Welcome to A Song of Revenge and Gold: House Malroy Quest. In which you take the reins of a House of storied glorious past since Aegon’s Conquering, but whose fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in the doom that Robert’s Rebellion brought. You are Brynden Malroy, second son to Lord Vamos Malroy and Lady Esemella Hayford and the last living heir to Steadhold and House Malroy. The year is 285AC, two years after the Rebellion and a year after your return to Westeros.

House Malroy is a pre-genned House designed around the idea of a story within the Crownlands of a House fiercely loyal to the Targaryens and their attempts to live in this new world after Robert’s Rebellion. Lord Brynden Malroy is as well pre-genned but will take direction from the players in his ways and how he develops himself further. This Quest will be moderately more story driven than others of its kind, but the development of the House and her lands will take just as much importance.

If you’ve played one of the many Quests within the ASoIaF setting the rules of the SIFRP system should be known. I will be using the Game of Thrones edition, as well as a few of the expansions namely OOSP and a few house rules which will be explained as we come to them. If you have questions about how things work or why certain actions are taken I can explain them as we go along. In truth this is a learning experience for me as well.

Day 21, Month IX - 285AC ~ Mid-Morning
King’s Landing - The Malroy Villas

In the days following the Siege of Steadhold you had been given time to take stock again and truly breath. Your people and home mourned for the fallen, not days after a wake had been held for those lost holding the northern outer wall until your cavalry had arrived to smash into the Langward host. Septon Tytos had presided over it, as uneasy as you felt about the man he brought peace and faith to the town and your castle and eased the pains of your people. Mason had lost two of his Captains, Cyril ‘of Ciderhall’ an old friend from the Reach and the majority of his archers, and Maxwell a man once of the Princewood refugees. In truth your army was stronger than it had ever been, while they too mourned, it had become increasingly clear to you that they were bloodied veterans, men ready and used to the rigors of war. And they had cut a bloody and gruesome blow to the Langward army. Ser Lucas had estimated the total loses between the three battles to be upwards of a thousand, likely over. And while Dontos had been able to arrive in time to cut off the full retreat, many had been captured or cut down by them as they advanced, though likely just as many managed to flee into the Princewood, never to be seen again.

Your dungeons were fit to burst with those captured, though most importantly among them were Ser Brandon Blount, a cousin of Lord Beros Blount. He had been captured by Ser Yandry Santagar when they took the catapults, attempting to mount and flee so that his family would be absolved of the crimes the Langwards had so clearly committed. You knew the family were those of cowards and fat wastrels, but they were lackeys of the Queen, perhaps there was a way to see them end their part in this without the need for more war. If you could speak to either the Queen or Ser Jaime in any capacity without it devolving yet again. He sat within a barred carriage guarded by the Qorgyle Cavalrymen that had come with you. They had been recalled home to Dorne, Ser Yandry had explained, Lord Quentyn Qorgyle had need of them there and with the death of Ser Quellon still fresh many had longed for home and to pay homage to their fallen commander. The letter was brief, Lord Quentyn hardly speaking otherwise.

Similarly the Longwaters men were returning home as well, they marched at the rear of the train, protecting the casket in which their former Captain, Ser Haldan Rambton now lied. Lucas had been wroth with grief when he had been informed of his death, friends from childhood, they had squired together in Driftmark. You admit to never having known the man well, but from what you were told he had a hand in saving your son, and had fought to the bitter end, and for that you could not even attempt to pay him the true homage he truly deserved. Lucas had written to his elder twin, Ser Jon Longwaters, and he assured you that his father would be informed of your shared grief and you would have a chance to meet the man in the coming months, though Jon too was struck with grief, if the dried tears upon the letter were any indication.

The thoughts of war clouded your mind, kept it from gainful sleep on the roads, but you had slept somewhat easier the first night home, collapsing in exhaustion from it all. You had taken to the road not two days later to King’s Landing. Master Saul Cromwell, interim Master-at-Law and your soon to be Barrister, and the Hand, Lord Jon Arryn, had summoned you to court apparently there had been several points of interest. Namely the return of Godscrown, the Valyrian Steel Longsword that sat upon your hip now. You had informed them of your desire to see the return peacefully done, and have the new Lord Lucos Langward accepted into the King’s Peace and see an end to this War of Aggression before the courts of men and the eyes of the Seven. It was all pomp and needless posturing in truth, but at the same time it served purpose. You would look the better man, the True Knight and Lord, returning a priceless family heirloom and looking forward to peace and prosperity with your northern neighbors, it would provide a face and would gain favor with the court and Lord Arryn. But then would come the trial, your trial for reparations. And you were intent upon taking from them anything and everything you possibly could. Titles, lands, wards, coin. You were not planning to be kind. Casting a look back you see Landon Langward, another prisoner of war, as expected he had been with Ser Lestor Langward as his squire, Mason had found him in the war camp, armed with a longsword and trembling with fear, anger, and hate. He had been treated since as you had intended to treat him once he was in your possession in full as ward, with dignity but an armed escort at his side. Ser Jon Pyle had taken to the task, and had informed you several times of the boys outbursts and anger inside his room. He too looked upon as you cast eyes back, the raging storm of anger just under the surface.

Lady Dawn guides you through the streets of King’s Landing, heading your small procession now that the Qorgyle cavalry and Longwaters infantry had broken off to make way to the docks. You shared a brief moment with both, but in truth your mind was occupied elsewhere. In the past three months you had seen your Lady-Wife Obella Qorgyle and daughter Lorelei, perhaps five days of it, and you could feel your want and miss growing with every day. You pushed through the throngs of people to the Malroy Villa, seeing the proud standards of the golden courser drifting idly in the sea winds of early morning beneath the imposing figure of the Red Keep. You wished to have your family home, all of them; Obella, Lorelei, Victus, Dontos, Isis… All of them. The thought sticks in your mind, Isis’ children, your nieces by birth, and Red Bastards spawn by rape and Crown decree. In truth the topic remained one of turmoil in your mind, and you attempt to put it to the side for now for more joyous thoughts instead. Coming upon the gates of the Villa you see her, standing proudly in a summer dress of crimson and gold, holding Lorelei in her arms, her long hair fluttering about in the wind. She flinches slightly when you press into Lady Dawn and ride nearly at full gallop down the small pathway and swing from her at a speed you would in combat. Your attempts to hold down your joy and happiness in seeing her and your daughter well and knowing it would be for a long time brings the pain of wildfire to the corners of the eyes and you can hardly keep it from overflowing when you see her too break her composed and dignified facade and break into tears when you embrace. It was an ugly and beautiful reunion and the two of your laugh together when you press your forehead against hers, cupping a hand behind her head and running your fingers through her hair, all the while Lorelei cooing and babbling between the two of you.

“She missed her father,” Obella finally says after a moment, allowing you to take her from arms and cradle her gently against your chest. Her pools of deep purple reflecting the wildfire of your own as she looks up at you with familiar and knowing eyes. Obella leans into you and kisses your check, “And I did as well. It is good to have you by my side again Brynden.”

You return her kiss, holding her head close to you as you look out about the threadbare and near ruined courtyard of the Villa. Rickard Wence, the Villa’s keeper bows to you curtly, Captain Jonos Strouman and the garrison saluted you and lastly your sister, Isis smiles at you warmly leaving your face an even mightier ruin when you cross to embrace her as well.

The folds of her head scarf brush into your beard and you feel a wave of wroth and joy all at once as she wraps her arms around you, keeping her dignity far better than Obella had. She looks up to you with fondness in her eyes and you are hardly able to stammer out any words.

“Lady Arryn had allowed me a brief respite from my duties to greet my Lord-brother upon his return to King’s Landing,” she explains, “I had thought it time to allow the twins to meet their cousin as well.”

You stiffen slightly at the words, Isis was never lacking for her boldness, and she hadn’t thought to ask your opinion on the matter. When you turn to cast an eye towards Obella she too smiles and nods thoughtfully, dabbing a cloth at her eyes to attempt to save her face. Likely you were in the minority of this opinion, even if in truth you hadn’t truly thought it through to completion yet. Soon.

The rest of your Household Knights, your squires, and prisoners arrive and soon the courtyard, ruined as it was was filled with laughter, and tears, and reunion. Arron hugs his aunt and they share a moment, speaking of the death of Quellon and his father’s injury, her assuring the boy that he was recovering fine. Ser Lucas and Jonos share a drink from the elder man’s hip flask, laughing deeply and embracing as younger men would. Isis stands by your side through it all, holding onto your arm, and watching as you idly play with Lorelei. Rickard Wence approaches you, again bowing to you, before speaking.

“My Lord, the cooks, as poorly supplied as they are, have prepared a luncheon in honor of your arrival, to be served upon the hour. I had thought it best to in that time take the opportunity to speak to you at length regarding the Villa, her restoration, and matters…” he takes a look at Isis who returns it plaintively, “Of a more personal matter. If you would, my Lord.”

Obella approached from behind the man, crossing her arms and giving you a long stare, a wiry smile upon her lips. She had indeed mentioned that she wished the Villa restored, just as much as Rickard had. And they had you pinned. A hard task no less, undoubtedly done by her own hand.

