You decide that the three of you should stick together, a party that stays together survives together. The [Cult Warrior] has no problem since he intended to go with or without you, but the [Gold Wizard] seems a bit reluctant to be on the “away” mission. Being unarmed, he won't be much use in combat. Yet ultimately, he comes along too.

You ask the [Cult Warrior] to break the spear for you into a manageable size, so that you can have a makeshift knife. He complies, but seems to have a few words for you.

[Cult Warrior]: What do you plan to do with this?

[You]:”To defend myself. Although, I don't think I can take a blow like you can”

You hear the wooden shaft of the spear splinter under the [Cult Warrior]s foot. He picks up the shattered spear and places the makeshift dagger into your hands. As you move to close your hand over the hilt, the [Cult Warrior] lifts it out of your palm before you can grasp it.

[Cult arrior]: “I admire your resolve. But... perhaps this should be a last resort kind of thing. Leave the heavy lifting to me alright?”

[You]:”But, I want to help... I'm stronger then I look.”

[Cult Warrior]: “The best thing you can do, if something comes after you, is run away and use your brain. A worthy warrior plays to his strengths.”

He then places the dagger into your hand and leaves to head downstairs. You also decide to take the small, fake, crystal ball with you since you have a hand free. Then you and the [Gold Wizard] follow after him.

The three of you walk down the long descending stairs for several minutes before you finally see the next floor.

The three of you exit into a small room with two notable exits, 4 long wooden pillars that support the wooden roof, and a single silk carpet that lays over wooden baseboards. The carpet really brings the room together. The lack of windows darken the room significantly, but two touches work tirelessly to keep the room reasonably illuminated.

Yet the most interesting thing in the room is not the moon touched wooden decor or the fine floor tapestry, but the three men hundred together around one of the torches on the other side of the room. At first they remind you of samurai warriors, but as you get a better look at them you quickly notice their long bug like appendages, and dusty see through wings. They seem well armed and armoured.

You and the [Gold en Wizard] exchange glances, how are you going to proceed you wonder? This question is quickly answered by the [Cult Warrior] who simply takes the initiative from you.

[Cult Warrior]: “You lads friendly?”

The [Cult Warrior] brandishes his sword and steps towards the men. But, other then a few twitches, they remain stationary. The [Cult Warrior] doesn't seem to appreciate being ignored and takes another aggressive step while spreading his arms wide.

[Cult Warrior]: “Oy! Im talking to you cunts.”

The [Cult Warrior] speaks much louder this time. As you wonder whats going to happen next, the [Gold Wizard]'s places his hand on your shoulder. He whispers down to you:

[Gold Wizard]: “This is exactly what I’m talking about.”

You see the the [Cult Warrior] is starting to get really upset, and you worry that he is going to do something impulsive. You quickly run up to him and wrap your arms around his waist.

[You]: “Hey wait, maybe they just don't speak our language. Don't do something rash!”

The [Cult Warrior] easily breaks out of your hold and continues advancing on the men. He does shoot you a response however.

[Cult Warrior]: “The bigger part of communication is none verbal. They choose not to respond, and with it they send a message.”

As the the [Cult Warrior] continues to advance you take a deeper look at the [Ga Ronin]. The way they are acting reminds you of something...

[Insight] You wonder if the [Ga Ronin] seem attracted to/mesmerized by the torch, like moths to a flame. You are: CORRECT. The [Ga Ronin] seem to be attracted to the flame, much like a moth. In fact, their wings remind you of the moths from... You're actually not sure. You can't recall where you have seen them before but you KNOW that you have seen them someplace.
With your new found wisdom, you attempt to share your insight with the [Cult Warrior]. In hopes that he will listen.
[You]: “They seem to be mesmerized by the light & as long as we don't enter either torches light they should leave us alone”

[Influence: 0] but your words seem ineffectual with the [Cult Warrior], as he seems to continue advancing on the [Ga Ronin]. When he is standing about sword length in distance from them, two suddenly turn and attack the [Cult Warrior]! Yet it is not with the singular, trained, strikes of a samurai that they assault the [Cult Warrior] with, but the zeal of a mindless insect. They don't even draw their swords. You can almost hear a hiss from beneath the blue masks which adorn their face. Each wear a more exaggerated face mask then the last!
>>
[Insight] You believe that the [Ga Ronin] would keep their distance if you stayed away from the light, you are : INCORRECT. The [Ga Ronin], possibly, attacked based on proximity.
The [Cult Warrior] is not taken by surprise however, as he quickly brings down his arming sword into the first [Ga Ronin]'s head. His strike splits the helmet and the sword imbeds itself into the [Ga Ronin]'s brain. The second [Ga Ronin] draws his sword! You expect a powerful revenge strike but instead the [Ga Ronin] swings his blade mindlessly. Its a simple task for the [Cult Warrior] to stay ahead of him, and eventually, retrieve his sword from the head of one opponent before plunging it deep into the second's stomach. This should have ended the battle, but the [Ga Warrior] keeps attacking instead. The stomach wound does nothing to staunch its insect zeal. It attempt to bite the [Cult Warrior] on the neck! But its mask prevents it from down any damage. Perhaps unaware of his own luck, the [Cult Warrior] retrieves his sword and slices off the [Ga Ronins] sword arm before decapitating it in a series of three strikes. It takes the full three attempts at decapitation to stop the [Ga Ronin] from flailing about.
The [Cult Warrior] takes a moment to breath, before he starts to eye down the third and final [Ga Warrior]. Who is still mesmerized by the flame.

You can't take your eyes off the battle, you are not sure what you should do. You didn't want the [Cult Warrior] to cause a fight. But you dont want him to lose either. You have no real way of stopping him, Or honestly, even assisting him.

[Gold Wizard]: “Hmmm... tell me, what do you see here?”

You turn around to see the [Gold Wizard] is looking down at the carpet and studying it. He seems to have payed no attention to the blood bath before him.

[Gold Wizard]: “Its interesting no? These humans seem to be worshipping an insect? Or perhaps its a warning?”

