You are what your parents call a "kobold": a humble son of Mother Earth brought to the world to experience a tranquil and peaceful life with your nomadic family until the end of your days. When you were born, you were blessed with the name of Trebol.

Although your family is happy with this lifestyle, it is super boring to you. You are not satisfied with the idea of staying in this forest forever. You crave knowledge and to experience new things, and staying here without following these desires is... unfulfilling. "Surely there is more to life than this!" - you often told your parents, much to their disapproval.

Now that you've hit adulthood, your curiosity cannot be contained anymore. After many days of thinking, you've finally made a decision: you're leaving the forest. You're gonna find out what's outside, despite your parents always telling you that venturing in unknown territories is dangerous and unnecessary. No matter what lies ahead, you are fully willing to take the risk. "Once I am satisfied with my findings, I will return", you say to yourself.

Your family has no idea of your plans. You're certain that your father, Mat'kaw, won't react nicely. He will definitely try to stop you, even if he has to tie you to a boulder. But you also don't like the idea of departing without telling them anything...

Although you'd have preferred warm goodbye hugs and kisses from your family, you know they won't understand your feelings, so you decide to leave during the night while they're asleep. To avoid leaving them hintless of your fate, you used a boar's leather and blood to make a drawing note depicting yourself leaving the woods. "Too bad this was the only method I could think of, but I'm sure they'll get the idea" - you mutter to yourself. Before leaving, you borrow your father's wooden spear.

You head out towards the unexplored zones of the forest, straying farther and farther from your hut. Adrenaline starts rushing through your veins... you're finally doing it. You're exploring the unknown!

You excitedly venture for a while, until you realize you should be careful wandering around at these hours: the forest is dangerous, and there are many animals and monsters that would easily devour a frail creature like you, not to mention you can barely see anything since it's so dark. You decide to search for a shelter and wait until dawn.

You continue exploring until you find a cave. There's a strange rotting smell coming from within, one you have never experienced before. It kind of makes you nervous, and you doubt if it's a good idea to rest there.

What should you do?

The smell is suspicious. It could be anything, ranging from a dead critter you've never seen before, to a huge monster making its home in the cave. You won't risk your neck over this. You decide to move on and search for another shelter, though the idea that you'll probably never know what was in that cave is painful for a curious creature like you.

You continue exploring the woods. It's so dark that you can barely see where you're stepping. You ocassionally trip over tree roots. Eventually, you step somewhere and realize there is no floor: as you feel your body being dragged down by gravity, you realize you just walked into a precipice! Your body crashes on the rocks as you violently descend. You somehow survive the fall, but it left you in a poor state. You also lost your spear.

Wounded and without a weapon, you start feeling defenseless. "Maybe mother and father were right after all" - you start thinking. "If I barely survived alone in the forest, a place I am familiar with, how can I expect to survive whatever's outside the forest?". You start considering returning home, but even if you wanted to, you've already lost your way. This only makes your anxiety grow bigger.

As you try to collect your thoughts, you hear muttering sounds coming from behind a bush. They make you shiver. It sounds like two creatures are having a conversation, ocassionally laughing. You think they could be kobolds, but their voices sound different: somehow deeper, raspier. They speak in a language you cannot understand.

You're scared and your heart is pounding fast. You don't know if you should investigate or get away from there as quickly as you can. What should you do?

You quietly go and investigate the sounds, hiding yourself behind a bush. You see three tall pink-skinned creatures. Two of them -those that were talking- are wearing strange outfits that cover their entire bodies, except for their hands and hideous faces. One of them is holding a torch. The third creature is wearing a purple skirt and a bra. It has a smaller body frame than the other two and has a pair of big butterfly wings. With the exception of the wings, the three match the description of what your parents call "humans". They always told you to *never* trust or interact with them if you were to encounter one, because their behavior is unpredictable.

You're scared, but also very excited! You've never seen a human before. Your survival instincts tell you to get away from there, but curiosity has gotten the better of you. "As long as I stay in these bushes, they shouldn't spot me" - you tell yourself. You continue watching the scene.

You realize that the two black-clothed humans are companions. They seem to be mistreating the winged creature. They're holding its hair, laughing at it and ocassionally slapping its face. You know nothing about humans, but you still have an idea of what's going on. The winged creature is clearly in distress, and its captors don't seem to have very good intentions...

Watching those two brutes abuse a defenseless creature makes you furious! You have the urge to help, but you're clearly no match for those humans judging from their looks, so fighting them is a definite no-no. You need a better plan.

