You’re already moving before the splintered body hits the ground. You don’t want to risk yourself for anyone, but you’re still in a bad position- out in the open, too many guns on you, and you don’t have many options that won’t lead to later issues down the line.

But, better later than now! “Flash out!” You yell right before you light yourself up. You don’t even know if they’ll think it’s a flashbang or not- but it’s just good manners.

>Current Mana: 12500/12500

Fortunately, no one seems to register what you’re up to in time as you let loose, the brightness overtaking the sun for a moment that seems to you longer than normal- and judging from the various panicked sounds from above, they felt it. Crash seemed to have, too, though, judging by his swear-filled gibberish. You don’t exactly have much opportunity to question it as you snatch up the Vanishing Plate out of your bag; you channel some of your mana into the device, and you’re unsurprised as your person seems to vanish entirely, even to your own sight. Not sure if that’s intended or not. Shame you didn’t have time to record this data- but regardless, you’ve got the upper hand, if only for a momen-

Gunshots from the distance ring out, interrupting your thoughts. Guess it seems like your folks thought enough was enough.

There’s shouting and confusion as suddenly the area you were in becomes something close to a killzone; you’re already darting for the cavern lip- it’s the best cover you’ve got, really, if you’re going to try to take out these assholes. You’ve got your loaned Bolt Pistol, which should help, but if need be, there’s always...other ways of force.

>Don’t try to be a heroine- get up and fire from a safe distance among the crags and make them worry about you. Better to keep your cover that way, even if it draws things out.
>You might as well take the opportunity to get in close and personal. Would prevent them from getting comfortable at range, although it won’t be fun to try to explain the results away…
>Everyone’s blinded, or too far away to see precisely… a bit of magic should clean this all up very fast and very neatly. Provided no one asks many questions, that is.

Pretty well. As stated in my Twitter, there's a few interesting things going on this weekend. Just came from one, will be going to another in about an hour or so, and tomorrow I'm going to a ballgame.

Basically our way to explain it will be "Shut up, i saved your life."

You’re not really keen on letting them take potshots at you. With one leap you hit an outcropping to the right of where they are, avoiding the bullets coming in at the other clan, and the second takes you up and over, where they’re mostly still trying to rub the spots out of their eyes. There’s five of them behind the lip- you hadn’t even seen two, and that’s not counting the ones on the far end. Speaking of, actually.

“AUG-” the one closest to you quickly perishes as leap, grab at his neck, and swung behind him all in midair, sending his cranium twisting a full 180 before he drops to the ground. You keep hold of the body as you land, dragging it up for an overhand toss into the crony nearest him, sending the living one sprawling to the ground as a couple hundred pounders of dead outlander collides into him. A sudden gunshot rings out, and you flinch as you feel something pinch at your side- you don’t think anything broke skin, but you’ll have to check that later as you aim for the guy that pulled off the wild shot with his pistol.

He seems to hear you still walking, and he fires again- only to hit dirt, first with his gun, then once that’s taken away from him, his masked mouth as you sling him to the ground, cracking his mask, and then giving a solid stomp just to be certain.

“Hey!” You barely hear it before you draw your own pistol and let fire a trio of shots in the direction of the aiming bandit, cracking his armor and then slicing his neck horribly as he slumps to the ground. Phew. That’s four, at least, now for number five- oh.

(cont.)
>>
>>3699957
Seems like number five- the negotiator, natch- finally managed to clear his eyes. The pistol he has leveled at you doesn’t look like your own- it’s slimmer, but has a large attachment at the back of it- resembles a canister of some sort, or a small liquid tank. You’re not sure what’s in it. “That’s...that’s gonna stop right there,” he says a bit shakily, bombast lost, clearly. Another gunshot rings out, and you hear yelling as people get closer. “Now, kid, I-I don’t know what you did, but you, you’re gonna calm down and you’re gonna sit still unless you want to die slowly and painfully.” Another gunshot sounds, this bullet pinging off the stone near him, and quickly raising his voice, he yells out. “I GOT A HOSTAGE! I SEE ANYONE OR HEAR ANY MORE GUNFIRE, OR ANYONE TRYING TO BE A HERO, AND THE KID’S AS GOOD AS DEAD!” He doesn’t seem to register that YOUR gun is on him, too. It’s really more of a standoff than a hostage situation...

Hm. The lip is too high for them to see you over, and he’s low enough that it would likely be hard to get a bead on him- not that you think there are any sharpshooters on your side anyway…

“YOU ASSHOLE!” Crash yells. “YOU SHOULDA JUST GIVEN US THE GOODS!”

“HEY, FUCK YOU! SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST!” Yeah, so much for that easy attitude. “Times change, dumbass,” he mutters to himself as he keeps an eye on you. “New day, new deals, new drama…”

> A new deal? New drama? Maybe you could try and get him to explain himself…see what caused this in the first place.
> You need to try and drag his attention off you- if only for a second. Just enough to plug him and end this. (How?)

Do you really want to risk taking a shot of whatever it's the thing he has on his back? It's probably those seither powered weapons.
>>
>>3700113
It's pistol sized, I don't think it can pierce two shields and our power armor.
>>
>>3700123
It might be a seither-thrower; at which point, all it would do is give us a rush of energy, and we shouldn't shoot him for that.
We should punch into his chest and crush his heart.

People have a tendency to track weapons, even once they're out of your hands. When he watches it fall, that's our chance to cap him. If he doesn't watch it for some reason, put up one of those smaller shields we recently figured out over our chest, then blast him with a magi-blast.

>The pistol he has leveled at you doesn’t look like your own- it’s slimmer, but has a large attachment at the back of it- resembles a canister of some sort, or a small liquid tank.
That's either a small flamethrower, some kinda bioweapon, or bottled Seither. In any case, after the fight we should take a look at it.

>>
>>3703089
Presumably they had rifles, shotguns, or other long guns, or failing that at least stocked pistols. They knew this was going to be firefight, and had the terrain advantage for concealing them. No reason for them to not bring more powerful weapons

Speaking of, did we figure out which gun blew out our guy? That thing would be worth looking at. I doubt we'd want to keep it, but maybe we could trade it to these scrappers for something more valuable to us.

“New deal?” you repeat softly. His eyes jerk to yours, off your hands, but all you get for the first few seconds is silence. “New drama? Something happen?”

“None of your business, kid,” he spits. “You just got unlucky, coming with them today. Might have to keep you around. Leverage, y’see.”

Yeeaaah, that probably wasn’t happening. “Just saying, if something’s got you over a barrel, then there’s no reason to just keep it to yourself, I think.”

He just stares, and then lets out something close to a laugh. “Kid, are you new? Did your folks die recently? Well, maybe you’ll figure it out during your little stay.” Wait a minute. You blink once, hearing a familiar rumbling. Turning your attention sideways just a bit, you’re surprised to see a few trucks of the massive convoy come rumbling up, several gunners out in the windows… “Hey, HEY! THE FUCK? YOU WANT HER TO DIE?”

“Do it if ya wanna!” Crash says all too quickly. “Kill ‘er and you lose the only damn thing you got on us now!” How loyal.

“Fuck you!” He yells back red-faced. “I’ll get everyone in the clan to come an’ stomp you ALL into the dirt! We have a walker, asshole! We’ll tear you to pieces!”

“You can try,” Crash says. “But you won’t. We got an anti-aircraft cannon what can zap you outta the sky! Not to mention we got a walker, too! Just snatched it!”

His eyes (what you can see of them) bulge. “Bullshit!”

You have to agree quite vehemently.

“Try me!” Crash says. “Better than anythin’ you got, for certain! Wouldn’t take but a couple minutes to wipe out the clan with it!” The convoy is closer, and you’re left wondering what the fuck as his eyes flitter between Crash, the convoy, you, and off into the distance.

You’re not one to ignore an opening for an attack if you can help it. After all this time where you haven’t budged, he makes the fatal mistake of taking his eyes off you via moving his entire head to try and see just what’s going on underneath him better.

All you need. You flick your wrist and squeeze the trigger, moving down and to the right almost simultaneously as he turns back to you a half second too late. His neck blossoms out in rich blood, teetering backwards as a small pellet impacts the ground next to your feet. There’s a small puff of red gas- Seither pellet gun, then? Well, that’s neat to know. Makes sense. But, now for more important things- wait, what’s the yelling for?

More gunshots ring out, and you’re unsurprised to see a pair of large off-roaders careening away from the sight as fast as possible in the opposite direction. Right, likely backup, and probably didn’t like how things were turning out. Before you can think about what to say, suddenly a gunshot, and one of them blows a tire, sending them skidding as they lose traction- and careening right into the other vehicle, a shower of metal heralding them BOTH going tumbling as they unwillingly, entwined together, start to resemble art deco more than vehicles.

Well, that was thankfully solved...to a certain extent. Now, as for that ‘swiped a Walker’ crack from Crash…

Finding your way down that won’t ask people questioning how you survived a two floor jump with no concerns, you reach down to where Crash is monitoring the gathering of the supplies they’ve got. He looks at you with something approaching...frustration, you think, but just nods his hello, not saying anything about the recent situation. You spare a glance backwards, out of the cavern hole. Sloan’s body is still just lying there.

Fantastic. That means you’re going to have to broach the topic, if you’re going to talk about it.

>Might as well be conciliatory. “Impressive to call his bluff like that.” Might at least curry a bit of favor just in case.

While asking him about what he said is a reactionary response, I'd say that would accomplish little to nothing, or even put him on hostile stance, which can result in even more troubles and delays. So instead let's just quietly go back to the mech after this job and get whatever repairs are needed done to leave ASAP already. If there are anymore attempts at theft though... “Impressive to...call his bluff like that,” you venture, only stressing the ‘bluff’ slightly. You’re not interested in trying to rock the boat too much right now, but him saying that still doesn’t sit well with you.

He doesn’t say anything towards that, either, simply nods. You’re not actually impressed. “I don’t know what you did or how you got up there so fast. We’re going to have questions later. For now, just help everyone load up.”

“Are we going to scavenge the dead?” you ask.

“Hmmm…” he growls a bit, but nods. “Fine. Should be put to use anyway. I’ll send someone to collect from the fallen; it’ll be divvied up later.”

“I’m taking the guns.” you say quickly. “Or at least a couple of them.”

“You don’t need all those,” he quickly counters. “You wouldn’t be able to use most of them and they’re better off being given to those who need them instead of being trophies. No.”

Freakin’ really? “I’m the one who killed them, you know.”

“You say that like it matters. You can have one, and that’s it. And we’ll decide what one that is.” He turns away, considering it to be the end of the conversation. Fucking fantastic.

The loading is fairly quick; with the trucks being closer now, the back and forth is much shorter, and it’s not exceptionally long before everything’s packed up and ready to go. Sloan was given a quick burial. The guns were, indeed, taken, and you at least got a good look at the crate they were in; not on your flatbed, but one of the ones next to you. You’ll have to remember that later.

The drive back is equally quiet, fortunately. When you get back to the hangar and everyone begins the process of unloading, however, Crash turns back to you. “Help everyone unload, and STAY HERE until you’re sent for. Got it?” He doesn’t wait for an answer, marching off back into the main complex. Curious...but at least you’ve got a chance at that gun, now.

It’s as you approach the three fellows unloading the boxes that you ID the specific crate by placement. Now, how to get it…

>Try to convince them that you earned it fairly, considering they were trying to kill you. It’s only just, isn’t it?
>Ask them to take a look at it and see if you can’t scan it quickly. You might not be able to take the gun, but a 3D blueprint should work well enough…

Yeah no, I honestly don't see why people even care to try to be nice anymore. The guy can't be more obvious in how he and whoever else is in on it (hint: every other Scrapper) plans to just kill her and take her shit later. It's time to start taking everything we want from here and get ready to leave.

The constant freaking out over every minor slight or person who doesn't immediately treat us with fear/respect since we got to this hideout isn't helping, you know. Hell, since we started this mission, even.
>>
>>3703640
By the way, I think our low Intimidation and high Plainness made him think that a little girl like us shouldn't be trusted with guns.
Should've gone with the Warlord set instead of Balanced one for this job.
>>
It's not like they have any reason to trust us anyway. Besides if they do try to kill us we will just kill everyone else in our way. Saying that we lose a lot of trust by trying to grab the guns without asking.

We might not trust then but i say they have treated us fairly well so far. Not to mention the scrappers life style itself isn't so surprising that they would snatch the walker if we were dead.

Point is we lose nothing by being polite and they lose every respect and mercy we may have for then if they don't follow what we say. Big example is Pattycake she is the only one of these guys i would be slightly upset about killing.

Being nice opens you extra windows of action that doesn't resort to "kill everyone". It's not helping us right now due to how this specific people work, but we'll get rid of them soon enough. And we have to because i'm sure that aegis is stating to wonder where the hell we are.

>>3703671
to be fair, we weren't supposed to be here, doing this kind of convoy job in the first place.
>>
>>3703682
Eh, the pilots of our client don't think much of us either, since we look like a Scrapper with freaky eyes anyway.
>>
>>3703671
This too. Now we know why Miranda set is mostly focus on intimidation. Makes everyone respect us and not trying to upset us, most of the time.
>>
>>3703663
I never cared for their respect or fear. The only things I wanted was fairness in dealing with trade and loot, and them not showing signs of trying to steal the mech. So far they've failed.

