Ah, news. I have an interview and weld test tomorrow! This is both good and bad- good in that I do need a new gig, bad in that it's basically the last place I want to live, and it involves both moving and pretty heavy OT again. If I was more of a shitbag- not to say I'm not- I'd bomb it on purpose, but I'm not, so. It *shouldn't* interfere with the run at all tomorrow, but I can't promise anything, and of course I'm not sure past that. In addition, they hire through a temp agency, and if it's the one I think it is, there may be drama involving them. Anyway, what this means for us is still unknown, so you'll have to keep an eye on twitter, I'm afraid. Sorry about that. Archive here! http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Strike%20Witches%202016 Note that the archive has the first run too- you can ignore that entirely to save time. I was in a bad place when I wrote it and it shows, but it's got nothing to do with this run. I think that's enough for now, though.=========================================================================================================================================The problem, you reflect, is that Natalya and Stasya have both always been more than a little possessive of you- and aren't above fighting, in their own way, over which one of them got what she wanted. In this case, of course, it's which of them got to sit next to you- and, as a result, didn't have to sit next to the snakes. Of course, it's not that Lindsay and Rebecca are difficult to be around- they're probably the most reserved of the quintuplets. Rebecca has a hell of a temper, of course, but she's surprisingly shy, along with Lindsay. Of course, they're like their sisters in that they're still competitive and physically very fit, but they're also the two most likely to put off a morning run to go read something. And, being Bishops, they're all well-known by the staff here, which makes this easy- you had a booth on the deck set aside for yourselves. After Stasya and Natalya had their brief power struggle to sit next to you- which you foiled by electing to sit next to Rebecca and Lindsay anyway- you were able to order drinks before the questions started. “Rumor in the fleet is you're flying with that Jap princess.” Lindsay says, quietly. Stasya nods from her place across the table. “And that the matrons are... less than pleased by it.” She adds. You shrug. “I don't know, no matron has said anything about it to me.” “They probably won't.” Rebecca says. “They're scared to death of offending your mother right now, not with the yearly congress coming up.” “Maman's position isn't that strong.” You point out.“It's enough to tip the balance.” Stasya counters. “It's also not what we're talking about. Why her? There are unsettling rumors about her.” 1/2
“Unproven.” Rebecca points out. Stasya shrugs. “Maybe, but unsettling regardless.” She says. “Rumor says aunt merlin offered to abandon papa to fly with you.” “Rumors already?” You ask. She shrugs. “Cassieopiea talks to me too, you know.” “Cass is probably just jealous she can't fly with Morgan.” Lindsay points out. “Aunt Merlin is in for MIU plugs now.” Natalya points out. “She could potentially fly with Morgan, after this.” “Doubt it.” Rebecca responds, before you can say anything. “She never hooked up with dad.” “She didn't have it nearly as bad for him as she does for Morgan. And it was never mutual.” Lindsay responds from next to her. “big question is is Morg's co gonna go for it?” “How do our conversations always get here?” You ask. “Sorry.” Lindsay says for all of them. “So how are you, big bro? We haven't had a chance to talk since before you graduated.” Rebecca smiles. “At least now you don't have to call us ma'am, right? We hear you put it to some air force witches that got carried away up north.” Shrug- you beat them because they got sloppy and Lotus did great work herself. You won't say you taught them a lesson, but maybe spending the night in Nome did.

Maybe we should cut this off before it lingers. Let them voice their opinions, and make it clear that their opinions can't actually change anything.

Ok, votes called!
[x] Shrug- you beat them because they got sloppy and Lotus did great work herself. You shrug. “We beat them because they got sloppy and Lotus did great work herself.” You say. “Sloppy?” Rebecca asks, and you nod. “They were playing straight out of Tabitha's book.” You respond. “Chaser, Shooter, Overwatch. Easy to beat if you know how.” Stasya shakes her head. “That's going to get a lot of girls killed if they try to play it against Chinese pilots.” She says. “They have access to those books too.” Rebecca shrugs. “It's not like it's easy to counter.” She points out. “Even against Wyverns it's almost always effective, except in fringe cases. I'd be interested to try it against Morgan with his girl in back now, just to see if it works or not.” “I doubt it would for you.” Natalya says, and you can see Rebecca's eyes narrow. “And why's that?” She asks. Natalya shrugs. “I doubt anyone other than myself or perhaps my predecessor has much of a chance against the princess, let alone once she is paired with our brother.” She says. “Any natural born witch is going to struggle to survive against her.” “So she's from a vat?” Rebecca asks, looking over at you, wide-eyed. “Morgan, what the hell?” She's not. She's an imperial witch, Aunt Merlin says it's not strange for them to be that strong. She might be, no one knows for sure and I don't care either way.
>>3571655>[x] She might be, no one knows for sure and I don't care either way.

>>3571655>[x] She's not. She's an imperial witch, Aunt Merlin says it's not strange for them to be that strong.
>>3571655>[X] She might be, no one knows for sure and I don't care either way.It doesn't particularly matter, either she's got a really potent talent distilled down the generations via the Imperial Family having specifically arranged marriages, or she's a test-tube baby with specifically chosen genetic donors for the most potent talent. Both are eugenics and the end result is pretty much the same for either one. Just that the latter means that the Japanese could in theory lock down particularly potent genetic combinations and pop out really powerful witches.
>>3571655>[X] She might be, no one knows for sure and I don't care either way.

Ok, votes called! sorry about that, had to go through my gearbag and make sure I wasn't carrying a lot of shit I didn't need. (I was)
[x] She might be, no one knows for sure and I don't care either way. “She might be.” You say, kind of dismissively. “But no one knows for sure and I don't care either way.” “I mean, it's kinda creepy.” Lindsay points out. “If she is, I mean.” Natalya shakes her head. “That is the least concern about her. It is of more concern that if she is designed, what that will mean for her children with our brother.” You blink as Rebecca chokes on her drink. “I think it's a little early to worry about that.” You point out far more calmly than you would have had it been anyone else. “Average time between initial flight and children is less than two years.” Natalya responds. “It is a more immediate concern than you realize little brother.” “Of course, then there's always Aunt Merlin.” Lindsay points out. Natalya shakes her head. “We have discussed this many times before. And while we all do think the same on the subject, their children are not a concern for this conversation.” “This conversation.” Rebecca agrees. “Maybe a different one.” You sigh. “Oh, ok. Morgan's getting frustrated with us again.” Lindsey says. “So you're on your deck tour this week?” You shake your head. “We leave next Friday, this week will be workup and familiarization with the MIU active and the AI up.” “And that starts when she's out of the hospital?” You nod. “Which will be soon.” Stasya says, confidently. “I expect she'll be in for just the minimum time.”“Oooh, so we get to meet her soon?” Rebecca asks. “Morgan, you going to introduce us to her?” I probably don't have much of a choice, do I. If we have the time. She's going to want to start flying right away.

[x] I probably don't have much of a choice, do I.“I don't have much of a choice, do I?” You ask, resigned. “Not really.” Rebecca says cheerfully. “I mean, you're going to end up basically married to her, so of course we're going to want to meet her as soon as we can.” “Oh man, Cass is gonna haaaaate her.” Lindsay points out. “Cass doesn't hate Auntie M.” Rebecca points out. “Cass doesn't think Auntie M and Morgan will ever get together.” Lindsay says. “She's just like Morgan.” “Regardless.” Natalya interrupts. “We all know Morgan will never tell the truth about his desire for Samantha, and it's immaterial. I do look forward to meeting this Kyou.”“As do I.” Stasya says. “She held herself aloof from the rest of the witches aboard in the week she was aboard. I talked to her, of course, but she remains...” “Plastic?” Rebecca asks. “Formal.” Stasya corrects, then looks over at you. “She does seem like she will be an excellent match for you in public, Morgan. How does she fly?” She's very aggressive, and leans on her raw strength more than I'm comfortable with. She knows how good she is and uses it. We're going to work well, I think.