You recall the stories of your great-great grandfather about how kobolds evolved –or devolved, to be frank- from dragons. According to the old man, kobolds kept some of their traits, such as their great resistance to magic and lizard-like appearance. Maybe you’ve also inherited their powerful roars? If that’s the case, then you could roar to scare the humans away! “It’s worth a try” – you tell yourself, but you’re also ready to run away in case the plan fails and you just end up giving away your position.

You imagine yourself as a hungry dragon, ready to make the intruders that entered your lair your next lunch. You begin to inhale as much air as your lungs allow, and then you let it all out in the deepest, angriest roar you’ve ever given! The humans are frozen for about two seconds, their facial expressions turning from one of lust to one of absolute horror. When they realize what just happened, they quickly run away, screaming and erratically tripping and falling like fainting goats. This scene gives you a smile.

After making sure the humans are out of view, you jump out of your hiding place. One of them dropped a small metallic object with a sharp pointy end and a grip made of wood. They obviously use these things as weapons, so you borrow it for future use. The other human dropped a stick on fire. You’re amazed at how the fire stays on one of the stick’s ends without burning the rest of the wood . “Human tools are interesting”, you think. You retrieve the fiery artifact - it’ll be useful as a light source.

The winged creature lies on the grass, giving you a puzzled look. You see that it is hurt, and its hands are bound with rope. What do you do?

You wave at the winged creature, which you assume to be a female. She doesn’t react. She looks at you silently, her eyes avoiding making direct contact with yours. You try to talk to her in a soft, non-threatening tone, but as soon as you mutter the first word, she immediately becomes startled, as if the sole resemblance of speech terrified her. She crawls away and gives you a distrustful look. “Oops” – you mutter.

You try to get closer to cut off her restraints, but she crawls back again, this time attempting to kick you! You dodge the clumsy attack, but now you figure you need to convince her that you mean no harm before you can free her. But how?

“Well” – you think, “if words didn’t work, then let's see about non-verbal communication”. You crouch and lay your arms down, hoping the creature doesn’t interpret your movements as a threat, then you start lightly tapping the ground with your hands like a pair of drums. She shows interest in your strange actions. After a minute of no noticeable changes, you decide it’s time to do something crazier: you get up and start moonwalking and dancing like an absolute madkobold! The winged woman is scared at first by your sudden movements, but her look gradually changes, and she finally gives you a big, warm smile! And, to add to your surprise, she steps up and starts dancing with you! You both dance for a good chunk of time – you’d calculate about 10 minutes-, until you both get tired.

The creature looks visibly relaxed now, so you pick up the metallic weapon and walk up to her to cut off her restraints, but as soon as she spots you wielding the sharp tool, she immediately starts shivering and a look of terror crosses her face. You begin to make cutting motions in the air while you point at her hands; she seems to understand your intentions and slowly calms down. She lets you get closer so you can cut the piece of rope tying her hands, which you do. Finally.

Once freed, the winged creature starts jumping in glee, making all sorts of happy noises. It’s like she completely forgot about all the bad stuff she went through just minutes ago! She suddenly stops to look at you. The creature approaches with a grateful smile and kisses your forehead before beginning to examine your wounds. You have no idea of what she plans to do, but you sense no danger, so you allow yourself to be touched. Her hands are so warm... In a cold night, this unorthodox source of heat makes you feel comfort.

You feel a rush of energy through your body. Her hands are emitting light! You see yourself covered in purple and yellow particles – they are everywhere around you! This might be what your parents call “magic”, a natural force that very few creatures can control. It can both create life or destroy it, depending on the user’s intentions. This is the first time you’re experiencing magic being used on yourself. The event lasts about 10 seconds, after which the winged creature steps away.

You feel much better now. All your wounds have been healed, and you also feel much stronger than before! She repeats the healing process on her own wounds. You’re fascinated by her powers, and you wish you could have them, but your great-great-grandfather always said that kobolds aren't born with magic; in fact, their bodies are resistant to it due to their dragon inheritage. You wonder why this wasn't the case now, as your body was clearly affected by the winged creature's magic, but you guess it's because it was so strong that it affected you anyway. Or maybe your great-great-grandfather was wrong, and kobolds aren't particularly resistant to magic.

