Wounded, bleeding, yet it was your pride that hurt the most. You thought yourself strong enough to make your father’s nation into your own, to become the emperor that youkai strived for, to clean their palates from the human-loving altruist that was Inu-no-Tiasho and veer youkai-kind into a nation that once more praised the strong and shunned the week. Yet didn’t expect to turn those words around you, and heavily wound you. Instead of roars and cheers for their new leader, for someone who “gets” youkai, their savior was instead challenged for his position, and as much as you believed yourself to be at the top and your lineage the epitome of your kind, they weren’t exactly foolish enough as to not band together and attack all at once. Many fell, and their attacks weren’t that threatening at the beginning, but damage kept on piling and piling. Soon enough, the mighty Sesshomaru saw himself with a blade pressed on his neck, a foot pressing against his searing chest and the feeling of falling before the lights went off.

Had it not been for their leader’s pity, you’d probably had joined your father with nothing to prove other than how big of a mistake was to joinwith your mother and producing such an inefficient child. After all, he had abandoned your mother for that human pet of his, and even bored a child that threatened your throne. Lands you knew not about welcomed your battered, bloodied body, those precious robes you once held dear now stained by both you and your enemy, your legs devoid of any strength had done their job in carrying you out of the river from whence your consciousness had been regained. And yet the once prideful youkai could do nothing but to stare at the sky, to let the grass lick your body and-

“…!”

Red, white and black. They appeared to be producing some kind of noise, words? Your vision is blurry, but your nose still picks up the scent of a female-a human, nonetheless. You can grasp a soft voice out of it all, if you ignore the skull-splitting ringing of your ears.
What do you do?

You wrinkle your nose at the smell, and the annoying voice that’s doing nothing more but to aggravate your headache. You really aren’t in the mood for dealing with a human of all things, as what was yours by birthright had been usurped by traitors not long ago. You summon strength upon your aching limbs, yet you try to show little of it, for weakness should never be shown to those inferior to oneself. But at last your vision adjust, and the first thing you see are eyes devoid of meaning. These orbs are filled with sadness and some sense of loss, as if she was a lost pup rather than a, well, you were never really that good at determining how old a human was.

“Begone, Human.” You threaten the miko that was kneeling at your side, elbows digging into the ground as your spine screams with every movement you make, but you endure the pain as you prop yourself onto your rear. “I have no business with your kind, so be on your way and trouble me no more.” The miko stared at you…with pity? Leaving a basket with herbs that had been resting on her lap at your side, she stands ups and turns her back on you. “Use those herbs to heal your wounds, and I hope you hold true to those words.” She gave you a side-glance before retreating back into the forest, her movements being rather elegant, as if to imitate the dancing of the waves. Perhaps this was the first time a human has ever shown something other than fear or adoration towards you, but you brush those thoughts off your brain.

Still, what a wasteful human. You can regenerate what could be considered “life-threatening” wounds without the assistance from plants or whatever magic exist in this world, but humans don’t, so her offering you such a thing-Is she an idiot by any chance? Although using said herbs might accelerate your healing factor, but relying on a human is a bit…You close your eyes, and ponder. It took quite some time to convince yourself to cave in and use what the human had brought you, but you ended up guessing that in your condition you were no better than a big target for anything lucky enough to find you, and you might not recover in time when night falls.

And above all else you needed to survive in
order to punish those who had turned their back on you.

It didn’t take long for your wounds to become manageable to the point where you can walk without a problem-although sprinting is still something you’d rather avoid, and thus you decided to abandon that random patch of grass you had been laying on for who knows how long and venture into the unknown. The strength on each step increased by the minute, and soon enough what was once a chore became mundane as you dodged vines and branches, navigated through the uneven floor, but never following a specific path. And in the end, you end up reaching:

Sorry, I feel asleep and before I knew it I was late for some appointments.
As in an act of destiny, you found yourself a shelter in the form of a cave, a far cry from the lavish lifestyle you enjoyed up until not long ago, but you weren’t picky. Night was coming, and this might be the closest place to rest your weary body, and perhaps plan what to do next. But as you moved closer you noticed something moving in the shadows, until what emerged from its insides loomed over your figure, towering over your already impressive height and casting a shadow upon you. A bear had taken residence in that cave, and it appeared to be quite angry that you had disturbed it. The beast roars as it launches a claw towards your face, but you remain unmoved…

…..

You were never interested in cooking as you already had servants who were preoccupied in catering to your preferences and never gave the subject in question any thought, if at all. Eating raw meat wasn’t exactly your style, but anything for a full stomach as to speed your recovery up and ease you into bed, making sure to dispose of anything inedible afterwards (or that you’d rather not eat) and cleaning yourself up as to not summon any annoying critter. You use your mokomoko-sama as a pillow and let your consciousness slip from between your fingers.

….

At the first sight the morning sun, you were already taking your leave from your temporary hideout. You look at your body, and see yourself completely recovered. The wounds that once threatened your body were now gone, and as lousy as last night’s meal was, a bit of your energy had been recovered thanks to feasting on flesh. And so you moved, strolling through these unknown lands, a forest you’ve never seen before expanded around you. You wonder about your next course of action, until your eyes catch a familiar sight in the distance: White, crimson and red, you couldn’t remember her face all that clearly, but you nose told you it was that human from back then.

Now, what’s the plan?

>See an overview (Mokumoku seems healthy enough, but I wonder…)

I probably worded it bad, but think of it as "checking the map"

You pat the fur that’s on your right shoulder, and it answers to you in a very peculiar fashion: You can feel some of your youki being absorbed into that fluffy body that has now become like an extension of you, and by how hungry it was intaking as much of your energy as it could you can probably take to the skies. So you leap into the air, and the “decorative” fluff extends and offers your legs a place to stand on, growing in length and becoming a sort-of “trail”. The creature you’ve called as MokuMoku is a special type of youkai that can make its wearer fly by the exchange of energy, and thanks to it you slowly begin to raise into the heavens.

Your territory is known as The Western Lands, although humans refer to it as Shikoku for some reason. You manage to get a grasp on your position. “So this is Honshou,” You tell yourself, just in time for MokuMoku to run out of energy. You might’ve recovered, but perhaps your little pet has not-Or perhaps you were not as fully energized as you thought you were. Thus you descend from the heavens, although you are far away from where you started.

----

You do not need the help of a human, and you’d rather not associate with her ilk any further. You know these lands to be Honshou, that’s enough for you. Still you travel, more to avoid boredom than anything else, as you await for your “fur” to regain its former glory and take you back to your rightful lands. Your legs stopped aching and so you are able to travel faster, even speed through some of the more annoying parts. This whim soon takes you to the mountains, and the smell of youkai and blood is present-A battle had occurred not long ago. Two different smells intertwine and clash, but your nose is quick to pick out and point out: Two different types of youkai, coming from the nor-east and the nor-west.
Now, what should be the next step?

>Nor-East (Smell of rain)

>Nor-West (Smell of animal)
>>
>>3820825
That miko isn't following us, is she? Seems kind of weird that she shows up so often when we're unconcious. That aside.

