then give him a victory blowjob for his preformance today.
>>
>>3535941
Sure that too, mostly the plots though seeing as our big idiot hasn't put any of this together. Really need to tell the wife more shit.
>>
>>3535243
Hmmm. I'm not sure honestly.

>>3535758
In the creation thread it was decided Mervyn could read, so I'm framing it as Allysa taught him. And technically that wasnt murder, it was a duel with live steel. But Elleanor knows how ruthless Merv can be and plans to use it in the future.

>>3535767
That's a fairly reasonable take on the situation. Although technically Elleanors plot hasn't strengthened due to this, there is still a whole whack of behind closed doors negotiating to find out who Joanna marries. As for Titus and poison, well we can cross that road when we come to it. Awareness is a pretty ballin skill to increase. Very useful for our character.

>>3535812
Addison Swyfts line is gone now but he was only a steward anyways, Ser Harys still has 2 daughters and a son, so the Swyfts arnt going anywhere.

I feel like I'm justified in revealling this now, but the plot was only between Lord Titus and Ser Herman. But Titus knows Herman's father rather well.

>>3535909
Its not a terrible idea, but I doubt people are going to change their minds. Alot of Titus/Lannister hate.

--- Allysa’s Awareness Test ---
Roll: 19 against DC: 12
Result: Two Degree of Success

When you looked to your father and saw…relief? Lines faded and the wrinkles in his forehead relaxed. All of the tension in his body seemed to wash away momentarily, if only for a moment before he regained his composure and put on a stoic façade. The rest of the box had gasped, and lady Lannister had nearly feinted from shock. You also spy Gerion and Tygett Lannister as well, and while Gerion wore a grimace of regret, Ser Tygett’s lip was curled in distaste and he hawked a gobbet of spit over the rail of the box as your husband approached the box. As he knelt before your father on bended knee, Lord Titus waved him off as hurriedly as he could, and already you could see two squires running onto the field to remove Ser Hermans body. As Ser Mervyn rose and began to walk away, he removed his helmet to reveal his handsome face and he caught your eye, giving you a smile and a wink. Ser Tygett saw the exchange however and made his way over to you. As he approached you saw that he was tall and powerfully built, and his comely face had turned into a mask of general disdain.

“Your husband is wastrel and an animal My Lady. You might not be able to understand what has happened on that field, but any experienced man can tell you that blow was intentional.” He places his left hand on your shoulder, while his right instinctively reaches for the pommel of his blade which he squeezes firmly if the vein in his hand was any sign. “I dearly hope that he persists through the melee. It would be a damnable shame if I didn’t get to knock that ignorant smile off your husbands face.” You reached up as dainty as any noblewoman should and removed his hand off of your shoulder by lightly pinching his hand between your thumb and forefinger. You smile as pretty as you can muster, as your mother had always taught you to do. “I may only be a young lady, but even if what you would say is true, I think any wife would be thrilled to know that her husband would be willing to kill for her honour.”

Your smile was a weapon, and it disarmed Ser Tygett completely. He leaves off with a simple “Good Day my Lady” and storms on off out of the tent. If you were being honest with yourself, it was shocking to see how unaffected Mervyn had been after killing a man. The way he had smiled at you after as if he’d simply won a coin flip. You knew he had lived a hard life before becoming your husband, but in truth he had never really spoken of the things he had done. Perhaps it was something that could be brought up at a later point. But the melee was being announced, and you needed to decide where you would watch it with...

You exited the box seating and wandered about as you heard a herald shouting before you spied another large box with the golden tree of House Rowan and made your way over. You climbed up the short steps and as you walked inside you were greeted by two armoured guards, who when they see who you are let you pass by without delay. You enter and find the box deocarted lavishly, and see Lord Mathis and Lady Bethany enjoying the spectacle of the melee from cushioned hardwood seats. Eventually Lord Mathis looks over and his eyes widen and he gruffly stands from his seat.

“Well if my eyes don’t deceive me, you must be Allysa. Seven above I’ve not seen you since you were…gods you must have only been two or three years old at the time. You look just like Elleanor. Impossible to mistake my cousins curly locks.” The man smiles broadly and bids you to sit with them and watch the fighting take place….

The melee had begun in full force. Teams of men grouped in sevens clashed and the racket it caused was impressive. You turned to face Mathis and his wife. Mathis himself was broad and strong, and his hair was starting to thin, and greys were starting to speckle his mutton chops. His wife on the other side had more than a few silver streaks in her otherwise flaming orange hair, but was still a regal looking woman. “GO ON MATHEW!!” Mathis shouts exuberantly which brings an eye roll to Bethany’s face and a firm pat on her husbands legs. Mathis coughs into his hand and turns to face you.

“Allysa. I have no idea how I managed to not meet you at the feast. I’ve met the rest of Elleanors brood, but somehow you’ve escaped my eye, an odd thing considering James and yourself look so like your mother.”
You laugh prettily and enquire after your youngest brother.
“Well you’ve seen the boy, he’s all elbows and knees. Though I suppose most boys are at that age. Truth be told he coops himself in Goldengrove’s library most days. If I don’t chase the boy out of that tower you’d never find him in the yard at all. He does well enough once he finally gets there though. Nowhere near as fierce as Tyrus mind you. That boy needs to gain control of his temper.”
He shakes his head with a scowl but before he can continue you inquire about Goldengrove further.

“Perhaps you could tell me more about Goldengrove Lord Mathis. My mother has always spoken wonders about it. If I am being completely honest, I’ve always been a tad jealous of James getting to see such a beautiful piece of Westeros.”
This brings a rough laugh from Mathis, and a polite beaming smile from Lady Bethany.
“Well, in that case, perhaps after your baby is born and your fit to travel, you could visit us there.”
“Do you like flowers Allysa?” Lady Bethany chimes in, to which you clasp your hands together and beam a smile towards her.
“The gardens at Goldengrove are exquisite my dear. Even in winter we manage to keep some of our hardier plants blooming, and come spring they are a cacophony of colour and scents.”
“Do you keep the gardens yourself than my Lady?” you ask.
“No, I’m afraid I rather dislike getting my hands dirty. I do however help maintain the library.” She looks at her husband and seeing him engrossed in the melee whispers to you “I think James is wasted in the yard to be fair. Your brother is a lovely and intelligent boy.”

Mathis jumps from his seat again, cheering loudly and the two of you turn to see what was happening. You saw the now Ser Mathew pummel a man in the colours of House Lydden.
“Well cousin, perhaps you could ask my mother for her blessing. I’m afraid that if I ask, I don’t believe that she will give leave for my husband to accompany me…”
“I don’t know Allysa, your mother seems to be at her wits end at the moment…”

You look at him with your sea foam eyes and pout your lips in a slightly childish manner, and Mathis rowan guffaws brusquely.
“Alright, alright I’ll ask her before I depart from Ember Peak. But I make no promises though.”
You play the girl for a moment and throw your arms around him in a warm hug and thank him.
“Thank you cousin. Thank you.”
“I have to say though, I am a tad hesitant to host a man like your…husband in Goldengrove. We pride chivalry highly in the Reach.”
As he says this you spy your husband lashing out with his hammer at some poor man with a yellow and black shield, and can see your favor fluttering with every swing.
“The man is a damn good fighter though I’ll give him that, and if what Elleanor says is true, loyal. It’s hard enough to find a man with one of those qualities, let alone both, so I can understand why she would keep him around. That duel though…that was poorly done. A soldier like me can see the forest for the trees, and anyone with experience could see that blow was intentional. Although I suppose he had been insulting your honour…bah it’s not for me to say. The gods were watching and they judged him guilty. Tell me Allysa, is your husband a godly man?”

