Let’s see if anyone remembers this
--------------------------------------------------------------------
You are Gerrard Xavier, an Aspiring Duelist who ended up in the top 4 of the Kaibacorp Begginers Tournament. There, you were one of the first to encounter a new kind of a Duel Monster - the mysterious Xyz. Now you've entered the Medium Level tournament, determined to move on further and eventually duel the very best.

Since the new tournament started you got a GF (r-right?), witnessed legends duel and finally got to use your mysterious one-of-a-kind Synchro Monster, Void Ogre Dragon, who seems to be connected to the vampiric Xyz monsters currently appearing around the world.
Something’s wrong. You are pretty sure you were having a duel, but now…
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Cold
You are floating in midair. The world around you is dark, but you faintly see outlines of large objects all around you. Somehow, you feel like you’ve been here for a really long time.
Cold
This is no doubt a weird situation, but not wholly unfamiliar, is it? You’ve had dreams like this multiple times throughout the last week, but never quite this…
Cold
Your eyes slowly adjust to the darkness around you. The void still seems quite infinite, but the other floating objects become somewhat more visible.
Cold
Uprooted Buildings. Skyscrapers, cars, a bridge, all in various stages of disintegration, along with vast amounts of smaller debris.
Cold
In addition to all that, humongous blocks of what you assume to be ice are also scattered everywhere, filling you with dread when you gaze upon them. In some closer ones, you can see shapes of things frozen within, but most of them remain completely unknowable to you.
Cold
But wait, if you’re floating in a void with no visible light sources, how can you see the details on the buildings? You start trying to look around, which proves difficult in your current situation. Moving your joints proves extremely difficult at first, as if they were frozen, but with time you manage to regain the full range of motion. With the first flap of your wings in what seems like a millenium, you finally manage to turn around and see what you were looking for right next to you.
Cold

Cont.
>>
What you find seems to be just another block of ice at first, albeit somewhat darker than the other ones. As you soon notice, it seems to be emitting some sort of dim, eerie radiance, the same one that allowed you to recognize the objects around you.
Cold
If the other blocks of ice were big, this is a completely different class. In whichever direction you look, it seems to go on as far as you can see, disappearing in the infinite vastness in which you are trapped.
Cold
You look into the cyclopean block, and within you see vague outlines of shapes you can’t understand. As you stare deeper and deeper
Cold
The eye opens
COLD
The whole structure shakes, and starts to shatter. Before you can understand what’s happening, you are hit with something of great power and fly back. While heading away, you see the structure completely fall apart, leaving in its place 3 imposing shapes. The largest seemingly gazes in your direction with all of its three heads, then roars. The sound it makes is chilling, but not only metaphorically. As the soundwave catches up to you, the cold you were floating in just seconds ago seems hot in comparison. You feel the freeze infiltrate your scales and quickly lose all remaining feeling in your wings, tail, and soon enough all limbs.
You keep on flying at high speed for a long time, until you finally hit something. As you start losing consciousness, you see the dreadful trio spread their wings and leave for parts unknown.
-errie?!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
You feel cold.
You wake up on the ground, your head hurting strongly from the back. Must have hit it when you fell. The world around you is blurry, a flurry of colours and shapes that seem to be approaching you. Wait, didn't you have wings just a second ago?
Gerard!
You focus on the source of the voice, now just over your head. After some adjustment, you see a girl with beautiful red eyes kneeling next to you with a mix of concern and terror written all over her face. You can't say for sure yet, but you think she has tears in her eyes. When she notices you looking in her direction, her mood changes ever so slightly as she musters up a faint smile.
Gerrard! Gerrie...
The relief in her voice is almost tangible. You feel something wet hit your nose and cheek. Your head is lifted, very delicately, and soon enough lying on something far less rough than concrete.
You weren't... You weren't breathing for some time, I thought that...
She starts calming down again, while you look around, but not too many. In the distance you seem some similar gatherings, as if multiple small commotions.
...Is everything ok? How do you feel? Do you know what happened?
The girl tries to regain her composure.
How do you respond?