You ignore the [Gold Wizard] for now, he may be pragmatic enough to disregard the [Ga Ronin] but you are not. You strongly feel that they are of no harm to you or the party. You call out to the [Cult Warrior] in an attempt to make one final push in saving the creatures life.

[You]: Leave him alone you big bully! Can't you see they are not themselves!

Thats got his attention, the [Cult Warrior] remains fixated on the [Ga Warrior] but turns his head to look back at you every now and again.

[You]: Look how ornamental their amour is, yet they act like mindless insects. Something here doesn't make sense. Ill prove it!

You run up to the torch hanging on the wall and toss it at the [Ga Warrior]. You are not strong but you are able to do at least this. The Torch sails through the air and lands behind the [Ga Warrior]. Who, in turn, runs after the torch and hovers around it. Now the [Ga Warrior] is snugly hidden behind the wooden pillar.

[Gold Wizard]: “Is your plan to burn down the room while we are still in it? We better hope what ever this wood is made out of it doesn’t burn easy.”

The [Cult Warrior] on the other hand seems to relax a bit as the [Ga Ronin] moves further away from him.

[Cult Warrior]: “I can see that something is indeed not right here. But they are a danger, I would put it down like the mad dog it is. For our safety, and to preserve the creatures honour. What ever it is now, it was at least a warrior in life.”

[You]: “But the warrior may be important somehow, just look at this carpet he could be connected somehow”.

Uncharacteristically, the [Cult Warrior] looks over to the [Gold Wizard]. Who just shrugs.

[Gold Wizard]: “Possibly, on the other hand its most likely just a carpet. Someone may be angry if we kill him though.”

[Cult Warrior]: “Have you already forgot that we are escaped prisoners. No one we meet is going to be happy to see us.”

The [Gold Wizard] rubs his hands together

[Gold Wizard]: ”angry-'er'

The [Cult Warrior] seems on edge but doesn't yet move to finish off the final [Ga Warrior].

[Cult Warrior]: “He is too close to that door now, ill have to kill him if we want to go that way.”
>>
The [Gold Wizard] moves away from the carpet and heads towards the door closest to him and away from the [Ga Ronin]. He looks down directly at the plaque.

[Gold Wizard] “Hmm... Interesting. We can't go this way either.”

[Cult Warrior] ”What? Why not?”

The [Cult Warrior] heads to the door and seeks to open it

[Gold Wizard]: ”Wait! Don't touch that doo...”

The [Cult Warrior] turns the handle a few times but the door doesn’t budge.

[Cult Warrior]: Its locked

[Gold Wizard]: ”Uughh, that door is magical. It could have killed you, show some patience.”

[Cult Warrior]: “Well why didn't you say something then?”

You can't see the [Gold Wizard]'s eyes, but you are sure they are rolling around like a turbine in their sockets. But he does point down at the plaque.

[Gold Wizard]: ”it reads: 'The ascendent meditated upon these words, and the path of ascension opened before him'. Its a riddle, it most likely opens the door.”

[Cult Warrior]: “Well what about the other door?”

The [Gold Wizard] takes a look over at it then shrugs.

[Gold Wizard]: ”Non magic.”

You see this as an opportunity to interject.

[You]: “WAIT! If I can solve the riddle then we don't have to kill the moth person right? Give me a chance! Maybe I was right, the carpet and that moth may be connected or something”

[Cult Warrior]:”Make it fast”

You take a better look at the carpet. The Gold Wizard walks over to assist:

[Insight]: The carpet shows people praising some bug-man entity who looks over the dead
[Gold Wizard]: “Possibly, or maybe its a warning. A depiction of history events? Perhaps these [Ga Warrior]s enslaved some humans and this carpet commemorates that. This Central figure could be the bringer of death.”

[insight]The pattern is orderly and rectangular on the left half, then changes to chaotic and angular on the right part - as if under bug-man's influence.
[Gold Wizard]“Yes that is possible, the left half shows order and obedience. While the right depicts death, and the chaotic nature of the back ground could be related. This strengthens my assertion that it is a warning. Yet I don't see how it relates to the riddle. Perhaps these moths see themselves as the ascendants. Fun Idea: Perhaps these [Ga Warrior]'s were once men. “

[Insight] Perhaps the left represents life and the right represents the afterlife? The figures on the left seem to be worshippers, while the ones on the right are at a glance skeletons. The opposite sides appear to be inverted as well, with the heads of the worshippers pointing up and those wave symbols below them, while the skeleton's heads point downwards and the wave symbols are above them.
[Gold Wizard]: “Correct, but notice that the waves are emanating from the central figure. It is he who decides who lives and who dies. The strong cull the weak and make slaves of their culture. This is not to be disputed, it is the facts of life. History shown us time and time again that the ones with the means will exploit the ones without for profit. This rug only demonstrates that ancient wisdom.”

[Cult Warrior]:”Lets move this along yeah?”

You are not sure if you agree with the [Gold Wizard]'s take on the carpet. You also don't know how it relates to the puzzle, maybe it doesn't. Maybe it doesn't mean anything at all?

[You]: “Ok, I think I have a plan, but im going to need your help”.

The [Gold Warrior] crosses his arms and looks like he is already on the defensive.

[You]: “I need you to go upstairs and get a spear from the skeletons and maybe a book, then we will set it on fire and use it to lead the warrior onto the mat”

[Cult Warrior]: ”No”

[You]: “No?”

[Cult Warrior]: “Yes, no. I'm not doing any of that. What kind of hoops are you planning to jump through? Ill just gut this insect and we can move on.”

[You]: “Well, if you don't want to go ill do it myself!”

[Cult Warrior]: “No you won't”

[You]: “What?”

The [Gold Wizard] has a small laugh and shakes his head.

[Gold Wizard]: “Oh boy, here it comes. And so soon too”

You notice the [Wand] slide down into the [Gold Wizard] sleeve and into his palm. This seems to go unnoticed by the [Cult Warrior].

