Four months ago, the world was swept off its feet as almost a million people were caught in a psychic phenomenon people call 'The Dream'.
Mag-trains crashed into their stations, highways across the world turned into pileups, airplanes dropped from the sky and hospitals flooded with people who they just couldn’t treat.
Position, money, health, age, sex, worth... it didn't care or stop to ask directions, it just hit indiscriminately… At least, that's what people thought. But unfortunately the truth was more dangerous than that.
The first Awakening curbstomped the world into the asphalt. Over ten thousand monsters were born from the bodies of 'Dreamers'. Parahumans, all of them. But they had monstrous forms and monstrously strong powers. They carved a swathe of destruction across the planet, devastating small countries, and fighting each-other to the death in a display of complete and utter madness. One survived, and went into hiding. Later named 'Great Seer'.
It is because of his Protection that you are alive today. He and Heroes from the Second Awakening stood against the nations of the world when they went crazy with fear and rage. When the people bayed for blood, when they demanded that the Dreamers were to dangerous to keep alive. It was the Great Seer and his followers who guaranteed their safety.

Now, just days ago, the Fourth Awakening happened and you were among the thirty thousand who stirred.
In confusion and fear, you ran from the authorities and those who could explain your situation to you.
After a few close calls, you finally managed to get in contact with your last surviving family member. Your sister, Erica, came to you in minutes with powers you'd never known she had and a partner from a cape organization called 'Monz'r'ous'.
In a new home, surrounded by powerful capes from the Second and Third Awakening, you struggle to understand your own powers, and just how much the world has changed.

However, unbeknownst to you, the Great Seer is dying.
As much as something like him can die, at least. Soon, he will return to the dream, and a great calamity will befall existence as you know it.
A chill runs through the subconsciousness of humanity as the preparations for the Fifth Awakening go underway.

Will your ever-growing mountain of questions ever get answered? Or will you die, and entrust your destiny to another?

Find out in this issue of Earth Tau.

Welcome, to thread 2 guys.
There was a bit of a mix-up in archiving this thread the first time so just head here for the first thread.

Now. A bit of a thing to say here.
When I run, it's between noon and about 2 am typically, I'm an hour behind New York and two hours ahead of California.
I'm used to fast paced questing, so forgive me if I'm impatient.
Alternatively, hang around as much as you can so I can pump out updates? That's also an option.
Anyways. Let's make this a fun thread guys. I'm PUMPed.

You considered what E said, trying to think if there's anything else you really wanted to know...

"Actually. I think I have a little more to ask you about." You say. "Is there anyone I need to 'worry' about here? Anyone like Hellion, or worse?" You ask him, hoping you won't have to deal with any crap in the near future.

He rubs his pale chin for a moment, before nodding. "I suppose so. Don't go to the basement. There's things down there that can hurt you, only a few of us can go safely because... well. That's not my story to tell. Let's see, ah, I know. Hellion's got a brother who might be brought here sometime soon.
"Aside from that, if you go outside then you'll have to be careful of the villains. You see... how to put this, hmm. I know, it see-"

"We're killing each-other out there." One of the other capes intrudes. "Come on E, he's not a kid. Just spit shit out, aight?" She looks at you again, "Look man. This ain't a game anymore, it's like the world wars started up again. With all the supercharged powers, people can't help being fucking lethal when they fight. Not at first, at least. Some of us have the trick down, but most authorities don't have the tech, training, or versatility to handle the new and improved bad guys... fuck. It's like everyone triggered again or something when the Dream happened. You heard about the monsters the first Awakening spawned?" She asks.

"No, actually? I mean. I get that things were worse on earlier... Awakened? Do you guys have a name for this thing?" You ask her.

"Not a real one, but more importantly I was telling you something... uh. Right. First awakening equaled absolute fucking monsters. Devastation across the world, death tolls between one and three billion. Small countries disappeared and even some of the smaller Undercities and Monoliths were severely affected.
"Wide stretches of Farmlands were destroyed too, it's hit the world's food supply a bit too. But uh, what's really fucked up is that we still haven't gotten normal capes back.
"Second Awakening, Third, now a Fourth and we're still a buncha freaks that terrify each-other... and ourselves. You fought someone yet? I could show you tomorrow, help you understand what it feels like when capes fight now..."

