Everwood Civ Thread #19

Welcome to Everwood Civ! In this game you shall take control of a fledgling nation as you attempt to navigate the dangerous world of Everwood! In this world dominated by dark woods filled with wonder and terror will you be able to guide your civilization into prosperity or ruin?

>Discord Link

----

The Everwar has begun in full force with the hateful hordes of Beastmen pouring out from the Woods and the arrival of unlikely allies from the East. Will you hold the line and cleanse this world from corruption or succumb to the tide of hate that would wash away the sins of the world.

Year 201 First Half

All seems quite along the fronts with the sieges becoming a rather mundane affair for all involved. That is till one dark night in the autumn from which a horrible upthrust of earth tears the river in half and with a horde of beastmen hot on it's heels! The flow of the great river has been diverted by Goodthinker and his mages flooding the surrounding countryside with the Beastmen surging across the slowly emptying riverbed! A new horde of Beastmen has also emerged at Crel's wall and men report seeing horrible corrupted titans walking among the army.

What are your commands?
>>
>>3860338
Gather all the female mages we can so that they can undo the beastmen’s spell. All the forces in the region from locations such as Sollus Point and Thresu will defend the riverbed to buy time for our warlocks work. Request the Iceborn to aid us in this.
>>
>>3860338
Do what we can to cycle the earth and moisture to turn the riverbed into an utter quagmire making crossing a slow and dangerous affair. Use what forces we can to count fly/drive by their mages holding the river blockage up so that we can re-release the river and wash away the beasts?

>At the Crel Wall I propose the following.

1) The twisted titans are coming we know this, they will have likely taken note of our firepower and where its placed. Carefully we will have to reposition our heavy support so it can't as easily be targeted

2) The key lies in identifying them and their capacities, from all our own work on Titans are we aware of ways they can short circuit or overload?

3) Standard reinforce and prep for the beasties climbing up the titans like ladders.

If we're doing this, the War Wagons will assist by kiting along the edge of the Quagmire and shooting at the foe while providing some cover. Avoiding actually going into the Quagmire itself obviously.
>>

This too

Have our artillery aim at the cores of the titans to expose them, and have our mages use Soulfire to destroy the cores, deactivating the titans.

The army moves forward to stop the tide of Beastmen whilst the warlocks gather to cast a massive earth shattering spell to break the dam! It will take some time as the spell cast by the beastmen was created to be a difficult as possible to break. It seems this horde is not just lead by Goodthinker but instead a massive shambling root infested corpse advances with the frontline!

The Corpse of Chernoboros stretches out it's hand with a single snap causes a thousand Iceborn to develop horrible tumors and fallen screaming to the ground. The Beastmen tear into your lines overwhelming those at the front. Your mages are still scrambling to finish the spell but your lines are buckling and advancing dangerously towards their position. During one of his flybys Sunblighter is hit with a massive corrupted ice bolt tearing into his flesh and causing him to crash within the horde. Daedalus II is reeling at his command with the sheer chaos and intensity of this battle threatening to overwhelm him.

This battle is nearly becoming a complete route! The Elder Nahautl has been gravely injured leading his pack in rescuing Sunblighter who is also nearing death! Only the Iceborn forces are stopping the tide of Beastmen to from completely overwhelming you! In this chaos Daedelius was knocked out by a "rogue" wagon and Balder Attenius, the Pale Rider has assumed command! He strides to the front lines his axe smoldering in his hand, his voice bellowing across the battlefield!

The line holds some areas even pressing back the tide however the amounts of causalities you have taken at this point are staggering and exhausted men often fall due to the sheer number of horror. The warlocks report that they are have nearly completed their spell but many Brightlords report that they can't keep fighting like this and even the Clanlord Thorfinn suggests that we retreat.

The plan is simple, slowly withdraw from the riverbed to bait more and more into the riverbed whilst the Warseer summons a storm. The storm is quickly summoned, as if the rage within this battlefield was fueling it. With a single outstretched hand the Warseer summons a bolt of brilliant green lightening from the sky which descends to strike the massive corpse of Chernoboros! For the very first time the thing screams in agony at the attack withdrawing from the frontlines! The soothing rain begins to fall easing the aches and pains of the Legionnaires and pissing off the Iceborn who wonder why you would wish to make this battlefield even more hellish.

