Hi Skargan!

A quick recap on the current situation:

We are currently controlling Chaplain Axon, who is on an expeditionary mission to recover our brother Elegion from the Ghoul Stars and accompanied by a tactical squad under the jump-pack & power axe equipped Sgt Reidor.

On the way there, we suffered a geller field malfunction and found ourselves temporarily stranded above a long-lost world inhabited by primitive humans.

We landed and investigated, interrupting a sacrificial ritual, and the people rejoiced. However they also spoke of an ancient ‘deal’ by which they regularly sacrificed a portion of their number to keep the planet safe.

The father of the local cathedral showed us the ancient relics beneath the building, including strange green metallic objects.
At that point we were ambushed by Eldar of Craftworld Alaitoc, who pinned us down within the church
.
We negotiated a ceasefire and the squad left the rear of the cathedral. We began talking with the leader of the eldar party, Ylvar, First of the Guardians of the Red Yan Spire.

Then in the middle of our negotiations, this occurred:

>Suddenly, the whole place erupts into chaos as shouts once again come from the church. Screaming, dozens of humans that were still hiding in the cathedral, pour out into the plaza. Eldar were too high strung for something like this. Their elegant weapons woke up and sent streaming energy, plasma and rounds straight into the crowd of panicking civilians.
>Ancient alien weaponry tore through flesh faster than people could realise what was happening - out of the few dozens within seconds less than a handful remained alive, mostly screaming in agony and pain on the floor of the plaza where just recently festival took place. You could see their blood mixing with flower petals on the ground that were left by the celebration.
>As the echoes of the guns firing fall silent, you realise what they were running from - a dark figure emerges from the dark entrance of the church.
>>
>>3875158
>>3875160
Meanwhile, back in Sector Deus, the only current event was Trianon’s pursuit of the MIA Operation Stormchaser. Aboard Ghosts’ Lance, he had followed the MIA mission’s trail to the Tarantis System in Sector Gothic. There he found the battle barge of the Storm Dragons Chapter, Tempestia Draconis.
Chapter Master Dravion told Trianon over the vox that Stormchaser had visited them less than three years before. After learning about the Storm Dragons, Stormchaser headed towards the Dark Hunters chapter in the Mahara Sector. Which was about when Stormchaser went MIA.
Other smaller & finicky objectives & queries will be brought up once Axon’s side-mission comes to a close.

>>3875160
As a response to the current situation however:
Retrieve weapon, guarded stance, face the new threat.
"Control your fire you fools!"

"Reidor, prepare to assault the plaza from behind the church. A new threat has arrived. Wait for my signal."

Reidor nods in response and follows your command.

Eldar take control of themselves and focus on the emerging figure.

It is tall, gaunt and dark as the heart of night.

In the depths of it's vaguely humanoid skull, green lights are glowing.

Do you:
>Open fire, call Eldar to open fire as well
>Charge into close combat, he'll make a fine trophy
>Order him to halt and hope he understands
>Fire a warning shot

Ylvar looks intently at the shape and then hisses:
>Far from it. Fire!!!

Eldar line unleash a volley of fire on the shape coming out of the church. Their fire, normally extremely lethal against human targets, as it was just demonstrated, in this case bounced and ricocheted off the thick xeno-armour. A few impacts pushed the shape back a couple of steps, until one found a chink in the armour and penetrated, releasing an electrical discharge of greenish energy. In response, the dark xeno warrior emitted a screeching sound and collapsed onto one knee, wounded, but not defeated. A moment later, a dozen others appear in the doorway, these carry glowing weapons that seem have a shape of very heavy rifles and a battle begins in earnest.

Please indicate what do you try to do:
>Join the Eldar and supress the enemy with your fire
>Try to move out of the crossfire and distance yourself from the battlefield, safety of your men is a priority
>Show those filthy xenos (both of them) how it's done - CHARGE!

We have to keep these fuckers in the bottleneck of the cathedral entrance.

With any luck that'll buy the time for those wraithbone-fuckers to call reinforcements if more green warriors keep rising.

Thoughts?

>>
>>3875269
throw frag grenades at the clustered enemies
>>

>>3875269
Okay okay.

We could also lay down suppressing fire and have Reidor's squad move around the cathedral from both sides and hit the robots with ranged fire from both sides.
While doing this too of course >>3875280
Frags from the corners of the cathedral should do well.

What do we think?

