Misfortune comes in threes, and they took the lives of many.
First, people were abducted. This was a normal shock, and less than a hundred disappeared around the world. It was horrible, but it was contained, and later in the day most went back to their lives…
Then the second wave hit and the effects are still felt to this day. See, this time it wasn’t a hundred people who were struck by calamity, it was hundreds of thousands. They didn’t get pulled from this world though, no, they lost consciousness. Mag-trains crashed into their stations, highways across the world turned into pileups, airplanes dropped from the sky and hospitals flooded with people who they just couldn’t treat.
Position, money, health, age, sex, worth... it didn't care or stop to ask directions, it just hit indiscriminately… or so the world had thought. The fearful leaders living in their monoliths, the raging of anarchist undercities, the prayers and hopes of farmers... none had answers amidst the chaos. Finally, it was the scientific community spoke a chilling reality. It was the parahumans who were targeted. Parahumans, the people related to them, and hundreds of thousands who possessed the potential to become one...

Well, an old saying claims that misfortune comes in threes. But outside of the great Farmlands, few hold stock in such things. Then the third wave arrived, it was not terrible, no. It wasn't indiscriminate either. It was the first awakening. It was violent pain and fear that tore at the minds of thousands of the victims who survived the second wave. They were confused, they were stronger, but they were also dying. They carved a path across nations to fight each-other, to tear flesh and bone and crash the powers against each other.
Then the second awakening came, and more people woke up, some were insane, but others were not. They fought to protect and destroy, and the insane were the ones who lost. When the governments of the world turned their attention to those still asleep, the survivors of the second wave stood in their path. Under the leadership of a cape called 'Great Seer', the rest of the 'dreamers' were protected. When the third wave came, the insane were fought and killed again, but the others were... more sane. They were functional, and some didn't even have powers.

That was all four months ago, though. Today, during the fourth awakening, you woke up. Yes, you were one of the victims. You had the potential to become a parahuman…

You groan, feeling something on the corners of your senses. It's... it's scared, like you. It lashes out and...

>Shadows lacerate your skin, tearing the bed you are in to pieces.
>Your bones strain, small cracking noises fill your head as your muscles writhe.
>The beeping monitor at your side creaks before the metal twists too far and it crashes against your head.

You struggle against the fear and terror, suppressing it with your stressed willpower. Left gasping at the exertion, you look around you.

>The white walls of a hospital greet you, and you see four people sleeping in the same room as you. Their faces marked with a variety of fitful expressions, but all are still trapped in the dream. (Hard)
>... Your room. It's well cleaned, as you would expect. You wonder who's been tending to you, was it your father's men? Or perhaps... did he hire a parahuman to oversee you?(Easy)

You're surrounded by others like you, other dreamers, others... waking up. They're like you, mostly. Some are being injured before they suppress the terror... But others aren't suppressing it! They're screaming, the screaming resounds throughout the open warehouse as they fight to break the leather bindings on their arms and legs.
You notice that the darkness beneath your skin has already destroyed your own restraints. You feel... invigorated. Like heat and light are soaking into you, warming your bones and blood.
But you can't be distracted by the strange sense you seem to have. You hear panic and shouts down the way as people in costumes, parahumans, rush into the room!

>Run. You can't afford to be found with powers. Even before whatever happened to you happened, parahumans in the undercities were strictly controlled by either the gangs or the feds. Judging by what's happening... this place is a parahuman farm.
>Fight. Your blood SCREAMS at you to rush towards the incessant screeching. You want to free them, to fight them, to fight the incoming capes. You want to rage and scream with them and fight with everything you have!
>Write in.

A vicious fight breaks out when the first of the raging people rips her way from the bindings. You manage to catch a glimpse of her arms split in half as metal spikes began growing from her back.
Her demented screams follow you as you run away. You hear that one of the capes is chasing after you and shouting something, but you're not going to give them a chance. You've gotta get outta here!
... There! You found a way, noticing the window bars on a nearby window were half hanging off the frame. You use a piece of rubble against the wall to smash through the glass as the cape behind you comes rocketing across the distance you had gained.
You see his masked face come much to close for comfort as you pull yourself up and out of the small gap in the bars.
His much larger body can't fit, but he grips the bars, bending them slowly. "Stop running damn it!.You're going to get yourself killed!" He says, but you just salute him off handedly and flick the salute away.

"Sorry fag, not interested in your rhetoric. I saw your little farm with my own eyes." You say, bolting off into the half familiar alleys of the Undercity...

The familiar neon glow, the constant hum of the generators beneath your feet and the plasma lighting up the buildings around you... It's calming.
You can't help but notice it, though. The shifting mass beneath your skin. It slides under it, between your muscles, and even over your bones. The more you focus, the more of it you feel. But somehow, you can't feel the revulsion, the disgust that you should be... but maybe that's because this is yours? Regardless of anything else, this is your power and it makes you feel... prepared? It's not safety, it's not really confidence. It's like a kind of 'determination'. It feels like, no matter what comes your way, you'll be ready to face it with this thing in your corner...
Well. Fighting isn't the only concerns down here. You feel like you haven't eaten in weeks... again. They might have kept you on an IV drip, but that didn't prevent your bowels from emptying themselves.

What should you do?

>Find and reclaim one of your old stash-houses.
>Experiment with the thing inside of you.
>Scrounge for some food behind a food place or something.

You manage to find some fresh food tossed into the alley you were walking. Fruitcup, some pudding, huh, even a sandwich with just a bite taken out of it.
You eat the food, which was probably some poor kids lunch some asshole bully stole and threw away, and savor the taste of the potato chips while you walk around the undercity looking for a phone to steal...

A bit of time passes, before you see your chance. Two chances, actually.

>A man in a bit of a wealthy attire, for these parts, just set his phone on the balcony of the second story restaurant he's eating in. Hop up there and steal it while he's distracted.
>A tech-shop just left their back door open in a nearby alley. The young guy who was on a smoke break was called by a yelling voice and dashed inside. If you're quick, you might be able to steal something good from their back-stock.

Redoing the character vote with a new image and new information.

The only statistics I think I need to explain is Conflict. It's the stat used for shard assistance and power growth.
Also, 3 is considered 'normal' for a stat.

So
>Amy Dusklittle - A science savvy recluse with few morals and a few issues.
>Clark Anderson - Hardy, stubborn, and somehow charming despite his criminal leanings, he's a survivor.
>Nathan Anarchy - Talented and content. Someone with no bone to pick, no dream to chase. A drifter with the skills to pay the bills, and nothing more.

You tie a rag from the alley floor around your face, hiding it from any camera footage, and then you dart for the door, managing to get into the building only a few seconds after noticing your chance. The smell of the dirty rag is noxious, but thankfully, the back was empty. You should be able to get out of here quickly. You manage to hear the conversation going on between the man and his shift manager as you look around. Seems like he tried to take an early break and left the store empty when a customer came in. Now the rookie's left the back of the store open too, 'poor fucker.' You think, going over the inventory at hand... Huh, that's a bit concerning. The older models are phones you remember being pretty damn popular before whatever happened to you. 'It might not have been just a week or two...' you realize. 'I might have been out for months...' You restrain your anger though, you don't want an outburst while trying to sneak around. You need to make a choice, what are you going to steal?

>Everything you can. Grab an empty cardboard box and shovel shit in. This'll definitely get attention from the city defense force when it's reported, but you think you'll be able to make a pretty penny off of what you don't use.
>Something hightech, cutting edge specialty item. You know that stores like this won't have the actual cutting edge, but the best they have will be better than 90% of what they normally sell. The store will definitely know something's missing, but they probably won't be able to get anyone after you.

You only have a few moments to think it over, before deciding. "Fuck it." You whisper. 'Might as well get something that'll be useful.'
You move with an unnatural grace as you look over at the locked cabinet that has the specialty devices and next gen inventory.
You find some discarded tie wrapping in the trash and twist it together. Using a nickel you found under the counter, you insert both into the keyhole as the argument starts to die down in the other room. 'Come on comeon!' You think to yourself as you struggle with the last pin.
*click!* You turn it and fling the cabinet open. You see a variety of boxes and names, but there's the jingle of keys at the door, so you just grab something and close the cabinet before ducking behind a shelf.

