You feel your feet swept from under you as your once clan-mates take you arm in arm. And like that, you're on your back being dragged out of the den. You knew you should have kept your skills a secret. Goblin society is remarkably swift at dealing with threats to the clans' structure.

As your heels are torn raw on the cave floor, you spot different sections of the den and reminisce. There, that was the food pit. And there, the gore nest. You had dreamt for a long time of having clan-mates recognize your skills, And you had prepared yourself for any actions they may take. The wilds aren't kind to lone Goblins. But you never imagined you’d feel such dread at being exiled. Either way, out of any Goblins, you are surly the most likely to survive being exiled. After all, you are

>Remarkably smart. You’ve learned the languages of the pale-men and spiky-ears through books and notes you found in the gore nest. It wasn’t a lot, and maybe it did fill your head with grand ideas slaying dragons and increasing tariffs. But it made you a much better thinkin Goblin then them

>A master of combat. You don’t know much, but you’re very good and leaving pale-men in heavily gored piles of flesh. The chief saw this and knew it was only a matter of time till you overtook him. He obviously made the first move. But it’s his loss as you could take down far more prey than any other green'n around.

The cave walls slowly emerge from a deep blue to a flashy bright yellow as the mouth of the den nears. Only a moment more, and your captors halt. You feel their bodies tense as you are tossed out of the dens entry and into the forest’s underbrush. You look back, only to find them drawing their weapons. The left most goblin, Gal, readies his knife. The one he uses to gore the pale-men. And to the right, Mor points his spear at you. With no weapons of your own, you have no choice but to back up further out of reach.

Gal spits at you. "Ye took this to yersef. Doin'em pro-fain thins lik I saw.". Ah so it was Gal who snitched. It makes sense. He did walk in on you

He did walk in on you Chanting the witch-words of the spike-ears. You aren't very well versed in the common tongue, but you have learned the chants they use to make lights and fire and water. Something no other goblins been able to do. At least not to your knowledge.

You don't have much to say to Gal. You didn't know much about him save for his exploits in gathering food. And so, with options to consider, you move deeper into the foliage.

So... you're on your own. It's both terrifying and a relief. First things first, you check what you have on hand.

You sweat at the sight of no weapons or food. But it'll be okay, right? Pale-men only travel on the roads to begin with, so till nightfall you should be safe from danger as long as you avoid those.

Okay, now that inventory has been taken, time to question what comes next. Where to go and what's important.

>Move east. You remember the hunting parties talk of hills which housed big lizards. That could serve as a new den for you.

>Move west. It seems most of the pale-men and Spike-ears come from the west. And where the Pale-men rest, there is bound to be food.

>Move North. Little is known of what was positioned north of your old den, but word around the clan hinted that it could be where your former chief came from.

>Move South. You know not of what lies south of the den. The unknown is scary, but surly there lies something useful?

>Move South. You know not of what lies south of the den. The unknown is scary, but surly there lies something useful?

You begin your march southward, staring towards the sun uncomfortably to get your reigns. Out of the books you've read, you have learned a few interesting things. First, that Pale-men navigate not through scent but through signs. Signs that they create or that are already there. Like where the sun is in the sky, or what side of a tree moss grows on. Though many a goblin reveres them as the scourge of the earth, you can’t help but grin toothily at their ingenuity where goblins have none. Second is that they don’t like eating bloody foods. You don't understand that one. If you don't eat the food while it's fresh and bloody, doesn’t it become putrid? Why would you wait except to dry and fry for storage? Cooking is just a confounding thing, but the Pale-men seem to do it a lot.

You walk south through most of the day, and the sun is 3/4 ths through the sky when you finally find something of interest.

You make it to a gorge in the earth. 20 paces wide, but 200 long. Within, you see the forest merged with ancient architecture, the likes of which you've never seen before. Tree trunks spiraling around and crushing ancient pillars. Bridges between the sides of the gorge far below house outcrops of luscious grass and deep green moss. The plant-life seems to have damaged the stone as much as reinforce it. Pale-men build on the ground. And from what you’ve read, Spike-ears build in the trees. You aren't familiar with what could have built such a structure within the ground.

You stand there, analyzing the structure from above. The trees within are filled with squirrels, which could make a good meal if you are able to catch them. You even spot a fawn at the far end of the gorge within a distant corridor carved into the rock-wall. However, your hungry glare is cut short by the sound of chatting. “Where do want it a be? So How are food water-hungry?” Your understanding of the language isn’t very good. It sounds like common-tongue and is pertaining to food. The sound echoes out of the gorge. You stare vigilantly from the brush at the formation's mouth.

After a few moments, you spot a group walking across one of the bridges between the sides of the gorge. You are able to spot three tall and two short. The short ones are carrying weapons, so they are likely the tiny pale-men. Some of the notes in the gore-pit referred to them as… half-lings? Half...things? Something like that. They are smaller than a Pale-man, with a wider face compared to their bodies. They are far more cunning. The three tall are likely Pale-men or spike-ears. All of them are armed and deadly, it looks. The voice you hear seems to be one of the Pale-men who is waving his flask in the air noisily. Maybe complaining it’s empty? They are all haggard in some manner, and the tall man in the back, a tower of a foe, has an ugly head slung across his shoulder like a sack. The head is green and fat, far larger than a goblin head.

You aren't sure what you should do, but after a few moments of consideration, you decide to

>Stay hidden till they are good and gone. You like the look of this place, but not the look of them

>Shout out to them. Maybe it’s time to try and take a leap. They could be… nice? (Roll D100)

>Try to sneakily slide into the gorge. Maybe following them, or at least having them near could prove useful (Roll D100)

>Slowly walk away and continue south. This place isn’t worth it. Far too dangerous.

>Fire a flame-shot at them. Who knows, it could hit. Worst case, you could run. (Roll D100)

“WATER! Er… FRIENDS!!!!”, you shout. Dammit. You’re nervous AND you don’t speak common fluently.

Even before you finish speaking, the tall person at the front of the party, who bears a hood, is staring directly at you. The eyes of the entity under the hood bore into you. Then it speaks.

“Looks like we got ourselves a goblin…” The feminine voice that comes from the hood sounds tired and annoyed. She aims a bow towards you confidently and knocks an arrow.

“Hol-on Hess. There's a part you left out. It’s a… talkin goblin?” The man who was holding his flask in the air lowers his hand onto the arms which the female is using to pull back the bow’s string.

“So what? It’s a goblin.” She says, looking back at the flask-man. Her stare suggests she is only getting rid of an annoyance. A pest.

The tower-man in the back was scanning the lip of the gorge in search of you. He finally spots you and smiles. “By my shit, it is a goblin! You sure it was that their goblin was talking?”

“Yes, the goblin spoke in common. I heard it and I even saw it partly.” She responds to the tower-man.
“But it’s still a goblin. I don’t see why it talking should make it any less of a menace.”

They continue their debate, the woman’s bow and steady hand trained on you the whole time. And then you notice something odd. Both the Half… things. They’re gone. You aren't very concerned with this as you still have a weapon pointed at you. You decide to

>duck down into the brush once more. It’d take time for that arrow to travel the hundred or so paces distance between you, so it wouldn’t be too big a risk. Just wait till they leave.

>Speak to them. Why should your fate be left to them without your own say. (what will you say?)

“I’m goblin. Not clan. More like Pale-skins then stupid in cave” You manage to speak out.

The one wielding the bow doesn’t seem to falter. The tower-man in the back chuckles at this. “I’ll be damned. It really can talk! You ever saw a goblin that can speak common?”

“Never-mind the talking thing. A goblin that’s all alone is undoubtedly a patriarch. It’ll start a colony and infest the nearby area within no time. It has to go” The women say.

The flask-man responds next. “You think that scrawny bean is a patriarch? That just looks like a normal goblin to me. It’s not ripped and it’s not tall. In fact, it looks particularly gaunt.”

The women's eyebrows lower in frustration. “Are we really arguing over whether or not to kill a goblin?”

The tower-man smiles towards you. Wait, no… behind you? “I’d say this calls for a vote. It’s not as though we have much more to do. We already bagged and tagged smelly over here.” He makes a disgusted face towards the head on his shoulder, still dripping with blood. “I vote indifferent. It seems Ryn, you wish to look at this little more before we drop it?”. The flask-man nods in response. “Well then, what of the sisters?” At this, the group looks up at you.

You instinctively turn around and find yourself at the bad-end of a gnarly-looking dagger. The half-thing holding it is only slightly taller than you. She peers at you with a beastly smile. Behind her is another she-Half thing. This one is wearing glasses and wields a book, not a blade. But nevertheless, her smile is no more waned then her.... Sisters’. “Let’s keepem. It’s not every day you find something like this. Maybe a… temporary pet?”

The Half-thing grabs your arm and tries to drag you behind her. This is a familiar feeling. It’s not even been a day. You decide to

>Run for it. Break her grip and book it. (d100)

You decide to walk with her. Maybe you can talk your way into a better position?

Before you have the chance to speak, you are whisked away. though you keep the name "Bone wits" in your mind. Your old clan never bothered to give you a clan-name, as you were not yet a hunter.

At the behest of the Half-things, you are rushed down the gorge-side. Practically being carried, you soon find yourself on the same bridge you were once looking down upon. You feel nervous yet eager at the same time. All of the entities here look very threatening and warning alarms in your head are exploding every few seconds. You ready {Candle-Light} just in case things get hairy. If you cast it suddenly and pour a lot of will into it, you can make a small burst of light. Maybe enough to distract them temporarily. However, overpowering your urge to run or fight is the urge to know. The same feeling that caused you to go exploring for words in the gore-pit. The same feeling that brought you here.

You notice now that the sun has finally set. The forested-gorge is heavily blackened by the lack of sunlight, though this isn’t a problem for you. It simply turns your vision into shades of grey. But to those Pale-men who hold you, they appear offset by the night. Ah, that's because they can’t see in the dark! You can’t remember if you read that or heard it from a clan hunter. They move together just inside one of the gorges many corridors and off the bridge. There, they start a small fire to better see.

As the party talks, one part of you begins to think while the other listens for any valuable information. You know why they are so adverse to you, a goblin. Goblin hunt Pale-men. Not just for food, but for brood-meal. Young goblins can be grown in a gore-nest. This is the quickest way to build numbers, as a goblin grown in a gore-nest only has to be implanted into a female non-man-like mammal. Like a deer, or boar. It then eats the prey from the inside and, with separate external food sources, can grow to full size within 2 weeks. Pale-men are the most abundant of beasts, so they are often used as the primary supplement in a gore-nest. Even more, though, is what happens in bigger tribes. Female man-like things can be implanted themselves, and they don't die from the process. They simply yield far stronger young. You've never seen it done, but the chief seemed to be planning for such an event after the clan’s numbers rose to a certain degree.

The party makes the conversation quick. They seem to be debating what their next step should be. The only valuable information you could gather from this was that they seem to be a form of… hunter for hire? They call themselves ‘Adventurers’’.

The sly female Half-thing tries to clasp a chain around your neck while you are listening attentively. She has the same grin on as before, which sends bad goose-bumps across your arms. You decide to

>Just let it happen. Maybe this is the quickest way to assure survival.

You try to avoid the chain in a panicked manner, but the Half-thing grasps onto your shoulder with tremendous force. How could something the same size as you handle as though you were but a small animal? Either way, you shout out in retaliation.

“Wait! I'm not threat to pale-men. Don't need chain. Fast one frightens!"

You were surprised how together it sounded despite your panicked state. As you are avoiding being chained at the neck via squirming, you catch a glimpse of the parties' reactions. It seems you've disrupted what they were speaking of. The Tower-man gives you a pitied look. The Pale-man known as Ryn glances at you with an odd curiosity. And the Pale-man the others identify as Hess just glances at you sharply, annoyed.

“Hey sis,” The Tower-man mumbles out. “Why not leave it be. Just for now?”

You feel her grip falter as she begins to obey the command. “But I was only having fuuun.” She lets out a pouting expression.

At this, Hess turned her gaze to the Tower-man. “What are you doing? It’s still a goblin, no matter how much we can understand its plea… It’s just an animal.” The last part of her sentence came out especially confident.

