You are Marina Steel. An eleven year old girl who has heard voices all her life telling her to consume the world with your monstrous TRUE mouth. Last night, the voices having woken you up from fitful sleep, you give in and eat your pet tortoise. You feel strong afterwards and learn that you can gain the traits of the creatures you devour by eating them and gaining their unused potential.

After a brisk walk through the woods and another successful devouring you meet up with your best friend, Yuri Chernokov. You explain to her your desire to get stronger by eating and she agrees to help you in your endeavor.

During history class you learn of the ancient residents of your town, The Homuncuul, and thier old dead gods. You begin to obssess over one of the gods, Dentata the Eater, feeling a strange stirring from within as the voices draw you close to something.

That night you sleep only to have your dream visited by Blorby. A cute round ball-like creature that is the manifestation of the dead god Dentata and your ancestors potentials condensed into a concious form. He explains that you are the reincarnation of Dentata and have the potential to regain enough power to become a god once more. After warning you about the reincarnation of Ocuul, one of the Homuncuul gods, you know is lurking in your town he teaches you how to fight. You have just woken up and are ready to start a new day.

You look at the your 3P alarm clock. It's currently 4:20. You must have woken up a little early. Now that... I guess you could keep calling him Blorby... has reached full sentience the voices aren't so invasive. They are like pleasant white noise.

You decide to head downstairs and do some research and grab a bite to eat while you wait for Yuri to wake up.

You munch on a toaster strudel as you look up the great devourer on the family PC. You begin to think that was more of a bit of grandeur and showmanship vs. being an actual title as the only search results are various metal bands with equally extra names. Efluevium of Sorrow being your favorite of all the crazy names.

You also do some research on snakes and spiders in your area. You actually discover there is actually a rare spider that can be found in the Haverford woods. The Gargantuan Wing Weaver is a massive spider, about the size of a dog, that hunts among the trees and eats birds as a main source of prey. This horrifies you.

>>3707708

You look up local psychics. All you find is a boogle maps that gives directions to a Tarot parlor in the shopping plaza in town. You also find a scientific paper about the science of espers. Its all in sciency gobblydegook. If only you knew a scientist to put it in laymans terms for you.

With a few minutes left before your alarm goes off and wakes up Yuri you decide to mess with your bestie by teasing her.

As the alarm goes off she blearly sits up in her bag.

>>3707707

She looks down at the teddy and blushes furiously.

"Shut up. Im not cute im resplendent."

I'm not opposed to doing our assignment again (or perhaps just revising it). I'm worried calling Ocuul and Manno a ton of insults might jeopardize our [ADORABLE]. Although I wouldn't mind still portraying Dentata sympathetically.

>>3762595
I came up with a bunch of interesting organisms (most or all of which have the phrase 'grocery list' in the post) but I don't remember the players coming up with a consensus on what we should eat. But I posted that after OP concluded the quest

Our google search told us about a interesting spider in the nearby forest (dog sized. hunts birds). And IIRC Blorby recommended fish for water breathing.

There aren't a lot of places in town where you can learn self defense aside from the boxing gym and the taekwondo dojo in Haverford Plaza. Or maybe the other kids at school. We should try and find out what time the fight is and where exactly it will be in the forest.

I was thinking that maybe we should redo our homework before class (and before school) if we have the time, because I'm worried our current version will cost us our [ADORABLE].

At school it would also be good to find out what clubs are available. We know our BFF wants to join the book club and she doesn't really have any other friends. So we should go with her. It might be good if she doesn't get any friends besides us so that way if we think someone would make good prey, she won't be their friend (and thus eating them won't offend her). I'm not saying we should actively sabotage attempts to make friendships. But we could make her feel like it's not necessary by never making her feel like she's alone (not in a creepy/threatening way, just in a 'not lonely' way).

Also depending on the nature of these clubs we they might not be all at the same time allowing us to join more than one.

>>3765052
We could check out the 'haunted roof', but I'd rather wait till we're stronger, just in case there is truth to it and the truth is dangerous.

I wouldn't be surprised if Creepy Alice is another god fragment. Maybe we shouldn't meet her right away. Might still be worth knowing where she is. The sheriff is looking for her, so telling the sheriff we heard that Alice is in the forest might earn us some brownie points.
>>
>>3765187
It is worth noting that one of the books we saw is The Children of The Man by Yentl Zoraya. Zoraya is Alice's surname.
According to the Homuncuul people The Man is the primordial god that split himself into Ocuul, Manno, and (best god) Dentata.

Princess themed buttonup and skirt.

Also weren’t we going to go through the forest to eat another snake? I thought that was the plan in the last thread?
>>
>>3765246
I don't think we settled on anything.
In terms of snakes, a pit viper (which is venomous) for heat vision might be nice. But for now I think a venomous creature (possibly snake) with very fast acting paralytic venom (that is effective against vertebrates) would be ideal. Not all venomous snakes fit that description. In fact I'm not sure if the forest even has either kind of those snakes.

Obviously eating a venomous creatures need to be handled with care. The heads of at least some venomous snakes survive decapitation for a while.

We can be more reckless about eating something venomous if we eat something immune to it first of course (sea turtle before eating jelly fish for example).

You decide to wear your usual get up. A white short sleeve shirt with a crown embroidered on the collar and a pink skirt. Yuri puts on her long pleated skirt and school blazer. You tell her you want to go over to her place after school to watch the season 3 premiere of P3: PoNRv. She gives you a thumbs up.

"That sounds fun. As long as nothing big happens to keep us from getting to my place after school we should be fine. Hopefully the esoteric note thing stays a one off occurance."

Your hear a knock on the door. Your dad must of woken up a few minutes ago. He calls out from the hall.

"You girls up? I'm working from home today so I can give y'all a ride to school if you want."

Before you say anything you pocket the 17 dollars from last weeks allowance from your nightstand and look to Yuri. There are a few things you could do before school if you really wanted. You could also get there early and explore the campus.

>If the fight is after school, then walk to the library before school.

You turn to Yuri and whisper to her you wanna go to the plaza before school. She nods and gives you a silent thumbs up. You open the door and let your dad know you wanna walk to school with Yuri so you two can chat. He looks down and smiles.

"That's fine kiddo. Just make sure you make it to school on time. I don't wanna get a call from principal Romero that you got a tardy."

He's about to walk off when you tug his shirt and ask if you can start taking taekwondo classes at the dojo with Yuri.

"Sure kid. You can only take weekend classes though. I don't want extracurriculars to get in the way of school and you still might want to join a club. I'm happy you wanna get out of the house more."

After saying goodbye to your dad you and Yuri start your walk to the plaza. As you walk you make some idle chatter.

>>3765506

You ask Yuri when Bobby and Ferdnand's fight is. She pulls out her phone and checks something.

"Our classmates seem to think the fight is taking place tomorrow at the Wild Bunch's club house. It seems that Ferdnand wants to look for a good weapon to fight Bobby with. I'm not sure why though. All Bobby has to fight with is that stupid yo-yo he won't stop talking about."

"Thank you for the tip. We'll expand the search to encompass that area. Thanks again for the help!"

You end the call and hand the phone back to Yuri. You ask her if there is anything she wants to do before school.

You walk a few stores down and enter Franchesca's. It's a fairly spacious store. Its covered in mannequins and racks and racks of clothes of various styles. Yuri walks in and goes over to the counter where they display smaller accessories.

>>
>>3767236
>>3767264
Huh, a tie. Let's debate our points?
>>
>>3767283
Book club will keep us close with Yuri. It will also lend itself to reading. There is probably a bunch of information that can help us.

That said, book clubs often all read the same book according to a schedule and discuss that book. Which means we might not necessarily be choosing the book we read for club and end up reading useless fiction.
>>
>>3767299
I think that choosing a sports club would be useful - can't rely on potential powers too much and we'll have a semi-plausble excuse if our physical performance would look better that people expected of us.
So my choice is purely practical - helps with chasing stuff, running away, build up stamina, and get an excuse when we pull some ridiculous stuff.
>>
>>3767283
Sure. I'm thinking that since we've established Marina as a fan of a magical girl anime, she'd prefer joining the Anime/Manga club, and since there's a reading component to the club, there might be a chance that we could see Yuri with her book club.

Plus, there's a couple of manga and anime out there that sort of fit our new situation, like Parasyte, or that we could take inspirations for new traits from, like in Terra Formars.
>>
>>3767299
>>3767313
Hmm, can't we just ask Yuri to keep an eye fod stuff that could be useful for us instead of joining reading clubs?
>>
>>3767309
We are already going to be taking already taking martial arts class. That should help explain above standard fitness. And we don't need to actually exercise to build up endurance and stuff, we can just eat our way there.

>>3767313
Anime and Manga tend to be very much fiction. I think non-fiction would be much more useful. Getting into Magical Girls would be cute though.
>>
>>3767318
Learning isn't just useful for learning food. Learning about the history of the town might teach us old, obscure, but still existing and useful facts.
>>
>>3767325
Although I suppose if we learn about it in a club, that obscure info might suddenly be a lot less obscure with some people that will personally know us.
>>
>>3767325
But we can ask Yuri or just visit the library in our free time instead. And teakwondo doesn't teach running, plus my point was about NOT relying on our powers too much. Especially when we don't have any.
>>

Well, in terms of learning how to get over being able to eat animals and people to gain their abilities, we're probably only going to see examples of that in fiction, at least until we start up a cult. And even with that, we'll be mostly running blindunless OP decides that there's other kids that have fragments of Dentata riding with them, or some other anime-esque trope.

>Getting into Magical Girls would be cute though.
Pretty sure Marina's already into it. That's kinda why I went with Anime/Manga.

Wonder how useful a soccer ball would be as a weapon. At the very least we should be able to knock someone down (after eating a couple long pigs, at least) so they stop running from us.

You leave Yuri and head over to the soccer team's booth. The booth is just a foldout table and a green tablecloth with a cardboard sign. Maning the table is Tilly. She's dressed in the soccer uniform for your school's team. The Haverford Strikers. She still has on her hat and skating pads. She sees you coming and quirks a brow.

"Marina Steel. The little princess? What are doing over here? You never seemed the sports type."

You tell her you are trying to be more physically minded. It's important to stay in shape after all. You hear a boinging in your head. It's Blorby again.

"Yeah right, poyo. You show a kid how to fight once and all of a sudden they try to become a combat specialist."

Tilly hands you a sign up sheet and you sign it and hand it back. She puts it down on the table and looks back up at you.

"Go to the field behind the school after classes on friday. We don't really do tryouts anymore because EVERYONE'S A WINNER."

She says that last part with a fair amount of distaste.

"However we still have to assign positions so we need to see what you're good at. Now beat it. Your lacey bow is gonna scare away all the tough kids."

She shoos you away and you find yourself in the middle of the gym. You have about an hour on your hands. You can talk to people or poke around other parts of the school. You could also try and find Yuri and hang out before classes resume or chat to that grey blob in your head.

>What do you do?
>>
>>3767419
>look for a group to join in
Would be strange if our princess didn't have an entourage. Don't want to cling to Yuri too much, though she's still our bestie.
>>
We should try to eat someone before friday. It would feel fun if we kicked butt (but not too much butt kicking) while wearing our bow.

Do note that Tilly is affiliated with the Wild Bunch.

>3767419
I can't really think of anything to do except
>Find Yuri, ask to use phone again, and correct that tip.

>If nobody else is listening, ask if Yuri if she'll be okay in book club without us. Also tell her we don't mind her making new friends, but she should take care to not to get attached to other divine fragments.

>>3767433
Having a group might happen naturally as a result of joining a club.
>>
>>3767435
On second thought wearing the bow while playing soccer might get it dirty. Maybe it would be best to wear the hand-me-downs on Friday for that reason too.
>>

Cool. They also sticky.
BTW I said they aren't super long. They are still proportionally long compared to a human. But they are still far short of chameleon proportionally long.

Speaking of animals:
Since we are doing soccer, maybe we should eat an animal that likes to head butt (e.g. male goats). Pretty sure such animals have a tendency to have adaptations that make head butting safer. You go to find Yuri and borrow her phone again. After updating your tip to the sheriff's office you hand it back. You tell her to have fun with book club to be wary of any possible reincarnated gods. You do add that you hope she can make some new friends. She smiles at you.

"I'll be okay. As far as ww know there is just you and the creep who left that note. But yeah maybe I'll meet some new people. It's been just you and me for years. Hopefully they are as interesting as you are."

