The Lighthouse War is over, but conflict still continues.

With Erusea's defeat at the hands of the Osean Federation and the International United Nations, the imperial nation has splintered into a confusing mess of separatists, freedom fighters, warlords, rogue military factions, and those seeking to profit from the chaos. Worse, Erusea's many automated drone factories still remain intact, waiting for new masters to come to claim them.

The Usean continent remains in crisis, and it's up to a new generation of pilots to face this next generation threat...

You are MILLY, the "Red Tail", a Belkan Air Force pilot fighting for the IUN!

Your heart stops at the sight of the Raven, the same one that had nearly shot you down just a scant few weeks ago. The thing looked and flew just as inhumanly as you remembered it, like some sort of alien craft than anything forged by the hands of humans.

"I-It's back!' Vicky yelps. "W-w-what do we do?!"

"We have to protect Red, of course!" Misono cries.

"Raven Team, the ground teams have informed me that they've recaptured the base's air defense systems. Lure that bogey in and they can provide fire support." Bandog announces.

"But the surrendering planes haven't all landed yet." Bandit points out. "They might get caught in the crossfire!"

"They're convicts and worse, fugitives who were trying to shoot you down minutes ago." Bandog retorts. "Are you really going to risk your own squadron to look out for them?"

"We can take the fight to the open water." Bandit counters. "The Raven won't have any cover out there and we can overwhelm it once Orpheus, Mage, and Golem can link up."

"If you survive." Bandog observes bluntly.

"Boss, we can totally do this!" You assure Bandit.

There's a brief pause, but Bandit finally replies.

"Agreed. Raven Squad, fall in around Red and back her up."

"All right!" You grin as you hit your Su-47's afterburner yet again, boosting out towards the open water.

"The bogey is confirmed vectoring after you, Raven Squadron." Bandog reports. "Orpheus is en route, too. Golem and Mage are also redirecting planes with spare fuel and munitions, but they're at least five minutes out."

"Simple enough!" Misono laughs, "With Orpheus we can-"

"Warning! Updated threat assessment!" Bandog barks. "multiple drones are also vectoring to your position, at least three squadrons!"

"That Raven must be directing them." Bandit growls. "Looks like it got wise to the numbers issue."

"Boss! Boss! Hey, let us fly with you!"

"What?" You blink as you glance at your radio. That was coming from... one of the penal fighters?!

"We got no love for those damn drones, either!" The penal pilot continues. "You're our Boss, now! We'll fight for you!"

"Get off this channel and go back to your cells, convict!" Bandog says angrily.

"Come on, Bandog, give them a chance!" You speak up. "Right now, numbers are something we need!"

"They were ALREADY given a chance." Bandog grunts in annoyance. "Fine. You convicts can consider this your final chance at atonement for your crimes."

There's much cheering and whoops and yells over the radio as a blob of friendly contacts suddenly appear on the radar, slamming into the flanks of the drone swarm. Oudated MiG-21s and F-4s brawl with the robotic planes in a massive, undisciplined furball, but they succeed in tying up the majority of the drones.

Still, the Raven had easily a squadron's worth of MQ-101s at its disposal and they stuck close like flies. Orpheus was starting to come up from the rear, but it was still going to be a nasty fight.

"Everyone, focus on taking out the drones! Strip away the Raven's cover!" Bandit barks. "Red, it'll likely be coming after you to stay sharp!"

"I got, I got it!" You yelp as your missile warning siren whines.

Meanwhile, the other Ravens and Orpheus dive into the mass of drones, firing off missiles and forcing the automated craft to scatter, breaking up their formation and making individual drones more vulnerable.

But the Raven remained unfazed, blast past your wingmates and continuing to come after you.

You decide that it was worth playing a bit cautious in this situation. You immediately bank away from the main furball, staying out of the sights of the escorting drones as the Raven makes an attack run at you. Its nose flashes blue as azure energy bolts fly out in an attempt to hit you.

The damn thing has pulse lasers too, huh?

You could try to make a power climb for the clouds higher up, which would render the Raven's lasers pretty useless. However, that would leave you vulnerable for a few critical seconds as you tried to gain altitude.