You clear your throat, “Of course Master Rickard,” you say and turning to your sister, whose eyes had fallen upon the Villa, her body stiff and clammy. You remember the horrors all done unto her here and pull her away, handing Lorelei back to Obella with haste and bringing her face close to your own. Her eyes were glazed over her mind seemingly detached and far away.

“Isis?” you ask softly and she slowly comes to, regaining the composure she usually held before sniffling slightly and looking at her feet.

“I’m sorry brother, I… I try to stay strong for you, but this… This place… I-I…” she attempts but you place your hand on her cheek and draw her close again.

“You are stronger than I every waking day Isis,” you say gently, “Your strength is the only reason I may have gone on for so long. Allow me to be yours here. I will not have you bear the burden alone. Not anymore.”

She sniffles again and nods her head, say simply, “Thank you Brynden. I… I think I should return to the Red Keep, with the twins and… Rest.”

You call over two of your Knights, Ser Jon Pryor and Ser Wat Waters, instructing them to escort your sister and the twins back to their temporary home. You promise several times to visit her, as often as possible while you remained in King’s Landing. Though you kept your intentions for her to return home with you mum and close to your chest for now. That deed had as of yet gone undone. And you didn’t want to fill her head with false hope.

You watch them leave, Jon and Wat leading her carriage before turning back to your wife and Rickard. Offering her your arm you motion for Rickard to lead the way to his office though you give the thought a pause for a moment before following after. Obella had no idea what ‘personal matters’ meant, as in Dorian and Cecillia. You had little doubt she would find it of her own accord someday, you don’t keep much from a spy but it was still a matter of your own, a personal thing. A… Mistake made. You grimace slightly and she tilts her head at your pause.

“What is a matter Brynden?” she asks.

Allow Obella to learn about Dorian?
>Yay, she was your wife, she knew of Victus, and you wouldn’t keep things from her only for her to learn later

Yeah Obella hadn't even seduced us yet and Lorelei was a twinkle in our eye.
>>
You squeeze her hand, and shake your head, beginning to follow Rickard and saying, “No… Nothing is wrong, just… Well you’re going to learn something new about me today. I’d prefer you to hear it from my lips rather than Rickard or another.”

She laughs, bidding one of the Hoten girls to come and take Lorelei for her nap, and pushes against you playfully, “I am a spy Lord Malroy. What do you think you can hide from me?”

She pouts slightly when the somewhat seriousness of your face does not fade, and traces your forearm with her fingernail as you speak, “You know of Victus. And of my previous deliances prior to our marriage. Well the truth of it is I have another baseborn child. The personal matters are likely regarding their mother and what will become of them.”

Obella’s face twists up slightly, her eyes darting back and forth as she thought, surprisingly she hadn’t known of Dorian. She turns to you fully and smiles, “Brynden where I am from?”

You shake your head, giving her a queer look, “Dorne?”

“Yes, Dorne, you silly man,” she says with a laugh, “Bastards are not what they are here in the rest of Westeros. If you’ve another child there is no need to hide them from me. Though I am greatly appreciative of you telling me the truth of the matter, it was such needlessly hidden knowledge. You are a man that loves his family, I see no reason why you would not do the same for them,” she says, soothing your worries with a rub of your arm, “Tell me, is it a boy or girl?”

“A boy,” you say, taking the corner that lead to the hallway where Rickard’s office was, he opens the door for the two of you and you take a seat and Obella curls up upon your lap, weaving her fingers into your hair.

“His name?”

“Dorian, his mother named him.”

“A handsome name,” she says with more laughter, “Master Rickard?” she asks, turning her face towards the man halfway between him taking his seat and attempting to avoid the rather awkward position the two of you sat considering, “Tell me of this boys mother. Where is she, what can we do for her?”

Rickard Wence gives her a look before breaking and sitting and muttering to himself, apparently Obella had already gotten to him during the time she had spent here, and the man was half a wreck attempting to deal with your forward, bold, dornish wife.

“Well my Lady, my Lord,” he finally manages out finding a letter and smoothing it out before himself, “As you know my Lord, Cecillia, has been relocated to Maidenpool, where she finds service to Lord Mooton underneath the guidance of my sister.”

“You sent her away?” Obella asks you.

“At the request of my uncle,” you respond stiffly.

“And at my discretion my Lady,” Rickard adds, “The poor girl was better off away from King’s Landing, her mother had abandoned her, it was all quite a mess. I thought it better her there.”

Obella tuts and Rickard continues.
>>
“My Lord I thought it best to bring it to your attention that the girl has been receiving some troubles, being a mother with no husband to attend to her, has led to ehr being harassed by some of the less than desirable members of Maidenpool. She often cries and wallows before my sister, wishing to return to King’s Landing or better yet to serve you in Steadhold. I think the idea poorly, and I had assumed you would as well.”

Obella is the first to respond, “I see no reason why the girl could not serve her in the Villa? Find her a proper husband. Is… Is the boy not recognized Brynden?”

You cough, and an air of silence holds over the room for awhile, “It was at Dontos’ insistence. He thought another bastard would ruin my chances to find a wife. He made me promise to not recognize the boy, to keep him hidden away.”

Your wife’s face scrunches up with annoyance, “That is utterly ridiculous Brynden. The boy need know his father. Your uncle had no right to make you promise such things.”

“It was a more difficult time Obella,” you state simply, lacking a better defense, “He spoke true then, it was all before we had ever even met. He threatened to leave if I did otherwise, I could not lose him.”

Obella’s eyes lower, her hand fiddling with a button upon your doubt, “I… I suppose it makes sense but… I find it needless now Brynden.”

“If you would excuse me my Lady,” Rickard says, “In defense of my Lord we did what was necessary at the time. I no more like to see a child separated from its father, but it better to be with his mother now. The girl was half in love with my Lord, it was not healthy for her to be here.”

Obella clearly does not like the situation, her face somewhat annoyed but wrought with emotion as well.

“What do you need from me, Rickard,” you state, to push the topic on.

“Coin my Lord,” he says without much else to the thought, “Perhaps two hundred dragons so that Cecillia may have a suitably high… dowry if you would, so that she may find a good husband and that the boy will have a future. My sister recommends one of three options; a Knight, a master blacksmith, or the Motherhouse of Maris in the Vale. The knight, a Ser Carver Rivers, the Bastard of Macebel, is long in service to House Mooton, she claims him a good a man, a better Knight, and would treat her with respect. He would take on the boy when he comes of an age as a squire and hopefully he too would become a Knight someday. The blacksmith is known as Master Bartimos, he currently holds favor with Lord Mooton, and would take child on as an apprentice when he came of an age. She would be well taken care of, the man, while not rich, is certainly skilled and she would be comfortable. Lastly, finding her a place at the Motherhouse of Maris in the Vale would lead her to a life of solitude, but far away from the men that now plague her, amongst the Faith. The boy would just as like grow into a Septon amongst the Faith.”
>>
Obella sighs, shifting slightly in your lap, “I agree we should do whatever it takes to see that your son and the poor girl are looked after Brynden. But I think you should allow them to return here to the Villa. I’m sure I can find suitable replacements for the options Master Rickard has surely put much time and effort into finding. But regardless you should recognize him as your own. Victus is as much example as I should not to give to show that regardless of the parentage of your children you love them, and wish for them the best. I have no doubt the poor girl would see less harassment if they knew that her child was that of a powerful and influential Lord. And maybe someday he could come to Steadhold, to serve his Lord-father and get to know the man.”

‘I would advise against it my Lord,” Rickard says though his voice cracks slightly when Obella fixes him with a hard stare, “You would only cause the girl and child more issue to bring them back here. Allow them to stay in Maidenpool, she can move on there, and grow into a better life, but never here. As for recognizing him, I have no opinion I can offer my Lord. Besides that of his uncle, my apologies.”

Sometimes you forgot Obella’s age. While she had seen the world and was aware of its horrors and the unjustness of it all, she still held onto a glimmer of idealism. Perhaps in Dorne it would be as such, that you could so openly recognize the child, and do so much for him with an open hand before everyone. But here… Here in the Crownlands you had your uncle to worry for, he would no doubt be wroth you went back on your promise, the opinion of other Lords, and the Hand, and the insult some might think you meant towards your wife by recognizing another son, while she had bore you a daughter. It was all political posturing in the end. Could you afford such things now?

Sighing deeply you place your hand on Obella’s where it still remains, idly playing with your buttons, she looks at you but then casts her eyes down slightly when she realizes the long upon your face, you speak, “I am sorry Obella, but the girl has gone through enough because of me. She deserves a good life, away from this place, she will remain in Maidenpool with Dorian. Rickard, does your sister believe this Ser Carver to be of true quality? That he will treat her well and give Dorian the proper training he deserves?”

“Yes my Lord, she does, she has spoken most highly of Ser Carver in her letters. And in truth she believes the girl smittened with him as well. More than once she’s caught her watching him in the yard as opposed to doing her duties about the House.”

You nod silently, before simply stating, “I’ll see to it the coin reaches you upon the morrow Rickard. Be sure to write to Steadhold when it is done.”

