he Lighthouse War is over, but conflict still continues.

With Erusea's defeat at the hands of the Osean Federation and the International United Nations, the imperial nation has splintered into a confusing mess of separatists, freedom fighters, warlords, rogue military factions, and those seeking to profit from the chaos. Worse, Erusea's many automated drone factories still remain intact, waiting for new masters to come to claim them.

The Usean continent remains in crisis, and it's up to a new generation of pilots to face this next generation threat...

You are MILLY, the "Red Tail", a Belkan Air Force pilot fighting for the IUN!

"Jeez, you're always full of surprises, huh?" Mead nearly cackles as she oversees her crew very VERY carefully offloading the Wyvern wreck from the cargo plane.

"Well, it would be boring otherwise, huh?" You chuckle. "You sure the IUN won't ask any questions?"

"They've already written off the wreck as completely unsalvageable." Mead shrugs. "As far as they're concerned, it's just junk."

"Unsalvageable?" You raise an eyebrow.

"To a regular mechanic, yeah." Mead gives a smug wink. "Just another day in the park for the Scrap Queen."

"You need anything special for it?"

"Oh, most definitely." Mead nods. "I'll have to do a proper inspection to figure out all the parts we'll need to scrounge up."

"Sure. Let me know if I can help with anything." You grin.

"Well, one thing." Mead frowns as she points to the drone equipment in the second seat. "Have you noticed anything odd about the plane? I know that damn old man had an AI on board. Is it still running?"

Well, it didn't actually feel right not being truthful to Mead. Plus it was always bad luck to lie to your crew chief, no matter who they were. As Bandit had warned you, it would always come back to bite you in the ass sooner or later.

"Well, actually, I think it might still be working." You say a bit sheepishly as you reveal the hard drive.

"Shit, really?" Mead raises an eyebrow. "That's a bit surprising, honestly."

"You're not afraid?" You blink. "Or angry?"

"As long as it ain't flying planes or making my coffee, I could care less what it does." Mead shrugs. "Besides, if I remember what damn old man said exactly, it was a support AI anyways. Nothing illegal about that."

That's not really the issue i feel. Even if the thing isn't illegal, it's still extremely rare and valuable. Announcing that qe have one is a safety issue. "Good point." Mead nods. "If you need any help, you know where to find me."

And with that, Mead returns to her job of getting all your planes serviced, leaving the Wyvern wreck to the side for the moment. She didn't have the parts to work on it anyways.

Actually, now that you think about it, this was the first time you've been on Fort Grays proper. Maybe it couldn't hurt to take a little look around and familiarize yourself with the place.

Well, you might as well go see what the other pilots had been up to while you were gone, particularly Sofia and the Orpheus pair.

And, well, the first place to check would be the base's club. Being on a relatively isolated island, it was probably the only watering hole for hundreds of miles around, so it had to be a popular hangout for the other pilots.

Then again, pilots and alcohol almost never mixed well. Who knows what you would encounter in unfamiliar territory...

As you step in, you immediately notice something was... off.

You could see Sofia and the Orpheus pair, sure. But they were off sitting in separate booths, since most of the bar was apparently taken up by...

Osean pilots.

Fuck, that's right. Fort Grays is an Osean base that's only been loaned to the IUN. That mean the majority of the pilots, of course, would be Osean. And from the patches, it looked like there were at least two different squadrons worth of them, too.

Shiiiiiit.

What a day to be wearing your own flightsuit with your Belkan patches clearly visible.

Fortunately, they hadn't quite seemed to have noticed your presence just yet.

"Well, what do we have here?" You hear a voice sneer. "Looks like the local Belkan finally decided to show her face!"

"Stand down, Elk." You hear a much older, more grizzled voice that reminded you of Bandit. Most likely one of the squadron leaders, you assume. "You had one too many to drink."

"You don't understand!' Elk growls, his voice getting louder and louder. "You heard the news, right? It was the damn Belkans giving Erusea all their drone tech! If it weren't for cowards like them, Skeleton Squadron might still be alive! Brownie might be-"

"Stand. Down." The other voice says grimly.

Well you weren't about to take these accusations lying down! Your honor as both a pilot and a Belkan were at stake!

At this point, most of the other non-Osean IUN pilots are starting to turn their attention to the this little confrontation, including Sofia and the Orpheus pair. Looks like a scene was already starting to heat up.

You quickly pivot on your foot, focusing the gaze on the pilot you assume to be Elk, the meanest and drunkest looking of the lot that you could identify.

Probably thanks to the drink in him, Elk's first move was a tad slow, giving you a few seconds to react as he lunges from his bar seat directly at you. That left you with an option or two.

You could just step aside and let his momentum carry him forward into whatever happened to be behind you. It would be a bit funny to see but it probably would just make him angrier and more aggressive. Or, you know, you could always just try straight up knocking his ass out.

