You are Ushi Walker, hero name Loanstar, the half-japanese/half-american wielder of the mighty quirk “Everything is Bigger in Texas", U.A. High first year student, one of Edgeshot's interns and, right now, an ambush predator.

Tasked with staying out of sight and keeping watch for CO2 escapes and suspicious people near the quarry entrance, you would say you did pretty well.

Weird sound? Checked out, even staying out of sight by climbing to the wall with Trickshot, your fellow intern.

Shark woman with a bag? Sent a 3 feet tall Tin to check it out.

Strange wall? Tin went past the shark woman and her newly arrived lizard man friend to check it out.

The shark woman's hands swiping through Tin's armor after the lizard man told her to get rid of it, like it was nothing but water held together by surface tension? Currently hopping off the wall to deal with that one.

Once a disposable machine, Tin is much more now than the mobile target practice it was built to be, a friend of yours whose nightly vigil has done a lot to help you sleep at peace.

Not that any of that matters, anyway.

What kind of hero would you be if you were willing to let harm befall anyone when you could do something about it?

Not the kind you want to be, that's for sure.

That's why you ended up where you are right now, a hand on your thigh and the other firmly grasping your whip's handle as you fall, winding up your whipping arm and steeling yourself for what's to come.

You are no ninja yourself, and your shiny white outfit with a red and white half-cape would mark you as the center of attention in most situations, but this time and under the cloak of darkness, you feel like trying your hand at following Edgeshot's style.

Using your quirk to enlarge yourself has quite a few side effects if you do it while moving, even if it's just to go back to normal from a smaller size. First, your quirk covers you in a white, wispy mist while it works. Then, there's the fact that your sudden mass increase, while it doesn't make you instantly go faster, it adds a lot of force to the equation.

It all adds up to you falling upon the woman hurting your robot like a vengeful cloud, ready to strike her down in a single, optimal strike.

So, you do. She doesn't even have the time to react before the cracker of your whip connects with her left temple, knocking her head to the side almost like if you had connected a hook to her cheekbone and leaving her standing stiff, seemingly catatonic.

"Howdy!" You say, sticking a three point landing between the woman and the man, the mist disappearing into your skin.

Hearing your voice, Tin does as instructed, opening fire with its twin guns, spraying non-lethal wax projectiles everywhere, hitting both the surprised lizard guy, the stunned shark gal and yourself. Not what you thought it'd do, but it didn't manage to get past your suit, nor the man's scaly hide.

The woman, however, falls over next to Tin like a spineless ragdoll the moment a wax shot hits her, collapsing into a heap.

"...And good night!" You quip, not entirely sure what else to say, but glad to have saved Tin from further harm.

>"SAKANA!" The lizard looking man howls, barely managing to take a step in your direction before a small weight zooms at his face, explosively expanding right before connecting.

Your teeth hurt just from seeing it, but the man falls on his ass, recoiling and coughing… what looks to be blood, spit and a teeth. You aren't sure how much of each.

>"Stay down!" Johai yells as he gracefully lands next to you on a single foot, as if he had just fallen less than a feet. "Edgeshot is coming, don't try anything."

He pulls back his weight-on-a-string and spins it over his head, ready to throw it again.
Seeing him pose in such a way, you hold your whip at the ready, holding the thong with your off-hand to make it look ready to crack.

Then you hear the sobbing, then the wailing.

A quick glance at the ground makes the source clear, as you see the shark gal clutching her head and crying.

For a second, you think of checking out how she was doing, if maybe your whip had done more damage than you intended… But maybe it wasn't the right time to do that.

You can see the lizard man take a knee and wipe his face with his ragged sleeve, yellow eyes glimmering with dark intent as he glares at you and your fellow intern.

With his bodytype, it's not easy to tell, but you can deduce that he's trying to look fearsome and intimidating before opening his mouth.

The gal on the other hand, seems to be trying to remain conscious. Or maybe to stop being so. Or maybe she just has the headache of a lifetime.

>What do you do?

>[Nothing good will come out of his mouth, why let him speak? Whip him! "Sorry pal, ain't riskin' a poison breath or somethin'!" (Hands 4d10 + Whip's bonuses)]
>[Stay put, words can't do anything, and Edgeshot should be here within a minute. Let him monologue, hell, make him talk even more! "Your next line will be 'Do yourself a favour and turn around, wait five and then call the police'!" (Face + Connive, 3d10)]
>[Go check out the gal's state. You are under no obligation to care for villains, but there's no need for undue suffering. "Hey there. Stay still, lemme see what Ah can do…"]

If it’s a breath weapon quirk, I don’t want to get hit, but if it’s just words I don’t want to brutalize him for it. I’d want to check on Sakana but if she struggles it could make it worse. As such:

>Get ready to grab Tin and dodge if he decides he’s still fighting!

>[Nothing good will come out of his mouth, why let him speak? Whip him! "Sorry pal, ain't riskin' a poison breath or somethin'!" (Hands 4d10 + Whip's bonuses)]

Looks like he’s going to attack, so we shouldn’t stop hitting him. We could also austin toss something from Ushi’s pouch. It would hit harder than the whip, but might be overkill or take too long (letting him use his breath quirk).
>>
>>3903354
I’ve changed my mind. Scratch this >>3903401

Instead, let’s flex our psychological warfare muscles and go with

>[Stay put, words can't do anything, and Edgeshot should be here within a minute. Let him monologue, hell, make him talk even more! "Your next line will be 'Do yourself a favour and turn around, wait five and then call the police'!" (Face + Connive, 3d10)]

I mean, the existence of the option implies he’s about to talk (not attack us), let’s not brutalize him. Not brutalizing people is what we came here to learn, after all.
>>
>>3903354
>[Nothing good will come out of his mouth, why let him speak? Whip him! "Sorry pal, ain't riskin' a poison breath or somethin'!" (Hands 4d10 + Whip's bonuses)]

>>3903354
I think we should let Johai handle this one. Brutalising people doesn't seem right. Though we should let him know what we intend to do with like a head gestures and...

>[Go check out the gal's state. You are under no obligation to care for villains, but there's no need for undue suffering. "Hey there. Stay still, lemme see what Ah can do…"]

Of course, staying on guard and taking Tin away if something does happen.
>>

"Hey there. Stay still, lemme see what Ah can do…"

I feel like we will hilariously fail the face roll, but we need to help the poor girl - and tell her not to hurt robots.
>>
>>3903437
Even if he is going to talk (I still think he’s going to attack) the blue text would suggest it’s most likely going to be an intimidation attempt. Anything he says while trying to intimidate us we aren’t going to consider, we aren’t backing down to him. Him talking rather than fighting basically gives us a free attack, best for us to use it.

Also we came here to learn how to brutalize more not less. Shrink dodging attacks better so we take less injuries and can hit people harder for longer.

>>3903518
Under this system, the girl won’t die from us not helping her. Let’s deal with the guy who’s still standing, then help her.