“Of course my Lord,” Rickard says, scribbling a small note on the letter his sister had sent, circling a name.

“But… Will you recognize him at least Brynden?” Obella asks after a brief silence.

“I will not,” you say, and she slumps against you, her hand slipping from your own, “I cannot. I made promise to my uncle to not. They do not need me meddling in their lives anymore than I already have Obella. We are not in Dorne.”

“Do what you think is best husband,” she responds into your chest, “He is not my child. I only feel for him that he may never know your warmth as Victus and Lorelei and our future children will.”

She sighs, and sits upright again, less playful than before, turning her head to Rickard who is fidgeting with his quill to avoid eye contact after the touchy subject.

“Master Rickard?” she says, “Do you perhaps have another topic to discuss?”

Seven Hells, you silently curse to yourself, she leans back towards you, placing her elbow on your shoulder so you could not rise. Rickard finally regains himself and the sour stern look he usually kept forms on his face.

“My Lord,” he says firmly, “As I have mentioned numerous times before, the Villa is in dire need of funds. So that we may rebuild, clean, and bring it back to its former glory. The entire western wing remains closed off, hardly has it been touched in the two years since the Sack.”

Obella speaks, “I am in agreeance with Master Rickard, husband. The Villa should not be some place of ruin and rot as it is now. The Malroys should not give such frightful forward appearance to the Lords and Ladies that pass through King’s Landing, not everyone can see the great strides you have taken in Steadhold, all they see is this. And my Ladies would certainly appreciate the place during their travels as well. And Master Rickard has been more than patient with us, do you not think?”
>>
He had, in truth, been incredibly patient. The Villa hadn’t ever been a priority, there was a time you almost had sold it as well. But perhaps they were right, it was time to put a better face forward. That is what ever felt as of late.

“What do you require Rickard?”

He hms and haws for a moment before settling on an ask, “Four hundred dragons my Lord. It would be enough to refurbish and hire on new staff, the bare minimum and we will be well for it my Lord. I would also recommend a garrison perhaps? My eldest son and the former garrison died during the Sack, yet grandson remains and wishes to serve the Malroys as the Wences have for years.”

Obella snorts slightly, “Master Rickard is too good of a man to ask, but I would say we could do better Brynden. Double the coin, and make the Villa a place of true worth as it once was. Rebuild, refurbish, hire on twice as many staff. Make it a place that feels like home, as it once was? It would aid my Ladies greatly as well, and a true secondary seat in the capital for the Malroys. I would also greatly agree with adding a garrison here, Captain Jonos has been more than helpful, but I know he yearns for home and wishes he had been amongst Steadhold’s defenders, train them as you would those that remain in your standing army, true and proper.”

You tapping your silver ring upon the edge of the chair in thought, you could afford the expense now. The war with the Langwards had given you ample funds, and no doubt the coin you’d taken from them in the future during the trial would fill your coffers just as well and quickly help you recover. You tsk and look up at Rickard Wence, and his face his face fills with anticipation.

Rolled 3 (1d6)

Alright so during House Fortunes we now have a +4 to Influence which translates to a +1D6 anytime we roll for House Fortunes.

We are down to 2 wealth now, but that'll chance, potentially, after the trial. Next month we have our -1 Wealth debt, but even on a bad House Fortunes roll we're doing pretty well.

Also, the roll on this post is for how many months the Villa takes to rebuild, and I'll subtract 20% because of the Engineer holding.

Next up is what to do with the Langly situation, so big post that might take me a minute.

“Your grandson will find a place of command amongst a true and trained company of garrison Rickard. I swear it, what’s the lad’s name?”

“Rory, Rory Wence,” he says with pride.

“Have Rory begin to find able men about King’s Landing,” you say, “My Lady-wife will see to it they are vetted. And I will send a few of my Knights to train the lads, proper and true, within six months, I swear it.”

“Thank you my Lord, I am sure the servants, and my family will sleep better knowing it.”

“As for the reconstruction, I lean towards agreeing with my Lady-Wife once more, the Villa deserves to be a proper place for the Malroys, and for your good and patient service Rickard I will have another eight hundred dragons sent to you. Rebuild, refurbish, hire as many staff as you need. My chief engineer, Rolf Harling, will be available to aid in the reconstruction of any of the delipidated sections of the Villa. And I trust your judgment when it comes to matters of furniture and the like.”

“Though I do not,” Obella says with a playful tone, “I will aid in this Master Rickard.”

“I thank you both my Lord, my Lady. I am but your humble servant, but I am glad to be able to see the Malroys rebuilt and strong again.”

“And I thank you for your service and patience Master Rickard,” you respond and the man cracks a smile and bows his head again.

You hammer out any smaller details that may be necessary of the course of the hour before returning to the main hall to partake in luncheon with Obella, Lucas and his Knights, Jonos and his garrison, and Obella’s ladies. It is a simple affair but one filled with some joy throughout the three courses. The first that of tuna tartare, served upon black rice crackers with crisped shallots, preserved lemons, and chives served with a chilled sweet golden wine from Lys. The second was that of a roasted chicken breast, plump and juicy with the skin just perfectly crisped, upon a bed of morels, chanterelles, fava beans, and summer peas accompanied by a golden yellow bread filled with golden raisins, covered in a velvety and rich pan sauce served with a rose vintage from the Arbor. Apparently Obella had been expanding your wine options though curiously had not partaken of any herself. The last was a sweet lemon custard upon rhubarb and raspberry jam inside of a flaky pie crust. It was a meal you saviored, surrounded by many that you loved and cared for. Though you knew full well that there was another, much more grand feast to occur next month. Where the entirety of your family would be. At home. Where they belonged.

Obella and you walk to the room that had become Lorelei’s nursery within the Villa. Her wetnurse had the babe at her breast, the Norvoshi guard that Obella kept, Zaro Hoten, looming large with his axe held at the ready before them. The man hardly passes you a glance but bows deeply to Obella as she passes.
>>
The two of you wish for some privacy, and to simply enjoy each others company for a moment and make your way to the master suite, Obella had seemingly taken it over for her extended stay, the smell of incense weighed heavily upon the air. Her drapes and tapestries covered the room and it felt like her tent that you had first made love in all those months ago. She places her head upon your shoulder, wrapping her arms around your body, carefully undoing the buttons to your doublet as she pushes you towards the bed, her laughter playful and longing. You spin around, holding her hands over her head and she pouts at you before you take her in a passionate and deep kiss. She struggles free, pushing you and you fall upon the bed where she is immediately upon you, her dress hiked up around her waist, her breasts having fallen from the dornish silken thing. You look up at her, her eyes the same beautiful pool of purple that your daughter shared, her face twisted upon in an unknown emotion. She stops her advances, resting one hand upon your chest the other upon her belly.

“Brynden… Brynden I missed my moon’s blood, a week past,” she says simply, eyes cast down, her lower lip trembles slightly, “I… I don’t want you to be alarmed or to get your hopes up too much but… But I think I am with children again.”

You sit up upon your elbows, face dumbfounded but which quickly melts to joy, “Obella I… I am- We,” you laugh, pulling her head towards you, but she resists slightly her face still a mixture of raw emotions.

“Brynden I was not supposed to be,” she says plainly, “My Prince requires me in just under a year. It was hard enough to know I’d be leaving you and Lorelei, but to know that I may leave another? And what if my strength has not returned to me after the birth? It… It is all too close and I-I-I… Seven Brynden. I love you, and our children, but I am a fool of a woman, all emotion and no thought-” she says bursting into tears again and falling onto your chest, you wrap your arms around her and hold her close, the woman you love was still the cunning, intelligent spy mistress you had known, arrogant and dignified in her own way, but since you had known her fully you saw the raw emotions of the young woman that still lie underneath, she had lost during your wars, and the added ties of children and yourself and of the weight of being the Lady of Steadhold to her duties to Dorne had made them come bubbling up more of late.
>>
She sniffles, pulling her arms to her chest, and pressing the wet tip of her nose against your bare chest, you remain silent throughout and she speaks again, “I would not ever think to suggest to take of moon tea Brynden. To assure you that I would not. I plan to see this through if I am truly with child again but I will need you more than ever to promise me that you will be there with our children while I am away. No wars, no tourneys, a visit to King’s Landing perhaps but… That is all. I need you Brynden so that I know they are safe.”

You run your hands through her hair, allowing silence to fall upon the room, she sighs, sitting up straight taking your hands in hers, and placing it upon her breast. You feel her nipple react to your soft caresses and she leans into them, her eyes half lidded. You do not know if you can promise such things now. If this war with the Red Bastard is not done by then you could ill afford to wait the three months for him to continue gathering his strength that she would be gone for. She knew you could not answer as well, though she wished it, but instead leans down over you again, carefully kissing about your chest missing where you had been wounded not so long ago. Your hands go to her thighs, roughly pulling her towards you and she giggles, a childish playful giggle before again you are intertwined in a deep kiss.

