Welcome back to Kamen Rider Chronicles! You play as Reiko Yukihara, Genius Pro Gamer and bearer of the Gamer Driver. With your black 「Mighty Action X 」Gashat and unwavering sense of Justice, you’ve decided to investigate Genm Corp’s newest game 「Kamen Rider Chronicle 」after witnessing the death of all three of your friends at the hands of a Red and Blue Kamen Rider.

In the last Episode, you’ve managed to bungle up delivering terrible news to one of your fallen friend’s family members and nearly get arrested because of it. After a daring escape, you jumped into the fray to save the life of Chronicle player also dubbed Ride Player and nearly died in the process! Deciding to go to the hospital for your injuries, you met the director who was your appointed doctor and despite his goofy demeanor seemed to believe your wild stories while giving his all to make sure you were ok. Unfortunately, it seems rest wasn’t in the cards for you as the hospital was attacked by a woman who transformed into a monster!

Nearly dying again, you managed to gather everything you had to finish off the monster in a spectacular fashion! But not before sending a message, that you were here to stay and protect the people of Seito City from your new sworn enemy: The Bugsters.

Fighting, death, tears all with a healthy dose of massive property damage! All in one day! What else can we get up to now?

Before we start, your insane rolls have earned Reiko a trait reflecting her ability to comeback from the brink of defeat. Choose one please!

>Comeback Queen: When the chips are down, when your back is to the wall, you’re willing to lay it all on the line for one last push. When Reiko’s HP bar is on it’s last third, represented by five or less forward slashes /////, you can choose to have your next roll have a massive +5 bonus representing her unwavering resolve and unwillingness to accept defeat laying down. This bonus stacks with any power ups found but can only be used once per encounter. One last push means one last push after all.
>Down but not out: You’re going to take hits, it’s going to hurt. But you’ve learned to use your pain as a motivator. The pain you feel is nothing compared to the pain of losing someone and you’re determined to never let anyone feel that because of the Bugsters. For every third of your HP you lose you get a cumulative +1 to your rolls capping out at +2 when on your last third. While smaller than Comeback queen, this bonus lasts throughout the entire encounter regardless if you recover HP through power ups and still stacks with power up bonuses.

With all that out of the way, let’s get started on Episode 2!

“Hurry up and transform! My heart is burning for another fight.”

You feel one of his hands close around your throat as you struggle to get away but to no avail. He’s just too strong. The Red and Blue Kamen Rider leans over you and forces your copy of 「Kamen Rider Chronicle 」into your hand. “Come on! It’s easy! Just push the button.” he laughs as you start to feel your vision fade. This was it. This was how you were going to die. You think you can hear someone running towards you. No… you think weakly. Stay away...
”PARADO!

You wake with a start! Breathing heavily, you look around trying to get ahold of your surroundings. Your entire body aches and you’re drenched in sweat. As your vision adjusts to the dim light you find yourself in what looks to be a surgery room. Or at least what you think was one. The room looks clean but abandoned. Chairs and tables set against the wall, IV drip stands are on the floor, and various boxes were stacked in another corner of the room. Looking up you notice a small window from what you can assume is a second floor where doctors can look down into where you were.

You try to stand only to find your body wracked with pain! Finally turning your attention to your body, you see your arms and hands are covered in bandages. You’re wearing a hospital gown and raising it you see your stomach and body covered bandages. Bringing your hands to your head, you see it had various bandaids and a bandage around your forehead. Despite all this, only two questions come to mind.

Where am I? And how did I get here?

>What do we do?
>Go back to sleep. If someone brought us here then they’ll probably come back to check up on us. We can ask questions later.
>Try to get out of bed. You never got anything done by sitting around. Maybe you find clues as to where you are.
>My Driver and Gashat! Look for your things. While it’d suck that you’ll probably never see your messenger bag. You were certain those two things were on your person when you won the fight.

Alright going back bed. We've had enough for today.

You lay back down in bed. No, you’d deal with this in the morning. Or whatever time it is when you woke up. There weren’t any windows around here which was odd. It doesn’t take long before you go back to a fitful but uneventful sleep. When you come to, you find that your room is fully lit. Next to you, on a bedside table is a small cake. The sound of moving doors turns your attention to your right to the automatic double doors closing behind Director Kagami as he enters waving politely at you. “You know, you’re the first Kamen Rider I’ve met to actually do the sensible thing and rest when you need to.” He muses looking over a clip board. “Now you really should eat your cake. I had to sneak around to get it.” He whispers holding a finger to his mouth.

You look at him confused. So he actually did believe you? Was he the one who brought you here? So many questions whirled in your head.

>Ask if he’s the one who brought you here.
>Ask where you are. You don’t recognize this part of the hospital.
>Ask what happened to you after the fight. That part of your memory is a bit blank.
>Ask what happened to the woman. You beat the monster but you aren’t sure if that means she died with him. That idea gives you a hollow feeling in your stomach.
>Eat you cake. It’s been an entire day since you’ve eaten anything and your stomach is not happy.

You reach over and take the small cake. It had white frosting and two little peach slices resting on top. Taking a bite, you enjoy the sweetness as you take a better look around the room. While still sparse, you notice a few unplugged computers and white boards that seem to be obscuring a kind of logo on the wall. Leaning a bit you can barely make out that the logo bore the letters ”CR”. You tug a bit at your bandages as they made bending your arms a bit difficult.

“What happened?” You find yourself asking Director Kagami. “Eh?! Don’t tell me you have amnesia!” He says examining your eyes with his flashlight. You wave him away. “No, I mean...after the fight. I remember all that. I won.” You say taking another bite. Director Kagami nods sagely. “Ahh, yes you did! The operation was a success!” He says proudly giving you a thumbs up. “I didn’t see it of course but we found you and the woman collapsed on the street. You made quite a mess out there. I think you totalled 3 cars in total and destroyed the window on the second floor. But I managed to get you both back to the hospital and banaged you up. The woman was discharged shortly afterwards.” You wince. You didn’t really try to destroy things when you fight but the enhanced strength and speed you get while transformed make it very hard. Realization dawns on you shortly afterwards.

“Operation? Was I that hurt?” You ask worried and you gingerly touch the bandages on your stomach. Doctor Kagami tilts his head confused. “Hurt? Well yes, but it was mostly cuts and bruises. You might have a bit of microtearing in you muscles but you’ll be better in a few days. Think of it like the way you break down muscle while working out to get stronger.” He says cheerfully. You shake your head. “Then what do you mean operation?” You insist. “Was the woman hurt because of me?” You ask worry unabated.

Director Kagami still maintains his confused look. “You mean you don’t know?” He asks sitting down in a nearby chair. “The bugster removal operation. That is why you transformed right?”

You scratch your head. “No?” You say sheepishly. “Ehhhhhh?! You mean you just ran to fight a monster without knowing what you were getting into?!” The director shouts in surprise as he falls out of his chair. “You really are something…” He says in awe as he gets to his feet. You can’t help but feel a bit of pride from that and you get the feeling that the director feels the same thing as he said it. Not wanting to sit in silence you decide to ask another question.

>Ask where you are, and what he’s doing here. Surely there must be other doctors that could take over for him.
>Ask him where you are and what does CR stand for. You get the feeling this isn’t an ordinary hospital room.
>Ask him what a bugster is. And what he meant by the operation.

“So what is a bugster?” You ask. “That monster I beat before said that name too.” Director Kagami sits himself back on the chair and thinks. “A bugster...is well a bug. We’re not sure where they came from but we know that they are a type of virus that infects humans and slowly begins to rewrite their DNA.”

“A virus? You mean like a virugs like a computer one or like the flu kind?” You ask confused. Doctor Kagami nods. “Both, we know that the bugster virus has ties with electronics as they can go into them and hide there but they also infect humans and attack that way as well. The virus needs a human host so that the monster that emerges from the victim can use their DNA to become whole and real.” He explains. “So then, the operation you mentioned…” You say voicing your thoughts.

Director Kagami nods, “Yes, thats what you did. Kamen Riders have the ability to separate the bugster from the patient and eliminate the virus thus saving the patient’s life.”

You nod and poke at your cake as you gathered your thoughts and let the information sink in. You figure that since the director is explaining things, you might as well ask some more questions.

>Ask about the “we” he keeps mentioning. Does that mean other doctors know about this.
>Ask why isn’t this public knowledge. Wouldn’t the department of health want people to know about this.
>Director Kagami mentioned Kamen Riders. As in plural. Does that mean there are others fighting with you? Ask about that.

"How come the Department of Health hasn't done anything?" You ask. "It's their job to keep us safe!" You shout. You felt your anger rising. "Did they know about Chronicles? Why didn't they say anything if they did?" You demand. "My friends would've been alive!" Director Kagami shakes his head sadly. "They did. We did." He sighs and runs his fingers through his hair. Suddenly he doesn't appear to be a whimsical director but rather a tired doctor. One who felt the weight of many lives on his shoulders.

"This all started on what we call 'Zero Day'. That's when the first known buster virus outbreak occurred. Suddenly people began to develop the same sickness you saw yesterday. 'Game Syndrome'. To combat this new threat CR or cyber rescue was created. Unfortunately our initial attempts to quell the disease failed and many civilians were lost. The department of health cut our funding but allowed us to stay online if only as an afterthought." Director Kagami shakes his head gravely. "If only they knew what would happen years later." He mutters.

"But what does this have to do with Kamen Riders?" You ask. Director Kagami nods. "Still on the beat, huh? Well...in an effort to combat this threat the Department of Health coordinated with the premier tech company Sito City had."

You feel this the blood drain from your face. "You don't mean…" You whisper. The director nods. "Yes, Genm Corp."

The director stands and begins to pace around as if mulling something over. "The next part I'm going to tell you is confidential. No one outside of the government and CT knows. It's only because of your unique position that I'm telling you."

You nod solemnly. Finally, you're getting some answers. The director nods. "A few months back we-"

"FATHER THAT'S ENOUGH!"

You and the Director's attention snap to the door as you see a young man striding through the double doors, his face stern and serious. "Hiiro? When did you get here?" The director asks nervously. "I came down when I noticed someone had powered up the CR labs." The young man you assume to be named Hiiro says. "You know we're no longer allowed to continue operations."

"Hiiro don't say that. We can finally start fighting back. If we can show that we have another-." The director protests.

"No! We have a duty to our patients. Not to play hero." Hiiro counters. "We no longer have the means to fight back."

You look between the two confused. They're clearly arguing about CR but you're not sure how you fit into this.

What do you do.

>Let them argue. You might hear something slip.

"But we do!" The director insists. "She's a rider!"

“Playing Chronicles does not make you a rider!” Hiiro counters. “She needs a proper Gashat and even then she’d need to go through compatibility surgery.”

“But she…” The director starts falls silent. “She beat two bugsters yesterday. One was even a patient of ours. Even without proper training she managed to defeat them! She’s like the intern! He did it on his own on his first time too.”

Hiiro slams his hands on a nearby table. “She is not the intern!” He shouts and glares at the both of you. “She’s not the intern, the unlicensed doctor, or the corner.” He quickly strides over to you and holds out his hand. “Give it to me.” He orders.

“What?” You ask dumbfounded.

“Your Chronicles Gashat. Give it to me. You have no idea what you’re getting into. This isn’t a game.” He says sternly, his eyes unwavering.