However, the war has become even more perilous! From the very earth outside of Rayanport the army of Belinlos has risen! Ten thousand men supported by a great titan and Tarrex himself! It seems the time for gods to walk the earth has arrived!

In the east the Tojo Armada has arrived in the Wine-Dark Sea demanding that you stop the ritual in the name of Tojo or face their wrath!

What are you orders?

Navy:
Deploy our navy to engage the Tojo Armada. 200 Quinquiremes and 50 Galleys should sort them out. The other 50 Quinquiremes will be patrolling the waters. The Iceborn can help us if they wish by providing Bio titan support.
The Champion of Yeshu will be in command, Tevian Neorah will be supporting him there.

Zone 6:
Our eternal enemy is at the gates! Every man and woman shall be given the proper arms to protect themselves. The soldiers in Zone 6 (29,625 Standard Soldiers, 55,000 Pygmies) shall aid in their defense. Triton shall be moved into the lake of Merli before
Tarrex. Koriander and Tobias are in charge of protecting the place. The Marines will also support the forces there. [REDACTED] is also being deployed (Eric). The Widows of the Carregs (Their nuns with guns) will also be deployed

Across the battlefield things are beginning to crumble, instead of falling back at the sight of the defeated beast they seem inspired and will do all they can to end you lives! In the distance you can see Tarrex and Hephaestus finishing off the Bio-Titan! This battle is near hopeless but you have to stop them somehow!

Of the coast of Dosmir the two fleets face off with grim determination both condemned by their gods to this bloody affair. Lookouts report the ethereal form of Hojido perched upon the mast of the Tojo flagship, in the water around the eastern fleet swarm strange creatures formed from the corruption of the Everwood harnessed by this madman. The number of vessels is in your favor, your sailors are the most skilled in the world and the One Below with his children support you, this will surely be an easy battle! The Tojo fleet has assumed a defensive positioning hoping to whittle down your numbers by forcing you to attack,

What are your orders Commander?
>>
>>3882056
Although someone else is in command, it appears they are inactive right now, somI shall propose a course of action.

We shall divide our forces into 2 even groups while the Tojo fleet remains in defensive position. If the Tojo fleet remains in it’s defensive position them our forces will capture them in a pincer movement and be able to overwhelm.
>>
>>3882056

skirmish them from a far thanks to the range of our weaponry, for the moment avoid melee.

verify with our mages if their god is present with them in their fleet.
>>
>>3882075
Balder was in the VC last night, his assessment is correct and I support it.

From what I also remember, we are to avoid boarding actions as much as possible and try to leverage our superior firepower and mobility, "kiting" and bombarding them from a distance.

If this is not correct, someone say so.

The pincer is a great success as on both sides the navy crashes into the flanks of the Tojo formation. However the bloodiest of the fighting is underwater as your angelshark schools face off against the myriad of twisted creatures. Hojido stands for his perch raising his hands above his head causing a thick choking fog begin to roll out from his position. The fog seems to attack your men forcing its way into their lungs and stealing their breath away. The One Below surges forward supporting from below by throwing hundreds of Hojido’s monsters into his gullet at a time but they seem near limitless in numbers.

The battle is quickly turning into a slaughter, the pitiful navy of Tojo cannot stand up against the divine fury of your sailors and not to mention the pure superiority of your fleet. However it is Hojido himself that is proving the main foe on this battlefield. His choking mists leave entire ships twistin in agony whilst his horrors below drag sailors to their doom. The One Below emerges within the centre of the Tojo navy smashing dozens of ships with it’s pure bulk and dislodging Hojido from his command position!

It has been another hard year for the Empire with losses on all sides and new threats seemingly emerging every day. In the east were Hojido has been allowed free reign a new blight Everwood has emerged and has grown at a rapid pace having nearly overtaken all of Dosmir. Munitions stockpiles are getting lower by the day and once they have run out defending Crel’s Wall will be near impossible. The beastmen have also constructed thousands of rafts and will likely soon try a massive crossing over the Isabella River.