You walk away and head back to the main thrall of students.

>>3767433

After having that disscussion with Yuri you wonder about your own social life. It has been just you and Yuri in your own closed orbits for a long time. It's good to have a best friend but other friends would be nice as well. You see that there are a few kids on the bleachers who have already finished applying to clubs.

At the top there is Ingo, a member of the Games Club. He is a short kid with red messy hair and freckles across the bridge of his nose. He is wearing cargo shorts and a black hoodie. He has a pin on his hoodie that looks like a d6. You hear he is an expert in various cardgames and likes to teach new members how to play various games. He is reading a comicbook.

Further down at the end of the bleachers is Sasha. A girl with dark poofy wooly hair tied into two puffy pig tails. They are almost perfectly round. She isn't in any club but she is in a small jam band with a few other kids. She has no instrument but she makes rhythms on her computer. She wears a denim jacket covered in patches from various niche bands and a pleated skirt. She is currently bobbing her head to whatever is playing on her headphones.

Finally there is Asher leaning against the wall by the exit. He's a bit of a strange one. He isn't in any social groups but everyone seems to agree he's okay. His grandfather Gregor is the local Illuminate. He has his hair cropped short and has mild vitiligo around his eyes, contrasting with his dark skin. He wears a crisp white buttoned up shirt with the sleeves rolled up and khaki pants. He wears a Solarist rosary around his neck. He is simply standing there and nodding to people as they pass.

You feel kinda nervous now but socializing is important. Who do you talk to?

She hums thoughtfully. She turns her phone around to show you a wierd app. It looks like a sound visualizer with virtual nobs and dials.

"It's a frequency generator. I'm just randomizing pitches until I find one that sounds appealing. Then I save it and layer rhythms over them."

She hands you over her headphones and you put them on. You can hear it more clearly. It's got a good feel to it but it sounds strange. The process she uses makes the music sound almost otherworldy. You hand them back and sit down adjacent to her.

You look up for a sec and see Yuri walking over. You wave her over and she steps up to the bleachers.

"Hey Marina! I finished signing up for book club. What club did you sign up for."

You let her know you signed up for soccer.

"Really? If we aren't careful people will think we're..."

She shudders visibly.

"meatheads."

She turns to Sasha.

"Hello. You're the percussion for Grub right?"

Sasha's face sours.

"Yes but please don't say our garbage band name. It was Todd's idea and me and Norman didn't want to alienate our vocalist."

After some more chatter the event ends and you shuffle through your day like normal. At the end of the school day you and Yuri find yourselves with sometime before you head back to Yuri's to watch the premiere of your favorite show.

>Let's go to the Wild Bunch hide out.

If anyone is at the hide out, we can ask when the fight is. If we have time, we can also set traps for big game while we are in the forest, which might be helpful for soccer tryouts or preying on long pig.

"Are you gonna eat it here? Maybe we should find somewhere away from other people."

>>3768826

You tell Yuri you wanted to go into the woods to see what the Wild Bunch is up to. You can eat it there.

You two begin your walk to the woods and as you walk Blorby interupts your thoughts.

"Psst. Hey kiddo. You sure you want Yuri to see you kill a fish. Yeah she understands what you do, poyo. But understanding and knowing are different things entirely. What are you gonna do about it kid?"

After you make it to the woods you try and find a secluded clearing away from prying eyes. You have Yuri hand you the bag.

"So... are you gonna...."

You nod. You untie the baggy and pour its contents into your hand. The water sloshes onto the ground through your fingers and the twitching fish remains in your palm.

You open your mouth. It begins to change into it's TRUE form. Yuri has seen glimpses here and there, but she has never seen it change. The corners of your mouth begin to tear open at the seams revealing the flesh beneath the cheeks. The teeth in your mouth shift and change as monsterous knives of white break out from your gumline. The shifting of the teeth making a low grinding noise as they rub against each other.

Your jaw becomes [UNHINGED]. You tilt your head back as a low primal clicking emits from your throat. You drop the sparkling fish into your throat and in an instant it's gone.

>>Trait Gained: [GILLS]

[GILLS]: A simple but useful ability. Sprout gills from your neck at a moments notice. They are quite noticeable however. Can also be retracted just as easily.

Yuri looks a bit dazed. You walk over to her and shake her lightly. She looks up at you.

"Woah. That's... DEEPLY upsetting. Gimmie a second."

She closes her eyes and takes a few deep breaths. After a couple of breaths she turns to face you.

"I guess I need to get used to that. Besides you could always do that I guess. It's not like anything has changed. Let's keep going."

You continue your walk through the woods until you find your self at the Wild Bunch's clearing. A few ramshakle structures made of old two by fours and a pond mark up the terrain while a massive tree looms over everything. Suspended in it's thick branches is a rustic tree house with a crows nest that overlooks the clearing.

It's quiet. You can't hear anything around here moving. What do you do?

The luck you got is astounding.

You spot a ladder rung that's miscolored and wrapped with a cord on one end. You climb back down and find a hefty rock ro chuck at it. Upon doing so the board comes loose and is zipped up into the treeline. A few seconds later a large stone weighted net swings down and hits about where you would have been had you kept climbing. Good thing you spotted that when you did. Yuri looks annoyed.

"Are these middle schoolers or guerilla extremists?"

You continue your climb, pulling the wasted trap off of the rungs, and continue your ascent. Yuri following behind this time. You reach the first floor of scaffolding and are suprised at how sturdy it is. It could easily support the weight of 10, maybe 15 kids. Your dad would be impressed. Hell, YOU'RE impressed.

Up here is an empty cable spool that was clearly being used as a table. There are some cheap folding chairs of various conditions placed around it. On the spool/table is a game of solitaire left unattended. Whoever was playing left in a hurry. The cards are all out of place and some have even been knocked to the floor. Yuri comes up behind you and looks at the mess.

"I wonder what could have scared kids as rough as these guys away from their fort?"

Just as she finishes her sentence a dark shape descends from the tree line and leaps toward you and Yuri.

Deftly you draw your parasol from your bag like a sword and instead of striking you leap in front of Yuri and pop it open. The weight and force of whatever leaped out at you pushes you back a few inches as it hits the canopy of your parasol. Seems good, resolve combat indeed seems to be the way to take this beast down.
>>
>>3770790
I still think that first round we should debuff its damage and use block to make an approximation of its attack - dont want to loose a big chunk of hp on the first turn. Turtle up and let Yuri be our damage dealer.
>>
>>3770790
And Cutesy Act costs 1ap, you could use 3 more of them or throw in a Block
>>
>>3770770
Plus Cutesy Act doesn't deal damage by itself - we need to get hit to activate its effect. Your suggested actions are masochistic.
>>
>>3770805
Good point. What action queue should we use?

I think we should dump all our actions into [Cutesy Act]s and [Regal Slap]s and end with a [Wait], but does the order matter for combos, and if so, what likely maximizes what we learn about combos?
>>
>>3770823
I think we win by getting Vitality or Resolve to 0. Getting Vitality and Resolve both to 1 is pointless. I also doubt it matters how low we go, as long as we don't hit 0 in either. As I said before (with different internet), Yuri only helps with Resolve and the Eagle's Resolve is much lower than its Vitality.

Also Charm is a status effect so it should help us with every time we get hit.
>>
>>3770830
My suggestion ->>>3770620
That would be a good oppener for any first turn imho. We turtle up and let Yuri deal Resolve damage and do most of the work.
>>
>>3770839
I'm using Crunch because of its debuff, not the damage. I hope you didn't mix it up with Bite with its bleed damage.
>>
>>3770862
Yeah, I figured that out later. But still, crunch is very AP intensive and we only have 6 AP to start with.

What is an "effective attack" (for the purposes of the shame status effect) anyways? Is it just attacks that Yuri makes? Is it attacks that deal vitality damage? Is it any attack including ones that only do status effect (like Cutesy Act)?
>>
>>3770885
Because if Shame means an attack from our team that deals vitality damage, we could get yuri to inflict 3 shame, and then Pink Strike the eagle a bunch with each Pink Strike dealing 30 Resolve. 6 pink strikes dealing 30 resolve each is 180 resolve damage on turn 1.
>>
>>3770885
Our AP shouldn't matter when Yuri is the main damage dealer. We'll just be a meat wall for her and cheese out this fight with Blocks.
>>
>>3770885
I can't give a proper update yet since im at work but an effective attack is any attack that deals damage (either resolve or physical) completely unblocked. So if you blocked an attack of 35 Dmg and 15 Dmg still gets through it won't count as an effective attack when applying or triggering debuffs.

And yes you can beat an enemy by bringing its resolve or vitality down to zero. Animals have weaker resolves than sentient entities. Vitality knockouts either make an enemy too tired to fight or kill them depending on the situation. Resolve knockouts make them flee or pass out based on the situation as well.
>>
I'l be back to regular updates at 11. So you have time to finalize your opening queue.
>>
>>3770906
So you're saying that we can beat it by Shaming on the very first turn?
>>
>>3770923
If we only use 4 pink strikes (which at 3 shame and the addition of a pink rush would deal 150 resolve), we'll have enough AP to do a 2 mostly pointless Cutesy Acts before or after the Regal Strike to test combo. But we'd need to use the Cutesy Acts before the pink strikes.
That is assuming shame doesn't go away after an effective attack.
>>
>>3770604
To hell with this, let's double down on this overgrown chicken
[Regal Slap]×4
[Pink Strike]×3 Combo
[Pink Strike]×3 Combo
>>
>>3770976
I don't think we should go that far. I want to test combos when we get the opportunity.

I think we should:
[Cutesy Act]
[Cutesy Act]

[Regal Slap]
[Regal Slap]
[Regal Slap]
[Regal Slap]

[Pink Strike]
[Pink Strike]
[Pink Strike]
(Pink Rush Combo)
[Pink Strike]
>>
>>3770988
Proc of two Cutesy Acts would deal 10 damage to resolve when a single Pink Strike with 3 Shame stacks would deal 30.
>>
>>3770999
Crap, I misremembered the Eagles resolve. I remembered Marina's resolve 'health meter'.

So my previous suggestion doesn't kill on turn one. Here we go:
[Cutesy Act]

[Regal Slap]
[Regal Slap]
[Regal Slap]
[Regal Slap]

[Pink Strike]
[Pink Strike]
[Pink Strike]
(Pink Rush Combo)
[Pink Strike]
[Pink Strike]

>>3770999
The Cutesy Acts don't deal any damage. They inflict the Charmed status effect (and Charmed hurts our opponent's resolve when they hit us). Even with shame Cutesy Acts don't deal resolve damage and still only inflict the Charmed status effect.

The reason why I am suggesting we use Cutesy Act is to test Combos. There are Combos besides Pink Rush, we just don't know them yet. I think we have to stumble into them to find out. I think it's best to prod for them when we have a good opportunity, and I think now is one of those opportunities.

5 pink strikes + a pink rush is 6 damage dealing attacks, which together should deal 180 resolve. 180 > than the 170 resolve our opponent has.
>>
>>3771042
I don't think that Pink Crush Combo counts as a separate instance of attack and thus doesn't activate Shame damage proc
>>
>>3771047
I consider it separate. Maybe we can ask Teeth when they come back.

One possibility I'm considering for our turn is

[Regal Slap]
[Regal Slap]
[Regal Slap]
[Regal Slap]

[Pink Strike]
[Pink Strike]
[Pink Strike]
(Pink Rush Combo)
[Pink Strike]
[Bite]

The reason for doing this is Bite might cause problems for our prey if it flees.

You stand there on the scaffolding as you see the beaten beast beat a hasty retreat into the woods. You could probably use the trail it's leaving to hunt it down. If you don't find it now another predator will take advantage of this boon and hunt it down before you do. However if you chase it you'll have to abandon your investigation of the hideout.

You ask Yuri if she is okay as you put away your parasol and lick the eagles smeared blood from your lips. The metallic tang filling your taste buds.

"I'm fine. I got nervous and tried to spook it away by hitting it but I think I just made it.... ashamed of itself... that feels like the right word."

You let her know you wanna go after it. She nods in agreement and you both climb back down off the scaffolding. As you run along the trail of red spots you hear a scratchy voice call out from behind you. Whoever it was you couldn't make out what they were saying.