Alternatively, you could try to goad the Raven into a defensive scissors duel, forcing it to bleed off energy that one of your squadronmates or even Orpheus could jump in to tag it.

However, it seemed the Raven was just a bit too slow to react to your powerclimb. Pulse laser bolts fly past your canopy, but you reach the safety of the clouds quick enough, and the blue energy bolts diffuse harmlessly against the heavy water vapor.

However, even with its close combat weapon neutralized, the Raven continues to charge forward into the clouds after you. That caught you a bit off guard. Was it seriously going to try and brawl you with missiles?

You see sparks and then a burst of orange light within the clouds. Signs that you definitely hit something important. Maybe an engine or something!

"Watch your back! The drones are all converging directly on you!" Bandog warns over your comms. "They're completely disregarding everything else!"

Sure enough, your radar was showing every single drone in the area was beginning to make a beeline directly to your position at full speed, regardless of whether that put them in the crosshairs of the other pilots. However, even as they were getting shot down in droves, at least a good number of them were going to break through.

Meanwhile, your radar was showing the Raven losing altitude quick. Too fast for an unpowered and uncontrolled crash. More like a deliberate dive.

You burst out of the clouds and finally get a visual. Sure enough, it looked like your cannons scored a hit on one of the Raven's engines, its left nacelle leaking ugly black smoke. Looked like it was attempting to boost away on its one engine while the drones were forming a rearguard to run down anybody trying to pursue it.

The closest threats were a flight of four drones just starting to get into missile range. Right behind them though was Orpheus Team, with both Alanna and Angela trying to catch them. But there was no guarantee they'd be able to down all the drones before they could get a shot off at you.

Trusting that Orpheus could handle the drones, you put your focus on pursuing the Raven. Even with a single engine, the thing was still ungodly fast, and it had taken advantage of the cloud cover to get a headstart on you.

Even though your engines were already ailing from all the times you pushed it to maximum power, you hit your afterburners again, determined to catch up to the Raven.

However, just as you pull the trigger, you notice something odd. Its weapons bay doors open as it belches out every missile in its hold directly downwards. Over a dozen missiles slam into the water directly beneath it and explode, creating a massive wall of water between you and it. Having come in so close to get into gun range, you have no choice to break away.

"Shit!" You yell in frustration as you pull up and away from the wall of water.

Unfortunately, as the water vapor clears away, the Raven is just a speck in the distance, having successfully shaken you.

"Bogey has left the combat airspace. No threats remain." Bandog confirms.

"Firing all its weapons like that, that's a pretty damn ballsy move." Angela whistles. "Hard to believe an AI would think of something like that."

"Well, I'm still flying, aren't I?" You laugh.

"Looks like the Raven escaped." Bandit observes simply as his Eagle comes down from above. "That thing is definitely a piece of work."

"The pinnacle of Erusian engineering, after all." Misono says calmly. "But with that damage it sustained, I suspect we won't be seeing it again for some time."

"Assuming they don't have spares." Alanna remarks.

"Now THAT, we definitely don't need." Angela grumbles.

"What's going to happen to them?" You ask cautiously.

"Why would you care? They're only convicts." Bandog grunts.

"Let's just say I'm curious." You huff. "Humor me."

Each convict's case will be reviewed, and if necessary, new charges will be filed against them, which may extend their already considerably long prison terms." Bandog explains.

"And what do the get for helping us out against the Raven?" You ask.

"That well be factored into the consideration on sentencing." Bandog grunts. "What's with this sudden interest in the Osean military justice process?"

"I'm just a bit curious, that's all." You say in the most casual tone you can manage. "You got a problem with that?"

Though, deep down, you did kinda hope they'd be okay, despite their admittedly poor life choices.

"Of course not." Bandog says in agreement. "Raven, Orpheus, have a safe trip back."

And with that, you and you squadron make your way back to Fort Grays. Along the way, you keep mentally replaying the brief battle you had fought against the Raven. Even though the actually fight lasted barely a few minutes, it always felt like an eternity when you looked back on it.

However, you were determined to get answers about this mysterious rival of yours. Whatever it takes...

You groan as you wake up from bed, seemingly every muscle and nerve in your body screaming in protest as pain shoots through your body. Not too surprising, given all the Gs were you pulling from the constant afterburner use in the previous battle. Bandit had practically ordered you to stay in bed for the next couple of days to recover.