She's kinda co-opted your conversation, but you can't say you really dislike this girl. But what about her offer, are you okay with fighting her tomorrow and experiencing the 'terror' capes are being subjected to?

>"You're on."
>"Ehh. Maybe after I've got more control... I'm... kinda scary when pushed too far." You say, remembering your ascended form, and your lack of control over the whole.

Beyond her question, though. Anything else you want to do before heading to your room for the evening?

>Ask her something (What)
>Ask E something (What)
>Nah, go to bed man.
>>
>noon to two am

14 hours a day? Jesus
>>
>>3680126
Yeah, college ain't started yet. I take breaks of an hour or two sometimes, but that's usually because I hit a dead-spot in the time zones where no one is here but me.
>>
>>3680123
>"You're on."

I'm sure she's ready for us if she knows we're new.

>Ask E about his powers. He said he can stabilize Hellion?
>>
>>3680152
See, this is the limiting factor in this system. I gotta wait for like three guys to meander over and vote. I could have the next post out by now but I haven't even been able to start it...
>>
>>3680242
I dunno. You could go with single votes if it isn't a huge decision and no one else posts within half an hour or so.
>>
>>3680242
Well, guess I've been thinking of this all wrong... I think I'm going to try another thing.

If I don't get a vote within 10 minutes, I'll roll.
If I do get a vote within 10 minutes, then there's 15 more minutes for people to vote.

If this ends up causing actual problems, or I encounter something too important to roll for, then I'll just force myself to wait.
This should speed things up quite a bit.
>>
>>3680152
>>3680123

You smile, a bit eager to actually push yourself a bit. You're a bit anxious about this 'terror' capes inspire in each-other, but... "You're on." You say, holding a fist out.

She pounds it with a smile of her own. "Heh, hell yeah. Don't worry, I'm a third rounder so I won't outright murder you or anything." She turns to E. "Hey, make sure you got your pods up and running though. Never know if something goes wrong." She says.

"*Sigh* It'd be better if you just don't pick on h-"

"Don't wanna hear that from you Black-E. You beat the crap outta me when I joined up, after all." She says.

"I don't remember it." He says, deadpanning her cute scowl.

"Hmph. Well, you probably did. I mean, why'd it come to mind if it didn't happen somewhere?" She asks.

He rolls his eyes, and she just smirks before walking away. "See you dude. Tomorrow before lunch aight?"

"Ai-uh. Alright." You say, turning back to E as she leaves. You notice you two are the only ones left in the room at this point, so you decide to ask your last question and let him be after that. "So what's this I hear about your 'pods'? And something about stabilizing Hellion too, what's your power do E?" You ask him...

"Hmm" The giant statue of a man says, leaning back in his chair. "That's a tough one. But to put it in simple terms, I'm a master and somewhat bio-tinker. The strange bit is that before the dream I was a changer.
"But I'm sure you're more interested in what I can do, not why, right?" He asks you.
You rub the back of your head and give him a sheepish smile, "Yeah, sorry but most technical kinda stuff is just gonna go over my head so..." You go quiet and wait for him to continue.

"..." He leans forwards and adopts a thinking pose for a moment. "Hmm." After a minute or two he opens his mouth with a certain kinda look in his eyes. "Alright, I think I've got a good explanation. I 'rule life' when certain conditions are met. While it's not a great explanation, it's the best I have right now.
"But what I can do with it is easier to explain. As implied, I have an 'authority' over life and things that live. I can command them with royal decrees and talk to them telepathically. From the smallest cell to the largest macroorganism, if I meet certain conditions I obtain the right to 'rule' over them.
"That involves the other part of my power. I think it developed from my original changer ability, but somehow I can treat my body like it's a kingdom of cells. I can create cell 'units', cell 'structures' and many other things you'd expect from a game where you play as a species or organization. That's where 'Bio-tinker' comes in. I've geared my entire body to be the pinnacle of 'research and development' regarding life and biology. My flesh and blood can exert huge changes I've prepared over biology I have sufficiently researched.
"My pods are an extension of this ability. In the two and a half months I've been awake, and the month since I got my body to the point it is, I turned my attentions towards healing others. The pods are the pinnacle of that. I went through half a dozen other prototypes, but that's what ended up being the best. They can independently suspend the life of something and research it. Then repair any damages it finds. The whole thing takes about a week, and I've had six successes with zero failures so far... The thing with Hellion is a simple application of hormones from my body to hers. They keep her from experiencing 'episodes' like she had when she first woke up."