>...why?
You were weaker than you realized, as you barely managed to spurt out a single word. You do feel some of your lifeforce slowly coming back to you, but at a real snail's pace. It's gonna be a while before you attempt getting up again.
I... I don't know what happened... I was so scared...
You can see she is somewhat relieved hearing you speak again, but still visibly shaken.
...We were having a tag duel with Weevil and Rex, remember?
She points at the dorks in question. With some effort you look in that direction, and see Rex Raptor sitting on the ground, with Weevil Underwood standing over him, visibly hiding how worried about his only friend he really is.
You were playing out your turn and then... I don't know why, but then you stopped. I thought you were thinking at first, but then I looked at your face and I knew something was off.
You look back at the girl. You know her. Her name is...
Remember that time we dueled after... after we had an argument? Back then, you phased out for some time, and today you looked just like that. But that wasn't the end...
Wisteria! Of course you remember her, you... She... You...
I suddenly felt a strong chill all around me, like if the temperature dropped below zero in a flash, and it kept getting colder. And then the hologram projectors started acting off; not only yours, everyone's... The images got distorted, at first... then they were replaced with some weird images for like a split second. And then there was only light, blinding and white.
She's your girlfriend, right? I mean, you held hands, hugged and even kissed, but did you ever establish that you're properly together?
I don't know how long that lasted, but when it finally stopped, I felt weak, as if I hadn't slept in 2 years or something, and so dizzy I almost fell over. And then... And then I saw you just fall, as if shot in the head or something. Not only you, I saw many other people dueling just a minute ago fall at the same time. I head your head hit the pavement, so I ran towards you, and you... you... you weren't breathing...
She starts crying more strongly again. You've got to calm her down somehow, as her... rival?

You start moving, intending to hug Wisteria, but still simply lack the force to lift yourself. She notices you struggling and looks at you.
>I had a vision, but I’m starting to feel better now.
A vision? What... Do you...
>We’ll figure out what’s going on.
Putting all your strength into one move, you manage. As you wrap your arms around her, she hugs you back so hard you end up back on the ground. Still hugged tho.
I'm sorry...
You stroke her back softly on the back to say it's ok. She slowly starts calming down, tho the clothes on your arm are already wet all the way through.
You... You weren't breathing for a while, you know... I got real worried, from what I saw other people who fell were getting back up or at least sitting, but you... When I touched your face, it was cold as ice. I was terrified.
You stroke her back a little more firmly to help her calm down fully. You just lay there, hugging for some time, while your forces slowly come back. Whenever somebody tries to approach, you tell them with your gaze that everything's ok and you'd rather not be disturbed right now.

From the distance, you hear a chopper. Thanks to it, you remember now. It's Sunday, you're in the middle of the KaibaCorp Medium level tournament that runs before the Battle City Anniversary. Seto Kaiba himself appeared, saying that he won't be able to attend the finals so he wants to spice up the competition before he leaves. He revealed the names of the top 10 players, which included Wisteria, and said that beating them scores you four times the score from now on. You decided to help her defend herself, and then... this happened.

You see Kaiba's chopper coming back from the direction it disappeared in. You assume it's heading in the direction of the Kaiba Dome. Does this mean he'll attend the finals after all.

You think she fully stopped crying, but is still hugging you.

Somewhat reluctantly she lets go of you, as if afraid you're going to die again if she does.
You've managed to save some strength already, but getting on your feet and staying there was still a job and a half for both of you.

During the process, you finally saw your duel disk. Your Void Ogre Dragon was still there, just as before, but around it you could see some dark marks. If you didn't know better, you'd think it's soot or some other heat mark, but it's probably just dirty from when you fell over.
Additionally, you notice that all the screens and lights on the machine are dark, including the battery diode. It's either somehow fully spent, or broken. You'll worry about that later.

Where to now, princess?
Wisteria cracks a joke, which is good. Things might be coming back to normal. She supports you standing from under your arm for now, but you have a feeling you'll be able to walk by yourself soon enough. Finally up, you noticed some stuff in your surroundings changed when you weren't paying attention.

Most notably, some ambulances arrived near the scene, and paramedics have their hands full already. You think you can also spot a familiar looking van from the distance, it's kind of too far away to tell for sure. As for more immediate surroundings, it seems Rex and Weevil have moved onto a nearby bench and are already making fun of someone, even though one of them can still barely walk.

Well, where to now?
>Check on Rex and Weevil, we were in the middle of a duel after all.
>Screw those guys, I should probably go to the paramedics, check if I'm ok to go and maybe learn some stuff.
>Speaking of learning, Mokuba should know something by now, let's go to the Van.

"I think I can see Mokuba's van from here." You respond after going over all options in your head "It's a little far away, but I think I can manage to walk there now. I'll lead the way."
You point in the general direction, but no matter how much Wisteria squints, she doesn't see a thing.