Tower-man responds hesitantly. “I know but… just hearing it speak is so…”

The flask-man intervenes then. “I think what he means is it feels weird to treat it that way. Like if a cow about to be slaughtered suddenly let out a plea of mercy? It’s oddly humanizing. Not enough for me to let my guard down...” he turns to the Tower-man with a sympathetic gaze. “ but I get where you’re coming from.”

The group stares silently at you for a moment. They slowly spring into action, one by one. The second book-holding Half-thing steps out from the shadows to help with their movements. Soon, many tents are set up and the fire roars far more than before as they prep to cook.

After some time has passed, stew is handed out to everyone. Except for you. The Knife Half-thing throws small chunks of meat on the floor in front of you, seemingly expecting you to eat them off the floor. She giggles as your stomach growls.

A lot of the conversations they are having over dinner is nonsensical to your ears. Some kinds of buildings called “Guild-houses” and “Shop’s” come up, which lack an explanation. Soon, however, the conversations quickly begin to center around you. Many questions are thrown out, none of them directed for you to answer and most staying unanswered. However, soon the Pale-man Ryn centers his gaze on you and throws a question.

“Well, why don’t we ask it itself. How can you talk? What is it like to be a goblin? Do you have a name?” He appears to be asking half-jokingly, mainly to get a rise from the one named Hess. She is unhappy with you becoming involved as a partaker in the conversation for whatever reason. Your stomach growls uncomfortably.

You look Ryn in the eyes. The group can sense your intent to answer and the atmosphere becomes oddly tense. Then your words stumble out.

“Learn to speak you words through pages of the Pale-men and Spike-ears. Easy to learn words. Hard to speak. But did it.” Your breath to shake your nerves. Every eye is on you.

“Goblin life is… hard. Clan no like smart goblin. Threat to clan stability.”

At this, you stand up. The man Ryn almost falls off his sitting-stone in surprise. You place your hand on your chest. “Bone Wits. Name is Bone Wits.”

The book carying half-thing is visibly excited by your statement. The tower-man simply gives you a half-smile.

All the others though look to be somewhat shocked. Given the floor still, you decide to play your odds. “ One other thing goblin life… We don’t stew.” You try to make a not-so-subtle hint towards your hunger and eagerness for food.

To this, you get a surprising reaction. The female Hess begins to laugh. Not an angry laugh. A jovial one. “Maybe we were right not to kill it! This is pretty interesting.”

The others are fairly confused about this development. Her sudden good mood. She quickly explains herself to their questioning gazes. “Well, look at it! A leach and wolf is explaining to us how it learned to read! And why it’s friends were wanting rid of it! I don’t know why but just the sheer picture before me is somehow entertaining.” She looks over to the giddy book half-thing. “Maybe give it some stew. I’d like to hear more about the… goblin life.” she smiles amused at that last part.

While the half-thing is pouring stew into a bowl for you, the woman throws out the next question. “So these books… where did you get them?” She adds a slightly threatening tone towards the end of her words. “And is reading all you know how to do,... Bone Wits?”

You pause for a moment, trying to feign thoughtfulness. In truth, you are just looking for the words.

“Found books and words in gore-nest. Clan thinks was trash. Bone Wits took them out of curiosity. Now he can read and write.” another pause. “Write was a lot of time. Not strong like you. Goblin, after all.” You motion towards your limited stature. Tower-man smiles at this.

You take a moment to once again gather your thoughts. During this time, the half-thing brings you your stew. You set it to the side to allow for what comes next.

You mumble the words of the spike-ears under your breath. {Candle-Light} is cast.

A bright orange light, similar to the day, floats just next to the fire. It’s brightness only lasts for as long as you hold out your hand, and with a wave of your forearm, it disperses. You’ve had this spell the longest, so it’s no surprise you have such a confident control over it.

With that, you sit down and blow on your stew as the others did.

“You took the books from the dead. I suspected as such. Only to be expected from a goblin though.” The knife half-thing says this in a teasing manner.

The tower-man in the back is the next to respond. “You’re saying you taught yourself how to read and write? You really are smart… for a goblin.” You couldn’t sense any teeth or bad meaning in his words but they pressed on you all the same.

“How can you be stuck on It’s talking When it just cast a spell before out very eyes!?” The book half-thing yelps this in the direction of the others.

“What do you mean? We’ve seen plenty of goblins that can cast spells before. Shamans often lead tribes too, don't they?” This interjection originated from Ryn. More confused than criticizing.

“Yes but that’s different. A shaman uses Craft-spells. Emotion-based. They hold little power and are merely a result of a magic-user with well-trained emotions. But that… that was an incantation. He spoke that spell into life. Which means…” The girl’s giddy attitude is broken by the sight of her comrade. Hess is glaring fiercely at you.

“Who taught you Elven?” She says this through with a piercing voice.

This confuses you for a moment. Many thoughts run through your head as you are faced with the eyes of a predator. Is she a spike-ear? You haven’t gotten a look at her face due to that hood… So you decide that since you’ve already come this far, you might as well tell the truth.

“Learned it. Lot harder language though. Very beautiful. Only know how to write it, except for few words.”

She stands up then, shaking her hands to let off some steam. You are very surprised by the quick 180 she’s undergone. “You are right. It is beautiful. Far too beautiful for a disgusting mouth like yours to be speaking them.” She abruptly walks towards her tent, followed by Ryn who looks to intend to calm her.

After an awkward silence, Tower-man looks at you sympathetically. “She, like most elves, has a real disdain for goblins. More than most races. I’m sure you can guess why. But don’t beat yourself up over it lad.”

He looks over towards the knife half-thing and laughs a little. You follow his gaze and find that she is giving him a complex sour-face. “Now what’s that for sis?” He asks innocently.

“I don’t know… it’s just weird for you to treat it that way. You’ve faced goblins before…” She struggles to find her words. “I dunno. It's just gross.”

The way these ones talk of you so badly with you in earshot reminds you of your time within the clan. It’s a little annoying, but not unbearable.

He rises to his feet and stretches in an exaggerated fashion. “Looks like it’s about time for bed. Sis, I assume you are wanting to stay on watch?”

Knife Half-thing responds with a nod, her sour face still on display.

When walking past you to his tend, he says one last thing.

“And if he wants to leave, let’em. It’s a judgment call on my part, I know. But one I will answer for if anything undesirable happens.” Moving his gaze to you, he continues. “We head out in the morning. We are going into town, and I'm not sure how the gal will feel after tonight. You are free to leave if you wish. Or you could chance it with Hess in the morning.” He stumbles into his tend and lays down to sleep without even closing off the entrance.

For some reason, his words warmed you. Even if had intended a warning, you couldn’t help but feel it a recognition of some kind.

And with that, you pick up your cooled stew and eat. It is very rich compared to the mild taste of raw deer. But you push through it, and end up filled.

After that, you decide to

After that, you decide to Make conversation with the knife half-thing. You think about it, and maybe sticking with this group is worth the risk. Food, shelter, and protection? A good deal. But that doesn't hold back your curiosity from the ruins around you, so you decide subconsciously to explore before the night is up.

You look the half-thing in the eyes and open your mouth to speak. Her eyes wait expectantly.

"Fight many goblins? Must be strong. Or smart. Most goblins not smart, though. Wonder why."

For the first time, she gives you a non-predatory smile. It has a hint of understanding in it infact. However, she appears to more be reminiscing than showing you gesture.

"Questioning why your different, huh? Same here. Me and sis... we're different too. Not in a good way, either. But pops..." At this, she nods towards tower-man's tent. "Pops helps us out with that. We aren't all here, y'know?" She taps her head. "We don't get sad like other people do. We don't understand. That's how pops puts it, at least. I give you a lot of shit for actin like animals. But truth is, me and sis used to do the exact same thing. But where you have a reason, survival, we didn't. I'm sure, even if you haven't done it before, that a goblin should be familiar with the concept of cold-blooded murder."

Seems you struck something in her. It's a relief to finally have a serious word.

Her eyes remain distant for a while. Her gaze is one of confusion and memory. like she's solving a puzzle in her head that's far too big.

You look off in the distance yourself when next you speak. "Killing. Is part of life. Some good. Some bad. Still life."

She smiles once again, her eyes still distant. "That's a very simple way of looking at it. I wish others saw it that way."

You seize the silence with another question. "Where you from? Why are adventure?"

Her eyes lazily drift back towards you, still in thought. "we're from Havilla. City of Granite. That's where sister and I met pops."

She becomes a little more focused, and continues on. "Like I said, me and my sister aren't the majority with how we think. She loves recording data. Always wanted to be a mage. Me, I love cutting things open. With out condition, both are individually unhealthy interests. We make a pretty good team though. Pops put us to work in adventuring, and who'd know cutting and writing could produce such a profit." While talking, she expertly balances her knife handle-up on the tip of her finger.

You ask another question, this time not about the half-thing before you. "Why does the Spike-ear hate? How can I fix?"

Her eyes dilate back towards you in a similar means to before, though she lacks her past giddy attitude. "Maybe your nest was too young to know, but most well-sized goblin nests are bound to have a few girls chained up somewhere. Most die from infection a few weeks after being captured. that or blood-loss. I don't believe in mercy, but if I did, I'd say that'd be true to the definition. But elves, no, elves don't die. There have been cases where large nests have been found with 50 elves within. Most there for years. Some, undoubtedly, for decades. The torture they underwent is unfathomable. Surly a hell to say the least. I'm pretty sure large nests target elves specifically because they are long-lasting."

She has a look of disgust in her eyes now, all previous hints of pity gone.

"A goblin raid on an elven village doesn't kill. It tortures. For years and years. That's why 'Spike-ears' hate you all. If you wanna get on her good side, make yourself useful. She's never going to like you. But she might tolerate you if you prove an asset."

You get up without another word and begin walking along deeper into the corridor. Her eyes follow you beastly, and she regains a hint of her predatory smile and you disappear into the darkness.

After a while of walking, you reach a splitting point. A balcony that opens up onto a bridge that crosses the gorge, or a corridor that leads deeper into the rock. Are we limited to the number of spells we can caste a day? If not I think we should ready a candle light spell to burst in someone's face. Chances are if there is something out there we'll encounter, it'll have night vision, and if it has night vision then a sudden burst of bright light should blind them long enough for us to make our grand escape. Just caught up, don't like the fact we're sucking the dick of the "Pale-men" so hard. I do agree to this guy to an extent. We’re only around them for security and food. The better we make ourselves, the more useful we look, and the more they might respect us as a ‘better goblin’. We should still be ever weary.

But fuck the nest, bro. They kicked us out and see us as a threat. The nest won’t hesitate to kill us if we show up again; if we get the chance, we should establish some revenge, take what we find in the den for ourselves, and maybe once we become truly powerful, start a tribe for ourselves. A smarter, stronger goblin tribe.

I'm pretty sure the style we're going for is optimistically cautious. We're not going to be some bright eyed bushy tailed innocent goblin, but we're not going to be an evil rape-machine either, because we're smart enough to realize that it's not a tenable long-term life plan for us. We'll make friends, figure out what's up with the pale-men and whatnot, ruin those fucks that threw us out, and eventually figure out a way to make a sustainable goblin tribe and race WITHOUT having to rape every girl in sight.

You decide you’ve explored enough. Surely any further and you’d encounter something you can’t just plunder.

You excitedly make your way back to camp with a new incantation in hand. Greeting you is the glare of the half-thing. It smiles. “Make yourself an asset yet?”

You look back, a good mood over your head. “Maybe. You could say worth”

In goblin terms, you are slightly taller than average. However, you appear heavily emaciated. You are a flat-nosed goblin, which appear slightly more human but have wider jaws then their hook-nosed counterparts. To a goblin female, probably 4/10 in your current state. 3/10 to any member of a "Civil" race.

As for female goblins, they do exist. However, how or where you aren't sure. This is the knowledge you have:

New/ small clans reproduce through the gore-pit method. It's the fastest method but produces the weakest goblins. You theorize the reason bigger clans neglect this method is because it makes the clan exceptionally vulnerable to disease spread. This may have something to do with goblins spawned this way looking identical to their parent-goblin, but you cant be sure.

