Howdy all, and welcome to “A Song of Duty and Spite; House Reynold Quest”. Here we play as Ser Mervyn Reynold, a lowborn son of a bastard hedge knight who, through his skill at arms and a bit of luck, has married into the noble House Reynold of Ember Peak. He currently serves as Lady Elleanor Reynold’s sword shield, and in the murky depths of in-house politics he will attempt to rise high despite coming from such humble origins. These waters are treacherous however. Lady Elleanor has not forgotten her once betrothed, the late Reynard Reyne, and while she attempts to keep control of her house, her husband Lord Titus has the backing of Lord Tywin himself, and has a strong influence over the Reynold Military. The Mad King grows more and more erratic, and there are rumours that the relationship between Lord Tywin and King Aerys grow strained. Will you remain Lady Elleanors right hand, or will you strike out on your own in your pursuit of position and power? Let get stuck in and find out!!

Dramatis Personae:
>Ser Mervyn Reynold, 25, Our MC.
Ser Mervyn grew up the son of a bastard hedge knight who did not know his father and a blacksmiths daughter. After his mother passed at the age of 5, his father began travelling the westerlands to sell his sword to anyone who would hire him. Eventually, the man passed away to a pox when Mervyn was 17, but not before knighting his son. He than took his fathers horse and mule and travelled in the same way. Eventually, he heard of a tourney for a young maiden’s hand, he attended and won handily over many much nobler knights. He now serves the Lady of the House, Elleanor Reynold as her sworn shield.

>Alyssa Reynold, 17, Mervyn’s Wife
Alyssa is a pretty young girl who is currently 6 and a half months pregnant. She is driven and tenacious, if not impatient, and she has been reared to be a player in the game by her mother. While not considered beautiful as her elder sister might be, her red curls and sea green eyes certainly make her comely. She is gifted at weaving through the art of noble intrigue and has a knack for remembering heraldry and house history.

>Lord Titus Reynold, 46
Lord Titus was born Titus Lantell of Lannisport, and grew up to be a knight who swore his sword to the Lannisters. During the Reyne/Tarbeck Rebellion, he was commanded by Tywin Lannister to march with 300 men to confine the Lady Elleanor, then a maiden of 16 years, and prevent House Reynold from aiding the Reynes and Tarbecks in rebellion as a favour to her father, the late Lord Marqus. A relatively oafish man who cares not for the workings of his house, he is not without a degree of cunning and ultimately seeks to usurp his wife as the true head of the house.

>Lady Elleanor Reynold, 36
Lady Elleanor is a woman who remembers. Once betrothed to Ser Reynard Reyne, she endured losing both her father and betrothed in the span of a year at the age of 16, and was subsequently married off to a lowly knight of Lannisport. She endured the dishonour, even providing 6 children to her husband, all in the memory of her father and Reynard. She is the true power in Ember Peak, and seeks to retain control of her house by any means necessary.

--- 13/04/281 ---

You walked down a long subterranean hallway under the mountain as you headed towards the meeting that had been called by Lady Elleanor while your purse jingled healthily with the sound of coin. Whilst you had spent a considerable sum on new horses for yourself and your men, and had paid a ransom of your own to Ser Austin Osgrey, your newest knight, in order to get back your horse, the men you had defeated in turn had all ransomed both their respective horses and armour. Lord Andros had come first, and he had paid a high price, 40 gold dragons to be exact, to reclaim his gorgeous silver chased armour and similarly magnificent horse. The man had complimented you on your skill at arms, saying how he felt at ease knowing his only daughter was living in the same castle with such a capable warrior. Bilford Bettley had come next, and his more common suit of armour and steed had brought in a much more modest 13 gold dragons. The man was limping heavily after the beatings he had taken over the course of the tournament and was quick about the business of getting his equipment backing, riding off as soon as he was able. From shame or need to prove himself at another tournament you couldn’t say however.

Ser Louen Lannett was the last of the men to ransom back his equipment, a knight from one of the many knightly houses of Lannisport. He was the only man of the three who seemed to bear you ill will, something you imagined had to do with the rivalry between the various houses of that great city, all competing for their time in the sunshine. The fact your wife was half Lantell, and Tygon frequently wore their colours alongside those of House Reynold were surly factors in his hostility. But all the same, the houses of Lannisport were made wealthy by the trade, fishing and goldwork that made the city famous, and as such his armour was of a fine make, and his steed was capable. All in all, the number the two of you agreed upon was a healthy 18 gold dragons, bring the total of your winnings up to a healthy 71 dragons to line your purse with, and the comforting sound echoed off the wall with ever step. Having not ransomed your own armour was something you would need to address sharply, but that was a matter for the future. As it stood now, you were dressed in a handsome grey doublet, with a golden yellow bend running through it, a pair of plain brown hose and black leather boots, cut in the matter of a cavalryman, and you looked every bit the suave and charming knight that most knew you to be, and you toyed with the dirk on your hip idly as you walked.

When you finally entered the chamber you were seeking, you found it occupied with no less than three true lords and one lady, along with a few knights and other servants. Inside were Lady Elleanor and Lord Titus sitting across from one another, presenting a united front towards their assembled audience. You spy Ser Terrence standing on Lord Titus’ right, and you take your own spot on Lady Elleanors left. Looking towards the small group now you see both Lord Andros Brax in attendance, along with Lord Mathis Rowan and his son, the newmade Ser Mathew Rowan who sat beside the hier to Ember Peak himself, Tygon Reynold, who gives you a grin as he pushes the blonde hair out of his comely hazel eyes. Maester Aethan was in attendance, pulling on his links as was his fashion, along with Ser Devon Drake as the planning to incite a war over territory with the southernly Serrets of Silverhill began.

Lady Elleanor begins the meeting with a polite and delicate cough to gain the mens attention, and starts…

“Lord Mathis, cousin, I shall address you first as Goldengrove is the lynchpin of this plan. I would have you put a stranglehold on any ships or barges flying Serrett colours travelling south on the lesser Mander, whilst we shall stop them from unloading any material along the gold road to the north. It is my hope that while they have some fertile lands along the river, the lack of ability to get their silver to market will drive them to conflict, as will food shortages that plague the Westerlands during winter. We ourselves may be affected some, but with access to the gold road and my husbands’ connections in Lannisport will allow us to sustain ourselves far better than the Serretts.”

“With respect my Lady, this will disenfranchise us against the Serretts in a rather open manner, and Goldengrove depends on their silver as a source of wealth. Unless you were somehow able to promise us something as equally lucrative in return, I cannot bring my house into a financial slump to aid in your expansion.”