You'd raise your eyebrows, but he's already surprised you and... unfortunately, lost you, with most of what he's said. But you manage a response after his little speech anyways, "Wow... Is Boss' powers as complex as yours?" You ask him. "Because holy hell, I thought mine was confusing... But now I feel like I've seen the light or something."

He chuckles. "I don't really know. There's more to my power than what I've said, but it's... it's hard to put into words. I can't easily tell you what my power CAN do, because I'm finding more and more things to put in that category. Hah, sooner or later I might as well start listing things it can't do... But I think I've answered your question as well as I can today. Perhaps, if you ask me after your battle tomorrow, I'll have a better answer for you." He stands at that, towering over you at nearly eight feet tall. "Well. I'm off to my lab, see you again sometime young shade." He says, waving to you as he walks out of the room.

You smile and wave to him, sitting back in your chair for a minute or two and trying to just imagine how weird life must be for him. 'He's kinda like me.' You realize. Except, you aren't constantly aware of each and every bit of darkness in you. It sounds like he's constantly aware of EVERYTHING that's alive around him. From the smallest to the biggest. 'I wonder if he feels what they think and want...' you turn your attention to the little squirmies inside of you. "Man, I need a name for you guys..." You complain, it's getting annoying calling them all they, darkness, bits, and such. "Guess I can worry about that stuff some other time." You shrug, before letting out a yawn. "Woaah!~ Guess it's time for bed..."

You walk down the halls and find your own room among the many nondescript doors of the base. Slipping into bed, you ask your phone to set an alarm fora few hours before noon, and stretch out as sleep begins to come to you...

The idea is, after up to 25 minutes of waiting for people to vote, they would stick around for my 'alright roll x' post and all roll within five minutes.

If there's no one around to roll because no one was around to vote, then waiting more than five minutes doesn't make much sense to me.
>>
>>3680628
dude just take a break for about 30 mins or so. make a sandwich, take a shit, maybe even wait an hour for important decisions.
>>
>>3680628
so at most, I'm waiting 30 minutes, and if I have like six people here the moment I post, we can have all decision making and rolling done in like, 10 minutes. Then I can type for ten-thirty minutes and post the next update.
>>
>>3680647
I don't know man. I'm here the whole time, if i'm in the shitter I've got my phone out and typing.
If I'm hungry I can do it during the 15-25 minute vote period.
If I need to take a break, I'll let you guys know.
I don't WANT to take a 30 minute to 1 hour break after every update. I want to write and see conversations almost endlessly the whole time I'm 'live'.

I get that's not what people do here, that's why I posted an image of someone holding on to the horns of a much huger and immovable person. I get everyone here is all slowpokes and stuff and set in their ways. But this will let more happen sooner. I don't see what's wrong with that. It's not like this is a civ or organization quest like spacebattles does. Then I'd be pushing hour turns right alongside you.

You sit up and stretch your hands towards the ceiling. "Time to start the day. No use lazing about, I guess. Alright then boys and or girl demon robot cells! Let's see what we can do!" You say swinging out of bed as the previously called upon darkies begin to seep out of your skin.
You notice you're in a lot less pain after sleeping last night, and realize you must have been healing passively because you never told them to stop synthesizing tissues to repair your wounds.
"Huh. Thanks for the diligence, you lot." You say to the things. "Great start, now, let's see what we can do..."

