The Lighthouse War is over, but conflict still continues.

With Erusea's defeat at the hands of the Osean Federation and the International United Nations, the imperial nation has splintered into a confusing mess of separatists, freedom fighters, warlords, rogue military factions, and those seeking to profit from the chaos. Worse, Erusea's many automated drone factories still remain intact, waiting for new masters to come to claim them.

The Usean continent remains in crisis, and it's up to a new generation of pilots to face this next generation threat...

You are MILLY, the "Red Tail", a Belkan Air Force pilot fighting for the IUN!

Currently, you were trying to bomb a rogue drone factory that was being used to supply a bunch of damn pirates with top the line military hardware. However, your first bombing run on the factory only caused minimal damage, and now the facility was belching drones like angry hornets ready to defend their hive. Already, you could see at least a dozen MQ-99s and a few MQ-101s already in the air, with more being launched by the second.

"There's so many of them!" Vicky whimpers.

This was going to be tricky.

I mean for all we know the drones could be controlled from off site. It would be a special kind of stupid to put the controller in the same building as the factory

Better question, are they programmed to not damage the factory no matter the circumstances?

If that's the case, then I think we could exploit that flaw.

Your immediate thought was to start thinning out these damn drone numbers. You'd never be able perform another bomb run safely with so many of them around. But it was going to be tricky on how exactly you'd do it, especially with Bandit and Misono occupied with the manned CAP force up high.

This close to the ground, it seemed the drones didn't really know how to maneuver at low altitudes and didn't do much to attempt to evade your cannon fire as you scythe your Su-30's nose through the tightly packed formation.

Vicky meanwhile also lets her Gripen's cannon roar in unison, and together, you see multiple drones going down in flames, crashing into the factory below and causing even more damage. You'd have to guess you alone took down maybe four of drones and Vicky taking two.

All that's left immediately in front of you is a single MQ-101 that immediately makes a climb for higher altitude. It wasn't an immediate risk to you and its departure meant you had an opening for another bomb run on the factory.

Then again, Bandit and Misono were still up there, tangling with a pair of F-16s. What that drone tried to jump them...?

"B-be careful!' Vicky warns as you break off from her.

You don't have time to see what Vicky does as you focus your attention on the drone. It was already some distance away. Still within gun range, but not exactly at an ideal distance. You'd have to hit afterburners or go for missiles...

You watch as your missles streak out and upwards towards the climbing drone. It apparently does not notice your missiles, at it doesn't make much of an attempt to avoid them as they converge on the drone and blow it to pieces, fragments raining back down towards the earth.

At that moment, you spot the burning hulks of a pair of F-16s plummeting through the sky as Bandit and Misono link back up with you.

"Their high altitude CAP is out of action for the moment." Bandit announces. "Red, how's the factory?"

"We dropped some bombs on it, but we didn't do a lot of damage on the first run." You report.

"Where's Swordfish?" Misono wonders, her F-2 banking slightly to get a better view of the formation.

"I left her back at the factory to do another bomb pass while there was a lull in the drones." You explain.

"You left her alone?" Bandit asks sternly, obviously not approving you splitting up.

"B-bomb run complete! Vicky yelps as her radar contact shows her climbing up and away from the factory.

"I'm detecting a bunch of secondary explosions!" Brighteye chimes in. "Looks like you did enough damage to put that factory out of action for the immediate future!"

Sure enough, as you look down, you could see thick columns of smoke belching from the factory complex. Most of the buildings were on fire, there some sections, mainly the production warehouses, were still intact. Indeed, some drone launchers were still operational and sporadically putting more in the air as you orbited the area.

"Me and Knives still have our bomb loads." Bandit points out. "We can do another run and take it out permanently."

"There's still drones in the area!' Vicky wails.

"And I'm detecting additional hostile aircraft vectoring in!" Brighteye adds. "Looks like a half dozen manned fighters!"

"All right, Swordfish, we'll do a bait and switch on these assholes!" You tell your wingmate.

"But who's going to the b-b-bait?" Vicky wonders.

Hm, well, that's a good question. You're not sure how Vicky would perform under pressure if she deliberately draws attention to herself. Then again, you'd alternatively have to trust her to take out those F-16s before they could get a bead on you.

