Driven to comprehend everything that has thus far evaded your awareness, you turn your attention to the string that connects you to each of the golems. Like any of the astral strands it is ephemeral, at once resilient enough to resist nigh-any physical force, but fragile and easily shapen to the will of one so driven. You are no tailor of civilized lands, nor are you are an experienced wool-worker of the nomad clans, but you are if not adept, adequate at stitching the strings which connect all souls to one another, and if need be, tearing them apart. At a thought, they unravel then piece themselves back together.

It is an intricate symphony of the intangible in motion, and after almost a month of study you come to the conclusion that the strings which flow from you into the golems serve not only as an energy source, but a firm and binding connection between you and the clay made animate. When you speak a command, you find that the strand thrums with the echo of your intention, piercing through the unseen and embedding itself in the golem’s structure. The command is soon received, sending the golem’s proto-soul sent into a quiet cacophony of motion spurred on by the intent within the string.

You study the echoes, repeating yourself at incremental intervals to find that the spontaneity of motion ebbs and flows with your clarity of focus at the time of uttering the command, yet are surprised to note that the speed of the proto-soul’s fragments interlocking invariably escalates to the highest level possible without ‘overheating.’ Such trifles as temperature have little bearing in the mindscape, golem or man, but it is the best word to describe the rapid fraying and subsequent disintegration you would expect from an overabundance of strands overwhelming the proto-soul or attempting to feed it conflicting commands.

> (1/6)
>>
>>3687090

Filled with curiosity, you attempt to feed the golem two mutually contradictory commands, one after the other, to find that the second takes precedence, but when you handhold your wife through the intricate process of attuning a strand to the golem, and give it a command at once, you find that yours takes precedence over hers. Removing the strand connecting her to the golem, you hypothesize the reasoning behind this commendable loyalty and deduce that either the golem relies on the strength of will of the one giving it commands, or it defers to whichever attuning string has been attached the longest, which raises the question of how it determines the span of time passed without a cohesive mind to keep track.

These conundrums are most frustrating, but you’ve attained a respectable amount of understanding regarding the strands, and feel it is safe to say you have a firm understanding of how you are able to command the golem at the present time. You’ll have to engage in further study in the future to determine how it comprehends your intent without any process of conscious thought. It is an interesting enigma, and only increases your curiosity regarding the ins-and-outs of the golem’s function, but more important is what’s come to pass in the last two months of diligent study.

For one, your wife has failed to achieve significant progress in the discipline of hexcraft, and for another, your firstborn son Asura has almost crippled a combatant slave. Apparently, during a former warrior’s attempt to teach your son how to swing a club, he was caught off-guard when the relatively enormous toddler tripped his ankle, swung up to crack his jaw on the way down, and shattered the crude weapon on his chest. Too scared to interrupt your studies or stop his, for fear of incurring your wrath, once they verified the combatant slave in question wasn’t crippled, they taught him the concept of sparring and resumed immediately. So far, he’s doing better than most children twice his age and though wary within sparring distance, his trainers are convinced he’ll be a fearsome warrior when he’s grown.

> How should you respond to Asura’s behavior?
> Encourage his interest in spontaneous violence, because the more bloodthirsty he is by the time he’s old enough to shatter skulls, the better.
> Encourage his interest in violence, but scold him for almost causing irreparable damage to someone that could’ve been a useful tool in the future.

When that’s finished, you turn your attention to the work the golems and snap-jaws are doing on the ruins of the palace, and finding it not to your satisfaction but close enough not to warrant corporeal punishment, you leave them to their duty in favor of taking the flying carpet for a spin. So many weeks you’ve laid in wait at the tower while dozens of snap-jaws go wasting their lives crawling through the sand, and as amusing as the thought might be, you deduce that there’s no reason not to take flight and do what they wish they could’ve done.

All the same, you instruct them to continue scouting as normal, and deeply savor the dumbfounded looks on their stupid little faces when you tell them that you’re going to be conducting an expedition on the back of the flying carpet. Deciding that there’s no reason not to start from the corner of the pitiful map they’ve begun, you travel to the upper-rightmost region you know of and begin flying in loops in an attempt to catch sight of something worthwhile. It takes you almost two weeks to reach where you feel the corner should be, and are curious to note that the yellowed sand here gives way to reddened rock. The change of scenery is pleasant to say the least, and soaring through the sky you note an abundance of valleys and gorges intersecting the mountains there.

Flying closer to the ground, you clarify the presence of dried rivers here and there, and swiftly come to the conclusion that this was once a prosperous region. More concerningly, you’re beginning to remember what that pair of sterile snap-jaws were rambling about when they returned from the failed expedition, and coming to realize that the terrain beneath matches their description verbatim. You’re beginning to think it might be a better idea to simply return home and resume your studies in full, elsewise you might-

What in the name of the graven idols was that?!? It was a deep, blood-curdling, deeply bestial, and utterly alien noise if not called forth from the deepest pits of hell, then wrought from another plane entirely! This is worrisome, most worrisome, you need to leave-

A billouous fog of flaming mucus misses the flying carpet by perhaps three paces, and soaring forward at blistering speeds, you turn to catch sight of an abomination beyond mortal ken. The aberration is perhaps a fifth the size of the palace and can only be described as that- An aberrant affront to everything natural and holy, resembling a titanic slug with bat’s wings and a snapping scorpion’s tail. It screeches yet again-

>*SQUIIIIRRRRSSSNNNIIIIIK*

At the sight of you upon your flying carpet, and you recognize the glowing foam coalescing about its gaping, slavering maw. This unnatural monster, for it can be known as nothing other, might be beyond even your strength.

This monstrosity… It’s power is beyond reckoning and it could serve as a most magnificent minion, if only you could bring it to heel! Lust for conquest overriding your sense of self-preservation, you turn the flying carpet and ride toward it at angle. It spits again, with a horrendous-

>*SQUIIIIRRRRSSSNNNIIIIIK*
>*FUULLCHUUUUUUUUUUK*

But your mastery of the winds is such that you manage to dodge the nauseating fog, no matter that its stench is reminiscent of burning scat, and begin howling various salutations in the languages you know. The Tongue and Contemporary Settik alike yield nothing, and neither do Proto-Settik or the Snap-Jaw’s barking but at the sound of Ancient Dravidian… Oh, the most ruinous and ruined Ancient Dravidian...

Angers it. Though rather than attempt to slay or devour you, it begins to screech a tongue that sends cold shivers running down your spine, and even if you can’t comprehend so much as a syllable of what it slurs, you swiftly seize clarity from the depths of your memory. The only other time you’ve felt such a fundamental, inconceivable sense of wrongness was when you broke upon the black scrolls of those who once owned the palace, and it is then that you realize, flying rug rippling on the winds, that this beast is truly spawned of hell. It ceases its furious tirade as quickly as it came, and prepares to strike again-

>*SQUIIIIRRRRSSSNNNIIIIIK*
>*FUULLCHUUUUUUUUUUK*

To no avail, as you are quick to evade. All the same, you can’t dodge indefinitely and sooner rather than later, you’ll have to land.

Throwing the notion of subjugating the gargantuan slug straight from the pits of the hells themselves to the winds, you spin the flying carpet around and fly away swifter than even your keen eye can see. Glancing over your shoulder you determine that, while the beast’s bat-wings carry its tremendous bulk far better than they have any right to, they cannot hope to outpace your nimble and deftly-maneuvered floor tapestry of choice.

>*SQUIIIIRRRRSSSNNNIIIIIK*
>*FUULLCHUUUUUUUUUUK*

- As many times as it may, it fails to begin to strike you even once, and you even get the opportunity to fling a fireball against its blubbery hide, only to hear it-

>*SQUIIIIRRRRSSSNNNIIIIIK*

In response to the mild burn that would’ve been far worse, were the target not coated with glistening slime. Little by little, moments turn to minutes turn to hours, and the projectiles are flung more and more seldom, until eventually they cease entirely. The beast flies away but you do not take the opportunity to rest, for it is wise enough to comprehend whatever manner of blasphemous tongue it spoke unto you, it should be more than able to pull a clever ambush. You should know, you’d do the same in the situation and soaring in the clouds, you get a good two leagues before a distant and angry-

>*squiiiirrrrsssnnniiiiik*

Can be heard, and three more fading off into the horizon. It seemed you were right to keep fleeing the fell creature. You’re free to travel home and begin your preparations for the next summer but the fact that you’ve failed to uncover anything else of note on your first aerial scouting expedition has you irritated. Still, the risk that you might encounter the abomination and incur its wrath again remains.

After much contemplation, you decide that a month spent in search of something of value that went unfound would be wasted, and so you resolve that you shall not return to your palace until you have found something of sufficient value. Soaring through the skies, you persist in your endeavor for no less than five days and five nights before you catch sight of what might be worthwhile; the crumbling ruins of a tower some four stories high on the side of a mountain’s slope. Deeply intrigued, you land the flying carpet several hundred paces away, and stand, only to pause in brief confusion. There, before the age-blackened door of the ruin are what seem to be a dozen mushrooms, enlarged to almost twice the size of a snap-jaw, twisted into a crude mockery of man’s shape, and endowed with a crude semblance of sapience.

Before you can come to terms with what you’re seeing, they sprint closer and one pelts a rock with vicious tenacity. Though the creature’s strength could’ve dealt a fearsome blow, its accuracy is lacking and you need not dodge, as its crude implement of war clatters to the stones beside you. Staring, you quickly determine that an unknown number of these “shroomfolk” are inhabiting this ruin and that before you can ascertain the nature of what marvels might be held within, you must subjugate or exterminate these vermin. Frustratingly, they seem to lack mouths entirely, and even as adorable as their feeble attempts to ascend to the summit on which you’ve seated yourself are, they’ll get there sooner rather than later, and you must come to a decision if you don’t wish to be thrown from the mountainside.

> Minor Success

Closing your eyes, you enter a meditative calm and with a handful of deep breaths, exit your material form. The expanse beyond your physicality is vast, but far below, you can detect a dozen strangely shaped presences. These are flickering lights in the darkness but against the inferno of your will supreme, they are nothing candles, and easily snuffed out. Forcing your way into the mind of the foremost among them, you crush his sense of self, and in its stead, you place a single, unstoppable, and nigh-unbreakable compulsion to serve. This causes another commanding-strand to manifest in the astral, but where its golem counterpart was rigid, its composition is in a state of perpetual flux, probably owing to its unusual origins. Not having the time to investigate further, you assail the remainder.

Alone, each of them is weak and feeble, but altogether they pose a formidable challenge. Nonetheless, in some five minutes, your will reigns supreme and each of the shroomfolk kneels before your majesty as you descend. Forcing the minds of lesser beings to serve your every whim should become easier in time, as you further your attunement to the mind. Hopefully soon, this newfound art will become second nature. The feeble and ancient door clatters inward at your insistence, and soon after the secrets of the ancient tower reveal themselves. Judging by the ample luxuries and riches to be found, it must’ve once belonged to a reclusive and wealthy individual, and while most of the tomes in his library have crumbled to dust, the two titles remaining indicate a fair deal of his interests.

> (1/2)
>>
>>3687906

A weighty, silver-inlaid grimoire titled ‘Embrace Anger- Ascend’ and a mildly stained, yellowed and battered, but well-thumbed work aptly named ‘101 Reasons Not To Trust Cookfires’. Skimming through both, you find that these are sorcerous books relating to the discipline of fire, each with an extremely different approach, writing style, and as you examine closer, level of requisite expertise. ‘Embrace Anger- Ascend’ is a deeply serious, philosophical text encouraging the reader to take the first steps into the flames so as to better ‘cleanse the impurity around thyself’ whereas ‘101 Reasons Not To Trust Cookfires’ details none of the basics in favor of satirizing and downplaying the effects of intricate and advanced fiery invocations as they relate to common foodstuffs.