[You]: “What do you mean I won't? Are you planning to stop me?”

[Cult Warrior]: “Yes, I'm bigger and stronger then you. This is not a democracy. I won't wait for you to head back up those damn stairs just so you can try your little trick. I don't want to die here, and I won't let YOU die doing something stupid either.”

[Insight] You believe that the [Cult Warrior] may want to die fighting, you are: INCORRECT

[You]: “I believe that the riddle is being literal, it has something to do with being directly on top of the plaque. If you won't wait then ill just get the [Ga Ronin] to chase me over it! Then you can kill it.”

The wand disappears from the [Gold Wizard]'s palm, as he puts his hand to his chin.

[Gold Wizard]: “Literal? Oh, yes I suppose it could be interpreted that way. Yes...”

The [Gold Wizard] seems about to say something, but instead he keeps quite and starts rubbing his hands together instead.

[Cult Warrior]: “Thats too dangerous, I wont let you do that.”

[You]: “You don't get to tell me what I can and cannot do”

[Cult Warrior]: “You take a step towards that [Ga Ronin], and ill gut it.”

You look to the [Gold Wizard] for back up but what ever he had planned with the wand is long gone. Instead he gives you a thumbs up.

[Gold Wizard]: “I think you are on the right path, maybe the carpet and the [Ga Ronin] never had anything to do with this mystery after all.”
>>
[You]: Well then maybe...

[Gold Wizard]: “Go on”

[You]: “Maybe its as easy as simply standing over the plaque then? I have a few ideas but maybe we can try this first.”

[Gold Wizard]: “Perhaps, give it a go.”

As you approach the plaque the [Gold Wizard] takes two steps back from the door. The [Cult Warrior] simply watches. When you get on top of the plaque you close your eyes and try to meditate, after several moments you wonder if anything is going to happen. But then you hear a loud “click” come from the door and you know it to be unlocked.

>[1/4] Trials of the ascendant complete +1 [Blue Book Point]

[Cult Warrior]: “See? You two are over thinking things, wasting time.”

[Cult Warrior]: “You have a solid head on your shoulders and your intentions are good. Listen to me, and Ill get you out of here alive.”

You look back to see the final [Ga Warrior] scurrying the pillar and around the the torches, you wonder if maybe the light is whats causing the [Ga Warrior] to act so mindless in the first place? It doesn’t look like the [Cult Warrior] wants to stick around to find out...

>How do you feel about the [Cult Warrior] now?

Rather impulsive and easy on the trigger. Still, in the end he's the one that not just wishes our well being but will fight to protect us from any ill event.

Extremly trustworthy and somewhat a good friend.
>>
You watch as the [Cult Warrior] opens the door, and steps into the next room. “What kind of man is he?” you muse. Well, he is straight forward and honest, and you don't feel any ill intent from the warrior at all. This you feel to be the most true. Even though he did take away your agency back there. Not wanting to assist you is one thing, but stopping you from acting is another. You wonder when the next time your actions will be obstructed, “for your own good”, will be. He may be good to you so far, but he is impulsive and easy to trigger. He picked a fight and slaughtered those [Ga Ronin], who are obviously afflicted with some ailment. So can you even say that he is a good person? Why does he treat you nice and the [Gold Wizard] so harshly? Will his attitude change if you start to disagree with him? He is a brash warrior who doesn’t take time to think, telling you to plan ahead but not waiting at all for you to do so. Ultimately, you feel he is someone you can trust to keep you safe. But he will do so HIS way, and HIS way may ultimately be what brings the danger.

You step into the next room after the [Cult Warrior], letting him lead you.

All of that is an accurate description of the [Cult Warrior] and your relationship. But, its not how you feel about him. How does he make you feel? How do you feel when he pats you down and so carelessly places his hand on your head? How do you feel when he treats you like a child? How do you feel when he gives you advice? How do you FEEL towards him and how do you FEEL when you see him slay? You really don't know, you guess you don't really feel anything at all. It is how it is and that is enough for now. A pragmatic approach, you are sure the [Gold Wizard] would approve. You look down at your chest and place your hands over your heart to make sure its beating. What is it that you feel? You have come to this mysterious place and yet you are not really sure you have felt anything at all.

The [Gold Wizard] breaks your concentration and you take a look around yourself. You are caught off guard with the grandeur of the space that you have entered. The [Cult Warrior] and [Gold Wizard] both seem to join in on letting their guard down and taking in the view. The small garden you have entered blooms with soft blue light and opens itself to the night sky. The moon is full and its pale light flows down upon the flowers and mushrooms who reach up towards her. You can see that some of the flowers here open their pedals to the moon, as a flower would normally to the sun. To the left of you is a small gazebo that is open the the nights sky while to the right is a small pond. A bridge allows for safe passage over the calm shallow water. Further down, you see more rooms that are open to the nights air. Its too dark to see whats in them without getting closer, as it is simply too dark. You also notice the chiseled rock path beneath your feet, the stones are perfectly cut into rectangular formations. You wonder for a moment how such precise cuts could be possible, but that thought is whisked away when you notice the path suddenly ends to what looks like a sheer drop.

The [Gold Wizard] stands in the centre of the path and looks quite puzzled, he looks around himself and at the night sky. Seemingly in deep thought.

While the [Cult Warrior] steps into the garden and kneels down to pluck a flower. In moments it withers and dies in his hand, causing him to drop it.

You are not sure if these rectangles are supposed to represent some kind of zen state in this culture, or what? But to you, they are a rectangle nightmare! You can't stand to look at them for much longer, so many edges and sides looping forever placed ever so randomly. Its enough to make you dizzy! So you step right off the pavement and onto the nice moist grass instead. You can feel you socks getting wetter as you walk through the garden, but its better then dealing with the cyclopean masonry of the elder race!