>>
>>3875281
>>3875284
We should focus fire and grenades around the entranceway from all possible angles to try and collapse it.
>>
I would like to remind everyone that you also have Azerion perched atop one of the nearby buildings with a modified bolter, capable of sniping.

Also, Reidor has a jump-pack and a power axe.

When you will decide what you do, please roll d100.
>>
>>3875299
Okay. I think we should take cover with the eldar and return fire.

Meanwhile Reidor and his squad (minus Azerion) move around either side of the cathedral from behind and hit the robots from the sides as they come out of the entrance. Make sure we throw plenty of frags and try to collapse the entranceway.

Meanwhile Azerion should try not to expose his position for now, wait until a more choice singular target presents itself.

Thoughts guys? Shall we roll?
>>
>>3875299
Jump Reidor on the entrance, let him lob grenades in there.
Have azerion make sure nobody comes out before that.
Eldar + Chaplain should be able to handle 1 necron.
>>
>>3875299
>>3875299
can we identify a leader of sorts due to gear, symbols or behaviour?
>>
>>3875304
the eldar are not our friends
i suggest to keep an eye on them and not to turn our backs towards them
>>
>>3875310
Well, we can always just do absolutely nothing andlet the eldar die while they fight the crons but I'm pretty sure the crons have them outgunned and we could use some temporary allies.

Eldar fire is quite effective, but mostly because the dark xenos seem to be quite slow - these beings that Guardian leader referred to as "Necrontyr", don't seem to even try to avoid incoming fire, mostly soaking it up.

Axon focuses his fire on the kneeling figure that first appeared out of the doorway - he seems to be a leader of some sort, with a staff in his hand. Your bolt pistol is good enough to make a few dents in his armour, but otherwise he manages to hold out.

Meanwhile Reidors squad moves around the corner of the cathedral and smashes into their flank, throwing grenades and unleashing close quarters fire. Two of the necrons are caught in the middle of explosions, their pieces fly over half the battlefield. Another skull-masked xeno catches a bolt in the throat, his head explodes and an arc of green energy shoots out.

Most of the necrons focus their fire on the Eldar, but a couple also shoot at your marines and one fires at you and by Emperor's grace, misses. However Reidor's squad is not that lucky, Maredus is hit in the knee by an energy blast from a necron warrior. Power armour, bone and flesh melt and fuse. Maredus falls down still shooting, but he falls. Proctus, Apothecary, grabs him under arms and immediately drags him to cover, almost getting shot in the process as well. The rest of the squad also take among the crates and tables left on the side of the square by festivites.

As Eldar fired first, they attracted most of the fire as well. Three of them have already perished from the green blasts, but the rest fight on.

Reidor voxes you:
>Chaplain, we are pinned, if we are to destroy the entrance, we'll need to distract them or rush them, but that means losing men. Maredus is down. I can assault them from the sky, this will give Marcus enough time to lay down the explosive charge at the door. Do you copy? We need to end this quick, they are strong!
>>
>>3875361
We should go with Reidor's plan and this >>3875360
Azerion should start laying down suppression by accuracy. If he pings enough heads and chests that should definitely distract them. Make sure he takes cover before they return fire though.

You can't see it, but you would be a thousand thrones that Reidor smiles when you give him a go ahead. His jump-pack roars and half a tonne of armoured Space Marines arcs into the midst of necrons.
>NO TOMB SHALL TAKE US!
Wide swing of the power axe decapitates two closest metal skeletons, while Reidor's piruets away from incoming shots. He uses his armoured glove to grab one of their xeno-weapons and redirects it's blast into another necron. He then rips Gauss gun (as some years later Imperial scholars will designate it) from the surprised ancient alien and then proceeds to smash it's head with it, essentially dual wielding power axe and plundered Gauss rifle. Three others turn away from your squad and all concentrate on the new furious threat, but they are too late, Reidor laughs maniacally while disassembling them one chop at a time.

Marcus manages in the meantime to slip past the fray and slaps a det-pack onto one of the columns holding up the entrance. More figures are coming out of depths of the cathedral, but Azerion's well placed shot fells the one in front, then another one behind him, and gives Marcus just enough breathing space to place the charges.

>Take cover! Fire in the hole!!!

Explosion rips through the air, forcing even Reidor to take pause, before proceeding to decapitate last of the necron warriors. However, their leader is still alive...

