In a world plunged into frozen chaos, you, Gaeleath Yesthyra, will find a cure for the Frostblight no matter what it takes. After some decent discoveries in the underground level of the spire, you have found something of worth for the two scavenger Neosm, earning you the right to 'keep' the spire. Juno, your darkling slave, was caught in a terrible situation which had escalated to direct confrontation with a group of humans. Their leader, Kajal, took most of your coin as a compensation and left his cowardly brother in your hands after learning the dark truth from your slave's mouth. You have tainted your hand with rotten blood, will it change you? This remains to be seen...

By the way, I'm not actually the QM. The actual QM ( !!zV8lJfPOoWh ) can't post images because of an IP range ban and had to get an anon to post the OP for him. He should be here, running the actual quest soon enough.

Also, a /tg/ drawfag drew a picture of our darkling slave Juno the other day. Nice job Rotaken!

This may be a bit of a weird question, but does it count as cannibalism in this setting if the meat isn't from the same species? I know some settings think its fine (treating it like a human eating dragon stew) and in others its straight up demonic shit.

Anyway,

A shovel was sorely needed, you made one using some scraps, the handle is bent a little bit but it will do...

>Your construction skill is increasing
>You have made a crude shovel out of 1 small and 1 medium iron scraps.

You have sent Juno with the Waterskin in the darker bellies of the spire. The possible threat of feral darkling down there was quite a problem. You told her not to fight any of them if she saw them again.

It was tedious to carry the ladder and put it at the right angle to descend to the lower levels. You really need another one. Actually, you might want to make two ladders; this one might give away soon enough due to your poor craftsmanship.

The fireflies continued their thing, flying aimlessly around occasionally bumping into each other. You recall how Juno was temporary blinded when she got too close to one of these buggers. They are generally slow but catching one can be quite tricky.

There were three resting near where the safe used to be. What glamorous thoughts do you have in mind?

>Think of a way to catch the fireflies without getting blinded [D??, Specify]

If I recall correctly, it's quite warm (for a frozen hellscape, that is) today, and we should take advantage of that with our crappy clothes and all. [tremendous success]

Within six hours, You have made it back to the shore, the fur is covering the hole in your coat. It is not perfect but it will do.

There were hints of a road amidst the unbearable snow. Lots of humans must have walked there on their way to their supposed settlement. You found a discarded wheel on the road with broken spokes...could be useful in one way or another.

>You have found a broken wooden wheel

No predators or humans in sight. Good. You thought it was a good time to use the Jardoun. It was a small disc of brass with three layers stacked on each other. You slide the first layer to open it revealing a strange compass with a small button. You pressed it only for the Jardoun to hiss some steam spawning four tiny legs before hopping out of your hands.

It kept bobbing up and down, hissing more steam, before making fast beeps. The indicator needle pointed to your right. The beeping has increased dramatically until...

What's this? Someone has dropped a bit of gold along the road. Yours now.

>You have found 119 gold

The needle kept twirling in all directions afterwards...no precious metals are nearby. You don't think it has a long range as you had thought before.

The third layer had a small counter for how much energy left in it. Such apparatuses can't have a full steam core in them, instead, they rely on smaller versions called steam pivots.

> Jardoun has now 9/10 uses before it needs another steam pivot

Everblossom was to your east, the valley leading to the labyrinthine was to the west. As for the north, you know little of it...there are a series of cragged mountains in the horizon. Flora wise, there were three distinct plants within sight: the highly flammable red string tree with its absurdly long leaves, numerous Blue rusted trees and several giant blue flowers with glistening stamens with a small aura of light...and an inviting smell. Strange...you don't seem to recall seeing these abnormally large flowers before...

Too bad you can't chop the tree with your knife. The axe would have been a much better choice.

as you were about to cut the stamen, the whole flower sprang out of the bitter snow! A large rat in disguise with teeth so vicious it can gnaw through rocks. It lunged forward, topping you off with ease.

"Gah, ugrahh!" Your hands grabbed its floral-infested head, barely keeping it from your face. You choose a perilous gamble when you went for your knife jabbing the bastard in the eye. It screeched in pain, backing away with the knife still in its eye. You stood up, your dazed mind was flooded with countless decisions...many of which could lead you to ruin. The other treacherous flowers remained still, watching you and their kin in silence..