The winged woman begins to flap her butterfly wings, and her body elevates. She seems to be preparing to leave. Before flying away, she looks back at you and gives you one last smile while waving at you; you respond by waving back at her. The creature dissappears in the dark sky.
.
"What an amazing encounter" - you think. You will never forget what happened here, but it’s time to move on. With your new light source, there’s no way you can suffer another dumb accident like the last one. You also have a new weapon, and you're healthy and stronger than ever! You may have panicked before, but it won't happen again. From now on, you'll endure everything, both good and bad. Your greatest desire is to explore the world, and nothing will stop you from following your heart!

You reevaluate your current situation. You are alone again in the dangerous forest. It's past midnight, but you don't feel tired at all, as you took a nice nap before leaving home. All the walking and dancing left you very thirsty, though.

What should you do now?

While you were falling down the precipice, you’re pretty sure you saw a river in the landscape for an instant. It should be close to your current position, and you remember the direction, so you decide to head there to satiate your thirst. You keep in mind that you need to find a shelter to pass the night; the longer you spend outside, the greater your chances of getting mauled by trolls, ogres, wolves, or any other dangerous creatures that actively roam the forest at these hours are.

After traversing through some trees and bushes, you quickly find the meadow where the river is located. You drop your tools and kneel at the river’s edge, and then you bend down to drink the flowing water. It’s cool and refre-

You suddenly feel something grabbing your neck and forcefully pushing you towards the flowing water, submerging your entire head. It's all so sudden that you don't manage to control your breathing in time, and you immediately begin to drown as water quickly enters your lungs. You attempt to get up to no avail; the hold in your neck is firm, and it makes sure your head stays submerged. You begin to panic and lose control of your movements as you desperately try to reach for oxygen.

You almost pass out, but then you feel your body being lifted up. Your head is not submerged anymore, so you breathe all the air you need. The creature’s hand drops the hold on your neck and now grabs you by the left horn. You adjust your eyes and look at your attacker, and you realize it's one of the humans you scared away before! Its companion is right beside, and they're both giving you a furious look. It seems that they're aware of what you did, and are going to take revenge!

The yellow-haired human -the one grabbing you by the horn- begins to laugh as his companion approaches and catches you by surprise with a gut punch. You feel your bowels twist due to the force of the strike. You scream in pain, and they both laugh even harder than before. They’re speaking to you, and even though you cannot understand their language, it’s clear from their tone that they’re scoffing you. The yellow haired man throws you in the air, and the other human gives you an horizontal kick that hits your left arm; the blow is so powerful that it breaks your arm and sends you flying many meters away.

You are now lying on the grass. You feel dizzy and badly injured. The two men are approaching, and you calculate they’ll reach you in about four or five seconds. The yellow haired human has retrieved his fiery stick, but it seems they haven’t found their sharp metallic tool yet; it's hidden right between the bushes behind them, completely out of your reach. There’s a rock next to you, which you think you could lift up and throw with relative ease. You're close to the river's edge, and the current flows with great speed. You realize you need to act fast in this small window of time; one mistake, and you'll die a horrible, slow death at the hands of these brutes!

You don't have many options; the most sensible thing is to jump into the river and let the current get you away from your assaulters. While you move to act, you remember Gaia, the goddess of nature, and you make a sacred vow with all your faith: “Oh, benevolent Goddess! I beg forgiveness for my insolence and not obeying my parents, and I ask you with all my heart: save me from these evil monsters, and I swear I will return home and be a better and more grateful son, and I’ll never think of abandoning my family again!”.

You stand up and jump into the river, and the current quickly gets you away from the humans. The metal weapon is near the river’s edge, and you manage to retrieve it just in time as the yellow haired human’s hand grazes your right arm, failing to catch you.

As the current drags you farther away from the scene, the bald human grabs the rock that was next to you and throws it at you, directly hitting your head with full force! The impact is so strong that you’re temporally knocked out. When you regain consciousness, you look behind and see two blurry figures in the horizon. They seem to be running after you, but they cannot keep the pace. A few seconds pass, and you completely lose them out of sight.

A sense of profound relief hits you for a moment, but it is quickly replaced by pain. Your bowels, your broken left arm and your bleeding head hurt so bad that they’re making you pass out. You put all your effort to stay awake; it would be fatal to lose your consciousness right now, you’d drown. You want to let the river’s current drag you far enough to ensure the humans won't follow you. When you feel you're safe, you’ll swim to the edge and get out of the water.

About fifteen minutes pass by, and you decide it’s time to get out of the river. But as you try to move your legs, you realize you cannot feel them! The water is so cold that it has completely numbed your muscles, and in addition to how difficult it is to move in your injured state, it has rendered you completely unable to act.