The door opens immediately afterwards, and you can hear the blood boiling in the manager's veins as he sucks air in through his teeth.
He turns around and stomps back into the front of the store, but you're bolting out the back before you hear a word of the tirade sure to come.
You head out and don't look back, even climbing a four story service ladder to make it to the next level of the city.
In a little nook between a bridge and the buildings it goes over, you take a look at what you've got in the dim light of your hiding space.

Well, you're gonna have to find someplace to charge it up and someone to crack it for you.

It might have been a few months, but as much as the undercity seems to change, everything tends to stay the same. Same providers, same buyers, it's only the middlemen who fight bleed and die down here... People like your old crew.
Your hand goes to your chest, but the shredded jumpsuit doesn't have a breast pocket. Normally, you'd pull out an old picture of your friends to help you through these states of fugue... 'Damn it.'
Damn it indeed. You sigh after a few minutes ruminating over the absurdity of this situation... You hope your sister's alright, that she moved on eventually. That she didn't get dragged back down here, and actually finished her courses.

"Alright, enough moping. Gotta make a decision." You gotta get things in order if you want a chance at getting some normalcy into your life again, after all.

>Search some of your old hideouts and stashes across the city. It'll take a few hours, and there's a good chance most of it's gone, but you'll need what you can get to find housing and get this phone working.
>You know more than a few fences down here, start picking the streets for stuff to sell. You don't want to risk a territory fight without anyone to back you up.
>Get a hold of some old friends, not all of them died... Or you hope they haven't, it's only been a few months and showing up might make their lives a bit hectic, but... You've got no one else to turn to.
>Try to force a techie to crack the phone for you. You are a parahuman now, so you've got a lot more clout than a teenage smuggler.

You had three 'bases', really just places you lived out of and switched between when someone in your area got pissed at some shit you did.

You spent the next hour descending through dark and grimy maintenance areas. When you felt safe to, you made use of public lifts or multi-level buildings to get where you needed to go.
You walked through the massive crowds and down grand avenues of lights and sound, reveling in the sense of wonder that the Undercity can inspire, even for someone like you who grew up in this underground world.
Each level of the Undercity is unique and special. Each was crafted from the bedrock of Nevada, shaped and molded into futuristic urban paradises, into advanced industrial complexes, attractions and private sectors galore. Each level is practically a city unto itself, but there's some similarities and patterns that emerge after going as deep as we have. Every fifth level is humongous, acting as a hub for the five levels below, and connecting to the outside world for evacuation and the flow of goods in and out of the greater Undercity
Once you hit the nineteenth level, things started getting fresh and new. Considering the twentieth was only built thirty years ago, it makes a certain amount of sense. Well, a twisted kind of sense. A sense where corporations fight tooth and nail under the mask of a pristine and thriving cityscape in order to control new developments in the city.

You slip through two more levels and finally find yourself on your home turf. Minerz, Greaphers, even the Goat-trodders. Familiar shitheads who knew better than to fuck with you. Of course, you see a few new tags up and down the alleys.
You hop up a familiar group of pipes and swing into a bridge crossing the alley you were just in. You cross over and... find an area devoid of tags. The walls are clean, and in this part of the slums too... You're getting a bad feeling about this.

>Keep going. You want to see who's in charge of the place you used to live. You might even be able to get some of your stuff if no-one found the loose ceiling tile you used to sneak in and out of your house sometimes.
>Maybe you should stake this place out for a bit, see what kind of people come and go before you make a decision.
>Damn, what a waste of time... You kinda wish you'd checked 15 and 17 first, now that it's come to this. Well, time to make the trek back up...
>Actually... maybe it's best you leave the city altogether. You can steal the cash you need for a train ride out of here... maybe head to Texas or California? You could even get to your sister in person. You've never seen the surface, and a part of you longs for the warm sun you've heard so much about...

Alright, I'm having some SERIOUS fucking problems with recaptcha here. Please tell me I'm not the only one? My damn computer won't even load it. I have to reload the page a dozen times, and then struggle to make the damn thing work. I've been trying to post this for 20 minutes.

You roam around the area for almost an hour. Scaling walls and sliding onto walkways below you in order to get a good scope on the area and see if you can catch any traffic heading in or out of the renovated slums you used to live in. 'Surely, there's gotta be some company or something responsible for this.' You think to yourself.
A few ideas come up, and you can't help but get distracted by them for a time. You ended up looking down a corridor for a few minutes straight without realizing it, too caught up in your thoughts to actually pay attention to what you were looking at or what was around you.

Suddenly, though, you were snapped out of your daydream of runaway trains of thought. "Hey, what the hell are you doi-ing..." A voice from behind you calls out, petering off as he ruffles some clothing.
*Bzzt!~*"Hey, I've got an injured youth on the premises. Shredded clothes with NaPC identifiers on them and some signs of minor bleeding."

*Bzzt!~* "Does the youth have white hair and reddish eyes?"

"Confirmed." He says.

"Keep eyes on the target and be careful, they're an awakened parahuman who's displayed signs of confusion and outburst-symptoms. Backup is en-route, do your best to keep things from escalating."

"Roger that. Out." He turns back to where you were...

>But you've already started to run.
>And you've stayed still, this guy is actual police, not the private 'peace corps' that so many companies employ in their 'areas'.

Yeah, you aren't prepared to sit around and let yourself get captured by the government. This guy knows where your jumpsuit comes from, and that means that parahuman farm you woke up in has government approval.
You're getting the fuck out of here... and two new items added to your 'to do' list... 'damn it. I like how I look, but that's going to have to change I guess.' You think to yourself with a sigh.
You turn and bolt right as the officer finishes his conversation with dispatch, or whoever oversees his audio reports...

Well that's a Failure. Looks like we've got a potential conflict on our hands.

"H-hey! Hold on kid!" The officer shouts, but you're already scrambling away.
You leap off a railing and grab a windowsill on a higher level, pulling yourself up and walking on the thin ledge.
"Damn it..." He says, but you can hardly hear him, until a blast of air and deep *thump* noise is heard. You look behind you and see he managed to take a leap that overshot you by a bit. His boots scratch against the masonry near you as his hands easily grab onto the flat concrete wall. "Don't run kid. You're only going to put us both at risk, just relax. I get you're confused, but we've got the answers dammit!" He says, detaching one of his hands and offering it to you. "Just take my hand and I'll get us to solid ground. Just talk with me, alright?"

>Grab his hand, but try to pull him off the wall instead of accepting his offer.

It's... there, you want to use it. The officer's outstretched hand didn't beckon to you, it drove you away. Your mind balks at the idea of just... stopping here. Your body follows suite.
You smirk, and fall away from the wall. Your veins writhe and split as darkness splits your skin.
It feels amazing, agonizing, aweful even. Your spine shudders as a viscous shadows thread together into a tight structure of rigid bones and thick membranes. Two limbs raise from your shoulders, the fibers that make them up emerging from all over your torso, beneath your stomach, the middle of your back, all the way up to your neck. every square inch bleeds as most of the black tissue in your body squeezes out into the massive limbs that catch you in the air.
They tear finger holds into the concrete to suspend you, though the shape of the limbs continues to fluctuate.
You can't help but laugh at the ludicrous sensation, you can feel it. You hadn't realized it when it was inside of you, but this stuff is a part of your body. But, it's a part you can't really control.
Even as the officer starts scrambling after you, your arms are already taking you away from him at an astonishing rate...

You lead the bastard on a wild chase, forcing him to pull out all the stops as your hands tear down bricks and signs to throw at him.

He keeps slowing down in order to take care of the damage you're doing, because you can tell he's a lot faster than you are, with his grappler and mobility boots.

But even a chase like this won't last forever...
>>
>>3668296

You were in the middle of climbing up to the 20th floor when it happened.
Three police officers were in the maintenance tunnel with two hoverbikes laying on the ground behind them.
"Come on kid. We've got thinkers and two more squads ready to track you down. Just give in before someone gets hurt and we're forced to subdue you!" One of them says.
None of them has weapons drawn, and the stairway you just ran up still has the first officer in pursuit.