>Give him your stuff?
>No. You don’t know what the whole story is here but you’re not going to just hand over the one thing that might help you get to the bottom of this.
>No. Tell him off. He doesn’t know you or what you’ve been through. Show him that you can handle this yourself by transforming in his face. You’re not just some random Ride Player.
>Yes. This sounds like it’s way over your head. If you give them your driver and gashat they might have a much better job at solving this than you. It seems like they have some history with all that’s going on.

“No.”

“What?” Hiiro asks angrily. “I said no.” You reply stubbornly. “I don’t know what’s going on but my Driver and Gashat are the only things that can help me find out what’s going on in this city.” You struggle out of bed as your body screams in protest. You feel like you’ve run several marathons and then followed that up with a few MMA tournaments. “Where’s my stuff?” You ask as your trembling legs carry you around the room. “Reiko please!” Director Kagami rushes towards you and tries to get you back in bed. “You need to rest! Your body hasn’t fully recovered yet!” You shrug him off and make your way to the double automatic doors.

The doors lead to a hallway with what appears to be an elevator to the end. To your right there seems to be a set of stairs that you assume leads to where that window was you saw while resting.

“I’m not gonna be told what to do by some rando doctor who doesn’t even try to fight what’s going on in the city.” You pant as you begin to climb the stairs. You’re sweating profusely by the time you reach the top.

What’s going on?

You wonder to yourself. The fights weren’t even that long and you weren’t this tired after your first one. At the top of the stairs is what looks like a small lounge, complete with a small arcade off in the corner. Your bag and Driver are laying on it, so you stumble over to collapse on them in exhaustion.

As Hiiro and the director catch up to you, they notice you clutching your items to your chest in teenage defiance. “I’m gonna save this city.” You announce. “Even if I have to fight one bugster at a time.”

Hiiro’s eyes widen, “A Gamer Driver?! And a Proto Gashat!” He tries to pull them from your hands but your grip is like iron. “Where did you get these?! How are you able to use them?!” He demands. You return his questions with a glare and he strides to the nearest stack of boxes. Throwing them open he searches frantically through them, roughly discarding the boxes that evidently don’t have what he wants and scattering objects all over the floor. Finally he pulls out what looks to be a stethoscope but it seems to have and odd ending point where the receiver would be. He wears it around his neck and moves back to you as he holds it out as if to scan you. Oddly enough, that’s exactly what it seems to do as a holo projection emits from the odd end but you can’t make out what it says. “No symptoms…” He mutters studying the projection. He sits down at a nearby table and holds his chin, thinking.

“Where did you get those?” He asks again. “Can you actually use them?”

>How do you reply?
>Tell him the truth. If he knows about the bugsters like his father then maybe he’ll be able or at least willing to help. Maybe he can tell you who sent the note. You’re pretty sure his dad would tell him anyways.

Ha! I don't think anyone from Ex-Aid's cast is even close to being good husbando material. Hiiro has the emotional range of a wet rag, and that's not even going into his oneitis over his dead gf. You roll out off the sofa and stand on shaky legs. You press your driver to you waist and slowly raise your Gashat in the air. Hiiro slowly rises from his seat. “Girl what do you think your doing?” He asks cautiously. You only respond by pushing the button.

Mighty Action X!

“Reiko! Please calm down!” The director pleas waving his hands in a pacifying motion. You shake your head and point your Gashat at Hiiro. “You have 10 seconds to tell me what is going on. Otherwise, I’m leaving.” You say glaring. “I made a vow that I’m going to get to the bottom of this, and I’m going to save this city one person at a time.” Hiiro returns the glare and looks around in frustration. “You tell me what I want to know and I’ll tell you what I know.” You insist readying to insert the Gashat.

“You’re really obstinate you know…” Hiiro snaps at you. You can’t help but grin at that. “You don’t get to my level by being a weak willed scrub.” The director nods. “I’ll tell you what you want to know. I was already wasn’t I?” He says.

“Fine, but one more thing.” You demand catching their attention. “I want him to apologize.”

“WHAT?” The director and Hiiro say in unison. Hiiro rolls his eyes. “I have nothing more to say to you until you tell me what you know.” The director however, thinks otherwise. He puts an arm around Hiiro and shakes him a bit. “Hiiiiiro! You have to apologize! She’s a lady! Don’t be like that!” He pushes him down into a bow as Hiiro struggles to break free. “Now say it.” The director insists.

“Fine!” Hiiro grumbles. “I’m deeply sorry about earlier.” He says gruffly. You’re not sure if he means it or not but at least you got him to say it.

The director gives you a thumbs up and grins. “See? Now we can all work together.” He lets go of his son and sits down. “Now where was I? Oh right. A few months ago, another outbreak of the bugster virus occurred, however, this time we were prepared. Genm Corp, had developed a means of fight back and saving our patients. The Gamer Driver and Gashats. We readied a group of Kamen Riders and managed to get a foothold in fighting back against this epidemic. However we were betrayed by Genm Corp’s CEO, Dan Kuroto. He was working alongside the bugsters to develop what he called ‘The Ultimate Game’.”

“「Kamen Rider Chronicle 」” You reply gravely. Director Kagami nods, “Yes. The Department of Health was aware of this and had tasked us with stopping Dan Kuroto and apprehending him. We had him cornered and we thought the best course of action was to limit his ability to work with the population by broadcasting a warning of both the bugster virus and his work.”

“Why didn’t you?” You ask. You never heard of such a broadcast. You weren’t up to date with current events but you’d think that the reveal of a new disease would send the internet going crazy.
>>
>>3898102
“We never got the chance.” Hiiro says finally speaking up. “On the day of broadcast, the station was attacked by Dan and his Cohorts. The Riders had been drawn to a different location when we heard of a massive outbreaks of the virus in several locations of the city. We were spread out and by the time we realized what was going on, it was too late.” He takes a seat with his back towards you. “By the time we had caught up with Dan, he himself was betrayed by Parado. A bugster he worked with. He was undone by his own work and he died because of it. We think Parado may have planted a puppet as the head of the Ministry of Health. They used legal channels to shut down Cyber Rescue and forced us to relinquish our Drivers and Gashats. They had deemed CR ‘An absolute failure and waste of the citizens' money.’”

“Well you didn’t have to!” You argue. “You could have fought back! Stormed the building or something!”

“And put the lives of the people at risk? The Ministry of Health threatened to shut down the hospital. Can I trust you to explain to the patient’s families that their relatives died because you wanted to play super hero?” Hiiro counters. You fall silent. You hadn’t thought of that.

“On top of that we lost several good people.” The director says sadly. “One was killed in a fight with Dan Kuroto as he tried to solve the mystery behind Chronicles. Parado seemed to be able to exert some control over one of our members but he vanished before he had to return our equipment. We haven’t heard from him since.”
You sit back down on the sofa. This conspiracy went deeper than you thought. Virus monsters in control of both organizations capable of fighting back? Could you have figured this out on your own.

Hiiro turns to face you. “Now, where did you get your driver and Gashat?” He asks bluntly.

You feel yourself pout at him. This guy! Didn’t even give you a moment to process this new information. “Alright fine. It’s not much but I’ll tell you what I know.” You regale your tale once more. How you had bought your friends the game, how you saw them all vanish, how you received your Gashat and Driver in the mail and the subsequent fights you got into.

“Impossible.” Hiiro mutters. “You shouldn’t be able to transform. You haven’t underwent compatibility surgery.”

“What’s that? Am I supposed to have some kind of chip installed?” You ask confused. Hiiro shakes his head. “No, when a user undergoes compatibility surgery, a small sample of the bugster virus is introduced to the body so that the user begins to create antibodies. The antibodies help withstand the infusion of the virus you receive every time you transform.”

Wait what?
>>
>>3898105

“So your saying, everytime I transform I put this virus into my body?!” You exclaim. “I’m just killing myself?” Hiiro shakes his head. “No, the fact that you can transform means that the driver recognizes you as an inoculated person. That or it’s been modified somehow.”

Hiiro mulls something over for a while. “There’s only been one case where a user had been able to use the Driver without compatibility surgery. And you seem to match the same qualifications.”

He looks you straight in the eye and says,

“Reiko Yukihara, you have Game Syndrome.”

>Well shit anons, how does Reiko react?
>Deny it. You’ve been feeling fine this entire time. And if you did have the virus then why hadn’t you transformed into a monster yet.
>Ask how you could have possibly gotten it. Is it an airborne thing?
>Suggest that maybe the Gamer Driver is modified somehow. It seems more likely than having some rare sickness you’re magically immune to.

>>
>>3898106
“That can’t be! I feel fine!” You blurt out. “I mean, if I did why haven’t turned into one of the bugster?” You ask desperately. Hiiro thinks about it for a bit. “It could be that your Game Syndrome has been dormant all this time. The Game Scope indicates that you have no symptoms of the disease.”

He sets down his stethoscope device. “I could be that your virus has propagated and the bugster that was inside you is already running around the city. In either case, you’re still at risk. Should you become too stressed the virus will become active and if your Bugster is already out then it might have an ability to affect you somehow.”

You bring your knees to your chin in worry. You’re sick? But what about your promise? You laugh to yourself a bit. If you had found this out before you had gotten your Driver, you’d have been worried about your life and if you were going to be ok. Now the first thought that comes to mind is if you’ll still be able to help everyone. You stand up. “Well that’s good to know. If I find my bugster, I’ll be sure to kick his ass extra hard. If it was once part of me, then it won’t be no wuss!” You say grinning.

Hiiro shakes his head and rubs his temples. “Just like the intern…” He sighs. “You wouldn’t happen to have the last name Hojo, would you?” You shake your head no. “No, I’ve never heard of it.” You say confused. “Never mind.” Hiiro says in what you can almost say is relief?

“You mentioned, you had gotten a note along with your things?” He asks. You nod. “Yeah, It doesn’t say much. It barely even has a signature.” You rummage through your bad and pull out the book that came with your driver. You only know notice that it says “Level-0 Manual”. Level zero? What did that mean?

Putting that thought aside you open up the book and hand over the small note to Hiiro. He gives it a once over and asks urgently, “Did you see who gave you this box?!”

“N-no. I missed the delivery. By the time I got to the door the box was the only thing there. Why?”

“There’s not doubt, this handwriting. It’s the intern’s. Emu Hojo.” Hiiro replies firmly.
>>
With that. I'm gonna take a lunch break and I'll hop to the next part. See you guys later!
>>
>>3898261
“Who’s Emu?” You ask. “He was an intern here at the hospital. At that time we didn’t know how he was able to his driver without undergoing compatibility surgery. Turns out that he was infected with the bugster virus.” Hiiro responds. “We haven’t seen him since CR was forced to shut down.”

You frown. Another roadblock. “But why would he give me a Driver and Gashat? Why didn’t he just give it to you or someone else in CR?” Hiiro shakes his head. “Who knows what goes on in his mind. In anycase, we have no way of contacting him but the fact that he specifically said you were meant to wear this means he was aware of whatever gave you the ability to transform.”

“What if he infected me with the virus?” You ask prompting Hiiro to frown and think. “The intern would never willingly infect an innocent person.” He insists. “However, since we learned that Parado has some kind of control over him, perhaps we can’t entirely rule out that idea.”

“But now we can fight back Hiiro!” The director insists. “She’s a rider! Maybe we can start working on getting CR back online or maybe get the Gashats back!” Hiiro shakes his head and looks at you. “I presume you’re just going to ignore anything I say and do what you want.” He says and you nod smugly. “I’m here to save lives.” You say. “Do what you wish.” He says walking down stairs and towards the elevator.
“Reiko, do you really mean that?” The Director asks. You nod. “I do. I’ve take two down. I’m not backing out.”