Ushi already embodies Jonathan really well, specially in the "Take every hit upfront" department.
To be Jotaro you gotta bluff like a god and say one liners.
To be Josuke you gotta... beat people up on a bestial rage over petty reasons?'
To be Giorno, make asspulls that put every asspull that came before to shame, while your
awesome theme song is playing.
To be Jolyne... beat people up while being detrimentally horny? That might happen with Ushi.
To be Johnny, beat people... without any use of your legs, I guess?
To be Gappy, spoilers.

To be Jotaro you gotta bluff like a god and say one liners.
Wasn't Jotaro based off Clint Eastwood? I feel like we'd take a lot of inspiration from the mannerism of westerns.
>To be Giorno, make asspulls that put every asspull that came before to shame, while your
awesome theme song is playing.
I haven't read through the manga, but isn't there a way for quirks to get stronger? Or are the villains just now realizing their full potential? I'm sure the same will happen for Ushi.
On a side note, what is her theme song? Big Iron?
>To be Jolyne... beat people up while being detrimentally horny? That might happen with Ushi.
But we're already horny! We got it from mom remember? It doesn't help that there's a lot of cute boys around.
>To be Johnny, beat people... without any use of your legs, I guess?
Nope, you've just gotta spin to win!

You could just try to smack him down and out, but you don't see the point in that.
He might scream, yell or try to make you back down, but this is already over, no matter what he thinks nor what he does.

With Edgeshot on his way, all you need to do is, well, not fuck it up. Keep 'em busy and keep 'em here for a minute or two more…

There's a single way to do that without getting physical that you can think of on short notice, and that's running your mouth. You can do that.

As his demeanor tells you he'll try to be intimidating, you make an educated guess as to what he'll try. Nothing better to disrupt a scary atmosphere than mockery.

"Your next line will be 'Do yourself a favour and turn around, wait five and then call the police'!" You say as you reach for Tin, laying your hand on it and slowly making it grow, sparing a second to motion to trickshot to let you handle this.

>"Do yourself a favour and turn around, wait five and then call the police- Wait what?" The scaled man says, first dismissively, waving a glistening hand in your direction, then his visible confusion breaks the facade.

You can see a thin coat of a silvery substance coat his hand, likely related to his quirk, the one melting dogs faces off. Scary stuff… But somehow, not the worst you've seen, nor fought.

...It does nothing. After all you've been through, the beaten man on the ground doesn't even shake your resolve.

"Ah reckon y'all soundin' like a two bit crook right now, ain't too hard to guess what you'd say." You say, staring him down. You aren't lying, just… Embellishing a good guess. "A grown ass man trying to scare a couple kids into letting him get away."

>"Really, trust me. I've seen how bad this thing can get!" He says raising his voice, pointing his fingers down and letting droplets of the substance drip from his claws, splashing the grass and melting it down, like heated butter. "It's not even the pain, and no one ever cares about the smell. The fear of death always hits then when they hear the bones hit the floor-"

While Trickshot's shifting eyes look disturbed, none of this really affects you.
A real psycho would have charged already, clawing for your throat.

If being amongst the targets of a murderous handyman has any benefits, is that most gruesome things pale in comparison.

"Ah assume knowing they are yours is what gets 'em into shock!" You continue, mocking him further. If the first time sent him rambling as such, you are more than happy to try again.

>"I assume knowing they are yours is what gets 'em into shock! S-stop that!" He yells, seething and visibly shaking.

"Why don'tcha just stay down bub?" You insist, taking your hand off the now 8 feet tall Tin. It should be able to fend for itself.

>"Ah''m fucked no matter what." He answers, any airs of intimidation gone, sounding instead like a sad old man. "Been in the gutters mah whole fucking life, I can deal with it ending in another. Samehime there just wanted a taste of adventure, away from the hamlets… Things just gonna get a whole lot worse now."

"Wait, Ah though she was Sakana?" You quickly ask, suddenly confused.

Trickshot looks at you with a mix of exasperation and tiredness that you can't quite decipher.

>"Fishy? Ain't nobody named like that." The lizard guy says with a pained chuckle, showing far more teeth than you thought he should have. "Look at the kid, it's just a nickname, ...Meushi."

It's this point, Johai fails to stifle a giggle.

"...Close but no cigar." You say through grit teeth. "What were you saying?"

>"He must be thinking of criminal records." Another voice says from behind you, one you recognize and sorely missed for the last few minutes. "That, and stalling."

>"Edgeshot!" Johai yells the moment he hears the older ninja's voice, turning around. "Wait, when… Fuck."

Looking behind you for an instant, you look back at the lizard guy, then back behind you.

...To a shark fin sprouting out of the ground a dozen feet away, with a red rope stabbing the ground a foot further away.

Looking up, you can follow the rope up to your mentor's shoulder, perched on a tree branch.

>"I apologize for the delay, this mask was not built with my quirk in mind, but I wasn't able to leave it behind." He says, as calm and cool as ever.

"I surrender. Lock me up." The lizard man says, looking at the newly arrived hero and letting himself fall forwards, extending his arms. "Trying the kids was a moonshot. Might as well shoot myself if I'm gonna try and fight Edgeshot of all heroes."

>"Now, if your associate down here were to surface, I wouldn't need to fish her out." Edgeshot adds, tensing the red rope.

In a second the shark lady rises up from the liquid ground with her face up, the dirt rolling down her like actual water. You try not to look too hard at the fact that Edgeshot's red string seemed to pierce her palate and grab her by the mouth.

>"...Ah wanna go home.." She moans, covering her face with both hands.

>"...Sorry kid." The lizard man says, dejected, but not moving.

"What do we do now? Just… Wait for the police and hand 'em over?" You ask, looking at it all.

The guy laying on his belly, offering his arms up and the girl covering her face. You have no doubts they won't run. If not for Edgeshot, the fact that Tin has a spinning gun trained on each.

>"What else could we do?" Trickshot asks, finally storing his weight and string in his pouch. "Taking the villains down is what heroes do. Everything else is up to the justice system."

"Ah guess…" You say, feeling a little bit let down. You aren't quite sure why.
>>
It takes a couple minutes, but the four police officers that went into the quarry with Edgeshot make their way to you soon enough, running, sadly, with their arms by their sides.

Special looking cuffs are put on them both before they are carried off.
Another couple of minutes later, the officers come back to the scene.

>"I told you they weren't just kids in pajamas." Your mentor tells the officers, almost sounding smug but still remaining cool and factual.

>"Just be glad it went well. Don't the internship programs demand they be under your direct supervision while acting as heroes?" One of the officers comments.

>"Indeed." The hero says. "I am glad."

...

Then, out of nowhere, they laugh. It's not particularly loud, but it's strange to see Edgeshot, the cool and collected hero that he is, sharing a laugh with four cops you have no idea who they are.

>"You were under my supervision and everything went well. The details should remain in the dark." Edgeshot says, this time looking at you and your fellow intern.

>"Well, you go take care of your kids then, we'll find out what they are guilty of." The officer says, then looks at you and Johai and adds with a joking tone. "We don't arrest the innocent, you know."

It was no brutal brawl on an open battlefield, but this scrap still happened at night, and with the long day starting to wear on you, you have no problem following your mentor back.