>>3703671
I still say the power armor set would've been best. Completely fitting with the world setting, and totally intimidating. I don't get the appeal to look different just to have a more interesting appearance when the most optimized set for the mission should take precedence.
>>
>>3703685
The pilots opinions might change. I mean the ace pilot guy i forget his name seems to have taken a interest to us.
>>
>>3703685
Remember that sal sold us as a scrapper, and given how everyone else saw us, going how we went ende up being the wisest choice. going full warlord would have set everyone on the edge to the point that they would try to sabotage us.
>>
>>3703687
Good thing that Crash isn't the leader and since their leader gave us a pass and security to stay then everything should be fine for a while.

But i can see then trying to get the walker since this other clan wants to fuck with their stuff. If that is the problem we can just deal with Prometheus that we will support then and destroy the other clan. They can keep the scraps from the other scrapper clan and their other walker.
>>
>>3703636
>>You doubt they really noticed it. Ask to help, and see if you can’t pocket it once everyone’s back is turned.
He's acting like we're a lackey of his. This is way too much for someone on a brief stopover. He's not our client. Enough is enough.
>>
>>3703687
The thing is, we were never going to get that. We jump in their territory with a corp made mech, with other corp mechs chasing us, we don't tell them which scrapper clan we belong to, we look like a high schooler, and nobody has even seen our eyes.

Of course they'd be worried about our motives for a while. Wouldn't you?
>>
>>3703705
What? being fair? You mean that their unfair distribution of loot and plots to steal mech can be excused by the suspicions? what?

Look, if you still mean useless things like respect than lemme tell you this: I, don't, care. The only thing that Does matter to me, is the loot and money. People can treat Miranda however they like so long as they don't get in the way too much, but threatening to touch her loot and stuff that belongs to her is crossing a line. That can't be excused at all by suspicions.
>>

that would have booted us out of the outpost from the get go or would have forced us to take it out.

>>
>>3703730
the full warlord armor would have covered our face(and probably modulated our voice), and there is a vast difference from intimidation B and intimidation A. Having the whole world scared of us isn't the answer for all the problems.
>>
>>3703737
Fair enough, but I'm still salty about our loadout.
>>
I still don't get why everyone is upset about the loot from a bunch of raiders. But i do admit to be interested in the seither pellet gun

>>3703722
I'm not talking about respect, anon. I'm talking about not freaking out over every single little setback like it's proof that they're going to try to steal from us, murder us and leave our body in a shallow ditch. Like, holy shit, people have been screeching about this since we've arrived. Can we please have one betrayal in this quest that hasn't been overplanned for so we can sort of enjoy it from a story perspective when it happens? Because that would be great.
>>
>>3703761

>>3703868
He has enough augs to look like one. Or at least like someone that is heavily modded. His weird behaviour and Seither knowledge which some of the scappres commented make it look like he has previous knowledge of it and some of the androids were built with the ability to use seither.

>>3703840
I would like to but i don't think we have a oportunity to do so. Maybe when we go to repair the walker we can ask him since they will probably put someone to keep a eye on us.

I think he's that '14-5' runaway.

>>3703895
Oh, that missing android from the facility. Yeah, if we get the chance it might be neat to talk to him and see if he is who we think he is.
Conservation of detail suggests he is, but real life suggests pretty slim odds with us having so little to go on.
>>
>>3704098
>but real life suggests pretty slim odds with us having so little to go on.
Except, you know, this isn't real life. We know this is mainly a story which follows certain points (I mean, we already joked who was the MC of this world) and as it concerns to miranda it ain't real life for her as well. Her 80+ years of working in these environments give her an unfair advantage against everyone that is in a new universe, thus we and miranda can assume with a big degree of certainty that the blue eyed dude that is working with these scrappers is the android that broke from the basement.

Well, let's throw some ideas in the downtime. Should we take off some of our Clothes and adjust our stats? Currently, they are:
Intimidation C
Humor D+
Otherworldly C
Hothead C
Plainness B-
If we take off our Big n' Proper Bowtie (Plainness +2 / Humor +1 / Intimidation -3), then we'll have Plainnes C and Intimidation B. Still plain enough, but at least people would take us more seriously (with all pros and cons).
>>
>>3706401
That actually sounds like a pretty useful idea if we ever end up in a situation where we want to suddenly look much more serious. In fact, loosening up or taking off ties is usually a sign of when a character is readying for a serious fight.
>>
>>3706401
That's a nice idea, BUT given how the clothing system works(i think that if we take away a piece of clothing the bonus is taken away for the rest of the mission), i think we would be better by taking out glasses off first and scaring them into thinking we have a seither overload.
>>
>>3703636
You’re getting kinda annoyed by how Crash is talking at you, but you tamp down the frustration and try to dig into your more logical side as you approach the working trio. “He said for me to help unload, so…”

“Yeah, yeah,” one of them waves off. “Plenty to go around. Not as much as we WANTED, but…”

“Problem solved itself,” the second grunts as he prepares to unload another box. You notice that there are large crates going around with labels on them- seems like everything is indeed split apart right here and taken to where it’s needed. “Don’t worry about it.”

The first shrugs. “I’m not! Just sayin’...if the Deadlanders decided to fuck us over, we’re gonna start hurtin’ in not too long.”

“No shit. Would’ve been hurtin’ now if half those asshole had gotten luckier than they did.” Wait, did they not see you? “Sloan was one of the good ones. He’ll be missed.”

“Yeah,” the third pipes up, his voice noticeably younger. “He was kinda a jerk, but he meant well. Gonna miss ‘im. Say, though.” And here he turns to you. “You were right there, and then you threw that flashbang. Where’d you go afterwards?”

“Wasn’t she up near all the fightin’?” the second asks.

You frown. Okay, well, you WERE invisible for a bit, fair enough. “I managed to climb up there and take them by surprise. You didn’t see?”

The three of them look at each other briefly...before breaking out into snickering laughter. “Hell no. Are you kiddin’ me?” The first asks. “The hell would you do that for?”

“I mean, yeah, the flash likely helped, but that isn’t exactly the same as wasting a group of Outlanders,” the second says. “If you’re tryin’ to build up cred, then you might wanna stick to something a bit more believable.”

Damnit. “Well, you can believe me or not, but I DID do most of the work,” you insist. “I just want a reward for it. Like, there was a gun I saw in there,” you say, pointing to the specific crate. “Large pistol, thin barrel, strange canister on the back.”

Outlander Number 1 snorts briefly, and digs into the crate, rooting around for a moment; his large, sweaty arm and body makes you think of a metallic boar. After a few moments, he indeed pulls out the Seither pellet gun. “What, this? Whaddya want this for?”

(cont.)
>>
>>3706525

“To use it. I killed those people, if nothing else I deserve at least some of the spoils.” You’re not going to just let your work go unacknowledged, actual clients or not! “I’ll repeat it until I’m blue in the face, but-”

“Ahp, ahp, ahp,” he’s quick to dismiss your claims, but takes off his mask- scarred a bit on the cheeks, he is. Pockmarked with bad acne that never quite went away. “You want this that bad? Whatcha gonna do for it? Them’s the rules around here. Gotta earn your keep. You kin either do that, or mebbe we can trade for it, eh, kiddo?”

“Those glasses ARE pretty slick...” Number three says, more to himself than you.

“Kid, just forget it,” Number two says. “You’ll get a chance when everyone’s got a chance to claim. Just be patient.”

You’re getting rather tired of that.

>(i think that if we take away a piece of clothing the bonus is taken away for the rest of the mission)
That's not how it works. We've done this during the Mafia job and Lori's solo mission - we can put the clothes back on, it's just that people who saw us before would be confused about the change of their perception of us when we take them off.
So, as fun it is to see Miranda get bullied and watch how upset some anons get about it, I think it'll for the best to take off the Big'n'Proper Bowtie, so that people would take us more seriously.>>3706629 We had our B-ranked Intimidation on 3 out of 5 missions and it did not cause much trouble, and high Plainness isn't very useful at the moment - it's not like we're supposed to sneak around or blend in with the others.

>>3706532
On one hand, we collect weapons off rando's all the time and we could probably do with not getting this one, on the other hand, what if it shoots seither, like, just a POOF of mana to the target, in this setting like a enraging agent/anti-alien gun.
Could you imagine Miranda bringing that back to the intersection and dramatically popping Lorelei in the FACE?
That'd be hilarious!
Although she can already do that with harmonized magiblasts, should do it more, it's comic gold.
On the other hand it could just be a seither POWERED slug-muncher, and that's BORING.

Point out, once again, that we did most of the work on *their* op that *they* fucked up.

Sounds like they're going to be having problems later with these Deadlanders, and for a hot second there we were thinking of working with them on that problem before we had to drag their ass out of a mess here.

So, I thought slug-muncher was slang for a projectile firearm, but apparently it's something else. In case anyone got confused I meant a gun, if it's just a gun it's boring.

Sounds like it's a air soft like gun. But instead of using gas the gun use Seither in gas form. If that has any effect on aliens i have no idea.

“Tell you what,” you decide, your scowl a clear indicator of your dislike. This whole place is rubbing you the wrong way, now... “How about we play for it? I’ll arm wrestle you. Winner takes the weapon. Sound fair?”

To your surprise, for a moment he gives you a side eye, as though taking your challenge seriously. He even rubs his chin for a minute, mulling it over. “Mmmm...heh.” And at last he breaks out into a small grin. “Must have some muscle under there for a tyke, eh? Ha.” Going over to one of the smaller crates, he places the gun down in the center, then sets his arm down, a near sneer on his face. “Fine. But I’mma warn you now, kid- this ain’t all fat! Gotta be strong to survive out here.”

“Fine with me.” You’re kind of hoping you can just take the weapon and skip town- maybe get a word in with that one guy, but otherwise you’re getting tired of this place and their lack of respect. You place your admittedly small hand inside his sweaty mitt as you both lock eyes, the other two unloaders looking on in surprise- and maybe a bit of pity. “If someone would count us off…?”

“Uh, right,” guy number 1 says. “On go, then. Three...two...one...go!”

You don’t waste any time, and while the guy DOES have more strength than you anticipated, you simply shove his hand down, the meaty THWACK of impact timing perfectly with his gobsmacked look.

You already have the gun, have slipped it into your bag, and have walked off by the time he gets up, shouting. “HEY!” The other two aren’t far behind.

“‘Hey’ yourself!” A familiar voice yells out. You turn to see Pattycake, frowning, arms folded, and she glares at him. “Get back to work!” And then she turns to you. “Prometheus wants to see you ASAP.”

“That was quick,” you can’t help but comment.

“They’re not far- maybe down the hall,” Pattycake admits, tilting her head in that direction. “See what they want.” Nodding, you head down that way...but as you move to pass her, she puts a hand on your shoulder, and when you look up, she’s not looking at you. “Watch your ass,” she mutters, then shoves you lightly along.

Hm.

Sure enough, Crash and Prometheus are at the end of the hall. They both look at you with similar, yet different expressions. Crash looks at you with suspicion, laced with annoyance. Prometheus, on the other hand, he seems...curious, but eager like he’s found something new to use.
He hasn’t, but if he thinks that…

“Lane,” he says, and his voice is firm, yet inquisitive. “Crash told me you claimed to kill a number of Deadland clan members after they didn’t honor our deal.” You nod. “That’s an...impressive statement, you have to understand. I’m curious as to how that managed to happen. Although I do have a suspicion or two, and I hope we’ll have plenty of time to determine how true it is.”

(cont.)
>>
>>3710383
You cock an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”

“Well, all things considered, being front row to that kind of happenstance, not to mention knowing what kind of supplies we have, where our bay is, all that sort...see, if’n that were to get out to other clans, particularly to the wrong ones, well...that could cause some issues down the line.”

“Not that we’re not grateful about your...combat acumen. But I think I’d be correct in presuming that you don’t have much elsewhere to go, do you?” Crash states cooly, but accusingly.

“So, we’ve decided that instead of just letting you go, we’re inclined to offer you a place to stay with us,” Prometheus says, and he has the brass balls to sound sincere and pitying. “Permanently, you see. Would be a far better fate than just dying out in the sands without food or water.” The implication is clear, and though outwardly you remain calm, inwardly you’re bristling. These...absolute fuckers.

“Not to mention, I’m sure you’ll find a friend in Em. I’ve little doubt you’ve some common ground,” Crash says idly. “Your AICA will be useful too, I’m sure. Can put down roots here and everything.

...well. You can’t exactly out yourself to these dildos, but...hm. Is there any way to get out of this that isn’t extremely violent?

From these guys, yes. From other scavvers who knew them and dealt with them, no.

Bruh. I feel like you just want to kill people just out of spite or for fun instead of staying PROFESSIONAL.
>>
>>3710518
The time for professionalism is long gone, my friend. The extra dialogue wont save them now, unless they connect the dots and understand that they are dealing with someone very dangerous.
>>
>>3710518
This IS being professional. We have wasted far too much time doing this instead of our actual job! Why are we still even here? just for some dialogue? because if yes, I'm disappointed about the choice of people that the voters wanted dialogue and interaction from. I have seen literally nothing I liked from them, and I'm quite ready to leave to get back to our actual job as opposed to this needless distraction. That sounds far more entertaining to me when it's what I voted for the job, not this scrapper side-story thing.