You had to shake your head. “No, I cannot say that he worships often. He believes in them well enough, just doesn’t think theyre watching someone like him.”

“Yes well, lowborn or not, the gods watch down on us all.”

Silence fills the box as the three of you watch the fighting continue on further. Both your husbands team and Ser Mathews had made it through to the next round, and another 6 sets of teams were competing now.

Lord Mathis gestures for you to continue, while Lady Bethany simply clasped her hands, listening intently.
“Imagine for a moment that someone had the audacity to call Lady Bethany a whore, right in the great hall of Goldengrove.”
He looks at you with a raised eye brow and a shocked look at this sudden breech of etiquette, but Lady Bethany sees where you’re going with the conversation an relaxes back into her chair.
“Would you let an insult like that stand? Would you let him get away unscathed?”
“Well certainly not I-“
“Exactly. My husband may not have been born to a great house, and perhaps he doesn’t understand etiquette as he should, but he cares for me deeply, and was fighting for my honour. And if that isn’t virtuous, or chivalric, I cannot say I know what is.”
Lord Mathis looks you up and down and chuckles.
“You really are your mothers daughter aren’t you? I’ll concede your point, and when I get to meet the man I’ll give him an honest chance. That I can promise.”

You smile and together the three of you enjoy the rest of the first day of the melee, as the chaff was cut away and the less competent fighters were weaned out.

{Mervyn}

You were enjoying a moment of respite at a table, with a horn of dark ale quenching your thirst. You had emerged from the first rounds from the melee unscathed. But as your mind had time to wander…questions began popping up. During your duel with Ser Herman you had baited him with the information that Allysa gave you. You had told him that his brother had died like a coward, begging for mercy and he had raged, taken your bait and fallen into your trap. He had lunged to hard and to fast, and fallen victim to a back spinning hammer blow. He exposed himself, and you had punished him. He was a worthless lickspittle, an arrogant cocksure highborn prick and killing him brought you no small manner of satisfaction. The fact that he’d had the nerve to insult your wife only made it all the more satisfying. Truth be told, you were used to most nobles shitting on you. Growing up the son of a hedge knight you had gotten used to it, but you would be damned if you would tolerate a slight to her honour.

He had confirmed in his rage that Hershel Hill was in fact Hermans brother, and now a few pieces of the puzzle were falling into place. The herald was sounding the call for the second round and you put your helmet back on and Tyrus helped to fasten your shield to your arm, although it took longer than it normally did on account his broken wrist. You walked with purpose onto the field, which was now filled with mud and ruts. You looked up across from your opponents, a motley group of men wearing tabards of red and blue, before looking back at your own teams bedecked in green and yellow. Your eyes went to the main box, where you saw Titus and Elleanor looking out at you, but you didn’t see your wife. You rubbed the piece of clothing wrapped around the haft of your hammer for luck, before slamming the visor of your helm shut. The herald dropped his flag to signal the beginning of the second round and you charged ahead with a roar!

You charged towards the enemy line with a with your hammer raised high, and used your shield to bash open your opponents defence. You didn’t recognize the heraldry, but it looked like a bird on green. He uses the opening caused by the use of your shield to send a sword blow towards your chest. The blow thuds into you and you grit your teeth, but your armor does it’s job and you shrug off the minor pain. In return you raise your hammer and bring it down with a thunderous clap to the mans roundel, and the man falls to his knee.

“I yield Ser. I yield!” He shouts throwing his sword into the muck and putting up his hands in surrender. You hear a growl of irritation come forth from your own throat as you turn and pan the arena. There were perhaps 20 men in this round of the fighting, with the majority of them centered around the middle in a large brawl, but you noticed a few men lingering on the borders, waiting. Perhaps they were cowards, perhaps they were smart, perhaps they simply knew their limitations. Either way you were at a cross roads as to what you were going to do…

Unknown Knight Defeated

Either way, you decided that they were cowards. You may have told Tyrus to use the very same tactic, but a squires melee was different. The age differences alone could make such an event drastically unfair. But for grown men and knights all? Nothing but cowardice. You jogged away from the main mass of men and found your first target. A tall looking man clad in green and brown, you charged him yelling nonsense and you found his eyes through his open-faced helm and they went wide with shock. He uses the reach of his spear to his advantage once he regains his senses, but it was to little to late. You used your shield to knock the point inside and once you were inside the mans guard it was over. Your hammer strikes against his shield and the wood cracks, then it strikes to the mans breastplate and it gives way and brings forth a cry of pain. Lastly you spin your hammer round and hook the spiked end behind the mans knee and trip him up, causing him to fall on his back. You stand over the man threateningly and raise your hammer which brings forth a hysterical “MERCY SER!”. You had to shake your head at that. There was no dishonour in yielding, but do so like a frightened girl? Pathetic.

You spy the other straggler who had witnessed your prowess and made his way to the other side of the melee, trying to put the other men in between you and yourself. As you stalked him further and got closer you recognize that there was a ship cresting the top of his great helm, and his underneath his tabard you saw his colours were blue, yellow and red, and he was edging away from you as quickly as he could manage without making it look like he was running.

--- Continue after the straggler or join the melee proper? ---

-Combat Round 3-
Ser Mervyn: 35 against Combat Defence: 10
Ridiculous Degrees of Success
16 damage – 10 Armour Rating = 6 Damage
Unknown Knight Health: -2

Sebaston Farman Defeated

You stalked him, and eventually you had pursued him into a corner of the fence where he had nowhere to go. He looked around, head swivelling looking for an exit but he doesn’t find one. You approach slowly at a walking speed, and you swing for all you’re worth. To your surprise, the man doesn’t attempt to parry your blow, but falls to his knees. You miss what could have been an absolutely fatal blow and instead wrench open the top of the mans helmet as the claw on your hammer cracks the steel and sends the helm that crested the top of it flying into the crowd. Smallfolk start bickering over the bauble, and as you look down at the man. He was yielding, begging for mercy, and you saw that he had taken a fairly serious cut from an earlier entry in the melee, and now there was blood pouring down from the top of his head into his eyes. Blood and tears streamed from his face as he pleaded with you, saying how he didn’t wish to die. Instead you plant a boot in his face and knock the man out cold and 2 squires run out to drag the unconscious knight off of the field. As you turn, you find yourself staring down a man clad in resplendent armour, bearing the gold lion of Lannister on a field of blue. He hefted a greatsword off of his shoulder, and now you found yourself trapped in the same corner…

Alright well with the charge that was enough to defeat this guy in one round, but he hit you guys like a freight train in return, dealing 8 damage after everything was said in done.

So we have a couple options.

1. We can take 1 injury, giving us a -1 to our future rolls and take 4 damage

2.We can take 2 injuries, causing us to take -2 to our future rolls and take no damage.

3. We can take a wound, causing us to roll 1 less die on our fighting tests, but no damage.

4. Roll with having 4 health left, and deal with the last few remaining people in the round.

If you guys choose to take an injury or wound, there will be a roll at the end of the round to see if it keeps affecting you in the next and final round. If you guys don't, your health will go back up for the final round.

soooo...choices?

As an aside, because this combat isn't lethal for the most part, I'm not really letting anyone else take wounds or injuries just to speed things along. The next round though, because there is so much wealth on the line, will be full rules and in depth.

Well there weren't any criticals rolled, but I mean we could. There would be some repercussions, and Mervyns reputation is going to go down the toilet amongst alot of noble houses. Don't forget we already killed someone in this tournament, which is at the wedding of our brother in law no less.

Some other things to consider. Mervyn doesn't really share Elleanors hatred for Lannisters, mostly because he is kept in the dark for most things.