Each is most curious, and you pocket them post-haste but the question of what you’re going to do with the tremendous quantity of treasure and your newfound minions so far from the palace remains. You could leave them within the tower until you’ve found the time to relocate your wealth and servants, or you could waste another month relocating their entirety to your palace. Alternatively, you could simply send snap-jaws to find and haul the plentiful sum of riches to your palace, but you aren’t so certain how they would handle the shroomfolk. Come to think of it, you don’t even know how much an acceptable range this “mind-seizure” has.

> What should you do?
>>
Hey, you guys remember how shroom patches are usually connected to a central nucleus relatively deep underground?

What if we're dealing with a hivemind? Would the extra processing power make things harder, or would it be easier since we only have a single mind to contend with?

> 20 VS DC: 16
> Supreme Success

Gathering the shroomfolk, you pile the overabundance of treasure into moth-bitten sacks and set off on a long and arduous march toward the palace. Or, they do. You sit cross-legged on the flying carpet, enjoying the breeze upon your face. Over the course of the three-odd weeks of laborious trekking you find that the shroomfolk are having severe difficulty not-drying out in the desert heat, and though none of them succumb, you fear that this might reduce their utility in tasks to come. Even so, their minds are enthralled to you and so they march, regardless of their instinctive desire to keel over and curl into a fetal position to preserve moisture. Miraculously, none die by the time you accidentally uncover the skeleton.

It’s pure, naked chance along but it’s fortunate that you had the wind blowing and saw fit to send a gust of sand into a nearby shroomfolk’s face for the humor of it. You sense that if it had a mouth or free will it would complain but it does not and so you do not care. More interesting is the sight of the rag-swaddled bleached bones buried beneath the sand and a brief investigation reveals that it died clutching (yet another!) tome titled, ‘The Art of Maligning the Righteous- As Elucidated By Molmathach, Maker of Woe’

Predictably enough, it details the art of inflicting a number of hexes, ranging from the barely noticeable, to the inconvenient, to the rumor-spreading, to the suicide-inducing and was penned by a certain fiend by the name Molmathach, Maker of Woe. They left a summoning sigil in the back, and much of the writing relates to why one should exult their ambition above the heavens themselves. More specifically, it explains that Molmathach, Maker of Woe, is the most reasonable, least dangerous patron one could summon and form a pact with, and that despite what many rumors at the time of writing might say, they most certainly do not enjoy torturing and subsequently eating the elderly, no matter how much the pain may or may not improve the flavor of “aged-meat.” Overall, the writing is descriptive but self-indulgent and leaves you feeling the writer suffered from crippling delusions of grandeur.

Soon enough, you arrive back at the palace and your family and minions are most-pleased to see you, because they were worried you had died a horrible death at the hands of the “flying squishy” the pair of snap-jaw survivors warned everyone about. The fact that you came back laden with treasure does not fail to impress, you’re sure to embellish the tale beyond all reason and embrace your wife, both mind and body, long into the night.

This season, twelve lower-caste and fourteen upper-caste snap-jaws were born. Two goats were butchered to meet Asura’s need for protein, but three goats were born, resulting in a net gain. Your children are developing well, though Sabaaha hasn’t shown any tangible improvement in their intelligence, whatsoever.

The Spring is gone, and the Summer of Year 9 is imminent. Despite your long and vigorous welcome home, your wife isn’t pregnant.

Anon mentioned it before but we're definitely in the center of a former magical empire that got dusted from hell shenanigans.
It was probably plains that stretched to those mountains before becoming a giant garbage bin of ancient magic.

I wonder if this is the place where demonic things got their bad name, like the historical source for "demon's bad m'kay?" that even we knew about.
Months of travel in any direction is sand. I don't know how to feel about that, sand makes for a difficult civilization.
What's worse, traveling to any enemies and back. It's a great natural barrier but supply lines for anything more demanding than Golems or cheap minions will be costly.
Since it's not like we can build flying carpets for our golems.

>>3688795
I'd like to but like >>3688802 says we need expert aides for that. If we don't want him to just break it.
Regular steel in an iron age is high tier metallurgy, it's funny but IRL we had steel even in the bronze age. But good quality steel may as well be magic compared to that stuff.

Our character doesn't even know forging ratios and temperatures. I'm sure it's not beyond us if we devoted the time but I think it's better we delegate that to someone who's already been doing it their whole life.

Your curiosity is piqued by the two tomes you’ve found, and the desire to delve into the mysteries of the flames which began your sorcerous endeavors outweighs your urge to understand the function and production of the golems which you’ve so come to depend on. Digging into ‘101 Reasons Not To Trust Cookfires’ you find that despite the gut-churningly hilarious nature of its content, you simply aren’t able to grasp anymore than the simplest bits and pieces of the finer details, that you most infuriatingly lack the knowledge to properly piece together. As enjoyable as the read might’ve been compared to the droll tomes you’re accustomed to, you deem that it might be more prudent to subject yourself to the “philosophy” contained within ‘Embrace Anger- Ascend’ in the future.

Pushing the tomes aside, you deign to spend some quality time with your family and enjoy a number of most enjoyable picnics and bedside discussions. Therein, you struggle not to explain the intricacies of the occult you’ve begun studying, and force yourself to engage in mind-numbingly trivial small talk. At least Asura’s tales of bludgeoning snap-jaws and nomad warriors alike are somewhat entertaining, nonetheless, there are a handful of obstacles both seem to be unable to surmount. If Aafira is to be believed, she’s been unable to further her understanding of the runic script on her own and would be most grateful if you taught her what post-ironic iambic pentameter is, and what exactly it has to do with some of the more sophisticated metaphoric authorities.

Furthermore, despite his stunning size and strength for one so young, Asura isn’t committing to his studies of the cudgel, preferring to beat and bludgeon the smaller snap-jaws. There haven’t been any fatalities so far, but his studies have begun to decline. When you ask some of the nomads responsible for his training about it, they explain that traditionally children don’t begin training in full until at least they’re five summers of age, and that they’re honestly stunned he’s been doing so well at barely four summers. Regardless, they vow to do what they can to rectify the situation, lest you see them sleeping amongst the snap-jaws.

Finishing your attempts to socialize with your family, you feel that they think somewhat better of you but all the same, the lack of a true intellectual peer torments you night and day. Turning your focus to ‘The Conflux of Corruption & Thought: Vol II’ you become increasingly convinced that attaining a fiendish familiar wrought from the reflection of your soul in the pits of hell is an excellent idea, and resolve to wrest a proper understanding of demonology from the black scrolls before attempting to do so. Studying the Yoobrik’s manuscript, you read between the lines, finding a number of well-hidden occult symbols, and while it feels nauseous, you push these feelings aside in pursuit of power.
Raw, naked power… These people around you; they love you, yes, even worship you, but they are ignorant of even the scantest shreds of sorcerous knowledge which you learned so long ago, and their unapologetic, unrepentant idiocy fills you with rage! Tumultuous fury so profound as to render the wrath of the flames no more than paltry spite in comparison, but rather than go into a month long tantrum, you succumb to the wellspring of incandescent madness and casting your realm-conquering pride aside, allow your conscious and subconscious thought alike to submit to these depths of world-shattering rage.

You cannot think, only sense, as you forcefully tear a rift between realities, and stumbling back from the sensation of unnatural cold and chilling fear, open your eyes to witness the briefest glimpse of seething darkness that can only be described as the absence of all things pure. Then, just as quickly as it came the rift is stitched back together as if it were never there, and the anger has vanished from your soul. Some spite is still there, but no more than normal, and as you ponder the ramifications of this, you hear a clattering noise. Glancing up, you see what appears to be a hunchbacked lump of muscle with the eyes and wings of an insect, and covering its form, patchwork sheets of rusted iron that have been bolted down and seared straight onto its exposed sinews by unimaginable heat.

> (2/3)

>>3689781

In its gnarled claws it hefts a fearsome battleaxe, and you sense that if you weren’t three times this creature’s size you would be gripped with mortal terror, but as it is you are far from at ease. The abomination, nay, the demon glares at you with spite incomprehensible to anyone not so detached from sanity as you already are, and hisses with a guttural, phlegmy voice before releasing a wet cough and speaking in a high-pitched voice that sounds more like a thousand chitinous insects screeching against one another more than any mortal tongue. The wrath in its speech is undeniable, but it is restrained by a thread, and you comprehend its words, though you feel that this is owed more to the fact its black speech twists in your mind to be heard more than any fluency in The Tongue of the fiend.

> Sorcerer… Thine soul is… PURE… Too pure to be summoning my ilk…
> I see I am bound by no circle… If I did not sense the power flowing from thou…
> I would strike down thine flesh… And feast on thine soul like so much wine…
> But I shan’t... For though I HATE this place… The HATE burns lesser here than…
> There… What was thine purpose in bringing I- Uz’Gol... HERE..?

You sense that this demon lacks patience, and that you’d best respond one way or another before it runs thin.

Other than keeping it battered down with wind magic enough to runecraft real unpleasant shit directly on its body I'm not sure we've got something better than mind magic. Stall until the golems can get here and hold it down, maybe?

We do have a powerful wand, probably the best time to use it. How to actually use it without annihilating the demon.
>>
>>3690246
*is what I'm trying to think of.
>>
>>3690223
We could start by slicing its axe-arm off with wind blades. Being in the same room as an armed opponent's pretty dangerous, and trying to use mind magic could get us killed.
>>
>>3690223
Judging by its description, he seems to be covered in literal metal that is attached directly to its flesh. I'm thinking we use cuts from wind magic to "clip" his winds and then use more wind magic to fly out of his reach. He's like 2 feet tall. Once we do that, we can use fire magic on his metal body until he's weakened enough to become incapacitated. Once we do that, we can have a golem hold onto him while we figure out how to use runes to bind him in a more useful way. I highly advise against mind magic by the way. Even though he's a little runt, he's still a demon.

I’ll give you another hour or so to ponder. To clarify, the demon has no skin, only exposed muscle and most of its form has been covered with plates of rusted iron, bolted and crudely melted directly into the sinews beneath. Despite its small stature it has a dangerous amount of strength, though you doubt its wings are capable of lifting its weight anymore than to improve its jumps. It is extremely angry and given its fiendish nature, bringing its mind to yield could be difficult at best.

Your body has been immolated in hellfire and your mind dominated by a fiend, but the sheer scale of your pride caught the aberration off-guard, and your soul managed to evade its grasp in the moments it manifested in the mortal realm. This is a catastrophe, and you are technically undead but fear not- possession is possible.

We got three 1's in a row plus another 1 ontop of that that is crazy unlucky. I'd expect the golems to start trying to kill us at that point. I'd be happy if we get dragged to hell and enslaved at this point.

you're gonna make us roll for the possession vs. the willpower of our firstborn child aren't you

We should do a little bit of both. With Asura's brawn and Azikial's brains, we should create the ultimate lifeform. And maybe act a bit more cautiously this time.

If we want the help of our wife definitely pretend. Cause our wife will definitely lose it/crack if we take over our son. Or we could feed her some stuff like, "Honey I'm just doing this till we can make me a new body."

Actually
>>3690732
Could we possess a golem or make a new one for our soul later?
>>
>>3690775
If we can possess a golem, I want to do that instead. If that's impossible, we definitely need to figure out how to make a new one.
>>

Retain our personality but act as if we are asura and the mantle of god king has passed down to him which would explain to the snap jaws why he can cast magic now.