Mid-sized clans supposedly use other humanoid races to produce goblins. This is aid to fruit a stronger and more diverse array of goblins. however the method is fairly slower than the gore-pits

Large-sized clans sometimes use humanoids, though you also suspect female goblins may come into play here somewhere.
>>
>>3810989
3-4/10? Woof. But, on the plus side, goblin females do exist, so that mitigates the issue somewhat.

“Elf witch-words. Incantations like you say” Maybe she knows more about them. Her curious
face animates with a slight brightness. “An incantation?” she takes a look at the paper. She
seems to be studying it. After noticing that you have been staring at her, she makes a sour face.
“You can read this?”
You answer naturally. “Yes. Is something wrong?”
“No. I don’t know how to read elvish.” She says this a suddenly frustrated face.
She hands back the paper. Soon a more mischievous grin pronounces itself on her face.
“Guess you have your quirks, huh? Sis is the best spellcaster around, so your not valuable in
that sense. But a piece of fodder that can translate and fight? At the very least you present
yourself as a convenience.” She pauses for a moment, putting on a thoughtful expression.
“Sorry. This is just odd. It’s hard to imagine a goblin with feelings. I still kinda wish you’d kept

“I’m not particularly smart, but it’s literally my job to notice the details. And the advancement

I would also like for us to start our own tribe but not as barbaric as the current tribes. Usher in an age where goblins can be seen as a race that can be reasoned with but also still dangerous. >you seem to be unable to read
My reading comprehension is fine. There is a disturbing lack of goblin-ness to many votes and statements, although that doesn't include all of them. There are many ways to achieve all of our goals and not all of them involve groveling at the feet of other humanoids, which is what has been chosen so far.

did you miss the part that said we're emaciated? also these people has info
>>
>>3811969
>disturbing lack of goblin-ness
Yes for now because we must gain the favor races to convince them of the elf's transgression against other races such as not allowing them to reach their level of civilization even as much as to blame them for the destruction of past civilization because they refuse to let other races to advance past a certain point. Wether or not these are true is up to the QM but regardless if there lies or not by the time we are found out a sizable empire should already be established
>>
>>3812013
I think you are jumping the gun a bit here. We only meet one elf so far. Transgression against all other races seems a bit to much.
>>
>>3812051
Fair enough gather more information and see what the most viable course of action is to obtain our goals
>>
Lack of goblinness? Last I checked, our entire goal was to, essentially redefine what 'goblinness' WAS, not just be a really strong one. Just going along with the stereotypes of goblins is dull. I'd prefer to put a twist on it.

>>
>>3812257
>>3812191
This is good

Let's anchor ourselves here, at the moment we have no clan. A lone goblin is a weak goblin, smarts or not. Greater predators than we exist. This little party stands as protection so long as we tickle their fancy, and a means of information beyond our small nest's gore pit.

However it is dangerous as it is safe, we are a snake in the bird's nest, yes we could take out a chick or two, but at the moment they could smash us into pieces with no gain on our part.

>Objectives:
1. Survive to see another day
2. Continue to learn about the world around us, so decisions we make are knowledgeable and well thought.
3. Gather power.
4. Goblin power.
5. Plan for future.

Aright. Ya’ll being really needy asses right now, so we might as well get this settled from the get go:

Bone Wits is immensely smart, so much more so that he might even be smarter than other races. He learned two languages AND spellcasting without any mentor whatsoever, and just learned a spell in a few hours what would take a normal person years. This entire ‘getting on the good side of the party’ is meant to give us somewhere to start making strides in our knowledge. Knowledge is power, and power is priceless.

To all the fags who want to just rape everything; we have NO FUCKING RESOURCES. We have NO IDEA how the other races act. We have NO FUCKING HENCHMEN to start a clan with. We have nothing but knowledge and a sword. We need to learn, we need to grow, and adventuring provides both.

And, to the people saying ‘yeah lets rape the elf to make strong goblins’.... are you retarded? QM has literally said that the bigger clans don’t really use rape, because it fucks up the gene pool. It makes eves fast, but such elves are dumb as bricks and even WEAK. We need to find a better way to breed more stronger goblins, maybe even find one of the larger clans and see how they run things.

Seriously, ya’ll with your rape fantasies need to chill the fuck down. The character before us is so much more cunning than he is brutish; that is what we will need to survive.

You're not settling anything and the only people being needy are the ones that refuse to embrace being a goblin in a goblin quest thread. Power and cunning is fine but that can be accomplished on our own - learning to grovel puts us behind in the first place, as even if we advance we still aren't learning how to do so independent of a situation where we are relying on others. >>3812706
As I understand things its:
Gorepit<Rape<Elf rape<?female goblins?
Elves survive significantly longer, and therefore require significantly less raiding. However, due the possibility of superior methods and, as far as we know, historically primitive state of former clans, it may be worthwhile to consider alternatives. Not only because it would improve inter-species relations, but also because it could mean a stronger clan overall. Who knows, maybe in our exploration of our own race we discover ancestral memories of some ancient empire of Gob.

only gorepits until we can get to female goblins? that's untenable.
Do you honestly think we can get enough /volunteer/ broodsows? No. We Cannot. we will not be able to convince female humanoids of any kind to commit to the rigorous life of breeding at such a continuous rate that we could actually maintain a tribe.

Simply put: If we don't rape, we won't be able to grow the tribe enough.

If they don't, we beat their ass raw. I never said no violence ever. I'm just pretty positive that raping is kinda the big thing that tweaks most folks enough to want to slaughter us, so if we don't put the kibosh on that real quick, then WE are the ones that'll get fucked. If we refrain from that, then we have a much much higher chance of sliding under the radar as a 'novelty and perhaps concern, but not nearly as threatening as other things we have to deal with right now.'

This. It'd be nice to learn about goblins but the best knowledge that can help us likely comes from another source: libraries, old tomes, some ruin, sage, etc. Finding a sage that knows goblins well and getting them interested in us - very likely once they hear us talk - would score us most of the knowledge we would need for our plans.
General politics and magic would be useful and relatively easy to get from the group without causing alarm.
>>
>>3812905
>I'm just pretty positive that raping is kinda the big thing that tweaks most folks enough to want to slaughter us, so if we don't put the kibosh on that real quick, then WE are the ones that'll get fucked. or instead of not raping we could just not be caught raping, like don't go raiding villages and towns and dragging women away. instead sneak in, lure away, nab caravans, lone travelers. you know. sneakily rape. we're goblins, not orcs.
>>
>>3812905
People will likely kill us out of hand once we have any kind of nest in the making, even the people we are traveling with now. A base that is remote, hard to approach, easy to defend and has ready access to resources is what we will require to stop most groups from slaughtering us outright.
>>
>>3812925
exactly.
Us not being rapists won't keep us from being viewed as savage rapists. That's what goblins are viewed as. We're from Compton, we might as well be thugs.
>>
>>3812922
You presume we'll never get caught ever. Highly unlikely unless this is a rape power fantasy quest, and it doesn't give off that vibe. What's more, simple logic will cause people to figure it out eventually, when people that are expected somewhere go missing. Not like we can background check everyone we come across. We don't know how important or not important someone might be. It really doesn't take more than one inquiry before we're suddenly the subject of a quest. And, as repeatedly stated, we are rather weak and will remain that way relative to a good portion of adventurers for quite some time for various reasons, regardless of advanced learning capabilities.
>>

I agree were gonna have to rape if we want to advance. As long as we do it in secret I think it will be fine. Though I disagree on the method to aquire females. Instead of constantly kidnapping we capture some elf males and females instead of capturing more females we just breed the male and female elves when need be.

She was obviously expecting something else because all you receive is a blank stare for a while. “Politics. Countries. What could a little goblin like you want with current events?” She sounded baffled. “That sort of stuff isn’t the kind of thing you need a professional for, but…”
She mumbles to herself.

“I don’t know. I can talk to you about what's goin-on in the world if you’re really that interested. But… it’s gonna cost you?” You can see she’s trying to be cheeky and ask for a price but doesn't quite know if the information you're asking for is even worth the trouble.

You and the half-thing talk through the night. She talked of many things to note. You are currently within the borders of The Kingdom. The country of Leonhart. Their crest is that of a lion fighting a stag. Similarly organized are their politics, with the “Lions” Believing in expanding cities, optimized agriculture, and Iron-fisted rule, and the “Stags” Believing in a more rural society which cradles agriculture and wishes for less interference. The kingship is commonly described as the Lions, while the nobles the Stags. There is a lot of turmoil due to the country being in a time of war: The king is attempting to expand military power but the Stags are reluctant to supply troops.

The Kingdom is the country that you have to most detail on. Likely because half-thing is a native here.

Other political information she provides is as follows.

The Kingdom is currently at war with Illidrad, The nation of the Elves.

Illidrad is currently allied with the desert nation of Rez.

All three of these countries are dealing with what is known as the “Demi-human Coalition” Which is attempting an invasion from the south-East.

And to the far west is the Theocracy. It sometimes trades with Leonhart, but it is primarily isolationist.

It’s obvious she lacks a lot of information. But what she has given you has provided a start.

And with that, the sun has risen.

I know what you're thinking, "uhg, more dealing with these asshats?" But let me ask you this, "honestly speaking, what are a goblin's chances going it alone?" If your answer is "likely to be slain by a single, well fed kobold" then you'd be pretty darn close.

True, but we don't exactly have much room to breathe. We will constantly be on their good side, and as soon as we get in a city somebody is going to be like 'my parents died from goblin, die'. You really think that will happen before our goblins natural lifespan ends? We need to hit the ground running and learn as much about crafting, survival, and magic as we can as fast as we can, wherever we can. If that’s separate from this group, then so be it. But those skills are what is necessary for us to create a goblin empire that can rape elves and pale skins more efficiently than any other goblin ever before us.
>>
>>3813346
I'm hoping the elf will teach us her DEEPEST LORE. Who knows what kind of knowledge her ancient mind may hold (because elves live for a long time).

>>3813398
We're slowly but surely building a decent rapport with this group. If we're buddy buddy with them enough then they might back us up if someone tries to give us shit.

>>3813485
Chances are we're gonna stumble upon some deep deep lore if we hang around adventures. They have a tendanecy to stick their noses in places that don't belong such as dungeons, crypts, and caves. The way i see it the pros outweigh the cons. We get to learn as we go and we get protection. Only down side is having to deal with their quirks and shenanigans.

I'ts time to go boys. Ruins, forest a probably an horrible death

You decide it best to wait and leave with the group.

One by one, each member of the party rises up for breakfast. Eggs, but cooked. It looked first hand like a waste of time, but you consider that there may be significant benefits to cooking food. You aren't sure what, but it seems that any races which eat cooked food seem to be the smarter and better-off kind. You make a footnote in your mind to investigate this further later.

The only one to give you any more then a passing glance is Ryn, who begins glaring at you with glossed eyes as though he is in deep thought.

The group packs up there supplies surprisingly quickly. Tents away and in rolls which they strap to their backs. Cooking supplies is stored similarly. Efficient. When getting ready to step off, the obvious happens. Hess glares at you as you attempt to follow. And soon enough, as the group makes their way down the corridors attempting to find an exit, she stops them all.

"What is this? Are we just going to caravan monsters around now? Feed them like our own? Why is it following, and why am I the only one to have an issue?" She looks confusingly around at her team-mates.

The knife half-thing speaks up at this. "I determined in my own time that he could be useful. Especially for a goblin, he has good cognitive abilities. I don't know how good, but enough that I don't think we have to treat him like a wild dog. At the very least he can serve as fodder. and at most... He might become a significant tactical advantage somehow, is all i'm saying. This ain't a monster caravan. He will be paying his stay."

The words from the half-ling seem to only serve to anger Hess. With her hood off, you could easily see the tips of her ears growing red, and the veins on her temple bulge with blood. But once she looked like she was about to say something, Ryn placed his hand on her shoulder. She very quickly calmed down when this happened.

"Maybe. It better show it's worth though. Quickly too." She pauses for a moment. "Feed a wild dog and it will follow. If it finds you without food, you might become the food. I just don't want this goblin to somehow lull us into danger."

tower-man looks you over and scuffs at the idea. "You're being a bit paranoid dear. Now I understand why, but can we at-least abstain from this talk till we get the bounty for this ugly-ass rot?" He holds up the large green head he was previously caring on his shoulder. Flies buzz around it.