Sure, there are a few questions lingering in your mind, but you opt to keep them there for a little bit more.

"So, what y'all gonna do with the death cloud in the ho-" You try to ask as the three of you prepare for another rooftop run, cutting yourself off with a yawn. "-le. 'scuse me. But yeah. What's up with the doomhole?"

>"This was a wake-up call, it won't happen again." Edgeshot answers, nodding and sparing a glance at the quarry entrance. "This place was abandoned and out of mind for centuries, hardly a problem worth any resources to fix. A simple report indicating it was being used for villainous activities will force the mayor to fix it.."

"Huh. Ah thought it couldn't be fixed." You say, tapping your chin like one of your classmates often does.

>"Far from impossible, just expensive." The hero clarifies. "Which might as well mean impossible until something forces the city to deal with it."

>"I bet the first proposal will be to just fill it with concrete and put up another plaque." Trickshot comments.

The elder ninja nods in agreement, and so do you, if only to not be left out.

The race back to Edgeshot's tower is unsurprisingly silent, as you all pay attention to the streets below, making sure to smile and wave at everyone you come across in your path.

However, since you can't just off the unease the short fight left you with, you reach a compromise with yourself and make sure you can voice your concerns later.

"Sir, 'but what happun' tonight, are we gonna have a briefin' tomorrow?" You ask before the three of you split. "What happened 'n there? And what will happen with 'em?"

>"You were there." Johai helpfully points out.

"Not in the mine, nor with the cops, ya know?" You argue, hoping the professional hero would agree. "

>"There'll be time for that during tomorrow's training, if you want to talk about that." He says, crossing his arms. "Well done surprising your foes today. Tomorrow we'll see how make the best of it, first strikes are great, but the last strike is the one that matters."

>"Fainting strike time!?" The younger ninja asks, pulling his mask down to reveal a smile.

>"Don't get too excited, while not particularly hard, your quirks won't be helpful. Rest well, tomorrow should be an important day." Edgeshot says, walking away before stopping and looking over his shoulder. "Ah, Loanstar?"

"Yessir?" You ask, wondering what's left to do.

>"I'll need a copy of your robot's memory of the night. Should be enough to avoid having to pull you from classes to testify later, or dealing with the police wanting to seize it." He says before walking off.

"Uh, sure. Can do." You have no idea how or if you can do that, but you aren't letting go of Tin anytime soon.

>"Two off the streets… Pretty great for two highschoolers!" Johai remarks before leaving for his room.

"G'night, Trix." You tell him, not mockingly, but poking a bit of fun at his name.

>"Later, Star." He replies, in that japanese pronunciation that never quite gets the 'r' at the end right.

After that, what you do is rather simple. Cast costume off, put concert tee on, tuck yourself in and wish Tin a good night.

>"I'm still fit to serve!" It declares the moment you take it out of its pouch. "Armor integrity and communications are damaged but I'm 77% operative!"

"You did well, pal. Don't feel bad." You tell the damaged robot, placing it on the floor and letting it roam the sparse room on its own. It hurts a bit to see the damaged metal atop its head, an entire antena missing, but you remind yourself that Tin can't really feel pain, at least of the physical kind. "By the way, can you Ah dunno, output a video file or somethin'? Everythin' and anythin' you have on what happened in the park."

>"I will have a report and references ready by morning." The tiny again Tin says as it takes off towards the open suitcase in which the pile of gear that is your costume lies. "Rest, Mistress, I'll keep watch!"

Strangely, you think you see it unfolding the suit before your eyes stay shut for the night, missing the simplicity of having a clearly evil villain to very clearly pummel.

Come morning, you feel the very, very strange feeling of normalcy.

It's not your bed, not even a bed, yet it feels like routine to roll up your futon for the next night at the crack of dawn to store it in the closet and go take a shower in the modern japanese bath, one could fit another two to three people.

Judging comfy yet firm white and cyan track pants and top would be good enough for a training heavy day, you proceed to throw on an apron and cook a perfectly normal japanese breakfast for 3, planning to eat two plates if needed.

Homemade fish sticks breaded with panko for breakfast seems like a good first step to introduce the ninjas to butter fried breakfast foods. Soon enough, they'll be having bacon with their rice!

Eventually, the smell of the delicious breakfast brings Johai to the living area.
Seemingly having had the same idea as you, your fellow intern looks like an Adidas showroom mannequin, in a black tracksuit with red stripes-

"Are you wearing merch?" You ask him, placing a plate on the table for him.

>"And you look like you are just wearing a white apron." He shoots back, putting on the hood and revealing the white crest atop it, making you snort before the comment registers.

You quickly take the apron off, curl it into a ball and throw it away, redfaced.

>"That's… Different." He says, sitting down and pointing at you with chopsticks before trying the fish. "I'm not commenting further. Good fish though."
>>
"Thanks!" You reply, sitting down with your own plate, hoping Edgeshot would show up before anything gets cold.

>"Thought you were more of a beef kind of girl though." Johai comments.

"Ah Ah'm!" You point out, jabbing in his direction with a fork. "Can't really do a steak or burger for breakfast… Ah reckon Ah might whip up somethin' nice for dinner one o' these days though."

Sadly, the country's number three hero only shows up after you divide the last plate between Johai's and yours.

"Howdy, sir!" You greet the hero the moment you can spot him.

>"...Good morning. I see both of you prepared for today's training." Edgeshot comments, turning around, evidently waiting for you to follow you.

"Uh, sir, so…" You say, hesitating a bit as you follow the hero back to the main training room. "May Ah ask what ended up happenin' yesterday?"

>"Two previously unknown villains were apprehended by their hideout, which they had dismantled for the most part." He answers, his tone showing little to no interest in the matter. "Their bags were full of what's assumed to be stolen goods, which along with their quirks links them to several unsolved crimes over the past six months if not more. He will be between bars within a week. The girl was a minor though. It's likely she'll be sent home with a tracker if the prosecution feels it's justs to condense it all under a single charge of illegal quirk usage along with the crimes themselves instead of straight up villainy."

It's weird to just hear of the prosecution and not of the attorneys, but you are no lawyer, nor have your lessons on 'hero law' focused on the villains, focusing narrowly on the heroes' duties, powers and responsibilities.

It’s because I don’t.

Being a student in an internship, it feels wrong to not take the chance you have to ask a couple of occupational questions from one of the best there in the business. He may not be a lawyer himself, either, but his views as a professional hero should surely be helpful.

"Feels like it's a tad too early to be so certain." You comment, tapping your index fingers together as you follow him. "Ah mean, there's the trial with 'em lawyers and the jury, right?"

While Edgeshot's humming and looking-up is universal enough for you to know he's piecing an explanation together, it's Trickshot who lets you know how little you understand.

>"What's a jury got to do with this?" Johai asks in earnest curiosity. "It's more of a judge's job, isn't it?"

"Ah mean, kinda?" You answer, not expecting to have to answer questions yourself. "Don't y'all have jury of at least twelve folks to try and sentence criminal cases? Or at least do the guilty n' not guilty bit?"