Lady Elleanor looks at him with a hard stare and raps her fingers lightly against the heavy wooden table, before glancing sharply to Lord Titus and continuing on.

“Rubies are worth more than silver to most, Mathis. Should you aid us in this, and we annex this land which will provide us the means to expand our mining operation, and said expansion could fund a run of rubies down the lesser Mander all the way to Goldengrove. In addition, there could be a lessening of tariffs and taxes on your own goods coming north to the Westerlands.”

Lord Mathis considers this thoughtfully, before tentatively agreeing on the grounds that the Rowans, nor any Rowan men, will be involved in any fighting, to which Lady Elleanor nods her head in agreement before turning her attention to Lord Andros, where talk turns to that of iron and Brax weapons and Titus takes over the conversation.
>>
“My lord” Lord Titus begins “we expect that it will take a few months of having their trade frozen before the Serretts will be sufficiently roused from Silverhill to take to war. Once they do, we will muster our banners and march south from Headwaters and do battle with them. With our superior weapons, and any potential military support you can offer, we should crush them in the field and have sufficient men to cement our claim by right of conquest. With Lord Tywin absent due to his duties as hand, and Ser Keven acting as his regent, we should face little repercussions from the Lannisters other than perhaps a warning to cease any further warring, but by then we will already have in our possession what we sought.”

The mention of Lord Tywins name brings a somber silence around the table, and the sober looks given by Lord Andros reminds you of how dangerous the game that was being played truly was. Talks continue on regarding potential battle, rewards and risks for nearly 3 hours before the remainder of the group is dismissed besides Lord Titus, Lady Elleanor, Ser Terrence, Tygon and yourself, where talk turns to that of a more personal note as Lord Titus suggests that Tygon and Joanna accompany the Lannisters back to Lannisport, if only to maintain appearances.

“Tygon may attend the Lannisters, but Joanna may absolutely not. I will not allow you to sneak her away to be married without my consent. And as if I would send her protected only by Lannisters. No Titus.”

“Who said anything about leaving her unprotected? I would send Ser Mervyn here accompany them, along with his Loyal Reins. If you can afford to spare them of course. I can think of no man more fitting to guard our lovely daughter than Ser Mervyn. And besides, the Farmans will be travelling the road alongside them. It could be a further chance for Joanna to become further acquainted with her two suitors.”

The look Elleanor gives Titus is a scathing, but begrudging, one, and her lips purse heavily as she stares at her husband and son, before finally landing on you, before she breathes heavily before agreeing.

“Ser Mervyn, you and your men will be armed and armoured the entire length of the trip, and you shall ensure that absolutely nothing happens to Joanna. Is this understood?”

You look around awkwardly for a short moment, before revealing that you were in need of a new suit of armour.

“I didn’t believe it would be worth ransoming back My Lady. Worn, old and patched so many times as to hardly be passable as plate. With your permission, I would salvage a breastplate or suit of mail from the armoury to fill in for the mean time.”

Elleanors eyes look unimpressed, as if she was looking at a inkwell that had just been knocked over and informs you that it would be in your best interests to purchase a new set of armour post haste when you found yourself in Lannisport. Lord Titus however clears his throat with a cough and interjects.

“Elleanor, please. Ser Mervyn here represents our house. It is our responsibility to ensure that a man whose name is Reynold should be equipped in the finest armour money can buy.”

He changes his point of address to you before continuing on.

“Ser Mervyn, I will write to my brother, Ser Tyrion Lantell, and he will make his home available to you and your men. Inform him I’ve sent you to acquire a new set of armour and that I request he send you an escort to Grim Jim’s shop. The man does some of the finest work in Lannisport, and you will find that if you mention my name, there will be no cost to you Ser.”

Lord Titus’ smile was warm, and when you turned your head Elleanor was staring at the two of you with a look you hadn’t seen from her before. Suspicion, or maybe worry? But it made you uncomfortable nonetheless. Looking over at Tygon you see him awkwardly staring at his hands as he tried to avoid any eye contact…

It was a knights responsibility to equip himself and maintain his armour. She has the funds, Titus is extending an olive branch by using house funds instead of making Mervyn use his own.

Alright writing fellas.
>>
You knew the worth of armour, and considering you were still on the line for Blackfeather Freds bows, saving yourself any gold you could was worth considering and you accept Lord Titus’ offer.

“Excellent Ser, Jim does great work, the colours and filigree he can work into steel is something to behold. And I will be sure to pen my brother and inform him to make every hospitality known to you.”

You thank him once again, and Lady Elleanor is quick to stand and make for the door, summoning you to her side in a curt, severe manner, snapping her fingers and you attend her as fast as you are able to offer an arm, which she declines and the two of you take off at a brisk walk. You can hear her muttering something under her breath in a soft whisper. As the two of you pass a servant on the way, she finally speaks.

“I see you have won Titus’ favour over the course of the tournament Ser.”

You continue to walk on in silence. You knew that there was always more to her than met the eye, and it was often best to let her speak at her own pace.

“Tell me Ser Mervyn, do you forget that he tried to have you killed in Hornvale? Are you that foolish? Are you so quick to forgive? Do not forget that my husband is grasping. He was willing to give up his name in his quest for power, and he is an opportunist. He claims to be a loyal servant to the Lannisters, but while Tywin is away he schemes and plots to advance his position like everyone else. You would be wise not to trust him Ser. Do not forget that it was I who gave you a chance here, who raised you to the position that you now find yourself in.”

The conversation quiets as yet another servants passes by, and the two of you come to Lady Elleanors chambers and she waits for the footsteps to disappear completely before she begins again.

“I have a task for you Ser. One I expect you to complete without hesitation, and to be done in it’s entirety. Titus plans to bait the Serretts into war by freezing their incomes. And while that may work, it will be months in the coming, and many things can change in so long a time…”

She gazes about the length of the hall furtively and leans into you closer, bring her voice down to the lowest whisper.

“There is a small village, 3 days ride south from Headwaters along the lesser Mander. When you return from Lannisport, I want you to take your most unscrupulous men and I want that village annihilated. Every building torched to the ground, all the livestock slaughtered, and every man, woman and…child. All of them put to the sword. I’m not as innocent as Allysa, nor as foolish as Titus. I know what you’re capable of Ser, and I know that this is something you have done before. The fact your eyes don’t shrink away at the mention tells me as such. So as your lady, I command you to raid this village, and I stress that you must slaughter everyone, down to the last child. Is this understood?”

You cock an eyebrow at Elleanor, surprised to hear her speak so brazenly about something you had never revealed to anyone at Ember Peak. It was something you had always been careful to not speak of, and the fact that Elleanor was able to pick up on your tells and other signs was a testament to her powers of perception.