The half-thing had informed you during your conversations that the head was of a troll. The specific type was a dungeoness, a female troll who underwent dwarfism due to living in an enclosed area, usually a dungeon. They are fast, strong, but very stupid. Not even capable of making rudimentary traps.

Hess turns around in response, and continues wordlessly.

>But that… that was an incantation. He spoke that spell into life. Which means…” The girl’s giddy attitude is broken by the sight of her comrade. Hess is glaring fiercely at you.
>“Who taught you Elven?” She says this through with a piercing voice.

I'm pretty sure that's because she realized that taking the pages wouldn't matter, since we've memorized them, after all, we cast Candlelight without reading it, and I don't think she yet knows about the page we just found.
So no, i don't think that's ample reason to not suspect she'd keep us from profaning her language.

You find that a presence is watching you and the group. An eerie feeling you get when being spied on. You obviously aren't the only one to notice either, seeing as how the dagger half-thing's eyes are darting everywhere attempting to locate something.

Through the tight corridors, you hear the howls of wolves. Shadows on the sunlit walls begin to dart from meters behind the group. And almost on command, they form a protective circle that you just-so-happen to awkwardly fit in.

One by one, large hounds begin to enter into the corridor from both directions. The group already seems to have a sour mood, so they enter into combat without a word. The first dog that lunges is cut down by a thrown blade.

A mass of bodies begins to charge from both sides. You can't concern yourself with the book carrier, Hess, and Ryn on the other side of the circle though. You are shocked to be staring down the jaws of countless predators. Much less a fighter in your old clan, and far less a hunter. One of the dogs pounces at you lethally, obviously aiming it's jaws towards your skull.

You decide to check up on the others of the group. Turning around, you find that they’ve almost finished off all the pack. Though, they still look engaged enough to have not seen your blunder.

Some of the dogs have arows protruding from their vital spots. Some Have bisecting slashes. And some only remain as chard piles of bone. No other
teammates appear to be scratched, and they seem to want to continue on as quickly as possible. Hess begins walking as soon as the last hound is ended. The rest of the party soon follows suit.

You decide that you should scavenge what presents itself in the area. You'll catch up with the party later.

You watch the party round the corner. The only thing you receive from them before they leave is a glance and nod from tower-man.

You skin one of the dogs with your rusty blade. You have never skinned an animal before, but you've seen it done. For your first time, it surly went well.

You have obtained a {Shoddy Raw Dungeon-hound Pelt}

The raw hide over your shoulder, you begin looking over the animals for any other useful parts. Their teeth aren't particularly good, nor are most their bones. The skull is interesting, but you aren't sure if you'll have hands for it after looking through the nearby rooms.

You emerge into the side-rooms of the corridor and scavenge for anything interesting. In one of the rooms, you find Skeleton which can't have been here for long. The cloths are in reasonable condition, and there is still some dried connective tissue on the bones. It has a satchel which looks untouched, and in it's skeletal hand lay a small mirror. The sun of morning which ricochets through the corridors shines off it brightly.

You take the {Finely Inscribed Hand-Mirror}

You naturally take all else too. In the {Satchel} is

1 {Damaged Map}
5 {Shiny Coin}
1 {Vial of Iron-filings}
1 {Old Stone Cup}

Interesting. This is a somewhat interesting hall.

After searching the other rooms, you come up with

2 {Odd Coins}
1 {Damaged Page of Elven witch-words}

You walk back into the main hall. Elven witch-words you had, along with the letter and book that were loosely held on your person now take up the space in your {Satchel}. It is now full.

You still have nothing on in terms of actual clothes. Taking the skeletons cloths would give you some protection from the elements, but their being too large would make your speed and physical combat prowess lesser.

You bring out the {Damaged Map} and take a look at it. Much of it is unlabeled, and what is labeled certainly isn't in a language you understand. The map itself looks very old. It appears to be a random assortment of rooms at first glance, but after noticing landmark signs that looked familiar, it looks like it is a map of the ruins. You can even trace the map up till the gorge, but past that and the map fades from water-damage and age.

There appear to be access points to deeper layers of the ruins on this map. Odd-looking chambers can be found in the floor below. However, The map of your area is large so it's likely that exploration will take a while.

You strip the skeleton of it's clothes, looking to modify them. The top is some kind of tunic, while it's bottom looks to simply be a pair of string-adjustable pants.

Closer inspection yields that both pieces of clothing can easily be modified for use. First, You cut off the extra sleeve-length of the tunic so that it fits you short-sleeved. Then, you shorten the pant legs to just above your knees. This allows for a full range of motion on your part.

Lastly, you take the skeletons belt and secure the draping fabric of the tunic.

The skeletons shoes are far too large to be used. So you continue on barefoot.

Next, you decide to

You decide that enough time has been spent exploring on your own. For now you settle on catching up to the party.

The patter of your feet echos through the sun-lit corrodes of the ruin as you make your way through. After much time, you arrive at a wide set of stares which open up into the forest. The ground near the entry of the ruin is strewn with withered and aged stone. It looks like this exit used to be covered by a building, but the only thing remaining of its existence is a stone foundation which has merged with the moss and trees.

Through the forest canopy, you spot the sun a quarter-way risen.

Only in this relaxing with a calmed mind do you finally feel the wave of exhaustion. Two days of no sleep has left you ready to collapse. The cool breeze of the forest doesn't help.

You examine the forest for any signs of the party. And sure enough, sitting on the exposed root of a nearby tree is the knife half-thing. She smiles, a mix of her predatory nature and annoyance.

"You took long, didn't you?" She says, her hand on her belt and knife-sheath.

"Found things. Map, pelt, and cloths." You spin around, showing off all the new things you've acquired.

You look around, noticing nobody else is present. You glance at her, confused. "Where are others?"

She looks slightly relieved. "They headed on". She flips her knife, which she was holding in her right hand, back into it's sheath.

"We should catch up though. It'll be noon before we get back."

She begins walking through the forest. You follow lazily, exhaustion seeping through your whole body.

She looks back at you and sighs. "We are stopping at a small village before we head to get the bounty. Mostly because the food there is cheaper. You'll need to look presentable for that, so take these."

She hands you a {Small Cowl}
fitted to a half-thing, it isn't anything but perfect for your size.

Next, she hands you a {Rogue's mask}

A mask made from some kind of chalky material. It's very light. It is mainly just plane white, with some black swirls decoratively painted on. Though not fit completely, it works

"Isn't odd for a rogue to have on a hood and mask, so you shouldn't stand out much."

At this, you both continue walking.

You walk behind the path she forges through the forest and underbrush. Soon however, your path opens up into a beaten trail. After a few minutes of walking, you decide to spark up a conversation. Mainly asking wishing to ask about more context for goblins and perhaps about the politics of the county you occupy.

"What are goblins history? Where do they fit in everything? Why are party so careful around single goblin?"

Questions such as these are asked. The conversation is lengthy and you two have a very interesting back-and-forth. The information you receive is as follows.

1. Goblins have no history. No nest has ever gotten large enough or civil enough to care for written history. And the only verbal passage in goblin history are ones of which you already knew. Memes which are used for survival. Elves may have some history on goblins as they are the most long-lived of races, so historical events are far less-often lost in their books and minds.

2. Humans , as the pale-men are known, Don't have any in-detail history on goblins. But there are many books on their biology, behavior, and some notable goblin-nests recorded in books within libraries that can be found in some choice cities. From what she says, humans are remarkably fond of finding out new things. And due to goblin's particularly odd biology and reproduction methods, scholars of old took interest in them.

3. Most goblin tribes are seen as infectious pests. One goblin has the potential to start a super nest. Though individually weak, their numbers grow exceptionally quickly in areas abundant in food. With the potential for 1 generation grown and sexually mature every 2 weeks (She is referring to the gore-pit method). That is why a single goblin can be seen as such a threat. Goblins are usually a kill-on-sight kind of monster, especially near settlements.

4. Goblins are used as fodder-soldier in the armies of the Demi-human coalition. Massive amounts are flooded into enemy lines, slaughtered by the hundreds, all to soften up infantry before big-hitters like ogres and trolls are sent in.

You arrive at the village before you can ask much of anything about politics. Still though, you leave the conversation somewhat satisfied. Like an itch has been scratched.

The village is surrounded by significant amounts of farmland, which you and her walk through before reaching a gate and walls made of wood. The walls are made of many dried tree-trunks which are bound together with leathers, mud, and rope. They look to surround the residence and shops of the village.

At the gate sits a small middle-aged human whom is reading a book He looks up from his book with the half-thing's approach. His hair is in the shape of a circlet, which wraps around a bald center. peculiar.

"Toll please. 4 silver." He says in a monotone voice.

She fishes around in in her pants for 8 silver. "Price has gone up, hasn't it?" She says in annoyed voice.

She hands him the silver, which triggers his response. "Crown's gotta pay for the war somehow. Nobles are getting stingier and stingier." He leans back in his chair and settles back to reading. You and half-thing walk through the gate and into the small village. Nobody bats an eyes towards you with both your cowl and mask on.

Coming upon a small market-place, she looks about for the party. Spotting two of them at a food stand, she moves towards them. Hess and Ryn appear to be haggling with the stand-owner, a young, full, and muscular women. Her father sits behind her in a chair, seemingly observing her actions.

Upon half-thing's approach though, Ryn turns around while Hess continues pursuit of goods.

"How'd it go? Did it give you any trouble?" Ryn had a somewhat cheery expression.

"No. Actually he came out close to noon looking for us. So no trouble needed. He's right here actually." She motions to you.

His expression goes blank for a moment before pulling on a poorly made facade of happy-suprise.

"Nice!" he takes a moment to think, placing on an exaggeratedly grim expression. "Make sure he doesn't get into any trouble. If he's found out, it could mean our asses..." He then brightens up once again."Cardy and pops are looking in the smith's shop. They didn't expect to find anything great, just interested in looking around. We should be leaving soon enough, probably within two hours time. So don't get into any trouble." With that, turns back around towards the stand.

Half-thing turns back to you. "This place is kinda boring. Seen everything already. So I guess I'll be escorting you around till It's time to go." She waits for your response.

>Go to the smith's shop. Cardy and pops could be interesting. The items there could be even more so.

You look at her as she waits for a response. Your vision and hands are shaky from sleep deprivation, and the burns on your chest don't help. You settle on asking her a quick question, before scrapping the rest of your time here to sleep.

"What did Ryn mean with 'Trouble'?" You ask in an inquisitive expression.

She is silent for a moment, then sighs. "I'm sure you can guess. But here, Ill spell it out for you. Goblins are very dangerous. We'd be deplorable to leave one in a newly cleared out dungeon. A space lacking predators and ample in prey, which lays a ways from any significant source of civilization. That's asking for an infestation." She looks at you with a fake sympathetic gaze, but soon realizes such a thing isn't really worth the effort. The next of her words leave a blank face.

"I was going to track you down and kill you if you didn't show up by noon. I was supposed to end you right away, but I'd resolved to give you a little time, orders or not." She examines your face. You're too tired to really react with anything. To give her a little-bit to go off of though, you try to make a pained expression. You think you did semi-well at this.

"Not for your sake, though. Sis would have been sad with something so unique and interesting going to waste. So it was for her sake." She pauses.

"Don't take it personally. It would have been irresponsible on our part to have done anything else."

With that, you sit down at a nearby table outside a building labeled "Bakery"

Truly, such a thing doesn't surprise you. In fact, It kind of pains you that you hadn't suspected such a consequence would have arise if you stayed behind. These humans seem to be very wary of you. And maybe they should be. As you consider your future plans, a clan does seem to be a reoccurring point. But it still jabs your heart to hear of these people so effortlessly deciding to end you.

" Very tired. I am very tired. I will sleep till time." You say to the half-thing.

She simply nods in response and sits down across from you.

Before you lull off, you undue the clasp on your satchel and pull out the {Damaged Page of Elven witch-words}.

Unfolding the paper, you examine the damage.

It looks like there are large blots of old and dried mold on the page, and a large section of it is unreadable. Recovering the incantation will require help from someone more knowledgeable.