Well, you could actually get around without collapsing into a heap, but your squadronmates had gotten used to regularly check on you, and they could freak out if they didn't see you in bed.

You're still a bit too sore to move around just yet, so you decide to just stay put. You take out your phone and browse through it for any news. Looks like the work your squadron had been doing on this end of Erusea was starting to catch some attention. Apparently, those bandits had been causing lots of problems for everyone, and they were infinitely glad something was finally being done.

Naturally, only the Belka-based news organizations were actually crediting Raven Squadron. Most others only just vaguely mentioned the squadron in passing, while a lot of Osean affiliated sites didn't even mention your squadron at all. It sucked, but it honestly wasn't that surprising.

However, it looked like things were still not going good on the western side of Usea. Erusea was now cracking down even harder on the separatist states. A few had been forcibly reunified, but much of the stronger and more defiant regions like Shilage were still holding out. Naturally, there was international condemnation of the heavy handedness of Erusea's response, but nobody was about to start another war over that.

Your browsing is then interrupted by a knock on the door. Turns out, it was...

"Oh, hey Boss." You grin as Bandit carefully makes his way in. "Guess it's your turn today, huh?"

"Something like that." Bandit nods as he take a seat next to your bed. "How are you feeling?"

"A bit sore, but I'm fine otherwise." You shrug.

"That's good." Bandit glances at you. "I know you like pushing your body's limits. Just don't do it too often, or it will have really negative effects for you down the line."

Your mind suddenly flashes to Mihaly in his wheelchair, his body ruined by years of extreme G forces and high altitude radiation.

You sorta hope you don't turn out like that. Maybe Bandit had a point there.

"Anyways, I'll life the order keeping you benched. I think you're fine to start moving around. Vicky and Misono will be glad to see that." Bandit gives a slight grin. "Anyways, I need to head out to file a report, unless you've got something you want to talk about?"

"So, did we learn anything new about the Raven?" You ask.

"Not much, I'm afraid." Bandit shakes his head. "We had search teams combing the surrounding waters, but we couldn't find any wreck or any other evidence of a crash."

"It can't have gone far on one engine, even if it has super engineering." You frown.

"That was Mead's conclusion as well." Bandit says in agreement. "That's actually opened up an interesting, but troubling possibility."

"Which is?" You raise an eyebrow.

"That the Raven is operating from a camouflaged, mobile carrier platform." Bandit says grimly.

"But you said there's nothing out there." You point out. "Where could they- wait."

Now it comes back to you. That automated drone submarine that you had helped hunt down. Was it possible that-

"There's the possibility that the Raven is operating from a submersible carrier." Bandit confirms. "The Eruseans already had an operational version of that concept in the Alicorn-class submarine. It's not out of the question that similar type exist out there."

"Then what are doing? Let's go hunt that bastard down!" You grunt.

"Assuming we even know where it is, we can't go off acting on our own like that." Bandit shakes his head. "We're already getting orders to redeploy to a new theater now that the majority of the escaped penal pilots have been apprehended."

"And I only just got here." You grunt in annoyance.

"Don't worry, it's going to take a few more days for everything to be processed. Think of it as having a little vacation on a tropical island." Bandit pats your shoulder. "We've still got eyes out looking, so I'll let you know if we find anything new."

Well that was just freaking great.

"Well, I need to be going. Stay out of trouble, Red." Bandit says as he gets up and takes his leave, gently closing the door behind him.

You instantly see Mead toss a small wrench at you, which you're able to duck out of the way just in time.

"What the heck was that for?!" You cry.

"Because of THAT." Mead scowls as she points to a pair of jet engines sitting on a cargo pallet. They looked absolutely ruined, charred black and partially melted as if someone had set fire to them. "Guess whose engines those are?"

"Um, mine?" You answer meekly.

"You're damn right they are!" Mead grunts. "Not even when I was in Spare Squadron did I ever see anybody wreck their own engines this hard! And they were brand new, too!"

"I'm really sorry if it made extra work for you-"

"It's not the work I'm worried about, it's you!" Mead groans. "Engine wear like this means you're pulling serious Gs, aren't you? You must have been on afterburner that entire mission!"

