It wasn’t supposed to be like this…

You think to yourself as you rest your forehead against your knees in an attempt to hide your face from no one in particular. The recent memories of the past few days flash before your mind’s eye as you try to come to terms with recent events.

Events that resulted in your friend’s deaths.

It was supposed to be fun. The hot new game 「Kamen Rider Chronicle 」was just released and everyone was crowding around stores trying to snag a copy. You and your friends had preordered a copy weeks in advance though you had nearly missed the preorder period because of the game’s sudden announcement but you had managed to get in just in time. The game was supposed to allow players to become their own custom Kamen Rider, which was met with cries of incoming microtransactions from your friends, and fight monsters like in the shows.

You were all excited to finally meet up after months of voice chats and heavy gaming sessions that would lead into the early hours of the morning. It was sheer coincidence that the majority of your group lived in Seito City but you all decided that 「Kamen Rider Chronicle 」was the perfect opportunity to meet up in person for the first time.

At first the game was going to be a blast, you had found a boss monster from the get go and all your friends immediately transformed to leap into battle. You’re not sure why you didn’t join them. Was it fear of getting into a real fight? It was just a game after all. It’s not like you could actually get hurt. Whatever the reason it didn’t matter. You assume that’s what saved your life because moments after the fight started a red and blue Kamen Rider joined in and started attack you all! There was an explosion that knocked you off your feet.

As you got your bearings you saw them, you’re friends, on the ground writhing in pain and untransformed. They were begging for their lives as they slowly faded away into nothingness, leaving behind a small cloud of digitized dust and the indents their bodies had left on the ground. Their assailant paid their cries no mind as he slowly made his way towards you.

“Another player?” He says with excitement in his voice, “Hurry up and transform! My heart is burning for another fight.” You remember his gauntleted hands tightening around your throat and slowly stopping the air from reaching your lungs. “Come on! It’s easy! Just push the button.” He laughs pressing your copy of the game, the Gashat, into your hand. As your view faded to darkness the last thing you remember is hearing the sound of footsteps running towards your location.

From then events were a blur as you found yourself briefly at a nearby hospital, and then transferred to a police station where you were interrogated. You tried to tell them that your friends died in that game. That they just vanished after being defeated by another player but they didn’t really believe you. You were released a few days later due to there being no evidence to prove you were involved in their disappearance.
You choke back a few tears and rub your eyes as you push away the memories of your departed friends. There wasn’t much in common between you all besides your love of gaming. They all came from different walks of life. Satoshi claimed he worked at some kind of convenience store and his constant stories about annoying customers lent credence to it. Yuta didn’t talk much about his personal life but the bits and pieces you did catch gave you the idea he worked at some kind of law firm which surprised you considering how young he was. Miho was a classical NEET, she spent all her time gaming and never did seem to leave the computer. You think you might have heard what could have been her mom in the distance but you felt it was rude to pry into her personal life.

To them however you were…

...Reiko Yukihara, also known as Genius Gamer R in some circles. You weren’t sure why the competitive scene gave you that moniker as there was already a Genius Gamer N and even more well known the Legendary Genius Gamer M both who had mysteriously left the scene before you made you debut. Maybe it was a trend that was going on for newer pros? Whatever it was, it was much better than the screen name of last year’s champ xxD4RKN3SS S14Y3Rxx. Your friends were proud of you, some of them even would even send a few dollars your way during the streams you held in between tournaments which made it all the worse because it was you who had bought the group the advanced copies of 「Kamen Rider Chronicle 」. It was your idea to meet up and play. It was your status as a new pro that had managed to get in touch with the right people and get some advanced copies to pre order.

You finally decide to lift your face from your knees and look around your small but packed room. Littered about were various posters and logos of the companies who sponsored you, your closet with a few changes of clothing, and your personal computer full of the latest hardware surrounded with a multitude of shelves chock full of various games and consoles. Come to think of it, you hadn’t been on your computer since you had left to meet up with your friends. You rub your nose and wipe away some mucus.

Is it always gonna hurt like this?
You think to yourself as you slowly get up. Maybe if you get around to doing something it might help take your mind off of things.

You walk towards your door to get out of the house. Being surrounded by games, you just couldn’t stand it. As you reach for the door handle however, you stop. It just wasn’t fair. They were your friends and now you just wanted to ignore them. To forget and ignore everything. They deserved better. At the very least their families should know what really happened. Who knows what the police told them? You grit your teeth and make your way to your computer swallowing your pain as you sit down.

Your fingers dance expertly across the keyboard as you log into Discord and into your server. You try to ignore the handful of offline icons on the right hand side of the server. Icons that will never have that green dot that you never noticed that also meant they were alive and well. The main channel had a few posts, mostly hype over 「Kamen Rider Chronicle 」. You push away oncoming memories, focused on your task. You pause unsure how to start. Your not sure how ask for this information without sounding crazy so you numbly type the most generic post.

You
Hey.

And you stop. Waiting, almost scared as to what was coming next. Maybe they already knew the others were gone? Maybe they knew it was your fault?

Honorary Florida Man
Yo Reiko! Where have you been? It’s been forever since you and the others logged on lmao. You guys going for some kind of record on Chronicles or something :P

Honorary Florida Man was the oldest member of the group. You don’t think he ever gave you his real name but you know every year he and his family made a trip to America. One year while he was abroad the Florida man memes popped up and the name just stuck when someone pointed out he could have been behind them all. You can’t help but have a small grin at remembering that.

You
Lol yeah guess we all got caught up in it. My b.
You
Hey have you heard anything else about the game?

Honorary Florida Man
Oh looking for some tips huh? Damn Reiko, game hasn’t been out for a week and you’re already competeting. Guess that’s why you’re Genius Gamer R.
Honorary Florida Man
Uh… I haven’t actually heard of anything though. Mostly rave reviews about how cool the game is but i bet those guys were paid off. Check this shit out though!

Your heart sinks. No, that was putting it lightly. You wanted to scream, yell that he should throw it away and never touch it again as his next post was of a single image. A Gashat bearing the name Kamen Rider Chronicle.

I'll try to stick to the fundamentals of the show's plot but this is a quest and not a "let's just sit back and write about how cool the OG crew is". So while there's a plot to fall back on, don't expect all the characters to adhear to the show. Hopefully we get that far though.

Dude wtf. If you don’t wanna hang that’s cool.

You
fuck. sorry.

You pause before continuing. Telling Florida man the truth meant you had to face the past few days head on. Taking a shakey breath you put on your headset and send him a private call praying he answers. You’d like to say that it was so there wasn’t any evidence linking you to what was going to say but at the moment you wanted someone to speak to.

“H-hey.” You say shakily as the call goes through.

“Yo. Reiko, you doing alright?.” You hear Florida man reply with obvious concern in his voice.

“Yeah...just don’t say anything please. I need to tell you the truth and...I don’t think I can continue if I stop mid way.”

Florida man gives you worried “Ok” and you retell the past few days to your friend. You’re not sure how you managed to get through it all without breaking down midway but in the end all you hear is.

“Holy shit...that’s...they’re really gone? You’re sure it’s not some kind of respawn mechanic or something.”

You nod out of habit as your reply. “Yeah they’re gone...the cops refused to tell me what happened to them but they think I was responsible so I’m sure they didn’t just go home. In the end they didn’t have anything to pin it on me so I was let go. They’re gone man. That’s why you have to get rid of that game!”

Florida man remains quiet but you can hear the metallic sound of the Gashat being picked up.

“H-hey what are you gonna do!” You shout in panic.

“Nothing I was just...I dunno actually.” As is that line of thought prompted him he asks. “What are you gonna do? You still have your copy, right?”

You go quiet. What were you gonna do? All this time you were thinking of how to cope that you never gave thought about how to move forward.

“Right now I’m just looking for info on the other’s families. I think...I don’t know if I’m gonna tell them but maybe I should let them know. After that...I guess I’ll..”

“I’m gonna investigate this. Someone needs to pay.” You say firmly. “Not only for the guys but also for everyone else. People are gonna get hurt.”

Florida man lets out a whistle. “That’s a tall order there. How are you gonna do that.”

“...Well...shit.” You say admitting you don’t really have any clue as to how you’re going to do that. Florida man let’s out a laugh.

“Always running without thinking huh?” He muses. “I’ll keep an eye out for news if that is any help. I also know some details about Yuta. Don’t know much but I know his last name is Nakamura and I think he mentioned he worked at one of the bigger law firms in your city. Didn’t think I’d be helping someone doxx him.”