---

You lie upon the bed, out of breath and sweaty, the day was at its hottest and you certainly felt it now. Obella idly plays upon your chest, her body curled against yours, your seed leaking from between her thighs and onto the bed sheets. She sighs, rolling away after a moment longer in the afterglow and sits up, taking a brush from the nightstand and beginning to fix her mess of hair before turning back slightly to speak to you.

“Brynden, as much as I do enjoy our time together I did think to speak to you privately of something else. Specifically of my spies in the Langward’s domains.”

You sit up on your side, propping yourself up with an elbow, “And what of them?”

She turns away again, standing and picking from several missives and letters upon her trunk before coming back with three and laying them out upon the bed, careful to miss the wet spots. She says, “Well as you are well aware I have taken the liberty to gain traction there during the chaos and upheaval following the death of their Lord and his brother marching to war. We have a solid foothold now, but of course there are several things that need done so that we may assure they never think to take up arms against us again or better yet to maintain the state of flux they find themselves in now and never truly recover.”

And there she was again, that cunning intelligent woman you loved, she sits looking at you pridefully smiling her little devilish smile before she continues.
>>
“As it stand we have several avenues in which we may potentially pursue, luckily one of them willingly gave himself over to you and provides the best route to maintain as I spoke of.”

“Ser Lyonel?” you ask.

“Mhm,” she replies with a nod and picking from the papers she had laid out, “As luck would have it, Ser Lyonel had found himself incredibly bored in Steadhold when he was locked up in your towers. Fortunately for him however, Lady Julianna took a liking to him, and several strokes later, while let us say he is firmly under thumb. He speaks like a madman she says, but apparently enjoys when she takes control. No less than five times has he spoken of staking his claim to Langward, either through marriage or war and keeping Lady Julianna as his personal bed warmer. He seems to care little for his family, and only his own power. I believe he would be an incredibly useful pawn, if a bit unstable.”

You knew that much about the man at least, he desired only power, and more of it. If he were unleashed upon the land following the trial, reparations and the now since passed war no doubt he would take up much of where the Langwards had lost and keep a healthy pressure on the new young Lord.

“What of the Tear?” you ask.

“Well, while he was disinherited from it. And his younger sister, the Lady Lysana Langly, has given birth to her and Ser Lestor’s child, a girl named Lyra Langward. While the mother remains weak and frail, their daughter is strong. News of their standing army being decimated during the war with you has begun to spread and many have begun to dessert her now, still others, being aware of Ser Leo Langly still being alive but held captive by yourself call for his release so that he may bring stability to the lands again, and surely he would. I think that a poor choice, but his fate remains with us.”

Flopping back into the pillows you mule over the thoughts, at one point you had thought to perhaps march upon the Tear and take it yourself. Give it you Lucas or another of your Knights and have them swear it to you. Still it was an option and when you say as much to Obella she scrunches up her face before nodding back and forth slightly.

“It would be an option love, though certainly one that fits your style far more than mine. The girl however, the newborn, she does have, albeit far away, a claim upon both Langward and the Tear. If she were to marry to Lucas’ or Ser Jon’s child, I am sure it would aid in keeping the Langwards upon the sidelines.”

“Like as might,” you respond, though have conflicting thoughts regarding the notion of attempting to convince your allies to marry an enemy House like that. You turn slightly towards Obella and ask, “Tell me, what are you ideal plans.”

She smiles and places her brush down, “There are a few love...”

Obella’s Plans for dealing with the Langly’s

Plan A:
Utilizing Lyonel Langly as a rogue agent by having him become the Knight of the Tear and have public and open power in order to cause chaos in the Langward domains.
This would include…
>Exile, the Wall, or execution for his father Ser Leo Langly.
>Backing Lyonel’s claim to the Tear, this would indebt him to you the most, and make dealing with him easier
>Dealing with his sister, Lady Lysana Langly, and her daughter, Lyra Langward in some way
>Dealing with a rogue agent in secret, attempting to persuade him into actions favorable for you through the use of blackmail, sex, and under the table support
>Never having true control of the Tear but maximizing chaos and destabilizing Lord Lucos Langward’s rule
>The potential for it to go sideways, this is a dangerous game you’re playing and Lyonel isn’t subtle, if things go wrong there is the potential for it to backfire and flak hit you

Plan B:
Utilizing Lyonel Langly as a rogue agent, but taking the Tear for yourself, effectively making Lyonel a landless Knight and he’d turn to being an outlaw to cause chaos in the Langward domains.
This would include…
>Exile, the Wall, or execution for his father Ser Leo Langly.
>Taking the Tear via force, and landing your own Knight there (Likely Lucas, for 10 Power), this would result in Lyonel disliking you and make dealing with him more difficult
>Dealing with his sister, Lady Lysana Langly, and her daughter, Lyra Langward in some way
>Dealing with an outlaw in secret, attempting to persuade him into actions favorable for you through the use of blackmail, sex, and under the table support
>Dealing with Langward/Langly loyalist revolts, and the potential for Lord Lucos Langward to outright attack the Tear in an attempt to reclaim it.
>Your neighbors and other political opposition will take it as the Malroys being power/land hungry, likely it will not be viewed overly favorably
>Having true control of the Tear but with a smaller amount chaos and destabilization of Lord Lucos Langward’s rule as Lyonel will have no direct power to call upon
>The potential for it to go sideways, this is a dangerous game you’re playing and Lyonel isn’t subtle, if things go wrong there is the potential for it to backfire and flak hit you, potentially harder than Plan A
>>
Plan C:
Do not deal with Lyonel at all, and taking the Tear for yourself.
This would include…
>Framing Lyonel for patricide, exiling him, or letting him rot in Steadhold’s dungeons to be forgotten
>Exile, the Wall, or execution for his father Ser Leo Langly.
>Taking the Tear via force, and landing your own Knight there (Likely Lucas, for 10 Power).
>Dealing with his sister, Lady Lysana Langly, and her daughter, Lyra Langward in some way
>Dealing with Langward/Langly loyalist revolts, and the potential for Lord Lucos Langward to outright attack the Tear in an attempt to reclaim it.
>Your neighbors and other political opposition will take it as the Malroys being power/land hungry, likely it will not be viewed overly favorably
>Having true control of the Tear but with little to no amount of chaos and destabilization of Lord Lucos Langward’s rule

I’m not going to put the vote up for this just yet as I believe it is a very large decision and there will be questions regarding it. Please do note, that there is a lot in here that would very well be considered illegal or worthy of starting a war. Obella’s agents are good but dealing with Lyonel has its own dangers. There is also the option to mix and match here or take a different direction entirely.

So the floor is open for discussion, questions, clarifications, etc. I’ll do my best to answer everything as best and as clearly as I can.

Also yay Obella's pregnant more Malroy children get hype.

Langward will be reduced to a fraction of his old strength after the trial anyway, right? Especially since with all of these plans we'd take the Tear from being their banner as well. I don't personally see too much use in causing chaos in his lands after this is all well and done with.

How many houses/important people we know of have a claim on the Tear?

Incorrect. Plan A they will remain banners of the Langwards, just have support of the Malroys.

Ser Leo Langly, Ser Lyonel Langly, Lady Lysana Langly, and Lyra Langward. Those are the major 4 claimants.

Personally, I'm very much for putting one of our own men in control of the Tear. I'm actually banking on Lucos eventually attacking whoever we land there, so than we can destroy House Langward utterly in retaliation. We'll need to ensure whoever we land there is well protected, and possibly lend some of our own troops there until he's on his feet as well.

This is spy and sabotuer games with Obella. Your spy mistress. Who has taken it upon herself to provide the ever wrathful Brynden with options to continue fucking the Langwards. Safe isn't in the current conversation. Besides, this is Westeros. This is war. And we're playing the setting here. Not every option is going to be safe.

>>3670623
Either would be the same difficulty. You'll still have to take and maintain control over the Tear. B just has dealing with Lyonel as well.

>>3670625
Strictly speaking yes. But Obella didn't particularly count on her husband suddenly not wanting to continue taking wrathful revenge. As in I didn't, because there was so much talk of doing anything we could to eradicate the Langwards from previous threads. And some might call it a missed opportunity.
>>
>>3670641
I take the best case scenario is that the Langward keeps it and we keep the Langwards as our bitches.
>>
Alright seeing as we don't really have a lot of discussion on the topic I'm just going to go ahead and put it to a vote. We'll do some subvotes after.

Plan C seems the safest bet. All we really have to worry about is some mouthy peasants. Spreading rumors of the dangers of the Malroy's wrath should be enough to quell any rebellions. And then give the option of the carrot by treating the smallfolk well. And the neighbors won't worry about our ambition if they can get riches or status by dealing with our powerful house.

Well, last time the other anons convince me not to deal with Lyonel. So, if I had to vote right now I would go for C, maybe keep the heiress of the tear around to marry someone in our household to secure the claim to the year permanently.

