Howdy all, and welcome to “A Song of Duty and Spite; House Reynold Quest”. Here we play as Ser Mervyn Reynold, a lowborn son of a bastard hedge knight who, through his skill at arms and a bit of luck, has married into the noble House Reynold of Ember Peak. He currently serves as Lady Elleanor Reynold’s sword shield, and in the murky depths of in-house politics he will attempt to rise high despite coming from such humble origins. These waters are treacherous however. Lady Elleanor has not forgotten her once betrothed, the late Reynard Reyne, and while she attempts to keep control of her house, her husband Lord Titus has the backing of Lord Tywin himself, and has a strong influence over the Reynold Military. The Mad King grows more and more erratic, and there are rumours that the relationship between Lord Tywin and King Aerys grow strained. Will you remain Lady Elleanors right hand, or will you strike out on your own in your pursuit of position and power? Let’s get going /qst/.

Dramatis Personae:
>Ser Mervyn Reynold, 25, Our MC.
Ser Mervyn grew up the son of a bastard hedge knight who did not know his father and a blacksmiths daughter. After his mother passed at the age of 5, his father began travelling the westerlands to sell his sword to anyone who would hire him. Eventually, the man passed away to a pox when Mervyn was 17, but not before knighting his son. He than took his fathers horse and mule and travelled in the same way. Eventually, he heard of a tourney for a young maiden’s hand, he attended and won handily over many much nobler knights. He now serves the Lady of the House, Elleanor Reynold as her sworn shield.

>Alyssa Reynold, 17, Mervyn’s Wife
Alyssa is a pretty young girl who is currently 6 and a half months pregnant. She is driven and tenacious, if not impatient, and she has been reared to be a player in the game by her mother. While not considered beautiful as her elder sister might be, her red curls and sea green eyes certainly make her comely. She is gifted at weaving through the art of noble intrigue and has a knack for remembering heraldry and house history.

>Lord Titus Reynold, 46
Lord Titus was born Titus Lantell of Lannisport, and grew up to be a knight who swore his sword to the Lannisters. During the Reyne/Tarbeck Rebellion, he was commanded by Tywin Lannister to march with 300 men to confine the Lady Elleanor, then a maiden of 16 years, and prevent House Reynold from aiding the Reynes and Tarbecks in rebellion as a favour to her father, the late Lord Marqus. A relatively oafish man who cares not for the workings of his house, he is not without a degree of cunning and ultimately seeks to usurp his wife as the true head of the house.

>Lady Elleanor Reynold, 36
Lady Elleanor is a woman who remembers. Once betrothed to Ser Reynard Reyne, she endured losing both her father and betrothed in the span of a year at the age of 16, and was subsequently married off to a lowly knight of Lannisport. She endured the dishonour, even providing 6 children to her husband, all in the memory of her father and Reynard. She is the true power in Ember Peak, and seeks to retain control of her house by any means necessary.

You found yourself sitting at a small table in what served as Maester Aethan’s tower. In reality, it wasn’t so much of a tower as it was a carved stone stair case that lead upwards for nearly three stories, with carved alcoves set for the placement of small candles into the roughly hewn rock, before coming to a series of rooms that served as the rookery, library, hospital and classroom, as well as the maesters personal quarters. You’d always been comfortable here as the windows carved into the rock of the rookery allowed for natural light to flood into the room. So while ascending the staircase was often enough to make your stomach shrivel and your breath grow short, you were rewarded with a gorgeous view of the surrounding mountains as the rolled and spring overtook them. But you hear your wife cough as she gets your attention back to the lesson at hand with an arched eyebrow and pursed lips. She had taken to teaching you personally, about histories, language, and every other topic under the sun after she had decided it wouldn’t not be fitting for her husband and a man grown to be taught alongside the children, pages and squires of Ember Peak.

“So again husband, what is the full name and title of our king?”

“King Aerys the Thi…Second of his name. King of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men. Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm.” You had caught your mistake before you had finished which earned you a small smile from your wife before she continued on.

“And tell me Merv, who is the crown prince?”

This time you have to take a minute longer before you answer as you probe into your mind and previous lessons.

“The crown prince is named…uuuuuh…Prince Vhaegar?”

As soon as the words came out of your mouth your saw Allysa’s expression change and you knew the answer was wrong. The look she gave you was one of mild annoyance and slight surprise.

“Mervyn how can you not know the name of the royal family? I will admit the extended line of the Targaryens can be confusing, but the crown prince? His name is Prince Rhaegar, not Vhaegar. The tournament at Harrenhal is fast approaching husband, and you cannot be attending such an important and prestigious event if don’t know the princes name. The royal family is going to be in attendance Mervyn.”

You stifle a yawn and crack a smile at her which she responds to by smacking your hand with the small rod Maester Aethan used during his classes and you pretend to pull back in annoyance and pain before giving her your attention again.

“Perhaps you can tell me what the words of House Targaryen are?”

“Blood and Fire.”

You say the words with a stone faced seriousness, and she swats at your hand again bringing only a laugh to your lips but you notice that she wasn’t quick to join you in your mirth. The last few months had been hard on her, and the lack of sleep from tending to Marqus along with the added stress of you having been held prisoner, not to mention the tension between her parents had taken it’s toll on your young wife. Even with Cerenna tending to her, her hair seemed out of place and unkempt. Dark circles were present under her eyes and she just looked tired as she stared at you.

“Merv…when are we going to leave this place? You have been so busy training your men, and…and I’ve been taking care of Marqus. I hardly feel like we get to see each other at all. I know mother wishes for you to attend her when she goes to Silverhill for Elyse’s wedding, but I was thinking…perhaps you and I could go to Goldengrove instead? Just to get away from it all for a while?

--- Mervyn’s Persuasion Test ---
Rolled: 12 vs DC: 12
Result: One degree of Success

You give your wife a half smile and reach out to grab her hand, giving it an affectionate squeeze. Perhaps a trip to the reach would do her good, as well as yourself. You had done little else but train and manage the stocking of the armoury since you had earned your promotion nearly three weeks ago. Weapons were starting to come up the gold road and you were carefully tallying up and counting every spear, sword and coat of mail that came through Ember Peaks gates. Meanwhile the tending of an infant was time consuming work, even with the help of a hand maiden and a wet nurse.

“Soon Ally, soon. I need to talk to your mother before I can promise anything more, but whether it is before the tournament or after, I promise you that you’ll see Goldengrove soon.”

She looks at you with a sad, almost desperate eye and squeezes your hand in return as you continue.

“Me, you and Marqus. Cerenna will come along as well, as will the wetnurse. I’ll bring a man or two and we will make a time of it Ally I promise. Spring is just about here in force, and soon enough you’ll be up to your arms in dirt in the gardens of the Reach.”

The two of you sat across from one another, and let a peaceful silence fall over the chambers as you held one anothers hand, before a servant opened the door and interrupted the moment.

“Ah, beg yer pardons Ser. I been sent to find you Ser. I was told to tell you that your new captains arrived, and is currently in the courtyard awaiting you.”

You look from the servant to Allysa who only rolls her eyes and tells you to go do your duty, and you leave her with a chaste kiss on the cheek and sneak ahead of the servants as you rush down the dark stairs to come out again into the better lit hall three flights of stairs down.

You walk out of the wide oaken doors to the courtyard that was carved directly into the mountain itself and you are soon greeted by a man you had not seen in years and the two of you embrace with a clasp of wrists and the clapping of backs.
>>
“Sandor Hill as I live and breathe.”

“Ser Mervyn…Reynold is it now? I guess we can’t call us the Two Hills anymore hey?”

You laugh as the two of you reminisce about your time serving the Leffords of the Golden Tooth, and soon get to business of his responsibilities and duties, as he oversees the couple of trappers and mountain men that were training in the courtyard.

“Aye well, the mountains ‘round here aren’t as rough as the Silver Fang but I’ll make men of them yet. I ain’t going to be training ‘em in here though.” He says this as he looks up across the rocky walls of the courtyard before continuing on.

“I’ll take the lads out into the mountains. Hunt, fish, fight. Do what men do in the hills.”

“I expect there’ll be plenty of fighting. Respect for the law isn’t particularly strong around these parts Sandor. Not to mention there are likely going to be bandits and trouble makers to our south. Loyalists to a different house whose land House Reynold just inherited.”

The small rangy man that stood across from you scratched at his patchy short beard and gave you a wry smile.

“Aye Merv, should be just like old times hey? Hunting poachers in the mountains. HA.” His laugh sounds like the bark of a dog and you summon a servant to show him to his quarters which he shakes off.

“No need Merv. I’ll make myself a cabin somewhere up in the hills. No scout should live behind a castle walls.”

And with that he was off, gathering up the few scouts he could find and rounding them up, yelling and berating them before escorting them out of the castle gate. It was then that you looked over the courtyard yourself and you found Tygon standing on the ramparts of the wall, watching over the men who were training. You climbed the stairs and found a desk had been set up, along with a small pile of books and a map that littered the table and he hails you.

“Ser Mervyn. It is good to see you. The men are looking to be in good shape Ser Master at Arms. And with their new equipment morale seems to be higher than one would expect so soon after our defeat.”
>>
The blond heir to Ember Peak doesn’t look you in the eye as he says this, instead looking back to the table and as the two of you walk over, you see the entire stack of books are concerned with the art of war, and command, and the map is one of the Auric Hills to your south.

“Ser Mervyn, I’ll be blunt with you. I have informed my mother that I shall not be attending Elyse’s wedding, so as to help rout out the trouble makers and ne’er-do-wells that likely reside there. I…I am not so foolish as to be unaware of how crucial you and your cavalry were to mitigating the damage done when my plan collapsed and I…uh…I was wondering if I could ask you to accompany me and help put down these rebels together. With a fighter as fierce as you by my side, I imagine that I’ll be able to crush any resistance there and Ser, I know if you hadn’t been there that day I very may well be dead, along with Tyrus and my father, and I would be lying if I said I would be nervous to enter battle again without you by my side. So what do you say Ser? I’ll speak to my mother on your behalf if you’d like. I know she wished to have you accompany her to Silverhill, but I think your talents will be wasted on a tourney when there is real conflict to be had…

Young having lost his confidence Tygon is such a stark difference to the confident man in Steadhold he'll be in a few years.
>>
You put out your hand to the young lordling and he clasps it firmly and thanks you as he stands.

“I plan on leaving on within the week Ser. I will speak to my mother, and we will likely escort her and Elyse to Headwaters before we head south. I plan on setting up headquarters in a small village near the eastern border and from there we can ascertain whether or not there is a problem with their loyalties.”

You agree to accompany him and thank him speaking to Elleanor on your behalf, before descending down the stairs, but not before offering him some honest words.

“For what it’s worth Tygon, your plan was sound. But a plan is only as good as the men who have to follow it, and our men were…are…not all the best trained solders I’ve seen in my life. Allysa says your in the library everyday studying, and that Andrea often goes to bed alone, and finds her bed empty in the morning as well. I’ll gladly follow you into battle Tygon, and am honoured to do so again.”

He looks up at you with a weak smile and a nod of the head, before looking again to the map and taking up a quill, marking the parchment map with black ink in a few key locations for whatever plan he was hatching in his head and you take your leave to berate and train your men into the ground until the sun hung low in the sky and the clamour of steel on steel faded into quiet.

--- 13/08/281 ---

The makeshift docks that served as the mooring for vessels pulling into Headwaters was bustling with people and you had seen that Lady Elleanor and Elyse had boarded the boat she had hired to take them, along with Ser Devan Drake and a small accompaniment of men to serve as her champions during her wedding celebrations, as well as to guard them on their short journey down the Lesser Mander. Ser Devan had been Elleanors second choice to accompany them, but he was intensely loyal to her. Elleanor had given you a look that spoke of irritation, but she had given you her blessing to assist Tygon in pacifying her newly acquired territory. Crime was a constant present in most of Westeros, and the lands surrounding Ember Peak were no different, but in the wake of the conflict it seemed that there was a surge of crimes and banditry the further south you went into Reynold lands.

Tygon had bid good bye to his mother, and embraced his youngest sister warmly in a tight hug and promised that he would visit her soon, and you soon watched the barge set off down the meandering river at a slow but steady pace, and you soon made to leave yourself, riding alongside Tygon at the head of a considerable force of men…

The Eagles Eyes - 5
The Reynold 1st - 1
The Blackfeathers - 1
The Loyal Reins - 3

Well, looks like Sandor is going to get to prove his worth, and seven save the poor fools who don't flee before the Loyal Reins.
>>
Tygon and yourself rode at the head of the Loyal Reins, armed to the teeth as they were with new lances and mounted on their Webber steeds. The cavalry company was beginning to look more and more professional as your tenure as their captain continued, meanwhile the scouts walked behind the cavalry, holding the bows they had been given upon their signing of their contracts as scouts in the Reynold army. Many of them had been poor trappers or huntsman and had never seen a bow so well made, and were taking the utmost care to protect their new weapons. Sandor Hill rode upon a garron alongside yourself as Tygon began to explain his plan.

“Sandor, Ser Mervyn tells me you’re an experienced mountain man, that you grew up on the Silver Fang? That’s a rough and dangerous mountain I hear and I aim to put your skills to good use. When we reach this village I would like you to explore these hills. The maps I have consulted point to two ideal hideouts for bandits. There is a network of caves nearest the eastern borders, as well as an abandoned town near a mine that went dry nearly 30 years ago three days to the south of the caves. I would like for you to take your men Sandor and determine whether or not there are any men holing up there. Ser Mervyn and I will speak to the people of the village and the surrounding countryside and see what we can find out from them.