Hell, we don't even have to kill people if that was the concern. I just want to get back the the company already. At least their reasons for potential future backstabbing are actually interesting to see since it involves studying the method to find a way to make humans of this world better adapted to seither, and not just this plain and simple greed from the scrappers.
>>
>>3710475
We do have a rather large AOE attack that would prevent such a need. I'd be willing to use it if it would guarantee they're not a problem anymore.
>>
>>3710538
>>3710537
>...well. You can’t exactly out yourself to these dildos, but...hm. Is there any way to get out of this that isn’t extremely violent?
The first option IS the violent option, since Miranda is answering her own question. If we go with it then we'll have to risk Jago and mecha's safety. If we go with the (Meditation) and convince them to let us out then we can repair the mech in peace and maybe even have time to talk wit Em.
And showing red eyes is still a no-no.
>>
>>3710549
True. If we wipe them all out, there wouldn't be any evidence left either, so nuking is a practical option.

In fact, it might be the better option since these scrappers just might tell others of us if they try to exchange info to survive other clans coming after them or something.
>>
>>3710549
And spend that much mana? No thanks. We got a chance to leave without spending any, I'd rather take that then have to waste mana and ammo and risk damage to a teammate that can't naturally heal and our transport out of here.
>>
>>3710554
>>3710558

>>
>>3710554
I would agree with you, but >>3710538 makes a damn good point. we are already a day behind schedule and Aegis probably is antsy because they might believe that we stole their tech. I also voted for the Other option to tell them that they are making a very stupid mistake.

>>3710561
dude, shut up that point is irrelevant. we literally gain mana from being in these canyons, we even won 1300 mana from being near the seither filters, we'll probably instantly refill from being near a crystal or such. We are also in this position because we didn't want to use the nebula buster before.
>>
>>3710561
>If we go with it then we'll have to risk Jago and mecha's safety.
Who says we'd nuke right here and now as opposed to getting Jago and the mech out first, and THEN coming back to nuke them?

Besides, we don't intend to spend much mana on this job at most of the time due to not using spells when possible, and there are very fast ways to recharge anyways with the seither generators around.

>>3710572
I'm not trying to blow off steam. Hell I don't even care for these people enough to see the dead or alive. It's just that since they're a potential security leak, we might want to do this safely via extermination of all witnesses.
>>
>>3710575
>we are already a day behind schedule
And how does going ballistic would help us with getting back faster? We'll have to spend even more time cleaning up the base, rescuing Jago, securing the mech and disabling the AA Seither cannon! When we can just go with Social Bonus option and walk out quietly without the risk of wasting resources and time.
I've already refuted that anon's point - if we go with the first option, then Miranda's line of thought goes:
"Is there any way to get out of this that isn’t extremely violent? - Mmm...nope."
>>
>>3710590
In other words, going against them would mean that we'll have to spend more time here and we'll get to our client's base only around Monday.
>>
>>3710575
Dude, we didn't, and we don't, and the crystals are too dangerous to try if we got jacked up on the gas in the reactor. I don't want to find out how bad the crystals will fuck us up.

Also, dude, the Buster would have been noticed by Aegis' sensors, and would cause them to basically try to kidnap us to figure out how we can bust.

It's like the other guy said, first choice is loud, second one is quiet, and I'm always going to go for the option that preserves the most of our resources and keeps us from being damaged or drained.
>>
>>3710590
>When we can just go with Social Bonus option and walk out quietly without the risk of wasting resources and time.
>>3710595
What I don't see is how you think staying quiet and talking to them would result in LESS time compared to just getting out of here now.

In fact, with how many times the talking options has been tried, and failed, consecutively even, it's hard to believe more talking could possibly do anything useful as opposed to wasting more time.
>>
>>3710580
>extermination of all witnesses.
...why? It's not like they have a huge network that'll inform everyone else that we were there - Scrapers are mistrustful and isolationistic, and if we start causing trouble for other Clans in our unique mech then they wouldn't want to associate with us and deny any acusations that we've ever visited them in order to keep their trade deals.
>>
>>3710388
>>Mmm...nope. Might as well get started on that whole front. Going to need to get Jago and get the mech revved up…
They've given us nothing but grief while we've been civil, and more importantly they're a security risk.
>>
>>3710595
>>3710590
not really. we just make a straight line to the AA gun, kill whoever tries to stop us, destoy the AA gun, get on the mech and nuke them with a nebula buster.
Its really easy and shouldn't take that much.
Also so far, choosing the non magical solutions(in general not just this mission) have sidetracked us in bad ways. I have no reason to believe this will be any different.

>>3710608
>I'm always going to go for the option that preserves the most of our resources and keeps us from being damaged or drained.
ok, here is the problem with that: we can heal ourselves in different ways and although the world's mana output is low, there are pockets like this very canyon where the mana regeneration is absurdly high. Its foolish to say that we will be drained, when in the other thread was demonstrated that that isn't the case.
>Also, dude, the Buster would have been noticed by Aegis' sensors, and would cause them to basically try to kidnap us to figure out how we can bust.
They have no idea that it could have been us.
>>
>>3710609
>What I don't see is how you think staying quiet and talking to them would result in LESS time compared to just getting out of here now.
No, the 'get out now' option is to force their hand and then we'll have to spend time on:
-killing everyone we see
-rescuing Jago
-seciring the mech
-dealing with the Seither cannon
-fighting the chasers
And our mech is STILL damaged and has no missiles in case we encounter anyone else on our way back.
The quiet option goes:
-talk them down
-repair mech
-talk with Em (optional)
-wave goodbye and skedaddle
This is MUCH less riskier and more professional in my opinion.
>>
>>3710613
They are not a security risk, see >>3710612
>>
>>3710624
Either option leaves us without missiles and you are assuming that they will let us go with the meditate option. Once you begin to plead like that, it becomes very clear to the other faction that you don't really have any way to defend yourself.
>>
>>3710622
You're still not convincing me that being diplomatic for about ten seconds is worse then wasting mana, risking damage to the mech and injury to us and our partners, and causing people to wonder about that big sparkly mushroom cloud over where the seither cannon guys are. Fact is, you probably won't.

Dude.
>>
>>3710640
They know that we're good at combat, and the meditation option is not pleading. If there was no chance of them letting us go, then Handler wouldn't have highlighted the second option in the first place. Otherwise, I would've supported your >Other option.
>>
>>3710624
the "quiet" option will at best leave us in an extended tense situation while the mech is repaired. I wouldn't put it past them to cause more delays to encourage us to stay, or to get more work out of us. Words have not worked with them so far.
>>
>>3710388
>(Meditation) You have to insist on being let out. Forcing you to stay would make you little better than the megacorporations and cities they hate. You're just a young girl- not like anyone would believe you anyway.
Could we just leave without spending the next two IRL days fighting these assholes, guys? Jesus.
>>
>>3710655
And would the outvome of your >Other option be any different? You don't even give my arguments a benefit of the doubt and instantly assuming that they can't be convinced at all when OP highlights the option.
>>
>>3710647
if you bother to look at my vote, i went for a diplomatic option. The only difference is that i'm making them see that we are not one to be messed with. And i'm arguing in favor of killing the clan because i'm 90% sure that it will be the way this will end. Look at it from the clan's perspective: We are only one, and even if we are a good fighter, the clan are many more, and one will eventually kill us, and when they manage to kill us, they'll get a mech that they desperately need to defend themselves better and an AICA that they can reprogram to fit their needs. No one in their right of mind would let that opportunity pass away.Dude.

>>3710653
the meditation option IS pleading to their morals, which i don't think they have since they really want us to stay.
>If there was no chance of them letting us go, then Handler wouldn't have highlighted the second option in the first place.
If i were handler i'd put that option because it makes sense, not because it would have the desired results. Maybe it does let us go, but like i said before, the non magical options have had sidetracked us before(and are the reason why we are here in the first place) and i doubt these assholes will let us go. They just simply lose too much to be worth it.
>>
>>3710664

I know we're all green in here, but try again anon.
>You don't even give my arguments a benefit of the doubt
Can you claim any better? Of course you can. anyone that disagrees is just ignorant and stupid.
>>
>>3710669
Dude, if they had no morals, they would've tried to kill us on the first day. Yet that did not happen. They are trying to negotiate with us, albeit in their own crooked way. We can work this out with words, no need to jump the gun first.
>>
>>3710672
I mean, we can leave guns blazing, but I don't want to risk the damage if we have the option to talk it out.
>>
>>3710682
morals =/= pragmatism. They didn't kill us because it was easier to work with us, and if they played their cards right (like they're trying right now) they might get all our stuff without having to fight an unknown.

>>3710689
I'd rather have it out now, rather than have to deal with the stress of waiting to be jumped for the remainder of our time here. It's not like we can't heal, and we're not paying for mech repairs.
>>
>>3710682
Except that this is no negotiation because they are very unwilling to keep their part of the deal since the moment they threw us in this caravan mission.

That's irrelevant and metagaming. Sometimes there is no option other than to fight your way out of a problem.
>>
>>3714805
If they wanted the mech they would just shoot us when we came out of the mech. Right now I think they know something is wrong about us and are trying to use the diplomatic approach to recruit us. Think about it, a random girl came out of nowhere with a great mech, survived an ambush, and has a fully functioning AI bot. We have so much equipment that they could realize we are part of a corp and back off from a fight that is above them.
>>
>>3714845
I think it might have something to do with this particular mission, honestly. Our high plainness is kinda screwing with how seriously our employers and NPCs are taking us, so people want to make certain that they don’t do the expected megacorp/cyberpunk plan of betraying the hired help by overcompensating with aggressiveness. It’ll hopefully cool down on the next mission when we remember how high plainness worked against us the next time we get equipped.
>>
>>3714869
That's a good point, although i believe they haven't done any of the stuff that you wrote because they see us as an easy to manipulate kid and even though they are scrappers, they still have some sort of heart under all the dirt they have.
>>
>>3714869
I figure they are smart enough to realize there's more to this little girl than appears, as she's got some serious hardware. They didn't attack us initially due to wariness, with the plan to feel us out and see if we were a soft enough target to take.

By the same token, that high end hardware indicates we are either powerful or have connections, so I doubt the recruitment offer is legit, as in either case we can obviously take care of ourselves.
>>
>>3714805
Exactly this.

>>3714825
>What kind of QM creates two different options with the same intended outcome?

The kind that's told us in-quest what kind of people Scrappers were, showed us how they acted, gave us every hint to what they've aiming to do with us, and has thus far made every attempt to treat them with patience and negotiation failures in what the voters wanted.

Wake up people. How many times does Handler have to do this until you finally understand that the only way out of this place is to either using force and destroying whatever is in our way, or agreeing to stay and be their bitch for however long these people want us, and risking the actual job we were sent to this dimension for in the first place?

I mean sure, if people want their dialogues and roleplay as a submissive scrapper for god know how many more threads, I guess that's just the way that's going to be. But if not, then we should move the fuck on already and GTFO of this place ASAP.
>>
>>3714885
So if they have a heart, that means they will have morals that they follow. Meaning that the meditation option will work and they will let us go on our way. As we leave we could pull a Lorelei and say "there is no home for us." while taking off our shades showing off our eyes.

>>3714882
We could go full vanilla and see how our base stats affect the next mission. We always ended up with a high trait that made problems with too much intimidation, otherworldly, or plainness. While the first mission with the flower girls I think went okay enough.
>>
>>3714953
>So if they have a heart, that means they will have morals that they follow
On the other hand, a mech that can help your clan be better defended is worth the life of a girl you literally met yesterday and maybe one or two more that could possibly get injured if things get rough. Although, its better for everyone involved if she decides to stay on her own free will.

>While the first mission with the flower girls I think went okay enough.
the flower scouts was literally the tutorial and the quest started at the end of the mission. A more proper example would be the other mission with the lunar Illuminati or the one on the westworld. They went very well.
>>
>>3714953
The only thing i'm against about going full vanilla is that we would leave our cool shoes behind. But maybe now that we have the flying crystal from Owlia we can abadong the wings and just uae the mana condencer.
>>
>>3714882
>It’ll hopefully cool down on the next mission when we remember how high plainness worked against us the next time we get equipped.
Miranda doesn't like the way they're treating her but I'm personally enjoying it and the way she reacts to it. The only time I've felt it has worked against us was when we didn't get to fight somebody stronger in the ring.
But I don't like the idea of doing two missions in a row with the same stats so I'll probably be voting for some kind of high Hothead - low Plainness/Otherworldly getup next time.
>>
>>3714978
>On the other hand, a mech that can help your clan be better defended is worth the life of a girl you literally met yesterday and maybe one or two more that could possibly get injured if things get rough.