>Scream for help
>Ran away to the icesheet, its stubby legs can't possibly outrun you

The arrow pierced its smaller head. The rodent went limp in mere seconds. The flower ontop of its back began to wither away before your eyes. Its once heavenly smell was replaced with a fetid bile of death which eventually started to ooze a black foul substance all over its black fur.

The other 'hidden' flowers scurried away from you squeaking in a high pitch until they were gone. The revolting carcass in front of you is giving you some doubts, you don't think it will be healthy to handle this corpse. Not everything in the wild is meant to be eaten or skinned...

What will you do about it?

>Leave it in its bubbling rot, you don't want anything with it (except your arrow and knife)

"Master Gag!" Juno took the warm leaves from your tired hands. It was a tiring trip to be sure.

The sister remain silent the whole time, still not accepting you as you as her equal. It should be the other way around, really. The dyad were soon to leave to their underwater home making a giant splash during their decent.

Finally, you can do some wor-

"...Juno, what are you doing?" Your slave was doing her best to chew off the chains of the locked room in the entrance.

"Must inside!" She exclaimed, her teeth WERE sharp but not to point to gnaw chains.

"Bad Juno...Bad!"

"P-poor Juno...bad?" She backed off in shame, sobbing from her mistake. Oh the fragility of that thing...

You have spent almost half of the day focusing on the main body. The hammer sure helped out shaping some of the parts together. You can't imagine how you would have done it with your bare hands only.

>Your Construction skill is greatly increasing

[Critical Failure!]

Juno, on the other hand, was too busy with a small boulder which was the main antagonizing force for the rest of the dead. Juno (Without your supervision) was hellbent on dislodging it.

She poured all of strength in the shovel until she accidentally snapped it in half triggering an avalanche of debris which...

1=has made a mess out of the entrance BUT, it greatly increase the progress. Nimble Juno is unharmed
2=has trapped the darkling under a wave of rubble, She looked more annoyed than hurt but she can't move.

"Master..." Juno tried to smile but she was too dizzy. It felt great saving her for a change. Your eyes were darting all over her, she looked fine except for that oozing injuries in her hunched back and a cut over her head.

The pustules on her back were popped off dripping their disgusting content on the floor. Juno groaned in protest gently shoving you aside.

"Spore Juice,,,open...bad for Master...Juno rest mound..." There were some fungi sprouting very slowly from her back.

"Juno rest mound?"

"Ye...Dead make poor...Juno...good." said the darkling , all slouched over.

Two were dangerously close to the edge at the third underground level. You thought that swinging your leaves blindly would eventually get one of them. Surely closing your eyes while doing so is the way to go...

In your blind lashes, you managed to caught a firefly! The sludge has hardened sending the flashy bug into neverending pain. It was still struggling to break free to no avail. Oh bloody hell, I was under the impression they were about the size of a goliath beetle, not many times the size of the infamous Carboniferous insects (grumble grumble square-cube law).

>>
>>3745159
Well, you used the other leaf as some sort of leash pinned between the outrageous pile of rubble. You were quite curious, what do these floating lamps eat? All they do is to buzz their wings here and there.

The bug was out of flashing lights, it had a dimmer one. You have a feeling that it might die real soon enough with that grievous injury in her wings. You certainly can't afford to feed it anything. Not a chance.

That was a very busy day, you had to relocate your bed as far as possible from Juno, her fungal mound is looking too...infectious to say the least.

Tornus, 11th of Uolk (Summer) (-9 Ar)
You woke up to the sound of a muffled scream. Terrified, you had your bow and knife at hand only to find Juno sleeping in her hazardous mound. Ugh, you must have been imagining things...

Your slave is out of commission for the time being. You doubt bringing her back to work is a good idea, you prefer to be spore-free. As for your firefly, It was barely clinging to life, its wound is now oozing a golden liquid....very similar to that one time you hooked into one of them last week. No lights what so ever. The not-so-little thing will surely perish soon enough.

While you were busy eating, the firefly crawled towards the chained door bumping its head at it. Strangely enough, it started to glow once more. You wonder....

