The Lighthouse War is over, but conflict still continues.

With Erusea's defeat at the hands of the Osean Federation and the International United Nations, the imperial nation has splintered into a confusing mess of separatists, freedom fighters, warlords, rogue military factions, and those seeking to profit from the chaos. Worse, Erusea's many automated drone factories still remain intact, waiting for new masters to come to claim them.

The Usean continent remains in crisis, and it's up to a new generation of pilots to face this next generation threat...

You are MILLY, the "Red Tail", a Belkan Air Force pilot fighting for the IUN!

To say that the whole raid on Harling's memorial service caused a bit of a commotion was a pretty huge understatement. The news of the bold attack on the world's leaders spread like wildfire, as did the rumors of who was responsible. Unfortunately, drones at this point were pretty much untraceable given how easy they were to get. And the few survivors that the IUN managed to capture were all that talkative.

Aaaaaand who did everybody blame? Fucking Belkans of course. It was all over the news channels and internet blogs.

Honestly, it was a bunch of bullshit. It was always blame the Belkans for every ill of the world. As if other countries didn't start their own shit all the time!

Also, in a totally not related issue, your squadron was temporarily grounded until the "investigation" into the attack was concluded. Because after blowing up one of the goddamn drone carriers, it apparently meant you were still not above suspicion!

Really, it was just bullshit.

Honestly, you just felt like getting a drink now. You weren't in a particular mood to hang out with anybody else, though, except for maybe Karla or Bandit. Only they'd understand, after all.

You slide in at the bar and order the strongest bottle of Yuke vodka in stock. The bartender doesn't ask any questions and calmly slides a bottle and glass in front of you.

You've barely poured your first glass when you hear someone walking up behind you. You turn and see another pilot, a rather young looking one. On his shoulder, you could see the patch for Sea Dragon, so he had be one of those F-18s up there with you.

"Excuse me..." He asks rather shyly. "Are... are you Red Tail? From Raven Squadron?"

"Yep, I'm Red Tail, all right." You respond smugly, glad there are people around here that appreciate your efforts.

"Wow... I mean... wow!" The Sea Dragon pilot looks like he's about to faint on the spot. "U-um, well, this might sound a little wierd and all, but... you wouldn't mind joining us for a drink, will you?"

He motions to the rest of his squadron.

Eh, why the hell not? They were paying after all.

"Heh, you're going to regret that." You chuckle as you find a free spot at their table, setting down your Yuke vodka.

"A-anyways, I'm Sea Dragon Lead." The young pilot introduces himself. "And, well, this is Sea Dragon squadron. Like your squadron, we're a composite unit. Pilots from all over Erusea."

"Is that so?" You nod as you sip at your glass, noting how all of the Sea Dragon pilots were basically just kids. Hell, you were probably a bit older than all of them!

"Huh, I see." You nod. "Little bit of everything indeed."

"Still, it's so weird seeing a Belkan squadron flying in the IUN!" One of the other Sea Dragon pilots pipes up. "Figured your country would be a bit more... isolationist, you know?"

"Well, we didn't exactly volunteer." You shrug. "We got ordered out here because the IUN was short on pilots and our government wanted to score some international brownie points. Simple as that."

"Well, I think it's still a really fortunate thing that you're here!" Sea Dragon Lead smiles. "I also heard that you used to fly with the Wild Cards?"

"Well... kinda. I was never OFFICIALLY a part of them..." You admit a bit sheepishly. "But most of the shit I know, I learned from them."

"Hmmmm, speaking honestly? Karla's really the only one I regularly talk to." You shrug. "I do my best keeping up with the others, but they're all off doing their own thing and sometimes it gets hard keeping track of everything."

"I guess it makes sense." Sea Dragon Lead nods in understanding. "Still, it's kinda shame they disbanded so early on."

"Well, you can't blame 'em for wanting to go off and do their own things." You say as you finish off your vodka glass. Seemed like a good opportunity now to ask a question of your own to them.