>"Sounds like a waste of time." The younger ninja affirms. "Why take someone to court if they aren't guilty?"

"Well… Ah think most of the cases end with some sort of deal instead of in court anyway." You have to admit, shrugging. "But yeah! What's with that anyway? We don't arrest the innocent, you know."

>"It's strange, having to explain it, but I see things are different in America." Edgeshot says, finally joining in the conversation. "Disposing of the more technical aspects, it's all based on reputation."

He doesn't wait for you to interject before elaborating, perhaps seeing your grimace was enough.

>"Much like heroes need to maintain a favorable public image if they are to be successful, prosecutors and lawyers must do the same." The ninja explains, waving a hand around, probably picking his words with care. "No prosecutor wants to be amongst the few to lose a case, so they make sure any case to be prosecuted is guaranteed to end with the suspect found guilty. It doesn't seem to be hard, as the suspect's reputation and appearance does most of the work."

"Ah… Ah don't like how that sounds." You softly let out, drawing lines to unsavory topics.

>"It's nothing you should worry about." The hero reassures you, explaining it clearly and calmly. "Heroes are only obligated to act in cases of criminal quirk usage, and raids are well researched, so there's a nigh-zero chance of apprehending an innocent. Were it to happen, any normal person would leave not prosecuted, just in a probationary state at worst."
>>
>"Or you know, teenagers." Johai adds. "Fishy has a last chance before 'adding to the book'."

This time you can hear Edgeshot sigh heavily in his mask, making the younger ninja skip a step, so you are pretty sure it's no normal book he talked about.

"...The book?" You ask, not really sure if you want to know.

>"...Decades ago, someone, maybe a group, wrote a book. 'A Comprehensive List of Undesirable Traits, I think it was called." The hero explains, clearly not liking what he has to say. "A digital file distributed online, it pointed out certain… physical traits alongside quirks, accents and neighborhoods as risk factors for personnel managers and worried families to look for and avoid, citing their relationship with villains and criminals for each. it was banned immediately, but it was still secretly updated for years and before a large company blew the whistle on the authors and their investors. Hard to disagree on it being unfair to discriminate based on meta abilities, as silly as their monicker for quirks was."

>"...Sorry. I thought you knew?" Johai offers, looking lost for the first time since you've met him. "Some people just like to point at any bad guy fitting the damn thing and say that they should have seen it coming."

>What do you do?

...No.

While you want to get to training and make the best of the chance you have here, you can't but ask one final question...

"...Why would Ah know that?" You ask, your eyes darting from ninja to ninja, dreading the answer.

Were it about anything else, you'd be giggling or snorting at their expressions as they exchange glances, but it doesn't feel funny right now.

>"Not the kind of teaching I thought I was signing in for." The Hero amongst you says, briefly reminding you of your homeroom teacher.

>"Like I said, as reviled as it was, I'm afraid it either left its stain on the public consciousness, or codified what was already thought." He continues, pausing every so often to look for the right words. "The most relevant line would be something to the effect of 'Bovine types have been the group with the most non-villainous crime for over a decade', the following would be that 'they are the least educated group, with less than half graduating highschool'."

"Is…" You stutter before mustering a bit of courage and asking properly. "Is it true?"

>"Are you planning on dropping out? To become a petty criminal?" The hero replies.

"N-no, Ah just…" You say, fumbling with your words, unsure of what to say, losing yourself in thought.

As far as your own experiences go, your bullying had only been due the perception of what 'being part cow' was, which your classmates seemingly thought meant dumb until puberty hit, then it meant you didn't really need personal space.

You don't want to think what your highschool graduation would have been like back home...

Next thing you know, Edgeshot is staring at you.
After taking a moment to sigh, he takes a knee in front of you, seeing you eye to eye.

>"There are only two substantial groups in Japan, if you try to group by mutations and quirks, and there's plenty of of fire using villains, completing high school is no way required in Japan and people in more rural areas often prefer trade training. So yes, if you want it to be, it's true. Do you?" He asks, placing a hand on your shoulder.

You can tell it's meant to be reassuring, but it feels like his gray eyes are boring into your soul.

"Not every bad guy 's a villain you can beat up, some you can only prove wrong." You say, pulling words from memory.

>"U.A. Student, first year Sports Festival's Champion. You are on the right track, keep doing your best." The hero awkwardly says, standing up and continuing the walk to the training room. "Now let's go make your best better."

"Right-o!" You say, striking Rosie's pose and following closely. "Ya thing Ah could mah mist like a smoke bomb? You can teach that to outsiders, right? The log trick?"

>"Yes. Indeed. A tatami performs better." The hero answers without hesitation, even sounding a bit happy that the previous topic has been dropped. "It's not much more than a PR trick for most, but I can show you if we have time after this, or tomorrow."
>>
Soon enough you move on from hurtful factoids to how best end a fight, with Edgeshot waving his arms in front of a football training dummy.

>"I'll admit that this is not my specialty. Forgive me." Is what the hero starts the lesson with, stretching his hand into a thin, sharp looking edge and stabbing the dummy between the scapula and the collarbone before pulling it out, leaving a tiny hole. "It's a common mistake of all heroes, starting to overly rely on one's quirk. Foldabody allows me to pinch arteries directly, ending a fight with minimal harm. Thus, I've not relied on these methods in years, but I hope I can teach teach them well enough."

Then, like a flash, he whips his lash arm at the side dummy's neck, then again at the other side, hitting a thin painted ring on the neck each time.

>"This is the easiest way to briefly incapacitate someone without direct access to their inner workings. A well placed hit between the muscles will short the victim's nervous system. Do it perfectly and they'll lose consciousness for up to a minute. Glancing hits can still drop them for a couple seconds or temporarily blind them. Of course, if you botch it badly enough it can do what any powerful blow to the neck does to a person." Edgeshot explains.

>"Dirt nap." Johai says with a nod, paying attention.

"Ooh, those are comfy if you get a good pile o' topsoil!" You add, getting a very weird glance. "'s a plant thing, ya wouldn't get it."

>"...Very well." The elder ninja says, with the kind of nod that every adult does when they don't understand something but don't want to dwell on it either. "A similar effect can be achieved by a strong, focused strike just under the ribs, just make sure to hit the right angle before the second push."

Unlike the previous example, this time he doesn't use his quirk, instead driving his fist an inch into the dummy in the specified area, then another inch or two.

>"Less chances of lasting harm and you don't need to be as precise, but you need to be in front of the victim. A good way to end a fight, but not start one. As far as I'm aware, the worst thing it can do without overwhelming force is causing the victim to lose control of their vowels or vomit. Both preferable to letting a fight drag on."

>"This week is meant to be a broad sampler of what professional heroes do." He then says, pointing up for some reason. "Don't expect a second lesson in this."

I also think Gut Buster is nice and easy to remember for it.

But:
>Make sure Tin gets good footage of the other move so you can learn it on your own time.

And if I may, I’ll advocate for Chest Buster as the move we’re learning now because, if you remember our fight against Bakugo, we had no trouble forcing him to attempt courage rolls (we deal plenty of damage), it was getting him to fail one that was the problem, and Chest Buster would fix that.