Your mind wanders back to your time spent in the riverlands under the alias of Martin Rivers. You’d risen to second in command of a bandit group that had been harassing the northern riverlands near the lands of House Grell. One particular battle comes to the forefront of your mind. A man lay below you, arm broken by the mace you wielded, and he was begging for his life. Rain lashed down and a clap of thunder rumbled across the sky. You had looked directly into the mans eyes with your hammer raised high before an arrow ricocheted off of your breastplate bringing your attention to your flank and you found yourself facing no less then 6 men charging towards you. A small tremor overtakes your body, and you shake the thoughts free of your head before nodding to her, stating that you would execute her orders to the letter.

Lady Elleanor lets out a long, quiet breath of relief and bids you a good night, and closes the door quietly and leaves you free to prepare yourself for your trip west to Lannisport. You decide to head to the armoury with your spare time however, and find yourself with a dilemma of armour choices. Upon entering the room you find yourself confronted with a sparsely stocked room, with little that would fit you. The rows of wooden racks and stands bare little but stray pieces and cobwebs, although you do find the odd helmet or greave here and there. You walk up and down the armoury but it’s clear that nobody has been managing it for quite some time. You spend almost half an hour searching but all you manage to find was a coat of mail and a suit of brigandine. The mail had more than a few small spots of rust dotted around it, and the brigandine armour was old with a few scales of armour missing here and there. Not great prospects, but better than nothing you supposed. As you pondered the merits of each armour, you pause to think that finding the armoury so short on supplies was worrying, but there was opportunity in that as well. Perhaps you could use that knowledge to further your position and even become master at arms if you could prove you were able to manage an armoury or a baggage train.

its insanely worrying that the armory is in this state directly prior to a war. even if the war is ostensibly months away.

doing the job ourself allows us to have a huge amount of influence over the military of the house and is a great stepping stone.

But a stepping stone is all it would be.

We could use it to squeeze the military units under our thumb.

Alright so Im thinking we have a couple different priorities while we're in Lannisport.

1. Obviously get out armour. Joe has said this would be a lot like Landon Grallner's armor scene so that'll be fun.
2. Find Alyssa a handmaiden. Poor girl is in desperate need. One of noble blood preferred but getting in good with a family for taking in a bastard or a merchant's daughter also viable which brings me to 3.
3. Find a wholesale vendor and make a deal with him. We need to make good on our promise to the archers and I think we have enough coin that we can potentially wrangle someone down to sell to us at cost for the initial bows. And then set up a future agreement for the next 6 months or so where we pay him for a regular shipment of bows and arrows so we can stock the armoury of our own accord and start working on that project. We can bring the merchant that Merv used prior into this to reduce costs as well. Aly would probably be useful here as well.

2 and 3 are likely to drain our current monthly incomes. But with this potential promotion in the future, if we dont botch the mission Elle gave us, we can fight for a pay raise as well and it should all even out.

>>3629099
>Moms got to know we are a hot commodity that can be swayed by power and prestige. While hopefully not getting killed for it.
This really fits with how Mervyn would do that, I think. He strikes me as someone who would prove a point with actions rather than words; he also does not seem to be someone who would let someone walk all over him repeatedly just because they raised him up. Elleanor had a definite hand in raising Mervyn up but he's self-sufficient and handled himself alright since, while she has not treated him with much respect while expecting him to jump when commanded. Even those who do the dirty work of nobles have pride, especially Mervyn, and people outside the family have treated him better than those in it lately, outside Tyrus and Alyssa. Had Eleanor done so I doubt Mervyn or the anons would've been so quick to ponder Titus' offer.

I actually like that merchant idea. Not a bad idea to get a man who specializes in trade on our side if we're going to start haggling about stocking an armoury.

>>3631652
This is actually a really good read on the character that I'm a big fan of. Him being a guy who will bend over backwards and fight through hell to those who respect (and reward) him, but he isn't afraid of doing some shady things and all that entails, and if he isn't respected he could turn on people. I think that's actually a good way to frame Mervyns "Loyalty" is that he is loyal to those who are loyal to him.

So no thread tonight ?

You know, it occurs to me that both the Lord and Lady Reynolds are sort of assholes.

Both are fine with starting a war for a land grab. Titus tried to murder/frame us, and Elle wants us to murder entire villages in furtherance of said war. Not to win it mind you, just to start it.

If we were playing a noble house neighboring theirs they would be primary antagonists.

You pick up the old suit of brigandine off of a lonely rack and give it a shake, eliciting a cloud of dust with each shake of the armour. It was worn and old, but perhaps that would suit your purposes. The task Lady Elleanor had set you on was not work for noble knights or sons of noble houses. This was work for lowborn commoners, hedge knights and bandits, and those type of people didn’t normally wear full plate. You sighed and pinched the bridge of your nose as you thought more about it. You could perhaps rely on half of your men to help you with this task. The other half were true knights, honourable men who upheld the tenets of chivalry and would almost certainly refuse to participate in the slaughter of women and children. Your second in command, Ser Art of the Pendric Hills certainly wouldn’t help, nor would Ser Jeremy Flowers or your newest knight Ser Austin Osgrey. On the other hand, the Lannisport twins, Derrick and Merrick would have no qualms about the orders, and Ser Walder Erenford would likely relish the task. As it stood now however, you had been ordered to travel with the entirety of the Loyal Reins, and you would cross that bridge when you came to it.

As you were walking the halls, you came across two men who seemed to be in the middle of a rather large row. You recognize them as Ser Leroy Lannister and Ser Sebaston Farman, and it was plainly obvious the two men were arguing over your good sister, Joanna.

You weren’t blind, and you could easily see why Joanna would prefer Ser Lereoy. The young man was tall and handsome, and if his performance in the melee was any indicator, a brave man and capable warrior. Not to mention that the Lannister name was one that commanded respect throughout Westero, and Leroy could potentially be a useful ally. And you could also see why Joanna was uninterested in Sebaston. Finally seeing the man out of his armour you saw he was a small, thin man, who was swimming in his clothes, despite them being of a fine cut and clearly being tailored. The heir to Faircastle also had his head bandaged from the large cut he had taken during the fighting, and his nose was broken from the boot that you had delivered there to knock him out cold. While certainly not homely, he was a remarkably average looking man, and the wounds and broken nose were not helping his image. Although listening to Allysa discuss their individual merits, the man was cunning and had a degree of skill in other, more cerebral talents. A coward perhaps, but potentially a useful one.