As you walk through the garden you notice a few things. First is the small glowing insects that dart around the garden. They remind you of fireflies but much bigger. You attempt to catch one in your hand, but it expertly dodges you and buzzes away. For a moment you almost let yourself relax enough to childishly chase after it. But decide its not the time nor place. Another interesting feature of the garden is the flowers. You quickly notice that all of them come in pairs. Counting them as you go, you can't find an odd pair. You wonder if this is by some natural design or perhaps it is the gardeners intention. Like the rectangle imagery, perhaps the tender of these flowers enjoyed the symmetry.

[Insight]: You believe that one of the mushrooms is unique. You are: CORRECT.

Upon investigation of the garden you find one odd mushroom that sits alone nestled in between a few flowers. He is a plump little mushy, and his singularity mocks you. Almost enough to pull it out of the ground... Almost... Maybe soon... For a moment you think the mushroom wiggled in anticipation!

As for your companions, the [Gold Wizard] still stands in about the same place, and is still searching the skies for something. He seems pretty deep in thought. While the [Cult Warrior] slowly edges towards the ledge of the garden, to take a look down. He does so very carefully, as if afraid to fall off. Soon, he picks up a rock and throws it over the edge. He drops to the ground in order to better listen for the sound of it hitting the ground.

Leaving the garden behind, you decide to check out the Gazebo. The first thing you gravitate to is the plaque on the ground. You stare at it for a while, you do your best to read it but you don't understand the language. Yet somehow you feel like you know what it says. The words “It is not enough for the ascendent to walk towards ascension” forms in your mind. A blink later and its gone. Did that come from your mind or the plaque? You give the plaque another look but you can't make the words pop back into your head organicly again. Now you're not sure that you didn't just make it up yourself... Perhaps the wizard should read it to you.

Leaving it be for now, you head over to the small table. There is an empty piece of paper with a pencil on the table, as well as a locked box with a slit at the top. Picking up from the table and peeking through the opening you can see that its full of paper. You try but cant get them out by rattling the box around. You try to wedge the knife between the the two halves of the box and force it open. But instead you hear a cracking noise emanate from your dagger. Pulling it out you find it a large fissure running down the blade. Oops, you destroyed your rusty spear/dagger. Out of options, you call out to the warrior.

[You]: “Hey, can you help me with this?

The [Cult Warrior] hears your call and heads over to the gazebo. He Stands down on the pavement while you look down on him from the gazebo, its very empowering being taller then the [Cult Warrior] for the first time. You pass him the box.

[You]: “Please open this”

The [Cult Warrior] takes the box and tries to pull it apart. He fails and looks to get irritates at it, but he doubles down and places the box under his armpit for grip before taking a firm hold of the lock with his other hand. As he braces himself to pull off the lock, you take a scrutinizing look down at him.

[You]: “What does your tattoo mean?”

He half turns away from you and starts pulling apart the lock with all his might. A few seconds later you hear the lock pop. At the [Cult Warrior] passes you the now open box without hesitation. He looks pleased with himself.

[Cult Warrior]: “Its a symbol of my religion, it's suppose to open my heart to the universe.”

You take the box from him.

[You:] ”I see, thank you.”

From you vantage point, you reach town and pat the [Cult Warrior] on the head! A reward for a job well done.

Examining the content of the box reveals many, many, pieces of paper in an unknown language. You try to focus on the pages and make the words appear in your mind again but nothing happens. Out of the many papers filled with nothing but words, you find an odd drawing... What could it mean?

[Insight]: You thought that taking a position like the picture would solve the riddle, you are: INCORRECT.

>“It is not enough for the ascendent to walk towards ascension”

In order to relieve an awkward situation, the [Cult Warrior] walked off to scout out the other rooms, while the [Gold Wizard] joins you on the grass. You take the opportunity to pass him the box full of papers. He seems a little irritated at being disturbed, but takes the box from you and starts pouring through its contents anyway.

[Gold Wizard]: “Hmmm... most of these look to be death poems. Its in ancient Akrelian, the paper is in remarkable condition for such a long dead language. Some are just apologies or letters that were never delivered. Some of them make mention of 'completing the trial'. Apparently these people believed that it has something to do with jumping or falling off that ledge. In some of the letters it says that they were not aware of the nature of the trials before they got here. This one is a letter to the authors sister, he prepared for forty years before coming here.”

[You]: “You mean all these are from people who jumped to their deaths?”

[Gold Wizard]: ”That or they 'ascended' into the sky. Don't look so disturbed, men have done much worse in the name of their god. Wither their God is money, fame, power, or maybe even an ACTUAL god.

[You]: “But to jump to their deaths???”

[Gold Wizard]: “And why not? Try to put yourself in their shoes. You prepare your whole life for this moment, are you supposed to just walk away?”

[You]: “...”
>>
[Gold Wizard]: “I believe that every person has an 'event horizon', a point of no return. Once you pass it, how do you go back? When the price you payed has been so high that you can never go back, thats the 'event horizon'. Lets say, for example, you are with your party exploring an old tomb. These are your friends, you have known them for years. But as you go, your friends start to die, one by one. Deeper and deeper you go and they just keep dieing around you. Should you go back? But how can you? Your friends died just to get you this far. If you go back their deaths are in vain, they would have died for nothing. So you keep going, and as the death toll rises your blood investment stacks higher and higher. How can you turn back and lose it all? In the end, when the only one left is you, and you come face to face with it. That thing you thought you could never do. Yet the road is paved with the cobble stones of your friends bones and blood. What are you to do? To turn back now is to let all their deaths be for nothing. Never. At that point the only thing you can do is lay down more cobblestones, the only thing you can do is jump.”

[You]: “This example... Seems oddly specific.”

The [Gold Wizard] shoves the box back into your hands.

[Gold Wizard]: “Its just that, an example. People with no education will look for anything to cling onto. Our illiterate friend picked honour, I hope you are above such things.”

[You]: “Still, there is always time to turn back.”

[Gold Wizard]: “Is that so? We will see”

The [Gold Wizard] returns to laying down in the grass, he pulls his hat back over his face.