You stare at your hand for a few seconds, thinking about what would the best course of action be.

Johai, on the other hand, quickly raises his and swings at your neck, stopping about two inches away from your skin, checking the angle of his strike as he pulls his hand back, then slowly taps you in the area Edgeshot's dummy has marked. It... tingles.

>"The Seijin way is that of shadows and ambush tactics." He says, continuing to poke you in the side of the neck, distracting you a bit every time. "Without much time, I'll make sure to master the neck strike as best as I can."

"Same." You say, jabbing him under the ribs, softly, but with enough of a push to make him exhale.

>"...The neck one, Star." He reiterates, poking your's again.

"Yeah, that too." You answer, jabbing him again, but this time following it up with a forearm hit to the neck. Just a poke, but you like the fluidity of your movements so far. "Gonna get a handle on them both."

>"There's barely enough time to learn one properly." He remarks, then asks. "How are you planning on doing that?"

"If there's enough time to do one o' them..." You posit, walking closer to Edgeshot and the dummy. "Then Ah reckon there's time both!"

In an instant, you take to beating the stuffing out of the dummy, driving your palm under it's ribs and then pushing, followed by forcing its head sideways with a lariat.

>"That one is dead." Edgeshot points out. "If you are going to do it like that, keep your arm parallel to the ground."

Immediately, without pause, you try again, following your mentor's council.

"AH JUST 'AVE TO WORK TWICE AS HARD!" You bellow, adjusting your wrist to hit the right spot under the ribs, following it up by raising your arm and driving it into the side of the dummy.

>"Better, this one would make a full recovery in a few weeks." Edgeshot says, to which you just nod and take a step back.

"AGAIN!" You yell, throwing yourself into the task at hand again.

It's hours upon hours of work for both of you after someone brings a second dummy.
For every hit that Johai throws, you throw two. For every drop of sweat that runs down his face, two fall down your chin.

And by the time Edgeshot tells you to stop and sends you off to get lunch, Johai looks fairly tired. You feel like wrapping yourself in a blanket and emerge tomorrow.

But by the same token, lunch's a must.

"Free afternoon…" You mutter, looking down at your sweat soaked top. "...Gotta change, first."

Also, we should get Tin to learn these techniques too. If we tag-team with it to land a gut crush, then a chop off, (in the same round) it’s an auto-ko.

The good thing of staying at Edgeshot's place is that everyone who could see you drenched in sweat and nursing your aching body, surely looking and smelling like a bent over swamp willow, has already done so.

So it's without any shame that you drag your ass to the kitchen and shove your head into the cupboard, shuffling in without any consideration for Johai and his bowl of instant ramen.

You've smelled oil rigs more natural than that crap, but you aren't quite sure he can do better.

>"You look like a-" Johai tries say, but you beat him and his pointing chopsticks to the punch.

"Walkin' haybale, Ah kno'." You say after following your nose to the tea bags and biting on the nicest smelling one, pulling your head out of the cupboard with the packet between your teeth.

>"I was just going to say a mess." The ninja says, pausing to slurp his plastic noodles. "...More like, a mop at a cotton candy stand, really."

You take the packet off your mouth and throw it in a cup, taking a moment to stare at the boy behind you with the flattest deadpan look your tired eyes can muster.

"Thank ya." You say before turning back around and pouring some boiling water into the cup from a deceptively ancient looking electric kettle.

>"...Okay then." He replies, shrugging and continuing with his cheap noodles.

Were you less tired, you would have mused on the way it represents the entire building and concept of a modern hero ninja. Instead, you just brew yourself a cup of the most expensive tea you can find to soak your ass in.

Before going back to your room, you leave the cup aside and dig into the fridge, taking a bag of nice smelling red bean paste and one of four bread slices. All you really need.

>"Tea time for one?" Johai asks,

"Bath." You answer, taking your bag of pastry filling, bread and a fancy cup of tea to your room.

He says something else in a bewildered tone, but it doesn't sound important.

With your meal sorted out, you shuffle with it all to your room, planning to take it all to the bathroom right after.

"Tin!" You say upon seeing said robot staring at the pile you left your costume as. "Bathroom. Uh… bring mah phone too, would ya pal? Ah don't think Ah'll stand up inna while."

>"Of course mistress! Glad to be of use!" It says, speeding across the room on it's tiny treads in search for the item you asked it for.

Even as you set up your cup-bath, it still feels like your rest can't come soon enough.

As you try to put the cup down, to come to a terrifying realisation. Your back hurts...

Thus, you opt to grow the cup into a bathtub instead of your regular ritual of shrinking yourself.

Quickly stripping, you waste no time at all to get into the bath.

"Ah feel like Ah'm meltin' already…" You mutter, as soon as you get your toes inside the cup.
>>
One of the few good things of the japanese style of bathroom is that the slightly inclined floor and drain system means that you can splash as much as you like as you let yourself fall into the scalding liquid. Scalding, but relaxing nonetheless.

>"I've brought the phone!" Tin announces, holding it in it's three limbs at once, the phone being almost it's own size.

"Would ya mind checking mah texts?" You ask, letting your hands fall off the cup's edge. "...Ah kinda miss everyone, ya know?"

>"Sure thing mistress!" Tin answers, rolling over to your hanging hand and placing itself in your grasp. "If I may suggest so, I would be able to assist better at a larger size, mistress."

Not seeing any harm in it, you lazily channel mass back into the tiny robot, slowly stripping off the adjective.

Then the cold, metallic feel of its large fingers makes contact with your shoulders, cripping you tightly.

"Eep!" Is all you manage to say before Tin adjusts its grip, rolling its thumb on your back and pushing your tense back muscles. In a way, it feels like cracking your knuckles, slightly painful yet very relaxing. "Oh yeah, that's nice…"

>"Your personal messages are as follows…" Tin says, reading the messages in its unchanging childlike voice. "From Itsuka - Well, I screwed myself. How's your internship going? Yaoyorozu said you went with Edgeshot. Got to do anything interesting yet or are you stuck in merchandising hell too?

From Momo - Hello. How are you? Have you had any luck with on the field experience? Ours, as I've found Kendo from Class 1-B chose Uwabami's office as well, has been an enlightening one in the economics and business side of running a hero office.

From Shoto, along with a picture - Yo! Walker right? Take your chance soon, I'm not giving him back next time keIO90.

From Momma: How are you doing hun? Staying safe out there?

Pony - Error. I can't read the non-japanese script. There's also group texts from 'Classmates!' Do you want to hear those as well?"

All in all, lot's of texts.

It's warm and nice.

Not the scalding tea against your skin, but the feeling of having so many people that can spare a thought for you even when you aren't there.

It's not that you didn't expect to have a text from Momma or some of your friends, but every single one you hear of fills you with happiness and the reassurance that you made the right choice coming to Japan and getting to know the wonderful people you call friends.

Pony, your first friend in this strange land, oddly enough from your own homeland, innocent and eager to bring joy, whose text seems to be in english.