As the two men escalated further, they concluded their row with Ser Leroy shouldering past Ser Sebaston and cursing, calling Farmans honour into question, and Ser Sebaston storming off in the other direction, muttering to himself and delicately touching his collar bone, wincing in pain.

Alright gents. Lannisport time! Writing as we speak
>>
Would probably be superior if Mervyn gave Joanna the dick instead of her suitors
>>
You decide against talking to either of the young men with their tempers flaring so, considering you had defeated them both so handily in the melee. Leaving them both to their frustrations you head back to your chambers to enjoy a night with Allysa before setting off the next morning. But just as you were about to enter your chambers, a man comes forth from the darkness. Ser Devon Drake hailed you in a whisper, and handed you a small package, and a note, bidding you to follow the instructions to the letter, and he looks you up and down with a furrowed brow and warns you to remember your loyalties, before sinking back into the darkness and disappearing. Once you entered your chambers you opened up the small package, finding the large ruby you had discovered inside the hidden chest in the mine near Hornvale along with another ruby of similar colour, but this one was cut and polished. and upon reading the note you had found your instructions.

--- Ser Mervyn, you are to take this ruby to the shop of Hugor Jeweleye. His shop is named after him, simply known as Hugor’s. He is to ascertain as to whether these rubies come from the same vein. After he is done with his evaluation, the ruby is yours to do with as you please.

“Seven Hells” you muttered to yourself as you crawled into bed beside your wife, awaiting the dawn so as to head out at the crack of dawn.

--- 25/04/281 ---
The journey to Lannisport had been one of mild weather and tensions, and the large party that had set off from Ember Peak had sorted themselves into their respective camps within a few hours of departing the mountain holdfast. The Lannisters had taken off to the head of the column, Lord Tyler, his wife and son had taken off to ride proudly underneath their banners, and Joanna had been by Ser Leroy’s side as soon as you were out of eyeshot of Ember Peak. You yourself had ridden alongside Tygon and Tyrus in the relative middle of the group, surrounded by your own men while the Farmans and others made up the rear of the procession. You had noticed Lord Sebastion and his son both acting in a surly manner, but they kept to themselves and made little fuss along the trip. Tygon had asked you about married life and the two of you had talked for much of the journey about such things. He had even made a show of bragging about how he was truly a man now, which had brought a snort from Tyrus. You’d laughed at the two brothers. Tyrus was always comparing himself to his elder brother, and was certainly growing up at a faster rate than Tygon had. Tygon had only rolled his eyes and playfully reached over and swatted Tyrus’ horse on the rump, causing the beast to rear up and dump your squire into the dirt. This only brought laughter from yourself and Tygon as Tyrus ran off after his horse, cursing as crudely a sailor might.

Eventually, after 11 days of travelling, the large group finally arrived outside of the gates of the impressive city of Lannisport. You had seen it’s impressive walls rise up against the blue horizon that was the Sunset Sea, and behind it loomed Casterly Rock in all of its magnificence and magnitude. Together you had all ridden through the massive studded oaken gates of the the Lion Gate, and that was where the group had split up. The Farmans had immediately made for the port in order to board their ships and return to Fair Isle, whilst the Lannisters had headed off to their castle, Lann’s Keep, which sat on top of a hill overlooking the city, as Casterly Rock looked over all of the Westerlands. This left yourself, your good siblings and your men alone at a cross roads just inside the gate. Tygon was the first to speak, saying how he and Lord Titus had once visited the Lantell’s manor house some years ago and was sure he could find the way there, wheeling his horse to the south and making down the broad street, but you call him back and summoned forth the twins from your men and asked if they knew where the Lantells made their home.
>>
“Aye we know the way” began Ser Derrick.

“North, on the Gilded Street” finished Ser Merrick

“Follow us” they said in unison, and soon enough you found yourself travelling along the aptly named Gilded Street. Much of the houses and walls were painted in yellow and gold, and the sand stone that made up the cobble stones had an auric glint to it. The twins led you for the better part of an hour until finally you came to a set of gates upon which hung a blue banner bearing a silver lion, the sigil of the Lantells. As you approached the gates, a bristly guardsman appeared from a hidden alcove.

“Halt. Who seeks to enter the Lantell Manor?” the man asks, holding his halberd in one hand as he covered his eyes to stare up you, keeping the sun from his eyes. But before you can announce yourself, Tygon reins up next to you and speaks in a commanding voice.

“I do. Tygon Reynold, nephew to Ser Tyrion Lantell, the Knight of Lantell Manor. I also bring with me my brother and sister, Joanna Reynold and Tyrus Reynold, goodbrother, Ser Mervyn Reynold and his cavalry regiment, the Loyal Reins.”

The man squints up at the young lord, and seeing the badge that Tygon wore, the arms of House Reynold and Lantell quartered, instructed him to wait for a moment as he disappeared. He shortly returned however, along with a man who looked very similar to Lord Titus, who is revealed to be Ser Tyrion Lantell, his elder brother. Ser Tyrion bids you all welcome to his manor, and after a grand showing of hospitality, had servants show Tygon, Tyrus and Joanna to their own respective chambers, along with putting up your own men in lodgings suitable to their station. He personally offers to show you to your chambers, and as you looked to Tygon who simply gives you a blank look and a shrug, you accept and walk with Ser Tyrion down a well lit chamber.

“Ser Mervyn, my brother had sent forth a raven ahead of you, telling me to ensure you are offered every hospitality and aid in your duties during your stay. He did not say as to why, and it is a remarked change in attitude towards you from what his previous letters have said. Now, my brother is a good man, and obviously more forgiving than I. Perhaps it is due to him being a second son, I know not. But I will do as my brother requests for now, considering you carry yourself with honour and act according to your station, but know this Ser. I do not trust you, nor that bitch you serve who fancies herself a Lord.”

The two of you round a corner, before Ser Tyrion opens a door on the left hand side, revealing a well furnished room with what is clearly a feather bed, a writing desk and other pieces of well made furniture.

“Now Ser, as per my brothers request. Is there anything I can do to aid you during your stay?”

He says this with a grudging look, just barely managing to keep himself courteous as he keeps his hands behind his back in what you can imagine are clenched fists.

“Actually Ser, there is. Lord Titus mentioned an armour shop I was to visit during my stay here. Owned by a man he called Grim Jim. Perhaps you could point me in the direction of his shop? Also, I’m of a mind to…browse…some jewellery, as well as acquire some bows, in bulk would be preferred.”

Ser Tyrion stares at you with a flat expression and lets out a breath that it seemed he had been holding in.