You decided on a whim to follow the scent of rain, mayhaps it was because that was such a nostalgic scent that it naturally lured you in, memories of a younger you lazing around in a cold, yet warm and cozy rainy day at the side of your mother. So you took off, following your instinct rather than reason, soaring the mountains with agility that other, lesser youkai might have trouble keeping up with, until you reach what appeared to be a small valley. The smell of rain gets closer as the clouds darken, a feeling that a storm was brewing emerged from your soul, your eyes shift into another sensation. You were not alone in this place.

The strike lands like the fury of a god, but you were too quick to be smitten as a trail of after-images follows you, a showcase of your tremendous speed. The ground where you stood not long ago now sported a dark, charcoal ring on it that no doubt had you as the intended target. It does not take long for you to figure out the identity of your assailants.

“Hahaha! Look what we have here, a stray pup!” The drabs of a soldier and the physique of one clash against the fair features of the man above you. A lance resting on his shoulders, the male stood in the heavens by manner of magic, or what you assume to be the role of those burning wheels floating at his feet. At his side was what you could only describe as a caricature of the first man. Fat, balding, a lizard-like face that was closer to a youkai’s than a human, the sight of that thing revolted your stomach.

“Well well, those are some nice, silver locks he got there. I’d rather get pure black hair, but they are shiny enough that I could probably work with it, they might-”

“HA! You’d look like an old lady!”

“Shut up, brother!”

…They were children, no doubt about it. Still,

They had dared to lift a finger against royalty, and thus it was only natural for them to be severely punished for their sins. They were too busy being cocky to see your legs taking you high enough to be at range of the more beastly of the duo. That goofy visage turned dumbfounded once he saw your figure above his own, your right hand backed behind you, with your fingers slowly curling into your palm one after another, before twisting your body forward and delivering what in other regions they call a “haymaker”.

Your fist parts the skin of your opponent, his cheek becoming even more twisted as the sheer impact formed a crater-like indentation while his neck did its best to maintain the head connected to the torso. The sheer power behind your punch is enough to blow off a few of his fangs, cause severe damage to the jaws, and outright knock him out cold in one hit. All too fast for the other brother to do anything about it, your feet landing on solid flooring at the same time the more human-looking of the two screams.

“MANTEN!”

The sound of his body falling was like the gong that commenced the fight, as you quickly slid away from being skewered by the lance, and then jumped away once the young boy attempted a wide slash at you. Your taller figure was at a mere three meters from the thunder demon holding his weapon with both hands, lowering his waist and pointing the bladed end downwards. His face twisted in anger, showing his fangs in an attempt to intimidate you, and ready to pounce at you at a moment’s notice

Youkai are better communicating with their first than with their words, after all.

How to combat? Roll a 1d100 dice and write-in the type of attack you want to perform (depending on certain cues, you might do bonus damage to the enemy). If said number is higher than my roll, the whole number gets subtracted from the defense and then from the Youki (Health). If that number reaches zero, then that character will be incapacitated. If your number is lower, your will get a wound. Four wounds and you will be incapacitated. A 100 doubles the damage dealt after defense calculation, A 1 lowers the next roll by -30. The highest roll will be taken.

Hiten moved forward, his lance in front of him, turning those three meter distance into zero as he aimed at your chest. You could see the attack and were more than ready to do a counter of your own, but at the last minute you felt something pulling from inside you-Had you not recovered fully? Did your regeneration still need more time to have you in fighting conditions? This moment of hesitation proved fatal as Hiten managed to land a severe blow on you, a large cut across your chest that could’ve been a game-ender had you not evaded the full brunt at the last minute. Blood dripped from your chest, your kimono once more painted in the shade of red, a hand pressed against the large cut. You were not sure if to praise the child, or to end him immediately, for one needed to either be blessed by the gods or be dumb-fucking lucky to do this kind of damage to you.

“What’s the matter, old man?” He mocked you in a chirpy tone, his cockiness showing once more as he abandoned his stance for a moment, placing his lance against his shoulder, his anger replaced for pitifulness. But once more he readied himself for an attack, just this time electric sparks began to shoot from around his body, his lance slowly blinking an electrical charge until the blade covered itself in a white light. And then he moved forward once more-No fucking around this time, eh?

And so he moved, the electric surge coming from his lance ready to pierce your flesh and end you. But his steps were that of an amateur, and it wasn’t hard for you to move out of the way. At the same time, you prepared your whip, allowing it to emerge from your sleeve as you aimed at his left eye. And thus, with a quick move from your wrist you enacted your attack, your whip moving in serpent-like fashion as it approached its target. Yet his hands were quick to block the weapon from reaching its destination, but not quick enough to completely throw it off. The sharp weapon managed to pierce his shoulder pad, reaching flesh and rending his muscles.

“Shit!”

Twirling his weapon, he threw the offending weapon off his body. You quickly retrieved your weapon and stored it once more inside your sleeve. “You’ll pay for that!” He roared as his legs threw him far away from you. Electricity once more gathered in the blade but this time he aimed his weapon at you with only one arm. It was quick, a beam of lighting shooting off his weapon, a blinding light coming straight at you.

He relished at the fact that, in his eyes, you never moved out of the blast’s zone. And once all that was left was the scorched land he laughed, thinking this to be his victory. Once more his weapon rested, in both shoulders this time, as his attention shifted to the body of his older brother. “Well, can’t say I’m gonna enjoy my way back ho-” His blood froze in an instant as he felt your presence behind him, and he attempted to counter-attack as fast as he could. Your right claws, glowing a poisonous green, were too fast for him, as a single slash from your hand destroyed the armor, while another pierced his flesh, drawing a long, steamy trio of lines across his back. His screams were delightful as he dropped his weapon, both hands reaching for the searing wound you had inflicted, feeling the heat of the poison. He began to sweat, his body trembled from the sheer amount of pain he was in. You have to give credits were its due, any other lesser youkai would’ve melted in seconds.

“You!” He shouted once he managed to muscle through the pain, bloodied eyes staring at you with hatred that could compare to your own poison, his nose and mouth leaking lines of blood, yet his “condition” didn’t seem to affect his battle prowess much. Instead of using his lance to conduct his electrical attacks, he opted for using an open palm to launch a stream of lighting point-blank. Perhaps he just wanted to get one on you?

You didn’t have time for a flashy counter-attack like last time, instead you quickly surrounded yourself with a film of your youki as your arms crossed in front of your face. The electrical wave hit you, yet didn’t do much other than pushing you further and further. Once his charge was depleted, the lancer moved once more into close combat, throwing himself at you in a crazed dazed. Firsts upon fists clashed against your forearms, each one stronger than the last one. They were fast, as if he tried to give you no room to breathe, aiming at your vitals yet your arms quickly intercepting the attack. “Why won’t you die!?” He screamed as you took a few steps backs, finding a better position to soak his attacks and find an opening to strike.

Gave you a free -1 for poison, just cause.