“Excellent!” He says ecstatically before placing a sticky note on your forehead. “But first, you’re going to take two weeks rest before you do anything.” You huff but don’t disagree. The last time you fought, you had nearly collapsed mid fight. Better you get back to full strength before you do anything crazy.

>What do you do during your two weeks rest break?
>Study your gear and the manual. The better you know your equipment, the more effective you’ll be in battle.
>You know the Department of Health has all the Drivers and Gashats. Plan a way to get them back. The more Riders on your Side the bigger the fight you can bring to the Bugsters.
>Nothing. You just want to rest. Though a going to a small tournament would help relax you.

Since you were going to be recuperating in the CR lobby, you settle into studying your equipment. Even in gaming, you had made it a habit to learn all you could about the tools you used that you could take full advantage of its strengths and be able to overcome any weaknesses. You take the first few days trying to find any hidden buttons or switches on your Driver or Gashat. There doesn’t seem to be anything special about your Gashat but your driver seems to have two slots to it. Could you be able to dual wield Gashats? The idea of being able to combine abilities of two different riders excites you but you don’t dismiss the idea of having to give a spare Gashat to someone else. Having a partner to back you up in fights might be more helpful than being twice as strong. Another discovery you find is a small removable panel on your Driver. It seems to be the only thing that can be removed by conventional equipment as the rest of the device doesn’t seem to have anything to allow it to be pulled apart.

Behind the panel just seems to be some kind of computer port to plug the Driver into a computer. You assume it’s probably how the thing was programed. Maybe you could mess with that later but you’re not too sure if you’d be able to get anything done if you had dev access. Setting the actual hardware aside you decide that your best bet of figuring anything out was to read the manual.

As you open the book your eyes immediately fall on the note the man named Emu left you. What would have driven him to recruit you into all this? As far as you now, you never met him. You strain your memory for anything that could link you to him but considering you don’t even know what he looks like you can’t come up with nothing. Sighing, you set the note aside and begin reading the book. There was a lot of technical details that went over your head but it was almost as if the author of the book anticipated that. At the end of every section seemed to be a summary in layman’s terms.
>>
Due to the device’s ability to suppress the effects of bugsters on their hosts as well as weakening Bugsters by maintaining contact with them thus “Leveling them down”, we have decided to keep the Prototype Gashats as an emergency backup should a Bugster prove to be too powerful for the standard Level 1 & 2 Gashats we plan to roll out, though we predict such an event would be unlikely.

“Level 0…” you mutter to yourself as you examine the black Gashat you own. Placing it back down you continue to read the later entries.

Tests with the Prototype Gashat show that while it does indeed start off at a lower power level than our newly developed standard Gashats, it possesses the ability to grow in power or “Level Up” to an indeterminate extent. Far beyond the capacity of a standard Gashat, the prototype’s power comes at the cost of extreme instability thus causing the user to draw in more of the bugster virus than safely intended and increasing the risk of damaging the user’s body. Any attempts to stabilize this property causes the prototype to lose its capacity to suppress the bugster virus in others as we hope to use it for. For that reason, the prototype must only be used sparingly and only under extreme circumstances. Standard Devices are recommended for all bugster removal procedures from now on.

After months of testing, we managed to include all regular functions from standard devices onto the prototype without any degradation of the prototypes unique abilities. Prototype will be able to summon the standard version’s weaponry and use the “Stage Select” feature in order to be able to finish combat quickly should the need ever arise to use it. As a note, it is strongly recommended that standard versions be used over the prototype in all but extreme cases.

Your head swirls as you put the manual down. Could you gear be hurting you more than helping you? The book seems to imply that it has the ability to make bugsters weaker around your presence. It sure as hell didn’t feel that way when you were fighting. It might be broken. You pick up the Gashat and weigh it in your hand. It didn’t really look special. Despite it’s monochrom cover art, it looked just like the Chronicles one you had in your bag. The thought Chronicle Gashats were even weaker than a Level-0 one kind of upset you. It was obvious that humans were being used as some kind of prey. Tricking them into thinking they were in a game with the false hope that they had a fighting chance of winning. It had to stop.
>>
You sigh and slump into your seat. At the very least, you knew your transformation came with a weapon on top of being able to summon power ups. You decide that maybe you had enough of Gashats for a bit and decide to get on fulfilling your little promise of calling your parents. It was had been how long? A month? 2 months since you spoken to them? You grab your phone and begin dialing.

“Hello?” you hear your mother calling. “Reiko is that you? It’s been ages! How have you been?”

“Uhh..H-hey mom. I’ve been alright.” You joke weakly as your mind goes blank. You didn’t know what you were going to tell them! That you were out fighting monsters and nearly dying? That’ll go over well.

“Oh don’t be like that honey. What have you been up to? I wanna hear all about it. Unless…” You can almost feel the sly grin from the otherside of the phone. “You found yourself a boyfriend, haven’t you? And you don’t want me to know~!”

You feel your hand colliding with your forehead. Figures your mother would try to make it awkward for you.

>Well shit anons. Girl gamer needs to make small talk. Last time you tried that...actually, last time you tried that you were in the middle of fighting a giant shark monster. Huh…

Yeah we don't actually have a crush on him, but if we base our description off of him and give her the bare minimum to go on (hot, pretty serious, dad's pretty cool, surgeon salary wink wink nudge nudge) then mom can 10000% fill in the blanks herself and that's her satisfied, distracted and most importantly off our back

Lying and saying we have one will just get her to interrogate her on what ''''he's'''' like forcing us to make up more lies on the spot, and trying to play everything off as nothing won't fly since Reiko rarely calls home anyway - something has to be up.

You huff, trying to figure out what to tell your mom. “Mom I don’t have a boyfriend.” You insist. “I haven’t even had time to go out on a date. I’ve been to busy with stuff.” You can almost hear the pout in your mother’s voice. “Oh come now. You can’t tell me in all your Pokemon game clubs, you haven’t seen a cute boy there.” You snort resisting the urge to correct her video game terminology for the umpteenth time. Video game tournaments and conventions didn’t really attract the nicest looking people. While there was a handful of people who were fit, mostly because gaming as a career tends to leave a lot of free time to work out...or just play more video games, you hadn’t really paid much attention to that stuff.

You’re about to respond with a no when your mind slowly drifts to...Hiiro. You two didn’t interact much after your initial conversation about the Bugsters. He’d come down the elevator every so often and change your bandages and check on the various scrapes and cuts along your arms. After that he’d ask what you wanted to eat and would always point out that you didn’t have to stay in CR. You want to say that you didn’t know why you stuck around but you knew. It was partly because you wanted to hang out where the other Riders used to meet and work together. It was kind of like being able to hang out in the Justice League’s Hall of Justice. Proof that superheroes existed and you were part of them. At least according to you.

But really, you had realized, was because you wanted to see Hiiro again. You figured that had you decided to just rest in the public hospital area, that you’d just get a regular doctor to attend you. After all, your injuries weren’t bad enough to require, at least according to Hiiro, the world’s greatest surgeon. After your initial confrontation, Hiiro seemed to have calmed down significantly. Sure, he was still quiet and reserved but he was kind of cool like that. Whenever he changed your bandages, he would cut them so quickly and gracefully like if the material wasn’t there. You once tried to make small talk and asked how long it took him to learn how to do that. He merely replied with,

”There’s nothing that I can’t cut.”

Fuck, that was cool. Then there was the way he would read your chart. He had insisted that you had a physical and update your shots after he heard that you had neglected to go to the doctor for a few years. The way he read it was smooth and professional. Then there was also his eyes. They were calculating and resolute but you think you could see them trying to hide something else. And everything he did had a purpose and the way he carried himsel- you clap your hand to your mouth and feel your face burning.
>>
Holy shit. You had a thing for Hiiro. You try to feel angry at yourself. You weren’t some dipsy school girl who would just bend over for any guy. But Hiiro wasn’t just some guy. Hes the best surgeon in the world, he was a Kamen Rider and probably would have if it wasn’t for the fucking government.

“Sweetie? Reiko, honey are you still there?” You can hear your mother calling to you as you snap back to reality. “O-oh uhh, yeah I’m still here mom.” You reply trying your hardest not to sound awkward. “Oooh you’re thinking about him! Come on! Tell me!” She teases laughing. You feel your face continue to burn more and you grumble. Any more of this and you’d wind up being a tsundere. You’re not sure which one was worse. “Y-yeah. I was.” You say finally admitting defeat. “I met this guy, he’s a surgeon.”

You have to hold your phone an arm’s length away as you hear your mother scream in glee. “My girl is dating a surgeon!” She shouts. “We’re not dating mom! I just know him...and sometimes we talk about stuff.” You say weakly as you describe Hiiro in more detail than you realized you knew. “And he’s got these eyes. They like super serious but also like everything is trivial to him. Except I think he’s trying to hide his real feelings.” You admit as you chew your lower lip.

You description incites another squeal of glee. “You have to introduce him to me!” She demands happily. You gulp. You can only imagine the catastrophe that would cause. “I don’t know...I already told you he’s busy and we’re not really dat-”

Your mother interrupts you. “That reminds me sweetie! Your dad has a week off next week! So we decided...we’re going to visit you for halloween! It’s going to be so much fun! You can show us around the city!” You nearly drop your phone and you feel the blood drain from your face. Nononononono. She can’t! Not right now!

As if the fates weren’t having enough fun with your situation, you hear the ding of CR’s elevator and footsteps coming towards you.

Fuckfuckfuck!

“You can’t come over! I’m uhh...gonna be very busy!” You say panicking. “I have a game tournament.” You say looking over your shoulder. Hiiro can’t hear this! You’re mother, however, was having none of that. “Reiko…” She starts as you visibly flinch. Despite your brushes with death, no bugster comes close to the ingrained fear of one’s mother. “Don’t you dare try to lie to me young lady. I raised you better than that! When we let you move out to pursue your career, we did it because we trusted you. Don’t you make us regret that and come get you.” Your shoulders slump. “Yes mother.” You say numbly. “What time are you guys arriving?” You ask.

Your mother’s tone lightens a bit. “We’ll be arriving next wednesday in the afternoon. Your father wants to finish painting the house before we head out. But we’ll stay with you the rest of the week.” Out of the corner of your eye, you can see Hiiro walking up the steps with a medical chart in one hand and a plastic bag in the other.

“S-so I’ll see you then!” You stammer. “I gotta go! Bye!” You say hanging up and putting the phone and your head down on the table. Hiiro gives you an odd look but doesn’t say anything anything about it other than, “I’ve told you, stressing will only help to aggravate your Game Syndrome.” He sets aside the chart and pulls out two take out boxes from the bag setting them in front of both of you. You can’t help but blush. Hiiro was eating with you. “You know you don’t have to get me food.” You say lamely as you open up the bento box. Hiiro gives you a glance.

“I do. I’m the only one with experience concerning combating the bugster virus and with knowledge of CR’s existence. So thus, only I can be your doctor. And as your doctor, I have to make sure you’re on the proper dietary regimen. Poor choices will only weaken your already compromised health.” He says plainly. “What about your dad?” You ask. “He is the director of this hospital. His duties often take him to meetings elsewhere and so he cannot watch you all the time.” Hiiro answers.
>>
>>3900454

You nod and quietly go to picking at your food. Your recent revelation about your feelings and your mother’s announcement makes you feel very awkward. You shoot a quick glance at Hiiro. He was quietly eating his food with one hand while reading his papers in the other hand. You catch yourself watching him longer than you’d like to admit. Not wanting to eat awkwardly in silence you try to start up a conversation.