“Why Titus sees fit to armour you in the finest steel Lannisport can offer is beyond me but yes, I can. His shop is on Steel Street. Perhaps half an hours ride west from here. You can’t miss it, the sound of hammers rings loud from dawn until dusk. You won’t be able to miss his shop, it has a massive anvil situated out front and the sign says Grim Arms if you’re able to read. As for the rest, the jewellers take up residence in the centre of the city, along with the goldsmiths, and the bowyers can be found outside the North gate along the outside of the city walls. Now it that is all, I have other matters to attend to.”

When you shake your head, he promptly takes his leave and you find yourself walking back the way you came, summoning Merrick and Derrick to escort you to Steel Street, and after promptly mounting your horses again, and you soon find yourself riding down Steel Street itself, the cacophony of of metal ringing against metal almost deafening to hear. You spy the impressive anvil outside of Grim Arms, a massive thing perhaps 6 feet across and an impressive display of wealth. Upon entering the shop, you were greeted by a servant and after dropping the name of Titus Lantell, the servant hurries off and “Grim” Jim soon enters the room from his workshop.

His name was fitting, and he wore a scowl that looked so permanent that one could have planted crops inside the furrows of his brow and roots would have taken hold. He wipes away the heavy beads of sweat from the top of his bald head, and immediately sets about to business.

“Ad a messenger. Titus says to get you kitted up, on his gold. Ain’t my place to question no Lordling. A suit of the finest steel money can buy.”

The man walks over and whips out a tape and begins taking your measurements, muttering to himself about all manners of smith talk. Things like the width of your chest, the size of your arms and legs, and his apprentice, clearly a bright boy, was writing all of the measurements down onto a small piece of parchment on a side table.

“Now…the suit of armour is on Lord Titus. Good customer that he is. But if you be wantin’ anything extra, that’ll be on you understand? Coloured steel, gilding, decoration…all that costs extra and mark me words it ain’t cheap.”

Upon asking what he was capable of, the man scoffs and plainly tells you “Whatever you can think of, I can do.”

Alright so here we are, getting some shiny new kit. As stated, the armour itself is paid for, we need only pay for any extras you guys may want. We currently have 167 gold dragons. The armour will take 2 months to complete, so it's also possible to request a suit of plate to use in the mean time that will require a bargain test. So please vote on the options you would all like to purchase.

For the helm, I'm thinking a closeface helm like pic related, only the visor is in the shape of an eagles beak, with some more eagle detailing on top of the helm resembling eyes.

Also, another thing I forgot was do you guys want to buy a superior heater shield for 150 silver stags? It will convey a +5 defensive bonus, and painted how you wish. Additionally, would you guys like to create a personal coat of arms for Mervyn? Perhaps a black eagle, or 4 eagles to represent his marriage to the 4th child of the Reynolds?

“Black” you state simply. “Black plate, along with a tasteful amount of gilding in the manner of my houses arms. The eagle to be picked out in rubies on the breastplate.”

You ponder for a moment regarding the helms that were on display, and see an impressive close faced helm fashioned in the shape of a lions mouth.

“And for the helmet, something of that nature, only in the shape of an eagles head.” You say gesturing towards the lion helm.

Grim Jim strokes his small beard as he does the math in his head.

“That’ll be 60 gold dragons Ser. Paid in full.”

As he says this he tucks his thumbs into his belt as if to send the message that the price was final and there would be no negotiating. To his credit, when you were the best, your prices were what they were.

You reach down to your belt and pull forth the coin, handing it over to the man but before you put your purse away, your eye is caught to a series of shields that like the top portion of one wall. While your current shield was still in fighting shape, it wasn’t every day that you were in the position to upgrade your equipment.

“How much would it cost for a proper shield?”

“150 silver stags, and painted ‘ow you like. Ave you a sigil in mind Ser?”
>>
Your mind ran with the possibilities. Your first sigil had been a plain thing, once your fathers, and in more recent days you had taken to wearing the Reynold arms, but seeing as the rest of your armour would be black, you saw little reason to not take a black eagle for your personal arms. The thought made your chest swell with pride. Your own personal arms.

“A black eagle on a gold bend, on a field of red.”

The man nods his head, and informs you the shield would be ready within 3 days and he would have it delivered to the Lantell manor, and with that, your business concludes with Grim Jim and you exit his shop, with your pockets considerably lighter than they had been only an hour ago. Informing the twins of your need to visit the jewellers quarter, the two wheel their horses about and begin to lead you towards the centre of the city, taking some odd ball turns this way and that, telling you they were avoiding some of the shadier parts of town, and known lairs of cut throats and thieves.

“Even though the guards crack down on a lot o’ the crime…” Merrick begins

“Theres still some places even they tend to avoid going” Derrick concludes.

Coming out of a small, winding alley that only allowed the three of you to ride single file you ride into a wide open square that is kept in immaculate condition, the cobblestones kept clean and the gutters relatively free of debris and night soil. Riding along looking for the Jeweleye, you finally notice a sign that was painted in the shape a women’s head, whose eyes were an emerald and a sapphire. Dismounting Triumph and leaving him tied up outside with your men, you enter the shop and find it empty. As you opened the door you heard a small bell ring, but still no clerk came forth.

“Hello?” you call out and you are surprised when you hear a voice answer back.

“Yeah yeah, I’m right here.”

You look around confused, before following the sound of the voice towards the counter, and you see an incredibly small man standing behind the counter, complete with a massive spectacle over his one eye as he casually inspected a semi precious stone. The dwarf ignores you for a moment longer, before eventually shaking his head and tossing the stone into a small pot and putting away his spectacle into a small velvet pouch he wore around his neck and climbing onto a stool to look you in the eye across the counter.
>>
“What do you want…?” he asks rudely.

“My name is Ser Mervyn Reynold, and I’ve been sent here by Lady Elleanor Reynold to give you these.”

You hand over the two rubies and the dwarfs attitude changes immediately upon hearing the name Reynold.

“Reynold, Reynold. Please Ser make yourself at home. Your rubies are some of the, if not the finest, gems in all of the Westerlands. Now tell me, what is so special about these two that Lady Elleanor sent them with a man of her own house, not that crook backed scoundrel or the other wastrels she normally sells them too.”

“My lady wishes to know if these two stones are..the same. Are they from the same vein or at least the same mine? Is it possible to know such a thing?”

The dwarf scowls at you as if you had just asked him if it was possible for him to breathe.

“Of course I can tell. Any passing jeweller could tell you these things with a degree of certainty, but I can tell you in total confidence whether they are or not.”