Despite everything, you don't feel entirely helpless. Gaia loves and protects all her children, including a stubborn kobold you! You know She is watching over you. All you can do now is try to stay afloat, and pray that everything goes well. The river drags you farther away, and away... and away...

Many hours pass by. It is now dawning, and the current is still dragging you to Goddess knows where. Your head hasn't stopped bleeding. You've already lost the hold of your metallic weapon as your right arm and hands became number in the water. Your state is even worse than before, and you can barely keep your eyes open...

Eventually, you get stranded on a rock, and the current stops dragging you. You make the effort to look around you, and you see hyena-like people everywhere. They're all observing you curiously. They must be what your parents call gnolls, and this is one of their tribes. You've seen gnolls before, they talk in the same language as kobolds and goblins do, but you have never interacted with them. You've heard they tend to ambush and fight humans and other monsters, but they tend to leave kobolds and goblins alone as long as they don't bother them. Maybe it's because you three share the same language... or it's merely because goblins and your species are not worth fighting.

The gnolls start approaching closer. What do you do?

You gather the strength to mutter a few words, “Humans… please help…”, hoping that they give you aid for sharing a common enemy. You hope they won’t try to eat you, but if they to do, you’ll tell them you’re poisonous. Not that it’d matter in the long run though, as you know your fate is sealed if they refuse to help you.

One of the gnolls –the beefiest looking one- violently grabs you out of the water and holds you by the left horn, suspending you in the air just like your attackers did before. “You have been attacked by humans and now require our aid. Is that what you're saying?” – the creature bluntly asks with her deep, powerful voice. You nod. She says nothing, and proceeds to look you up and down, as if she was judging you. The rest of the tribe is watching in silence. The gnoll finally responds. “We want nothing to do with people outside our tribe, much less waste our time and resources taking care of a weakling like you”. Her words pierce your soul as you lose your last ounce of hope.

Another gnoll arrives at the scene. “Hey everyone! Oh, is that our breakfast?” – he says while pointing at you. The other gnolls start laughing. “Sorry” – she says, “but we have our own needs here. You won’t survive out there in that state anyway, so we will make sure your death isn’t in vain”. She proceeds to lick her own lips.

Their intentions are clear, so you resort to telling them that your body is poisonous, and that they shouldn’t eat you. “You lie” – she responds. “We have eaten kobolds before, and we know your kind is safe to eat, if not very tasty”. She starts carrying you to the bonfire. Other gnolls throw more wood into the fire. A gnoll kid follows your captor from behind while touching and playing with your tail.

Adrenaline starts kicking in. You’re very close to the river; you think you could roll there in a heartbeat, but you need a way to free yourself. You’ve slightly recovered your right arm’s movement. The gnoll’s arm is close to your mouth, and you see that she has a tool that looks identical to the sharp metallic weapon you lost, sheathed in her belt.

If you’re going down, you’ll put up the best fight you can! You attempt to grab the gnoll’s weapon with your free hand, only to discover that it is barely out of your reach by a few centimeters.

It’s time to give the hyena a taste of your lizard teeth. You bite her arm as hard as you can, and she lets out a painful yell as you penetrate through her hide and flesh! The shock makes her drop you. The tribe members become startled and rush towards you!

You figure out you need to give her a significant injury before jumping into the river so that the gnolls pay attention to their leader’s wounds rather than spearing you, so you reach for her weapon just in time as she recovers from the bite and swipes your face with her claws. This, however, does not stop your onslaught, and you ready the sharp tool to stab her throat!

The gnoll's throat receives the full force of your attack! The hyena woman falls down, and blood immediately starts to leak out of her throat in large amounts; the terrified gnoll reacts by covering her wound with her hands, hoping to stop the hemorrhage. Although you’re pretty sure your attack didn’t connect with the jugular, you dealt a life-threatening wound nonetheless, and it should help redirect her pack members's attention to her.

You quickly head towards the river and manage to jump into the water just in time as the rest of the tribe arrives to aid their wounded leader. A single one of them, however, another female gnoll, hasn’t lost sight of you. “Bastard! I’ll spear your head off!” – she yells as she sprints to a hut to look for a weapon!

You pray that the current gets you away from here in time…

A few seconds later, the gnoll leaves the hut, this time wielding a spear! She runs towards you with demonic speed. The humans that attacked you are like snails compared to her! The gnoll quickly reaches you, and prepares to throw her spear!