I don't care much for extinguishing the Langwards if they are crippled and impoverished. The animosity it would cause from other houses (in addition to that of taking the Test) would not be worth it.
>>
>>3670658
>Plan C
>>
>>3670641
I appreciate playing the setting, just stating that all of these options could have some very serious blowback if shit hits the fan. But you gotta play if you want to win, and I know Brynden really likes winning
>>
Alright, looks like Option C then. I'm going to get dinner real quick then I'll start writing. Going to do the reparations trial next.
>>
Oh wait never mind, gotta do subvotes. So if we're going to with Option C that means we need to deal with both Leo and Lyonel right now so that neither can make a claim on the Tear once we take it, and are effectively out of the picture.

So Ser Leo Langly is effectively at your whim. He was found guilty of aiding Linden and you have full control over how he goes. The man is heavily disfigured, but alive and technically still the Knight of The Tear.

Dealing with Ser Leo Langly:
>Public Execution
>Private Execution (so you control the narrative)
>Let him rot in Steadhold's dungeons
>Send him to the Wall
>Exile him to Essos
>Write-in? (Specify)

Meanwhile Ser Lyonel Langly has a bit more clout. He did aid you greatly in proving Linden was guilty and he did it with the price of being given his freedom afterwards and likely to retake what he thought was his. Doing anything to him here, depending upon who you ask, is dishonorable regardless of the man in question. While his father disinherited him he could very easily get the backing of another neighbor or even the Crown to retake the Tear so you'll need to do something to take him out of the equation effectively and not have it link back to you as an outright murder or dishonorable act outside of good faith.

Dealing with Ser Lyonel Langly:
>Frame him for patricide (Private Execution option from above) and execute him
>Frame him for patricide (Private Execution option from above) and send him to the Wall
>Frame him for patricide (Private Execution option from above) and send him to Exile
>Exile him

Sending to the Wall is effectively the same as killing from a perspective of players of the game, but less blood vengeances involved. Killing ned was what brought down Joffery.

Lord Commander Qorgyle is our uncle? Well he dies in three years time so we'll see if that's a peaceful death or a more violent one.

Sorry I should have said that the Private execution and framing were already locked in. That and the sudden burst of single post ids all voting for the same thing is fishy. Sorry. Writing.

You explain your decision to Obella, the entire thing seemingly dangerous regardless of how you dealt with it. The plan to simply be done with Lyonel and his father, framing the former for patricide within the walls of Steadhold and then sending him to her Uncle upon the wall. There he would no longer harm anyone, and if he ran, whether his mouth or by foot. The former would fall upon deaf ears. The latter causing his head to fall. Either way, that’s the end of two of the major claimants of The Tear and it would effectively allow you to sweep in unopposed and take the lands yourself. You would deal with Lady Lysana and her newborn, if they had not thought to flee the island yet, when they were under your control. It was a dangerous game to play, one yet still of war, but with political ramifications now. You had to hide not only the private execution of Ser Leo, but also build a frame job worthy of deterring questions for Ser Lyonel. And then you would need to occupy, defend, and ultimately take over yet another domain of your enemy. It would be seen as power hungry, as if the Malroys would never be sated in their quest to build land and power and see the Langwards put to an end. Likely you’d make few friends of the neighboring Lords doing such, the Thornes already disliked you but it would reflect poorly to the Chytterings, Hoggs, and Stokeworths as well.

For her part Obella looks… Annoyed. She snatches the papers up, gathering a sheet across her body and crossing to a candle where she begins to burn each paper one by one. You sit up upon the edge of the bed watching her in confusion.

“Do you not trust me Brynden?” she throws back over her shoulder, hardly giving you a look.

“I- What? Of course I do, I would not be able to handle the particulars of this without you,” you respond.

“Then why do you so willing throw my hard work away? To the frozen bloody Wall!” she snaps back, “Lyonel was an asset. A good one! He would have ruined the Langwards without you ever having to lift a finger but to direct, and now the most I get out of months of work, of Julianna almost having her teat bit off by the man, is to put together a simple frame so you can put your trust solely in Lucas, the war afixed twit that he is, instead! Why even bother have spies and saboteurs if you do not intend to use them Brynden! Seven you could have had the best of both and I would happily work with him, but no... Am I supposed to just stand here, pregnant and barefoot for you, and only use my skills on the most simple of tasks!?”

You sit, slightly taken aback by the outburst, her eyes flash back at you when she finishes burning the papers. Anger clearly upon them, her lip trembling. When you don’t immediately respond she throws her arms up in the air, catching the sheet before it would fall and stalking off behind her drapes to put her clothing back on and fix her hair.
>>
“I am not some simple pretty girl Brynden,” she says as the silence looms over the room, “What I do is for the good of this House, for you. I had thought perhaps you would listen to me now, without the audience of others to color your decisions. But if my hard work is not wanted nor regarded as highly as man who swings a sword for you then I will not bother to do it,” she crosses again and drops a small pile of letters upon your lap, “This is everything I could find on Royce for the past six months, enjoy. I am going to take a bath. And I wish to be left alone.”

She storms out of the room, slamming the door behind her and you do little more than look down upon the pile of letters she had thrown upon your lap. Rare it was to find yourself lacking for words, your wroth quelled by the hurt upon her voice. Seven Hells… You knew the woman was prickly with pride, her arrogance regarding her work, and the quality of it was well deserved. It was not as if you didn’t trust her, that was not the case at all. Lyonel was just simply too much of a rogue element to handle. It was messy. All of it was. And Obella had done her best to make some sort plan of it to make sense of it all, to please the man that often grumbled and raged at how he would put an end to all of those that had wronged him and his family. You sigh deeply, knowing full well and good you would need to make it up to her. This was an anger born of hurt, of feeling put aside in favor of outright war. In your heart you felt you made the right decision but convincing her of that would be a more difficult thing.

Placing the letters to the side you stand, finding your clothes and dressing casting an eye upon them occasionally. What would they say you wondered. Would you even understand the words her spies used. You pick one up breaking the black scorpion seal and read. Nothing. He sat in his hall. The second, much the same. Nothing. Travel to King’s Landing. Nothing. Travel home. Nothing. What in the Seven fucking Hells was he doing. And you came upon the last, a letter crumpled and worn. But it too, read nothing.

“FUCKING SEVEN HELLS!” you yell in anger. Knocking over a basin of water, it shattering on the ground. You felt like you had won. You still had. But every damnable time, every bloody fucking time. How could he be doing nothing you raged, what was going on that he would be fucking uselessly silent! Your nostrils flare with every breath and you pick up the letters roughly between clenched fingers, stalking from the room to your solar. More letters waited for you there. One from Master Saul Cromwell telling you your reparations trial would be held tomorrow morn. You were hardly in the mood at this point but all the same read over the notes you had given you in preparation.

---
>>
The night and morning had been an icy affair. Obella refused to speak, though kept her place by your side. When you had taken bed with her during the night, she rolled away, within her own pile of blankets and you were left to the coldness of your own side with your rolling turmoil and anger. In the morning she had gotten up early and was nowhere to be found until breakfast where she sat and quietly broke her fast beside you. You inform your collected Household of what the day would bring, and to be upon their best and wearing their finest. Your uncle arrives nearly an hour before the trial itself, clad in his black plate mail, a man bearing the sigil of House Langward upon his breast beside him. Ser Silas Langward, you were told. He would give testimony to the orders of his cousins, the former Lord Linden and Ser Lestor, and then allowed to plead for his own sentencing to be merciful, with Dontos taking a hand in it as well. You cared little, knowing that the trial was little more than a formality now. The Crown knew, Ser Jaime Lannister had seen. It was all but a show.

The court is packed this morning, Lords and Ladies of the realm watching on as you walk down the grand hall in your finest. You wore Donold’s scale cloak today, but otherwise your finer garments. Obella beside you wore a dress of black and red, holding onto your arm but keeping her eyes forward before breaking off to take her seat. Behind you Arron Qorgyle walks, Godscrown held between both of his hands within its scabbard, wrapped in silk. And before you stood the young Lord Lucos. He was in his mid-teens. And the look he placed upon you was nothing less than malice. Spite. Hatred. He would not forget what you had done. Nor what you were to do.

You stood silently as Master Saul Cromwell read out the crimes that House Langward was accused of. Your men testify, Lords and Ladies of the realm testify, your uncle, prisoners, men and women of birth noble and small, and lastly Ser Silas. His words ring truer than most. Openly admitting to the crimes he was forced to participate it. At the end he throws himself upon the mercy of the Crown. Your uncle taking a stand for him, and begging the man be sentenced to exile. The Hand whispers to the King. And he nods his head, throwing his hand up in a lazy manner, he could not care, and Ser Silas is escorted from the room. A free, but exiled man. You think it queer. But do not dwell upon it as your name is called.
>>
Before the King and Queen, Lords and Ladies, noble and common, eyes of men and gods you fall to a single knee. Bowing before them, deeply and with a flourish. You turn to Lucos, taking the sword from Arron and hold it out before him speaking, “I wish to offer House Langward the chance to re-enter the King’s Peace. To put the wars and animosity between our Houses behind us. So that we may enter an age of peace and prosperity under King Robert I Baratheon. I would be the first to ask that the son is not tried for the crimes of the father. And in doing this I openly give him his father’s sword and heirloom, back with my sincerest of apologies.”