Anyhow, we can put it to a vote. Unfortunately I've got to head off now. Just got a call from work and I need to get going here. I'll try and make it back here tonight, but I'm not going to promise anything.

Some years after Lord Tywin Lannister defeated the Reyne-Tarbeck rebellion, Lord Farman of Faircastle grew truculent. Tywin sent him a musician as an envoy playing "The Rains of Castamere", and that was enough to make Lord Farman reconsider his position.

It all makes sense now. No wonder Elleanor wants to ally with them, she's tying to put together a coalition of those disenfranchised with the Lannisters. Look at you Elle.

Mutual respect, and even friendship, might be possible if you do the right favors for him. He is the heir to Lannisport after all, and could potentially be your brother in law.

>>3537923
It depends on your definition of a good idea. They are a VERY powerful family, and Tygett is a very formidable jouster. And just like injuries happen in melees, they also happen in jousts.

>>3538087
>>3538090
That's Tygett, not Leroy. But fair assessment. Odds are Tygett will never like Merv.

>>3538386
Well she is definitely up to something, but I mean if you guys want to delve into Elleanors plot further, you can always ask your wife about various houses and their histories. Fair warning though, that kind of knowledge is dangerous, and going down that road might make some things mildly to horrifically scary. Like I said earlier, actions have consequences, and playing that kind of game gets you power, or gets you killed.

I don't understand the logic behind picking option 3.

An injury is -1 to test results. That is fairly minor. Losing a die (d6) in comparison is -3.5 average. What kind of reasoning would make one choose 3?

Fucking 4chan ate my post. So

We roll 5D (fighting) + 1D (expertise) + 2B (specialty). That's 8 total. And a +1 total for quality.

Take >>3537557 as example. We charged and rolled 7d6. The highest was 25. Dropping two lowest it becomes 22. Add +1 total and 23 end result in the post makes sense.

>>3539629
>It would be interesting if we somehow managed to befriend Leroy. Tygett's reaction would be priceless. It would also complicate things a whole lot and make for a good bit of drama.
I would like it too but with no meta shit involved. Not sure if cultivating some grudging respect between them is possible though due to a difference in status and his attitude towards Mervyn in general. Lets see how he reacts to our inevitable victory later!
>>
>>3539660
>no meta shit involved
True, true.
I try to support whatever happens organically.
>>
>>3539629

I'm very late to the party as usual, but I like this idea. It seems to me that if Sebaston qnd Leroy are duking it out for our sister in law, if we help one of them, odds are they are bound to at least be neutral to us. And if Leroy is the heir of Lannisport, maybe we can weasel our way into even becoming the captain of the lannisport guard? That directly lines up with our goal of power?
>>
>>3539930

>>
>>3540057

>>
>>3540060
Except Mervyn does feel a very strong sense of loyalty to her. She’s the one who made it possible for him to become a household knight, something more than a bastard wandering hedge knight. He allowed him to marry her daughter. Plus we voted for him to be a very loyal kinda guy when we created him. Unless his wife decides to go team Lannister, I doubt Mervyn is going to.

Like you yourself have said breezy, Mervyn has no motivation towards stomping any Lannisters. He met his fair share of haughty highborn cunts, doesn't mean he should break every one of them. Merciless, not cruel.
>>
>>3540067
I thought when we created Mervyn we decided we were loyal to wifey, and Lady E by proxy as long as she kept fulfilling our desire for power. If a better offer comes out way, and the wife is okay with it we should take it.
>>

It would be an interesting turn of events for Mervyn to say the least. But that will require you doing a few favors for Leroy, and by proxy, Titus, so yeah. Not sure how anyone feels about that.

>>3539630

>>3539660

>>3539930

>>3540057
Oh. Unbelievably so.

>>3540060
Don't we? We do owe her alot, and loyalty is our virtue after all.

>>3540067
I actually quite like this take on it. Mervyn does really have every reason to be loyal to Elleanor. Allysa also owes her mother for her marriage, but she is ambitious as well, and I haven't decided yet how she feels about Lannisters. Merv and Ally really are a power couple when it comes the drive for power and influence.

>>3540072
You can reroll your own dice, but I'm rolling for your opponents behind the scenes, and he got in a pretty solid blow, and he actually struck first due to the reach of his weapon.

>>3540092
Well said. There is a fine line between being malicious and being merciless.

>>3540255
I do remember we decided to be ultimately loyal to ourselves and Allysa. but I wouldn't say his loyalty to Elleanor is "by proxy". But in a life or death situation, I can't see Merv choosing Elleanor.

>Honestly it wasn't the smartest choice. To be honest I think when I resume the thread I'll do that vote again with a clearer explanation.
In case you do run that vote again when I'm not here, putting in one vote for
>4. Roll with having 4 health left, and deal with the last few remaining people in the round.

A wound is a pretty serious penalty, especially if it lasts until the next rounds of the melee, so that's a definite no.
2 injuries is also a pretty big hindrance and agaiin could last into the latter rounds of the melee, so I'm against that.
1 injury and 4 hp is okay. Given our previous performance I reckon we can win pretty handily even with a -1 penalty. We're more likely to recover from one injury than 2 and thus be fine in the next round of the melee.
8 hp damage is a lot. We'd only have have 4 hp remaining and that's too close to 0 for my liking BUT we can just elect to take injuries later. I don't see any advantage to taking the injuries now. The -1 from a single injury isn't much but it's still a penalty. If we take the damage just as straight hp we're still at 100% combat effectiveness and we can always take an injury or 2 later in the round if need to ... at the very least it's a couple more turns without a -1, at best if means no injuries now and no injuries carrying through to the final.

Lannister Knight Defeated

You charged at him. As quickly as you could manage which catches the man off guard. He swings his greatsword in a wide arc and it catches your shield and you can feel the tremendous force behind the blow. So much in fact that the sword bounces up off the shield before connecting against your upper arm just below your shoulder. You roar out in pain as you feel the force of the blow transfer through your torso and retaliate by swinging your hammer in a wide arc and catch him on his forearm causing his one hand to lose his grip on his sword, and you quickly follow up by bringing your shield around in an overhand blow to know the sword out of the Lannisport Lannisters hands. To his credit, the man doesn’t yield, instead going for his belt and the short sword he wore there. As he attempts to bring the blade forth your hammer finds purchase and beats the man down to the ground where he finally puts out a hand in yielding. Shaking off the pain and rolling your arm out, you turn and face the melee again before…

Before you spy Ser Lionel Ruttiger, one of Ser Titus’ men, attempt to bring you low with a nasty blow from a morning star, hoping to catch you off guard and from behind. The clinking of the chain is enough of a tell for your experienced ears and you duck and spin away from the attack, causing him to unbalance himself, such was the amount of force he put behind the blow and you steady yourself. His black and orange armour is scuffed and dented, and if you were honest you were surprised he had made it this far in the event. The man had never struck you as much of a fighter, but here the two of you stood across from each other.

Ser Lionel Ruttiger Defeated

You squared off and as the two of you circle each other, both waiting for each other to make the first move, he learns why you were the captain of the Loyal Reins. He swings his morning star and you bring your shield up to block it with ample time and you feel the thunk go through you. Gritting your teeth, you switch up your stance and aim a kick out at the mans knee. It buckles to the sound of metal striking metal, and your hammer rises and falls, time and time again until the wood is nothing but splinters in an iron circle. Raising your hammer one last time you hear the man yield and you leave off of him, watching him stumble off to the side of the arena before being helped by his squire, who as it happened was his son and nearly a splitting image of the man.