>What does Reiko want to talk about with Hiiro?
>Ask Hiiro why he’s eating here. He’s bought food for you before but he’s never actually eaten with you. Maybe he likes you~ :3
>Tell Hiiro that your mom and dad coming over. Maybe he has any ideas on how to keep her safe while in the city. You’ll probably leave the bits about your crush and your mom’s idea that he’s your boyfriend out though.

Alright. Asking Hiiro for advice. Writing and then off to be with me. Enjoy your halloween guys.
>>
“Sooo...that was my mom on the phone.” You say eating slowly and watching Hiiro’s reaction. Hiiro takes a bite of his food and glances at you. “I see.” Is his response. You eat in silence for a bit. “I need your help.” You finally say. “My mom and dad are coming over. And you know…” Hiiro sets down his papers and looks at you. “I’m guessing you already told them not to come?” He asks.

You nod glumly. “I tried telling them that I was gonna be busy. They didn’t buy it.” You say embarrassed, rubbing your ear. Hiiro nods in agreement. “Not surprising.” He admits causing you to look at him in confusion. “You tend to wear your heart on your sleeve. You don’t seem to be the kind of person to lie.” He explains reaching for his drink. “Not like the coroner…” You barely catch him mutter. “In anycase, you’ll have to figure out how you’re going to keep your identity safe. You’ve managed to transform in fairly private areas so no one should have an idea who you are behind the mask. However, if the enemy figures out who you are, they’ll target your parents as long as they’re in the city.” Hiiro sets his drink down. “It’d be foolish, however, to wander around the city without your driver.” He looks at you as he laces his fingers together. “You’ve really backed yourself into a corner, Pro Gamer.”
>>
>>3900518
“So then what do I do?” you ask frustrated. Hiiro sips his drink. “Try to spend most of your time at your house. They’re your parents so they shouldn’t mind. If you must leave the house then be sure to take your driver.” You sigh. That wasn’t much help. It’s what you probably would’ve done to begin with. You think for a bit and it dawns on you. Hiiro can transform! He could use your gear and keep an eye out as you spend your day with your parents. Kind of creepy though, having him follow you everywhere but at the same time...you kind of liked the idea of him watching over you.

Ugh! If only we had at least another...Gashat...

You slowly realize as you think to yourself. You have the Chronicle’s game in your bag! It was definitely weaker than your current setup but two riders is certainly better than one. If Hiiro couldn’t make it in time, then you could definitely buy enough by transforming using the Chronicle game.

You ponder a bit more before deciding what to do.

>So do you propose your idea?
>Just take Hiiro’s advice. Be armed at all times and try not to leave the house too much. Not sure how your mom and dad will take it though. They kinda wanted to sight see with you.
>Suggest your plan to Hiiro. He’ll take the driver and keep an eye out while you spend time with your family. It’d only be for the time you spent outside the house. Maybe you can slowly start convincing him that starting CR back up is not such a bad plan. (You’ll have to roll to convince him however.)
>Suggest your plan to Hiiro, however you keep your gear on and Hiiro can take the Chronicle gashat. (You’ll have to roll for this one as well, however this will be harder to do as Hiiro is fully aware of how the Chronicle Gashat works. The base premise is the same as the above)

Guh, operation Guardian Angel Hiiro is a go. Guess Reiko really wants her doctor looking after her. Writing after breakfast.

You fidget for a bit before speaking up. “What if...what if you look after us?” You ask, placing the Driver and Gashat in front of Hiiro. “You took the compatibility surgery didn’t you?” Hiiro gives you a look and goes back to his food and papers. “No.” He says simply reading. “What?! Why not?” You ask. “I do not get involved with the personal lives of my patients. It prevents...complications.” He says though you think even he doesn’t fully believe that.

“Please!” you beg standing up and bowing deeply. “Please…They’re my parents. They’re the only people I have. After I lost my friends, I couldn’t leave my house for days. If I lost my mom and dad…” Your voice trails off as you try not to let your emotions get to you. You really don’t want to think about life after losing the two most important people in it. “You don’t even have to be with us all week. Just follow us when we head out.” You explain. “A-and I won’t be fully defenseless!” You continue grabbing your bag and pulling out the Chronicle Gashat. “I still have this. If things go really bad, I can use it to buy us some time!”

Hiiro stands up. ‘Pro Gamer…” He says moving towards you. “You already know what happens when you use that. Without the Gamer Driver, your body won’t have a regulation method when your body takes in the virus to transform.” You nod. “But you already said I have Game Syndrome. So it’s not like I can get any worse.” Hiiro shakes his head.. “It could aggravate your illness.” He says quietly. “But knowing you that wouldn’t stop you.” He sighs and sits back down. Hiiro slowly takes the Driver and Gashat, and holding them, studying them.

“Besides...you said you’re the best doctor in the world. Isn’t it your job to take care of your patients? Shouldn’t be too hard right? It’s just a simple patient visit.” You say smiling weakly. “And if a bugster shows up, you’ll just cut them out.” Hiiro rolls his eyes. “You really do wear your heart on your sleeve…” He mutters.

“So you’ll do it?!” You ask hopefully.

“I’m the best doctor in the world. There’s nothing in this world I can’t cut.” Hiiro replies stubbornly while avoiding your gaze. You grin. “Thanks!” You say throwing your arms around him in a hug. Hiiro stands there awkwardly before gingerly raising his hand over your head and ultimately deciding to pat your shoulder. “I need to get back to work. Not stay here playing with you.” He coughs, gently pushing you away and avoiding your eyes. “You are not my only patient.” He adds regaining his composure. Picking up your Driver and Gashat, he grabs his papers and says, “Get some rest. I can’t have you overworking your body. Last I need is you turning into a Bugster.”

As he leaves, you continue grinning broadly. You can’t help but skip as you go about your day. You could have sworn that you think you saw Hiiro blush as you hugged him.

The following week

You fidget nervously, you haven’t seen your parents in forever! Smoothing out your skirt for the hundredth time, you wander around the house making sure everything was cleaned up and organized. Like all your other inspections, you can’t find anything out of place. You give up and head back to the living room. You flop onto your sofa and pull out your phone. Since you were discharged from the hospital, you found yourself going through your phone more often. You weren’t always on your phone. Mostly because you had your PC to play on but you did have a few of those gacha games you poked around while commuting around on the train. Now you just found yourself staring at your contacts list.

Because you had gotten Hiiro’s personal number

Getting it wasn’t difficult, and it was not like you had an ulterior motive either. It was part of the plan. How else were you supposed to keep him up to date or contact him in an emergency?

“Do not call me unless there is an emergency or you are heading out. Nothing else.If you do then you’ll be on your own.” Hiiro had said glaring at you. Of course, you knew he didn’t really mean it. He tended to put up a front when he stopped using contractions. So you didn’t. You just...looked at it. It felt comforting. Like having a safety net.

Your thoughts are interrupted as you hear someone ring your doorbell. You hesitate for a bit before going to open the door. “Open up! Or I’ll knock your door down Reiko!” You hear your dad joke Grinning you throw the door open. “If you do, I’ll be sure to send you the bill dad.” You respond before you feel your mother throw herself on you. “Reeiiiiiikooo!” She cries. “You never call enough!” She complains as you feel ribs being crushed. Maybe this is why you’re as resilient as you are today.

“Airi, you’re strangling the poor girl. She hasn’t even let us in.” Your father chides your mother gently. Your mother let’s you go momentarily to smoosh your father’s face with a free hand. “Nonsense! My baby girl has been alone all this time! She needs some affection.” She says before grinning devilishly at you. “Unless...that boyfriend of yours has been keeping your company…” She says conspiratorially. You roll your eyes and try not to blush too hard.
>>
>>3900844
“No mom...I don’t have a boyfriend.” You repeat as you let your parents in. Your mother nods sagely. “I’ll say! Look at this place. It’s much too clean. You need a man’s touch around here.” She says poking around your kitchen and living room. “I clean!” You protest. “Dad! Tell her!” You plead. Your father raises his hands in protest. “Oh no. When it comes to your mother and romance, I’m afraid I’m powerless.” He chuckles before leaning in to whisper, “Ever since your last chat with her, she’d been watching tons of medical dramas. You know anything about that?” You shake your head denying anything fervently.

“Even her bathroom is spotless!” Your mother announces as she comes down the stairs. “Mooom!” You protest embarrassed. “It’s been a while since it’s been this lively.” Your father muses. Your mother finally sits down. “So Reiko! Where are you taking us first?” Your mother says as you recognize her grin as your own. You maintain a straight face, they wanted to explore already? You were hoping they’d at least spend a bit settling down.

>What do you do?
>Ask if you can stay home for today. You had planned to keep them off the streets for as long as possible...and now that you think of it. You kind of want to catch up with them. Maybe eat some of mom’s cooking.
>Take them somewhere close. You don’t have to stray too far from home and it technically is taking them out somewhere.
>Go all out today. If you take them to see as much of the city as you can. You’ll get it over with and maybe your parents will be tired out enough that they’ll want to settle at your place for the rest of the week. Though knowing your mom, she might just want to see more after that. (This will require a roll to see how well the day goes...at least in terms of how well your parents enjoy your tour.)

“Actually…” You says tugging at your ear bashfully. “I was kind of hoping we could stay home today? Maybe you could make something to eat mom? Like when I was still living at home?” Your mother opens her mouth speak before just giving you a warm smile. “Oh Reiko. Of course sweetie. Just like old times.” She says happily. “Mom I’m not that old.” You laugh. “And yet your acting like we haven’t seen each other in decades.” She counters standing up. “Alright let’s see what I can whip up. I hope you haven’t been living off those awful cup noodles.” She says opening your pantry. You don’t meet her eyes. Technically you did during your first few weeks when money was a bit tight but she didn’t need to hear that.

“Reiko...premade curry sauce?” Your mother teases you. “It doesn’t go bad! And I don’t have to keep making it every time I want curry.” You protest. Your mother begins to rummage around your kitchen pulling out odds and ends. “At least you have the ingredients to make it. I’m guessing it didn’t go well?” You nod shamefully. You hadn’t inherited your mother’s talent for cooking, instead your father liked to joke that you had inherited his habit for enjoying good food and quiet places. “Honestly Reiko, you have so much premade food here that I’d swear you were going to open a convenience store.” Your mother chastises you as she pulls out a surprising amount of raw ingredients. “Well, at least we have enough for a meal.”

She gives you a sly grin. “But now you owe me dinner tomorrow and I expect a nice restaurant.” You groan. “I just hang out in takeout places.” You say. “You have a fancy computer. I know you know how to look something up.” You mom jokes. You sit down next to your dad and he pulls you into a hug. “So how has the games been going?” He asks patting your head. “Good.” You say unsure how to word it. Your parents weren’t too into video games. They could play a mean tetris but other than knowing how to tessellate shapes they were unaware of how the competitive scene worked. “I mean, there were a few tough matches but nothing you couldn’t handle.”

“That’s my girl. The boys treating you well? Your mom saw this documentary once and she’s been telling me how all she saw were boys.” He chuckles. “Please dad. The boys fear me.” You smirk. “They don’t dare talk trash unless they’re willing to get their shit kicked in.”