That depends, do you want to coexist with Asura’s mind and soul, or do you want to consume everything he is and inhabit the husk? Alternatively, you could consume the mind alone and retain the memories and inclinations of his soul but that could lead to some mental disorders down the line.

>>3690775
You can’t possess a golem, they don’t have the infrastructure to support a natural human soul.
>>
>>3690780
Based on his many descriptions of how Golem work, they seem pretty incompatible with human souls. We're absolutely fucked, but our best hope is to possess our youngest son and pray to whoever will listen we can keep things from degenerating into full blown anarchy. At least that's how I see it
>>

>>
Oh right the mind control on the shrooms was radially tied to us. That's probably kaput.

> Legendary Failure

Gazing upon the repugnant demon’s wretched visage, you consider its question in the span of some two seconds, and respond with the first words to come to mind. Taking in a deep breath, you sound your words without so much as a shred of the fear maligning your mind. “Teach me what you know.” The fiend pauses, struck dumb by the manner of your speech, and silence reigns for an eternal moment before it sends its battleaxe thudding through your desk with a frenzied, chittering howl beyond the volume its frame should contain.

> SORCERER… Thou wouldst summon ME… TO TEACH..!?!
> I- TAINTED SPAWN OF URZAMAATH THE SOUL-FLAYER..?!?!?
> SORCERER… Thou art the most BRAZEN of FOOLS…!!!
> Though I am wrought of WRATH… This INSULT unto mine PRIDE…
> CANNOT stand… SORCERER… FEEBLE, FOOLISH SORCERER...
> READY THYSELF TO DIE…!!! KOOOOR-SKREEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Though its eyes are not of man, in its pallid depths you perceive malice inconceivable, and it throws itself at you with frenzied tenacity any berserker would envy. Were you to hesitate in that scantest of instants, your head would’ve left your shoulders with admirable speed, but your conviction is unflinching, and you are the last to dither in the face of doom. Not pausing to comprehend or dwell what is soon to occur, your mind returns to those pits of hate from whence you forced this demon into the material reality and from them, your maniacal, instinctive understanding wrests power most impure and profound.

Your robes billows with unearthly wind as the veil disintegrates from the black speech flowing from your lips, and this imp scarcely knows what hits it. An effortless tornado sends it crashing into the wall, as the stones around melt and cling to its form, which struggles to no avail as you raise your hands and, drunk with the hubris of one who has been denied power yet has stolen that of another, unleash a gout of rippling, seething, chilling hellfire darker than even the darkest of starless nights. The fiend writhes in unimaginable torment, wailing in agony indescribable as its battleaxe clatters to the floor and its corrupt state of being refuses to be undone, but by some inscrutable facet of hell’s wrath, its spite overwhelms its pain, and it manages to form a single, damnable sentence which does not go unheard.

> URZAMAATH… I, UZ’GOL... CALL ON THEE… TO SOUND THINE DIRGE…!!!

It is then that the weight of the ages is upon you and you realize how insignificant you truly are. Every light, from the minutest window’s glint to the faintest candle’s flicker is snuffed out, and in its place, darkness beyond description descends and a presence so corrupt you are left retching seizes upon your soul. This abominable shade is so far beyond you that a score of your minds could come against the dimmest snap-jaw in your motley horde, and you could scarcely match the least of the weakness you possess.

More than the aberrant, unthinkable essence of this spiritual affliction, is the terrible truth of malice that crashes over your instant of hate as easily as a blackened ocean overwhelming a rampart of sand, and in that moment before the lowliest vestige of conscious thought within is rent asunder, you perceive that which simply cannot *be* without an end to sanity. A brief, antagonistic mirth mirrors the despair flashing throughout your soul, and before thought ceases to be, you sense a moment of malevolent laughter.

When all that you are is rendered so much dust to be swept aside, and you are reduced to naught but animal instinct, you cling to the single compulsion which cannot be denied. Your cruel and naked pride. Metaphysical fangs flash like lightning, a slavering maw seizes about the entirety of your existence, and tears into it with a fell fury that is at once pettily casual and unrelenting in its hate. At this stage, a lesser one would be grateful to be condemned to eternal nothing in favor of neverending torture, but you are content to receive neither, and so you steel your soul at the instant of Its descension-

And Its hunger breaks upon your hubris. No more than a single tooth on the edge of its maw, and no more than the faintest of cracks, but this alone is sufficient to give It pause, and so you are free to escape, wriggling from Its ruinous rows of rending teeth. Infuriated by Its instant of failure, It reaches to flay your broken soul once more, but you have fled the chamber and try though It might, Its momentary projection onto the material plane is unable to grasp you before what little time Its allotted has ceased.

Then, quicker than it came it is gone, and the only sound to be heard is the ineffectual screeching of the oh-so lesser fiend you summoned. Only your subconscious mind remains and you do not care for anything more than the absence of the physicality which you so desperately require to indefinitely retain your substance of soul. Flying through the halls of the palace and screeching in soundless woe, it is by chance alone your invisible wisp comes upon the sight of your firstborn son Asura strangling yet another snap-jaw, and it is without the slightest havering that you force your way into his mind, screaming in instinctive defiance of death and indignant hate that he would dare bar your passage into the material plane. He collapses back from the vermin, who rises and sprints away, and begins to grip his skull, crying in despair at the alien presence gripping his mind, but his wordless terror falls on deaf ears.

For a four year old, his will is mighty indeed and in time, it could have sundered mountains but you lack the time to waste, and so you see it shattered. In a sick reverse of the earlier attempt at soul-flaying, your son’s mind is incapable of putting up anymore than a token fight, and drinking in his spiritual essence akin to so much wine, your presence of mind returns and you chuckle at the sudden, succinct thought that the tables have turned. The fact that you’ve committed an act inestimably worse than kinslaying without a hint of remorse does not occur, so much as the jubilance that not only have you faced an incarnation of evil itself, you have survived with no more loss than that soon-to-wither, frail, and undeniably inferior form and roughly one half of your attunement to the shadows.

So it is that you feel you have earned the right to endow yourself another epithet, though you feel it might be best to retain the secret for the foreseeable future.

> Title Gained!
> Breaker of Urzamaath: For enduring the wrath of an arch-demon and surviving with your soul in one piece.

When you’ve finished coming to terms with your tiny but stunningly powerful body, it occurs to you that you lack the faintest semblance of understanding as to how he normally behaved, and deduce that it would be best to keep your physique’s newfound cunning hidden from those who would otherwise discover the terrible truth. At least for the present. Returning to the study where the nightmare took place, you laugh at the sight of the demon, for every part of it below the neck is encased in hardened clay and pause to mourn your previous self’s passing, for all that remains is a pile of blackened ash and empty robes.

Thanking whatever graven idols might be missing, you are ecstatic to find that your first assumption was incorrect, and that the rod sheathed in your sleeve is intact. Pulling it into your tubby but strong hands, you are shocked to see that the zircons laid into the human femur bone glow brighter than the sun above, and are even moreso stunned to realize that the only reason you weren’t consumed mind, body, and soul was the protective influence of that artifact which you so rarely turned a single thought to.

You leave the study without a second thought, immediately stumble your way into the nearest unused closet, and hide it, along with the blood-written scroll behind a handful of parchments in a distinctive urn. Then you rush to find Aafira your mother? your wife? and doing your best infantile brute impersonation, explain that you heard a loud and terrible noise from the study room. She immediately rushes, throwing open the door, and collapses, wailing in wordless woe at the tragedy. The demon Uz’Gol begins to stammer that you’ve possessed your own son, but the both of you are stunned into silence when she lifts his battleaxe, lifts it over her shoulder, and severs his head with a single, downward swing.

You do your best to muster one or two tears and hug her waist, letting her know that you love your mommy, very, very much and that daddy must be in a better place. She drops the implement of war, grabs a nearby pot, and gathers your ashes with a sweeping broom. These are then placed onto the desk besides what remains of Waleed and you are stricken with the irony of the situation, and run screaming when she draws a dagger and moves to stab you, only to fall onto her knees, crying because this all happened so quickly.

It feels little better on your end, but you do what you can to console her without “breaking character” and between you and the shaman, she is mollified. Thankfully, the shaman manages to prevent a slave rebellion and anarchy among the snap-jaws, by reigning with an iron-fist in the name of the ‘ascended’ sorcerer-lord, and after the first hundred or so casualties, none dare defy him, lest the golems that have so mysteriously continued to do their work see their skulls ground into powder. Your mother wife? This is so confusing, you remember pounding into her nether regions as clearly as any day, but the urge to be hugged and reminded that you are a good boy is nonetheless unshakeable allows you the season to recover from what has come to pass, and after an opulent funeral ceremony held by none other than the increasingly silver-tongued and feeble-bodied shaman, you are left an overabundance of time to consider how you’re going to be handling the future.

> How do you want to approach the seasons to come?

> Keep up the masquerade, you’ll pretend to be Asura and spend the next decade or so training the physique that you can’t afford to neglect, before revealing that you have an uncanny talent for the sorceries of your father.
> Become the next god-king, reveal that when your father (you) died his spirit left its knowledge and power to you, and expects you to take on the responsibility of orchestrating the petty domain that he left behind so young.
> Let it wait for a dozen seasons or so, training your physique and combative skills for two or three years and then gradually uncovering more and more power culminating in a ‘dream’ of your father’s presence might go over better.
> Be honest for once and explain the truth, it’s almost certainly going to cause enormous discontent in your subordinates but your occult sorceries are nigh-undiminished, and slaying anyone who dares protest should be trivial.

You anons didn’t forget about the zircon rod, explicitly stated to shield its bearer’s soul against the unholy, did you? That and the abysmal roll on my part are the reasons we’re still running this quest. You were extremely lucky this time, if you value your immortal soul, try not to get yourself into these situations in the future.

Being too quick to reveal ourselves could cause our wife/mother (it's complicated) to commit suicide. Waiting more than a few years would probably have the Shaman dying of old age. A gradual reveal seems good. We should also look to replacements for him.
Also, didn't forget about the rod, but for some reason I thought we didn't bring it. Good thing we did though. It's pretty crazy how all of this happened by pure chance.

I think having golems is the way to go. We've already got a lot of the work figured out and it's a good way to incidentally pick up other useful disciplines. More importantly, golems are as loyal as it gets. I value having our core military power being strong, loyal, elites rather than, say, snapjaws. That isn't to say we shouldn't take advantage of our physical prowess. Just that it's marginally less important to me.
>>
>>3691428
I don't know. I was for coexisting with him till we could make a body for ourself. That way we could transfer to a more powerful body and still have our son as a powerful general. Shits on fire.

>have problems during puberty
that was due to his personality. Bet he was going to be a REAL lady-killer.

>>3691387
I vote both, because I kind of want to wage a war against hell once we get more powerful.

TALKING ABOUT HELL, Shit, bros, we need to fucking study that wand once we're alone or at night. We NEED to understand how it protected us and figure out a way to mimic the same. We just had our asses handed to us, dice being the way they are, but still. We really have no clue what's out there and if we run into another sorcerer who had studied decades longer than us then we'd better just sign our will right now. Protection is very important.

I vote we should lay low and try to increase our abilities in secrecy at least until we mature in body. We can become head of the house and all that later, right now we just got a free ticket of 20+ more years in our pocket so let's increase our personal power as much as possible. Convince mother dearest to instruct us a little on what our ""father"" did and then just slowly show her our true power as we "grow". This is perfect, let's not fudge this up by rushing shit.
>>
>>3691468
>that was due to his personality. Bet he was going to be a REAL lady-killer.
Goddamn, he died too soon. Also, should we or shouldn’t we try to get a familiar when we come of age? I’m leaning toward it for the benefits involved but fucking with the abyss or hell or whatever the fuck feels like a horrible decision.