>>3668650

You flex your hands, mind racing as you think of your options here. You can't just give in, these guys... You just can't trust them. Your power, this darkness, it's getting weaker the longer you keep it outside of your body. Already you've felt almost a fourth of it's mass return to its proper place. You don't want to hurt them though. They'll obviously react with hostility if you do, and with a plethora of weapons and gadgets, that sounds like a bad end for you.
'There's only one thing I can do...' You realize, clenching your fists and concentrating on the mass inside of you. 'I don't know if you can hear me or not, but... I need more of you. I need you to make me even faster.' You focus and imagine pathing the mass yourself. Envisioning a split as it encases your natural limbs instead of creating its own. 'Together, we can do this. Just work with me a bit!'
...
...
Cooperation... Assimilation... Consummation...

An explosion of pain rocks your body as your skin peels away from your muscle. You catch a sight of grey and red flesh before blackness erupts around you. Immediately afterwards you can see, and you can hear. You move, taking a staggering step towards the officers in front of you as you realize your body has been stretched grotesquely to tower over them. Your every breath is a labored pain as your raw nerves taste the air and relay an overwhelming amount of information to you. You can sense everything, hear it, feel it. You don't have a word for it. But the vibration in the air is more than sound. The charged dust in air currents, the million new smells, the radiation of heat and life around you. You're abruptly forced to realize something else, though. Just how completely, absolutely, and utterly hungry you are.
>>
>>3668851

Waves of information bombard you from the direction of the officers as millions of pieces of your skin and your inner darkness wave around you. Vibrations, waves, electrical bursts, heat, smell, light. It all soaks into you. You watch them reeling from the impact of your energy laden scream. From your agony... This sensation, their energy, your power... you want more! You want to get into the very essence of them, you want to crack their bones and spill their blood! Chemical energy, kinetic energy... thermal, neural, electrical, emotional!! Hell, even their potential energy is up for grabs. 'I can take it all from them!!'

Oh no, this makes all the sense. Mechanically, it's rather strange for THEIR failure to impacg OUR performance, but narrative-wise it's perfectly fine.
>>
>>3668853
>Run. Just run, just run. Stop, makeitstop!MAKEITSTOPMAKEITSTOP!!!
>>
>>3668860
The issue of their failure in this, is that it triggered you into going too far. It's kind of like if you crit succeeded when trying to knock someone out.
Mechanically, that means your attack went super fucking well. But usually qm/dms are nice enough to read intent and narratively just make it a success. Even though mechanically, you would be braining them/knocking them into a coma.

In this case, the difference between your rolls, and the fact that they crit failed, is enough to mechanically let you get away while they all piss their pants and crap themselves. But narratively it's better that I bring to the table the fact that you aren't you anymore. You're you+. And that little + needs to be worked with, around, or through in some situations, even if everything is mechanically perfect.

I've decided, I officially hate art. It sucks. Here though, some things other people made that don't suck...
Hope they manage to do something to help you imagine a monstrous shadow wreathed man. Features hidden but with intense glowing eyes and a gaping mouth.
Every now and then, abused flesh and broken bone can be seen within the mass of writhing shadow, and among the thousands of tendrils that wave and taste the air, you see scraps of bloody skin, still attached to the main body by a network of dark red veins.
>>
>>3669053
I guess our superhuman health stat will be helpful with the recovery then.
You don't have to make the art, pictures as a visualization aid are much appreciated.
Also, not to scare you or anything, but cyberpunk quests and worm quests seem to just up and disappear on this board. Not to mention the standard "qm curse". There was a "cyberpunk worm quest" once... I miss it.
>>
>>3669101
I miss rapes of cain city too, anon.
>>
>>3669101
Well, while cyberpunk is the easiest tag for this world, it only applies in some places.
The Farmlands are full of utopian agricities and The Frontier is basically space age colony style reclamation/terraforming of the Earth's old ww3 and ww4 wounds.

Monoliths are the cream of the crop, though. The product of all humanity has to offer, all the engineering learned in the undercities, all the utopian resources of the agricities, all the cutting edge developments on the Frontier, and the sense of majesty and wonder that only the beacon of humanity's future could provide... Heh. That's the propaganda for it, at least.

Reality is, when humanity is trying to fit 34 billion people on a planet, there are certain inescapable issues.

*-Crunch-snap* Your feet grind loudly against the pavement and you realize the noise is from one of your bones snapping, but it instantly reforms as darkness snaps it back into place and seals the break.
You smile at the sensation, before recoiling at what you're doing. "...Wa-it..." You mutter, looking at your outstretched hands. "-Wrong..." You mutter... This is wrong. You can't just kill people like that.
You can,t hough... 'We could easily do it... We could devour them ALL'
"I won't." You say to yourself, to the overwhelming hunger.
It screams at you, raging and thrashing in your gut as the mass of dark flesh engulfing you writhes. But through the agony that this sensation fills you with, you remain firm. Thoughts of your friends... the people you considered family, once. They give you strength, and they give you the willpower to hold on in the rapid torrents of your own desires.
'They're useless! They can't help anyone. Not you, not your mother, not Jacob or Duncan, Johnny, Sammy, GREG!! Even MEL died because these bastards overlooked th-'
Tears stream from your hidden eyes, dripping into your drooling and distended mouth. But, you still interrupt the dark thoughts thrashing against your stable root of conscious sanity. 'You're wrong. That... was my fault, I know it. You know it too. We've blamed others for long enough, and I'm not going to let you break our promise like this.' You turn your attention back to the world around you, aware that most of your writhing flesh has calmed down and formed a skin around you.
The darkness is quiet... for now.
Without taking another look at the officers, you take off. Your feet and hands leave marks in the concrete until your body begins to shrink.
You don't know how you're still conscious, with the agony of your bones snapping back into shattered joints, shards of bone held together only by the dark flesh that lives in you, and your nerves and skin slowly starting to weave themselves back into their original shape... but you do.
You remain conscious, taking staggering steps as you focus only on finding somewhere to hide. Somewhere to recover.

It's not until your senses begin to recede, that you finally find someplace. It's noisy, its warm, and it calls to your exhausted body.
You crawl into the pipes beneath a broken floor grate, slipping into the shadows and curling up on yourself.
... the last thought you have, is one you won't remember in the morning. 'I miss you... sis.'

...------------------------...

'W-what's going on!?' You're... shocked, at what you see. You just turned eleven a few months ago, and mom told you you were growing up so big... but this, this doesn't make you feel big. You feel small, so small. Your sister is crying, your mom... the police found her. They found her in the alleys, three streets away from home.

Sis... don't cry. She's going to make you cry! Mom said don't cry anymore, I'm too old to cry! I'm a big boy, a h-handsome young man! 'I can't... I can't...'
...
...
The tears came anyway. They wash away the scene.
...------------------------...

Three months later

Your sister's really started to grow up. She's 15 now... She's working and working, all the time she works. She studies. She sings to you when you wake up with a nightmare, even though you wish she'd stop... She reminds you of mom, and you hate it. 'She's not mom!' You're getting angry with her, lately.

You didn't come home today. You hung out with the older kids, the tougher ones. They showed you how to throw a knife, and it felt good to watch it sink into the wood. They complimented you on your strong throwing arm, called you a natural... You smiled and laughed with them...
For the first time in months, you felt normal again.
>>

...------------------------...

Next year

You're twelve, now. You'll be thirteen in a few months. Even though you've been skipping out on school, you managed to pass with the help of your friends.
The boys you used to hang out with graduated a few months after you met them. You heard they got into a fight though, one of their brothers told you about it. They all joined some groups of kids who thought like they did. They made money to support their families, they helped their moms and took care of their siblings... But they ended up getting hurt. 'Fighting your friends... idiots.' You can't help but think. You can't help but look down on them for being weak.
'I'd never do that.' You're certain of it. Jacob and Greg mean too much to you.

Maybe you'll make some more friends next semester? Your sister keeps prodding you about it.