Your sprint ends as you find the Tyrant Eagle balled up in a nest of torn pelts near the entrance of a small cave. It is making direct eye contact with you. It looks like it is suffering from a low self esteem. Around you are a few felled trees with broken trunks and vines that crawl up the dead bases of these hollow oaks. If you make a wrong move you could startle the creature further into the cave.

I meant in addition to my first thing, not instead of. Well, I could see how it would be difficult to look in any direction except up with balancing a scepter on our face, but that was just an example. And maybe skipping is inherently in a hurry. If the 2 I brought up are mutually exclusive, I support my second suggestion.

So I think it's a conflict between hiding behind a parasol or trying to look adorable (assuming it's not impossible to do both)

You demurely try and approach the emotionally upset and wounded bird. You slowly open your parasol and pretend to cower behind it as you take dainty steps toward the creature. It doesn't seem to fall for your [ADORABLE] act as you had just spent the last couple of minutes beating the shit out of it. No worries. Im running two different quests on rotation under two different names. This one being one of them. I'm pretty much just using /qst/ as a writing exercise and a training bra for improving as a GM. I'm learning about the medium as I do these so I make a lot of mistakes myself. Mostly grammatical in nature but you get it.

You drop your umbrella and pounce on the Tyrant Eagle. It claws at you with it's talons in an attempt to resist but you're pretty [THICK SKINNED] so it only succeeds in irritating you. You unleash your TRUE mouth and take a ragged bite out of its neck, completely severing its head as you do. It's body spasms as its synapses and nerves fire off their final fearful commands. You take a few more bites and chew as you grind the miserable creature into pulp in your maw. The taste is similar to chicken but it has a gamey after taste. The dirt beneath you is a mess of blood and loose feathers when you finish. You already begin to feel stronger as you begin to absorb its latent potential.

You step back out of the cave's mouth into the light and call out to Yuri that you're done. She pulls her hands off her eyes and lets go of a breath she never knew she was holding.

"Sorry about that. You didn't give me any warning and I wasn't... I just wasn't ready is all. I'll try and do better next time."

She looks you over and freezes. She makes a face.

"Oh Marina look what you did."

She walks over to you and lifts up a piece of your shirt to inspect it.You look down and realize you got a few spatters of blood on your white outift. Nothing crazy but it is very clearly blood. Yuri scrutinizes over the stains.

"Blood sets very easily. You'll have to wash this when we get back to my place. You still wanted to watch the show right?"

You nod and you two leave together. Yuri leads the way as you make your way toward her house. She calls your father and her mother and let's them know you'll be hanging out at her place. You try and get Yuri's attention but she keeps going. You raise your voice.

"Yuri... please, slow down."

She stops in her tracks and turns around a bit.

"Okay."

You take her hand in yours and continue walking. Her hand feels tense and clamy. She is very clearly nervous. You muster up some words.

"Look... Yuri I... I'm so sorry. This must be a lot for you. I spent my whole life processing this other aspect of my life and I guess since you knew about it, at least a little, I had this idea that this would be an easy transition for you. I shouldn't have assumed that. This is... it's a lot. I mean... I'm not human... not in the literal sense. I had all these ideas about what my life would be like and every second they change beyond my ability to stop them from changing. The voices are more coherent now. I know what it is they want me to be but I still don't know where that'll lead me. I'm scared that with every step I take in that direction I lose a little bit more of myself and become more of something else. Someone else. Someone who isn't me. I'm scared too Yuri. Everything is freaky and wrong and I..."

You feel arms wrap around you and you stop walking. Yuri is holding you in a tight embrace. You can feel warm tears fall on to your shoulder as she mutters under her breath.

"Marina I'm sorry. I don't want you to think I'm scared of you. I'm not. I could never be. You're my best friend. I really didn't mean to make you worry, honest. I just get scared that... well maybe after all this god nonsense we won't be the same as we were when we started. I'm scared I am going to lose someone close to me. Do you understand?"

You nod. You start to second guess yourself. Maybe this isn't the right course of action. You feel a stirring in your head.

"There is no stopping now kid, poyo. The inevitable is upon us. The reincarnate of Occul knows you're here. The wheel of destiny is turning and there is no going back now."

You stand there with Yuri for a moment.

You return Yuri's hug. You don't let go for a long time and after that time passes you continue to not let go. You whisper a "thank you" into her ear when you finally let her go.

"Yuri I will always be your friend. When the stars are gone and the sun is dead I will still be your friend. I promise you. When I become a god the first thing I'l do is make our friendship a universal constant."

Yuri looks at you for a second and begins laughing.

"That's why I like you Marina. You are such a nerd sometimes."

You laugh as well and you let a second pass between you before you ask,

"Do you want to see something cool?"

She looks at you and blinks lamely before nodding. You look around for a moment before you unleash them. The coast is clear. You set them free.

You feel the muscles of your back shift as they erupt from your shoulder blades. They are glorious and alien and terrible. The sun behind you makes you appear like a grim angel. Your wings are a putrid red and sprouting from them are patches of sharp bone and tooth. You flap them once and dust is kicked up from the concrete beneath your feet. Yuri approaches you and raises a hand up to touch one.

"Can I..."

You nod. She places a hand on a patch of red and you exhale through your teeth. It feels sore. Like an aging bruise. They are still fresh. You let her touch them for a moment more before recalling them back into yourself.

You continue your walk in contented silence, side by side, when you remember something.

"Hey Yuri... do you know who it was who called out to us at the hideout?"

She scratches her chin thoughtfully.

"It had to have been Bobby. His voice sounds like that because of his accident."

You nod. Something to remember for later. After 30 minutes of walking you finally make it to Yuri's house. You step up to the door and are about to knock when you hear from behind you,

"Oh no, Marina your shirt! Take my blazer quick."

Before you can ask what she means she's already thrown it over your shoulders. She takes out her keys and opens the door. As you both walk in she calls out into the house,

"Mom! We're here. Marina got her shirt dirty so I'm gonna take her's to the washroom. We're gonna go grab her a shirt and we'll be back down in a bit."

At first you nothing but then from somewhere in the kitchen you hear back,

"This is okay. Let me call Hugo. Let him know Marina come safe."

Her words are heavily accented.

You make it up to Yuri's room and she closes and locks the door. Like always it's perfectly immaculate. You look around her room when she hands you a baggy blue sweater.

"Change into this. I gotta sew your shirt back together before I put it into the washing machine."

"Sew...", You take off your shirt and turn it over. Fuck, There are two slits along the back where your wings ejected themselves from your back. You are gonna need to find a work around for this if you wanna be able to fly regularly.

By the way, for wing hole issue. I might sort of have a solution. Depending on how high and holes the wings punch in clothes are, we could wear it with a sailor uniform. Maybe the one we already have. A Sailor fuku has a cape thing, which is only attached at the top. So if our wings pop out, they just push the cape instead of penetrating it. The cape can cover the openings the wings come out of (or make) when the wings are not in use. It would look weird if wind picks up the cape though.

That said, it would also be nice to be able to have fashion diversity, and I don't no how to modify our other clothes to be suitable for transformation, if that is even possible. We can go the mall and see if they have anything suitable once we have the money.

This isn't necessarily problem we have to solve ourselves. Yuri might be able to think of something.

You put on the sweater and start to look around Yuri's room. She's got a few new books on her bookshelf. Ellison and Danielewski. You've never heard of those authors before. She put them in her dark fiction section of her bookshelf.

They are wierd scaled and ragged slits that form on opposite sides of your neck. As you breathe they open and close. You can feel a warmth on your neck as you exhale through the vesitigial openings. Curiosity sated, you will them away and walk down stairs to the kitchen.

You walk into the kitchen and are greeted by the sight of Yuri's mother, Miriam Chernokov. She is sitting at the table playing with a set of long and strangely decorated cards. She is puffing on a cigarette as she does so. She sees you walk in and puts out her cigarette in a nearby ashtray.

"Hello Marina. It's been a while since you last came to visit. Sit please. It is nice to see you again."

You sit at the table and make a little small talk before asking if you can grab some snacks so you and Yuri can watch T.V. She smiles and nods.

"Go ahead. Cokes and sandwiches are in the fridge. They are the little cucumber sandwiches. I make them for PTA meeting but they had to reschedule."

You grab a small plate of the sandwiches and two cans of coke and walk over to the living room. On a small endtable across from a couch sits a CRT. The cablebox decorated with a pleasant doily and adorned with picture frames. You can see a photo of Yuri's dad, Yuri Chernokov Sr.

You set the snacks on the table and wait on the couch for Yuri to comeback. After a few minutes she steps into the living room and joins you on the couch. She grabs a tiny sandwich and turns on the T.V.

"You ready for the new season?"

You smile and nod and grab yourself a sandwich as the show begins.

Are we really those people QM? This is isn't a rerun. This is the first time both of us are watching this episode and it is the season premiere!
>Nothing. I guess I can ask what Yuri thought about the person who ran the book club booth during the commercial.

You make half way through the show when the commercials start. Yuri groans loudly.

"Nooooo. They were just about to reveal Pretty Pink's love interest. I mean I ~know~ that it's gonna be Contessa Cruel because the subtext from seasons 1 and 2. But I need it to be canon already."

She pouts. Since you have a chance to talk to her for a bit you ask,

"Hey Yuri, what are those new books on your bookshelf?"

She turns around to face you.

"Oh those. Well as you know I read at a college level and am quite mature for my age..."

She looks quite proud.

"so I've reading more adult horror and dark fiction novels. They are quite good. I could let you borrow them if you're interested. After I finish them, of course."

Those don't sound like your cup of tea but they sound neat. You take a bite of sandwich before turning back to Yuri.

"Who ran the book club booth?"

She finishes her coke before answering.

"Just the school librarian Mr.Maddox. He's the club sponsor this year."

You make some more good natured talk when the show resumes and you watch the rest in respectful silence.

As it ends you two sit in and enjoy this seasons new ending song. It's quite good.

Now that your show is over...

Talk about how this year's going to be the year when we'll finally make those costumes for Halloween! And this time you really mean it! You've marked down the relevant YouTube videos and everything! All we'll need is to learn how to do our makeup, sew the clothing, and make our own Pretty Scepters out of PVC piping and doorknobs!
>>

>I think Alice might be Ocuul. She's kinda strange and someone with her surname wrote a book on the religion of the Homuncuul people. Also Alice was at the cemetery, which is where we found that weird note. Also the loudest voice says that Ocuul is already in town.

We should get Yuri used to the idea that one of our classmates (and to a lesser extent, other people we might know) might be a god fragment and thus basically inherently our enemy before such a conflict actually occurs.
>>
>>3772420
I think Yuri already knows how to sew at the very least. She fixed the holes in our outfit after we created holes in them with our wings.
We also already own a toy scepter.

We should capture eat some run of the mill spider soon. This should be an almost trivial task. The Eagle has 2 mystery abilities and we got flying instead (which is still pretty sweet, but we could have probably caught a fly or something honestly). If we fight eat a Gargantuan Wing Weaver and it has something other than mundane spider silk, it would be nice if we could guarantee getting one of the other abilities instead.
I think we should catch a spider, put it in a jar, and then eat it just before we our first human (we wait because inhumanity score mechanic).

Also >>3772397
>Did you find out exactly when and where the fight tomorrow is?
>>
>>3772617
It’s for the costume. Pretty Pink doesn’t use a parasol when she’s fighting off threats to the citizens of Neo-Rainbowville. What else would show her royal chroma pedigree AND be used as a focus for her powers?
>>
>>3772638
Dude, we're at 4/5 inhumanity. Not eating anything anytime soon.
>>
>>3772638
yeah if we eat anything else we are not going to be able to hide our inhumanity.
>>
>>3772646
Are you saying that we the type of person that goes that extra mile for 'aesthetic' details that nobody else will see (or know about unless we tell them)?

>>3772656
spider in jar, jar in backpack, when we have the opportunity to eat a human (that isn't our ally or a likely ally) without getting caught, we take out the spider, eat it, and then eat the human. (assuming circumstance allows us to do both, if we can only pick one, obviously we just eat the human)
>>
>>3772671
We need to volunteer at the local hospice. That way no one will go missing that is likely to be missed or be cared about.
>>
>>3772665
We are at 4/5. We hit the debuff once we go past 5/5, not when we hit 5/5. So getting to 5/5 means doesn't mean we look less human, just that we can't seize opportunities to get more abilities as they come up until we eat a human (assuming we are not okay with the penalty).
>>
>>3772675
ok well in that changes things. I still want to eat an ant queen. to see what king of abilities we can get
>>

I've been hoping to eat Ferdnand after he loses his fight against Bobby tomorrow.
>>
>>3772680
I don't think we should eat anyone from our school. people tend to notice and care a more when kids go missing. We really should hold off on eating people until it is an absolute necessity.