"I'll be the bait. You just wait up high and pounce when they come in!" You tell her.

"R-roger!" Vicky says as her Gripen starts gaining altitude. "Y-you're sure about this, right?"

"Totally!" You assure her. "Don't worry about it!"

"Okay! Good luck!"

Vicky's Gripen climbs out of your field of view and you look ahead at the heading where the enemy should be coming in from.

Below, you could see explosions ripple along the aground as Bandit and Misono perform their bombing runs.

"Brighteye, you go any eyes on the hostiles?" You ask.

"Yep! They'll be in visual range in twenty seconds!" Your AWACS chirps. "Looks like it's more F-16s headed your way!"

Sure enough, you can see sunlight glinting off of six shapes in the distance. You briefly consider what to do. You could fire off a volley missiles to force them to break maneuver and hopefully break formation. That would split them up and make it easier for Vicky to pounce on one or two of them.

Or you could pretend to withdraw and draw them in closer. If they were in a tighter formation, Vicky might be able to take out more of them in a single pass.

You immediately feign retreat and make a quick 180 degree turn, as if attempting to flee.

And the enemies take the bait, the F-16s committing by hitting afterburner to close in with you. You also note that they're not just any F-16s, but the more advanced F-16Vs. Even more, there was one of them that stood out from the others, painted complete black with red highlights.

An enemy ace of some kind? Curious. Almost ominous, really.

"Roger that!" Vicky replies. "I-I'm going in!"

Almost immediately, the F-16Vs shoot off a volley of missiles as you close in on them, but you make a quick dive below the formation to throw off the missile locks. Normally, this would be a suicidal move since there would be nothing stopping the F-16Vs from just turning around and pouncing on you with their altitude advantage, but you had help from up on high.

Like an angel of wrath, Vicky's Gripen comes shrieking out from the sky, belching cannon fire and missiles just as the F-16Vs turn their back to her, and they don't even stand a chance. Her two missiles score direct hits on two of the F-16Vs, and in their packed formation, they spin out and collide with their comrades, instantly wiping out four of the planes. The fifth ones attempts to break away, but Vicky is too quick, instantly performing a hard bank and shearing the plane in half.

Five planes down in one pass. Even YOU weren't expecting that kind of result!

End, meanwhile, instantly reacts and flips around with almost inhuman reaction speed as he draws a bead on Vicky.

"O-oh no! He's coming right at me!" Vicky wails.

You feel your body straining as you pull the same rapid midair flip, almost instantly switching directions and getting a bead on End.

Almost immediately, End makes a sudden dive, either predicting your move or instantly reacting to a new target lock.

"After them!" You bark at Vicky as you nose down, attempting to pursue the enemy ace.

However, that F-16V was much faster than it looked, hitting afterburner as it recklessly dove closer and closer to the ground.

And that's when you see Bandit and Misono on a bomb run, dropping the very last of their iron bombs on the now blazing factory. Crazily enough, you see End blaze right under the falling bombs, clearing them seconds before they landed on their target and exploded, creating a column of flame and smoke in your path. You and Vicky had no choice to pull away to avoid the blast. By the time the smoke cleared, End was gone.

"Brighteye! Can you tell us where that hostile went?" You ask.

"I'm really sorry! I lost contact with it!" Brighteye replies. "They must be following the terrain, since I'm not picking them back up!"

"W-w-what kind of move was that?!" Vicky stammers. "They could've gotten blown up!"

"It was a pretty cool move!" You say giddily. "Fucking flying right under falling bombs like that? It was fucking badass!"

"And stupidly reckless." Bandit chides. "Red, Swordfish, form up. Targets are destroyed and we are pulling out. Brighteye, what's the ETA on Erusean response forces?"

"Um, about that..." Brighteye replies a bit nervously. "They're not coming."

"What?" Bandit sounds genuinely surprised for once. "Did they fall back?"

"No, they're just GONE." Brighteye mumbles. "We caught sight of End reappearing and all Erusean contacts disappeared."

"You mean he shot them all down?!" Vicky wails.

"This End sounds like quite the formidable foe!" Misono says, impressed.