As you faced the remainder of your contestants for this round, you find yourself staring down three men, all four of you glancing at each other and deciding who would fight who…

---Who do you choose to fight?---

>A knight wearing a chequy green and yellow lion, wielding sword and shield
>A knight with a simple black bend on red field, wielding sword and shield
>A knight of House Rowan, wielding a pole-axe

--- How do you fight them? ---

Yep house Osgrey. Noble knightly house.
>>
A knight wearing a chequy green and yellow lion, wielding sword and shield it is, with a proper stand off as well.

>>3545816
House Rowan is here, so it stands to reason that a few of their bannermen might come as well.
>>
You and a knight who’s armour bears chequy lions on their pauldrons face off, whilst the man with the simple heraldry squares off with the man of House Rowan. The man has a practiced hand at individual combat, and his footsteps are practiced and he moves with purpose, although a slight limp plagues him as he walks. You spy a crumpled piece of armour in his right leg, the plate had been damaged by what had obviously been a fearsome blow. The cheer of the crowd roars, and you hear a herald announce something, but the noise is muffled by your helmet and your heart pounding in your ears. You breath deeply, and look down to your wifes favour tied around the haft of your hammer, and as you look to a box decorated in white, with a gold tree, and although you couldn’t see that far due to your eye sight, you do spot a flash bright red hair. You flex your grip and get into a fighting stance as your opponent does the same…

As closely as you had observed your opponent, he had in turn observed you, and quickly swung a blow with his finely forged longsword into your injured arm and the weakened metal gives way slightly, and you soon feel the sharp sensation of a cut and the warmth of blood spreading inside of your armour. The ring of steel fills the air and a hiss of pain comes forth from you, alongside a grunt of exertion from the knight. You blink in a moment that feels like a life time, and you react as quickly as a viper, using your hammer to attack the mans knee and the crunch of metal gives way to your attack. The vibration of the attack rides up through your arm nearly causing you to drop your hammer, but you steel your nerves and tighten up your grip on both your shield and weapon. Hoisting your shield higher in order to protect your shoulder, you breathe heavily catching your breath for a moment before the dance of steel begins again….

8d6 please

I realize I didn’t have you guys rolling the plus 1 for a superior weapon, but seeing as you guys got 4 degrees of success it’s irrelevant. We’re now at just the dice for the -1 due to the injury

Fatigue was setting in, even for a man such as yourself in your prime. Your breath was ragged, and you could taste iron with every breath. Your shield arm is ablaze with a fiery pain, and you could feel the slippery viscosity of blood flowing inside your armour, while your right arm and legs are screaming from fatigue. You spit inside of your helm, craving a breath of fresh air, but you persevere onwards.

You strike simultaneously, as mirrored images of each other and both blows connect, but yours proves the truer. Whilst his sword connects solidly into the side of your thigh in a clever blow which was sure to leave a dark black bruise, and in return your hammer smashes through his upper vambrace and bringing a cry of pain and causing the man to drop his shield. You quickly capitalize on the turn of events and bring your hammer into the mans side causing the wind to leave his lungs and he puts his hand out in submission as he had no breathe to surrender.

You take a moment to gather yourself as the two knights across from you continue their own duel, and the Rowan knight trips up his man using the haft of his poleaxe causing the man to yield before he would have had his head cut off from a blow. He in turn faces you and leans heavily on his weapon, and the two of you finally begin to walk towards each other after the crowd begins to cheer loudly.

-Combat Round 8-
Ser Mervyn: 31 against Combat Defence: 7

Rowan Knight Defeated

Rowan Knight: 22 against Combat Defence: 8

Summoning up a fierce flurry of blows, the Rowan knight brings his poleaxe down first down onto your shield and the effect was positively thunderous. It reverberated through your shield and down through your entire body. And before you can manage to react, he takes his weapon in a wide sweeping attack and swung it into your side. It was now your turn for the breath to leave your lungs, and it takes all of your will not to fall to the ground wheezing. You back away slightly, and at the last second the man swings again, and you leap back out of the way, his blade slicing through the last shred of your tabard. You stamp your foot on top of the blade of the weapon and bring your hammer smashing into the half of his weapon splintering it into kindling. You see the look of mild surprise through his wide eye slits in his eyes, and bring your hammer hard and fast into the mans helm and which sends the man flying into the mud, limp and unconscious.

The crowd roars in applause, chanting the name “Reynold” over and over again. Tyrus rushes over to you, clad in the livery of his house, and your put most of your weight onto the boy as he escorts you over to a tent.

“Ser you fought like the warrior himself” the boy begins excitedly, forgetting his own broken wrist in the process as he begins to help you out of your armour. Maester Aethan soon enters the tent and begins fussing over your wounds, muttering about the various injuries.

“I’m doubtful that you’ll be unaffected by these tomorrow for the final Ser. The contusions, and the bruising…they are severe.”

Before you can reply to the maesters news, Tyrus pipes up about how you were among the toughest men in the Westerlands, and that you’d be fine come the morrow. The crowd cheered as the other half of the melee continued and looked to decide your opponent. After a full day of combat, nearly 150 men had entered the melee, and tomorrow, yourself and one other man would face each other in single combat in the search of 200 gold dragons, prestige and honour.

>>3546092
You gotta tell us how the mood and reaction to our win is among the family and audience. How is Alyssa holding up ?
>>
Oh shit, was not expecting another final competitor. A welcomed twist, really enjoy the difficulty meter here. Yeah Merv is a machine but he really pushed himself there.

Love your combat scenes, Joe, very well written and brutal. Here's to hoping we get that win and get those archers some kitted and loyal to our boy.

I wonder who would win between Merv and Landon Grallner.
>>
>>3546097
Tyrus is obviously excited. Little fucker looks up to Merv alot. Allysa is doing well, she's very proud and she is currently working on buttering up Mathis and Bethany for when they meet you.

Tygon and Andrea are enjoying watching a member of their house dominate the melee, while James and Elyse are slightly disappointed that their respective foster houses have all but been eliminated.

Elleanor obviously enjoyed watching you put the beat down to a Lannister, and is positively (secretly) giddy you killed Ser Herman.

Titus...is having mixed reactions. The wheels in his head are turning
>>
>>3546092

Joanna, well she was thrilled you knocked out Sebaston Farman, but that soured when you KO'd Ser Leroy immediately afterwards.

>>3546104
Thank you kindly! I don't want to make anything to easy, and I think a one on one duel to finish the melee off, with two PC level characters is going to be ballin. Merv is going to get alot of EXP from this, regardless of if he wins or not, and hopefully some prestige and get noticed by some noblemen or an heir or two.

>spoiler
At the moment, I'm thinking Ser Landon. He is just so tanky it's absurd. And Mervyn is actually a bit less autistically focused, and is slightly more well rounded. I think Merv would take the win during a joust though.

>>3546127
Cheers!! I have to say i really enjoy writing this kind of stuff.

>>
So armor for us and new bows for the archers, with any change left over going to spoil Alyssa. Does that sound good?
>>
>>3546227
we have full plate armor. that's as good as it gets unless we manage to find a set of Valyrian Steel full plate

Maester Aethan had just finished stitching up the wound on your shoulder with a needle and fine twine. The pain in your arm still caused you to grit your teeth, but the bruises you could work through. Once the adrenaline came during the final you knew that the pain from them would cease. As he was putting away the tools of his trade, your wife walks into the tent, beaming with joy.

“Well fought husband! You must be blessed by the warrior in order for you to fight so well. Even Lord Mathis commended you on your skill.”

This brings a raised eye brow from you as she continues on, rambling about your ability and her cousin once removed, the Lord of Goldengrove. She sits down on your lap and hands her arms around your broad shoulders, resting a head in the crook of your neck, gossiping as women do about things that they hold dear.