“We’re not doxxing him.” You say defensively. “I just want to be able to talk to his family if I have to.” You decide now that you’re discussing your friends private lives, you might as well see if you can find out anything about their families. Knowing what they look like, you decide to check the biggest repository of people’s personal info on the internet, Facebook. After a half hour of searching and sifting through names and profiles you managed to get the family details of Miho and Satoshi but Yuta was pretty absent from the site. You get the feeling that gaming was one of his few outlets where he didn’t have to act all professional even if he was one of the more serious people in your group.

You were so absorbed in your search that it was actually Flordia man who had to point it out.

“Hey is someone ringing your doorbell?”

“Huh?” Your awareness comes back to focusing on your surroundings as you hear the last few notes of your house’s doorbell. “Oh yeah...I’ll catch you later then FM.” You say. “Keep in touch.” You say as an afterthought.

“I will Reiko. Stay safe.”

With that you’re left alone in the quiet of your room. Whoever was ringing your doorbell seems to have left or is waiting for you to answer. At the same time you start feeling the gnawing in your stomach.

When was the last time I ate.

You wonder.

>What do you do?
>Check out who’s at your door
>Try to sneak out of the house. You’re not in the mood for guests and want to clear your thoughts.

You decide that you better check out who was at the door. It could be your landlord. He wasn’t too keen on letting you rent out an entire house by yourself because as he put it, “Playing those games doesn’t make you an adult. Sooner or later you need a real job!” Still he took your money and let you live there. If it was him, you didn’t want to give him a reason to hassle you. As you make your way downstairs you find it odd that your doorbell hasn’t been rung again. If it was your landlord he’d have made more of a ruckus. The thought of it being some stranger slows your pace. Could it be some stalker? You’ve heard stories of other pro gamers getting weird fans and you never really made it a point of hiding where you lived but you never told anyone either. What if it was that other Rider? Did he figure out where you lived?

You swallow your thoughts. No, it’s probably some neighbor or something. If you kept living in fear, you’d never get anything done. Mustering up some courage you fling your door open and find...no one. Confused you look down both sides of the street to see if anyone was leaving but they were empty save for some other neighbors walking around. As you take a step forward, your foot bumps into a box. You don’t remember ordering anything, and none of your sponsors had called to let you know they’d be sending something your way. Picking it up, it feels a bit heavy.

Pushing thoughts of obsessive stalkers or fans out of your head, you close the door and set the box on the table contemplating what to do. Ultimately you decide to open it, maybe you took longer than you thought to answer the door and the delivery person got fed up with waiting.

Inside was what looked to be a small briefcase with the words “GD: Gamer Driver Software” embossed on it.

Gamer Driver? Is this like a new graphics card company? Maybe there’s a letter asking to sponsor me. You wonder as you open the briefcase.

As you open it your heart skips a beat. Inside it was another Gashat, jet black titled “Mighty Action X” in black and white. Right next to it in the soft foam was a weird device. It was a rather gaudy green and pink but seemed to have slots to accept what you assume is the Gashat that came with it. Lifting it up you notice it is the eponymous Gamer Driver according to the logo on its front. The way it bends seems to imply it’s worn across the waist. Setting that aside you pick up the manual to the device and find something wedged in it’s pages. A small folded note that says,

Your hands tremble as you read the note. The name seems to have been smudged or perhaps there wasn’t one at all. There way the smudge is implies it must’ve been a short name or at least the start of one. You rest a heavy gaze on briefcase.

You set the manual back into the case and close it. No, not right now. You weren’t ready to hop back into the game. You find yourself trembling as your mind races back to the original day. Fear of what happened to your friends. Fear of getting hurt or dying. You were a professional gamer but when you played the games weren’t real. There was a controller, a level of disconnect between what you did and what happened in the game that you realize gave you some level of comfort.

You close the small briefcase and weight it in your hands. You don’t really want to leave it laying around the house. While your neighborhood was a relatively safe one, you didn’t want someone stumbling on it and accidentally use it. You remember the note, “DO NOT TRUST GENM CORP”. Was this stolen property? It was obvious that you were meant to receive it but it clearly wasn’t from an official source. Why would Genm Corp give you something and then warn you against itself? Sighing, you ultimately decide to put it in your messenger bag you tend to carry around when you leave the house. If it was going to be anywhere, it might as well be with you at all times. For all you know, you’ve been caught up in some kind of corporate espionage because of what you saw.

One final thought crosses your mind before you set out to do something else.

Seito City needs a true Kamen Rider

What did it mean by “true” Kamen Rider?

>What do you do?

You slip your messenger bag over your shoulder and grab your phone. Opening up the mobile Discord app you shoot a quick message to Flordia Man, “I think I found the law firm Yuta works at. Gonna head over there.” It doesn’t take long for you to get a response.

Honorary Florida Man
Good luck.Stay safe.

It wasn’t much but it made you smile. After all this it was nice to know someone had your back. Before leaving you take a small notebook and writing pen, your extra portable battery, and your wallet.

At the law firm

You had taken the train to the center of the city where the law firm you thought Yuta worked at. It only took a quick google search to find a firm that had Nakamura as one of the partners listed. It made sense to check that out first, if Yuta had a family member who was already partnered in the firm that would explain how he was working there at such a young age. That was also going to make it a lot harder to explain why you wanted his personal info.

The firm itself was a large building about two stories tall and the lounge itself screamed at how much money this firm made. A young woman was on the phone organizing appointments, and quickly typing on the nearby keyboard. Noticing you she waves you over and after politely ending the call gives you a professional smile.

“Good afternoon miss. Are you here on behalf of your parents? Or are you just waiting for them to arrive?”

You frown, you hadn’t actually thought of what you would say and the fact the receptionist still thought you were a child didn’t help.

>Ask for the Nakamura who works here. If he’s one of Yuta’s family members you might as well tell him what happened in person.
>Ask if a Yuta Nakamura works here and try to work the discussion towards getting his personal info.

“Umm...I would like to speak with Mr. Nakamura. The one who’s a partner here. I think I know one of his relatives and I have something to tell him regarding them.” You say keeping your emotions under control. You notice a flash of something behind the receptionist eyes but her professionalism prevents you from determining what. Still maintaining her polite smile she replies.

“I’m sorry but Mr. Nakamura is a busy man and I can’t allow anyone claiming they know him to walk in and speak to him. I’m sure you understand. If you don’t have an appointment, I'm going to have to ask you leave please.”

You bite your lip unsure if you want to divulge any more information than you have to. But you can’t be thrown out now! Not when you’re so close.

“It’s about Yuta!” You blurt out a bit more loudly than you intended. Several of the other employees and a few of the others waiting turn to stare. You gulp, “Sorry, I want to speak the Mr. Nakamura about Yuta Nakamura. He mentioned he worked here. Is this the right place?” You say quietly. The receptionist’s professional facade slips a bit as she gives a slight nod.

“Yes...the younger Nakamura worked- arm...works here.” She corrects herself quickly. She tugs at her hair nervously. “I think...I think I can get you a meeting with Nakamura Sr. but please have a seat.” She motions to a nearby sofa. You would really prefer to stay and listen but without any other options you take a seat.

The next few minutes were agonizing as you watch the receptionist hurriedly dial in a number and whisper frantically on the phone. Every so often she would glance at you, and each time you try to avoid her gaze. Trying to keep your mind busy, you pull your phone you and message Florida Man.

You
Hey I think I found yutas firm!

Honorary Florida Man
oh shit relly? What you gona do?

You
I don’t know. I think I’m just gonna tell him the truth. Feels wrong to come over just to sneak some info. I might as well tell the guy.

Honorary Florida Man
jesus. Alright if you think it’s for the best. Let me know how it went.

You were about to respond before you hear the tapping of high heels making their way towards you. Looking up, it’s the receptionist. “Right this way miss. Mr. Nakamura would like to speak to you.” She says nervously. “Please remember to be respectful. Mr. Nakamura is a busy man and he’s made g-great exceptions to see you.” She says trying very hard to maintain her professionalism.

You’re lead to an office on the top floor. From where the door is positioned, it seems like it takes up about a third of the whole floor. On the opposite end of the floor seems to be another office door just like it.

(1/2)
>>
The office itself is surrounded by bookshelves on almost every wall save for the one facing the streets which is made entirely out of glass. However the view is blocked by a large curtain leaving the room a bit darker than you would like even with ceiling lights on.

Examining the books is a middle aged man, around 5’9”. His hair is sleek and combed back with a few greying hairs here and there. As he notices you, he turns and motions the receptionist away before addressing you.