>a more
a lot more
>>
>>3772671
>Are you saying that we the type of person that goes that extra mile for 'aesthetic' details that nobody else will see (or know about unless we tell them)?

No, I’m saying that making our own scepter would at least make it sturdier then the toy one and less likely to break.
>>
>>3772687
Ferdnand is strong and tomorrow he'll be weak. But you are right that people will probably notice. The closer we are to our victims in daily life (be as friends or as enemies), the more scrutiny we will be under. Especially as more people disappear. We don't want that kind of pattern. Plus Alice is our classmate, and since there is a good chance she is Ocuul, there is a good chance she'll try to kill us AND eating her would be part of the quest win condition.

>>3772695
But why do we need a sturdy scepter when we have a sturdy umbrella?
>>
>>3772675
>As you eat the inhuman you become more than human. But eventually your appearance will begin to reflect your inhumanity. After gaining 5 traits and skills via eating you will need to eat a human to reset your human appearance back to base.

Life is hard for a single parent. I assume that there are eagle chicks in that cave and that a single parent takes care of them. (Most birds are raised by 2 parents, however there are some species where older offspring help raise their younger siblings, and there are also species where only one parent takes care of the baby). I'm not sure how long the remaining parent will be up to the task. Every minute that presumable parent gone is another minute those presumable chicks are completely undefended (presumably).

You remember something from the other day and turn to Yuri, a serious look in your eyes.

"I think Alice is the reincarnate of Ocuul. One of the gods we read about in class. I think that she's the one who left the note at my mom's grave. I think that's why she went missing."

Yuri nods in thought before replying.

"She could be... maybe. I mean... everyone just thought she was schizophrenic when she said she heard voices but now that I think about it... considering your condition..."

She waves her hand dissmissively.

"We'll cross that bridge whenever we have to. For now let's not worry about it."

You agree and decide to bring up a lighter topic.

"You ready for halloween?"

Yuri whips her around to stare at you.

"Don't worry about halloween. I have us covered. Just trust me on this okay?"

That's.... concerning. You trust Yuri but you wish she didn't say it like that. You instead ask Yuri about ferdnand's and bobby's fight. Yuri makes a face.

"Why do you care what those two pigs are doing? If you're curious I might as well tell you. After school tomorrow they plan on fighting in the woods like a bunch of animals. Then again I slapped an eagle today so who am I to talk?"

Curiosity only partially sated you ask Yuri about something else.

"Is there anything else important happening this year?"

Yuri hums.

"Well. There is the big school fitness test coming up. The winner gets to appear on the local public access show."

You know the one she's talking about. Conversation Notes with Ollie Weeks. It's not bad just kind of strange. He broadcasts from the public access building on top of Old Man's bluff.

As you finish talking Yuri's mother walks over to the couch.

"Okay girls. Is late. Would you like to stay the night or should I call Hugo. Let him know you are heading home?"

I'm confident that if we eat an able bodied person our age or older before friday, we'll kick butt in the soccer try outs. And if we kick butt in the soccer try outs maybe... maybe Tilly senpai will notice us! Don't you want Tilly senpai to notice us anon?

I want to investigate the roof with Tilly and it would help if we impressed her before that. I mean how else are we supposed to impress her? A milk challenge (using chocolate milk)?

We also might want to buy a gallon or 2 of chocolate milk to impress the Wild Bunch. We can do the gallon challenge without transforming or mouth into TRUE form, right?
Maybe we can get our money back or more, if we try to make it a bet.
>>
>>3773314
We need to experiment with our "true" mouth and figure out how much of it we can transform without it being noticeable but still be able to use the power.

In this case it's not like we'd be trying to get new abilities from the milk. Just be able to swallow a gallon in an hour without vomiting. We might not need to transform our mouth. Ugh, we might need to spend money on a trial run first.

Just mentioning as a note, something for the long run.
>>

I don't want to store animals for a long time. I'm fine with it if we plan to find a human to eat in the very near future, but I don't want to bother feeding the animals and such. We could try and keep track of any habitats, and burrows, and such that we come across though.

I am fine with testing out powers, but the only one we'd really be testing is the wings probably. Max speed, acceleration, how agile, how loud? We could bring Yuri with us for security reasons if we are scared of Ocuul (I am scared of Ocuul). And it would probably go towards increasing Yuri's BP score.
>>
>>3773331
Probably avoiding us until she can start a fight to the death with us on her terms. Or better yet (for her), an ambush so flawless it'd be more like an execution.
Maybe wage some psychological warfare or something to pass the time in-between (like leaving us ominous notes in weird places).
>>
>>3773361
>ambush so flawless
Anon, that's paranoia. And I believe in Teeth as a writer to leave us some subtle cues.
>>
>>3773368
Part of the ambush being flawless is us not having allies with us. And probably no witnesses so Alice could live a normal life after the deed is done. Maybe Alice would try to kill us with a booby trap. I doubt poisoning her food would do us in. And if she is a "good guy", she'd take care to make sure we were the only ones hurt by the booby trap. In fact she might not trust a booby trap to not hurt someone innocent.
>>
>>3773383
Yup. That's totally paranoia. Are you enjoying thinking up 'rocks fall' scenarios? That's not even funny.
>>
>>3773394
I don't think it's funny either.

Geez I step out for a smoke break and this is what I see. Look... I'm not gonna be a dick and just drop a surprise ambush without dropping a few flags before hand. And even if i decided to do that unstoppable ambush (I wouldn't because that's not gameplay that would be senseless punishment ) I'd make y'all roll to avoid. I'm not here to be a dick. If I wanted to go around being a dick I'd set up shop in /pol/. If it isn't fun or push the narrative forward or expand upon the setting then I won't do it.

You grab your parasol and clench it tightly in your fist as you approach the crying figure. As you step closer you begin to make out a messy mop of yellow hair. It's a mess of leaves and split ends. The figure is curled up in the fetal position and is muttering and crying to herself. You cannot see their face. You are 10ft away from the balled figure, just outside the halo of the street light.

You call out.

"Alice... Alice is that you? Are you okay? Everyone is really worried about you."

As soon as you start speaking the figure freaks out and releases a startled yelp and makes a flailing attempt to stand. They fail and end up falling on their hands and knees with the crown of their head pointing in your direction. Now that you have a better vantage you can infact see it's Alice. She is wearing a tattered and messy school uniform. You can hear what she's saying now.

"Shut up! Shut up please... please I wanna go home."

She rises to her feet and as soon as she see's you she yelps again and takes a step back.

"You.. no I don't wanna see you. Go away! GO AWAY! You wanna hurt me. They said you wanted to hurt me. They showed me. You ate me. Will eat me."

She has a wild look in her eyes. She lifts an open palm toward you in a gesture that suggests she wants you to back up.

"Go away. They want you to leave. We want you to leave."

Her hair begins to shift slightly as if in a breeze. You feel no wind.

You take a few measured steps back and put your parasol away. You raise your hands to show they are empty. You calmly try and speak again.

"Alice, who's talking to you? Why would I want to hurt you? I don't understand. Please, tell me."

She lowers her palm and her arm sag by her side.

"The man in my head, Mr.Seek. He wanted to show me something. He said if I took a nap he'd take me somewhere special. I woke up standing alone in the woods. There were animals everywhere. They were all asleep. I couldn't wake them up no matter how hard I tried. Mr.Seek was so happy. He sounded better. He used to sound so sick. He told me about who I used to be. About how he want's me to be whole again. But then he says I need to do things. Whenever I wan't to go home I fall asleep and then I'm somewhere else again. But yesterday he started getting nervous. He showed me the future. He showed me that we are the same. No... not same. He said similar. We are similar. He said that you were mean. A monster who ate everybody and you want to eat me too. He showed me what you look like underneath. I see it now. I see how wrong you look. He won't stop showing me."

You drop your hands. She looks so thin. She could fall apart at any second. Blorby speaks up in your head.

"Oi... hey he shouldn't be doing that. He's wearing Alice like a suit made out of meat and doing weird shit in the woods, poyo. He shouldn't be strong enough to do that. Humans don't have enough base potential for him to flex that kind of control."

You hold out a hand to Alice.

"Look Alice... all this stuff. We don't have to do any of it. Let's just drop it okay. Let's just get you home. I won't hurt you. We'll go to the nearest house and we can call your mom and you can go home."

Alice looks exhausted. She stims with her fingers nervously before taking a single step forward. As she does she falters. She opens her mouth.

"Go to sleep Alice."

She falls but before she hits the ground she freezes. Perfectly still. As if she was a marionette being suspended on taught strings. She slowly tilts back, like a statue, until she is on her feet. Her head is slightly higher now and her left eye looks vacant. The right eye however...

Its a shimmering gold.

"Hey... That was close. You almost had us there little monster. I'll be damned if I let this girl anywhere near you until she can rip you in half in the blink of an eye"

Alice is speaking but the voice isn't right anymore. There is another voice layered over her own. It sounds tired. She is standing very casually now. As if the previous conversation never happened. She makes an irritated face.

"Well... aren't you gonna say hello?"

>What do you do?
>>
>>3773725
>Uh, hello Mr.Seek? You're really wearing Alice out. She looks so weak - how do you expect her do rip anything in half? Why won't you let Alice go home? Why do you want her to fight me?

>Glare at him.
Get mad. Get Angry! How dare he treat our classmate so abusively! Keeping her in a state of terror. Keeping her from home. Probably keeping her from getting enough to eat. And he calls us a monster!

You wave shyly.

"Umm.. hey Mr.Seek right?"

The thing wearing Alice makes finger guns and clicks it's tongue.

"The one and only. Nothing can hide from me you disgusting pile of meat you."

You aren't sure how to feel about all this but you press onward.

"Yeah... anyway look you are really wearing Alice down here. She looks like she's gonna die. I'm not sure how you expect her to be strong enough to rip anything in half like that."

The thing looks down at Alice's body. It hums thoughtfully.

"I see how one could think that. However this isn't really a concern. She looks a little rough but she's fine. She just hasn't been getting proper sleep is all. Funny enough being forced into a fugue state doesn't count as a goodnight's sleep. It's quite interesting really. Who knew humans we're so mentally unfit? Well... what can ya do? Every experience is a learning experience. Anyways she never needed to be physically fit to break things. She can do this."

He holds out a hand toward the light pole behind you and slowly closes his hand into a fist. You turn around to see the pole curl up like a tube of toothpaste. It groans under the invisible force and the light it casts goes out. You turn back around to see the Alice-thing, Mr.Seek, floating. His legs crossed one over the other as if he were resting them on an invisible desk.

"Pretty nifty huh? Do you know how rare it is to find a true esper. Don't bother answering. The answer is HARD. Now imagine my luck having ended up being passed down a whole bloodline of them. That, my little monster, is some grade A potential. Problem is even at their best they can only really predict the future on a good day or maybe float some spoons around. But you throw in some godly potential and a bunch of stolen inhuman potential and BOOM! Super esper."

You are getting really annoyed now. How can he be so casual about this.

"Stop being smarmy about all of this. Just let Alice go home! Why do you want to fight me so badly? What did I ever do to you?"

He goes quiet. His calm demeanor sours as his face changes into an ugly mask of distaste.

"What did you do? WHAT DID YOU DO! YOU PUTRID BAG OF FILTH AND TEETH. YOU ALMOST ENDED EVERYTHING. WE DIED. THEY DIED. WHAT WE ONCE WERE DIED! The gods of creation and rebirth and fate just fucking gone. The cycle of things is all out of whack. Did you know there are ghosts now? Just rolling blobs of soul unbound from their potential because some cosmic bigmouth isn't up in the heavens doing his fucking job and processing them. And have you seen what these humans have been doing to each other without us? Endless wars and genocides and coups and all for what? A couple of raised flags, maybe a few bucks? And I had to sit by and watch through the eyes of mortals while they fucked up all Ocuul's plans. Well fuck that. I need to fix this. We need to fix this. But I can't let you ascend. Not after the last time. But I need your godly potential to repair the cycle of creation. Then I can use my eye to find the grabby bastard, where ever he is, and put the world the way it should be. New start. Fresh beginning. I need to clean up the mess YOU... or should I say what's left of you made. It's for the greater good. If I can't save these monkeys from themselves than I'll have to do it by any means necessary."

