Last time, you dealt with a weird guy, managed to finish a DnD campaign, had to take care of a drunk trashy girl and had a heart to heart with Maggie.

Currently, you informed both of your team members about the looming threat that’s Vender Duss, one of Aleister’s friends. He wants something, but you’re not sure how it relates with what’s happening.

[DAY 10/TUESDAY]

It’s night time, you’re currently outside of the cabin as you heard someone trespassing in what you consider part of the cabin’s property. Both Maggie and Catastrovania heard it as well, so it’s not like you are acting crazy.

Despite all that, you don’t seem to be finding anything except for these very suspicious looking footprints on the sand. They are leading somewhere. Both Maggie and Catastrovania are following you with a little distance behind. So whatever it is, you can trust the girls to help you. On the other hand, why even bother?

What do you do?

>Follow the footsteps! There is something going on and you won’t rest until you know what it is.
>Go back to the cabin. Feels like a waste of time and tomorrow you wake up early.

“Whatever that was, it’s already too late for us to do anything that isn’t purely a waste of our time.” You decisively put into simple terms. “Let’s return to the cabin.”
“B-But Allie, I’m super sure I heard someone say my name...” Maggie isn’t comfortable with this decision.
“Maggie, you need to learn how not to pay attention to the voices in your head like the rest of us.”

“Valid advice, but I don’t think this is the issue here…” Catastrovania chimes in.
“I mean, if like Allie says it’s fine, it’s probably fine, right? The other day we didn’t hear Spectralhound coming in, so… Maybe it’s all in my head, haha.” Maggie rubs her arm as she chuckles.
“While being here in the darkness is preferable for a powerful being, I think being inside the cabin is safer for people like you!” Catastrovania starts walking back to the cabin while dragging Maggie along as she can’t mask correctly that she’s scared, you follow them inside.

Inside the cabin, you cannot help but to feel unease, there is something in the air…

“Catastrovania Strifaust Morituros IX? You did foresee all of this, right? I-Is it really safe…?” The naïve Maggie wonders.
“Huuuuh, I’m too tired to check!” Catastrovania the fraud looks away.
“Then let’s get into bed.” You propose. It was a long day.

“Uhm… Allie, I’m a little s-scared…” Maggie is very upfront about this. “C-Could you sleep in the same room with us tonight? If t-that’s okay with Catastrovania…”

How do you respond?

>“Maggie, you’re 18. You can handle this.”
>“In the same bed…?” Not again…
>“Help me bring my bed there then...” There are 2 beds in each room, having 3 in one isn’t an issue, really.

“Help me bring my bed there then…” There are two beds in each room, having three in one isn’t an issue, really. Just to make these two feel safer.
“Woah, Allie! You’re awesome! Thanks!” Maggie is all sorts of happy and relieved. “C’mon, Catastrovania Strifaust Morituros IX! Help me out!” Maggie grabs Cat’s arm and drags her to your room.
“I haven’t agreed to a-anything!” The eccentric gal yells as she’s being pulled out. Eventually she did though.

Aside from the cabin making creaking sounds during random moments in the night, mainly thanks to the wind, nothing noteworthy happened.

[DAY 11/WEDNESDAY]

Another new day for training. To your mild amusement, Maggie was full of enthusiasm all morning, which translated to her helping everyone out in any way she could: from waking you up nicely, cleaning the dishes, and even making breakfast! It wasn’t the best, but it’s the thought that counts. Even Catastrovania felt more upbeat this morning.

It went away for the cat girl when the actual training began, she was so close to finish this time, but she fell through at the end and you had to carry her. Catastrovania was so close, you didn’t feel as strongly about your discomfort with her not being able to do the full run. Unlike Cat, Maggie didn’t lose a beat though! Almost acting like a fitness instructor in a training routine video! She’s still really cheerful.

You gained +2 Fitness experience points for doing your morning exercises. Congratulations, you reached Lv. 4!

You’re the last one, but you went through a cool shower. Now that you’re as clean as a whistle, you should decide what to do with the rest of your day. With how things with Ugolino went yesterday, you have money to spare now.

“Maggie, I want to reward you for your behavior today. Is there anything you want to do?” You approach your ex-classmate and ask her directly.
“Just the two of us?” Maggie tilts her head. You don’t react. “Y-You’re supposed to act like embarrassed. Sheesh…”
“Are you trying to gain time by talking because you can’t come up with something right now?”
“Y-Yeah…” Maggie painfully admits.

“Take your time.” You dryly reassure.
“Uhm… It’s hard to come up with anything that doesn’t require spending some big bucks.” Maggie clarifies. “Like I don’t know where else to go, the beach is cool and all, but…”
“I understand.”

“You do? Cool. ‘Cause I think it’s better if you like come up with something this time! I would love to do something you want to do together that isn’t training! Honestly I’m pretty awful askin’ you this now. But better never than late…! Wait! Change that! You get me?” Maggie gets a little nervous at the end there. “Let’s walk around town.” You propose. No money wasted and a beautiful opportunity to know Naramatsunai while you can.
“That works for me!” Maggie’s cheerfulness won’t go away easily today.

“Hey Cat, want to walk around town?” You inquire the dingy habitant of the night.
“W-We just came back from joggin’! My tenebrous energy needs recharging!” Catastrovania, the lazy girl, doesn’t want to do it. “How am I going to be able to contact my DISMAL FIENDS OF DARKNESS if I stay outside in the daylight?! …and without Wi-Fi.”
“Wasn’t it a secret network of spies?” Maggie tilts her head.