>>3875406

You notice that necron Lord is holding his staff up and weird dust seems to be rising into the air from the remains of the fallen warriors. Suspecting danger, Axon charges forward, Crozius Arcanum in hand. You can still see Reidor on the other side of the battlefield fighting off last of the warriors. Suddenly, necron warrior you thought was killed, starts to reassemble itself in front of Axon. Chaplain bashes in it's head while running past and then charges into the necron Lord. Xeno stops whatever it was up to and starts fighting back, you exchange a flurry of blows. Suddenly, Reidor appears from the back and strikes at the Lord, distracting him for long enough so that Axon can smash his Crozius Arcanum straight into the Lord's staff-hand, dislocating it.

Necron tries to feebly counter attack, but fighting against two determined Space Marines is no easy task. You notice that Eldar fire ceases, they are giving you the benefit of the doubt. Reidor's axe get's stuck in necron's shoulder pad and he screeches, grabbing Reidor by the throat. Axon bellows:
>By the Emperor's Fury! DIE!
And Crozius Arcanum strikes necron Lord in the facemask, while activating gravitic energy field to the full capacity. Powerful energy surge disintegrates living metal and explodes ancient xeno brain into green and grey cloud of dust.

Battle is over, at least for the moment. The entrance is blocked, necron warriors are lying dead around you. Their bodies seem to be slowly falling apart into some dust-like material.
>>
>>3875451
Consolidate, regroup our forces in the square, make sure cover is deployed around the cathedral.

Make sure Maredus is moved back somewhere he doesn't need to stay mobile. Can Proctus rig a basic leg-brace for him to afford him some movement?

There's not much else we can do at present aside from wait and see what the eldar do.

Most of Eldar disappear among the ruins, while Ylvar waits for you at the edge of the battlefield.
>Well done, for a mon-keigh. Your blood debt is forgiven, for you stopped a great evil today, even if your primitive brain will not comprehend the full effects of your actions. We fought with them like equals and I can respect that. However we still have an unresolved issue that I need to ask your help with. This world, once long ago, was very important to my people, sacred even, if you will. When the Necrons were defeated and their tombs fell into slumber, we preserved it as a memorial to the battles fought here. It was good, for a time, but now the issue is that your kind arrived and started a colony here. Due to our vows to this sacred place, we cannot spill any innocent blood here, not even mon-keigh. But when there's enough living energy around, it disturbs the slumber of the dark ones. That's why the locals had to be taught to sacrifice some of their number to keep the population down. But now, you arrival and disruption of the pattern that took centuries to develop, has upset the balance. Humans are scaterred now, but they will return, repopulate and eventually the tombs will awaken once again. We cannot take this chance again. We ask for your help to exterminate them, as you are not bound by vows. In return, we shall help you in your great fight. What shall you say?

"I think we're willing to take that risk to save their lives.
Human minds are less feeble than you believe and I'm sure they're willing to take a chance rather than accept certain death.
It will be the last sacrifice to the Emperor this planet makes."
>>
>>3875489
>>3875483
>We know that you have a ship in orbit that houses thousands of humans. A few thousand more will not make a difference, if you are so intent on saving them. There are about 50 000 humans living in the cities on the planet. Here, take this map, maybe it'll help you. It is time for me to leave and for you to decide. You can choose to leave them, but we will simply find someone else who will do the job. When we will return, we will know what you chose. Farewell, mon-keigh.
Ylvar disappears into the ruins of the nearby building.

Do you:
>Evacuate all humans. Taking on 50 000 souls onto a frigate that is meant to carry 30 000 will be very problematic though.
>Evacuate humans that seem to be of usefulness as colonists - there will be around 20 000 of them, still hard, but much more manageable.
>Take only as much humans as your ship is designed to deal with on top of the crew - 5000.
>Take only the priesthood and demand them to bring their riches, books, works of art and anything of value. (800 people + d50 Wealth).
>Take no one, Emperor will take care of them
>Lance the cities
>Kill the fucker before he disappeas, Ylvar is a xeno too!
>>

Yell after Ylvar.

"Three years Eldar. We will send a ship that can take them all from this place in that time."

Also we have two frigates so I believe we can take 10,000 safely
>Take only as much humans as your ship is designed to deal with on top of the crew - 5000.
for both frigates.

I don't want to jeopardise our ships and crews with potential starvation. It's a tough but necessary call.

By the sound of it, a significant contingent of the population will be transported by the Chapter. Exact numbers will become problematic to count, as your transports will be coming back and forth, but over the next year, 30 000 + d5 x 10 000 refugees will be evacuated [roll].