Attempting to dodge the attack is not an option. Your survival instincts kicking in made you partially recover the movement in your limbs when you realized you were going to get eaten, but your body is nearing its limits now, and the numbness and feeling of tiredness are returning to you. All you can do is throw the sharp tool you retrieved from the gnoll leader at your persecutor with whatever little strength you have remaining, hoping it hits and disables her. Things are looking grim for you, though; even if you manage to escape, you cannot do anything in your current state except wait for your eventual demise in the river. This will be your last stand!

As you ready your weapon into a throwing position, you notice there’s something off. The gnoll seems to be looking at something behind you with a shocked look on her face. She's not paying you attention anymore! What do you do?

Whatever is behind you, you’re going to lick your sharp tool and say a threatening line. “I might scare off whatever is behind me if I show no fear” - you think. But deep in your heart, you’re aware of the futileness of your improvised plan.

You look behind, and all you manage to see is the glimpse of an enormous hand grabbing you out of the water before you can react or think of anything. The sudden event leaves you confused and disoriented for a moment, but you soon get back to your senses and take a look up at the creature that is now holding you, suspending you in the air. You see a fat, grotesque green face with a gooey nose, a unibrow, a greasy beard and goblin-like ears, as well as a vomit-inducing smell that reminds you of a hundred rotting rats piled together: it’s a troll. It gives you a malevolent smile, revealing its rotten teeth, and proceeds to lick his crispy lips. The monster is squeezing the left part of your torso like a toy, causing you tremendous agony as it presses your broken arm. The shocking pain makes you drop your weapon!

The gnoll woman has completely forgotten about you, and her weapon is now aiming for the troll. “You again?! Go away, disgusting creature!” – she furiously shouts as she throws her spear, managing to hit the troll’s chest with such force that it comes through his back and gets lodged into him! You think the troll’s days are over, but to your surprise, the monster casually dislodges the weapon from his body! You take a look at the wound in his chest - it is regenerating, and in a matter of seconds, the chest is fully healed, leaving no scar. The troll laughs and drops the bloody spear into the river, which gets carried away by the current. The gnoll looks both angry and fearful. “I won’t let you snatch another child! I swear it!” – she yells as she desperately runs back to the tribe, shouting for help. The gnolls of the tribe –who you estimate are about a bit less than a hundred meters away- were watching the scene. They have gathered together and begin to rush towards your position, their spears ready to throw at the monster!

We're probably dead anyway, since I see no reason for them to help us after the troll is chased off. We explicitly stated who attacked us to be humans --so no chance at sympathy back there-- and attempted to kill their chieftain. There is ABSOLUTELY no reason for any change in disposition after the troll is dealt with, assuming we survive that.

Yea we're dead as fuck. Either we eat it from "friendly" fire, the troll kills us, or we succumb to our injuries. I doubt there's anyone around to magically heal us again.

You ran out of energy. All you can do is watch helplessly as the troll jumps to the other side of the river and charges towards the gnolls. Dozens of spears start flying and hitting the monster, but the creature non-chalantly dislodges them out of his body and instantly regenerates his wounds! Unfortunately, one of the spears grazes your left foot and rips out the flesh, causing another bleeding wound in addition to your head's hemorrhage. "This really isn't my day" - you think as you scream in pain. The troll clears his path towards the tribe as he sends the gnolls flying away with his powerful punches and kicks!

As your captor reaches the huts, you see the gnoll leader lying on the grass, motionless but blinking. Another tribe member is applying pressure on her throat wound and using an unguent on it. The helping gnoll is wearing strange ornaments and bird feathers on his head. He looks back at the monster, and then continues tending to his boss's wound without showing any sign of fear. The injured hyena woman rolls her eyes and looks at the monster, and then at you… she seems to be bursting with anger.

The troll smashes one of the huts, and a hiding gnoll child -the one that played with your tail- comes out, running away in fear. The monster quickly grabs the boy with his free hand; he responds by punching and biting his kidnapper’s hand to no avail. The kid cries profusely, calling his mother for help, and the gnoll that chased you in the river lets out a hysterical yell: “NO! Leave my son alone!”. She charges towards the troll with her claws out and attempts to jump into him, but receives a mid-air kick in her belly that sends her flying about twenty meters away! The gnoll child screeches as he sees his mother receive the colossal blow!

The monster admires the two creatures in his hands, satisfied with the prize of his raid. He jumps to the other side of the river and proceeds to run away towards the mountains. The gnolls chase after him, but avoid throwing their spears; they evidently don't want to harm the boy. The troll runs fast, despite his heavy weight, and he quickly loses them out of sight as he enters the dense woods.