“Reiko! Language!” You mother shouts from across the kitchen. “Oh crap- I mean sorry mom!” You shout back. “My house my rules.” You whisper to your dad winking. He snorts and shakes his head.
>>
“You seem to be doing well. By the time I was your age, I was still struggling to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. You ever think about going back to school?” He asks. You grimace. “Not really. I’ve been kind of caught up with...erm work.” You say awkwardly. Work didn’t really seem to be the right word for your career choice. The stigma behind it still clung on you. “Well...I think you should consider maybe having night classes or something and get a degree. You graduated with some of the best grades in your class.” He says gently. You can hear the slight concern in his voice.

“Reiko! You can ask your boyfriend if he can get you into med school!” You hear your mother shout. You bury your face in your dad’s sweater. “Moom! Staahp!” You shout back.

You spend the rest of your day, catching up with your family during dinner. Your mother had somehow managed to use what little scraps you had to make a nice curry and rice complete with breaded pork. You spoke about the most mundane of things. Your father had gotten a promotion at work and has used the extra spending money to buy a new TV and Blu Ray set on his first paycheck. Your mother had learned a new way to prepare BBQ ribs. Despite this, the conversation managed to help you forget about recent events. For a small moment you felt like everything was ok. That you were just a regular girl. You had forgotten how much you missed this. Having someone to talk to at home. Having your mother worry over this and that. Having your dad try and help with repairs around the house and with financial advice. It felt...nice. Part of you wished you could just forget about all of this and go back home with them.

As you lay in bed that night, you examined your Gashat. Your mother had insisted that tomorrow you’d take a trip to the center of the city and explore some of the stores. It was going to be busy due to it being the day before Halloween. You wonder if you should try and keep them home again.

>What does Reiko plan to do tomorrow?
>Try and keep them home again. The less you go out the better.
>Take them out around the city. Being the day before Halloween, the amount of people who would be shopping around would probably be good cover. If you decide to go out on Halloween, the multitude of costumes might make things harder to discern bugster and civilian.
>Ask if you can go out during halloween. Maybe nothing would go wrong? It’d be nice if you could just have fun with your parents for a bit.

We keep them cooped up too long and they'll start to figure out something is up. Buy some Halloween decorations and supplies while we're out and we can keep them indoors most of Halloween preparing for and then hosting trick-o-treaters.

Also schedule in plenty of cake pit stops to sample the Halloween goodies at the bakeries for the benefit of our poor fourth wheel Hiiro.

You are…Hiiro Kagami?
This was the worst idea I’ve ever been a part of. You think to yourself as you deftly cut into a small pumpkin pie shaped like a bat and taking a bite. You are sitting outside a small dessert cafe as you watch Reiko and her parents go window shopping. You had been following her for the past few hours keeping and eye out. Luckily, the family would often stop at a bakery or cafe to enjoy a treat before moving to a nearby shop to take a look.

I feel like some kind of pervert. You think moodily as you look around. Almost as in response you remember something Emu would always tell you.

”It’s a doctor’s job to retrieve his patient’s smile!”

You can feel yourself grumble a bit. He must’ve been rubbing off on you. When you saw Reiko pleading for your help, you couldn’t help but agreeing to help her. Something about how genuine she was with her emotions, how she left herself vulnerable like that reminded you of your ex-girlfriend, Saki. You stare at your pie frowning. You used to hate sweets. But ever since you lost Saki to the bugster virus, you couldn’t help but having them every so often. You look at Reiko again. Could it be that she was choosing these stops for your sake?

Reiko was also open about her opinions and was willing to call you out when she thought you were out of line. Just like the intern. You hadn’t decided if you liked that combination in a person. What you could say was that you didn’t expect her to hug you when you agreed to her plan. You weren’t sure how to react to that but your immediate through was to pet her head which you didn’t do.
>>
>>3901114
This is why I don’t get into patient’s personal lives. You think to yourself. “Reiko! Look! We have to get these cute little bat decorations for your house!” You can hear Reiko’s mother shout. She was energetic to say the least. Every so often, she’d shout with glee or chatter happily with a shopkeeper. You realized that’s probably where Reiko got her openness with her emotions. Her father, you noticed, was much more reserved. He seemed to simply enjoy being with his family and their antics. How would he react if he knew that his daughter had decided to risk her life to fight an enemy that threatened humanity? Would it be worry as you expected the mother to react or would it be pride like your father felt for you?

Turning your attention back to the family you notice Reiko studying a Mighty Action X decoration a bit distracted. She would look left and right every so often keeping an eye out for what you presumed to be Bugsters. Eventually, her eyes meet yours and she gives you a small but happy smile. You feel your stomach jolt a bit when she does so. You didn’t expect her to find you following her but it would be foolish to assume she didn’t know you were close by as it was her plan. Unsure of how to react, you return her smile with a small polite nod and quickly turn your attention elsewhere. Can’t have people notice that I’m following them. You think to yourself, your mind slightly jumbled.

Meanwhile...

“Reiko? Honey?” Your mom says snapping you back to attention. “Huh?” You ask looking at your mother. She was wearing a witch’s hat you had bought her a few stops earlier. You had been keeping an eye out for bugsters or at least trouble. Partly, you realize, you had also been keeping an eye out for Hiiro. You had sent him a message letting him know where your first stop was going to be so he could catch up to you. All you had gotten in response was an “Understood”. But you had finally seen him across the street and you hoped he enjoyed all the dessert stops you made so he’d have something to enjoy on his stake out. “Honey, are you ok? You seem a bit distracted. Your cheeks are flushed. I think you might be coming down with something.” Your mother continues. “Should we head home?”

You shake your head no. “I’m fine.” You insist. Truthfully, you were enjoying this day out more than you had thought you would. Last night you were worried you’d be so distracted with worry that your family would catch on but you were having a great time and even forgot about the bugster from time to time. “Besides we still haven’t decided what we’re getting for dinner. You said we were getting take out.” You grin cheekily. Your mother smirks. “I didn’t say take out. I said we’d get something nice to eat as a family.”

“Take out can be nice!” You reply. “I even left my computer downloading some horror movies that we can watch while we eat.To get into the spirit of Halloween!” A pile of bags and boxes wanders up to you. “I’m not sure that's a good idea. Your..erm..mother doesn’t do too well with scary movies.” Your father’s voice says emanating from the pile. Your mom rolls her eyes. “Right, I don’t do too well. You father is soo considerate.” She says sarcastically not helping your father’s pride. You giggle, “Well I’m going to get these.” You say grabbing a few Mighty Action X decorations. Mostly for your room but they could also work on the house.

“Well then Reiko, you’re the tour guide. What are we getting for take out? Or is there somewhere else we’re gonna visit?” Your mother asks as she pays for the items.

>What are we getting for spooky meal time anons?
>Pizza. It was kind of a rarity here in Japan but it was pretty good and the multiple slices means you could just buy one or two and have enough for all three of you.
>Some kind of soup. The days are pretty cold now and the idea of huddling around the small living room table and sharing a large hot meal of soup was really cozy.

At this point I'm at a loss at what to do lol. It's not even that we're rolling nat 1s. Its the fact we can't even roll above an 8 majority of the time. We could try 2d6? Base line of 5 for a success?

Soup it is. We'll just have to move forward with the rolls we got. Writing. If any of you guys have any ideas let me know. Because we've gotten three nat 1s in this thread alone. So our luck is increadibly shit it seems.
>>
>>3901178
Honestly maybe get rid of the crit override? Or maybe use an average of the rolls?
Someone pointed out last thread
>3d20 crits override has a 21% chance of normal rolls not mattering.
and that sounds pretty damn high to me.
Especially since the rolls have been mostly shit on the quest for a while, obeying critfails every time they pop up is gonna drive people off
>>
>>3901206
Yeah, I misread that. I thought that anon meant that on a d20 getting a 1 or 20 was a 21% on a single roll. So that's my bad. I'll get rid of crit override then. Average would be good but we don't have enough people rolling to make it work very well but again, I'm shit at math. At most we get like 2 rolls. I guess I can roll to make that the three total but I don't want it to become a thing where I have to roll just to advance the story, ya know?

In anycase, I'll put the no crits override rule in effect for the previous rolls.
>>
>>3901192
Use d100s
We get 3 nat1s on those then we know were damn cursed.
Or scrap crit override
>>
>>3901221
Might as well do both? Maybe we can truely shake of the curse. What do you guys think?
>>
>>3901227
If no crit override then keep just keep it d20. I don't like them cos they're easier to Nat 1 on is all

“I’m feeling some soup. Sukiyaki maybe? I know this place.” You say as you begin to walk off to the next store. You get this weird feeling on the back of your neck. Like you’re being watched. It wasn’t pleasant like Hiiro’s gaze, you felt a stalked animal. “Hey mom! Dad! Check this shop out.” You say pointing to a nearby pottery shop, and trying to keep your voice steady. “Maybe we can find some nice Halloween mugs? You now, for souvenirs!” Your mom gives the windows a quick look. “Oh yeah! I can pour your dad’s coffee into a severed head or something.” She laughs as your father fails to suppress a small groan.

You lead them into the shop but stay outside and look around. You don’t like this feeling. Maybe Hiiro, might have spotted something but you can’t seem to see him around. Fortunately, you notice something. Among the people you see a man carrying a weird device. It was purple with an A and B buttons and a small screen in the middle. For some reason, it reminded you of your driver but it felt more ominous. You didn’t know what it was but you knew it probably wasn’t good. The man seemed to be looking around for something, his face holding a look of disgust. “Reiko? Aren’t you gonna come in? I found one of those Pokemon you like as a mug!” You hear your mother call to you. You give the man one last glance. He seemed to be doing something on his device!

>What does Reiko do?
>Run into the shop. Whatever is going on, Hiiro can handle it.
>Try and stop the man untransformed. He doesn’t look like a monster so he must be a regular human up to no good.

From Hiiro’s perspective…

“I’m feeling some soup. Sukiyaki maybe? I know this place.” You hear Reiko say. Sighing you stand and set aside your empty plate. It was time to get on the move. You begin to mingle in with the crowds and generally go with their flow as you follow Reiko and her family. You almost miss it. Just out of the corner of your eye you see a small flash of purple. You’ve faced it enough time to know what it was. A Bugvisor! The device used by Dan Kuroto to spread the bugster virus among the population or to collect defeated Bugsters for his work on completing 「Kamen Rider Chronicle 」. In a crowded area like this, if it’s used then it could cause a massive epidemic! You try to make your way towards the man but the crowd’s momentum is pushing you away.

“Let me through!” You grunt trying to push your way through the crowd. You must’ve noticed the man too late because the man is already adjusting the Bugvisor! You continue to try to get through but you’ve notice that you’ve also lost track of Reiko.

>What does Hiiro do?
>Use all of your might to force your way through the crowd. If you can manage to get to him without transforming you might be able to stop the man without causing a scene!
>Transform and charge in! You’ll be able to get to the man much faster but people might panic and alert the man.
>Shout that the man is planning something. You’ll definitely cause a panic but the amount of people trying to get away or stop him will probably buy you enough time to get there. Reiko will also probably hear you and get to safety.

All Choices require a roll.

“Mom! Dad! Get in the shop!” You hear Reiko shout. Your eyes dart to the location of the voice and you see her messenger bag dart into a nearby shop. The man’s head also snaps to her location and yet you still can’t get close enough to help her. You struggle against the crowd so you decide to use it to your advantage.