He calms down and floats back down to earth. He's smiling again.

"But don't you worry about little Alice here. I'm not a shambling monster like you. Once I finish up my business in the woods I'll hand her back the steering wheel for a while and she can go home and go back to being a normal little girl. Now if you don't mind I've got to be going. I have to go meet some new friends."

You run toward him and try and catch him.

"Let her go you..."

but before you can finish your sentence he's spirited himself away and you run through open air.

>Tell Blorby we want to "Free Alice" from her shitty split personality. Ask if we can bring Alice back to life if we become a god. And the other people and animals we to accumulate power for that matter. Mr.Seek can stay dead though. Hopefully Alice will forgive us.
>Ask Blorby how long we have till Mr.Seek is done with his creepy animal sacrifice crap. What did he mean by new friends anyways? Are those dead animals going to become undead thralls or something?
>seek Blorby's assurance that he won't highjack us like that abusive creep. We don't want to do all this hard and unscrupulous work only for Blorby to be an asshole and "eat the world" or whatever.

----
Possibilities:
* Ring the nearest doorbell and 'knock' on the door with an umbrella until it either crashes in or gets answered and use the home owner's phone. If we want to say we saw something supernatural, Mr.Seek was kind enough to leave behind a very damaged pole to give such a story at least a shred of credibility.
* Go back to Yuri's house
* Go home
* Go to the woods. Honestly we can't defeat Mr.Seek right now. We'd have to go on quite the binge and we don't even know where in the forest they are.

We should tell Yuri that Alice has Ocuul as a split personality that is able to take Alice over. Tell Yuri that Alice looked like shit and it's Ocuul's fault. Also tell Yuri want to 'free' Alice even if it means temporarily killing her (assuming that would work). Don't leave out that Ocuul is dead set on killing us. It's kill or be killed!

We should try and convince dad we need a phone for safety reasons. It doesn't have to be a brand new one. A smart phone would be nice though.

I'm beginning to wonder if we should let dad in on the 'god thing'. I'm leaning towards no (where as before I was a hard no).
-----

Note: Alice comes from an Esperbloodline. Alice has edible parents. But it's doubtful they are "Super Espers", but maybe we could do some of the same god steroids on the esper powers that Seeks did. That said, maybe any powers they had were stolen by mr seeks.

I think the reason Mr.Seek didn't kill us now is he has a way of stealing our godly potential or whatever, except it isn't ready yet and he needs us alive (for now) so he can take our power in the near future to fix the world.
>>
We should ask blorby about ghosts sometime soon.
In thread 1 (>>3707641) blorby said we didn't have to worry about them any time soon. But it would be nice to know about the nature of ghosts, and how edible they are, because there might be one on our school's roof. And that should tell us if the idea of checking it out should be a hard no, a hard yes, or something in-between.

You stand alone there for a moment. Well... not entirely alone.

"Blorby?"

It's silent for a moment.

"Yeeeeeeeeeeessss?"

You pause and consider your next words carefully.

"What the fuck Blorby? What was that? What was all of that?"

He is quiet. An embarrased silence.

"Well... if Alice is an esper and from a bloodline of espers he must have reached proper sentience long before I did, poyo. He must be abusing the dream space, the place we met for the first time, to bend her naturally powerful potential to step behind the wheel, poyo."

This... sucks. Futher more...

"What is he doing in the woods and how is he gaining inhuman potential? I thought I was the only one who could gain potential. I thought all Ocuul had was futuresight. How is any of that possible?"

Blorby hums inside your head.

"Magic maybe. Old magic, poyo. The stuff you humans used to do to appease us. Sacrifice and ritual. Gods aren't supposed to be able to sacrifice to themselves but with a human proxy he could easily..."

He trails off. Clearly upset.

"Anyways that explains how he is getting stronger but I don't know what he meant by 'new friends'."

You feel nervous. If Mr.Seek can do that than Blorby could...

"HEY! Stop that. I'm better than that, poyo. Besides I couldn't do that even if I wanted to. You don't have enough potential for me to tap into to allow me that kind control, poyo. I'm not Dentata. I may be what's left but I am not that jealous idiot. Never forget. I am not just godly potential. I am also years and years of collected human experience. What me and Mr.Seek are is something entirely new to the universe."

You can feel the truth in his words. Whether it's because of your bond or the fact he's in your head. But he you feel like you can trust him.

"C'mon Marina... It's late. We should get you home or your dad will be worried, poyo."

You finish the rest of your walk home and after apologizing to your dad for being late you go upstairs and head to bed. It takes you a while to fall asleep.

You find yourself back in that white void, the dream space. In front of you is an amorphous fog.

"I feel like... I feel like it's hard to trust me because you don't really know me or what I'm supposed to be. What about you? What do you want me to be?"

"Can you show me what you remember of Dentata?"

The fog shifts and swirls. It condenses and becomes black. It becomes a solid mass of black tar and limbs eject themselves from the mass. As its legs form properly it stands to its full height, about as tall as your dad. It looks like a man made out of tar. Bubbling out from beneath its surface are writhing mouths and swirls of misshapen teeth.

"i'M sOrRy If ThIs Is An UnApPeAlInG fOrm."

The tar man looks at his slick hands and clenches and unclenches his fingers. Getting used to the sensation of having digits. You don't like this one either. It looks uncomfortable just existing.

"You should just be what you want to be."

The faceless thing raises its head to look at you. It slowly begins to melt into a puddle of black.

"wHaT dO i WaNt To Be?"

It melts further until it's just a spill on the floor.

"I want to be loved. I've been alone in here for so long. I want to be a friend."

The small blot errupts upward into a pillar of black and forms a solid, smooth obisdian cylinder. A foot steps out from the pillar, as if it were made of nothing. In a second the figure is fully freed from the structure.

It's a man. He is wearing a black tail coat with dark dress pants. His hands are covered by white gloves. His eyes are obscured by a mop of dark hair. His skin is a sickly pale. His mouth is upturned into a permanent toothy smile.

"This feels right. I feel... good. But what should my name be. Everyone needs a name and I don't want to steal one from a children's game again."

He walks over to you.

"It's thanks to you I exist at all. What do you think my name should be?"

"What really happened all those years ago? Between the gods I mean. What did Dentata do?"

Droog slouches over, depressed.

"It happened exaclty like it said in the book. Dentata got jealous of Manno and Ocuul. He got angry about it and like a child he tried to eat the universe. People, animals, gods, all of it. So the other two nuked themselves to kill Dentata and in the process threw the cycle of creation out of whack."

He pauses and looks up. He is clearly very ashamed.

"I know it wasn't me. I am not Dentata, just his scraps. But I have some of his memories and I can still feel his jealousy. His loneliness. I need to make you whole so I can fix this mess he left me with."

You give him a second of silence before you ask your next question.

"Is there a way to stop him from turning me into a pretzel? I really don't want to die like that."

He strokes his chin thoughtfully.

"I suppose if you can kick him out of the driver's seat next time you face him. Alice doesn't seem to be as compatent with her abilities as he is. She is still just as strong but she is clearly much less experienced."

You ask the most important question.

"Can I save Alice? Do I have to eat her?"

He frowns.

"I'm sorry Marina. I really am but there isn't..."

He stops midsentence and freezes in place.

"Well wait... actually there might be one way. We aren't pure human potential. We're like soul cancer. A symbiote. If someone were to perform a powerful excorcism theoretically it could separate something like me or Mr.Seek from their host. Problem is I'm not sure we know anyone who can perform one. An excorcism I mean. We'd need a Solarist or a Naturalist to do it."

That gives you a few ideas. Something to keep in mind.

>>3775518

"Can you tell me anything about ghosts?"

He shakes his head.

"Only a little. They used to be purely theoretical. Every living thing is made of physical matter, potential, and a soul. When they die the physical body would rot and Dentata would separate the potential and the soul so the soul could reincarnate and the potential could be repurposed to fuel the cycle of creation. But with the cycle all muddled up I guess a few souls stuck around with a small nugget of potential embedded and just... exist without physical form."

You feel bad for anyone stuck like that. Which reminds you.

"If I become a god... can I bring back the people and things I ate?"

He makes a face.

"You aren't supposed to... but if you really wanted to you could."

You only have one more question.

"How long until Mr.Seek comes for us?"

He looks down.

"I don't know... I just don't know"

Then you wake up.

You are alone in your room. Your alarm is blaring. It's 4:30.

I was planning on having Marina Steel be pretty evil and focused on achieving apotheosis without regard for most people if it suited her desire for omnipotence, but I don't think I want to go that route anymore. Marina has demonstrated a readiness to eat animals, maybe she is still willing to prey upon jerks or people that aren't long for this world anyways (like people that are super old or super sick). Alice isn't either of those. Marina did say she wanted to become a god even if it require a lot of death and destruction, but maybe it was just more abstract then. Much like why Droog/Blorby had doubts about letting Yuri see us eat.

I don't really see a point in saving Alice if we will still need to eat her anyways. But he say we don't have to eat her. I assume we can eat Mr.Seeks even after he has been exorcised. Maybe the exorcism involves trapping the spirit in some sort of vessel (which we would then eat).

"You aren't supposed to... but if you really wanted to you could." I wonder if there is any negative consequence of bringing someone back after eating them. I can still see Marina doing bad stuff if she can just undo it later.

>Not supposed to? What's wrong with bringing people back after I eat them?

You get off the bed and do some morning stretches. You unbutton everything except for the top few buttons on your night shirt and unfurl your [WINGS]. The shirt back flips up as the wings shoot out. You rotate them and give them a few test flaps. Some loose papers in on your floor are inched away from the small breeze your wings produce. You look at your back in the mirror and see where the wings sit on your back. You recall them and watch as they melt and writhe back beneath the surface of your skin. You get an idea.

You go to your dresser and pull out your sailor fuku. Just as you thought. If you cut slits in the back for your wings you can cover the holes with the little cape. You do so and staple the ends of the slits to keep them from tearing further. You make a mental note to ask Yuri to sew the slits in properly.

"Don't worry I'll remind you."

Droog chimes in from inside your head. While you have him here...

"Hey Droog. Why shouldn't I bring people back after I eat them?"

You can feel him getting upset.

"Look. The cycle of creation and destruction. Life and death. Is only supposed to move one way. Forward. You shouldn't just go around resurrecting people. It doesn't end well. We already have ghosts floating around the place. I really don't want to see what'll happen to reality if you hit rewind on a dead person."

You can feel the concern he's giving off. You'd do well to remember his warning. Morbid conversation aside you head downstairs, dressed for the day in the modified sailor fuku.

You get on the family computer and try to research people who can perform excorcisms. You find a few videos of solarists holding aloft gold leafed candles glowing wih ethereal blue flames. They are using them against people who are more often than not tied down or restrained and thrashing about. Beyond the videos are articles about people questioning the safety and reason behind excorcisms. You are however unable to find any names or addresses for local excorcists. The only solarist figure you know in town is Illuminate Gregor. Well and his grandson Asher. The only time you ever see him is at lunch though.

You head back up to your room to get your bag ready for school. If you leave as soon as your dad wakes up you'll have some free time to explore the town. However you can also have him give you a ride and explore the school building before classes start.

We could tell him we've received death threats, but I'm worried that means less freedom to walk around.

>Explore the town
Maybe we'll find a hunting ground that is a stone's throw away from being on the fringe of ethical, or maybe already on the fringe of ethical! (hospice or prison probably). Or maybe a place with interesting animals that isn't the first pet store we went too. Small chance we encounter Gregor before school.

>Also do a little running. See if the 'wind' lifts up the cape-collar thing high enough that the slits are exposed.
We should also ask Asher for his grandpa's contact info if it's not on the internet during lunch. I assume it isn't on the internet. Then call Gregor during lunch. He should know Alice is possessed immediately. He might need to get special materials or maybe call someone or a group of people that aren't in town, and they might take time to get here. I wanna find places where we can find humans to eat that would be within a stones throw of being remotely ethical (i.e. a place that has despicable people or people that are going to die soon anyways). Even if the town doesn't have a hospice or a prison, it probably has a regular hospital or a retirement home. But it might be more efficient to find such places using the internet than walking around.