“So you’re the one who has news about my nephew?” He asks. His voice is even and authoritarian indicating he is a man who has learned to speak and get his way. His eyes measure you up, unimpressed with the multitude of buttons on your messenger bag nor the various sponsors patches on your hoodie. You swallow before speaking,

>What next? The next options will require a roll. 1d20 best out of three. I’ll take the first three rolls regardless if the poster’s option was chosen or not. This roll is to see how well he will take the news or if he even believes you.
>Ask the receptionist what is wrong before you arrive at Nakamura Sr’s office.
>Tell Nakamura Sr, what happened to Yuta without holding anything back. He deserves to know exactly what went down regardless of how absurd it sounds. (feel free to write down what you say)
>Tell Nakamura Sr. only what he needs to know. His son is dead. Died while playing a game with you and your friends but you think Genm Corp might be behind it as it was one of their games. (What what you want him to know.)
>Write in.

“I know why Yuta is missing.” You say quietly and you begin to tell how it all happened. You try as hard as you can to convince him that what you saw was real. That there was nothing you could do as you watched your friend vanish into nothing. You were about half way through your story when Nakamura Sr, strode over and…

WHAM!

Your head snaps to the left as the lawyer’s hand strikes you across the cheek. Shock and confusion prevent you from forming any words or acting in response.

“The hell out.” Mr. Nakamura says, his voice dangerously quiet.

“Wha?” You say in confusion still reeling from the pain of being slapped.

“GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY OFFICE RIGHT NOW!” He shouts in rage, all semblance of control gone. “GET THE FUCK OUT! NEVER SPEAK TO ME OR MY FAMILY EVERY AGAIN.” He repeats and strides over to his desk snatching up a phone and dialing furiously. “Ikumi! Get security! I want this girl out of my office. Right now!” Mr. Nakamura throws the receiver back into place and glares at you, murder in his eyes.

As you come back to your senses you do the only thing you can think of. You run.

“Get back here!” Mr. Nakamura shouts but you pay him no mind.

You dash towards the elevator, sobbing. This wasn’t how it was supposed to be! You were doing the right thing weren’t you? As you approach the doors begin to open. If you could get in you might be able to hide and go straight down to the first floor while security is taking the other elevator up! Unfortunately, this was not meant to be. You slip between the opening doors and slam right into the very people you were trying to avoid. The ensuing scuffle was quick and you soon found yourself in handcuffs and escorted back to the man you were trying to escape. You didn’t think a person’s face to get so red with anger.

“Sir, we apprehended the girl. Would you like us to call the police?” One of the security officers, a tall man with red hair, says firmly holding you in place. You panic, if the police get involved they might actually charge you with something. They might find the Gamer Driver on you and think you stole it. They might even contact Genm Corp about it.

>Oh god Anons. What does poor Reiko do?
>Plead with Mr. Nakamura. If he lets you go, you’ll never contact him again. He’ll never see you again.
>You’re pretty scrawny but you think you can muster enough strength to surprise the security guard and escape his grip. You’ll still be in handcuffs but Mr. Nakamura doesn’t know who you are and if he never sees you again you can’t get in trouble.
>Resign yourself to your fate. If the police are called you can tell them what you told them before. Maybe they’ll understand you were just trying to do the right thing.

Rolls are required for all these choices. Pray to the eyecons and banish the bad dice away.

No! It can’t end like this! You have to find out what happened to your friends. You can’t do that if you’re arrested! You settle your thoughts.

Ok...think of this like a game. How do I get out of this situation.

You weren’t very strong. But what you lacked in strength you made up in cunning. You were Genius Gamer R and there hasn’t been an opponent you couldn’t outwit! When you initially struggled you had noticed that the guard only tightened his grip long enough to hold you in place until you settled down. Smirking slightly, you already have your game plan. As the adults talk, you develop a pattern of struggling a bit and then settling down, getting the guard into the habit. You’ve done this trick countless of times in Tekken tournaments. Repeating the same move to trick your opponent into performing the same guard until…

You wrench your shoulder down as you feel the guard’s hand relax. As an added measure you slam your elbow into his crotch and slip out of the office as you run from the shouts. Alright, no more messing around. The elevators were a bad idea but you don’t aim to make the same mistake twice. You run down the hall and towards the stairwell people were meant to use incase of a fire. Throwing your entire weight against it, you throw open the door causing the fire alarms to ring!

Most people would have panicked but this was all according to your plan. The ensuing chaos from an unannounced fire drill gave you ample cover to escape from the building without anyone batting an eye. You’re free from the building but you’re still handcuffed…

>What do you do? Where do you go?
>Go home. You could probably look up some tutorial to pick the locks. Miho probably would have chidded you and told you all about the NEET lifestyle if she were still around.
>Head to one of the many nearby bridges that go over a river. You think you could try and just wiggle out of the handcuffs with your small hands. The guards didn’t really tighten these cuffs well. Once your free you can just throw the handcuffs in the river.

You run. And run. You continue to run until your breath is ragged and you can see your breath in the cooling fall afternoon. You had tucked your hands underneath your hoodie so no one could see the handcuffs but now that you were free, you wanted them off. Luckily central Seito City was your stomping grounds as many of the bigger tournaments were held in the large arcades here. You duck behind a store into a nearby alley and made your way to one of your favorite hangout spots. A small bridge that spanned over a river that was nicely hidden behind some restaurants and convenience stores. Because of their close proximity to one of your favorite arcades, you often spent your downtime between brackets or when you wanted a break from gaming eating take out on the bridge while watching the water flow.

The fact that it was behind the restaurants meant that no one really came over here due to the dumpsters and trash cans. The smell never really reached the bridge but the stigma remained, and so did your privacy. Making your way to the bridge, you returned the waves a few of the chefs and other workers with polite nods. You had an agreement with these people, you weren’t there to cause trouble and they’d ward off anyone who wanted to brave the smells and bother you. This relationship had gotten to a point that a few of the places would offer you minor discounts here and there.

You sit down cross legged in the middle of the bridge as you always do and pull your hands from under your hoodie. The cuffs weren’t on too tight but they still felt like they had good lock on your wrists. You jingle the chain linking your hands together and try to pull free but you don’t get too far as you hear someone approaching.

Your blood runs cold as the sound of footsteps is accompanied by the sound of metal clanging and the familiar *Chirp Chirp* of hits connecting between characters playing 「Kamen Rider Chronicle 」.

“Arrrgh!”

A brown armored body flies over you and lands on the edge of the river in front of you. Sobbing, you turn to look behind you expecting to find the red and blue assailant that murdered your friends. To your relief you see it’s actually a kind of Shark based Kaijin. You immediately recognize it as the mascot of 「Extreme Surfin’! 」[i/] the semi sequel to 「Shakariki Sports」[i/] . The shark monster growls and jumps down next to the player and begins to slash at him with a pair of fin shaped blades causing the chirping sound and making sparks fly everywhere.

>That rider doesn’t look so good. What does Reiko do?
>Try to get out of your handcuffs! You can’t help if your hands are bound.
>Get the Gamer Driver and Gashat from your bag. The only way to beat this monster is to transform and play the game!

Anon what is the point of playing a Kamen Rider quest if we refuse to ever engage? Forget cowardice now is the time to find our heroic drive! We're not gonna watch anyone else die. We stood there and watched as we lost our friends, but we won't loose anyone else. We won't ever let ourselves go through that again. In the name of Justice and to preserve the sanctity of life we must fight!

“Aughhh!”

The brown Ride Player screams in agony as he failed to dodge another blade. He falls into the shallow end of the river and writhes on the ground as he struggles to get up. The Kaijin slowly makes its way towards the fallen player.

“No...not again.” You whisper. You throw your bag to the ground and frantically rummage through it looking for the one object that could be the player’s salvation.

Seito City needs a true Kamen Rider

Your hands grip the briefcase tightly as you fumble to undo the locks due to the handcuffs. You’re almost afraid to find it empty. As if, somehow, during your run it’s contents vanished but no, nestled snugly in its foam packaging are the Gashat and Gamer Driver. You hold it tightly to your chest as if that was enough to save you both.

“No! Please. I give up! How do I stop the game?!” The Ride Player begs as they try to crawl away from the monster.
“No no no no!” You repeat progressively getting louder. “I SAID NOT AGAIN!” You scream at the top of your lungs, raising the driver above your head and slamming it on to your waist. The driver emits the sound of metal sliding out as a band wraps around your waist and holds the driver in place. The monster turns around to face you as your scream catches it attention but you pay it no mind.

A warm feeling envelops you as you look at the black Gashat in your hand. For some reason you can’t help but smirk. This was just another game, and there was no one better at games than you. Not xxD4RKN3SS S14Y3Rxx, not even the Legendary Pro Gamer M. You twirl the Gashat on your middle finger as you raise to eye level.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3hEhfo3qbY
You grin as you press the button and say,

”Game On.”

And in response the Gashat, no, your Gashat replies,

”MIGHTY ACTION X!”

A large screen erupts behind you displaying the game you announced as the area around you is overlayed in a virtual reality that displays various blocks and objects from the action platformer displayed on your Gashat. And as you slam the device into your Gamer Driver and to force the lever to the side a word rises to your lips unbidden. A singular cry that redifines what it means to be a regular person, that represents humanity's undying will and urge to survive,

”HENSHIN!”