The pilot, Elk, continues onwards as you step aside, and his head bonks into a table leg, causing him to writhe on the ground in pain. His fellow squadronmates don't get angry, thankfully. They all just laugh and jeer at his clumsiness.

"Quick moves, Belkan." The apparent squadron leader grins. "Don't mind Elk, he's just a real ass when he gets one too many drinks in him."

"Um, yeah, okay." You nod awkwardly as you shuffle over towards Sofia. At the very least, it seems you've earned the passing respect of the other Oseans. The bartender breathes a loud sigh of relief, clearly glad the bar wasn't going to be wrecked in a brawl.

"I see you're popular as always." Sofia chuckles as you sit across from her. "It's good to see you doing well. Bandit was oh so worried sick about you the whole time you were gone!"

"Well then, tell me all the sordid details then!" You grin, leaning forward on the table. "What get you two together? What split you two apart? I seriously have to know!"

"Hm, well, the getting together part was easy." Sofia chuckles. "You remember how I told you that we both shot each other down, right? Well, we bailed out safely, but the border area between Belka and Sapin is mostly wilderness. It took two weeks for search parties to find us and that... gave us a lot of free time!"

"Free time, huh?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Oh, this was ages ago. We were both young, and rebellious!" Sofia smiles nostalgically. "Bandit was wildly aggressive, both in the air and on the ground!'

"Wait, are you saying BANDIT was the one that made the first move on you?" Your jaw drops.

"Well, that's a very broad way to put it, but... yes. You could say that." Sofia giggles.

"Hmmm, well, perhaps after a proper refill then. A raunchy story like this is no good when you're sober!" Sofia grins, waggling an empty shot glass in front of you.

Oh, this clever bitch.

"Fine, fine..." You groan as you dig for your wallet.

"Ah! That's the stuff!" Sofia laughs as she downs another shot of tequila. "So where were we? Right! Me and Bandit!'

You then lean forward, eager to hear the rest of the story.

"So there the two of us are, shot down and in the middle of nowhere." Sofia continues her story. "And unfortunately, my chute just happened to be tangled in a tree, which... left me in a rather compromising position~."

"You somehow make it sound really naughty." You frown.

"Oh, I was completely tangled up in my parachute and completely helpless! At the absolute mercy of any Belkan barbarian that would come across me!" Sofia explains with mock distress.

You almost try imagining it, but wisely decide not to. You don't want to be making yourself look like a fool here.

"I suppose you were lucky it was Bandit then." You observe, keeping your cool.

"Indeed, indeed!" Sofia laughs as she pours another shot tequila, getting a bit more rowdy with every drink. "He helped me down and we both decided to work together to set up a camp and wait for rescue. It... took much longer than we anticipated."

"Idle hands and all that?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Well, when two very young hotshot pilots are stuck in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do! We started off arguing and bickering, accusing each other of whose fault it was and who shot the other down first. And then things hit a rather heated moment..." Sofia trails off suggestively.

Unfortunately, that tequila was pretty damn strong, so you missed out on a lot of the exact details of what went on, your head being a swirl of perverted imagery and thoughts. You just couldn't focus on what Sofia was specifically saying until the very end.

"And when the rescue team finally found us, they were afraid I had broken my legs when I couldn't stand up!" Sofia wheezes

"So I guess Bandit's pretty good out of the cockpit too." You mumble, your face flushed red as your hair.

"He's a natural, that much i can tell you!" Sofia laughs.

"So you two carried it on?"

"For a couple more years, yeah." Sofia nods, her expression now a bit sobered up. "Ah, but it wasn't mean to be, I suppose."

"What happened then?" You were still curious, even if your head was still spinning.

"He lost his wingman in a training exercise." Sofia frowns. "From what I heard, the investigators couldn't find anything wrong with the plane. It just... nosedived straight into the ground. They concluded it was a suicide. Bandit was never the same, since."

Wait, did something like that really happen? Well, Bandit had been in the air force far longer than you, so it wouldn't be surprising he flew with other wingmates before you came along. Still, this was the first time you heard of it. Usually people talked about accidents like that.

"That's what I heard happened, at least." Sofia shrugs and sighs. "And he just changed so quickly, like a child being forced to grow up overnight. And we went our own separate ways ever since."

Sofia then downs two shots in quick succession.

"I dunno, that sounds shady as hell." You grumble.

"Well, I can't pretend to know what the Belkan Air Force does behind its closed doors." Sofia sighs as she leans back in her seat, letting her chest pop out a bit much to your mild chagrin. "But pilots committing suicide is a very rare thing, especially in peacetime. There's probably more to the story, but only Bandit would know."

Jeez, you were almost starting to think that Bandit's existence itself was some kind of conspiracy, given all the mysteries swirling around him. He might as well be a walking enigma.

"Still, it doesn't change the fact that he's still a big softie." Sofia continues. "He's certainly gone out of his way to look out for you. I wish he showed me half as much attention!"