Sandor Hill simply nods his head in agreement, and his answer was a simple “Yes m’lord” and by nightfall he and his scouts had disappeared into the hills. As the Loyal Reins made camp, you found yourself missing Tyrus’ presence as you stripped out of your armour and set up your own tent. Your squire had taken to Silverhill with his mother to compete in the squires melee being held there, and in truth, he had been distant from you as of late. He had preferred the company of his siblings, and other members of your cavalry. You found it likely the boy had grown sullen after you’d shown him the truth of what war truly was, and he was likely in denial of it, therefore avoiding you as you were a constant reminder of the crimes of war he had been apart of. But you manage to get your tent set up nonetheless, and play a game of dice with Ser Cardyn and Ser Austin before eventually retreating to your bed roll and closing your eyes to the sound of the low laughter of your men.
>>
--- 15/08/281 ---

You had ridden into the small square that made up the cross roads of the village in the mid morning of the second day of riding, which consisted of perhaps 200 people and maybe 40 huts, a small wooden sept and a smithy. Tygon had introduced himself to the village elder, and after his golden smile had done it’s work and he explained that he was simply touring the territory, they had soon made their way to the elders home to discuss the villages issues in private, and had left you to set up your camps on the outskirts of the village and as your men set to the tasks, you find yourself reminded of a time when you had travelled with your father from village to village just like this and you decided to get the lay of the land. Tygon may be talking to the village elder, but sometimes it was the smallest of small folk that would know if there was crime going on in the area as they would be the most likely to be affected. As a result, you decided to head to…

You decided to head to the smithy. The blacksmith was always a popular man in a village, and he’d likely know much of the rumours going around this part of the countryside. As you walk along the dirt road, you can see a few of the village children run from you shrieking half in terror, and you realize that wearing your full suit of intimidating black armour is not going to win you many friends here, so you stop by your horse to remove your helm and place it in one of your saddle bags. You had little worry about anyone being bold enough to steal it, and even if someone were foolish enough to try, your ornery old mule which your father had named “Mountain” would send them off with a bray and a bite on the arse.

As you make your way down what served as their main street, you could smell the scent of fire and iron, of coke and coal and you could hear the clanging of metal on metal as you rounded a corner and pushed open a gate which caused a small bronze bell to jingle pleasantly and you see a surprisingly small man look up from his anvil. He didn’t look like a smith, having a small chest and skinny arms, but he tossed his hammer with relative ease and looks at home amidst the sweltering forge as he wipes his brow and hails you.

“Seven blessings ‘pon you m’lord. How c’n I help you this fine day?”

You smile and look to him with a small chuckle and slipped back into your old ways of speaking. They occasionally slipped out during regular conversation but Allysa did her best to get you to speak proper common. Here however, it would likely do you good to help fit in to speak as the small folk did.

“Ain’t no lords here, smith. I’m only a knight, so Ser’ll do me fine. I rode here today with Lord Tygon Reynold, the heir to Ember Peak. He’s here to speak to his smallfolk, to hear about their problems or anything they might need from their lord. And I figured I’d peruse your wares while I was here.”

You turn away from the smith to browse some of his wares, picking up an axe head and inspecting it’s edge before turning your attention to a bucket of nails and a few horse shoes he has laying on his table. His work seemed up to par for a village smith, but it wasn’t exceptional.

“Tell me smith…has there been any cause for trouble in the hills recently? I know that this was Serrett land not 2 months ago, and more than a few men lost their lives during the Battle of the Auric Hills. Rumours have reached Ember Peak that there is some discontent out this way. Smugglers for sure, seeking to evade the new tolls. Possibly bandits, Serrett men to the bone most likely?”

--- Ser Mervyn’s Persuasion (Charm) Test ---
Rolled: 12 vs DC: 9, 12, 15
Result: 1 Degree of Success, One Degree of Success, Failed

The smith shakes his head and pulls out a small cloth from his belt and wipes his brow properly and then cleans his hands as best as he was able to, before calling out for water and a small boy runs out from a separate room bringing a jug and a small clay cup and the smith pours himself a glass and takes a long pull before looking over to you.

“Ain’t my place to go stirring up trouble Ser, and I really ain’t tryin’ to get me and mine caught up in whatever mess is goin’ on here.”

“So there is a “mess” out this way?”

The smiths silence tells you that you were on to something and you extend out a hand and introduce yourself to the man properly, and he clasps your own hand and you find his grip is like iron.

“My name is Ser Mervyn Reynold. I’m the master at arms of Reynold Peak, as well as the captain of their cavalry. And I can tell you this smith, that Tygon is not a petty lord. He’s a man who wants the best for his people, and he wants to see peace and plenty return to his lands. This much I can promise you, that loyalty to him will be rewarded.”
>>
--- Ser Mervyn’s Awareness Test ---
Rolled: 17 vs DC: 12, 15, 18
Result: Two degree of success, One degree of Success, Failed

You see the smith look to his feet for an awkward moment, and he wrings his hands behind his back. The man is clearly uncomfortable and is clearly nervous about something and he eventually looks up to stare into your eyes.

“Names Smit meself, and like I said Ser. I don’t want no trouble for me ‘n’ mine. I gots 3 boys and a girl t’look after and my wifes got another one on the way. I couldn’t give a rats hairy arse who m’lord is, only that I got iron to work, bread to eat and a bed to sleep in. I dunno much Ser, but I do know that there been some men travelling the roads by night, and there been more’n a few men who lost fathers, brothers and sons in that there battle. Most of ‘em are farmers out in the fields, and s’far as I know they ain’t run off but you could say that some people ain’t happy.”

You thank the man for his time and information and turn to leave the shop, and as you do so, you notice an unusual number of bags under one of the tables that line the wall and you cross the room and kneel to open one and reveal that all of the bags are full of nails. A curious thing, and you stand holding one of the nails and give the man a curious eye. Smit’s eyes go wide and he wipes down his hands again on his apron and smiles sheepishly.

“Ah. Right m’lord uh…I been teachin’ me eldest the basics ‘o’ the anvil and hammer. I ‘ad ‘im forgin’ nails from dawn till dusk for nearly a fortnight. An’ everyone needs nails there Ser.”

Your eyes narrow at the man, but you leave him be for now and bid him a good day as you finally take your leave of his shop and find yourself with a large part of the afternoon left, enough to do some more investigating on your own, or perhaps you should meet up with Tygon and see what this elder had to say…

Instead you find yourself walking amongst the homes of the small folk. Daub and wattle homes with thatch rooves, all connected by dirt paths and ruts cut into the grass from a thousand steps that beat down the ever growing grass now that winter was receding. For the most part you are alone, although you occasionally see a woman tending to some chores or a few children running amongst the houses playing as only children can. You smile as you hear them shriek and laugh running up and down the lanes chasing one another playing tag. Eventually you come to a seven sided building made of what looked like fresh lumber, although in place of a door you find only a flap made of a thin woolen blankets and you duck inside the sept as curiosity piques your interest.

Upon entering, you are greeted by a dirt floor and an empty seven sided room. There were no pews, no altar. Only crude carvings of each of the gods into their respective walls along with small alcoves set into the wood for the burning of small candles, although you saw few candles lit as you found only two people in the sept at this time, a woman who was silently weeping praying before the Mother, and an elderly man who knelt before the crude bearded carving of the Father. You yourself turn to your right and see a small table with a cup that has a few coppers in it, next to a pile of small candles and reach into your purse and throw a piece of silver into the cup and take two candles and first make your way over to the unattended carving of the warrior after lighting your first candle with one lit on the table, and kneel in the dirt after setting your candle in the alcove to say a quick prayer to the warrior to guide your arm and shield. You didn’t know any actual prayers anymore, you’d forgotten them by the time you were twelve years old, but the way you figured it was the Warrior didn’t have a need for proper scripture or hymns, only a warriors voice and as you began to give up your silent prayers you looked up to the effigy. The carving was rough hewn, in a roughly humanoid shape who was armed with what looked like either a sword or maybe a spear, and a round design on his other side must have been a shield. Once you had finished the prayers for yourself, you also asked him to help guide Tygons as well. He was a good man you often thought to yourself, guilty only of having an incompetent father and an overprotective mother and though he may not be a great fighter, he could perhaps one day be a skilled general if he could overcome his lack of confidence.
>>
You hear one of your other two attendees rise and make for the door, and as you turn you see only the woman praying before the mother and you make your way over to the mothers icon, a carving that depicted a kneeling shape holding a small bundle which you assumed was an infant child. You took your second candle and set it alight with the candle that the praying woman had already set there and the warm glow from the alcove spreads just a little bit further and shines just a little bit brighter as you join the woman kneeling before the Mother and her mercy. You prayed for your son, fierce little ball of fire that he was even at only a month old. The lungs on that boy were ridiculous and he was not afraid to shriek whenever he needed feeding. Your mind runs to your wife and you pray for her as well, for the mother to give her peace of mind and to help soothe her nerves as she struggled to cope with the stresses of motherhood. You make to stand, again having little knowledge of proper hymns and the woman rises to her feet as well and looks to you, and you can see her eyes are red from crying even in the low lighting of the sept.

“Not many men are seen praying to the mother Ser. Especially a warrior such as yerself. Might I ask who you be praying for?”

The woman looked to be middle aged and had the matronly form of a woman who had given birth more than a few times. You regard her for a neutral look before telling her that you prayed for your infant son and wife, and you see a single tear fall down her cheek which soon turns to open weeping as she throws herself at you in a desperate hug. You try to calm her down, telling her perhaps a septon might be the better sort of man to hear her prayers but she manages to blubber out that the travelling septon likely wouldn’t be back for another 4 months. She wails on about how she lost her eldest boy in the battle, and now her three youngest had disappeared in turn over the last few weeks, with the youngest one a boy of 13 who disappeared only last night. With spring well on it’s way there would be no help to start the crop and she obviously worried for the boys well being and safety as well…

--- Ser Mervyn’s Persuasion (Charm) Test ---
Rolled 13 vs DC: 9, 12, 15
Result: One degree of Success, One Degree of Success, Failed

You awkwardly pat the woman on the back and she nearly falls to hear knees her grief is so overwhelming and you offer her what awkward comfort you can until she begins to calm down, although it takes some time filled with hysterical weeping in the meantime on the dirt floor of the sept, but eventually the well from which her tears came runs dry and she regathers her composure enough to speak with you properly.

“I-I’m sorry S-Ser. I’m only j-just a mother worried f-for her sons.”

“It’s alright now. I’m here to end these troubles that you have been having. I’ve come with the heir of your new lord to put to rest these troubles to an end. Perhaps you can tell me something about your boys? Where you think they might have gone or who might have convinced them to leave you? I promise we aren’t here to bring you and yours any harm.”

She looks up at you with wide eyes and you can see tears well freshly in them again but she manage to blink them back and find her feet once more, standing at her full height of perhaps 5 feet tall.

“W-well Ser. Me oldest boy, Tom, died in the battle. He was the smiths apprentice but went off to war when Ser Samwell called his banners against my wishes. It wasn’t soon after that the next oldest boy Jon went missing. I have a feelin’ that ‘is no good father snatched him up. Like as not got ‘im involved in that smuggling ring of ‘is.

She shakes her head as she explains that she had married the man who had claimed to be a trader, but nearly 10 years ago she had discovered the truth and kicked him out of her home, and soon after that the village.

“I dunno anything ‘bout where or what he smuggles, but I know he used to say he’d been plying his trade up ‘n’ down the river for years. And as for me youngest boys, Jack and Pete…”

She breaks down and falls into weeping again as she stammers out that she feared that they had taken up with some other men who had taken exception to Ser Samwells “murder” as they called it. Said they were going to take action to avenge their lords killer, and uphold his honour. Jack disappeared the night we heard that Ser Samwell had been found guilty of killing his own daughter and using the tragedy as an excuse to make war.

“Begging yer pardon m’lord but he said it was “a pig shit story that dint hold no water”. He said that Ser Samwell loved that girl more’n life itself and that whoever set him up had to pay. I’m worried for them Ser. My boys are just fools, but they’re good boys. They don’t mean no trouble. Perhaps if they just met you and your lord, and could see you aren’t what the rumours says you are they’d come home…”
>>
“Ain’t for me to say m’lady what happens to your boys, but Tygon is a good and honest man. I’m sure that if we find your boys caught up in trouble, Tygon will give them a fair trial to explain themselves.”

The woman falls to her knees and grasps at your tabard, thanking you profusely and invoking the seven to bless you, to which you kindly thank her and gently pry her hands off of you and make your way out of the sept. The sun was beginning to dip in the sky and you squinted your eye as you looked into the western mountains that it sought to hide behind, the golden light glinting off of your black plate and giving the rubies on your breastplate an orange glow as you turned and went to camp as you awaited Tygon to discuss what the village elder had to say to him.

It wasn’t another hour before Tygon had summoned you, sending his squire, a boy from house Lydden to call on you to attend him in his pavilion. You followed the young boy and entered into the luxurious tent and see Tygon sitting at a table, pouring over his map and consulting with another piece of parchment that he had, and soon looks up to you and welcome you to sit which you accept and give the young Lordling a peculiar stare so intent he was on his maps.

“Uhm..my lord? You summoned me?”

“Ah yes. Yes I did. Tell me Ser, how did you fare exploring the village today?”

You go into some detail regarding your day, detailing the smith and his suspicious behaviour, along with the peculiar number of nails the smith was in possession of, before explaining your meeting with the woman at the sept and the likelihood that there was both a smuggling ring as well as a potential force of bandits in the area. Tygon strokes his fledgling moustache as he frowns and goes on to tell you of his visit with the elder.

“The elder spoke to me of discontent. The smuggling ring worries me Mervyn. That may be a large part of the root of why many of the young men form this village have disappeared. That and Ser Samwell’s death of course. The way he tells it, nearly 1 in 3 boys aged 13 – 18 have disappeared off into the hills. He couldn’t say whether they had left the territory completely however, or if they had done as he feared and were camping out in the hills in the hope of creating mischief. If that is the case Ser, I propose we wait until Sandor Hill arrives to make his report and we can plan from there. To be completely honest Ser, if these boys have gone off into the hills to create a bandit gang, I am rather torn about what we are to do with them. Have you any thoughts on the matter?”

Alright looks like we're going to council Tygon to be patient and wait to decide what kind of trouble these boys have gotten themselves into.

I'm going to chalk this up to Mervyn remembering the fact that he himself has had his own experiences as a bandit and general nuisance to society and that sometimes boys do what they have to. Writing

“In all honesty Tygon, I think we need to have these boys in front of us before you decide their fate. If all they’ve done is hole up in the hills and pout and stew about their lot in life then perhaps they might be let go, or even put them to work in the mines for a few months of hard labour. If they’ve taken up arms against their lord well, we both know the punishment for that. But as for any who get caught up in the smuggling? Well I guess it depends again on what their smuggling. The woman didn’t actually say what her husband smuggled, or how exactly they’ve managed to do it.”

Tygon scowls, clearly unhappy at the idea of having to punish his new smallfolk so early into House Reynolds rule over them.