You decide to leave the [Gold Wizard] to his musings, and instead turn your attention to the mushroom that has been bothering you. You empty out your box of papers and fill it with dirt. Then you reach down and take the mushroom into your hands. The moment you touch it, he starts to wiggle and jive! You release him immediately, you knew this mushroom was different from the others. So you scope the ground deep under him, and place the entire Mushroom into the box.

Just in time for the [Cult Warrior] to return.

[Cult Warrior]: “You’re not planning on eating that are you? Don't eat strange Mushrooms. We don't have time for poisonings.”

You can't look the [Cult Warrior] in the eyes. So instead you look down at your feet

[You]: “What did you find?”

[Cult Warrior]: “The Door across the way and the big door all the way down the path is locked. The other rooms are... well. You better come see for yourself.”

You decide to follow the [Cult Warrior] and see the other rooms, no need to commit to so kind of jump before you explore the other rooms first. Not that you are planning to jump or anything, that would be insane haha. If you just jumped. You get to about the bridge when you realize the [Cult Warrior] has been talking to you this whole time.

[Cult Warrior]: “... just standing around, im not sure what they are doing. Maybe guarding the orb? Either way it ain’t normal.”

Its then when it hits you, what if this riddle could be interpreted literally as well? Perhaps the solution is not to timidly walk off the ledge but to rush towards it! You instantly turn around and run right for the ledge! The [Cult Warrior] turns around too late and sees you running full speed towards your destiny! He tries to run after you but you are long gone! The [Gold Wizard] hears the [Cult Warrior]'s shouting and looks up to watch you run. Yet he does nothing to stop you, perhaps enjoying the entertainment.

Once you reach the ledge, you STOP just short. You had hoped running would enough. Nothing seems to have happened, [Weightless] except for the fact that you just kept on sliding even after your full stop. Before you realize it, you slide right off the platform and over the edge. Looking down below you see nothing but white clouds, and feel a surge of wind rise up from beneath. You must be REALLY high up. [Weightless] Luckily the same thing that sent you over the ledge is the same thing that stops you from quickly plummeting to your death. You have more then enough time to turn around mid air and grab hold of the diving board before slowly sinking downwards. [Weightless] Its easy for you to pull yourself back up with just one arm.

After this you attempt to throw yourself off in numerous creative ways, and even jump up and down. The slow speed at which you fall makes it pretty safe to play around, yet this doesnt seem to effect anything other then giving the [Cult Warrior] an aneurism. He insists that you stop your foolishness and get away from the edge. You give one final look around, the fog is fairly heavy around the edge and bellow it, making it very hard to see whats down bellow you and around you. The only clear skies, are directly above you. When you return to the [Cult Warrior]'s side, you can see that hs is NOT happy with you.

You don't share too many words with the [Cult Warrior] after that, but he does take you over across the small pond to look at the other rooms. It seems the doors are quite decorative, since you can easily step into the other two rooms through the courtyard. Other then the many many occupants mindlessly walking around, the rooms both house what seem to be large glass spheres. They sit on top of some kind of table with pipes running underneath it. The pluming reminds you of an organ. You’re not sure the [Cult Warrior] can protect you if you trigger this many enemies.

The three of you meet up in the courtyard to discus what to do next. The [Gold Wizard] suggests clearing out the south-east room and investigating the crystal ball there. He also believes that the entrance to the south west room may be locked in the same way as the room you originally entered. So it stands to reason, that it would be accessible through its east entrance and could even possibly contain a set of stairs. He believes the north and south rooms mirror each other. The [Cult Warrior] doesn’t have much of an opinion himself, but comments that he would prefer fighting the small amount of [Ga Warrior]s over the horde on the other side.

Having yet to come up with a plan yourself, you buy time and take this opportunity to ask why the [Cult Warrior] doesn’t wear armour to protect his most vital areas. You suggest perhaps he try putting on some of the [Ga Ronin] armour before fighting. The [Cult Warrior] shoots down your suggestion and refuses to explain himself, you get the feeling that he is still pretty mad at you. You considered teasing the [Cult Warrior] but quickly realize that this may not be the right time for that. You, also at this very moment, realize you never actually introduced yourselves. So you ask the [Gold Wizard] and [Cult Warrior] their names.

The [Gold Wizard] seems reluctant to give up his name, and doesn’t ask for your name in return.

[Gold Wizard]: “Tom.”

You turn to the [Cult Warrior], but he doesn’t give you a name at all.

[Cult Warrior]: “My name is not important, stop wasting time! We need to come up with a plan already. Unless you are planning to continue playing around?”

Ultimately, no one asks for your name. So you don't give it.

Suddenly, your group is interrupted by a low rumble. You are not sure where it came from, but both your companions look down at their feet. Then, they look at each other.

[Gold Wizard]: "I felt it too"

[Weightless][You]: "Felt what?"

[Gold Wizard]: "The ground just shook. This place may be falling apart."

[You]: “Actually, I have a plan.”

[Cult Warrior]: “Go on”

[You]: “We should get one of the torches from earlier, we can use it to distract the [Ga Warrior]'s and maybe control their movement”

The [Gold Wizard] nods in approval.

[Gold Wizard]: “Makes sense, we have this behaviour in action before”

[Cult Warrior]: “Alright, but were going to have to kill that [Ga Ronin] you worked so hard to save”

[Cult Warrior]: “Don't mention it”

By the time you turn and start running, the [Ga Ronin] have already started crossing the pond! They move VERY quickly and they sound very PISSED.

You get the idea that you should just throw the torch off the ledge, or better yet, PLACE it on the ledge.
[Insight]: The [Ga Ronin] may not chase the torch off the ledge once they loose sight of it. Realizing that the light went over the edge would require associative thinking, and you're not sure they are capable of that.

As the stampede of [Ga Ronin] chase you, both the [Gold Wizard] and [Cult Warrior] dive out of the way. While you run FULL SPEED towards the ledge. Uh oh, you may not have thought this one through.