"Well I'm just glad they decided not to tangle with us." Bandit sighs in exasperation. "Ravens, we're leaving. Head out to sea and we'll vector south and return to base."

Down below, fires raged all over the factory and the port, the result of all of your bombing runs. Looked like this whole area was truly well out of commission. Another mission accomplished!

Still, the presence of that End ace... something about the way they flew didn't seem human. The thought of possibly running into them again...

You returned to base after it was well into the night, with little to no fanfare. Well, guess you shouldn't have expected much else. After all, Raven Squadron wasn't the only unit operating out here.

You recall seeing the twin Typhoons of Orpheus Squadron taking off from the second runway as you land, but other than that you don't have any issues. Once you're all on the ground, though, you're all too exhausted to do much else but return to quarters.

The next day though, now rested and refreshed, you wonder what you should do. Having just come off a mission, you weren't on the alert roster so you could afford to relax a bit. You should probably go find Vicky and celebrate her magnificent ace-in-a-day performance. Then again, you also did hear Mead mention you should drop by the hangar for an important matter.

Then again, maybe Bandit knew a little more of that mystery Ace that showed up during the last mission...

Well, it was a big moment for Vicky, so that meant the whole squadron had to be there! You quickly shoot off texts to everyone. Of course, Bandit replies practically instantly, as if he's either always watching his phone or he's just extremely prompt. Well, he's at least up for it, though you suspect he's just gonna be around to chaperone.

Then comes Misono's reply, almost as fast and much more enthusiastic. She was totally down to party, as expected.

But no response from Vicky.

Maybe she just hasn't checked her messages yet. You give her a direct call, but only get a voicemail.

Guess her phone was off?

Hmmm, something smelled fishy about this. Was Vicky trying to avoid you? Given her rather meek personality, you wouldn't put it past her. Poor girl seemed absolutely allergic to any sort of attention whatsoever, which made her career choice of being a fighter pilot rather odd.

Still, it's not like you were without resources yourself. There's only so many places you could hide on a base like this.

Your first instinct is that she's with her plane. You immediately make a beeline towards the hangar.

Sure enough, you can see Vicky, who seems to be... distressed about something. She was in a very deep and heated conversation with a very bemused looking Mead, her arms and twintails flailing wildly in the air as she was apparently panicking over something.

Weird. What would get her so worked up like this? From this distance, you couldn't really hear anything that was being said.

"Hey! Vicky! Mead! What's up?" You grin as you approach the pair. "Something up with Vicky's plane?"

"N-no! There's nothing wrong with it at all! There's nothing to see here!" Vicky blubbers, standing in front of you to prevent you from moving closer to hangar.

"Heh, if there's no problem, why are acting all concerned?" You raise an eyebrow and look to Mead. "Did something happen?"

"Oh, we just did a little redecorating, that's all." Mead winks. "Heard about what you all did pulled off, so we decided a fresh makeover was overdue."

Wait, did that mean...

You deftly sidestep around Vicky and step into the hangar. The first plane you see is Vicky's Gripen. Along its fuselage and nose, you could see that Mead's crew had painted it to resemble the likeness of a very large and very angry swordfish.

"Don't looooooook!" Vicky wails.

"But I don't want to stand out!" Vicky wails.

"Then you picked the wrong line of work!" Mead laughs as she slaps Vicky on the back. "Pick up a few more kills with that paintjob, and the suitors will come piling in!"

"That makes things even worse!" Vicky whimpers.

"Of course!" You say, skipping around Vicky's Gripen so you can get a clear look at your Su-30.

At first glance, your Su-30 was still painted in the standard Belkan paint scheme, with the black stop half and grey bottom half separated by a thin yellow line. However, where a few subtle differences you noted. For example, your tailfins now sported crimson silhouettes of a raven, your squadron's namesake. In addition, the tips of the wings and ailerons were painted red in a way to resemble the feathered wingtips of a bird.

"I mean, your callsign was pretty self explanatory." Mead adds.

"I-It is pretty cool, yeah." Vicky nods in agreement.

"Well, I get the feeling you two got better things to do, so I'll get outta your hear." Mead gives a short wave as she moves off down the hangar to other planes in need of repair.