(If you have a good write in on ways to explore your power, train it, or find out aspects of it, training gets a bonus.)
>Train to withstand the damage from your power. It's strong, stronger than you at the moment, and that's not a good thing. (Health)
>Meditate on it, or something? You're not sure how powers work, but you know it's got something to do with people's brains. Might do more harm than good, though. Unlearning bad habits and all that. (Conflict)
>Try to control your emotions while letting more of it out. You've noticed that, somehow, the more of this stuff you let outside of your body the more it effects your mental state. You aren't sure what the relationship is, but it's not safe. (Willpower)
>Work on developing some kind of technique or ability to use with them. Seems like you could try to make something like this 'flesh synthesis' thing if you worked at it long enough. (Smarts)
>Work on actually using your powers to 'hurt' things. Get some Dark Muscle memory going for when things go as badly as possible someday. (Strength)
>Write in.

(words) represents what bonus you'll have at base to this action.

"You know what, I think it's time we pushed this new regeneration stuff to the limit. I wanna find out why you guys hurt me, and how we can go about preventing that." You say.
now we're talking
...Sensible...though...undesirable...

With the quiet sensation of acceptance from the darkness within you, you begin...

_ _ _ + _ _ _

You try a variety of things in the beginning of your impromptu training session.
[Willpower+Conflict+Health synergy]
You cut yourself with the blade of a scissor in your room and watch as blood and shadows seep from the wound. The first thing you did was try to catch the blood. And somehow, it works. But something amazes you then, you can feel it, the energy you feel coursing through your flesh.
Just like when you had stuck your demons in the flames of the stove, more and more start crowding through your body, crushing against each-other as your skin bulges and your arm swells.
You were anxious at first, but after narrowing your eyes you decide to just watch what was happening...
...
They're starting to calm down, and while you feel a little light headed, you also feel invigorated... and hungry. The main body does, that is. You watched what the little buggers were doing quite closely, ready to stop them at any moment. But you were surprised at what they did after feeding. They bonded with the blood and used their energy to create veins, red and blue. They pulled the blood back into your body and repaired the wound entirely.

You get the feeling that you discovered something amazing. It's like... it's like you can turn your host body's stamina/energy reserves into energy that feeds your inner demons AND health for your host body.
If you can keep yourself well fed and increase your endurance, you could become a perpetual machine of self-healing energy reserves.

With that success in mind, you turned towards the other kinds of injuries you've gotten from these strong ass things...

_ _ _ + _ _ _

After working on cuts and bleeding, you moved on to your bones.
cont.

File: bone show.jpg (148 KB, 791x448)

Carefully and with no small amount of disgust, you had the dark flesh peel away the skin and disconnect the muscles of your forearm. They gently rerouted the network of blood as you withstood the pain of nerves cutting off and reconnecting all across the peeling skin. Finally, you got to see the bone... Damn that's gruesome.
Your bones are a patchwork of flexible black flesh and actual bone. You can see bits and pieces of your marrow sticking to some of the shards and notice a few sections where the bone has been splintered to the point your flesh just wraps them up and pushes them together in a rough approximation of the original piece...

You're a bit lost on what to do, at first, but then you notice something... An old break in your arm is still intact. Well, not the break part, the healed portion of the bone is still intact.
You have the flesh unravel more of your arm so you can look at your knuckle bones... and as you expected, they're largely intact too, though there's cracks that the flesh is sealing.
'Huh, so that's the answer then?' You think to yourself. 'If I can find out what makes healed bone strong, I should be able to strengthen my bones enough that they won't break so easily. That'll be a major bonus.'

You muse about the bones for a bit longer, both freaked out AND interested in their strange appearance... Almost afraid to do it, you will them apart, and watch as each shard separates and is presented to you by a web of black flesh full of veins and nerves. Hmm... Maybe.

You try putting the bones back together manually, and seal them with elastic bands of flesh... Hmm. This could work for now, maybe?
It won't stop them from breaking, but you remember that barrels have metal bindings because it gives a certain resistance to the length of the planks by making them all break or none of them.
For now this should help...

