In a world plunged into frozen chaos, you, Gaeleath Yesthyra, will find a cure for the Frostblight no matter what it takes. You finally managed to construct your very first automaton, after various treks to the unforgiving shore, you stumbled upon a group of bandits setting an ambush. You ignored your primal instincts and warned the incoming caravan of their incoming doom after seeing Kajal at its lead. During the fight, you slapped and smacked your darkling slave to dispel her irrational fear of giants sending her into a much needed frenzy. You and the humans have prevailed. The caravan is safe.

You didn't say anything. Having a horse would be great and all but it is another mouth to feed, you are already struggling as it is.

It was one of those rare moments when the ominous clouds were absent from the skies. A twinkling sea of stars was dancing around the silent moon. Kajal stoked the fire, spraying more that blue powder.

"You should get some rest..." said the man with a hint of concern while staring at the skies.

It's been a long day. But inquire about what the blue powder is.

Also RE request for meemz and art, I would post some but most of my collection is WH40K-related and not appropriate for a frozen fantasy quest. Best I have is what I wish we could be doing in our hovel rather than trudging around in the cold.

Yardus, 14th of Uolk (?? Ar)

One of the children has woken you up, the humans were already packing, ready to leave. She was actually Saiden's little sister who had a little surprise of you for saving her brother.

>You have Yohrn Powder (1)

Ah, so this is what the Blue powder is called. Obscuring both the light and the warmth of any campfire can prove to be vital to avoid future predators and bandits.

You never saw Juno in such state before...a terrible silence was cast on her. Whenever you tried to maintain an eye (Fungal) contact, She would avert her head the other way. She did follow your commands though without a pip.

Kajal had one last thing to say to you before moving on "We have a more fortified camp on the road. Two days from here, just follow this road till you find this a large floating shard in the crossroad, take a right and you will find us. I will inform the men there but..." He glanced at your silent darkling "...try not to bring your spawn with you."

>You have learned of a new location: Migrant Camp

"Safe travels, Human." You waved as the caravan (after circling around the trap without an accident) was leaving. You wonder whether you would go there in the future...maybe, maybe not.

It was time to return to the spire. Juno hauled everything leaving you with nothing to carry.

[Great Success]

The trip back to the spire was smooth and safe without any notable slowdown from Juno. You really should fortify the place; anyone or anything could easily get inside to steal your belongings.

Adam stood idly in front of the stairway, having almost cleared the way to upstairs. There was a door at the end. Soon..

>Adam's WF is now 4/100
>Clearing the way is now 98/100

Juno had buried her new corpse in the mound before waiting for your next command. Before you would say anything, you suddenly heard a certain tapping nearby.

It was from behind the chained door.

What are you going to do about it.

>>
>>3757302
Remember Juno has no weapon, unless she carted back one of the giants' crude ones.
>>
>>3757302
It was...weak and infrequent. Every couple of seconds, you would hear it at the bottom of the door. For some reason, you didn't perceive it as something threatening. It was hard to tell what is causing this sound. You don't know what or who is behind the chained door. Juno didn't show any reaction to the gentle tapping, preferring silence over expressing her useless opinion.

Spectacular! Juno has spent only two hours to wind up the construct spinning the handle at an insane speed. You heard a distinct pop sound behind you, The darkling had a limp arm after spinning so furiously. The handle remains somewhat intact. Good.

>Adam's WF is now 100/100

The Automation was on its way to continue its former duty. This shouldn't take long.

She felt your gaze, grunting in response and retreating to a darker corner where the darkling held her arm tightly only to suddenly jerk it upwards. It seems better now. She crawled next to your feet, awaiting your next command.

The door had various snakes on its front hissing in defiance. They sure fooled you, for a second, you thought they were real. What a fine craftsmanship. The door was sadly locked, your first idea was to try unlocking it with the blue ribbon key. You gave it a go aaaand...

It didn't fit, too small. Curses. However, The door itself feels so thin to you (compared to the chained door). You can use the dwarven picklocking tool...though you barely know anything about this thievery art as well as how locks actually work. You will have to fumble about but there is actual little risks at hand. Another good alternative for you is Juno. She can break it for you, you have faith in her...or Adam if you trained it properly.

[Tremendous success]

There was more than to meet eye with the snakes; the eight fangs of the four snakes were in fact hidden switches. All but one were in a neutral position with an option to switch it either backwards or forwards. The non-neutral fang was switched backwards, it was heavily tarnished too with a notable green tint. Strange.

You still had no idea what purpose these switches served. Should you tamper with them? If only you had something found here in the spire to help you...

You were glad that you took the working tools as a reward. This handsaw should deal with the pesky chains. You returned to the main entrance, almost tripping over a sneaky pile of rubble, saw in hand. It was time.

The tapping stopped as you were sawing the rigid chains. A sudden snap announced your success.

"Juno, Get ready..." you ordered your slave to open the door, expecting some a beast of sort to leap forward.

There were none.

A narrow corridor enshrouded in darkness. You couldn't see anything but nightmarish hints of what lied ahead.

The air itself was...ancient, something felt terribly wrong about it. The floor, the walls had an endless stream of wires, made from an unknown material to you. They varied in sizes and shapes. some were torn apart, others had blue rust on them and....they are moving?

No, amongst the wires, what looked like a snake's tail was purely hidden between them extending further into the unknown darkness. It was the tip of the tail that kept tapping on the door. However, it felt otherworldly to you.

It was an amalgamation between rotten green scales and rotating mechanical parts. It gave you the same malicious vibes that necromancer gave you. The tail slowly slithered back into its jungle of wires, disappearing afterwards. One final thing to note was the small puddles of a bubbling green ooze. Probably Hazardous.