“That’s an intelligence agency, Margaret! I’m talking about gathering life force to sustain my INCREDIBLE but fairly unreliable POWER OF DARKNESS!” Catastrovania boasts.
“C’mon, it’ll be fun!” Maggie insists.
“No.” Catastrovania looks away like a little spoiled brat.

“We’ll get you another Reese’s bar.” That’s your best bargain.
“I will accept under these new conditions. Nothing brings more vigor to the creatures of the night than peanut butter goodness!” You’re sure Cat is talking bullshit.
“Hooray!” Maggie celebrates with a little skip.

The coastal town of Naramatsunai has proven again to be a second-rate version of good ol’ Laoling. The decadent infrastructure makes you believe at one point this town was more than another forgettable location in the countryside, but it’s golden age is sure gone. There is a little theater, a couple of bars, a big plaza, a shopping district, a library, even a school! Despite these comments, there are far more people walking around the streets than you expected. Maybe you’re past it’s peak, but there is a long time for the town’s expiration date to come.

“Look a cute bird!” Maggie takes another pic of another animal with her phone.
“…At least it’s not another stray cat.” Catastrovania points out.
“So you’re tired of being the center of attention?” You deadpan.
“Huh? What do you mean?” Cat is confused. She takes the Reese’s bar you bought for her and starts hammering it down.

“What’s wrong with takin’ pics? It’s not like we leave Laoling every day!” Maggie is enjoying her time.
“I’m fairly sure those types of birds are in Laoling as well...” Cat seems moody today.
“R-Really?! We have finches in Laoling?!” Maggie is sure surprised. “I haven’t done bird watching since I was little so I don’t remember shit...”
“Hey, Alfred. My feet kinda hurt, can we please stop somewhere for a minute?” Catastrovania asks you like you’re the tour guide.

What do you do?

“Let’s go in there.” You point to the movie theater nearby. “I can afford the tickets but that’s it.”
“What kind of movie are we watching?” Catastrovania is now excited. What a turnaround from moments ago.
“We’ll see. We still don’t know if the prices are a scam.” You don’t trust little town prices. Your father said they always overcharge.
“Did I tell you when I worked at a Moviedrivethru?” That’s a movie theater chain. “I lasted like a month ‘cause I ate popcorn all the time and I was losing them money.”

“That’s a lot of popcorn I assume.” Catastrovania is impressed.
“Yeah! It was my everyday lunch!”
“So you really like popcorn that much?”
“No! But it’s not like I had any other choice, it was better than eatin’ nothing!” There is something sad about what Maggie just said.

“R-Right…” Catastrovania seems in mild discomfort.
“We’re not indulging in your old habits today anyway.” You reassure as the three of you walk towards the theater.

You’re at the ticket stand and wondering what movie to watch. The place is far from full, but again, more people than you expected. Maybe you’re underestimating Naramatsunai a lot.

You appear next to the girls with the movie tickets in hand, the screening starts in a few minutes.

“I believe I selected a suitable film for the appropriate current market value.” You hand the girls their tickets despite being a waste of time because they are going to ask you for them in a few seconds when you get inside.
“What movie is it?” Catastrovania wonders.
I really know what you did last summer, so stop being skeptic and die. It’s a horror movie.”

“That’s a mouthful. I heard about this one! I think it will be more than suitable.” Catastrovania is fairly excited.
“Woah, I haven’t watched a horror movie in a long while! Hehehe…” Maggie nervous chuckles tell another story that her enthusiasm is trying to hide.
“Then let’s go.” You walk forward to your destination.

After sitting in a mildly comfortable set of chairs and 15 minutes of terrible commercials, your movie is about to begin.

It was a slasher movie about a killer taking brutal revenge for some perceived wrong done to him. Your Level 3 Courage was enough to not show you being afraid of a fiction piece and keeping your aura of stoicness intact. Your biggest complaint about the movie is that they made the remorseless killer too sympathetic.

You Earned +2 Courage Experience Points for watching a new Horror movie that was legitimately scary You’re halfway there for next level!

“Woah, that was really dope!” Catastrovania happily exclaims as her legs still wobble from fright. “Did you two like the movie?”
“It sure didn’t disappoint in the scary department.” You agree with Cat’s initial comment.

“It was alright.” Maggie with the hot take of the night, she’s pretending she wasn’t scared.
“Oh? No need to lie, scaredy-cat! I saw you holding Al’s arm the whole time!” Catastrovania, the one more fitting for the title scaredy-cat, points at Maggie.
“How can you tell?! You were covering your eyes the entire movie!” Maggie fights back.
“W-What?! L-Lies and slander! I have something in my eye! The other is covered up the whole time! That’s how I charge my energy!” Catastrovania retorts.

“I saw you without it a couple of times before!” Maggie retorts back.
“Nu-huh! You’ll suffer greatly for this disrespect!”

“Don’t curse your own party members…” You stop Catastrovania from doing something not only annoying, but ineffective.
“Anyway, the bad guy was kinda cute, don’t you think?” Maggie points out.
“No. I don’t...” Catastrovania is weirded out. “I have more horror movies in my laptop if you guys wanna watch more!”