_ _ _ + _ _ _

Mentally exhausted from the hour and a half of agonizing investigation and the long process of binding all your broken bones, you sit on your bed and simply relax... you feel like you've become a bit more resilient, but at quite a price.

You probably won't be able to do anything more in this field for a few weeks, unless you really start focusing on increasing your knowledge of flesh and the like...

(+2 Health to base form. Gained (partial Health-Energy-Lifeforce conversion ratio.). Unlocked Life-force stat.
(Life force. A measure some beings have of an intrinsic resource that combines willpower, health, and a body's limits.)

After resting and feeling your bones knit together a bit, you decide you ought to just feed your things as much heat energy as you can bear.
You roam the halls, looking for something to fill you up... but nothing shows itself. No fire-place or anything else.
So you decide you'll just use the stove in the kitchen/lounge place you were last night.

You turn all four of the stoves on full blast and form the huge hands you used to escape your first encounter with the police after waking up. The hands practically vibrate as a constant stream of inner demons move to them and back into your body...
Soon, your entire body starts feeling hot and you realize you've absorbed so much heat that you're starting to hurt your main body.
You turn the flames off and reluctantly pull your darkness back into the depths of your core. They're no longer cold, and for once, nothing but a simple minded contentedness is all the majority of them have to offer. No silent protests, no unheard desires. They're not hungry, and you feel a strange kind of... happiness, knowing that. You did this. You satisfied all of these demonic little shadows... and that's when it hits you.
A name, a word really. But you've heard a lot of people say it about the shoddy construction of floors 6 through 10.
'Derelict'. You never really understood the text book definition, but to you, it's always mean 'Things that slipped through the cracks, things ruined and forgotten.' Isn't that what these things are? Neglected balls of darkness. You wax poetic for a moment, imagining them as demons formed from the little evils inside everyone. Little issues people never resolved, their dying regrets, their unspoken secrets that cry out for someone to hear them... for someone to remember their story.

Those thoughts ground you, and you end up coming off your fiery high with a strange kind of calm... it's the kind of calm that could be something greater... but you're not ready for whatever realization is on the edge of your perception, you can feel it. So, instead, you turn around and find that you have an audience of one.

Huh, "Hey Boss." You say, giving her a bit of a wave. She finishes the last bite of her breakfast and chews it slowly, just looking at you. "... So uh, don't know if you've heard, but I'm going to spar with someone who lives here. Don't suppose you can tell me some stuff about her?" You ask. "Tall, white skin with blue highlights all over the place. Looks like a cartoon robot, but like, five times sexier and twenty percent cooler?"

She pulls a black notebook with a red biohazard sign on it from... somewhere, and writes something down with a pen she got from... somewhere. Then she gets rid of them and looks back at you. "Soo... ExJay's power... Heh. Hell if I know. She's like a living, breathing, fucking hunk of metal. And she just pulls shit outta her ass, sometimes literally, whenever she really needs it... Well, not literally. I mean, she's pulled shit out of her ass before, but... nevermind. More importantly, if you're really planning to fight her then capitalize on her transformation sequences. And don't worry about going overboard. She can walk through solid steel without a scratch."

Boss gave you a good bit of info their, if in a rather... scatterbrained w-"OH! Also. If she starts turning red and stuff, just call the match, m'kay? I don't want to pay for damages if she blasts a hole through the base again." She adds on. "And if she turns yellow then you sh... actually, you know what? If she changes colors at all just stop fighting for me, would you? I'll owe you one."

"Uh, alright. Damn. Sounds like she's a bit of a handful." You say.

She shrugs. "She's one of our best frontliners and all around she's a solid cape. Heh, yeah... solid." She shakes her head a bit. "But don't worry, she can pull her punches, and she's real good about keeping to the spirit of a fight, so I'm sure she'll just show you the ropes without anything to worry about. Ganbatte!~ or whatever the chinks say in this world." She adds on with a yawn, stretching out in her recliner. "Anything else you want, or can I nap?" She asks, setting her plate on a table and pulling a blanket over her pale legs.

"Heheh. Yeah, sorry for taking your time. Sweet dreams Boss." You say, standing and making your way out of the room.