>Library
The library probably has computers and internet. While we are there, maybe we can find something on the animals that live in the woods (our woods). We don't have a library card, but I assume we can get one. Another thing that might be worth looking into is rituals. Can they only be preformed at certain times of the day? How long do they take? Although for those there might be a lot of inaccurate stuff (as in rituals that some people do, but the rituals actually don't do anything) and it might be best to just ask Droog. Also I assume the public library has a larger inventory than the school library.
We can also ask Yuri if she knows of anyone not long for this world. We met Alice last night and learned we probably don't have the metaphorical stomach to kill an innocent young person that probably still has a long time to left live (baring murder or a car accident or whatever) if we can help it. Apparently we aren't probably going to have true omnipotence even after we become a god.
>>
I wonder if Gregor can tell us accurate info about ghosts. We can probably eat them in principle, but we might have to do something like bind them to a vessel and then eat the vessel first. Gregor might know about things like where we are most likely to find a ghost and other stuff. There is probably a ghost on the school roof, but I think we might want to find more than one ghost.

>Also, when we are near a place nobody can hear us, go to that place and quietly ask Droog if eating a ghost would reset our inhumanity the same way eating a human would. They still have a human soul and some 'potential', right?

Also, I have a question QM, does our inhumanity thing start acting up once we hit 5/5 or once we go past 5/5?
>>
>>3777116
I meant bind them to a vessel first, and then eat the vessel.
>>
Oh, if exorcisms work by taking stuffing a ghost in a vessel forever, maybe there is a place with a bunch of vessels, and if eating a ghost resets our inhumanity, then we can just eat a vessel. Hopefully the vessels will fit in our mouth or the ghost can be transferred into one that fits in our mouth.

Even if that was the case, there is no guarantee such vessels would be stored in our town though.

>>3775957
I'm not sure why I get why Droog once to fix the world since his pitch for offering us divinity included "All destroying, poyo."
Plus I assume Alice trusted Mr.Seek.

But I don't see how we win the quest without becoming a god and trusting Droog to not screw us (and everyone else) over.

You enter the library and see a few students doing some last minute homework at a few of the tables. There are a few bookshelves each one dedicated to a specific genre. The right side of the room contains the fiction books and the left side contains the nonfiction. Toward the back are some computers. On one of the computers is Ingo. He is playing RunicScape and collecting large amounts of an item called monkey nuts. At the check out/return desk is Mr.Maddox. A tall wirey albino man. His eyes are obsured by large red coke bottle glasses. His hair is a tuft of shaggy white. He is wearing a baggy turtleneck and slacks. The best way to describe the way he jitters about is moth-like. He is organizing books on a return cart when he sees you.

"Why hello there. Is there something I can help you with? Perhaps you'd like me to recommend a book. Or maybe a graphic novel? We have a fairly extensive collection of omnibuses for a plethora of popular series."

"Can you help me get a library card?"

He smiles.

"Do not worry. Students can check out books from here or the public library using their student ID numbers. That way we can reduce the cost of late fees for active students and young children."

That's good to know. At least you won't have to worry about getting a card. Mr.Maddox is smiling amicably.

"Is there anything else you needed?"

His voice is mello and strange. Like he is half asleep. He has been at this school for a few years now and no one is really sure how old he is due to his condition. He could be anywhere from 28 to 40. But since he's been here for a while you figure he might know something about one of your school's more popular rumors.

"I hear the roof is haunted. Is there any truth to that? Did anyone die on school grounds?"

He frowns slightly and sighs.

"One moment."

He walks over to a bookshelf behind his desk and pulls out an old yearbook from the year 1995. He flips to the 8th grade section and stops on a page titled, In Memorium. The only picture on this page is a school photo of a boy with a scraggy goatee and freckles. He looks so unhappy in this photo. He is wearing a baggy red t-shirt over a longsleeve white button up.

"This is Gabriel Forscythe. Tilly Forscythe's older brother. He was a very lonely boy. The only thing he ever really liked to do was play his guitar. He had very few other interests aside from his music. From what I heard he was bullied for his whole academic career here at this school, no one knows what for. One day the janitorial staff simply found him dead on the roof. He had taken his own life. Quite tragic really. It is always a shame when people feel so powerless."

You nod. If ghosts are real then it is possible that Gabriel is still floating around school somewhere.

"The students think the roof is haunted because sometimes when it is quiet you can hear singing coming from the roof. They say it's Gabriel. Mourning the life he didn't get to live. But I think that's enough about that. Say... If you are interested in the supernatural I may have just the novel for you."

He goes digging through the return cart and pulls out a book and places it on the desk. The book is titled Barrow Falls by Pruenella Vasquez. The cover shows an image of a young girl dressed in a victorian dress holding aloft a candle. At the corners of it's light are vaguely transluscent hands grasping toward her.
Mr.Maddox smiles.

"It is a lovely mystery novel about a young lady who moves into a house and hunts the spirits within its walls. A very good read."

Humoring him you check out the book. Having learned what you came here for you realize you still have a little more time before classes.

Ideally I'd like to poke Asher, Gregor's grandson, and ssk him about ghosts and exorcism. The problem is - we have no idea where to find him or is he even at school right now. So I voted to look around the garden, since we already have a general idea what's going on in other parts of the school.

You decide to take a walk down to the student garden around the corner of the building. A few garden boxes full of lovely flowers of various colors. Adjacent to these boxes is a greenhouse full of strange tropical vegetation that Ms.Greene tends to.

Around the corner from the greenhouse is a bench that faces the boxes of flowers. Kneeling by a box of Candle Roses, strange flowers with waxy white stems and leaves, is Asher. He is pulling weeds from the box. There are quite a few in a small clump piled beside him. Next to the pile is a watering can.

You walkover to Asher and sway sweetly on the balls and heels of your feet.

"Hiya Asher. Whatcha doooooin'?"

You tilt your head sweetly. Like a curious puppy. Asher blushes slightly.

"I'm tending the candle roses. They are very special to me. My grandad says they are a symbol of Sol's love for man. Everytime I see how pretty they are I can't help but agree."

You look over the flowers. The yellow-red petals contrast nicely with the waxy stems. Your enjoyment of the flowers is interupted by a sudden thought. Asher's grandad is an Illuminate. Maybe Asher knows something about excorcisms. Not sure what to ask you kinda just open your mouth and...

It's quiet for a long time. Inside your head you can feel Droog reeling.

"Marina... what the fuck Marina? Why double down? We're so fucked."

Yeah you should have thought this through a little more. Asher is glaring at you now.

"What do you mean the spirit in Alice? What do you know about that missing girl? If she were possessed I'd know so what's your game here Steel?"

He takes a dangerous step toward you.

"And Gabriel Forscythe... Tilly's dead brother? The hell do you mean he's on the roof? You never seemed like the ghoulies and goblins type before Steel and now you're little miss ghostbuster? Maybe you're the one who changed."

He presses his thumb into a thorn on the candle rose and holds it toward you. In the other hand he holds up the Solar Pendant that dangles from his neck. He begins to chant in a tongue you are unfamiliar with and his voice slowly raises in volume as he speaks. The last words he utters are,

"In Sol's light may all things hidden be known."

The petals on the flower slowly become blue. After a few moments the petals turn a sickly brown and wilt, falling off the stem.

He drops the stem and takes a few frightful steps away from you, almost tripping on the pile of weeds.

"What the hell are you? What are you? You aren't Marina. You aren't human."

The albino patches around his eyes are faintly glowing. Whatever he just did he can see you. The TRUE you. It must not be a pretty sight.

"Sorry for that, Asher - these are recent changes. I can explain if you're willing to listen. But everything that I've said about Alice is true - I belive she's in a situation similar to mine, only worse."

He pauses where he is and without turning away from you reaches for his bag. He pulls out a Sol candle and a book of matches.

"Talk beast. If I think you're on the level we'll both walk away from this fine. If I think you're lying to me for even a second you're gonna get a faceful of Sol's divine light."

You drop your hands and straighten yourself out.

He looks into your eyes for a long moment afterwards. His orange eyes digging into your soul as he tries to find an ounce of falsehood. He relaxes as he fails to find any.

"Fine. But I decide where we meet."

He pulls a pen and a piece of paper from his bag and hastily scrawls some digits on it.

"Here. My phone number. After school call me and I'll set up a time and place for us to meet tonight. Come alone. No funny business. And for the glory of Sol don't look at me anymore. At least until the prayer wares off. You look foul."

He picks up his bag and leaves in a hurry. You are left in the garden by yourself.

You are staring at Asher's number on the slip of paper. Fiddling with it between index finger and thumb. Your confrontation playing in an unending loop in your head. You are startled when a folded shirt is thrust onto your lap.

It's your princess shirt. You look up to see Yuri. She is smiling down at you.

"You in there Marina? You've been spacing out all day. Are you okay? You seem tense."

You have her sit down beside you and you tell her everything. Last night under the street lights. Alice. Mr.Seek. Your plan to excorcise Alice. Most importantly Asher. You grab Yuri by the shoulders.

"He knows. He saw me. The TRUE me. He performed a Solarist prayer and suddenly he could see what I really look like. Now he wants to meet me. Alone."

Yuri looks very worried.

"I just got this today. Put in your number. I'll call you when it's over. Don't worry. I'll be okay."

She does like you ask and enters her number into the phone. Yuri pouts and gives you a hug.

"You better not get hurt. If I find out you let yourself get hurt I'll kill you."

You let Yuri go and watch as she dissapears down the street. You call Asher. It rings a few times before he picks up.

"Hey monster... come to the woods. You'll find me in the clearing by the cemetary."

He hangs up. You figure you might as well get this over with. You walk briskly towards the treeline and begin your trek to the meeting place. Droog stirs inside your mind.

"Marina... What are you gonna do? What's the plan here?"

That's a good question. You really wish you had one.

After almost 40 minutes of walking you begin to see a faint glowing from within the woods. You step into a clearing illuminated by a few sparse sol candles. They glow a calming yellow. In the middle of the clearing is Asher. He is pouring over some large leather bound books. He is muttering to himself and seems to be getting frustrated. He looks up and sees you. He sighs and closes the book and walks over to you carrying it under his arm. He stops about 5 ft away from you.

"Good. Now before we begin I need to do a few things to make sure you won't kill me."

He produces from his pocket a leather pouch. He unties it and pours what appears to be a course shimmering sand into his palm. He uses the sand to arrange a sizeable circle of the substance but stops short of completing it. He points at it.

"Step into the circle."

You are about to take the first step when you let your foot fall short of the circle. You hear Asher groan. He sounds annoyed.

"Sol's blessed light! What is it now?"

You pull out your phone and call Yuri. You loudly let her know that you will call her again and If she doesn't hear from you to assume something went wrong. You make sure Asher can hear you. You hang up and put the phone away.

Asher looks at you with very clear annoyance.

"Yes! Good! We both have insurance! Are you happy now beast! Now, please.... can we finally get this over with?"

You step in to the circle. As you enter you whip your head to angrily face Asher. You're kind of tired of his shitty attitude.

"One more thing. It's Marina. Not beast. Not monster. Not demon. Marina. You got that Asher? At the end of the day I'm still me."

He tries to ignore you but you can clearly see he's mildly ashamed. He looks away.

"Yeah well... if this goes well I'll be sure to apologize properly."

He finishes the circle using the last of the sand. He goes over and grabs one of the books from where he left them. It looks very old and a golden sun is embossed on the cover. As he pours through it you quietly ask Droog if the god of Solarism is real.

"Well yes. Dentata, Ocuul, and Manno used to be the only gods around. They came into existense when the world did/when The Man died. But the other gods. Sol, Verdant, and Inspira came into existense when humans believed in the idea of them hard enough. They made up myths and stories and believed hard enough an eventually poof. They exist. Kind of like Tulpas. If people stopped believing however they would probably cease to exist."

You nod in understanding. As soon as your talk with Droog ends Asher comes back holding aloft the book. He is muttering more of that strange language. He finishes his ritual in english.

"DARK PASSENGER BE BOUND!"

The circle faintly glows an ethereal yellow. Asher puts down the book and backs away a few feet.

"Okay! Try and walk out of the circle."

You do as instructed and easily walk through the circle. Asher's eyes widen. But he sighs in relief and kicks the sand circle out of form. The glow dissipating as he does so.

"Okay. So you aren't possesed or any kind of vengeful spirit. So that means you just aren't human. But if you can walk through then you aren't wicked or malicious in intent. So I think we're safe to talk. First of all though..."