Your Net initially caught three fireflies but due to their size, two has escaped sending flashes of blinding light with their departure . The third one was about to follow their step if it weren't for your quick reaction.

Unlike last time, this one is at its full strength without any injury. You can't open your eyes to deal with it properly. Shame about not having some sort of a container for it before hand.

You trapped the firefly inside a metal barrel until you figure out what to do with it. You want nothing but the comfort of your bed. The darkling stood silently next to your bed, waiting for another chore to perform for the rest of the night.

Goltus 15th of Uolk (Summer) (-27 Ar)

The frostblight is flaring up, this day marks the end of summer, Tofrina is coming...so will autumn. A strong blizzard has awakened making it impossible to go outside. Curses.

Your hair colour is changing, without a proper heat source, the claws of death will drag you to your doom. Summer was gentle with you, You won't say the same for this season.

Your clothes won't do at all, you will need to change your them. The bandit armor is lighter and intact but it has the ram all over it. Any stranger could mistake you for a bandit.

>Change equipment for you and/or your slave? [You have normal set of clothing, poorly skinned animal fur, knife and elven bow and arrow. The darkling has nothing.]
>You are good with what you have

Lets combine our normal clothes with the bandits and loose furs using the sludge to glue them together since we lack needles and thread, and whatever is left over we'll make juno something

Also we might as well try on that glove

We should try to find a person we can exsanguinate so next time the travelling merchants come by we can build ourselves the "Gaileta's Bl-shgr" (a basic blood powered apparatus which will ward off the frostblight...maybe ). I think we have the money for parts, we just need to kill somebody

>>
>>3761473
hmm, well here's hoping OP posts a pastebin with the crafting recipes we know
also what do you think about sending juno down a few levels for some wood?
>>
>>3761331
It served you well but it had to go, you tore down your previous clothes patching it up with the bandits armor. The new armor didn't feel comfortable at all (The man was shorter than you). It SHOULD conceal all the rams.

>You lost your clothing and your poorly skinned fur
>You have Concealed Light leather armor (Usoloc).

The glove was really peculiar, it was soft like silk but heavy as a brick with unknown signs all over it. Whenever you tried to put it on, it would curl up on itself . You almost lost your finger trying to wear this damn thing. Not today

You felt a presence at the entrance battling its way to enter the spire.

"50208? 592056 4992...93593."
Juno stood in front of you awaiting you command. An Argean in the flesh, well in the meta with a distorted voice spouting gibberish. Sentient constructs responsible for the Blue Rust...hunted down to near extinction. He looked far stranger than any elfoid you have seen before, rough metal skin, bald head, various scars and an arm missing. His right legs were hot red radiating immense heat. From your understanding, his race can also modify themselves.

The unknown man was in a bulky armor, the chest pieces was vibrating on its own. He had a large box strapped to his back, He draw a strange serrated sword with sparks dancing wildly on the blade.

"589 583930, 6884 89 2840..." He didn't swing it (though it made your slave more aggressive). Instead, he pointed three times: One for the raging blizzard, Another for the rubble-riddled floor and the last one was for his throat which had small sparks appearing and disappearing. He pointed the sword towards you, expecting an reaction...

"84!! 49294~" He broke into a fit of laughter which sounded like metal grinding. You weren't sure of his intent back there. The Argean opened the box behind his back rummaging through its content for a couple of seconds.

Glittering coins were thrown on the floor followed by him raising his index finger towards his mouth "6666662..."

>You have 20 Gold

He rested his head against a piece of stone, still holding his sword. Is he...sleeping? Can his race go to sleep in first place?

Hmm not sure on both counts desu, the firefly’s must eat something and given that they live in the dark I imagine they probably consume fungus similar to Juno’s so may be worthwhile trying to track down what they eat otherwise it’ll just end up dead and we’ll need to catch another, as for the snake corridor I say we avoid it like the plague until we’re more knowledgeable about the blue rust as I imagine given the snakes partially mechanical nature there could be a blue rust creature of some sort lurking in the shadows and that’d be a rip for either us, Adam or Juno.
>>
>>3761736
>>3761821

Adding to this as far as containing the firefly, I’d suggest making a cage out of animal bones and glueing them together with sludge and utilise the hammer and chisel to make the lid have a latch so we can open and securely close it
>>
>>3761821
>>3761857

Id be cool with avoiding the snake hallway and the snake lock door cause we have more immediate things, also do you have anyway to keep them from blinding us? cause we probably need glass for that but i THINK that they'll glow for a bit if you kill them and use the guts like irl, also your second post come in while writing this, so i think that's a good way to make a cage it doesn't solve the blinding issue
>>
>>3761863
You raise a fair point about the blinding issue but to be fair it only did that when we had it in a net and were literally holding it, if it’s trapped it may not do the blinding thing repeatedly as that took a lot of energy out of it hence it passed out (may be a fight or flight type thing and if it realises there’s no escape it may calm down), and even if it does it then it just becomes a matter of placement, I envision the cage acting more as a standing lamp and less a lantern at this point since we don’t really have the materials for a lantern that’d prevent the blinding issue if it’d still occur
>>
>>3761857
>>3761821

Us
1ry
Move the rubble/bricks towards the door to start blocking it off a bit
2ry
making a cage/lamp out of animal bones and glueing them together with sludge and utilise the hammer and chisel to make the lid have a latch so we can open and securely close it
3ry
Read Intricacies of Khzifltas
Juno
send her into the depths to find wood or food

what do ya think? im willing to work on the cage too but>>3761891 well this sounds reasonable
>>
>>3761863
>>3761891