“That man has a weapon! Somebody stop him! He’s trying to hurt a girl!” You shout in as an authoritarian voice as you can muster which isn’t that hard for you considering you have to order people around during a surgery. The effect is almost instant. People began to scream and run about in utter chaos. A few people managed to run at the man with the Bugvisor and tackle him to the ground. The Visor flies out of his hand and clatters to the ground. The man struggles and growls unnaturally as his body contorts before he begins to shapeshift into a Bugster! The monster flings the people off of him and stands up drawing his katanas. You vaguely remember that this monster was based off a Samurai quick draw game.

“You dare attack me without allowing me my blades! Come and face me, Kaiden, with honor, cur!” He roars brandishing his weapons and summoning samurai themed minions.

>What does Hiiro do?
>Go after the BugVisor! If anyone gets their hands on it, they might accidentally release the virus inside it.

You bolt from where you are and rush straight for the BugVisor shoving people out of the way before anyone gets the idea to pick up the item the monster dropped. I will have my revenge!” You’re only 10 feet away from the Visor when you see Kaiden swing his blades with unnatural speed. You throw yourself to the ground in an attempt to dodge the monster’s blades. The blades miss you or body but manage to tear up your jacket slicing it to pieces!

You manage to land atop the Visor and roll out of the way with the devices safely in hand. If feels heavy and cold. Almost as if there was no body heat from the previous owner. You don’t have much time to dwell on that as Kaiden takes a stance and begins to slowly make your way towards you. “Hurry and transform Brave! There is no honor in fighting you unarmed but if that is the way you wish to fall then so be it!

Hiiro is about to clear some trash mobs! writing.
>>
>>3901607
You slowly get to your feet as you draw Reiko’s Driver and Gashat out. You give no response to Kaiden’s taunts. You have no time for idle banter, you have a surgery to perform. You go through the familiar motions of transforming, raising your Gashat up and clicking the button.

”Skill Level-0.”

Mighty Action X!

”Henshin.”

You push the Gashat into its slot and fling the lever to the side, remembering the feeling of strength surging through you once more, remembering your duty to the people, and of that night during Zero Day. Her last words still ring clear in your mind.

Please... Become the best doctor in the world…

”GASHATTO!”

Muscle memory has you smash your palm into the Ex-Aid portrait as the ring surrounds you and as you emerge from the light, clad in black, you merely say.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unhp2NWRtX8

”Commencing bugster removal operation.”

As if in response the samurai themed minions rush towards you but you stand your ground. Panicking in surgery gets the patient killed. You think to yourself as you backhand a minion into another. Each cut must be precise, every cut steady. You continue ducking under a fist and countering with a swift jab to the minions side. You grab another minion by the arm and judo throw him over your shoulder and into another one of its allies. As more and more minions rush you, the intensity of every strike you make escalates, you begin to use all your limbs in the fight. An elbow to one’s face, a rising knee to another. You make sure that not a single action is spent unnecessarily.
Kaiden raises his blade to the air. “Level 0? You must be desperate Brave if you wish to take on a level 5 such as myself in battle! In that state, you’ll never compare!” He clangs his swords together and begins to rush towards you!

>Kamen Rider Brave (Ex-Aid Gashat) vs Kaiden the Swordsman!

Hiiro has his own traits too!
>Nothing I cannot cut!
>Hiiro is a master swordsman, while wielding any bladed weapon he gets a +2 to all rolls involving attack and defense so long as the sword can be used to assist. This stacks with power ups. Unarmed and ranged attacks obviously don’t get this bonus.

You also have two weapons on you!
>The Ex-Aid suit has access to the Gashacon Breaker. A mallet weapon that has the ability to swap to a secondary mode. Blade mode!

>The BugVisor you picked up has two weapon functions. Attaching it to the wrist allows you to shoot bolts of energy with its Beam Gun Mode. Twisting it around gives you access to miniature energy chainsaw you can attack with while it’s in Chainsaw Mode.

>So, what does Hiiro do!
>Ignore Kaiden and fight the minions. His attention on you means he won’t hurt civilians but you should finish up the task at hand before you move onto the bigger problem.
>Fight Kaiden. Taking him down is the main priority. If some of the minions get away Reiko can handle them should it be a problem.
>Attempt to swap stages. The Gamer Driver has the ability to temporarily move the fight somewhere else but the bugster will attempt to resist. (You’ll have to roll to change stage is what I mean. You only get to try this once otherwise it’d probably be spammed to hell and back.)
>Write in

Rolls for any of these choices. If you’re attacking be sure to vote for what weapon you’ll be using if any at all. If none of the votes can agree with a weapon I’ll choose the one that benefits the Character the most.
With all this info dump, I got a tabletop game to head to. Will post when I get back if votes are in.

The answer is clear, after the battle we must console Hiro and attempt to nurse him back to health. And by nurse him back to health I mean fuck him. Or have him doctor us and have that get physical. Tantric sex rituals are the only way to get rid of the bad juju.

You raise your leg to block a kick and shove away one of the minions. Raising your hand you summon your Gashat’s weapon.

Gashacon Breaker! Ja Kīn!

Your driver announces as you summon the mallet and swap it to it’s bladed form. You change stances and parry Kaiden’s blades as he closes the gap and swings at you. No surgery is perfect. Complications will arise. You think as you duck under another blade and swing yours at the minions, cleaving three in one go, causing them to vanish. Kaiden goes for a thrust and you twist out of the way. A surgeon must always be ready for these and deal with them appropriately. You deflect another swing from the boss causing him to hit his own minions! “Coward! Face me like a true warrior! Do not dishonor our fight!” He shouts as you dodge another blow, spinning around and out of Kaiden’s vision. The minions attempt to run after some people but cut them down as they try to leave your reach!

You jump over him and finish off the last of his minions with a falling slash! Turning to Kaiden you say, “You are a bugster who threatens the lives of unarmed people. To your honor, I say ‘No thank you’.”

>How does Hiiro deal with the boss?
>Engage Kaiden on a one on one duel! There is nothing you cannot cut!
>Swap out weapons. Kaiden is a melee based Bugster. Although you loathe to use the weapons of the enemy, a ranged fight might be more in your favor.

Your blades crash as you two collide in a flurry of blows. You two swing at each other with deadly precision, as the wind sings with the sound of your swords cutting through the air. Kaiden’s blades are a blur forcing you to focus one on at a time. You duck, parry, and do your best to evade each sword. The people around you have backed off in a large circle pressing their bodies to the buildings, frozen in fear as they attempt to keep track of the two blurs fighting it out in the shopping area.

Kaiden swings one blade high, then the other low forcing you to parry one and getting hit by the other in a shower of sparks. Fighting through it, you slash at the monster landing a clean hit on him and following through with a kick to create some space between you two.

/////IIIII|||||

/////IIIII||

You rush again to commence the fight and your blades collide and you try to take a step forward to limit Kaiden’s reach and mobility. “You’re weak Brave! As a level-0 you cannot compete with me!”
He taunts but you ignore him. “Once I’m finished with you I will be able to be complete and I will hunt down the girl. Then the Riders will be no more.”

Kaiden really shouldn't have although I'm debating to see if that sparks rigteous fury out of Hiiro because it's Reiko that's threatened for becuase he's threatening someone he promised to take care of.

Bascially romance reason or not romance reason.
>>
>>3902946
When in doubt always romance.

Honestly Hiiro actually does have the emotional range of an actual banana slug (TAIGA was better than him at emotion by the end of the series come on), so I can see him freaking out mainly because it's Reiko, but justifying it to himself as because his patient that he's caring for got threatened. We meme about crushes but I honestly don't see him recognising any feelings he may develop until at least the taddle legacy arc (and that realisation is only forced because he's suddenly torn between Saiki and Reiko thanks to Cronus's bullshit)

You force yourself not to glance over to where you had seen Reiko run into incase Kaiden was unaware of her location. With a shout you bring your knee into Kaiden’s abdomen causing him to bend over and leave himself open. You bury your sword into his shoulder and drag it down his body.
“Auughhh!” Kaiden screams as a shower of sparks explode from him and he staggers back, crashing into a nearby table and smashing it. He struggles to get up as you approach and throws the broken bits of the table at you as he rolls to safety and onto his feet. You deftly slice them away as you turn to the swordsman.

Kaiden charges at you with both both blades as he powers them up with energy causing them to glow and blur making them hard to keep track of. Much to his surprise, you parry his attacks and you smash through his assault with an overhead swing. Kaiden screams in pain as your attack cuts him down the middle again. One of his swords falls to the ground, it’s blade shattered. “Impossible! You are a level 0!” He shouts at you, words full of venom. “Very well Brave. You force me to use my ultimate stance!” He raises his lone sword with both hands, a mirror to your own two handed style.

”That girl is my patient. I will not allow to harm her!” You shout as you both charge and clash again, trading blows in a deadly dance. Your parries are immediately met with a followup from your opponent forcing you to duck and swing, forcing you to swing low and be parried. Kaiden swings to high and you duck causing him to slice into a light post and cutting it down. His attacks are growing too wild. He’s getting desperate. You think as you cleave into the monster, taking advantage of his opening.

Your hyper focused, everything seems to move in slow motion as you swing your arms again and again each time slicing deep into the monster. First you go for his arm, rendering it useless. Then his leg slowing him down even more. As Kaiden tries to adjust to defend his limbs you aim for his chest and cutting a deep X into it.

The monster is launched back with your final strike and you slot the Gashat into your weapon.

"Gashun!"”Gashatto!””Finisher!

“I am her doctor!” You shout as your sword begins to glow and hum with energy. You begin to mash at the B button on it knowing that should you hit, your blade will strike him for every button press. Kaiden sheaths his sword and gets ready to draw it in an iaijutsu strike. “The final blow.” He pants. “I’ll make sure it will be your last!”

You roar and dash towards your foe swinging with all your might as you get with in reach. Kaiden draws his blade and swings at you as you draw near. His blade seems to blink out of existence as he swings it.

Mighty Critical Finish!

Time seems to hang as you feel your blade meet the monster and run past. You were certain that you had struck but you were trying to figure out if he had struck you. You hear the sound of metal falling to the ground followed by dozens of Hit! sounds. Kadien tries to turn to face you, his sword broken before he is engulfed in energy and explodes.

”And there is nothing I cannot cut.”

Game Clear!

A few moments ago…

Mighty Critical Finish!

You had been watching the fight from inside the store, your eyes glued on Hiiro’s form. Occasionally they would become blurs as they sped up. The way he fought had you enraptured. He didn’t even take any hits like you did! The way he ducked and dodged without moving from his spot when fighting the minions was amazing. “Reiko please!” Your mother begs as she tugs at your shoulder. “The monster might see you!” You begrudgingly duck back behind the shelf as Hiiro’s words still rung in your ears.

”That girl is my patient. I will not allow to harm her!”

You feel your face grow red as you try and hide it. Hiiro meant you! He was talking about you right?! You were positive about it as you faintly register the fight end with an explosion. “Come on sweetie! I think the monster is busy with that other man! We can probably sneak out of here!” Your mother begs. “Huh?...oh yeah…” You reply absentmindedly. What you really wanted to do was go and hug Hiiro. He had done it! He saved you and your parents. “Love! Love! I think Reiko is in shock!” Your mother says worried to your father .You shake your head. “No I’m fine mom!” You assure her. “We can go home now.”

“Home?! How do you know? That monster might come back!” You mom demands. You mentally facepalm. You’d have to explain it somehow.