”GASHATTO!”

As if in response to your newfound determination you Driver summons a wheel of blacked out portraits save for one that stops right in front of you. You fist bump the screen with all your might causing it to shatter and envelop you as your driver shouts out,

”Let’s Game!”

”Metcha Game!”

”Mutcha Game!”

”WHAT’S YOUR NAME?!”

Stepping out of the bright light you emerge, a figure clad in black, ready to strike down evil of hearts bearing the same color.

”I’m a Kamen Rider.”
You flick your wrists and break off the handcuffs as if they were made of brittle plastic. With a smirk in your semi-digitized voice you say, ”Time to ruin you K/D!” Before leaping off the bridge and engaging the monster head on!

“Yaaa!”

You cry out extending your leg in a flying kick. The kick connects with the monster’s face emitting the same chirp and hit marker as before. When you land you roll away just in the nick of time to avoid a pair of blade striking in the area where you had just landed! Your roll carries you all the way to the other player as you notice you seem much faster while armored. You hoist the other player on your feet and lightly tap his chest with the back of your hand saying, ”Come on newbie! Keep up! We’re gonna need to team up if we’re gonna win this.”

The other player stands there dumbfounded. “WoW...I’ve never seen another player do anything like that.”

“Like what?”
You ask knocking away the monster with a spinning kick.

“Like...everything! None of the other players get a cool belt, or an intro chant or summon stuff in game! Are you like an admin or something?” He asks.

You duck under one of the monster’s blades and block the second by the arm. “Nope. I’m just you know...passing through Kamen Rider. Erm...little help?”

“Kamen...Rider…” He repeats in awe before snapping back to reality. “Oh right! Yeah! I’ve heard of those! Advanced players right?” He says drawing his weapon. What was that? It barely counted as a dagger. Is that what players get in this game? Seems a little unfair. As you’re new co-op partner rushes in to assist you, you notice that he moves agonizingly slow. Barely faster than a human. Where as you feel like a blur! As a matter of fact as you look at your limbs the do in fact blur when you strike but you seem to have no problem keeping track of such fast movements. Odd.

You duck under another of the monsters swords and sweep it’s legs, it tries to block it’s thrown off guard and your team mate manages to score a hit! The monster roars and begins to spin in place becoming a whirlwind of blades forcing both you and your ally to back off for the moment.

>What next?
>Ask the newbie if he has any weapons to share

Sorry anons, this ain't that kind of quest. I think you want to check out one of those random stick figure ones for that. Or that slasher movie quest that's running. Might find some bathwater to steal there. Micheal Myers seems like the kind of dude to buy gamer girl bath water.

That monster isn’t going to stop spinning on its own but you don’t want to risk the newbie’s health trying some risky tactic that he can’t keep up with. His surprise at the fact you summoned object during your transformation piqued your interest. Looking across the battlefield, you notice that the various game objects floating about were directly pulled from 「Mighty Action X 」. You grin, that meant there must be power ups in them like in the game!

”Hey newbie. Check this out.” you spinning around and giving the nearest block a roundhouse kick, shattering it, and revealing an energy item! It was round disc like item with the image of a figure flexing its arm. Touching it causes you to absorb it and you’re driver shouts,

”Muscle Up!”

Item Get: Muscle Up!
Your next attack roll or roll involving brute strength receives a +2 bonus! Use it on your next roll or save it for later! You can only hold up to 3 different Energy Items.

You give your teammate a thumbs up and turn to face the monster. While you were hoping for a defensive item, you’ll have to make do with what you got.
>What next?
>Go on the offensive. Out attack the monster!
>Try to look for more power ups. The newbie can probably hold his own for a little bit longer right?
>The monster seems more focused on keeping it’s defensive attack style. Use this to your advantage and escape!
>Write in.

When you roll let me know if you decided to use one of your stored energy items. I’m kind of testing the waters on how to implement them from the show and give you some kind of bonus so you’re not always rolling a flat 1d20. If you guys have some ideas, feel free to let me know. Still kind of getting the hang of running a quest. Unless you guys just want to use power ups as just narrative stuff.

As you absorb the energy item you immediately activate it. After all, an unused power up is a wasted one. Almost instantly you can feel the strength surging through your body ontop of what you were already feeling from your armored form.

”Newbie, cover me! I’m going in!” You announce dashing forward towards the spinning monster. You plant your feet firmly on the ground as your get within range and shift your weight onto your right side as you swing your fist upward and into your enemy’s gut. The perfect uppercut. The impact lifts the monster off its feet as it chokes from having the wind knocked out of him. You follow it up with another strike with your left fist, then another with your right repeating the pattern until the kaijin was a clean foot off the ground before you finally spun around and finished your combo with spinning kick into its chest!

The monster rockets away from you as it shot out of a cannon, crashing into one of the bridge supports smashing it to pieces!

“Holy crap! What kind of power up was that?” You ally shouts but before you can answer the monster is back on its feet! How much punishment can this guy take?! The shark monster let’s our a roar as it’s blades begin to glow. It dips them into the water and you can feel the water begin to move. Waves begin to crash along the shore of the river as the water level seems to be rising!

”I think we hit phase 2…” You say uncomfortably as you look around trying to look for some kind of hint as to what the monster was about to do.

>Take cover! Whatever its planning you don’t want to be caught in it!

We started our fight with a rider kick. Unfortunately a 13 doesn't completely save the day. You'll get your rider kick soon enough though.

”Get to cover!” You shout as you rush in to try and take advantage of your enemy’s open stance. You throw all your weight behind a kick to the midsection but this shark suddenly feels like he’s a brick wall! You go all out and throw a flurry of punches causing your vision to fill with Hit! markers.

Hit!Hit!Hit!Hit!Hit!Hit!

The monster seems unfazed by your barrage until you finally make it stagger with a roundhouse kick to the chin! You think you manage to break through when the monster makes an odd gurgling noise as it stumbles back but you suddenly realize it’s laughing at you! It drags it’s glowing blades through the water and swings them upwards in your direction sending a large wave racing towards you.

You try your best to dodge out of the way but you’re too close because of your previous assault. As you tumble within the raging water you feel dozens of sharp objects flowing around you, slicing you up and causing you to spasm in pain. This is a game! Why does the pain feel so real?

You finally crash on the ground and you hear your HUD beeping frantically. You hadn’t realized you had closed your eyes instinctively despite your helmet keeping all the water out. As you open them, your vision focuses on a health bar that has suddenly appeared in your HUD and on your chest as it blinks furiously and shrinks in size.

/////IIIII|||||

/////IIIII

What?! A health bar? When did you have a health bar?! Why don’t regular players have one? What kind of game is this?!

You groan as you get to your feet ready to go another round with the beast.

>What do?
>Go for another team up attack. Whittle down your enemy’s health.
>Try to find another energy item. You’ve lost health and a boost might help even the odds.
>Attempt a finisher. Gather everything you got and try to end this in a single blow!

Actually I think this is divine punishment for my trying to squirm out of the last critfail. I behaved in a craven manner unbefitting of Kamen Rider and as such Justice has come for me.

We gotta take our lumps like a champ and then push on despite the pain in order to be truly worthy of being called an ally of Justice. An ally of Justice must be able to persevere even when the going gets tough. This is just Justice testing us to make sure we aren't a pussy who will abandon our ideals at the first sign of trouble.

Trying to find an energy item it is. This one is going to hurt anons.
>>
Seeing your health bar deplete is a cold reminder of your own mortality. You body freezes and your mind goes blank as memories of the game’s launch day come back to you.

“Hurry up and transform! My heart is burning for another fight.”

You tense up as you remember that voice. Images of your friends fading away come back to haunt you.

NO! I can’t die! I don’t want to die!

You think desperately to yourself as you look around in panic. Suddenly it dawns on you. Energy items! If they can boost your strength, then they might have a healing one! You frantically begin smashing boxes all around you but you can’t find a single item.

Come on! Please! Just one item! Please…

You silently beg in your mind as your continue to search. You’re just about to break what you think has to have an item when-
“Miss Kamen Rider look out!” The Ride Player shouts causing you to look behind your. It was too late however as the monster strikes you with it’s twin blades. Once, twice, three times he hits you before grabbing you by the neck and throwing you like a rag doll.

Your body sails at least 20 feet before crashing to the ground. Your HUD screams at you in panic as you watch the last vestiges of your health fade away.

////
https://youtu.be/rXLxTQgTiAk Sorry for the shitty fan art slideshow. It's literally the only upload of this damn song. Good song though
You feel broken. Is this how it was going to end? Would you never get to see your friends again? Were all your attempts to be a good person destined to fail?