>>

>>

>>3691472
kek, yeah, but neither does continuing to try to summon the bastards, right?

Oh i also think we might need to try picking up shadow discipline since we're going battlemage route. >>3691398 oh and i doubt that a stronger body has been locked out from us. We were going to enhance Asura's body anyways, might as well still do it since we are now Asura. This is great. I think Shadow discipline might actually lead to some fun stuff later since we're now an 20/20 ubermensch.

>>3691482
this exactly, lots and lots of time. We've also managed to keep pretty much all of our abilities, save for half of the shadow stuff. We'll be able to finish golem tech probably before we've matured.

>>3691492
naaah nah nah nah. We've never relied on anyone else but ourselves. I don't trust finicky demon sluts so i'd rather keep distance. At least until we are pretty much guaranteed a solid win. PERHAPS in the coming decade when the stars align once more, we could try our hand at a familiar BUT, we must learn everything and understand everything about said familiar. Prepare a contract beforehand and such. No more half-assedly running into shit like a mindless snap-jaw. We need to, above all else, become cautious.

It's not like we've taken many risks so far, but I would appreciate it if we don't run into this problem again. God save us if we run into a legendary failure again.

inb4 OPs angels are the eldritch kind or something to fuck us over more.
>>
>>3691516
His demons have been eldritch as fuck, and I’m thinking the angels won’t be any different. Are we willing to commit to purity? Wouldn’t that betray the point?
>>
>>3691499
>Angel
I have an extremely hard time believing an angel, even a fallen one, would work with a guy who literally ate the soul of his kid (without even feeling remorse!) Maybe in the past it was possible, but I highly doubt we'd get anything useful. Let's stick to regular arcana
>>
>>3691518
>Let's stick to regular arcana
yup
>>
>>3691518
That reminds me, how are we going to be overthrowing the heavens if we can barely handle one serious demon? Even if we max our stats, I don’t think it’ll be enough. We need something to improve ourselves and I’m thinking blood is a good route for that.
>>
>>3691533
TBF it was an archdemon or at least had the help of one.

>>3691331
>the arch-demon’s next words
>>
>>3691542
Arch-demon, arch-angel, what’s the difference? They’ll rape our puny mortal soul unless we become something inhuman. Lichdom is defeatist faggotry but maxing blood and mind and improving both is a good idea
>>
>>3691513
why even get a familiar at that point then? Unless we hit a wall, I wouldn't see the point to it.

>>3691533
blood, hex, & runecraft seems to be the best option for self-improvement. I'm thinking there might be another discipline later down the line that would be like a multiplier for our magical ability.

>>3691542
Griffith. Guess we'll just have to be "reborn" later. That would most likely be an artificial womb/cocoon which we are able to incubate our body in. This theoretical womb would rebuild and reform the body to become immortal. Something like this could be a research topic once we get further into our studies.
>>
>>3691549
Lichdom is gay, but if we do go that route we should find a way to make an artificial shell for our soul, even if it has to be powered by the life of others. >>3690806 a lich body built out of adamantium, or whatever super-metal this world has, is a lot tougher than one of flesh.

>>3690798
>You can’t possess a golem, they don’t have the infrastructure to support a natural human soul.
I think OP gave us a clue on how Golems are made.

It might be all about how the strands connect the Golem and us. I'm not even sure we would need a sacrifice for golemcraft. It might literally be mana being set on a info loop over and over.

>>3691568
I'm saying we need to be born from a "non-mortal womb". That will be the first true step into god-hood. The runes, hexes, and other materials would already be within the body. Interwoven into the very sinew and muscle fiber which the body will be born from. Asura will be the God and his name will live on through our future deeds. His ultimate sacrifice will not go wasted.

let's get a major F in chat for our boy Asura!
>>
>>3691577
Yes. One of the best ideas the thread has had all day. He saved our family from mass suicide and kept the snaps in order. He's proved his loyalty and use.

>>3691584
For now we can transfer him into the bodies of selected dissenters until we create Snap-Jaw 2.0 bodies.
We should also look into creating Snap-Jaw 2.0 bodies. Or at least one good body for him.
>>3691585
>I imagine the promise of immortality will keep him quiet.
He should venerate us so much he'd anyway because we command it.
>>
>>3691588
We’re in a kid’s body too and it’s not game over

>>3691589
Our daughter doesn’t deserve shit she’s retarded. Giving our best minion another 40-50 years of service is a good call.
>>
>>3691583
If we place him in our daughter he'll lose his influence amongst his people. We should place him in the body of a newborn snap-jaw of the high caste and declare him the shaman reincarnate.

I imagine we should also have the time to work on that whole blood-line curse thing to "uplift" them. We can turn it into a whole public ceremony as a coming of age thing for ourself.
>>
>>3691577
>>3691568
I think this Is probably for the best. We'll make our shaman effectively Immortal by shoving him Into other snap-jaws worthy of being his host, and we ourselves have much more time now to study and conquer before growing old.

The only problem here Is Aafira. Since I think this event fairly solidly shoved any semblance of attempting to have morals right off the table, let me go ahead and present the bastard option.

(Mind) Let's focus on upping (Mind) and once It's much more potent let's just make her emotional turmoil and lack of understanding a non-issue. What I'm saying Is we mind-rape our wife. We reach Into her mind and deeply carve In one simple alteration and nothing more.

We make her okay with the entire situation. Her knowing Asura Is us, the fact that her son Is effectively dead and that we're a horrible man. We wipe all of those petty emotional turmoil's away and just leave our happy, healthy wife who continues to go about her business with this new knowlege, completely unaware that she shouldn't be so strangely content with the situation.
>>
>>3691593
Its not game over, but he will lose his use as leader of snapjaws for a times until he grows more.
>>
>>3691518
>>3691517
oh fuck, I forgot to mention. Gods create their own angels. We can quite literally make our own much later down the line. Perhaps... golem craft has its use in that area?

>>3691580
>>3691583 uh, no.
>>3691584
>>3691589
Also, guys, Shaman literally helped us in the eugenics program too. I think this thing shouldn't go to waste either. ANUBIS SOON. We should definitely put him into another body. I'm not even sure we know exactly how to separate the soul and body since we were more or less forced out of out own.

I'm all for Anubis work. I'm 100% for Golem-Craft finalization -> Anubis work -> sellf-improvement. We really shouldn't stray too far from that, at least not until we're, well when Asura is, 15+ years old. Cuts out demonology & probably exploration for a while, though. These plans should be in our backpocket for now, something to lie in hiding while we study martial in the day.
>>
>>3691596
Ooh, that’s a solid idea but we’ll need at least a 10 in Mind to consider it. I’d prefer to work on Runecraft.

>>3691599

>>
>>3691604
>>3691600
We should work on mind first since the Shaman probably only has a few years left.

So Mind10/soul hop >Golem-Craft finalization -> Anubis work -> sellf-improvement
>>
>>3691604
Think about it, 6 in Runecraft gives us two research slots at no penalty, so 10 probably gives us three. That’s a huge advantage that’ll pay itself off crazy fast.
>>
>>3691611
Good point. I’m thinking we’ll practice mind in secret while we’re improving our combat skills.

>>3691613
How did I miss that Rune-6 was what gave us that? In any case all signs point to rushing the hell out of MIND now.

>>3691600

Actually fuck, I think I might have found one slight disadvantage from this situation. The tribesmen. They were loyal to our 'father', and while they'll no doubt be willing to show kindness to Aafira and her children they aren't exactly In debt to Asura. Shit. Well, we can probably just conquer them or manipulate them If we really even need them.
>>
>>3691618
Are you sure not taking charge and laying low Is a good idea right now? Aafira might try to move back to her tribe, managing the minions especially the non-snapjaws will be an Issue.

We can still train while taking charge and this way we won't lose minions and such.
>>
>>3691627
That depends on whether or not Aafira can take charge. I mean, she did behead the fucking demon, damn

>>3691633
I think it’s best to let it play out, remember, she’s technically not a part of the Sky-Crawlers tribe anymore.
>>
>>3691633
She's basically completely disowned by her tribe. She can't go back. She's basically a tribe of 4 now, her and our kids. That's why she nearly killed them all.

>>3691638
These desert nomads are metal.

I'm thinking if we're working in an 10-11 year timeframe, we should be able to improve ourselves leaps and bounds. I think we should put together a solid plan on how we're to spend our newfound adolescence.

>>3691359
>>3691367
>>3691380
>>3691384
>>3691401
>>3691468
First and foremost, I think we should work off with the assumption we'll be keeping low for several seasons. I personally think this is the best option, given the instability our mother/wife or whatever is going through. During this time, it gives us an opportunity to learn some martial skills and establish ourselves a bit more as the genius son of the magnificent God-King. Because that's what I think will eventually happen. Out-right saying it is different but having us be "taught" it by our mother and learn from these slaves, it should give us plenty of time to work things out.

First on the plate. Things we can do alone. These will most likely be disciplines which we can keep ourselves quiet and away from the curious eyes of our mother and slaves. I think the very FIRST option should be dedicate ourselves to regaining our shadow Discipline rank. Increase that slightly so moving around the palace will be easier and so we'll have more time alone. Other than Shadow, I put forward Mind & runecraft along with other disciplines which do not need extra items along with us.

Secondly, complex items such as golem-craft and the moving of souls. This will most likely have to wait after we reveal our abilities. I'm thinking give it a year or two while we slowly increase our abilities while hidden. Though, I imagine we would already have talked with the shaman, we should probably have him be the first of our experiments like >>3691611 said. He's getting old. Golem craft can, probably, be done still within this two-year time period, but I don't think we should start before we gain some points in shadow. (( kinda ironic that we lost it before we actually needed it ))

>>3691633
>>3691627
while they're not in debt to us, they will not raid the only daughter of the cheif's own house. Besides, how would they know? I also doubt she will run off into the arms of her father due to the tribal laws of her being technically a new tribe. We just have to convince her that studying sorcery is far more important than returning to some dusty cave to beg and scrape for meager earnings of a mere tribe.

+Crushes armor.
+Causes internal bleeding which is very fatal with this level medicine.
+Useful against the undead, and those bugs.
+Yeet fools.
-/+ Bad against fleshy/boneless enemies like the slug, magic should make up for.
>>
>>3691650
I feel like we should honor Asura's martial prowess and get ourselves a mace/cudgel. If we get good enough materials we can make an unbreakable mace that doubles as a magic rod.

So we will keep the name Asura then? I think It's fitting, we were not bestowed our own name you see, yet we bestowed this name upon this body. Bit of a downside here as we want to have a hand free for casting.

We're going to be larger than a normal person, so any weapon we use will have additional reach anyway. Plus glaives aren't really built with throwing in mind and would require very careful balancing.

It is at times like this I remember why I can't leave anons alone for longer than 3 minutes (I've been busy preparing for a holiday) without something inevitably ending in god damn agonising terrible results. Who in gods almighty name thought that doing demonology again was EVER going to work to our benefit? We should've dedicated at least a year's study to our books on the subject and just preparing our mind / body for this shit going wrong: we had a book that was able to teach us to resist these sorts of attacks against the mind / soul, we had enough examples of demonic summoning material that we might have been able to level up our demonology and reduce the risks and most importantly of all, we had so many other magical fields we could have benefited from researching first.

> Be honest for once and explain the truth, it’s almost certainly going to cause enormous discontent in your subordinates but your occult sorceries are nigh-undiminished, and slaying anyone who dares protest should be trivial.