You lay down your head on the table before you. You can't help but sigh as you finally rest. The sun bothers you some, but soon you are whisked to sleep.

...

You wake up to a hand on your shoulder. The Tower-man. He looks at you, and you half-eyed back at him.

"We are leaving now." He stares at you with an odd gentle impatience.

You get up and Follow him to the gate. You aren't sure how long two hours is but it certainly isn't long enough. You still feel very sleepy, but the nap was enough to restore you from the verge of collapsing. The sun is 3/4ths through the sky.

In a better state, you rebuke yourself for not admiring human ingenuity more. the way they utilize the woods to build there structures instead of building in caves. Using these methods could be useful for future endeavors.

Tower-man sees your weariness and looks bothered for a moment. "I can carry you if you'd prefer to sleep."

You accept his proposal reluctantly. You’d prefer to stay on guard, but this sleep deprivation could prove far more then just annoyance if it continues.

“Yes. Thank you”

He hoists you up and begins walking once again. Soon, you fall into a deep sleep.

You open your eyes groggily. Your shoulders are being shaken.

“Wake up. It’s sundown.” Tower-man’s voice is the first that meets you as you emerge from sleep. There he, standing above you. The sky is a deep fading purple. You never used to go outside, so the sight is awe-inspiring to you.

However, your company is not so forgiving to such ventures as admiring the environment, so you quickly rise to your feet. You feel far better after rest. Your body, which felt lazy and useless before, Has had a significant weight lifted off of it.

The smell of stew is rich in the air, and you see that the book half-thing is cooking on a hastily-built fire. Your stomach growls. However, this bothers you little. You weren't a hunter in your previous tribe, nor a combatant, so you often got fed the least… Usually meaning only one meal every 2-3 days. That’s why your body appears as gaunt as a skeleton with a table-cloth draped over it.

You had a question pop into your mind in your sleep. Surely there are records somewhere that humans know goblins have night vision. But do these people know of that? You think of a way to ask without providing suspicion. Then you find the most familiar of all the party and ask.

“Do Elves have best vision? Hess was very quick to spot me at other place” You are trying to increase you're understanding of the common language, and you think you’ve become far better even given the limited amount of time you've been in contact with other speakers.

Knife half-thing seemed to not be expecting the random question. “Yes, actually. Their vision is the most superb of all the Humanic beings. I’d like to think I top their average personally, however.” She grins to herself in a gloating manner.

“Can they even see in the dark?” You ask curiously.

“They can see better in the dark, but they don't have dark-vision. Only animals which live perpetually or often in the dark have dark-vision. Dwarves, when our country’s had contact with each other, supposedly had a low-potency form of dark-vision. Goblins like yourself for instance, which call deep caverns home, should be able to see in the dark. If your further curious about the subject, however, I’d ask sis.”

You notice her language towards you is slowly becoming more toned-down then when you first tried talking to her. You hope that is a slow build of respect or a slow degrade in her fear of you.

So sis, presumably the one Ryn meant when he said “Cardy”, is exceptionally knowledgeable. From the sounds of it, perhaps even a scholar of some sort. Interesting.

Gathering as much knowledge from as many as we can before we may need to take our leave will be useful. As well as gaining enough emotional connection to make them hesitate long enough should one make the call for our head.

Soon we should start prepping our kit, and formulate a plan of escape from this party should the need arise. Let's list each member, potential skillset/class, means of evasion/disabling, and means of escape. Hopefully we can figure out a rough location with our map, perhaps a good place to flee to.

Ok this shit is starting to get on my nerves, they’re putting restrictions on our movement? Why are we putting up with these guys again? We got a cloak and mask, and enough information. I say we ask for help with the page of spells, and bounce during the night.

we could tell them about our old nest, and use that to get away from them while they're busy destroying it, we get revenge and can go our own way with less chance of them killing us for trying to escape.
but for now just stay with them for survival.
we gotta remember they will only let us stay as long as we are useful, so we might wanna think of some ways to be useful.
since they kinda know we "should have" dark vision we could help be night watch if needed. during day towerguy could carry us if we need to sleep a bit.

Doesn't even have to be that difficult. Pitfall traps. Remember, we don't even have to kill anyone, just be able to get away fast enough that we don't get caught and can't be tracked. We are the only one with dark sight. A good distraction would be a great time to slip away through a premade route filled with stuff to slow down any chasers.

Ankle snares, while running through the forest, simply say its to catch deer. Same concept. When the snare activated, momentum makes you smack the ground, set a punji stake center mass.

Speaking of snares, learning how to passively hunt and construct traps would give us the minimum we need to survive and create a small tribe of goblins for our use, using gore pits on medium sized game.
That means learning how to construct and place pit traps as well as basic reading of tracks/understanding of prey patterns. Just those skills would allow us to not rely on anyone else as we find the other things we need.
>>
>>3817675
or at least enough to hunt and make traps
>>
>>3817675
dont think we can ever get them to trust us more than the elf when a single gob can make a nest.
>>
>>3817668
>they are monitoring us
We'll just have to wait for a prime opportunity to ditch them before the elf snaps or they turn us into coin. A large swift river or some other impassable terrain that ruins tracking, or perhaps learning an invisible type spell like I'd rather we learned earlier. Besides a map of settlements around and any possible gains tagging along in dungeons for loot, there isn't a ton of reward (that we can't gain else-wise) versus risk to stay with this group.
>>
>>3817691
yeah i also wanted the hiding spell back then.
we'll just have to chill with this group and gather more info.

We need to either give these fuckers the slip and leave, or convince them we don’t need to be watched. We’re not going to get much done if we just sit around with our limp dicks in our hand waiting for them to trust us enough to allow us to bulk up and set traps.

You make your way towards Cardy who is stirring the stew. She is sitting on a log that the party must have rolled over to use as a bench. When she spots you walking toward her, she gains a flustered expression and quickly closes an open book next to her. It is leather-bound and has no title.

This is extremely suspicious but you leave it alone. “Knife half-thing says you are smart. I have a request.”

You look into your satchel to retrieve the {Damaged Page of Elven witch-words}

Your shocked to find that everything in your bag is in a different spot. It looks like someone took everything out and then carefully placed it back inside. Nothing seems to be where you left it. You make a note of this, find the page, and then close your satchel.

“Witch-words are damaged. I’d like help in restoration.”

She looks on at your outstretched hand for a minute.

“I think you meant halfling, right? And my sisters name is Haven.” She pauses to look you over inquisitively. “Sure. I’m up to watch past midnight, so maybe then. Thank you for coming to me.” Her face shows curiosity.”

You respond. “I thought shifts took all dark?”

She laughs in response. “Only when it’s sis’s turn. She has a far easier time running on no sleep than anybody else here.”

And with that, she taps the wooden stir spoon on the pot and pulls out wooden bowls from a bag behind her. “Time to eat everyone!”

Everyone sits down on the log which Cardy had claimed or sat on the ground. You happen to be one of the latter, along with tower-man.

You ponder everyone before you. You don’t wish to be her forever. These people before you have to go, either by you becoming separated from them or their deaths. You take the count and condition of all present.

Tower-man, also referred to as pops. Human. He wields a large one-handed sword. His other hand, to your knowledge, is not used. You can’t find a shield on his person. His armor is all-metal and looks exquisite if not for the chips in his right pauldron. But an odd sight that does catch your eye is a book that hangs from his belt. Possibly religious. The cover isn’t in a language you can read.

Hess. Elf. Wields a bow and is garbed in light cloth armor.

Ryn. Human. Has a one-handed sword to each hip. Light hide armor.

Haven. Half-th… Halfling. Wields a dagger at her hip and has many throwing daggers within her cowl. garbed in light cloth.

And lastly, Cardy. Halfling. Likely a wizard of some kind. She has many arcane books handing from her belt, draped with chains. Some have covers read in elven and some don’t, though you haven’t been able to get a very detailed look. At the very least, she has a spell that can turn an enemy to ash. Likely through fire, judging from the state of the hounds which you found the left-overs of in the ruins.

With inventory finished in your head, you realize that there is no talk over the eating. Everyone is silent. You can’t help but feel it is your presence which is causing this.

Mostly because I don't see it as asshatery. They're not beating us and forcing us to do manual labor or anything particularly oppressive. They have no reason to trust us since goblins have always been either brutal horrible monsters, or clever horrible monsters. Finding a goblin that ISN'T a horrible monster is a first, so it makes logical sense to me that they'd keep a very careful eye on it to make sure they aren't getting long conned. The worst they're doing is shittalking, but by and large they've been extremely passive on the whole to me.

>The worst they're doing is shittalking, but by and large they've been extremely passive on the whole to me.
They're going to sell us to someone, I guarantee it. It's why everyone is awkward and Cardy was flustered when we approached. They're hoping to keep us compliant while they find someone who will buy us; adventurers whose life revolves around making coin hunting monsters won't see us as anything else.

You look over toward tower-man. "Tower-man, your book full of witch-words, yes? How else you so big?"

He has a blank face for a moment, not quite registering what you said. suddenly however, with a face of recognition he lets out a hardy laugh.

"Flattering name you've given me! But my name is Arlough. People here tend to just call me 'pops' though. don't see why you can't do the same." He picks up the book at his belt. "This book is The Bible of Archemore, Humanities God of Light! It holds my faith and commands."

He seems to suddenly be jovial.

"As for my stature, well thank you boy. I don't know about my height, but I got my muscle much like everyone else does. By eating lots of meat and constant training!"

He flexes his right arm and places his left hand to his bicep. An audible clang is heard as his metal gauntlet meets his metal sleeve.

"Bullshit! I eat a tone of meat and practice more then you do. Yet i'm not nearly as big!" You can hear the insecurity in Ryn's voice.

"Ya don't practice at-all boy. You're too busy gazing at yer lightweight partner for that. Withering away practically. Enough so that I bet she could even best you in a fistfight!" He laughs again, joined with the laughs of a few other group members including Hess. She flexes, making the same pose Tower-man. She looks like she has suddenly underwent a wave of relaxation, as before she was staring holes into her stew.

From here they continue there talks like normal till stew is gone. No useful information is gained from their conversations.

You sit on the ground across from Arlough. You wait till all the others have submerged themselves into their tents. Then you ask away.

"What is bible and what is Archemore?"

He brings up the bible hanging at his belt. "It's not something a goblin should be too interested in. It's not anything anyone who isn't human should be interested in." He smiles gently toward the books cover.

"I'm interested. If insist, then fine. But I am definitely interest." You say with a light confidence.

He brings his eyes up and half-heartedly smiles at you. "Archemore is the Human god of light. A god of light exclusive to humans. Once an ancient hero who fought the demon incursions, He rose to god-hood after releasing thousands of humans who were being held captive in hell. I believe it was somewhere around 3/4ths of humanity which had been either killed or enslaved by the demons. But he brought the light back. He fought and found them in the dark. He dragged them out of the cave and into the sun." His face shows great compassion, he even looks as though he might cry.

"This bible is a composite of his teachings. The teachings from the god of light. How to act. What to do in certain situations. Ways to call upon his power." He places his hand on the cover affectionately.

You feel slightly uncomfortable by this mans outburst of emotion... But there is some useful information again. What are the nature of these gods? Why don't goblins have any gods? But you settle on asking a question that is more pressing.

"Where are we going? Where is party heading?"

You watch him casually look up from his bible. "We are going to the city of Loriff. There we can turn in that decomposing troll head and get some gold." A flinch in his visage appears. His casual expressions shows a hint of guilt underneath? You discount this idea. You think of yourself as intuitive, but it's likely you haven't been around humans long enough to get their expressions.

Loriff huh? "What is Loriff like?"

"It's a city like most others. Except this one happens to be the home of Vandal, The countries largest Magic University. In-fact, Cardy hopes to be admitted there before too long. That's why she is adventuring. To pay for the expenses."
He has the same expression on as before."

You spot something on the log next to him. It appears to be Cardy's notebook. Looks like she forgot to put it up after all the conversation's had ended.

Arlough is simply caressing the cover of his bible.

"Why don't goblins have any god's?"

He smiles for a moment, amused. Upon seeing your questioning expression, however, he stiffens up.

"I don't know..."

He thinks for a moment.

