THE BASICS

Your name is Joey (short for something) Donuts.
You are Grel (half elf, half human}
You are a student wizard. You haven't picked your major and you're not licenced to use magic in areas owned by the Grand Ternion Unity.

You have 5 spells

Blast - Does 6d6+20 energy damage. -MP 20
Soar - Launches you up to 12 metres and up to 6 metres forward through the air. You land slowly and safely . -MP 10
Wrack - DO 10 damage to yourself to gain 12 MP -free
WIZARD HAAAANDS - Manipulate an object you can see but not reach. As strong as you are - MP 10
Douse - Extinguish any fire up to the size of a campfire - MP 5
NEW SPELL UNLOCKED

Hells Heart - Instantly double the damage of any attack (ranged, magical, or physical) by charging it with magic -MP 16
Yesterday, you became the boss of a small, airship based company.
Your business partner (who you surprised/impressed by drunkenly kissing last night) is Highball an enterprising goblin for hire.

You have had a big ol sleep.

Part way through your slumber, you blearily recall hearing the distant rattle of the ship's engines being replaced with the rhythmic and pleasant beat of waves against timber.

You mulled over recent life choices in your head. Yesterday, you have never even seen one of those modern, multiple bullet pistols in person. Now, you own one, moreover you're learning how to use. Yet, you don't want to forget about your training. Magic and shit.

You consider just having even more of a lie in, but as you try to roll over, you feel a small, but sufficient weight on your chest.

A familiar voice talks toy you in needlessly weird voice as small hands pat around your face.

Half-elves have square ears.

Highball stops sitting on you and hops off the bed.

"No worries, Nabob. I'll see you by the front door."

You stand up, rubbing your eyes.
The sleep did you some good. You have recovered a little HEALTH and all of your MANA. You are still a little sore, though.

Your MAXIMUM MANA, it occurs to you, would be higher if you wore your WIZARDS ROBE, but you check your CLOSET and can't find it. Huh.

Your POCKETS are currently empty.

You check your NIGHTSTAND and find:

1 REVOLVER (6 bullets)
1 PERC PISTOL (1bullet)
1 CROWBAR
1 SMALL HEALTH POTION
1 LARGE HEALTH POTION
1 BLANK TRANSMOG POTION
1 HOUSEFLY TRANSMOG POTION
1 BATON
45 GOLD
14 SPARE BULLETS

Take all, or just pick? I'll try to get a consensus.

You wander to the BOILER ROOM, where the front door is, GILCREST and HIGHBALL are chatting idly when you come down the steps.

GILCREST beams when he sees you.

"Got that last locker upstairs unjammed! One of those guards took your WALLET - they ain't supposed to do that.

Point is, now your GOLD wont take up room in your POCKETS. Your wallet is separate, and doesn't take up POCKET room. But it can only contain GOLD and your SUDENT ID.

"Here's what I know.

The Shipwright is grumpy , but good at his job. One of those blue, lumpy guys with the condition? Whatever. You probably cant afford anything he sells yet. He's fuel and ship upgrades.

The tiny house with 4 story silo on it is the general store. None of the dudes stock is on display, but there's a chance he has what you want. Good place for furniture and knick knacks. Sorta things to up grade rooms, make the crew happy. That sort of thing. Careful though...the dude who owns the store is eccentric. Only goes by 'The Baron'

SIARKA runs the chemist. You would need BREWERS MARKS to buy her ingredients - but don't worry. SURREY is on that. SIARKA will still sell potions and soft drinks to you, still.

MORDEN's is the tavern. Booze. Chow. Some regulars. Last time I was there - which was a bit back - there was a VITAMGUS and a retired FACTOTUM drinking there. Whatever that is.

Never been to the TAILOR."

You walk up to the bar.
Highball pulls herself up with her elbows, letting her feet dangle, and orders you and her a couple of Manhattans.

MORDEN does his best to answer your questions.

"Isn't much work as such around here. We're basically a stop over and resupply kinda town. The local buyfuglian pen was getting attacked by gopniks lately, but we have a guy on that and he's doing it for free so...yeah. Not much work."