“I’m f-fine for the day.” Maggie rejects the idea. “Hey A-Allie, do you mind sleepin’ again with us t-today?”
“We’ll see…” You just don’t want to be unnecessarily antagonistic right now.

“Anyway, let’s go back to the cabin! I’m beat!” Maggie yawns loudly. It’s about to get to nighttime.

“Sure.” You agree, today might be the day you will be able to sleep well again.

Since Catastrovania had no buts to say to this, you all walk back to the cabin to enjoy the comforts of the dwell you have to keep paying for.

…But to your disappointment, someone interrupted your safe walk back home – yesterday’s nuisance and Aleister’s friend: Vender Duss. You’re currently at the beach entrance, not too far away from the cabin. The dweeb here is sporting an odd vacuum on his back, aside from that he looks the same as yesterday.

“I hope you three have enjoyed a wonderful evening together!” Vender opens his arms wide like a second-rate villain would.
“Ew! It’s you!” Maggie exclaims with complete disgust.
“E-Ew?!” Vender looks fairly offended. “Hey, turn that frown upside-down, it’s me who we’re talking here.”

“Is that the Vender guy you talked about?” Catastrovania whispers next to your ear. You just nod in response.
“Precisely!” Vender claps amused.
“Could you leave us alone?” You sternly but politely ask.

“After all the charades from yesterday, you expect me to go along with what a liar says, Alfred Brown? How naïve.” Vender somehow knows your name. “You’re the man who was creeping on Aleister a few days ago, right? With all yesterday’s talk, I thought you were just misguided, but you’re just plain stupid. I should’ve put an eye on you from the start like Aleister said, well lesson learned! He’s always right for a reason!” You want to shut his face. “By the way, Siske was at the bar yesterday. I couldn’t believe you guys called the police on me so I couldn’t make my move, how cruel. But that doesn’t matter, I’ll have a chat with her later when I have the time. The real prize is in front of me right now.” Vender winks at Maggie.

“Ew.” Maggie moves closer behind you.
“Stop saying that, be respectful! I mean, I wouldn’t expect anything different from a naughty girl like you, Maggie. You’re still not a proper lady yet, but I can help you with that.”

“You’re not leaving a good impression with all your creepiness…” Catastrovania comments.
“A true gentleman looks out of place in front of the wrong crowd, so I’ll take it as a compliment.” Vender cheekily says back. “But since we’re talking about giving bad impressions, with all due respect, I can introduce you to a professional dressmaker if you like because we are well aware that what you’re wearing is... a sardonic take in good taste.”
“Ngh…” Vender struck a nerve on Cat.

“Fantastic, now that we have a moment of silence, I would like you all to hear what I’m ab—”
“Just move out of the way, creep!” Maggie shouts, her patience ran thin.
“Woah! Interrupting people as well? As a proper old fashioned gentleman, I’m really going to enjoy training you, my naughty girl!” Vender scoffs at Maggie.

“Enough of this. Move out of the way.” You are tired of his prattle.
“Hey, I’ve been trying to get to the point for a while, but you keep interrupting me.” Vender pouts. “Margaret Duchemin, you’re the one responsible for uploading that terrible tape all over the internet, so it’s my duty to make you confess of all your wrongdoings to the public – then be punished accordingly!” Vender proclaims. “Such a nasty woman, you are. Thinking you can get away with this and all! One greedy naughty girl indeed… Hand her over and I’ll leave you two alone, or else you will face the consequences. And let me tell you, calling the cops won’t work this time.” Now he’s threatening you.

“You're assuming she's the one who uploaded that in the first place. I can tell you who really did, but only if you're willing to answer one of my questions.” You want to take advantage of Vender’s grandstanding and cheese info from him.
“We established long ago you’re a liar, Mr. Brown. You’re probably planning on taking the blame for Maggie like a moronic white knight or something equally ridiculous. It’s quite pathetic, really. You should be able to tell she’s manipulating you.” Vender shrugs. His idiocy knows no bounds.

“Thanks for the tip.” You pull your phone and take a picture of Vender. As soon as you try to write a message in it for Camilo, the phone gets sucked by Vender’s vacuum cleaner!

“Whoops.” Vender sarcastically says.
“Give that back.” You proceed to the next logical step: threatening him. Vender smacks you with his Vacuum. He’s fast! “Ngh…!” You stagger for a second and walk one step back. You lose 1 Hit Point.

[NEW Combat Rules]

-It’s Turn Based combat.
-The Objective is for your party’s units to incapacitate all the enemy’s units.
-To incapacitate a unit you need to drain their Hit Points (HP) to 0.
-Other ways to win is by your opponent surrendering or escaping the battle (You can do the same, but you obviously lose.)

-Turn Order is determined by how the Battle began in story. Otherwise, whoever has more FIT points is the first attacker and so forth.

For example: If you sneak attack someone you are first! But if you get sneak attacked, you go last...

Combat is divided in 2 phases:

First Phase

You decide what actions to take and order your party members around. Then see how it plays out.

As the Main Character, you decide what action to take between these 4:

-Attack: Select an enemy target and throw the dice to see how much damage you do to it (dice faces depending on the attack). Opponent has a chance to mitigate damage or evade it all (dice dependent as well).
-Skill: Your Skills have use now! You can use each individually once per fight! Skills don’t require rolls unless said otherwise.
-Item: Use an Item you have. Effects vary on the items. These don’t require dice rolls.
-Escape: Throw the dice; the higher the number, the higher the chances of escaping. Opponent has a chance to keep you in battle (dice dependent as well).