You hear the crunch of gravel as the Shark monster made its way towards you, ready to finish the job.

>What do you do anons? It’s do or die time!
>Fight on! As long as you have breath in your body you’ll rage against fate! Break the cycle of all female Riders!
>Untransform and run. It’s the cowards way out but you’ll live to fight another day.
>Succumb. Perhaps you were never meant to be a Kamen Rider after all. [spoilers] Why would you choose this tho?
>Hard Mode: Self sacrifice. Even if it costs you your life, you’ll save at least one person! Perhaps fate will be kind and allow you to survive...

Really I should have run this in Wizard's plot because if this isn't finding hope in despair, then i don't know what is.
>>
>>3891513
But I heard Wizard was meh.
>>
>>3891561

Wizard was only meh because at that point the monster of the week formula 2 parters were getting tiring. And while Haruto was charming, his secondary cast wasn't as engaging say Foruze's or OOO's. Kiyome when she actually does show up is boring, Reiko doesn't get to do anything cause female riders were a myth back then and I forget that guy who wanted to be a wizard but didn't is just eh. Really the show should've made Haruto's friends become the pillars for White Wizard's master plan than literal whos. At least then they'd have purpose.
>>
>>3891445
As you wallow in despair, the inevitable thoughts begin to arise.

I should give up.
Really, if I I let it end now then the hurting will stop and then I won’t have to worry.
It’d be so easy too.

As you fall to your breaking point, the point where all people succumb to their weakness or rise above it, a singular thought echoes through your mind banishing all others.

NO

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rvq2aNCbsj4

With a roar you throw yourself at the monster. You latch onto you its throat with one hand and squeeze tightly. The sharkman clips you with it’s blades but your fury has burned away all fear. No longer would you cling to the past. No longer would hold yourself back because of the people you failed to save. From that moment onward your drive would push you past all doubt and towards the future.

//

For those I could not save. For that may yet live!

You scream as you drive your fist into where you think the monster’s kidneys where. Over and over and over. You growl as begin pushing the beast back slowly. At first it was one step, then two until you were running with him against your shoulder. With the last of your strength you slam him into another bridge support shattering it!

As you steady yourself and the beast struggles to its feet you point at it and say, “No more...No more dying. No more cowering in fear. I don’t know who made you. I don’t care why you do it. But I won’t let any of your kind take another life. Not as long as I breathe. Not as long as I live.”

You eject your Gashat from your belt and slam it into the holster before pressing the button beside it.

"Gashun!"

”Gashatto!”

”Finisher!

As you charge up all the energy you held into your leg you continue, “Why? Because I’m a Kamen Rider. KAMEN RIDER EX AID!” As you shout your name to run and jump extending your for on final hit. One way or another, this fight was over.

”MIGHTY CRITICAL STRIKE!”

You foot smashes into the monster’s chest and you cleave through it landing on the other side. The momentum causes you to slide a bit further afterwards but it wasn’t enough. Not for you. You spin around and run back, jumping and swing your leg in an axe kick. You drive your heel into the monster’s neck before you push off and flip around with your back to the beast. It makes a few feeble steps towards your before it falls over and explodes.

You turn around and extend your fist towards the newbie. In unison, you and your driver announce,

”GAME CLEAR!”
”GAME CLEAR!”

”Gashun!”

You let out a long sigh as you steady yourself against the remains of the destroyed bridge support.

This really isn’t just a simple game.”

You think to yourself as you look around. The destruction you caused during your battle still remained even after all the game items you had summoned had vanished. In the same manner, the aches and pains your felt during your fight still persisted. Looking down your find yourself a mess. Your clothes and hoodie are torn up really badly. Anywhere a blade cut you had left a tear in your clothing. Judging by the aches you felt, you could easily assume there was a bruise or a cut there too. You raise a hand tentatively to your cheek and find it smeared with blood.

What the hell is Genm Corp selling us?

Your thoughts are interrupted by a combination of a music jingle and the other player running towards you shouting, “Miss Kamen Rider!” You sigh, as the jingle ends and what looks like a Gashat materialized in your hand. It was a bit shorter than your 「Mighty Action X 」Gashat and doesn’t have the handle you use to twirl it on your finger.

The Ride Player makes his way to you and untransforms, revealing a bespectacled young adult several years older than you. You blink a bit, judging by his game skill, you had expected him to be someone around your age or younger. You run your fingers through your hair. You didn’t really want to deal with an adult right now. Still you probably had to think of a way to take his Gashat from him. Otherwise he might not survive his next encounter.

“Miss Rider! Are you ok- Whoa! We need to get you to a hospital! What happened? I thought these games would have some kind of safety function! Is that what you meant about not letting people die? The way were you acting, it was as if you thought that monster was real! Were you just LARPing? Is that what advanced players do to get in the zone? Hey is that a Gashattrophy? I read about those…”

You rub your temples as the guy drones on and on. What’s it gonna take to get this guy to shut up?

>What do you want to say or do?
>Tell the guy to shut up. You want a moment to gather your thoughts.
>You just fought behind a bunch of restaurants and convenience stores. Tell the guy that you’ll treat him to a meal if it means he’ll be quiet.
>Tell him to hand over his Gashat. He shouldn’t be playing this game in the first place even if was good at it. You might as well tell him the truth behind the game.
>Ask him to take you to a hospital. You’re not sure what the extent of your injuries are so you might as well have a doctor take a look at you.
>Ask him why he was even taking on a boss monster at his skill level.

>Ask him to take you to a hospital. You’re not sure what the extent of your injuries are so you might as well have a doctor take a look at you.

That's a good mindset as I don't like spammy threads especially given how slow /qst/ is. A single thread typically can last you for two weeks easily. Unless you're the type of threat can pump out 750 a weekly session I don't recommend doing that.

Asking for medical attention. To the hospital!
>>
>>3891881
You sigh and try to wave the man away only to feel your arm burn badly and you drop it to your side. “Hey newbie, you mind taking me to the hospital? I don’t really feel so good.” You say. The man snaps to attention and nods. “R-right! As your senior, it’s my duty to see that your ok!” You resist the urge to roll your eyes. You were never really one for formalities between gamers. In the competitive scene you weren’t called by any honorifics until you earned them. Age and social status outside had no bearing when you were competing.

“Can you stand miss…” He asks politely holding his hand out. You like to say that you didn’t need his help. That you could stand on your own but ever since you had to take a breather, your legs felt like jelly. “Reiko.” You answer taking his hand. “Reiko Yukihara.” You slowly get your bearings and take a few tentative steps. No problems so far. “You have car newbie?” You ask looking around.

“It’s Akihiko.” He corrects you in the same tone you note many of your teachers used. “And no I don’t have a car. Let me just call an Uber.” He says poking at his phone while you both walked towards the nearest street. As you look behind you at the destruction, you feel a bit ashamed. That was your favorite hangout spot and you did kind of have a sort of trust thing going with the places surrounding it. Hopefully they don’t assume you caused it.

You find yourself waiting awkwardly next to Akihiko. Passersby constantly glance at you and give you strange looks every so often. Most of them out of concern, others out of morbid curiosity. You pull the frayed hood of your hoodie over your head and try to hide your face. How long was this Uber gonna take?

Hey that hoodie is an official Destiny 2 raid reward. You get access to it by beating a raid within 24 hour of its launch! But yeah pretty much the only thing undamaged is your Gamer Driver and messenger bag. Besides that, I'm back. We'll message our buddy FM! Writing.
>>
You rummage through your messenger bag looking for your phone hoping that, that Uber got here soon. The looks were getting worse and it was only a matter of time before someone decided something sketchy was going on and called the police. You give a quick glance to Akihiko only to find him with his nose buried in a book. Muttering something about energy items, he was furiously scrolling some notes down. Resisting the urge to shake some sense into him and point out he wasn’t helping in drawing attention to both of you, you decide it was probably best you just go on your phone and message Florida Man. It had been a few hours since you let him know what you were up to.

You
Hey FM, you still up?

Honorary Florida Man
Yo Reiko! Did you get Yuta’s contact info?

You
Not exactly? I managed to find the place he worked at, even managed to get ahold of one of his relatives.

Honorary Florida Man
No shit? How’d that go? Take the news well?

You bite your lip.

He took the news all right. Not sure if well is a good word for it.

You think to yourself. You glance around again hoping for that Uber to arrive. It was getting cold now and the holes in your clothing weren’t helping in retaining your warmth.

You
Yeah about that...

You
I mean, I’m not dead?

You spend the next few moments detailing the day’s adventure. Finally, your ride arrives and you scramble in as you finish up you message.

You
And that’s about it. I’m kind of messed up atm. I don’t think I’m bleeding too badly but my everything hurts.