>>3572039I have accepted that as my punishment for goofing it up. In my defense I was out of town and trying to do it from my phone.
>>3571999> She knows how good she is and uses it. We're going to work well, I think. We shouldn't go around talking about aggressiveness with people she doesn't even know. It feels wrong.
No offense to Ghost or anyone whose into the pairing, but am I the only one who doesn't see any chemistry between Morgan and Merlin? Like he's just being a good, dutiful nephew? Or do all the Bishop girls just assume every girl is as thirsty for him as Cass?
[x] She knows how good she is and uses it. We're going to work well, I think. “She knows how good she is and uses it.” You say. “We're going to work well, I think.” Stasya nods. “I had wondered. She made a point of not showing her strength while she was aboard, but I have heard that she was strong enough to shield from a lancer shot.” “Speaking of, what happened there?” Lindsay asks. “I heard one of the girls out of that plane was still critical.” You shake your head. “I haven't heard yet.”“Engine failures.” Stasya answers. “The pilots are saying they had two flame outs attempting to maneuver to engage, and the adverse yaw induced an uncontrollable state of flight too rapidly to counter.” “So we did cause it?” You askShe shakes her head. “No. Pilot error. They knew their aircraft's limit and overcontrolled it.”“Oof.” Rebecca says. “That's why I never went for that. Trust a Pilot? No offense Morgan.” “None taken.” You say. “How did they do that though? That's not anything that should have caused that?” Stasya shrugs. “Accident investigation is ongoing, but because it involved witches it's gone through the coven. That's the only reason I know as much as I do.” She says. “And no, none of the witches are still critical. They'll be off flight status for another month plus though.” Natalya shrugs. “It is more telling that they were forced into such actions.” She says with a look at you. “I was told that Kyou was able to accelerate your aircraft without inertia.” You nod. “You are aware that, even for an imperial line, that would be an incredible step up in power, especially considering her mother and sister do not display similar power.” “But all our sisters aren't on the same level either.” you point out. “Christina is noticeably stronger than both Tabitha and Anastasia.” “Non Newtonian motion is levels of magnitude more difficult than anything else. There are almost no witches that can do it.” Natalya says. “Myself and Konstantina are the only two confirmed until now. For a witch to naturally be able to match us is unprecedented.” “But it doesn't matter. So how do you feel about Auntie Merlin following you into the fleet?” Becca asks. I'm looking forward to it. Her getting back to the front is going to be good for her, I think. I'm not sure yet. I know what she can do, but I don't know if she's really doing it for the right reasons.

This is also coming from someone who until recently viewed even the discussion of said potential pairing as completely heretical.

>>3572463I think it's more that Morgan is anti-lewd.Like, imagine being Merlin, Cass, or any of the witches that are utterly fawning over Morgan. He's utterly perfect, raised to an impeccable and almost impossible standard, and so far hasn't shown the slightest hint of accepting any forward advances. It must be maddening, maybe even insulting, for those so close to him to just have such lustful proxy and yet be so impossibly far from reahing what they desire. They all mock Cass, she's just their thin cover. Their veil of poise that, when struck back would surely reveal the writhing and aching desire. They would not say such things if they did not think the same, dream the same, want the same. No, Cass is just the one who never bothered to hide it. Feel sorry for her if you will, but she's at least pursuing what she wants. Merin and the rest are just waiting, yearning, and lusting for some sign, some oppurtunity, all in quiet suffering.
>>3572789I think it’s also that with family-Fronk proving that the unconventional family unit can be successful personally and professionally in-verse what we would call conventional restraints kinda go out the window.

She'd turn into a mess just trying.” Stasya fixes your sister with one of her blank, dangerous stares. “You have badly misread her if you believe that. Aunt Merlin is far more devious than you seem to think.” Rebecca smirks dubiously. “And that's why every third sentence around Morgan is a Freudian slip? Or why she blushes when she stares at him? C'mon sis we both know she's got it bad.”Stasya nods. “Maybe. Maybe. But don't ever think she doesn't know exactly how most people see her and know how to use it to get exactly what she wants.” She fixes that blank gaze on you. “And if you think she's merely following you because it's you, you may want to remember that she is no longer the little girl that followed our father to war- and that she's known for spending four or more months out of the year at Groom lake.” You blink about that- you've heard it mentioned before, though usually not in a sense like this. “You're implying aunt M is like, some kind of military genius.” Lindsey points out from her place next to the wall. Stasya shrugs. “Aunt Samantha has been joined to the military since she was ten and graduated top of her class at the navy war college and national war college. She is not the simple technophile she pretends to be.” “Ya know, if she's the social mastermind you're telling us she is, then why hasn't she managed to bag Morgan yet?” Rebecca asks. “I mean, I'm not saying you're wrong, but it is kinda questionable.” Stasya shrugs. “Love makes people do stupid things.” She says. “And here we go again.” You say. “Can we not?” Stasya nods. “You're right, it's not worth the effort. None of us will convince you now if we haven't already. Because no one has gotten an answer out of you, how have you been little brother?” You've been doing pretty well, all told. Merlin gave us a key to her house and sleeps on our bed without a second thought. Shared interests, constant freudian slips, etc. And we're totally fine with all of it it. Any outside observer (and we have a whole peanut gallery of lewd sisters) is going to take one look at the situation and think of her as a girlfriend/wife, because she practically is in all but name. We've never outright acknowledged it or crossed the line into physical intimacy at any point, but the potential is there.Whether or not anything happens between us is too early to say, but there is the distinct possibility that we might end up plugged into the same plane as Merlin at some point.