"Um, kinda, yeah." You admit.

"Look, I'm no expert pilot, so I'm not exactly in a position to complain, but I don't want you turn into another Mihaly, all right? Just one of him is annoying enough to manage!"

"Well, that's a refreshing change of pace from the other pilots I've met." Mead sigh. "None of them could ever cop to making a mistake. Anyways, I think I do have something that may help."

Mead then reaches over to a crate and holds up what looks to be a black flightsuit.

"It's a fancy new G-suit a buddy of mine is developing. It's supposedly twice as effective as the current ones on the market, but they aren't in mass production yet. I can work some magic to get one your size, but I'd have to pause work on the Wyvern for that.

"So how is it fixing up the other fighters, then?" You ask.

"Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay easier, that's for sure." Mead rolls her eyes. "They don't wreck their fighters in the space of a single mission."

"Ha ha." You sigh.

"But in all seriousness, I guess the one who puts the most stress on her bird is Misono. Her whole warrior's fighting spirit thing means she's just as reckless as you are. Though, she can't quite go overboard since she's still rolling in an F-2, so its movements are still a bit limited."

"Makes sense." You nod. "And Bandit and Vicky?"

"I can tell they're either very careful, or actually respect the planes they're flying." Mead grins. "The wear and tear on their birds is shockingly low. I know for a fact that Bandit knows his own plane inside and out. Can figure out when he can push the airframe or just lay it back. Vicky though, is a bit more difficult for me to figure out..."

You calmly step into Vicky's room, where you finally see her completed computer. It looked like any other laptop, honestly, but you knew it was so much more than that.

"Hell yeah, let's turn this thing on!" You grin.

"Okay, but um, just a word of warning, we have no idea what condition the AI is in." Vicky gulps. "I mean, the hardware is intact enough, but there might be some internal damage that we haven't been able to see."

"Well, we won't know until we see for ourselves, right?" You point out.

"O-of course!" Vicky agrees as she carefully presses the power button....

The computer hums to life and the screen winks on. You see lines of startup code flash on the screen. The screen then goes black as it goes into a command prompt style window.

<ERROR>

<ERROR>

<PROGRAM CANNOT START DUE TO DATA CORRUPTION>

<SYSTEM RESET RECOMMENDED Y/N?>

"System reset?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Uh oh." A bead of sweat runs down Vicky's brow. "It looks like the hardware is workable, but there's something wrong with the software code."

"Obviously." You frown. "But what's this system reset thing?"

"Because the code is corrupted, the system is recommending we set it back to its factory default state." Vicky explains. "It will likely get the AI working again, but we'd lost any data it had acquired."

"Is there any way around it?" You wonder.

"U-um, I can try fiddle with the code, but I'm really just an amateur in that field." Vicky bites her lip.

"Damn, I guess it wasn't going to be so simple." You sigh. "Mead mentioned she knows a guy who may be able to help. Something of an AI expert. Maybe I should ask her to get his help on this."

"Yeah, getting an expert involved would be a good idea, if he can be trusted." Vicky nods.

Yeah, that was the sticking point. If he could be trusted. Trust was something that was in a bit of a shortage these days. But if you wanted to get this salvaged AI working properly, there wasn't much other choice.

Well, at least you'd have plenty of spare time to get this done...

"Are you sure about this?" You frown as you reluctantly hand Vicky's cobbled together laptop to Mead. She had already arranged a meet with this mysterious friend of hers, though it would involve tagging along with a special IUN transport to who knows where.

"Of course! The guy I know can be trusted. Well, mostly trusted." Mead assures you. "Besides, you'll be tagging along with me, right?"

"Our squadron was tasked with escorting your flight, yeah." You nod and narrow your eyes. "Though I'm sure it was thanks to you."

"I may have dropped a suggestion or two." Mead chuckles. "Besides, sounds like the IUN needs a bit of muscle inland, anyways. That's why they insisted Orpheus come along, as well."

"You know, nobody's actually said where exactly we're going." You frown.

"Bit of opsec, I'm afraid." Mead gives a sly grin. "Only the transport has the final coordinates, which gives you extra incentive to protect us!"