"So, you all are from this continent, right?" You ask. "Where the hell did all those rumors about Belka starting the Lighthouse War come from?"

"Hm, well the Conservatives in Erusea are the ones who keep saying that." Sea Dragon Lead replies. "At least, according to them, Belka was the country that provided drone technology to the Radicals, and was secretly controlling them from the shadows."

"And do you actually believe that?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Ha, well, none of us have seen any proof, for starters!" Sea Dragon Lead responds quickly. "Honestly, I sort of think it's a narrative Erusea's pushing to duck responsibility for the war. It wasn't Belkan boots marching across our soil, but Erusean ones."

There's a lot of nodding among the other Sea Dragons.

Well, at least they didn't blindly believe that bullshit rumor. Maybe these kids had potential after all.

Well, you had to admit, the Sea Dragons did a lot better than you thought they would. While most of them were out after the first shot, a few managed to survive a couple more, and surprisingly enough, Sea Dragon Lead was still up and completely fine.

"Hey, not bad." You grin as you nod approvingly to Sea Dragon Lead. "You've done this before, haven't you?"

"Well, you can say I come from a family of heavy drinkers." Sea Dragon laughs lightly with some slight embarrassment. "Just something I got accustomed to."

"Yeah, well, a skill like that is gonna take you far." You laugh. Your phone then vibrates in your pocket. You check it quickly to see that it was a message from Bandit, requesting you to head to the briefing room.

Damn, well, you should probably go see what Bandit wants. The last thing you want is for him chewing you out for not responding to his summon on the account of being dead drunk.

"Sorry, I gotta go. Maybe we'll catch each other later." You grin as you get up. "You can have the rest of the bottle."

"Well, we ARE paying for it." Sea Dragon Lead chuckles. "But yeah, hopefully we'll be able to fly together again in the future!"

You then take your leave. Guess the Sea Dragons weren't all that bad. Least they didn't seem to make any judgments about you. Maybe sinking that drone carrier in a single shot really made an impression on them.

Regardless, you continue on your way to the briefing room, where you see Bandit and... Karla? What she doing here?

"Red, good to see you here." Bandit nods to an empty chair. "Take a seat, there's something we need to discuss."

"Yes sir." You say as you quietly sit down, genuinely curious as to what was going on.

"A bit of good news, but the IUN has just now re-certified us for flight operations." Bandit informs you. "A bit of not as great news is that we're being sent out on another mission."

"Let me guess. It's gonna be a shitshow." You frown. Bandit wouldn't have called you here privately otherwise.

"You could say it's another little test for you guys." Karla says with a serious tone. "The IUN's intel team managed to trace the drones to an automated drone factory in southern Erusea, in one of the breakaway regions fighting for autonomy. Looks like they're making some cash on the side by selling drones to local pirates who made the mistake of biting off more than they could chew."

"So the attack wasn't politically motivated?" You blink.

"Oh, it sure was politically motivated all right." Karla scowls. "They were hoping to nab a few high ranking diplomats or world leaders for ransom. In either case, they embarrassed the IUN, and more importantly, they put Ellisaria in danger, so all the fuckers are gonna burn."

"...I'm going to assume you're the one who volunteered us for this mission." You sigh.

"Got you back in the air, didn't it?" Karla points out.

"Well, you're right." You nod. "These assholes deserve a good pounding!"

That's when Karla snorts loudly. Even Bandit visibly has to fight from showing an obvious amused grin.

"What? What's wrong?" You blink, confused.

"Sweet." You glow with pride.

"But she also plans to forever remind you that you completely whiffed a missile shot on a ship the size of a skyscraper." Karla adds mirthfully.

It was hardly a day or two later that all the arrangements for the retaliation mission were made. Apparently, the IUN was eager to to save face by taking out the perpetrators responsible.