She's been sticking her nose in your business for a while now... It's kinda agitating, but in a good way. She's really started to grow up now, and you can't help but notice she's pretty... Prettier than mom.
... That scares you. Even though you've drifted apart for a while now, you still care about her a lot. 'I should make money too. I was stronger than Manuel before he graduated, I bet I could handle the stuff they were doing. I'm smarter too...' Well, those were the kinds of thoughts you had had for a while now.
You want your sister to stop going out so much. If she'd die her hair, it might calm you down a bit. She wouldn't stand out so much. She wouldn't catch their attention like that, she won't end up like mom if she'd just listen to you. You're a handsome young man... It's one of the last things mom ever told you... But if you're handsome, then what is your sister?

...------------------------...

Another year passes
>>
>>3670320

Sis got a boyfriend, you remember his name. Evan Markovich... He's an asshole, well, an adult nonetheless. She met him when he was visiting on business with his father.
Your mom worked there, your sis does too. It's a hotel and casino, and while sis managed to get a better job than mom did, she still had a few trouble with people.
You haven't been making enough money lately. You can't convince her to cut hours, let alone quit.

"Where are you getting this money from?!" You still remember her face at that time. Her disgust, her fear... she was mad at you. She didn't want to take your money, but we needed it.
You told her you had a friend who loaned it to you... She didn't believe you.
It was kinda true, all you had to do was a few favors here and there. You tried having a normal job, but most people won't hire you cause of the rules and laws around that sort of stuff.

It all makes you sick. You're a man, you should be able to take care of everyone who matters to you. They should let you, it's wrong to do things like this. It makes you mad, it makes you cry... You still break that promise every now and then, you still visit her grave and you still cry... You're still mom's little boy... Her handsome young man.

...------------------------...

Two years ago...

You turned 14 a while ago now, but your sister didn't celebrate it with you. Your gang all got together and toasted your successes. To think a bunch of middleschoolers got one of the best gigs in the undercity... You felt alive... you felt empty.
Since then, your sister's been begging you to study with her. She wants to get married, she wants to live above ground. She wants to take you to his house and be a family together.
'Family? ... What's that word even mean anymore...' You're sitting on the edge of the giant rail-bridge of the twentieth floor, thinking things like that.
Your legs dangle as one hand grips onto the railing, and the other onto one of your products... it's an enhancer... This is your ticket. If you use it, you would be able to pass the test. You could get a higher level citizenship I.D... You could live with your sister...

You could leave everyone behind, and start over in a new place, a better one...

'Heheheh'..."hahahAHAHAHAAA!!~" Your eyes go wide as you erupt in laughter, your eyes stream with tears as you think of your friends. As you think of mom, and you think of this place... your home.
The enhancer shatters in your hand... You've made your choice, and it hurts...

...-----------: Sister Split 1/2. Complete :-------------...

>>3670324

You wake up with an empty feeling, a dull hunger in every bone and every inch of flesh.
But the hunger is forced into silence by that hollow feeling you know so well... It sucks. Living like this... 'I don't have the power to do anything about it...'
You couldn't help your sister, and you couldn't help your friends... You couldn't just grow up.

And now, you're all alone... 'I want to hear her voice.'

You find the phone you'd stolen, hanging from the thread bare jumpsuit. Most of the torso has been destroyed, and the seams are ripped all down the legs and arms, causing it to hang in ribbons from your body.
The pockets still work, barely, which is the only reason you still have this thing at all.
'I need to get this working...' You just don't know how.
You're known, wanted, dangerous...

Mad at yourself, but too hollow to do anything about it...
>[Willpower 5]
You sit up, taking a look at your surroundings... Oil and grease accumulate in some parts of the pipes.
You grab some of the gunk and mix it with a dripping muddy dust spot. You spread the grime in your hair, slicking it back and tinging it a dusky brown.

As for your clothing, well...

>Clad yourself in that flesh. If you only do that, it shouldn't be a drain or enough to lose control, right?

With a torn red morph-suit, smelly leather jacket, brown shirt, and some stained old blue jeans on, you complete your appearance with two mismatched old sneakers.
The left one is a size smaller than the right, but it doesn't bother you much.
Feeling a bit like a new man, and with the existential dread of living another day pushed far beneath the floating concerns and desires of the moment, you turn your attention towards more pressing matters.
Identity, Capital, Contact... With the first solved for the moment, you need to find some money to get this phone activated...
...why?
Or just use a more normal means of getting a hold of your sister. ...don't...
You could always beggar a phone off someone for a single call, if you're lucky enough to find a kind soul for it.

You could also try some of your remaining friends... though you've more or less fallen out with them ever since... well. It's been months and months, if your guess is correct.

You just... don't know what you should do.
...just stop...
'What's the best course of action?!'
...please...
>Get a phonecall from a kind soul.

Failure!

You stop midstep, getting bumped from behind and pushed against the wall.
"Watch it asshole!" The guy says.
The girl walking behind him adds, "Freak," before continuing on.

But you hardly heard them. Something inside of you feels injured, it feels like... it feels like something vital was just... popped out of place. There's an unbearable sense of strain and pressure inside of you that's rising up your chest and undulating in waves from the back of your head.
It's making you nauseous, like you want to vomit, like you want to grind your head into the floor and make it stop!
...I know...
You gasp in pain, sliding against the wall as people walk around you, some look at you with a bit of interest, some with a bit of concern, but something pushes their attentions away, makes them keep going.
And we don't?
What is this?! What the hell is it, it's like the dark flesh sandwiching your battered and healing body. It's a squirming boiling writhing mass of emotions and pain, of anger and resentment and guilt. It leaves you gasping as the world goes on around you. Tears fill your eyes as every muscle in your body strains and twists. You're trying, but you can't relieve this pressure. It's a weight inside of you, but rising up through your spine. It fills your head and presses against your heart and skull. It... it makes you want to die, but you can't even muster the strength to take action.
...you will...all of you...
And then, there was darkness...

So, I'm sure you guys are a bit confused as to what's going on, right?
I've got a spoiler explanation that should help you understand a bit more about your power and your own situation, as well as the situation of the 'dreamers'.
Personally, your main power is 'master'.
While this is fan made.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WG11CeBbpsfUUPgEEWC_-CVWU-UIws-1nSHyM2KekUw/edit#
It's a good explanation for your power. To be specific, you're a Dyad/Swarm type Master. meaning you can create a single minion, but control many things of the same specific genre. While this may sound contradicting, your Minion is a Bane/Duplicate/Twin/Monster. This sounds absurd because it is. I'll keep the rest of this quiet for now, but all parahuman powers are 'breaking' like this. They've becoming overly diverse, too complex, and dangerous to the users sanity and life. The first Awakening was a desperate bid by shards to regain control. Each Awakening afterwards have had more progress towards normal powers.
As a 4th awakening cape, you're about in the middle of where powers were, broken wise, and where they'll go. That's why base dc was 50, but two more were 75 and 100.
>>
>>3671802
To clarify a bit further.
If you had rolled a 75, you would have had 2 main powers of the original three you were given to choose from.
If you had rolled a 100, you would have all 3 of them.
You would have been as powerful as a 2nd awakening cape, but as stable as a 4th awakening cape. It would have upped the stakes on this quest by a wholllle damn lot right from the get go.

>>
>>3671890
Well what a kind lurker!
You're in for a ride of dark emotions and something critics like to call grim-derp.
But it was definitely a ride worth riding once.
(The early bits are the best in my opinion, but that's just a personal thing I have with some of the drama that happens later in. Worm starts good, gets better, gets worse, gets better, hits rock bottom, and then peters out at a solid 5-7/10 for me.
Early on is 8-9/10.)

I get that, but it's justified with 'I spent two years as a blob of sentient me stuff'
At least, as far as I've heard.

She should be broken beyond restoration, not capable of taking the spot as a main character.