Well, you figure it was best to keep that little bit of information to yourself. Still, it was pretty shocking that you would be heading to the ruins of Stonehenge, which was considered holy ground among pilots. After all, that was where Mobius One practically single handedly destroyed the entire superweapon complex.

And just recently, you heard Osea had gotten one of the cannons operational again to knock down one of the Arsenal Birds in the Lighthouse War. You honestly had to give them some props for that.

Still, you heard that last cannon basically fried itself, so it was useless. What were the IUN still doing out there?

Your thoughts were immediately interrupted by the arrival of Vicky and Misono.

"Milly!" Vicky waves her hand. "We're getting read to take off? Have you gotten your plane loaded up yet?"

Shit! You totally forgot!

Considering this was an air escort mission, your Su-47 could mount long range SAAMs or short range QAAMs. Or, you could go in clean with standard missiles to give your Su-47 just a bit more agility.

After all, even though you dealt some heavy damage to the Raven, there was no guarantee it wouldn't come back...

You opt to take long range SAAM missiles this time. If something were to try and ambush you, you'd be able to reach out and hit them from a long ways away.

Soon enough, your planes and prepped and everybody takes off without a hitch. Your squadron and Orpheus Team circle around Fort Grays as Mead's transport prepares to take off.

"Hey, Red, so Mead's cargo is safe?" Vicky asks, of course quietly referring to the AI you put in her care.

"Yeah, it should be doing fine." You answer.

"Well, looks this one's going to be a long trip." Angela observes. "Hope you all took a proper bathroom break before you took off!"

"Come on, you don't have to say that." Alanna sighs. The two Typhoons of Orpheus team lazily hold position beside you.

"So, Bandit, how are we going to handle things?" Angela asks your squad leader. "Mission intel says we gotta keep our eyes out."

"MIssion intel always says that." You roll your eyes.

"True, but we should never discount the possibility." Bandit cautions.

"Swordfish, Knives, let's go!" You call out as you throttle up, pulling ahead of the formation.

"C-coming!" Vicky blurts as her Gripen accelerates to keep up.

"Haha, heading out the goad the enemy into combat, eh? I will gladly partake!" Misono laughs as her F-2 keeps pace as well.

And so the three of your planes range out, the main formation growing smaller and smaller in the distance behind you.

All the while you keep a close eye on your radar and your surroundings. Being out in the open like this meant you'd be relatively easy targets. That was the point, of course, but you still had to be careful.

Suddenly, your radar pings with contacts. Glancing at the screen, it immediately tags 8 F-14s. Long range interceptors.

"Hey, do you all see what I'm seeing?" You ask your wingmates.

"I-Is it an air patrol?" Vicky wonders, the uncertainty obvious in her voice.

"They are not broadcasting any IFF or transponder signals." Misono points out. "If they are a patrol, they are being highly irresponsible."

Well, either way, it looks like they haven't noticed you yet. However, that wasn't going to last long. If you could detect them from here, then chances are they could do the same to you.

Well, F-14s' main strength was their long range capability, but that didn't mean they weren't slouches in a dogfight, either.

However, the only answer you get back is a blast of static. You wince at the sound. Was it some kind of jamming? Technical issue?

No, something in your gut was already telling you things weren't right here. Your fears are confirmed when instead of hearing any sort of contact, the F-14s immediately turn to face you and your wingmates. They were trying to get a target lock on you!

"Swordfish! Knives! Break! Break!" You yell. You knew the both of them weren't packing SAAMs like you and the F-14s undoubtedly were.

"W-w-what?!" Vicky wails as her Gripen dives.

"Breaking!" Misono answers as her F-2 snaps to the side in a rapid roll.

Without losing a beat, you immediately fire off a pair of SAAMs. You watch intently as they streak off in the distance towards the hostile F-14s. Unfortunately, one aspect of SAAMs were that you had to hold your radar lock on them for the entire duration, as they needed radar guidance from your plane to operate properly. On the bright side, if the F-14s wanted to fire back, they'd have to do the same.

Both your SAAMs zoom out, converging on the approaching F-14s. However, something catches you off guard. One of the F-14s boosts forward right into the sights of your pair of SAAMs. Was he acting as some sort of sacrifice?