Ok guys, we're good to go! Sorry about last evening, it got really hard to concentrate on things there, I was pretty mad at myself. Still am, but I've had a day to process and a bit of rum so I'm good, haha! Sorry again though, I don't really like being selfish like that. =================================[x] You've been doing pretty well, all told. “Pretty well, all told.” You respond. “I hear there were complications with your implants though.” Stasya says, and Natalya nods. You shrug. “Minor ones.” You respond. “Doc said my heart stopped when the implants were activated, but they were able to restart it immediately. They still held me another seventy two hours and kept me confined to post for another couple days.” “Your heart stopped? That sounds like the opposite of of a minor issue.” Lindsey says. You shrug. “They were able to restart it almost as soon as it happened.” You say. “And there's not supposed to be any lasting effects. And they signed me off for flight.” “Well duh.” Rebecca says. You smile. “Well, you asked.” You say, looking up as the waitress comes over and smiles. “Been a while since we've seen so many of you at once!” She says as she pulls out her order pad. “What's the occasion?” “Morgan here just completed his first phase Wyvern workup.” Lindsay says. “And we just got back in town.” “Wyvern? You're a fighter pilot?” The waitress asks, with a surprised expression on her face. You nod, confused- you've been here more than once since you arrived at Miramar, and it's not like the place ever seemed to have lost it's ability to check up on you through back channels- they do that for all the regular patrons. It's part of the mystique of the place. “Oh my. Have you gotten the package the old man left?” She asks, and you frown, confused. “No?” You respond. 1/2
“Oh! Well, I'll make sure you do. You know the owner? Not the current one, but the original Santa?” She asks, and you nod- you do have vague memories of the man, though they're very limited, he died when you were still pretty young. “He left a few things behind for you, when you earned your wings.” She says. “I'll call the owner up, he's off right now, but he's got the key to the safe.” She smiles. “No one knows what it is! Ooh, this is cool. I'll be back in a couple minutes for your orders!” You watch her go as you feel four sets of eyes come to settle on you. “What?” You ask. “Santa left you a present?” Rebecca asks. “He didn't leave any of us anything!” “Other than a pass to eat for free whenever we're here.” Stasya points out. Rebecca shrugs. “So? That's not even just us, and there's the military discount they give that might as well be the same thing. But Santa left a package for Morgan? One he didn't give to dad? That's strange.” Stasya pauses for a minute. Natalya just shrugs. “Perhaps it is something he felt father would not appreciate the same way Morgan will.” She points out. “They are not the same, and he did leave father several things upon his passing.” “Sure, because dad flew the missing man for him.” Lindsey says. “I mean, not because of that, but you know what I mean.” Natalya shakes her head. “That was a matter of respect. I am curious, though, as to what it could be. He died when Morgan was still quite young.” “Any guesses Morg?” Rebecca asks, turning to you. Not a clue. Well, she asked if I was a fighter pilot. Really?” You ask. It does get really old fairly quickly- and honestly is one of the reasons you do put up with Cass' behavior- she, at least, never needles you about Samantha. “Oop. He's getting mad. Sorry Morg.” Rebecca says.”So you gonna help us put the fear of god in the nuggets?” You blink. “No?” “You know what she means, right Morg?” Lindsey says. “Help you train the cadets in for their flight cycles?” You guess, and she nods. “Carnival at Miramar is the most wonderful time of the year.” She laughs. “Every incoming flight witch from every academy that's gone Navy will be here, and usually the navy will send down a couple drakes to help teach them to not get complacent. It's a great time for us to brush up on our skills against superfighters as well.”“And an excellent learning opportunity for the navy's top fighter pilots to hone their skills against witches.” Staysa supplies. “Because Cadre is always made up of the best witches the navy has in the fleet.” “And you can bet they're going to want to tangle with a Bishop.” Lindsey says. “Just to say they did!” “And this starts when?” You ask. “Cadre is already arriving.” Stasya says, gesturing at your sisters. “The cadets should start arriving late tonight or early tomorrow morning. Usually they're billeted in the same building you're in, on the lower decks.” “And there is a possibility the navy will not send wyvern crews this year.” Natalya points out. “Tensions are too high.” “That's never been an issue before though.” Rebecca says. “Even after September eleventh, and during the invasion in oh-three there were drakes at Carnival.”“Those were not peer opponents.” Natalya states. “And they're going to extend his deck tour to the IJN, too.” Stasya adds. “Another month for them to spend a week aboard the Kaga, Hiryuu, Soryuu, and Shinaino.” They are? I haven't heard anything yet. Because of Kyou, I guess?
>>3575439>[X] They are? I haven't heard anything yet.I would like to know more about this.
>>3575439> They are? I haven't heard anything yet.
>>3575439>[x] They are? I haven't heard anything yet.
>>3575439>[X] They are? I haven't heard anything yet.
>>3575439[X] They are? I haven't heard anything yet.Ghost did mention that Japan was a potential customer for Wyverns, it would make sense that they would want to test out existing systems. It probably doubles as a PR move to have an Imperial Princess and a Bishop do the rounds as well.
[x] They are? I haven't heard anything yet.“They are?” You ask, surprised. “I haven't heard anything yet.” Stasya nods. “It's just rumor, but my source is usually very accurate.” She says. “The Navy is starting to agree that the Japanese should have access to Wyverns, and with the princess in your backseat, it would have been hard to avoid. This way they get to look at handling a Wyvern and the princess gets to put in an appearance.” “So Morgan will be the first USN wyvern to fly off an IJN carrier?” Rebecca asks, and Stasya nods. “Dad never did, and even during exchanges, no wyvern has operated off an IJN carrier.” She confirms. “They're spread out throughout your itinerary, with the Shinaino last.”'Wonder if the new president will change that?” Lindsey says, looking over as the waitress returns- along with the owner and the manager on duty, along with some staff. “Morgan?” The owner asks, and you nod. You know him, vaguely, but not real well. He's part of the group that bought the restaurant from Santa's son in the early aughts, most of whom, you know, are local notables with a handful of Hollywood money being involved as well. This guy is one of the locals, you know, though you don't know much past that. He sets a small box, slightly bigger than a shoebox, on the table. “This has been sitting in the safe for you since we bought the restaurant.” He says with a faint wistful smile. “The original owner left it for you, and our honoring his wishes was part of the contract.” the smile grows a little. “Of course, we'd have honored it anyway. No one knows what's in it though.” “Ooh, you should open it now.” Lindsey says, leaning over the table to look past Rebecca. Yeah, I think I will. I think we should wait a bit. I don't wanna get food on whatever's in here.
>>3575545>[x] Yeah, I think I will.We can always put whatever it is back in the box to protect it from the food.
>>3575545>[X] Yeah, I think I will.
>>3575545> Yeah, I think I will.CURIOSITY AND CATS AND ALL THAT STUFF
>>3575545> Yeah, I think I will.
>>3575545>[x] Yeah, I think I will.
>>3575545>[x] Yeah, I think I will.Time to open and then rebox it.
>>3575545>[X] Yeah, I think I will.I bet it's a whistle.
>>3575598I had forgotten about this and it is making me laugh so damn hard! God I loved the whistle.
[x] Yeah, I think I will. You nod, pulling out your pocket knife and cutting quickly through the twine and tape securing the box closed. It parts easily- it's all pretty old, and even though it's been kept in a controlled environment, that stuff doesn't last forever, you know. There's no note, no envelope, nothing of the nature inside, just an old moleskien notebook, one that's been around for a while. It'd be unremarkable, except you have one similar- including the tell-tale stains of kitchen use. Nothing else is in the box, just that single notebook. Of course, you know exactly what it is- it's the man's cook book. Opening it, there's pages of sketches and math, notes and final recipes for burgers, sandwiches, and, at the back, desserts. Including the old man's famous- and till now, lost- chocolate cake recipe. Stasya seems to appreciate the gift- and you can tell the owner and staff recognize it for what it is as soon as you pull it out. Natalya frowns. “Was that all, little brother?” She asks. You nod, closing it and setting it back in the box. “It was.” “It seems a small gift to be kept so long or so carefully.” She says. “I understand the sentimental value, but it is a cookbook, yes? Why should recipes be so important as this?” “You never had his cooking as we did, Natalya.” Stasya supplies. “He had already stopped cooking when you joined the family. You can't understand.” “If you say so. Though I must wonder why little brother was selected for this. Surely it is still in use here?” The owner nods. “He made sure copies were made before he passed. We never did find his original, but we always just figured it was lost.” He looks at the box, then back up at you. “You must be pretty into cooking, huh?” “Our brother is a talented cook.” Stasya says. “I am not surprised that was left for him.” “We'll have to compare it to our copies, some day.” The owner says, looking over his shoulder as your food arrives. “But I'm not gonna interrupt your dinner. Just glad we could give that to you.” He says, turning to let the server past. “You enjoy the meal.” You nod. Your sisters wait for the crowd of staff to disperse before saying anything else. “So, Morgan. Is the chocolate cake in there?” Rebecca asks. “You're gonna make that first, aren't you?” I haven't given it any thought. What do you think? Of course. I miss it as much as everyone else does.
>>3575739>[X] Of course. I miss it as much as everyone else does.
>>3575739>[x] Of course. I miss it as much as everyone else does.I feel like this calls for a family reunion!
>>3575739> Of course. I miss it as much as everyone else does.
>>3575739>Of course. I miss it as much as everyone else does.
>>3575739>[x] Of course. I miss it as much as everyone else does.I can totally see Kyou and Merlin getting into an argument over the last piece.
>>3575739>[X] Of course. I miss it as much as everyone else does.Morgan's doomed now. There's no way Kyou and Merlin will let him escape his lewd fate...
>>3575763Just as long as no chairs need cleaning.
>>3575739>[x] Of course. I miss it as much as everyone else does. It's insulting that Rebecca even has to ask! Also, Morgan was planning on baking a cake for Merlin after she got out of surgery.
[x] Of course. I miss it as much as everyone else does. “Of course” You say, frowning over at your sister. “I miss it as much as everyone else does.” “I bet the first piece goes to Aunt Merlin.” Rebecca says, confidently. “Like, he's gonna go back to the dorms, make it tonight, and have it waiting for her first thing tomorrow morning.” “Enough.” Stasya says. “There will be no more discussion of our brother's relationship, romantic or otherwise, with Samantha.” Had it been anyone else- save for maybe Rachel, who even the quints tend to fear- you're sure it would have led to a fight of some kind. Rebecca- like most of her sisters- has a hell of a temper, and while most of the time she'd rather be left alone, if she feels like she can't get away from a situation- or simply doesn't want to- she can turn vicious, fast. But Stasya- backed, in this case, by Natalya- is a whole different level on the charts for her. For the most part, even you don't really risk going against them when they say something, even though, of all the Bishop children, you probably have the best chance of getting away with it. There's a very brief staring match- One that Stasya approaches the same as she always does. It isn't till Rebecca looks away that Stasya turns to look at you. “I look forward to trying it again.” She says. You nod. “I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to make it.” You say. “Aunt M and Kyou should be out tomorrow, and I can't see them not wanting to start working on the fighter as soon as they're clear of the hospital.” “Aunt Samantha, maybe.” Natalya says. “I am told, however, that implant plugs can make witches lethargic while they adapt to them. Kyou may wish to sleep and rest before she engages in any activity with the aircraft.” You shrug. “Maybe, but I can't see it. She loves that jet as much as Auntie M does.” “I had wondered at her reasoning.” Stasya comments. “It's unusual for a witch to want to fly an aircraft like that. Most prefer strikers.” “You would have too, if you'd have flown them.” Rebecca says, still sulking a bit. “I did.” Stasya reminds her, maybe a touch coldly. “I was a fighter pilot before I flew strikers, but I operated strikers during my time at academy, the same as any other witch. I chose to return to fighters afterwards.” The statement ends the ongoing conversation- you eat in relative silence, tolerating Rebecca stealing fries from your plate after she's finished her own- it's basically normal, at this point, and you've long since learned to tolerate it. She's far from the only sister of yours that does it, of course- in fact, almost all of them do, except for Cass. But for the one thing, she'd be the easiest of your sisters to get along with- she already almost is, honestly. 1/2
“So what are you doing tomorrow anyway?” Lindsey asks as you finish your food, or, at least, the portion you expect to get. Most of your fries ended up being eaten by Rebecca, but you got a few. You shrug. “I'm not sure, yet. I have to report in the morning, but I don't have a backseater and I don't have anything I'm aware of I have to do.” “You'll either be assisting with your aircraft or told to wait for Samantha or your witch.” Stasya says. “You're more or less useless without them.” “Oh, thanks.” you say, and get a thin smile in return. “The most you could be asked to do is assist the fabrication and installation team with your aircraft, and you would only likely get in the way by attempting to do so.” She says. “More likely you'll be ordered to sit in operations and observe the marine pilot's flights.” “What about us?” Lindsey asks. “If we asked for his help with the cadets?” Stasya laughs. “How is a pilot going to help witches teach cadets how to operate full power strikers?” She asks. “If you have a matron that wants to observe our brother may be asked to pilot a trainer jet, but even that's unlikely.” You shrug. “No idea.” “So where are you staying, anyway?” Rebecca asks Natalya. “I mean, we're both in quarters, and Stasya is, too, right?” Stasya nods. “Ok, so where are you staying, nat? You can sleep on our couch if you need to.” “I will be staying with Morgan.” Natalya says simply. “Did you ask?” Lindsey says. “Why would I?” Natalya responds. “He has never told me I could not stay with him before. I see no reason to waste time when the situation now is no different.” “So you didn't ask. Morgan, you want us to take the freeloader tonight? Have a night to yourself again?” Lindsey asks. “We've got room for her.” It's fine, She can stay with me for the night. You know, I don't think I'd mind a night alone. Would you?
And that's going to be it for the night! We'll be running tomorrow as a make-up day for last night, don't forget! I'll be around a little while to answer questions or comments- I saw a couple I wanted to respond to earlier, but was pretty busy. Till tomorrow though, gents, cheers!