That deteriorated state didn’t have the oomph needed to strike a threatening blow, for while his rage granted him a temporary boost in his strength, this soon ran out and what replaced it was the hollow husk of what was once the energetic boy. You decided that enough was enough, and to prove the sheer gap that separated both, you allowed him the illusion that his fist was about to connect, you could see him putting all of his strength in that one blow. The moment it came into contact to your cheek…never happened, as your hand swiftly moved to grab at his fist, the sheer pressure applied on his hand enough to make the bones inside shift.

Then you lowered yourself as you retreated an open palm, the tip of your fingers pointing forwards while resting against your waist. You took a step forward as you dragged the boy towards yourself before pushing through, with your poisoned claws going through his chest as if he was made out of paper. “G-Guehhhh!” The boy vomited a stream of blood upon your shoulder, as you easily lifted him with one arm, amping up the pain to the point all he could do was to lightly grab against your shoulder before going limp. You take your arm off his gored body, kicking him out of your path as if he was nothing but trash.

The two brothers laid motionless, the more lizard-like one of the two merely knocked out, while the human-looking one was about to die from your poison. You spot the lance he used to battle you not far from you.

You didn’t even give Hiten the honor of looking at him as his insides bubbled out of every single one of his orifices, soon all that would remain of him would be the burned shards of his armor. You moved to meet the monstrous thunder-type youkai who was beginning to regain consciousness. “Uh, what…what just?” But before he could make sense of what was going on, you kicked his belly hard enough to flip him onto his back. “Ack!” He whinned as he stared at you, wide-eyed as you planted your sole upon his chest. “You Bastard!” He attempted to blast you away with a blast from his mouth, but you kick him hard enough to shatter his spirit. You slowly begin to apply pressure, little by little. You hear him beg, you hear him cry, you hear him curse you, you even hear him trying to swear fealty to you, anything to survive. Not in that order, but you didn’t care to listen, too busy hearing the sound of his bones becoming dust against your might.

His dead was not a pretty one, nor was his brother’s, but that’s what they get for causing injury upon your body, for it is the law of the youkai world that the strong will prey on the weak. You harbor contempt for them, but not hatred, they were mere simpletons and giving more than a passing thought about them was the highest honor they could achieve. You walk away from their corpses, stepping and shattering the lance that once belonged to the youngest brother.

>Keep moving forward (“The smell of rain became extremely thin…”) (2 votes)

The smell of rain was so thin, you became disinterested, perhaps there were other youkai of their same tribe but based on the lack of “sustance”, they probably paled in comparison to these two. So instead of wasting your time with small fries, you veered your attention to the other mountain. As you left your current position, you could see the clouds that once darkened the land giving up against the sunlight. Apparently, those two were responsible for it.

The mountains displayed an odd beauty when colored an orange tint thanks to the setting sun, as you found yourself admiring the charming forms from time to time. At the very least, you found something worth paying attention to while investigating the source of this presence, especially now that the smell of a feast had mixed with it, the faint sound of celebration only confirming that you were close.

Caverns were their homes, and you surmised they hunted at the dawn of a new day. They covered themselves in pelts to resemble their kin, although they had seemingly grown fond of the armor humans wore and combined it with their…barbaric apparel. Unlike those foolish brothers, they didn’t jump on you upon feeling your presence, yet you could feel their enmity from a mile away. Their women, old and young retreated into their caves as their younger warriors traveled the mountains-surrounding you. The older of the pack met with you, what you could only call a “ragtag” group composed of wolf youkai, both humanoid and animal alike. Leading them were a duo of old wolves, a white and a brown one, with a red-headed woman wearing silver pelt right behind them.

“Why have you come to our tribe?” Asked the elder as its guardian stepped between you and the old wolf. “We have nothing to offer you but whatever we have to eat, surely a youkai such as yourself has no need for us.”

“You…you killed the thunder brothers!?” Crimson pigtails spoke and the older wolf was quick to reprimand her, but alas, he too was curious. “Is it true…have you slain those two?”

Tell the story (“Those two are dead, I killed them…”)

Fear. You can feel it on their gazes, amidst their readiness and bravado, the lingering smell of fear is so apparent you can’t help but laugh. You eye the woman who had spoken before, before gazing at the elder. “Those two are dead, I killed them…” You tell them of what had transpired not long ago, how those brothers had dared to even THINK they could ever challenge you, and your description of what they looked, the fresh smell of their blood in your clothing, everything matched. Confusion, fear, bewilderment, yet they remained stationary, chaos had not taken them, was it because of their youkai instinct? Pride? Or realization of who stood amongst them? The bloodied demon who smelled of danger.

“That’s great!” And yet there existed one that feared you not, was it because she was an imbecile? Well, the elder and his retainer were too shocked to impede her march towards you. Her soft features beaming an innocent smile towards you. “Those two brothers have caused us so much grief, they killed so many of our own! But now with their death we can finally reclaim our lands! Thanks mist-” “AYAME!” The olden wolf finally screamed, having called her name in whispers out of shock but finally shouting her name. Fear, it was filled with so much fear you could almost taste it. She turned her back to see her grandfather-and everybody’s-gaze, as if they were staring at a soon-to-be corpse. “What are you…?”

And so your hand approaches her…

Her head turned to gaze at your golden orbs with her own, innocent eyes, and was presented with that looming limb above her. She stared in disbelief and fear as that hand of yours approached her, paralyzed at the realization of what was about to happen struck her-He killed the thunder brothers for apparently no reason whatsoever, who is to say he isn’t a youkai that delights in murder? Who is to say the reason he was now here was not to clean the mountain of youkai and human alike? She was a fool, but realized it too late. He was too close, and even if she attempted to escape it would only mean a slower death for her. She closed her eyes shut and awaited, a whimper escaping her lips…

You nonchalantly patted her head, rubbing your fingers among a sea of orange locks, an aromatic, pleasant smell that reminded you of a floral forest that became stronger the more you messed with her hair. Alas, you walked past her as she was even more confused, but nonetheless relieved that you apparently were not interested in coloring the mountains red, at least with their blood. Then what…? “Funny, the only one who acted accordingly based on the gap that exists between us. If those two had at the very least a modicum of what she displayed to me, they might still draw breath.” The wolf tribe stared at each other, murmurs spreading, still unsure as to what to do about this situation. “Then, what might be the reason as to your arrival?”