I have something to say about that. Couldn't they just scrap the walkers we trashed on the canion? I recall two walkers got fried thanks to the anti-air gun powered by seither and a lot of others that got well scrapped. They should have enough parts to build at least ONE walker for themselfs.
>>
>>3714911
Have you ever considered that by yelling about how these guys are going to screw us over ad nauseam, you’ve shot yourself in the foot by annoying people enough to not vote for what you’ve advocated for?

I mean, I wouldn’t go with your choice now, even if you were right, just because you kept typing “THEY GONNA BETRAY US, THEY GONNA BETRAY US” over and over again. It’s exhausting to read, annoying as hell, and all it did for me was make me vote for the opposite choice. And even if you were right and I was wrong, and we’re going to be ambushed, I’d still blame you, because you told us about it in the most obnoxious way possible as often as possible. So even if you guessed correctly about the scrappers being untrustworthy, that’s a fuck up on your part, because you failed to convince other people to go with what you wanted to do.

Maybe you should think about that next time we have a vote, and you want to convince people to agree with you. Or better yet, don’t complain about how everyone who didn’t choose what you voted for is going to ruin everything. Just a suggestion.

All my Yes! I'm not sure why people think dragging out this side-quest for this long is acceptable when we're on a job already! I mean, if we were given free reign on time and were expected to be back a long time from now then I'd not be so worried. But the mission location wasn't that far, so our return should've been expected at least a day ago even if we were being very cautious about preparations or something. Every day that goes by here is another day that we're not just disappointing our clients, but giving them the suspicion that we're taking the mech for our pay prematurely, as Scrappers would seem to do in this world, and worse of all reducing their confidence in our use as an agent and look more use as a test subject.
>>
>>3715077
that's worse, because Aegis won't know if we really escaped or we snitched something. if we were to tell them a lie it would be better to say that we hid on the canyon until it was safe and we were sure that the mech wouldn't break down on the way back. Basically we would omit the contact with the scrappers.

>>

That is a valid reason for us to use. I just hope our paycheck does not get cut due to sensor damage on the mech, and being late to come back to the base.

If we do get a cut from being late, we should have a good enough portion given back to us if we show that doctor we talked to the data, not to mention how much we could receive for the androids, should we feel like turning them over.

Unless such things are stipulated in the contract, they better not try. They'll get themselves in real hot water if they attempt to short the Intersection.

“...” You don’t like this. You don’t like this at all. BUT. You’ll at least do them the last kindness of trying to convince them otherwise, as you take a silent, but deep breath. Sometimes, you just need to hit upon the right notes to make someone sing to your tune. “I’m sorry, but I have to insist on leaving. I’m someone that values my freedom to do as I please, and I worry about if you were to force me to stay.”

“I can assure you you’ll be treated as one of our own…” Prometheus starts, but you interrupt him.

“And yet it’d still be a gilded cage to me. Don’t you think that this kind of coercion wouldn’t be any better than someone like, say, all those corporations that sucker people into horrible contracts? The kind of stuff you fight against?”

THAT gets a reaction out of the both of them. Several, in fact, as you can see anger, confusion, thoughtfulness, all of that war on their faces for what to express first, all in a second or two. Crash seems to be leaning more towards anger, though, while Prometheus seems to have settled more on disgruntled acceptance. “You sayin’ we’re just like them?” Crash’s tone has a hard edge to it, like he’s daring you to affirm it.

“I’m saying this is an opportunity to show that you ARE better, to everyone that follows you,” you correct. You’re not even sure how you managed that line, but it’s a nice one. “To show everyone why they follow you out of respect and not just fear.”

“Look, kid, this is the kind of opportunity for a runt like you to-” he’s stopped by his superior placing a hand on his chest, however, and he looks to Prometheus with an incredulous look on his face.

The man himself is frowning, like he just got caught in a trap that he saw coming but still couldn’t get out of. You don’t think it’s THAT watertight, but it seems to affect him, at least. His eyes flit away from yours, thinking...and then he takes a deep breath, a bit of a groan leaving him as he finally refocuses onto you.

“Fine. As we said, then. Get any repairs done you need and be gone before the sun dips.”

FINALLY. You’ll need to fetch Jago, and catch up with Prima, anyway...

“Good stuff,” Jago says after he gets the news. “Honestly, they’re a fair lot, but I’m itchin’ ta get back to brass tacks, yeah?”

“Don’t blame you,” you agree as you walk back out into the early afternoon sun. You’re not exactly expecting to get a bunch done with the limited tools you have, not to mention limited knowledge, but you can at least see if anything needs sticking back together, tightening, or anything of that sort and prooobably do it. Either that or Jago can help with it.

You’re quick to shoo off the lingering Scrappers around your ride- damn magpies, they are. “Out! Out out out!” you bark, and they fortunately scatter, though not without giving you some rude looks. Whatever. “Alright, popping the hatch!” Hopefully Prima would get the hint. At the least, she’s nowhere to be seen as it opens, but you don’t want to risk it and hop straight in, Jago in after you quickly, and you close the hatch just as fast. “Finally,” you admit. “Oddly enough, I kinda missed- GAH!”

That was Prima, nearly tackling you out of the seat, and looking at you with something approaching panic and relief (huh, you’re getting better at telling her expressions, you think). “Thank goodness you’re back! I was- they were all around me in the dark and poking and saying things, and it was MOST unsettling, but you’re back now! Yay!” She claps twice in her joy, and looks at you with squinted, cheerful eyes. “This means we can leave now, correct?”

You frown slightly- it’s clear she’s not really keen on staying much longer. “Well...we need to perform a systems check, but that’s the intent-”

“All internal systems are performing at acceptable parameters, save for communications,” she immediately rattles off. “I took the liberty of performing a systems check during a brief window of time when there were no observable lifesigns in the area. Radar, synaptic response systems, and firing adjustments are all at 80 to 100% efficiency. Audio reception and general communications have been severely damaged, however…” she looks askance at that, as though ashamed she couldn’t fix them, but then shakes it off. “Seither has been vented carefully, and exterior damage was fortunately limited to several loose panels near the right pauldron and left leg, and a few minor hull breaches, although I have determined that there is little concern in leaving them for now, considering the availability of up to date repair facilities-”

“We’ve got enough to put some temporary repairs on things, we’ll do that and get out of here, I promise,” you assure her. “I don’t want sand or anything getting into anything delicate where it shouldn’t. Don’t worry, we’ll be quick.”

Prima seems to deflate at that, but nods. “...oh. As you say, then. I’ll resume hiding.”

Poor girl. Even Jago is looking at her like- “Oy.” Speak of the devil. “Room fer two? I kin do without this lot for a bit. Lass, ya kin take care o' some quick patchin’ up yourself, yeah?”

(cont)
>>
>>3715905
...well, that’s nice of him. “Sure.” Helps the facade, anyway. Popping the hatch again, you leap out, hitting the ground. You’ve got some kinda sealant here, a few metal plates that should hold up... might as well get to work.

The work isn’t all that complicated...find the places that aren’t sealed up, and patch the stuff over them. There’s a couple small gashes here and there, alright. They’re riiight near the joints, and that’s never good to let lie.

It’s after you’ve finished that up and clamber back down to the ground that you notice, if only out the corner of your eye and thanks to the small dirt scratching noise that resulted, that someone’s watching you. And judging by the pasty body and blue eyes...well, no points for guessing.

He’s startled, but doesn’t say anything, rather seeming to wait to see how you’ll react.

Hm. So, he got interested enough to come out his hidey-hole, huh? You decide to stop briefly, turning to look at him. You’re not going to run him off- nothing here that he can really ID, you think...at least, not superficially. And if he COULD scan the thing somehow, he had all the opportunity already. It’s no more risk than you’ve already ran. “If you want to get a closer look at the thing, then might as well. May never see it again.”

He seems to flinch briefly at being called out, and for a few seconds you think he’s not going to take you up on your offer...but he eventually does, practically tiptoeing. Geez, he looks like he’d get sunburn if he stayed out more than a half hour in the sun like this. His eyes are no less vibrant, however, with something beneath them that’s at least a bit more interested than earlier when you met. He’s still keeping said eyes off you, though, as though connecting with your own would shatter his already frail courage. “H-hi...”

Mhm. If you want to make conversation with this guy, you’re most definitely going to have to take the lead, here.

It's genuine difference in quality. You know those restaurants that have GOOD tomatoes? They probably got it covered in-house. “Ah…” he looks away briefly, before nodding in agreement...you think. “Still confused. I...woke up badly. Not sure of...anything.” Hey, more words from him. Good. “They found me. Are helping me live. Remembering things, little by little. They like me building things. I...know things. Don’t know how I know, but I know…”

“This spark anything?” you find yourself asking, as you motion to the mecha, moving around to the leg to continue your work. “I mean, honestly? I'm kinda surprised this got them so interested. Those Orion walkers I trashed in the canyon could be easily scavenged if you have someone who knows how to use them. Lots of repair involved when dealing with these machines." You find one of the panels in question and set to refitting it, almost as example.

Although when you finish and turn back to him, you find him turned around, looking in the distance “...T-there’s more?”

“...yeaaah. Two of them,” you mention as you wave your hand in the general direction. “I know they went down somewhere over there. Not horribly far from here, in fact. Baffles me why they didn’t just go after those.”

“...ah. Thank you.” he says quietly.

“Not a problem,” you accept, as you continue your work.

“Maybe...my past is...I’ve felt like it’s tied to Walkers. But...hm...” He seems deep in thought, as he looks in that direction. In fact, he doesn’t speak at all throughout your repairs. All too quickly (or not) you finish up, and he’s still looking.

After a good 30 seconds of him just staring off into space, you find yourself feeling slightly awkward and annoyed. “You still there?”

He shakes briefly, head swiveling to you with wide eyes. “Hm!?”

“I mean, if you’re going to go, then go.” You wave your hand in the general direction. “You won’t get any answers staying here and cowering in generator rooms.”

He seems to be surprised at this, looking away and running his hand through his (limited) hair. “Ah...er, well. If you think so…I...”

“Just go,” you say after climbing up most of the way. “What’s worse? Learning something uncomfortable that you can eventually move past, or not knowing and wondering forever? I discovered something interesting recently, for example. A name. Possibly two.” He looks curious, though his head slowly cranes to you. “Does 'Lawrence G.' or 'Fourteen-dash-five’' ring any bells?"

There’s a moment where he freezes; his eyes don’t literally light up, but it’s very clear that there’s a bit more...well, a bit more life to him, as he looks out in the direction where you indicated the wreckages were- even taking a step or two. “Lawrence…? Fourteen-dash-five?” He’s blinking hard now. Good enough.

Hopping into the cockpit without waiting for an answer, you shut the hatch as Jago takes his position. “Let’s get out of here.”

As you take off, he’s looking in the same direction, just as intently, but you turn around, and blast away, putting it out of your mind, and instead focusing on more important issues. After all…

“...you’re late.” Yeah, that. Crane isn’t happy, but if nothing else he doesn’t seem like he’s furious. “And it seems your efforts have resulted in some notoriety on your part.”

You simply nod in understanding. “Apologies, sir.”

“Mm. Well, if I’m being honest, it WAS anticipated that you’d be noticed at some point. So long as your actions are not traced back to us, then we’ll consider it acceptable general behavior. However, your delay has impacted our own timetable. But, I’ll get to that shortly.” He holds out his hand. “The data?”

“Right here,” you say as you hand him the drive. He nods in satisfaction, but is surprised when you hand over several sheets of paper. “I also have a bit more; deep-scanned telemetry and other data from a few experiments that were still active under there. If you’ve got a spare data cable, then I can-”

“We’ll see to it soon enough,” he interrupts. “For now, follow me.” He turns, and you do. You find yourself eventually walking through a few familiar halls...going to the briefing room this time, then? “Now, thanks to your...detour, we’re behind on schedule for both our priority research as well as one or two...side issues. I’m tempted to argue such issues are worth a paycut. However!” And here he turns around to you with a slightly-too-wide smile as you both stop in front of Briefing Room C-5. “Fortunately for you, dear girl, you have options!”

You raise an eyebrow. “Options?”

“Yes, options!” And here he opens the door, revealing none other than Avos, that pink haired large girl who’s name you never got, and Komodo. “Option 1: You go along with these three on a job- tonight. As ground support. Help them out well enough, we’ll consider everything square.”

“And Option 2?” you ask, though you have a hunch.

He shrugs. “We cut your pay by 15%.” Fuck.

“Some sort of large, strange creature has been located outside our territory to the east. Suspected alien,” Avos explains. “Peacock may be on site to acquire, as it’s near an outpost of theirs. The land itself is unclaimed, but the doctors want to get it under their microscopes, and keep it out of Peacock’s hands. We’re being sent in to bag the beast, and eliminate any rival forces in the area.”

“It’ll be fine,” Crane assures. “Your task would be preventing ground forces from fire support when we show up, and possibly a bit of, shall we say, corporate sabotage.” He smirks. Of course, we can understand if you’re a bit exhausted, so perhaps instead, you could...hm.” He pauses, looking thoughtful. “Well, no, nevermind, that’s a gross invasion of your privacy. Forget it.” He looks away, awaiting your decision as the three in the room look on in confusion.

“Oy, you’re gonna keep us hangin’ loike that?” Jago complains, folding his arms. “Out wit it, what’s option three?”