Masdus, 11th of Uolk (Summer) (-6 Ar)

"Master!" cried a familiar voice before you returned to the land of the living.

"W-wwuh?" Juno was on top of you, radiating her usual warmth. Something was strange about her. She looked...younger and with more scales. The pustules were slowly growing back.

You struggled a bit to get out of the bed. "Need dead soon..." She muttered.

Right, another corpse for her fungal mound. You would bette-

"Juno! Stop!" It was too late, she swallowed the firefly by the time you made it to the surface. "Dead glowy, food!"

Her words betrayed her moments later when she threw up the squished carcass of the bug, The darkling shook her head trying to get rid of the golden ooze from her latest meal. You should have seen this coming.

"Friend?" Juno had finally noticed Adam who remained in the same spot you had left it.

"Yes, Adam: Juno friendly..." You pointed at your slave.

"...." Adam did the same, It didn't react when Juno gave it a lick on the face (Probably because it doesnt have a tongue)

Unlike Juno and Gaeleath, most automatons don't need rolls for their actions. They rely on Workforce (Or WF) to perform their actions. WF is the power inside them, each action will consume WF, the harder/winder the action, the more WF it will consume. WF is calculated per hour.

[Tremendous Success!]

No predators in sight, good. You saw more of these vile rats hidden under their floral disguise but you rightfully chose not to tangle with them.

However, unlike last time, you have found some prey. A...Saelmira?

Looks like it, except with a fuzzier fur. They are quite abundant in the everblossom (but you didn't have the right to hunt them, this was only reserved to the elite). Saelmira are small leporine creatures with pensile long whiskers capable of choking the life of an adult elf. They are generally peaceful creature unless provoked.

Now, you could just shoot it from afar for the whiskers...they have medical properties. However, the meat itself is stingy and almost inedible. The other choice at hand is a... courting dance, it will make shed its delicious fur with a sugary substance before it will be in heat.

It won't try to mate with you or anything, the dance itself will arouse the little creature. That is all. If you are going for this route, you must set aside your weapon, they will smell any ill intent on you.

It moved at last second, the arrow initially pinned down its fuzzy left foot but the leporine managed to break free bolting away deep into to the relative safety of the frozen forest. It was absurdly fast even with a crippled leg.

It should bleed out eventually and die in a slow, painful manner. Question is: are you willing to spend more time tracking it down? The trip back to the spire will take several hours at the very least...not to mention potential predators lured by the scent of an injured prey. You really despise travelling back without the guidance of the sun....who knows what does the darkness hide?

>track it down deep in the forest, the trail of blood should make it an easier task. This will consume some time but it is a risky endeavor

This was a risk you were not willing to take. You continued sulking about at the edge of the shore, hoping you would find another prey...

...and so you did. Another Saelmira standing on its whiskers to gain some height, shaking its fuzzy rump. This one was slimmer with a more colourful whiskers. A male so anxious to copulate that it is willing to endanger itself in the process. whatever your intent is, you ought to do it real quick you have already wasted too much time.

[Slight Failure]

You thought you were nimble enough to sretch out like so...alas, you almost broke your back in your dance. The only thing that was broken was your pride. Your spectator wasn't impressed at all. It simply ran away in frustration before you would consider grabbing your bow.

You leaned against one of the red string trees, your eyes are swelling with tears. A failure after another. You merely wish to have a single day without hardship, is this too much to ask?

"Hardly graceful for an elf, but you will do.." You turned your towards a sickly man wearing an enchanted feathered robe with unholy trinkets dangling from multiple chains around his chest and hip. You weren't sure if he could truly wield that scythe he was holding.

A necromancer, a dabbler in the art of the dead. His scrawny voice didn't match his old, decaying body. Behind him was a wall of flesh, a flesh golem of many limbs and heads murmuring in agony. It had a large carriage stitched to its back....a mobile home for this vile person.

"An exile i presume? Your kin barred me from entering your home, This everblossom. Shame, I was going to offer them my wares..."

"..." You remained silent, weapon at hand. Elves absolutely abhor necromancers. You are no exception; they offend nature and the strings of fate.