Reveal the truth, in it's entirety. We almost died and without much thought for the consequences shifted our soul into our son's body, resulting in his soul being destroyed. Maybe make some smaller lies to try and make it more palatable, maybe say that the demon shoved our soul into our sons just to fuck with us but don't lie about who we are or who's body we know occupy.

What's interesting about that is even if it comes from a brutal child's perspective we can claim our mother avenged our father. She slew what killed him, and that's the kind of development their tribe may more readily acknowledge.
The implications of being able to kill what murdered such a powerful village-saving sorcerer only after having lived with him and learned some magic. Essentially, even if she never uses big magic the truth alone is stronger to cement her as a ruling piece for the tribe to remain allied with.
I imagine there's some fear, too. Perhaps she'll be targeted by adversaries. Well, that's an oil slick river for a bridge of bitumite-iron later.

> 20 VS DC: 8
> Supreme Success

You deduce that it would be unwise to reveal the truth of your newfound form so soon, and wager that unveiling the sorceries you wield as a sudden blessing is far too risky a gamble to make. No, you’ll keep your head down and for the time present, take on the name Asura, both for the sake of your late son’s memory and the preservation of your own stolen life. The next day, you are awakened in a different bedchamber by a shouting nomad, who pulls the blanket out from over you and yells insults to inspire your anger and force you to rise from your bed. Over the course of the next twelve hours, you undergo a brutal training regimen that leaves every part of you sore, and more than that, you are expected to wield a small, if weighty cudgel to defend yourself from the random poking and prodding of a veiled once-raider with a long-hafted and soon much-hated stave.

Though you may be covered in bruises by the end of the day, the warriors who sought to humble you did not walk away unscathed, and you’ve begun learning the mysteries of the plain and simple club faster than any intricate and occult sorceries. Agonizing days turn to grueling weeks turn to brutal, eternal months but your will remains unbroken, and though they torment and mock you for your sudden lack of skill, your improvement shows each and every day until you have begun to reach, if not surpass their prowess, at four summers old and in the span of a single season! Each of the combatant slaves tasked with training you in the body of your son is impressed, and you hear them whisper that you must’ve been born beneath some triumphant stars indeed.

> Cudgel (0) advances to Cudgel (1)
> Cudgel (1) advances to Cudgel (2)
> Cudgel (2) advances to Cudgel (3)
> Cudgel (3) advances to Cudgel (4)
> Cudgel (4) advances to Cudgel (5)

Personally, you’re both pleased and pleasantly amused to find you have a talent for martial combat that went unappreciated in your previous form. Sure, you scrabbled here and there with other guttersons back in the day, but then you struggled to fight them, but now that your technique is paired with sheer prowess, you are shaping up to be a most fearsome foe indeed. You are expected to consume a regular diet of goat’s flesh, and after two are butchered and some time goes by you’re beginning to see the reason why. The growth of your body is almost tangible, and your strength improves in leaps and bounds.

Soon, you’ll be among the mightiest of men in mind and body alike. The thought almost makes you wish to force the largest snap-jaw you can find to heel, to prove the insurmountable power your raw physicality holds, and an understanding of why your late son used to have such a fixation with strangling these vermin comes all-too quickly. Unfortunately, you aren’t able to practice any sorcery whatsoever, but so many years of diligent and unceasing study has seen the knowledge nigh-seared into your soul, and you would need to slumber for a decade or more to forget what you’ve once awakened. Surely, you won’t have to wait so long.

Either way, the nomads expect you to continue your training at the pace you’ve set, but they feel that there’s little reason for you to resume your work with the cudgel so soon, when yet more and varied disciplines of war await. For whatever reason, likely a better pool amongst themselves, they decide to allow you the choice of what you wish to study.

> You consider long and heartily, before settling on-

> Dodging- To properly evade the blows of your foes instead of letting them crash against your mountainous musculature.
> Archery- To slay your foes at an impressive distance, long before beginning to engage them in vainglorious melee.
> Riding- To reach those would oppose you with the utmost swiftness and wrath, before their own arrows pierce your hide.
> Spears- To put your foes into an early grave before they come upon you, taking the utmost advantage of your reach.

Riding ain't useful, we can carpet around far faster and far further. Archery struggles to match a properly prepared wind bullet or fire ball. A spear, although useful, is just another way to fight when our skill with a cudgel will suffice if it should ever be needed. Which leaves dodging, being able to not get chopped in half just a little longer so we can cast another spell or use our strength again.

Also the change to the status pastebin is interesting...by the time we are 18 once more we will be a unstoppable god amongst men.

It's a better match for us, this way we get to keep our natural cudgel proficieny, we get a skill that applies to both magic and melee battle.

We can learn them later, my focus is on languages, universally useful skills, information and preparing ourselves to resume leadership.

For example, I'd like if we could learn some degree of astrology: the study of stars is important considering we know that their alignment can play into rituals and summoning; understanding background details such as that would make other things much easier.

I'd also like for us to look into learning dancing and all that sort of social shit just in case we ever need to act as a part of high society. Once we've got that sort of shit we can look into mastering every weapon in the world, although I agree we should look into getting to level (3)-(4) in most. I'll be honest that I think cudgels and spears are probably all we need, maybe daggers and long-axes.

>>3691996
It's logical. We only have 2 hands, therefore if we want to use a magic wand or staff, we're going to be limited in size and type of weapon we can use unless we make that into our weapon. Given what we know, the logical result is our magic staff or wand would be similar to a staff, spear, axe or cudgel. It wouldn't work particularly well as some of these depending on the limitations OP places on them but we can almost certainly make a pointy magic stick or a sharp magic stick or a heavy magic stick.

>Learning the languages our father studied and diverting interests into astrology does sound like a believable transition concerning our imminent rulership.
True. Plus it would be nice to finish reading the ever loving shit out of all of our books so we can really jump back into sorcery with as much knowledge as we can. That and we should really continue to explore and clear this palace to get more scraps of demonology material so we can reduce the associated risks and prepare some defences.

I'd also say that in another 4-6 years, once we're a absolute unit, we should start doing a bunch of raids on nearby tribes with our wife's tribe. Gathering up treasure, slaves and fame.

>Although things like dancing are highly culture centric, we'd need to find the people we'd be learning from first. We haven't encountered any nearby great kingdoms with the associated noble caste to learn their rituals from. I am assuming our homeland is a fair bit away from us.
True. Although I'd preface that with the fact that there is some degree of universality to dance, the physical coordination and timing of movement to music for example.

After some carefully considered thought, you come to the conclusion that learning to dodge blows is a natural progression of your training and explain your desire to the combatant slave that asked you to begin with. He nods with a faint smirk as several of his fellows glower and curse, and on the next day you resume your grueling regimen with one notable change: This time, you don’t have a cudgel to defend yourself and must learn quickly if you wish to sleep without a dozen aching pains and heavy bruises.

Dodging is the rare martial discipline where your tremendous size and weight hinder more than they help but your talent remains, and you persist undeterred. Your progression is nothing particularly impressive, though the nomads repeatedly remark it is stunning to see one so young so driven to master the art of making war, and you swiftly gain a measure of skill common to those twice your age. Though you are injured and infuriated by an unseen swing, time and time again, each night you lay your head to rest with a whit less damage than before, and eventually you hope to sleep untouched.

Heedless of the difficulties involved, you throw yourself into the fray again and again, and rather than succumb to the agonies they inflict each day, you use them to feed your rage. Ignoring the superficial slashes and discolored skin of yesterday you continue your training, and in time come to dodge the gouging staves more often than not. Just when you’ve started to get cocky and let them know as much in toddler-speak, the one swinging the staff reveals that they’ve been going easy on you all this time.

Try as you might, you are unable to make a noticeable improvement in the art of dodging incoming blows, and the bitterly mocking words of the combatant slaves only serves to strengthen your resolve for the future. In between the almost-brutal but undeniably painful beatings at the hands of grown men you find that your mother wife? is most pleased with herself, and has begun to spend a vast amount of time examining the golems and cross-referencing the notes you recorded in your past life. Past life… Does this count as a form of reincarnation? Do you really care one way or another?

The Spring is gone, the Summer of Year 10 comes, and with it, the neverending expectation of martial improvement.

Bored, barely related tangent but by contrast with IRL a mace requires more "delicacy" than a sword. It's actually really funny that people think swords and spears are graceful weapons. "Graceful" swordplay is unusual or even aberrant for most of history. Spear/shield Sword/shield or just one weapon became more common because they required less training and are faster to adjust to. Compare the weight of swinging around something you must predict for to something that gives inherent reach advantage and its greater space management or the equivalent to a sub 12 pound extension of your limb that's faster than either by default.

Seeing a big guy with a mace and thinking they're less graceful or slow is a well observed historical mistake. Sword & sorcery rules take precedent ofc. Swords irl are easy in comparison to proper macework, which even modern students of martial disciplines acknowledge. That ease is one of the bigger reasons they became so popular. Heft, while beneficial, takes for more balance within the body when against any similarly skilled opponent.

The simple way to put it is the more you increase the weight and imbalance of your weapon the more grace/prediction/skill you require relative to your strength in your body for actually using it.

This. It's the same with great-axes IRL: with a two handed axe you can't use a shield for defence so you've got to stay constantly on the attack; winding the weapon up for shots takes a lot of energy so flowing motions that preserve as much energy as possible are key; meaning that a properly trained axeman is constantly and carefully regulating how their attack lands so that their next one comes in fast enough to prevent their foe from counter-striking and killing them.

This is part of the reason why great axes make excellent weapons for champions who can train constantly but are shit for almost anyone else since the physical requirements to wielding them are high.

I mean even in Chinese writing, the people that wield guandaos and the like are generally boisterous soldier-barbarians rather than scholarly gentlemen-commanders or the various other stereotypes they have.

Meanwhile in the west? The mace is a fairly uncommon weapon in fiction and axes as a general rule are given the Viking expie who will almost invariably be shit. The only possible exceptions are shit like Varangian guard lookalikes or woodsmen.

The beatings simply don’t stop, no matter how much you scream, kick your feet, and lash out at innocent snap-jaws like the overgrown infant you physically are. Each day the nomads gouge you, going on about how your earlier improvement must’ve been a fluke and how they were wrong to assume you’d ever be anything more than a lumbering brute. These vicious and cunningly calculated insults cut straight to your core, and you take to training with a renewed tenacity, not even noticing the grim, sleepless look on your mother’s eyes, or the amount of time she spends with the long-rotten corpses of the slaughtered snap-jaw multitudes. You are blind to all, save the prevention of your future slaughter, and can’t help but feel some spite toward your sister-daughters for their immaturity and the fact that they’ve consequently been spared the furious gauntlet of snapping staves and sharpened tongues.

It's not that surprising a trend: your talking about deeply rooted cultural ideas of a distant age of combat and supposed heroism. What is surprising is that we've seen so little attempt to outright subvert it. Although that could be put down to the fact that fantasy is generally a hit-or-miss niche for films and that books / games don't have the same effect on our culture.

>>3692141
See you say that but there are exceptions: the battle of Stanford bridge saw one skilled fighter slay 40 men before he was finally defeated by a supposed attack from below made by a spearman in a boat.
>>
>>3692153
Ah, but it was a spearman after all!
There are tons of exceptions, notably reliant on strategic advantages combined with skill. China's warring states and calvary thrown into cavalry being extremely notable. Spartans weren't stupid enough to fight against a number advantage in any terrain that allowed that advantage to flourish. Horse archers shouldn't be able to do too much against strong phalanxes, but if they harry the forces for weeks on end and stay out of their reach that army becomes doomed because of supply lines and inability to recovery.