Honorary Florida Man
So you’re some kind of superhero now?

You
Yeah, pretty much. Genm Crop is up to something and someone has to stop them. My gashat seems to be stronger than the average players. This game feels like it’s really weighed against the players and when death is what happens on game over, somethings screwy.

Honorary Florida Man
Fuck...well if you need my help, I’ll do what I can.

>What do you want to tell FM?

Honorary Florida Man
Yeah probably a good idea. I don’t like any of this man. What happened to just investigating?

You
I dunno. When I saw that I could help someone...I couldn’t help it. Something seems off and I think the only way to figure this out is to play the game.

Honorary Florida Man
If you think that’s the best. I gotta log off for the night. Try not to die?

You
I won’t.

As you finish up your conversation, your Uber is making it way to the hospital’s parking late. The large sign above the entrance reads,Seito University Hospital. Akihiko pays the fee, on his insistence, and you step out of the vehicle. By now the sun has set and you can feel the full chill of the fall air. Shivering, you look at Akihiko and then at the hospital. Would it be a good idea to have him walk in with you? Everyone was giving you weird looks before you arrived. On one hand he’d probably help corroborate any story you give them if you told the truth. On the other hand, you’re not sure he’d be helpful if you were to lie about what happened. To top it off, he still has his Gashat on him.

The Uber leaves as you both stand in the cold air. “Shall we go in?” Akihiko ask motioning towards the hospital and taking a few steps forwards. “Hey…” You say quietly, as you gather your thoughts. “Excuse me?” Akihiko replies turning to look at you. You look up and straight into his eyes and hold out your hand before saying, “Give me your Gashat. Don’t play this game ever again.”

“What? But it’s mine! There’s no rule saying I have to give it to another player if I don’t beat a boss! I’ve read the pdf with them! Just because you helped out and won doesn’t give you the right-” He stammers, instinctively reaching into his pocket where he had put away his Gashat.

“Shut up!” You shout, grabbing his wrist as it held the game item. Your grip was like iron, unyielding and cold. Despite your body’s protests, the fire inside you refused to die down and if you had a say in it, it never would as long as there were people in danger. “You still think this a game?! You could have died if I hadn’t stepped in. We almost did if I hadn’t put everything on the line in the end!” You argue, glaring at the stubborn man.

Jabbing your thumb at yourself you continue, “You think these cuts are for show? You think we’re here because I’m doing this for fun? This game is rigged Akihiko. I’ve seen people die from playing this game. Now, give me your Gashat. You’re gonna get killed if you continue.”

Akihiko looks at you conflicted. “N-no. That can’t be true. I mean, there’s safety measures right? This is a major release. Why would Genm Corp release a game if it was dangerous?”

You shake your head in frustration, “I don’t know! You think if I knew I’d be throwing myself in danger? Hell, even knowing that this game is dangerous, I’m still doing it! Didn’t you notice anything? How slow you were compared to me and the boss? How you barely had any way to defend yourself? How you didn’t have access to any power ups? This game was rigged from the start.”

Akihiko looks at you then to the game in his hand. “I-if I give it to you...what are you gonna do with it? What are you gonna do to anyone else playing the game? You can’t possibly stop everyone from playing!”

>Tell him you’re destroy any Chronicle Gashats you come across. You can’t stop everyone but you’ll damn well try!

“I don’t know. I just don’t want people getting killed.” You say softly. Your face hardens with determination as you continue. “I may not be able to stop everyone. I might even fail a few times. But I can damn well try! Now, give me your Gashat!” You ask again firmly. Akihiko looks at you seriously, you think you might even see some sadness in his eyes. “Alright…” He says handing it over. “I believe you but...It’s not fair. This sounds like a job for an adult! We should be the ones making a safer place for the youth!” He says steadfastly. You can’t believe it, even after all that he still manages to hold to his ideals. You can’t help it this time. You just roll your eyes at him and nod towards the hospital. “Alright, let’s get this over with. I’m sure the nurses are going to freak out when they see me.”

Akihiko shakes his head, “Nonsense, I’ll explain exactly what happened!” He says. You suppress a laugh. “Right they totally won’t take it the wrong way.” You say sarcastically. “What do you mean?” He asks confused. “Well you know, older adult with a really young girl? Someone might accidentally think…” You leave it up in the air for Akihiko to fill in the blanks.

“W-why I would never do such a thing!” He stammers as his face grows bright red. “I’m simply doing my civil duties! Helping those in need!” You shake your head. You didn’t think you could ever meet someone so oblivious.
Inside Seito University Hosptial

The inside of the hospital’s waiting room was full of people waiting to be attended to. Despite the many people, the lobby was pretty quiet. You walk up to the receptionist whose back was turned to you as she was organizing some papers, “Excuse me. I think I need to see a doctor.” You say. Turning to look at you she gives you a polite smile for a moment before everything sinks in, “Why of course miss, if you could just fill in- Oh god! What happened!” She gets on the comms. “Doctor required in the lobby. Repeat, doctor to the lobby.”

You rub your neck. “I was playing that new game. Kamen Rider Chronicles? It was really fun! But I took a bad fall down a hill into some trees.” You lie. “Almost got that boss kill too.” The nurse eyes you for a bit and your unsure if you bought your lie but she doesn’t press the issue. A few moments later a doctor arrives smiling and waving at you. He doesn’t seem to notice how bad you look or is simply unaware that your injuries might indication something worse. You’re not sure if you like that in a doctor.

“Director Kagami! When I asked for a doctor I didn’t mean-”

“Nonsense, nonsense! All the other doctors were preoccupied with other patients and I decided to lend a hand!” He says smiling. “Ohh look at you young lady! Coming all the way to the hospital all by yourself! You must be very grown up. Right this way! I think there’s a free room we can use over here.” He says leading you to the elevator. Your hesitation must have been very clear as the receptionist speaks up. “Don’t worry miss. Director Kagami, is one of our best doctors. Second only to his son. And he’s the best surgeon in the world.”

You nod and quickly follow the doctor into the elevator. While you are going up, he pulls out a small flashlight and begins examining your eyes. “Now, tell me. What exactly are you here for?” He asks moving to the other eye. You try to hold back your incredulity as you explain, slowly, that you have many cuts and bruises after taking a bad fall while playing Kamen Rider Chronicle.

“Kamen Rider Chronicle?!” He asks leaning in really close to your face. “Did you say Kamen Rider Chronicle?” He whispers conspiratorially with you. You nod nervously. Did he know? No he couldn’t. He’s just a doctor. Genm Corp couldn’t have ties with hospitals. They’re just a game company. As you feel his steely gaze on your face, Director Kagami pulls back. “Oh never heard it.” he says dismissively. “You kids and technology. I envy you. When I was younger, I had to pretend to have fun.” He chuckles politely pointing to your arm to ask for permission to check it. While he raises the sleeve to your hoodie, you notice he’s going to great lengths to not injure you. Even his grip is firm enough to hold your arm in place but lenient enough that you can pull away any time you want.

He simply nods and takes a small note in a notepad he had in his lab coat before leading you an empty room at the end of the hall. “Take a seat miss. I’m sorry to ask but we need you to fill out these forms.” He says rummaging around a few drawers before slowly stopping as he goes a bit pale. “Oh no! I forgot to print out moooore!” He shouts running out of the door, leaving you alone in the room. A nurse walks in and begins to take your basic vitals. Director Kagami returns with several armfulls of papers. “Here you go miss. Just take two and fill them out please.” He says smiling.
>>
While you fish around for two separate papers you hear Director Kagami’s tone change. “Patient is about 17-18 years of age, does not bear signs of a concussion. Bruises indicate that there might be muscle tearing. No blood pooling in her eyes. Could you please ready an x-ray to check for internal bleeding?”

Wait what?

How did he figure that out? He only checked one arm and your eyes! The nurse nods and quickly moves out of the room. The director simply sits on a stool and spins around slowly, almost whimsically. His next question however is as serious as his prognosis.

“So...who hit you?”

You gulp, unsure how to reply but he continues. “The bruises around your face. Those could be from falling. But that one on your right cheek.” He says pointing. “That’s from a slap. A heavy handed one at that.” You look away. You had completely forgotten about the encounter with Mr. Nakamura. “So, who hit you?” He asks again.

>What do you do?
>Lie. Tell him that you must’ve bumped into another player while you were playing Chronicles.
>Try to dodge the question. You don’t really want to remember that right now.
>Tell him the truth. Kinda. You wanted to tell someone you know what happened to their missing relative and he snapped at you.

So side question guys, I usually try and wait for at least 2 or 3 votes before choosing a result. So it usually ends up taking like a half hour or more before I move on. Are you guys ok with that pace or should I just set like a 20 minute voting period?