Your stomach growled in protest, causing the necromancer to laugh "Dancing for your meal is no good. i can tell! Oh your poor hungry elf...Innocence of a lamb lost in a slaughterhouse. Ahaen can offer your some meat." he paused, a devilish grin arching over his mouth "In exchange for some meat of yours...Care to indulge in my fantasies? I have never had an elf before..."

"...!" You held your tongue, fearing the worst of him "Are you afraid? You shouldn't, My corpses are merely found on the road. I engage in murder only in self-defense unlike most of brethren. If i wanted your delicious flesh by force, we wouldn't have this delightful conversation in the first place."

The meat Goliath took a knee(s), lowering its back as the necromancer opened the carriage extending his pale hand for you "Shall we?"

"We shall meet again..."The colossus has left with its maniacal master. So many things could have gone wrong. A sigh of relief has escaped your lips, You had no strength in your to resume your hunt. Empty handed, you took the way back to the spire.
.
.

You couldn't believe your eyes when you entered the spire. Almost all of the rubble has been cleared out! You can see actual stairs!

Juno pounced on you playfully "Master! Master! Juno and Maniron good?"

She pointed at various objects found in their excavations

>Clearing the way is now 87/100

>Adam's WF is now depleted (0/100)
>Adam has learned dig and carry
>Adam has worked for 10 hours, 1 hour= 5 progress in clearing the way.
>Each single hour of the command dig has cost Adam 10 WF

Juno and Adam have found
>Rubble (300)
>Broken Tool (Crude shovel, from their constant work)
>3 Small iron scraps
>1 Large iron sheet
>1 Golden necklace
>1 Strange glove?
>1 Blue ribbon key
>34 Gold

You could barely walk in the main entrance; the dyad did little to organize their mess. The rubble was littered all over the place. What would you want Juno to do about it?

We'll work on bricking up the entrance tomorrow, and store downstairs all the stuff we don't use then. How much WF does Adam gain per hour of being rewound?

We don't need a full workforce Adam tomorrow. She can get a bit of sleep so tomorrow she'll have the strength to clear the mess (I'm thinking to the lower levels)
>>
>>3750532
Actually support this. We can teach Adam construction tomorrow, and it should be a lighter duty than digging rubble so the charge should last most of the day at least.
>>
>>3750532
>>3750549
You had one last thing to do before sleeping: rewinding Adam. It was very tedious and uncomfortable to do for three hours. When that was done, you set Adam to idle before going to bed.

>Adam's WF is now 18/100

>>
>>3750629
Actions:
1st: Hunt something in the mainland to get a corpse and some food
2nd: Cook the meat we have
3rd: Clear out some of the rubble before night
Juno: Come with us and help forage/carry stuff
Adam: Keep clearing the way
>>
>>3750891
What about water? We'll be out by tomorrow unless we get some today. Also Adam needs 26WF to finish the clearing, so we should have Juno spend a short amount of time winding him up to that number before we set out.
>>
>>3750915
I was thinking we'd be better off trying to get Juno a corpse ASAP so she's above 30%. I'm afraid if we send her off to get water we'll roll a 24 or something and have her die or get injured further. What do you think, though?

Also, not against having Juno spend an hour or whatever it takes to get Adam enough strength to clear things up.
>>
>>3750915
>>3750923
what will it be?
>>
>>3750923
I was under the impression a lower efficiency just meant she was less effective at the task rather than more likely to fail. But she still can't get much done at 30%. We'll need to ration our water and stick to light activities tomorrow to make it last long enough for Juno to get us some.

So, after whichever of us is better winds Adam up a bit, she comes with us with the axe as an escort and porter. If we don't find anything that needs hauling, she can chop some plants or wood.
>>
>>3750955
What we really need at some point is an automaton that digs for water or for some way to remove the frostblight from the snow.
>>
>>3750955
Also, forgot to say that I agree with the plan of having us go to the mainland with Juno after she winds up Adam for an hour or two or however long it takes to let him clear the rest of the rubble. During the windup we can move some of the rubble outside (the tertiary action from before)

[Slight failure]

First things first, you ordered Juno to wind up Adam while you remove some rubble. There was a slight problem; you had no shovel at your disposal. That didn't avert you from picking up the little bits, anything your hand could carry.