Momo, one of the smartest people you know, a close friend who has had to deal with quite a few of the same issues as you and treats you like an equal.

Itsuka, a cool girl all around that you've known since the entrance exam. Not being in the same class has kept your time together mostly limited to having lunch together, but you are always glad to take a seat at her table.

And Shoto, the cold and stoic boy you've been trying to help since the day you met him, whose every shadow-of-a-smile you could get out of him made you feel like you took a step in making the world a better place, even if it was just baby steps…

Which makes that text raise all kinds of alarms in your head.

"...Tin, sugar… Hand me mah phone, puh-lease." You slowly ask of your mechanical companion. "Ah… need to check some… stuff."

>"Was my reading inadequate?" Tin asks as its tail delivers the phone, holding it like a claw machine in front of your face.

"Don't be silly pal, you are great!" You quickly say snatching the phone out of its white claw, leaving the red camera in the middle looking at you.

Of course, having a camera pointed straight at you triggers an immediate response.
You stick your tongue out and blow a raspberry at Tin's tail-eye.

With that out of the way, you frantically claw at your phone to unlock the screen then go straight to your messages, to Shoto's.

As Tin had said, there's a picture attached to the text, a selfie of a masked girl pulling Shoto close for a hug, holding his phone high up with the other.

It feels- You sit on your cup-bath and stare at the picture some more.

Shoto looks… Like he does, really. Maybe a bit irate, or is it ...embarrassment? While most of your classmates and friends wear their emotions on their sleeves in an earnest attempt to connect with others, reading Shoto is like making out the serial numbers of a wet bill in a photo.

The girl is… hot. Literally flaming hot, with her hair being either on fire or made out of fire itself, looking at the camera and flashing a toothy smile with large, sharp fangs and the glint of a challenge in her eyes.

"Yo... Walker... Take your chance soon, I'm not giving him back next time ke... IO... 90." You read outloud, trying to make sense of it. "The fuck does this mean?!"

Maybe it's your friend's unease in the picture. Maybe it's the girl's fangs and fire in the picture.
>>
Whatever the reason, you don't like this picture, yet continue to stare at it some more.

>"Is everything alright, Mistress?" Tin asks after a couple minutes, grabbing your shoulders again and shaking you slightly.

"Ah have no idea." You say, taking the chance to close the conversation. Not knowing what to answer with, there's no point in looking at the picture more. "But Ah dun like this here pic here, Tin."

It's true, her smug mug mocked you.

You drag your thumb up and down the screen for another five minutes before settling in on answering the other messages, choosing to do so with your own two thumbs to burn some time and keeping yourself busy.

"Ah've been goin' on some patrols and kicked some smuggler's teeth in, ninja style. Also modeled for a toy… What's merchandising hell anyway?" You mutter before sending it to Itsuka, then add. "Still not gotten to getting that bike driver's licence BTW."

>"Perhaps next week?" Tin offers as it continues to roll its fingers on your back.

"Ah mean, Ah can't do it today, can Ah?" You point out, as the exam is only on wednesday mornings.

Moving on down your messages, you continue on to Momo's

"Cool! Ah been hitting the streets every night. Any rescue adventures from your end?" You reply. "...Would you happen to know what's merchandising hell?"

After that, you look at Pony's.

>"<Owie, my hoovesies hurt, like, I don't think I've run this much in like, my entire life!> Tired face <I hope yours is going better> Smiley face <. Regular office sounds nice now.> Sleeping face." You read Pony's text, feeling somewhat lost.

"Huh, weird." You comment with a nod.

>"I understood nothing." Tin clarifies, nodding nonetheless.

"Ah'll just ask her who's she internin' with." You mutter before doing so, adding a few details of your own experience and sprinkling it with the appropriate emoji. "Smiley… Cowboy… And done."

After that, you spend some time looking at the rather active groupchat.

>"Look who I found here!" One of the first texts says, along with a picture of Kirishima and Tetsutetsu flexing at the camera.

>"Tetanus?" Bakugo answered.

>"Close enough! What are you all doing?" Kirishima sends again.

>"Suffering." Says Mineta's reply.

>"Good." Kyoka simply answers.

A pic of Kyoka in costume, dirty and with a can of soda in hand, seemingly after a day of work with her mentor.

Mina just sending a short video of her sliding down a hill, avoiding some parked cars until she ends up slipping in a puddle, the video ending on a second of blue skies, a lone cloud and a groan.

Lots of small tidbits from your friends and classmates' lives these last few days, enough to get lost for some hours, until the sun sets, at least.
>>
Not much more though, as the moment you start to notice your tea getting cold and think of calling your mama, your phone starts blaring a painfully shrill alarm, making your ears hurt.

"WHAT THE FUCK!?" You unintentionally yell, dropping your phone in the cup as you try to cover your ears, accidentally lowering the noise level to a tolerable level.

>"Are you well?" Tin asks, its tail spinning around you to have a good look at your head.

"Ah think so...?" You say, rubbing your ears.

Having a second to look at the still blaring phone through the tea, you dip your hand in and bring it close to the surface, reading the text on the red screen.

"Multiple Category A Villains." The screen reads in flashing white letters, under the Hero Network logo. "Non-registered user, log-in for details."

Not being a professional hero yet, you tap the CANCEL button, making it shut up.

To say you are confused would be an understatement.
...Good to know your phone is waterproof though?

You quickly weight your options, not sure what you are supposed to do.

Quickly, as in less than a second. The good thing of having a constant fear of sudden attempts on your live is that you are always ready for action.

Holding on to your phone with one hand, you grab the edge of the cup with the other and hop off the cup, paying to mind to the creaking of your always lignifying joints and running back into your room, barely minding to grab a towel to wrap yourself in, quickly typing in a text for your mom.

"Alarms are ringing. Villains. I love you." You send in a hurry, before tossing your phone at the padded floor.

Figuring that a Professional Hero would know what to do about news from the Hero Network you dig into the open suitcase that contains your costume and pull out the horncap you asked Mei for, working as a booster for your transponder earpiece, along with the earpiece itself.

"Sir!? What's going on?" You ask the moment you get the earpiece to work.

>"Walker? How did you- Nothing… In Yokkaichi." The Hero answers, not lying, but clearly not telling you all there's to know.

"Sir, Ah’ll spare you the details of how but Ah just got a communication alert of multiple Cat-A villains." You tell him, making it clear you know something is going on. "Did ya perhaps get the same? Ah have the sense I should prepare...”

>"3 Category A Villains. That means 3 villains that must be stopped as soon as possible, willing and able to kill." Edgeshot says. "This is an internship, Walker. Taking you two into Hosu City, West Tokyo just to put you in mortal peril would be beyond irresponsible."

For some reason, that feels utterly disappointing.

"Are we not responding?" You ask, paying half a mind to keeping your towel on.

>"West. Tokyo." He reasserts. "By the time we get there, it'll be only clean up and damage control, neither of which are my specialties. There's an entire city block on fire, Walker, and preliminary intel suggests the culprits are three men eerily similar to the Nomu creature that attacked U.A. and you were barely awake last time I saw you. Do you really want to get into that?"