Alternatively we could try to fashion a lantern out of the cauldron and use the copper wire and/or metal scrap to fashion a a barred latch lid (utilising the hammer, chisel and the automaton strength of Adam to punch holes through metal, hopefully) that way the light is only let out in one direction, but it’d be a very cumbersome lantern
>>
>>3761895
I’ll support this, blocking the entrance is becoming fast more important as the seasons become colder
>>
>>3761895
I think we should swap that first action to teaching Adam how to do that for us. He would probably be much more efficient.
>>
>>3761917
We could have Adam learn it whilst we do it in the first action and then have him take over when we do our other actions
>>
>>3761935
>>3761917
I get the feeling that this task might be too complicated for Adam, but no reason not to try it
>>
>>3761789

>Us
>1ry
>Move the rubble/bricks towards the door to start blocking it off a bit have adam help us by hauling rubble/teach him how to do this
>2ry
>making a cage/lamp out of animal bones and glueing them together with sludge and utilise the hammer and chisel to make the lid have a latch so we can open and securely close it
>3ry
>Read Intricacies of Khzifltas
>Juno
>send her into the depths to find wood or food
>>
Also I think when we can next venture out it’d be a good idea to bring Adam or Juno with an axe and have them shop down and haul some of the giant flowers we get the red leaves from, we need a surplus of fuel to do things like power steam engines (when we eventually learn to make them), cook and not freeze to death so having a few of them hauled back to the spire would be invaluable and we’ll need them for sure come winter

With Adam by your side, you showed him how to build a somewhat decent wall, It was hard work especially without Juno to help , you did scrape the last of her first bone barrel during your work.

Is it a lamp? a cage? Why not both?

>Your construction skill is slightly increasing..
>You have made a bone Lampage

You made it a bit more spacious for the firefly; you want it to be able to move around at least. It took some time though, you couldn't tell anything beyond the relentless blizzard.

The fleshless squatter has woken from his slumber. He kept to himself tinkering with a small metallic object with the minuscule tools protruding from the tips of his finger. He didn't like you staring at his work so you left him alone. You doubt that he will try to steal anything....as if you had something of value to speak of.

Juno still hasn't returned. You don't know why you told her to bring wood from the depth below, meat is plausible but wood? You may never know, there might be some underground trees hidden out of sight and mind.

You wanted to finish your dwarven book, you stopped reading at quite a cliffhanger...that or the author is exaggerating things.

Deep underneath the city was a hidden forge. It had a different design than anything in Khzifltas, So...chaotic and yet perfect in its own way. The author theorizes that the forge is built by automatons FOR the automatons, no dwarves involved in its construction. There was nothing here that could be controlled by the One Finger.

It is not a secret that some of the dwarven's creations could malfunction but this was not a separate case. There is prove of dozens of automatons working in this forge , stealing in secrecy from above. What they were making? It is up to debate.

There were a LOT of discarded schematics of various projects, most of them were a tangled mess but few were really promising and could be built on. The greatest discovery however was a giant mould for a head, not just any mould; it was made to host the living metal.

The author fears that this could be heavily related to technomancy, the so called Acdeus are artificial 'gods' granting their worshipers great powers (and the rot). While they are less powerful than actual gods, they often intervene more frequently than the divines who did little to stop the frostblight. Some pretends to act for the good of all but the true this far more grim than this. The mould could be part of a new god, it is not certain. May be it can act as a large shrine for the followers to receive their boon. It is unknown.

The author has no lead on the fate of the giant head. The last remaining pages were about some of the incomplete but note worthy schematics she had found.

"Nothing to spare.." It was fine, not everyone is up for trade. He braved the ongoing blizzard vanishing from your sight.

[Great Success]

Your slave has finally returned carrying the unexpected...

A headless male darkling missing a leg and a hand, drained of his blood. he was at least thrice your size, heavily covered with black scales. You have no idea how in the blazes did she manage to kill him let alone carrying him.

Juno was injured all over her body, scratches, clawmarks, bites. Some of her wounds ran deep trickling silent blood. She didn't express any form of pain in front of you. This transition was very strange, first up, she was afraid of the males of her kind and now she is actively hunting them??

As for the wood....well, She brought a small statue? Of a serpent coiling around a column and hissing. It looks like it dropped from the spire.

>You have a male darkling corpse
>You have a small wooden statue.

Your slave was struggling to stand on her flayed right foot. She was waiting for the next command.

What are you going to do with the darkling corpse?

*Wooden statue in Misc
Hailus, 1st of Tofrina (Autumn) (-29 Ar)

Sleeping while wearing an armor is never comfortable, doubly so if you are slowly freezing to death. Thank the gods; the Blizzard is gone but that is not the end of your woes. Why is it so dim?

Oh. The fireflies are gone.

>Without any source of light, it is impossible to work at any level but entrance and Juno's living place after the sunset. Any work will be treated automatically as critical failure (Juno will have slight penalties instead since she seldom relies on the light)

Wonderful, Fantastic! May the Blue rust claim them all! At least you have one who is about to die too from starvation. You only have a single chunk of meat since your slave was a complete halfwit bringing disgusting meat instead of proper one yesterday.

What are you going to do about the lack of warmth?
>Nothing, It will all be fine.
>No other option but to use the Gujim orb on your self
>You will start a fire, using whatever you can [Specify kindling for the fire]

[Decent Success]

You managed to cram the obnoxious bug into the lampage but not before receiving a horrible flash that has blinded you for a considerable time. It was a desperate attempt from the fly to break free, now it radiates a dim light in its new home.

>You have a firefly lampage

If you don't feed it, it will eventually die, so you will have to keep that in mind. You took a brief glance at ominous wired corridor, this unnatural tail has revealed itself, beckoning you to come closer.