Hearing the words of the maiden, her gratitude about having her lands returned to her, they made non-existent wounds itch. He wished this was enough to defeat the one that had usurped the throne, to reclaim your place as the ruler of the western lands and reign supreme, but just like the child that invoked the thunder and his brother-No, at the very least they drew blood from you, and the younger one managed to land a few hits-even if you managed to block them. You gave him a fairer fight than what THAT youkai that brought you to the brink of death served you, and through a miracle only you survived his onslaught. His men were powerful, and their blades managed to reach you, but once he made his act of presence, it became a one-sided fight-No, to call it that meant that they were even fighting as equals. You never landed a blow, you never drew blood, yet his blade toyed with you, teasing your own before dodging away from the arc you drew at the last second, mocking you every time he could, even at times flicking your blade away from reaching his softer spots with the white of his fingers, his men taking that opportunity to stab at you, wound you, and turn you into minced meat before you were thrown off a cliff. You can still remember that smug face, the face of the victor, as he sentenced you to your death. At that moment you understood one thing…(cont)

“It’s obvious, isn’t it? You speak of a burden being lifted from your shoulders,” You spoke as your steps took you closer to the silver-manned wolf, crossing gazes with him. “You should be grateful that I am allowing you to live your miserable life enclosed in the mountains. So, I wager either a sword or something precious might be enough to pay off your debt, so you can continue living this miserable existence for generations to come.” You smiled. The only way to reclaim your lands was to attain power, power that couldn’t be challenged. Thus your request made sense, the weapon of the brother was not of your liking even if it was powerful-A Katana is what you desired, there is no weapon that feels better between your fingers that the mighty blade known and feared by youkai and human alike. Even if it was of low-quality, as long as it wasn’t a-“I, I apologize, my lord-errm?” “Sesshomaru.” “Yes, Lord Sesshomaru. The weapons we have, they all belonged to the humans and I doubt you’d find them of your liking for they are as frail as their bodies. We only wield them because of their reach, and because we…aren’t as strong as we used to be.” You squinted your eyes in disappointment, should’ve seen that coming. You let out a sigh out of your mouth, perhaps you expected too much from their ilk? They WERE terrorized by literal who’s.

“WAIT!” A voice bellowed from behind you, the girl from before standing between you and their leader. Her eyes stared at you with renewed vigor, no longer fearing your might but rather challenging it. “You speak of a tribute, then let me be it.”

“Ayame! You shouldn’t! As the next in line you must-!”

“I know, that’s why-!” She answered back, making the older wolf stare at you for a solid second before lowering his head. Those emerald eyes returned to you, fear lingering upon them but also a fire that couldn’t be contained in such a little body. “I am not strong, we are not strong, and we are lacking in manpower. If I were even a smidge stronger, I could’ve saved the lives of our kin, we wouldn’t have been run off our lands, contained in less than a third of the territory we once used to rule. Pathetic…” She clenched her fist, her visage twisting into one of self-hatred. “That’s why, I offer myself to you as a vassal so perhaps I can one day attain the power to protect my family.” She declared with bravery as she tapped her own breastplate.

…You just stared at her, and let an audible sigh out of your mouth. This turned to be one big mistake, and tormenting these wolves that had already lost so much would only leave you with a bad taste in your mouth. You’d rather leave, if anything. “…Do as you wish.” (cont)

>>3829444
She was the daughter of the tribe leader, and at the very least you respected her courage, so just telling her to fuck off would be rude, but at the same time you really didn’t care about a vassal at this point. Thus you simply turned your back to the group, and as nonchalantly as you appeared, you left. The leader of the tribe snuggled with his granddaughter for one last time before she reached for you.

A new set of footsteps accompanied you, [Ayame forcefully joins the party]!

The idea of acquiring a follower this soon never once crossed your mind, believing things to return to normal once you acquired a katana strong enough to tear your opposition apart. Thus you turn around and face the wolf youkai, staring at her from head to toes and soon you realize,”Eh? What? Do I have something in me?” You sigh, she’s useless as far as you can tell. “The path I’ve chosen is one of war, and I don’t have the time nor patience to babysit a youkai who can’t even defend herself.” “Hey! I’m strong y’know? I-” “Then prove it, land a blow on me that will change my mind.”
Ayama smiled as she lowered her stance, arms spread in a fighting style. You remained unmoved, seeing no need for one. The wolf launched herself, her legs carrying her with tremendous speed and force, her lithe body twirling in mid-air as she used the momentum to throw a devastating kick towards your neck…that would’ve landed had it been the case for most youkai. You intercept it with your closest arm, and feel the strength of her blow. “…That will be enough.” You spoke, as you turned your back and resumed your path. “Eh? I, sure? I think…” Ayame tilted her head in confusion, still unsure if she had passed or not, before staring at her leg. She shakes her head, and continues following behind your trail.

“Mmh, at least we have dinner.” As you traveled the mountains, you found a Shika deer. Ayame was quick to hunt it, and wanted to eat it right away but you wanted to see what laid beyond the mountains before relaxing. You’d rather not get surprise attacked by anything, even if it might just be a weak youkai, and besides apart from the scattered trees there wasn’t exactly a place suitable to rest. Rain could come at a moment’s notice, a hard lesson you learned when you were but a pup. Soon, the sound of music reaches your ears as you catch sight of a large village in the middle of a festivity. Colors, strangely-tinted yukatas and kimonos, villagers eating, dancing while either wearing masks to cover their faces or at the side of it. “W-What is this smell?”. The smell was familiar-cooked meat, the spices they added to their food, the way in which they mixed them, you’ve never tried human food before but upon finding the smell, you remember a certain youkai that once fought alongside your father and how he used to visit a village in human guise just to try their food every once in a while, a guilty pleasure of his, he said. You really didn’t care about those kind of things, but Ayame was apparently enthralled, should you have just fed her the deer to avoid this, you wondered? A sigh escapes your mouth as you can see the shine in her eyes.

Ayame’s face looked conflicted, but you decided that mingling with lowly humans once won’t kill neither of you. Push comes to shove, the whole place can go up in flames for all you could care. “Let’s go.” You jumped off a cliff and landed perfectly on the soil bellow, almost as if you floated the last couple of centimeters, soon followed by Ayame who’d rather “surf” the rocky surface. “We don’t need to really go, Lord Sesshomaru. Sure, you can easily put on a mask, cover your ears with your hair and pretend the lines on your face were make-up, and even the yukata you wore wasn’t that far off from what some of the wealthier humans wore-Even if the material used to weave it would require an entire nation’s manpower. Basically, just take off the armor parts of your guise, fix yourself and get a mask, no problem-Well, if you don’t count that Ayame looked like a barbarian straight from the mountains. Thus, you approached one of the street vendors that wasn’t as surrounded by people, still concealed by the shadows of the night and the buildings. He smelled of strong booze, but didn’t look completely inebriated. You weren’t a petty thief, so you took one of the gems from your own garments. Humans are oddly attracted to jewels, we are not talking about mystic artifacts or powerful charms, or anything close to being imbued with anything, they basically just like these shiny rocks. So all you were going to do was to exchange one of their favorites for the kimono and masks, and some of their coins. Thus you threw the pebble, and it didn’t take long for the man to notice it, hurriedly crawl towards it and then jump around, hollering like a madman as he held the object above him, while your hand swiftly took the required items.
>>
>>3832290
Ayame really struggled with the concept of Kimonos, and it took you both fixing her and putting up with her being embarrassed to finally have her somewhat presentable. This might be a one-time thing, but that didn’t mean you’d allow her to walk around looking like a fool. Unlike humans, your pride and sense of honor were important and having a messy servant speaks volumes of you as her master. Thus you moved, wearing the masks to hide your youkai traits, and while your hair was a big indicator that you might not exactly be human per say, humans either brushed it off as you being eccentric or simply ignored it. Ayame at first couldn’t help herself but to release a threatening around about her, wanting to have nothing to do with humans, needing you to remind her that humans don’t growl. This lasted until you stopped at your first stall, and Ayame’s personality did a 180, now caring little but the food the humans produced yet having abandoned that aggressiveness and having replaced it with a more sweet, yet brusque personality. You ate one or two of those “Takoyaki” the humans had prepared, but found them nothing special, while the wolf youkai acted as if her belly was bottomless.