He takes the stones in his misshapen hand and brings forth the over sized spectacle and places it over his right eye and looks intently at the two rubies. He whispers to himself, talking about cut, clarity and the size of the stone. He stares at them for nearly 20 minutes as you wait impatiently, looking around the shop at the various tools of his trade. He looks up at you sharply and nods his head in the affirmative.

“Ser, you may tell Lady Elleanor that those two stones absolutely come from the same vein. High quality stones they both are. As a matter of fact, I would be interested in purchasing them both, but particularly the larger, uncut on. I haven’t seen a stone of that size in nearly 4 years. I would easily pay you a handsome price of 35 gold dragons for such a stone.”

Rolled: 17 vs DC: 9
Result: 2 Degrees of Success

You pause and let silence fill the air and stand up to your full height and look Hugor directly in his eyes. You wait ominously and he soon wrings his hands, chuckling nervously that of course for a Reynold, and a friend of Elleanors he would pay up to 40 gold dragons. You softly place your hands flat on the counter and lean over the man, small even despite him standing on a stool. You lean into him and close the space between the two of you until you are a mere 6 inches away.

“If you know who Elleanor Reynold is, than you certainly must know who I am. Her goodson, married to her second daughter, Allysa. And if you have heard of my name, you certainly must have heard of where I come from, and what I am. So while I may be a lowborn son of a bastard, I am Elleanors strong right hand, and I will not be swindled by the likes of you, dwarf. I would suggest you reconsider your offer, elsewise…well you wouldn’t be the first person I’ve made disappear.”

Hugor’s eyes glance towards the door, but you shift your stance to block his view.

“And as for your guard outside, he won’t be able to help you. You’d be dead by the time he came through the door, and then I would have to kill him as well. Best to just pay me an honest price for that ruby.”

The dwarf looks up at you and concedes, offering you a much more generous 80 gold dragons for such an impressive stone to which you accept with a handshake. You squeeze his hand perhaps a little harder than was necessary, but you didn’t enjoy when people tried to swindle you. The sun was beginning to set in the sky when you walked out of Hugors shop however which left a question to be asked.

You sent Ser Derrick back to the Lantell Manor to find the merchant you had dealt with when having your wolf cloaks made, having sent word ahead upon leaving Ember Peak for the man to make himself available to you upon your arrival to the city. The man you had found out was named Dick. Crook back Dick was the name other people called him, on account of his crooked spine, although according to him he hated that nickname.

Meanwhile, you and Ser Merrick made way to the wall of the city and out the north gate at a brisk trot, in order to ensure that your business was taken care of before the end of the day, and you found yourself amidst a group of buildings that were dedicated to the production of bows. You wait patiently for Ser Derrick to return with Dick, and he greets you happily.

“Good evening Ser, I hope the seven find you well. I hear your in need of some…financial services. Do you have anything in mind for what you’re looking for Ser? I would be glad to negotiate on your behalf, for a percentage of any savings I could manage you?”

--- Ser Mervyn’s plan for the bows ---

So, what do we exactly want to do here? Just have Dick haggle for us? Set up something wholesale for future purchases? Any other ideas you guys might have regarding these bows?

The cost for a units worth of superior bows is 200 Gold dragons for those wondering.

Just curious as to what you guys want to do here.
>>
>>3640074
Just the bows and then haggle down the price
>>
>>3640086
This. Also, what about the other gem we got from Elleanor? Can we use that to help haggle the bows or do we have to return it?
>>

I'm in agreement with this.
>>3640074
unless i'm missing something how many units of bowmen do we have that we would even think about another wholesale of bows?

I'll give it another 10 minutes before I start writing.

And that other gem is Elleanors, it was given to you so as to have a jeweller compare the two. It's implied that you will return it to her when you return.
>>
>>3640123
We only have the one, but our armoury is empty. The wholesale thing was just a thought you guys might want to explore, but its rather unnecessary right now.
>>
>>3640132
appreciate it.
Well, I guess let Dick negotiate for us, we could also throw in the promise that if we need some more we would come directly to him so long as we find his work up to snuff. Which it really should be.
And that might help negotiations and he could be our bow supplier for the future.
>>
>>3640074
Dick haggle, maybe get a deal on future purchases, and buy some spare bows for those so inclined in the reigns?
>>
Looks like we'll allow Dick to negotiate for us. I think 10% of any savings he gets us seems a more than fair reward for a common trader. He's a pretty shrewd neogtiater he is, theres a reason he's weaseled his way into Ember Peaks ruby trade. I'll take 5d6 for persuasion please and thank you.

I agree with this approach.

We should either become the castle quartermaster ourselves, or appoint a loyal aid to that position.

Control over a well-stocked armoury would be a medium-term project which could result in a fair amount of influence.
>>
“Agreed Dick. How does five percent of any savings you manage to get me on these damn bows?”

Dick smiles wryly. “I don’t wanna lose your business Ser, but if you want me to haggle for you, It’s going to cost you ten percent. Gotta make it worth it to me and mine if you catch my meanin’ Ser”

You spit onto the palm of your hand before shaking the mans hand firmly. He had a surprising grip for a merchant and together you went off towards the bowyers. Dick weaves his way through the men and soon finds himself dealing with the foreman of the site. He excuses himself as the two of them begin the haggling process, and you find yourself drawn to the racks of bows. Upon further inspection the bows seem to all be mad of yew, and are expertly made. Picking one up and stringing it over you leg, you twang the string to hear a slight musical note and you nod your head approvingly. You continue on to inspect the various facilities and nearly 40 minutes later Dick finds you and explains the deal he has arranged.
--- Dicks Bargain Roll ---
Rolled: 19 vs DC: 12
Result: 2 Degrees of Success

Each degree of success reduced the cost of the bows by 25 gold dragons.

Purchase one unit of superior bows for 150 gold dragons, plus 5 gold dragons for Dick.

“We’ve come to an arrangement Ser. 150 Gold dragons per units worth of bows. Plus my fee, would cost you a total of 155 gold dragons. I would be more than happy to transport the weapons to Ember Peak on my return for my next shipment of rubies and ore Ser.”

“Aye, you’ve a deal Dick. Make it happen. I’ll expect those bows back home before I return though understood?” and the man assures you they will arrive there post haste. You bid the man a good night, and together you and your men ride back to the Lantell Manor, which you find rather easily following Derrick and Merrick’s instructions. You can’t help but think to yourself how easy it would be to get lost in such a place if you didn’t know the way, but the twins were born and raised here, having only resided in Ember Peak for the past 8 months.

The gate is opened for you, and soon enough you are dismounting Triumph and a stable boy rushes out to take your horse from you and to see that he was taken care of. You soon find Tyrus with a few of the other squires and ask as to where you could find Tygon and your squire smirks.