“Lord Mathis and Lady Bethany have even offered us an invitation to visit Goldengrove once the baby is born. Can you imagine it Merv? The two of us travelling the Reach? All chivalry and flowers and…” she sighs heavily into you before continuing.

“Lord Mathis requested your presence actually. As soon as you were able in fact. He and his wife seem quite eager to meet you.”
She looks at you with young and hopeful eyes. And the bridge between yours and hers was the same as the clear blue sky meeting the waters of the sunset sea. She pouted her lips up in her own adorable fashion, and perhaps even unintentionally placed your hand on her pregnant stomach.

“Will you meet with him Mervyn? This could be a chance for us to get out of here for a while, to just be husband and wife together…”

You sigh and roll your neck, feeling a series of cracks and pops as you work out your stiffness and let out a groan, before taking in a deep breath. In all truth, you simply wished to retire to your chambers, enjoy your wifes embrace and enter a sleep that lasted an age, but instead you found yourself agreeing to her request.

“Alright well, if I’m going to meet these people we had better go now.” You say giving her a soft smack on her rump to get her off your lap. You stand and change into a doublet befitting your station. You turn to Tyrus, telling him to take your armour to the castles smith and have the man repair the plate as much as he could before the final of the melee tomorrow. Your squire nods his head enthusiastically, enlisting in another boys help due to his wrist and they head off with your battered suit of plate.

Together, your wife and yourself make off towards your horses, and ride up towards the maze of pavilions, soon finding one of the very largest in a pure white with a tree embroidered in golden thread. Two men stand guard, clad in shining mail and half helms and armed with stout spears, and they uncross their spears to allow the two of you to pass once you’ve dismounted. A boy comes forward and leads your horses off to be tied up and you enter the large pavilion. Once inside, you we’re nearly floored by the opulence displayed. Lush carpets, and hard wood furniture dots the room. Your wife calls out and is soon answered by a polite feminine voice, and together you follow it into another chamber where you find Lord Mathis and Lady Bethany sitting down to a sumptuous meal. Lord Mathis stands to introduce himself, and cross the room, welcoming you and Allysa to his humble abode and clasping your hand in a surprisingly firm handshake, whilst Lady Bethany stands and smooths down the front of her skirts and offers you a hand, which you kiss as politely as you can manage, although the motion isn’t exactly practiced. Offering the two of you chairs, you pull out your wife’s chair for her before taking your own and the conversation begins as Lord Mathis begins to speak.

“I must say Ser Mervyn, your ability with a hammer is superb. I’ve not seen my cousin bested so thoroughly in some time. The way you avoided his blow with not an inch to spare…Well done Ser.”

He gestures for a moment as he digs into a crisp salad of greens as he continues to comment on your performance.

“I have to ask Ser, where is it you learned to fight in such a manner? What drives you to fight with such …intensity?

The mans tone takes a much more serious tone as he says this, and even a man such as you can put two and two together to realize he was talking about your duel with Ser Herman Swyft. You decided to answer…

“Well M’lord, er sorry, My Lord, I grew up in the north of the Westerlands. My father was a hedge knight who married a blacksmiths daughter. She died when I was young, and after she passed my father took me on as his squire as he made a living as a sellsword, taking work where he could find it.”

The lord looks at you briefly in between bites of his next course, as loaves of bread are served with fresh butter, speaking out between mouthfuls of bread for you to continue.

“As for how I learned to fight, my father taught me from the time I was ten. He was a harsh man, and in order to save myself from being beaten I had to learn to defend myself. Most often I would train with a tree branch, and from there it made the most sense to start using a mace. Not to mention a club was far cheaper than a sword. I suppose that I may have a manner of natural…”

You look to your wife who mouths the word “affinity” to you from just behind her glass.

“Affinity towards fighting, as some boys do, but I suppose that I learned to fight because I had to. Not because I wanted to like a lot of young boys, because if I didn’t know how, my father very well ay have beaten me to death.”

Lady Bethany looks at you with sad eyes, mirrored by those of your wife who looks down to the unborn child in her belly, while Lord Mathis looks you in the eye with a look that speaks slightly of sympathy, but the man is hard, and was used to violence, and such tales were common amongst lowborn people.

“My father eventually died of a pox, knighting me on his deathbed, and I continued in his footsteps until I came to Ember Peak and won my lovely wifes hand.”

This brings a smile to your wifes pretty face, her nose wrinkling up in her grin, and you can see her freckles in the torchlight.

“As for why I fought with such…intensity. You strike me as an honourable man Lord Mathis…” letting the silence form a question for the man.

“Indeed I am. I was knighted by Ser Gerold Hightower and was anointed at the Starry Sept in Oldtown. We in the reach hold chivalry in the highest of importance Ser.”

“Then I can imagine you would have not let an insult against your own lovely wife stand. Ser Herman came into our home, threatened my squire, and insulted my wifes honour with a toast of Reynold wine. He invoked the gods to bear witness not me, and they judged him guilty. Any knight would have done the same. I believe “protect all women” includes their honour no?”

---Mervyn’s Persuasion Test---
Rolled: 14 vs DC: 9, 12 ,15
2/3 Difficulties Achieved.

Lord Mathis looks at you with contemplative eyes as he chews thoughtfully. After he swallows his mouthful, he wipes his mouth with a cloth napkin, before letting it fall down to the table.

“I’m not sure if your wife has mentioned it or not yet, but she has asked if I might allow the two of you to stay in Goldengrove once she is in a proper state to travel. After listening to you now, I’m inclined to offer you yourself the invitation Ser. Although you may be the son of a hedge knight, and lowborn, you conduct yourself with honour, even if I don’t necessarily agree with your methods, I can’t say I wouldn’t have been tempted to do the same thing should I have been in your position 10 years ago.”

Looking to your wife you see her smile widen even further, her cheeks widening and her eyes wrinkling with joy.

“I’d be honoured to visit your home my Lord. With my Lady’s blessing, mayhaps we’ll bring our child as well.”

“A splendid idea Ser” Bethany chimes in, which earns a scowl from Lord Mathis.

“As I was saying…the Reach is a place where chivalry reigns. You fought with honour during the melee, even defeating one of my bannerman’s most fearsome fighter. Ser Austin Osgrey is notorious amongst the men of Coldmoat for being heavy handed against those he squires with, as Lord Remus Webber’s heir Roland knows to his own shame. The two of them were sparring in preparation for this tourney and Ser Roland broke his arm in the process. He has not stopped complaining about it since we’ve arrived.”

You nod in thought, rather unsure what to say and Lord Mathis continues after a moment.

“Perhaps if the two of you enjoy Goldengrove enough, you might decide to foster your child there when it is of an age. Premature I know, but the offer is there Ser. If you are in need of a place for your child to learn the ways of chivalry, or the noble womanly arts, I would be honoured to host your child.”

He looks to your wife as he comments that he was sure her younger brother James could testify that Goldengrove was a wonderful place to live and grow up.

“Well Ser, what do you say?”

You look to your wife and you look to her reaction and she gives you a look that speaks volumes. The way her smile changes tells you that there was much she had to say on the matter, and you in turn face the Lord across the table.

“My Lord, I, uh, appreciate the offer, but I can’t say it’s one that I can accept right now. Fostering isn’t something I know a great deal about, having grown up where I did. And if I am going to give you my first born child, I would have to visit Goldengrove before hand. Meet some of the women about the castle should it be a girl, your knights and master at arms if I’m blessed with a son. So if it doesn’t cause to much offense, I would like to thank you, and ask for it to be put on hold.”

Your wife smiles with a nod and relaxes back into her chair and continues her own conversation with Lady Bethany, while Lord Mathis’ eyebrows narrow shrewdly and he leans in just a mite, placing his elbows on the table, letting the women talk and making the conversation to one of men.