Skill is an interesting thing when it comes to major warfare, it requires the leader recognize the skill and then strategically apply it. If they can't do the latter, while the enemy can, that skill advantage hits some heavy diminishing returns. This is where the history of warfare remains interesting, and small form tactics develop with grand strategy. Napoleon's a great study for this.

Angered by the endless and demeaning insults leveled your way almost more than the staves themselves, you cease your focus on preventing your own suffering, and swear to improve by the end of the season, if only to spite these meddlesome fools. It seems malice is the motivator you’ve been looking for because by the time you’ve finished the fall, dodging becomes easier each day that goes by, and evading even two staves at the same time is nowhere near the impossibility it once was. So pleased with your newfound skill you are, you fall to catch sight of the gaunt pallor over your mother’s face, or the lack of time she spends prostrate in the temple to the false gods of her people.

To be fair, that mostly has to do with needing the reach to attack from beneath the bridge. A bowmen would have worked just as well if given time.

True, plus there's always the example of tiny specialist units in WW 2 doing far more damage than they had any right to because of the concentration of skilled and dedicated experts. From ultra-modified bombing units to elite tank units, properly concentrated forces is often far better than sheer numbers.

>Skill is an interesting thing when it comes to major warfare, it requires the leader recognize the skill and then strategically apply it. To be fair, Napoleon is also a great study for how to do it wrong: him holding back his elite troops at waterloo is commonly held as a partial point for his eventual defeat since his elites were held back until their superior drill and discipline was no longer enough to equal the situation they were pressed into.

Ye, that's why I said Napoleon. He managed to prove the "old" lessons of warfare still applied both ways, and made the mistakes that kept them true. He shows the overwhelming force of unskilled soldiery to great effect, and the exact same for when he doesn't respect that force.

The world wars taught us that as technology develops and avenues of attack increase so must specializations become required to truly utilize those advantages. Engineer teams, far stricter divisions between jobs than the earlier century, communication corps, the list goes on as complexity increases. The fundamental being that the more options available the better the idea of specialized forces become, and it remains the same principle.

Division of sea, air, land, sea-land, and the roundabout of special task units, it's all skill as applied to benefits of long term strategy and condensement by necessity. We can only expect an individual to be so skilled, so it makes sense to condense that effort in a wider scope of skill focus and distribution. This is the same principle as massing a spear line against more skilled opponents, that distributed reach is more advantageous than the skill of opponents who are missing that advantage. So it is with machine guns and guerilla warfare, so it is with occupancy with infantry and breakthrough/siege with tanks. It's a cliche adage, but warfare concepts don't change too much even in spite of adding far, far more complex variables.

> 6 VS DC: 10
> Moderate Failure

Spite alone fuels you in the coming days, though as countless agonizing aches and persistent pains indicate, rage is far from enough to make a warrior. What little advancement you make is trod underfoot by the callous desert dwellers who could not care less for the suffering of a self-slain sorcerer’s princeling, and indeed, savor it. You hate them more than words can express, and the loathing filling your soul might bring even the fiendish, ten-thousand times ten-thousand times damned Uz’Gol to pause. Immersed in training, you are unaware that in the depths of the palace, the unthinkable occurred and was swiftly undone.

The Spring has passed and the Summer of Year 11 is soon to be here. The older slave-children are beginning to grow older, and may soon join you in your training. Soon, you might even have a couple of playmates… Bwahahahaha.

Yeah, I respect him as the absolute madlad he was. Even considering how much destruction he caused and the fact he was the main enemy of my nation for more or less his entire life. I mean some of his early battles are pretty much just him making flawless move after flawless move (mostly because his enemies were bumbling idiots but still) and the fact he inspired such respect and loyalty in the French.

It doesn't make sense to let a child not even 10 to wander/explore the lands.
And do you think our mother/wife is just doing dick all? If she keeps going at pace an event will surely happen. if she keeps this up she will likely unlock some kind of event. Good or bad depending on how she does.
Best believe if she dies, I doubt the shaman is willing to let go of the reins nearly as easily and let us stay in charge so we train my friend.

> Minor Success

Sooner rather than later, you begin to predict the combatant slaves’ motions before they are made, and stepping and swaying from the path of their bloodied staves gets if not much easier, much less difficult than before. Given a moment’s respite from the endless storm of violence, the desert dwellers tell you they’re most proud of the progress you’ve made, and feel that you’ve earned another chance to determine which martial discipline you wish to pursue. A break in the monotony could prove most welcome, but there’s nothing to be said for seeing the brief look of amazement crossing an elder’s harsh eyes.

> Dodging (3) advances to Dodging (4)

> Which discipline do you want to begin training?

> Cudgels: To finally wipe the smirks off of these nomad’s smug, stupid faces.
> Dodging: To prove that your stubborn persistence is beyond any lesser man’s.
> Archery: To relax for a year or two trying to strike the center of distant targets.
> Riding: To understand what it is about camels that nomads seem to hate so much.
> Spears: To reconnect with your primal, long-forgotten gutterson’s urge to stab.

Interestingly enough, the slave children have started to reach maturity and the two males have been thrown into the training alongside you.

> Contemplating, you choose to respond to them with-

The desert dwellers are pleasantly surprised by your desire to continue the brutal pastime of over a dozen months, and comply to your wish with the utmost relish, much to the regret of your conscious and subconscious both. You deign to treat the two newcomers not how you wish you were treated, but how you’re no-doubt unexpected yet much hoped to, with a thin veneer of friendliness your previous body’s childhood self never received. To your surprise, as the three of you are beaten and bludgeoned to no end, that veneer begins to become somewhat genuine and they return the favor in full, griping, mumbling, and joking about the state of things behind closed doors. By the end of the season you’ve begun to appreciate their company and realize that suffering stings just a bit less when it’s done together.

> Dodging (4) advances to Dodging (5)

You are showing almost unprecedented improvement, being at where many struggle to reach at the age of ten summers in merely six, but you know that you are far, far from complete and despite the starry eyes of your companions you do not celebrate in the slightest. The struggle is all-consuming and takes everything you are to keep going, but curiosity leads you meet your mother wife… in private and confide in her that you miss your daddy. She weeps, telling you how much your piercing, calculating gaze reminds her of your father, and reassures you that he’s only gone for a little while and she’s doing her best to bring daddy back. Externally, you make a convincing impression of childish confusion but internally, you are reeling with the implications of what she’s said.

It still feels nice to be hugged.

The Fall has passed, and the Winter of Year 11 has almost arrived.

> Moderate Success

Forcing the terror for your wife’s/mother’s? immortal soul to the back of your mind, you focus on dodging the staves swung to shatter your nose and powder your bones, and do so exceedingly well. The skill with which you dodge incoming attacks has begun to reach a truly combative standard and the desert dwellers are in awe that someone barely past their navel can dodge their blows so well. Not content to see you stagnate, they replace the predictable-at-this-point thrusts and swings with flurries of rapid strikes that you struggle to properly perceive, let alone defend against, and the bruises that you’d almost begun to forget become your nightly companion once again.

> Dodging (5) advances to Dodging (6)

None of this matters to you though, so much as the mind-numbing dread of what that increasingly insane, suddenly not-so-incompotent woman plans to do. It’s clear that if something doesn’t change she’s going to make an attempt to resurrect your still-living soul that’s doomed to fail, or worse, succeed in a way that the darkest of imaginations could struggle to anticipate. You’ll need to do something soon… Or would it be better to let her continue on her fool’s errand and accumulate an abundance of notes for when you’ve come of age?

> What do you want to do?

> Nothing, you’ll keep training with the combatant slaves, allow her to continue her work, and hope that she doesn’t resort to desperate measures.
> Ask your ‘mommy’ if she can begin educating you in the ways of civilized people like your ‘daddy’ because you want to be the best of both the nomad and southlanders.
> Reveal that your ‘daddy’ left behind some of his knowledge and wisdom when he left, and ask your ‘mommy’ if she can help teach you what he knew.

Option 1 is fucking impossible anyway. There's no way we can let this go.
A combination of option 2 and 3 is a good go between to be honest; tell her that we have been dreaming of our father and that he is slowly drip feeding us wisdom but we must become more like him to truly understand it and we need additional education.

Or, we go option 4 and come clean. There is one thing I'd note about this though; it's probably better to wait longer and let her get truly obsessed and stew over bringing us back as she has already begun to abandon her old society's norms which is ideal for us.

Wait, OP. Can we make a scarf? If we tell her we're Asura, we should make a scarf first.

also OP, we’re not a true psychopath, are we? Our emotionally driven prostration before the chieftan suggests that we do hold some capacity for empathy, albeit one limited by our upbringing and almost obsessive pride. I’d call us a sociopath at best, capable of some limited empathy towards those closest to ourselves, and some remorse ragarding them. This only makes us worse of course, as we dont even have the excuse of innate mental conditions to shield us from responsibility for our vile deeds
>>
>>3692747
It's more so that our emotional development and shit was stunted by our childhood and everything we've ever experienced that even though we in theory have the capacity to be a regular human, it is buried under years of emotional scaring, repressed memories and self-built walls.

I mean we spent literally the first 18 years of our life living in some of the worst possible conditions for a human and then because of that decided to leave civilisation behind to study and become strong enough to burn it all down.

We are entirely capable of loving or liking people, of feeling happy or sad but we are hardly normal in our range of emotion nor what we express it over.

So what if she’s delving into forbidden sorcery? Under the civilized law, all sorcery is forbidden and for good reason! To see the woman you married and who yet carried you in her womb so driven, you are reminded of your old self, and feel there’s no reason to render that resolve left aimless and afraid again. Instead, you focus on dodging the staves...

Azikial isn’t a true psychopath, but his sense of guilt was burned away long ago, and any semblance of empathy he can muster almost entirely revolves around how a given person relates to him and his own desires. When the demon said his soul was pure, it meant that he was untainted, not that he was righteous in the slightest. His ego is incomprehensibly, unflinchingly, all-consumingly hell-bent on subjugating all else for the sake of appeasing it. Ouch, you’ve been dealt a ruinous scar that isn’t likely to heal properly. In time, Asura’s face would’ve been regal and handsome, but now it’s going to be mutilated as if struck by an axe. You’ve also murdered the trainer responsible, but to you that’s a secondary concern. Persuading anyone civilized or gaining their trust is going to be much more difficult, but some might respect such a wound and intimidating those who don’t will be easier.

It kind of looked like it was going that way as well before retard-anon from last thread decided that family gay n shieet and the story shifted tracks entirely. The other posters, for all their arguing otherwise, seems to still have begun to vote for more and more evil options.

> 1 VS DC: 14
> Catastrophic Failure

Ignoring the creeping dread at the back of your mind, you continue training in the art of evasion, showing surprising success for some two weeks before you stumble directly into a trainer’s thrust stave, snapping it in half, and take the full brunt of the nomad’s weight behind the sharpened staff to the left cheekbone. One side of your face is rent open and you are extremely fortunate that neither your jaw nor your eye were mutilated, though in the moment your face is maimed sanity flees you. Rage is all you know, it is all you are, and by the time the remaining trainer manages to pull you from his counterpart, the poor man’s skull has been shattered in your hands.

Fearful of your fell fury, the remaining nomad flees your presence to fetch the one person that might be able to calm you- Aafira. She finds you laying into the unlucky man’s devastated carcass with the remains of the staff, spitting blood and howling like any animal. When she grabs your shoulder, you shatter the stout wood on what remains of the forehead, and collapse, screaming as much in frustration that you couldn’t control yourself as to drown out the pain, but she cradles you in that sandy courtyard and little by little, the anger threatening to lash out at everyone and everything fades away. In its place is quiet shame, seething pain, and the gentle touch of a woman you don’t deserve.