>Clearing the way is now 88/100

Adam would have to do the same, It will be less efficient but unlike you, It won't get tired.

>Adam's WF is now 24/100
.
.

Juno has slowed you down immensely, without her radiating warmth (and any protective clothes to speak of), she was quite vulnerable to the cruel weather. It took you more than usual to reach the shore. Now, your original plan was to hunt anything for food but this was quickly to change when you spotted two Faroi setting up some sort of a trap on the road. A man with a broken horn and a giant slab of iron as his sword and a women with a sickle and a dagger. Both of them were too busy to notice you,You quickly ordered Juno to hide behind a fallen tree.

"M-m-aster...Home? Pleaase?"

"Sssh...Juno no Voice. Juno Calm.." She was already trembling from their sight. This Ttysarl she spoke about has left a mental scar in her fragile mind. She is near helpless against any giant.

This trap was hidden under the snow in the middle of the road. Moments later, A human arrived on a horseback pointing to the east, there was a caravan (or so you assumed) of sorts coming this way through the horizon.

The human was nimble enough to climb up one of those red string trees, hiding amongst its higher branches. As for the giants, they pulled out a small totem changing their form to an innocent tree in a flash. An ambush in the making...

Well, I suppose hoping innocent people die in an ambush is one way to get a corpse. Hopefully we can get some blood from the corpses.
>>

>Stay where you are, watch the ambush in utter silence
Pick up a corpse when they're done. While it would be great if we could save them, it's not a fight we can win. If we intervene, odds are we will end up dead, minus possessions or with even more enemies to bite us in the ass later, whichever side we end up on.

Doing anything but hiding is suicide. You will witness their vile deed and maybe get something out of this mess.

A thousand thoughts raced inside your head; are you going to allow innocent people to die? Innocent? What does innocent mean? No, no, no...you are not the one to kill them. Yes, you are simply reaping an opportunity. This is the sole truth.

Whatever foundation of conviction you had built was beginning to crumble when the caravan drew close. Two wagons, surrounded by five horsemen.

Kajal was at the lead.

The same man who lost his child and his beloved, the same man who had forgiven your slave. The same man who had called off your demise. He had a little girl riding with him, both oblivious of the hidden trap and their ultimate demise.

You heart was about to burst, Who are they? Your life is worth more than them! YOU will find the cure to the frostblight. They will amount to nothing in their short, fleeting lives! They are but humans miring in their own dung! A slave's life is always worthless to a superior race!

Yes, yes! Rational mind of yours, damp your bleeding heart, damp every suicidal tendency born out of your morality. You will prevail. It is written in your blood...

You....

[Great Success]

"KAJAL! AMBUSH!" Your lungs were on fire as you popped out of your hiding spot. Your arrow whizzed into the air straight into the bandit's neck.

"TRAP! TRAP! THE TREES!" The man recognized your words immediately backing up just before hitting trap. The rest of the horsmen saw through the suspicious pile of snow just in time for the giant's facade to fade. The one with the sword cleaved the horse's head in a single swing before Kajal would jump out of harm's way with the child.

Chaos anew, The male giant didn't flinch when a fireball smoldered his chest, he continued his rampage onwards with the rest of horsemen. Kajal quickly dropped the little girl into the safety of the wagons before joining the fray.

"TOOOKALA MOTONAH!!!" The giant woman lunged onwards crushing the fallen tree under a thunderous stomp. Her sickle and dagger scrapping your previous spot as you rolled away at the last moment. Your panicked eyes darted over Juno who was still cowering in fear.

"Juno!" You called your darkling, She was too petrified to respond. You hastily fired a flimsy arrow at the enraged giant missing her plump face by a wide berth.

"FALALMOW, TIENK!" Her dagger almost split you in half...your second roll was sloppy rewarding you with a grab with her now free hand.

The Faroi dropped her large dagger as well, her other calloused hand grabbed your lower half. She was ready to twist your body as she increased the pressure on your delicate body.

"J-jun--o..argh....hrkk." You couldn't breathe, you couldn't scream, the world was growing darker and darker...the end?

