he Lighthouse War is over, but conflict still continues.

With Erusea's defeat at the hands of the Osean Federation and the International United Nations, the imperial nation has splintered into a confusing mess of separatists, freedom fighters, warlords, rogue military factions, and those seeking to profit from the chaos. Worse, Erusea's many automated drone factories still remain intact, waiting for new masters to come to claim them.

The Usean continent remains in crisis, and it's up to a new generation of pilots to face this next generation threat...

You are MILLY, the "Red Tail", a Belkan Air Force pilot fighting for the IUN!

You stand in the hangar deck of the Admiral Andersen, gazing at the countless rows of planes packed together like sardines. Mead had told you that she had pulled some strings to get a replacement for your clearly aging Hornet, and you had free pick among whatever was being stored here. You were looking for something heavy and fast, and according to the manifest, the Andersen was carrying a healthy number of F-14s, F-15s, Su-30s, and Mig-31s.

The F-14 and F-15 were primarily Osean made aircraft, while the Mig-31 and Su-30 were more Yuktobanian deals. From your experience, Belka used both types of aircraft, so there wouldn't be any training or logistical complications.

The thing was, Osean birds tended to be a bit more all rounder, blending both air to air and air to ground capabilities, with some seriously sophisticated weaponry and avionics. On the other hand, Yuktobanian birds were a bit rougher and lower tech, but they generally had the edge in raw performance.

"Hm, well, the Yukes make some pretty solid planes." You grin. "I always did want to try 'em out for real!"

"A Yuktobanian model, huh?" Mean nods as she glances at the collection of gathered planes. "Yeah, I figure I can pull together a working Su-30 or Mig-31 out of this. Which one are you looking for?"

Well, the Su-30 was a pretty solid plane that could handle both air and ground targets pretty well, though it was obviously slanted towards air to air combat a bit more. The Mig-31 was a pure air to air bird. It had monster speed and a hefty missile loadout, but its maneuverability left a lot to be desired.

"I could go for the Su-30." You grin as you glance at one of the said planes. It was still in rough shape, being nothing more than a bare fuselage, it's wings pulled off to make more room for other planes. "Hear they're pretty good in a knife fight."

"Well, if that's what you want, I'll get to work on it." Mead grins and pats your shoulder. "I'll get her ready by the time you're on your next mission. I guarantee it!"

"Hm, I fine choice, I would say." Misono nods.

"It looks pretty intimidating..." Vicky comments nervously.

"Heh, just wait until you actually see it fly!" You laugh. "

"Right, well, I need to start getting work on getting these planes out of here." Mead continues. "I hope you all remember how to get off the ship?"

"Yeah, of course!' Vicky says with rather uncharacteristic confidence.

Oh thank god, you weren't too sure you remembered where the exit was yourself. Looks like you could keep that little tidbit hidden.

"Yes!" Vicky says extremely quickly. You almost swear her twintails were wagging with delight.

"I won't oppose it." Misono nods and crosses her arms. I just hope we don't get into any trouble over it."

"G-ghosts?" Misono pauses, her natural confidence suddenly dissipating.

The three of you delve deeper and deeper into the depths of the Andersen. You're not sure why, but the hallways seem to get smaller and samller, as well, becoming borderline claustrophobic.

Or maybe because it was just an illusion from the poor lighting. The carrier wasn't working in optimal condition, and it looked like that extended to the internal lighting, as well. Everywhere were shadows and dark patches, with Vicky and Misono eying each and every spot of darkness with wariness and concern.

Finally, you come to a stop of an armored door, which looked thicker and more heavily armored than the others. And this one was sealed shut.

"What's back there?" You wonder. If there was a sign identifying the room, it was too dark to see it.

"Um, if I remember right... this is probably the ship's munition storage." Vicky remarks. "I think we passed some of the elevators they use to carry the up to the hangar deck..."

"Let's take a look, then!" You grin as you walk forward, placing your hands firmly on the door's seal.

"I-I don't think that's a good idea!" Vicky pales. "Munitions are dangerous to handle! W-what if the damage to the ship caused to to go unstable..?!"

"What if the locked the door to keep the ghosts in there?!" Misono also pales.

"C'mon, quit being such big babies!" You roll your eyes as you twist the locking valve and pull the door open.

And inside, you see numerous crates and missiles, all stored securely in racks. There was a lot of them, and you couldn't immediately tell what make or model there were-

"You know, I guess I shouldn't be surprised I caught you three down here."

"AH!" Misono practically leaps in the air as she takes cover behind a frazzled Vicky, only to be rewarded by Mead's hearty laughter.

"Goddamn, I shouldn't have enjoyed that so damn much!" Mead cackles. "But seriously, what are you all doing down here?"

"Just exploring a bit." You shrug.

"Yeah, well, you're lucky it was me and not one of those Osean Navy pukes." Mead rolls her eyes. "I was just coming down to take an accounting of the munitions stockpile. Fortunately, it all looks fairly intact."

"Yeah, that's good." You nod a bit apologetically. "So I take it that's our cue to be going?"

"Yeah, and if I catch you snooping around again, I'll kick your asses myself." Mead says with a menacing smile. "Don't think I won't."

