You cautiously follow the demon through the dark corridors of Malgrave. Every once in a while he tells you to stay put, turns invisible and scouts ahead. The journey is tedious, but safe from undead and cultists.
When you reach the West Wing you find there's more renegade demons patrolling the hallways, they heed you no mind as you are escorted by the Stalker.
Soon you reach a large room with a cistern, filled up with corrupted Demon Blood. Behind this cistern is a small cottage, a whole cottage sitting in the middle of a huge room in a castle.
Stalker: "He is in there. If you are Christof the door should open for you."
Not responding you walk up to the cottage's sturdy wooden door, push it open and step inside.

The cottage is warm on the inside, you see a fire going in a fireplace and several bunk beds to the side.
To another side is a table with several stools, and sitting down at the table sure enough is Salaman, the blue wizard. He is alone, no demons in sight (although you suppose Stalkers can turn invisible).
Salaman: "Greetings Christof."

>"Greetings Salaman."

What's your issue with him? Unless I'm missing sometging, the only reason he """betrayed""" us was because of his sister (family is important) and that roll failed by a miniscule amount! Sala-bro, best bro.

While I think Christof murdering him on the spot right now would be an extreme reaction:
1 - His betrayal could have lead the party being captured and vivisected by the necromancers.
2 - Christof has been established to have a very strong and rigid sense of justice. He's certainly not quick to forgive an evil act.

But Salaman did act out of panic when Ikara pretended to cry out in fear when Christof raised his weapon to her throat.

Salaman picks himself up and composes himself with a deep breath.
>"You should be in jail Salaman"
Salaman: "...I left you because I thought you needed time without me to heal, so I went to Malgrave alone to secure the Wish Granter for you. I thought giving you the key to save your homeland would be excuse enough for you to forgive me. Alas so far I've only been able to capture one key."
He places the key to the Wish Granter's chamber on the table before you.

Ask everyone to leave the room so you can have a 1 on 1 with salaman. Then tell him that his betrayal hurt you more then he can ever know. Ultimately, accept his help and seek no vengeance, but don't forgive him. Salaman may be on the greedy and self serving side, but our adventures prove that he valued us as a close friend, confidant, and fellow wizard. His punishment is the end of our fellowship. But dont be cold and distant about it, or talk down to him.

>Salaman may be on the greedy and self serving side, but our adventures prove that he valued us as a close friend, confidant, and fellow wizard.
This.

We don't need to send the others out. Just man up. Express that we are still upset over his betrayal, but his actions and giving us the key are a good step forward.

HOWEVER, before we can trust him to fight alongside us again, he needs to answer a few things.
Starting with :
>>3679806

This.

We are Christof. We are brave, honorable, occasionally genocidal, unswayed by thots, and we don't take bullshit. But we also laugh, smile, dance, and can be kind.

We are not a pissy tween girl who hates her former bff now for, like, forever.

>"Ulric, Alina, Shawel. Please allow me to speak to Salaman in private."
They quietly nod and exit the cottage.
>"What you did hurt me Salaman, I trusted you."
Salaman: "I know Christof"
>"Know you don't! I may heal with time but I've been scarred. You are not forgiven."
Salaman stares to the side.
Salaman: "..so that's how it's going to be."
>"But I will accept your help. If you're still offering it, but before I can trust you I need to know exactly, how and why are you consorting with demons?"
Salaman: "You remember how in Clarcton the orc shamans had conjured an army of summon monsters? They did that by mixing a solution called Summoning Syrup, that purple goo can be used to make permanent summons that don't strain the summoner (although the summoning takes much longer)."
>"Yes, I remember there was a large stockpile of the stuff in their stronghold."
Salaman: "Right, well at first I was trying to wear down the Cultist by hit and run attacks with my Summon Creatures, but eventually I came across some vats of Demon Blood. The Cultists use it for a variety of purposes but I found Demon Blood works as a fine substitute for Summoning Syrup."
>"So that cistern filled with red liquid..."
Salaman: "Exactly, I stole their reserves and used it to summon a small army, but as I soon found out my Summons didn't come out like they were supposed to. They all mutated into demons, Scorpions into Roaches, Salamites into Acari, Salamanders into Crawlers and so forth. They are more powerful than my normal summons and have special abilities, but they also have malicious intelligence, they don't obey me like automatons. They can rebel."
>"and you summoned a horde of them anyway!? What were you thinking? If they rebel against you they could swarm out into Aflor and hurt innocents!"
Salaman: "How soon you forget: Salaman is a master of his art. I have fine control of the strengths and weaknesses of my creations. After my initial tests I secretly began to summon Demons with deliberate weaknesses in the bodies I moulded for them. 1 - Their bodies dissolve in water. Even if they break out and try to wage war on the Aflor they will all perish as soon as it rains. 2 - Their bodies are disrupted by the energy of ordinary summons, an ordinary Salamite will inflict serious damage upon them with only a glancing blow. I have verified these weaknesses. Even the my more powerful demons can be slain by a pail of water or a handful of summoned scorpions. After I send them on a suicide attack against the Cultists and Undead I can easily liquidate any that remain."
>"You are extremely foolish to think your plan is safe. No one can control Demons. But at least you've taken precautions. Don't summon anymore of these things. It seems the safest way to dispose of them is to follow through with your plan and send them to fight against the cult."
Salaman: "Don't worry Christof, I give you my word not one demon in the castle will survive."