"S-so what do you need?" Vicky asks you.

"You didn't check your phone?" You raise an eyebrow.

"O-oh! I completely forgot!" Vicky fumbles with her pockets and takes it out, glancing at the screen. "Ohmygosh, I'm so sorry!"

"No worries, no worries." You grin as you wrap an arm around her shoulders. "We're just gonna go get a drink to celebrate your heroics during the last mission! You up for it?"

Once you reach the officer's club, you see Misono and Bandit already present. Misono waves eagerly while Bandit gives a silent acknowledging nod.

"Vicky! Congratulations on your five kills!" Misono beams. "If not for your previous kills, you would have made ace in a day!"

"So, Vicky." You glance at her. "What exactly did you do before becoming a pilot?"

"O-oh, well." Vicky pauses for a bit in the middle of her second bottle. "Um, well, I joined the Nordennvanic Royal Air Force right after getting out of school, so being a pilot is all I've ever known."

However, Vicky then smiles warmly.

"However, it did irk my parents, who were expecting me to follow their footsteps in the Royal Navy."

"Oh? You're from a military family?" Misono asks, her interest piqued.

"Um, kind of." Vicky shakes her head. "My mother served as a naval officer. My father's a ship engineer."

"So you decided to strike out on your own, huh?" You nod. "Takes some guts, that's for sure."

"It was really stressful, but they eventually came around!' Vicky beams. "Um, how about your parents?"

"Never knew them." You shrug. "The both died while I was young."

"Not really. Like I said, In ever actually knew them." You shrug.

Honestly, that was mostly true. Other than stories Grandpa imparted to you, you never actually knew much about them. Hell, you couldn't even remember what they looked like.

Misono and Vicky look at each other, clearly not quite convinced, but their silence means neither of them are willing to press the issue. Bandit, meanwhile, keeps a wary eye on the proceedings.

"Hey, so Vicky." You speak up, trying to change the subject. "Just wondering, but did your family have anything to do with carriers?"

"W-w-what makes you think that?!" Vicky blurts, nearly spitting a mouthful of beer out.

"Seems kinda obvious, given how into the Admiral Andersen you were." You shrug. "You at least got a passing interest in that type of ship, right?"

"W-well, I wouldn't say that." Vicky huffs, trying to regain some kind of composure. "But you're right. Thanks to Nordennvanic's manufacturing industry, my country produces a lot of specialized components for Osea's supercarriers. My father travels a lot, helping build them! He used to bring me aboard a few that he was working on in the past..."

You see Vicky's expression soften, as if warmly remembering some nice memories.

"S-so you see, that's why I've always had such an appreciation for them! Every single one has a bit of my father's work in them!"

Huh, that was interesting.

"Well, in that case..." You turn to the bartender. "Let's get us some Belkan brandy!"

"Hey now..." Bandit frowns.

"It's a special occasion!' You harumph. "I seem to remember you were eager to pass some to celebrate me joining the squadron!"

"A choice I still regret to this day." Bandit shakes his head.

"Giving her the brandy or her joining the squadron?" Misono wonders.

"Yes." Bandit answers bluntly.

"Ah, quit being such a killjoy, boss!' You grin as you grab the bottle and start pouring it out into glasses. "Drink up!"

And before you know it, it seems like your entire squadron passes out after their first glass, all of them slumping over in the seats, or in poor Vicky's case, falling down and faceplanting in to the bar. Not even Bandit was immune, nodding off to sleep. Guess he was human after alll.

Welp, guess you were the last one standing, yet again. Which meant more brandy for you!

You hum to yourself as you pour another glass. A nice little celebration, and a new paintjob for your plane? You were actually almost looking forward to your next mission...

>>
>>3724873
Yup we got a 19 to hold our drink, and everyone else did not get above a 10 for their first drink.
>>
>>3724873
I think we just did, and considering previous quests' attempts to stay up, I think only Milly and Jaeger succeeded.

So what are the odds that Milly's parents were Belkan R&D staff? If they are, maybe they have a few things lying around somewhere such as a perfect beverage that goes along with the super secret rations?

It was probably buried under a burning house when we left outer Belkan. Never to see the light of day again.