That would have made you shake in your boots, were you wearing any.

>What do you do?

1. We're interns. We're not supposed to be dragged to fight A tier villains. That's like making someone star in cirque du solei after their first day of trampolining class
2. The timelines don't add up. ES is fast. If he says we won't get there in time to help, we can't. and it's bad for him to waste his time leaving his district unguarded while he goes to ultimately lend moral support and move rubble, tasks that other, closer heroes are better at doing.
3. It's about respect. If we respect ES, we listen to his reasons why we can't go, and if we respect the heroes of west tokyo we have faith they can handle themselves.
>>
>>3925367

The fact that our super fast teacher is saying "Hey, we won't get there in time to help out." is a good point for listening to him.

1. We are not supposed to do a lot of things but that hasn't stopped us so far.
2. ES is fast, what does that have to do with anything? Are you dense?' He's not gonna carry us in his back, we'll go in a helicopter or something. And we've seen what a Nomu is capable of, and we don't know which heros will be taking them on, saying it'll be over was way too optimistic of ES. We don't even have to fight, Ushi can do many roles that CAN make a difference.
3.There's nothing disrespectful about defending our standards.

And we have a personal vendetta against the league of villains. We are super petty with Bakugo for the dumbest reasons, it makes sense for Ushi to go after the villains who almost killed her and her friends.
>>

Isn't this kind of the opposite? He wouldn't have given us the plot hook if he didn't want us to go. And honestly, I want some actual action going on, I'd rather take my chances with the Nomus and Stain than going rooftop running again with Edgeshot.

>>
>>3925458

I'll just have it fixed later.
>>
>>3925439
1. We are not supposed to do a lot of things, yes. but so is edgshot. and he has his licence to consider, and recklessly endangering a minor by purposely taking them into a situation theu are not ready for is going to have consequences
2. He said it would take too long. I don't think he doesn't understand the concept of helicopters enough to consider using one in his time estimate. Also, it's west tokyo. The capital city. It probably has the highest concentration of A+ heroes in the country, which ES would be aware of. If he says we likely will not be needed it's because in his (highly experienced) judgement, the available heroes at the location of the crisis would be sufficient
3. Think about it like with cops. If every cop tried to rush to every situation, everything would go to shit. Also, just because it's personal doesn't mean it's important. There's a time and place to defending standards, and it is not going half cocked on a fools errand.

Edgeshot is very knowledgeable but he isn't Nighteye, he can't tell the future. To you, it doesn't matter that you wouldn't make it in time.
What kind of hero would give up without even trying!?

...But you are here to see and learn, and if the 5th best hero of the country says you won't be of any help, you are inclined to believe him.

You are sure the fact that your entire skin is still crawling from hearing about the entire block on fire has nothing to do with it.

"Sir, It's yer office. We'll do what you think's best, but Ah had to tell you 'bout it." You say, sighing and unconsciously dragging you finger over your horn cap, feeling the rubbery wrap and the metal under your fingers, but not your fingers on the grooves of your horn. "It makes sense... No real reason to go when we would only be moral support…"

>"Worry not, I'm not trying to calm you down with empty words." Edgeshot tells you, sounding serious, as cool as ever." Western Tokyo is under Endeavor's protection. There's but two hands in the country I'd call more capable."

You aren't skipping out. No one will suffer for your absence. You are just unnecessary.

And that's... okay.

"Thanks Sir." You reply, somewhat relieved. "...Ah know Ah've been a tad unruly, and Ah'm truly thankful for yer patience and lettin' me run wild most of the time… If you say going would do nothin', Ah know it's really not gonna help anyone ." You confess, with a small hollow laugh. "...Nothing we can do, then?"

>"There's one thing you should do, Walker." The hero says after a brief silence.

"<Yessir>?" You ask enthusiastically. "Anything!"

>"Sleep, get some rest." He says, his tone "You are not coming on patrol tonight."

"...huh." You let out, trying to keep your emotions out of your voice. "...Will do."

And with that, it's over.

You let your hands fall down to your waist, as well as your towel and just go pick up your phone again, silently typing an amendment to your last text.

"Howdy. I'm not going anywhere near danger after all, sorry for the false alarm." You send to your momma. At least she hadn't read it yet.

That leaves you conflicted and with nothing to do.

Walking to the (thankfully tinted) window in your room, you stare at the city night as a civilian for the first time this week. While the night is still young, it feels far darker with the knowledge that something's going on nearly 200 miles away.

Shouldn't distract Shoto if he's doing heroics.

Maybe has a small self-pity cry since over-doing it for training and that outburst cost you a patrol night.

Having nothing else to look forward to for the rest of the night, you just sigh and stare at the moon for a minute.

Being a country girl in the middle of such a large city as Yokkaichi, you can't help but feel uneasy when looking at the night sky. Where do the stars go? Why is the moon all alone?

You then bring your hand up and pull on your own ear.

"Ow! That stings..." You mutter, letting yourself go.

For a second, the city beyond the glass doesn't matter. Instead, you look at your reflection on in, and breathe some steam into it.

Then you take your hand up to it and draw a smiley face unto your own, horns and all.
It's stupid and silly and completely ridiculous, but it's what you needed.

With a small giggle followed by a yawn, you kick your towel up and grab it in the air, ready to get back into your cup.

"Ah'm not makin' this into a pity party for one. Ah'll be back with mah pals soon enough!" You say, turning around and talking to your robot friend, flashing a smile, slinging your towel over your shoulder and walking back to the bathroom, stretching. "Ah'm goin' back to soakin', Tin. Maybe pray for 'em or somethin'... Ah dunno."

>"Would you need any assistance? I can help!" Tin offers, rolling up to you, then rolling by you side.

"Uh… Sure? That massage thing was helpin'." You answer, walking back to your cup-bath.

You were ordered to relax, and with God as your witness you will give your all to relaxing!

Thus, it's without any hesitation that you step into the cup and let yourself fall into the lukewarm tea, splashing all over the bathroom, with your only care being not to splash into Tin's head'wound'.

Tin itself takes a second to approach you and lay its hands on you shoulders, but its rough fingers still make a good match for your hard back.

The news isn't hard to find, rather, it's finding a live feed that takes you some time.

All the trains in Hosu are returning to station and not leaving again until the emergency is over. Important, but not what you were looking for.

Catastrophic fires consuming at least two blocks in the middle of Hosu City? That chills you to the heartwood, a good reason to scroll past it.

Endeavor first on the scene! You no longer like the man nearly as much as you did before meeting him, but the hero is still as efficient as they come.
>>
Eventually, you hit the right link, a noisy feed from a helicopter performing a flyover as a reporter tries to give a summary.

>"-ity… We can't confirm… -thing but it looked like known members of the League- ...Villains!" She says, your ears barely making out the words, not even all of them, yet you don't like any.

While the main image doesn't seem to show much, what you can see is harrowing.

People running away, flooding the streets. Nomu? No, not Nomu. Nomu had eyes… on his brain, but eyes anyway.