He does not sweep people away like the river, nor trap and consume as fire, or torment and pursue like wind. The mountain does not move. The mountain does not seek or concern itself. Instead others look to the mountain. They see the majesty and become enthralled. Some desire nothing more than to challenge themselves on it. Others, in turn, will argue the mountain is challenging them. Others wish the mountain to be theirs, the treasure within theirs to take. [x] It's fine, She can stay with me for the night. You shake your head. “It's fine.” You say. “She can stay with me for the night.” Natalya nods, as if she expected that the entire time. “See? Asking is merely wasting time.” She says. “How long are you staying down here, anyway?” Rebecca asks her. “Just for a couple days?” “Only tonight.” Natalya clarifies. “I will be leaving early tomorrow.” “Already?” Lindsey asks, and Natalya nods. “I have other tasks, and only stopped here to check in on our brother.” She says. “And tell him what I knew of his witch.” “And now that you've done that, it's time to get going again?” Rebecca asks, and Natalya nods again. “Yes.” You stay seated for a while after you're done eating, eventually bidding your sisters goodbye- Lindsey, Stasya, and Rebecca are all headed back to their own beds for the night, while Natalya and you return to Miramar. You're in just before curfew, earning a raised eyebrow from the marine on duty, but no rebuke. “That wasn't too bad.” You say to Natalya as you walk back into your quarters, noting it's a bit cold in here- the air conditioner was set rather lower than you like. “It can be enjoyable to catch up with our siblings.” She says, removing her shoes and setting them by the door. “But sometimes they do take things too far. I trust they did not bother you much with their insistence on discussing our aunt?” You shake your head. “If it's not her, it's Cass.” You say with a smile. “I think they're more invested in who I'm seeing than I am.” “It should be no surprise to you that they are.” She says. “They were taught the same things as you were about the family's talent, but only you can potentially pass it along to another witch. They cannot.” You shrug. “Of course. Maman made sure I was well aware.” You say. “Most of them expect you to take an arrangement like father's.” She says, offhandedly. “It is becoming less uncommon, as these things go.” “Nat I don't even want to think about that right now.” You respond. “Drink?” “Water.” She answers. “I will not bother you with it. I was merely attempting to explain their stance.” “I appreciate it.” You say, handing her a bottle of water from the fridge and sitting down on the other end of the couch as she turns on the TV. Ask her where she's headed, if she can talk about it. Ask her how she's been- you don't get to talk to her too often.

>>3577699> Ask her how she's been- you don't get to talk to her too often.
Ghost, I'm sure this has been answered before but I'm curious to what the other Bishop brothers are doing.
>>3577746Well Jake is still driving around Germany because the war never ended for him. Maus and Ghost need to collab to write an ending for that bullshit. And if I remember right, Rex and Ghost got married and had twin boys. Ones a football player and ones a SpecOps operator.
>>3577750I recall Jake got married to that German tank witch, the White Tiger?
Ask her how she's been- you don't get to talk to her too often. “So how have you been, nat?” You ask. “Haven't gotten to talk in a while.” “I have been well.” She responds. “Father's house is much quieter without all our sisters there, and work has been limited enough that I have been able to be there much of the time.”“Are the moms still driving dad slowly crazy?” You ask with a smile. It's a joke, at best- Frank's relationship with the three witches has proven long stable and incredibly peaceful, by every standard of measure you're aware of. Indeed, theirs has been a model relationship enough that it sparked a small wave of nontraditional marriages- while they're still rare, they're not entirely unknown, either. Natalya shakes her head. “They never have, other than Katya.” She responds. “And your mother, of course. There is some feeling that she would be part of the family, but for an inability to share.” “I doubt it.” You say. “Maman just didn't want to get too tied down. She likes having choices. That's all.” “Regardless of the reason, they were well when I last saw them. Katya is home for now, and there is discussion that Tabitha may make this her last cruise before retirement.” You nod- Anastasia had mentioned as much. “What about you?” Natalya shrugs. “What is there to tell you? I remain living with them, and continue to contract for the federal government as they request.” “No new boys in your life?” You ask with a smile, and she fixes you with a short stare. “There aren't and never will be.” She responds. “You know this.”You chuckle. “Be easy, Nat. It's just a bit of what you always give me about auntie M.” “The difference is I have never been interested in a relationship of the sort.” She points out. “You claim the same thing but your attraction to her is obvious to anyone who sees you together. How do you plan to hide it from Kyou? The very nature of the MIU precludes that.” You shrug. “Cross that bridge if and when it comes up.” “It will. I suggest being open about it. While I doubt an imperial princess will agree to a situation like fathers, she may if she feels she is the alpha of the group.” “Yeah, and she'll commit political suicide.” You point out. “Let's not worry about it now.” “As you wish.” Natalya says. “Are you prepared for your deck tour?” I just wish we had more time here to get used to the aircraft. Leaning so heavily on the AI seems sketchy Looking forward to it, yeah. Be good to start get carrier experience in the drake.