“I fear you are right Ser. Well, I suppose all we can do is wait until Sandor returns to us with more information…”

The two of you proceeded to dine together as Tygon’s squire and a few other camp followers and villagers brought in some plates of bread, butter and what looked like the best parts of a goat…

--- 16/08/281 ---

Sandor Hill and the Eagles Eyes had returned to camp at the crack of dawn and you and Tygon were woken up promptly to take in the mans report. You walked over to Tygon’s pavilion after having quickly dressed yourself, your feet crunching through the morning frost as it dusted over the grass and mud of the camp, and soon entered through the flap of the tent and sat next to Tygon as Sandor made his report.

“Well m’lord, you were right in so far as them caves being a good spot to check out. They ain’t three days from the village though. No more’n a days walk, let alone a hard march. The caves at the back of a narrow gorge with only one way in. Didn’ actually manage to get inside the cave itself mind, but I can tell ya that there be near enough to 200 men and boys camped up in front ‘o’ that damn cave. I got close enough to count ‘em meself and it was a good thing it was just me.”

The scout reaches into his pocket and pulls out what looks like two nails folded and bent around one another and tosses it to you, and you in turn pass it to Tygon. It was a caltrop.

“I dunno how bad you ruined them boys day in that battle ‘o’ yours there Merv, but it seems that they remember you and your cav well enough to want to make sure that your horses are outta the fight and to be honest I don’t blame em. There are a few men there who got the look of soldiers, but a lot of em look greener than gooseshit. Matter ‘o’ fact, there be a lotta boys campin’ out in that canyon. I’d bet you a dragon that they’re just tryin’ to boost up their numbers before they try somethin’.”

You look to Tygon with a grave look in your eye as you remember the amount of nails in the blacksmiths shop. The caltrop looked very similar to the nails that were there, and Sandor continues his report as Tygon shares your grimace.

“As for that ghost town m’lord, it’s as you say to my mens eyes. Abandoned. Not a soul livin’ in it s’far as they could tell. Just a buncha abandoned buildings that’r fallin’ down.

Where would their supplies come in? look like they are ready for a siege? any signs of anything in that ghost town?
>>
“Any idea if they have any other ways to get supplies in? Does it look like they got enough supplies to last for a while if we try and starve them out?”

Sandor barks his laughter out at you and shakes his head.

“Them hills are honeycombed with caves, I imagine that there has to be one or two that link up with theirs. I reckon it’d take me more than a few days to map ‘em out though and that there is dangerous work, but I did see some boys bring up a few bags ‘o’ grain right up through the gorge so maybe there ain’t another way in. And it ain’t a castle there Merv, it’s just a gorge. Sure they got caltrops all scattered ‘round the entrance but other’n that, they’d be mince meat for us. If we block ‘em in there, I imagine they’d just flee into the caves. That or they’d just come out and give us a fight, it’s hard to say.”

How about that town? Did your men notice anything unusual there at all?”

Sandor simply shrugs and turns up his palms.

“Not so far as they told me. The boys are good men, but I mean I guess they might’ve missed somethin’. Can’t say much without more time Ser.”

Silence falls over the tent as yourself and Tygon ponder on what to do next….

As long as we've got Sandor or his men keeping an eye on the men then I don't think we lose anything by being cautious and taking the time to gather more info. If they decide to try anything in the meantime then great, we can ambush them in the open rather than having to charge a potentially caltroped field.
And I'd dearly like to confront that smith about said caltrops.

My preference is a non-violent solution that won't leave the villagers of our new domain hating our lord but if it does come to force I wonder whether we can bait them out?
Set a couple of bonfires around the village outskirts then have the smith or some other suitably intimidated villager send a runner to the cave saying Mad Mervyn and the bastards of Ember Peak are burning down the village and raping all the women, especially Jack's mum.
Hell, if we successfully bait them out then we could probably surround them in an ambush and easily intimidate them into dropping their weapons.

“If it were up to me, I’d say we wait it out a few more days Tygon. Let him and the scouts go back out and do some more scouting. See if they can find another way into their camp aside from those caltrops.”

“I was of a similar mind Ser. I have no desire to be outmaneuvered again on the field of battle. Sandor, take your men back into the hills. Take up to a week to determine if there is passage through the caves and report back here at weeks end. From there we will decide what we are to do.”

Sandor nods his head and leaves the tent immediately, promising to return as soon as he found all there was to find leaving you and Tygon in the tent alone, and you reach over and finger the caltrop suspiciously.

“The smith knows something Tygon. He had bags of nails that look awful similar to this here. Bend those nails round and place a drop of molten iron where they touch? And I don’t doubt that more than a few of these men remember the Reins riding them down before the Serrett numbers gained the upper hand.”

Tygon looks at you and cocks his eye brow before placing both of his hands on the table and standing abruptly.

“Well Mervyn, I suppose we should pay a visit to the smith and see what he knows. Are you busy at the moment?”

The two of you make for the smithy and you explain all about your previous visit and as you are about to round the corner Tygon stops you by placing his arm in front of your chest.

“Now Mervyn, I have an idea here. I want to know if this man is a supporter of our band of troublemakers or if they’re intimidating him into aiding them against his will. So follow my lead. If I give you a wink, I need you to do what you do best and be yourself.”
>>
After agreeing to follow along, Tygon flashes you a golden smile which matches the golden hazel of his eyes and he raps a quick three knocks on the frame of the door before entering the premise of the smithy proper and you follow suit into the building. You find the smith hammering out a head for a new axe and when he his young son pulls on his sleeve he looks up for his hammering and blinks back his shock and places the steel back into the forge and bows his head before greeting the two of you.

“Seven blessings Smith. My name is Tygon Reynold, heir to Ember Peak. What might your name be?”

“I-uh…names Smit m’lord. Pleased to meet you.”

“My man Ser Mervyn tells me that there has been trouble in this village recently, or more accurately, in most of the villages in these hills. Men disappearing off into the hills and what not.”

“Well like I told Ser t’other day. I keeps my nose out of it. I got my family to feed and keep safe. Ain’t no business ‘o’ mine what other men do.”

“You’re a practical man Smit, I like that. How many children do you have if I may ask.”

Tygon flashes the man his warmest smile and the light of the forge glints slightly off of his golden teeth as Smit wrings his hands on his apron before patting his son on the head and sending him off out of the shop.

“Got two boys and two girls m’lord. Eldest is me ‘prentice. 10 years old he is. Other sons 8, and the girls are 5 and 3.”

Tygon continues to grin as he turns his attention to the rest of the shop as he responds.

“A healthy brood. My own wife is pregnant with our first child and I already feel more protective over her. A trait every father should share yes? A desire to protect his family?”

Smit watches Tygon’s every move as he examines his wares, from saw blades to axes to cutlery. fingering the edge of a knife gently.

“Aye I’d say so m’lord.”
>>
“Then you must understand my concern when I hear rumours of banditry, smuggling and disappearances in my fathers lands. What sort of father would I be if I let said crimes run rampant across my land and let my child come into such an unsafe domain?”

Smit begins to respond but Tygon interrupts him by pulling forth the caltrop from a pouch on his belt and the smith gawps awkwardly before suddenly rushing for the door but strong as he might be he was no match for you. You place yourself in his way and tackle the man to the ground, before hauling him up to his feet by the scruff of his shirt and throwing him into a chair while Tygon walks over as calm as can be, still smiling and bringing the caltrop to Smit’s face and waving you off from the man.

“Ser Mervyn here informed me you might have an idea of where said men got these?”

All the poor smith does is close his eyes and shake his head before begging for mercy.

“I-I’m sorry m’lord. They made me. Threatened my family. My boys. My wife. Said they’d rape her in front ‘o’ me and cut their throats.”

“My good man, that is why I’m here. I’m here to put an end to these threats and worries as is my duty. All you need to do is tell me who these men are, where they’re hiding and what they want. Sound fair?”

“I can’t m’lord, I can’t. They’ll kill them. I-I’m sorry m’lord…”

Tygon rises from the mans eyeline and looks to you and gives you a small smirk and a wink as the man has his face buried in his hands…

--- Ser Mervyn’s Persuasion (Intimidate) Test ---
Rolled 14 vs DC: 15
Result: Test Failed

You fall to one knee to get on the mans level but he keeps his face buried in his hands as he mutters about how he can’t tell you anything. You lash out and rip his head back by his hair and stare the man down as he fights to avoid your gaze but as sure as the sun rises in the east eventually you manage to stare him down and he looks into your sky blue eyes…and yet…the emptiness that normally struck fear into those who looked into them was mirrored by his own. He wasn’t truly in the right mind and whoever had threatened him had done the job thoroughly.

“Look at me Smit. I don’t care who threatened you. I am more dangerous than any man you know and you will tell us everything you know. Do you understand me?”

“You might be dangerous Ser, but you don’t know Ser Gerard. He’ll kill my family Ser. All of them. He’s not a true knight like you Ser. I can’t. I can’t. I can’t.”

The man devolves into senseless babbling and you look up to Tygon who pinches the bridge of his nose in irritation and shakes his head, before gesturing to leave him be and the two of you leave the man to his fears.

“Dammit. I was going to offer to take on one of his sons as a page, but after that. Whoever this Ser Gerard is must be a terrifying man. Ser Mervyn I want two of your men posted outside of this smithy at all times until this business is finished. Neither Smit nor his family are to leave the building until this matter is finished. Understood?”

You nod your head and together the two of you make off back your camp, Tygon muttering the name Gerard over and over again under his breath.

--- 22/08/281 ---

The week had flown by as Tygon had the Loyal Reins and yourself handing out food, clothing and other supplies from the wagons he had brought with him in an attempt to build up goodwill with the villagers although the effort had been for nought in regards to having them open up about their missing boys. Sandor had returned on the 6th day and had once again been summoned to Tygon’s pavilion as he made his second report.

“Sandor, I trust you had spent your time was well spent. What more can you tell us about our predicament?”

“Well m’lord…” the man began….

The man grins from ear to ear and puffs out his chest as confident as a rooster.

“Well m’lord. I found out there is a cave that connects. “ad me lads camp out ‘round a few ‘o’ the caves in the area and after 2 nights the lads came ‘n’ found me. They had a few men come up through the hills with 2 mules in tow. So after that I camped out there meself ‘n’ they were comin’ through there as well as through the main gorge. Next time they came up I followed the man into the caves and followed ‘im. Real mean lookin’ bastard let me tell you m’lord.”

“Did the man have a coat of arms?” Tygon interrupts.

“Aye, his shield had what looked like a grey mountain on blue. But anyhow m’lord I followed him through the caves. It’s a pretty easy thing to remember, two lefts then a right and he had a small cache there. Lots of coin in there, as well as a few weapons and a bag full of sour leaf. Matter ‘o’ fact that’s what the men had brought up on them mules. But all in all the fucker probably ‘ad a whole chest full ‘o’ silver and enough sour leaf to get a small army buzzin’. Which as a matter ‘o’ fact he is. I followed him from that cache back to the camp and snuck around in there fer a while. Camp’s split in two. Men who fought in that battle a ways back and the green boys who been recruited since. The harder men are ready to get to raidin’ your lands Lord Tygon, but the youngin’s..they don’t know what they’re caught up in yet. Campfire talk tells me they think the Reynolds are war mongering and cruel, that they’re worried you’ll be torching down their villages.”

You look to your feet and avoid eye contact with Tygon but luckily he is focussed on Sandor Hill completely as he finishes up his report.

“So aye m’lord Reynold, 200 men are camped up there and you got men peddlin’ sourleaf. I got a couple of lads trailing them to see where they’re unloading it. What you want t’do with that information, it’sup t’you m’lord.”

>>Send the scouts to confront the vagabonds, while the Loyal Reins sneak through the tunnels and ambush them

Are the experienced men near the "main entrance" or the green boys?
It would be better to have the Reins fight the real men, so if they're at the back we'll go through the tunnels. If they're near the entrance the scouts go through the tunnels and hold the middle, while we confront the hard men and probably ride them down.

I don't want to kill the green boys if we don't have to.
>>
>>3787394
It's funny how no-one seems to want to talk to these people

>>Send the Loyal Reins to confront the vagabonds, while the scouts sneak through the tunnels and ambush them
>>
>>3787382
>Can we smoke them out?

You could try Ser, but I dunno if it'll work with the gorge being open to the air 'n' all that. Maybe if you started a big fire in the cave itself, but it'd be 'ard ta get that much wood inside there undetected.

>>3787394
Are the experienced men near the "main entrance" or the green boys?

Ain't no organization in there Ser. Camp is pretty mixed. One fire might be all boys, while the next is ol' soldiers wearing peacocks on their coats. Leader's tent though is just inside the caves mouth though outta the rain if that means anythin' to ya.

>>3787441
WHY IS THERE NOT A PRISONER YET??

Didn't get asked to take no prisoners Ser. Just observe 'em. That's why I got some lads still followin' those men who brought in the bags 'o' sourleaf...

Didn't seem like a whole lot of support for taking prisoners. Had the talk with the blacksmith gone better this would have came up though.
>>
>>3787468
>Camp’s split in two. Men who fought in that battle a ways back and the green boys who been recruited since
>Ain't no organization in there Ser. Camp is pretty mixed
Seem like contradictory messages, but that's okay.
I'll vote for
>Set some bonfires around the village and send a runner to lure out as many of the vagaonds as possible
To be sure.
>>
>>3787380
>Send the Loyal Reins to confront the vagabonds, while the scouts sneak through the tunnels and ambush them

They expect the Loyal Reins. We didn't even have scouts at the last battle.
>>
>>3787477
That was poorly worded on my part. That was more in a reference to the morale of the camp. There are two distinct "identities" inside the camp, but they are mixed fairly randomly fire pit to fire pit.
>>
>>3787492
That makes sense. Could have been worded better but it wasn't wrong.
Anyway I'll keep my vote the way it is, then.

ser TtGAgXMe has a reasonable plan, I say we follow it
as for Sandor, he and his squad should get standing orders to take and interrogate prisoners if the tactical situation permits

That is exactly part of the reason I love Mervyn as a character. This handsome, real friendly looking guy who maidens swoon over and boys just want to be, is actually a stone cold killer. People tend to like him far more than they should and the irony just feels very "Westeros".

As for turning him into an even bigger monster, we're currently sitting at 27 experience points so we'll likely be doing a vote for spending it once this bandit business gets cleared up. I'm looking forward to that. There was some talk last thread about possibly getting Mervyn a two handed hammer so I'll likely do a vote for that later as well.