This seems to be the desired reaction, as he turns back to you. “Well, I must admit, your...nature is fascinating. We’d like to run a few... tests, you see. Obtain some samples, that sort of thing.”

“Nature?” the girl says confusedly.

Our "lateness" was due to reluctance to damage their mech, so I hardly think we deserve a 15% paycut for that.
>>

I think they would consider the fact that we even needed to delay to further prevent more damage a failure on our part to perform adequately and not need the repair and delay in the first place.

everything would have been fixed by a nebula buster.

Its a megacorporation; they are always looking ways to pay less. Remember that they are still planning to kill us instead of paying us.

At least now that we are giving ground support we can show how deadly we are without a walker.
>>

“I’ll take the first option, please and thanks,” you decide quickly. You’re not one to risk anything like giving them BLOOD, or worse.

He chuckles. “I can’t say I expected otherwise. You won’t be having a Walker for this one, as obviously yours is...in for repairs. But, not to worry. You’ll be outfitted with the best anti-personnel armor money can research! Now, if you’ll step inside?” You do so, and the door closes behind you.

“Now, we’ll catch you up quickly, since we’re already in a rush. The creature is none of your concern. What you’re going to be worried about is Peacock and their rather annoying anti-Walker vehicles and weaponry.” He presses a button a few times on the table, jumping through a few digital slides and eventually landing on a digital representation of the area- it’s largely empty, save for some rock outcroppings, and off to the left, a three-floor outpost- a rough box shaped tower, surrounded by a fence. Once we get onto the scene, they’re probably going to be out in force. Your task, along with the other ground forces, are to occupy their support systems, in principle...but you, in particular, I want to get inside the outpost to see what they might know. Unfortunately, we’re very limited on information of what’s inside, so you’ll be a bit blind. Any questions?”

It sounds like we're going to have to infiltrate the place and clear it of mercs, then stay inside the place and defend it from reinforcements. We're going to need something better then a pistol to start the mission with.

Exactly. This is a world without magic, thus, to not have Aegis try to force us to give them our blood or skin tissue, we should avoid using it.

>And we can sneak take the enemy SMG and use it against then. It's like you never played a infiltration game were you took the weapons of the donwed guards.
That's because I'm not going by videogame logic, anon. A spy or merc would use either what they have, or what was assigned to them, and since we only have a pistol and a seither pellet gun, we should ask them if we can get more effective gear for them mission.

“No. I’m fine.” Seems basic enough, for the most part. “Where would I go to prepare?”

“You’ll be at the tender mercies of Kine for that, but not to worry, he’s rather good at this!” Crane assures. “You’ll be meeting with him right after we’re done here, which will be soon.”

You nod in understanding. The remainder of the meeting then mostly consists of intel for the three pilots, discussing possible Walker types they’ll be going up against, as well as what they’ve gotten on the unidentified figure. The pink-haired lady seems nervous, and you finally learned the name of her: Mil. She seems like a surprisingly gentle sort, judging by her expressions and stated concerns about damage. Komodo just nods, hardly worrying aside from asking about weakpoints of the beast and general preferences for ammo.

Avos doesn’t say a further word all briefing.

Soon enough, however, you’re all released, and that means you need to get to Kine for your gear. The doorway to the armory is blocked by his massive frame, and he’s first to speak. “Chose the first option, then?” You nod. “Good. I’ve been ‘requested’ to give you your pick from three pre-determined sets of gear.”

>Infiltrator. This comes with adjustable camo functionality, allowing the user to reactively adjust certain spots on their armor with camo patterns resembling the surrounding area. It also comes with a silenced submachine gun and an ‘aural disruption lure’, which apparently can throw off an individual’s sense of balance and muffle their hearing without them noticing for a limited time.

>Standard. The same stuff you saw the guards wear when you first came here. Includes standard anti-personnel armor and an assault rifle, along with three ‘heavy fragmentation’ grenades. Simple and effective, all things considered.

>Heavy Duty. This is triple-scored full body armor plating, and includes a portable shield and heavy machine gun with armor-piercing rounds. Meant to be for holding objectives and mowing down enemies, but for most humans, not much mobility. Loud as hell, too.

“I’ve also been told to inform you that you don’t have to pick anything, although why you wouldn’t is beyond me,” he adds on.

If this was a video game with saves I'd choose infiltrator for fun. But realistically when we don't need to infiltrate and just need to get in there somehow, then maximum firepower and armor works the best for getting into fights that we probably can't avoid even when using stealth anyways. Because the one thing that questing has taught me is that you don't want to rely on dice for stealth, ever.

Honestly, I don't even have a clue what our Ribbon Wings turned into.
>>
>>3722821
The first time we wore them, we were in the Summoning World working with Lyme dis- er, Lysan, the student mage with the Inquisitor sister. There, the ribbon wings turned into fairy style wings, but they only allowed us to glide.

The second time we wore them we were in that fantasy realm working with Izumi. There they were a pair of batlike leathery wings, and we could glide on thermals.

Did we bring the wings or was that left back at HQ? If we don't have the wings, how about a light barrier to carry us up in the sky. Since no one expects a drop pod raining down our their position. If there is no time we can just slowly approach, megaphone, and start shooting everything.

Actually, we can. Admittedly, it's been a while since we used it, but back in Thread #6...

>Ugh. This guy’s starting to get annoying. And frankly, talking over everyone else is just rude. Then again, you can do it too. ...And actually, thinking about it, that might be the best way to give Sorina a helping hand.

>Inflicting spells on others isn't as easy as some people might want to believe it is. Especially in cases where the spell was primarily intended only for the user. However, you found it very very useful to be able to cast I still like this on a distant person at will. It was good for situations like this, and in cases where sometimes a well-timed Megaphone could completely ruin somebody's whispered plans.

>In this case, however…

>“THE WILL OF ORIND?” Sorina yells- and then pauses briefly as she realizes how loud her voice has gotten. She shakes it off, however, and continues, realizing her new boon.

Regardless, I was joking about using megaphone on all the guards. Maybe just one or two of them could be a good distraction, as well as a laugh.

>Did we bring the wings or was that left back at HQ?

We have been practicing using the light barriers as a platform, albeit they're non-moving ones. Plus, I'm pretty sure that they cast light.

The transform into something that fits with the whole aesthetic we want to have.
>>
>>3722925
We also have a Flight Crystal, which would produce much less noise than running in heavy armor.
>>
>>3722936
Yup we do have a levitation(flight?) crystal so we could go high above the base. Either glide down with the wings all quiet like. Or drop pod on the base using leg channeling and body shield on our legs for a safer landing. Or run using the plate. So there is three plans that we could go for, which one would help our situation the best?
>>
>>3722983
Problem: If we're using the Heavy Duty armor, wouldn't we have to take off our current armor with the jets?
>>
>>3722983
Oh right, it was called Levitation Crystal. Maybe we could use it together with the Vanishing Plate?
Our Wings turned into thrusters though, so I don't think gliding is possible.
>>
>>3722998
Yeah we would not be able to use the wings since the heavy armor will block them. We can slowly move down using the crystal but it has a fixed speed for movement.

>>3723004
If we can recharge the plate we can use it to cover our approach. Yeah gliding will be blocked from using the armor. So its either walk with the plate, drop pod using the crystal and plate, or scrap all the plans and build another one. What do you guys think?
>>
>>3723004
Forgot to add this but yeah gliding has been lost for this mission.
>>

Good evening.

“I’ll take the Heavy Duty gear,” you decide. Ideally, it wouldn’t get too uncomfortable, but the changing of outfit would cause some...differences, no doubt. “Seems like the best for the purposes of the mission.”

He nods, and silently goes into the back to see to your outfit. Not long afterwards, however, both Jago and Prima get your attention- you hadn’t noticed them wander off briefly, actually. Probably should’ve, at least. “Ey, we comin’ wit’ you on this little outin’?” Jago asks. “Was kinda hopin’ ta get a bit more action meself.”

Prima nods in agreement. “I feel as though...well...perhaps it would be good to acclimate further to this type of combat.”

Ah. Fair point. You could probably make a statement for one or even both of them, if you felt like it…

>Bring them both. More the merrier, and more eyes...optics...to watch your back.

It doesn’t take you long to decide. “Sure, why not? Would be glad to have you watching my back. I’d just need to convince the bosses...”

Shortly after that, he comes back out, with a helmet adorned with goggles, a large, unisex torso covering (even up to the arms), pants, and boots cradled in one arm. In the other is a large machinegun. Strapped to his back is a shield nearly as tall as he is, meaning it’s nearly twice your height. “Here’s your gear. You can change in your quarters. As for your weapon? It’ll be given to you on deployment, but I figured you’d want a good look at it first.” As you take your clothing, he lifts up the machine gun in question. It’s a fairly sleek, yet large piece of hardware; long barrel, upwards stock, that sorta thing. “Aegis MG4. Mag-powered, box strip-fed, effective firing range of 750 meters, max of about 1,600. Rate of fire maxes out at around 1,100 per minute. It’s a beaut. She’s a bit of a hothead if you make her run for too long, though, so be careful with it.”

“I will,” you agree. “But for now- I want to ask permission for my AICAs to join in the mission.”

He raises an eyebrow. “Why?”

“Personal adjustments make them viable in foot combat and potential information acquirement,” you reply easily.

“...Fine. None of my business if your bots get trashed,” he says disinterestedly. You’ll take it, regardless. “At any rate, be out here for deployment in an hour. Dismissed until then.”

He walks off, and you simply look back to your bots. “Well. There you have it. Let’s go put these away.”

“Then what?” Jago asks. “We just twiddle our thumbs until showtime?”

“Well, you two can do as you like, so long as you don’t get into any trouble.” you decide. You’re feeling more than a bit peckish. “I’m gonna go get some food before we head off.”

“Yeah, yeah, we’ll find somethin’ ta do,” he says idly. You go back to put your gear up, and with a bow from Prima and a lazy salute from Jago, you go your separate ways for now.

The lunch area is busy, it seems; not too surprising considering it’s early evening- a lot of folks trying to get dinner from the looks of it. You notice that that silver-haired lady that was talking with Nira and Mil when you first showed up; she’s dining with what looks to be two other older sorts, a guy with a salt and pepper hairstyle and some mechanic’s overalls, and a lady who seems like she’s more a civilian on base than anything else, judging by her (well-kept) skirt and blouse. She’s laughing much as she was before, seemingly in good spirits.

That annoying barkeep is there too, sipping on some drink. She’s nestled away in a corner and casually looking over the rest of the room. If she notices you, she doesn’t make any motion towards the fact. But it’s the face sitting next to her that has you vaguely curious. A man that looks for all the world like your typical spook; black glasses, pressed suit coat (you can just barely see a plugsuit underneath, but still), and he seems to be sipping on a drink, as well. He, unlike her, gives a small nod of hello when your vision lands on him- how he could tell you were looking at him under your glasses, who knows.

Henson is a few tables away, sharing some sort of story with a pair of enthralled young pilots; he seems in good cheer as well as he chews up a massive piece of meat. He’s sitting with his back to you, but at least one of the listeners notices your presence and seems to quickly jerk his head away from you.

Lastly is Tate, who seems particularly grumpy and brooding to himself over a meal, although he doesn’t seem to be eating in particular…

Seriously, though, it's mainly a video game. The movie is good in a bad movie sort of way, but Handler's probably talking about the fighting game series, especially since EVO 2019 is currently happening or has happened.

Well. SHE’S likely going to get your goat again, but the spook is honestly the most uniquely dressed person you’ve seen on base so far. That, and he seems to be halfway expecting you to come his way. The barkeep just does a little finger wave as you set down with your plate- some kind of ham or beef or...something, slaked with sauce and garnish. It smells good, at least.

The man nods again. “Ms. Lane. It’s good to meet you personally.”

“And should I say the same, Mr…?” you let the sentence trail off.

“Nathaniel Black. Internal Affairs for Aegis, and occasional Walker pilot.” Hm. Nathaniel Black, huh? Wonder if that’s coincidence. “And you might be wondering what I’m doing down here. Well, for that, you can blame Ar-” He’s silenced immediately by the bartender jabbing him with her straw. “My associate here. She spoke a fair bit about you.”

You blink. Your eyes shoot to the bartender, who just gives you a smile. “...Right.”

He shrugs. “Believe it or don’t. But, not to worry. You’re not in trouble. Rather, I was hoping you’d come over because I wanted to ask you a question or two.”

Huh. Wonder what that’s for. “Go ahead…”

He leans in a bit closer, keeping his voice low? “Are you aware of the power struggles currently going on in this company?” You shake your head. “Good. It’s nothing you need to worry about. But know that there is an opportunity for you to...expand your source of income vis a vie assisting in the potential removal of certain individuals that pose a risk to Aigis’s good name and continued operability.”

“Individuals like…?” you question, but he shakes his head.

“Classified for now. Some external, most internal, however. And you’d have to be quick and discreet.” He leans back, folding his arms. “Interested?”

Exactly this. Extra work for extra pay is good, but extra working involving going against the employer's company sounds like it could lead to even more trouble later on, such as the employer not being able to pay any more.