As the war situation grows dim some students of the Magical Academy of Loslina gather in a classroom. Their number was predominantly female as the most promising males had long since been called to the fronts. Their uniforms belies the seriousness of their discussions in these dark days. The strength of their resolve to do something before it is too late was flowering into something. In the studied history of the worshipers of Galoris it is clear that great individuals are needed as spear and shield of the standing forces. "There is something we can do, we can become the Magic Knights of Raywood. Spear and Shield of the people. A standing Order of mage knights strengthened by the bonds of friendship and soul they share. There can be no future until it is won." They embrace as they prepare to leave the warm confines of the Academy and all they've known and begin preparing for war. Led by Elisheva, a water attuned mage whose great empathy has pushed her to make this stand.

FPs to;
1 Gather/Train their Academy Mages.
2 Form soulbonds, 10 to a mage and housed with the aid of the current systems in place. More if our youth affords us a closeness to magic and the chance to grow.
3 Arm themselves with as much magic weapons and armor and equipment as possible, we will seek the aid of Daedelius with this.

The overall goal is to form a small, mobile, elite group. Not to stand in formation but to be able to move from zone to zone and front to front as a group specializing in counter-attacks.
>>
>>3882205
Quick amendment, replace Empathy with APATHY (typo my bad). They actually want to watch people and nonhumans SUFFER. The counter-attack specialty is because they don't want to be on the frontlines with other people and just cause as much damage as possible while leaving the job of dying to the other units.*
>>
>>3882194
H/E.

We will be taking Loans out from the Bank of Samir to fund this project. We will set a payment plan where we will delay payment until after the Everwar where we can figure out how to cover this all.

We'll begin to kick our economy out of a civilian/peacetime Economy into a wartime economy.

There are many people in the refugee camps doing basically nothing. In this time of war we cannot let our civilians become lax. They will be transported to areas where they can do one of the following.

1. Farm, to improve our food stockpiles so that we do not run out of food.
2. Work in the Smithies, to produce more weapons, arms, and armor. If we run out of munitions, we will die.
3. Support the war effort logistically by acting as manual labor. Transporting goods, constructing fortifications, etc.

To help stretch our supplies, we will begin rationing products that need to be used on the frontlines rather than at home. This includes scarce resources.

The Guild immediately begins offloading their impressive stock, and focusing on production of as many new enchanted weapons as possible. A large loan is taken from the Bank of Samir with the promise that it would be repaid after the end of the Everwar. As the bank would like to continue existing they are glad to give it out. With funds secure a proper Ministry of Wartime Affairs is created with the purpose of handling your economy! This would have been much more effective and easy to implement before the war but your officials make due with what they have. However the economy is no longer faltering and has even had some semblance of recovery! Many refugees are slowly being taken off the mainland and to the less populated isles like Dragon’s Graveyard.

However something else has also happened, Balder Attenius has abandoned the front! No one knows where he has gone and the northern army is near breaking. Lightkeeper Neatar Neas takes control over the front as the massive crossing begins!

Messengers are sent out to both the Iron Kingdom and Yepes requesting aid to fight back the horde of Beastmen. If they will come to your aid only time will tell.

However across the Empire there are much more pressing concerns. The Beastman Horde lead by Goodthinker has stopped following your retreating army and is instead heading straight for Samir or more likely Crel's Wall.

What are your orders?
>>
>>3882530
The men at Bloodsoil and Crel's Wall, as well as anywhere else in the east will make a full retreat to the City of Samir. Citizen Militias will act as a rear guard, hopefully to slow down the beastmen. They will be also allowed to retreat to the City of Samir.

Any Cavalry still remaining will skirmish and attempt to slow down the Beastman Horde to give our men i nthe east more time.

Civilian Vessels will be conscripted and deployed to help transport people across any rivers and hasten the evacuation.

If the city itself is too full to accommodate soldiers then we will evacuate civilians out of there and move them to other islands where they can farm or smith or whatever else we need.