"God's are people who did deeds so great that they ascended from this earth. They inspired such belief that the faith of those who believed elevated them to another plane"

You understand now. "Which means that the reason there is no goblin god is that there has never been a great goblin." You say, concluding his statement for him.

How has there never been a great goblin before? That can't be... You know your race is lowly, especially in the eyes of the more intelligent, but for there to not be a single goblin god... if what Arlough says is true, the implications are a stab to your pride.

Arlough stands up. "Sorry for the drop in mood. I have to relieve myself. One moment."

He walks 20 paces into the woods, still easily within sight, and pulls a bowl of metal from his groin area.

'Never been a great goblin'

You pull out the {Rusted Shortsword} and {Shoddy Raw Dungeon-hound Pelt}.

You begin to scrape off all of the membrane and flesh on the underside of the pelt. Arlough returns after relieving himself.

While working, you contemplate the meaning of that statement. 'Never been a great goblin.'

Goblins are a persecuted group, no matter how you look at the world. Though one can try and justify the persecution, goblins are thinking. They have a language, albeit a simple one. But they are used as fodder for wars and exterminated as pests.

You already have the intent to start a clan at some point... But what of something larger? Do other goblins have potential like you, if given the chance?

All you know is that the violence and viscera goblins are subject to needs to end... somehow. It pains you to see your race suffer, even if you would consider them blockheads by your own standards...

So then what do you need to know to make this happen? Information on goblins? Perhaps... more power? Maybe magic? All of it is so broad that it feels like the points themselves are end-games of their own.

...

With Arlough's help, you manage to set up the hound pelt on a small tanning rack. It can be transported in the day, and Arlough himself offered to carry it.

Soon enough, however, Arlough crawls into his tent and is replaced by Cardy. As she begins to sit-down, she silently reprimands herself. You can't quite tell why.

She seems to be waiting expectantly for something.

You have many things to consider. But first-things first.

You get up and retrieve the witch-words from your bag. "Here"

You hand her the words, and she adjusts her glasses as she tries to read.

"I don't know what it says but I have a spell similar to this one in effect in my own spell-book! I don't know it though"

She grabs one of the many hanging books around her and begins to look through it. She comes upon the spell in the book.

Her face pales slightly, but then returns to color. She cheerfully rings out the spells name. You ask to view the page. She looks hesitant at first, but then she shows you. Not long enough for you to read the whole page, but long enough for you to see the Elven phrase. The spell is known as

>{Divination}- Allows you to follow or view a target entity or object. The entity or object you divination must be acquainted with you.

>{Blind}- Target creature becomes unable to see temporarily. Does not work against magical vision.

>{Mimicry}- Impersonate a sound you've heard before. It is limited by the volume of your own voice.

Oooh what to chose.

Hmmm not so sure about this one
>Blind
Useful, this will help us when trying to escape.
>Mimicry
Lots of uses, this will give us the most bang for our buck, I say we learn this one.
>>
>>3818407
Analyse the benefits of each spell

>{Divination}- Would allow us to view any entity or object "Acquainted with us" This would bolster our ability to acquire knowledge while protecting us from harm by being out of sight.

>{Blind}- This disables something from seeing us, could be very useful by disabling single targets, splitting a groups attention, or escape.

>{Mimicry}- Allows for deception, arguably the weakest choice in my opinion. It's just sounds, it relies upon any combatants to believe it.

>My vote is split between Divination or Blind.

Tsk tsk, how unimaginative of you anon. Someone is fighting using spells, yoink. That’s my spell now. Someone is chasing us, we could mimic the sound of our feet and throw it in another direction. We could impersonate people. If we want to store a piece of information, all we gotta do is mimic the sound of us repeating that information out loud. We could hunt much better with it. So many uses, think outside the box anon.
>>
>>3818464
Learn a spell and log our surroundings so we can give the slip to these guys.
>>
>>3818488
>my vote is between Divination or Mimicry
>>
>>3818488
Hmmm... those are good utilities.

Thus far...

>Divination- very little active combat use, "soft" magic at the moment, good for info gathering, spying, tracking, and sneaking perhaps.
>Blind- arguably the "hardest" of the magic choices, to blind an opponent would be immediate hostilities, but can allow for sneaking, single combat, escape, and disabling.

>Mimicry- Utility, no direct physical effect (unless the spell steal is possible) High usage with creativity.
>>3818429
>>3818407

Mimicry for my vote as of now, hopefully the other two will return at another point.
>>
>>3818407

{Mimicry}. Interesting. Such a spell could prove very useful.

You will have to practice the Phrasing, but the letters are burned into your mind. like every other spell on your person.

"That is a powerful spell. 3rd tier, I believe. Don't be too frustrated that you won't get to learn it. If you were to cast it without the capabilities or experience you could hurt yourself." She worryingly puts away the book.

She doesn't know you have the spell. Huh. She allowed you to view the incantation, so why is she acting clueless?

...

You pull your sword and begin training in the woods nearby. While training, however, your mind is wandering. You can't help but make an escape plan.
There is a hauler on the left side of the trail which extends 50 paces down and then climbs back up. On the right is just flat woods which extend in an upward slant, like there is some unseen hill in the distance.

A flash catches your eye from within the woods. You examine your surroundings carefully...

There it is! A pair of eyes sitting far back into the darkness. Too far for your night-vision to reach. But whatever it is, there is definitely campfire light reflecting back from it.

You look back towards Cardy. She is attempting to watch you from the log but is nodding off. How irresponsible.

I believe it more than likely that if we could find the Magic Academy, we would be accepted, especially given the new revelation of our insta-learning.

Kill Cardy by smashing a large rock over her sleeping head.
Take her books.
Drop a number of your cumbersome items along fake trail.

We have all that we could possibly need at this stage and we're wrested enough to flee nonstop for days if we have too.

Our primary goal should be losing them, getting to the wilds, finding ourselves a dank enough place, using whatever knewly acquired magic we have from thise books to hunt and make a nice gore pit.

We don't need a clan right now. A simple squad of 10 gobos will do nicely for our purposes.

It's time to be the first God of Goblins.
>>
>>3818884
If not this, then yes, go ahead and notify Cardy but I highly suggest we do this at some point or another.

There's little else we can gain by staying among these people and its fairly unlikely that we'll get the chance to kill all of them at once and take our time pilfering and eating their corpses.
>>
Or we could, you know, not be a murdery asshole? I’m really not seeing the impetus to kill everyone. Why do we feel the need to do what all other goblins do? We aren’t all other goblins. We are smart and question shit, we can be better than gore-pits and wanton slaughter.

I personally find the idea of rocking Cardy at this moment displeasing, we must gather more info about the current situation before such rash acts. Cast candle light to identify the creature. The thing with eyes may be worse than our current company, and may find us a more appetizing meal.

>>
>>3818928
The impetus to kill a group of people that see us, at best, as a disposable trained rat and would have no trouble at all ending us is not an unreasonable one.

The gore pit is a biological advantage and while it is distasteful, an intelligent goblin that seeks the preeminence of his race would have no qualms using them in desperate times.

In case you haven't noticed.
These are desperate times.

A snall group of loyal weak goblins from a gore pit is more than adequate and MUCH safer to deal with thab a group of mercenaries with a fanatical elf bitch who lets be clear here, can kill us on a whim and not a single one of them will give her more than a cross word for it.

Simply, put we kill them because we've incidentally become their god damned serf in exchange for the privelage of knowing that our, potrntially biologically superior race, is used as meat shields and routinely eradicated all over the world.

We kill be them because THEY AREN'T OUR FRIENDS and they never will be.

They are circumstantially beneficial to us at best and a mortal threat on average.
>>
>>3819065
It’s probably a combination of both. Fast gestation periods combined with fast maturation is indicative of a short lifespan. Combined with goblins natural stupidity and other races aversion to goblins this leads to a very short observable life span for any “civilized” experts and researchers on goblins.
>>
>>3819034
This is the only way forward.
We've learned enough to know where we ought to stand.
All other information is tactical.
>>
>>3819074
This. We need to escape them, maybe after a bit more learning and training, and then fuck off to an isolated area where we can create a gore pit to get our first minions.
>>
>>3819083
Agreed.
I do suppose that since we don't know to whom the eyes belong, it wouldn't be the wisest thing to smash her head in with a rock while those eyes are watching.

Do you think it might be better to make an escape inside of a city, instead?
Not sure how extensive their sewers would be but if they're large enough they'd be perfect.
>>

We're like a few months old right? Let's take up painting / sketching in our spare time. Of course we'll try to making it look good but the point im try to get is, the next time someone goes through our things they'll notice the adorable terrible made crayon sketches made by the young gobbo.
I'm just trying to see if we can make them dissaciociate us further from our primative kind.

Oh fuxk I just realized we didnt take a chunk out of wolf. We need to eat more for the sick gains guys. We shod kill more random woodland animals with ranged fire spells. Meal on the go gnome-sayian?

>1/2 {Blood-stained Cookbook}
I only realized now we had a cookbook. I really thing we should make use of it and help out during the next breakfast.

Do you guys think reading out loud a book could help improve Bone Wit's English and elvish?

>The skeletons shoes are far too large to be used. So you continue on barefoot.
So we havent been found out just yet, it maybe we should take some more precautions measure to ensure that remains the case? Customers shoes are out the question so what if we wrap our feet in cloth then wear sandles or something oh wait or we could just buy halfling clothes. We should also consider filing down our nails. Hygiene is important. Maybe the rusty sword could be uses as an improvised file if no one has one?

Should we give the knife sister some of our coins as thanks for the Cape and mask? I think we should. It would endear us further to the group.

>A mask made from some kind of chalky material. It's very light. It is mainly just plane white, with some black swirls decoratively painted on. Though not fit completely, it works

We need to ask Cardt how much the expenses to enter are. All we have are miscellaneous coins of dubious value.

>She doesn't know you have the spell. Huh. She allowed you to view the incantation, so why is she acting clueless?
I think this is her conducting a little experiment on us to determine just how intelligent we are. I hope she shares her findings with us.

>>3818688
The God of Intelligence wanted to play on Hard Mode.

>>3818714
This is Cady making assumption, but QM confirmed we know it well enough.

>>3818717
Do we even knowwhere the city is? Why even leave? we haven't done anything "evil" yet, and if we act smart they'll never have a reason to kill us.
>>
>>3818748
I disagree. With both the potential for an ally and the use of candle light. For one candle light might ruin our vision since we're a dark vision creature, it's highly likely this is a predator looking for prey, pretty much most sentient being will kill a goblin on sight, and if it's another goblin then they'll have little reason to ally themselves with us because we go against tradition (using magic like a goblin heretic).

>>3818884
Holy fuck. That is the most asinine thing you could possibly do. You know how loud that's gonna be? Loud enough to wake up someone who's a light sleep. You trying to fucking get us killed by having Haven swearing vengeance and carving our goblin boy up like a Christmas Turkey? The fuck anon.

>>3819034
That doesn't sound too fantastic of an idea. It would certainly be a fast track to getting everyone to kill us faster since if we had an empire people would know just where to kill us, as opposed to having to hunt down Goblin Dens. Theres a good reason no goblin empire exist.

>>3819036
Not a bad idea.

>>3819074
Tbh we're living it better with these guys than we were back home. We got clothes, gear, money and more meals than we ever got back in our shitty den. I'm pretty sure any other goblin would be more than willing to kill us than these adventurers.

So is it just the two anons that want to murder the party and project their rape fetish or something?
>>
>>3819108
No all that shit sounds gay and like a waste of time. Cooking? We don’t need it. Painting and drawing? Not unless we can discretely make schematics and architectural drafts. Giving coin to people who don’t expect us to and don’t want it? No thanks. Smut? Go back to Akun you fucking faggot. We will have a rape empire but we’re not gonna fucking have detailed mind control rape pedo smut shit like you’re used to from there.
>>
>>3819122
Who said anything about murdering them? I just wanna get the fuck away from them and out of their control. If murder is what facilitates that, then so be it. If not, then that’s fine too. The important thing is not having these fuckers monitoring us, going through our shit, and always around and ready to kill us whenever they feel like it. I wanna be as far from them as possible.