“You do know even a dinner such as this is higher than a man of your birth and rank should expect? And an offer to foster a child is nearly unheard of for a household knight. The only reason I even make the offer is that Allysa is my cousins daughter, and you strike me as an honest man who values the code of chivalry, in your own common way mind you, but nonetheless someone who takes the knights vows to heart.”

He lets silence hang heavy in the air for a moment, and for a moment it appears that you’ve caused the man insult before his solemn scowl breaks into a small, approving smile.

“But your refusal tells me you value family even higher, and that is something I can respect. I can understand your hesitation at sending away your child, especially being common born as you are, but rest assured, it fosters relations between houses, creates allies between children and shapes them into adult.”

He looks over and sees your two respective wives deep in conversation, and leans in and lowers his voice as he leans into you…

“Perhaps once this business with the Serrets is over, and your child is born the two of you may come. I expect Elleanor will be holding a meeting with myself and Titus before I leave. If you ask me, she is playing a dangerous game, but it is not my place to run this house.”

The night continues on for another several hours and courses, and eventually you and your wife bid yourselves a good night. The two of you retire to your chambers, and the two of you enjoy each others company in as vigorous a way as Allysa’s condition allows before falling to a black and empty sleep.
>>
---10/04/281---

You awaken to sunlight pouring in through the windows of your chamber, illuminating the interior of the mountain hall that your home was. Small pieces of dust float blissfull in the air, reflecting the radiant light as you take a long stretch on your bed. You feel the warmth of your wifes body against your side, and the soft skin of the wolf that now adorned your bed and you look down, enjoying the peaceful respite. Your wife’s enthusiasm last night had been a welcome surprise, and looking down at your thick chest had revealed numerous small bruises and scratches, evidence of her enthusiasm getting the better of her. You had even quipped that perhaps you should start wearing your armour to bed, to which the two of you had fallen to pieces laughing.

Snorting at the memory, Allysa opens her eyes and smiles at you with her big pouty lips. The sun was shining in her eyes, and you could see the light freckling of her otherwise porcelain skin as she stretched out the nights activites out of her skin.

“Promise me you’ll win today?” she asks still rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.

“Aye, I’ll win Ally. For you.” You say with a wink and a smile.

“Good. You had better get up and prepare yourself, and you should see Maester Aethan again about changing your bandages.”

“You just want the whole bed to yourself.”

This brings a childish giggle from her and she sprawls an arm and her legs over you, to which you respond with an eye roll and a groan as you swing your legs off of your bed and go to dress yourself. You dress yourself in simple clothing as you would soon be changing into your armour. You look back at your wife, taking in her naked form and found her all the more attractive for the changes that were happening to it. Her stomach had grown considerably, and her breasts had swollen dramatically. She frequently complained of sore feet, and the frequency which she used the privy was staggering.

As you walked out you joked for her to keep her breasts off of your wolfskin, on account of the milk that had occasionally started leaking from them. She scowls at you and pulls a blanket over her body in a pouting manner, denying you a view as you depart to which you laugh as you open the door to depart and make your way down for the finale.
>>
--2 hours later—

You stood clad in your armour once again, armed with hammer and shield. The crowd had filled the space around the arena and you looked over to the Reynold box, seeing the entire family watching you to which you raise your hammer and the crowd cheers. You then look across at your opponent, and you see a large man in black, red and yellow motley wielding an axe and a longsword together. He wears what looks like an excellently wrought suit of black half plate and soon the you can hear the herald shout.

“LORDS AND LADIES, MEN AND WOMEN, I AM PROUD TO PRESENT OUR TWO FINAL COMBATENTS!!

“FIRSTLY, THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE HOST HOUSE OF REYNOLD! A MAN WHO’S HAMMER BLOWS COULD RIVAL THE SMITHS! THE CAPTAIN OF THE LOYAL REINS AND THE SWORN SWORD OF LADY ELLEANOR REYNOLD HERSELF, I AM PROUD TO INTRODUCE SER! MERVYN! REYNOLD!

The crowd cheers in raucous applause and you raise your hammer and shield and spin for the crowd. The castle smith had worked tirelessly through the night to repair our armour, and he had done an admirable job, but the suits age was beginning to tell. It would likely need replacing in the near future, but those were thoughts for another day.

“AND MAY I ALSO PRESENT OUR OTHER FINALIST. A FEARSOME FIGHTER, THE FIGHTING FOOL HIMSELF. SER FLORIAN FALWELL OF MUMMERS HALL!

The crowd cheers, although through your helmet you can’t tell if it was quieter or louder than your own applause, and the herald raises a piece of fabric and lets it fall to the ground, shouting “BEEEEEEEEGIN” as it flutters to the earth.

The two of you charge at one another, and as Ser Florian gets charger you realize the man is not only faster than you, he is also larger than you as well. He stands at least 6 and a half feet tall by your estimation, and when he brings both of his weapons down on you with a thunderous clash it is all you can do to raise your shield just in time to absorb the fearsome attack. You can see the top of your iron rimmed shield had a small dent from the blade of his sword, and you were certain that a large gouge would be visible in your shield. It had not all gone his way though however, wielding two weapons left his left side vulnerable, and you had used your own momentum to swing your hammer low while employing your block and the head had connected with his greave just below his knee. He was agile though and had managed to take the weight off of the leg before the strike connected, so the attack wasn’t as crippling or dangerous as it otherwise might have been but you were still certain that the blow had connected enough to cause him discomfort.

The man attempts to use his longer reach to his advantage and unleashes a vicous scissoring attack with his weapons that allows him to attack both sides of you at once. Your shield manages to block the blow of his axe again, but you can hear the wood splinter slightly once he rips it free, almost opening your defence slightly, but your hammer does a poor job of defending against his sword and to blade rides up against the steel of the hammer and collides into your hand with a nasty crunch. You roar in pain but manage to not lose hold of your weapon despite the pain. The blow had likely broken a finger, but you persevered regardless. By the gods he was fast, and with his reach it was difficult to get inside to actually deal damage to him. Time slows and your mind wanders to a time when you were perhaps 11 years old.

Your father had been teaching you to fight, drunk as he normally was, and he was beating you bloody with a club while you screamed at him there was no way for you to beat him, that he was simply too big and too strong. He drunkenly laughed and swung his club again into your ribs say that in that case you had might as well die, because there would always be a man bigger and stronger than you somewhere in the world. It was at that point you found your body subconsciously moving as your 11 year old self had. After he had struck you stepped in hard and fast, bashing him with your shield. Your father you had knocked over, and you had picked up his fallen club and beaten him with it until he got up. You had ran away after that for nearly a week before he found you.

But Ser Florian hadn’t fallen. Instead he had taken a step back from the force of your shoulder charge behind your shield and you used that space to effectively use your hammer, raising it on high and bring it down with a mighty crash against the roundel of his armour. The steel gave way before your might and you heard the man curse loudly as he attempted to gain space again to use his longer reach again.

He was finally beginning to slow. He tried to create distance between the two of you, but you pressed in as close as you could while still being able to swing your hammer. He lashed out again, this time going for your head. Perhaps he was beginning to get desperate. You yourself never changed your fighting style. You kept moving on, as tireless as the tide, bashing against the rocks until eventually they wore down to nothing. This strike you manage to block his sword, but his axe comes down against your helmet with a clamour that sounds as if a lightning strike had come down right on top of you, momentarily disorienting your senses. Your visor had been ripped off by the blow, and together with the sound, the sudden influx of light had blinded you for half a second, but you recover admirably. Instead of backing away, you had rushed into him in your moment of weakness, preventing him from regaining the advantage.