Something about her self assured demeanor told you that she definitely meant what she was saying.

"Uh, right, let's get going then." You say quickly. Even a Belkan knew not to take a fight they had no chance of winning. "Vicky! Lead the way!"

The drive back to base was rather uneventful. Most of the crowd had already dispersed, due to a combination of it getting dark and Osean Navy personnel shooing them away. You notice Vicky giving one last, longing look at the Andersen as it disappears from view.

"Fortune is certainly with you." Misono says as the car heads back onto the freeway. "To get a new plane like that is quite the windfall!"

"Still, I think you could've done better than a Flanker." Vicky pouts.

"Come now, Vicky, you can't fault your wingmates for their preferences in aircraft." Misono chides.

"I guess." Vicky sulks in the backseat.

It's not much longer when you return to base. Vicky gives a loud yawn and starts rubbing her eyes.

"Urgh, today was along day. I'm going to go get some sleep..." Vicky mumbles as she stumbles off towards the pilot barracks.

"Some rest is certainly in order." Misono nods, moving to follow Vicky before pausing and turning to you. "What about you, Milly?"

"Hmmmm, I'll catch up with you later." You say, turning away. "Got some other stuff to take care of."

What bothered you was that Bandit apparently wasn't back. If he was, he'd be there ready to greet you all on your return. That was just the kind of guy he was.

You immediately make a beeline for the main administration building, where he would most likely be. Was he still stuck in debriefing or something?

However, as you make your way there, you see him coming back the other way, walking in his usual, laid back fashion. Seemed like there wasn't anything that could get him visibly bothered.

"Oh, Red, there you are." He pauses when he sees you approach. "Great, I don't need to go looking for you."

"For what?" You raise an eyebrow in suspicion.

"Something came for you in the mail. It was tagged as a priority delivery so it looks like it followed you all the way here."

"Huh?" You frown in confusion. What could possibly so important to send to you? And by who?

"Anyways, here it is." Bandit hands you a simple envelope. You take a quick look at the front and your heart stops when you see the name of the sender.

You manage to retain some of that Belkan stoicism and hold your excitement, calmly tucking the letter away in your jacket for later opening.

"Um, thanks, sir."

"Don't mention it." Bandit shrugs. "So did you have a good time on the Andersen?"

"How did you know that?" You raise an eyebrow.

"It's my job to know what my squadron is up to." Bandit replies in that usual casual manner of his. "Is there something wrong with that?"

"Not really." You concede. "I mean, we just took a look around, and that's it."

"Did you pick out your plane already?" He continues to ask.

"Seriously, how do know this stuff!?" You yelp, genuinely caught off guard now.

"As the squadron leader, all requisitions have to pass through me for approval." Bandit points out. "Most of those fighters on the Andersen were going to IUN units, anyways. And since most of them don't actually exist anymore, the IUN's got a lot of extra planes they're willing to hand out."

"Wait..." You pause as you start connecting the dots. "Does that mean you got a an upgrade, too?"

"Sure did." Bandit nods.

"Fiiiiine." You sigh. Being all secretive again, huh?

"I just want to to keep you in suspense, that's all." Bandit gives a slight grin. "It'd be boring if I told you right off the bat, wouldn't it?"

"You have a point there." You concede. "So how did the debriefing go?"

"Normal enough." Bandit replies and cranes his head to look upwards. "But the fact that a bunch of random pirates had access to jet fighters and drones is a big concern to the IUN. Seems like they're going to be accelerating their plans to limit the proliferation of drone technology."

"Which means us blowing all of them up." You summarize.

"Essentially." Bandit nods. "But again, the drones aren't the only thing on the IUN's to-do list. Plenty of other brushfires to take care of, too."

"Well, as long as I get to do some shooting, I won't complain." You shrug.

"Anyways, on the subject of debriefing." Bandit turns to you. "What did you think of Swordfish?"

"Huh? Vicky?" You pause. "Well, she's kinda wimp at first glance... but I think she's got ace potential. You saw her kill total for that one mission, right? I think she has what it takes, even if she doesn't think so herself."

"You're damn right I can!" You beam with absolute certainty. "Just watch! And and Vicky will be the meanest aces on this side of the planet!"

"Well, I look forward to that day, then." Bandit laughs lightly. "Keep a good eye on her until then."

By this time, you've reached the front of the pilot barracks. Bandit simply gives you a silent nod before heading off, no doubt to get some sleep... or do whatever the hell he does at night. You're not even sure if he sleeps like a normal person would.

Hnmmm, maybe it wouldn't hurt to give Karla a call? It's actually been a while since you've actually talked to her. She's always busy being off on some kind of adventure or business or whatever. You swear she's off doing more than she ever as as a fighter pilot.

You head back to your room and dial up the phone, hoping that wherever the hell Karla was, the hour wasn't too bad.

The phone rings for several long seconds before there's a click of a pickup.

"Oh, hey Milly!" Karla's warm and family voice rings in your ears. "What's up?"

"Um, is this a good time for you?" You wonder.

"As a good a time as any, I suppose!" Karla replies cheerfully. "Oh right! Did you get that thing I sent you?"