You don't want them to kill us I get it. It's not that hard to make that not happen.
>>
>>3819156
Somebody coming in saying they smell smut is exactly what someone from Akun would say. It’s a fetish quest website that gets shilled in the /qtg/ thread by pedo faggots fairly often. Either way, the point stands, most of your suggestions are stupid and a waste of time.
>>
>>3819163
A bit of the pot calling the kettle black don't you think. Dare I say are you one of those faggots with how familiar with that quest? You were the one to bring it up after all.

>>

Actually, no the sound wouldnt amount to much more than a distant thunk* which is fairly common out in wooded areas filled with prowling scavengers and hordes of chirping, whining bzzong little bugs.
From the perspective of the people several feet away, nothing would be heard unless we missed and she screamed.

>we're living it better with these guys than we were back home.
Irrelavent because we'd be living better than we are now if we were in charge of our own Goblin family.
>We got clothes, gear, money and more meals than we ever got back in our shitty den.
All of these are things we can procure on our own in the wilds and booby trapping trails without the constant fear of being killed.
Moreover if that is the sum total of your ambition then Bone Head will remain a slave until he dies in what will likely be short ignominious and pointless life as a freak show for the humans.
All of his intelligence wasted on entertaining and ingratiating himself to peons that could give a fuck about him.

>I'm pretty sure any other goblin would be more than willing to kill us than these adventurers.
Yeah because they were raised like animals and know no better. Raising our own goblins means we teach them OUR traditions and our ideas of right and wrong.
It means we have a team that, from day one, looks at us for guidance on how to deal with the world.
It's highly unlikely that his own children would be the ones to turn on him.

>So is it just the two anons that want to murder the party and project their rape fetish or something?
First off, this entire thread is dedicated to the fantasy of living out the life of a Vagabond Goblin who just happens to be a savant.
In in other words, yeah the whole indeavor is channeling fantasies, so don't be a jackass about it everytime someone wants the character to actually do something a Goblin savant would do.

I will admit you do bring up some valid points, but I still believe we should stick with thins group, if anything but to continue on to the college and have people who will tell those wizard professors that we probably won't make a fleshpit the moment we're admitted. If we can get admitted.

>>3819192
Makes sense now that you put it like that. I wonder if she's writing up some thesis on exceptional Goblins.
>>
>>3819199
No to that. We should escape, get a fleshpit rolling, and use our shitty meathsields to help us explore ruins and stuff for lost elf magic words. Practical experience beats stuffy book shit every single day. Then once we’re strong enough, we start taking out other “evil races” and using any enslaved elves and human women they have for our breeding programme. That way we aren’t the ones who kidnapped them. We should also look to take over/absorb existing weak dens once we have a baseline of strength as well.
>>
>>3819199
i feel this group is only keeping an eye/herding us for the catpure/kill.
we need to ditch them, preferably with them ending up dead so they can't tell others about our nature.

leading them into a fight they cannot win?

>Mimicry Lots of uses, this will give us the most bang for our buck, I say we learn this one.
No, Divination is the most useful for a leader. Being able to monitor your minions, spies, fellows and anyone you can steal something personal from is extremely valuable and something we would use constantly.
Mimicry is a situational ability that will not come up often but will be useful when it does.
The anons voting for these spells make no sense as we're a smart goblin and we're picking spells that don't accentuate that properly. They picked a combat buff spell over invisibility - which is perfect for a sly goblin.
>>
What the fuck did I just wake up to
>>
I would like to escape as well. These faggots are gonna sell us in the city as some kind of rare talking goblin pet. Fuck that. We need to steal book elf's magic book when she sleeping or dead. Then book it out of here.
>>
>>3819290
>Mimicry is a situational ability that will not come up often but will be useful when it does
Kinda why you want it, we’re fighting someone and then suddenly it sounds like we’re in the trees and then we jump out of the bushes fucking shank them ten times. You have to be creative and think outside the box. The fact is that mimicry has lots of utility and possibilities. Would you rather have a tool box filled with pretty good tools or have one amazing tool that has one use?
>>
>>3819290
We can learn it later right now the most important thing is escape and mimicry will be the most useful for that. We can bash the book elf over the head with a rock steal her book and then mimic her voice to say she's going to bed. Then escape.
>>
>>3819339
>We need to steal book elf's magic book when she sleeping or dead. Then book it out of here.
Yes.
>>3819343
>Would you rather have a tool box filled with pretty good tools or have one amazing tool that has one use?
You can't get a better spell than divination for a leader and any kind of intrigue as information, especially information they don't know you have, is very powerful and important - far more important in the long term than an ambush opportunity, which can be constructed with other tools.
>>
>>3819347

So many thoughts are flooding through your head right now. First thing is first, however. Identify the creature. From there determine your next course of action.

You mumble the words for {Candle-light} under your breath and cast the spell out. Not bright, but with propulsion. The spell is sent many paces away...

And that is when you get a good idea of what this thing is.

Flat nosed. A wide mouth. Small in stature. And green.

A goblin

It's fairly small, which is peculiar. That gives you three options as to what it is...

A runt cast-out.

A young warrior from a newly-founded den.

Or a scout.

Hmm.

But then you watch as a second pair of eyes pop up behind the first. And a third.

Ah. So it's a hunting party. And from their size, it is in-fact a newly founded nest...

If they attack this camp, they'll be slaughtered. Though even among the hunters, forethought isn't their most pronounced trait. That's probably exactly what they're doing however. Preparing an... ambush.

>Notify Cardy of the goblins

I'll accept a temporary lull in the attempted escape/conquest/expantion.

If only because we don't know where we are and might have difficulty finding a safe place.
But eventually, our goal should be the elevation of our race from the ruin that they have endured.

Long term, we need to find a large marsh-land or swamp to work with. Durable Halophytic plants that grow there can have many uses for hiding and protecting a goblin population. And theirs plenty of vermin fish there that can be hunted or even farmed if the clan grows large enough.
Moreover humans and elves tend to stay away from these areas because they don't bare agricultural yields, have plenty of disease which goblins are likely more resistent too, and the winding nooks and crevices in these lands makes it difficult for anything larger than a Goblin to walk around unhindered by brush.

Smile at the Goblins.
Saunter casually over to a sleeping cardi and if she is fast asleep.
Give her a nice thwack on the skull and wave them over to the camp.

The act will provoke the party into a charge against the camp. Which gives you about ten seconds, possibly less, to act.

Prepare voice mimicry.
when the Goblins have made it to about the same distance you guys are from the camp, grab Cardy's shit with your back to the camp then use the spell to imitate Cardy saying "Bone Wits, run!"

Take her shit, and book it the fuck out of there.
We can go back to the place we got attacked by dogs.
There are plenty of rooms and corridors, they don't know about where we can set up a trap to kill the other psychopath and/or elf if the come for us.

We have a good oppurtunity here.
My bet is that the fighting will give us enough time to drop off a nice crummy trail masked by shit dropped by other fleeing looting goblins ergo they may not even manage to find us.
>>
If she nods off before the goblins get over here, flip through as much of her spellbook as we can before notifying her and then then others of the hunting party

>>
>>3819544
Come to think of it... this seems reasonable.
We can just read the book while they're watching and if/when the gobbros attack we can then run away.
No fuss no muss and that course of action should satisfy our pacifist friendos
>>
>>3819588
why not just have a look at the paper we saw by the log that we never took chance to read when towerman took a piss, less risky than the book that's around her neck. if we save her she might be willing to show us more later.

You silently thank your goblin brothers for the sacrifice they are unknowingly making for you.

You nod towards the goblins. No doubt they will be confused by your presence, but if you give them an opening then they will surely take it.

You look towards Cardy. Her head is slumped down as she is sleeping peacefully.

You begin to tread lightly towards her, finding a rock near the base of the log which to use.

She begins to stir as you walk near, but your steps are near completely silent, so it is most likely a dream. You are very thankful for your silent goblin gate.

You arms raise high in the air, AND...

crunch...

The wet crumbling noise of her caving skull meets your ears. Sounds like a boot on wet plaster. Not odd enough to signify any distress, nor loud enough to wake the sleeping. She slumps forward, blood oozing from every hole in her head, and falls into the camp-fire before her.

You look over towards the goblins who are still covered by darkness and motion forward with your hand. At first they show no signs of moving, but soon a steady, careful forward march is made.

You quickly strip the books from her burning corpse. Many of them are chained to her Armour, but you manage to free one spell-book regardless. You additionally take her title-less book that sat next to her on the log.

You hadn't expected her death to come this easy. Maybe that she'd be more careful and have prepared a countermeasure? Or maybe the party really had though you a dog, underestimating your will.

Next, for the frame on the picture.

You case {Reinforce} on your hands under your breath, and pick up a burning log. As silent as possible, you place it on the edge of Hess and Ryn's tent. There will be chaos. The goblin hunter party wont survive the encounter, but you'll be damned if you make the surprise easy on the party. A few burns and perhaps a dead Elf should settle the odds some.

Quickly, before the tent catches fire and before a single soul stirs, you activate {Mimicry} looking to impersonate Cardy's voice.

All that comes out is a screech, though. The price of not having practiced the incantation. And a loud, distorted screech at that. Immediately bodies begin to move in the tent. You bail, all your items in hand or bag, and run down the embankment to the opposite of the goblins.

You are at the bottom of the embankment when you first hear yelling. You turn back to see a goblin body flying through the air, hit by a strong sword.

>Go back and help the goblins. There may be very little chance of you winning, but they are your kin. You will support them, even if your death is at hand.

>Run. They wouldn't help you, and you've exerted so much to get away. Their deaths are not in vain. Follow the road back to the village and figure a way to the ruins.

No one is advocating for it.
Some anons just don't like the fact that a goblin's gotta do what a goblin's gotta do. So they twist the pragmatic argument into their idea of a parody.

Hence the recurring accusations of "rape fantasy projection"

If, anything I want an eventual peace with the humans.
But on equal terms.

We wear our mask and cloak so people don't kill us start up a nest in that dugeon. Teach new goblins english, give them cloaks and masks, then have them hunt animals for the gore pit, pretending to be halfings if they come across somone. Develop basic santiry protocols. Kidnap some humans and then make a human farm. Then use some of the human females as baby producers.

While I'm not against kidnapping humans, if we do it we have to be careful. And definitely prioritize useful humans like craftsmen, blacksmiths, and carpenters. would have been easier and more efficient to do that with the group.
>>
>>3819804
You mean as a slave for some wizard. They were gonna sell us. Or dead when they think were getting to strong.
>>
>>3819793
I don't think that trying to go into town is our best option at this point. It's still too dangerous, we're still too weak and not good enough at passing for a halfling anyway. We slip up once in a human town, and we're dead.
>>
>>3819630
It's been a rough time making the vite but I see things as more or less settled. One magical psychopath is dead and that team is about to lose a lot of their shit.

Our practical options go as follows.

1)we can continue with the escape plan and leave, use what time we have to learn her magic and prepare for the coming assault.
2) we can stay and fight the goblins in full view of the humans and pretend that we had nothing to do with it. Maje like we regret Cardys death "she was my friend"
...I'm not privy to this because they'll likely kill us anyway
3) we can take a page from Sun Tzu's book and "keep our enemies closer" i.e. double back to watch them silently from a distance see what they intend on doing after the attack. This gives us a grand tactical advantage if they try to track us but it risks them spotting us if we act retarded.

I think that the most probable course of action for them is to try to eradicate the Goblin tribe that attacked them.
They'll likely be thinking that we are a part of that tribe. In which case, omce they find and destroy their nest, they'll move on.
The only serious fear I have is that the other psychopath, if she doesn't find our body among the pile of Goblins, might come looking for us.
>>
>>3819816
no hard proof they were going to do that. the awkward silence and towerman's weird thingy could have been a number of other things, and we didnt even try to figure out if they really were gonna sell us.
>>

>>
>>3819824

>>
>>3819824
i think it's too dangerous to stay close to the group right now, they're likely to think we had something to do with it since we disappeared.

but we should see if any of the other goblins survived and follow it back to it's nest to see if we can take it over somehow.

Not as far as I can tell, although some people's numbers change a bit. The audience has been pretty stable based on opinions and writing patterns; it's more likely that anon lacks emotional control. Also, the anons pushing for not playing as a goblin and being real kind hearted post more in around 6 hours, while the others are a bit lower at that time.