>>3725359
>We can be quick but when have we ever been discreet?

Please note that this is Jago and Prima first job to see if they can hold it for themselves in case Sal want only them to fetch a job. As long as our client is the company, then eliminating problems to the company, even if they're the people who signed us on, isn't a problem. But if the contract is with certain people, and not the company as an entity, then we'd have to demand a substantial increase, because it'd be breaking our contract.

No, not at all. Because in the end this was entirely an optional extra job that is suggested due to what people voted for in the downtime between main missions, and not part of the mission that Handler made sure we would know of with or without prompting from us. I believe that we can do it if we put our effort in making sure that this side-mission goes well rather than making up some paranoid schemes and annoying each other. That extreme cautiousness of ours could be put to a good use instead of being wasted on arguing in circles.

You frown a bit. The idea was a curious one, and part of it makes you worry about your client’s financial situation- but really, you’ve long proven not so excellent at spygames. You’re gonna need to work on that, really, but for now, you’re not seeing it pan out well for you. “Tempting, but I’ll pass,” you decide. “I don’t want to get caught up in corporate spygames right now.”

His face straightens out a bit, and he tilts his head in acceptance of your decision. The bartender just pouts a bit, puffing out a single cheek. “Fair enough. Mind, we can’t talk any more about it to you, then. What I’ve already said is largely an open secret, but I’ll have to ask you to remain silent on it nonetheless.”

You shrug. “Fair enough.” Whether you’d stick to that depended, obviously, but as of right now you can’t say you see a major reason to mention it to anyone in particular, especially if it’s open knowledge. You might poke at the topic just to make sure, but otherwise…

“Excellent.” He nods. “If you’d care to stay here and finish your meal, that’s fine. I do more than discuss issues with the leadership, after all. I’m also here to talk if you need help with any...interpersonal conflicts.” His smile returns. “And I’m sure you’d love to converse more with my associate. She mentioned you being a breath of fresh air.”

You simply side eye her at THAT. She shrugs, nodding casually. “Hmhm.”

You wind up squinting at the girl slightly, and you swear her ever-present grin grows a bit. “Soooo...you two known each other long, then?”

The man’s posture relaxes a bit, settling into something more natural at the change in topic. “Oh, for our whole lives. She’s been by my side through the best and the worst.” He gets a pat on the arm for the compliment. “We both signed on to Aigis around the same time. Most everyone does at least some time in a Walker, but she and I tend to prefer our own two feet. Still, we’re on the short list for if there’s ever an emergency need. Her sooner than me, though. Can’t say I’m happy about it, but luck of the draw and all...”

She just nods, quirking an eyebrow at him. “Mhmmm...”

He has the grace to look ashamed. “Alright, so maybe it’s because she’s better than I am behind a Walker. Still! I can’t say seeing her doing her thing behind the counter isn’t a happy sight for me.” He returns her gesture, shaking her shoulder in a friendly fashion. “Don’t know what I’d do with myself if she got downed on a mission. Much rather her on base.”

She lets out a pleased noise at that, almost like a purring kitten. You find it curious...but you’re really not sure if asking about her silence would be considered rude or not.

More then just Izumi and Lorelei this time. We definitely need Mono, since she knows how to actually act, and Jago seems like he'd do well at snarking. Prima might need some time to get the idea behind riffing the movie, but we'll invite her along as well so she can socialize with others.

On the one hand, I'd think this would be better as a singles night. Owlia and Cylcia might have a better time having some couple's time together drawing blueprints, shaping metals, and going over technical specs in husky voices into each other's ear like they were sweet nothings during a makeout session.

On the other hand, I kinda want to see what kind of ideas Owlia might have by watching one of these bad movies, and if Cylcia gets into it, she could really bring out the snark.

Maybe if you ease into it… “Sooo...any chance I can learn her name, or is she just ‘The Bartender’ for now?” you ask simply.

He lets out a soft chuckle; she does, too. They both sound nearly identical, seriously. “She likes to have an air of ‘mystique’,” he says humorously. “Can’t say it hasn’t given her some renown around here, so I guess that’s something.”

“Mmhm.” she agrees.

“So is that why she’s giving me the silent treatment?” you follow up. “That ‘mystique’?”

“Part of it,” he confirms.

Pft. “And the other part?” You’d love to hear what this is.

“She’s shy- ow!” THAT was a smack, and she frowns at him briefly before leveling a flat stare at him. He’s just grinning like a loon, and waves her off as he laughs. “Okay, okay, really, it’s just because she’s not a talker in general. Have to admit though- it’s an easy way to tell when someone’s lying vis-a-vie romance.”

“Pardon?” you find yourself asking. “What do you mean by that?”

“Oh, I couldn’t TELL you about the number of would-be romantics that claim they heard her say something, or worse, that she told them something to all their rivals. Some folks around here seem to think they’ll be the one to get her talking.” He snorts at that, sipping at his drink. The Bartender giggles a bit, a bit of venom in it, and you get the feeling she’s not new to being chased after.

But, that’s also a good opportunity for your next question- not really important, but it HAS been at the back of your mind...“So, are you two together then? Or just good friends?”

He spits out his drink in what you have to admit is an impressive arc (if only because it wasn’t aimed at you), and you see The Bartender’s eyes go wide, her lips press together and she QUICKLY slams her head onto the table, beating it furiously as her whole body rumbles with unreleased laughter.

“Ah.” Well, that answers that.

...aaand great. You’ve got looky-loos over here now wondering what all the fuss is about.

I kinda admit that I'd like to bring her back with us. Not as an Outgoer, mind. Maybe we can see if Ballicini's interested in either getting a new bartender, or maybe starting up a bar in the first place. Fuck shitdamnit, you hate embarrassing yourself like this. Part of you- that little, tiny, never quite gone part that’s never quite gotten past age 16 wants to just duck out and not EVER be in here again.

But, you’re more mature than that. In fact, fuck it. You can own it. And so it is with the straightest face you can muster, you reply deadpan: “Married with kids, then?”

She nearly falls over at hearing that, and you can hear sputtering from her as Nathaniel has...not a look of fear, or shock, no. It’s a look that you rarely see. A look of pure, and utter disbelieving disgust. As though his neck has suddenly gone rusted and unused, it creaks over to the struggling Bartender who’s clutching her sides in desperation, raucous laughter threatening to leak from her mouth as she sways. A sound something vaguely like ‘auuuughwhaaawwww’ leask from his mouth, and you have to admit, you weren’t expecting a reaction like that. You’re kinda proud. “So, you’re waiting on the mortgage, the-”

“SISTER.” He says, a bit too loudly, his body leaning towards you in desperation. “SHE’S MY- gah!” He finally blinks and his voice also lowers to something closer to normal as he registers his volume. “She...she’s my sister. Jeez.”

Barely recovering, The Bartender can only give you a thumbs up, still struggling to control her laughter, small but rapidfire ‘heeheeheeheehee’ coming from her. The rest of the meal is less laugh heavy, but you feel like regardless of your refusal, you’ve at least gotten on their good side.

‘Well, hers, at least,’ you figure as you watch her lean against her brother’s side and fake a lovey-dovey body language…

...to which he makes The Face of Despair once again.

You don’t have much time for greetings as you walk back over to Kine. He merely nods, and motions for you to follow him. You’d grabbed your armor, of course- it was a bit...stuffy, but protection is protection. Heck, he’d looked almost impressed at you, his stone hazel meeting your dark red, if for a moment.

But, the moment passed, and before long you’re taken to the back where the Walkers were. “You’ll be going in on an angle to the air crew,” Kine explains as Prima and Jago walk to your pace. “We want to draw the anti-Walker support out and then hit ‘em before they have a chance to properly deploy. Ideally, they won’t see you in particular coming until it’s too late.” He stops you in front of what looks like an IFV- it’s got a pair of gunbarrels on its broadly armored frame, and eight powerful looking wheels. “You’ll be in one of these,” he explains. “Be prepared to hit the ground running. I’ve been informed that if you make it back from this alive, you’ll be given an additional reward; partial schematics to one of our more common Walker leg bases. Any questions?”

You shake your head; Jago and Prima don’t seem to have any particular curiosities either.

He nods in appreciation. “Then we’re out in five.” He takes some sort of communication off his belt, and an all-call goes through, warning all combatants that they’re about to move out. “Good luck out there.”

“Ta,” Jago waves blithely. “Won’t need it!”

Here’s hoping.

-----------------

The ride is bumpy and a bit rough; nothing at all like the flight you’d had before. You’re in the back with five other soldiers; local, obviously. Most of them are dressed in your standard gear, although one is in a full body infiltration suit; up to the point where you can’t even see his face due to the full helmet covering it. Honestly, it’s fair enough- your helmet covers your face, too; couldn’t even bring your glasses- not that it mattered much. The goggles you were looking out of were tinted themselves. You’re not sure if that’s just luck or intentional.

Even so, it was obvious you were the odd one out- largely because aside from being the only girl in the transport, you were also a good head and a half shorter than everyone else save for Prima and Jago, who are both sitting at your feet nonchalantly.

It’s a few more minutes before the one across from you, near the exit speaks up. He’d been looking back and forth at you for a while, like he took up until now to build up the courage. “Okay, enough. Is it just me, or is Kine crazy for this?”

A number of groans go up at this. “Just don’t,” the one next to you says tired from underneath his own gear. “I don’t like it either, but I don’t get paid to question.” As though he just realized you’re there, he turns to you. “Dunno what the hell possessed him to bring you along. Might just be sending you to your death. Not sure even a Scrapper deserves that.”

“Worry about yerselves,” Jago pipes up. “We’ve got ‘er back.”

“Although the sentiment is very much appreciated!” Prima adds on. “Thank you!”

He pauses for a bit, glancing down at the two bots that spoke. “...yeah, that’s still weird to see. AICAs with personalities installed. Heard about it, but never had to deal with one myself. Kinda...eeh.”

“Heard that it was a lot more common before everything went south,” another pipes up. “Used to be the standard, but when we were up shit creek people stopped wanting ‘em because it’d waste time or cause emotional issues or somethin’. So they stopped bein’ made at large. Won’t lie, it’s kinda cool, to me. Wonder where you found the data for ‘em?”

“Oy, we ain’t-” Prima elbows him sharply, though, and the clang is enough to get him to shut up- albeit after a brief glare.

You just shrug briefly. “Homemade, you could say.” You reach down to pat the two on the head a bit in show- Prima lets out a surprised metallic squeak and presents you with a confused yet happy look which you have to ignore. Jago simply endures it in stoic silence, although there’s a low rumbling you can feel that you’re not sure is a good or bad thing. “A friend of mine made it possible.”

“Jeez. Friend of yours must be good to make a virtual personality with things like they are,” he comments. “Sure they’re not looking for a job? Don’t think Aegis would say no to another programmer, scrapper or no.”

“She’s not the type to take orders well,” you quickly comment. Seriously, LORELEI as a programmer? The only thing she’d do is play at being nerdcute and get everyone else to do her job…

“Ah, shame.” Didn’t seem too bent on the advertisement, huh? Whatever.

Suddenly, an intercom blares to life, and everyone’s attention snaps back into focus. “Alright back there. We are officially approaching the staging grounds. We hold position here, and then we move in once we get the signal, which should be in a few minutes. So get ready to move, and move hard. Out.”

A tense silence comes over the space for a few moments. Everyone’s no doubt trying to get into game mode- the point where it’s just you and the mission.

After about three minutes, you suddenly hear a screech in the distance, and the muffled sound of explosions. “That’s our cue! POSITIONS!” The IFV lurches to speed, and you can hear the rumbling of combat get closer and closer.

“Alright! You’re deploying in FIVE...FOUR...THREE...TWO...ONE!” The hatches on the back fly open, and you’re immediately treated to a Walker flying overhead just barely juking a pare of missiles as it makes a wide circle around to get back in the fray. “GO, GO, GO!”

You’re quick to dive out as the IFV’s guns start blazing, Jago and Prima not far behind you. Swiveling around the vehicle’s sides as you see two others dump their cargo of soldiers, you’re quick to get an impression of the battlefield. Off in the near distance is the giant beast- some kind of...frilled lizard dog thing. Kinda reminds you of a dinosaur, actually. And there’s at least five Walkers- nothing but dots, but very fast dots- flitting around it, occasionally pounding it with heavy duty firepower. Much closer, however, seems to be an assortment of anti-air vehicles and artillery, all firing rockets and other munitions in an effort to drop one of your people- or, likely, the beast.

Which means that for you...

Here' my shitty drawft of the plan:
1: Push towards the nearest position together with Aegis grunts and take out the baddies
2: Trust the grunts to handle themselves, break off and get to the northern AA guns
3: Set up the turret on pont 2, leave Prima and Jago to operate the turret or AA gun - no friendlies here, so no need to worry abot people seing us pulling out stuff out of our bag. Go finish the rest of the AA guns
4-5: Final sweep, then pick up the bots - it's time for the secondary objective.

Well, I wouldn't say nobody can see us at point 3, Mil and Avos are both nearby, though if they're good enough to observe us mid-dogfight is something else. You'd need a badass anime codename like Angel of Death or something to keep an eye on a 16 year old on the battlefield.