"The letter? Yeah, I just got it, but I haven't opened it yet."

"Oh, well damn. I thought you would've gotten it earlier!" Karla groans. "Guess you can't even trust the damn postal service these days, huh?"

"So uh, what exactly did you send me?" You wonder, eying the envelope.

"Just open it up and see!" Karla instructs. "Don't worry, I'll wait!'

Keeping your phone close, you quickly tear the envelope open, and out fall a pair of what look to be a pair of tickets. You give them a closer inspection and realize that they're invitations to... a memorial service for ex-President Harling at the Lighthouse?

"Why'd you send this to me?" You ask. "You know I don't particularly care for the guy."

"Well, you know, I got invited to this thing too, and I go ta ton of extra invitations so figured I'd get you to come along, too!" Karla explains. "Come on, we'll see each other in person, too! It'll be great! I'm even bringing along Ellisa!"

Oh... Karla's daughter!

"Uggggggggggggggh." You groan. Ellisa was such a freaking brat! She was ultra cute and she knew it, which also gave her the side effect of being ultra smug all the time! It was so infuriating!

"Heheh, sounds like someone is jealous!' Karla chuckles.

"C'mon, she's a little terror and you know it!' You sigh loudly.

"You only think that because she turned out way too much like you!" Karla laughs. "Besides, she's really looking forward to seeing you again, too!'

"Well, it's not like I'm gonna refuse over that or anything." You admit. "Fine, we'll meet there- TOMORROW?!"

"Is that going to be a problem?" Karla asks curiously.

"Well, the thing is, I'm kinda deployed with the IUN right now so I'm not sure if we're going to be called out or not..."

"Ah, don't worry, about it. You'll have time, I guarantee it!" Karla says in a reassuring tone.

"Wait..." You narrow your eyes. "What exactly are you going to be doing?"

"I might pull a string or two. Complicated stuff. You don't have to worry about it!" Karla chuckles.

On on contrary, Karla acting like this kinda did make you worry a lot.

"Anyways, we'll be seeing you there! Be sure to dress nice too!" Karla says happily. "Gotta go now, so I'll see you tomorrow!"

And just like that, Karla hangs up before you even have a chance to respond.

Well, it's nice to see Karla was still in good spirits. However, you had reservations going to the memorial of a guy you didn't particularly care for. Wasn't that like, a bad omen or something?

Ah, well. You fall back on your bed, holding the invitations above your head. How was this going to go, you wonder...?

>And that's it for tonight! To make up for skipping Friday, we'll be running on Sunday, so don't miss it!

You spend the night anxious about what would happen at this gathering thing that Karla was inviting you to. You literally had only a day, if even that, of advance notice to get ready. That was pretty extreme.

And you didn't even have anything to wear!

W-well, first things first, you look at your invitations. There were only two, which meant you could bring one of your squadronmates over if you wanted...

You pause to think about it. Bandit would be safe choice. He was pretty chill in practically any situation. Vicky and Misono were a bit more unknown factors to you, but it was always a good excuse to hang out with them more.

Well, you couldn't settle for anything less than the best! This was Karla you were talking about here! You had to make a good impression with her. Plus, she invited you, so you were in a way representing her as well. If you looked bad, you'd make HER look bad, too!

GAAAH! She piled so much pressure on you at once!

The rest of the trip is a bit of a blur as you blaze through the city streets, heading straight for the largest shopping center you could find.

You continue to blaze through aisles and hallways in a blur of motion as you look for anywhere that can conceivably fulfill your needs...

You decide to get something a bit tomboyish. None of that skirt or dress crap. You never liked that stuff to begin with!

Finally, you manage to pick out something that catches your fancy. It was basically a suit, with just enough touches to let it be known that you straight up weren't a guy. Mainly just the shorts, but you know what? You still thought you looked pretty damn cool.

Satisfied at your pick, you quickly fold up the clothes and step out of the changing booth, getting ready to take them to checkout when...

Well, you better head back to base and pick up Misono first. Didn't make sense for the both of you to go separately, right?

And with that, you make the return drive to base, calmly heading back to the barracks where you see Misono and Vicky milling about at the front.

"Oh, Milly!" Misono waves. "Our squadron has apparently been relieved of all duties today!"

Damn, guess Karla wasn't kidding when she said she would pull some strings.

"Yeah, I figured." You nod. "Hey, Misono, you up to going to a fancy party?"

"Party?" Misono blinks."What is the occasion?"

"A big memorial for ex-President Harling." You say, taking out the invitations and showing them to Misono. "Lots of big shots are going to be attending, and I'm assuming all the food and drinks are free. So how about it?"

"I would gladly go with you!" Misono nods with a smile. "It will be quite the experience!"

"Wait, do you have anything to wear?" Vicky wonders.

"A warrior should be prepared for any situation!" Misono puffs up with pride. "Do not worry about me!"

Well, guess that was simple enough. You glance at your watch and- oh shit! You needed to get cleaned up and dressed and all that crap if you wanted to get to the Lighthouse on time!

Goddamn, you hope this party would really be worth all this trouble...