The F-14 then explodes as both heavy missiles slam into it, but its seven comrades respond with their own missile volley as a wave of SAAMs come flying your way in response. Your missile warning screams in alarm.

Vicky and Misono were taking the chance to close in the F-14s while they were focused on you, but that was a hell of a lot of missiles to dodge. Could you even last that long?

You still had chaff and flares. Maybe it was time to use them to eke out any improvement to your chances of survival...

You deploy your chaff to confuse the SAAMs, and it works. The false radar returns the cloud of chaff gives throw off the SAAMs' guidance, and the missiles begin swerving in in multiple directions and exploding harmlessly.

However, that was only going to work once. That was pretty much all the chaff you were carrying.

"Swordfish, Knives, watch out, I think we're dealing with drones here!" You grunt. "They're not behaving like normal pilots would!"

"What? Drones that look like normal planes?" Vicky gulps.

"I have heard stories of such things!" Misono responds. "Come, Swordfish, we shall engage them up close!"

"O-o-okay!"

On your radar, you see Vicky and Misono's planes closing in on the formation. Three of the F-14s move forward to intercept them, while the remaining four remain on station, ready to sling more SAAMs your way.

"Red, what's your situation?" Bandit calls out.

"Hostile drones set up to look like F-14s!" You respond. "We're engaging!"

"Roger, the transport is redirecting course to avoid the fighting." Bandit reports. "Do you need backup? I can send Orpheus to assist."

Well, you weren't going to lie. You were currently at a serious numerical disadvantage here. However, there was no telling what other surprises may be lurking out there. If the transport were to be ambushed, would Bandit really be enough to protect it?

"No worries, Boss! I can handle these damn clankers myself!" You assure him.

"Red-!"

However you're already moving into an attack position just as the quartet of F-14 drones get their radar locks on you. This one was going to be a slugfest, you were sure.

Meanwhile, Vicky and Misono had managed to close the distance and were in the midst of brawling with their opponents. Their smaller planes were far more nimble and had the edge in a close up fight, but these F-14s were definitely putting up a fight, using team tactics to cover each and prevent either Vicky or Misono from getting an easy kill shot.

You, on the other hand, could either keep slugging it out with the other F-14s with SAAMs, or try to get in closer where your Su-47 would have a much more pronounced performance advantage.

You kick in your afterburners, determined to close the distance to the F-14s before their SAAMs could find their mark. Your Su-47 lurches for a brief second as it picks up speed rapidly. At the same time, you see flashes as the F-14s unleash their payloads, which come buzzing towards you at high speed as well.

Knowing that the SAAMs weren't particularly maneuverable, you bide your time, waiting for the right moment. Finally, just as the long range missiles come into visual contact, you make a sharp turn towards the missiles. Not only are the missiles slow to respond to your sudden maneuver, but your turn rapidly puts you much closer to them than expected.

The unwieldy missiles zoom past you, moving too fast to be able to change course in time. They explode after realizing they lost their target, showing your plane with shrapnel and wreckage. However, the damage is only light, compared to getting a direct hit from one of those things.

And just like that, you were in arm's reach of the four F-14, who immediately respond by splitting up, intending to engage you from all sides.

Even though your Su-47 would beat the snot out of them in a dogfight, being outnumbered like this was certainly going to make things a challenge...

>And that's it for tonight! We'll continue things on Saturday, so stay tuned!

Immediately, the four F-14s you're going after split up into 4 different direction. Your suspicion that they're drones only grows as they split off into four different directions in sync. Human pilots would never do something like that. At the very least they would break up in wing pairs so that wingmates could keep track of each other.

Either way, two of the F-14s go into a power climb, heading for high altitude, while the other two dive low towards the ground. This was an obvious ploy to try and split your attention. Going after the lower pair would be simple, but would leave your back vulnerable to the pair up high, who could pounce on your tail or continue to sling SAAMs at you from a safe distance. Going after the pair going high would mean losing track of the other pair, who could use their dive speed to charge right at the transport.

You immediately kick your nose up to follow the F-14s making the climb. You'd just have to trust Bandit and Orpheus can deal with the other F-14s. You try to line up your nose with the F-14s in front of you. However, they had a pretty big headstart.