"Whatever, it's fine. Remember, don't get stupid when ya'll fight." She says, closing her eyes as you watch from the door way. You agree, and step out into the hallway proper.
Now, to find your sister...

_ _ _ + _ _ _

You traveled the halls for almost half an hour, finding no small amount of interesting things.
Workshops, Gym, more mess hall/lounges, tons of rooms and even a small jail of sorts. But when you finally found what, or should you note, who, you were looking for, she was coming out of the basement with some obvious bags under her eyes. "Oh. Hey there... Clark? What are you doing near the basement?" She asks as the elevator doors shut behind her.
The green lights turn red and go out before you thought of a response. "Oh, uh. Actually I didn't know where I was. I was just roaming the base and looking for you. I gotta say though sis, this place has too many damn floors. God, finding you was a nightmare. Wanna watch me get my shit kicked in by 'Exjay'?"

"..." She stares at you disapprovingly... right, cussing, older protective sibling.

You sigh. "What I meant to say was, 'Doth thou wisheth to partake in the spectacle of mine tootsielous maximus getting done in by the noble 'Exjay?" You prod her with a truly ridiculous re-statement and she laughs, taking some of the tired exhaustion out of her demeanor.

The laugh's like a mixture between a bronze wind-chime and rolling marbles... not literally, but it's a good way to think about it. "C'mon kiddo. Where's this going down?" She asks as you begin walking down the halls together.
You had, thankfully, found the most likely location already. "Well. I'm assuming it's in the giant obstacle course/training ground below this floor, right?" You ask, remembering the huge ass space you'd discovered a bit ago. "Doubt there's many other places to train and spar... unless there's some hidden ''back yard'' or whatever around here... Actually, where the hell is here?" You ask her.
tbc
>>
>>3690568

"Well..." She starts, not forgetting to make a sound of disapproval for your cussing. "... Believe it or not, we're on the Southern Frontier right now. About thirty miles from civilized lands. Turns out, one of the only places the team can easily act publicly is a place where all people want is a stabilizing force. Here on the frontier, we're doing good work protecting reclamation efforts and research hubs from all kinds of threats..."

Huh... you gotta admit, that's pretty damn awesome... but why didn't she tell you any of this stuff... before? You don't ask it now, you don't want to bring up whatever led her here, let alone whatever she's had to go through. But you can't help wonder, what's your sister doing in a group of monsters only parahumans? And on the damn frontier, no less?

Well, you're shaken from your silent thoughts when she puts a hand on your shoulder. "Clark? Are you okay?" She asks.

"Y-yeah. I was just thinking about something, I think. It uh, it's one of the things I do. You think, don't you?" You ask, pushing a bit of humor at her that makes her roll her eyes and give a half serious sigh of exasperation.

“Yes, I think Clark. I think you’ve somehow managed to become even more incorrigible since waking up.” She says. “Well, probably at least. I’m not sure if… all my memories are right.” She sighs. “Maybe I’m the one who’s acting out of character.”
Her voice… is bitter. It doesn’t suit her, and it reveals just a hint of what she and so many other people are struggling with…
It freaks you out, you won’t deny it. Waking up from ‘that dream’ in confusion, in pain and terror as your powers go wild… That was terrifying for you, but what’s worse is the quiet thoughts. ‘Am I still me?’ How many capes are struggling with that, now? How many dreamers will wake up to these thoughts? Will any of us get answers for the questions we’re too afraid to ask?

>>
>>3691028
It might be charm in the romantic sense, so it backfires on sisters.
>>
>>3691028
It's difficult to charisma someone out of the existential dread that they are no longer the individual they were.
That they have been artificially changed. Given memories of lives they never lived, desires that conflict with their beliefs, and in certain cases, the realization that their family and friends will all be suffering in the same, but different, ways.
You may have a 6 in charm, but this is a hard thing to comfort someone about. Especially when you are suffering as well, even if you have not grasped your reality as fully..