cont..
>>
>"...this cottage is sound-proof right?"
Salaman: "Yes, and there are no invisible Stalkers inside either. Relax."
>"Just checking, a mutiny is the last thing we need."
Salaman: "Right, now I've been building up my forces for some time now, and we're ready to make a full assault whenever you're ready, but there's one more thing I've been holding onto..."
He opens a footlocker and pulls out a ornate looking magic scroll.
>"Edis! I'm not trained to sense magic yet even I can feel that. It's on par with the Arch Duke's Desintegration Scroll"
Salaman: "Summon Creature Level VII, although tempting I considered it too risky to make a demon with it. If we're in trouble, or if the enemy has a particularly nasty demon up there sleeves we can use this to deal with it. So, do you want to hold it or should I?"

>"I'll take responsibility for this scroll."
>"You take it, your Summons continue to fight even when you're unconcious."
>"Actually I think I'll have one of the others wield it."

Salaman: "I want to see this quest through to the end. We journeyed so far together, I don't want to drop out just before the end. And as always I'm interested in collecting magical power. Tywardreath has lots of lost magical items in the hands of the dead, and Malgrave is full of spell storing statues. I have bolstered my spellbook considerably the last few days. And well.. believe it or not I have come to care for the three of you."

>"We were on the second floor of the East Wing earlier, it was raining and some rooms had damaged roofs. Some areas were completely unroofed but your Stalker still found us there."
Salaman: "Was he wet?"
>"No"
Salaman: "Then it's probably nothing to worry about, the first Stalker I summoned perished when I tested him with water and all others were summoned in the same manner, deviations are impossible."
>"Your demons don't look all the same, they've got slight differences. Unlike your normal summons."
Salaman: "I assure you; the weaknesses I gave them are etched into the very fiber of their being."
>"I hope you're right."
Salaman: "Even if they've learned of their defect it is too late for them, now that you have arrived the hour of reckoning is at hand! I see no reason not to commence the attack after we finish speaking."

Salaman: "Here. I've got a few more, but I'm sure you don't need my entire personal stash."

First you decide to check on your King. You know that some of your fellow abjurers protect the Castle from magical spying but you give it a shot anyway. As you suspect Salaman is completely unable to view the interior of the castle. You don't really know what protections are in place, details on the castle's security follow a need-to-know basis.
Salaman is able to get a view of the whole Castle from the outside. You sit there in silence for a few moments gazing at your now distant home. Feels like it's been a lifetime since you last laid eyes upon it.

Knowing you can't waste too much time you move onto the next. You want to check on Azahl, no doubt he's up to no good. It takes Salaman a little bit of time to locate him but manages to get a clear image of him. He's still alive and he has two arms again. He seems to be hiding in a cave somewhere.