>How do you respond.
>Tell your mom that Kamen Riders protect the city and one just did so.
>Half lie. Tell her it was all part of a new game Chronicle. Where players fight pretend monsters for entertainment. Hopefully the damage didn’t look too bad outside.

“Mom, it’s ok! The city is protected by Kamen Riders. They’re defenders of justice and they fight for all of humanity. That’s Ex-Aid, he’s based on the video game Mighty Action X.” You say pointing to the decorations your bought. “The city is pretty normal besides that.” You admit shrugging. You’re mother, however isn’t having any of that. “What?!” She asks exasperated. “We’re going home right now Reiko!” She says grabbing your arm and escorting your out of the store trying to steer clear of Hiiro, who was now bending over a collapsed woman. Probably the woman who was infected by the bugster virus. He looks around as if scanning the area for trouble and sees you. You give him a smile and a wave before your mother pulls you away.

At home…

Dinner was pretty awkward, you managed to convince your mom to at least stop by a take out place for sukiyaki but eating around the table was pretty quiet. You honestly felt bad that such a nice day was ruined by a bugster attack. Of course it made you feel conflicted with how excited you were when you were watching the fight. “Umm…” You start trying to find the words. It’s not like you could tell them you were one of the Riders who fought to keep the city safe. “Sorry?” You ask voicing your opinion. It kind of was your fault that a fight happened in the streets. The monster was after you. “Sorry?” Your mother repeats incredulously. She sighs and puts her food down. “Reiko honey, your father and I were talking. We think it’s best you come back home to with us.” She says. You choke a bit on your drink. “What?!” You say a bit louder than you intended.

“Sweetie. We don’t think this city is a good place for you. If what happened earlier today is something common then we feel that it’s better if you come back home with us. Maybe go back to school too.”

You stare at your parents your jaw agape. You tried to argue but the words were caught in your throat. You struggle not to let tears come out. It wasn’t fair! Not only did they want you to leave the city to die but also to give up your career? “I...I…” Your eyes flick between your mother and father. “...Ineedtogotothebathroom.” You manage to blurt out as you rush upstairs and into your bathroom. You lock the door behind you and slump to the floor as you bury your face into your knees.

It wasn’t supposed to be like this…

You cry. It wasn’t a graceful or pretty cry, just raw anguish and frustration. Tears roll down your face and soak into the stomach of your hoodie making it damp then a bit soaked. You think of your dead friends, how the universe seemed to want to keep you from avenging them, how you just want to do the right thing with the power you were given. You think about Hiiro and how you’ve finally found someone you liked, how you wouldn’t be able to hang out with him anymore even if hanging out normally involved just talking. You rub your eyes and try to make the crying stop. You think you might have heard some knocking on the door but you don’t care.

Finally as you feel you reach the edges of despair, as you feel like it’s just better to go along with things and forget everything, you have a familiar thought run through your head.

NO

You sniffle and stand up with your face firm. You wipe your face and nose in your hoodie and toss it to the ground. You’d clean it later, right now something takes priority. As you walk down the stairs, you find your parents talking quietly to each other. “Sweetie are you ok?” Your mother asks but you raise your hand for a moment.

“I’m not going.” You say firmly. “I’m sorry?” Your mother asks confused. “I’m not going with you guys. I’m staying here.” You clarify. Your mother’s face hardens. “Reiko…” She starts with an angry tone. You shake your head. “I can’t leave mom. The city needs me.” You mother looks confused and frustrated. “Reiko, whatever you have going on is not as important as what we just saw. It’s dangerous with those creatures running around.”

“That’s exactly why I have to stay.” You say. “I’m a Kamen Rider and I’m protecting this city.” You say solemnly. “Honey don’t be ridiculous. You’re saying this like your some kind of superhero.”

“I am a hero mom!” You shout frustrated. “Those monsters killed my friends, right in front of my eyes! I can’t let them get away with it!”

Your mother looks shocked at you and then her expression slowly turns one to anger. “Well that doesn’t mean you need to risk your life! Do you even know what those things are?! You’re still a child Reiko! And-And you just want to go to war with those creatures?!”

“I have to mom!” You shout back. “I’m the only one with the power to do so! That guy who fought off that monster? That’s my gear he’s using! Someone gave me the power to save lives! I already know what it’s like to lose people close to me. I’m not gonna let them force anyone to feel that.” You say glaring. “Those monsters are people too! They’ve been infected with something called the bugster virus! Only someone with my power can separate the monster from the victim and save them before they vanish forever.” You say sitting down on the couch frustrated. Your mother is having none of this. “So you’re just going to pretend to be a doctor and go fight diseases?! What if you get infected?” You huff and look away. “Ialreadyam.” You mumble.

“What?!”
“I said I already am. I have Game Syndrome. That’s what the disease called. It’s how I’m able to transform. People who haven’t taken the surgery to build an immunity to the virus can’t use the gear I have. But since I already have the virus I can bypass that requirement.”

“We have to get you to a hospital! The doctors should know about this if it’s such a big thing in this city! They can do the whole cure thing on you.” You hold your tongue. That was true. If you were sick with Game Syndrome why didn’t Hiiro offer to fight your bugster and cure you? But then you immediately think. But do I want to be cured?

“That’s not how this works. News of the disease is suppressed by the government. We think they’ve been infiltrated by the Bugsters.” You explain. “Besides, I already went to one of the few doctors who know of the disease. He’s the one who fought off the monster. I already told you about him mom.” You say. “I asked him to use my stuff because I was afraid something was gonna happen.”
>>

You look a your mother. “Mom I have to do this.” You insist. “I’m the one who needs to find a way to stop the bugsters from terrorizing the city. You guys always taught me to do the right thing. Well now I have the ability to do that. If no one else steps up to the plate to do this then who will? You guys have always told me that no matter how hard something gets, that I can’t give up because if I do then I’ll always regret never giving it my all. Well now I know I’ll regret this for the rest of my life if I know I didn’t do my part to save everyone. I’m not alone! There’s other Riders who can help me. I just need to help them get their stuff back.” You say passionately. “So please...I have to stay. I have to…”

“Sweetie...Its nothing like-” Your mother starts before your father places his hand on her shoulder. “Sweetheart...you’re choosing a hard life to live if you do stay. You already said there’s someone else who can do this with your things. Are you sure you want to stay?” He asks. You nod quietly. Your father sighs and runs his fingers through his hair. “Alright. If your mind is set then we can’t stop you. If we took you home, you’d probably just find a way to come back here. I’m not sure where you got your stubbornness…” He admits. “Just promise me once this is over, you’ll come back to us.” He says quietly. You nod silently again, as you feel tears welling up. “I’ll try…” You whisper. “I don’t think I’ll be able to talk to you for a while. I don’t want them to know how to get to you.” You say numbly.

“We won’t pry then.” Your father says standing up. He pulls you into a hug. “Just be safe Reiko. You’ve always been a fighter but you’ve had a bad head for biting off more than you can chew.” He says patting your head. “Its ok.” You sniffle. “Hiiro will keep me in line. He’s stuffy like that.” You reply.

Your mother sobs openly and wraps her arms around you as well. “Please Reiko...please just come home with us.” She whispers. You shake your head. “I’m sorry mom. I can’t.” Is all you say. “Maybe we should get you two on a train today. I don’t want anything else to happen.” You add quietly.

Your father nods. “We don’t want to get in the way of Reiko’s work dear. We should head out.” You mother only cries louder at that.

Later...

You watch the train pull away as you wave to your parents goodbye. It really wasn’t how you wanted their visit to end but it was for the best. The farther away they were from the city, the less chance there was for the bugsters to hurt them. You walk through the streets with your hands in your pockets gathering your thoughts. The streets were busy with people still trying to get ready for Halloween. You accidentally bump into someone and fall to the floor. “Oh shit. Sorry.” You say getting up but you don’t get any response. “Hello?” You ask grumpily. If you were going to apologize they better be willing to accept it. The man you bumped into wasn’t paying attention as he was staring off into the distance, phone in hand. Following his gaze, you see a large TV screen mounted on a building that often played the news, commercials, and various announcements. Splashed across the screen is a logo displaying the words,

Genm Corp.

As the image fades, the camera pans in to a rather large man in a white suit. He takes a sniff of a rose he was holding and smiles.

“Good Afternoon Seito City! My name is Amagasaki Ren! As the CEO of Genm Corp, I am proud to announce the successful launch of Kamen Rider Chronicle!” He says with a boisterous laugh. “Ahh but I have been hearing the news that many of the players have been finding it difficult to complete the game.” He continues with a melodramatic pose. “But worry not my players. We at Genm Corp pride ourselves in our challenging games being completable. Harsh but fair! So have decided to roll out a new update to our game!” Amagasaki makes a flourishing motion as the camera fades away to a screenshot of...you?! More specifically, it was of your Ex-Aid form fighting Kaiden!

“Introducing the Kamen Riders!” A voice over announces. “These are volunteer players that wander around fighting bosses and competing against you! But don’t worry! Should you defeat them, their powerful gear and armor will be yours for the taking! Starting next week we will roll them out for a brand new three faction game! You can hunt them down solo or in groups! Just remember, they won’t take it lightly and will fight back! Who will win Chronicle? The Kamen Riders? Or the Ride Players? Happy Hunting!”

The screen fades back to the CEO clapping joyfully. “Astounding! A new way to play! This should help level the playing field for you! And for those who haven’t joined in on the fun, go to a local game store to pick up your copy! Weak or strong, old or young. Anyone can become a hero in our game! Remember, at Genm Corp our motto is ‘In this whole world, I. love. You!” He sings as he blows a kiss to the camera and the screen flicks back to a weather report.

You stand there in shock. Kamen Riders were now going to be targeted by regular players?! But...you were the only one. Unless they planned on using the Gashats themselves?! Did Hiiro know about this? What if he tried to perform an operation and he was attacked by players? You feel yourself running towards the nearest train as you ponder your next move.

>What does Reiko do?
>Go to Hiiro. He needs to know ASAP. It is late, you’re not sure if he’s in his office right now or busy.
>Go home and research. Maybe Genm Corp has a list of what their line of Kamen Riders were and what their abilities are.
>Text Hiiro, if he’s not at his office maybe he can come over to your place? You’re not sure if he would though with him being a busy surgeon.

Anons, are you asking for Hiiro to come visit your house? L-Lewd We'll look for him and text him to come over. He's got your stuff after all.
>>
You hop on a train and head for the hospital, your mind spinning at the implications. Where they planning something and trying to blame Kamen Riders? Did they finally notice someone had defeated 3 of the boss monsters and this was their way to slow you down? Maybe they finally realized the threat you posed.

You step off the train and run towards the hospital. Pulling your phone out you shoot a text to Hiiro.

Coming to see you. Are you in your office?

As you hit send, you realize. You’re not actually sure where Hiiro’s office is. You stand outside the hospital pondering your next move. Hiiro hasn’t responded so he was probably busy. You walk in and towards a receptionist. “Hi, I want to see Dr. Kagami.” You say. “Erm, the younger one.” You clarify. The nurse shakes her head. “I’m sorry miss. But Dr. Kagami isn’t receiving any visitors. He’s not that kind of doctor.”

“Yeah but I need to talk to him about something important.” You insist. “Well I’m sorry but even his admirers are allowed to see him.” The receptionist repeats. Admirers?! You frown unsure you like the implication of that. You decide to leave the hospital rather than be a nuisance.