Morden smooths his moustache.

"In terms of locals who are weird. Well, doubtless you've noted ZENJI my barstaff is a HAC"

The waitress turns around, only slightly irritated.

"Nowl." she says

Morden nods.

"Right. Nowl. But she's only really weird in appearance. The Baron - guy runs the general store. He's a necromancer who chose to run a 'everything under the sun' style general store in the middle of nowhere. SO he's weird.

Got my regulars here:
BURSTOCK -with the tattoos, just sits there destroying and then healing her own liver and rolling dice.

GOMERSAL - the ork there. He just wakes up late and drinks red wine and eats crisps. Apparently he used to be a FACTOTUM. He's retired, but I've seen him sell stuff or fix people's gear still."

Morden frowns.

"DOWLER, the shipwright. Is a blooch. Enough said on that."

Morden gestures to Gomersal, who can't hear him but raises a glass anyways.

"A factotum is one of those guys who actually cares about technology, either trying to learn something from what previous civilisations left us or trying to invent something new. All these marvels we enjoy today from your side arm, to your ship to the icebox and even those horseless carriages - are all thanks to people like Gomersal.

DUNNLIVIN is outside of the jurisdiction of the Grand Ternion Unity (basically the government) so you can sell and buy a lot of shonky things here. " Second year of college and you've never had grink? Huh.

Well, basically its meant to be a health tonic. It's got coca leaves, kola nuts, some booze and a LOT of sugar.

It used to be marketed as 'Green Cola Wine" then "Green Cola" then just "Greenk" then eventually "GRINK". I guess the marketing for campaign of 'DRINK GRINK' basically wrote itself."

SURREY shrugs.

" Honestly, I think it's pretty gross. But it's very popular. It comes in a few flavours. In its most basic form it gives you a boost to initiative for the next three combats you have. GRINK RAK will actually hurt you to drink it, but it boosts you further as well as making you do more damage. There's also CLEAR GRINK - which only nostalgic morons actually try to get. It's the MOST disgusting. Also illegal and expensive - on account of its side effects."

"SO, just so I'm clear. I am making whatever I like, brewing some vodka, making some clear grink and also throwing you some health and mana pots. Cause I can do that."

Surrey checks her list.

"It will require a pretty serious list of ingredients, but it's within the budget assigned to me for such things under my contract - so don't sweat that.

It WILL be less immediately profitable but it could work. Lot of bases covered. Also...unless I miss my guess you're planning on doing the ol' treasure hunting, questing type thing, huh? Good alternative source of revenue."

SURREY folds up her list.

"It will take me a while to collect everything, but I have it covered. Thank you for your time, captain."

Why the heck do you guys hate hand holding so much?
>>
I checked out last night after winning the dartboard what did I miss?
>>
>>3720728
I kinda agree, but let's not push it. She doesn't appear to be mad about it so focusing on it now will only make things worse. Possibly a proper apology and an assurance that we're not gonna do that kinda thing again, but if she says it's ok, best to respect that. Also, we got that gobbo a dartboard. Gobbos love dartboards.
>>
>>3720735
Because hand holding is a SPECIAL THING that you do with SOMEONE YOU FEEL SAFE AND CLOSE WITH, not just holding the hand of any STREET VAGABOND for a few spare DOLLARYDOOS
>>
>>3720735
>>3720740
Also as far as I know, specifically, goblins like to keep their hands free and moving at all times, so holding someone's hand is a Big Deal for them. Hence why it's usually so expensive.
>>
>>3720719
I don't want to buy anything actually

Is actually on the money. The gloves make no difference, but to a goblin, interlocking fingers is a huge deal and holding both hands is practically unheard of.

I appreciate that the lore is a little sparce (wont always be) -truth be told its one of the reasons I'm running this quest and having so many job types and species show up. It's so you can explore and ask (only if you want to).

ANYWAYS back to the game.

LORNA claps her hands

"OOh that is GREAT! I have a lot of options, if you can believe that.