Get behind the cover to direct N, peek around it to engage the northern defense. Assuming we can "shoot it until it dies", once it's dealt with work our way along the north side of that scattered cover, wrecking AA and defenses as they come into view.

So... get behind the cover, suppress the 1st def point, let the grunts (blue) advance and finish off the 1st point, then rejoin them and destroy the 2nd point and AAs. Correct?

Seems like the general idea of 'push to nearest encampment, set up the bots and get to shooting' wins out if nothing else for now.

>>3733750
They seem to be semi-mobile double turret encampments- they're all shielded from the front and many seem to be on treds. You don't see much in the way of loose infantry from your position- mostly gun manners and general guards.

Mobile heavy defenses? Interesting. With them on treads, they should have the ability to swivel to cover a large arc; if we're clever we could rotate them out of position then hit them in the rear if we can't punch through the front. But we should be able to punch through the frontal armor with some work unless they're rated for >HMG.

You don’t waste any more time, charging forward towards the nearest encampment; you hear a few noises of surprise from your allies as you keep pace with and then outpace them, but you’re more focused on the massive gun that’s watching the back of the anti-air cannons that are taking potshots at any Walker it can target; it’s already trying to turn to aim for you, but fortunately it seems Aegis’s forces aren’t just warm bodies- they’re quick to provide fire support, and bullets whiz past you as the men at the controls either dive for cover or wind up giving the interior a new red coat of paint. A few stray shots your way are fired off, but if anyone manages to get hit behind you, you can’t tell.

“Oh dear oh dear oh dear!” Prima yells as she slides into the limited cover given by a nearby small rock formation. You’d barely remembered to throw her your MK5 pistol, and to her credit she only fumbles with it a little before plinking away. “This is rather more intense than a one on one or two on two battle!”

“Yeah, it’s aces!” Jago says gleefully as he launches his hook out. For a second you’re wondering why- and then you realize as he yanks a submachine gun out of the hands of a fallen soldier that was trying to run up on you. “Loads more intense!”

“Down!” someone yells, and you’re all quick to duck as machinegun fire reports above you. Right, the second encampment. Seems they’ve realized what just happened- a bit late but…

“I’ll cover you!” you quickly say as you bring your shield to bear. You didn’t want to test it too long against high-caliber bullets like this, but...needs must. “Go!”

At that, you burst out of cover, shield in front, and immediately the sound of bullets smashing against your shield sounds out heavily as your own machinegun retorts back. It’s only two or three seconds before you can see them start to swivel back to the original targ- but it’s enough to hear a few shouts as your side takes advantage of the temporary lull to round on them. An explosion goes off nearby that’s clearly a grenade, and the smoke that pools up from the turret tells the story of what just happened there as a couple more Aegis soldiers pull up from cover on that end.

“What the SHIT?” One of the soldiers seeing you just shouts as he catches up and they prep to hold the gun. “How the fuck can you move like that?”

You’re quick to leap off, shoes pounding as you dart towards the nearby AA encampment, who’ve already seen you, and the operators are quick to grab sidearms. Their shots go wide, though- thanks to your allies’ gunfire which shreds them just as they pull the trigger. Impressive- and it frees you up to blow past the encampment, moving into another small rock pile- likely blown to pieces at some point, but still high enough for cover. A distant roar comes from the east as you quickly move around the cover to pop up and spray, Jago backing you. Combined, your firearms cover the distance well, a veritable shower of bullets felling most of the nearby emplacement.

Risking a glance over, you can see Aegis forces constantly on the move- they’ve already gotten another AA installment under their control, seems like. Honestly, so far this is going pretty we-

Suddenly, a massive roar echoes through the sky as a number of massive lights go off in succession in a pattern across the sky- explosions themselves, you realize, and each enough to put out light of its own. Only a second or two later, a massive windy shockwave kicks up a massive wave of dust, causing a brief moment of panic amongst the ground forces. For a moment you’re concerned about the three Walkers, but you count...five? Flittering dots still. One is slower than the others, but they’re all still up. So no one’s down and out yet…

With the southern end nearly yours, though, and split up from your team, you wonder…

“Hmm…” you look back towards the outpost. It really WAS a touch bigger than you’d expect a simple lookout to be...maybe there IS something worth finding in there.

“Miss?” Prima asks, as she sees you staring back. “Something wrong?”

“No,” you answer. “But we’re not needed here. Time to get two jobs done at once. We’re going to breach the outpost. Follow me!”

“Noice!” Jago cheers as you lead off.

The gunfire isn’t coming nearly as hard, now obviously, but you likely have a short window before some folks from elsewhere start wondering why there’s no noise coming from the southern end of things. You, Jago, and Prima collectively move towards the southeast corner of the outpost area- there’s no other defensive efforts aside from an electrified fence, it seems. You’re going to have to get in, do your best to be quick yet stealthy. Don’t want anyone shredding intel. A thought, though, comes hardly a second after that as you duck into a bombed out stone building; hardly its foundation is left. You’ve got something just for this kind of situation…

If you want to, you’ll probably want to do it before you get further in range of anything.

>Use the Vanishing Plate? (Yes or No)

Prima and Jago wouldn't be affected by it, but you could give them other orders- especially if you want a distraction.

“Hold on a sec,” you decide as you turn to them. “I’ve got an idea. Falcon?”

He perks up, clearly eager for some action. “Yo?”

“Need you to stay around the perimeter, make some noise, keep them off me. You’ll know when.” With that, you turn to Prima. “You got any way to keep track of me that ISN’T visual?”

“Er, several,” Prima responds. “Why do you ask?”

“Because you’re going to need to in about a second. I think it’s high time I got use out of one or two things,” and to emphasize you drag out the Vanishing Plate you’ve kept on you. Now, as far as she said, this thing activates if you just-

As soon as you channel some mana into it, you end up feeling...a bit lightheaded, actually. It passes quickly enough, however, and Prima and Jago jump a bit. “Miss?!”

“Right here,” you respond to her. “Alright, I’m going to get us in, you need to keep on me. They’re gonna be real confused in a minute at an AICA storming the outpost.”

Prima seems to start at that. “I beg your pardon?”

“You guys needed to prove yourselves, right?” Admittedly, you’re kinda thinking of this on the fly, but it works...you think. “From here on, I’m support. You’re running this op now, girl. We need to get in there, get any interesting data from them, and get out. Understand?”

“Er, I…” she falters for a moment, before pausing briefly...and stiffing up with a salute. “Yes!”

“Then let’s go!” With that, you charge out, the two bots following behind you quickly. A mad dash to the gates results in you taking a bot in each hand to be safe, and as a trio (of sorts) you take a large leap over solves that problem nicely enough, landing near the doorway.

The three of you approach quickly, your pirate bot making a show of cracking his knuckles. “Allow me!” Jago says as he moves to cut the door down- only to be stymied by a sudden *beep* as the lock activates, and the door retracts open.

“No time!” Prima says hurriedly, and darts in. Jago just stands there dumbly for a few moments, though…

“Get moving!” You remind with a shove. “Remember, keep them busy!”

“Right, right!” With that, he bounds off around the perimeter, and you move to catch up with Prima, already at the stairs.

As the sounds of battle continue outside (now with the occasional hollering from a certain bot), you find yourself hoping that the two really are up to snuff for this.

(Will continue tomorrow.)

If we're leaving the show to them, we're leaving it to them.
Plus, mechs in the middle of combat will be hard to reach with her inbuilt radio and should have full ECM and EW suites running anyway. That's pretty obvious attack vector and will be thoroughly defended.

She’s rapidly looking around for something, but before you can ask what, she freezes, her head locking onto something in the distance, a bit above her. “There! Active transmissions!” She darts off up the stairs, and you’re quick to follow. A number of shouts echo from above, and as you get to the top of the staircase, you find yourself (or rather, Prima) confronted with a number of workers rushing around between rooms in the hallway- whether they’re security or what, you’re not sure, but they’re mostly unarmed, save for a couple with basic pistols for sidearms.

Prima momentarily looks shocked and nervous; only one or two even glance her way between the panic, but aside from shouting and running the other way, they seem to not try their luck. You’re about to say something, but she shakes her head and continues down the hallway, doing her best to ignore them.

“Hey, hold it! Stop!” One of the sidearm carrying workers yells as he runs towards her- he doesn’t draw yet, but he certainly seems intent on stopping her.

She brakes in front of him, only to dodge as he moves to grab her. “I strongly apologize, but I must move past you!” She’s barely gotten the last half of the sentence out as she jabs at the man’s ankles- the way he buckles, shouts, and collapses makes you wonder if she actually broke something- but nonetheless she continues on, her pace having only been slowed somewhat. It’s at the third door from the end of the hallway that she ducks into, and when you follow, you’re met with a room with a window clear out to the north of the outpost, with a row of computers, all trying to calculate something- although when you see the screens, you notice that there’s live footage of the cockpits of their own pilots, it seems, and some kind of...telemetry data. So that’s what they’re doing. And judging from a few on the end, they’re trying to measure it against something. You can see outside that Jago seems to be having a ball, about four individuals soldiers around him sprawled out (or dead), and him doing…

...when did he learn what a crotch chop was? Why THAT, no less? He doesn’t even...nevermind.

Prima, in the meantime, mostly seems to be surprised at the quintet of engineers around the computers, all of which turn in a panic to look at you once the door slams shut. “W-what the…?”

“Hey, get out of here!” One of the ones on the end says as they stand up.

Prima merely bows very quickly. “I-I’m very sorry, but I need your accrued data! I’ll have to ask you to surrender it!”

“Like hell!” he responds. “Get lost before we call the guards!”

She looks near regretful. “Ah. Well, uh...I cannot. I’ll have to utilize force to disable you, then, I’m afraid.”

All of them jump up, clearly nervous. “Shit...guys, come on, stomp her out!”

Before they can move, however, she rumbles a bit...and the claws on her hands come out. Her kimono-ish wear splits, wraps around her legs, tightens to leggings, and her face almost tightens, contracting from a polyhedron to a more pearish shape as faceguards take up around her neck and upper body.

“I would insist you not attempt such, please.” she hisses out. “Allow me access, if you would.” None of them move, though out of fear or bravery you’re not sure. After another beat, though.

“GUARDS!” Well, crap. Prima gives a minute shake of her head, and then she leaps.

You won’t interfere at all unless necessary, but it’s still a good idea to keep an eye on her. She moves cleanly out of the way of an attempted punt, springing up to her attacker’s waist and piston kicking him in the solar plexus; he immediately crumples like a can. Two others try to tackle her; she leaps both of them, causing both to crash into the wall adjacent to the computers. As soon as she lands, she dodges another kick from a third before she trips him and delivers a rapid-fire series of (quite literal in this case) knife-hand jabs up his side, to your honest surprise. He too falls, hand covered to staunch the impending bleeding.

The last one, more portly than the rest, backs up quickly, hands up in supplication. “Shit, fuck, uh...uh…!” He’s trying to edge closer to the door- and you, inadvertently. “Hey, uh, you can just go on ahead, y’know? I mean, aheheh, I’m not- I ain’t gonna...”

“I have a question.” Prima interjects.

He freezes, not sure how to react. “Uh, what? What?!”

“Are you aware of what this data is intended to be used for?” Without warning she quickly turns around; snapping a fist out into the liver of one of the crashed engineers that was trying to quietly get up. He drops like a rock, and she turns around in the next half second to continue. “There must be a reason and protocols for the handling of this data. I would like you to tell me about them.” Wow. Props for the intimidation, whether it was intentional or not. Weird feeling in your gut about it, though…

“Uh, uh...I, uh…” damn, this guy’s nervous. Not to blame him, but still… “Iunno for sure, it’s supposed to be used for comparison data, I think! Like, to evaluate something the higher ups are working on- I dunno what, man, I’m just a grunt here!”

“...” there’s a pause as she gauges his words before finally nodding. “Satisfactory. Please leave.”

Well. It’s her decision. You’ll make sure she understands the pros and cons of letting people live after this, but for now...well, if he calls the guards, you’ll just have to put in a bit more effort, maybe decloak. You have to admit, this plate is really surprisingly mana efficient. You’ve felt a steady suckling at your mana this whole time, but it’s nothing too severe right now.

>Current Mana: 12,250/12,500

Regardless, you gently step out of the way as the big guy stumbles for the door, throws it open and bolts down the hallway. Prima looks at you briefly, then bows. “Thank you.” Nothing more is said.

As she turns to begin, her eyes light up. “It is fortunate that a wireless connection is necessary for their data feed. That makes the situation much easier to handle. Doing such from an accepted terminal also makes this far easier.” For a few moments, her head is the only thing that moves, swiveling this way and that, looking at specific computers for no longer than a couple of seconds each. “Ah, an internal database. This profile doesn’t have access- nevermind, it does now.”

Suddenly a *thump* sounds out...from near the window, strangely enough, as opposed to the doorway. You quickly take a look out- there’s a number of distant explosions still, although less than before, clearly. And Jago seems to have...ah.