[x] Looking forward to it, yeah. Be good to start get carrier experience in the drake. . You nod. “I'm looking forward to it. It'll be good to start getting carrier experience in the drake.” She smiles, one of her faint, almost undetectable smiles. “I had assumed you would say as much.” She says. “You are like father in many ways.” You shrug. “I mean, it's hard to not be a little excited.” You point out. “I get a chance to visit every carrier at sea, plus some of the IJN's, and spend a week aboard each doing constant flight operations?” You smile. “Even you might get a little excited, I think.” “Perhaps. It is hard to say, I have never had a desire to fly jets the same as you or father.” She says with a shrug. “I find my own work to be challenging and exciting enough.” She pauses. “Of course, I would, as I was quite literally made to do it.” You shrug. “If you listen to dad, the thread of everyone's fate is determined when they're born. So it's not like you're any different if that's the case.” “If you believe so.” Natalya says. “It does not matter to me, and never has, you know. I am what I am, and I am fortunate enough to have a family that has long since accepted me.” She pauses, then yawns. “I am getting quite tired.” She says, standing up. “Do you plan to be up long?” You shake your head, and she nods. “I suspected not. Do you wish to sleep out here?” You shrug. “Whichever you want.” You say. “I'm just as comfortable on the couch as not.” She shakes her head. “Better that you sleep in your own bed.” She says. “I am sure aunt Samantha used it while she was here, and I am better prepared in case of intruders.” You smile wryly at that. “Are you though, big sister?” You ask. She pauses, then nods. “Yes, if marginally. You will sleep in your room, I will remain out here. I may shower before I sleep, however.” You stand up, hugging her and turning back to your room, closing the door without latching it. Knowing Natalya, there's a 50/50 chance she'll migrate to the same bed as you- one of the oddities of her has always been her need to sleep close to someone when she can- almost like a child, honestly. There's nothing about it, of course- she'll do the same to any of your sisters as readily as you, save for maybe Stasya- and, while you were originally leery of it, Frank eventually explained it to you. It still took time to adjust to, but these days it is what it is- a human contact thing for her. You're almost asleep when you see the light under the bathroom door come on and hear the shower come on- and you're long asleep when Natalya exits and crawls onto the sheets next to you, pulling your poncho line up over herself and going to sleep next to you.
And that's it for the thread! So, I may be going back to school. (Again. for round 3), either to finish up my machining degree or maybe go into HVAC or something along those lines. Not sure yet, but if I do, it'll probably mean we can continue as we've been going (Maybe starting earlier and then stopping earlier for school). We'll see how it shakes out, of course, but I'm strongly considering it. I do think not at least completing my associate was a mistake. Anyway, I think that's about it for news. I'll hang around for questions or comment as usual, but otherwise, till next week gents, cheers!
>>3578100Cheers mate! Thanks for the run!

>>3578117As strange as it is to say it: I don't actually know! Rex was more Merc's character than mine, and since I didn't plan on including him heavily here, I haven't asked what he was up to. Ditto Jake- I never asked Maus what he figured he was up to, all this time later.
>>3578308Well, as mentioned above, Rex married Ghost and they have twin sons. As for Jake, I was being kinda cheeky and sorta implied he may have hooked up with Hessler, but I deliberately left if vague since what happens to him is ultimately Maus' call.
>>3578454I don't think Maus really has any intention of finishing it, so it's kind of a loose thread. I'd assume that he spent the rest of the war cooling his heels in Germany until Hessler got transfered there.

Hey guys, just wanted to post a fst update for everyone, we're postponing till tomorrow. I'm gearing up to go back and finish my machining degree, but, as you might expect, there's some silliness owing to how I left that I have to get sorted tonight so I can hand in paperwork tomorrow. Sorry about the short notice, we'll run thurs-fri-sat to make up for it.
>>3587262Whoops it ate the rest of my post. Anyway these are time fused airburst rounds. I can't find any reference to shells smaller than 40mm with proximity fuses but the effect on the target is much the same.
Ok guys, sorry for the late start... and missing yesterday. I'm headed back to school to finish out my degree which is cool, I legit didn't think I'd get the chance to do that, but at the same time it's gonna be a pain in the butt getting squared away, haha. that's really all the news for today, so I'll stop being boring haha!=============================================================================Predictably, Natalya was long gone by the time your alarm went off. You were able to get up, go on your morning run with one of the duty marines from the desk downstairs and even shower before your phone rang in the middle of frying up some eggs. Answering it, it was the hospital- informing you that your witch was going to be released into your care at oh eight, and you needed to be there to sign for her. That's at least eight hours early, by your count, but it's not really a huge surprise. It's no great secret among witches that healing another witch is much easier than healing someone without the gift- and Kyou certainly has it. She's not cleared for flight- and won't be without a trip to the flight surgeon- but that doesn't preclude ground work. And you can't imagine her not wanting to do preliminary ground work today- possibly even the first MIU link. That said, you doubt Merlin will want to miss that one, and if she's said as much you'll be waiting for her to be released as well. It doesn't actually leave you with too much time to get changed into your khakis and get down to the hospital, riding in the passenger seat as a marine lance corporal, similarly dressed in his service uniform, drives. He doesn't talk much, but he's got a combat action ribbon, which indicates he's been in at least long enough to have done a tour in Afghanistan. At the hospital, you're surprised to find that there's no imperial guardsmen around- which means that Kyou's family can't be around. Kyou herself is dressed in a duty uniform, and though she doesn't look it, you can tell she's still sitting out the last bit of the painkillers in her system. Still, her grin looks to about split her face when she sees you- and she's almost visibly having to restrain her excitement. You're responsible for her for the rest of the day, which isn't that big of a deal everything considered- it just means you can't leave her alone outside of quarters, but that's not like that's an issue anyway- odds are, You're going to be spending all day near the fighter anyway. Still, she contains herself pretty well on the drive back to the base- the smile doesn't really widen till after the marine's walked inside “Have they started work on our fighter?” She asks. “I tried calling the chief, but she didn't pick up. Hohiro refused to talk about it, and only mentioned he'd met your sister when he went aboard.” He met Cass? Mon dieu... Work's started on the jet, if you want to go see it, yeah.

Ok, votes called! sorry, got called away for a couple minutes.
[x] He met Cass? Mon dieu...You blink. “He met Cass? Mon Dieu...” You say, horrified a bit. Cass's particular behavior around you doesn't really appear around other people- around them, she's a lot more energetic and friendly- and more than a little willing to speak her mind. Of course, you also know while she won't ever step out of line with you, she'll go to great lengths to be able to be around you when she can- and getting thrown off the Kaga isn't exactly the kiss of death for her it might be for another witch. Kyou giggles. “He finds her fascinating.” She says. That's a bit of a surprise. “Fascinating?” She nods. “He didn't speak of her much, only that she was fascinating and he intended to invite her to dine with him this evening aboard ship.” You blink again. “He what?” Kyou nods, then looks around and giggles again when she sees that you're still alone. “I think he is interested, but is reluctant to admit it.” That's... unexpected, to say the least. “Did he talk about meeting her?” She shakes her head. “No, but I can see father and mother now if he admits attraction to her.” She giggles again. “Oh my.” There's no way Cass would go for it. Well, best of luck to him, I guess. Shall we go see if the chief needs us?

[x] Well, best of luck to him, I guess. Shall we go see if the chief needs us?“Well, best of luck to him, I guess.” You say, actually meaning it a lot more than you think you sound like you do. Anyone chasing Cass is going to need no small amount of luck, in your estimation- while, as you've said, she's never going to go any further than she already does, she's also not real open to the possibility of that kind of relationship with anyone else, either. “Shall we go see if the chief needs us?” Her smile, if anything, gets wider. “Oh, yes!” She says, excitedly- her familiar appearing as if summoned by her excitement, the huge ears perked up and the gigantic tail swishing back and forth through the air. “I have been waiting for this since I woke up from surgery!” You nod, a slight smile creeping onto your lips as well- her excitement is a little infectious, even if you're not flying today. The two of you walk through admin and head to the flight line- of course, if you do plan to assist, you'll have to change, but you suspect the chief is going to want to see Kyou just as much as Kyou wants to see the plane. They've moved the fighter back into the hangar, and are working on the VLS cells as you approach- the six massive cells, each designed to be installed in the Littoral combat ships, sitting on pallets while the crew discusses installation. The cannons have already been changed, you note- the longer barrels of the 40mm weapons housed in fairings below the wing root. You can see a slight bulge behind them as well- probably where the cannon itself is located. The wag of Kyou's tail gets a bit more pronounced as she approaches the fighter. The chief, standing off to one side, looks over and nods at you, walking over and shooting a glance at Kyou as she does so. “Mornin, sir.” She says. “I see our girl's still high as a kite.” You nod. “A bit. If she gets in the way, let me know.” “You signed for her?” The woman asks, and you nod. She laughs. “Well, have fun with that sir. First thing she wanted to do is come over here, huh?” You nod again. “Jus tellin herself no one can take it from her now, I bet.” 1/2
“Probably.” You respond. “Well, we got the forties in, no problem.” the chief says, motioning for you to follow her as she walks over to the aircraft. “They've got a bit more ammo than one of the twenty-fives would have individually, and you've got a longer overall firing time, but your burst number is down pretty heavily. Admiral Wells said you should be ok just the same, but it's something to keep in mind. We're putting those big bastards in today-” She gestures to the VLS cells. “And that's gonna be an all-day thing. We're just waiting for the fabrication team to get in.”“Will you need assistance?” Kyou asks, approaching from around the nose gear as she completes her short tour. The chief shrugs. “If you feel up to it ma'am.” She says. “We've got the chief maintenance and test witch over from the striker shop if you're still too loopy.” The chief pauses. “Which, speaking freely, ma'am, ya kinda look like you are.” Kyou nods. “I do have difficulty with narcotics.” She admits. “But I am fit to interface with the aircraft, if that's necessary.” The chief shakes her head. “Not for this, no ma'am.” She responds. “We just gotta throw an initial charge in the VLS suspension circuit and make sure it works the way it's supposed to before we go to install it. If it does, Matty will top it up and we'll install the gear. Admiral Wells wanted us to wait before you did initial hookup though, she had some more work she wanted to knock out with the ground cart beforehand.” When will that be? We can let Kyou sober up a bit. What can we do until then?