RIDERS [150g] - A leather jacket, pants and boots combo. Comes with gloves and a back holster. It'll give you 15 armour, free up pocket space from one weapon and gives you huge bonuses to your ability to ride or pilot anything!

WIZARDS ROBES[115] Hooded, breathable and stylish. This will raise your maximum MANA to 120.

NICE 3 PIECE [100g] A stylish modern look that will stop people underestimating you and unlock new speech options and generally boost your charisma rating. Good for those of us looking to make friends.

LORNA enthusiastically, pulls open a roll of material.

"Both the WIZARDS ROBES and the NICE 3 PIECE can be made out of PAJAK SILK for another 150 on the initial cost! This will give them all the benefits they currently give - plus they'll give you +10 armour"

"They can also be given expanded pockets for another 50g, basically doubles your carry capacity!"

LORNA notices Highball and lets out a litttle yelp of excitement.

"I also do some things for goblins!!
>>
>>3722321
I'm feeling the NICE 3 PIECE, hopefully the lack of armour won't matter so much when we've got a party to fight alongside us.

QM: MOGWOMPS are large, intelligent bipedal monotremes. Notoriously easy going and acquiescent.

While they are not official part of the unity , and generally live in their own communities, they have become an increasingly common sight in civilised towns, with most of the major cities now having its doors and facilities designed to accommodate mogwomps.

The mogwomp has proven invaluable to the growth of modern society. They are and strong enough to be mounts or pull farm equipment, but have intelligence and communication on par with that of a person, meaning they can be left to do their work autonomously and collect pay like everyone else. Not requiring a herder.

Many mogwomps, although they find the work provided for them easy and profitable seek other professions also. Most commonly brewing (they love beer) or tailoring (they don't wear clothes, so it fascinates them) even though they need custom tools to do it.

Many of them believe themselves to be the descendent of the ancient dragons that made this world, and that the cushy niche they have in this modern world is their reward.

Though they don't breath fire, the chemical they can spit is ridiculously flammable.

This is what you know.
>>
>>3722321

You check your WALLET
((It has the slight boost from selling crowbars and mdma - just thought I'd skip you having to go back for it))

LORNA leans down to Highball enthusiastically.

"I got 3 main things!

GOBLIN HARNESS [45g] Fits on your existing clothes. It'll give you easier access to your knives. That way, you'll be able to do any knife based LIMIT BREAK once every combat, instead of once every three combats or when you're injured!

GOBLIN DIPLOMAT [80g] If you're going to a civilised city and don't want the cops to hassle you for your CITY PASS (which you may not have) this outfit will make you look like an envoy. Most cops wont even bother!

GOBLIN SERVANT [30g] Same principle as above, but it only works if you stay near someone, so that people think that they're your boss! It's a little undignified but it works. Kinda cute too."

LORNA turns back to you

"I do have a custom made option, if you like. It's expensive but if you wanna pay the cost to be the boss then this is for you:

THE BOSS [315g] It's a big, fur collared coat and outfit. Slightly bigger pockets, some extra speech options and a charisma boost and I've woven some chitin into it so it also provides +5 armour."
>>
>>3722420
THE BOSS!
Also do you have any hats?
>>
>>3722447
we can't! that would blow over 3/4s of our budget!
>>

I say take the RIDERS now and come back for THE BOSS when we've made enough money to deserve it. As for the gobbo stuff, I'd lean towards DIPLOMAT or just the HARNESS if we're not planning on stopping by civilisation any time soon. HB's call on that stuff.

QM: I just wanna confirm.

It's a long journey, It's gonna be shaped by decisions and be about Joey's arc. If you're ever going to do anything TRULY stupid, it will be more obvious.

Little mistakes. Thoughtlessness, greed, that sort of thing will be less broadcast, but they will still be things the player (and joey) can learn from and can almost always be solved.

The players making a mistake sometimes, to me, makes Joey a relatable and flawed character.

Everyone here is doing good and its all good as long as we're having fun. If we're not - that's a problem I will try to fix.

The scouting intel is very valuable as the troll might be a risk to the town. We have an interest to protect the town, it has nice people which we don't want to abandon and we might want to return to town between missions to refuel and buy/sell stuff.