“Ahh, Lord Sesshomaru. I’ve never had something so good in my life.” Ayame patted her belly, having already proved that she could out-eat most humans, often drawing stares for your chagrin. Luckily, the bag with coins lasted enough to pay for it all. Well, at the very least it beats just having raw meat, as apparently she knew next to nothing about cooking either. “Hehehe, you should’ve told me human food was this good. They might be lowly, disgusting creatures, but I guess they had to have something good going for them, eh?” Of course, you didn’t pay attention to Ayame-rather, you couldn’t. After all you could see them running atop tall buildings, the scent of youkai lingering wherever they landed. They’ve been following you for some time now.

I hate to but in, but you really should work on your formatting a bit.
Typically you would do a line break at the beginning of dialogue, whenever the speaker changes, or when there's a new subject. This post would become:

>Leave the village ("We had our fun")

She was satisfied, you had no business in these lands.

“Ayame, we are going.”

She seemed reluctant at first, but in the end she agreed without much protest. Your eyes still focused from time to time on the shinobi perched atop the rooftop, but decided that ruining this peaceful night with another pointless fight wasn’t your style. The wolf didn’t need to know about it, might as well have her think of this night in a pleasant manner, a fond memory even if it meant being near humans. Dammit, you are starting to sound like your father.

Thankfully, you had not penetrated deeply into the village, so leaving didn’t take you more than a few minutes. The shinobi having retreated back to the shadows once they realized you were leaving the village. What troublesome humans, but you could understand the weaker species being rattled by the presence of someone much stronger than them. Ayame walked happily in front of you, swinging her legs as she sang a lullaby you weren’t interested in listening.

“That was fun, my Lord. Thank you.” She turned around to face you, arms crossed behind her back, slightly bending forward and with a thankful smile on her face. You sighed, placed a hand on her head and kept on walking. “I-I have the feeling you just treated me like a child just now!”

The night was getting colder and colder, you felt sleepy. You really didn’t like the fact that you had to go through the wolf tribe to reach the cave you made your home, and you knew not if it was going to rain or not.

You decided it was better to be safe than sorry. You picked a random path and made it into your radius of action, checking everything with Ayame and finding nothing other than random pieces of clothing that made you think humans passed through here-if it weren’t for these already growing moldy and the fact that you could see bones from time to time being haphazardly buried near them. You paid it no attention, and continued on forth, until Ayame called for you.

“Lord Sesshomaru!”

The girl shouted, making you turn around to see her beckoning at you to a random path, and upon following her you discover a small hut in the middle of nowhere, far enough from civilization, you could probably use to spend the night in case of rain. Well, at the very least the shinobi no longer followed you, seeing as they did nothing while either of you were alone.

“It smells like human and it’s not really that well-kept, but it sure beats sleeping outside.”

You observe the many weapons scattered all over the house, be it axes, lances, hammers, and an odd katana that was perched atop the opposite wall. You feel curses running through it, not out of shamanism but through having been used for murder countless times. At the very least, just like this cover, it will do for the time being.

Your eyes spot the only bed there, and decided on a whim to give it to Ayame.

“Are you sure my lord? This is soft!” You wave your hand as you make yourself comfortable on a corner of the hut. MokuMoku is all you ever needed. “Well, if you say so!”

Dragging another body, the silent assailant returns to his hut. Blood tricking from his weapon, he finds the front door open, a small grin appearing on his face as he sees two figures obscured by the night sleeping in his house. His steps are careful, devoid of any sound whatsoever, his grip tightening on his weapon as he approaches the one sleeping soundly in his bed. He raises his arm as he strikes…

-0-

You wake up the next morning, a bit grateful it did not rain. Routes often get rather messy now that MokuMoku wasn’t at full strength and following a particular scent becomes near impossible. You step outside, letting the first beams of sunlight bathe your form.

“Ayame, how long are you planning on sleeping?”

You never expected to have a midnight snack, but you found out that you were hungrier than you imagined. The fresher kill basically banished, not even the bones remained, while Ayame got the dead body that the man had been carrying.

“Yeah, I’m up. Sheesh, that human almost scared me out of my wits, but at least we don’t need to worry about traveling with an empty stomach.”Ayame stretched, lifting her arms to the heavens as her body tensed.

You walk out of the hut, remembering its scent as well as that of this particular village.

And so you took another route to reach the mountains that were once claimed as the Thunder Brother’s abode. The smell was thin as to be but a minor annoyance, but you decided to investigate it anyways, thinking that perhaps you could find a better blade than the one you held. The lance the “human” one carried was of good material, but too small and the grip had been smashed, a shame he didn’t use a sword.

So you reached the place where you massacred the two and found that someone had buried the bodies, as mounds with flowers atop them replaced your image of their rotting corpses getting feasted on by crows.

“You were telling the truth.” Ayame spoke as she once more covered the face of the deceased Hiten. “…But they didn’t deserve something as pretty as this, Lord.”

“This was not done by my hand.” You replied, as your eyes tried to see any near settlement.

You assumed there were more of the thunder youkai, but neither you nor Ayame found anything for a good time. That is, until you arrived at what you could call a makeshift village-No, perhaps even calling it a small one was overstating it. A smell familiar from the thunder brothers wafted from the houses as you walked around, but found nothing remarkable. The swords that were inside the houses had nothing on the blade you currently had, so you decided to leave them there.

“Lord,” You nodded at the concerned Ayame, both of you could feel a stare aimed at you.

“Well, it’s about time you show yourself.” You mouthed as you stared at a specific direction. From the shadows, something small emerged. She was but a child, and she looked as innocent as they get, eyes showcasing fear and rage that couldn’t be contained in such a small container.

“You! Who are you!?” Her facial features and the “armor” she wore, it was as if it was a younger, female version of the man you killed a day ago. Both hands wielding the lance’s blade. So that’s why you couldn’t find it.

“She’s their living figure,” Ayame growled, for she has told you of the barbarities those men commited against her kin. Her rage was understandable, but with the motion of your right you ordered to calm down. “To think there was one more…”

Thus you walked forward, the child understandably shaken as you approached her. Even someone as young as her should know the difference between them, the gap that no amount of trickery could fill. “Your brothers,” The young girl stared at your eyes in expectation and fear, your shadow covering her tiny body. “Dared to lift a finger against me, I simply returned the favor.”