Ok, votes called. This will be the last for the night, but we'll be starting early Saturday to make up for the slow start this week!
[x] When will that be? We can let Kyou sober up a bit. “When will that be?” You ask. “We can let Kyou sober up a bit.” “That sounds like a good idea.” The chief says with a laugh. “Be a damn mess if we did first link with her still on painkillers. Admiral Wells said she expected to be out around afternoon chow, so probably an hour or two after that. I'll call you when she shows up.” You nod. “Sounds good, thanks chief.” She laughs. “All good, sir. Just get our girl some good coffee, hey?” She says, laughing again as she turns around, heading back over to the cluster of ground crew waiting near the VLS cells. “Coffee does sound good right now.” Kyou admits. “Or perhaps those eggs you prepared yesterday?” “Eggs woodhouse?” You ask, blinking. “You liked those?” She nods. “They were incredibly rich, but I did enjoy them.” You shrug- other than the Iberico ham- which is far too expensive to cook with other than very, very occasionally- you've still got everything to make the eggs. “I can, if you want.” She nods again. “It will have to wait until after we meet with my family again, but I would like that very much.” “Where are we meeting them?” “On post, but they will contact me.” Kyou says. “Dey already be on de way.” Your mother says, approaching from behind you. You see Kyou jump in surprise and spin to face her. You take a far more measured approach, turning in place and nodding to your mother- dressed, you note, in a professional business outfit, complete with a pencil skirt and glasses that, you know, are entirely cosmetic. “Maman.” You greet her. “This isn't exactly the best time.” You say in French- reasonably sure Kyou doesn't speak the language. Given the look she gives you, either she doesn't- or she's willing to play along. You mother smiles. “I disagree. This is the best time. No one tells anything but the worst lies when they're still flying on painkillers.” She says, responding in French as well. You frown. “You plan to interrogate her?” 1/2
Maman laughs. “No, just introduce myself. Maybe in Japanese?” You sigh, but nod. “Oui, maman.” You say. “Kyou, this is my mother, Brigitte Laroux. Maman, this is-” You say, switching languages, as suggested, the Japanese. “The imperial princess Kyou, oui.” Maman says, cutting you off in English. She did that on purpose, of course- you're even willing to guess at the reasoning. “Sorry it take dis long to meet de witch goan be flyin wid my boy, oui.” She says. Kyou nods. “I understand. It was indicated to me you remain quite busy, despite your retirement from active service.” She says. “Oui. I be around de base some today, but de guard get a bit nervous wid me aroun ya famile, oui.” She says with a smile- one of the ones that shows a bit too much tooth and never quite reaches her eyes. You're told it's intimidating as all hell- and it is, a bit, even to you. To her credit, Kyou doesn't flinch- or respond much at all, simply nodding. “They are nervous enough with Morgan being my sole companion.” Kyou says. “I can only imagine they would be even more so with the mother of night that close.” Maman nods. “Oui. We be talkin later, I think. I be havin a few tings to do today, oui, but I stop by befoah de evening out. Don't cook for me non.” She pivots and leaves almost as quickly as she appeared- Kyou waits almost a full minute before turning to you. “Is your mother always that intimidating?” She asks. She was trying to make an impression. Don't let it get to you. She can be. She's not that bad once you get to know her.

>>3589864> She can be. She's not that bad once you get to know her."Listen, she's retired and this is how she gets her jollies now. Just start talking in ominous tones about 'prophesy children' and you'll be fine."
>>3589856>>3590991I’m backing this. Because it’s hilarious.
[x] She can be. She's not that bad once you get to know her. “She can be.” You say with a nod, reasonably sure your mother has left earshot. “She's not that bad once you get to know her.” If it's done one thing, it looks like your mom's sudden appearance- and similarly abrupt disappearance- has at least momentarily cleared the vague painkiller haze from Kyou's head. It starts re-asserting itself on the walk back to operations- and by the time you've caught a lift back to quarters, she's giggling like a schoolgirl again. “I made it.” She admits to you, in Japanese, as you enter your quarters. “No one can take it away now. I'm plugged, they can't pull me out of the program.” You nod. “No, but that didn't look like it was going to be an issue anyway.” You point out. She shakes her head, flopping out on the couch and pulling her t ail around to her chest. “No,” She giggles. “But now there's nothing they can do! I- “ She pause. “We made it. The wait for this afternoon is going to take forever!” You nod, pulling off your khaki shirt and stepping into the kitchen- you don't want to get it dirty. “So how did it go in the hospital anyway?” 1/2
You hear her laugh. “My mother is quite insistent she wants grandchildren.” She states- you freeze momentarily. “I told her we would work on it, but made no promises about the timeframe.”You go back to cooking, remembering what Natalya said- average time on that one is about two years. You've heard- both formally, in the pipeline, and informally, through the rumor mill- that most kids of wyvern crews end up spending a lot of time with their relatives. While it's not a life you're that unfamiliar with- you did spend more than a little time at the Bishop house while maman was out of country- it's also not something you're sure you'd be comfortable perpetuating. Of course, that said, it's also different, in your specific case- you're reasonably sure that Kyou's family- and, by the sounds of it, her mother- will be more than willing to look after any children. You shove the thought aside- not a concern for now, you think. “My sister was a brat, of course.” She continues. “But that is to be expected. Perhaps she will mature some when she has an instructor-witch's boot planted firmly on her imperial backside for refusing some particularly disgusting army training. I am told tank witches are required to endure the same treatment as infantry recruits before they graduate to strikers.” “She's going army?” You ask. Kyou giggles. “Of course! It is the branch of choice for her reactionary nationalist friends. I am sure she will change her mind when she is required to crawl through mud and animal entrails at night. It is also a pointed commentary on my choice to enter the navy and then join the wyvern program. Which reminds me,” She says, and you see her head pop up over the back of the couch as she sits up to look over at you. “Hohiro wished me to extend his thanks for showing him our aircraft. He says he looks forward to seeing it again when we visit the Kaga during our deck tour.” He's going to be aboard that long? That's months away. Glad we got the chance to see it. Too bad we couldn't get close for a real walk around though.