The rear guard fighting is horrific as militias do their best to buy time for the retreat of the professional soldiers. Losses begin to mount quickly as the never ending horde of Beastmen.

Losses:
100,000 Militia
50,000 Legionaries
80,000 Pygmies
10 Stormknights

The City of Samir however is a fortress like no other with massive stores of food and supplies! If there is a city that can hold against the Everwood it is this one! It seems the Governor of Salvitas has also arrived with five thousand men armed to the gills with enchanted weaponry and a single huge siege cannon he calls the "Blight of Chernoboros". At the same time a new Pale Rider has arrived from the Attenius family, this one is known as Caden Attenius, the son of Balder.

With tears in his eyes, Koriander stands up. He reaches into one of his pockets and throws down the amulet of his descendant Evander.
“That was my great-grandson’s amulet. Evander Thleech. He died only a couple years ago fighting in your damned war, Galoris. And he didn’t even have a choice. Do you know what he was told when he said he didn’t want to fight? My family would be have everything taken from them. And many more have done so, just like him. They died so that my family can survive. Have you no shame, woman? Do you think this little session and your appearance would make things better? My family is dying because of you! My descendants....so many of them are dead fighting your war! No one wanted this affair! Ever since you signed that pact with Enoch, I guess this was just meant to happen?”

Koriander then turns from Galoris and looks to the others
“We are slaves! The priests have lied to you all. This woman has bound us all to her service, ever since the First King gave us over like cattle to her for power. This is a damned farce, and she knows it! Do you even know what you’ve done, woman? Entire cities lie in ruins. Your former comrade Hojido rages across our seas, your comrade Tarrex bides his time to strike at us. Millions of men lie dead, and by the end of the day many more will join them. All because of this accursed ritual. Please, you have to stop this before it’s too late. My family’s going to die. I’m going to die. All you have to do is stop this. We shouldn’t have to fight this war for you. We shouldn’t be slaves for you to order around when you so please. It was greed and ambition that led to your downfall, it doesn’t have to lead to ours. We already have an empire, we don’t need the Everwood. I beg of you, please. Stop this.”

Gaeda having watched a number of Questions and answers speaks up again.

"Galoris, I am a practised mage and i will continue to hone my craft such that it is but I have a question-" *he reveals the design for a strange runic sphere* "-is there a way that you could point me to a way to maintain a soul's memories so that if i create this those who regenerate will not lose what makes them them? In a similar manner to your projection of other things..."

he pauses for a few moment.

"Now I will say something that..i worry may cause offence and I'm truly sorry if I do. I know a lot of what has been lost to history, frankly i'm sure the vast majority of those gathered here in this hall know. As mentioned earlier your past...but from the son trying to redeem his own past for a better future to a Goddess doing similar on a abet grander scale....I guess i'm trying to say, it's ok? we all do things and now you are trying to make them right, you really are a Goddess...and from the bottom of my heart and you might not care for it. We forgive and move beyond the past, thank you for everything..thank you for being an example for us all to set things right."

He stays knelt

"I have long wanted to be a good man, but thinking of being a good man leads to hollow action its merely trying to act like its something you by, so I wanted to say that because its in my heart and for the first time in a long time not some ploy nor bargain to redeem myself or name."

(After Gaeda has received his answer and risen, Elisheva approaches)

"Mage Gaeda. I am a student of magic and war from Loslina. I am leading other students in forming an order of knights to fight in these dark times. No one can live free, but I would make every effort to keep the youngest and brightest from perishing before they can truly flourish. We would make a mobile force that could move from front to front as needed, but this high degree of strain and investment means that any casualty greatly diminishes us. The only means to cope with this is to mold a force out of man's greatest weapons, and as Galoris has spoken, strengthening the limits of man's soul."

She glances towards the other lords.

"We have the support of the Guild of Magical Technology and their leader Daedelius, perhaps others, and hopefully the military economy to fund the war, but even between us we have very few written guidelines on how to best apply their magic and runic support. Every moment before we march is weighed in gold and lives, please, if you have time grant us your support and experience."