Whoops my bad then guess that went over my head. Even if we asked him what spells he would know before he had a book/understood his wand it wouldn't matter? You are running out of room too run and running out of time to think. So you do the most sensible thing you can, with the time given you. You half toss, half roll, the torch towards the ledge before you jump! Not into the abyss below, but towards the sky instead. You are already getting the hang of your abilities. [Weightless] You sail over the heads of the stampeding [Ga Warrior]s and land on the gazebo hand railing. With no time to look around, you toss yourself back into the air again. Once airborne, you slowly start drifting back down like a feather. You can only hope that you escaped the notice of the [Ga Ronin]. Looking down, you see that you did indeed get free of their grasp. The [Ga Ronin] all scurry and gather around the torch light instead. They push, and shove each other for a better view. One of them even falls off the ledge! It flaps its wings, but they have no effect, the armour they wear is too heavy and their wings seem transparent and weak. It simply plummets to its probable demise.

You eventually land back on the table and lose no time jumping out of there. Right into the arms of the waiting [Cult Warrior]. Your slow float speed makes the gesture ultimately pointless, but he catches you anyway. You feel his hands slide right under your armpits. You expect a tongue lashing, but instead you get a good shake down.

[Cult Warrior]: “Unbelievable! You did it! I thought you were dead for sure. Haha! Amazing!”

He sounds both impressed and relieved.

[Cult Warrior]: “Why didn’t you just toss the torch at them?? Why did you run? That was... that was something alright.”

He places you on the ground and gives you a hard slap on the back that sends you several spaces forward.

[Gold Wizard]: “I don't mean to interrupt but can I get a hand here?”

You look over at the [Gold Wizard], he has his wand out and is blasting a knelt over [Ga Ronin]. A sickly green ray fires from the wand, and causes the [Ga Ronin] to flail about. You can sense it is in great pain. The [Gold Wizard] tries to move away from the distraught insect man, but the [Ga Ronin] simply gets back up and charges the [Gold Wizard]. Who, in turn, blasts the creature again. The two of them seem to be stuck in a loop.

[Gold Wizard]: “Kill this thing”

[Cult Warrior]: “Is that a wand? Where did you get that? WHEN did you get that?”

[Gold Wizard]: “None of your business, just slay the creature already.”

[Cult Warrior]: “None of your business ? Then deal with it yourself.”

The [Gold Wizard] starts to get frustrated with barbequing the [Ga Ronin] over and over again. He seems unable to finish the job, and you wonder when exactly he identified the wand.

[You]: “Don't torture it! Just finish it off”

[Gold Wizard]: “I CANT, that's not how this wand WORKS”

The [Cult Warrior] scratches his chin, he seems to be deliberating helping the [Gold Wizard] or not. You decide to move things along and interfere.

[You]: “Please don't let him torture it any further, put that creature out of its misery”

[Cult Warrior]: “Which one?”

The [Cult Warrior] has a laugh to himself, but does do as you command. He walks up to the convulsing [Ga Ronin] and hacks at it a few times until is stops moving.

The [Gold Wizard] twirls the wand around between his fingers before disappearing it back into his robes. Then looks to you and gives you the tongue lashing you expected, before he continues on towards the now empty rooms.

[Gold Wizard]: “I was almost trampled by the damn things, you could have got me killed. I hope you will exercise some restraint in the future, perhaps think about someone other then yourself.”

That doesn’t have as much sting coming from the [Gold Wizard]

Before you all enter the South-East room, the [Gold Wizard] gives the large door at the end of the hall a test push. Having no luck, he also gives the plaque a read.

The room is much like the other rooms. Several wooden pillars hold up a wooden ceiling, and there is a tint of blue in everything. Its hard to tell if its from the moons light or its a natural pigment. Unlike the first room you entered, this one is also open to the courtyard. You enter through the door, but later wonder why you bothered.

The only thing that makes this room interesting is the large oval that inhabits the room. You had wanted to inspect it ever since you first saw it. You are not alone in this, as the [Gold Wizard] quickly moves to take a closer look at it, while the [Cult Warrior] heads to the next room.

You decide to stay with the [Gold Wizard], you are far too interested in the plaques and orbs to miss another lecture. You try to make the [Cult Warrior] wait for you, but he seems to lack the patience. The longer you loiter on this floor, the more he seeks to leave.

Stepping up to the Orb, you can almost feel a low baseline vibrate through the ground. It almost feels like the sphere is calling out to you. As you reach out to the dark surface, the louder the humming gets. But before you can place your hand on the cool glass surface, the wizard takes firm hold of your wrist. Having your fingers only an inch away, you can feel the orb vibrating with great intensity. Its resonating with you.

[Gold Wizard]: “Do NOT touch the orb.”

[You]: “Why?”

The [Gold Wizard] points down towards the plaque.

[Gold Wizard]: “The Ascendant must find balance. In unity: Harmony. In disjunction: Death”

He returns your arm, and repeats himself before turning back to the orb.

[Gold Wizard]: “In disjunction: DEATH”

As you pull your hand away, the orb returns to its placid state. A low humming continues permeating from it and into the room. You look on at the orb for a while before getting on your knees to take a look under it. You don't touch with your hands, but your eyes run all over the pipes. They shoot up from the ground, and into the orb from underneath.

[You]: “So what do you think it is?”

The [Gold Wizard] may be sore with you, but he seems to enjoy talking and being listened too. It doesn’t take any goading for him to gush information.

[Gold Wizard]: “Its a trap, but its also a key I think. There must be a way to activate this properly. I have seen this kind of device before. See here?”

he points down towards the pipes.

[Gold Wizard]: “These pipes don't just lead to a greater device underground, but they connect to something else. I wouldn't be surprised if this thing opens the large doors down the hall.”

[You]: “Did you read the plaque there? What did it say?”

[Gold Wizard]: “'The journey of the ascendant began before they took their first steps. With this knowledge the ascendant stands, while death washes over them and around them.' It is my opinion that the plaque is instructions for what ever lays in the final room, not the way into it.”

You take this opportunity to tell the [Gold Wizard] about the other plaque, back over at the gazebo. He seems more interested in the way the words appeared in your mind, then in the riddle itself.
>>
Its at about this time the [Cult Warrior] returns with a [backpack].