>>3591967>[x] He's going to be aboard that long? That's months away.more than enough time for Cass to get him
>>3592062We should encourage but warn him, when next we meet. Make it clear that we approve of the idea, but that if he treats her badly, well, he knows full well that we're the Mother of Night's son.
>>3592155I agree with the feeling, but let's be honest. Anything we can add is probably redundant compared to what Cass and her sisters can dish out.
>>3592192It's mostly a symbolic gesture. It strikes me that Cass doesn't trust easily. Her thing for Morgan almost seems as much BECAUSE Morgan will never reciprocate, never push her to do things she's not ready for. He's a "safe" crush, like a random movie star. The fact that they seem to be hitting it off means she's finally working up the courage to take a chance on a real guy, and if he hurts her bad, it could send her into full retreat on that front.
[x] He's going to be aboard that long? That's months away.“He's going to be aboard that long?” You ask, surprised. “That's months away. I though he was just returning home?” Kyou giggles again. “Of course. But while he is able to use the ship as transportation in such a manner, he is not able to alter it's original course, which still has port calls in Mexico, Australia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Taiwan. He will be aboard for several months still. Father claims it is good that he enjoys it as much as he does, because otherwise the military wouldn't support him in the future.” You nod, understanding. He can't serve, despite his desire to, but by subjecting himself to the same rules- more or less- he earns at least a little respect. “So we won't be seeing him again?” You ask. She shakes her head. “Most likely not.” She says, then giggles again. “Of course, one cannot be sure. He often attempts to sneak flights aboard any aircraft with a pilot willing to take him up, and there is a training squadron aboard the Kaga right now. He is also allowed to ride in helicopters usually, and we may see him if there are any further flights from the Kaga here.” You nod. “And your parents?” “Mother and my sister are accompanying my father to Washington, where they will stay as guests of the ambassador for some time.” She says. “They have not already left, but will soon.” “Seems sudden.” You point out. She nods. “Had it not been for the requisite surgery, I do not think they would have visited me before we were considered operational. However, because of it, they felt it necessary.” “So it all went well.” She nods again, then giggles a bit, standing up to walk over to one of the stools near the kitchen. “Father was initially hesitant, and was waiting for you to leave before he strongly questioned me about this decision. I believe he is only accepting it because of Aunt Katsumi and the prestigious nature of the posting.” You set the plated eggs down in front of her, handing her a fork. “Of course,” She offers. “Both of my parents are of mixed feelings about you.” How so? I expected as much.

>>3592279>[X] How so?Can't exactly blame them when the main examples of our pedigree is an ace pilot that practically kills himself to pull insane shit behind the stick, and Maman.
>>3592423>an ace pilot that quite literally kills himself to pull insane shit behind the stickftfyBut actually that could be part of it. Kyou is aggressive. Her family MUST know this. And if they think we're like Fronk they may well fear that we're going to get their little girl killed doing some crazy LOLPILOT shit. They also may be concerned about Morgan trying to be like dad and do the harem thing.
[x] How so?“How so?” You ask, curious. You have your suspicions, of course- another imperial princess marrying another Bishop is bound to raise eyebrows- especially if Hohiro and Cass hit if off- but at the same time, you're also well aware that by simple fact that you are who you are, it'll make the sale easier to the Japanese public. “It's another member of the imperial family marrying another foreigner.” She says, simply. “That you're a Bishop and have performed so well to this point mollifies them, some.” “Some?” you ask. She nods. “Some. You are still a foreign commoner, born out of wedlock, even, and despite our nation's shared alliance and my- our- aunts there will be questions asked.” You nod. “I see. So they're not worried about me being some long-run assassin or something?” She looks at you for a moment, then giggles. “Of course not. They're well aware that, were that the goal, I would probably already be dead.” You shrug, setting down a glass of orange juice in front of her. “Either way. They accept it as it is.” She says. “And of course, as you know, mother, at least, is anxious for grandchildren.” You nod. “Oui, I gathered that.” Kyou shrugs. “I won't press the issue.” She says with a giggle. “But I think it may be best to wait for several months before we start the attempt.” I agree, yeah. I have no opinion on the matter.

It is not that I find the possibility distasteful, but I do not think children are a good idea at this time with the deployment pace we are expecting.” She pauses. “I explained as much to mother, but she seemed to be of the opinion that perhaps I would change my mind once we had made an attempt.” She shrugs. “I will not say she is wrong, but I cannot see how she is right.” You nod again. “Ah, these are excellent. Where did you learn how to make them?” She asks, having plowed through about half the plate already. You don't quite have the heart to tell her they're off of a cartoon- and one that you suspect never intended for them to actually ever be made. “Cooking show.” You say- not entirely a lie, but close. You suspect she's not going to remember anyway though. She nods. “I see. I must admit, I am starting to wonder how I should be so lucky that you should be as talented as you are in the fields of interest you have and that I should be partnered with you.” She pushes the cleaned plate away and you take it, rinsing it off before setting it in the sink- you'll handle it later, probably. “Ah. I feel as if I need a nap after that.” She says- which is exactly what you expected. She yawns and stands up. “I will be in my bedroom, should you need me.” You watch her as she walks into her room, closing the door even as she's reaching up to pull off her shirt. You wait another minute before you hear, faintly, snoring through the door and nod to yourself- she's out like a light. While they were her idea, you know that the eggs are rich and heavy enough to knock just about anyone out- they're almost as bad as the luther, for that. When she wakes up, she should be mostly cleared up, you think. Still, you can't exactly leave the room without her- you did sign for her after all- and you have a bit of spare time suddenly. There's a few books calling your name from their place on your kindle, and of course there's always a chance at actually getting to play a few games that have been sitting in your steam library for the last several months. Of course, you could also start preparing the cake- your aunt is out today, afterall, and you're absolutely certain she'll be over here again tonight. [x] I should start in on that cake. You stand in the kitchen for a minute, thinking, before heading back into your room and retrieving santa's cookbook. It's funny, you think- you've now inherited two separate cooking legacies from people unrelated to you. You shrug the thought aside, grabbing your apron and flipping through the notebook to find the page with the cake on it. It's labeled simply “Grandpa's cake”- indicating the age of the recipe a bit more. It's honestly fairly simple, as far as it goes. It doesn't call for anything particularly unusual- notes in the margin indicate that you can add a hint of hot peppers to it, but normally the man himself avoided that, and that orange zest in very small quantities wasn't bad, either. You decide to skip it- maybe if you had more practice with the recipe, you'd feel more comfortable with that, but for now you'll keep it plain. As simple as the recipe is, it's almost stressful, in a way. Not in making it- it's in the oven fairly quickly after you begin mixing the ingredients. You'll still have to make the frosting- the recipe calls explicitly for scratch-made- but even that doesn't look all that difficult, everything told. No, the problem is in what you know other people expect it to be. Santa's cake was- is- legendary. You're painfully aware, the entire time you're making it, of what your aunt will expect from it, and you can't disappoint her. The cake has to cook for a while, though you lose track of time as you prepare the frosting and the rest of the cake, and are slightly surprised to see Kyou emerge from her room, clad in an oversized T-shirt and little else, it appears. She yawns and stretches, and nods to you. Her eyes are clear, sharp, and focused- clear of the influence of the painkillers. She smiles lightly, reaching back with one hand to rub the back of her neck. “Good nap?” You ask, and she nods, then blushes a bit. “About the discussion we had earlier.” she says. “I- that is. I apologize.” No need to. It's uncomfortable but is something we needed to discuss. It's forgotten. Don't worry about it.

[x] No need to. It's uncomfortable but is something we needed to discuss. You shake your head. “No need to.” You say. “It's uncomfortable, but it's something we needed to discuss.” Kyou nods with gratitude. “I fear I will be rather embarrassed by my conduct regardless, but I appreciate your pragmatism on the matter.” She says. Then pauses. “I see you are cooking, but I was curious if you'd heard from your aunt regarding our first MIU link?” You shake your head, pulling your cell phone out again to double check- nothing yet. “I see.” She says, sounding a little disappointed. “I had hoped she would have contacted you by the time my nap was over.” You shrug- given the time, you're sure she's probably in the check-out process, but probably not quite out of the hospital yet. “I hate to ask for further favors, I feel as if my ability to do so is being used up, but do you think we can return to the aircraft now that I am not under the influence of narcotic painkillers?” You look over at the cake timer, noting that it's still got about twenty minutes. “I don't want the cake to burn.” You point out. “Is that what that smell is?” She asks. “Under normal circumstances, I would attempt to argue, but having tried your cooking, I believe it would be foolish to not allow you to finish the cake. After that, perhaps?” Yeah, worst case we can make ourselves useful with the crew. We really ought to wait for Merlin to call.
>>3595180>[x] Yeah, worst case we can make ourselves useful with the crew.So what's the chances that merlin goes to our room, finds the cake sitting there, and eats all of it before we get back?