You also need to decide between “Defend” or “Evade” if you chose to stay in battle. After both actions have been settled, I’ll ask for the respective dice rolls:

—Defend: You roll the dice, the damage you receive is the attacker’s roll minus the roll you threw, if you manage to surpass his number, you will still receive 1 damage regardless.
—Evade: You roll the dice, if your number is higher than the attacker’s number; you get to dodge all damage. Else, you suffer it all.

In case anyone tries to escape, the other party can select between “Chase” or “Don’t Chase.”

—Chase: Both the Characters throw the dice, if the one who is chasing gets a higher number he won’t let the other escape. Otherwise the fight is over.
—Don’t Chase: Automatically the opponent escapes. The party who stays win by default.

As for your party members, you can instruct them on what to do, they have their own agency – so there is a chance they won’t do anything. The actions are pretty self-explanatory (Attack, Support and Stay out of Trouble.)

The Second Phase is to see how everything pans out. I will ask for rolls if necessary (like the enemy trying to escape or something.)

Fighting Stats and You.

Each individual character has Fighting Stats, each one of them (Except HP) help the dice rolls as modifiers! For each point, you get an additional point to your dice roll. Rolls won’t go to negative numbers, the least you can have is 0.

For Example: You have +1 in Attack and you rolled 3, you do 4 damage!
Another Example: You have -1 in Attack and you rolled 2, you do 1 damage…

STR: Adds to your Attacking Rolls.
DEF: Adds to your Defending Rolls.
EVD: Adds to your Evasion Rolls.
SPD: Adds to your Chasing and Escaping Rolls. Also determines Turn Order.

IT’S TIME TO FIGHT!

Vender wants to fight! He has his eyes primarily on you. He has that stupid vacuum…

(Thanks to the Passive Skills you have gathered, you have cool new abilities that you can use once per fight!)

This is Alfred’s skillset:

Sewing Lv.04: Hits for 2 True Damage. Doesn’t let the enemy escape for the entirety of the battle, and your opponent can’t dodge next turn.
Cooking Lv.01: Heals one ally for 2 HP.
Karate Lv.03: Roll 4d4 for Damage.
Driving Lv.01: You gain +1 in SPD for 3 turns.
Bartending Lv.02: Your Party gains +1 in DEF for 3 turns.

(Depending on how much damage you took, Alfred and the party members will either feel tired and need to rest, or need some medical attention.)

Alfred delivers the finishing blow and leaves Vender incapacitated!

“Argh… This is improbable! How…?!” Vender complains! His body finally gives up and his vacuum seems to be malfunctioning.

“Fufufu! – I suppose even a fool like you couldn’t bear to withstand my POCKET SANDSTORM! Could you?” Catastrovania boats with her fake laugh like she always does, posing and looking down on Vender. He just looks away regretting every decision he has taken until this point.
“That was rather easy.” You proclaim almost uninterested. It was a 3v1, despite feeling like a 1v1 for most of the fight.
“Eat shit, Vender! You are utterly pathetic!” Maggie joins Catastrovania’s victory celebration. Then she takes pics of the defeated man.

“This wasn’t supposed to happen…” Vender complains. “H-Hey, d-don’t touch me..!”
“Here!” Catastrovania hands you your phone back after opening Vender’s vacuum. It has a missing call.
“Thanks.”

“So what do we do with this bastard?” Maggie

The spoils of war are for the taking.

What do you do?

>Destroy Vender’s vacuum.

Support this. Let the message be something like "Aleister your days of private property destruction and rampart life ruining are numbered"
>>
Why don't we tie up Vender and hand him over to the police?
>>

That's what I suggested in >>3746171. Minus the tie up part cause we don't have any rope and knocking him out will suffice

Honestly, I would say knock him out first, then proceed to sabotage his vacuum. Mess it up so it will either explode or break the moment he uses it. For all we know, he might have multiple vacuums considering his connections. Make it so the next time he attacks, he suffers some blowback.

“Leave him to me.” You get closer to Vender and take his Vacuum off.
“S-Stop! You low-life thief!” Vender shouts.

You smash the Vacuum repeatedly on a big rock near the entrance of the beach, destroying it completely.

“No! No…! No…” Vender buries his face in the sand in anguish.
“Yeah, break that thing!” Maggie giggles as she witness Vender’s pain.

“Now for the next step...” You lock eyes with Vender, you start running towards him, he tries to crawl away, but you ended up punting his face. Now the pervert is knocked out.
“Ouch…” Catastrovania found that uncomfortable to watch.
“Sorry about that. I wanted to make sure he understood his lesson.” You explain your actions.

“I-It’s fine. Don’t mind me.” Catastrovania replies.
“Shouldn’t we rummage his body? Maybe he has something valuable.” Maggie wonders.
“Suit yourself.”
“Cool.” Maggie starts looting Vender’s unconcious body...

“Cat, can you call the police? I need to send a message to my coworker about this guy.” You ask Catastrovania. You start sending Vender’s pic to Camilo and a message about what happened.
“Uuhh… Wouldn’t it be weird if we call the cops on an unconscious guy? How does that even work?”
“We left a record about his misdoings yesterday. It should be fine.”
“I-If you say so.” Catastrovania now is busy with her phone.