He takes a step forward and starts walking around you in circles. Curiously examining you.

That's kind of a tough one.

He stops and collects himself.

"B- Marina. I'm sorry I insulted you. That came from a place of fear. I have a certain history when it comes to excorcisms and spirits and you were acting wierd. I apologize but please understand I was coming from a place of negative past experience."

You can accept that. You turn around to face him.

"Firstly if I'm being honest I don't know what we are. Me and Alice I mean. I mean we weren't changed we were born like this. I'm mostly human. I just got a little bit extra of something else. The little extra has a bit of a mind of its own. Which is why Alice would sometimes 'hear voices'. Which is why I came to you. To get help for Alice. Not to work out labels."

He nods. He starts to pick up his books.

"So what did you want from me. If you can walk through the circle then whatever you said is in Alice probably could too."

You realize that means if you do go through with the excorcism route you won't be able to use whatever Asher does to hold Alice/Mr.Seek still. You'll need to find a way to physically keep them from moving. You sigh and explain.

"Remember how I said that 'little bit extra' has a mind of its own. Her's found a way to kind of hijack her body and is doing ritualistic magic in the woods. It won't let Alice go home until its finished whatever dark thing its doing. We believe, me and my 'little bit extra', that a strong enough excorcism could seperate her from her worse half."

He finishes putting away his things and collecting the candles.

"Come with me to my place. I have more books on the subject of excorcism there. Also go ahead and call your friend. I'm gonna call mine so we don't get two people freaking out and running around the woods trying to find us."

You call Yuri to let her know it'll be okay and that you and Asher seem to have settled things. You also text your dad to let him know you'll be staying late at a friends place and will be home later.

You close your phone and hear Asher talking to somebody very animatedly on his phone.

"No you can't come... Because it's excorcism stuff... No they aren't dangerous... well i'm alive enough to call you aren't I?... Look, no don't- INGO! Sto... he hung up."

He looks down at his phone and back up at you.

"We may have a guest joining us later. I hope that won't be an issue."

You'll have to deal with that when it becomes more relevent.

After a walk through the woods you find yourself walking up the chapel steps and knocking on the large wooden doors. Illuminate Gregor steps out. He looks down at you and Asher mildly surprised.

"Hello Marina. Have you come back to pay respects?"

You shake your head.

"I'm here to hang out with Asher."

He looks very happy. He turns to Asher.

"It's good to see you're making some new friends. I was worried it would be just you and that boy Ingo playing your dice games forever. Go on upstairs. Have fun."

You are about to walk in when Ill.Gregor places a hand on your shoulder.

"Oh. Before I forget. Do you still have that Sol lantern?"

"Yes. But could I hold on to it a little while longer?"

He nods.

"You may. But should the candle ever wear down to nothing return here or simply ask my grandson for another. It will keep you safe from the night."

You smile at the old man.

"Yes sir. I'll remember that."

You leave him in the entryway and find the stairway. You follow it upstairs to find quite a humble living space.Aside from the main sitting room and around a corner is Asher's room. The door is slightly ajar. You step inside.

It's an absolute mess. For someone as uptight as Asher you expected his room to be neater. There are papers all over the floor and plenty more tacked on to the walls. In the corner is a massive bookshelf. It's full to bursting with old books. You even see a scroll or two somewhere on a higher shelf. At a desk in a corner is Asher. He is typing on a very old computer. The screen is strange with green text on a black screen.

He turns his chair around to face you.

"So. If you want me to help you I need more details. You said they we're doing rituals out in the woods. What do you know about these rituals?"

You. With Droog's help, explain godly potentials, human and inhuman potentials, and Alice's powers as an esper. You also tell him about Mr.Seek killing all those animals in the woods by forcing Alice into a fugue state. You also mention Alice's foresight and how Mr.Seek left a note on your mother's grave. Which is why you've been so shaken these past few days and slipped up in the garden.

He goes to his shelf and pulls out a few books. One is old. It has a picture of occult diagrams on the front. He goes to look for another book but he can't seem to find it.

"As the sun as my witness I can never find that damned book when I actually need it."

You look around the room dramatically and fix him with a withering glare.

"Maybe if you didn't live in such a pigsty you could actually find your things."

He turns to chastise you.

"Look I-"

But is cut off by a loud and fast clomping of feet as Ingo kicks in the ajar door and sends papers from the floor flying from the gust of the violently swinging door. On his head is an old bucket that has been repurposed into a helmet with a metal sliding visor. He is holding aloft a slingshot currently with its sling pulled back and knocked with a d20.

"AAAAAAHHHHH WHERE IS- oh hi Marina- WHERE IS THE MONSTER?"

Asher, unfortunately, was behind the door and recieved quite a knock on the head as the door was kicked open. He slowly rises off the floor.

"Ingo you idiot I said I was fine. And what was your plan? Pelt a monster to death with plastic."

Ingo puts down the slingshot and loosens his hold on the rubberband.

"Well no... I also brought ball bearings and my sword."

Sure enough on his back is a wooden sword. It actually looks rather well made. Asher turns to you.

"Please excuse him. He gets overly excited when he gets to act out his hero complex."

A wounded "Hey" escapes Ingo's mouth as he takes off his helmet. His red mess of hair poofs out as the air hits it.

Asher takes you to a corner of the room.

"Look. I think I know what this Mr.Seek is up to but I would need to find one of his ritual sites to know for sure. I know he seems like an idiot but Ingo knows the woods like the back of his hand. We'll have an easier time if we get him involved. You don't have to tell him anything if you don't want to but I think we should bring him with us."

You turn to look at Ingo.

You approach Ingo. He gets kind of nervous as you walk closer.

"Look if you and Asher were having an important talk I can just-"

You cut him off.

"No it's fine. We actually need your help."

Ingo looks confused.

"My help? With what?"

You explain to him the nature of Alice's dissappearance and how you and Asher need to find Mr.Seek's ritual site. Ingo strokes his chin in thought.

"It would have to be somewhere high in wildlife... He's probably getting the animals from Deer Creek if not doing it there for ease of convenience"

Asher comes over to join your conversation.

"Deer Creek? Where is that."

Ingo walks over to the desk and grabs a loose sheet of paper. He begins to draw a rather detailed map of the woods. He points to a large clearing far into the forest.

"Here, Deer Creek. Largest water source in the woods. Animals tend to flock here to drink and eat from the abundant foliage and berries here."

Asher grabs a few books and sticks them in his bag. He grabs a few candles from a drawer and a handfull of candle roses from a vase next to his computer. He turns to you and Ingo.

"I need some time to prepare. I'll meet you at that clearing where I made the circle in about an hour. If there is anything you two need to get go and get it now."

Ingo grabs his things.

He leaves in an excited hurry.

You are alone with Asher. He is on his desk pouring over various tomes. You see by the now empty vase is a picture of a dark skinned man wearing a leather jacket. Around his neck is the same pendant Asher has around his neck. Next to the man is a younger Ill.Gregor. He is laughing mirthfully.

You take a seat on his cot-like bed and swing your legs back and forth. You try and think of a topic of conversation to pass the time.

"Soooooo... do you like gardening?"

He doesn't even turn around to look at you while he answers. He is very engrossed in his research.

"My grandpa got me into gardening when I was very little. It'd help me pass the time and calm myself down. It just became a very convenient skill when I needed to build up a surplus of candle roses so I just never stopped doing it. The prayer of truth requires them and it's good to have extra."

Talking about the roses reminds you.

"Hey... what were you gonna do with that candle. If I hadn't deescalated the situation."

He freezes for a second and turns his head to look ate you side eyed.

"I was going to perform the rite of fire."

You tilt your head in confusion. He blinks and pinches the bridge of his nose as he sighs.

"A fireball. I was going to hit you with a fireball."

Oh. Oh that would have been bad. Feeling the awkwardness enter the conversation and decide to help by picking up some papers from the floor. You get a very sizeable stack in your grasp when you see a paper poking out from under his bed. You pick it up to find it's a journal entry.

~I can't believe it. This is the worse time the Solarium Council could have chosen to call me to action. Marie has just given birth and I was looking forward to spending time off with our son. Our son. I never thought We'd get to have children, considering the work Marie and I do on an almost regular basis. However they say it's of the utmost importance and urgency. I hope dad will be okay caring for Asher by himself while we are away. I pray to Sol and his glorious star that we are reunited soon.

Quod sol vult,
Isaiah Sinclair~

There is no date. This paper you leave where you found it. You feel as though you have intruded on something private.

"What are you studying on that old thing anyway."

He looks back at you and scoots his chair slightly so you can see the nuclear green text of the screen. It is all mostly latin but there is some text in a language you have never seen before.

"My dad left a lot of his notes on here. Binding rituals and prayers. Journals about spirits he's captured. How spirits and greater demon's are formed. Important data. If this wasn't such an old shitty computer I could just transfer the data to my phone so instead i've been transcribing it all on to paper."

He nods to a stack of paper loosely bound with string.

"You can look at it if you want."

You pick up the loosely bound papers. You open it up and are surprised to find a table of contents.

You open it the section about the Lunarist Insurgency.

~The Lunarist Insurgency is a terrorist group that seeks to bring all to worship the Wicked Lunis by summoning spirits to possess people to force conversion. They are as old as the Solarist church itself. They hope to bring about a new age and to transcend death itself by placing the spirits of thier fallen into willing hosts so they may live forever. The Lunarium Council is in fact made up of possessed individuals that harbor multiple spirits that have been around for centuries. They no longer are singular entities but each has become fully merged with their possesing spirits and have chosen new names to represent the amalgam they have become. The most prominent figure on this council member is Lyrro. Some speculate they harbor the spirits of the founders of the Insurgency. They have been assissinated and ressurected a total of 5 times before the Solarium Council stopped attempting to use assissination as a disposal method. To make matters even more difficult whenever a host body dies of old age the hosts soul joins the amalgam and a new host is selected via a secret process unknown to the Solarium Council.-~

The book is only transcribed up to this point. The rest is presumably on the computer.

Asher stands up.

"Okay. I've memorized the relevant prayers. Let's get out of here."

You both grab your bags and leave the chapel. You both say your goodbyes to Ill.Gregor and head into the woods. After a short walk through the brush you see Ingo sitting next and petting small dog. It's a strange mutt with a cut on its ear and a spiked collar. As you approach the dog yips and Ingo looks up.

"Hey guys. I brought Rico to help us find our way. Hope you don't mind."

Ingo walks over to you and Asher and as he does the dog follows close behind.

As ingo walks you can hear a strange crinkling in his bag. Asher nods and you all walk to the treeline.

"Okay Ingo. Do the thing."

He pulls out from his bag a smelly tuft of brown hair and leather. He kneels down and puts the tuft in front of Rico. It takes a few short snuffling sniffs before it barks and sprints deep into the woods.

Ingo sprints in after it.

"C'mon guys! He's got a lead."

As you chase after him you ask Asher,

"What did he put in front of Rico?"

Asher pants as he runs.

"Probably deer pelt covered in deer piss or some other foul deer excretion. His dad is a hunter and his mother is a forest ranger for the Grandiola National Forest. He has a lot of experience tracking with his dog."

As you run you begin to hear noises come from the woods. You hope your mad dash doesn't upset any of the local wildlife.

>>Combat End.

After defeating the wasps you continue to make your way through the woods. You hear a barking ahead as Rico finds something. He is barking at the edge of
sizeable chasm. Across the gap you can hear the distant rushing of water.

Ingo looks puzzled.

"Hey... this wasn't here a month ago. I wonder what caused this kind of shifting?"

The chasm goes as far as you can see to left and right the only way forward is straight.

Around you are a few trees tilting toward the gap of the chasm. There are plenty of vines that grow in large amounts covering the withering trunks of dead trees. Down along the walls of the chasm are various roots and foot holds on both sides of the chasm. You can see something shining down at the bottom of the chasm. It sparkles in the sparse light breaking through the canopy of the trees.

It reaches about half way down the chasm wall. It will reduce the time it takes to reach the bottom by a great amount. Ingo looks down at your rope and whistles.

"Good work Marina."

He bends down and talks to his dog.

"Rico you wait right here okay? Don't need you falling in."

Rico barks in understanding. Ingo grabs on to the rope and begins scaling down the rope. You ask Asher for a match and you light the candle on your Sol Candle. You can feel any present aggression leave the area it's light touches.

"Hey boys. You guys go on up and make some more rope. Ill stay down here with the lantern."