You begin to pass out...

You are waking up.

... Everything is dark. You cannot see or hear anything.

You can feel your blood leaking out of your head and foot, but you don’t feel any pain from your wounds. You feel incredibly light, it's as if you had no body at all.

You are surprised you’ve managed to survive this far, in spite of your injuries. You think the winged creature you helped hours ago is in great part responsible; her magic not only healed you, it also made you significantly more resilient. You’re sure you wouldn’t have made it here otherwise…

But you can finally feel the shadow of death around you. You will leave this world soon.

You are unfocused. You have no idea of where you are, or if you can move at all. You’re not sure if your eyes are closed, or if it’s just too dark in here...

What do you do?

As you gradually wake up, the troll's putrid smell immediately hits your nostrils, and you can hear the gnoll child's sobbing... Wherever you are, it's not a good place to be.

Anguish begins to take over you as you realize you’re not getting out of this situation alive. You recall everything you’ve went through, and how futile your efforts to survive were. You commended yourself to Gaia, spent hours on the river fighting for your life while enduring the pain of your injuries, and fought a gnoll chieftain, all for... this? It’s clear that She has abandoned you. She has left you to your fate.

You are fully aware, however, that the ridiculous chain of events you’ve went through is your entire fault. You should never have abandoned your family. The Goddess blessed you with a peaceful life, and you threw it away for your vain desire of new experiences… She has no reason to help an ungrateful being like you.

And yet, you crave to your existence. You don’t want to die here. You want to see your family again. Screw the world outside the forest; all you want right now is to be eating your breakfast at home with your lovely mother, your strong and protective father, your dork brothers and your naughty, playful sister… You miss them so much that you begin to cry in silence.

You pray, pouring all your soul and being into your prayer. You pray for Gaia to hear your clamor and have mercy on you. You pray for a miracle to happen.

You pray… and open your eyes.

As your eyes slowly begin to adapt to the scarce ambiental light, you become aware of your surroundings...

You are in a small cave. The troll is asleep, and the crying gnoll child is cowering behind a rock. The boy's leg and yours are tied to the troll with rope, clearly to ensure his prisoners cannot escape without alerting him. The monster is resting his right arm on a wooden chest; he seems very protective of it.

You see the parts of a creature's skeleton in a corner of the cave, right next to the sleeping troll. The skeletal parts are a skull, a ribcage, a pelvis and an arm. Lying next to the bones, you see a strange leather container. It is open, but you don't have a clear view of its contents from your current position.

You can see the sunlight illuminating the entrace to the cave, right next to the sobbing kid...

You check how well you can move; you can turn your head around and move your torso, right arm and right leg, but your left leg and broken left arm are completely unresponsive. You don't have the strength to stand up.

You feel you only have a few minutes left. What do you do?
>>
>>3688278
>get the gnoll kid's attention silently, indicate to remain silent
>lie next to the rope, get our head over to it and start chewing through
>indicate he should start doing the same
>ask him to bring that container over

if we can do this silently, if not then stop trying
>abandon modesty and use our loincloth to slow down some of this bleeding
>>
>>3688278
If possible, lets rip up our loincloth and bandage our wounds quickly. We have horns, right? Attempt to cut our rope with our horns while being VERY CAREFUL not to pull it so hard that the troll notices. If we can't cut it due to our body being too fucked, try to get the Gnoll to check out the leather container with gestures.
>>
>>3688278
Our horns are sharp, so we should be able to start making some leeway with the rope. As long as we section off a part of the rope to cut through so that the rest of the rope that leads to the big guys leg remains slack, we should be able to cut through without alerting him.

One that is done, we need to then have the gnoll kid come over to us and we'll do the same thing.

With that, we'll have him tie the two ends of the rope together, so that when the troll gives chase, inevitably, he'll trip.

Have the gnoll kid rummage through the bag to see if theres any medical supplies while we use our loin cloth (AND HIS, WE NEED IT, WE'RE DYING DAMMIT) to try and bandage our wounds as best we can.

IF there is medicine inside, we use it,and have him half carry us (one shoulder on his sorta deal) while we walk out, and if it doesn't, we could have him move us to a part of the cave that is less visible, and then purposely wake the troll up and have it give chase and thus he can escape since the troll will undoubtedly trip, and that time spent untying the knot will let the kid escape and once the troll leaves to find prey we can slowly make our way out.