[Cult Warrior]: “Good news and bad news. You want the good or the bad first?”

[You]: “The good please”

[Cult Warrior]: “Well, I found this.”

The [Cult Warrior] motions to the backpack by shaking it in front of your face.

[Cult Warrior]: “one sleeping bag, some rope, eaten rations, a map I cant recognize, and a journal.”

[Gold Wizard]: “let me take a look at the map and journal.”

Having no personal interest in the items, the [Cult Warrior] places the items into the [Gold Wizard]'s hand.

[Cult Warrior]: “Also, I found the stairs out of here. The room is a copy of the room on the other side, rug and all. The bad news is they lead up, not down. I would prefer to go down then waste more time climbing stairs. But if its the only way out we better take it.”

[Gold Wizard]: “I don't recognize the map, but the journal tells of a traveller who carried it.”

[Cult Warrior]: “Dead”

He looks at your shocked expression

[Cult Warrior]: “Not by my hand, he is just bones and dust now.”

[Gold Wizard]: “A long time then, it will take some time to read all his notes.”

The wizard starts to flip through the journal searching for more recent entries.

[Gold Wizard]: “Well then, lets take a look at it.”

You and the wizard travel to the other room. You already have an idea in your head about what to do, you just need to confirm some things first. When suddenly, the ground rumbles. This time you feel it too.

It seems that two [Ga Ronin] still inhabit this room, too far back to have gotten caught by the torchlight. The [Cult Warrior] takes measures to eviscerate ANOTHER [Ga Ronin] before it can attack you. That body count is really starting to pile up.

You and the [Gold Wizard] investigate the plaque, and it reads the same as the orb on the other side. The sphere looks almost identical as well.

[You]: “I think we have to touch them at the same time, 'in unity: harmony'”

[Gold Wizard]: “I agree, unless there is another uncounted for orb. But we have now fully explored the available rooms.”

The [Cult Warrior] is easy enough to convince and gain his assistance, the promise of a possible downward stairs in the last room is enough. He also trusts you to solve “brainy” problems for him. Getting into position, you shout out to him.

[You]: “READY?”

[Cult Warrior]: “READY”

[You]: “THREE”

[Cult Warrior]: “THREE”

[You]: “TWO”

[Cult Warrior]: “TWO”

[You]: “ONE”

[You]: “GO!!!”

You press your hand onto the orb only to realize the [Gold Wizard] has stepped out of the room. Oh well, its too late to turn back now. Waves resonate from out the orb and blast you. You can feel your skin ripple and bones quake. The intensity gets greater and greater, but you don't let go of the orb! Then suddenly, the orb dies out completely. You hear a loud *CLICK* coming from out the hall.

>[2/4] Trials of the ascendant complete +1 [Blue Book Point]

You still feel the waves reverberating through your system as the [Gold Wizard] reenters the room.

[Gold Wizard]: “Well done, I had much faith in this plan”

[You]: “Then why did you leave?”

[Gold Wizard]: “In case we overlooked something. I wasn’t needed for the puzzle so it would be illogical for me to stay in the blast radius. This way I would be standing by to assist.”

[You]: “That makes sense I guess...”

You meet up with the [Cult Warrior] in front of the final door, he seems a little shaken as well.

[Cult Warrior]: “Ready?”

You’re not so sure... there is some kind of finality about the massive door. You wonder if there is something that needs to be done before entering.

“It is not enough for the ascendent to walk towards ascension”
Since a letterbox and writing supplies were provided, let's write something and put it into the box. Something encouraging others to walk towards ascension as well maybe?
I would think the riddle has something to do with jumping off the ledge, but we did actually jump off and nothing happened.

>[Insight][Solve a Riddle!]
“'The journey of the ascendant began before they took their first steps. With this knowledge the ascendant stands, while death washes over them and around them.' It is my opinion that the plaque is instructions for what ever lays in the final room, not the way into it.”
This probably means we'll have to stand still in place in the next room, or even before entering it, to avoid some kind of trap.

Especially the second part. Warn our companions.

As for the not enough to walk towards ascension part I dunno. Too vague. We can try writing a letter but otherwise we tried everything with the ledge and I don't see anything else here it can relate to. Maybe if we ran towards the doors instead of the ledge? Both the big ones and the ones to the bottom left room.

You wonder if you were supposed to put something in that box to solve the riddle? The [Gold Wizard] and [Cult Warrior] start arguing about something, but you can't get the final test out of your head. “It is not enough for the ascendent to walk towards ascension”. What does it mean? Are you supposed to run around the place? Honestly, at this point you are just fishing. You know they can't be the answers, so you don't bother really trying anything.

You do remind yourself to sneak back and rescues your mushroom friend. You are happy to see that he was not trampled by the [Ga Ronin]. You poke him with your finger, and he does a small jive. When you return to your companions, you do so by running. Just in case that was the answer to the riddle. You find them to be still arguing, they don't even notice that you had left. You suppose that its time to interject, the two are constantly at odds with the other. You wonder if someone placed the two of them in the same dungeon on purpose.

[You]: “What s the problem?”

[Cult Warrior]: “Were you not listening? The Wizard suddenly doesn’t want to go through the door”

[Gold Wizard]: “Yes... Well. I think that, ultimately, we should go up the stairs. Sometimes you have to go up to go down. There is no reason we should assume there is a set of stairs in there.”

[You]: “Whats your reasoning?”

[Gold Wizard]: “Call it a wizards intuition. Maybe we need to travel in a lateral direction, instead of assuming a decent is good.”

[Cult Warrior]: “Weren't you the one who claimed this to be a tower? Looking off the ledge I would think your assumption is correct. We should be going down if we want to escape.”

The [Gold Wizard] starts to bring his hands together, but instead, stops and scratch his chin instead. He seems to be in deep contemplation.

[Gold Wizard]: “...”

[You]: “Go on, whats on your mind?”