One of your SAAMs manages to catch up to the closer F-14, ramming itself up one of the engine nacelles and causing the whole craft to explode into a cloud of debris. However, your second missiles fails to catch up to the second F-14, which was at a higher altitude.

However, it seemed the F-14 was reaching the limit of its operational ceiling, as it flips over in the air, pointing its nose straight back down towards you. It looked like the damn thing was trying to ram you!

Your cannon rounds fly straight and true, shredding the F-14 to pieces before it can dive into you. The stricken craft disintegrates into pieces, allowing you to finally level out and get a grasp of the situation.

"Red! They've got reinforcements!" Vicky wails. "Super Hornets out of nowhere!"

"It's a marvelous battle!" Misono laughs.

Sure enough, your radar was reading that the F-14s Vicky and Misono had been engaging had been shot down, but now six Super Hornets were in the mix, giving your wingmates a hard time.

"Gah! Damn these drones! Where's their honor?" Alanna curses.

Behind you, the F-14s were harassing the transport with long range SAAM fire. Orpheus team had peeled away to engage them, but that just left Bandit to the cover the transport by himself.

Believing that the others can handle their individual battles, you head over to the transport, whose escort was now dangerously thin.

"This ride's getting a little too exciting...." Mead laughs nervously.

"Don't worry, we'll get you to the destination safely." Bandit assures her. "Red, what's your condition?"

"I'm good." You tell him. "Just a few dings and I'm a bit low on SAAMs, but that's it."

"Just a few dings?" Mead grunts. "I can see that shrapnel damage on your bird! You know how long it takes to fix that crap!?"

You try to ignore Mead's complaints as you try to keep an eye out for any more threats. If reinforcements came to jump Vicky and Misono, there were likely more waiting to ambush the real objective, the transport.

Your radar warning receiver suddenly screams as it detects a hostile target lock.

"Red, break!" Bandit orders as his F-15 performs an immediate snap roll.

"Don't have to tell me twice!" You yell as you perform your own snap roll.

The transport meanwhile banks away, dropping flares and chaff to cover itself.

And that's when you see a pair of F-22s emerge from the clouds. Shit, those were some seriously nasty birds. Not only were they fast and maneuverable, but their stealth features made it hard to get radar locks on them!

"Looks like the drones did their job." You hear a voice buzz. "Only two hostiles escorting the target."

"Take them out and secure the target before the other escorts can respond." You hear another voice.

So it looked like it was just you and Bandit against this pair of F-22s. A good old fashioned 2v2 brawl.

You crane your head backward and catch sight of the F-22s firing missiles. Small ones that did a number of crazy loops and maneuvers as they homed in on you. The bastards has fucking QAAMs!

Immediately, you kick your Su-47 into a sharp rolling dive. The sudden maneuver kills your energy quite a lot, but it's enough to throw off the supermaneuverable QAAMs, buying you a few more seconds.

That's when Bandit takes his shot. His F-15 blasts in on full afterburner, swooping down on the F-22s like a bird of prey. As he blasts past, he unleashes a pair of missiles which slam into the trailing F-22. The advanced fighter instantly breaks up and explodes as Bandit's F-15 zooms off, leveraging its ludicrously high speed to come around for another attack run.

Realizing the tables were now turned on him, the one remaining F-22 breaks off pursuit and hits afterburners, apparently intending to disengage from the fight before Bandit could return.

You whoop a victory cheer as your SAAMs manage to catch up to the fleeing F-22, evaporating it in a cloud of fire and metal debris.

"Good job, Red." Bandit says simply.

"Heh, that was a good shot yourself, Boss." You return the compliment.

"Ravens, Orpheus, give me a status report." Bandit calls out. "All hostiles have apparently been mopped up."

"We took out those Tomcats, so they won't be bothering us anymore!" Angela reports.

"I wanted to fight those Raptors, though..." Alanna sighs.

"W-we survived, somehow." Vicky whimpers. "But Swordfish took some damage!"

"It's minor damage." Misono tries to assure you all. "Just a damaged tail section."

"D-damaged? Pretty much the top half is blown off!" Vicky protests.

Sure enough, as both your wingmates get back into visual range, you could see Misono's F-2 was rather beat up. There were holes from missile fragments and cannon rounds pockmarking the fuselage, and the top section of her tail really was shorn off.