Here's hoping there is some medicine in there...

The mystery of the leather bag’s contents gives you hope. You want to be optimistic; there could be bandages, medicine, or even better: one of those magic healing potions you’ve heard humans often carry around. You won’t give up until you exhaust all your options.

First, however, you need to do something about your bleeding wounds - no medicine will save you if you keep losing blood, and you've already lost way too much. You use your right arm to rip your loincloth. The gnoll child hears your movements and looks at you - he stops crying as he begins to show interest in your actions. You try to use the piece of cloth to bandage your head's injury, but it’s too difficult to wrap it around with just one usable arm and in your tired state, so you'just end up pressing against the wound with it as firmly as you can. It’s tiresome to keep your arm up, though.

You slightly incline your head and upper torso so your loincloth doesn’t fall off when you remove your hand, then carefully grab a section of the rope, making sure a part of it remains slack to make sure the troll doesn’t feel the pulling. You put the rope in your mouth and return your arm to its previous position, pressing the loincloth against your wound. You attempt to chew through the thick rope, but your idea fails as you are way too weakened; you’ve lost a great deal of your jaw strength.

You think you could use your horns to cut through it, as they are considerably sharp. You estimate it’ll take a few minutes, though, so you decide it’s a good idea to investigate the leather container first. You figure you’ll need the gnoll kid’s help for this one; fortunately, you already have his attention.

You look at the kid and turn your head a bit, removing your hand from the loincloth carefully, and then you point at the leather container. He just stares at you without response. You point at it again, this time with a more desperate and quicker motion, and the boy gets scared - it looks like he’s about to start crying again, and this time it doesn't seem like it'll be a quiet sobbing!

What should you do, or say?
>>
>>3691158
Move slowly, and wipe the tears from our eyes and cover our mouth to let the boy know to not to cry. Turn our head and look at the leather container while pointing at it calmly, and see if the Gnoll notices. The Gnoll probably thought we were pointing at the bones, we have to get him to notice the container.

If that all fails, continue cutting the rope with our horns, and we can decide what to do once we finish that.

Before the kid ruins everything with his loud whining, you calm yourself and try making slower movements. You gently wipe the tears off your face and cover your mouth to let him know not to cry. To your relief, the child understands and settles down. Praise Gaia!

You redirect your attention to the leather container. Perhaps the kid didn’t obey your command before because he thought you were pointing at the scary skeleton? You have an idea; you start moving your hand in the air as if you were opening an imaginary chest and retrieving something from it, and then you point at the leather container again. You notice how the kid’s face immediately changes from one of confusion to an illuminated one. He starts crawling to the corner of the cave, procuring not to touch the troll’s foot. He grabs the leather container, closing it beforehand to carry it more easily, and crawls towards you. You see that the rope tying his leg to the troll’s is losing its slackness, so you make a simple hand motion to stop him. No big deal - he’s close enough to hand you the pouch thingy.

You thought he was going to bring you the contents of the pouch instead of the pouch itself, "Even better" - you think. Before you investigate the leather container, you realize your left foot is still exposed -and most importantly, bleeding a lot-. You figure you could use the gnoll child’s loincloth as a bandage. The kid is kneeling, staring at you. You point at your injured foot, then slightly pull his loincloth, and finally point at your foot again, hoping he gets the message...

The boy seems to understand, but shows reluctance to help you! He slowly crawls back and lowers his head with an embarrassed look, avoiding direct contact with your eyes. Such inopportune modesty, and the fact that these bandages could make the difference between life and death, is greatly frustrating to you. You just stare at him with a forced smile, thinking of what to do convince him... but the boy finally nods after a few seconds. “Yes, mister Lizard…“ – he mutters. He stands up and shyly begins to rip his loincloth while doing his best to cover his private parts, then he starts bandaging your foot. You signal him to bandage your head as well once he’s done down there – he nods again.

You feel so cold... You observe the gnoll child for a moment. He looks so fuzzy - it makes you want to hug him to gain some heat back, but you know you’ll just end up scaring him away, not to mention there are bigger priorities right now. You forget about it and proceed to take a look at the bag’s contents while the kid tends to your injuries...

There are a bunch of plants and seeds in the bag:

- Two herbs that your parents call “Luan’s Touch”. It’s used to add a nice flavor to tea, but that’s about it.

- Three “Respite of Gaia” flowers. Eating them supposedly recovers a creature’s magic.