A soldier tries to ambush him- he’s caught by burst fire from Jago’s obtained SMG, promptly hooked, and as he’s swung around and around and around, the hook suddenly is yanked from him, sending him flying clear to your window...only to dip below several feet before it can reach, aaaand *thump*.

That’s what that was, then. He notices you looking from the window, and promptly starts waving like a loon. Momentarily you’re shocked that he saw you, before you realize he’s probably got different visual specs than you or most normal folk, like Prima.

“Oh!” Hm? You turn to Prima, her eyes still bright. “It appears that Peacock may have similar designs to Aegis...if perhaps for weaponry as opposed to consolidation of power.” Turning to you, she explains more. “I have text logs discussing the possibilities of utilizing what they’ve called the ‘Seither Nexus’. They may have a lead on its location, as well.”

“We’re getting all of it,” you quickly decide. “How fast can you-”

“Already downloading,” she interjects.

Fantastic. Now you just have to wait and see how everyone else is doing…

Jago’s clearly having a ball, that much is clear. At this point, it seems like most of the response force went to try to deal with him as opposed to worry too much about Prima’s antics.

Keyword being ‘try’. A decent number of those bodies are probably just unconscious as opposed to dead, but...probably not a grand idea to test that too hard. Still, no wonder there weren’t any guards to mess with you.

“Download complete!” Prima says loudly as her pupils dim to their usual color. “I will need to transfer this data onto a safe memory drive, but I now have full knowledge of the local movements, assigned Walkers, communications, and metric data for Peacock Applied Actions, Incorporated in this sector.”

“Outstanding,” you say easily. “Time to get out of here.” You’ve been gone long enough, and the fact that the guns and explosions have largely stopped means one side’s given up the ghost. Ideally, its theirs. Standing aside, you let her lead the way out- a number of remaining personnel are simply either scrambling for the exits or cowering and hoping it all blows past them. Prima fortunately seems to understand the necessity of a quick exit, hopping down the stairs and returning to the front door.

Jago, for his part, shows up as you get out, cutting out your Vanishing Plate’s effects. “Ha HA! Didja see the hurtin’ I put on ‘em! Grand ol’ punch up, that was!”

“You occupied their time well,” Prima says evenly as you take stock of the situation. Sure enough, you can see that just about all the the AA guns have been shut down, and the beast itself...well, you can hardly see it in the night, but just by the pained roar that it lets out, it’s lethargic and, most likely, on its last legs.

You need to head out, though. You can see a number of Aegis troops marching or jogging back to the insertion point, and a couple of them notice your bots, if not you. No prisoners, it seems, although you can only guess that they’re likely full tilt racing away from here. As you head back toward the vehicles, you find yourself next to one of the soldiers. “The hell were you?” he asks. “The damn beast is tough, but at least we managed to scare off the locals. They need to wrap it up before they try to refresh the troops in the area. Or worse, bring in more Walkers.”

“Shouldn’t be too long,” another mentions as he draws near. “Otherwise we wouldn’t have been called back.”

“True,” he says. “I think we’re all glad to get out of this one. We lost a couple, though…”

The first bows his head. “Ah, shit. Always someone, huh?”

“We’ll talk more once we’re back to base. For now, let’s move,” the second insists as they both speed up.. Before long, you’re practically primed to head back out, and just waiting on the clear, resulting in several of you hanging around the vehicles. This was a blur of action, but to be fair, raids and smash and grabs like this were always a quick affair.

As you consider that question, you end up pacing a bit away from the convoy- not enough to lose eyesight, but enough to get a bit of privacy. You have to think on it a bit, but eventually you decide. “I have to admit, you both impressed me. All goals accomplished, little trouble…”

“Noice!” Jago cheers. Shame you’re going to have to make that be premature.

“...but there were some things I’d like to point out for both of you,” you continue, watching as Jago’s cheer almost literally deflates (and being metal, that’s hard to envision). “First of all,” and here you turn to Prima, “why’d you let that last engineer go? It’s not uncommon- I mean, I’ve done it more than a few times, but I’m curious as to your reasoning.”

“Ah!” she jumps a bit in surprise before pausing to consider the statement briefly. “Well, I believed his usefulness as a source of information was depleted. He showed no signs of lying in his statement, and his willingness to aid us directly seemed low. I judged that he had no further reason to be present.”

Hm. Simple, but fair enough. Still… “Did you consider him calling the guards?”

The pause in her response tells you the answer long before she shakes her head. “No...I did not. In itself, that’s strange...I was positive I had calculated all relevant variables.”

“Then you might not’ve thought it relevant at the time.” You shake your head lightly- she means well, but she’s going to need to learn sooner than later. “Gonna need to change that. He could’ve made our exit a lot harder if he’d had a change of heart. If you’re going to let someone go, you need to be certain they can’t easily hinder your job in any way. Keep that in mind for next time, alright?”

“...ah.” Her voice is softer, quieter than it just was, but you don’t THINK she’s taking it too hard, at least... “Yes, of course. I’ll be logging it to memory. I apologize for the error.”

“Not an error, just a warning,” you correct. “Don’t stress TOO hard over it. Anyway, moving on.”

“Hit me, then!” Jago says, thumping his chest. “I kin take it!”

Fine, then. “You’re easily distracted.”

“Wha?” Easy.

“I mean, I noticed you messing around during your time outside. Don’t get me wrong, you did an excellent job taking them out, but you need to make sure you’re aware of your surroundings, too. There’s no telling when someone could try to take you out from long range out here. In cases like this, it’s usually better to focus on quick and decisive strikes, not just the flashy stuff.”

“...But tha’ flashy stuff’s fun.” He points out non-plussed.

This robot. “...just watch your back. I don’t want you getting shot out of nowhere.”

“Hah! Don’t you worry none, I’ll be right!” He’s definitely got the boldness for this, at least. Actually, that reminds you…

Fixing him with a serious stare, you ask. “One more thing. Where the- where’d you learn what crotch chopping was?”

He suddenly seems to have difficulty meeting your eyes. “...Places.”

Hmph. “Places like what?”

“Places like I dun haveta tell ya don’t worry ‘bout it!” Oy. If you start hearing rumors of some 4 foot nothing robot philanderer…

“Impressive,” Kine says after you’re back and changed back into your ‘usual’ outfit. “Heard that some of the folks there were wondering what you were on. You really surprised them out there. Both you and your AICAs. Gotten a decent number of people talking, now.”

“It’s absolutely FASCINATING,” Crane suddenly says as he opens the door to the briefing room you’re in (although it’s more for debriefing, now, really). “All this sudden activity- frankly I think we got you right when we needed you,” he says, as Tate comes in behind him. You notice that he’s got something in his hand- a drive. “Now, we DID promise you something, and here that something is- schematics to the leg sections of one of our Urien-model Walkers. What you can use this for, I don’t know, but it’s yours. Good luck trying to replicate it without our resources, however. Even if you sell it to another faction, it’s of little concern to us.”

>Acquired Urien Legs Blueprints!
>These sleek and curved legs have a surprising amount of flexibility built in, as well as power. In particular, the area where the knees are seems to be reinforced and constructed to allow violent strikes from them...

“Now, we might have a big lead on the location of our big project; feel free to relax for a bit while we confirm a few things, but I’d expect you back in action in a couple of days…” Crane seems all too cheerful at this. “Just be sure you don’t go outside, hm? At least, not right now. Can’t be losing you again, now can we?”

Hm. A couple more days off, then? You don’t think you’d like spending them hanging around the break rooms...

I have a sneaking suspicion they'll end up wanting to run tests, but no harm in the asking.

>Acquired Urien Legs Blueprints!
What a strange thing to give us, but it is what they promised. The only value I see in it is selling it off later, as it'll do us no good in the Intersection.

>>There’s got to be a way to investigate how Seither might work with you a bit more. Nothing too major, but...maybe one of those scientists might have something to share?

Since the 'Seither' that's in this world is very similar but also different than mana, we should properly investigate it to understand it's effects, how it relates to us physically and when casting, magic, and how we might be able to power Seither-powered devices directly or cast magic while piloting a mech.

>>

Can Owlia reduce the leg size and fit it to our bots? Or is that too difficult for the R&D team? We could sell the blueprints to some scrappers and say we stole it.
>>

With this absence of anything to do, you find your mind wandering back to the whole Seither issue. Actually, come to think of it, you hadn’t told Prima or Jago about it, yet. Need to get around to that. Regardless, you’re curious as to its potential. You don’t want to get hooked on the stuff, no matter how it might make you feel...but the sheer potential of it is undeniable. It’s likely that the local scientists will have something to say about it, at least, but...you just know they’re going to get real ‘poke-y’. Not that you’re going to let ‘em, but you could at least use some surface-level knowledge about this stuff.

Well, with that plan of action settled, you decide to head there now. No time like the present, after all... “Oy, where we going?” Jago asks suddenly. “Somethin’ up?”

Oh, right. Might as well tell them…

“Wha? That sounds awful. I mean, innerestin’, but awful.” You’re surprised at that. Jago seemed like he’d be the sort to go for it. “Can’t say I’m fer it if it throws ya off, really. You got plenty a’ juice already, really.”

“It IS concerning,” Prima agrees. “Although I can understand the desire to at least analyze the potential benefits and drawbacks in an area that is suited to the task.”

“Just sayin’, I kinda enjoy jus’ bein’ me, y’know?” Jago argues. “Still learnin’ an all, but nothing too much ta complain about. Wouldn’t be too happy ta have something I dunno about messin’ with me.”

“Well, that would be the point of this, wouldn’t it?” Prima points out. “So that it stops being something you don’t know about.”

“Meh...I guess,” he relents. “Jus’ don’t go too crazy about it, I’d say.”

“On that, we agree,” Prima concedes as you all step into the research wing. Now you just need to find someone that can help…

“Oh, really?! I have to admit, I’m happy to hear that,” Tate says with undisguised interest. “Now, there’s a number of things we can test; I’d love to get a few blood samples, myself, maybe undergo a bit of deep tissue scanning, general X-Rays are always good, and of course exposure tests with biometric scanners hooked up…”

Ugh. He really wants to get in your guts, huh? Well, you’re not letting him get anything invasive or particularly juicy- that might violate the rules. But otherwise...

That's fine, I was just wondering about the comms specifically. It's completely redundant, as far as I can tell. We've got Sal for job/Intersection traffic, and the Murmur stones for on-job traffic. On the rare occasion we need to comm outside of the murmur stone range (has that been an issue at all yet?, we can acquire high-range equipment on site as needed.
>>
>>3741289
>I'm not sure why anons are so enamored with the thing
Mainly because we took the things to get data and because the less we bother sal, the better. Also, we could sell the technology to other outfits. For example, general dynamics(i think thats the name of the group that has the heli carrier( would greatly benefit from not having to send their logistics team to the battle.
>>
>Waaah people have different opinions!!

>>
>>3741326
Comms are low priority and can be explained away as talking to yourself. Maybe we can hack the systems to loop the cameras and record the vanishing plate for Owlia. But it seems like too much effort for a simple recording. I want to give her something since we can't leave the base.
>>
>>3741329
>because the less we bother sal, the better.
We hardly bother on-job as it is, and when we do it's because we need to talk to him, not anyone else.
>Also, we could sell the technology to other outfits.
That I could see, but if this tech fleshes out like we expect I could see I expect the Dealmakers are going to step in and regulate it to some degree. Like the FutureSight, it has potential to be very dangerous in the wrong hands.
That's not a reason to not develop it on its own, just something to be aware of.
>>
>>3741359
>We hardly bother on-job as it is, and when we do it's because we need to talk to him, not anyone else.
Well, that's true, but miranda dislikes sal in general, so she tries to engage with him in the minimum. Either way, it would be nice to have other people to talk with, at least from an IC POV.
>I expect the Dealmakers are going to step in and regulate it to some degree.
As long as we see the money rolling in, there shouldn't be any problem. Hell, we could even make more money if we manage to make different deals with the dealmakers for versions of the system that are less regulated but cost more.
>>
>Playing a lot of 3H lately.
Did anything from the game inspire you Handler? I'd say it's one of the best new FEs in a while, and I hated the hell out of Awakening and Fates.
>>
>>3741315
I see a couple of issues with that. The simplest is that the deal makers won't like losing exclusivity over interdimmentional traffic, as it will make it incredibly difficult to regulate traffic of anything in the intersection, and it would be a loss of power for them. I expect they would highly regulate or outright ban it, assuming it is possible.

Second, interdimmentional transport is expensive, which is why we can't revisit worlds on a whim, and why Outgoers are used to generate value for the intersection instead of trading or similar. Even if the tech exists, it will likely be expensive to operate. And while we have Sal, that's a pointless duplication of cost.

It might slow down a phoneposter for a little (I don't know if you can edit the page on a phone) but even then they can just use their pc for the screenshot and then move the image to their phone.
As far as I know the other anon's request for more posts by the same ID is the best and only way we have for determining if they're the same guy or not.

They are paying - by providing us with their own knowledge of how Seither works. And the more data they get - the more they can tell us about how we can use it.

>>3741218
People here were already testing seither on people, and job info said that 'willed magic' existed - which might mean that there are people who can use Seither just like us. I don't see how it counts as a major technology, otherwise Sal would've pinged us.