“I’m tempted to leave a message on him to Aleister.” You are feeling cocky.
“Oh, feeling ready to fight him now?” Maggie grins.
“…Perhaps we shouldn’t have him following our tail.”
“Weeeeell, I got his number from this punk’s phone. So if you feel like fuckin’ him up, you can give him a call.” Maggie shakes her phone to you. That’s actually useful. But that reminds you…

“I have a missed call. Give me a minute.” You walk a few feet away.
“Don’t worry, I’m still fiddling with his phone!” Maggie potentially will found more important information.

You check your phone, it was a call from Berenice. You dial up her number…

“H-Hello?” That’s Berenice’s voice.
“Hi, it’s me Alfred. I saw your call. Is anything wrong?”
“Lil’ Al! I apologize for calling you when you were busy! Boris said I should relax, you’re an adult and all, but I’m a silly ol’ woman and I was getting worried about you! But I haven’t seen you in a few days, and I was wondering how you were!”

What do you respond to this kind lady?

>“I’m in a trip outside town, I’m probably not going to come back in a while.”

“I’m on a trip outside of town, I’m probably not going to come back in a while. I apologize if I made you worried.” You tell her part of the truth as you don’t want to worry her with the details.
“Oh! I see! Sounds like fun! How great must it be to be young.” Berenice sounds a little bit relaxed now. “Don’t apologize, lil’ Al! I can not help but to act silly sometimes, some say old habits die hard and I’m pretty old myself! I don’t want to intrude either and ask you where you are and the like, you’re young and you need to have your fun! But don’t ever be afraid to call us for anything, dear. I know trips can be lonely sometimes and new places can be scary. My daughter had trouble adapting to the city life when she moved out, she used to call us every couple of days, sometimes even late at night – so I’m used to it! So feel free to give us a call whenever you want. I’m always happy to hear about you!”

“I’ll keep that in mind, thank you. But it’s not like I’m moving out permanently…”
“See? That’s my silliness showing again…” Berenice berates herself. “I don’t want to keep you on the phone for much longer! Take care and remember to eat healthy! Oh, I’ll send you some of my recipes if you are feeling daring one day and want to cook something lovely!”
“That will be of great help, thank you.”
“Take care, lil’ Al!”
“You too, Berenice.”

She hangs up. You put your phone back in your pocket. This interaction warmed your heart after all of this violence.

“You look happy.” Catastrovania notices your good mood.
“Yes. Taking the stress out of people does wonders.” You deflect.
“I don’t think it was the beating though…”

Eventually, the police arrived after Maggie was done looting Vender’s body. After answering their questions and corroborating the information they got with Camilo over a call, they took Vender away. He’s a minor, so he won’t stay in jail for too long. Despite all that, the procedure feels iffy to you, but you don’t question it.

Your triumphant return to the cabin was accompanied by an arduous cooking session. A meal to celebrate such victory! Another dinner well served.

Finally, you’re done for the day. Looks like neither Maggie nor Catastrovania ended up remembering much about today’s horror movie, because both girls went to their room without asking you to accompany them. You will have a good night's sleep.

As you get deeper in your sheets. You wonder what you should do tomorrow after training.

What are your plans for tomorrow?

>Work at the Bar for fun.
>Leave to the city. Vender knows where you are staying, so it’s better if you leave this place as soon as possible.

After making your decision, you finally doze off…

[DAY 12/THURSDAY]

You started the day with the best group training session ever. Maggie was just as full of energy as yesterday with her contagious enthusiasm infecting the group, and Catastrovania managed to do the full course for the first time ever – then completely collapsed while sporting a smug smirk of pure satisfaction, almost like a character dying in a cool way in an action movie. You’re proud of both girls.

You gained a +1 Fitness experience point for doing your morning exercise.

After your post training shower, you took your phone, went outside and dialed the Mysterious Caller’s number. You’ll beat him to the punch on this one! Shockingly, he actually answers.

“Mr. Brown, what a welcoming surprise! Took a few days, but you did the deed. Congratulations.” It’s the same voice as last time. He’s the Mafioso.
“Did I?” You feign ignorance.
“I would assume so with you calling this number, yes. No need to play more games, the time to talk has come!”

“What’s up with you?”
“No need to be hostile, I’m on your side! We both share the same objective after all.”
“Which is?” You feign ignorance again.
“Taking Aleister Price out of commission.”

“I have no idea what you’re referring to.”
“Oh? Were my informants wrong? Or are you playing dumb? I’m inclined to believe you’re just feigning ignorance. You inadvertently helped me before, but now I humbly request your aid, Mr. Brown.”
“You have a minute to explain yourself or I’m hanging up.”

“No need to be hasty, I value both of our times.” He chuckles. “Now it’s up to you to believe me from this point onwards…”

Now his tale begins: “I’m the recently appointed leader of the Min-Hu Alliance. I’ll keep my name private for the time being, protecting my identity has less to do with my own justified paranoia and more with how it could affect my business if exposed.”