However, one little snag was that the base the pirates originated from was still technically within Erusean territory. Well yeah, it was currently a breakaway state, but the ruling government of Erusea still considered it their sovereign territory, which would make operating there... complicated.

As such, the actual amount of forces the IUN was willing to commit was actually rather low, in order to avoid a potential international incident with Erusea. The idea was to deploy only one or two elite squadrons to perform precision strikes on the drone factory and the port the pirates were using as a base. Naturally, being the red headed Belkan stepchildren, you were selected for the naturally dangerous job.

However, there was the option to bring Orpheus along to help out. It would be some extra planes and missiles, but they'd also try to hog all the glory...

You decide to stop by one of the spare barracks where some of the evacuees had been set up until they could be returned home. That was where Karla, Jaeger, and Ellisa were living at until things blew over. Once you got closer, though, you could see Ellisa sitting outside, gazing at the planes as they took and and landed from the airfield. Seemed like she was deep in thought.

Or at least really bored.

You decide to cut through one of the barracks halls, knowing that it would get you ahead of Ellisa. You dash through the halls before coming out the other side, putting you right in Ellisa's path as expected. The little brat is quick, though. She slides to a halt and tries to change direction-

-and runs right into Vicky, toppling her over. Poor Vicky was so tiny that even a little girl like Ellisa could bowl her over!

"Eeeep!" Vicky shrieks.

"Aaaaahhh!" Ellisa yelps.

"Gotcha ya little twerp!" You cackle as you grab Ellisa by the back of her collar. "Thanks for the assist, Vicky!"

"I don't even know what happened!" Vicky whimpers as she tries to get back up to her feet.

"Who's the geezer now, ya twerp?" You grin as you keep a tight grip on Ellisa.

"Okay, you're not old." Ellisa concedes. "Just bliiiiiiiiiind!"

"One of these days I'm gonna give you a ride on my plane and toss you out." You glower.

"What's even going one?!" Vicky wails, completely confused.

"Just teaching this brat some manners." You explain. "What are you doing here?"

"Bandit is looking for you! We're supposed to be taking off soon!" Vicky groans.

Ah, damn!

"Funny time for you all to be playing." Karla sighs as she arrives. "Ellisa, you're not being too mean to them, are you?"

"Of course not!" Ellisa says sweetly, amping up her cute factor. Damn kid.

"Well, it's been fun, but duty calls!" You give a little wave. "Come on ,Vicky!"

"What's going oooooon." Vicky groans in confusion as you pull her away.

"Just some dumb kid stuff, don't worry about it." You assure her.

The both of you head for the hangar, where your planes were already being prepped. Looks like Bandit and Misono were already getting ready for takeoff, meaning you and Vicky had to hustle.

"Oh my gosh we're going to be so behind schedule!" Vicky wails as she dashes for her fighter.

"Hey, Red, what are gonna be packing?" Mead asks as you dash past her. "We go the standard missiles, but what do you want for your special loadout?"

"Let's get some ground munitions on there." You say.

"Right." Mead nods and turns to the other technicians. "Let's get some bombs on that Su-30!"

"Bombs?" You pause as you glance at the munition cart they're rolling over to your plane. Sure enough, you could see that they were loading iron bombs onto your plane! The cheapest of the cheap of munitions!

"What the hell is this?!" You blink, aghast.

"Sorry, it's the only thing your squadron is cleared for." Mead sighs. "Guess they don't have enough stock to go around."

"Fine, whatever." You sigh as you proceed to the changing room. You honestly didn't have the time or desire to argue things with Mead. This sort of decision making was out of her hands, after all.

It takes only a few more minutes to get yourself properly dressed and back in the cockpit of your Su-30.

"Red, nice of you to join us." Bandit grunts. "Raven Squadron, get ready for takeoff."

You follow the rest of your squadron as you all take off into the air, and then make a course northwards in the direction of Erusea.