You did not hold back with your answer. You cared little about the runt that was pointing a weapon at you, but you felt it was only right to tell her what had transpired, and show her what happens to those that dare attempt anything funny against you. Her eyes became glossy, tears began to run down her face, but you turned your back as you decided to resume your travels. Her steps were loud, her intentions clear, you didn’t even need to do anything as Ayame held the blade between her fingers, holding the thunder youkai in mid-air, her little muscles still tried to struggle the weapon off her grip, needing only a few centimeters to land a blow on you-A blow that’d be like the breeze of the morning wind.

“Drop her, Ayame.” You ordered, and Ayame followed suit, hearing the kid repeat the words “it hurts” behind you before getting back on her feet. “If you truly wish to avenge them, become stronger. Hold your brother’s weapon and survive, I have no interest in weaklings.”

She sniffled and bawled, but you continued to search for anything remotely useful in the village. Nothing, absolutely nothing of importance bare a few human coins you stashed inside MokuMoku for safe-keeping. Worthless for a youkai, but if you ever have the need to get into a village these might prove useful. You have but a limited number of jewels on your armor and while you aren’t all about glamour, they are yours.

“I still say we should’ve ended her life, my Lord.” Ayame pouted.

You couldn’t care less about the feud between the wolf and the thunder youkai, but taking a child’s life was gonna do nothing but to leave an ashen taste in your mouth. If she grows up and still chases after you, then that just means you wasted your precious mercy on a useless youkai.

Your path takes you to another human village, one that looked geared in the production of rice by the amount of artificial water bodies surrounding it. You were thinking of getting closer to get a better look, until you felt spiritual energy accumulating near. A small puddle suddenly bursts into a pillar of water, the figure of a woman wearing a rather elegant kimono presenting herself towards you as the water returned to the puddle. Not a single drop sprinkling out of their origin.

These are my domains, youkai. State your business or leave.

Well, isn’t she cocky?

“Oh? I find it rather peculiar that you are telling me this while hiding behind an illusion. Usually, so called ´deities´ just strike youkai on sight.” You jest, a devilish grin spreading on your face as the maiden grimaced. “Do not waste my time with pointless threats, woman, if you cannot even carry them.”

And so you disregard the goddess as you keep on track, simply walking past her with Ayame following you closely. You hear a “tch” from behind you, and in an instant three water entities resembling her surround you, tridents pointed at your neck. You simply stop, the maiden repeating her threat with Ayame wanting to go on the attack but knowing not what to do. Your golden eyes slowly slide towards one of the figures, staring coldly upon her which made the goddess recoil.

“Very well,” You give up, thinking she’ll just end up being an annoyance and you’d rather not have to deal with her this early in the morning. She wished for a reason? There were at least two you could think of. You close your eyes as you begin. “I am looking for two things: A katana worthy of being wielded by me, and something to soak my throat with. I see your beloved servants are fond of rice, how about sake? Surely you have enough confidence in your mortals to provide me with something good.”

“…You believe you can just demand things from a goddess, youkai?” The deity eliminated two of her copies, only the one in front of you remaining. She rested the butt of her trident against the ground as she looked at you from top to bottom. “…But, if you allow me your services, I think I can whip out something for you. You see, one of my servants has been plotting rather nasty things behind my back, I was thinking of chasing him but leaving the temple might put my people in jeopardy. If you take care of that nuisance, I’ll grant both of your wishes. How about it?”

The prospect of a better sword was enough for you to accept the goddess’ demands, even if you could have just as easily taken it out of her hands. Then again, were things that easy you wouldn’t be in this situation to begin with. So she describes your target and his whereabouts, and warns you that he might have already predicted your arrival. She wishes you luck, and while she could probably grant you a blessing the fact that hers was a divine power might end up affecting you negatively. Even then, you would have rejected her gift-By the way she talks about him, you doubt it will take long before returning to the goddess with his head.

An unnatural swamp had formed not far from the village, as if this was another world separated from the beautiful greenery that once surrounded you. The smell of rot was strong, the feeling of eyes staring at both made you slightly wary, warning Ayame to be quick on her feet yet careful where she steps. But despite it all, you manage to navigate through this forest of death, little by little, getting deeper into the heart of these lands without so much as the usual random bug bothering you.

“My my, I can sense the aura of my beloved boss all over your clothing, Mister Youkai.”

Vines and fungus gathered, much like a certain lesser woman’s spell, but this one gathering into a disgusting barely-humanoid shape, a face much like a snake’s forming upon this pillar of swamp life.

“I guess she’s onto me now, but that doesn’t matter! Listen well, I will become the new god of the village, and if you show your respect and kneel before me I can give you a hefty tribute in your na-”

You do not let him finish, your claws rendering the vegetation in seconds. That water goddess was already playing with fire, and it was out of a whim that you decided to help her. But this one, he was way over his own head if he thought you were going to give him so much as the satisfaction of hearing his conditions. Prostrate? Towards this plebeian that can only dream of ruling that patch of dirt? The very thought revolted you.

“Ah, then I guess it’s death for you. It was…nice meeting you, Mister Youkai.”

It was almost as if the swamp came to life, for the ground beneath you quaked, the disgusting water that surrounded you exploded in Youki, all the while the nauseating smell became even stronger. Ayame had to restrain her mouth from returning breakfast, while your own mental strength was enough to steel you through the smell-even if you had to cover your nose with your sleeve. What emerged from the pillars of water were beasts that resembled fish given the qualities of men, as tall as you, and even wielding makeshift weapons. They were several in number, to the point where you couldn’t even count them, their nauseous appearance being something you’d rather not look at.

“Remember the name of Daija, for that is the name of the god that will defeat you, GO, MY MINIONS!” The pieces of fungus that conformed his mouth moved, giving the orders to the lesser beings. Your sole reminding him once more of his place in the food chain.

He must have believed that he had strength in numbers, for these brainless creatures were quick to try and draw first blood. Lifting and swinging their weapons in amateurish manners as they either ran or slid on the mossy ground. You drew your blade, while Ayame managed to regain herself-at the very least, having something else to focus other than the pungent smell, getting on a fighting stance behind you.

Your eyes gazed at these makeshift youkai, unamused by their unappealing appearance. Your hands move quickly, your claws tearing them apart as if they were made out of thin air. Ayame didn’t have much trouble either, her kicks and punches, while lacking that elegance and precise movements martial artists pride themselves about, her raw strength was still enough to put a big dent in their numbers.

Among the fish youkai you catch a weird glint coming off one of the trees, and while you would’ve disregarded that as anything unimportant in less annoying times, considering how this was an assassination mission and not merely decimating their population you move through the horde of literal food, sending bodies flying all over the place-Taking several on your wake before the first target’s body ever hits the floor as you focus on that single point. You’ve grown to trust your instincts over the years, and they screamed that there was something there. After all, unloyal youkai often rely on tricks.

“Hey! Wait for me!”

Of course, Ayame couldn’t keep up with your speed, yet she had proved herself somewhat useful if momentarily as a barricade, as your legs rocket you through their numbers, backing up a closed fist and then launching it full force against the bark of the tree. Something white managed to launch itself off before your target became nothing but burning splinters.