A screech of pain. Hers, the giant was tumbling to the ground. You dropped like a lifeless brick on the frozen ground, motionless.

From your perspective, Kajal was a towering hero, Juno's orcish greataxe in hand dripping giant blood "Can you stand?"

You coughed to seemingly no end before the human helped you to get up. The giant had her back of the knee cleaved wide open withering and cursing in her native tongue.

"Get your dark spawn moving! The men can hold out the giant no longer! We need her, now!" barked the man, a quick glance over the other side showed an entrail of horses, men barely fighting for their lives. Juno hid her head under her arms, still in the same spot.

"I..."

"N-" You slapped her again, you yanked her hair to show her the raging giants "JUNO, ATTACK!"

She kept slamming the ground with her deformed hands, her tears still running "MASTER, MAAAAAASTER, RRAAAWWROGH!!"

She actually tried to dig her rotten teeth into your neck before she would restrain herself. Off she went, crying in uncontrollable rage. You couldn't believe how fast she was as she leaping over the giant's back tearing off chunks of flesh with each bite. This gave the horsemen a glimmer of hope against this unstoppable force.

Kajal on the other hand was overwhelmed by his oversized foe, Juno's battle axe was split into two. He had nothing on his but a shortsword to defend himself.

[Great Success]

You fired a barrage of arrows at the crippled giant, your aim was true for the most part. Only a single arrow has truly made a different when it gouged her left eye giving Kajal the prime chance to run his shortsword straight into her neck. He kept slicing through until he was fully smeared in thick, hot blood.

There was no time of celebration, both of you rushed towards the main road. Of the five horsemen, only a single horse and two men has survived this onslaught. The two men (A man of the Arcanus and another with a bloody mace) rested against an actual tree laughing. Why, what else could they do after surviving an ambush?

When all was clear, the two wagons had arrived .It was mostly a pitiful combination of women and children with some elderly here and there. A little boy screamed in horror pointing to the carcass of the male giant.

Juno was still tearing through its lifeless flesh, essentially burrowing inside clawing out bits and pieces indiscriminately. Both Kajal and the surviving men (who had seen her fine work ) assured that the 'dark spawn' is harmless to the frightened crowd.

Kajal spat on the Faroi, still tense from the onslaught, he slowly turned his head to you "Should we be alarmed of your spawn, Gaeleath ? It is scaring everyone else..."

You looked at their eyes...brimmed with fear. The women couldn't take a step further to mourn over what is left of their dead.

"She is not feasting.." The statement had some truth in it, she didn't stop at all while she ripped and tore. Bits of flesh and organs kept flying outside. Still, you stand with your decision. No need to disturb her.

"ALL YOUR FAULT!" shouted a old woman with a small knife (similar to yours) when she tried to stab you. Kajal did pin her down before she could reach you.

"BANDIT, SHE IS A BANDIT."

"You see any ram on her clothes, Gerlie? She is not a Usoloc." Said Kajal. The woman eventually calmed down.

"Thank you,er who is this Usoloc?" You never heard this name before.

"The one responsible for this mess," He replied "A Giant bandit leader who has established himself here a few months ago. He makes fortune out of caravans like this. Anyone with a ram symbol on their clothes is your enemy.."

You helped Kajal and the other two (Mace lad is Saiden, Man of Arcanus is Oujle) to grab the bodies away from the berserk darkling. Finally, the rest can deal with the deceased Everyone was tired, the trio had their eyes on the not-so-hidden trap.

"We'll have to set camp here for the night. Damn it all, Joucas...you were the brightest of us all."

"Joucas was our Machinus fellow, He knew how to deal with traps like these..." Saiden briefly gazed at the newly buried graves, surrounded by grieving women.

"You think you can handle it, Elf lady? I am afraid if i tried to hurl a fire orb at it, things will get much worse..." Oujle proposed, scratching the back of his head.

"She has done enough, we will have to circle around it." Kajal stated. You looked at the two wagons, their current state was shameful, the wheels were at the verge of breaking down at any given moment. The terrain didn't help either.