> Trait Gained!
> Ruinous Scar on the Left Cheek

Your wound is stitched shut and treated with the anti-infectant balms of her people as best as she’s able, and a simple funeral for the former warrior is held. His carcass is thrown over the wall for the flesh to be eaten and bones to be scattered as befitting their culture, and you are permitted to spend the rest of the season recovering, lest you reopen the injury. Your mother-wife is concerned for you, the remaining trainer and your fellow trainees are wary of your strength, the rest of the slaves are terrified, and the snap-jaws are indifferent, because they’ve known about your anger for quite some time.

The Spring is gone, and after such an inwardly terrible and outwardly terrifying experience you can’t wait for the Summer of Year 11 to come.

Telling mother/wife that we have some mysterious gift is fucking retarded. We can just study under her for a while before telling her that we wish to learn other disciplines in which we pretend to “improve”. >>3693090
>>3693099
Nah, this is important. We're very vulnerable for now and the necessity for rolling repeatedly gives the chance for crits to happen and fuck us up.

It shows us the reason why most children don't train for war from the age of 4. Otherwise: >>3693093

Can we get another round of Fs in chat for our boy Asura?

Also, I guess the people wanting to sacrifice our children for the greater good eventually got what they wanted? Heh... well in any case, what’s done is done. We are Asura! The mighty son of a Sorceror King of no land nor title. His mother, a stolen away chieftan’s daughter and heir to the sorcerer’s library and treasuries. This is but the beginning of a mighty legend of the Great God-King Asura.

Honestly, this is some top tier background story for the to-be-ascended God-King. Father “died” of hubris in magical arts, his witch-mother(wife) raised him under the guidance of his fathers will wrought in ink as well as her desert tribe’s harshness. Out of the great looming deserts rises a barbarian king that’s far stronger than any cudgle-bearing giant and far smarter than any king and his retinue of advisors put together. Asura was born to be king, his name, not ours, will live in legend. It’s a strange and tragic tale.

Also, hey, everyone, yo. Look, I doubt mother dearest would ever realize that we killed our son and stole his body. She wasn’t powerful enough to even understand what the form of a soul should be, much less see differences in them. Unless she either selves into our mind, which would most likely be us unconscious or completely willing to let happen, and discover our betrayal that way OR she talks with some demons or some other worldly being tells her what we are. I don’t see any of those things likely to come to pass.
>>
>>3693248
>Sacrifice children for the greater good
I'm not sure why you ever thought we would be doing anything for the greater good.

On the other hand, our utter lack of remorse for the action we took leads me to believe that the DC for summoning a Yubrik was probably pretty low for us in the first place...and likely has only gotten lower after this chain of events.

On your latter points, she has found renewed focus and luck after our death and exceeded us in Runecraft already. Further she has discovered the discipline of the Soul on her own, which is an avenue for identifying us (though, come to think of it perhaps this isn't as likely as I thought...as she never saw Asura's soul before we tore it asunder). On the other note of summoning demons, I suspect that she might attempt some sort of vengeance at some point, and it's likely any demon associated with the arch-demon we pissed off could reveal our secret.

I agree with enjoying all of this as backstory to our triumph as Asura though.
>>
I still think we should delve futher into demonolgy. It could be a great way to gather minions knowledge, and power.

Considering we escaped by shocking a demon with our pride, summoning a Yubrik (a pride demon) should be easy. Besides we alredy did the only thing it requires (killing a child).
>>
>>3693338
If we do we should focus on researching protections first. As well runecraft and demonology expertise, as a given. The demon mentioned not having a circle to protect us from it, that's likely something revealed with further research. And our staff giving us a bonus throughout everything was an incredible benefit, stacking mind and soul protection to an ideal +10 or even just +6 before poking demonology again would be for the best.

There's a good point, it'll be an interesting experiment on the nature of our mind control. > 18 VS DC: 18
> Minor Success
> 11 VS DC: 14
> Moderate Failure

In the weeks you’re forbidden to train for fear of worsening the damage already dealt, you do not lay idle, and instead immerse yourself into the mystery of that which has intrigued you for some time. Dreams, and the intricacies both of their formation and their function. Entering the mindscape each night, you examine the thought processes of slumbering snap-jaws and after an enormous amount of analysis, deduce that while the mind goes into an unconscious state, the soul is elevated, if not into a state of true consciousness, a sort of heightened awareness that echoes through the insensate mind.

There, on the border between a given snap-jaw’s mentality and spirituality, you detect a faint, rhythmic pulsing almost akin to the fluctuations of the golem’s proto-soul, and examining one in particular you find that some ripples, diminished though intact, find their way into the beast’s memories. Curious, you enter the beast’s mind, careful not to awaken it from its slumber, and poking and prodding here and there, descend into the undulation in progress. It is disorienting to the extreme before you’ve attuned yourself to the ‘pattern’ of ‘movement’ but when you do, you are most curious to make out the sight of a faint and ephemeral cave. This is strange, reminding you of the light of the tunnel superstitious preachers on the street corners used to shout about, and you’re wondering if you haven’t made a mistake when a loud grunting is heard, followed by some energetic barking.

Rounding a corner, you see the most unsavory sight of a snap-jaw’s wet dream, and intentionally throwing yourself off of the rhythm, exit immediately. Once the memory fades and the implications of what you’ve done set in, you are ecstatic, and you have every right to be, because you have learned the art of entering and exiting dreams! It takes you another week or two of practice, but eventually you work yourself to the extent you can do it at your leisure, if somewhat clumsily. Most of the time you jostle the connection between the conscious and subconscious enough that they’re forced awake, and you’re rarely able to go wholly undetected but ensuring they don’t remember the experience upon awakening is easy enough. You imagine interfacing with human dreams would be exponentially more difficult, to say nothing of actively changing the recurrent vision as it’s happening.

> (1/2)
>>
>>3693622
Perhaps it’s worth the effort in time, and training to interact with the dreamscape while slumbering shouldn’t be difficult, even if you’d be much more exhausted upon awakening. If nothing else, gaining the power to lucid dream on command could be a most welcome diversion from your rigorous daily labors.

> Dream (0) advances to Dream (1)

> Do you want to train yourself to enter the dreamscape during your sleep?

> Yes, despite the tiredness it would cause, this is too valuable a tool to leave lay.
> No, desperate to conquer creation though you may be, you need your shut-eye.

When you recover, you undergo a constant near-beating, and only your deft and practiced motions prevent you from sitting black and blue in your bed. Somewhat worryingly, you haven’t seen so much as a hint of your mother-wife, and the door to your study has stayed locked tighter than a merchant lord’s private vault. Hopefully she hasn’t been digging herself into another hole she can’t get out of on her own.

The Summer has left without a trace, and the Fall of Year 11 will soon take its place. Each year, your body grows taller, tougher, and stronger. Soon, you’ll learn everything this nomad can teach, and you’ll put your skill to the test somewhere more meaningful than a palace courtyard before an audience of sniveling dogs.

Affronted with the absence of sorcery in these last three years, you decide to turn your nightly rest to the mastery of those oh-so convincing illusions which persist between the conscious mind and unconscious soul. It takes you an enormous amount of time and effort, for which you pay a toll in blood and pain each day, but heedless of the sleepless nights scourging your schedule, you persist until the process of conscious dreaming has been unraveled and its secrets revealed unto you. The exhaustion seizes even parts of you that you weren’t aware existed, and it is unthinkable but it cannot compare to the elation of knowing that at your will each time you close your eyes, the mysteries of the dreamscape are laid open before you. Entering and exiting the dreams of others unseen has become easier than ever before, and moreover, you know that the true manipulation of the unconscious imagination is far from beyond your reach, given time and study.

> Dream (1) advances to Dream (2)

All of this, and a boy no more than seven years of age! Such triumph is truly an ego boost of the utmost potency, no matter that the lids of your eyes lay heavier than lead and the torment of that wretched stave is unchanged. Weariness cast aside, your attention is drawn to the fact that your mother-wife hasn’t left your study in north of six months and ignoring the encouraging words from the female slaves you purchased so long ago, you are wary to know what sort of blasphemies she might be committing behind those closed doors. Perhaps she’s uncovered the ancient dravidian and thinks to barter with demons to seize your soul? Perhaps she’s entombed herself with a dozen corpses, and is making macabre with their viscera even now? You simply have no way to know, but you know that you need to talk with her as soon as she sees fit to leave, assuming she’s in the state to be leaving.

Oh, dread. As the three years before, the Fall has fled and the Winter of Year 11 is nigh.

> Do you want to continue your exploration into the dreamscape, or take the season off for a much-deserved and much-needed rest?
> Furthermore, the shaman of the snap-jaws is beginning to reach an advanced age, should you attempt to transfer his mind and soul into another snap-jaw, or should you wait for another season to try your hand?

You decide that it would be best to leave your juvenile form a season’s time to rest, but reckon that the shaman scarcely has another year in him, if that, and you’d best go forward with whatever life-extension scheme you have in mind. Of course, the best bet is to transfer his soul into the body of another snap-jaw so that his dull, if cunning mind can overwhelm and assimilate the haphazard animal impulses therein. The problem with having the old mongrel undergo spontaneous soul-shifting is the fact that your understanding of soulcraft is theoretical at best, and you deduce it might be prudent to do an experiment of sorts before making a genuine attempt. Keeping that in the forefront of your mind, you think to yourself, what would make a better test subject than another snap-jaw?

It is in the midst of the night when you emerge from the ruins of the palace, and fortunately, not one of the feral, nocturnal shroomfolk said to lurk in the deepest, darkest chambers and passways of this place accosts you. All the same, you have an improvised club in hand and coalescing the darkness around yourself, you hope that it’s enough to conceal your presence and your intentions from curious eyes and ears. Reaching the edge of the snap-jaw encampment is trivial; even though a handful of sentries are awake, they’re lazy and inattentive enough that a raider clan could be halfway over the ramparts before they spoke a word and you are nowhere near so conspicuous.

Once you’re in proximity, entering the mindscape and finding an adequate candidate takes almost no time. The chosen snap-jaw is ancient, on the brink of senility, and quick enough to froth at the mouth you’re certain its will is superior to the feeble-minded but relatively strong-bodied specimen hovering near the bottom of the upper-caste. Actually forcing an unwilling soul from its body without damaging either requires an enormous amount of finesse and though you’re forced to wield your soul as a scalpel, your dominant will overpowers it with ease.

> (1/2)
>>
>>3694272
Then comes actually transporting it through the mindscape while it’s kicking and thrashing to return, but its astral howls are silent in the crisp night air, and ramming it into the skull of the second test subject is a bit easier than you’d anticipated. A proper analogy would be trying to run a marathon for the first time, not only as if an angry infant were clinging to your robes and wailing all the while, but if you had to toss the unfortunate newborn into a wide but distant hoop upon reaching the finish line. You’re lucky that these jackal-spawn are so weak-willed, and observing the mental combat between the pair at the distance, you chuckle when the upper-caste member arises in a bewildered, frothing at the mouth and barking to the heavens. Soon after there’s a full-fledged brawl going on, but it’s no concern to you, because you’ve seen what you need to, and you have somewhere to be tomorrow.

Over the course of the next three months, you narrowly manage to evade being beaten and bludgeoned into a pulp and nursing but a single, superficial flesh-wound, even your trainer is forced to admit that you’ve made a significant improvement. To the extent that, if he is to be believed, you are moving faster than he ever did and show no signs of stopping. Eventually, he fears he won’t be able to teach you anymore of evasion than you’ve already been self-taught. It’s an enormous ego-boost, but the fact that you’ve yet to even touch a spear or bow and arrow leaves you unsure.