The boy looks to you still, his eyes gave it away he thought it a trick, but upon seeing the sword partial unsheathed is upon it quickly, snapping it back and hugging it closely to his chest. He backs away, unsure of you still and retakes his place. Lord Arryn going to speak.

“As Hand of the King it is my solemn duty to preside over such matters. By the King’s decree the House Langward of Langward is welcomed back into the King’s Peace.”

The crowd murmurs, and Lucos deflates slightly, looking relieved. You only smile, allowing it to cross your lips slowly as you stood, the boy was too young to understand what the phrase, ‘waiting for the other shoe to drop,’ meant. And you knew as well as any that Lord Arryn was incredibly capable of such.

“Provided they see to the reparations due to the good and honorable House Malroy for such egregious, unlawful, and bloody war that they have brought upon their lands this past year and a half. Lord Malroy, your demands?”

The crowd is in a minor uproar over this, the boy stands shocked, looking between yourself, the Lord Hand and the sword now in his hand. You think him half a mind to unsheathe it down and attempt to cut you down. But merely stands, quiet, mouth ajar. You clear your throat, taking a step before them…

On Obella getting angry. This was mostly a accumulation of several events where Brynden picked the "safe" option over what Obella would offer or attempt as an alternative. She is a spy, she is dornish, she is dangerous, and as such she sees those options as viable, as the cultural norms of the rest of Westeros as strange. She thinks of Brynden highly for typically living outside of those norms, but feels looked over when it comes to major decisions or things she's had a part in and thus the snap. She is still young, and her arrogance is something that fuels a lot of her. A character can get angry and will, the honeymoon period doesn't last forever. And that's all the more I'll say on that.

“My people starve Lord Hand,” you start simply though it was not entirely true now, “Their homes remain in ruin, numerous among them have died or suffered during the Langward War of Aggression. I ask first that I may be granted food, coin, supplies, all in which to rebuild from the devastation that was brought upon my people, their lands, and my home.”

“Granted,” Lord Arryn says in response, “You will be allotted two thousand golden dragons worth of goods at your discretion Lord Malroy. My own Lord Steward will see to it himself. A second, Lord Malroy?”

“My second is that of lands. Of the fertile and generous lands to the northwest of my holdings known as the Honeyrun. It is a land now wrought with destruction, picked clean by an army looking towards my home. Their people suffer much in the same way as mine own have and many in the wake of this war have already come to my lands seeking refugee, hearth, and home. I would see to it the Honeyrun is rebuilt, governed fairly and that any bandits or deserters yet remaining are stamped out and an end brought to such tumultuous times in the Crownlands. I point to my ability to once again control the Princewood, as cause and justification of my ability to this, the people their now live without fear and with a true Lord.”

The deliberation is equally short as the first, Lord Arryn again respond, “Granted. The lands known as the Honeyrun shall thus forth be governed by House Malroy of Steadhold granting them all incomes that it would bring. A third, Lord Malroy?”
>>
You cast your eyes to your left, watching the young Lord Lucos froth with anger. His eyes remain upon the floor. His lips tightly shut. You turn again to speak.

“My third of that of title. The title of Lord Marshal of the Southron God’s Eye River is a title long steeped in history, given by House Hoare to House Langward years prior to Aegon’s Conquest. It is a title that demands much of its bearer. That he be good and just in his governing of these lands and that he does not bring upon them needless conflict nor poverty nor strife. Since my return the lands about the God’s Eye River I call mine own have prospered under my guidance. Where as those of the late Lord Linden’s have suffered through those maladies I had just spoken of. As Lord Marshal I would once again bring prestige to the title, and do honor to its history and name.”

The crowd is murmuring again, as the deliberation between the King and the Hand goes on a touch longer than it had before. This was not about ruining the Langwards, it was for your own ego. You knew it to be true. But it would give the young Lord false hope that you were done, to take something that had belonged to his family for so long and was so obviously born of your own spite and pettiness. But oh no, you were not done, Lord Arryn raises a hand for quiet and states, loudly, resoundingly, “Granted. I confer upon you Lord Brynden Malroy, Lord of Steadhold, Knight Anointed in the Light of the Seven, the title of Lord Marshal of the Southron God’s Eye River. And may your heirs inherit such as well. A fourth, Lord Malroy?”

You turn on heel and wave forward Ser Jon Pryor whose hand rests upon Landon Langward’s shoulder. He brings the boy forward, his face quiet for now, until he looks upon his brother whose eyes do not meet his own, instead staring upon the floor, glazed over and miles away.

“A fourth and final. The Langward War of Aggression, took much and many from me. My family. My people. To assure that such things never occur again I ask that I be given leave to take Landon Langward, his brother’s heir, as my ward. That he may be raised as a true and proper son of a noble House, far away from the vile madness that infected his father, uncle, and distant relatives all the same. We found this boy amongst the dredges and campsite of Ser Lestor Langward outside of my castle walls, forced to his uncles lunacy and wars, taught by a man not without skill but without honor or clarity of mind. He would serve as squire to mine own Ser Lucas Longwaters, a Knight of great repute and skill. And would be taught by mine own Maester Benjin, as all noble sons should be. I hope to bring a peace between our Houses for the foreseeable future, and I believe this the best form of reconciliation, Lord Hand.”
>>
Landon’s face looks that of dread but quickly turns to anger when he realizes what you intend for him. He almost goes to strike at you, held back by Jon Pryor’s hand. You watch him, studying his face and it brings about a distant memory. Like looking into a pool of water, a mirrored reflection of your own anger in youth. You hardly hear the crowd as you look at the boy and see so much of yourself in him. Seven. You hoped to do better by the boy that you had felt done by in your youth.

“Granted,” Lord Arryn says resoundingly, “May no more war come between the lands and Houses of Malroy and Langward. And reconciliation and friendship be fostered instead. So decreed by his humble servant Lord Jon Arryn, Hand of the King, King Robert I Baratheon, First of his Name, King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm. The court is dismissed.”

The crowd reacts as you would expect. An immediate clamor and upswing of voices. You watch as the young Lord Lucos walks back towards his family. The fat pinch faced woman that was his mother drawing him into her arms, as he stood listlessly. His brother cried out in anger and attempted to thrash away from Jon’s grip but was instead hauled off by the Knight. His mother openly wept, her wails of pain as she watched him dragged along with your men, barely reaching you in the loudness of the grand hall. Master Saul Cromwell gives you a dutiful nod, seemingly pleased with the work he had done. You look over to see Isis sat with Lady Arryn. Her face emotionless, but that telling more than she thought to give away. She hadn’t ever truly seen your ruthless wroth and vengeance at hand. But you had sworn to take everything from them. And you had. Your mind still wanders with anger and turmoil of the Red Bastard truly doing nothing. It did not make sense to you. And even though you won this day and had left the ruin of House Langward in your wake you still felt anger.

For this was but the beginning.

For he was next.

For he would suffer far greater than the boy Lord ever would.

Got a lot done today. Really nailed down 3 of those major beats I was expecting to do. I feel the session overall went very well, I am happy with my writing on it and Brynden's successes and decisions, but obviously we hit a bit of a snag on Obella and the Redward issue is still both a mystery and frustrating.

As of right now, I can't give you guys a 100% accurate next run date. As next week I'll be out of town on business and am not sure what the following week is looking like as of yet. I will be sure to update you all accordingly and ASAP.

Thank you all for playing, as always. I'll be around in the thread for a moment for questions and what have you.

Thank you for running Father. Today was a great run. Kinda sad we didnt acknowledge Dorian. Just seemd like the Brynden thing to do.

Could you tell us what Isis and Obella thoughts and feelings about this whole thing that just happend ?

Isis will tell you next thread her thoughts on it.

Obella likewise knows he's in a foul mood, as is she, and that taking it to the Langwards today, while planned and intended, was really about him blowing off steam too. She knows he can be vengeful as fuck and expects it but now that it's so focused and powerful, that's something she appreciates about him.

For a hot minute. Its not her pouting, and attempting to call it that would just make her more angry. She was legitimately angry. There will be a choice in the next thread that may help her get over it, but it depends upon what Brynden wants to do there as well. If we go the other direction... Well she might not get over it for awhile.

Going to get the House Spreadsheet updated her in a minute. Man there is a lot going on with that now.

Yeah no way that doesn't go over poorly!

>>3671596
That Lord Malroy was ruthless, but fair in his demands. The Langwards acted in bad faith, dishonorably, and broke the King's Peace in outright insurrection against a subject of the throne that had Crown backing. It was the least they deserved. That Lord Malroy received so much however, shocking considering where he was nearly two years ago.

>>3671607
Just twins. I'm not saying anything else about the new children. Just gotta wait 9 months.

Depends upon the audience.

>>3671196
Actually I'm going to hit that point next House Fortunes. The Chelsteds have a claim to the other domain that the Chytterings want to take by force. Dontos wants Brynden to help them take that domain, reclaim an old title, and ultimately make Alexes very happy. I just sort of changed how we're doing that.

Alight so House spreadsheet is updated, as is the Trade & Resources document, overall you received:

+5 Influence, +12 Lands, -3 Law, +6 Population, +15 Wealth.