"Surface dweller?" you looked to your right. What a pleasant surprise to see the Neosm once more "Faring well?"

"Yes,yes i..." you donned a fake smile, everything is taking a toll on you. Hard to remain optimistic. "...i am fine."

"Absolute, Falling season is unyielding than previous seasons. Trading?" Conm had one his round constructs behind him.

"Not! Trading gold suffers more, Trade item for item." Spat Hobn as she argued with her brother who begrudgingly followed her words.

The twins have left shortly afterwards, You didn't bother to pay them to bring you a specific item. You wanted to strangle the life out of the greedy sister, maybe you should release your slave at her next time. This could be amusing to watch...no...you need them desperately to survive sadly. The human settlement is tempting but the horrid walk is a much worse alternative.

You rested close to the fire, ignoring the wiggling tail who wants you to enter its corridor. It was time to finish your dwarven book.

There were some interesting designs drawn in the last pages, most won't come to fruition but you have learned a great deal of knowledge from the book and its illustrious author.

>Intricacies of Khzifltas is now FINISHED, Focus; Steamworks, Technomancy

>You have the schematics for Strmakn, a prototype light diving suit with extra appendages.

It felt good to finish this book, one step closer to cure the word from the frostblight. Maybe you should sell this book to the Neosm next time; you got it all stored in your mind in.

Your glee and sense of triumph were shortly lived as the serpent's tail has lunged itself from the sinister corridor towards your legs dragging you to its nefarious den!

You try to struggle back but to no avail, your knife did nothing to stop this malicious thing, it coiled around you some more, its grip was tighter than a hangman's knot. You gasped for air until darkness prevailed...

1/?
>>
Your eyes began to slowly open readjusting to the lack of light, an agonizing pain has dawned upon you. A collar, one that had a will of its own slowly moving around your neck. There were literal hundreds of small wires and snakes around you, hard to tell which is which in your current state.

"You cretin (CRETIN), You absolute fool..you dare to ignore us (US)?" A man and a woman spoke in unison. You eye darted all over this nightmarish room to find the source of this wicked voice. Nothing.

"Who...who..are you...?Why..?" You were struggling to remain awake, your limbs were growing numb just a hair's length above the floor.

"(You) YOU IGNORED US, WE LURED THE (Infantile) INFANTILE BEAST, WE (Lured) LURED THE VACUOUS FLY. YOU IGNORED OUR HIGHER (Calling) CALLING."

From behind, a giant serpent with glaring red eyes had emerged. Moth sewn, Flesh rotten, metal broken. It was too big to slither comfortably around this mess. You have noticed two things, a notable bulge in the serpent's abdomen and a series of attachments at the back of the snake...broken crimson crystals with only a single one remains intact.

"Serve us, Masters of Machin (MACHIN) and Arcin. Imprisoned and feared (FEARED), or PERISH (PERISH) PERISH (PERISH)PERISH (PERISH)PERISH (PERISH)PERISH (PERISH)!!!!"

At this moment, you were set free, you dropped on the wriggling floor. You couldn't see an exit in this bowel of darkness. Only you and your captor.

It's about time we stopped being a pushover. If it leads to our death, so be it by this point. My stock of fucks to give has been slowly worn down to critically low levels over the past month, and it might be a welcome release from this wretched, dead-end existence. I'd rather go out flipping off an eldritch abomination wanting to enslave us than slowly starving to death because it's too cold to hunt for food.

"I'll take you away

I'll be your escape
The stars that lie above us will embrace"

I'm gonna one up the guy above me, and straight up give it a burn. Not a literal burn, since we don't have fire, but still.

And on the topic of song lyrics, I think this is an appropriate one.

"We're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine,

The entity remained silent for a few precious minutes. The collar slithered away from your neck, the lingering tension still remained in the room however. Finally, It spoke:

"So be (IT)it." Your legs were getting swallowed by a whirlpool of silver. In true desperation, you tried to crawl away to no avail.

No. This is the beginning...of something far more greater...
.
.

You found yourself in an endless plane with silver foreign skies, a shallow lake of mercury...so still and silent. You took a few steps forward, leaving a golden trace behind each step.

You were overwhelmed with a sense of tranquility and acceptance. Where are you? Is this the afterlife? You continued to walk further and further until you spotted something in the distance.

A bare child with long silky hair and eyes from the heavens, innocently playing with a white snake. When it spotted you, the snake hissed in protest.

"Forgive my mother, She can be overly... protective of me at times..." He put his snake aside.

His reaction was genuine, melancholy washed over his face "My...mother poured her soul to save me when your Frostblight happen. All i have is but her docile reflection and her emotions. It must have been equally maddening for her to remain in the waking world. Alone."

"Would you like my to convey any message to her?" you offered.