"I guess I can't complain." You mumble, shifting your gaze away from Sofia.

There's a brief pause before Sofia chuckles, leans forward, and ruffles your hair.

"Ahaha, you're so damn adorable! No wonder Bandit guards you so jealously!"

"Gah! Quit it!" You wail.

"Heh, well I think I've drunk my fill, so I'm heading out." Sofia slowly gets up to her feet, staggering just a bit. "Don't be making trouble for Bandit all right? I'd hate for him to start picking up wrinkles on his face!"

"Yeah, yeah." You roll your eyes.

Sofia gives a sloppy smiles and moves past the gathering of Osean pilots, drawing many gazes and a few catcalls, which she humors with a sly wink before taking her leave.

Still a bit buzzed from your drinking with Sofia, you smugly saunter over to where the Orpheus pair were sitting at. They were more laid back, drinking beer rather than any sort of hard liquor. However, given how professional they were, it wasn't surprising they wouldn't as free wheeling as Sofia.

"Heeeeeeey, how are you two doing?" You grin, the partially full bottle of tequila you bought for Sofia still in your hands. "I'm baaaaaack!"

"Unfortunately." Alanna shakes her head.

"Jeez, that's cold, Alanna." You playfully chastise her.

"Ah, don't listen to her, she was totally worried about you!" Angela laughs warmly. "Anyways, what brings you here?"

"Well, I was gone for a while. I just wanted to get caught up on things." You shrug.

"Heh, so what do you want to know, then?" Angela smiles as she gently cradles a beer bottle in her hand.

"So, the Osean pilots here haven't been giving you too much trouble, have they?" You ask, nodding towards the big bunch of them at the bar.

"Oh, Golem and Mage Squadrons? They're all right." Angela chuckles. "They're all Lighthouse War veterans, too, so you can count on them to pull their weight!"

"I hate to admit it, but even we sometimes have trouble keeping up with them." Alanna mutters.

"Guess it's that whole Belka bias thing, then." You grumble.

"I mean, your people seem to do a great job constantly reminding everybody why they shouldn't be trusted." Alanna points out bluntly. "The Belkan War, the Gray Men, One Belka, supplying weapons to Estovakia and Erusea..."

"Yeah, yeah, I get it." You groan. "Is that it?"

Well, you had to admit. She wasn't exactly wrong there.

"Well, in either case, they're mostly harmless." Angela assures you. "That Elk guy is a replacement. Hasn't been around as long as the others, so I'm guessing he was just posturing to try and earn cred with the vets."

"He sounded pretty serious to me." Alanna shrugs.

"Yeah, he did sound pretty serious about it." You nod, in rare agreement with her.

"Wait, isn't that a Belkan noble family?" You blink. The von Eistwalds weren't the largest or most prominent of the Belkan noble families, but they were still nobles, which made them a big deal in Belkan society.

In fact, you had heard the von Eistwalds weren't around anymore, having disappeared after Ustio broke away from Belka. In fact, the von Eistwald lands would have been where Ustio is...

"So you've actually survived all this time, huh?" you muse.

"Kinda." Angela grunts. "Back then, the family threw in with the Ustians when they seceded. Decided that their oath to protect the people superseded loyalty to Belka. I know it sounds like we're traitors-"

"You're not?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Look, we were following the will of the people. Simple as that." Angela sighs. "If something as noble as that makes us traitors then I'll gladly wear that badge."

>Sorry, I don't want to accuse you of anything.

"That's something we have in common." You nod as you place a reassuring hand on Angela's shoulder. "Don't worry, I won't judge you for that."

"Huuuuuuh, that's pretty surprising!" Angela laughs. "I figured you were gonna try and disown me like everyone else back home in Belka did! Guess they don't like talking about us much, right?"

"Well, I guess not." You shrug. "Not a conversation I heard much, but I'm just a regular commoner, you know?"

"A proper peasant, you are!" Angela giggles as she pinches your cheek.

You were going to say something to counter that, but you figure Angela was too drunk to really understand anything you would say anyways, so you don't bother.

>So then what was your family doing during the Belkan War?

"So then what was your family doing during the Belkan War?" You wonder.

"Hunted down. Weren't exactly popular with the sitting government back then." Angela grumbles. "The ones that weren't killed or arrested scattered to the four winds. The von Eistwalds are a shadow of their former selves these days."

Angela then lets out a big yawn.

"Well, I am extremely beat. Guess we can... talk later..." Angela trails off as her eyes close.

And just like that, shes out cold like Alanna.

Well, you certainly learned some new things about Orpheus, that's for sure.

At this point, the Osean pilots have already dispersed, meaning you could freely leave the bar with little fear of harassment. You take your leave, wondering what your next mission was going to have in store for you.

>And that's it for tonight! Due to some plans, I will not be able to run next weekend, so the next thread will be delayed to November 22!

It'll be funny if all the Belkan pilots in this quest were Char Clones in one form or another.

See you in two weeks!