You also gained a +1 Influence Bonus and a +1 House Fortune bonus.

Your Influence is now at 53 which allows opens up another spot for Personages, so you can get that Master-of-Horse for Gawen now.

You are now at 4/5 Lands domains.

Your 10 wealth isn't broken down yet and we'll go over it next House Fortunes for how Brynden wants to divvy that up but here are the options:

>200 Gold Dragons: 1 Wealth
>1 Wealth: 40 Food
>1 Wealth: 20 S. Mead
>1 Wealth: S. Weapons, Armor, or Barding

You have another 10 Food coming in every month now, so you have a +20 surplus. That'll help a lot when some of your other trade deals run out soonish.

Honestly you came out of the war looking pretty good. New lands, more wealth, powerful elite units. And Brynden got a new title. I really like that one personally.

Lord Marshall Brynden is a badass

Brynden's in his tier three class now, Lord Marshall.

Now he has A rank in Swords and S rank in bows and unlocks Grand Aether. Amazing

Hell yeah Tellius boys represent. The tier three classes were the shit.
Brynden promoted from Mercenary to Lord to Lord Marshall.

I honestly wouldn't mind the option of... changing our minds? Since it really means so much to Obella, and the vote was contentious, I don't think it would be too much of a stretch for Brynden to reconsider his choices
>>
>>3671737
Just curious, but do you roll for twins or is it more of a narrative thing? I do like keeping the genders a secret for now. It feels too meta to know.
>>3672453
She's supposed to be challenging. It's a double-edged sword, but what isn't in this setting?
>>3672429
I'd suggest playing to her ego. Perhaps asking her for her opinions on the Magister situation and stating how much we are counting on her for information on that front. Also, it may be good to point out to her that while we didn't go with her ideal plan, her information gathering was still very valuable because it is what allowed us to make an informed decision on the matter instead of going about it blindly and wondering if we were missing any important details.
>>
>>3673203
Did we ever get a scene of us giving her that scorpion with the eggs ? Might cheer her up.
>>
>>3673173
I don't think that's going to happen. Father is pretty strict about sticking to votes. We made our bed, now we lie in it.

I know that the format of quests in general makes it hard to change your mind and i recognize dad's policy is sound in general. I just also think that people can, and do, change their minds in real life, and it would be nice to reflect that.

I hope Lyonel does something stupid to prove that we were right to not trust him in a position of power.
>Julianna almost having her teat bit off by the man
I'm guessing she'd be dead within a few months after getting the tear, or at least replaced with a new girl, thus cutting off any control.
>>
>>3673485
For me, typically apologizing (even if she's just overreacting) and explaining my viewpoint (in this case, fucking enemies over just a little more and rewarding a loyal friend) and acknowledging that her ideas are great too.
>>
>>3673546
Or compromise with her, involved and manipulate Lyonel and them cut him off at the moment and we take the Tear for ourselves and land Lucas.
>>
>>3673562
Lyonel is too dangerous a wild card.
"“Mhm,” she replies with a nod and picking from the papers she had laid out, “As luck would have it, Ser Lyonel had found himself incredibly bored in Steadhold when he was locked up in your towers. I believe he would be an incredibly useful pawn, if a bit unstable.”"
Is the reason obella is upset with us for wasting Lady Julianna's work seducing him, but honestly a sociopath like Lyonel isn't going to be controlled by her, and he's just too dangerous to let free.
>>
>>3673664
He is not more dangerous than any of our other enemies. He possess little support without us, his family is likely to hate him. Where is the danger in him if he is just a man with a tenuous claim to the Tea if we know not to give him a knife and turn our back to him?

I'm not saying trust him, I'm saying use him and them drop him into the river with a gut wound.
>>
Even though we voted on it, we can still change our minds in a later thread. Plots like these take time to enact. Could we instead push on the the rest of this family. Remind them we have a caged madman we can let loose at any time to take their house? Or let him loose and then spirit the rest of his family to safety before he can off them. Wait for him to get too crazy and then off him via spies?
>>
Im kind of shocked about how civil everyone is being about Obella getting angry. Really expected more salt
>>
>>3675765
We did ask her to infiltrate the Langward, and to be honest we didn't expect to beat them this hard this fast.
>>
>>3675791
we should probably mention that to her, and that we didn't expect to win this hard and we really dont want to muck it up by relying on such a dangerous person as whatshisface
>>
>>3676466
It still goes counter to the general feelings in the past of wanting to finish them off entirely or at the very least put a pro-Malroy Lord Langward in place. Obella was giving an option of maintaining pressure on them and utilizing her full skills. Y'all blew it on that vote for playing it safe.
>>
>>3676778
You're right. We'll have to start planning to kill her.
>>
>>3676834
Right you are random anon who i dont know. Then replace her with a beautiful Vale Woman who would love him forever and give him many silver haired children and live happily ever after
>>
>>3676778

I heavily disagree with "finishing them off entirely".Royce is our enemy and I don't want to get embroiled in losing what we've gained by grasping to continue to fight against the lamewards beyond what the King's Peace allows. We need to refocus on our two main goals: expand our herds for the Tyrell deal and destroy Royce utterly using that increased wealth. The Tear is a fucking trap.
>>
>>3676842
>vale woman

Disgusting. More like Valyrian.
>>
>>3675765
Honestly I see friction between Brynden and Obella as a symptom of his growing maturity as a character.

As he drifts away from his sellsword ways and grows into his position as a Lord, the things about him that Obella was attracted to in the early days of their relationship have been forced to take a back seat.
>>
>>3676778
I was pretty vocal in earlier threads about demanding as much as possible from them and taking The Tear by force/murder if necessary and even I wasn't suggesting to wage total war on the Langwards. Taking The Tear is enough for me. Though I wouldn't call it the safest option either. Letting Lyonel run wild, control or no, is less of a strain on us than having to justify the taking of further land after all that we've gained already. Expansion and giving Lucas an island to match his brother's just happens to be worth it to me.
>>

Lets just hope there is still something between them once the spark is gone. A bit like how Eddard and Catelyn did care deeply for eachother even though they werent madly in love.

>>
Idk, it seems a little premature to assume that the romance is dead after one fight. We literally haven't gone on the honeymoon yet.
>>
>>3678660
Wouldn't say that the romance is dead, but I think we ignore the warning signs at our peril. It's not the first time she's thrown a tantrum, and if we let the root causes go unconsidered we risk very serious problems in the future.

The trouble, broadly speaking, is that we (as Brynden) have been acting within the mores of traditional Westerosi society in order to prove that we're not just a sellsword playing at lord. Unfortunately, that has meant relying on knights and soldiers to take all the major risks - and that's somewhat at odds with what Obella wants.

As much as we see her as strong willed and independent, she has left her home behind for a strange land with peculiar customs. Anyone in that situation would want to prove they can be useful - not just to bolster their own confidence, but to be a part of things, to be involved. I admit i'm dipping my toes into shaky speculative territory but it's possible that Obella is worried that if we don't need her spies to take our revenge, we'll forget about that part of her and just try and keep her as a dainty housewife.

Consider also:
She's become pregnant again a lot sooner than she had planned. She can be happy about that, but it has potential knock-on effects on her work for the larger Dornish network, and feeds into her fears of life as a brood-mare.

She knows full well that the Langwards (while an important obstacle to overcome) were still just a sideshow to the main event, and her network has failed to find any useful information on Redward. With her Knight of the Tear gambit getting discarded, it feels like she's not able to contribute anything and is in danger of falling into the role of the helpless little girl.

It's all undermining, eroding her confidence. Will she ever belong? Is she as good as she thought she was? etc, etc.

Ideally we would find some way to demonstrate that she is valued for her unique talents and try to build up her confidence without being patronising about it.

I'm just drawing a blank on ideas.
>>
>>3679070
I'm sure dad will give us an opportunity, whether or not we take it remains entirely up to anons.
>>
>>3679070
Clearly we just need to focus her on a new task or goal. If she has a network, then by all means put it to use.

The problem before is that she has all thse plans, but she didn't tell us about them until it was time to make a decision. We need to be communicating with her constantly so that we're on the same page.
>>
>>3679070
>we'll forget about that part of her and just try and keep her as a dainty housewife.
>She's become pregnant again a lot sooner than she had planned. She can be happy about that, but it has potential knock-on effects on her work for the larger Dornish network, and feeds into her fears of life as a brood-mare.
I think this is spot on. Maybe it would be best to reassure her that we fell in love with her specifically because she was so much more than just a house wife. And still is.

But to take this in another direction entirely...

Chariot archers! Yes! This is what we need! It is time to take our flair for unconventional units to the next level. Big boy dragonbone bow has unwieldy? No problem! A chariot should take care of that. Myrish crossbows are wildly impractical from horseback? Not from chariotback. This is in addition to the absolute swag of having a chariot. They already have a representation (that may need to be modified) on page 113 of the Night's Watch supplement.
>>
>>3679746
Dude no. Chariots take a LONG time to build and get good at and are only really usable in plains.
>>
>>3679777
>>3679746
Not to mention we could have two riders for every chariot we could make. Riders are much better.
>>
>>3679777
Gotta agree. Chariots are a money sink, unless we're going full rule of cool.