Highball is used to do scouting and stealth jobs. We'll not ask her to fight the Troll, just to scout and report where is the camp and what she sees from a safe distance. There is some risk but it is calculated against the reward.

We've also got our own alchemist that could brew us something that might help with getting more gains. Improving our physique could also indirectly improve our manapool by having more health.

QM: Hokay - how about this:

You, Joey. Take what the Gopnik has. Sell it, and the 4 pairs of shoes to THE BARON (which will give me a chance to give you the proper catalogue that I had previously left at work)

Highball will be a sneaky goblin and follow and observe the GOPNIK.

I give you my word as a QM, no harm will come to her and she will meet you back at the tavern.

Does that work?

>>3725597
The more things you put on your ship, the more things you can do in your free time which will improve your stats, crew morale and interactions with your party members. The path to becoming an actual muscle wizard is slightly harder than some gains, but self improvement is indeed a fine thing.

You go back the Baron who is a great mood, grooving to a tune apparently only he can here. He is delighted to see you again.

He turns over all the sneakers thoughtfully.

"Nice kicks..for a bunch of clowns to wear! HA!"

He buys from you at a bit of a gouge, but it puts you back up to 380 gold.

The Baron happily puts his (now found) catalogue on the bench for you.

QM: I'm gonna let you guys know right of the gate outta the bat.

Becoming a muscle wizard is hard work. It is discipline and a pilgimmage and literally tackling the elements that make the five spheres of magic.

BUT

This is a big game. So even though earlier you rejected the chance to go down that path it is STILL a possability.

But there is more to it that size.

Gains are still good though.

Pretty sure HB could beat you in an arm wrestle atm.

Don't feel bad though. SHe's actually a pretty strong goblin.

Sounds solid, personally I'd go for the Boss Socks too but I can see how that's an investment for when we're more loaded. Pool table is a must for next shopping trip, though.
Speaking of, do we actually have a communal area for the crew? Both of the rec room kinda things have people sleeping in them.
>>
>>3725702
we can turn one of the cells in a bedroom or a rec room when we have the furniture for it
>>
>>3725704
Would the rest of the crew be happy chilling in a room some pretty evil stuff has been done in? Long as we scrub it out properly I guess it'd be alright, but I'd prolly lean towards making it a bedroom for newcomers who we're not gonna tell about company history.

The Baron wracks up your talley, approvingly.

"You look out for you team. You're the good boss."

He orders his skelleboys into the back room.

"My boys gonna put this where it seems like it'll go. Poster in you office, stuff for you lil main squeeze babe in her room and training and rec stuff into empty room, like cell 3. First aid kit goes in washroom, of course. Anything you don't like you can move. No crazy extra charge"

========

QM: All three cells are currently empty and spotlessly clean (though one has manacles in it) thanks to GILCREST being a great custodian. They are all unfurnished. Cell 3 is currently where all unspecified recreational things will go. The CREW ORGANISATION CHART will be in the BOARD ROOM, naturally.

Once you have the GOLD, the shipwright, DOWLER can install another room for you on any level for 1000g per room. AMong other things.

>>
>>3725719
Yeah, okay, muscle-wizardry can wait - but when your gf is stronger than you then you must do something about it.
By the way, we'll get money from selling our crates of junk once we go back to the ship, so no worries about spending more cash.

QM: Excellent!

FAIRLY IMPORTANT

While some items are passive, there are others you will have to interact with directly. You can do this, or talk to crew members while in transit aboard the SILVER LINING or just before you go to sleep. But both conversations and activities take time.

Additionally, the upgrades you have worked towards are often only added to your character once you have levelled up.

Use your time wisely.

Highball finishes her drink and begins picking the marachino cherries out of it.

"Couple of minute later, a plume of smoke, like an answer signal goes up . Miles and miles from here. I got no concrete landmarks - BUT - I could definitely mark it on a local map.

The baron was out of them! But sweet cans with the plan here already HAS one. Once we're back aboard the ship, I can definitely mark out where this Trolls main camp is."

Burstock beams at Highball.