>>3787638
And needless to say, Tygon is the kind of guy who wants to talk to these people before he slaughters them. So you'll be riding up plainly visible and see who comes out to parley before any fighting starts.

“Well Tygon if it were me, I’d take the Reins and ride right up to their camp. See if we can’t send Sandor and his men in through the caves and have them ready to attack them in the rear. That and maybe try to bait them into coming in front of their field of caltrops. We can put an end to this farce today.”

Tygon shakes his head with a slight chuckle.

“As blunt and honest as ever Ser. The idea has merit, but I still hope for a more peaceful ending to this than what you intend. We’ll ride for their camp tomorrow at dawn, that should give you and your men the time you need to infiltrate their caves Sandor?”

The scout captain nods his head and crosses his arms as Tygon gives him his instructions before sending him off, and Tygon then turns to you.

“We shall fly our colours, as well as a white banner to show that we come in peace and we’ll see what becomes of it. I hope to talk down these boys peacefully, but whoever this Gerard is, and any man with a peacock on his coat. Well Ser, they’ll need to be dealt with accordingly…

--- 23/08/281 ---

You had left the village fully bedecked in your armour and weapons as soon as the sun crested the horizon with yourself and Tygon at the head of your cavalry. Ser Art held the banner which displayed the Reynold colours while Ser Austin rode on your left bearing a plain white flag made of a white sheet you had taken from the village. Three hours of solid riding later and you could see the entrance to the gorge and you see a flurry of activity and as you ride up you see a force of men marching forth with a soiled sheet waving from a spear, likely their own attempt at a white flag for the parley. Tygon commands that only him, the flagbearers and yourself were to attend the meeting and the four of your ride out to meet the group of ten men that walked out to meet you. As you get closer you can see that only one man is armed and armoured properly, while another four are at least in a coat of mail and brandishing spears. The other five men though are armed only with clubs and the clothes they had on their backs.

Their leader steps forward to address your group and you can see that his armour was the same silver that Ser Samwells had been, and that this was likely a man who had once called the lordling friend. He was an ugly man, with a squashed face and a broken nose and his voice is low and gravelly as he speaks.
>>
“Tygon Reynold I take it. Ser Gerard Stone. The last of the men loyal to Ser Samwell Serrett. How in the seven hells did you find us?”

Tygon leans over in his saddle and opens his visor to address Ser Gerard.

“I came to ensure that the needs of my people are being met. The villagers told me of their missing boys and where you might be, and I’m pleased to see that they were correct.”

“Bull fucking shit. The village didn’t tell you anything. And all these boys with me know what Reynold honour is worth. That she bitch twisted and lied in Casterly Rock. Anyone who knew Ser Samwell would have known that he’d have given his life seven times over before he let harm befall his daughter. Loved her like she was trueborn he did.”

“And yet here I am Ser. Perhaps the villages in this land have realized that we aren’t the monsters you portray us out to be.”

As Tygon says this, he looks directly at the five unarmoured young boys before continuing on.

“But regardless Ser. I take it you were at the battle, and you should know what my Loyal Reins are capable of. I will forgive the slight you said about my mother should you willingly surrender, elsewise, I fear that I will have to let my men here have their way…”

Ser Gerard Stone hawks and spits onto the ground in Tygon’s direction.

“Fuck your peace. You might have found us before we could actually get anything done, but by my math we still outnumber you 10 – 1. You want us gone, you’ll have to come get us out yourself.”

The man looks over to you and gives you a seething look of hatred that he barely manages to contain.

“I hope it’s me who gets to kill you you fucking bastard. I remember the day you killed Ser Samwell, and I vowed there and then that I’d have my revenge on you. He was a good man he was.”

They turn to leave and Tygon calls out to the men who accompanied Ser Gerard.

“Men, I promise on my honour as a lord. You shall be given one hour to come forth from the gorge, and any who do shall be given free passage back to their village. You have committed no crimes as of yet, and will walk free and be allowed to continue your lives as normal. Tell your friends and brothers that remain in the canyon. One hour. I sincerely hope you take me up on my offer….

The group of soldiers turn to make back for the gorge and you can see the look of apprehension on some of the younger boys faces and you call out to them as they leave.

“Wait. Any of you young fellas named Pete or Jack?”

One boy goes as stiff and straight as an arrow and he turns back to look at you and underneath the dirt and grime you can see the resemblance to the boys mother and he leans on a walking stick and throws back the hood of his patchworn cloak.

“Aye, my names Jack. Who wants t’know?”

“Your mother does. Did you know your mother hasn’t left the sept in days for want of worry? I prayed there with her and all she can speak of is her boys. Take up m’lords offer here and go home to her. I have no desire to bring her sons home in boxes…”

The boy looks at you with narrowed eyes as he nods his head and abruptly turns to walk back to the camp with the others. You ride back to your cavalry and hunker down to wait out the hour.

“They were clever to try and meet us so far out. Likely to try and prevent us from finding out about their caltrop field. I’m afraid that we’ll likely have to dismount to be at all effective against them Ser Mervyn. Are you and your men prepared for such an eventuality?”

You look over to lordling with a flat look on your handsome face and give him a curt nod before scratching through your beard.

“Aye Tygon, we’ll be fine. Leave the horses back with the squires and we’ll put them to the sword..or hammer as it were.”

Tygon grimaces and shakes his head but before he can voice his distaste for the task he is interrupted by a ruckus of what looked to be nearly three score of young men walking out through the mouth of the small canyon and them being berated by the men that remained. You and your men approach them on horseback and you can see Jack walking over with what was clearly his younger brother under his arm and he raises an arm to get Tygon’s attention.

“You said we walk free right m’lord?”

Tygon smiles broadly giving them the glint of gold as he assures them that they were free to return home, but that they should do so with haste and the boys nod their heads and give their thanks.

“M’lord. You should know. Ser Gerard’s got bunch of nails smithed together. Caltrops he calls ‘em. Got ‘em scattered all across the entrance. Says they keep horses right out of wherever ya put ‘em.”

“I trust me son, we already know about the caltrops. And the sourleaf. And all manner of other things. I fear Ser Gerard may have underestimated me. Thank you though, and off with you now. Get home to your mother, there’s a harvest to plant.”

As you reach for your cavalry hammer and pull it out of the iron circle that holstered it on your saddle. You momentarily thought about using the two-handed hammer you’d ordered when replenishing the armoury. It was an impressive looking weapon, with iron siding going down the length of the oaken shaft and a fearsome looking head crowning the weapon but you passed it by in favor of what you were more comfortable with. You’d strapped your impressive oaken shield to your arm and as you did so you saw the black eagle rising triumphantly painted onto it and smiled a small smile to yourself. Flexing your grip on the leather handle of your hammer you look to Tygon who is armed in his resplendent gold and grey plate, with an ornamental red phoenix crowning the top of his helm. Pulling forward a sword from it’s sheath he looks to you and nods, and you slam close the visor of your helm and the world narrows to the view that your helm gives you.

You and your twenty men walked towards the entrance to the canyon at a brisk walk and you can hear the commotion as you see the man beginning to line up into ranks at the mouth of the rock formation and you can see the older men have taken up position behind what remained of the inexperienced small folk who were armed with whatever weapons they had managed to steal or bring with them from their villages.

You look over at Tygon and you can tell by his posture that he is hesitant but you goad him on.

“Come on Tygon. Don’t think about it, just do it. Let’s get this over with.”

The heavily armoured heir nods his head and you and youre men walk through the caltrop field and you can see the look of fear on the boys faces as you close with them and they begin to realize their mistake…

The first boy to fall to your hammer looks to be about 15 or 16. He had the beginnings of a beard coming in and he charged out of the line in a suicidal attempt at bravery and you parry away the blow from his simple wooden club with an almost worrying ease. Your shield came up and the thunk of wood on wood could be heard but in truth you hardly even felt the blow through the shield. Without even skipping a beat your hammer came in from the side and with a sickening crunch cracked what you imagined was probably the entire left side of his ribcage and he falls to the ground breathlessly trying to scream, but the air had been knocked out of him and you stepped over his mewling body as the Loyal Reins closed the gap with the rest of them.

As you closed into the group of boys properly the next to meet his end at your hand couldn’t have been more than thirteen. He was clutching a crude wooden spear without even an iron tip but when he went to strike at you he shook so bad from nerves that he missed you entirely. You felt almost guilty for having to kill such an unworthy foe, but the spike from your hammer found itself buried into the top of the boys unprotected head and he falls to the ground in a slump with a passive look of indifference on his common looking face and you move onto the next corpse that hadn’t realized that they were on borrowed

He falls to his knees and you bring the iron rim of your shield down up on head three times in quick succession until you feel his skull crack and his body goes limp. The rest of the smallfolk levy were panicking and running away from the onslaught as you knew they would, and you look to the line of older and more experienced ex soldiers and bandits. Ser Gerard Stone stands in line with his men, but at a signal from Tygon, Ser Austin blows a warhorn and from the otherside of the canyon at the cave entrance you see your scouts pour forth and take the enemy in the rear. You look to Tygon and see the wet sheen of crimson on his blade that told you he had slain at least one man despite his misgivings about the slaughter, and as Ser Gerard came forth from his line clad in a suit of old brigandine and wielding a sword and shield, as well as a look that could nearly kill, you took three quick steps to put yourself in between the man and your friend and the two of you square off as Tygon leads the rest of the Reins to surround the bandits completely.

You crack your neck in a casual, almost lazy way and you can see Ser Gerards eyes almost burst in a fit of fury as he charges at you yelling and cursing while he raises his sword high and brings it down like a lightning bolt from on high. Yet your shield was more than up to the task of dissipating the blow and the force is spread out and absorbed and you lower your shield just slightly enough to get a good view of the man and your hammer comes swinging around in a vicious arc that collides into his shield. It was old, and the corner of the wood splintered into pieces of kindling and you bring your hamer back in the opposite direction ripping open his guard allowing you to use the point fo your shield as a ram to create more space between the two of you before you swing your hammer with a feint up high before bringing it low down towards the mans knee. He gets out of the way of most of the blow, but one claw from your hammer catches him and you can hear the hiss of pain and the ripping of a few links from his chainmail greave.

He looks to you breathlessly and mouths out the words “I’m going to fucking kill you bastard. Mark my words.”

You take a moment to raise your visor and stare at the man with a long look before throwing your head back and letting forth an audible laugh.

“The only bastard I see here today Stone is you. Let me guess, your father was some little lord who raped your whore of a kitchen wench mother. All you were was a spurt of spunk to him and he kicked you both out. Is that why you’re here? The Vale is a long ways away for a Stone to find himself a home. But as your killing me Ser, you are more than welcome to try.”

You close your visor once again and clunk the haft of your hammer against the iron rim of your shield twice and the mans nostrils flare and he roars as he charges you again.

He leads with his shield this time, not keen to be on the receiving end of another of your blows but you are wise to this change in strategy. You lean in with your own shield and soon it is a battle of wills and strength. Ser Gerard then slips suddenly and attempts to use your own move against you as he lashes out with his longsword towards your knee, but you didn’t wear chainmail to protect yourself but the best Lannisport steel money could buy. The blow hardly leaves a scratch as you bring your hammer down aiming for his head. He reaches up with his shield arm to absorb the blow but the thing does a poor job of it and you can hear him yell out in agony as he drops his shield to the ground and you press forward to cut him off from retrieving it. You see Tygon out of the corner of your eye and you see he is holding his own against a man wielding an axe in two hands, clad in an old stained cream coloured tabard that meant he was likely a true Serrett man. The heir to Ember Peak plunges his sword forward and soon nearly a foot of cold steel is driven straight between the mans ribs and soon ripped out with a flourish.

“Fucking cunt…” you mutter under your breath with half a grin on your face. He might not like fighting, and in truth his younger brother was twice the warrior Tygon would ever be, but he had a certain style to the way he fought that only a nobleman could have. You made a note to bother him about it when all was said and done and you snap back into focus as Ser Gerard Stone came forth yet again…

You swing your hammer straight across your body to counter the blow with a riposte as you thrust the head of the hammer towards the unprotected lower half of the mans face and knock out his four fount teeth in a wash of blood and enamel and the man falls backwards from the blow, stumbling and losing his balance as he crashes on his side. He scrambles to get up, picking up his sword and turning to face you, limping, favouring his one arm. It would take divine intervention for him to prevail here and as you knew all to well…the gods weren’t watching….

In his haste and dazed state of mind he swings his sword but the blow is so poorly executed that you simply side step the blow and he stumbles forward and you use the spike of your hammer to hook into the front of his ankle and trip the man up and he falls face first onto the rocky ground of the canyon, spitting out a mouthful of blood and raving under his breath in between his gasps for air. He tries to right himself, to bring himself back up to his feet once more but you plant an armoured foot hard onto his back and his chest falls the short distance back toward the unforgiving ground. You raise your hammer to end the mans life but a shout rings out loud and clear amidst the clamour.

“SER MERVYN! STOP!”

Tygon shouts out to you and you momentarily lower your hammer and turn your gaze towards the young lord. Between himself, the Reins and the Eagles Eyes, perhaps only a dozen of the men remained and they had thrown down their weapons in surrender. Tygon walks over to you and removes his helm. Sweat beaded on his brow which he wipes away with the back of his gauntlet. A small amount of blood must have been there for a line of red streaked across his forehead and the sandy blonde hair that rested on his brow as well.

“Ser. Killing him here like this serves no purpose. We take him prisoner, and then we execute him. Let the people of the town see the man who is to blame for their problems.”

You scowled beneath your helm. What did it matter if you killed him here and now versus in front of a crowd? But ultimately Tygon was the man in charge here.

“Whatever you say m’lord.” You this as you take your foot off of his back, but has he coughs out a mouthful of blood you turn on your heel and deliver a swift kick to the mans jaw, knocking out a few more teeth out of his mouth and tearing apart the mans cheek. Tygon gives you a disapproving look and you respond simply…”Well it’s not like he’s going to be needing his teeth anymore Tygon. We should have him hung by tomorrow so he doesn’t start getting ideas aout trying to escape.”

He shakes his head at you and rolls his eyes in exasperation before ordering the rest of the man to wrangle up all the men who had surrendered and to bind them and the men set to the task at hand. Sandor Hill approaches you and claps you on your shoulder, hands red with blood and his axe holstered on his belt loop.

“Damn if you ain’t forgot how to fight Merv. Seven above it’s like watching wheat get ground for flour. They’re all just grist for the mill hey?”