Some light cavalry, a la the Qorgyle and Dornish style might give a little more flexibility and suitably differ from most of westeros. Using them for patrolling, raiding supply trains and causing havoc, and then escaping might be nice without having to risk our more valuable units.
>>
>>3679959
Honestly, I think we already have a pretty strong military. Expanding it further will cause trouble for feeding them. We should focus on securing and taking advantage of the The Honeyrun and improving the law on our domain.
>>
>>3679777
For skill level, you could say the same about horse archery or myrish crossbows too. And all of our domains are plains. It's a valid concern for future conflicts though.

Not a priority until the Tear is taken, it might take a year or more depending on the political situation.

>Get a Trained Garrison in the villa in KL
Sure, we should be able to gather 5 power within six months.

>Upgrade our garrison at home to Veteran
Not sure if this is urgent or really necessary.

>Upgrade the First Regiment to Veteran
They will get there on their own time next time we go to war.

>Get Supports
Would be nice, I honestly put this above the our garrison and the First Regiment because it will make it easier for them to get upgraded.
>>
>>3679999
This is a good point too.
>>3680128
Something to talk to Obella about, for sure.

Ok, other ideas, this time on the wealth side of things...
1. A tourney field (1 land, 5 wealth). This is just a great investment in general. Reduces wealth cost of festivals by 2, effectively making the first tier free. Also makes getting an eventual tourney master cheaper and makes throwing tourneys cost less wealth. Upgrades and tourney master holding could come in down the road. The basic field at least ends up paying for itself.
2. Court+beautiful people. This just seems fitting. It boosts our reputation and could help with Obella's intrigue. We are also one of the more influential houses in the region and have the most notable links to Dorne by a wide margin. It would make sense for anyone traveling between Kings Landing and Dorne to stop by. Fluff aside, it also would allow us to exchange influence for wealth. This could lead to massive profits if we were to maximize our tourney holdings.
>>
>>3680202
>Not sure if this is urgent or really necessary.
Home defense is a weak spot right now. We've got a great field army but our garrison is weak. I'd like to fix that.
>They will get there on their own time next time we go to war.
Or they'll get destroyed because they weren't good enough.
>>
>>3680211
If I'm remembering correctly, I think there is a house rule in place that disallows purchasing upgrades above trained (outside of initial house generation).
>>
>>3680221
That might be true. I thought only Veteran -> Elite was disallowed, but I'm not sure.
>>
>>3680244
Yeah, it makes sense hard to become a veteran without combat.
>>
>>3680211
>Home defense is a weak spot right now. We've got a great field army but our garrison is weak.
Not really a point since we house most of our troops in our castle.
>Or they'll get destroyed because they weren't good enough.
Or we win easily, its not really an argument.

The very simple way of getting the wife happy is to include her as a major player for blackmailing the septon.

As is typical of me, I will not be allowing a "revote" option or "to change our minds". The decision was made and we are moving forward. Final say on that.

And honestly? It wasn't even that contentious. And if we did a revote it would entirely lean towards making the wife happy rather than Brynden's character development.

>>3673203
>Just curious, but do you roll for twins or is it more of a narrative thing?
This one was a narrative decision. Because I feel like we aren't going to see enough children in the span of this quest. And with Brynden's mother being a Hayford, who are known for having twins, it makes sense for it to happen at least once.

>Perhaps asking her for her opinions on the Magister situation and stating how much we are counting on her for information on that front.
Obella and Illiad are working very hard on that one. And while it is true that Brynden is exclusively relying on her for that, it is the most difficult of the tasks he asked of her and will take the longest to yield any results. I wouldn't equate pride to ego when it comes to Obella, as a point.

>>3673224
No, because she hasn't even come home yet and I'll be using it to frame a scene. And I don't think your plan of attack to make your wife happy should be to give her critters she's made well known she's afraid of.

>>3673485
>spoiler
what do you think Obella is? Some simple Westerland girl?

>>3673488
>I'm guessing she'd be dead within a few months after getting the tear, or at least replaced with a new girl, thus cutting off any control.

>>3673664
>Is the reason obella is upset with us for wasting Lady Julianna's work seducing him, but honestly a sociopath like Lyonel isn't going to be controlled by her, and he's just too dangerous to let free.

Would not have been the case, at least at baseline. And to think so is to severely discredit and undervalue Obella's spies and their abilities. She had her claws in him, and Obella was fully confident in her ability to control and manipulate Lyonel.

There was a rather lengthy open discussion period there. If there was concerns regarding Obella's ability to control him it could have been raised.

>>3676929
Honestly, that's pretty spot on. And Obella is starting to realize that as well and thinking to herself what she needs to do to becoming the Lady of the House.

Mason's thread, a long while back, had him take notice Obella's stress and the sudden weight of the world on her shoulders and how young she is.

>>3678363
>>3678660
Romance isn't dead. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Is it possible for it to die? Yeah absolutely. But Brynden is still a long time away from that being a possibility.

They had their first fight since getting married. Everyone does it.
>>
>>3680192
Poor Father. That is a really long flight
>>
>>3679070
This whole post is absolutely spot on. Nailed it anon.

So yeah the question is, what is the best way to demonstrate she is valued, specifically for her valuable talents and as a wife and building her up without being patronising about it (which I honestly think will be the biggest issue here from what I'm reading, ex. "overreacting, tantrum, etc.).

>>3679165
Kind of. The annulment situation has a lot of her as well. And while she's being stubborn right now, she's still going to give Brynden all the information she, the Septon Tytos, Saul Cromwell, and the Sons of Gold have come up with.

But I'm not going to hand it to you guys either.

>>3679647
Brynden has been in Highgarden and at war for the months both prior and after. The spy network was literally just established and she was given assignments with very little oversight because it isn't Brynden's purview or something he has time to deal with. Do you really think it's advisable to micromanage Obella on top of all the other things Brynden does, specifically regarding something he knows very little about? She's making the effort to do all the possible legwork she can so that Brynden just has to sign off.

>>3679746
>Chariot Archers
I mean Brynden would have definitely seen them in his time in Essos. And while they have more use there I'd probably call them a more "Valyrian" thing. If we were to do it I would likely use the Night's Watch version with some revisions and knock them down to a 10 chariot unit.

It would entirely fall under rule of cool. But so do the Arbalesters if we're being honest.

>>3680117
Rolf Harling would like some Engineers. They'd help at home too, during peace time they'd help speed up build times.

>>3680128
>If we had people able to infiltrate the place and just open up the gates
That's definitely something that could happen. But you'd need to purchase the Saboteur Personage Wealth holding to do it.

>Then we wouldn't even need to rebuild afterwards.
I will be absolutely shocked if Bolthole Hall or Redwatch Tower survive Brynden's wroth.

>>3680142
>Upgrade our garrison at home to Veteran
Nope sorry, I don't allow that. You may only purchase Green and Trained units (with storyline exceptions) and can only spend power to "train" a unit from Green to Trained. Trained units only advance view warfare.

>>3680183
I appreciate that even though the House has come so far. There is still so much to be done. It keeps the challenge there.

>Not a priority until the Tear is taken, it might take a year or more depending on the political situation.
The moment you decide to spend 10 Power on it, is the moment you can take the Tear. Sitting on it isn't advisable either because Ser Leo's daughter/Lyonel's sister and her child are still there and can bolster their support from the mainline Langwards in the meanwhile and rebuild their currently destroyed military to resist a hostile takeover. Especially without Lyonel causing chaos it'll be much easier for the Tear to recover quickly and be prepared for a hostile takeover.

>>3680203

Entirely the appeal for me. Perhaps with a carpenter from Kings Landing or wherever to do some intricate horse/scorpion/dragon carvings all over them. Chariot races on the tourney field. I know we don't need them, but what's life without a little excess?

Hey everyone, just want to give you an update on what's going on on my end.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to cancel the thread this week and likely won't be able to run the following either. I want to head off any >QM ded >qst ded and keep everyone in the loop this time, as I know having recently returned from a long absence and the manner in which I just dropped off the face of the earth. Anyway, the past two weeks I've been incredibly busy with a new client at our firm, between travel and project management I have had no time to write or do anything Malroy related and today unfortunately has to be the same. Again, it is likely to bleed into next week as well and I just don't see myself having time to run or do much of anything until the project is outside the first phase and things settle again. Very likely I won't run again until the week of 8/11-8/17 since my life is a nightmare and god has cursed me for daring to run a fantasy game on a Taiwanese basket weaving forum.

Anyway, again, I'm really sorry about the little 3 week hiatus we're going on here. I will of course give you guys updates for a return thread, and I'll likely find some time to update the House document and other minor things. To reiterate, quest isn't dead, I'm not going for cigarettes and milk, and I appreciate you all for reading. In the meanwhile I absolutely cannot overstate how much you should be following Joe's A Song of Duty and Spite: House Reynold Quest, as it is at its peak right now and incredibly well written and playing the settling to a degree that I feel I haven't even touched on.

Sorry again. We'll be playing again soon.