Or should i? books like the guests of the silent is not a skill based book either but they should have a lot pages. what do you think?
>>
>>3767370
I would say it depends on what you think the roll represents and what the gap between failure and success is. If I were running a quest like this, I'd make books that aren't particularly difficult "easy reading" and have a certain, fairly high, number of pages read per unit of time spent. For books that are hard, I'd consider it more "academic reading" where getting through it can be slow because of density, difficulty, or something like that. Something where you might just pick it up and not make any progress or might have a burst of motivation/inspiration and blaze through it. I'm thinking of the difference between reading a WH40k novel and reading a mariner's guide on whale blubber (or w/e). Still, the end choice is up to you and what you think would fit the quest better.
>>
>>3767399
i think i will split reading into two big categories:
- Skill based Learning books :
>can require some prerequisites like Salvaging (5) for an example to actually understand what is going on
>requires generally high dice,
>relatively slow progress (usually 1/x of the roll) but highly rewarding
>can have Eureka if you kept reading them for on daily basis
> CAN have failure if we are unlucky and by that i mean they we didn't digest what we had just read

-Non Skill based books/letters/etc
>Most don't require a prerequisite, if some do it won't be skill based (example: an untranslated dwarven fishing guide, you must know actual dwarven first
>requires generally low dice,
>relatively high progress (Y times roll) but little situation niche-like rewards (Like how to differentiate a precious gem from a crystal mimic for an example )
>can't have Eureka
> CAN NOT have failure if we are unlucky. the purpose of the roll here is to find anything between the lines or anything hidden, we will overlook said potentional secret if we failed

i think this sums it up, instead of 100, give me d20, bo3

[Slight Success]
This Willisk's fellow handwriting awful, it was more of a horrible scratches of ink splattered on worn paper. It is amazing for the diary to have survived so many centuries.

Willisk was once a human slave who escaped an underground elven kingdom. Ah, he comes from a time where elves were a tad harsh on their slaves...castrating them, offering their children to the gods. It was a BRIEF time in elven history (for the most part); a happy slave is a better slave...many elven societies learned this truth (the easy or the hard way)

Interesting. He describes surviving a greenish hellscape . This has to be pre frostblight. A very interesting tidbit here:

"A winged Angel saved me from certain death! Oh, my savoir! my goddess! She holds me in her arms and off we fly! We soared the red skies across the mountains landing on an island! hidden from greedy dwarves selling us like cattle to the cruel dark elves! My new home? More of my goddess! Majestic! "

After that, a couple of pages had nothing but pure nonsense then the pages started to get bloodier until the words start to make some sense again, the handwriting was marginally different. You almost thought it was someone else but the composition was still the same, here are the first lines:

#%&^%$,^&^* (Probably a date, it was heavily crossed out)

Meat No.1, Skyfolk, female, hatchling.

My masters, bless them, bless them. I have a purpose. It was tantalizing.

They hated their scales, their wings. Children of dragons? Bah! They are meat. Oh masters, generous of you to give me free reign on this little girl..
My children, my tools of the trade. Hush, hush...don't cry, i will bath you all in sweet virgin blood. Why not tighten her better?

Oh she screamed! A CHORUS TO MY EARS. HER FLESH WAS SINGING! SINGING, My body was aflame! I-"

You couldn't read anymore or rather you couldn't have the stomach to continue barely holding your vomit. Of course a jailer/torturer would have archived his atrocious deeds! You only want to know how to open that blasted door. Not...not this!

[Slight Success]

One Victim after another, tortured, mutilated. They were either these 'Skyfolk' who you know nothing about or other elves. On a side note, he refused to 'perform his art' on other fellow humans.

Death by agony. What drives a human to be so cruel? The more you read, the more hatred you garnered for Willisk. Another interesting parts:

"Master Gafil has entrusted me with a secret task. She want me to smuggle a prisoner out of here to an abandoned spire in the far side of the island. I followed her words. Why does she want this high profile prisoner out of sight? The other master don't know a thing about this. Am i doing the right thing?"

And there was more.

"Master Gafil is pleased of my work. She wants the prisoner to stay alive, the rest is up to me! She has sent a trapmaker and an architect for renovate the spire. I hate them, leave my new palace alone!"

Some pages were torn off, luckily for you, you didn't skip the following;

"Curse that trapmaker! That fool almost costed me my life thrice! He will pay...

(Some incoherent words)

The Sunrise beckoned Oxpheiu
Ever Hungry for more
Fangs drawn
At the rising fawn
The Dawn beckoned Gourpha
Far away, Shedding skin
Fangs Still
At the Silent hill
The Dusk beckoned Ahazthu
Withered, Cautious and weak
Fangs Meek
In the scorching bleak
Alas, The Sunset beckoned Hovcis
Putrid, Mangled , bleeding heart
Fangs apart
Fate Sealed from start.

Mailus, 2nd of Tofrina (Autumn) (-31 Ar)

Malicious winds, Malignant winds making its way through the half-opened entrance stealing any hint of warmth. You could even have a good night sleep,This can not continue.

Your slave was in abysmal state, She didn't bother to do anything with the puncturing spine. The darkling barely crawled towards your frozen feet, basically dragging herself towards you... still willing to serve no matter the cost...

Same could be said about the firefly, exposed to the winds, starving, soon to die.

The giant snake showed disdain when you asked her for help "ARE YOU GOING TO SAVE OUR (our) PRECIOUS SON (son) THIS DAY?"

"So be (IT) it." You felt a painful sting behind your back, a smaller mechanical snake slithered back to the floor. How did i-

You collapsed on the floor, every single muscle scream in pain for a mere second. Then a powerful warmth radiating from your very heart. You were starting to sweat.

"We are not going to be so (GENEROUS) generous next time." You wanted to say something snarky at return...best not to provoke someone of that size.

As you were getting ready to leave the spire, Juno was making her own way to the shore, spines still in face, back and arm. You heard a little bit of wheezing from her side. Since both of you are venturing outside, why not do so together?

You had an unspeakable urge to speak about your past in the middle of a frozen hellscape. You started doing so next to the limping, bleeding darkling.

It was nothing special. Your mother birthed you during a predetermined cycle in the everblossom. A lone child with a lone mother protected from the outside world via the soul-fold. A barrier made of the collective souls of all male elves in the everblossom.

You had no arcanus in you. A curse upon elvenkind. In earlier times, those like you would be put to the sword from being such a disgrace. Your mother supported you as much as she could in a world devoid of friends. Yes, you were alone, mocked for your disabilities. Venalath enjoyed bulllying you the most.