Ingo looks up at you nods. Asher gives you a thumbs up. Since Ingo was below you he has to climb over you to get up. It's very awkward and Ingo apologizes profusely as he gets way too close trying to get over you. He eventually succeed. He and Asher scramble up the rope and make it back to the top.

With the boys out of sight you begin grabbing at the wall to try and grab some beetles as they skitter away from your grasp. You manage to get three. They squirm and fidget in your grasp. You crush one and watch it's innards pop out onto your palm. You pop it into your TRUE mouth and eat it.

You feel... different. You firmly plant your feet on the wall of the chasm and let go of the rope. You stand up straight and stand parallel with the chasm floor as you [WALL WALK] towards the bottom of the chasm. While you are walking on the wall you still feel gravity's pull on you. You eventually make it to the chasm floor as you feel the energy leave you. You can no longer [WALL WALK].

Now that you are at the bottom of the chasm you see that the sparkling object in the ground is infact a piece of amber about the size of your fist lodged into a piece of rock. Trapped in the amber is a mosquito. You figure it would look quite pretty when it is polished and cleaned. You can see the mouth of a cavern further down towards the right. To the left you hear a shuffling of tiny feet. Up above you can hear the boys working on their rope. They are talking while they work.

"So Asher... is she like your girlfriend or-"

"Shut up Ingo. She's... Marina's an aquaintance."

You still have the two living beetles in your hand.

You pick up the Amber and put it in your bag. You sit against the wall and wait for the boys to come back down. You are waiting for about ten minutes when the first rope falls to a heap on the chasm floor. The second longer rope comes dangling down against the wall. A few moments later ,Ingo and Asher reach the bottom. Asher dusts off his khakis and Ingo turns around to get a look at the chasm.

"This place is massive. It must have formed suddenly during a tectonic event. I just wonder what caused the shift."

Asher stares at Ingo.

"It's scary how easily you go from complete goober to confident forest ranger/hunter in the span of a few seconds."

Ingo shrugs his shoulders.

"What can I say. I'm just that amazing."

You interrupt their chatter.

"Hey guys... I hear something coming from over there."

You point in the direction of the sound. You all go silent as you listen to the consistent scampering. Ingo's ears twitch.

"It sounds like a small mammal. Possibly some kind weasel."

Asher holds up his candle, half melted from the fireball and lights it again.

"Let's check it out."

You all walk in a tight formation. Slowly approaching the strange sound. You turn a craggy corner to see... some ferrets. The noodley creatures, upon seeing you, scamper madly into various holes in the walls of the chasm. Asher lowers his candle.

"Well that was dissappointing."

Ingo takes a step forward and squints.

"Wait, raise your candle again."

Confused, Asher raises his candle to reveal strange brickwork on the wall of the cave. On the bricks is an odd and ancient text that you do not recognize. Asher moves his candle to illuminate different portions of the wall and eventually his light hits the bricks and stone of a large archway built into the wall of the chasm.

Asher "Woahs" in amazement.

Ingo steps forward a bit and turns around to face you and Asher.

"Do y'all wanna check it out?"

You shake your head.

"Naw. Let's come back for this later. We need to find the ritual grounds."

Ingo pulls out some paper and a pencil and starts making some pencil rubbings of the odd text.

"You two go ahead. I want to take some rubbings and map out this place. If the woods changed then my mom's gonna wanna know about it so she can have all the local maps updated."

Asher nods.

"Okay. If things get bad just call me and we'll come back down okay?"

Ingo waves Asher away with a free hand.

"Go and do your Constantine schtick Asher. Pitter-patter let's git at 'er."

Asher rubs the bridge of his nose and mutters, "Asshole" under his breath.

"Come on Marina let's go."

As you walk away Ingo calls out to you.

"Don't let him get excited or he's likely to burn the woods down trying to kill a fly!"

Asher whips his head around and shouts back at Ingo.

"That was one time and I put out the fire! Shut up Bjorklund!"

You two don't have a rope scale the other side of the chasm with. Just like the adjacent wall, this side has plenty of footholds to climb up with.

You both realize that if we eat a wasp, we can’t eat Mr. Seek without going over our limit?
>>
>>3783692
No it's if we eat the beetle we go over the limit and start to look inhuman IF the beetle is alive. If we kill it first we only get the temporary ability. Additionally, Mr. Seek doesn't count as inhuman potential because he's a godly potential fragment bundled with human potential fragments. That said, we have a perfectly good rope we can use to climb up, unless you mean the other side. I want to preserve the beetles, though, so if you mean climbing the other side, we can just fly. Ingo is in the ruins so he won't see, and Asher already has seen our "true form" or "what we really are", whatever that means. We'll probably be fine if he sees our wings.

You look up at the wall of the chasm and then over to Asher.

"I'm gonna fly up. Try not to freak out and fireball your 'girlfriend' okay?"

He starts to yell at you.

"It was one ti- wait what did you say?"

You avoid answering by ejecting your [WINGS] and begin to fly up toward the top. You yell down to Asher as you ascend.

"I'll throw a rope down in a bit!"

You can't hear Asher's reply, if he gives any at all, as the wind rushes around you as you soar.

You make it to the chasm's edge and begin to make a rope. Sometime later you tie off the finished rope and tie it off to a tree. You toss the other end down the chasm and a few minutes later Asher climbs up out of the chasm. He pouts when he sees you.

"Not funny Marina."

You shrug and gesture for him to follow as you walk toward the sound of running water.

He stops walking.

"You don't know?"

You turn around to face him and shake your head.

"No. Why? What did you see?"

He looks down at the candle in his hands and back at you. He is quiet for a long while before he answers.

"You look like a monster."

That's all he says on the matter as you enter the clearing in Deer Creek. There are dead deer scattered everywhere. The largest gathering of these carcasses is directly in the middle of the clearing. There are about 20 arranged in a circle. In the center of this circle is a series of sigils. The most notable of which being a large eye dead in the center.

You turn to Asher to ask what to do now.

"Hey Asher wha-"

He's currently gagging and heaving up his lunch behind some trees. Right, you forgot. You aren't sure if it's due to your nature as a reincarnate or your power as an [EATER] but you have a pretty tough natural constitution when it comes to gore. Maybe it's because you know how good raw flesh tastes.

He finishes his violent gagging and walks back over to the carcass circle. He is covering his nose to avoid the smell. You don't know why though. To you it smells absolutely appetizing.

"Okay. So from the looks of things Mr.Seek is sacrificing lesser souls to himself to become stronger. Normally you can't do that but if he is using Alice as the sacrificial master of ceremonies he can avoid involving a third party. If he is partially divine like you said than he has enough dead deer hear to almost be half as strong as the last solar scion. If it took him about 5 days to get strong enough warp that pole. Then in five more days he'll be able to use greater esper abilities, like teleportation and forced telepathy."

He walks around and looks over the circle.

"We have a few options. We could wait here and hope he hasn't already done his daily sacrifice and try and excorcise him out of Alice. However, you'll have to physically hold him down and you and your 'little extra' will also be temporarily separated and vulnerable."

He is walking around the circle of deer and taking notes on the symbols in the circle.

"We could also get more people involved so i can perform a binding rite to keep them bound spiritually to a holy place. But it would have to be on sacred ground. Like the cemetary or the chapel. And I would need 3 more people to help. Assuming that you, Ingo, and I make up the other half of the participants."

He looks very serious and turns grim.

"But either way I need a Sol Jar."

You tilt your head.

"A Sol Jar?"

He nods.

"A vessel to store the removed spirit so it can't jump into a new host. Now while what she has may not be a proper spirit it's best to be prepared for everything. But to make one I need some special ingredients. Any jar with a lid, the wax from a Sol Candle, and the hardest to get, Sol Sand. Sand that has spent years absorbing the sun's glow from the highest possible elevation. It can't be manufactured and it must be found naturally. The only place nearby we can get some is from the peak of the Grandiola mountain. And that is a long trek. A full days hike at least. We'd have to cut school but it's doable. When do you want to go?"

I think that we shouldn't eat these bodies - Seeker would notice that we've been here and will try to speed up his process. Better to leave things as they are, can't do anything with their powers right now anyways.
I want to spend the next day on trying to recruit Tilly in our merry band of exorcists. If there's really a ghost of her brother on the school roof, then maybe we can convince her to help us if we exorcise her brother.
No idea who should be the last person. Maybe Sasha?

They're dead, yeah, but potential is potential. Even if it's only enough for one-time boosts, you have to figure that it'd still do a (relatively minute) amount for powering up Droog from a story perspective, even if it's not gonna give a permanent mechanical boon.
Especially considering how a deer is fairly large and there's a lot of them lying around here.

It's gonna look like an autistic stream of conciousness, probably because that's what it is. Here I go, sorry for bad grammar:
Most important stuff! - it wasn't perfectly clear how we were supposed to ascend to godhood - was it just eating stuff, should we reestablish our religion or something else. Messing with the school life was fun but it kinda took the focus from a that GOD business, at least that's how I see it. A constant reminder of our ultimate goal was necessary - instead players had to figure it out themselves and didn't agree on what it should be.
Setting - you've made a lot of cool and interesting stuff for various religions, but for some reason you've limited yourself with using modern fantasy not!America instead of creating an absolutely different world. There's problems with people easily tracing you, everyone has a weapon (which is a bitch to properly balance), instant communications and law enforcements everywhere - and also trivializing gaining knowledge and learning stuff, no problems with resting places and food, easy to meet people and most importantly almost no conflict.
Morals - personally I love 'moral chain' characters like old friends and family, and Yuri was a really good, supporting and reliable friend. But they kinda get in the way of making players do terrible stuff like killing people and making MC a literal monster. Certain type of players, like me, require a justification for murder. But the world in your setting seemed peaceful, people around us were mostly innocent or sympathetic. The only people I would support killing would probably be lowlifes, criminals and evil cultists. There was little reason for physical confrontation and that really fucks over your mechanic of regaining humanity.
Now that I've read what you wanted us to do in that quest and what decisons we've made I kinda feel guilty for steering towards more peaceful resolutions of conflict.
All of that could be fixed with changing the setting with hostile and harsh environment - social and natural: the city is under siege during a war with enemy soldiers and collaborationists fighting scattered resistance groups, its a wretched hive full of criminals and our family is in debt, outbreak of a deadly plague causes a contagion lockdown and people you care about are under the risk of becoming infected, underdeveloped frontier region full of outlaws where strength means authority. Players would be more willing to do morally questionable things in situations like these, where you can't stay powerless, conflict is inevitable, you have obvious options for choosing our victims and easy way to hide our deeds with little consequence. Players will learn that they can get away with more and more terrible stuff and MC will slowly become a monster.
>>
>>3791431
Inhumanity - that's a really, REALLY cool idea. You've seen anons actively discussing the opportunities that it provided. Although it would be better if you didn't give us the numbers and showed us MC's shifting into inhuman beast more narratively. Maybe increase the limit or tone down the effects of 'inhuman' state - but that's just my preference. I think allowing us to eat human corpses for -1 to inhumanity could also serve as a nudge for players to act monstrous and it fits the setting examples mentioned earlier - you can't stumble on a dead body in a modern setting and in the only place where you could find them it would be very noticable if they go missing. Oh, and another thing - maybe players will need a subtle hint that the first set of aquired traits should help with hunting more prey. Gills were useless waste of a slot.
Combat - it was interesting for me, but didn't seem so for other anons. It might be a bit clunky, the list of actions could be trimmed down and added to your posts, with pastebin containing more detailed descriptions and other details. Can't say more, I'm more used to narrative combat.
Questing - it was a surprise to see a thread #2 for this quest - you've disappeared for almost 3 weeks. And you didn't leave a twitter or some other way to know that a new thread is up, so you've basically lost all the momentum and players your first thread has made. Also I think that you could roll 1d2's for ties yourself, sorry if that's blunt of me.

That is it, hope it doesn't sound too harsh.

No don't worry my guy. Honestly these are some pretty good points. I'm surprised I haven't seen you QM yet. You have a decent eye for setting and mechanics. Yeah the combat system I actually swiped from somewhere else. I said it in qtg but Hungry Quest was, for me, an experiment above all else. Just to see what worked and what didn't. Wannabe Hero has a clear arc planned out(but it's also the posters' story not just mine so fuck it who knows) same with Hitchhikers. But shit if you wanna talk quests we shouldn't do it here.