The work and effort to make her capable of being a backbone for a WORM sequel, would have been better spent making a new mc entirely, or choosing a better damn character at least.
>>
>>3672082
So the time has come eh?
>>3672036
...she's gone...
The headache is still there, but it's small and beginning to recede.
maybe not
You don't know... what happened earlier. You can feel it, somewhat. You did some things, talked to some people... Your phone works, now. But what did you say? Who got it working? You're confused...
...
More and more...
we won't stop
You've begun to realize something.
...I...know...
...You aren't alone. There's something inside of you, but it's not between your muscles or under your skin, its deeper than your bones. Your power did something to your mind, or those assholes who were farming you did it.
It's the little things, you've started to notice... The 21st floor, the gang tags... but more than that. The maintenance tunnels... some of them, you've never been through, yet somehow you could navigate right through them.
But beyond that... beyond that, is your sister and your mother. What... what did they look like, again? White hair and red eyes? Or was it purple... Did your hair always have a little streak of grey behind your left ear? Why isn't their a birthmark between your pinkie and ring finger? Where's the scar you got skateboarding with Harold? Who was Harold?
It's the little things, really.
The longer you've been awake, the more that's jumping out at you.
The more afraid you are to dial that number... or was it this one?
"God... I must look pathetic." You whisper, looking down at the city below... "Just like that night." You walk up to the railing of the rail-bridge and look down on the 20th floor of your city...

*ring ring*
The default tone of the phone is irritating, but compared to the mix of dread, pressure, fear, and hope... You hardly even notice it.
*ring ring ring*
That doesn't mean switch the rhythm! "Hehehhaha.." You can't help but chuckle at your sudden flare of irritation. It helps ground you, the laughter, the fact that you're still as irritable as ever. 'Isn't that how it is, down here in the underground? No matter how many things change... we all stay the same...'
...
*Click*"... Hello?"
*gulp*
...congratulations...

Tears well up in your eyes as a mountain of doubt and anger, of nervousness and guilt. Sins of lives you haven't lived, fears of times that haven't passed, hopes of a reality that really has come to pass.
Voice thick, laden with the emotions catching in your throat, you croak out a single word before breaking into sobs and curling up against the railing. "S-Sis!"
"..." She's silent for a moment, then two, but before you can get control of yourself, before you can worry about her silence... She sings.

"Big and loud and mighty-proud,
"The lion stalks the don~key.
"Small and quick and full of wit.
"The mouse-y steals the cook-ie.
"You like to shout and sometimes pout,
"But momma's hugs embrace ye.
"A lions heart and mouse-y's pride.
"A hum~an sleeps before me.
"The night is young, the song is done.
"So rest because the sun will rise!~
"We'll meet again, my little friend.
"We'll sing the song of Morn~ing...

Her voice... it's the same. The song soothes you, it makes you calm, all the fear, all the emptiness. It's gone... but.
"I-I told you, didn't I?! Stop treating me l-like a kid, sis."

"Heehee!~ Well. Can you blame me? It's been a very, very long night. And now that you woke up, I think it's time you come see me. What do you say?"

>"Yes. I'm ready, now." You'll let go of the past. Your friends have asked you to do it for so long, but you couldn't. Before all this happened... you were close to tracking them down. To finding their killers, but months later the trail will be cold. It's fate, isn't it? Or... is it an act beyond the grave? 'Mel...' Well... whatever it is... it's a chance to start over.
>"... I just wanted to make sure you're alright... I'm still needed, here. Maybe someday, sis." You owe it to them. Before you can fulfill your promise to live happily, before you can carry on their memory, you have to find the ones who ruined those happy days. You'll make them pay... Then, when the debt is gone. When the weight holding you back, the guilt, the pain... when you've given it all back to them. Then you can find your happiness.

So to be clear.

Going to see her means abandoning revenge and taking a path likely to lead to heroics.

Shunning her this last time will lead you into a spiral of conflict that will almost inevitably end with you the baddest guy in a room.

Redemption?
or
Damnation?

So uh. I accidentally archived this thread under the wrong name. I think, when I open thread #2, I'll just add a link to the second post or something and explain it. I've got no idea how to contact suptg guys, aside from a teamspeak I downloaded and did my best with just now.

"..." She's quiet, but you can imagine the kind smile of relief on her face. "Alright, keep your phone on, I'll be there in a few minutes, alright?"

...
"Are you there? You heard me, right? Well, I'll be there soon. I can't wait to see how you're doing..."
You stay silent, even as the phone clicks and the quiet voice of your V.I. gives a simple 'connection ended' confirmation, and you look at the black screen of the phone in... it's not despair, but...
You're afraid. You're anxious. 'How will she get here in 'minutes', why the hell does the phone matter?' You don't want to believe this is something bad, you really, really don't... But a part of you just... won't let go. It's snapping to decisions, making you feel things you shouldn't be.
'In what world, ever...' You can't bring yourself to finish that sentence, that thought.
...Because you know it's happened. You might not be special...
You set the phone down, and look around you... There's a good spot to watch from.
We could be fine... but it is suspicious.
You let your inner... darkness, this hungry flesh that never stops moving inside of you. You force it into the air around you and tens of ribbons begin to carry you up to the ceiling of the bridge where you hide in the supports.
'noisey'
Wrapped in shadows, your darkness relaxes and lies flat against your body as a hint of the many senses your... greater self, begins to make its way to the forefront of your perception.
...
That's when you begin to see it. Around the phone, a small vortex of invisible energy starts to move, it expands and extends tendrils here and there, catching on invisible points in space where it begins to solidify. Then, as if the face of reality was a plane of glass, everything shatters and two people are left in that spot. One looks down at your phone, and the other... she looks right at you.
Your spine crawls, though, at what you see. And for a second, a single word, full of a thousand meanings, and spoken by a million voices consumes you.

Her gaze pierces right through you, laced with strange and powerful emotions. It's like a barbed hook of soft intent pulling you into her waiting embrace. It calls you to her, and without realizing it, your body's already started to move.
When your feet hit the floor, sixty feet below you, you flinch as half healed bones break all over again, but the agony makes your mind clear up and you realize her eye has gone wide with... fear? Pain? ... Guilt, even?

"Sis? Are you okay?" You ask her. Now that you've recovered, you're somehow shocked and relieved that she's in costume. It's as if... you knew it somehow, even though you can't remember her ever being a parahuman.

You watch silently as her partner grips her shoulder, "Erica? Is something wrong."

"Uh, no. Nothing's wrong. More importantly..." She looks at you and her mask peels away from her face. She tilts her head a bit and scratches the back of her head. "Hmm, sorry if this sounds a bit strange or mean, but what's your name?"

W-what?

>"...Clark... Do you not recognize me or something?"

"...Clark...Way to forget your own brother's name. Reaally feeling the love here sis." You say, crossing your arms. The flesh covering your clothing begins to shift a bit as strands wave away from you into the air.
...idiot...
She looks at you with a sad smile as her partner steps forwards and addresses you for the first time. "Yeah, but we've all forgotten a few things... Faces, names, places..." *sigh* "Are you ready to go? You can get a full rundown on what we know of this stuff back at base." He adds.

"I... Yeah." You're confused, but you get the feeling you're finally going to start getting some answers around here.

"Come here, it's easier on Bounder if we stay close." Erica says, motioning you to her side. You walk up to her and she hugs you around the shoulders, still taller than your growing, sixteen year old self. She puts her chin on your head and says something unnecessary. "Jeez, it isn't comfortable anymore~ Stop growing up, would you?"

"Tch! I'm not twelve, woman! Grow up a bit and recognize that I have too!" You complain. But it's a comfortable thing to say, and you don't move away from her. Even as your oily, grease stained hair gets mussed up under your cap, it feels good to lean against her like this.

You shut your eyes for a moment and upon opening them, you find yourself somewhere else entirely.

"Welcome to headquarters kid." Bounder says, "Hope you don't mind the facilities, after a few months of disuse and with over half our roster still stuck in the dream, it's a bit much to have things in tip top shape."

"Headquarters? Sis, what have I missed? You've got powers, a team, and a headquarters now? What happened to your-" Your voice cuts off as something bothers you.
...Don't go there kid...
'Idiot'
C'mon guys, chill...you don't even know what's true or not anyways.
"Missed? Hmm, not much I don't think. I mean, since I woke up. Like we've said, you'll get your answers here. Just gotta get you to our 'boss' first. There's people trained to talk about this stuff... Don't worry Clark, alright?" Your sister says, ignoring your botched question in favor of keeping the conversation going.