Then you discovered the Machinus arts and ways. You were naturally talented at them. It was your destiny to continue. The rest is known to her...

"...." Your slave said nothing, you doubt she had the mental capacity or strength in her current state. Is she drifting away from you again? Oh the nerve!

[Tremendous success]

It was a snail's pace. You were doing fine with Ikz's blessing/curse. Juno? Not so much, her wheezes were starting to annoy you at some point. Finally, you had reached the frigid shore. No predators seen anywhere, your lucky day.

The red string trees were aflame, a crimson fire reaching the white skies with thousands of fiery cones flying in the air. A wondrous sight but an unbeneficial one for you; nothing but charcoals for as far as the eye can see.

However, during this flourishing firestorm, some of the ice was melted away revealing an interesting growth . Yes, utilizing this burst of warmth, several crystalline seeds were cracking their hard exterior revealing a half grown sapling readY to grow.

These saplings however do seem to have a nasty set of crystalline thorns, short, crooked and ready to dig into flesh, painfully.

As for the delicious preys, It was quite rifle with a plethora of them. The Saelmira are hopping in joy; their mating season is over and their whiskers has significantly engorged. Some of the leporine creatures were already pregnant. Impressive. The shore had a small colony of these spiky lizards diving in and out from a small hole in the icesheets for food.

Finally, another creature has took advantage of the red string combustion, a medium sized ungulate mammal with thick red skin and a set of strange horns, this creature continued to rub them against the fire to absorb it. A flaming horn...

Three saplings, plus collect as much charcoal as both we and Juno can possibly carry and continue until we've got just enough time to get back home before nightfall. Charcoal is an excellent fuel, and we're going to need a lot more fuel as the temperature drops.

Juno can do her thing while we collect the saplings and charcoal, we just need her to help carry it home.

A whirlwind of hisses were sweeping the shore, It was a legion of these creatures chasing down your incompetent slave who bears twice the spines from yesterday. Some spines went through and through in her relatively slim limbs. At least she is dragging another lizard with her. None of her pustules has been popped.

The Darkling dropped her prey right beneath your feet quickly turning her back to face the aggressors roaring and welcoming their challenge.

They were relatively slow creatures, lacking any finesse or agility. However, their sheer numbers has changed the tide of this battle...

After two days of hunger, several days of working to the bone and a myriad of injuries, Juno has finally succumbed to her injuries after a tail smack has buried a set of spines in her heart and neck.

Jun is dead. Slowly, Painfully. Her last thoughts were of the few moment of happiness she had with her new master. You tried to feign sadness but you didn't have any. A useful asset , gone. That is the end of that.

She didn't die in vain though; she has taken down several with her in one last flurry of attacks. You downed only one in this frozen haze.

Your bow and arrows prove to be worthless in close encounters, you had to resort to your axe which did pretty well all things considered.

You killed one, crippled another. It was not enough, It was never enough. Your right leg, riddled with spines, how could Juno endure this agonizing pain?!

The land of the dead beckons, you were sure of it until the legion has chosen to retreat, dragging the corpses of their fallen comrades with them. And you? You were on the frozen snow coiling and screaming of pain.

"DAMN YOU JUNO!' You screamed at the lifeless corpse "DAMN YOU AND YOUR MOUND OF DUNG!" If you could stand, you would have gone there and kicked her vacuous head, stomped on it! What a was, what a bloody waste!

"I HATE YOU , I HATE YOU, I HATE YOU!!" Your lungs were brimmed with rage, frustration, anger. You won't die like this. YOU WON'T.

"Hmm...they took my spot." A somewhat familiar voice boomed behind you. It was the that Faroi who was fishing next to the spire days ago. He glanced over your slave's corpse "...and your spawn. Hmm, too much blood."

"Go away!" You barked "I don't need you! I don't need anyone else! You are ALLLL parasites trying to leech off my success and my story!" In a fit of rage, you tried to stab the giant with your knife. You hardly made a dent in his armor.

"Hm...a new fishing spot is due..." Without saying anything further, the giant grabbed you, trudging through the snow while humming.
.
.

You faded in and out during the next few hours, When you were finally awake, you find yourself back in the spire, your leg was fully bandaged with the spines removed. Adam has done its job faithfully.

>Adam's WF is now 0/100
>Build wall command progress is 5/hour
>Temporary door is 85/150
>Adam has used 50 rubble and a barrel of Juno's sludge

You blinked twice; a plate full of roasted meat is waiting for you. Next to you was the firefly eating a small cube of meat in pure joy.
Outside was the giant with a large pit of fire, he was fishing during the night.

Well time to throw my 2 cents in,

QM being passive aggressive isn’t going to draw more people into your quest nor is making the dice rolls for people, /qst/ is a slow place where meaningful votes can take days and you need to accept that, however at the same time you’re really not helping yourself, you’ve called your quest frozen civ redux, yet this isn’t a civ quest and won’t be for a while, lots of people don’t go for civ quests period because of how generic and numerous they are, additionally you don’t have a Twitter or discord to announce when you’re running so you’re not establishing a reliable player base, and you’re posting the threads in non peak hours.

My advice is as follows: be patient; setup a Twitter or discord; think about renaming the quest to something more thematically appropriate and less generic; run the next thread during peak hours with the twitter or discord in peak hours to get a player base and self promote in the qst general threads.