[Gold Wizard]: “Im not ready to share my working theory yet, but I have a bad feeling about the next room. The designers of this place seemed to work hard in keeping this door shut. From the looks of things, something destroyed the minds of these creatures. Perhaps they are all failed ascendants?”

[Cult Warrior]: “Speculation, we put in the time to open this door so lets at least take a look inside. Besides, don't you have any adventure in you? Who knows what could be behind that door.”

[Gold Wizard]: “I have had my fill of adventuring, thank you.”

>"Let's take the stairs, we can always come back."

If Tom is getting a bad feeling about this and the Ga Ronin may be failed Ascendants, I really don't think we should open the big door without having solved the third riddle.

And the third riddle.is unsolvable. Maybe we needed to put the mushroom in the box? I dunno man. All it tells us is that walking towards ascension is not enough.

At the very least I don't think it's full out jumping off the ledge or it should have activated when that one Ronin fell off trying to look at delicious lamp.

Just throwing a theory out there. What if, when we open the doors, 'death' comes pouring out of it and washes over everything in its path. And the solution is to prostrate ourselves on the precipice, so that it washes over us? That might be what this drawing is indicating. >>4012087

[You]:”You remember that picture we saw? With the person laying prone? Maybe the final riddle is telling us to prostrate ourselves on the precipice. So death washes over us?

[Gold Wizard]: “I would argue there is not enough room for all of us on that ledge. Second, It was my guess that the picture depicted a man who was under heavy duress over having to jump to his death. Most of the writing and words that came along with it expressed similar fears. Perhaps that individual was simply unable to write, so he drew what he felt.”

[You]: “I see... Well truth be told I really don't think we should enter this final room without solving the final riddle”

[Gold Wizard]: “I'm not so much of a fan of death washing over me”

[Cult Warrior]: “So the stairs then?”

You nod your head.

[You]: “The stairs”

~

The walk up the stairs isn’t too long, you would estimate about ten minutes. Step after step the stairway becomes darker and darker as the pathway snakes upwards around and around. Eventually you reach the next floor.

It is a single massive room, at the entrance sits two torches emanating a pale dark light. In the centre looks to be a very deep chasm. One that you simply couldn’t jump, even if you ran. Then finally, on the other side is a white marble alter sitting in front of a massive Black Gate. A white circle is painted in its centre, it stands in contrast to the darkness of the room.

[Cult Warrior]: “Its a dead end, and an ominous one too. We should have went into the final room after all”

[Gold Wizard]: “...”

[Cult Warrior]: “The two of you think too much, you should listen to me in the futur. Destiny favours the bold, and this action was NOT bold.”

[You]: “Maybe all is not lost, maybe there is something here...”

[Cult Warrior]: “If you are going to suggest me throwing you to the other side I wont do it.”

[You]: “I never even considered it! How could I even get back?”

[Gold Wizard]: “That gate... Have you ever seen anything like that before? I can feel the power from here.”

[Cult Warrior]: “No, never. Lets get out of here already. I can feel my skin crawl”

You take a few steps forward and peer over the edge. It runs deep until the darkness swallows the small amount of light generated by the candelabras.

[You]: ”If this chasm is any indication, we'll have to go down a lot of stairs to get out of this place.”

[Cult Warrior]: “Agreed, lets start as soon as possible.”

The [Cult Warrior] turns, and starts to head back towards the stairs.

[You]: “Wait, hand me the rope from your bag.”

[Cult Warrior]: “Why?”

The [Cult Warrior] questions you, but removes the backpack from his back and gets you the rope.

[You]: “I want to try two things before we go back.”

You get on your knees and try praying to the universe in general. But nothing happens. Perhaps its because you don't know who to pray to or about what? Or maybe it has nothing to do with anything. Either way, it was worth a shot. When you had enough of praying, you take action instead. You give one end of the rope to the [Cult Warrior] to hold, and you start throwing the other end off the ledge. Again and again it falls into the pit, only to be brought back up by the [Cult Warrior].

[Cult Warrior]: “Fishing for something?”

[You]: “I had hoped there would be an invisible platform we could walk over”

[Cult Warrior]: “Invisible platform?”

[You]: “You know, like a platform made from glass or something? Or just Blackstone. So that you wouldn’t be able to see it clearly, like an optical illusion.”

[Cult Warrior]: “I see...”

He doesn't get it.

[Gold Wizard]: “Interesting idea. Did you try that on the floor below?”

[You]: “Huh? No why would I?”

[Gold Wizard]: “Perhaps there was an 'invisible' platform. Perhaps the riddle meant you are supposed to run and jump off the platform, instead of just walk off it. The riddles have been quite literal so far.”

[You]: “!”

Running out of ideas you and the party head back downstairs. Maybe this floor has some purpose in the future? One you just can't see yet.

[Cult Warrior]: “I can hear voices, im not wrong. They are coming from the courtyard.”

The three of you approach carefully into the South-East room to get a better look.

The [Cult Warrior] was right, the courtyard is full of... dwarfs? The [Cult Warrior] goes to ground and motions that the two of you should do the same.

[Cult Warrior]: “What the hell are those things? They look like little manlets”

[Gold Wizard]: “No idea, I have never seen anything like it before.”

[Cult Warrior]: “They are armoured and using spears, i'm not sure if I can take them if they are sapient”

[You]: “But where did they come from? And where are the [Ga Ronin]?”

The [Cult Warrior] points towards the center of the courtyard

[Cult Warrior]: “look there, they must have come out from that hole. If I had to guess they cleaned up the bugs too.”

Yes but not how close they are. Tell them we scouted ahead. If possible let them believe they're on the first floor with the skellys, but without lying.

> Tell him more information then he needs to know?

I am not sure about this one, so no to be safe.

> Betray that you don't know where you are at all?

Yes, not sure why we'd bother keeping this a secret.

>Play up the gender dynamics / act flirty?

No. We'd be terrible at it and embarrass ourselves.

>Ask who they are, where they come from, what they're doing here, and how they got that door open.