You ask to check on Olin. Salaman quickly locates him, his carcass is being dragged off somewhere by a cultist.
Salaman: "Look at his ribs, he's not breathing."
>"He's voluntarily entered a death like state before, and he wasn't very injured when he dropped. I firmly believe Olin is still alive."
>>
>"Okay Salaman, next I want to see Al'gokoz."
Salaman: "Who's that? A demon?"
>"Yes, a powerful demon, leader of the Cultists, I assumed you were already aware of him"
Salaman: "I think the Cult is lead by a former human. But i'll see if I can find him. If that's the demon's real name he should be very easy to locate."
A clear image of a demon appears within the crystal ball. Though his surroundings are not visible. The demons appears to be sitting hunched over in darkness.
The demon very slowly turns its head to stare at the viewpoint of the crystal ball.
Al'gokoz: "Christof"
Salaman looking very vexed terminates the image.
Salaman: "That's not good, he stared back at us."

Salaman: "Damned thing. The crystal ball is unresponsive."
>"Is it broken?"
Salaman: "Not permanently, but it's a little messy right now, it will sort itself out in time."
>"Then we should waste no more time here."

The time has come to make an all out assault on the Cultists.
Take this opportunity to specify any sort of strategy you want to implement.
What targets you want to prioritize.
Do you want to ensure the enemies destruction? Or grab the second key and retreat while the demons keep fighting.
Do you want to eliminate Al'gokoz or avoid him?
Salaman currently intends to send attack orders to all his minions without bothering to rally them. A full frontal assault.

>write in
>>
>>3694967
The key is the priority, let the demons fight.
We should not seek out Al'gokoz but neither run from him if he finds us. Which he most likely will, so we should prepare ourselves to fight him. he fights with throwing spears and evocation magic, I think we have the appropriate protection spells against those
>>
>>3694967
Without more information on the enemy layout, it's hard to come up with specific strategy. Let's see:
>What targets you want to prioritize.
Spellcaster cultists and succubutts over cultists. Regular cultists seemed weaker, or that was my impression.

>Do you want to ensure the enemies destruction?
Ideally.

>Or grab the second key and retreat while the demons keep fighting.
Plan B.

Instead of just a full frontal assault, I thought we might hold a small portion of troops back and thrust forward in a sort of pincer attack with them and our team when we knew where the key was, secure the key, and then *try* to finish them off. With an eye on the door. Not risking the team to kill demons.

>Do you want to eliminate Al'gokoz or avoid him?
I'd like to spot at least one weakness or something before engaging him. But I do want to eliminate him. Definitely a D tier goal.
A. Get key to procure the wish granter.
B. Don't get killed.
C. Smash cultists.
D. Defeat Al.
Z. Poke Olin with a stick.

>Salaman currently intends to send attack orders to all his minions without bothering to rally them.
Maybe he should rally them a little. Something about their superiority over the enemy demon rabble, or something, seems like it could work well.
>>
>>3695013
This sound good, even if we get the key in this battle we should not, under any circumstance, go to the wish granter with the demon is still alive.
>>
>>3695366
>we should not, under any circumstance, go to the wish granter with the demon is still alive.
What course of action do you suggest if we have the have the keys and the demon yet lives?
Flee like a coward?

Because I can get down with running away likes little bitch. I just need the right shoes, is all I'm sayin'.
>>
>>3695656
Reagrup and try to attack the demon again. Step one is to flee, yes.
>>
>>3695870
Okay
So, try to fuck up demon, get key, fall back and try to fuck up demon again?
I can get down with that.
Alina should be hanging back with Salaman, firing off holy arrows at choice targets. If we get the keys, give them both to her and have her bug the fuck out of shit goes tits up.
Alina getting the wish granter and using it to save our homeland, and totally *not* just saving her friends and allies, is our fail-safe if the dice gods abandon us.

You brief your team mates of the situation and your strategies.
Shawel: "So we are to fight along side demons, how bizaare."
Ulric: "Good to have you back Salaman."
Alina: "You better behave yourself this time."
Salaman: "Don't worry, Salaman will not fail you. Anyway... you, Stalkers spread out through the castle and contact all of my minions, their new orders are to attack the cultists immediately."
Stalker: "As you say."
Salaman: "Everyone move out! Destroy all renegade demons! Slaughter all Cultists! The hour of my victory is at hand!"
All the demons in Salaman's lair start running for the exit in an unruly mob charging towards the West Wing.
>"Follow me everyone."