Your mother still hasn’t left the study, though a snap-jaw occasionally enters and exits with a platter of greasy jackal-meat and almost yellowed oasis greens.

We should've intervened earlier, I admit that this "use dreams to fortell our return" plan is cool but dammit it is taking too long to get to the needed level of skill.

We've got to stop our wife continuing down her current path, realistically this can only be done by proving that we're alive and in our now-dead son's body. We blame his death on the demon, claim he destroyed his soul and our body forcing us into it.

We've been silent over this because we have been busy trying to break out of a series of mental blocks / controls it put in place to imprison and torture us.
>>
>I just can't get behind us just straight up admitting our son's soul is dead and eaten. Even if we manage to avoid the blame. I can definitely see her trying to kill herself after that.

I'd argue that what happened was a gradual "channeling" of his fathers essence..

Dream is probally the most powerful magic. You could create a dream scape that is lasts a year in our mind while actually only beinflg 8 hours in the real world. If we can combine this with the affect to make the dream world have the same physica and rules of the real world we could study at a enormously accelerated rate.
>>
>>3695100
I don't think it works like that.
After all, the dream is made up purely by our own will. All we'll learn in there is figments of our own imagination.
>>
>>3695104
Will and intent being so important to magic is an interesting foundation all on its own, too. Can we nurture a specific will within ourselves, if we actively seek it? Our childhood anger probably won't sustain us in a battle of wills against another archdemon. Or an enemy sorcerer fighting for their childhood friends.
>>
>>3695104
>>3695104
I'm thinking dream probably works great with mind and hex magic. could work with non-physical magick like runes or demonology (nightmares) i can't imagine it being usefull if you actually want to manifest anything physical like fire or earth. but since our fire power is fuelled by our emotions and memories it could help unlock certain mental doors buried deep in our subconscious.
>>
>>3695104
Dreams are made up of memories not pure will if we can get the base physics and natural rules of magic in there then we could learn magic through experimention. It's basically a highly realistic simulation of the real world. The hard part is getting the physics and natural law of magic in there since we don't know that is we may have to make a deal with a demon..
>>
>>3695155
>I love the idea of a manifesting a quasi-real mirrored version of the crumbling palace using dream magick. a floating structure amid the otherwise formless, impermanent and surreal landscape of the dream world. I not sure yet how that would be useful...but it's pretty cool!
>>
>>3695104
I think anon’s idea is

>Advance dream magic to where we can control timescale in dream
>advance it to where we can duplicate physical objects we’ve seen but not necessarily comprehended by accessing our subconscious memories (i.e. just flipping the pages in front of our eyes of one of our tomes or scrolls)
>use slowed timescale and memory-copy of time to study
>>
We could also make copies of books in the dream scape, but first we would have to memorize every word or use some kind of hex to keep that permanently in our mind.
>>
tfw when our entire rule was just the dream of a 6 year old boy
>>
>>3695171
Well, that makes sense.
But it might be better if we made a spell to read the books to us while we slept so we could learn subliminally.
>>
>>3695183
It's great, isn't it?
It's in character too.

>>3695172
With the exception of the metaphysical black tongue that might be worth trying.
We could also try bumping up our magic disciplines to level 6 for additional research slots for long term gain, like wind and runecraft gave us, just limited by our body for the moment. Fire/hex/mind are at 4, those would be the easiest for additional slots. That then becomes a significant die pool for progress.

You decide that it would be unwise to attempt the soul-transfer without a firmer understanding of what a soul is and what it can do. Finding one of the shroomfolk could be dangerous at your age, so you settle for knocking a snap-jaw unconscious and hauling him into a decrepit side-room. Barely a child or no, your physical strength is tremendous and you can only imagine how dangerous you’ll be once you’re grown. That’s beside the point, because you aren’t concerned with the material, only the immaterial and delving into its feeble mind, then deeper, into its wretched soul is a trivial affair.

The structure of a natural soul is nothing like an artificial proto-soul, where a golem is in a constant haze of interlocking parts, the snap-jaw is a smooth, flowing essence and its fluctuations are seldom and subtle, but where the ‘thoughts’ of the golem were continuous and restrained, the thoughts of the snap-jaw are spontaneous, as quick to emerge as they are to disperse. Emotion’s presence confers a third dimension to the mindset, exponentially increasing the complexity of an already inscrutable discipline but in a way, the living are simpler than golems because instead of several equally complex systems interfacing with one another, there’s only a single, near-impossible to understand structure

Uncovering the secrets of soulcraft could take years, if not decades of diligent study, but at the moment, that’s not what you’re interested in. Only the ins-and-outs of forcing souls from one body to another, heedless of what the natural order decrees. ‘Gripping’ the soul is less challenging than you thought and forcing it from the metaphysical ‘shell’ within the physicality is almost painfully simple. Once withdrawn, the terrified snap-jaw’s subconscious explodes into motion, railing against you with a manic tenacity but it’s to no avail, for such is your self-assured urge to conquer creation and lay waste to all who would deny you, your strength in the psyche makes even Asura’s might seem trivial.

Actually getting it back in takes a bit of doing and you have to hit the vermin in the back of the skull to keep it from crying out, but aside from a handful of easily ignored rumors, there’s not a single bit of evidence to prove that any souls have been tampered, let alone tie them to you. It hardly matters what a handful of jackal-spawn think, because you have your proof of context, and from here the furtherance of your dominion is inevitable. Even if you fail to improve any in the art of evasion, it’s of little concern as you soon enter the dreams of the shaman. Back in the form of Azikial, you find yourself standing behind a pillar of stone and are stunned at the clarity. A loud, frenzied howling can be heard nearby, and you peek around the masonry to catch sight of an idealized version of the shaman, slitting the throat of another snap-jaw and kicking its lifeless corpse from the top of what you’re realizing is a temple structure, to the sound of a thousand howling voices. Those are of no concern, merely figments of his imagination, but you’re stunned to see that his zeal persists even in sleep.

Of course getting a proper immortality would be better but this is also a viable way
Hell, maybe we'll be able to craft an artificial human body and make it beyond peak human and later transfer into it

makes no sence that we suffer the "child" limiitations in the dreamworld desu

I think it's because it's still magic, though it would appear that both casting limits and training time have absolutes regarding a body's maturity.

Interestingly, whatever ages we get our d2/d3 back we'll figure out the approximate maturity requirement for when an ideal sorcerer/martial gets the most out of training. Age 10, 12, 15+ etc.

The OP hasn't posted in 40 hours, so I think the reasonable conclusion is that he got killed by a pack of foxes and then got banned for good measure.

Sorry to drop off the face of the earth, but a pair of obese women have been running up grocery bills with a stolen checkbook of mine and I've been preoccupied taking care of that shit. I'll try to update when I can but I've been busy talking to the police and gathering info on the thieves, apparently they're from another county.

>>3698047
That's not because your physical body belongs to a child, it's because your handle on dream magic is extremely weak.

We have many interesting times ahead. And then there's Aarifa's rolls...

To be fair, we should have plenty of freedom to roam and at least Bo2 when we're young adolescents. We're growing at a rapid rate physically, so it wouldn't be too far-fetched to act like we're a genius far beyond our years.

Top quality quest as always.
Pretty hectic thread but I'm pretty happy with the way things turned out.
I'm definitely in favour of revealing some of our knowledge to our mother, probably through some knowledge our "father" gave us

Sorry for the radio silence but a week an elderly acquaintance of mine died from a stroke, completely unrelated to the tobacco relapse. The funeral was yesterday and today I’m going to be handling a dentist’s appointment. When I get back I’ll resume the updates.

Your bank should reimburse you, right? I know at least even credit unions do that after the police get their report settled, both for checkbooks and second cousins stealing mum's credit card so long as it's chargeable as theft.
>>
>>3707615
I don’t know, I’m uninsured for credit, live in a shithole, and I’m not sure what the legislation is on it.
>>
>>3707643
Make some calls and get 'em funds figured out. We'll put you back on the docket. What time should I pencil you in for?
>>
>>3707643
Well that sucks. Shit like "get your stolen shit balanced back" is basic in the NE even for debit or overseas theft. With my bank I didn't even need police contact when a little shit neighbor tried to buy games.

Shame you can't just shoot them. I'd recommend talking to your bank about options though, even shitty banks will allow theft prevention for purchases that are outside preset limitations (like bullshit you'd never buy, etc).

Quentin Masters or QM as his friends (people that tolerated his presence on Discord) called him, stood in his NEET cave. The air was ripe with the smell of tendies, mountain dew and the fumes of his cum sock. His brow furrowed in concentration, as he starred at the map of the county he had taped to the barren concrete wall next to his battle station. Little red dots marked the locations where the hungry whale had used his checks, now all he had to do was find the pattern to this thievery to find the beasts lair.

A howl of autistic rage escaped QMs mouth, for five minutes he had stared at the dots, but no pattern had revealed itself. One of his massive meaty hands grabbed the pee bottle he had been using, ready to hurl it at the map that would not reveal its secrets, when suddenly...it all made sense. Frantically he rushed to the map and began to scribble on it. Red lines rushed frantically over the fabric, their paths crossed, entangled and finally all pointed to one inevitable conclusion: J. Crow Boulevard. It was all so clear now, the land whale was surely operating from there.
>Investigation[2] +2 on rolls
"ROOOOOOOOOOOO" QM could not help but let lose a triumphant war cry, the time of vengeance was nigh, the whale would die. But what weapon to bring to slay such a beast? QMs piggish eyes darted around the room, looking for a weapon to bring the creature to justice, that had wronged them.

>Pee Bottle
>Totally real and sharp Katana (dull and made in china)
>A butter knife
>A broken bottle
>Nothing his mighty fists were enough.....

After having decided on a weapon, only one question remained: How would he travel to the beasts lair?

>Just walk (6 miles, at night, while being 250lbs)
>Hitchhike
>Borrow mums car
>Public transport

To inspire fear into the whale and to force them to give us the money back
>Borrow mums car

If we just walk we could lose all our stamina and we could lose our Katana

As a gentleman of class and a true Samurai, there really was no other choice than his Katana. Folded over six goizillion times and honed to a razors edge, it was a work of art and a weapon of mass destruction. QM grinned as he gave it a test swing before tugging it away in his belt. It was time to go. QM climbed the stairs out of his basement and after catching his breath, found himself in his houses hallway. His mother must have already retired for the night, as the house lay dark and silent, her car keys glinting on the wall next to the door. QM had not driven in years, but how hard could it really be? He sure as hell wasn't going to walk. And so, like one of the thieves he was hunting, QM grabbed the key and snuck to the car. The engine came to live and after some questionable driving maneuvers, QM was slowly cruising towards his target.
Suddenly out of the darkness, roughly 30m ahead of him, two gleaming white eyes emerged. QM froze up in fear and hit the brakes, what kind of witchcraft was this? No matter how hard he tried to pierce the darkness, he could not spot the body of the creature. The two white orbs hovered roughly at a mans height and occasionally a tooth or two flashed brightly below them.
What should he do being faced with such a terrifying sight?

>Stare down the creature while rolling on
>Keep your head down as you try to pass it
>Get out the car and face the foe
>Just keep sitting here, it will surely disappear
>Hit the gas and ram the thing
>Turn the car towards it and then turn on the lights

The solid majority of quests die early, whether it's a lack of interest or the QM dropping it. Still, I think OP might come back after a while based on his posts. All that's left is to archive the thread and wait to see if a new Dark Lord Civ thread pops up at some point