This is as good a cape name as we could've ever come up with, QM. Hands down

Out of character? Huh... "Well. I don't know about all that cogwash, but I'll tell you what..." You pause and wait for her answer.

"..." She looks at you expectantly, but you don't say anything.
...
... *cough* She is still looking at you. Heh, now's the time to strike! "What're you staring at me for?" You ask her. "Do I got breakfast on my face or something?"
She just... blinks. It's as if you've somehow stunned her with your sheer... absurdity. "No you dunce, I'm obviously waiting to hear '''what'''

"OHhh~" Reaaaaally gotta draw it out. You're almost there, her twitching eye is a unique precursor to optimal levels of irritation. "Well uh. Hmm. Oh, I remember!!" You exclaim after a few careful seconds.

She gestures to keep going, and you open your mouth. "And I -ooh? Uh..." You leave your mouth open, finger raised.
A heartbeat passes, then a second follows and you move your hand behind your head with a sheepish smile. "Woops! My bad, I guess I forgot." You give a small laugh as your sister begins to berate you with an irritated tiradical lecture. Of course, you spend more time wondering if 'tiradical' is a word than actually paying attention!~

_ _ _ + _ _ _

Of course, after promising to think before you speak next time and genuinely enjoying the familiar flow of a conversation with your sister, you arrived at the place you would soon fight! Well, 'spar'. You don't expect your fight will be anything less than the hardest battle of your life though. Superpowers were no joke before 'the dream', and now everyone has SUPER super-powers, to the point that... people are dying cause of it.
Death isn't something you're... new, to. But it is a terrible reality that you aren't exactly excited to hear about or look forwards to dealing with in your own fights to come. And you are looking forwards to, or at least expecting, fights to come. There's no way you're going to live in a superhero base with superpowers and not become a superhero... Well, that's actually not your real reason, you're actually worried about your sister, so you plan on getting a handle of your powers, seeing how you match up with a veteran like Exjay, and then doing what you can to support her and realize your potential.

If things are as bad as they seem around these parts, then you'll definitely need to step up your game...

[Probably last update of this thread. Unless we miraculously start bumping or something. I also want to rework the character system. I'm considering gurps, but any changes will take time for me to implement, even if we're still bumping 'somehow' then the thread will likely fall before I'm ready to play out the fight.

So far, here's what I have for your character's disadvantages using GURPs basic ruleset.

Disadvantages

Why Didn’t I Die Then? -15 points
Because of what you’ve been through and what you’ve survived, a certain… mania has developed within you, instigated by your recent awakening.
You can not backdown from a truly life-threatening situation unless you succeed on a self control check of 12. If you fail, this means you throw yourself feet first into hell, or whatever the relevant analogy would be for the danger at hand.
- You may try again after every success roll or reaction roll relating to the situation.
- Once you take ¼ of your hp in damage, you gain Bloodlust temporarily against all allies of the person who last injured you.
- If you sustain half of your hp in damage, force others to sustain ¼ hp damage while trying to ‘save/back you up’ or otherwise aid you, or you kill someone due to your Bloodlust, you will suffer the effects of your Guilt Complex and add one negative stack to Duty of the Survivor.

Duty of the Survivor - 15 points
You made a promise to leave behind a life of crime and forgo revenge against the people who killed your closest companions.
You gain a -1 to Will every time you act against your duty to move on and live happily. This stacks to a maximum of -5. After every day that you respect the wishes of the dead and follow this promise, you may remove one -1.
Tinker Chems can negate the above maluses for 2d6-4 days but will immediately raise you to your maximum of -5 when they wear off.
If you go a week without acting against your duty, you gain a +1 to Will and Self control rolls to overcome your addiction.
- At 1 month you gain a +2
- At 3 months you gain a +3
- At six months, the resolution of your duty is at hand. You can buy off this malus for 10 points.
:HOWEVER
-If you remain at five negative stacks for longer than three weeks AND fall into a state of chronic depression, this malus will be removed and both ‘Chronic Depression’ AND ‘Duty of the Survivor’ will be transformed into the following disadvantages. “Obsession - Revenge, Delusion - Someday Soon, and Manic-Depression”