Your focus on evacuating people means that there wasn't enough sace to take all of the valuable artworks or resources that you could have turned into wealth. Because of this, you manage to "liberate" only d10 worth of Wealth. You could strip-search refugees, this would get another d20 Wealth, but wouldn't make them happy.

When the new refugees arrive, there is an air of confusion among the local population. They soon earn the name of "newies". Locals react to the new world and the experience of transitioning quite traumatically, they lock themselves away from the rest of the population in ghettos and secluded parks, talking in their own dialect of the Low Gothic. Do you:

This, but I say we take advantage of the situation by encouraging the Newies to branch out to uninhabited parts of the planet like the southern islands. See what new resources and industries we can uncover over time.

or other things.
>>

Sure sure. That could be one region to send them.
I'm not thinking of any one place in particular enormously, just think we should use newies as some pioneer colonisers, start settling the farther reaches of the planet.

>Try to address situation through social policies (15W)
Would be pretty gay to create or allow any form of weakness in Varda's population separatist demagogues or chaos shits can slink into.
>>
>>3884147
My idea is that we provide some start-up funds for Newies to push our boundaries and start setting up settlements in regions we've never settled before.

For example the southern islands, southern coastline, and the forest regions south of the gas fields.

We provide some funds to help them get set up and start farming the local lands, then we can send some more technically adept folk to start prospecting the lands around successful settlements properly.

Basically a widespread pioneering effort. Let's find some new lands, some new resources, and take over some more of the planet.

Thoughts lads?

As this decision still requires investment, it will count as social policy and it will cost 10W.

Ghosts of Retribution make preparations to send Newies to colonise the coast near the Deep Jungle. They are happy with this arrangement, even if their new homes are in some danger from an occassional Ork raid. Soon, a new city emerges, with time it will be called Newon.

Guys, let's finish for tonight. Sorry for being so late tonight. Let's regroup on 28, next Monday.

Thanks for playing!
>>
>>3884223
Thanks Skarg. See you next week!

I'll post a full list of to-dos and possible paths to go from here sometime during the week.
>>
>>3884228
>>3884223
Okay so the two main paths we can go now are:

1. Continue with Chaplain Axon's adventures on the way to the Ghoul Stars to pick up Elegion.

2. Return to the main CMQ game. Where we are currently controlling Chief Librarian Trianon as he attempts to hunt down the MIA Operation Stormchaser (which was led by Codicier Damokleon).
We had tracked Stormchaser's path to the Tarantis System, where we found a Battle Barge of the Storm Dragons Chapter. The Chapter Master Dravion welcomed us and told us the following:
> My name is Dravion, I am the Chapter Master of the Storm Dragons. We have indeed received Astartes who bore the colours and name of the Ghosts of Retribution. They were very curious, but we shared with them what we could in exchange for the news from the Sector Deus. I believe that was less than three years ago, so I am surprised that another ship of yours has arrived so quickly. How else can we help you?
>They inquired about many different things and among them they asked about the chapter known as Dark Hunters. We provided limited information we ourselves had and warned them - Dark Hunters are a strange and predatory Chapter, they're not very welcoming of guests. We did not know where is their Fortress Monastery, but during our travels we have found one of their listening stations in the Mahara Sector, almost beyond the edge of Imperium. Those are wild and dangerous reaches of space. However Damoklon, I believe that was his name, informed us that their navigator detected an unusually favourable warp current in that direction and decided to go for it. As I understand they wanted to visit Dark Hunters as quickly as possible, before returning. I am guessing that you have not heard from them? Well, but we talked long enough on the comms channel. Please, come and visit, I insist.

Other matters are as follows:

1. If we do revert to Trianon we can expect the return of Axon with Elegion at some point.

2. Chapter Master and the forces he's commanding over Triot. We're continuing with cleanup efforts and before we move away I'd recommend we leave the 8th Company stationed on the planet for a few years to help them keep the Orks down. One of the 8th Company's main objectives would be to locate the Warlord Racksmasha, so we can arrange a mission to assassinate him properly.