>G. What sort of healing can you do?

" In combat, I can do :

HEALING BURST which costs 5 mana a turn but heals the whole part for 10 hp.

CHANNEL HEAL:I focus on one person. It costs me 10 mana a turn but it will heal them for 3d6 a turn. While I'm doing this, it also slightly increases their armour.

BIG TIME: Costs 55 mana but it restores 110 hp to one person. So, even if they're on minus hit points, they'll be alright. Any overbleed on their health will count as damage soak for the next turn.

ABSORB: 5 mana, and I can pull all of someones wounds and ailments onto myself.

HEAL THYSELF: Only heals me, but it also only costs 10 mana and heals 45 hp. This is because a vitamgus knows their own body the best, and the better you know a body, the better you can heal it.

BODILY BETRAYAL: 15 mana. I can make an opponents body seize up and their muscles stiffen, making them unable to move for one turn. This only works on ternion species though. (Orks, Elves, Humans, Grels)

Out of Combat, I can:

IMBUE : 20 mana, any one food item is infused with healing energy, cosuming it yields 2d6 HP

SENSE LIFE: What it says. I can make them glow with lifes radiance to make them easier to see. Costs 15.

LAY ON HANDS: 20 mana 50 hp. But only out of combat.

BURSTOCK sits on her bench bed.

"Sorry. I realise that's a lot to remember. Rest assured I will generally do what I think is best."

>You know anything about KIANI FOREST?

"Popular place for unpleasant business. Between the dwarves and the harpies any body that gets brought in there will be picked clean. No evidence to speak of. So there's probably gopniks and bandits in it too. Still...probably also means there's something valuable in there."

>D. Youre a vitamagus, but you still know 5 spells from the basic spheres right?

Burstock nods as she pours something clear from the barrel into a cup of crushed berries.

I do. I know.

FIZZLE: Costs 35 mana, but can be cast as a reaction. Nullifies any one spell before its effects.

SMITE: My one truly offensive spell. It conjurs a lightning bolt and does a punishing 60 damage at only 20 mana. But it only works outside. Only effects a single target. Ignores armour.

SPLIT STEP: 55 Mana allows pass through surfaces that are up to 1.5 metres thick.

I also have WRACK and WIZARD HANDS. You know about those."

It's like being another person."

Burstock reclines on her bed, resting her feet on the barrel. Fancy underwear.

"Was there anything else you wanted to say to me, Mr. Donuts?"

She craves friendship and company and lost some out of recklessness. She grieves lost friends. We should remember that when offering trust or friendship.

>Lumsden looks over her shoulder briefly, giving you a slightly pensive look. You're not certain but she might be very slightly blushing.
Probably vanity, she wants to show that she has great... personality.

Also remember that she is an experienced warrior. For now that would just be for emergencies as she might not want to get in adventures. Once we establish trust/friendship we might be able to ask for help.

Things to buy that might help her:
- Decoration
- Heater
- Recreation stuff

" A little bit of everything. I've got the vodka going, but it's my first foray into that sort of thing. We may want to find something nice to put it with or something to flavour it with. We'll get better if we keep at it."

>B. What are you working on?
"Oh, you'll see. Just keep it on you. A lot of people think that brewers are just for making consumables. That may have been true once, but since the glowbottle and the boomflask, we're now open to the idea of brewing things with other uses. Just keep it on you for a bit and walk around. You'll see."

>D. What do you know about Lumsden?
"You know? Not much. I've bumped into her a few times as I was going to and from the washroom. She tends to take her meals in her room, same as us. Her main hobbies seem to be lifting weights and drinking liquor on the roof of the ship. SO I mean...we haven't had a huge amount to talk about in maybe a year of working together. I don't know."

Nah. Highball just did that for the good of the business.

Same as holding hands for money. Given the cost of a vitamagus' services (now a month or two paid up) each minute of handholding saved you guys about 600 gold.

Truth be told , Highball -though embarrassed would have actually been okay if Joey had not also given away her room immediately afterwards and then tried to make it look like a smooth move.

You need more CHA for that sorta move.