I feel like votes don't come in fast enough to warrant a time limit but I also don't want to stall the game and have people lose interest.

You fidget, you’re not sure why. The director wasn’t being pushy, in fact, you found him a bit odd. His whimsical demeanor and serious diagnosis just didn’t add up or at least, didn’t gell well together. But for some reason, you couldn’t help but trust him.

Is this how a true doctor makes you feel?
After a long awkward silence, you feel yourself break down. You’re not sure if it’s because the director is the first adult today to genuinely ask about your well being or if the question threw you off guard long enough that you lost control of the dam that was holding back all your bottled up emotions. Choking back sobs and trying to hold back tears, you tell the director all that happened. That all you wanted to do was to make sure Yuta’s family knew what had happened to their son/nephew, how you felt it was ultimately your fault and all you wanted to do was the right thing.

You go on to narrate about your escape, how you ended up fighting a monster and nearly died, that you didn’t know why this was happening but you were going to give it all had and save everyone you could. All you really wanted to do was see your friends again and you didn’t know how beating the game was going to bring them back.

As you finish your tale and rub your eyes with your bloody knuckles, Director Kagami let’s out a sad sigh. “You’ve chosen a hard path it seems. It always seems like the youth of today needs to face the dangers the adults sow. It’s not right.” He stands up and quietly collects the pages he had strewn about letting you grieve in peace for a while. “Take as long as you need to young miss. When you’re ready, we’ll file a police report.” You look at him in shock. “W-what?” You ask confused. Did...did believe you?

The director nods, “The lawyer, he struck you. If I remember correctly, that’s a crime. Don’t worry. I’ll be with you to make sure nothing else happens. I know a few people in the police that can lend a hand. I know how slippery some people can be when it comes to avoiding the law.” He says neatly storing the papers in a drawer. After a moment he adds, “Miss...Yukihara. Have you eaten yet? Do you have somewhere to stay?”

“Not today, I mean, I haven’t eaten yet but I do have somewhere to stay.” You reply a bit confused. The director nods, “I see. Give me a moment. I’ll see if we have some cake. Glucose is a good way to recover from fatigue. Or at least that’s what my son says. I’ll see if I can sneak some of his cakes out for you.” He says with a wink and a smile as he goes back to his goofy demeanor.

“Wait! Why are you doing all this?” You ask confused moving up to him. “You’re a doctor, I get that but...I’m no one special. Why go out of your way to call the police and get me food and…” Director Kagami chuckles and places a reassuring hand on your shoulder interrupting you.

“Because I’m not just a doctor. I’m your doctor.”
>>
You stand there for a moment and nod quietly as he leaves you alone to your thoughts. You sit down on the stool he was spinning on a few moments ago. Wiping your tears away you wonder if he was the only adult who took you seriously while you were living out here. Sure there were adults that you competed against in tournaments but in that environment people interacted differently. Your sponsors didn’t take you seriously but because you won and brought in the money they put up with you. Thinking back, did your parents approve of your career?

>No. When you announced that you wanted to be a pro gamer, you argued and ultimately they disowned you. It was rough the first few months but you had managed to get by.
>Yes. You have a good relationship with your parents. They were worried about your choice of career but they supported you. You can’t remember the last time you spoke to them though.
>Unsure. You never met your parents. You lived on the streets most of your life, using games and competitions to make enough money to live on as long as you can remember.

Whatever your thoughts were, as you sat there waiting you think you can hear some commotion going on down the hall. The sounds of things being thrown about and someone shouting in pain. You think you heard it spill out into the hallway itself. Maybe you should go check it out, someone might need some help. Then again, this is a hospital. So there’s probably people there to deal with it anyways.

>Stay in your room. You’re too tired and hungry to care.
>Peek out the door. You don’t have to get involved but you still want to know what’s going on.

You make a mental note to call mom and dad and get off the stool. You tiptoe over to the door and open it just a crack so you can peek out into the hall. It’s empty save for what looks like an overturned chair. That must’ve been what made the loud noise. Just when you think the mystery is solved you see a metal bed pan fly out of an open door. It crashes against the wall with enough force that it lands on the ground, folded in half. Following that, you see a woman stumble out of the same room clutching at her chest, groaning. She collapses and sobs, clearly in pain.

“Oh no! Please ma’am!” You hear a nurse running out to try and comfort the poor woman. The woman thrashes about and you notice that her skin is emitting the same digital particles your friends made when they vanished! “Someone! Help!” The nurse screams in panic. Before you can even decide what to do the thrashing woman lets out a shriek and is fully enveloped in the particles before she morphs into some kind of creature!

It looks like some kind of oni or demon wielding a jeweled staff. You immediately recognize it as one of the enemy characters from 「Taddle Quest 」! The monster lets out a gloating laugh, “Almost complete! Then I will be able to conquer any land I choose! And none of you humans can stop me! All I need is a few minions…Summon Monster I!”

The monster waves its staff in the air, conjuring two arcane circles that begin to spew out more monsters! They look human save for their oddly shaped orange heads. The nurse screams and backs up to a nearby wall. “No! Stay away!” She shouts raising her arms in fear.

How did a game character come to life?! What’s going on?
>What do anons?!
>Transform! You made an oath and you’re determined to keep it. No matter the cost to your well being.
>Stay untransformed. You took a real beating and you’re not sure if you can handle another brawl. That doesn’t mean you won’t sit still though! Try and pick up the nurse. You two can run to safety!
>Stay untransformed but flash your Gashat. The monster will probably recognize you as a player and focus on you giving the nurse time to get away. You could probably draw the monster away from the rest of the hospital patients.
>Call for help. Hospital security might be able to handle this.
>Write in.

....ohhhh, we're expected to know what these games are, already.

Does Reiko here know any Mighty Action X moves? Guessing its got fewer options than, say, megaman.
>>
>>3894740
Not really. I'll try to be more descriptive about the games the monsters come from, from now on. That's my bad. In character Reiko would know these games due to her pro gamer background.

Might Action X is a platformer in cannon so beyond just jumping on your enemies and searching for powerups, there aren't many moves to know. She'd know that Might Action X can weild his hammer but currently she's unaware that she's capable of summoning it while transformed as well as being able to change stages(aka teleporting herself and the enemy somewhere else)

She does have that manual she can read though. She just hasn't given herself time.
>>

You burst out of the door and shout, “Hey ugly!” The monster turns to look at you. “Human! Prepare to bow down to my powerful magics!” He waves his want as you smirk, “Game on then.” You say as you reach into your pocket for...absolutely nothing. You visibly wince as you remember you had left both your driver and gashat in your bag, which was in the room you just left. The monster laughs as your hurls a large fireball in your direction!

You yelp and throw yourself back into your waiting room and slam the door shut, burning your hands slightly as the fireball heats up the door. Ignoring the pain, you rush to your bag and rummage through it trying to find your items. The driver was easy enough to find, considering its size but the Gashat seems to have been lost among all your things! You can hear heavy footsteps coming towards you as many hands begin to bang against the door.

Come on! Where is it?! You think furiously to yourself as you vow never to leave your stuff alone again.

Meanwhile out in the hall…

The monster slowly makes his way towards the door the human girl had run into. You almost had her but she was faster than a regular human. You didn’t expect her to react that fast. “Come out human! And I’ll make your end quick.” You gloat readying another spell. Maybe you’ll burn her alive. Or perhaps, you’ll freeze her to death. You don’t have much time to decide because when you approach the door you can faintly hear,

”MIGHTY ACTION X!”

”GASHATTO!”

And the door suddenly rockets towards you!
>Kamen Rider Ex Aid vs Aranbura the Wizard!

The door you kicked slams into the opposite wall crushing Aranbura. You run out and towards the minions. There’s too many too keep track of right now so you better thin their numbers. ”Go! Get out of here! Warn everyone!” You shout at the nurse. You manage to grab to two of the minions by the neck and smash them together before thrusting your leg behind you to strike another. You jump over a group of them and position yourself between the monsters and the elevators that lead downstairs.

The minions rush towards you flailing their limbs. You duck under one and punch it in the gut but another manages to grab your arm! ”Hey! Let go!” you say angrily lifting the poor minion. ”Here. We. GO!” you shout as you javelin toss your foe straight into an item box revealing a power up!

”Iron Body!”

Item Get: Iron Body
Using this item gives you a +2 bonus when attempting to endure damage. The increased weight from converting your body to iron allows you to use the bonus when trying to be unmovable.

Energy items collected 1 out of 3
Iron Body

”Nice!” You say collecting the item. Aranbura finally manages to push the door off himself. “Human! How dare- YOU!” He roars pointing his finger accusingly at you. “You dare show your face again! We bugsters will never forgive you for using us!”

”wut” is all you can manage in your confusion as you punch another minion. You don’t have much time to think about it as Aranbura waves his stave again conjuring up fireballs to launch at you!