Looking at your phone, you see that you haven’t gotten a response. Grumbling a bit for making it all the way to the hospital for nothing you send another text to Hiiro.

They wouldn’t let me see you in your office. Can you come over to my place? You hesitate a bit. Was that a too forward? You go back and forth between variations on the same message before going with.
Receptionist says you don’t take visits. Can you come over to my place to drop off my stuff? I wanna talk. There was an announcement for Chronicle that might be a problem.

The train ride was uneventful as you try not to doze off. The day must’ve taken more out of you than you thought. As you step on to the boarding platform you feel your phone buzz and bearing the message.

Send me your address. I’ll stop by on my way home.

Your heart skips a beat and you quickly send him your address in another text. Hiiro was coming over! You hail a taxi and make your way back to your place. As you enter the house, you realize it is a bit unkempt as your parents left in a hurry and you didn’t really take the time to clean up. There was still left over soup on the table. You could clean up a bit but you did feel a bit tired. You didn’t know when Hiiro’s shift ended but it probably wasn’t for a few more hours.
>What does Reiko do?
>Take a nap. You feel worn out and you probably don’t want to fall asleep in the middle of a conversation.
>Clean up around the house. You don’t want Hiiro to think you’re some kind of slob.
>Try and make something to eat? You’re not sure if Hiiro has eaten yet and it’s polite for a host to have something to offer their guests.

Reiko does have a new trait!
>Heart on my sleeve: You have trouble telling lies or keeping your feelings hidden. So you have to make the best out of telling the truth and being open about yourself! Whenever Reiko is telling the truth or being open about her true feelings in an effort to convince someone in a conversation you get +2 to your rolls.

With that i'm gonna call it a night and i'll post in the morning. The New Riders arc has just begun!

Besides Hiiro will probably notice we're struggling to stay awake straight away, since he's our doctor after all.

Also I really need to rewatch Ex-aid, I forgot that Kuroto was dead by this point.

Order take out for two if Reiko gets up before Hiiro arrives.

You dump the dishes into the sink and decide to wash them later. Yawning you make a quick call to a nearby restaurant for some take out before flopping onto your couch and falling asleep.

In your dreams…

It’s always the same scene. You on the ground choking. Parado trying to force you to transform with the Chronicles Gashat. You hear him laughing, telling you to do it. Like always, you hear the footsteps running towards you. You think you can see someone coming this time. You can’t make out who they are but they’re wearing white.

”PARADO!”

But for the first time, at the very precipice of your awareness, you hear...a click and a voice announcing.

Kamen Rider Chronicle

You wake with a scream, as the sound of your doorbell rings several times. Trembling your shuffle over to the door and open it, trying to get over the weariness of just waking up. A delivery boy is standing there holding two bags. “You uhh...Reiko?” He asks bored as his breath hovers in front of him. You nod and yawn. “Here’s your food.” You pay him and send him off only to hear your doorbell ring again.

Wondering who that could be you open the door again to find Hiiro standing at your door. “Hiiro!” You say surprised. You really shouldn’t be. You did invite him. Finally looking behind him, you notice it’s dark out and the sun has set. “Oh uhh come in!” You stammer letting him indoors. “I got us some take out.” You say motioning to the bags.

“You didn’t have to.” Hiiro replies politely as he takes a seat in your living room. You shake your head. “You’re my doctor. So as your patient, I have to make sure you’re on a proper dietary regimen. Otherwise you’ll become sick and inattentive and won’t be able to perform your duties properly.” You mirror his explanation with a cheeky grin as you serve his food. “Besides, it’s bad manners for a host not to have a meal ready for their guest.”

“I see…” He replies quietly. You think you can see the faintest hint of a smile at the edge of his lips but it’s a bit too dark to tell. You turn the lights on in your home and sit opposite to him. “Sorry, I don’t really have a proper kitchen to eat. I spent most of my money on getting my bedroom set up.” You explain eating quietly.

Hiiro doesn’t reply and quietly eats his meal. You cough and think you should probably let him know what you called him over for. Though you don’t think having some small talk would be a bad thing.

>What does Reiko want to talk about with Hiiro
>Get to the point. Talk about the commercial you saw
>Ask him how his day has been beyond fighting bugsters.
>Ask him about...his admirers?

Rolls needed for anything that isn’t the first option. Brooding doctor is still quiet about his personal life.

“So you’re probably wondering why I asked you to come over.” You say awkwardly trying to get the conversation rolling. Hiiro opens his briefcase and sets your gear on the table. “I assumed you wanted your Driver and Gashat back.” He said. “You’re Ex-Aid, not me.” You nod then shake your head. “Well yeah but actually no.” You stammer prompting a confused look from him. “I think things just got a bit more serious.” You say standing up to sit next to Hiiro. You try your hardest not to blush as you sit close to him. “Look, Genm Corp just released this.” You say playing the commercial for him on your phone. Hiiro watches intently like always.

“Genm Corp...what are you planning…” He mutters deep in thought. “I think he’s gonna try something to make the Riders look bad. If he shifts the public opinion against us then we’ll have a harder time curing the bugster virus.” You say. “How hard is it to get compatibility surgery?” You ask. “If it’s too hard then maybe they won’t try anything for a while.”

“No. They’ll plan to mimic you and the intern.” Hiiro says. “Infecting someone with the virus is much easier, and if the person becomes a bugster then it’s simply better for them in the long run.” You frown. You hadn’t thought of that. “But we have to do something.” You insist. Hiiro looks at you.
“We? You’re the Rider. Not me.” He says. You glare a bit a Hiiro. “No. You’re one too! Yesterday wasn’t just a fluke you know.” You say frustrated. “We’ll get your stuff back somehow! You can help me fight back! And maybe we can get the whole crew back together!”

“And how do you propose to do that?” Hiiro asks you, looking at you with his intense brown eyes. You try to ignore the thought that you can look at them forever and respond.

>Well?! How do we get his stuff back?
>Play the game. Eventually one of the Kamen Riders will find you. If you beat him, you’ll get their driver and gashat.
>Go online and challenge a specific Rider out for a 1v1. Do it under the guise of a player so they don’t suspect a thing.
>Try to find out who the players behind the new crew of Riders are. Find them and try to steal their gear before they transform.

>Play the game. Eventually one of the Kamen Riders will find you. If you beat him, you’ll get their driver and gashat.

Oof this is a difficult one.

Choice 3 is out because sneaking around is probably not Hiiro's thing and if we just nick the gear then the new riders will just get more from Genm. Beating them might convince some to thrown in the towel. Might be an idea to have Florida Man (he's still around, right?) to research into the new riders anyways. I'll bet they'll be quick to brag about the shiny new gear they've gotten.

Was considering choice 2, but the last thing we need are rumors that the 'enemy' rider team use underhanded tactics like smurfing spreading among the player base, since that will turn public opinion against us even more and might prompt even more people to become riders to try to 'teach us a lesson'. Plus it will get the remaining riders super pissed at us.
>>
>>3905949
Forgot to say that with choice one we're not going to be waiting around twiddling our thumbs until someone pops up to challenge us.

Have Florida Man and Akihito 'leak' information about a new Kamen rider spawning if need be to get someone to bite. Maybe once we've chosen a target, to get them to come to us?

Can get upgrades for both Ex Aid and Brave this way. Maybe get a sighting of Snipe too. #2 only works once
Also Honary Florida Man probs 100% believes we're dead so we gotta talk to him ASAP
>>
>>3905949
Nice 19!
>>3905949
>>3905962
Ok, so the plan is to continue to fight bugsters in hopes that you might meet another Rider trying to fight regular Ride Players/Bosses? Also contact FM and Akihito see if they can spread rumors to draw more people to you? Maybe have them just look up to see if any of the new riders are bragging to see if you can home in on them?
>>
>>3905966
Yeah basically. FM and Akihito provide reconnaissance on the new riders and also tweet out sightings to draw people in.

Beating up bugster also means Reiko gets some much needed combat experience, and also reduces the chances of other ride players getting killed by them. If any ride player challenges us we just aim to break their gear.
>>
Sounds good to me. Looks like we're reforming CR with a Special Cases Department vibe from Drive. I dig it. I got some errands to run so I'll do the write up when I get back.
>>
“We play the game.” You say. Hiiro gives you a funny look. “One sec.” You say and dash up the stairs. You rummage through your bag and pull the two Gashattrophies you won from defeating Aranbura and the Shark Monster. “I got these trophies.” You say as you come down the stairs and hold them out for Hiiro to see. “Won them when I beat the two bugsters. I think if we collect them all we can stop the game once and for all. Plus, if we’re fighting bugsters we might attract the attention of some other Kamen Riders who probably want to beat us. If they’re working for the bugsters, then they’ll come to stop us. If they’re just regular players tricked into playing then they’ll stop us so they can take all our stuff.”

You feel a bit proud for your plan. If you were gonna take down a game company then you’d do what you do best. Be a Pro Gamer. Hiiro gives you a look. “And how will we know about the other riders?” He asks. You give him a sly wink and raise your phone. “If we’re gonna play a death game, then we have to think about this like a gamer. We network.” You grin. “I know two guys who can help us. They can spread rumors that we’re a new rider or something. Eventually another Rider will want to dethrone us. If they’re regular players, we can use the opportunity to take their Gashats away so they can’t play anymore. They can also keep us posted with any tweets or updates to the game.”

“Sounds like you have this all figured out.” Hiiro says. You nod. “We’re gonna rebuild CR.” You say. “We have to Hiiro.” You continue when he gives you another odd look. “Maybe the bugsters beat you once. Maybe they hold the better pieces but we can’t give up. You said a doctor has to do what they can to cure their patient right? Well the city is sick and we have the cure.” You look Hiiro straight in the eyes. “You’ll help us right? You’re more experienced than me and you’re the only other person who can transform.” Hiiro is about to say something before you interrupt him. “Please?”

Hiiro lets out a sigh. “Very well. As your doctor, I have to make sure your Game Syndrome is under check. I can not let you do this on your own without some kind of supervisor.” He says placing your driver in your hands. “We’re counting on you Ex-Aid.” He says.

You grin widely and nod. “By the way,” He says. “Your Driver. It has some kind of computer port.” He says. “Have you seen it?” He asks, pointing to the port you had opened a while back. “Oh yeah, I saw it but I’m guessing it’s where it’s programmed?” Hiiro shakes his head. “Mine had no such thing. Didn’t even have that removable cover.” He stands. “Well then. I suppose I’ll see you in CR tomorrow?” He asks heading to the door. You nod. “Then I’ll see you there.” Hiiro says opening the door. “Thank you very much for the meal.” He adds awkwardly before leaving.

You hug your driver to your chest still grinning. Things were finally getting started.

I think this is a good place to stop this episode. Thanks again for playing. I'll have the next thread up in a few hours. Hope you enjoyed this thread. I'll archive it and see you guys in a bit.
I have my twitter here if you care for updates, though it's pretty easy to follow my game I think but I'll post the link to the next thread here too.

Nice, we're finally getting CR back together. Also Hiiro is just so adorably awkward around Reiko, can't wait till CR regains members who can actually tease him about her.

Though one thing that's been bothering me is the lack of line breaks between different people speaking? I'm super tired while reading this, admittedly, but it took me a couple of read throughs to figure out who said what.
>>
>>3906089
That's my bad. It's a combination of spaces being considered as a character and trying not to dump three posts of text because of that. I'll space them out and work on that so it's more legible. If it causes multiple posts then so be it.