“You damn insect! My minions, dispose of him already!”

Wearing clothing that befitted a lord, a pearly white snake emerged from the shadows. So this was him, uh? The goddess was more threatening than this excuse of a “youkai lord”. You assumed a single movement from your claws to be enough to turn him into dust, the problem was getting past these annoying things.

“Beloved mother of water, grant these followers of mine the protection of the divine!”

A chant was shouted, and so the fodder gained forms much thicker. Their soft and goofy features becoming sharper, their scales gaining a new luster, their muscles growing so fast some of their limbs just go as far as exposing their flesh, as if their scales were merely but clothing underneath them, ready to explode.

“Hahaha! If you thought this fight was far from over, you are mistaken!”

The beasts rampaged, their hunger apparent. He wasn’t lying, they were a far cry from those pathetic excuses from before, their weapons were raised again, and even the wind seemed to follow the arc they drew. But while those abhorrent beasts threw their entire being into their attack, your right hand slowly wrapped around your new addition. In one swing, you managed to parry their attack, pushing them with enough force as to gain enough space to maneuver around and basically fillet them. The sword in your hand throbbed, asking for blood, be it from human or youkai-You could feel its lust, its wrath, its hatred and how it relished upon those negative emotions, even attempting to overtake your senses, trying to force you into a killing rampage. The blade by itself wasn’t that different from your regular, run-of-the-mill katana, yet a faint miasma of death permeated.

“Mmh, not bad.”

The blade did not chip nor lost neither its luster nor sharpness after slicing through fat and tissue-As if that bloodlust retroactively kept it sharp, that is, as long as its wielder was strong enough to make good use of it and to fend off the sword’s will. You smiled, it was as if you had saved it from a life of misery and mediocrity.

They were relentless, as your sword did its best to parry their attacks. It seems the closer you got to the snake deity, the stronger these creatures become. Ayame quickly managed to catch up to you, mostly because you saw yourself halting, having to dodge and block an incoming rain of hits.

“Oh mother of the deep, bless your children with divine armor!”

Their bodies gained a new luster as their colors darkened. They were growing in strength, and at any moment now it seemed as if their muscles were going to bursts out their scales.

I am slow, pls don't bully

You manage to get back on your tempo, your wrist moving gracefully while your blade slices them as if you were but mere ingredients away from making sushi. Sadly, your once gorefest had stalled, and while their bodies still dropped by the dozen, it was still not enough by your own self-imposed standards. Ayame’s kicks sent the random fish towards the snake youkai, but his slender body coupled with his odd agility made him a rather hard target to aim at.

“Now now, I’d rather if we finished this soon. I am a busy youkai, you see, there are many curses here waiting to be unleashed and I really have no time for a muscle head like you. ”

”Oh! Mother of our beloved swamp. Grant me your essence, let me impregnate you very being and bring forth the child of chaos”

The bodies of the fish people bursts into several torrents of blood, all accumulating atop their regal commander. The blood, holding evils born from this place, began to take shape. A bulbous body with several wart-like protrusions had eight thick tentacles emerge from it. Crimson orbs appearing at what you could assume to be its head. The whole thing…you found it repulsive. Not sure if as repulsive as its master, but right about there.

“NOW, WITNESS! My beloved creature, squash the intruder!”

Those odd limbs moved, their looming shape rapidly coming closer to you.

For what’s basically just a ton of fish youkai combined into one, this thing had turned out to be more challenging than you initially expected. Your body danced away from the clashing tentacles that shattered the ground below, with each being followed by another one in such a rapid succession even your sharp senses had to be aided with an even sharper sense of intuition. Ayame was, unfortunately not as fast and had devoted herself into dodging at every opportunity. At the very least, you didn’t need to be wholly focused on all eight limbs.

An obvious mistake. For the very moment you lowered your guard, your sword ready to chop off the head of the so-called “priest”, the tentacles that once backed Ayame into a corner shoot towards your back. That moment of hesitation between wherever to attack or block the incoming attack was enough to make them surround your form in no time, while their sisters helped in creating a bigger prison for you.

“Hahaha, foolish imbecile! My corrosive cell will-”

You could feel it, you could smell it, how it surrounded your form and attempted to choke you, pressing against your limbs and trying to dissolve you as fast as it could. To have such a disgusting thing all over you…You’ve had enough. Your eyes turned crimson, your features gaining fur as well as mass. This was the poison he was prideful of? Pathetic. But you wanted to grant this youkai’s wish, to see poison that surpasses this thin fakery. If you weren’t so pissed you might’ve laughed at his pathetic face once that ball of poisonous youki exploded into a pillar of your own, your ever-growing form emerging from it.Your beastly figure took almost no time to completely form itself, now as big as the creature the priest had summoned.

“You…! What the hell are you!?” The priest shouted, clearly distraught by the sudden turn of events “It doesn’t matter! My creation, attack!”

Your maws opened, your body producing a large amount of poison that accumulated within your throat. In a moment’s instance, you released a wave that hit both the priest and the queer octopus-like creation, the body of the snake quickly losing its scales and becoming a crimson noodle of writhing pain. If it had not been for that annoying thing suddenly deploying its own poison, he would’ve disintegrated in the act. Thus both poisons clash, the eight tentacles combining into a lance that attempted to strike at your open maws, while you released a powerful torrent of your own miasma.

And yet, the creature had a hidden ace. The snake priest began to chant and soon enough, the rotten vegetation rose-At least, the one that managed to survive the sheer combination of both poisons. You felt something wrapping around your maws, and in an instant closing them shut. A second was all it took for you to release yourself, a second that the beast took to try and pierce your head, but you managed to dodge a fatal blow and instead, was pierced on your right shoulder.

You felt the venom running through your veins, and thankfully your sheer size was enough to mitigate it and eliminate it. Still, you weren’t exactly happy to allow an inferior species a blow on your body.

The youkai priest thought he had gained the upperhand on you, and forced its entity to attack you with neither rhyme nor reason. That last hit was more out of a strike of luck rather than anything else, and for him not to bank on that and try and get you by surprise-Well, at the very least that means this will end faster than you had expected. Then again, with that last wound you really expected your prey to use his head a bit more. Your claws render the poisonous body, liquefy the tentacles going your way and create an indention on the rapidly regenerating body. Considering how agitated the priest became as the body of his creation was more and more exposed to you, you found yourself getting your claws stuck on something-Crystal in feel and shape. You brought your limb down and felt the youki of the fish youkai bursting from said core-covering your face with that disgusting scent. The creature was fueled by such a thing, so upon getting shattered it all became but gunk that rained upon the ground-gunk that the snake priest tried to escape from but found himself too slippery.

“Ah…Ah..!” And once more he saw your humanoid form, blood trickling from your shoulder to your sleeve, painting the moss bellow red. Your crimson eyes staring death at the culprit. “F-forgive m-!”