This one? No eyes. Or top jaw… In fact, you are glad when the cameraman points the camera to the top of the water tower and away from the Nomu-like's spilling brain nailed-to-his-lower-jaw-oh-god-stopthinkin'boutit!

The next figure you see on the screen does a great job at janking your mind away from the ugliest fucker you had ever seen. It may be tiny in your phone and with little augmentation from the cameraman, but you only know of one walking toothpick using severed human limbs as apparel. The classy fart next to him confirms it.

The guy atop the tower must be Shigaraki! This all must be the League of Villain's plan!

"HA!" You let out a crackle, throwing your head back for a short, guilty laugh. "Ah gotta thank Edgeshot!... Sorry… It ain't funny."

>"Why?" Tin asks behind you.

"Ah'm not there!" You say, pointing at your phone's screen and showing it to your robot buddy.

>"You have a message, Mistress." It replies, looking over your shoulder with its partly melted head.

"No Ah don-" You say, looking at the screen… Before a push up notification shows up. "...Yer cheatin'."

You tap it and let it open your texts hub.

A text from Deku? Not a chain, a single message.

"4-2-10 Ekou Street." You read. There's nothing else in the text.

Not over it, nor under it, not even after checking under your phone. Nothing…

You tap it and allow your navigation app to open, showing you that it's…

"Just a dead end in… Hosu." You say, not quite liking the scenarios your mind conjures.

Then you get another two messages.

From Kirishima, a full all-caps text… repeating Deku's text and adding "...THIS MIGHT BE IMPORTANT!"

>"You are the most important there is." Tin assures you, patting your head with its tail claw. It's more like being lightly hit with a book.

"...Thanks?" You answer, confused.

The other text is from Shoto.

"...The same text. Again." You mutter, looking at the info in and about the text.

Unlike Deku's and Kirishima's, his is just for y-you…

You yawn.

Despite the worries that your mind is starting to weave in your head, your body is not gonna let you do much more tonight, maybe tomorrow if you keep it up.

You stare at the texts, the explicit location and the implicit fact that you were the only recipient of Shoto's.

No idea what, but it has to mean something.

At the very least, it means he has his phone at hand.

With a couple taps on your screen, you call your friend, holding your phone against your ear, listening to the dialing tone until you can hear him answer.

"Howdy! What'cha doin' with Deku over there? Ya safe?" You blurt out, choosing speed over intelligibleness.

>"Hi. Not sure. Likely not." He answers with a background noise of rushing air that tells you he's either running or by the window of a moving vehicle.

While a part of you would like to believe the later, it's obviously the form-

"What? How come ya don't know?" You immediately ask, worried but somewhat glad that he's not just tusslin' with a villain at the moment. "What about the text y'all be sendin' out, ya don't know what Deku's text meant either?"

>"I am not sure, but I have a theory." Shoto replies, clearly still running. "Midoriya is a kind and smart guy, but he is anything but outgoing. If he is sending a text to all of us with no explanation… I believe he is in trouble."

"And you're gonna go lend a hand? Ya know that's most likely one of Nomu's kin, right?" You tell him.

>"Would that change what I need to do?" He retorts. "If I am wrong, father will be mad, if not, I could be of vital assistance."

"Yeah, of course… Just…" You say, briefly struggling to find the right words. "...Be safe."

>"I cannot promise that." He simply answers. "It's why I sent that text to you. Were anything to happen, I would like you t-"

The sound of rubber against pavement, of a sudden stop, is the last you get to hear before the call dies.

"Sugah?" You ask with fleeting hope.

But beep… beep… beep it goes.

You pull your phone away from your ear and stare at it with purpose. You aren't there to support him, but you know one guy who is, and should have been supporting him for the last decade and a half.

You had never used that number for anything, but Momma was insistent on you having it…

Thus, you send your first text to Endeavor himself, consisting of the same text Deku sent along with an annotation of your own.

"Hurry up. At least once try to be there for Shoto." You send, full of venom and spite.

For anyone to hurt their family for their own benefit is still amongst the worst things you can think of, right next to hurting a child. And this man did both.

There's not much to your night after that, just a little relaxing in Tin's company, as it didn't take you long before you were having problems keeping your eyes open, quickly drying yourself, throwing on the shirt you call pajamas and hitting the hay.

You couldn't say it was a good night, but it wasn't awful either.

You wake up to your phone, no longer feeling tired, but with your shirt and sheets stuck to your skin, as if you worked up a sweat on your sleep.
>>
"<Wha…>" You let out, wiping the drool off the corner of your mouth and flailing around in the futon, clawing for your phone.

>"Here, mistress." Tin's voice says.

Taking care of the sleepy sand in your eyes and opening them to a new day, you are greeted by Tin's red main camera, the massive robot looming over you at full size and holding your phone in its hand.

"Thanks pal!" You say, taking your phone and giving the damaged robot a few pats on the head. Being awkward to hug, that's the best you can do.

Looking at your phone, your heart sinks.

The full bar of text notifications isn't worrisome, nor it's the call from your mama by itself, but the fact that you have 21 missed calls from her toois.

Taking a second to swallow, you bite the bullet and answer.

>"Ushi?" She asks as soon as you tap the little green button.

"Howdy?" You greet her, not sure what else to say.

>"Are you okay? Ah heard the news 'bout Hosu and saw your text and Ah think Ah almost had a stroke!" She says, her voice jittery for a second, before taking a deep breath and continuing in a slightly calmer, but a lot more collected tone. "Don't you go worrying me like that again! Ah saw you retracted that a minute later, but that's also what a mugger would do! Ah spent all mornin' thinking 'bout what had happun'd to ya!"

"Sorry... Ah thought We'd go help out, but turns out we weren't anywhere near Hosu City, so Edgeshot said it'd be dangerous for no reason!" You try to explain yourself, flailing your arms as you speak as if you were one of your classmates. "Ah was too tired… So Ah just went to bed early..."

There's a moment of silence, broken a few seconds later by your mother's a sigh of relief.

>"Sorry hun, Ah just heard that there were some student interns amongst the injured of the attack and thought ya had gone and gotten yourself a maulin' again…" She says, her tone echoing her worries.

For all of 30 seconds.

>"Good thing Endeavor was there to save 'em! He even captured the Hero Killer and one of his League of Villain mooks! Ah dunno why he didn't burn their heads off too though…" She comments, sounding like a smitten fangirl half her age. "Maybe they knew somethin'..."

"Wait, hol' up, someone was hurt?" You ask, feeling your heart drop somewhere near your small intestine. "...The Hero Killer was there too!?"

>"Yeah, Ah heard he almost got a pro and a couple interns before Endeavor saved them! No one was in grave or critical condition though." She tells you. "Ah mean, not countin' the minor scuffs on civilians and the millions in damages..."

"Ah… M-may Ah call you later?" You utter, whelmed.

>"Sure! Just don't forget of your ma, hun!" She replies. "And try to send longer texts, Ah mah heart is still tryin' to find back it's rythm..."

With a click, the call ends and you no longer have any idea of what to do.