"I sure hope you're not seeing things again, Gerrie." She cracks another joke, her tone still tellingly somber. "But of course, after you".
You make your way to the van, albeit incredibly slowly. You have to make a couple stops near the beginning to catch your breath, but the further you get the stronger steps you make.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You don't even have to go all the way, as it turns out. Mokuba is going between paramedics and the affected. Does he really need to do everything around here?

"I'm kind of busy right now, as you probably see." He waves you off initially, before noticing Wisteria. "Oh, right. I should have known."
He quickly gestures at his bodyguards to change her and help you onto a bench. Wisteria is once again hesitant to let you go, but when she finally does you notice she looks really worn out. She didn't complain even once, unlike the guard helping you. He remembers you, and doesn't intend to make this any more comfortable to you than necesarry.

"Since you sought me out specifically, I assume you want to know what's going on, and once again, I wish I could tell you. All I know so far that around..." He checks his phone and doesn't hide surprise. "2 hours ago, time sure does fly. Around 2 hours ago something completely overloaded our local Dueling Network Hub."
You ask if that's why your duel disk died.

"Show it to me." He analyses it quickly with the eye of an expert.

"It's completely fried! Ugh, as if Seto didn't give me enough crap already today..." Mokuba seems strongly distressed, must have been a long day. He gives you back all the cards and orders a guard to take it to the van for later study. "As you surely noticed, at the same time as the data surge, we also had a case of mass fainting among our players. I have no idea where that came from, but between you and me the faces of the ones I see sick are strikingly familiar, as if I collected cards from them recently, if you know what I mean." He tells you the last part in a far quieter manner.

"Do you have anything else you wanna ask, or can I go back to work before my brother kills me?"
>Yes, [write in

"Just thought I’d let you know that I had vivid visions of ice and monsters while I was out, in case that helps.”

"...I was afraid you were going to say something vaguely ominous like that. Anything else?" he didn't seem surprised at all by your information. He must have experience in the field. "Anything else?"

”I’m going to go get some rest. Good luck man.” Mokuba nods and disappears back into his work so fast you almost doubt if he was even ever really here. The guard approaches you again, probably to help you get up, but you wave him off and show him you can stand on your own now. He leaves you alone without commenting, probably afraid that Mokuba might still be close.

You turn to search for Wisteria, and there she is, one just the next bench over, still somewhat worried by the expression on her face. She jumps up instantly when you lose your balance for a second, but after you gesture to her that it's ok now she doesn't hide relief.

"Wanna go grab some food?"

"Shouldn't you be resting? Or at least talk to a doctor?" It's not only her expression that's visibly worried, but after some assurances she agrees. "Ok, where do you intend on taking me out to then?"

Well shit, you don't really know that many good places to eat around here. What do you do?

"I was thinking about Cafe la Geen. Would you go for some cheesecake?

"Sure, I'd love to." Now that she's calmed down, she seems somewhat awkward. Maybe she's embarrassed of how worried she got?
You start walking in the direction of the cafe, but soon enough you lose your balance again ever so slightly. Before you even get the chance to properly regain it, Wisteria has already grabbed your arm strongly and supportively. Looking at her, you see her blushing and averting your gaze, but faintly smiling. You have no idea what's making her happy after such a long day, but decide to roll with it.

As you get even further away from the City Square, you catch pieces of Seto Kaiba's televised speech in the distance. You feel sorry for Mokuba, as his big brother seems awash with anger. No wonder, it's his tournament that's being hijacked. He must be worried about the main event.
You learn that all play is suspended for at least the rest of the day, so that they can investigate what happened and deal with the damage. Players will be compensated for their inconveniences, and the company will focus all its resources on preventing future incidents.

Good luck with that.
-----------------------------------------------
You eat the cheesecake mostly in silence. It's still decent. Wisteria isn't talkative at all today, only taking slow bites from her meal and looking at you from time to time. Someone unfamiliar with the situation could think she's sulking. At the same time, she persistently keeps her feet right next to yours under the table, in a manner that makes sure that you are being kept aware of her doing that. You're not really a person for small talk, so the silence doesn't bother you much. Guess she must be tired.

When it comes time to pay for your order, you freeze. You don't have any cash on you, and Mokuba still has your duel disk, so electronic payment is out of the question.

"I was wondering how long it will take for you to thinks about this." Wisteria turns to the cashier, with not a sign of annoyance. "Don't worry, my duel disk didn't get fried, so I can pay. And no, I don't mind at all."
Now it's your turn to get embarrassed.
--------------------------------------------
As you arrive at the hotel, you notice that somehow it's getting late already. You wonder when all that time went. Your walking might have come back to normal by now, but you have a feeling you'll doze off as soon as you touch your bed with even a finger.