“Owning the Min-Hu Alliance was not only against my will but came out of nowhere. A long distant cousin was the boss until he choked on broccoli and died on the spot. I believe the story is nothing but a web of lies, but what can I do? Regardless, I ended up as the new leader for being the closest relative he had. I don’t think they even knew I existed before this, but the underworld works in mysterious ways... Or incompetent ways.”
>>

>>3748274

“I’m not happy with being the boss. I have my own ventures and not only could my reputation be stained forever, I believe I will lose everything I have built with my own two hands for this crumbling association of clumsy meatheads. Since taking charge, I tried to distance myself as far as I can from this group, believing they would be happy to have me as a puppet head figure. But the Min-Hu Alliance is divided into two big families, there is one that’s as old fashioned as they come and were loyal to my cousin, they want me to take over properly and won’t stop pestering me if I didn’t give them any orders.”

“I just gave them one and they screwed it royally, I just wanted my identity known to no one just to preserve my private business, but these idiots have been taking it too far. They took it as a law. And well, I believe you are aware to what extent they do… I dearly apologize for all the trouble you have been getting. But like I said, this is a crumbling association and I was happy to let them collapse.”

“So when a kid named Aleister Price appeared to destroy the mafia, I was happy to let him do it, I even aided him as a mysterious informant. But one day, he confessed he would kill their boss, he wanted to kill me. That’s when I confessed the truth and told him more or less the same story I have done with you. He didn’t care… He said he would kill me. That the circumstances didn’t matter and I was dead meat. I was shocked, but everything kept getting worse.”

“The other family of the Min-Hu Alliance, the ones who don’t care about tradition as much, the ones I know were responsible for my cousin’s death. They somehow found out about my involvement with Aleister and now they aren’t too keen on keeping me alive for much longer. They are a far stronger family than the traditional one, but thankfully, the Aleister situation has all their focus right now – and they are still losing.”

“You also took a chip off my shoulder! Since you exposed that tape without telling who I was, I was able to deflect my identity to one of my men, so I’m safe from Aleister’s grasp and the police! Thank you very much! Too bad I’m no longer able to take the hit mark from you and your friends, you humiliated the traditionalist family and they want their honor back. I’m so sorry!”
>>
>“Sounds good. But you need to finance my efforts or there is no deal.” Make a counteroffer.

“Yet, this is why I need you, Mr. Brown. I need you to not get rid of Aleister just yet, I need the Min-Hu Alliance in its deathbed before you can make your move, I’ll arrange everything for you to have an even fight with him and assert your revenge! How does that sound? Too perfect to be true, right?”

He said it himself, this sounds too good to be true…

What do you respond?

>“Sounds good. But you need to finance my efforts or there is no deal.” Make a counter offer.
>“I won’t do anything unless your hitmen leave me and my accomplices alone.” Is he stupid or something?

“You’re expecting one guy to stop your already crumbling mafia alliance, why don’t you hire a better hitman to do that?”
“He’s doing a pretty good job and for free, so who am I to complain? And I did hire some hitmen to help out and one after another they have failed to get rid of Aleister, or the other mafia head, Oh, and you ran over one.”
“How do you even know I want revenge on Aleister? How do I know that after I take down Aleister, I’m not next?”

“That’s a trade secret. And… there won’t be more Min-Hu for me to use to kill you, you know? I thought it was pretty obvious. I just need you to take care of Aleister, killing him was your own idea.”
“Well, I won’t do anything unless your hitmen leave me and my accomplices alone.”

“I already said I can’t do that even if I wanted. I have my hands tied.”
“Then there is no deal.”
“Listen, I’m trying to get to an understanding here, so I’ll show you what my trade secret is...”

You hear someone forcefully being dragged and slammed on a table!

“Aaaah…!” That voice sounds familiar...
“C’mon, say hi to your old friend, Masen Reid! Seriously, tailing a helicopter is far easier than it looks. He has some loose lips and let me on a secret or two of yours.” The Mafia boss mocks.
“What the fuck is going on?! You told me we would be free if we tell you what you wanted!” The familiar voice says.
“I won’t let your friend free unless you do what I say.” The mafia boss doesn’t sound like he’s joking.

What do you do?

“I barely know the guy, you know…?” You state the obvious. “…However I do know why your mafia is crumbling, you make enemies way too easily. Do you want two killers that will absolutely stop at nothing to kill you? If not, then I suggest you let me handle at my own pace and leave everyone else out.”
“You just don’t get it, do you? I’m a dead man unless you agree to my conditions, and it’s already too big of a gamble to bet on you…” He sounds exhausted. “Since you already made your mind, there is no point in continuing this conversation. Hahahaha… I’m fuckin’ dead…. But before we go, since you barely know the guy I don’t think keeping the guy alive is useful at all. Reid tell your last words to this stranger!”
“Wait.” You try to say, but you hear the phone getting away from the caller.

You hear someone forcefully being dragged closer to the phone, someone got slammed awfully close to the phone.

“I’m Jean-Loup! Fucker made a mistake! We are in his base! Call the police! We’re at the 1—!” That’s Reid’s dad! So that’s why his voice was familiar! But he got interrupted by someone beating him up. You hear him scream in great agony! You also actually hear Masen’s voice on the background! The call brusquely ends at that.