"All right everybody, just to remind you all, we have two primary targets." Bandit speaks up over the radio. "The first target is the drone factory. We take that out, we choke off some of those drones being sold off the black market. The second target is the port facilities, where the pirates are using to base their ships out of."

"Are just the four of us going to be enough to take all those targets out?" Vicky asks.

"Hopefully." Bandit replies. "We can focus all our efforts to take one target out or we can split up by wing pair to hit both simultaneously."

The two F-16s are instantly smoked by the volley of missiles, with you and Vicky bagging one each.

"Nice shot, both of you!" Brighteye compliments.

Meanwhile, down below, explosions ripple across the waterfront as Bandit and Misono go on their attack runs, dropping their bombs as they go.

"All right, Red, Swordfish, we'll head up to cover you. Make your attack runs and we'll proceed to the factory." Bandit informs you.

"Got it!" You nod as you nose your Su-30 down towards the ground, glancing at the now burning port.

"W-where to we even hit first?" Vicky wonders. "It's so big..."

Your mind is already trying to figure that out as your eyes gather as much information as possible. In the port itself, you could see several large cargo container vessels docked next to each other, all these possible drone carriers. And if not, there the possibility that they could later be converted.

Meanwhile, there were large oil tanks on the waterfront that were used to fuel the docked ships. Some bombs there would REALLY light things up, that would cause a lot of collateral and environmental damage, you figure.

Finally, there was a large parking lot filled with cargo containers. No telling what was in them, but they could be camouflaged drone launchers. You could never know...

Your bombs hit true, landing right on top of the oil tanks and puncturing them like balloons. You only have a scant few seconds to climb away before the massive oil tanks detonate, sending fire and flaming oil flying in all directions.

"Eeeek!" Vicky yelps as she drops her own bombs in a panic and climbs to avoid the fireball.

Very quickly the port was turning into a massive firestorm as flaming oil begins spilling from the ruptured tanks. There was no way anybody could stop the wave of flaming oil from engulfing the port

"Haha! Did ya see that, Bandit?" You boast smugly.

"Sure did." Bandit says simply. "Anyways, me and Misono are bit held up by another hostile patrol. Proceed to the factory without us."

Sure enough, up above, you could see Bandit's F-15E and Misono's F-2 tangling with another quartet of F-16s.

"Are they going to be fine by themselves...?" Vicky wonders.

"They can handle themselves!" You assure Vicky. "Come on, let's go flatten that factory!"

You vector in towards the factory, which was a massive complex. This was the first time that you'd actually seen a drone factory in person, and it looked more like a small city. Just acres and acres of assembly lines and warehouses, all dedicated to building mindless, dedicated war machines.

"T-target locks!" Vicky warns.

"AA system are activating!' Brighteye calls out. "Watch out, Ravens, they're trying to get a lock on you!"

Well, you could always do a low altitude, high speed bomb run. Don't give the AA defenses any time to get a proper lock on you, but you wuoldn't have the time or opportunity to aim your already questionably accurate bombs very well.

Or, you could try to suppress the AA defenses. It would take more time, but would allow you to more comfortably set up a more effective bombing run.

>Just do a high speed bomb run before they can get a lock.

Split the attack, Milly goes after the AA, Vicky hits the factory.

Instead of slowing down, you open up your throttle, gaining more speed. They had AA? Well, let's see how fast it would be...

You release your bombs, but at the high speed you're going, they all scatter in multiple directions, hitting random parts of the factory but failing to cause any sort of significant damage. Even Vicky's run didn't seem to do much-

And then, like a disturbed hornet's nest, drones begin launching from the factory. Over a dozen MQ-99s, and even a few of the more feared MQ-101s start taking to the skies, ready to engage any threat they came across.

Guess things weren't going to be as easy as you thought at first...

>And that's it for tonight! As always, next thread will be on Friday, so don't miss it!

The one you like the most Anon.
Now if you said worst AWACS then I'd vote for Thunderhead.