3. Given the recent picts of the Triachy encounters from Alexander Kerr, is there anything we didn't know before, or can theorise that we couldn't before, especially their relation to the ruinous powers.
Consult Engel on these images if we haven't already and regarding the fact that the triarchy fleet contained imperial icon vessels with traitor crews, off to Lord Admiral Hagen with all of this. ESPECIALLY THE FACT THEY USE IMPERIAL ICONOGRAPHY AND MAY BE CREWED BY TRAITORS

4. Laxenos should be studying the encrypted maps that Kerr provided us with. However you mentioned that you wanted to wait for MS to confer with him regarding what the maps should be.
>>
>>3890555
We should probably finish Axon's arc first just to get that out of the way, unless there's nothing major left.
Wrecking the Warboss on Triot should be fun too, which reminded me of:
>+Shieldmaster (Confirmation pending and XP cost pending, remove XP and add effect later)
>>
>>3890555
>>3884228
>>3884223
There are also two matters regarding Varda:

1. We wanted to encourage population growth via pro-family social policies. Incentive big families. Offer tax cuts for single-earner households with 2+ children. Offer housing loans for couples of 20,000 thrones and each child they have reduces the amount they must repay by 5,000. Etc.

2. Would like to purchase Environmental Infrastructure for Varda but first we need you to approve the rules basis of said infrastructure, found here:
https://chapterquest.fandom.com/wiki/Planetary_Mechanics

Now some wealth spending:
>Invest 50 wealth into our Core Worlds Spy Network. -50 W
>20 Warbikes. -20 W
>50 Tarantula Sentries. -10 W
>25 Tarantula Hyperios Sentries. -10 W
Total Cost: 90 W

I'd also like to purchase two Gladius-class Frigates, and use our Matrix Cogitator for a 10% discount. In addition to the 15% multibuy discount. For a total discount of 25%.
2 x 120w * 0.75 = Total Cost 180 W

Is it possible to arrange periodic payment for Starships?
For example, lets say we want to purchase three escorts costing 100w each (after any discounts) and each one takes 3 years to make.
Theoretically could we pay 33w per year for 9 years, and receive one every three years (representing one drydock in use for 9 years)
Or conversely, we could pay 100w per year for 3 years, and receive all three at the end of the period (representing three drydocks in use for 3 years)

Lastly, some Chapter XP spending:
>Sulix: +10 Agility. -2 XP
>Brethorius: +10 Toughness, -2 XP (god knows he needs it)
>Tercius: Purchase Agility. +10 Dodge. -2 XP
>Kay: +10 Leadership, -1 XP
>Dreidor: +5 WP, +5 INT. -2 XP
>Quintor: +10 Leadership. -1 XP
>Geron: +20 Dodge. -2 XP

Total Cost :12 Chapter XP (we currently have 16)

Then some Chapter Master XP spending:
>Spend 5xp on Leadership Skill. (+5d5? +5d3? Skg needs to decide)
>Spend 3xp on Dodge Skill (As above)
>Spend 3xp on Stategy Skill (As above)

Total cost. 11 Chapter Master XP.

If there's any objections from playerws please make them known. Otherwise I await Skargan's confirmation before updating the wiki accordingly.

Luigi/Goju came up with it being a trait to protect his fellow marines in close quarters, probably going to have to rename it then for it to make sense though. It's both pretty specific and very flavourful/fluffy so it should make for some fun interactions.

Ah shit you wrote shipyard not ships.
We might have to build an Anchor-Class Space Station for that, we have the STC for a Mark V and VI after our adventure with the Men of Iron.
The Iron Phoenix is currently one of those, but it's specialized on trade and around Mormark, maybe we can build a shipyard as an add-on there instead of building an entirely new station and specializing it on Fleet Production over Varda, though doing it over Varda might be more beneficial in the long-run. On the other hand, we could bundle our production and mercantile efforts over Mormark. That'd make a successful attack there worse, but it would mean that if Varda gets attacked successfully we lose no station at all.
We currently have 309W I think, Luigi's proposal would spend 270. Though we'd be able to pay it in rates if our Nestorium buddies trust us enough to pay the tab.

>Basic cost was 100 wealth
(without discounts)
I don't know if that's with or without the trade specialization.
Might be cheaper to just give our current one an add-on.

Also Luigi just informed me that a general drydock doesn't require an anchor-class station and would probably be way cheaper, meaning I wasted over an hour of my time on this.
:(

Also game is pushed to tomorrow because of skekoldry.

I also propose that we send Trianon with all necessary equipment to Minerva, the planet next to Varda, so that he can study the crystal insects there so that we may either tame them or remove them to allow for a full survey of the planet of natural resources. And if the survey of Minerva shows that there are natural resources there that a colony expedition be organized to exploit said resources.