You had forgotten that Ayame was not exactly immune to your poison, and she ended up needing the antidote. Her limping body being held by the tallest tree’s branches. Luckily, your blood mixed with your own youkai acted as one-Even if it only worked for your own specialized poison, at the very least it saved the trouble of searching for a cure or having to ask to the goddess- If she could even cure others from your poison.

“You know, you could’ve warned me beforehand.” You remained silent, her dissatisfaction being heard from behind you. “…Still, to have a giant other form. Who are you, exactly?”

“…I am the rightful owner of the Western Lands.”

“Ah, I see I see so you are-Eh!?”

Ayame’s steps became mute, and you could feel her gaze pointed at you-a bit sharper than usual. It seemed like she wasn’t exactly convinced-Or rather, if she could even digest what was proclaimed so nonchalantly, not even acknowledging her as you continued on with your path, not even waiting for her. As if nothing she could say nor do could disturb you. But you could hear a sigh leaving her lips, smell the floral scent from her locks being brushed and finally hear the growing steps that soon joined yours as if nothing had happened. Now, however, instead of walking behind you she decided to walk besides you, giving you a suspicious glare.

“…Ueh, you stink.”

“Do you want to join him?”

You cover yourself with a regular yukata that’s but two shades of brown that harshly clash with your silver/opaque features. The owner of this temple’s servants were quick to prepare a rather elaborate bath for you, the bare minimum that useless goddess could provide for you considering you arrived at her door smelling like literal death. At least the severed head of that priest and the smell of his entrails waffling from your claws made it impossible for her not to at least give more than what was dealt. So you make your way to the main room where the goddess awaited, her small figure sitting at the opposite side of the room, with a large bottle filled with sake and some swords that weren’t exactly of your liking in front of her.

“As promised, your reward.”

You sit in front of your so called reward, and while your hand accepts the bottle and the plate-like cup, your other brings one of the katanas, wrapping your fingers around the blade-and squishing it as if it was made out of a feeble material.

“Ah, my bad. I seem to recall asking for swords, not toys.”

“To treat the gifts of a god like this...If those are of your displease then you’ll have to forgive the fact that this is not the warring village you expected it to be, youkai.”

“Then I hope you at the very least have something more than these toothpicks, Water deity.”

Her shoulders lower as she’s somewhat annoyed by your insistence. But regardless, she stands up and walks to one of the closets, taking from their insides a small wooden box, approaching you from the side, gifting it to you. You are skeptical about its contents as you take it, but you smile as you stare at what laid inside. A block of water youkai, remains of some strong youkai crystalized into an ore that are usually worked into different objects. Not exactly what you were looking for, but a pleasant addition to your items nonetheless.

“Very well, the transaction is complete. Now, answer me this, what has brought you upon my lands? Do not think I haven’t noticed…”

You open the lid of the bottle and pour a small amount of sake onto your cup, bringing it upon your lips and savoring the richness of it. At least it was better than the trash she called “swords”, palatable even.

“Do not play dumb with me, youkai!” Her scorn slides off your body as you take another sip. “Youkai with your strength are rare, dog youkai capable of switching form so easily even more so! I could feel your bloodlust back there, If you’ve come here for-!“

“If you wish to talk, join me for some sake. Also, DO lower your voice, it is annoying me.” Your eyes closed, your fingers pour another shot.

“…Is this a joke to you?”

“Had I wished to harm you or your residents, I would’ve done so already.” The goddess does not waver in her strange distaste for you, but she sits at your side as one of her hands produce a cup.

You sport a blush from the amount of sake you’ve drank, but other than that there's nothing different about you. In fact, it is rather weird to see a water “deity” such as herself losing to alcohol. She started to talk about so many random things, mainly things that frustrated her-Be it the usual youkais drawn by the ever-growing population of her village, which she has to smite almost every day, the annoying fact that one of her subordinates attempted several assassination attempts on her, and even the many things she needed to provide to her humans-And a lot of other things that basically ended up with several empty gourds scattered all over the floor and a very drunk woman sleeping against a wall. You take one of the gourds and fill it to the brim with the leftover sake, something “small” for the trip.

He already knows it's for crafting. Looks like we're on a journey to gather parts and look for a blacksmith.

You leave the woman to relax, by her many complaints this might be the closest she has been to having a peaceful rest. Your feet slowly take you through the corridors of the temple, often catching the small glimpse of the moon through the opened windows or doors. It is not a cold night, nor is it hot-pleasant is what you’d call it.

“Sesshomaru?”

You end up meeting with Ayame halfway through one of the many halls. Her way of covering herself with the provided yukata is…questionable. Unfixed, letting one of her legs and arms bare as well as part of her chest and belly, with bandages covering her breasts as if she was some kind of low-life. Well, you tried to at least help her look presentable when you visited the human village. There’s no helping it if she reverts to her barbarian self from time to time.

“…How are you feeling?”

“Quite full actually. I ate till my belly was bursting, and the bath was great.” Ayame laughed as she tapped on the exposed part of her belly. “Oh, you smell of alcohol my lord, were you drinking?”

“...Unfortunately.” Could have been more peaceful without that annoying pipsqueak.

You close your eyes as now that you knew Ayame was healthy enough as to crack those kind of jokes, you decide to leave her be. But her steps quickly approach yours.

“Well my lord, what should we do now?”

What now indeed?
>Return to the Water Goddess (“…Drunkard.”)
>Leave (“Let’s get our stuff and leave…”)

“It is late already, going out will only attract unwanted attention.” You reply, stopping on your tracks. “We shall rest here.”
-
Morning arises, and the two of you walk out of the entrance gate. The goddess followed behind you, but stopped at the last step of the staircase that leads to her temple.

“I have thought ill of you, yet you’ve done no evil and rather, you’ve aided me in such an important matter.” The so-called deity slowly bows to you both, a polite smile now directed towards you instead of that suspicious glare. “In fact, if you ever wish to rest do not mind using my abodes. Hopefully, if need arises, I hope you can once more lend me your strength.”

“Hmph.” You said nothing as you kept walking

“Thank you, the food was delicious!” But Ayame decided to say more than she should, returning the bow and waving at the goddess as she ran to your side. Seems she got bought by the sushi.

The path from the wilderness to her temple had several farms and houses in between, and while your late return had slipped most of the villager’s eyes now that it was a new day you could feel their stares. Fear, most of them. Your ears however, pick a strange rumor.

“…Band of the seven?”

“To think that tyrant would ever go as far as to hire that group of mercenaries.”

“Youkai or armies alike, as long as that Lord has them I fear of what might happen if I see his banner coming our way.”

“They are youkai, I tell you! My friend saw them once when he was visiting his friend’s village. They have a warrior who is as tall as a building! And their leader holds a weapon bigger than a horse! They are monsters I tell you! Monsters.”

>Keep listening. (“Interesting…”)
>Return to the Water Goddess Temple (“Should’ve done something else…?”)
>Go straight to the bear’s cave (“I wonder if…”)
> Go to Hikaru Village (“Those shinobi...”)
>Go to the Wolf Tribe Mountains (“Ayame’s clan…”. ) (Scent: Thin)