You nod your head and chuckle softly behind your helm, the sound echoing off the metal and sounding tinny to your ears.

“What about that cache in the cave there Merv? Or uh, m’lord Tygon. What you want us t’do with that?”

Tygon looks to the two of you and he contemplates for a fast moment before iforming you of his decision.

“Ser Mervyn, accompany Sandor and get a tally of everything. Ember Peak can use the coin, as I’m sure my mother would have a use for it, and the sour leaf well, we can dole that out to the smallfolk. Try and build up some more good will.”

I really don't like how the warhammer is written in the rulebook, so I made changes to line it up with weapons such as the long axe and greatsword.

As for Tygon playing the Lord, he really is a pretty ideal heir. Sure he may not be a great warrior, but given time he will turn into a intelligent general. He's also fairly good looking and hes charismatic. Andrea Brax is quite thrilled with being married to him and they are going to have quite the brood of children themselves. But Tygon really does possess the best qualities of each of his parents. He's cunning and intelligent like Elleanor, but loyal like Titus. His only real flaw is going to be that damn pride of his.

I'll write up a summary of the little skirmish and get you guys to roll for the results, but the Eagles Eyes swept in from behind and the battle was done almost before it started.

You blink back your shock and make to ask for a different task from the young lordliing but he had already begun to walk away and was issuing out orders to the rest of your men and you shake your head and groan audibly, and as you turn to face the mouth of the cave and you can see Sandor smirking, which soon turns to audible laughter and you lash out and give him a swift punch in the shoulder. The two of you had spent time in the mountains together, and many were the night when you had voluntarily slept out in the rain rather than lay out your bedroll in one of the many caves that the scout used as a place to sleep.

“Har har har, so ain’t nothin’ changed at all hey Merv? Still scared ‘o’ the dark?”

“Fuck off Sandor. Get me a fucking torch.”

And the small captain went off and came back with a torch, it’s end covered in pitch and fat, and you clutch the wooden torch in a vice like grip as you make for the mouth of the cave with half a dozen or so of the scouts. Sandor leads the way and you make a mental note to yourself to buy an oil lamp, the brightest and best gold could buy, the next opportunity you had. It only takes perhaps half an hour for Sandor to take you to the cache and you bring your torch to the fore and take a look at what was there. A few small chests full of silver sat beside a desk, some spare clothing, three large bundles of what you imagine were sourleaf. Sandor quickly has his men set about to removing the items from the room and soon enough it was empty. Seven above you were thankful for that. You could feel beads of sweat dripping down your face and your breathing was short and erratic. Once the light from your torch met the darkness it was as if you were staring back out to the void, just like when you had been lost in that old mine complex. Three days, three long terrible days of wandering around in the under dark before you had somehow found your way out. You had taken the beating from your father with a smile on your face, despite it being perhaps the most savage one you had ever taken at that stage of your life, smiling simply because when you opened your eyes you could see the world in all of its magnificence. You took a quick look back at the room to make sure nothing of value was left behind…

--- Ser Mervyn’s Awareness Test ---
Rolled: 13 vs DC: 9, 12, 15
Result: 2 Degrees of Success, One Degree of Success, Failed

The first thing you notice is a few loose coins which you picked up and deposit into your purse. A small sum, but amidst the silver you find 2 gold dragons so all in all it was a tidy reward for you having had to come into this seven forsaken cave. When you were picking up the last of the coins you found saw the glint of gold coming from just under the desk and as you walked over to pick it up, you discover that it is not a coin but a signet ring. Looking at the ring more closely you can see that it bears a ram statant and you frown at the ring. Searching your memory from Allysa’s teachings you think but come up with no knowledge of any houses with a ram as their sigil. You shake your head and all of a sudden you swear you could hear the earth shift above your head and you rush back until your back collides into the wall creating a metallic crash and an audible “FUCK” as you turn and leave after Sandor who you can hear laughing up ahead as his torchlight comes back into view and you find him waiting at the cross road of tunnels and he walks you back out of the cavern and you breathe a heavy sigh of relief when you see the bright blue sky.

You and all of your men made your way back to the village and you rode ahead to catch up with Tygon after taking a quick survey of the prisoners. In total there was their leader, Ser Gerard Stone, along with 11 bandits. Old Serrett men or other menfolk who had fought for and were loyal to the memory of Ser Samwell. Lastly, there were 3 boys aged from 12 to 15.

“They all due to be hung Tygon?”

“Naturally Ser. I may not enjoy violence, but that doesn’t mean I am a soft man. I know the punishment for banditry and breaking the law.”

“Even the boys?”

Tygon goes quiet at this comment and the two of you ride in silence for a short moment before you continue.

“You gave them fair warning Tygon. Half of them took you up on your offer. But those three, they fought. They raised arms against their lord, and for that, they have to die.”

The lordling sighs and his shoulders hang low and he rubs his eyes as he considers his words…

“I know Ser, I know. It just leaves a foul taste in my mouth. But we’ll see it done. When we return to the village, we’ll set about building a gallows and get this job done. I’m of a mind to put this place behind us and return to Ember Peak…”

You give Triumph a kick in the flanks and give Tygon a look to follow you as you pull ahead from the main group and soon enough the commotion fades away and you look back to ensure that the two of you are well enough alone.

“What this about then Merv? Something on your mind?”

You reach down and pull forth the golden ring from its hiding place and you toss it to Tygon and he rolls the old worn piece of gold in between his gloved fingers as he inspects it.

“Where did you come by this Mervyn?”

“I found it in the cache. Seems like someone might’ve lost it?”

“Hmm. I can’t say I know any houses in the west with a ram for a sigil. Perhaps a landed knight or similarly small house? I’ll consult with Maester Aethan upon our return, perhaps you could do the same with Allysa? The Seven know she has a knack for House history. Well done regardless though Mervyn. I fear our work is far from done here, and this ring could be a clue towards this smuggling operation…”

Tygon tucks the ring into his pocket and the two of you continue to ride ahead of the group as you discuss the events of the day. In particular you hassle him about his style of fighting calling him a “fancy cunt” and telling him that he’s lucky he was born a nobleman because had he been born low, he’d have gotten the shit kicked out of him by every stablehand and every apprentice who saw him. Tygon only laughs and tells you that perhaps you could even learn a thing or two from him about style, seeing as you were as plain and blunt as your sense of fashion. The banter continues on for an hour until the light of the village comes into sight and after securing your prisoners and setting your men to their tasks, retire to your tent and fall into a deep and restful sleep.

Morning came early and the scouts had taken to building a large frame work large enough to hang 6 men from at a time and had procured enough rope to make the 6 nooses that would be used and as the sun hung at it’s highest point in the sky, a large crowd had formed. You saw a large number of the village boys who had thrown down their arms watching as well, many of them standing beside their families. Tygon stood in front of the assembled crowd as the first 6 of the men to be executed were prepared and addressed the crowd, his low tenor raising high above the commotion.

“PEOPLE HEAR MY WORDS. I AM TYGON REYNOLD, HEIR TO EMBER PEAK AND I AM HERE TO SEE JUSTICE DONE TODAY. THESE MEN TOOK UP ARMS AGAINST THEIR LIEGE LORD AND TOOK TO RECRUITING FROM YOUR OWN CHILDREN IN THEIR ATTEMPT TO REBEL! AND SO TODAY, I, TYGON REYNOLD, IN THE NAME OF SER TITUS REYNOLD, LORD OF EMBER PEAK, WARDEN OF THE WEST ROAD AND KEEPER OF THE EMBER PASS SENTENCE YOU ALL TO DEATH!

The men are pulled up by their necks by horses that have been tied to the ropes and you can see the men struggle and thrash as they slowly suffocate to their eventual demise. The men have all let loose their bladders and the soft drip of piss stains the dirt below which they hung and the men walk back their horses and their bodies were dragged to the side and the next 6 were brought forward including Ser Gerard. The man is in rough shape, his mouth a bloody ruin and the defiance in him has all but faded and he stands quietly staring at the ground as Tygon turns once more to address the crowd.

“PEOPLE I PRESENT TO YOU NOW SER GERARD STONE. ONCE A LOYAL MAN TO HOUSE SERRETT, HE TURNED HIS BACK ON HIS RIGHTFUL LORD, LORD SOREN SERRETT, AS WELL AS HIS NEW HEIR, SER GORDON. HE HAS BEEN FOUND GUILTY OF TREASON AND DISTURBING THE PEACE FOR WHICH THE PENALTY IS TO BE HUNG FROM THE NECK UNTIL DEATH.

He raises his hand and lowers it sharply as the next batch of people are hung and he looks every inch a true lord, stoically looking off into the distance with his hands behind his back as he surveys his people. When this round of men fell still, the remaining three boys are summoned forth and placed before the noose. The crowd emits a small gasp, and you can hear a few of the women and smaller children begin to cry. You wrinkle your nose at their cries. The boys had committed treason and deserved no less then what the punishment they had been given, but Tygon surprises all when he addresses the crowd for the third and final time.
>>
“PEOPLE HEAR ME ONCE MORE. BEFORE YOU STAND THREE OF YOUR SONS, THREE OF YOUR SONS WHO DID NOT TAKE ME UP ON MY OFFER TO WALK AWAY FROM SER GERARD AND HIS MAD PLAN FOR VENGEANCE. AN HOUR WAS GIVEN TO THEM AND YOU MAY LOOK AMIDST YOUR RANKS AND SEE ALL OF THEM WHO CHOSE LOYALTY TO HOUSE REYNOLD AND LIFE VERSUS LOYALTY TO SER GERARD AND DEATH. BUT I AM NOT THE MONSTER THAT STONE HAD MADE ME OUT TO BE. THESE THREE BOYS WILL BE GIVEN THE CHOICE BETWEEN DEATH BY HANGING OR TAKING THE BLACK!

Tygon looks to the boys and all three of them shout out that they would take the black and Tygon gives each of them a sad smile before turning once again towards the crowd.

“AS YOU’VE HEARD THEY HAVE CHOSEN THE BLACK. AS AN ADDITIONAL ACT OF MERCY I WILL ALLOW THEM TO SPEND ONE LAST NIGHT WITH THEIR FAMILIES BEFORE RETURNING TO EMBER PEAK BEFORE BEING SENT ON TO LANNISPORT TO TAKE SHIP TO THE WALL! SO DECLARES TYGON REYNOLD!

The boys rush off to their families and embrace their mothers and fathers, and Tygon walks over to you smiling, but his smile falters when he sees the look on your face.

“Should have hung them Tygon. Let the rest of the village though that being young doesn’t excuse your crimes…”

“Well Ser Mervyn, I am trying to quash a rebellion before it starts. Love can be more effective than fear in such regards, and I do not plan to give anyone any further cause to dislike my family. As a matter of fact, I’ve still extended my offer to the blacksmith to take his younger son as a page. This is about instilling loyalty, not fear Ser.”

You shake your head as the young lordling walks amongst his people, taking the time to speak to nearly every one of them and you turn and instead to walk back to your camp, Cardyn Lantell and Austin Osgrey in stride….

And with that, I'll call the story side of quest for right now as I have some errands to run. In the mean time, Mervyn is now sitting on 30 EXP so is there any particular way you guys would like to spend it?

Possible skill suggestions might include:

- Athletics (for more damage and combat defence)
- Endurance (for more health)
- Animal Handling (for jousting and what not)
-Persuasion (because we need to learn to play the game)
- Warfare (because if we're going to command men we should probably boost it)

Specialties to look at for 10 EXP each would include:

Powerful (gives us a boost with lances and our shiny new warhammer)
Intimidate/Charm - We arn't very good at talking to people

I'll also need the skill you guys want to increase for the loyal reins as they become absolutely ridiculous death machines.

> Animal Handling (for jousting and what not)
I've been telling myself that I would vote for persuasion for the past month, but I really want to knock some highborn shits from their saddles next tourney.

This was an exciting peek into what our future lord will be like. I wanted to join the lady Reynold at the wedding at first but have no regrets now.

I know I talked about killing machine Mervyn but I am going to vote
>Persuasion
We very well know Mervyn can back up his words but there are times where it doesn't have to come to violence and the improvement is the way to achieve that.

>>3792045
Are they light or heavy cavalry? Where can we see their current stats?
>>
>>3792064
They would fall under heavy cavalry, all their missing is some proper half plate to truly look the part.

But their important stats would be

Agility - 4
Animal Handling - 4
Fighting - 5

So essentially I'm allowing you guys to either choose Animal Handling or Agility to rank 5, and there is where the Loyal Reins are going to get capped because an entire unit of fighting rank 6 knights just seem implausible to me.

With their mounts and the rules for cavalry they also have endurance and athletics 4 when they're mounted due to their horses.

And not to encourage meta gaming, but I'll give you guys a heads up because Mervyn would know this in character. Harrenhal is coming up in about 3 months time, and during that tournament you guys will probably end up using every skill Mervyn has. Jousting, The Melee, Courtly Intrigue, Haggling.... It's going to be a very grand affair so choose your skills and/or specialties carefully. Three months probably won't be long enough to gain another 30 experience to increase another skill. So just giving you guys a heads up.

Any other questions that I can clear up before I take off for a few hours?
>>
>>3792082
>in about 3 months time
Okay, in this case, as we won't get another 30 XP until then, I'll switch my vote to AH. Got to kick those highborn asses and chew sourleaf.

What does Agility do for mounted knights? No idea which of the two would be better.

And lets pick up Ride/Spears specialties right before the tournament.
>>
We can only increase 1 characteristic. My recommendation is Athletics. >>3792097
Agility increases the combat defense, as does Athletics. Spears could be ok, but with our current XP allocation, as well as the level of competition, I doubt we will win the joust. If we’re lucky and don’t get matched up against someone good early, we could at least make it to the top 3 for a prize. If we go Athletics, it increases the damage we do significantly. That will give us an even chance of WINNING the melee. We’re likely to place in the melee anyway. But that extra point of defense from Athletics, combined with the fact that damage is Degrees of Success multiplied by your Athletics, means that we will beat enemies 2-3 rounds faster than we’ve been doing.
>>
>>3792416
I'll support this. I was hoping to get our persuasion up but it seems like there are other priorities atm. Athletics is a good one to bump up, and helps us the most in the melee which is our best event as it helps with damage and combat defense. From there, hopefully we can invest some points into the strength specialty for using a lance or the new zweihammer. Hopefully our wife is around at Harrenhall to cover our glaring persuasion weakness
>>

This was me btw. ID changed.