As if in revenge, you spied his leg you had struck against earlier and swung your hammer with all your might. He brings both weapons down in an attempt to parry the strike but the angle is too awkward to allow him much strength. Your hammer is slowed, but not stopped and the clang of steel on steel echoes through and you find the man nearly drops to his knee from your attack. He manages to regain his balance, but only just, and is now clearly favouring his left leg. You both pause for the briefest of moments. This man was the fiercest you had fought in some time, and you had to give him respect purely for his prowess, but the fighting was not over yet.

Also, I'm trying to avoid taking the last injury or taking a wound because I'm trying to set you guys up as well as I can for the joust, where you will need all the help you guys can get. I kind of disagree with that. I could be a dick and just take off injuries for relative minor damage that doesn't affect you guys, but that wouldn't be fair to deliberately hinder you. Florian, for example, is a PC level fighter, but for a real challenge, I think the fighting dice pool for a serious enemy might have to be 7(5+2 or 6+1) in order to allow for some more challenge. I gave him more health and stronger weapons then you, but made him less skilled. Might have to run some test fights to figure out a blanace for upcoming events. I just want it all above board and fair for you guys if you know what I'm saying.

Base Damage: 5/6(Two handed attack with hand axe)

Ser Florian steps back and first swings a powerful blow with his sword to which you angle your body and use your shield to block quite handily now that the man was slowing down. What you don’t see was his axe come again and swing firmly into your side, and while your armour stopped the blow, you were positive that the blow had left yet another massive black bruise on you. You spin, a move you used frequently and were well practiced at, and put all of your momentum into the swing that snapped at Ser Florians head like the crack of a whip. It was an incredible feat of fortitude for the man to stay on his feat, although his balance was clearly off as he threw his weapons to the ground and attempted to wrench off the helm that was clearly hindering him.

>>Let him take his helmet off and regather himself (Fight with honour)
I think it's a bit tough to justify this in-character but I'd wager that Merv would remember the Rowan Lord's recent talk about honor, and he'd think about how he is representing not just himself but house Reynold in this combat
>>
>>3556360
I can see how it could be taken as contradiction, but it's not meant as such. As I said, I just want an honest challenge, not one where I force you guys to take unnecessary wounds and deliberately set you guys up for failure. Although I think most of the challenge for this quest is going to come from the intrigue and plotting aspect, because Merv is a fucking beast in combat.

>>3556370
Thats fairly accurate. It was only last night that a powerful lord commended him about honour and chivalry, and Merv seeks power, while Allysa is ambitious. Making sure that he stays in someones good books for his family(his motivation) seems in character enough.

Fight with honor
>>
>Let him take his helmet off and regather himself (Fight with honour)
You lowered your guard and stood by while the man attempted to wrench his helmet off with little success. Upon seeing your guard drop, the crowd cheers at the display while 2 squires rush onto the field to help Ser Florian remove his helm. When they finally remove the misshapen piece of metal, Ser Florian stands tall and you see a massive goose egg mar his brow on what would otherwise be a relative comely face. He swept back his short hear and wiped the sweat from his eyes, before one of the squire’s hands him back his weapons and he stands and salutes you.

His fine armour was in shambles, his eyes looked foggy and dazed but still he stood and as you both hefted your weapons, you commenced the fight again.

The fight continues, but Ser Florians strength has all but left him. His weapons thud against your shield but they lack the strength from before. Your counter attack is ruthless. You spin your hammer in your hands and bring the spike down on the ruined roundel and pull as hard as you can. Straps give way and the breastplate is half torn off of the mans body. The spike left a deep gouge in the mans shoulder and he drops his axe to the dirt again and his arm goes limp, his fingers attempting to grasp a weapon that was no longer there. The man has a stare that almost looked through you, and his will power must have been immense, because he meekly raised his sword and attempted to swing at you again.

His sword swings at you but the blow is so weak that you counter it with a blow from your hammer to the blade cause it to crack and split, as well as going flying half a dozen yards away. You using the rim of your shield to bash the man in his jaw, and you hear the crack as his four front teeth shatter into small white pieces to the savagery of the blow. The man finally falls to his knees, but falls no further, maintaining his upright posture in an inhuman display of defiance. You look at the man and rest your hammer on the ground, removing your own helm to regard him face to face.

“Yield Ser. You’ve fought bravely, but this fight is over.”

The man mumbles out something incomprehensible as his hand fumbles about, reaching for a weapon. By all the gods you thought to yourself, the man truly was a fighting fool. You pick up your weapon and with the head of your hammer, lightly place it against the mans chest, and with a gentle prod, the man falls into the dirt and lets out an exhausted breath, defeated at last.

The cries of the herald are drowned out by the roar of the crowd who cheer your name. You turn and face the crowd and give them a show, roaring out your celebration with a mighty cry that hurts your throat, but you care not. You had won the melee, and 200 gold dragons to boot. Your mind races about what could be bought with that kind of coin, and eventually your eyes come to the box where your family sits. It wasn’t traditional for the winner of the melee to declare a queen of love and beauty, but there were plenty of flowers being thrown your way. Common things, daisies and dandelions but they were flowers nonetheless.

--- Declare a Queen of Love and Beauty ---
>yay

---If so, Who?---

>The Bride, Andrea Brax
>Someone else? Suggestions.
>>
>>3556566
>yay

>Your wife, Allysa Reynold

naturally
>>
>>3556566
>nay
If it's not tradition, I'd rather not. Just give the wife a smile.
Also check on our opponent. Help him back to his feet if possible.
>>
>>3556566
>>nay
We just made a wise decision, let's not go counteracting it. Also supporting >>3556591
about checking on our opponent
>>
>>3556566
>Nay

Let's get the fool to the Maester, but also you know, wink at our wife
>>
And who says romance is dead? Quick wink and a smile to the wife, and we'll help out Ser Florian.

I think Mervyn is playing as a sort of lowborn Randyll Tarly, and I have to say I love it. He seems like someone who can go from 0 to 100 very fast. I mean, today we gave our opponent a chance to remove his helm and are going to help him to his feet, and not the day before we brutally killed someone in cold blood for insulting our wife. I think it's a cool dynamic that I'm really enjoying writing.
>>
>>3556633
He's the guy who puts on a good show for the nobles and ladies, but is a steel core of don't fuck with me underneath.

Honestly I think he's doing the Chivalry stuff in public because it looks good, not because he believes in it.
>>
>>3556633
Well, hopefully Merv's behavior goes some way to erasing the perception that he's just some tactless son-of-a-bastard that's lucky to be there. He might get off on proving nobles wrong.
>>
>>3556644
>>3556647

I'm really getting off on the fact that you guys managed to get Mathis Rowan on your side. The fact that a reach lord likes Mervyn, where they hold chivalry in the highest regard, whereas in the Westerlands most of the high lords are at best neutral, and many are hostile, despite the Westerlands being full of monsters like Gregor Clegane and Amory Lorch kills me. The irony is delicious.
>>
I don't know how many of you are into 40K or Warhammer, but a charming, handsome and likable guy with an Iron Core and steel nerve, and underlying murderous temper, describes Horus really well. And Merv

Also they both have big wolf pelts and hammers
>>
You walked in the direction of the box, just close enough to make out who was who and make eye contact with your wife. She smiles and beckons you over, but you give her a quick shake of the head and give her a wink. She rolls her eyes playfully before returning the wink and you walk back to the heavily wounded Ser Florian and help his two squires pull him to his feet. Being such a large man the two boys were struggling, but with your help the man is soon limping off to the see the maester. The crowd roars again with your display of chivalry, and you go to follow him, but soon the herald is announcing you as the winner of the melee and raises your hand victoriously. You bask in the love and adoration of the crowd while they begin to cheer your name once again. “MERVYN! MERVYN!” In truth, the feeling was an odd one for you. During most of your previous tournaments nobody had even known your name, and at the one where you won your wife’s hand, the upset there had lessened the effect of your victory over Ser Herman Swyft. But crowds were fickle things and today they loved you.