>Fire is bad! You gotta get Aranbura out of the hospital before he burns it down. What do?
>Try to take his staff! It seems to be a medium for his magic! You’ll have to take your attention away from the minions though.
>Use your new power up to endure the attacks and finish off the minions. You’re here to protect people, let your body be their shield!
>Try to maneuver the fight to somewhere else. It’ll be difficult because of all the enemies but if you manage to do so, you’ll have the advantage and you can limit the people being injured! (Choose a nearby location you want to try to go to. Like the parking lot by going out a window, the roof tthrough the stairs, the stairs themselves ect. Has to make sense though.)

Aranbura hurls a fireball towards you. Instinctively, you pull a minion nearby in front of you causing it to take the fireball in your place. The minion squeal in pain and shock as it flails in panic before it explodes into the same vanishing particle effect that was surrounding the woman. You back up a bit and grab two more of the minions and shoving them in front of you. Aranbura takes a step towards you to keep up with you as his fireballs follow. Taking a mental note of that, you formulate a plan. Using more minions as shields, you pretend to stumble and fall under the onslaught of fireballs pulling another minion on top of you.

Aranbura chuckles darkly as he steps towards you. He swings his staff around and absorbs the fireballs into it causing it to ignite! He lets out a roar and rushes towards you, swinging his staff down towards you. You activate your Iron Body power up just in the nick of time as he strikes you! You feel the flames envelop you but you don’t feel any pain and your HUD indicates you took no damage!

Aranbura recoils from the shock of striking a solid metal object. His weapon bounces off of you and leaves him wide open for an attack!

Aranbura laughs in your face, “Did you forget about my supreme magical abilities Genm?! Fool! Feel the wrath of my arcane might!” He shouts as electricity explodes from his staff and envelops you! You cry in pain as sparks fly from both the electricity and your suit. Aranbura lets out another laugh as he gloats over your spasming body. He raises raises his staff and swings it like a golf club sending you flying across the hall into another door. You crash through it and into another patient’s room. A woman screams as she runs over you and towards the bed containing a small child. Through the screams you can hear your HUD ringing in alarm as your can see your HP counter fall and Aranbura making his way towards you as he charges up another spell.

You wrap your arms around him and slam your shoulder into his stomach. Planting your feet firmly on the ground you begin to push him back with all your might. As you two struggle back and forth, the woman runs out and towards the stairs carrying her child. Aranbura tries to cast a spell at them but you slam your shoulder into him again and interrupt his spell casting. “Not this time asshole.” You growl as you force him back.

Aranbura smacks you with his weapon but it no longer holds a charge and you keep shoulder checking him every time he attempts to gather magic. “Genm, what do you think your doing?! Saving lives? You think you can change? I don’t know how you survived Parado’s attack but I will end you here!”

“Who the hell is Genm?! What do you know about Genm Corp?!” You shout throwing him off of you. He flies through the air and smashes into the window at the end of the hall cracking the glass. “Don’t play dumb! You know what you did!” Aranbura shouts as he begins prepping another attack.

You roar as you run full sprint towards Aranbura. With your enhanced speed it doesn’t give him time to recover as you jump, front flip, and extend your leg for a Rider Kick!
CRASH!

The window shatters under the impact when your foot collides with Aranbura’s chest. You both fall two stories before crashing down on a hand full of vehicles that were parked along the street. They flatten under the impact and for a moment you worry that you’ve might have broken something. You don’t have much time to consider it as you stagger off the car and stumble towards Aranbura swinging your fist at him. He doesn’t seem to be doing much better as your fist easily collides with his face. You grunt and throw a sloppy kick that barely manages to connect before your legs give out and you have to resort to using your arms to hold you up. Your HP remains stable but it seems like your previous injuries are catching up to your real body.

Aranbura steadies himself and tosses bolts of lightning at you but you barely manage to scrape through by rolling out of the way and behind the car you flattened. “Your time is over Genm!” Aranbura announces blasting the car with fire. “This time I’ll make sure you’ll never come back.”

>Reiko’s not doing so well guys. But neither is Aranbura. What’s the game plan?
>Power ups! Power ups always help!
>Your previous plan was pretty good. Close the distance between you too and keep up the pressure to prevent you foe from casting spells.
>Try to sneak away. You’re not sure if you can finish this fight. Hopefully he’ll get tired of looking for you and leave. You don’t know what will happen to the woman who turned into him though.

Roll/no roll?

Yeah sorry about that. Roll please.

I think...we need to get Reiko that Gashacon Breaker. Or some better dice.
>>
Incidentally if you guys know of a better dice system than 1d20 best of three. I'm all ears. While I'm digging the rollercoaster we go through. It's really starting to bug me that we can't get higher than a 10.

You steady yourself and charge at Aranbura with a shout. Unfortunately your jump kick is intercepted by a lightning bolt to the chest. The pain and shock drop you like a rock and you writhe in agony. The monster walks over to you and kicks you across the street. You skid and crash into another vehicle causing a massive indent and completely destroying the side of it. As you struggle to get to your feet, Aranbura brings down his staff crashing into your head knocking you back down.

Your HUD flashes red as your opponent continues to rain blows upon you, each hit chipping away at your HP.

Hit!

/////IIII

Hit!

/////II

Hit!

You struggle to get up, growling. This wasn’t you anymore. You weren’t going to take life laying down like some weak child! You had made an oath! And you weren’t going to back down now!

>Reiko is in a really bad place right now. We did it last time. Can we do it again? Roll to get out of this! Believe in Justice!

I don't have a reaction image for this shit. But i'm fucking writting up some kind of trait for this. Reiko's definitely developed some kind of feat or whatever from getting beat down and just channeling all that is Just and smiting bugsters with it.

Goddamn, what a ride.

In true Rider fashion we pull out bullshit when pushed to the edge. FOR GREAT JUSTICE!

”Enough!” You command catching the staff in your left hand and holding it tight with an unyielding grip. As unyeilding as your resolve. You slowly get up as Aranbura struggles to pry himself free. ”I said, ENOUGH!” you shout driving your right fist into his gut and sending him staggering back a few feet leaving the staff in your hand. Aranbura looks at his empty hands and growls, “Lucky shot! But I’m not done with you just yet!” He rushes ready to strike you but you simply slam your fist again into his stomach. Aranbura grunts and staggers back again as you begin to slowly make you way towards him. Slow, not because of pain and fatigue but with purpose. You’re going to make a point. And Aranbura is going to listen.

Aranbura notices your new demeanor and he begins to approach you with a bit of caution. He doesn’t get to try anything because you swing your left arm in a back hand motion and strike him with the staff. It shatters on impact and your foe falls his back causing him to scramble backwards in fear. ”I don’t know what you things are. But I know you might have the ability to respawn like in a video game. You have to be able to because otherwise Chronicles would have been a terrible idea if there was a chance your kind could be permanently killed by some random player. Speaking of which, you called yourself a Bugster right?” You ask picking up Aranbura by the neck and lifting him up to slam your knee into his chest.

Aranbura hacks up air as he holds his stomach and stumbles backward. ”So listen up Bugster. When you go back to the respawn lobby with the others. When they ask you what happened. Tell them that they better watch their steps because I’m around. And I’m not going to tolerate their human killing bullshit.” You continue with a round house to his face. You come to a dead stop as Aranbura crashes into a trash heap. The time for words was over. You remove your Gashat from your driver and move it to you side.

"Gashun!"

”Gashatto!”

”Finisher!

You charge up all the energy in your legs. All your pain, your frustration and your desire to do good. With a running start you jump and go for a Rider Kick!
”MIGHTY CRITICAL STRIKE!”

Your foot slams into the monster and explodes with energy! But you’re not done. You continue with a flurry of kicks, defying gravity, flipping back on to the ground and continuing to kick filling the air with dozens of Hit! markers before you backflip for some distance and finish it off with one final Rider Kick!

”PERFECT STRIKE!”

You land behind the monster and he slowly turns choking with pain.“W-what...What are you?” He chokes. The last thing he hears before he’s consumed by the energy and explodes is, ”I’m Kamen Rider Ex Aid.”

”GAME CLEAR!”
”GAME CLEAR!”

FUUUUUK I ruined that formatting! I'm so sorry! Sigh...anyways. That's the end of this thread. Next time i'm starting a new one. Hope you enjoyed this and see you guys next thread! If you got advice and all that let me know. I'll be working on that new trait. Maybe a bonus to rolls depending on how damaged you are. Or letting you roll twice when on your last legs.
>>
>>3895632
No advice so far, everything looks good. Had fun though. Looking forward to the next thread.

Here's a link to my twitter I made for a previous quest that kinda died when real life hit the fan. But it should help organize things I guess.