"Well, alright I guess. Who is your boss?" You ask.
>>
>>3675526

"Heh." Bounder laughs a bit. "He's a great guy... well, was. She's still pretty great now, don't get me wrong, but uh... I dunno. Things are a bit weird. You might have heard of her, you might not. But her cape name is 'Fallout'. She runs this band of government sidestepping superheroes~! Eh, we're called Monz'r'Us. It's a play on, well. It doesn't really matter. The real purpose behind it is the Mon-part. 'Monsters'. We're a group who takes in parahumans who have terrifying powers or can't fit into society. We used to have almost thirty members from across the great plains. Kansas, Texas, even all the way up north. Old 'Badland' came from the Dakotas. Not sure if he counts towards the 'great plains' part, but what's a guy to do?" He shrugs his shoulders, and you realize Bounder is... talkative. 'I hope we get there soon.'
_ _ _ + _ _ _
Somehow you've managed to arrive at your destination, Bounder opens a door and you sign in relief when he finally stops talking.

"Fallout?~ Are you up?" Your sister calls, peeking her head into the room as her hair nearly touches the floor. "My brother woke up this wave and I brought him here."

"EhHH?!" A shout comes from deeper in the multi-room suite of sorts. "What the hell're you doing Eri? I told you to talk to me about this kinda stuff."

"You shouldn't have been sleeping then. I've told you time and time again, go to sleep before the sun comes up. Don't you even know it's already four pm?" Erica starts berating her team leader, making you smile as her scathing wit turns on someone you can laugh at for once.

"Hmmph. Maybe I will, maybe I won't. More importantly... Is he himself?" She asks, as the sound of things knocking over and fabric sliding around fills the hallway.

"... I think so. He's much closer than you or I was, at least." Your sister says. "Not that that means much. We'll have to wait and see how the other awakened are doing, did you get any stats on it, by the way?"

"Yeah. 3% is the current count. Only one out of ten have been sent back to sleep, and apparently there's been half a dozen reported deaths from various causes, with a few dozen injuries."

*Sigh*"Any of our guys?" She adds.

"Nope, well, your brother might count. But it seems the rest of our group is stuck in limbo for now." They both go silent for a bit...

...

"Damn it." You say, finally fed up with all this talking over you as if you weren't here. "How about you guys stop ignoring me? I could use quite a few explanations on what you two are even talking about! Especially since you're talking about me!"

Your sister sighs, "Look. None of us are gonna give you good answers. But the thing you need to know most, is that a few months ago, almost a million people around the world went unconscious. We were all some of them, and we've all woken up from the psychic phenomenon being called 'The Dream'. People wake up in 'waves' that's being called 'Awakenings', following me still?"

"...Yeah." You say, doing your best to keep a hold on her train of info here.

"Well, no one survived the first awakening. They went insane and killed each other and themselves, they rampaged across the world to fight each other. Docks, towns, even small nations were devastated by it. But then the second awakening happened and some people, like boss, woke up without going batshit insane."

"I don't know about that." Said boss interrupts. "I fell 'asleep' as a guy, and woke up as a girl if you'll remember. On top of that, my damn head's a mess of shit I never did and people I've never known. I still call some of you by different names and stuff..." That... sounds fucking terrifying, if you're being honest.

"It... well." Your sister trails off, but just sighs before turning back to you. "They can function, and a lot of them do more than that, now. Boss is one of the ones who took well to therapy and treatments for the personality dissonance."

"Hmmm~" Boss says, sticking her arms at a weird angle to bring her hands up to her face. She tilted her head with closed eyes and a wide smile as her pointer, pinkie, and thumb stick out on each fist. "Guess it's my bubbly personality, desu~"

Her face immediately goes back to her deadpan exhaustion/boredom as your sister continues speaking. "Anyways. I was part of the third awakening, and you were part of the fourth. It seems people are waking up in larger batches with more stability now, and their powers are getting weaker, more easily controlled, and less... terrifying. Although, I think you might be closer to my generation than your own was projected to be. You know that feeling you got, when we met at the rail-bridge?"

You nod, "Yeah. It was pretty strange..." 'And painful.' You think still feeling the agony of your broken feet in the middle of your thoughts. You can't suppress the pain completely, but somehow your capacity to withstand pain is ludicrous.

"Well, I felt it too. It's another thing that people have noticed since awakening. Parahumans, especially family members or close friends, keep experiencing these psychic events. A lot of Thinker type parahumans have come up with a hypothesis... They say it's our powers, communicating with each-other. I don't know how close to the truth that is, but... what did you feel? The word, what did it say?"

"...Love." You say, remembering that first word that bombarded your senses. But somehow, your mouth tingles when you say it, and you realize that both your sister and the boss' attentions snapped to you when you said the word. "W-what did you feel?" You ask your sister, confused and a little uneasy.

"I felt... I... I don't want to say it, sorry. I don't think it's a good idea." Your sister doesn't meet your eye, and for a few seconds, all is quiet...

"ALRI~ght. Come on you two. None of this," Boss walks up to you both and begins pushing you from your lower back as she slams her door shut with her foot. "Let's get the hell out of this dingy hall. Who's up for some grub?"

_ _ _ + _ _ _

Boss took you to the kitchen where you got to stuff your face with food made by Bounder and another team member. Her name was 'Luscious'... and so was she. It was hard to focus on things with her in the room, even if you couldn't see any details about her beneath her costume.

From there, you were given a bit of a tour, not allowed much say in the matter by the pushy Boss and her other teammates.

You met Bowsore, Black-E... and her.

It was towards the end of the tour when she crossed paths with you guys, she gave your sister a bad look, and you an outright sneer. "...Filth..."
It was one word. Just a single statement. But you nearly lost control of yourself and attacked her. She smirked at you insufferably when she saw the waving tendrils of flesh and your gaze, full of hostility.
"Beast." She says to you, before turning to your sister. "Tame your mutt, maybe the smell will become more palatable, then."

You were shocked by her audacity, and couldn't respond before she'd turned a corner and went on her way. But you turned to your sister and Fallout and asked, "Who in the hell is she, and what the fuck is her damage?!"

Boss just sighed. "She's Hellion... She wasn't this bad, before the Dream... But she's a second awakening cape like me, all kinds of fucked up by her power and that fucking dream... *sigh* Well, let's keep the tour going, yeah?"

_ _ _ + _ _ _

And so, now it's almost five in the afternoon, and you're chilling in the room you were given... It's strange, being here like this. Being surrounded by people with powers, people with problems.

Your sister's down in the 'caverns' under the base. She said she'd be busy for a few hours with some stuff, and asked you to wait for her up in the base. Said you could talk the night away once she was done... But damn if you aren't bored.

"Well. No use lazing about, I guess. Let's see what you guys can do." You say, refering to the squirming wrapping sliding slithering squeezing strands of darkness flesh emotion shadow goo inside of you.

But, do you have any specific things you want to work on?

>Investigate your power, what IS it, what can it DO? How? What's needed? Why etc.
(If you have a good write in on ways to explore your power or find out aspects of it, this gets a bonus.)
>Train to withstand your power. It's strong, stronger than you at the moment, and that's not a good thing.
>Meditate on it, or something? You're not sure how powers work, but you know it's got something to do with people's brains. Might do more harm than good, though. Unlearning bad habits and all that.
>Test the limits of your power. Knowing what you can actually do could be pretty important you know. How strong are you at strongest, how fast at fastest, etc. It seems like an important question
>Try to control your emotions while letting more of it out. You've noticed that, somehow, the more of this stuff you let outside of your body the more it effects your mental state. You aren't sure what the relationship is, but it's not safe.

You sit against the wall of your room and slowly ease yourself into the most comfortable position you can... Your body is in constant, mind rending pain. Pain that proves you are still alive, that you are awake, and that this is not a dream. It's something you're familiar with because even before you woke up with these powers, you lived every day in different but equally devastating kind of pain...