You lacked any knowledge to disarm the trap and so you kept your mouth shut. Kajal did put an improvised warning sign for future travelers. The sun was returning to its hidden domain, Juno was STILL hacking and slashing. What compels her to be so fanatic about this?

When the tension in the air was starting to dissipate, it was time to set up camp. Both the women and the child proved to be more than sufficient in that regard. Tents were erected, campfire was licking the skies. A meal was being prepared.

Saiden has left the camp to scout the area while Oujile was hoping to find the bandit's camp nearby. You and Kajal were to strip the bandits in an ironic fashion. He brought a bowl of warm water to wash your face, you desperately needed that.

"I will leave what is on this filth for you. This caravan used to be of four wagons, we need everything we can find.." You were slightly distraught from this outcome, if only you had a bit of patience "...I haven't forget what you and your dark spawn have done. We need an effective melee weapon and some armour if we can get it, and this dude might just have them. Also take with us literally anything they don't.

When we return to our spire, we can reforge the battleaxe as well as any other weapons since we have the tools. Originally, you wanted to leave but the fact that your slave has outright collapsed out of exhaustion combined with the looming darkness has changed your mind. Kajal actually invited you to stay here for the night. It couldn't have been more convenient than that.

Saiden and Oujle have returned with mixed news; there were no nearby predators but the bandit's empty camp was no where to be found nearby. Good enough.

You sat close to the fire, It was no ordinary fire; the children were occasionally spraying some blue powder on it. When asked, a gullible child told you that this will conceal the light and the warmth of the fire to outsiders. Smart move.

Ah yes, a proper stew with vegetables. The smell was heavenly, You anxiously waited for your turn. It burned your tongue but the food was worth it, no doubt.

"What brings you here? Were you truly working with the bandits?" Asked Kajal, Half-Jokingly.

"I was out for some hunting when i stumbled upon them. It was the right thing to do."

"Fate intertwines our strings once more...to your health, Gaeleath. Elf of the spire" He raised a cup of spirits for you. You did the same, the taste didn't matter; anything but water to drink was a bliss. It wasn't strong enough to make your head swirl, Elven wine would put it to shame. Oh well...

You brought a warm plate to Juno after she regained her consciousness. The darkling was weak after hours of needless work. She still remained inside the giant so you had to do a bit of climbing to reach her. She didn't say anything as she snatched the plate from your hands. Very concerning.

When that was done, you sat down with the rest of the humans. The women didn't trust you at all while the children have found another plaything to toy with. You didn't mind their cheerfulness. An infant was something to behold in ever blossom due to the abysmal birthrates.

The rest of the night was spent with Kajal and his men who were less gloomy that the rest of the camp. They had seen death many atimes. It wasn't their intent to disrespect the dead, instead of mourning, they raised their cups in their memory.

Night cometh, Everyone was going to sleep. Kajal was by himself, getting prepared for his guard duty.

"Can we...?" He wanted to talk with you privately. You didn't mind following his to a empty tent where he revealed a sack of coins.

Yours.

Before you would thank him, Something was sneaking in the shadows nearby, Kajal had his weapon at the ready. His defensive stance has vanquished when this possible threat showed itself.

It was the bandit's horse who had slipped away during the fight. It was rather slim with thick grey fur to counter the bitter cold and a long tail barely touching the ground. The human slowly approached the exhausted horse before patting it to instill some lost comfort in its troubled mind.

"There, there.." He briefly went into his tent bringing some dried carrots for the horse. They were gone in a blink of an eye. "We'll tale care of you."

The caravan has lost so many horses today. It will greatly help those poor folks to reach their destination. Then again, if you can have it for yourself, life would be so much easier....

Title: Frozen Civ Quest 4 [Redux]
OP: In a world plunged into frozen chaos, you, Gaeleath Yesthyra, will find a cure for the Frostblight no matter what it takes. You finally managed to construct your very first automaton, after various treks to the unforgiving shore, you stumbled upon a group of bandits setting an ambush. You ignored your primal instincts and warned the incoming caravan of their incoming doom after seeing Kajal at its lead. During the fight, you slapped and smacked your darkling slave to dispel her irrational fear of giants sending her into a much needed frenzy. You and the humans have prevailed. The caravan is safe.