"I'm fine." Misono continues to insist. "And I still have control over my plane."

"Yeah, it's better safe than sorry." You say.

"Agreed. Knives, you're sitting this out." Bandit says sternly. "We'll talk about this later."

"Yes sir." Misono says glumly.

Honestly, you felt a bit bad for Misono, having to be sidelined like this.

"Mead, is there anywhere she can land?" Bandit asks.

"There's an IUN-affiliated outpost not far from here she can touch down on." Mead says. "They should have the facilities necessary to get her bird back up and running so she can catch up."

"I don't like the idea of leaving her alone, though." Bandit grumbles. "Red, Swordfish, do either you want to go down with her?"

"I could go!" Vicky quickly volunteers. You already know she's taking the bullet for you, knowing how important this trip is for you.

And Bandit couldn't go, since he was the squad leader. Orpheus was their own separate unit, and you couldn't expect them to cover for your squadron.

"Misono is more than capable of taking care of herself." You remind everybody. "And if it's friendly territory she's landing in, that's less to worry about, right?"

"I suppose." Bandit finally relents. "All right, Knives, do it. Land and get your plane fixed. We'll link back up on the return trip."

"I'll get my plane fixed and I'll be right behind you!" Misono counters. "I will do what I can to atone for this shame!"

"Really Knives, you don't have to take this so seriously." Band sighs.

And with that, Misono reluctantly breaks off from the main formation and starts dropping altitude as she makes her way to the IUN outpost. The rest of you continue on towards Stonehenge. Thankfully, there's no more ambushes or commotion on the way, and you arrive at the old superweapon base without any further issue.

"Oh my gosh, is that Stonehenge?" Vicky gasps.

"It's the real deal." Angela whistles. "What the hell are we doing out here?"

"I don't know, but I'm not complaining." Alanna says as your formation flies over the ruined superweapon complex.

Down below, the old Stonehenge cannons looked tiny, like small artillery cannons. However, you knew that their actual sizes were practically small skyscrapers. In their prime, these cannons could sling shells across the entire damn continent!

However, farther out in the distance, you could see probably the reason why the IUN was still interested in this place. There, clear as day, was the wreck of an Arsenal bird. All around it, you could see tiny white tents and a fleet of construction vehicles. Looks like the IUN was doing its best to collect and dismantle the wreckage, undoubtedly to prevent any of the sensitive components from falling into the wrong hands.

You all land at the nearby airbase. The transport is immediately pulled into a closed but temporary hangar, out of sight. Mead doesn't come out immediately. Didn't help that it was starting to get dark now, too.

"Damn, will you look at that." Angela whistles the sight of the Stonehenge cannons. Now that you were all on the ground, the true scale of the massive cannons could truly be felt as they towered over everything in the surrounding desert.

"Ohmygosh! It's really an Arsenal Bird up close!" Vicky marvels at the wrecked aerial carrier drone. Even though it was a hunk of junk now, Vicky was still completely enthralled at the sight.

"This desert's got a lot f blood soaked into it." Bandit shakes his head as a cold breeze blows.

You decide to wander off from the main group as they go about checking their planes for any damage or faults, and you find yourself walking among the base of the massive Stonehenge rail cannons. Just like the ancient ruins this facility was named for, the modern Stonehenge was a modern ruin. Instead of stone obelisks jutting up in the sky, there were steel ones.

The area as pretty much abandoned. The cannons had been destroyed ages ago, and were of little value to anyone. Fixing the cannons would incur a cost so astronomical that nobody has had any desire to try. Even the on cannon Osea had gotten working basically fried itself the moment they fired it.

So for the time being, it looked like Stonehenge was going to remain standing, to forever remain a marker of mankind's arrogance.

However, you find that you're not alone. Glancing to the side, you see what you assume to a scientist. A middle aged, bespectacled man wearing a lab coat that was fluttering in the desert breeze. For a moment, you almost thought it was the Professor.

While you wouldn't pay some random scientist any attention, what does pique your interest is that the wind carries an old, mournful tune that he seems to be humming. One that drums up some old nostalgia. You remember that song, playing softly from the old record player in the Professor's office on certain days.