It makes you wonder, did your power know that you were always in pain? Does it hurt you so that you'll never forget what you've done, or to help you atone even a little for your own mistakes?
'I don't have any answers, and I'm tired of asking questions. It's time for you to show me what you can do. Give me something, something I can know. Make me understand'

You begin thinking it over and over as you push your will into the darkness that lives inside of you.
You submerge your mind in its depths as rents in your skin begin to form. You fall away from the world as a dimension of darkness and malevolence rises around you.
It's primal, and its terrible... and it's wonderful. Being in this darkness, surrounding yourself in anger and regret, in apathy and malcontent... Your body screams in pain as it's torn, crushed, pulled, embraced, suspended, shattered, shredded, and slowly being devoured.
You feel it all, but it can't stop you like this. When you're embraced by this inner darkness, when their flesh and desires encircle you like this, you feel invulnerable. You feel enlightened and unstoppable. You feel everything you ever wanted to be, an indulgence of all you've ever suppressed and the momentary joy of instant gratification...

Then, you open your 'eyes'... Thousands of signals, of abused and impossible senses, they crowd to the forefront of your mind. They overwhelm you in a sea of information that you just can't understand. You see a dozen things in your mind's eye. You hear from hundreds of angles, you see more than any eye ever could, more colors and more tones, more than just 'brighter or darker'.
Some things are bright all around, others are dark all around, some are bright and dark and bright and dark and it all overlays and you can't make sense of it all... but somehow, you just do.

You stand, and realize that this time your mind has retained its calm. You aren't being pushed by them, they're calm too. You're still filled with dark desires and thoughts, but you can think over them. They aren't forcing you, they're only beckoning. They're only beckoning for you to listen to their stories and to hear their desires.
You shudder at the unheard voices, the unspoken desires, and the sense of understanding you feel from everything around you.

You feel... small and weak. YOU. Not what you are now, but what you aren't now. What you will be when this conglomeration seperates into constituent parts and retreats back 'inside'.

But you can't stay like this for long. It's... expensive. It drains your energy, it makes you hungry... You realize that you're young, born into this world with no understanding of yourself or your origins. You simply... are. For now, you are Clark... For now, he is you. There are more, within you. They are like him, they are all like him. They are why you exist, they are the source of your strength and the reason for your existence.

Clark wanted to see what you can do. You'll show him just what he's capable of, but how?

You don't have much time. Only a few minutes. Unless you began to actively take in energy, if you were to feed on something you could show him more, perhaps.

What should you do?

'He needs to know more about us.' You realize, making your decision. "Listen up... I can't tell you much, because I don't know everything. But I'll show you what makes us all... special."

You hear yourself speak, almost shocked at how normal your voice sounds. But this time around you aren't distorted. Your form is clear and very close to 'human'.

"I guess I should start with this." You dig around inside of you, and pull out some of your organs to show them to him. Having them exposed like this racks you with pain, but you know it isn't actually dangerous. "Like this, you're... inside out, basically. Take care of our core, it's what really matters." You hammer that into yourself, into him, into all of them by squeezing lightly on some of the organs in your web of hands and finger like strands. You gasp at the unsettling sensation, and almost immediately stop. "Our organs are still vulnerable. You still need blood, healthy blood, full of oxygen and nutrients. You can't afford to lose your brain, either. We can bind your bones, seal your cuts, wrap your wounds and even replace vital things like nerves. But your brain, your lungs, your kidneys and stomach and all the other bits are something not so simple to replace."

You move on to something else, unsettled by talking about your weakness like this. "Now that that's out of the way..." You take a moment and think... 'This ought to do the trick.'

"Alright. I guess I'll show you what we can do... You might not remember all the terms for powers and stuff, but we are made of little bits and pieces. EVERYONE is made of little bits and pieces. But you've got bits and pieces made of some special stuff, follow me? Our insides are full of something. Those somethings are full of darkness, they're like demons. Your inner demons, but different. Not all of them are yours, only a few really are. But none of them are anyone else's. I don't understand it, but I don't really need to anyways. What really matters is that you know what you can do with us." At that, you focus on yourself, on all that makes you up, and you single out just ONE of them, pulling it through the rest. (Pic)

You can't see it, it's much too small. But you can still visualize it with your many other senses. "This is what we are." You say, half in wonder. It's... strange, small and elegant. It seems graceful almost. "This... this is, what I am..." You can't help but be surprised and amazed that these little things form YOU.
Swallowing your spit, you continue, "We are not bound to biology and we are not limited by technology. All things can feed our hunger, and our hunger feeds our desires. If we are fed, we will grow, and we will multiply... What our limits are? What our purpose, what our goal... I don't know. There's too many of us and we all want something different, we all want something similar, we all... just want. I don't know how to put it into words, but you're one of us so I know you feel it. Some of us are stronger than others. We have bits and pieces to our whole, and we have a stronger influence then the majority... You've heard us, or understood us at the very least, before... None of us asked for this, but it's what we are." You sigh, confused at the lack of cohesion you've just displayed. "Sorry, retaining control, maintaining this identity for you is... its hard. It's painful to know, that I'm a momentary existence. I just want to stop, I just want to never disappear. But you're a part of me, so, I know I can't afford to do that. With what time I have left, I'll do my best to show you the rest."

From there, you showed him some of your other abilities. You helped him understand what you see, even though you don't yourself. You taught him how to envision a change in form, how to allocate the listeners and shouters inside of you. Pairing certain bits with other certain bits works better than a third category, etc.

In the end, you'd developed a single stable transformation that he should be able to make use of...

> Enhanced Arms. Very large very obvious enhancement to strength of the upper body.
>Clawed Hands. Also Dangerous, also useful in combat, and also
>Bladed Arm. Dangerous, but very powerful in combat.
>Whip Arm. Increased range and such.
>Plated Skin. Increases your defense. Losing your bits and pieces is bad for all of you, especially the ones who die/are separated.
>Concentrated Senses. Making sense of the senses and focusing them on something/one.
>Advanced Musculature. All around boost to the body without obvious changes.
>Tissue Synthesis. Could help repair organs or the host body.
>Write in. (With a basic description of your idea, I have one for all of the above.)

And then, you retreated back into Clark's body. You stitched and wove things back together as best as you could before your mind finally broke and dispersed into the whole...

I'll go for
>Tissue Synthesis. Could help repair organs or the host body.

I think that advanced musculature, plated skin, and bladed arm would pair really well with this "upgrade".
Enhanced arms would pair very well with bladed arm and clawed hands, and advanced musculature would be a good upgrade just to balance out the increase in arm power/size.
Whip arm and concentrated senses might go well together as a stealth/range/tracking set and to predict enemy moves maybe.

Upgrades and upgrade combos are fun.

It's only as more and more of your consciousness fades away that you recognize just how terrified you are. You... You stopped existing. You, Clark. The you who woke up to screaming rampant terror in a parahuman farm/holding area for other dreamers.

The you who remembers his promise to his dead friends and the you who decided to find happiness in life again. That you was completely and utterly overwhelmed just now. It was only your burning desires and sheer willpower that gave you the strength to come back from that darkness.
Your willpower, your connection to reality, that is why you came back from that pool of darkness, from the mass of all you now are.

You stare at your hands and try not to cry as you feel them inside of you. They move and agitate at your thoughts and emotions. They feed your fear and from it. They are your demons, they are you... And if you aren't on top, if you don't keep ahead of them, then they'll become you.

You take an hour or two to let that settle in, maintaining your emotions throughout, controlling yourself... In the end, you smile with a weird glint in your eye... because of what all this means. You're the best you, right? That's why you're on top of the pile, the leader of the pack.
...Debatable...
'Annoyance'
Now he's getting it.
...
...
For now.

You feel a multitude of unknown thoughts and unspoken desire when thinking that, but you force away the fear that comes from them, and smirk instead. "That's right. And I'll keep this spot. I'll take on everything you lot have in store, don't you worry about that. Our hopes and dreams rest on my shoulders, and I'll make sure we keep it that way."

So what if you're some mass of little tech-cell-demons, so what if you're some kind of hivemind conglemera-congoloma-group of things. You're you, for now and forever if you have anything to say about it!
That said, what're you going to do now?
Your sister still hasn't come to see you after all.

>Feed yourself something. Not just food, all of you.
>Go see what's taking your sister so long, you managed to go through an existential mid-beginningandend life crisis and she hasn't managed to do... whatever?
>Bother the boss about her identity. Maybe... you are closer to the older capes/awakened then they thought? You might be able to get good advice regarding this strange ass power of yours.
>Sleep. You're fucking exhausted, mentally and the little bits inside of you too. You should probably come up with a name for them too... well, maybe later.
>See if you can find someone to talk to while you wait for sis to get off her ass and hang out with you.