- Six “Brown Paradise” seeds. Swallowing a single one works as a powerful laxative that shows its effects in a matter of minutes.

- A small red flower with blue dots on its petals. You’ve never seen one like it before. It doesn’t look particularly impressive, but it emits an incredibly nice aroma that you cannot compare to any you’ve experienced before. You feel a minuscule rush of energy as you hold it, but it is not enough to invigorate you; it feels similar -but not exactly identical- to when the winged creature used her magic on you hours ago

The kid quickly finishes his task, and both your foot and your head are well bandaged now. What do you do?

we can kill the troll with laxatives, they can regen wounds but not a torn intesinal system, seriously, they get infection and the stomachacid can go free and they basicaly melt from the inside, I personaly didnt use this metod when I was playing lidl dnd with my group cuz you cant get good potion incredience and the fire mage can kill the troll quicker but in low levels an alchemist is the best troll killer

I assume if we consume the blue dotted red flower, we'll get a healing boost.

Lets hurry up and consume it, and then freeing ourselves from the rope, tying them together, and dipping the hell out of there. The farther we can get without arousing the troll, the better, and with his ankles tied, we're sure to get more distance. Might as well keep the rest in case of an emergency.

theres no viably way that we'll be able to force feed a troll anything without waking him up.
Not to mention our inability to even properly move due to our injuries.
We consumed the flower, sure, but it most likely is nowhere near the level where our healer friend was. So any attempt we make to try and sneak our way to his mouth and somehow jam it down his throat without failing due to pain is near impossible, theoretically, and I doubt cry baby over there will have the stones to do it either.

Too much risk, not enough reward, and we aren't healthy enough to even plausibly risk the laxative plan.
Depending on what kind of laxatives they are, the time of ingestion to the time of effect could be hours, and if he wakes up with our fist down his throat, he doesn't even need to run, just grab, and barely alive us, even with flower regen active, won't be able to even escape before his arms connect.

I can't reasonably see it working, but maybe you'll roll a 20.

You still feel your injuries covered by your bandages, and your left arm is still broken and unresponsive. You feel pain and fatigue no longer, but all this energy you have... it is not natural. Alright, so the flower didn’t heal you, but it provided you with plenty of energy. For some reason, you also feel that it made you MUCH more agile and faster, though you’ve still got to test your speed outside the cave. You start thinking of a new plan…

Although you attempted to kill their chieftain, there’s a possibility that the gnolls *might* forgive you and give you medical care if you manage to return the gnoll kid home. Fortunately, their leader seems to have survived your attack; if you hit the jugular and she died to the throat wound, you’re sure that not even saving the boy would make them sympathetic towards you.

Their tribe cannot be far from here - you wouldn’t have survived a long trek. Besides, you were taught that trolls despise the sunlight; if the monster attacked the gnolls while it was dawning, it had to be because he was confident he could reach his hideout before the sunrise, or at least before he was exposed to the sun for far too long. You're confident that you can find the tribe in time, if you hurry up.

You use your left horn to cut the thick rope while signaling the kid to cut his with your right horn. The process takes about two minutes. Now that you are both free, you have a few options available:

>Tie the two ends of the rope so that when the troll wakes up and gives chase, he trips (Takes 30 seconds)

>Forcefeed the monster "Brown Paradise" seeds (Takes 1 minute) (Roll 1d10 -- 1-8: troll wakes up, 9-10: troll remains asleep. A single ID can vote once or twice. The die range or number that repeats the most will be chosen)

You tie the two ends of the rope together. Now, when the troll wakes up, he'll trip if he attempts to go after you and the gnoll child. It'll buy you time to escape, and hopefully the monster hits his head so hard when he falls that he gets knocked out for a good hour or two!

Your business in the cave is finished. You walk towards the sunlight, but you notice that the gnoll kid is not following you. He's just standing there, staring at you with a worried and nervous look that reveals his uncertainty of the future.

"Come, little one" - you gently whisper. "We are going back to your tribe". The boy's expression immediately changes. He stares at you intensely for a few seconds, after which he finally opts to follow you by your side.

The gnoll child is noticeably calmer, but an air of melancholy surrounds him. You pat his head as you both leave the cave. "Do you miss your family, boy?" - you ask him, and he nods. You can hear a faint sobbing coming from him, and see a tear running down his cheeks...

...

"Me too" - you respond.

Thank you all for participating in the first part of Kobold Quest! I hope you had fun like I did. I'll continue the quest when I'm less busy (it's why the updates started getting slower over time).

See you soon!