The war begins. Salaman's demons crash against the cultists and easily breach the exterior defenses, you follow the vanguard and rush into the cult base. The cultists have responded quickly and a large force of them have rallied to defend against the attackers.
You find yourself in a large room where forces from both sides clash against each other. Before you are many Cultists and a few demons for support fighting Salaman's demons. Honestly you have a little trouble telling the "friendly" demons from the hostile ones in all the chaos, but it seems the "bad" ones are a brighter colour. Some Cultists are using bows from a safe distance away. Hiding behind the warriors is a cultist with a long saber, he wears a key around his neck, just like the one Salaman gave you.
Other than the entrance you came through this floor has two exits. To your right there is a balcony overlooking the room. Upon the balcony are more cultist archers raining arrows upon Salaman's horde. The balcony has three closed doors accessing it.

Feel free to direct your allies, eg: Shawel's Ice Wall, Ulric's Fireball.

My goofy plan is to first deal with the archers that have the high ground on us. If we make two icewalls on the far side but leave a clear opening on the side closer to us they may group up instead of "breaking down the walls".

then we fireball em once they are grouped. My only fear is the ice+ fire = water interaction and our demons. On that note, I hope shawal has none water based magics?

I'm cool with this too.
We can gauge the strength of the big red in diapers enemies (BRIDE).

The Saldemons and the other can back Christof up if they try to flank him.

As for the key, it could be a distraction, or it could be a valuable target. If it was a distraction, from what? Either way, it's worth investigating.

At your commad Shawel blocks the sight line of the balcony with her Ice Wall.
Just as you predicted the archers elect to move around it rather than destroy it. This proves to be a big mistake.
Ulric and the two Crawlers immediately loose one fireball each on the bunched up archers.
The cultists have excellent reflexes, but their speed isn't enough to save them from being barbecued.

The Succubi fly above the icewalls and begin trying to charm the Crawlers. The Crawlers beast level intelligence and demonic affinity make them easy targets for the demonettes and one of them quickly becomes fully under their control. It turns around as quickly as it can (very slowly) to bombard you with a fireball.

Shawel tries to reel in the Cultist Leader with her Water Whip but he fast. REALLY fast. He effortlessly evades the Whip and barks orders to his minions.

Salaman's Roaches start dying very quickly as the melee begins. On death they detonate damaging the cultist ranks, many of the Imps and Acari are consumed immediately by the series of explosions.

You charge down the left flank. One of the Hell Guards seemed to have the same idea and you find yourself face to face with the hulking demon.

You put 10 skill points each into Persuade and Athletics.

~

You swing at his head but miss!
Hell Guard: "Foolish human, I will CRUSH you!"
He Power Attacks you but misses.

~

You Power Attack the Hell Guard, smashing him for 22 damage.
He shrugs it off and tries a quick chop to your legs but you evade.

~

You Power Attack the Hell Guard for 31 damage.
He howls with rage and responds with his own Power Attack! Which misses.
Hell Guard: "STAY STILL COWARD."

~

You Power Attack the demon for 27 damage.
He whips his blade forward in a standard attack. He finally catches you, it's not a very good hit, but his immense strength manages to damage you through your powerful armour for 11 damage.
It seems like the Demons' weapons don't have the same supernatural armour piercing effect as the cultists' weapons.
Still, a solid Power Attack from one of these guys could spell trouble if it actually hits you.

~

A sword wielding Cultist moves to engage you.
A Percipient approaches from behind ready to assist you.
Hell Guard Looks Almost Dead.
Cultist is barely wounded.

Abjuration - Spell Level * 10 - Dry Magic zone penalty
100 - 5*10 - 30 = 20% chance of success.
The potion of sorcery improves your spell casting success chance.
Normal demons and Saldemons both get converted back into the goo they're made of and are sent back to their home dimension where they sort of merge with the rest of the goo, effectively dead. (reducing a demon's hp to zero has the same effect)
>>
>>3713716
>>3713720
We need to finish off this demon, then drink the potion and just try 1 shooting them. Whats the point of battling the demons if it take several turns to kill one?

I saw we counter attack (power attack)
since the demon so far has had a
>power
>random
>power
>random
attacking strategy
if that doesn't work just flurry him until its dead.

then potion up and start trying to dispel the big guys

Hell Guard tries to Power Attack but you Counter Attack! dodging and striking back for 58 damage and knocking the demon down.
This destroys the demon.
Percipient Flurries Cultist, the first hit is a Critical! it does 32 damage and knocks the cultist of his feet.
The second blow hits for 13 damage.