As you go to enter the hotel, Wisteria is once again hesitant to let go of your arm, and instead walks further along. You stop in the lobby, perplexed. Didn't she have her own flat in the city?
>Politely explain that you're tired and need some rest, so it's time to tell your goodbyes for the day.
>Thank her for the time she spent with you today, but ask if she isn't tired and wouldn't like to go back to her place?

This sort of thing is much harder than dueling, I’m glad you guys have taken the lead here.
>>
"Umm... Do you want to come in?"
She just nods absentmindedly. It seems she's just incredibly tired. You take the lift and go towards your room. As you open the door, she takes the lead.

She goes in first, takes off her duel disk and bag, puts them next to the bed, throws herself right on top of said bed, and promptly falls asleep. She doesn't even cover herself, must be too tired. Seeing this you remember her telling you that, while she didn't faint, she was still notably drained by whatever happened today. Adding to that everything that happened later, it's no wonder that she's completely drained. You put away your bag, take off your shoes, cover the girl with a blanket and lay down next to her. Your fatigue kills you like a truck and don't even notice that you doze off.
-------------------------------------------------------
You are woken up by very faint weeping. You wrap your arm around Wisteria, and the sounds cease. Dreams claim you again not long after.
-------------------------------------------------------
You dream of floating again, only this time it's actually not that cold. Instead of infinite darkness, all you can see around you is white.
Before you floats a dark figure. Even though you're relatively close, you find it hard to see anything because of all the blinding light that surrounds you. Whoever the nightly visitor is, he's far bigger than you, and you think his scales are coloured in crimson.
"They are crossing."
-------------------------------------------------------

MONDAY

You are woken up by a knock on the door. You look at the clock and see it's just before 6 am, and Wisteria for her part still remains in the dream realm. The knocking repeats once more, followed by some rumbling, then increasingly distant steps. You wonder if the hotel staff wanted something from you. You could check what it was about now, but then again, it's really early. You could probably use some more rest.

You decide to get up as quietly as you can. Wisteria moves a little and produces a sound when you take back your hand, but other than that stays asleep.

You head to the door. When you open it, you see a long box and a letter.

To Gerrard

Still don't really understand what caused the overload, but after pulling and all-nighter I am pretty confident that our new safeguards and limiters can stop anything like this in the future.

As for your duel disk, it was beyond fixing, as were a couple dozen others in the city. As such we are providing you with replacements. Don't get surprised when you open it, it's the DC Retro Anniversary Model, which is going to be released along with the start of the main anniversary tournament next week. It might look old, but it's got all the newest tech crammed into it. Additionally, all players are getting 800 dp and a premium pack as compensation for the inconvenience. You will find all included within the box.

The tournament resumes at 12 today, with a speech from my brother addressing yesterday's events. It's best to be there, he's going to clarify some things.
Mokuba
PS. I thought you might want to see the thing I put on the bottom sooner rather than later, since it's coming out on Thursday. Wasn't my idea.

You drag the box in and open it. The machine somehow looks old and cutting edge at the same time.

As for the other contents...

Spellbook Magician of Prophecy - Rare
X-Saber Airbellum - Rare
Dragunity Knight Vajrayana - Super Rare

Honestly I wanna change up our deck. Like, we were damn good in the first half of the tourney but I'm kinda getting paranoid. We need to improve our deck something fierce man.

Necroworld Banshee, more Uni-Zombies, Shiranui Solitaire, Glow Up Bloom, Tatsunecro, Doomking Balerdroch... getting rid of Mezuki was a terrible idea man. Our deck plays like it's from 2012 with this Il-Blud stuff man. It HURTS and I'm terrified we'll go on another losing streak.

You chose pancakes for Wisteria and Sandwiches for yourself.
You take the food back to the room on a big wooden board. When you put it down on the ground to open the door, you hear some commotion inside. Worried, you open quickly, but all you see is that some of your stuff got moved slightly and Wisteria herself is very strongly pretending to be asleep. Cute. You pick the board back up, walk in and close the door after you.
"Wake up, princess, breakfast's ready!" You decide this to be the appropriate jab for her calling you a princess yesterday.
She opens her eyes very slowly, pretending only to wake up now. As soon as she sees the pancakes though, the act gets dropped. She sits up instantly, childish joy on her face. You might have made the right choice.
"Thanks, Gerrie!" She takes her plate and digs in instantly. She really does love sweets.
You start eating your sandwiches, they're ok too I guess, but nothing can compare to how much your... rival is enjoying her pancakes.