>>3819824
If we really wanna stick with this group then we can double back, flank the gobbos, and attack them from behind while they're engaged. If they question how she got a rock to the head from the angle the gobs were at we can just say there was one in the trees that lobbed a rock at her. Make him a musclier than average goblin to make sense why he could chuck a rock that size
>>
>>3819868
We’re a squishy goblin. We need meatshields. A temporary gorepit at least so we can throw bodies armed with sharpened sticks and stone spears and hatchets at our problems. We can’t break the limits of our power if we are too busy constantly running from animals, “civilized” races, and other goblins/evil races. We at least need enough minions to hunt/fish/trap a steady supply of food for us and to give us time to escape if we do get attacked.
>>
>>3819886
I specify in the trees to explain why they didnt find footprints, by the way

>>3819674

>>
>>3819873
i agree on that part, but we could have become more bad-ass leader with some experience from staying a bit longer with the adventurers, making for an even greater goblin empire, that might even have something other than just enemies like the dumb gobs are viewed now.

>>3819886
nah too late now they will be too suspicious of us disappearing and reapprearing.
too risky, might be able to convince them we didnt do anything if we stumble upon them by the gobbo nest and infiltrate it and kill the nest so they witness it.
but the issue is we have her books, so if they see that they will know it was us and kill us
>>
>>3819902
I think we should go off solo. There’s a fair chance these guys go after the goblin nest for payback. We don’t wanna be around for that. Just get as far away from them as fast as we can.
>>
>>3819863
By the time we were in the city, they were either
1)Thinking about selling us/ already decided to sell this
2) Decided they weren’t going to sell us/ never was going to in the first place
The thing about option 2 is that we are putting all our trust on it happening, if we’re in the city, there is no where to run. They will either put us in chains or put us in cage and give us to the buyer, and if we manage to escape all they have to say is that a goblin is lose in the city and say that we’re dangerous and need to be caught immediately. Again, I’d rather not stick around to find out if they decide we live or die.
>>
>>3819911
This is probably the best option. Everything else is too reliant on the trust of the others. We just gotta make sure that we cover our tracks, that elf is probably a half decent tracker

>>3819914

>>3819922
this, and the awkward silence when we ate food with them.
>>
>>3819826
Regardless of what it is, they were whispering about, it wasn't probavle that it would be good for us.
My own personal theory is that Cardy was the one rifling through our shit and that she was talking to them about her using us as some kind of science project or worse.
Moreover, if whatever they had in mind was benign, they wouldn't have hid it.
I mean what exactly did you expect would happen if we made it to a heavily populated human settlement?

Examine a comparable hypothetical scenario.

Does Koko the gorilla study at cambridge? If KoKo was a predatory animal that could procreate by the hundreds in a matter of monthes, would they be more inclined to let her in, then? What about if her intellectual capacity allowed her to use minor biological/radioactive /chemical weapons?

They wouldcage us without a second thought then they would murder us after an hour of conversation about it.

Don't get me wrong, this whole thing induicates that we can somehow come to working terms but now is not the time.
Utter obsequeience will not get us the informatiin we want.
There are better ways to acieve these things.
It may be a shitty situation that lead us to this and perhaps if those two psychos and the elf weren't around, we might've actually been able to build some real trust with that honorable guy, pops.

But as it is, with friends like these, the only reasonable thing we could do was cripple them by taking out an asset,
burning up their supplies and getting away.

How dumb are you to think that they wouldn't sell goblins espically special rare ones that can talk and cast magic. First of all one empire allready uses them in the armies, second of all this is medevial times so selling slaves is gonna be a thing, third goblins are viewed as animals just like you guess it slaves were seen as, fourth we can talk and cast real magic making us a rare form of goblin.

If we had a divination spell we could monitor them and snatch Hess at an opportune time, if they were a threat or close to us in the future.
> he other psychopath, if she doesn't find our body among the pile of Goblins, might come looking for us.
We should assume they are going to come after us, regardless - though I think you're right. Once again, a divination spell would allow us to ambush them and know if they were tracking us or not. We could attempt to lay a fake trail as I think she can track given her tasks in the group, but I don't know how successful we'd be. The first place she checks if she loses our trail is likely to be that ruin.
>>3819868
>Who says we even *have* to start a nest, actually? Let's just travel around and find the limits to our power...
I'm fine with that, as we can create minions and travel, using them as needed. We just need to figure out how to travel and provision our group well. We would likely come across an excellent location to use as a base as we do so; the current ruins would suit for building our first group and delving for valuables as we grow in power and understanding.

You begin to scramble up the other side of the hauler. From there you can still see the road, but the darkness from the area surrounds you well. To further blend in, you equip your cowl and mask. Able to see the camp, you watch Arlough easily slay the goblins. Ryn is helping treat wounds that Hess received from the fire, and Haven is staring at the burning body of her sister with a disappointed expression. The last goblin is quickly defeated by Arlough, who bears a shield made of light he apparently conjured. He then kicks Cardy’s body out of the campfire and begins to cast a spell. Slowly, the flames are quenched. If your eyes are to believe in what you see, then her charred skin is also starting to become soft and pale again under the ray of Arlough’s spell. You take this as your hint to run. As quietly as possible, you make your way down the road. You aren't sure if your being tracked, but there is always the possibility.

The sun should be rising soon.

...

After much walking, dawn approaches. It arrives just as you make it to the village you had previously seen. You are very tired and feel somewhat guilty over your split-second decision. Didn’t you somehow prove them right to fear you?

No. This was survival. There were red flags, and you had logic behind what you did. Not just animalistic instinct. At the very least, if you are a monster in their eyes, it isn’t a stupid one. You are an ally of your kin, not to those who would exterminate them like vermin. Not to say you don’t understand where they come from.

It is dawn when you arrive in the village. You are slightly tired but you can continue on. You see many villagers with torches scouring the fields. There is no way word spread that fast that you escaped. They can’t be looking for you, can they?

“Reina! Reina!” You hear them chant out that name.

Perhaps a search party? Has a person been taken?

It’s relieving to hear all this commotion isn’t about you.

They are beginning to enter the woods. Each villager is armed with a sword.

>Enter into the village. You wish to buy something/ talk to someone.

Reina is probably a local girl that got kidnapped and dragged to the goblin nest. No matter what it is, it’s probably not a good time to be a stranger around these parts, especially a goblin on the run.

For the future, if they question us on why we have the book and tell us to explain our self we should just be like "goblins killed her, and they were coming after me to I took her shit and ran so they wouldn't kill me" because she was dead and there were no other casters so she didnt need her book anymore we just took it, because in goblin camps if someone dies it would be irresponsible to not loot them

It's not an indefinite run.
Stop being a sore loser about the vote.

Now, It hasn't even been 24 hours yet and they've still got a tracker.

I already voted to move on and leave the village

After that, I say we should try to seek out this Goblin nest and watch it from a distance to see if the mercenary group will show up.
>>
>>3820096
Why? She’s just another mouth to feed at this point. And we’re still trying to get some distance so we can safely study our new spellbook.
>>
>>3820108
>After that, I say we should try to seek out this Goblin nest and watch it from a distance to see if the mercenary group will show up.
This is as good an idea as I've seen so far.
>>
>>3820108
if you wanted to find the goblin nest we should have watched if any gob survived the attack and followed them, not run away willy-nilly along a path.
how the fuck are we supposed to find the nest? we have zero information.
>>
>>3820110
Hmm, what to chose. We could be extra careful and just don’t interact with this town at all, or we could find a kidnapped child and potentially compromise our position.
>>
>>3820096
>>3820110
>>3820108
There have been goblins about in the area, so it's likely the girl was nabbed by goblins, if we can seize control of the tribe or find the other hunting party and bring the girl back to the tribe, we could essentially gain control both through a show of power (Magic) and fruitfullness (bringing a breeder).
We could then suggest that the tribe relocate, as we are aware of impending danger.
We could then study our tome while expanding our tribe.
Y'all are just trying to do one thing at a time and it's going to slowly kill us.
>>
>>3820119
yeah nevermind i suggested it hours ago while we had a far better chance to do it (follow a survivor gob or the tracks from where they launched their attack) instead of dodging both villagers and adventurers trying to find it before them (highly unlikely)
>>
>>3820120
You're forgetting our excellent sense of smell, and night vision.
It wouldn't be hard for us to retrace their steps following the Goblin patrys smell and small foot prints.
>>
>>3820129
No. Drawing attention to ourselves right now to find and kidnap a girl in the hopes that the local goblins will make us their leader instead of just taking her for themselves and kicking our ass is a bad idea. You’re suggesting we immediately commit suicide instead of buying time for us to learn and practice spells and make a quick gore pit.
>>
>>3820140
true, but we're late to the chase
>>
Locked In. Tallying Votes.
>>
>>3820151
Just woke up, I see a lot has happened. Not angry at the result, it seems we thought through the action somewhat.

Now with this village, we need to keep moving, maybe see if we can buy foodstuffs but other than that I can't stress enough KEEP MOVING. We are a lone green beret in the hills filled with things that want to kill us. No where is same till we have a place of our own. Destroy our tracks, minimize traces, and put as much distance between the party and us at this moment.

The Mantra of Bone Wits

>1. Survive to see another day

Fine then, stick to the original plan.
I suggest we continue to go back to the ruins and start booby trapping, reading and hunting then.

It's a good plan and it's only gotten better so far.

>>3820129
Leave the fucking girl alone, we're an emaciated Goblin with latent magical talent, not some Orc that can just seize bodies whenever they please. We aren't anywhere near strong enough to deal with this.

Let the mercs tracking us, handle this Goblin tribe when they inevitably get pointed to it by the the village.
By the time they make it to us we'll be well fed, well rested and well prepared.

Yeah ok, all aboard for plan:
>Waste all possible resources buying time in a known location setting up traps to be easily spotted and disarmed by their rogue while reading from a spellbook of what was apparently a relatively low-level wizard after all SHE COULDN'T EVEN GET IN TO THE MAGIC ACADEMY YET
>>
>>3820183
I like this idea. If the wolf corpses are still there we can use them to either start a small gore pit for some minions or as a good supply for a while.
>>3820178
This village has angry mobs forming looking for a missing girl. Do you really want to be a stranger that nobody has seen before around that? One that looks like a rogue at best.

Good stuff QM.
>>
>>3820208
Contrary to what your insinuating, setting up a whole bunch of obvious traps to keep them busy would force them to burn more of their resources in search for us and it would allow us to study them and their methids and use our newly acquired magic to good effect.
Moreover, their weakness is their arrogance.
10 obvious traps and one fatal one is all it takes to reduce their number and force them to regroup.

That's a game they can't afford to do for very long since if you recall, they're going somewhere to collect a payday from an adventure they've expended time, money and supplies completing.

They've already lost a bunch if their resources, not to mention their handy dandy tents were burned in the raid.

Now, GobboGoddo on the other hand...
Given a few days feasting on those dogs, digging holes with sharp sticks protruding from them and practicing knew spells will put us in a wonderful position when they show up.
>>
>>3820269
we aren't a hunter, we know fuck all about traps
using D20's as an example, the DC of our traps would be like 5, 10, and 15 for our greatest success.
>>
>>3820269
Even better if we find an alternate exit from there so we can just get the fuck out of there while they’re fucking around with traps.
>>
>>3820269
it's a waste of time doing traps and makes it obvious we're in the area when it's better no one knows where we are.
we should spend the time exploring the ruins instead and then get out of there.
it's a really bad location for a base as it's right on a travel path too.
>>
>>3820306
Fair point. We should just do a quick run through of the ruins, harvest some dog meat and hides, study our new spell book, and then find somewhere more secluded and defensible.
>>
>>3820317
Also cardy’s research notebook
>>
>>3820296
We don't need to be hunters to be able to know how to dig a hole and put sharpened sticks in it.

Likewise we don't need to be hunters to figure out how to apply a paiute trap trigger to a pulled back branch or a large swinging stick.

It's beyond basic stuff.

That being said, I suppose it doesn't matter any way since >>3820306 makes sense to me.
So I'm convinced that is the best course of action.