“I accept your terms, stop beating the old man up.” You stoically say, but you secretly think I’m going to kill you. “If we’re going to work together I’m going to need your help, though. Information, for starters.”
“Thank you! I’m glad we came to an understanding, Mr. Brown.” You hear Reid’s dad’s pain stopping in the background. “I’ll happily provide that much needed help, within my means anyway. I’ll send someone over immediately to help you out, he will answer all your questions and give you a thing or two for your quest for revenge. He’ll be there in an hour more or less.” He sounds overjoyed. “How nice it is to feel alive again! In other news, this phone number won’t work again, and no, I can’t let them go just yet. So say your peace before I hang up!” You just breathe heavily. “Excellent! I see you’re resorting to your old habits! May this newfound anger help you with your mission! I’ll call you directly to tell you when the fateful day comes, and I want you to be ready for that. Good-bye.” He hangs up.

“Piece of shit...” You say after the fact. Getting blackmailed to do what you wanted to do in the first place, great…

I have a question:

You want him to drop them at their home right now or on the day of the fight? Because the mafia boss is not asking Alfred to fight right now, but later in a future date.
>>

right now I'd assume

It depends on them but it would be best on the day of the fight, we ask if they want to bail and we explain we drop them on the day of the fight because if we drop them earlier Aliester and his companions or that hitman might come after them or use them as leverage against us.

You return back to the cabin, Catastrovania is at the table fiddling with her laptop with her headphones on. Maggie appears from the kitchen with a little snack on hand.

“Hey Allie! Is there something wrong?” Maggie notices there is something off about you.
“Cat, take your headphones off please.” You ask the eccentric girl for her attention.
“…Did something happen?” Catastrovania didn’t hear what you say.
“Yes, I made a call and…”

Either way, you explained to them what just happened over the phone.

“…And that’s why I wanted to give you a chance to bail out if you want, no hard feelings of course.”
“L-Like right now…?” Catastrovania stutters. “I thought I couldn’t go back home...”
“I believe it would be best during the day of the fight. Or else Aleister, a hitman or something could come after you all and be used as leverage against me. But if you want to, we can do it immediately.”

“Do you really care about us for that to be a problem…?” Catastrovania wonders with nervous naivety.
“I regretfully admit that yes, I do.” You are being honest.
“…” Catastrovania pauses briefly. “D-Do you me-mean it?!” Catastrovania shouts nervously. “I mean, obviously you were enchanted by my FORBIDDEN POWERS, b-but…!”

“Hold on, Allie. How is this any different than what we were trying to do?” Maggie doesn’t quite get it.
“Well for one, I don’t know what exactly is going to happen – or if we will be able to tell the tale after the fight. It’s the mafia who we’re talking about here, I don’t expect them to fulfill their deal honorably.” You explain.

“So it’s a suicide mission?!” Maggie finally gets it and starts panicking.
“Yes, I believe so.” You’re not completely sure.

Both girls look at each other, then back at you.

“I… I… I’m sorry, I can’t do this.” Catastrovania is the first one to refuse. “Y-You guys are kind of fun, b-but…” Catastrovania fidgets as she looks away.

“Shut up! Get a grip, Allie!” Maggie shouts, interrupting you in the process. “I’m gonna go with you! What makes you think for a second I would’ve said no?! You have no say in this shit. With me you’re going to have more of a chance! We are going to have more of a chance!”

“Huh…” You’re taken aback by her vigor.

“What do you mean?” You wonder where Catastrovania’s going with this.
“Fufufufu— A counterattack!” She proclaims with excitement. “We know where their base is, m-maybe we can sneak inside and take your friends back! So you won’t need to do the suicide mission like those idiots want! Of course, we still need to come up with a plan, but the idea is there!”

“They have eyes on us, right? It’s not like we can move there without raising suspicion...” Maggie looks around for like cameras and stuff.
“Indeed! But one day they will require us to move back to Laoling! The day of the attack, we will dismantle the bad guy’s master plan! I, of course, with MY SECRET NETWORK OF SPIES and my obviously superior intellect – will craft a scheme that will blow your minds! I’ll call it: OPERATION STYGIAN COUNTER ACT!!!

“Woooah! That sounds cool, what does it mean?”
“Fufufu— you’ll understand in time, Margaret!” Catastrovania smirks. “I r-refuse to let you die without putting up a f-fight myself…”

Perhaps Catastrovania’s plan has no basis on anything at all right now, but maybe there is still hope, something you can build towards together.

What do you think you should be striving for?

>Operation Stygian Counter Act! You’ll somehow save the Reid Family at the day of the fight and leave unscathed to leave your actual revenge on your own terms.

Until then we have to keep travelling and training. If we can find a gym somewhere, then three days of even stronger exercise (with one day in between to rest of course) should take up enough of the week before the day of the fight. “Operation Stygian Counter Act. What exactly do you need to make this happen?” You wonder, if this is the plan you’re going to strive for, you want to help in every capacity you can.
“Hmph… We need to confirm the location where your friend is being held hostage, a blueprint of that place and the equipment necessary to break in!” Catastrovania clarifies. So basically everything…

“Isn’t that like a lot?” Maggie looks concerned.
“Indeed! But with everything in place, the operation will run smoothly! I’ve seen enough movi— I mean, DARK VINTAGE TAPES to come up with something. How hard can it be anyway?” Catastrovania’s plan is based on goodwill and luck...
“Heists are made by regular people most of the time.” You back up Cat despite your inner doubts and this not being an actual heist.

“You two seem pretty sure this is gonna work! Cool!” Maggie is relaxing.
“It’s only natural! 600 Years of knowledge is stored in here!” Catastrovania taps her head.
“I need to take as many details out of the informant as I can for a better head start.” You say as well.
“Huh… But like even if we do all that, wouldn’t we need someone in Laoling to help us out? Like to know if they are there and stuff?” Maggie wonders.