Lord Titus had descended from his box, looking resplendent in his raiment of grey and gold, and strode over the field and waved at the crowds with a large smile on his face. He pulled a very large purse from his belt and made a grand show of handing it over to you and shaking your hand, even going so far as to embrace you, as perhaps a father might embrace his son in law in another more tightly knit family. As he does so, he whispers quietly in your ear…

“Meet me in the gardens this evening at midnight. Celebrate, but stay sober enough to make an informed decision. Come alone, and make sure you are not followed. If Allysa asks where you go, tell her whatever you need to, but keep this meeting secret.”

And with that, he breaks away from the embrace and regards the crowd once more. He shakes your hand a final time and leaves you standing in the field to the chanting crowd. It was midday, and the beginning rounds of the joust would be starting soon. The early rounds would be mostly chaff, hedge knights such as your former self and the like, and you needed not trouble yourself with them. Being of the host family, you would start on the morrow. Your wife had picked up her skirts and made her way over to you, and she kissed you long and deeply while the crowd cheered and made comments and jeers, as she took your hand and lead you off to watch the jousts together, and begin your celebrations.
>>
Ha Ha. Victory bj for Mervyn
>>
And that's going to be a wrap for today I think. I'll be around for a while to answer any questions like normal, but well done there guys. 200 gold dragons in your pocket. Enough to buy the loyalty of Black feather Fred, or all other manner of upgrades.

I'm hoping to finish up the tournament next thread, and then we can get into the nitty gritty events of a war with the Serrets, and maybe a visit to Lannisport to escort some people home, either the Lannisport Lannisters or the Farmans. Either way, difficult moral choices are on the horizon, and the plots and schemes are beginning to take shape behind the scenes.

>>3556662
Holy shit. I mean Mervyn isn't quite that charming but still.
>we Horus Lupercal now

>>3556708
take it that titus has realised his son in law is the terminator.

I am also sure Alyssa would be up for that if she believed she could get away with it. But i was thinking in private.

Thanks for running
>>
>>3556708
I am sure the wife is expecting pretty and expensive gifts. Am i right?
>>
>>3556708
When is Alyssa expecting?
>>
>>3556711
Titus knew Mervyn was a beast, but without giving to much away, he is changing his plan a little bit. The honourable bit impressed him, and he and Elleanor are fighting like cats and dogs behind closed doors right now.

>>3556717
Giving a 17 year old gifts is never a bad idea, but she is more focused on her baby right now. New clothes wont fit her long because shes pregnant, but some jewellery or something if we visit Lannisport? That would always go over well. Also, next thread there will be an opportunity to get her a hand maiden, and in Lannisport I'm sure you can find a gardener to help her plant some flowers.

She is due in 2 months. Just about 7 months pregnant now.
>>
>>3556739
What are the chances that Alyssa dies in childbirth ?
>>
>>3556756
The bit of research if done suggests around around a 1% change of her dying in child birth. Itll be a d100 roll, followed by another roll to see what the kid looks like, its gender and future temperament on a chart I have made up.
>>
>>3556782
Neat. Could you share the chart so we can take a look `?

Okay looks like the little bugger is taking after Mervyn and Tyrus. Allysa isn't kidding when she says that the little fucker is fighting in her stomach.

Time for traits. Does our little guy inherit any from his parents?

Attractive from Mervyn: Odds = Yes. Evens = No (He won't be ugly if no, just not jaw dropping handsome like Merv is)

Blood of the Andals from Allysa, Evens = Yes, Odds = No

Well, our boy isn't as chiselled as his old man, but with his parents at least he won't be homely.

And yeah, blood of the andals is probably the better trait for him.

Alright what else is there to roll for...

Let's go with height and weight.

1-2 = Shorter than Merv (5'9ish)
3-4 = Same height as Merv (5'11ish)

Lastly, we'll roll for a defining character trait.

The name Marqus is going to be respected by a lot of people. Marqus Reynold was a well respected person by Tywin, particularily because he didn't take advantage of Tytos being so weak, but also due to his deeds during the 5th Blackfyre Rebellion. He was directly the reason the Reynolds weren't annihilated during the purge.

Marqus would likely be a one time shot, simply because Mervyn and Allysa's child is going to be the first grandchild. If they don't take it and Tygon has a boy, he will likely use it. Elleanor will love it, and just about everyone in the Westerlands will respect it

Garth or Gareth would likely go over well with Mathis Rowan and the other reach lords.

>I capitulated too much with the boy/girl thing,
Damn straight you did. The dice were clearly calling for a girl.
The only recourse is for you to roll us a d100 to see if it's surprise twins.

Thats a reasonable request. Pick 2 numbers between 1-100. I'll give it 1/50 odds because twins run in the family.

I would be so stoked if it was twins. I re-did all the rolls for her and it came out perfect.

Don't tempt me with twins. I'm weak willed when it comes to the prospect of large families. or give me a reason, because I'm scared I might offend the dice gods with my hubris. I never should have even rolled for the gender and just stated it was a boy

Rolled 24 (1d100)

If i roll over 50 it is twins

>>3557502
Just go with how it is. Mervyn can always have another one later on

Fatigue is a hell of a thing. I haven't slept in nearly 36 hours and when I get tired I lose most of my disagreeableness, so in a small act of contrition, I'll say that when Allysa gets pregnant again(assuming she survives this birth), its twins, and one is for sure a girl. Work for everyone?
>>
>>3557502
Nah. Merv will fuck Aly for as long as they could so it's no big deal. We'll have at least 7 children by the time of the books.
>>
>>3557526
Whatever works for you, man.
>>
>>3557530
This is true. 7 kids is going to be hard to provide for unless Merv manages to seriously increase his position. I'm talking like landed knight level of increase, with his own lands and incomes. Even then it will still be a struggle with dowry's and the like.

>>3557539
Yeah I'm committing to it. Fuck it. Mervyn needs a daughter to be protective over.
>>
>>3557548
His firstborn son seems to be a wife-version of himself.
>>
>>3557548
I mean, all their food and education is paid for by our wife's house. All we really need cash for is their eventual marriages.

Also what's this 7 talk, Ally's got at least 10 in her.
>>
>>3557554
(Marqus?) really does seem a lot like Mervyn had he been born a Reynold. He'll be 18 by the time the war of five kings rolls around too. I wonder what he'll get up to there.

>>3557579
Well I mean we will still need dowries, inheritances, bride prices. Don't forget stamp duty, window tax, swamp insurance, hen food, dog biscuits, cow ointment. The expenses are endless.

Also, who is she? Alysanne Targaryen? 10 children...by the seven.
>>
>>3557585
I take it that both Titus and Ellanor will feel more comfortable that their grandson takes after their daughter rather than the once-hedge knight that she married ?
>>
>>3557585
>Also, who is she? Alysanne Targaryen? 10 children...by the seven.

Will Alyssa's children also all be Strong. Or is that the wrong Targ i am thinking about `?
>>
>>3557590
Well, Elleanor will be happy no matter what, but the fact that he's going to look like a Reynold is an added bonus. Titus doesn't really care one way or the other who the child takes after. He will be far more concerned about Tygon and Andrea's child seeing as it's his heirs firstborn. (oh yeah, Andrea is definitely pregnant from her bedding ceremony)

Alysanne Targaryen was the queen of Jaehaerys the 1st. She gave him like, 12 or 13 children and I think 10 survived until adulthood.

>>3557585
Hey man their names are similar too