I can understand your frustration for feeling like the work your doing isn’t being appreciated, but taking that frustration out on the few players in your thread won’t help more people be attracted to your quest, and I think this has potential to be a very good quest if you run it right. And remember, have patience!

also this bro, im one of the regular players but i cant be here every night to play and when i am it sucks when there arent others but it happens there's always another day to play
>>
>>3771528
Prepare for some incoherent rambling, thank you for taking your time to write this:

Momentum is a very important aspect in most quests, players vote and discuss things with each other. This motivates the QM.

Here, I spend hours waiting for a single reply killing any momentum i have. Putting a lot of effort so it can be ignored obliterating any drive in me to continue. Some of the players here post invalid/incomplete replies or didn't bother to roll and i always have to reminder them of what they have done wrong. Why do i have to do that? A single player quest is just too frustrating, two is worse since they will often have different opinions and i will have to tie break every single time with more rolls.

Three is the bare minimum. The very basic bare bones i can work with. I am not twisting your arms by asking for three players and the day's span is more than enough. My timing isn't that bad either, spanning over several hours making sure that most of players throughout different time zones can catch up. It really grinds my gears when there apparently a lot of lurkers in the quest slowly strangling the life out of it.

Every action has consequence, I gave a lot of hints and signs regarding Juno and you all kept ignoring it. She died because of your negligence and cruelty. No one thought of the her mental scar with giants. No one tried to sit down and have a talk with her, no one bothered removing the spines from her body, no one considered the fact that you were marching her towards her death. You simply abused her kindness towards the MC breaking her in a miserable pile of nothing. If this is how you want the MC to be, then that's fine by me. I am not condemning you on how to play this quest regardless of my personal opinion.

I am a Luddite, I won't have any account anywhere, QTG is my only place i can advertise my quest. Is this my fault? 100%, same goes with the title of the quest. You are right.

Tornus, 3rd of Tofrina (Autumn) (-28 Ar)

With the death of your slave, two problems were germinating inside you; you have no means of reaching the precious underground water. Furthermore, you have no sludge to continue working on the door. You must chop up the lizard's corpse today if you plan on eating anything.

The firefly looks a lot more friendlier than before. Maybe because the giant had fed it. Would you like to name this lonesome firefly?

>Yes [Specify]
>No. It will die sooner or later. No need to get attached to it.

What are you going to do about the lack of warmth?

>Nothing, you will endure this bone-freezing temperature
>Start a fire [Specify what to use as a kindling]
>Use the Neosm Doodad
>Crush the egg, ask the miracle child for aid?
>Approach Ikz's room, ask her for aid?

I think a charcoal might be more sustainable in the long run, but the space isn't well insulated, making it inefficient.
Also can we eat raw meat?
>>
>>3772806
>>3772760
backing
and we should probably just clean and skin and cook our food no sense in getting ill
>>
>>3772839
well if we cook it then we should save the doodad and make a fire from the charcoal instead. I was just trying to see how little we could get by on.
>>
>>3772870
true true so take care of processing that lizard
and finishing that awful dairy this turn? also i kinda wanna just block off the doorway with rubble till we can make a proper door

>>3772760
>No. It will die sooner or later. No need to get attached to it.
>Start a fire [Specify what to use as a kindling]
remove part of the red string net and use the red string to start the fire, maybe set up the fire before we try to mess with the red string net
>>
>>3772760
No.
Use the Neosm Doodad.
>>
>>3772884
How's the ventilation in this place? I hope we're not relying on the open doorway to not smoke ourselves out.

You used your second orb, the warmth radiating from it should last for a single day. You didn't help Ikz as you promised yesterday but honestly, you don't give a damn. You want to open that door. The whole answer is definitely in these words:

The Sunrise beckoned Oxpheiu
Ever Hungry for more
Fangs drawn
At the rising fawn
The Dawn beckoned Gourpha
Far away, Shedding skin
Fangs Still
At the Silent hill
The Dusk beckoned Ahazthu
Withered, Cautious and weak
Fangs Meek
In the scorching bleak
Alas, The Sunset beckoned Hovcis
Putrid, Mangled , bleeding heart
Fangs apart
Fate Sealed from start.

oh no we have to solve the riddle first and we're stupid. there are sixteen lines, so two lines a switch. here are my thoughts.
>The Sunrise beckoned Oxpheiu
>Ever Hungry for more
perhaps forward though I'm not certain
>Fangs drawn
>At the rising fawn
fangs drawn means forward position
>The Dawn beckoned Gourpha
>Far away, Shedding skin
far away could mean forward, maybe back unsure
>Fangs Still
>At the Silent hill
neutral definitely
>The Dusk beckoned Ahazthu
>Withered, Cautious and weak
>Fangs Meek
>In the scorching bleak
meek means back, and weak could mean the same
>Alas, The Sunset beckoned Hovcis
>Putrid, Mangled , bleeding heart
>Fangs apart
>Fate Sealed from start.
fangs apart could mean opposite from its adjacents, so a forward and the last would be a back, just like it was left.

Maybe try F-F-F-N-B-B-F-B and F-F-B-N-B-B-F-B.
After that we should see what we can extract from the lizard.
Then brute force the door's combinations. If we start with X-F-X-N-X-B-F-B then that should give us a head start, and we might unlock it after a while.

You raise some fair points but also some unfair ones, I can understand the need for momentum but ever since quests moved from /tg/ to /qst/ the time period quests take place over increased dramatically from several hours to several days, if you’re only getting one reply then unfortunately the only solution is to wait until you get other replies, I can understand if this is frustrating given the times involved but as the quest becomes more established and you gain a more reliable player base this time will decrease.

I can understand that you think you’re running at good times and for a good amount of time but the majority of people on 4chan are Americans so you need run at peak times for Americans if you want a large player base, and as I’ve already said on /qst/ discussions and votes take days, that’s simply the nature of the board especially for newer quests.