Oh boy, The Stag is going to LOVE us
>>
Tie game between Animal Handling and Athletics, which honestly isn't surprising to me at all really. I can say categorically that we will not be winning the joust against Rhaegar Targaryen because I won't be altering canon in such a dramatic fashion. Even the melee is going to be a very serious grind against some Hero level competition like Robert Baratheon and Jonothor Darry whos a member of the Kingsguard and Dontos Malroy in his prime...

Mervyn is good, but if I'm honest, I'm not really expecting him to win any events at the largest Tourney in a generation, but then again Father didn't expect us to win the archery contest either so who knows.

Anyways, I'm going to let this go overnight. Looking forward to see where this goes. See you all tomorrow!

This made up my mind. I couldn't decide between athletics, AH, persuasion but the opportunity to go warhammer to warhammer witb Bobby B is too big to ignore.

It would indeed be glorious (if it happens).

Odds are stacked against us heavily though, prepare those lucky dice. And your anuses.
>>
>>3793240
Ah. Those statblocks sure are something.
Assuming Joe doesn't pull some weakass shit like failing to give them Bo3 rolls then I think our only hope is to seek out Robert early in the melee and try to make an impression. IIRC the melee at Harrenhal started with a 7-sided group bout so if that's organised by kingdom of origin then we might be fighting side by side with Jaime, that'd be a goid chance to impress someone of high standing before it turns to a free for all and we get our head stoved by one of those three or Ser Arthur Dayne who should by all rights have an even better stat block than Jaime.
And this is Barristan and Robert in their prime so will probably be stronger too.
>>
>>3793260
Picture this 6 Fighting old guy dying to a bunch of masked sodomites.

I wonder why he has Blood of Heroes but didn't get 7+ in Fighting. Old age reductions?
>>
>>3793260
Imagine pulling a win out of our ass.
>>
And Athletics takes it overnight. That was personally my second choice after persuasion but for making Merv into a fighting machine? It's pretty damn good.

Damage 5 for his cavalry hammer is now a potential 20 damage per round of combat? Jesus.

Get some more experience before Harrenhal and invest it into the Strength specialty? You could potentially be dealing up to 40 Damage per round of combat with a warhammer. Sure you Combat defence goes way the hell down but still. The potential to be one shotting motherfuckers is pretty god damn exciting.

>>3793240
Yeah and I'm going to modify these but they do give a fairly decent view into the kind of competition is going to be filling out the upper tiers of the tournament. Good thing we'll get one tourney to practice in before we get there.

>>3793260
All of my Primary Characters get the Bo3 rolls to help even things out. I don't bother with nameless mook but most of the named characters I do.

>>3793281
For some reason the book gave him Status 7 instead of Fighting. But as I said above, I'll be changing these stats up. God I'm excited for Harrenhal like you guys wouldn't believe. Lot's of prep work to be done, and it's only just over 2 months away IC!!

>>3793291
Hilarity would ensue.

Alright guys unfortunately, I got called in to work this morning so no run today, and likely not tomorrow. I'm hoping to continue the story on Thursday of Friday but I'll keep you guys posted on Twitter.

Yeah it was my thought too.

>And Athletics takes it overnight.
Is it reflected in Mervyn's physique?

I mean, the portrait that you posted doesn't show our boy's condition. How tall is he? Ripped or wiry but overall heavy due to height alone to pack the force behind those hammer blows? Sort of like Tom Hopper on pic related?
>>
>>3793570
According to the sheet, Merv is 5'11 and 212 pounds (give or take).
That makes him king of the manlets and pretty jacked.

>>3794311
Pretty tall for the society he lives in
>>
>>3794313
Do we live in a society?
>>
>>3794511
Yes. A feudal society. Peasants rise up!
>>
>>3793570
It certainly will be. I don't know if any of you guys play/follow rugby but Mervyn is built like a back row type player. Think Sam Underhill or David Pocock. Pic related for reference only Mervyn is a little bit shorter.

>>3794311
I'll be adding on 10-15 lbs in regards to this increase in athletics to represent extra muscle build up and strength. But he is truly the king of manlets. Marqus will sneak by 6'0 by the skin of his teeth

>>3794513

>>
>>3795262
If you want your descendants to have the massive quality, I'd suggest perhaps looking towards a house such as the Crakehalls that have robustness in their bloodlines. But even then, it would still likely take 3-4 generations of consistently matching up with "large" houses.

>>3796391
Hush you.

>>3796400
On one hand, I feel slightly defeated because of how similar the characters are and I wish I had done more to separate them physically. Although I like to think that although that even though they are both absolute beatsticks who couldn't talk their way out of a wet paper bag, they play as radically different characters. Even if Mervyn starts heading down the path of the faith (which is a big if), it'll likely be in a very different aspect such as the actual learning of the faith and belief, or perhaps repentance than Landons sure and profound belief.

>>3796410
Son. of. a. bitch.

But in all seriousness, that would be a pretty kick ass fight. It's unlikely to happen in the even remotely near future. Maybe one day after the Greyjoy rebellion? Who knows.
>>
>>3796434
With a mother like Alyssa, none of our children will get massive.
>>
>>3796505
You are certainly not wrong. The tallest any of our future sons have the potential grow will be 6'2. However, if Mervyn manages to have another son and he turns out to be that height, if you arranged a marriage to a family like the Crakehalls, Umbers, Cleganes or the like, and manage to do so over 3 or so generations? It's possible (but improbable) for Mervyn's great great grandchildren to be massive. It's an odd tangent but thinking about Mervyn having to arrange marriages amuses me.
>>
>>3796551
Nah. Marqus and his brother is gonna marry the Redward twins
>>
>>3796566
Woah now who said anything about a brother? I can say with absolute conviction that the rest of Mervyn's children are going to be rolled for and in the hands of the dice gods Except for one of the twins that are coming up next as part of my penance for fudging that roll for Marqus. One of them is a girl, the other is up to fate
>>
>>3796434
>Maybe one day after the Greyjoy rebellion? Who knows.

Landon would be too young come the Tourney in Harrenhal to give Merv any sort of a challenge. But the tourney in Lannisport following the Greyjoy Rebellion? Yeah that'd probably be some prime Landon vs Middle Aged seasoned veteran Mervyn. That battle would be hype as hell.

Anyway. I feel like Landon and Grallner play so differently and have such opposing world views and upbrings that despite both being considered lowborn upjump Knights (each in their own ways) that their only real similarities are in their physique and being handsome as all hell. Granted one of Landon's major goals was marrying up into the Waynwoods via winning a Tourney, though their was another option or two, and their stories were somewhat similar. Mervyn and Landon fall on such opposite sides of the spectrum though that I hardly have a difficult time distinguishing between the two. Landon being Lawful Good and Mervyn being more Neutral Evil if we're just talking at their core most distilled is enough for me to see a difference.

Also Landon wouldn't be caught dead using a warhammer. Might as well be using a woodsmen axe like the peasant Mervyn is. The sword is the weapon of the True Knight.
>>
>>3796613
i dont think Grallner would think highly of Mervyn "The Gods Aint Listening" Reynold
>>
>>3796613
>>3796640
I don't think Mervyn is ever going to be allowed to retire from fighting. Too many HYPE duels to be fought. I imagine Mervyn and Landon would absolutely detest each other if they actually ever got to talking.

Man this has just got me all kinds of amped up for nothing here. My job is dicking me around so I'll be unable to run until Sunday at the earliest. Really sorry about that you guys but when I pick back up again you can look forward to Allysa and Merv, some Tyrus stuff, and some more wedding preparations for Joanna. Damn Elleanor, you sure had a busy year....
>>
>>3796645
Allysa needs a good dicking, also. Is Marqus gonna be Elleanor''s favourite grandchild?
>>
>>3796646
She does, and she's physically able to after this past 2 months of healing and rest. But fair warning, don't forget what Maester Aethan said about not getting Allysa pregnant right away. Might be some will tests involved awfully soon I suspect, and as for Marqus and Elleanor.

She loves him like you wouldn't believe. But he will likely be her second favorite grandchild after her first born granddaughter who she is going to turn into her personal pet project. She has plans for Marqus, and will mentor him, but she has a thing for raising intelligent women capable of running a household.

Don't need to half-sword(hammer?) a warhammer to fight a dude in armor. Checkmate atheists.

I just don't see a defensive character winning out against a warhammer. Landon would end up shieldless and it only gets worse from there. 2 degrees of success to activate shattering is really not hard to hit with 6 test dice.

>>3797223
Sex? Without the possibility of procreation?! NOT IN THIS QUEST!

I wouldn't say Mervyn is a boob guy. His main preference when it comes to women is that they are small, which Allysa obviously is.

So heres the current (tentative) plan. I'll be hoping to run Sunday night provided I manage to actually finish all the work I have to do tomorrow, I'll update you guys both on twitter and here tomorrow night.

It'll likely be a thread with lots of intrigue/persuasion, as well as spending some time with Marqus before heading to Lannisport with the family to prepare for Joanna's wedding and Harrenhal.
>>

>before heading to Lannisport with the family to prepare for Joanna's wedding and Harrenhal
I thought attending the wedding was mutually exclusive with restoring order with Tygon.
>>
>>3799623
That's a different wedding. Elyse is Alyssa's younger half sister who is marrying Gordon Serrett, the future Lord of the Silverhill. Joanna is her older sister. The haughty one that wanted to marry a Lannister and got stuck with Farman instead.

Nailed it. With Joanna's marriage to Serbaston Farman, House Reynold will have marriages with two future heirs and the firstborn daughter of the current lord with three old and powerful houses in the west.

The Brax's whose home resides near the headwaters of the Red Fork, the Farmans who control large parts of the Sunset Sea, and now the Serretts, who like the Reynolds control the the Lesser Mander, while the Reynolds hold the most accessible pass along the Gold Road...and she still has two more children to marry.

>>

The Lord and Lady of the house do have a fair amount of influence on whom their family marries, so much so in fact that should Mervyn not earn his own lands and keep, he would be almost entirely beholden to whomever the ruler of Ember Peak is at the time. Even if he does create his own cadet branch of House Reynold, it will still be expected of him to consult with his liege before finalizing anything.

Yeah sorry about that guys. I totally forgot I had some personal things to attend to. But I'll leave you guys with some homebrews from Father's document to gloss over as there will be a House Fortunes part in this next run and you guys can consider Mervyn's recommendations. Merv would likely focus on defense and power holdings, and currently there is no more room for any more power units, hence the following holdings below.

Barracks S&S
Requirements: Power 31+ & Hall or larger Defensive Holding
Investment: 5 Defense, 5 Lands
Time: 12+1d6 Months
Bonus: House Fortunes +1, Power +1, The owner of this holding may house up to 5 additional Power units.
Other Rules: A Barracks functions as both a Defensive and Settlement Holding.

Description: Most castles, keeps, and halls come equipped with a space for their military might and defenders at their base. Though far more often than not this is a tower or lower subsection of the holding that would otherwise not see use, stocked with cots, an armoury, and a mess hall. More militarily minded Lords and Knights may employ temporary camps inside and outside of their main holding to further increase their military might at the cost of morale and the risk of disease. The Barracks is a dedicated holding that provides the highest order of professional military quarters, they drastically increase morale, give space for commanders and captains to coordinate, extensively increase a House’s armoury and provides a limited training yard that can easily be expanded upon for drills and sparring.

Bridge R&G
Requirements: River
Investment: 5 Defense, 5 Wealth
Time: 12+1d6 Months
Bonus: +1 Wealth, Units defending the bridge receive a +2 bonus to defense. Can house up to 2 units. When defending the bridge enemy units are unable to flank the defending unit.
Other Rules: A Bridge functions as both a Defensive and Settlement Holding.

Description: Though not necessarily a point of defense for many Lords the bridge serves many purposes in his domain. Commerce and trade often makes its way across them, a small toll taken for the Lord’s efforts. More fortified positions, such as The Twins, utilizing the natural choke point they provide to funnel invaders into a slaughterhouse. More permanent structures, are made of stone, while wooden simple bridges are more common in rural areas raised by the smallfolk or pauper Lords.

Curtain Wall R&G
Requirements: Hall or larger Defensive Holding or Large Town or larger Community & Wealth Holding: Quarry
Investment: 15 Defense
Time: 24+5d6 Months
Bonus: Units defending the wall receive a +3 bonus to defense. Can house up to 4 units.
Other Rules: A Curtain Wall has 35 Health and a 20 Armor Rating.

Description: A steep stone wall that encircles settlements or defensive structures providing a formidable first line of defense against invaders. Often they include a handful of towers of various stylings and two or three imposing gatehouses.

Hoping to run tomorrow night but no promises

We should build a statue of ourself
>>
>>3804560
What does the new domain from the land grab look like? It may make more sense to build a defensive structure out on the edge of our territory than at the heart of it all.
>>
>>3805205
You mean like building a structure for Mervyn to settle in the future? lol

>>3804560
Joe, with Mervyn not actually controlling the house and having no holdings sheet, I personally find it difficult to recall what house Reynold actually has (and decide on recommendations).

I've got another request as well. Can you tell us who picked the replacement for Sir Terrence as the new leader of Reynold infantry? Since Reynold military matters are fully becoming our dominion, can Mervyn get the measure of this Ser Plumm?
>>
>>3804895
You know, if Mervn ever gets his own holdings, I could 100% see him either getting a statue, tapestry or painting of himself (and maybe of Allysa and any children he might have). His motivation was family when the quest started, but I changed it slightly to "legacy" to better match why exactly he wants power. He wants to be remembered, and he wants his future sons to rule and not have to live as he did.

>>3805205
The Eastern Auric Hills is land directly of the Ember Pass and Headwaters. It's a region of grassy foothills that make up what is essentially a very large river valley that travels south all the way into the reach. It is bordered on it's east by mountains controlled by House Lydden, and to the south is obviously Serrett lands where we got it from. The Lesser Mander river forms the western border where House Serrett still holds the Western Bank. Other Houses that rule parts of the river include Greenfield, Turnberry and Falwell, along with a smattering of small knightly houses and small time bannermen.