“Well…” Catastrovania’s enthusiasm comes to a halt.

Suddenly, your phone starts ringing.

“Still the default tune, eh, Allie?” Maggie teases you.
“It must be the informant.” You believe anyway.

You step outside and answer the phone.

“Hello?” You ask first.
“H-Hello, Al?” You recognize that voice! It’s your old friend, Bruce Auburn! He’s known to everyone as a daredevil reckless man, but the reality is he’s very prone to peer pressure – so he usually did what people tell him.

“It’s a long story, what are you up to?” You casually answer back.
“Oh, hey!” Bruce seems to be calming down. “Not much, I’m just chilling here… And have been wondering how you were. To see how things are going with ya, ‘cause last time things were rough.” Last time you saw him was at your dad’s funeral.
“Thank you. It’s good that you called at a time like this.”

“Whaddya mean? Is something wrong?”
“Like I said, it’s a long story.”

“It’s kind of a big deal to say this over the phone.” You set the correct mood for the situation you’re in. “How free are you right now? Are you close to the city?”
“I’m in Hamje right now, I only go back to Laoling on weekends.” That’s the city you want to go to. “I don’t have anything to do right now… I-I’ll tell ya later if you give a shit. Any place in particular you wanna meet?”
“I’ve never been in Hamje, you tell me.”
“Huh, why don’t you come to my apartment? If you’re comin’ by train, I’ll go to the station…”

“Tell me your address. I’ll get there as soon as I can.”
“Awesome, I’ll clean up the p-place in the meantime. See ya later!”
“See ya, Bruce.”

That was a rather unexpected but welcomed surprise. You now have a place to go once you get into the city of Hamje. Now you need to deal with the informant, and right on que, you get another call! You answer.

“Alfred Brown, correct?”
“Yes.”
“I have a package for you, Mr. Brown. I’m waiting at the beach entrance. Please, come here to pick it up soon. Thank you.” The call ends.

…That was abrupt. Either way, you make your way to the beach entrance. A burly man in a black suit wearing glasses is waiting at the beach entrance, he’s carrying a briefcase with him and is waiting next to a nice looking black car parked next to the street.

“Mr. Alfred Brown. Nice to meet you.” He opens the back part of the car, leaving his briefcase next to the wheel of the car. “I was hired to provide assistance to you today. I’m an accountant by profession, so please keep that in mind. Here.” He hands you another briefcase, larger than the one he had before.
“What’s this?”
“A weapon perfect to get your deed done.” The stoic man replies.

You open it, it’s a baseball bat. The same one you had your eyes on, back in the Giants Store: The Crazy Slugger.

“A baseball bat?”
“A blunt weapon is perfect for you. Do you understand why?”
“Yes, the blunt trauma goes further and does as much damage as cuts; plus, an amateur like me is more likely to seize up and freeze at the sight of blood or muscle if the cut is deep.” Something that didn’t stop you from hurting Siske. “No need to stress myself about that as much with a bat; it’s just beating someone until they bleed to death internally.”

“…” The stoic man keeps quiet for a few seconds. “Exactly, that’s why normally low-ranking gang members and mafiosi start out with blunt weapons like this bat. Helping to build up their mental resistance and prepare for actual spilling of blood in the future. Not that I’m knowledgeable about the subject, it’s not the nature of my line of work.”
“Same.”
“…”
“…”

“Is there anything you need to be informed of? Just so you know, I’m not an actual member of the Min-Hu Alliance, just a freelancer.”

What do you ask the professional-looking individual?

“Just to make sure, do you know what my mission is?” You first want him to establish what he knows.
“My understanding is that you were informed of such. If you’re wondering how much I know, all I can say is I’m prohibited from snooping around.”
“Right, so you have no idea.”

“Under the conditions I’m in, I have to claim I don’t have any knowledge of the situation.”
“That’s fine. Can you provide me with more weapons? I have a team you know.”
“How many?” He takes a notepad out of his pocket.

“How many members?”
“Yes.”
“Three more.” Just in case Reid joins after being saved.

The accountant rapidly scribbles a note, he hands you a smaller box. This is going to be a hassle to carry. “Here.”
“Thanks…” You’re sure they aren’t more baseball bats, but… “What are they?”
“More blunt weapons.”
“Right. I know you have to pretend you don’t know what’s going on, but what can you tell me about Aleister? Do you have any idea how many people he got in his crew or just anything that could give me an advantage over him?”

“The Price Family is known to act alone, their self-absorbed nature doesn’t let them work with their own acquaintances – expect a direct confrontation. Their blunt strength lacks discipline and can be easy counterattacked.” The calculating man responds.
“Did you fight him at one point?”
“No. I’ve dealt with his family.” He says it like it’s like your everyday fact. “As for the people in his crew, they work to prevent people from interfering with The Price member’s objective. “Who is this Ichie Saionji?”
“Apologies, I don’t have the information right here and I’m forbidden to contact you in another time. She’s a childhood friend of Aleister Price, I believe it won’t be difficult for you to find information on her.”
“Thank you for your help.”
“Our businesses together are done. I bid you farewell and fortunate for the rest of your life, Alfred Brown.” He gets into his car and leaves…

You never asked his name. Oh well…