Your stomach ends up making the decision for you. Laughing at it's soft grumbling, you turn your attention to your pains... If you had more energy, you could do more than this patch job that's holding your body together. Living without the grating pains would be nice, no matter how comfortable you are with it at this point.
You leave your room and walk down the winding Halls of your hosts' base. A minute later, and you find yourself in the kitchen. It seems like most of the hang is here too. Big-E, Boss, Bounder, some of the capes who were on patrol... You don't see her, though, so you thank your luck and take a seat next to boss.

You can hear people asking about you, but you don't really mind. New guy means new gossip, you dealt with a lot of that when before you split and formed your own gang...

Ugh. You ignore the memories by turning your attention to the lady looking at you with a raised eyebrow. Feeling pressured to say something, you blurt out one of the biggest questions you've had since you heard about her. "So, you still smashing chicks or does the 'monz-cave' crave infiltrators with more meat on their bon-err..." You trail off after realizing what you're asking, and noticing her eyebrow only climbed higher as her lips turned up in a smug half-smile.
"Bouun~deeeeer. Pay up," she says, turning to look at the dejected looking masked man.

"Sigh," he says. "Damn kid, I hoped you had more integrity. My bad for thinking you'd be more like Erica... Damn." He throws a wad of cash to the boss, and her smirk gets a few inches wider.

"You just made me 300 bucks, so don't worry about impropriety or nothing. And, to answer your question... I don't remember being a guy. Strangely enough I woke up with the memories of someone who didn't quiet live in this world, or something. Most of the same people, few things different though." She shrugs, "My sex is one of them, apparently. But yes, I still 'smash' chicks, and I'll have you know my 'monz-cave' is well fed, no cravings here!... not that anyone's meat could handle it anyways"
You don't quite understand what she mutters, but you feel uncomfortable from it anyways.

A bit lost on what to do or say, you begin brainstorming ways to get energy aside from food... In the end, only one thing makes sense right now...

'That's it!' You remember how cold they are... well. When they're outside of you? It's a strange thing to think about, and you don't get why the bits and pieces, whatever you end up calling them, act differently inside and outside of you. But back to Eur-eka, heh. Uh, right. FIRE!
'Flames, heat. tHeRMaL energy, all that good stuff.' All you have to do is shove these things in some of it, right?

You walk over to the stove in the kitchen and turn it on. For a second, you consider whether you should just stick your hand in it or something... 'Nah, that'd probably hurt me.' You think. Your flesh is still normal, it's the darkness in you that's special. So you just wrap your hand in it and stick it over the clicking flame of the stove.
A second later, your spine shudders as your arm starts to swell. 'IT FEELS SO GOOD!~'
You're almost knocked out from the overwhelming sensation. It's like an itch getting scratched, like a bitch getting laid, a starving man eating and a thousand other sensations of pure satisfaction all at once.

Thankfully, you retain control of yourself, though, and latch on to the little buggers with your willpower. To placate them, you start moving the mass around your hand, pulling some back in as fresh ones go out. Turns out, that was a very good choice, because the ones left in the flame for half a minute were beginning to show some small signs of damage, even though they were in ecstasy.

It's around this time that someone finally gets a handle on what you're doing. "HOLD UP, Someone grab him!" One of the capes you don't know says. You're confused for a moment, before you realize it looks like you've just charred your hand black with the stove.
"Hey, it'-" You can't say anything else though as Boss pulls you by the back of your jacket and grabs your arm in her hand with a snarl.

"What the fuck kid!?" She says, looking at your 'injury'. "... Wait." Her eyebrows scrunch up, and she looks at you with a glare. "Fucker, say shit before you act like you're mental next time. You trying to trigger someone?" She says, letting go of your hand. "Stand down guys, dumbass is fine. Guess he's got a fire resistance or some shit."

>"Actually... I think I can just, eat, energy? It was hurting me a little but... damn that felt good."
>"Heheh, sorry?" You don't feel like explaining yourself right now.

"Uhh. No idea, that is to say, I don't know why I know? Heheh, um... Guess it's just, one of those things?" You say, startled out of your short-lived heat-induced high.

"hmmmm" She says, squinting at you, before shrugging. "Well, whatever. I've done worse, in some of my memories at least. I guess I'll leave it at that for now. Just... don't do things like that, please?" She asks. "I'd rather you not get all wrapped up in drugs and stuff again. I'm pretty sure that ended... well. Sorry, I shouldn't bring it up. More importantly, Boss, I've got something to show you in the basement... it was a big one, so..."

Looking at her, now. Your sister really does look exhausted. She begins walking away with a limp as Boss stands. "Sorry kid. Looks like we'll be a while. You should head to bed sometime soon, big day ahead of us tomorrow, not that I'll follow that advice any time soon." She laughs herself out of the room...

You see some of the guys left are looking at you, some are looking out the door, all are a mixture of concerned and amused...

A bit dejected and still coming down from the mix of adrenaline and WHATEVER the fuck fire does to you, you make your way over to one of the only other people you've met, here.

Big-E, Black-E. Well, his full name is "Darkness:Black Emperor of the Abyss" But uh... Yeah. He's a bit embarrassed if you call him that.

Anyways, you sit next to him and he smiles, "Well hello again young shade." He says. "I notice the clouds over you seem to have lessened. Has your confusion started to recede?"

You shrug your shoulders. "Well, I definitely know more about my powers. So yeah, I think I've gotten a bit more grounded since we talked earlier." You look around for a second, before leaning in and asking him what you've been wondering for a while now. "Hey, do you know what's the deal with that Hellion chick? She's-"

"Intense? Yes. She burns with a certain intensity, it is true. But... that flame was warmer before The Dream. She woke up in the same generation as I, Fallout, and a few others... I don't know how much of her story is mine to tell. But she woke up, remembering a much harsher life than the already troubled one she fell asleep with.
"Before, her younger brother was named heir to her father's company. She was marginalized, trained to be a political tool, and eventually triggered.
"She's always disliked men to a certain degree, but after awakening... well. It would seem she dreamed of a darker life than before, and she still hasn't woken up." He says, shaking his head. "She isn't bad, though. So don't fear her. She's just... confused. And she's scared. I wish I could do more for her, but even my considerable powers can do little more than keep her stable, for now." He finishes his little speech, and you sit back in your chair...

"Damn. This shit's really taking the wind outta my sails. I was kinda hoping she was always such a bitch and we could joke it off or something... this fucking Dream... It's really starting to piss me off." You say, clenching your fists.
You're not all that concerned over Hellion, though you sympathize with her a bit. What really pisses you off is how close you and your sister came to such a fate... and you're worrying something might actually be different about her anyways.
It's not like you've been around her long enough to know for sure, and...

"It seems, I've troubled you somewhat." E says.

You shake your head. "No, you just reminded me of some troubles I'd forgotten while goofing about." You say.

"Well, I hope they don't ruin your fun... It's getting late, though. Would you like to talk about something else, or are you ready to turn in for the evening?"

>Actually, "Can you tell me more about your power?"
>Actually, "Is there anyone I need to worry about around here?"
>"I think I'm good, yeah. Goodnight E." Head to bed.
>"I think I'll turn in after a while. There's something I want to do." Go after your sister. It's only been a few minutes, so...

In a place with no air, a man breathes.
In a place with no light, the man sees.
In a place with no life, this man refuses to die.

This man is waning, and one eye shuts, leaving only five of his original eighteen to continue their jobs.
'Soon... I will return to the dream.' The man thinks.
'Soon... I will rest and the world will burn again.' The man believes.
'Soon...' His gazes all trail towards a point outside of his void. Towards his home. 'Soon... They will come for us.'

So, in a void bereft of space and time, the 'Great Seer', sole survivor of the 'Last Awakening' continues his vigil.

Until his last eye bleeds and forces itself shut, he will continue to protect this fragile reality from the encroachment of those who wish to act upon it.

But soon... There will be a breach. The preparations for the fifth awakening have begun, but only time will tell if the world will see a sixth.