“Tygons with the maester. Idiot was sparring this afternoon and got two of his teeth knocked out. He knows he isn’t a fighter, but he had to try and impress his family. I tell you if my hand was better I’d have given Cardyn a hiding.”

He says this through bared teeth. Fighting was what the boy loved for, and his injured hand, while almost healed, still wasn’t quite up to fighting form yet and it clearly irked him to see a Reynold beaten in such a form.

“You should have a round with that hot head Ser. Put the up jumped bastard in his place. Hes a right little cheat to, used his shield to bash Tygons teeth in when neither of them were wearing a helm. What do you say Ser? Will you do it?”

This is going to be my last update for the day. 8 hours is long enough for one session and we got a fair little bit done, even if I did rush it a little. Hopefully we can get into some combat soon, either at the start of the next run or shortly after when we go pay a friendly little visit to a village in the dead of night after finding Ally a hand maiden and do anything else you guys might want to in Lannisport. >>3640459
Cardyn Lantell...taking a cheap shot at an opponent? Imagine my surpreese.

>>3640465
We can absolutely try to get house funds to cover any future purchases. Doing it ourselves, at least for the first time, buys the loyalty of the captain of our archers, and establishes our initiative in looking after these kind of things. Qualities a quarter master or Master at arms should definitely possess.

Also, 3 EXP gained for your guys' efforts, bringing your total up to 9.
>>
>>3640465
That's why the plan was to draw from our monthly salary that Mervyn gets from the House. It didn't have to be a lot of bows just enough to build a stock after a few months.

And it's been made very clear the House itself is neglecting the armoury and it isn't a priority, they aren't going to pay for it now, the bowmen needing proper gear in the first place is evidence enough of that. The post that introduced it pretty much spelled out that there was potential for Merv to gain influence in the military and House by beginning to stock it himself and take over it. Aiming high is fine but overlooking the half steps to get there is seriously, as I said, dropping the ball.
>>
>>3640440
I don't want to invest too much money into a house that we aren't even guaranteed to be a part of down the road. Jobs are nice. Land is nicer. There would be a certain karmic justice in acquiring and having to rebuild the lands we are about to destroy.
>>
>>3640490
Two things here. Mervyn's monthly salary of 1 gold dragon won;t really be enough to stock up said armory, especially if we start funding a hand maiden, gardener or other members of our household.

And as for the reason the armory is so understocked...the Reynolds just haven;t needed it. After the Rains of Castamere, there just hasn't been a need for the stock piling of arms, as most houses are too fearful to do any war mongering. What Titus and Elleanor are doing right now is a calculated risk seeing as Tywin has been in the Crownlands for so long. Elleanor would does so thinking she can get away with it, and is essentially testing the waters. Titus is doing it more so because he sees Elleanors point and who doesnt want more clay? He figures Kevan is a much more forgiving lord to beg forgiveness from than Tywin, and he isn't wrong.

>>3640507
That would be absolutely poetic.
>>
While I don't think that we can afford to restock the armoury ourselves but if we bring it to the attention of E or T then we may be able to score political points offering to take point on the restocking if they bsnkroll us. We can supervise what needs replacement and use Dick to save our lady a pretty penny.

I don't want to go out of our way to hurt the guy - Tygon knew the risk of injury getting into the sparring ring, for us to go in treating this like a grudge match is petty, ignoble and makes Tygon look like a little bitch - but if Cardyn wants to strike us below the belt then we'll teach him the importance of discretion.

Can you make us one of each and then have us choose. My decision would be based more on their personality, the specific benefits I think they'd likely bring to our wife's service and their fuckability .

If there is support for it, we can meet the three of them briefly, but I'll give you guys a brief summary.

Wanda - Trader

Daughter of Dick, our useful trader aquiantance. She is plump, but pretty and would be an excellent handmaiden once shes been taught what to do. Would bring about positive relations with Dick and make haggling with him easier.

Jillianne Hill - Bastard

Daughter of Tyler Lannister. She looks like her mother, common. She is incredibly pious, and aspires to become a septa one day. Brings about good relations with Lord Tyler Lannister (and his wife for getting the girl out of sight).

Lisa Heatherspoon - Noble

The sister of Ser Cedrick Lantells wife, Lynora. She would bring closer connections with the Lantells. Very much a sullen teenager, she knows her job and would likely be glad to be gone from under her sister whom she is incredibly jealous of, due to a whole number of things.

We need open doors wherever we can get them but I'd rather not spread our efforts too thin; either the Lannister or Lantell option works.

You made your way to the maesters quarters and found Tygon with a damp cloth in his mouth as the maester attempted to stop the bleeding and was removing the roots of Tygons teeth. The young heir to Ember Peak resembled his father in his youth, if the portrait you had seen walking the halls of Lantell Manor had been any indication. His bright, lively hazel eyes and dirty blonde hair showed the Lantells connections to the Lannisters, albeit distant, and his teeth before hand had been straight and white, although there was now a considerable gap as the two front teeth on the top of his mouth had been shattered. As the lordling noticed you, he pulled the rag down and hails you.

“Ah, Ther Mervyn! I hope your buithness in the city went well.”

Tygons normal polite and charismatic manner of speech was marred by a lisp and you asked after how he had come to be in his current situation and Tygon looks away slightly sheepishly as he told his own version of the events.

“Well, I had went to the yard for thome training, and my couthin, Ther Cardyn, wath there. We thparred and well, this happened. I had my guard lowered and hith shield came up and caught me and in the mouth and now here I am. Needleth to say, ”

He looks up and you and smiles again, slightly embarrassed, and wrings his hands before continuing.

“I know Tyruth ith furiouth and raging, but there wath nothing in it. Thethe things happen, and I bare my couthin no ill will. Tyruth needth to learn to let things lie, and to try and rein in hith temper and thtop theeing inthults where there are none.”

You ask for more specifics about how exactly he had caught him with the blow, but the maester, a massive obese man shooes you away as he gets back to work on Tygons mouth and you retire to your chambers for the evening and as you attempt to drift off to sleep, thoughts of combat and training finally take your mind off of the thoughts of your wife, the orders you had been given by Lady Elleanor and the knowledge that Lord Titus had almost certainly attempted to have you killed, if the ruby was any evidence. But for now you fell asleep on the feather bed as the thoughts of combat ran through your head.
>>
--- 26/04/281 ---

It was mid morning, after you had broken your fast on some boiled eggs and buttered bread fresh from the ovens and you made your way down to the training yard with Tyrus as he helped you into the suit of brigandine that you had brought with you. It was old and worn, but it fits well and was remarkably lighter than the plate you normally wore. You saw a young man who bore some resemblance to Tygon sharpening a sword as he watched those who trained in the yard in front of him.