Your “reminding” of players comes across as passive aggressive since you’re complaining at your player base, every quest will have lurkers and people who don’t vote and simply observe, not everyone wants to make the choice they just want to observe what choice occurs, getting frustrated at those players doesn’t send a good message to people who are glancing at the quest. Ask yourself this, if you see a quest thread you’re unfamiliar with and the QM is berating people for not voting or doing rolls for people and saying stuff like it being an “arduous task” would you be more or less likely to participate?

As for what happened with Juno that’s simply a story element, people can agree or disagree with story as much as they like, you’re running the quest and this is your story if people dislike it they can run their own quests.

Good luck for the future QM, I enjoy the downtrodden and hard nature of the quest and think it could be a very good quest if handled correctly, it simply depends on you.

>F-F-F-N-B-B-F-B

You tried to fiddle around with the fangs, after readjusting the first pair, they simply retracted into the serpentine head. You took it as a good sign. The second, the third, the fourth....all correct!

>Your contraption skill has increased.

You heard several mechanical clicks then suddenly the door was opened revealing a miasma of decay. Noxious green fumes obscuring what lied ahead though you could spot a mutated skeletal body at the door of another room up ahead....is that Willisk?

Several mutated limbs, each clinging to a tool of agony. You find it hard to believe that this was once human. What sort of ritual did his masters used on him? Now how are you supposed to reach him? These fumes are quite hazardous.

"Dar'sylask? Stel, Mn g tos nim mdnwij." A calm voice echoed through the fumes. A feminine one with a strange tone to it as if each word were spoken twice through a hollow tube. you heard the same words but in different languages. Her elvish was quite fluent.

"A flesh walker? Stel, Be a dear and free me."

This. Our only other options would be pumping out the gas, asking the serpent for help, or buying a breathing apparatus from the neosm traders. I think an automaton could go in, but faerik is too simple to be of use. Also we only really need Willisk's hand from what I can tell.

"Two pressure plates, my dear. One is two steps in front of you, other is where i am...trapped. Both hidden under a rather suspicious rug. You would want to reactivate the ventilation system to get rid of the gas but it operates only on deadly crimson crystals... for the arcanus inept anyways. "

"Is that all?" you asked.

"Appears so, quite an arse that trapmaker was. Now please do hurry, those three years has taken a toll on my delicate skin; no ointments in forgotten towers of death, i am afraid."

I'm pretty sure they're Guiana's tears, which the snake said were around the prison. We'd need Willisk's hand anyway to handle them.

I want to wind up the faerik and have him take two steps forward, then have her step on the other one.

couple of problems with that:
-the area is small/narrow for us to effectively use one
-you will need a power source for it to be actually useful windup won't do much

"They are 'tears' of Guiana. Oh, what am i saying? Pure hogwash, that. They are concentrated residues from the planes of Arcanunia herself which happens to fall in our world. Very powerful and precious my dear."

"Arcanunia? The godless plane?"

"Ah, so you do know something something..." her giggle was obscured by the fumes " All the gods and divines are but specks to the Arcanunia. A primordial realm of raw arcanus power, a brief exposure to it will kill the mightiest of gods. As such, no one has stepped into this riveting realm. " The woman sighed "Enough chatter already, do your work post-haste, chop-chop!"

I think a fresh start is due. let me know what you think.

i wouldnt be opposed to a new start, but more like a new game plus same place and challenges but we start off with more than one person, also ive been working a lot more than when we started so my participation had dropped, not because it was too hard

I'm sorry that I largely dropped out of the quest to be a lurker by this point. To me, the quest has suffered from (to quote tvtropes, and pic related) Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy, where the facts that every day is a brutal grind and progress towards our goals is so slow with no route to them in sight has worn down my motivation to participate and care for the outcomes that seem to get us nowhere - and when that happens, people stop being invested and fade away. I don't know if I can speak for others, but that's my two cents on the situation.

yes, my approach to a proper challenge was wrong. I can' deny that. Thank you for pointing that out.
>>3783605
i am thinking of something lighter and less bleak so to speak. We'll see.
>>
>>3783635
The challenge being hard is not in and of itself "bad" or "wrong", and there are undoubtedly a lot of people out there who like difficult stuff where you have to work damn hard for your progress and think carefully about things that could come round and bite you in the ass later. But /qst/ is small, and in order to gain and retain sufficient players from the limited pool available, you need to have broad appeal, and that somewhat restricts what you can do. I wish you luck with your future quests.
>>
>>3783616
I think you're on the right track, although I slightly disagree. I don't think the issue is it being dark or there being a slow grind. I think it's more that when we actually achieved the small goals, it turned out to be meaningless or even harmful. We spent a lot of time building the automaton to clear up the top floor, which was implied to be something we should make a priority of. It turned out to be completely and utterly pointless since the room was filled with poison gas we couldn't do anything about nor have anything of value except some guy who would have been useless anyway. From the start we were pushed towards that one locked door, and it turned out to be a near death trap. In theory, we could have tried getting those crystals we'd never seen any indication of, but that would mean going down to lower levels that would be total death traps for us. Even if we found the crystals, we'd probably get screwed anyway or it wouldn't have meant anything.

The thing is, I actually like that the quest is hard and isn't giving us godlike magic or a legion of automaton minions without serious effort. The issue is that any time there's progress, it's instantly rendered moot. Unironically, the correct decision was to ignore everything relating to the Machinus or exploring the spire and to instead just play Winter Survivalist Quest (ft. Juno). At least then we would survive until winter would have inevitably instakilled us.

i hope we learned something from this quest. I would still appreciate it if someone were to archive this thread.