Guilt Complex -5 points
After the death of your ‘gang’ in an event that only you survived, you can’t bare to lose anyone else. It’s one of the reasons why you tried so hard to avoid your surviving friends and sibling.
If anyone you are very close to has anything ‘actually’ bad happen to them, regardless of your involvement, you will feel responsible.
If the mishap was not your fault, you will suffer the effects of Chronic Depression for (15 - Will) days, minimum one day. Use your Will as your effective self-control number. If the mishap was your fault, the effects of Chronic Depression will last (20 - Will) days, minimum two days, and your effective self-control number is Will-3.
>>
>>3707230

‘Addiction’ - 15 points
Once a week you will feel the need to take tinker chems to keep you ‘stable’.
After three weeks without a dose, you will gain fatigue at double your normal rate for any reason.
After two months, you will fall into a state of ‘chronic depression’ unless you succeed a self control check of 9 - rolled every 2 weeks.
If you can stay clean for half a year or make progress towards solving the root of your ‘addiction’, your ‘withdrawal’ symptoms will be severely reduced and you can buy off this disadvantage.
>>
>>3707235
Damn, I didn't know we took enough to get addicted. Any tinker out there make a rehab drug?
>>
>>3707539
The addiction is tied up in a severe mental dependence.
That's why pretty much 'any' tinker 'chem' will satisfy it. It's kind of like being addicted to 'smoking' but anything from crack to cigarettes can fill in the spot.
>>
>>3708086
Any bio tinker out there able to brain surgery the addiction out of us?
>>
>>3708169
Definitely. But finding one, meeting whatever requirements they would have, fighting the consequences of willfully and harmfully over-coming your disadvantages, and a few other factors would make it a pain in the ass.

The way this would play out if it wasn't a quest is the MC struggling with this for about a year, slipping back to the chems so that he can stay in top shape (+/- 0 self control) so that he can keep control of his powers, dealing with the fallout of plot hurting his friends and sister and narrowly avoiding mental breaks as he finally balances the desires of his inner demons with his promise and maanges to eake out a happy living for a few months before coming to terms with his past and moving on.

Now, that's just what it would be like if this wasn't a quest dictated by whim and roll, so to speak. You could kick this in a few months, give in to the constant and grating pressure, seek a short-cut/alternative solution, or any manner of other things.
>>
>>3708237
Living with maluses sucks. Short cuts rule. Giving in to constant grating pressure also very tempting but no one ever goes for that.
>>
>>3708260
That's one way to get a very big boost to your powers, I guess. It'd also pretty much ruin your life though, or, your attempts at starting a new one with your sister and friends. It has the side-benefit of becoming a Manic-Depressive stew of new and interesting maluses that double as a kind of strength once your morality flips.
But uh, that's an issue for the future you.
>>
>>3707539
>solving your drug problem with more drugs
>>
>>3708451
Can't go into withdrawal if you never withdraw
>>
Alright, here's the tentative finished sheet.

fatigue, stamina pretty much.

Manipulating your 'Ally' will cost you FP in stressful situations, and you can 'burn' FP in order to strain yourself on physical checks to help force a pass, sometimes.
>>

Haha

Your posts reference points a lot, saying we can buy skills and remove maluses. Quick overview of these points and how to earn them?
>>
>>3711088
Character points are earned by going through stressful experiences and succeeding, experiencing large events that impact the world and your life, and as bonuses for putting in extra effort to the quest. (In character or out of character. An example is anon-friends making stuff for the quest that I think is worth CP or other bonuses, OR the Main Character making a repeated effort to better himself.)

There's two kinds of Points though. Character points can be spent anywhere on the sheet, but Progress points go only to their relevant skill/attribute/characteristic.

You get progress points through practice or as rewards for pulling off something impressive with the skill/attribute/characteristic.

Lift a car to save someone in a moment of life or death? Gain some progress points towards Strength.
Avoid the gunfire of a firing squad? Get some progress points towards Dexterity or Speed.

Things like that. But, like I said, Character Points are worth 2 Progress points, and can be spent anywhere.