“Is your wrist well enough to train Tyrus?”

“Are Ser, it’s still sore, but Maester Aethan said I could resume training by the time I arrived in Lannisport.”

“Good. Do you still wish to learn how to use blunt weapons?”

Tyrus nods his head in the affirmative fiercely, and you can see the fight in his green eyes as you pull your hammer from your belt loop and begin to instruct him on the inherent differences between swords and maces. His gaze is intent on you as he absorbs every word you say.

“Balance is a key difference between the two” you start as you walk towards the weapon rack, before turning around and balancing your hammer on your hand. “A hammers weight is all at the head, whereas a sword” you say as you put your hammer down and picked up a practice sword, “has all of it’s weight near the cross guard. Another thing you’ll have to learn is to adjust to no longer having a truly threatening stab. To be effective, a mace must be swung, with force, which can leave your own defence open.”

You hand him a mace and shield and begin to instruct him, but it isn’t long until the young knight has finished sharpening his sword and walks down to the two of you.

“Tell me Ser, why is it you’re teaching my cousin to wield such a common weapon? The longsword is far more befitting of nobleman.”

You look him up and down and see from his stance that he was indeed a warrior, and he had a cocky swagger to his step that told you he was at least somewhat accomplished at combat.

“Ser Cardyn I presume?”

The man nods his head and you could see the family resemblance to Tygon immediately.
>>
“I teach my squire what he wishes to learn, and noblemen get beaten by lowborn all the time Ser. It’s how I won my wifes hand as a matter of fact.”

“Ah yes, so you’re the one my father was raging about a fortnight ago. Ser Merlyn I believe? Based on what I saw last night, if you are in charge of training those at Ember Peak, then I fear for your squire here. His brother certainly didn’t put up much of a fight.”

Tyrus comes alive as if on queue, scathingly saying that he would knock out all of Ser Cardyns teeth if he was given the chance and Ser Cardyn laughs and smiles a cruel, spoiled smile.

“Poorly trained, and no manners. Well Ser, if you’re so confident in your abilities, what say you we spar, with live steel. I’d like to see what manner of man killed Ser Herman Swyft.”

“I accept Ser. Either first blood, or yield. I accept.”

The news spread quickly and soon there was a small crowd of the manors servants, and other members of the respective families. Ser Cardyn wore full plate, and the late morning sun shone down on the courtyard, light glinting off of the well forged metal. You took a deep breath and clanged your hammer against the rim of your shield as adrenaline flooded your system and the two of you closed in on one another…

Can I get 8d6+1 for fighting guys, please and thank you.

Ser Cardyn: 20 against Combat Defence: 11
2 Degree of Success
10 damage – 8 armour rating = 2 damage
Ser Mervyn Reynold’s Health: 12 – 2 = 10

The two of you square up and circle each other for a moment, before Ser Cardyn lunges at you with his sword, bring the sharpened steel blade in a wide arc on your right side, which you manage to evade most of the blow, the tip of the blade catches into the padding of your armour and instead of hearing the healthy and reassuring clang of steel on steel, the blade bites through your armour and although it doesn’t manage to break through the gambeson you wore, you were sure that a large and painful bruise would be there when you stripped out of your armour.

For your own part, you had used the greater mobility brigandine afforded you and used a speedy rush to get inside Ser Cardyn’s guard and bring your hammer down in a clinical manner towards the mans shoulder. He brings his shield up in time, but the cracking of wood and hiss of pain tells you that the blow had reverberated up his arm and stung. You then darted out of his reach again and put space between the two of you as the two of you circled each other as two wolves might when fighting for dominance of a pack. You could hear the crowd beginning to cheer, and Tyrus’ voice soars above all of them with a yell of “CRUSH THE FUCKER”. You shook your head, the boys temper was a fierce and apparently unquenchable thing, and perhaps while you were the wrong knight to tutor him in matters of diplomacy and courtly manners, you would show all present that you were more than capable of teaching the boy to fight. As you thought this, Ser Cardyn closes the distance again and instead of backing away you march forward to meet him and the song of steel continues…

--- Ser Mervyn’s Awareness Test
Rolled: 16 vs DC: 9
Result: 2 Degrees of Success
Ser Cardyn came in much more cautiously this time around, and the two of you shuffled your feet as the dance was in full step, and he leaps into action at a remarkable speed and swings his shield towards your head. But instead of focussing on his attack, your eyes are drawn towards his footwork. It was entirely wrong for such an attack, and you see his sword angled down as he attempts to bring his blade inside your guard to make for a cut at your inner thigh, a place where this armour was thin and he knew it. You eat the blow from his shield and your head rings with a clamour as the metal rimmed shield connects with your helm, the metal clang causing a sharp pain deep inside your ear drums, but as his sword lunges forth seeking to draw blood, you bring your own shield down with a fierce downwards stroke onto his hand with such force that he is forced to follow his limb until he finds himself weaponless and on one knee.

You break from him in the briefest of moments and your hammer is raised high and comes crashing down upon the man as if a thunderbolt from the very heavens. His shield is rendered absolutely useless by the blow, and you see the man laying flat on his back grasping for a weapon that was far out of his each. Instead he found your foot planted firmly onto his breastplate with your hammer held at your waist and he yielded once he realized that the situation was hopeless. Perhaps the most surprising thing was once he was on his feet again and had removed his helm, there was no anger on his face. If anything, there was a look of admiration in his eyes and he came up to shake your hand and gives a genuine compliment towards your skill. To his credit, we wasn’t without skill of his own, he was simply young and too eager to close in on an opponent. His arrogance certainly didn’t help in that matter either, but there were many high born with that particular…problem.
>>
You continued your training with Tyrus for a good part of the afternoon, and he takes to the weapon with the natural born talent for fighting that he had. After you had beaten him black and blue for the first time in what seemed almost a month, you had him assist you out of your armour and you found Ser Tyrion walking the halls in talks with his steward and you pulled the man aside to inquire after a handmaiden for your wife. He was clearly annoyed, but he honoured his brothers wishes and assisted you, informing you that Ser Tyler Lannister might have a daughter of an appropriate age and that he would send for a meeting between the two of you and would inform you as soon as he heard word back.

Oops got those switched around. First picture was Reynold coat of arms, Lantell coat of arms, Tygon's personal coat of arms, and Mervyn's personal coat of arms. Pic related is a larger version of the latter.