[x] We really ought to wait for Merlin to call. You hesitate- while you, too, want to go see the Wyvern, at the same time, you're aware that there's not much you can do, aside from getting in the way. It can be easy to forget that the ground crew is composed of trained specialists- training that neither you nor Kyou posses. Similarly, any technical work- especially anything involving the MIU or the flight systems- is going to virtually require Merlin's presence. “We really should wait for Merlin to call.” You say. “We'll just be underfoot otherwise.” Kyou looks a little disappointed at the response, but nods. “Yes, I suppose you're right.” She says, then smiles a little. “Waiting gets more difficult the closer the time gets.”You nod, understanding the sentiment. Your first MIU link was, of course, in a training aircraft, with an unplugged IP behind you. It's a little different for witches, you imagine- there's no intermediary step like there is as a pilot. Still, you remember how difficult it was to sleep the night before- and how hard sleep was afterwards, as well. The trainers are nowhere near as advanced as a wyvern, of course, and even the converted Wyvern As they use as two place type trainers- there's a grand total of six of those- aren't the same as the real deal. She pauses in the door to her room before crossing the floor to take a seat on one of the stools at the bar. “Is this another of your recipes?” She asks. You shake your head. “Not mine, this is the first time I've made it.” You say. “Ah.” She responds with a nod. “I look forward to trying it, then. While we wait, is there anything I can do to help? I am afraid I'm not a capable cook, but if there is anything simple I can help with, I would be willing to.” Not really, we're just waiting for it to bake, everything else is done. Well, I guess we can make something else, if you want. Ever hear of apple brown betty?

[x] Well, I guess we can make something else, if you want. Ever hear of apple brown betty?“Well,” You say, looking over at the stove- the timer's still showing about fifteen minutes, which is more than enough time to put together a dish of apple brown betty- which is also simple enough that it's a plenty good enough place to start. “I guess we can make something else. Ever hear of apple brown betty?” Kyou inches a bit closer, looking intrigued. “No.” She responds. “What is it?” “Well, come over here and I'll walk you through it.” You say, pulling a paring knife out of the drawer- It's one of the trashy ceramic ones you can find in the cookware section of any grocery store, but it's more than enough to slice up apples. Kyou takes to it well enough- though she's very clearly a bit of a novice at it- but pretty soon she's got a dozen apples sliced into about the right size. You let her handle most of the work- the recipe is simple enough, and very forgiving, to boot. You doesn't look sure about the cinnamon, but adds it as directed. She's just about done, just adding the bread crumbs, when your cell phone rings. She whips around at the sound, her eyes wide. “Is that-?” You nod as you pick up. “Aftahnoon, auntie.” You say. “Morgan.” Merlin says. “Are you and Kyou ready to come out to the flight line?” “Oui.” “Good. Get your flight gear and get out here. If it looks good enough, you'll take a flight out over the NTC.” She orders. “Oui auntie.” “I'll see you soon.” She says, and hangs up- she's distracted, you can tell, but so is Kyou- and her familiar is back out, again. “Was that her?” 1/2
You nod again. “flight gear.” You say, and Kyou smiles, dropping the paring knife to the counter, throwing her arms around you and squealing before letting go and running into her room to change- leaving the door open as she does so. You blink and shake your head, folding your apron and shooting a glance over at the cake time before walking into your room to change. Kyou's changed into her duty uniform by the time you emerge, waiting by the door with her bag in her hand. She looks expectantly at you as you make a point to walk into the kitchen and pull the cake out to cool. A short ride over to operations later, you pull your gear from the locker and are examining your helmet while Kyou is briefed on hers- prior to this, of course, she wore the same helmet as any other aviator. She turns it over in her hands as the tech goes over the control procedure- how it has to be signed in and out every time. She listens intently, but when she's done, she walks alongside you, looking distinctly less bothered by her flight suit than she was before. Merlin is standing with her team, discussing something, dressed in NWUs and looking every bit the commanding officer she is. She turns as one of her civilian team says something to her, nodding as you and Kyou both salute. “Morgan, Kyou.” She says. “Are you ready for this? The first time can be disorienting.” As ready as we can be. Of course ma'am.
>>3595825> Of course ma'am.
>>3595825>[X] Of course ma'am.

>>3595825>[X] Of course ma'am.Time for jets!
[x] Of course ma'am. You nod, noting the presence of uniformed officers- one a captain, the other a commander. They nod at you, though they don't say anything- it's Merlin that introduces them. “This is Captain Simms and Commander Erickson.” She says. “They're two of the psychologists assigned to the program, and they'll be monitoring you both with me from the ground.” You nod, as does Kyou- she looks a little more tense, now, and a lot more serious. “You'll also be encountering the AI for the first time.” Merlin warns, directing you to the rolling stairs that have been moved up next to the aircraft. “You'll be on ground power and oxygen the entire time, you won't be rolling at all.” You frown. “I thought if it went well we'd be flying?” She shakes her head. “No, that was my mistake. The VLS cells are in place, but we haven't done flightworthiness testing on them yet. We're going to do that when you're done here, so you'll be flying tomorrow if the Mental health team signs off.” You nod. “Ok, Kyou? Please go up first.” Merlin directs. “Get situated, but don't activate your uplink yet.” Kyou nods, starting up the stairs. Merlin watches her for a second before turning to you. “The first time can be a little... intense.” She warns. “Especially since it's effectively a three way link. Your fighter's AI is going to be aware now, and once it's had it's look at Kyou's mind, it's going to fully form it's personality.” She pauses. “I'd offer to join you, It might help, but I'm not sure it's the best idea.” We'll be fine, auntie. Why not?
>>3596192>[x] Why not?
>>3596192>[X] We'll be fine, auntie. It's lewd enough that the first time is a three-way, and Lewdest Aunt wants to make it a foursome...?

>>3596192> Why not?
[x] We'll be fine, auntie. “We'll be fine, auntie.” You say, a very slight grin creeping onto your face. “and I think maybe we should get to know Kyou before we go for a manage a trois, oui?”Your aunt blinks- blushes- and nods. You cock an eyebrow at the response- it would be easy to tease her some more about it, but you decide not to- if anything, it's ammunition for later. Not that your stock of such ammunition is low at all- your aunt makes for an easy target in that regard. “We talk about dis later, den, oui? I be havin cake for ya to try, too.” “C-cake?” She stutters, and you nod. “W-well that's good. Head on u-up.” She says- she's still blushing furiously, you note, but trying her dead level best to regain her bearing. Part of you wonders if the shrink saw that- and if they did, what they'd make of it. You head up the ladder, noting that Kyou's got her helmet on and plugged, but the uplink switch on her console is still set in the off position, and her hands are folded in her lap, her thumbs pressed together. She looks up at you briefly as you climb over the edge of the canopy and drop into the ejection seat. It's odd having to remind yourself that you don't need to do the pre-start checklist- honestly, you don't even need to secure the straps on the seat. Instead, you flip your helmet over in your hands and seat it down on your head, plugging the umbilical, noting the static as the intercom connects, and the brief breath of wind on your face as the inbuilt systems test the oxygen flow. You reach over to the throttle and hit the intercom toggle located under your ring finger. “Pilot's in.” You say. “Copy. Standby.” Merlin responds, and you sit, waiting. “Ok. Crew, you may activate the VDNI link.” You lean forward a bit and reach out, flipping the safety cover off the switch and hit the toggle.
That's it for the week guys! Haha!Sorry about the slow pace this week- this whole thing with school or work is kinda eating a lot of attention, and it's showing. I hope to have it sorted by next week, but I can't make any promises- there's a whole mess up where I basically have to wait till next summer to start back in, so i might pick up a full time gig till then, I don't rightly know yet. Anyway, gents, that's all from me. I'll be around a while to field questions or comments, as usual, but otherwise, gents, cheers!

>>3596431Thanks for the run Ghost!

Thanks for the rum Ghost. But also, DAMN YOU CLIFFHANGER!!!!!Oh well, I've got something to look forwards to next week.
>>3596425>“Ok. Crew, you may activate the VDNI link.”I thought they phased out VDNI for the MIU system? Or was it just the hardware in the crews' skulls that updated?
Archive up. Didn't fuck it up this time, since I'm home at my own computer.
>>3596494I'm pretty sure if Morgan offered straight up, Merlin would be too embarrassed to move, let alone speak.
>>3596431Thanks for the run
>>3596601Ghost was the mention of VDNI vs MIU intentional or unintentional?
>>3596601>inb4 Kyou gets so infatuated with Aunty Merlin that she pesters Morgan for threesomes
>>3598927Ghost DID say something about mild trait transfer, I think.
>>3598906Semi-intentional. VDNI and MIU are more or less used interchangeably in casual use- and in cases like this, the language was never updated with the hardware.