>>3805406
https://1drv.ms/x/s!Am-XCwIRrb9Hg12_9u5yT0CQwqS1

Sure thing! And on your guys' worries about Mervyn having a place to settle when for when (if) he gets landed, when that time comes, I think I'm just going to allow you guys to do a regular house creation, and perhaps fluff it as House Reynold buying up a piece of land from a nearby house and landing him there? Unless you guys want to be given direct control over a piece of Reynold land of course. Keep in mind that the land given to a knightly House will be a fair bit smaller than that of a domain of a Lordly house for obvious reasons, roughly a 1/4 to 1/3 of the size for my example. No mechanical pros or cons though, just fluff.

Regarding Ser Addison Plumm, he was the captain of the Reynold Second Infantry, so Titus grandfathered him and the second into becoming the "new" first. Ser Lionel Ruttiger is his second in command, who is mostly just a lickspittle who gets on with titus, but Ser Addison is a fairly neutral man. He's a bit of a traditionalist so favours Titus over Elleanor as he sees a womans place as to serve her husband, but he's relatively indifferent to Merv. Wasn't thrilled when he won Allysa's hand, but he go over it after seeing how skilled Mervyn is at fighting first hand. He's a fair enough commander for a tertiary character.

--- 25/08/281 ---

Your men had wasted little time in disassembling the temporary camp you had been staying in over the past week or so, and were nearly ready to depart back to Ember Peak. Tygon was speaking to the village elder that he had so often been seen walking around the village with and you see a small boy about eight years old following him everywhere he went. You see your future lord clasp the village elders forearm in a fond embrace and you can se his gilded smile doing it’s work as he bids the man good bye and walks over to his horse to mount up. The young boy, whose name you discovered was Robin, had been given an old packhorse to ride although he looked awkward and unsure of what he was actually supposed to do now that he was actually upon the steed.

“This’ll do much good for our reputation with these people Ser Mervyn, mark my words. He’ll serve as a page, and eventually a squire. And with a Master at Arms such as yourself, the boy will make a fine addition to Ember Peak I’m sure of it.”

He gives you a small smile as he looks over his shoulder to regard the boy, and you see the smile fall from his face as his eyes look upon the three boys who would be sent to the Nights Watch and he his own golden looking hazel eyes meet your own steely gaze.

“They’ll be put in the dungeons when we return to the Peak Tygon, and they should count themselves lucky they aren’t walking with the Stranger as we speak.”

“They’ll be put in the dungeons yes, but I won’t see them mistreated. They are my prisoners Ser, and they shall be treated accordingly. They’ll see regular rations and they won’t be kept in the dark while we wait for a wandering crow to come and round them up to take them north. Understood Ser?”

You nodded your head at Tygon’s decree and he takes off to the head of your cavalry and soon you find yourself riding between Ser Austin Osgrey and Ser Cardyn Lantell as they debated their own thoughts on what should be done with the boys gone renegade. Ser Austin was of a mind that echoed Tygons belief, they had surrendered and were now the prisoners of House Reynold and should be treated accordingly. This brought a snort from Cardyn who thought that we should have just cut the boys throats as soon as you were out of sight of the village and the two of them continued to argue for most of the first days ride and you realize that your Loyal Reins were decidedly split. There were men who were good and honourable, men who epitomized the code of chivalry and the image of knighthood like Ser Austin, but at the same time you had men such as Ser Walder Erenford and Ser Cardyn, men without scruples who would do whatever was asked of them. You ride off to gain some quiet as you contemplate the consequences as you realize that the regiment of cavalry was firmly in your hands and it’s fate, bearing and manner would all depend on how you shaped them. A thought that plagued you as you rode the entirety of the journey.

The trip home was blessed by fair weather for the season, and with the smaller party you had made excellent time in returning to Ember Peak. You had left Headwaters by the old wooden bridge that connected the Gold Road and your mind runs with possibilities as you imagined an impressive stone bridge instead of the current half rotten wooden one, with stout guardhouses on either side of the river to ensure that tolls could be collected and the bridge could be easily defended. It did not escape you that Ember Peak, despite Lady Elleanors recent decree to have your home expanded into a proper castle and the stoutness of being built into a mountain, there was little in the way of stopping an enemy host from marching directly to the gates of the hold itself. A bridge would help in that regard, stopping any armies or forces from the west, and would ensure that no invading forces from the east could continue east to Lannisport and Casterly Rock with just leaving behind a token siege force to keep House Reynold out of a fight. As you rode further up the hill that led to Ember Peak and your home came into view, you also find yourself thinking that a proper curtain wall could be of use as well. The mountain pass where Ember Peak was located was wide, and you see the similar site of the smooth stone walls jutting out of the rough mountain rock that made up the castle courtyard and stables across the gold road from the mine entrance where most of the wealth of the house came from. A curtain wall on either side of the castle, with proper gate houses would ensure that defense would become extremely difficult. War machines such as battering rams would have to be towed up the hill from either side to be even remotely even effective and that would leave the draught horses that towed them vulnerable to arrow fire, while the angle and length of the hill would make using trebuchets and catapults nearly impossible for all but the most determined of foes.

You turned off of the road and made for the gatehouse and as the gates were opened and you looked up to the battlements, seeing the proud red eagles fluttering in the mountain wind against a field of mountain grey, you are reminded of a third problem that would likely plague the house if Lady Elleanor wished to expand the military further. The garrison known as the Ember Guard were on patrol, and you could see the courtyard was bustling with people as your rode through the gatehouse, looking up to the arrow slits and murder holes that pock marked the otherwise smooth tunnel and the fact that Ember Peak was full to bursting was evident. If the Lady, or Lord, Reynold wished to expand her military, they would have to find somewhere to house any additional men they might take on. As you saw men carrying out loads of stone in wheelbarrows, you begin to think that it might be able to hollow out another section of the mountain and devote it to the storing of troops, weapons and other things of a military leaning. Perhaps there could even be a level for a new and more functional armoury. You made a note of that as you dismounted and a stable hand came to take Triumph back to his stall to be brushed down and as you made your way across the yard and into the subterranean halls of your home you soon spy a group of young women walking towards you, laughing and giggling as they did so.

You soon realize that it is your wife and Lady Andrea Reynold, accompanied by their respective handmaidens. You recognize Cerenna Lantell as your own wife’s, but Lady Andrea’s handmaiden is a mystery to you. Soon enough the ladies have approached and Lady Andrea is the first to address you in her confident, almost cocksure manner.

“Good day Ser Mervyn. I trust you and Tygon were successful in your intentions if you have returned? Perchance you might know where my husband has made off to? Allysa has been a godsend helping me get through this pregnancy and has been most helpful with her advice.”

Andrea Reynold, formerly Andrea Brax, gives you a small but wicked smile, and Allysa and Andrea’s handmaiden choke back a small amount of snorting laughter while you see Cerenna Lantell go beat red in the face, even in the glow of the torchlight.

“Last I saw him, he was personally escorting some prisoners to the dungeons my lady. Couple of boys headed for the Watch.”

“Excellent. My thanks kind Ser. Come Elsa, let us see if we cannot find my dashing husband. Good day to you Ser Mervyn…and you as well Allysa. I’m sure I’ll see you soon with more gossip to speak of.”

And as quickly as she left, the future lady of Ember Peak was off to find her husband. She showed little sign of her pregnancy yet, although in truth Allysa had been much the same and you embraced your wife warmly before she handed you the bundle that she was carrying that was your son. You looked down on him and placed one of your thick callous fingers in his tiny hand which he soon instinctively grips tightly bringing a hint of a smile and cough like laugh from your lungs.

“Strong little man isn’t he Ally? Aye, he’ll be a strong man I reckon once he gets a little older.”

“I couldn’t agree more husband. Although he certainly isn’t tender when it comes to feeding I tell you, little warrior that he is. Holly tells me he bites harder than any of her own children ever have, and when I’ve done it, it hurts almost as if a man grown was biting me there.”

Cerenna, still beat red in the face, excuses herself from the conversation and walks away briskly with a finger over her mouth from embarrassment and your wife laughs politely at the girl.

“You’ll have to forgive Cerenna. She isn’t normally this shy when we talk of such things, only when theres a man present. She’s quite chaste. But anyhow, mother told Andrea and I to ensure that you and Tygon were informed that the monthly meeting would be happening the day you returned. I expect Andrea will send Tygon to the chamber shortly, after shes…uh….finished with him, and you’ll be expected there as well.”

You and your wife walk and you talk of what had happened in the hills, and she tells you of Marqus and all that had happened at Ember Peak while you and the rest of the family had been gone. The wedding of Elyse to Gordon Serrett had been successful, if a tad boring according to Tyrus. Only a simple joust was held to celebrate, and no more than fifty knights had decided to participate in the event along with a feast, and Elleanor and Titus had soon returned. She also told you that the family would soon take to Lannisport together, and that new raiment would likely be in order to prepare for Joanna’s wedding and the splendour of Harrenhal that would soon follow. The two of you had ended up in the gardens and she had gushed about her excitement for nearly two hours before a servant had come forth and summoned you to Lady Elleanor’s solar. Your wife stood to take Marqus from you and gave you a chaste kiss on the cheek before whispering in your ear that you would find her in your chambers once the meeting was done with, and you gave her a look that she played completely innocent to as you left to follow after the servant.

Adding in the wealth Tygon brought home, thats 6 wealth coming in to House Reynold this month, as well as an additional +1 Law from rooting out trouble makers.

Any suggestions to the council from Mervyn's point of view? Keep in mind none of them will be able to be built today, but it is your responsibility as the new head of the military to bring up defense issues, as well as power suggestions.

You entered the solar and found Lady Elleanor seated at the table along with Maester Aethan and Tygon and took your seat at the half empty table. Lady Elleanor notices your gaze at you look at the empty seats. There were always some empty seats. No septon called Ember Peak home as there was no proper chapel or sept for him to preach from, and Lord Titus was often absent from said meetings.

“My Lord Husband has decided to go hunting with a few of his lackeys instead of attending today. No matter. Maester Aethan, if you will…”

The maester stood with his hands folded in front of him, hidden beneath the soft grey wool of his voluminous robes and his chain of many metals clinking softly. The maester served as Ember Peak’s steward on account of the numerous links of gold that coloured his chain showed he was adept at the counting of sums and other various fiscal matters.

“Of course my Lady. This month was not as profitable as it may have been, but the house has still taken in a sum nearing 1200 gold dragons. Combined with what remains in our coffers, we’ve approximately 2200 dragons sitting at our disposal. Obviously 1000 of them are earmarked for the lady Joanna’s dowry to the Farmans, but I would be of a mind my lady, to highly recommend expanding the mining operation. As you well know, the Targaryens purchased a considerable number of rubies from us last month, and if they consider to show an interest we simply won’t be able to meet the demand…”

“Yes Maester, I know of your desires to expand our mining operation, and I believe that you can do the basic arithmetic to tell you that we do no have the funds to expand our operation at this moment in time. Besides, that coin will go to constructing other projects at this moment in time. Spring is blossoming and I intend to put that coin into funding a mill. We need to put the people we have newly acquired to work, and take their minds off of their troubles. Tygon’s report is worrying to me and I am keen to alleviate the worry of future rebellion in my lands.”

The Maester bows his head and you hear him acquiesce to Elleanors commands, as she turns her attention to you.

“Ser Mervyn, does anything regarding our military or defenses give you cause for concern? I myself find ourselves lacking. Perhaps another 200 foot soldiers, another unit or archers and another regiment of cavalry.”
>>
“My lady, if I may. While I agree that our military certainly should be expanded, we currently have nowhere to house such a large number of men. If I may make a suggestion, I would recommend the construction of a bridge over the Lesser Mander.”

“Ser, if I do recall, there already is a bridge that connects the Gold Road across the river no? Right across the way from Headwaters?”

--- Ser Mervyn’s Persuasion Test ---
Rolled: 15 against DC: 12
Result: One Degree of Success

“There is my lady, but it is a rickety, wooden thing that can barely support a horse and wagon. What I would build would be a stone bridge, wide enough for two carts to pass by one another. Perhaps with a small guardhouse on either end? That would allow for us to assist in the collections of tolls as well as being able to house another unit or two of soldiers upon completion…”

Maester Aethan perked up at the collection of tolls and give you a wide eyed look that showed he almost couldn’t believe the suggestion had come from you.

“My lady, I would throw my support behind such an idea. It would “kill two birds with one stone” as it were. All we would need would be to organize would be a purchase of stone and some able hands and we could have a serviceable bridge within the year or beginning the project.”

Tygon chimes in that he could likely speak with Lord Andros regarding stone, saying that House Brax maybe known for it’s iron mines, but they have access to a quarry as well and would surely give us a reasonable price for their stone and Elleanor gives the three of you a shrewd look…

“It is a rare thing that all of my council agree on such a matter so thoroughly. Fine. We shall postpone the building of a mill and save the coin for a bridge, and in future months we shall put our resources to acquiring the materials necessary.”

The meeting continues on, and most of it bores you to pieces and when it is finally done you stifle a yawn before heading for the exit as quickly as you can and you decided to head to…

You left the solar and made off towards your bed chambers to visit with your wife. Your heels clicked off of the stone walls and you chase after your shadow as you made your way to room. As you unlatched the door to enter you find the chamber well lit, and your eyes pan the room before finding your wife lying naked on the bed. Her pale white skin contrasted against the midnight black wolfskin that was draped over the goosefeather mattress and you give your wife a wide smile as she rises from the bed and saunters over to you as her arms fall across your shoulders and she tip toes to softly kiss you before pulling you by the hand towards the bed but you plant your feet and you stop her dead in her tracks.

“Ally, Maester Aethan…he said that you shouldn’t get pregnant right away didn’t he? We can’t be doing this.”

Your wife turns and you look her up and down. She was losing the weight from her pregnancy, although her body still bore some scars from the act. The skin on her stomach had stretchmarks from where her belly had swollen, and although her long red hair hung low and covered them, you knew her breasts were larger and changed. You found yourself wanting her more now than perhaps you ever had before you’d became a father and she drags a fingers from your chin all the way down your chest.

“Maester Aethan says my body has healed, and all you need to do is not spill your seed inside me if you are so worried husband. Besides, Andrea has given me some ideas…”

She tugs on your arm and starts to undress you as she takes her seat on the bed and as you come to crawl on top of her, she places her finger squarely on your collar bone and shakes her head as she grabs a fistful of your hair as she pulls your head down between her thighs.