~

You flurry the downed Cultist, the first strike does 18 damage and finishes him off.

~

Your adversaries defeated you swiftly survey the battlefield.
Your team is winning. Another wave of Saldemons is entering the arena and the cultists' escape routes/ reinforcement vectors are blocked by Ice Walls.
The Key Cultist is trying to flee! He's starts going psycho on the Ice Wall blocking his pass.
One of the Succubi has been shot down and Salaman has summoned a total of 3 Percipients which seem roughly equivalent to the Stalkers, albeit less squeamish about using their melee weapons.
Another Hell Guard is lumbering towards you.

>What do?
>>

Have the Percipient fight the Hell Guard, in the meantime we rush to attack the Hell Guard standing near the cultist with the key

>Have the Percipient fight the Hell Guard, in the meantime we rush to attack the Hell Guard standing near the cultist with the key
This is good. I'm worried about those archers on the left and that key running off.
I say we take a moment to either cast protection from arrows on ourself (maybe not enough time before violence) or taking a quick swing to take out that cultist's knee.
Alina could cover us, but it's hard to call for it without alerting the other archers.
It's hard to balance.
>>
>>3717162
I support the idea to cast protection from arrows beforehand
>>
>>3717370
>>3717162
I dont, anti magic barrier. If you want to cast spell and roll the dice we should be casting our 1 shot ko spell on the greater demon.

If you want to get crazy with it, have shawel cast ice wall above our enemys and let it drop on their head.

You order the Percipient to engage the Hell Guard, it obeys your command and steps forth sword raised.
You dash past the demon to attack the keeper of the key, ducking under a sweeping chop as you go by.
The three cultist archers in the corner try to shoot you as you run past.
As you run you cast Protection from Arrows, It takes all of your concentration but you manage to successfully cast the spell.
You take a total of 13 damage from arrow fire, by the time you reach your target.
The cultist addresses his Hell Guard protector.
Cultist: "You break down the wall!"
The demon obeys and starts hacking at the wall.
Cultist: "Who are you? A vulture come to steal the ancient treasure of this place? You're nothing. I have taken the power of the demon realm itself and claimed it as my own! Trash like you and your army of deformed mutants cannot destroy me."

He starts twitching with anticipation, daring you to attack.

He looks like his combat stats are similiar to the regular cultists.
Extremely high AC but 0 actual armour.
He's armed with one of those armour-piercing Demon-Blood weapons.

(You have a 0% chance to hit a called shot to his head, Crushing - enemy AC - 40 = 0%)

>"If that is so, why are you running with your tail between your legs?"
Cultist: "Tough talk, are you not the party who fled from my Succubus servants?"
You open with a quick Jab. He tries to Counter Attack[Power Attack] and takes a light blow to the chest for 14 damage. He doesn't react too strongly to the damage, he could probably take many blows like that before he'll go down.

~

You attack but he easily evades your heavy weapon with his monsterous evasion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sZnEYtn664
He slashes your arm scoring a Critical hit! slicing through your armour and doing 24 damage
Cultist: "In your haste to flee you abandoned one of your own! Good friends are so hard to find~"

~

With a crash the Ice Wall crumbles and the Cultist kicks you back, turns 360 and runs away.
A new Ice Wall forms in his path but he gets through before it forms. Shawel immediately despells the new Ice Wall so you can pursue.
The Hell Guard however has other plans and moves to engage you.

Stupid gif is supposed to loop.

We're on page 10 now. That's it for this session.
I'm taking a rest from Seeker Quest for ~10 days so I get get my other quest finished and out of the way.
It should be finished within 10 days, (or sooner if they get themselves wiped out!)
I actually resumed my studies a week ago and i'm more busy but I should be able to continue Seeker Quest throughout the semester.
Thanks for playing! Keep an eye out on qtg and the catalog for the next episode. Have a good one.

Yeah, that cultist might even be fast enough to dodge our signature move, which is the only thing I can think to use to slow him down.
I'd rather take on the Hell Guard with the thicc sword in a room with allies than run after a superfast opponent into unknown territory while wounded.