You lose yourself in her. Her warmth, the softness of her skin and her taste. After hearing her soft moans she demanded you entered her and you obliged. Heavy breathing, heart beats in sync, warmth, pressure and you become almost entranced in watching her facial expressions, the movement of her breasts and the intimacy of the moment…

“Fuck.” You mutter out breathily.

Allysa just giggles and pulls you into her closers and wraps her legs around you.

“Relax Merv, I know you’re a dashing man in your prime, but I can’t imagine that even you’re that potent. One time should be harmless husband.”

The two of you entwine into each other listening to the crackle of the fire as Allysa rests her head on your muscular chest and falls asleep and you listen to her soft breathing until your own eyes grow heavy and close of their own accord.

The entirety of the Reynold family had ridden to Lannisport together aside from the young James who had remained in Goldengrove with Lord Mathis Rowan. Ser Gordon Serrett and Elyse had travelled up the Lesser Mander along with a small collection of attainers and had travelled along with the rest of the family to attend the considerable wedding and you had ridden with the Loyal Reins as an honour guard. You had ridden down the Gold Road and as you approached the coast you could see both the walls of Lannisport rising in the distance, as well as the impressive magnificence that was Casterly Rock. Against the sunset that was disappearing as the sun fell behind the Sunset Sea you could see why some people said that the Rock resembled a lion in repose and you slowly approached the gates of Westeros’ third largest city…

As the rest of your men and your family road through the gate, you yourself wheel your horse about to face Ser Cardyn Lantell as he stops and scowls angrily towards the gate. His hazel-gold eyes that were common to the Lantell family were locked onto the gates that had the lions of Lannister carved into the wood and you cough to gain the attention of the young man.

“Cardyn. Remember, we depart in three days time. A pair of ships called the Pelican and the Last Sunset and we depart at dawn. I’ll speak to the captain to hold up just outside of the port for two hours to give you time to row yourself out. There should be plenty of fishermen and other such small boats to hire along the coast.”

Cardyn just nods his head as he watches the rest of the party disappear through the city gates and spits as he gives his horse a kick and sends it into a trot as he follows what turns into the Ocean Road south in search of a fishing village.

“Three days Cardyn. Dawn!” You shout this after him and he raises a hand to let you know that he understands and you click your tongue to get Triumph moving as you ride through the gates yourself and catch up to the rest of your party as you rode to Lantell Manor.

Upon arriving, you were greeted by Ser Tyrion Lantell and Lord Titus dismounts and embraces his brother warmly as the rest of your party descend from their horses and go through the arduous process of greeting amongst noble houses. When they turn to face you it is obvious how similar they look, although Lord Titus has put on perhaps another 30 lbs from his indulgent lifestyle as a lord. They both even wore their moustaches in the same handlebar like way. You spy Ser Cedrick Lantell as well, Cardyn and Cerenna’s eldest brother, along with his wife Katherine Myatt and their brood of children. You had forgotten the childrens names but are soon reintroduced from your last visit. The eldest boy, who was perhaps 7 or 8 by the name of Caleb, a young girl of 5 named Catrina and a bobbling toddler who Lady Katherine informs the group that her name is Christine. Your own wife steps forward to Ser Tyrion and you follow her to introduce him to his first nephew.

“Ser Tyrion. It is a pleasure to see you again uncle, it has been far too long. I am pleased to introduce you to your nephew, Marqus Reynold.”
>>
Ser Tyrion smiles fondly at Allysa, although his eyes lose their kindness when they fall to you with a simple nod and curt “Hello Ser” serve as his greeting for you, but he cradles Marqus carefully in his arms, for more gently than you might have expected for a man of his station but he explains that he was sure his wife would have loved to meet him had she not passed on a few years ago. You hear Marqus babble happily and Ser Tyrion gestures and servants come forward to take care of the horses and to escort you all to your respective rooms to unwind before attending a feast in Lord and Lady Reynolds honour and you place your arm around your wife as she holds your little son tightly and you walk into the across the beautiful mosaic that decorated the courtyard floor behind the stone walls that surrounded the manor and followed the respective servant assigned to yourself and Allysa to your be chambers.

--- 14/09/281 ---

The feast had proved to be lavish, dining on dishes you had never even heard of, let alone tasted, and had left you feeling tired and sluggish and so you had gone to bed relatively early and slept in late, awakening to find your wife dressed and in Cerenna’s presence as they prepared themselves for the day.

“Ah your up Merv. Good, good. Father, Tygon and Tyrus and Ser Gordon are breaking their fast. Tygon extended you an invitation to go accompany them to the tailors today if you’d like to join them in. Mother, Elyse and I will be doing the same, along with Cerenna. Surely you don’t want to be caught at the largest tournament in living memory wearing out of style clothing no?”

Her and Cerenna quickly get into discussing what they think about various styles and cuts of dresses and gowns as you roused yourself from the bed and the girls disappeared to allow you some privacy and a young page you recognize as Caleb Lantell enters the room to lay out your clothes for you and assist you in dressing and once finished, you made your way to the main hall where you found your potential companions for the day, and Tygon greets you and asks whether or not you would be coming with them to the tailors for the day….

“Aye Tygon, I’ll be coming with you. Allysa “suggested” that it would be a good idea and the last thing I need is for her to be embarrassed at a big event such as that.”

This brings forth a laugh from the table as you sit down to break your fast quickly on a mug of ale and warm bread and you were soon off into the maze of the city that was Lannisport as you and the rest of the family from Ember Peak followed Ser Cedrick towards the Street of Cloth. Triumphs hooves clopped in a satisfying manner off of the cobblestone streets and you rode for an hour or so. The crowded streets bustled with traders peddling their wares, beggars begging on the side of the road and the Red Cloaks patrolling in their organized patrol routes and you breathed in the not unpleasant smell of the city. It smelled of smoke and dirt, tinged with sweat. It was an honest smell, and as you rode under an overhanging building into another small courtyard past a few guards bearing swords and shields and are greeted by a courtier who enter the courtyard through a set of double doors and bids you welcome. You all tied up your horses and followed the man inside to the richly furnished sitting room as Lord Titus, Ser Cedrick, Ser Gordon Serrett, Tygon, Tyrus and yourself all take a respective seats as servants come forth carrying platters with cups of wine and various cheeses and breads which you nibble on while you wait.

You mostly listen to their conversations, only participating when directly asked something, and you noticed how much Tygon resembled his fathers side of the family. He and his cousin Ser Cedrick looked far more like brothers than Tyrus did, although there was still a fair amount of resemblance. Tyrus resembled Titus in almost everything but his colouring. It isn’t long however that the conversation regarding Ser Tyrion’s latest acquiring of certain dornish spices at an incredible bargain that the tailor walks through a door at the back of the room, bowing dramatically and offering his apologies.

“Ser Cedrick, Ser Cedrick my friend, please accept my humblest apologies. I did not mean to keep yourself and your noble companions waiting. Please, help yourselves to another cup of wine my friends.”

The tailor is a middle aged man, perhaps in his mid thirties, and you can see that he himself is expertly dressed as he continues on…

“I know Ser Cedrick is too humble to brag about the quality of his own clothing, but the Lantell family buys their garments from my establishment exclusively. Rest assured my lords, you are in the most capable of hands. I’ve heard all about the splendour that will be the Tournament of Harrenhal, and you shall fit in with the highest and most noble of families. Even the Targaryens if I daresay so myself.”
>>
“Thank you Otto. I have no doubt that my uncle, Lord Reynold, as well as the rest of his family will appreciate the work that you do. Perhaps you would wish to start with Lord Reynold himself?”

“Of course, of course. My Lord, if you will but follow me I can ensure you nothing but the absolute highest attention to detail. I myself look after each of my clients.”

You hear him say this as he escorts Lord Titus to the room from which he came in and the talk once more resumes between the group. The talk goes on for nearly half an hour before Lord Titus returns, and Otto takes Tygon under his arm with a flourish and soon disappears just as Lord Titus had. Servants pour forth more wine, and Sers Cedrick and Gordon begin to discuss their preferences in weapons and stances, a topic which you are keen to join to pass the time. Tyrus himself joins in, commenting on how you had been teaching him the ins and outs of blunt weapons.

“Surely you would prefer the longsword as a weapon though Tyrus?” Ser Gordon asks politely.

“No Ser. I did once, but not after seeing what Ser Mervyn can do with his hammer. He fights like nobody I’ve ever seen.”

Ser Gordon gives your squire a perplexed look before staring over to you.

“I remember watching you slay my brother Ser. Your squire clearly looks up to you, and you do possess an impressive amount of skill at arms to defeat my brother so handily. But I wonder if it will be enough to triumph at Harrenhal against the deadliest fighters from the Seven Kingdoms. Surely men like Lord Yohn Royce will be in attendance, as well as the Kingsguard such as Ser Arthur Dayne and Ser Barristan Selmy. I’ve also heard rumours of the new lord of Storms End being a positively fearsome fighter, along with a handful of other warriors who’s prowess is considerable.”

“Can’t say I’ve ever fought against Kingsguard, but I’m looking forward to it Ser. It should be exciting to see how the lowborn son of a hedge knight fares against the greatest and noblest knights in the realm.”

The group politely laugh at your statement, and conversations, along with food and wine, continue on for hours until it was finally your turn and Otto ushers you to his place of work and there you see materials that covered every inch of the considerable room as he begins to take your measurements.

“Quite a considerable chest you have Ser. A good, strong build yes. We’ll accentuate that, have the ladies swooning all over you. Now have you given thought to colours and materials?”

--- Ser Mervyn’s New Clothing Decisions ---

Materials:
>Wool (The cheapest material, will simply give the bearer an air of sophistication) – 5 GD
> Linen (The middling material, gives a +1 to a specific Persuasion Specialty) – 15 GD
>Silk (The expensive material, gives a +1 to a specific Persuasion Specialty, as well as increasing the disposition of those currently at Indifferent to Amiable at tournaments and other noble places) – 30 GD

Colours:
>Red: Incite
>Grey: Charm
>Yellow: Bargain
>Black: Intimidate
>Write in: Give me the colour and specialty of your choice and a reason why and I'll likely allow it

The outfit will regardless be of the latest fashions and styles, and you won't stand out if you choose to go with the simple wool. You currently have 65 Gold Dragons.

Some things to consider when choosing the specialty are going to be what you guys want Mervyn to achieve at Harrenhal. Charm and Bargain are worth mentioning, but Intimidation has the added advantage of Mervyn already having a bonus die in it. So yeah, feel free to ask questions or just vote away.

Silk if only for a lowborn son to wear the Nicest materiel and charm because we suck at it.

What was your pregnancy table again>
>>
>>3808996
Its death on every number but 1!
>>
I'm going to let this vote go over night as it's currently tied for the colour/specialty vote.

>>3808996
The original table is as follows;

1 - 9 = Very Difficult birth. Advised not to continue having future children for fear of death

10 - 35 = Difficult Birth. Advised to wait at least 9 months to a year before conceiving again.

36 - 70 = Regular Birth. Advised to wait at least 6 months before conceiving again.

71 - 100 = Easy Birth. Advised to wait at least 3 months before conceiving.

13 & 62 = Fatal Birth

However, those numbers were adjusted slightly on account of Allysa getting pregnant well before Maester Aethans recommended time frame, as well as gaining two additional "Fatal Birth" numbers. How much they were adjusted, and what extra numbers were given the fatal quality are going to remain a secret until 9 months from now though.

>Silk
>Grey (Charm)

I like how Mervyn comes off as more of a charming type off of the battlefield and then switches to intimidating when he puts the armor on.

>>3809043
This is a neat chart. Do you change anything up for twins?
>>
>>3809163
I like to think of it as being the guy just looks so handsome, all blonde hair and blue eyes, that people just instinctively tend to like him. The intimidation part would be when he let's them look into his eyes and they can see how empty and cold they are when hes angry. They arnt full of rage like you might expect, they're just...empty.

Well originally it would just be a single number that would be fatal, the twins doubled it to two. From there it was doubled to four. During the birth of Marqus, there were also two fatal numbers due to it being her first pregnancy.

Silk
Grey
I think Charm is definitely going to be the most useful in a tournament setting. Intimidate is our forte but how likely are we to want to do that at Harrenhal?

And in a close race, Grey takes it. Technically, grey is a Reynold colour as it is the primary colour of the field of their heraldry, but I'll make it a darker coal grey for Mervyn.
>>
You look at the materials the man has laid out before you, and upon running your hand over the bolt of silk you inform him that you’ll be choosing the silk.

“An excellent choice Ser. Have you put mind towards the colours of the garments? Lord Titus has chosen a splendid mix of grey, red and yellow, while the young Tygon has chosen to go for a more extravagant doublet of yellow.”

You ponder for a moment and scratch away at your chin through your beard as you consider your options. You had taken a black eagle for your own personal sigil, and yet you were not a member of the Nights Watch, nor did you care to be taken as one. Your eyes traverse the bundles of cloth until you find one of a certain grey, darker than that of House Reynolds colour, but not so dark as to be mistaken for black.

“This one I think.”

“I would agree with you Ser. Light enough so as to not being intimidating, but dark enough to possess a certain…“debonair”. The latest fashion include slashes in the doublet so I’ll include a mix of red and yellow undergarments to allow them to show through. Yes, yes. Linen trousers for durability, with silken small clothes. A luxurious quartered red and yellow shirt over which the most expertly cut coal grey doublet you’ve ever seen. Would you like a red eagle embroidered on the doublet Ser? I know both Lords Reynold have chosen to do so.”

“Not a red eagle, a black one.”

The man nods and continues taking your measurements and writing down various things down that were completely over your head.

“Now Ser, payment will be due upon pick up. I will not lie to you my services do not come cheaply, but rest assured there are no better clothesmakers in Lannisport. 30 gold dragons upon your return from Fair Isle. And you are all finished Ser.”

He wraps up a small length of rope and places his quill carefully on the desk, informing you to send in Ser Cedrick or Ser Gordon and you head back out towards the sitting room. You pass by a servant and grab a glass of wine off of the tray and give the nod to Ser Gordon and he rises and follows your path as you flop into the comfortable chair and join back in to the discussion that the men were having…

--- Break ---

Alright I’m going to call this thread here. We’ll pick back up next week with Joanna’s wedding which is going to be a fairly large event. Thank you all for playing, and I’ll keep you guys updated on the specifics of the next run on twitter.

Joe, I have a suggestion regarding the pregnancy rolls. You should do it as best of endurance stat of the woman. So Alyssa should roll twice I think and take the highest roll.