Also, I’m kinda happy to let the power creep in a little slower, it lets you see a lot more variety in cards.

Like, even though “Pumprincess, The Princess of Ghosts” isn’t explosive, it’s a card that I’m personally fond of and fits our zombie theme but with a flavor of the monarchy theme that Wisteria’s monarchs have. "What are we right now? What do you want us to be?"

She looks up from the plate at you, eyes full of shock, cheeks full of pancake. You can't help but laugh, she can't help but blush. As you try to control yourself, she gobbles up the contents of her mouth and looks down again.

"We... I... I thought it was the guy's job to ask a girl out." She blurts out, looking down at her last pancake. And then, a jab. "Or are you still too weak after yesterday, or something?" She tries to make her voice sound cocky for the last part, with middling success. Even with her face down you can tell she's not proud of that last part, but what's said is said. Now it's your turn again.

Well *I* want us to be more serious, I just want to know you feel the same. We've been through a lot already, and I want to go through more. Together.

She's still looking down, but you're pretty sure that she can't get any redder than this without dying. She nods a couple times, then looks at you.

"Yes. I mean, I agree, I want that very much. Us going through more together, that is. And yes, I am serious. Thank you for, uhm... clarifying the situation. Haha." She makes a very awkward smile. After a short while of looking at you, she decides to hide her embarrassment in her pancakes and digs in again.

"Good"
You come over to her and give her a peck on the cheek. She doesn't resist on flinch, seems like she's trying to figure out what she's even supposed to do in this situation. You grab your stuff.

"Well then, I'll be back shortly. I need to buy some packs." You say and move to leave the room.

"Wait!" You hear her just as you shut the door. Oh well, you can continue this conversation when you come back. After all, you came to this city for cards, not girlfriends, right?

>>
>>4012009
That'd be too easy
>>
>>4011974
Gimme 3 Unchecked Growth and 5 Gravedigger

I want me some Glow Up Bulb if possible but we're looking for Shiranui Solitaire and Necroworld Banshee to help our deck.

Which of these packs would have needle worm nest Playmaker?
>>
>>4012025
You can only buy 4 of the same pack a day, as was introduced... who knows how long ago, anyways

dunno
>>
>>4012035
Oh okay then... um...

4 Grave digger and 1 Unchecked Growth.

Plus maybe a structure or another pack, what we want my bros? Zane? Zane is p gud. Cyber Dragons are cool... could go for another if I'm not retarded and can do math.
>>
>>4012045
could go for another Unchecked Growth instead if I'm not retarded and can do math*
I AM proving to be retarded tho
>>
>>4012025
How about 4 each of unchecked growth 2 and gravedigger 2? Then we’ll save up for when a structure deck catches our eye.

I was tempted to go for fusion world, but I already go for gem-knights IRL, and I think it’d be hard to get enough for a deck.
>>
>>4012056
Eeeeh sure. The tribute deck probs had like, PROTO-Cyber Dragon and fucking Cyber Ouroboros.
>>
>>4011974
I'd say 4 gravedigger, 4 dark intentions. I assume we sticking to zombies?
Should be 1080. Don't want to spend all our money, gotta pay back the club with offering food with out being able to play.

Honestly, if we get some plaguespreaders we should look hard for some D hero malicious. Good way to get 8.
>>
>>4012077
I'd normally agree with'chu but Glow Up Bulb is to a Zombie Engine what a V-tec is to a supra.

Or what no am I reading it wrong and it says Glow up BULB not BLOOM? Cause if it's BULB fuck that I'm seitching to this guy.
>>
>>4012089
Oh, I thought we were gonna build a plant deck.
>>
>>4012101
Nah we sticking to Zombos for now. I wanna make Rescue Cat proud of us bug I fear we walk a dark path...

Anyways maming it official,
4 Gravedigger IIs and 4 Dark Intentions II

Also can we look for people who want to trade incase we pull copies? This is a TRADING Card Game after all.
>>
>>4012089
Both are good to be fair. I also think we shouldn't forget about our other deck either tho. Unfortunately synchro made me quit the game until tellarknights, so I've no idea if there was a beast, plant, zombie deck that could work.
Also, I'm still under the assumption we are meant to get infernity as our destined deck, but I don't know what's changed with the hiatus. Can we juggle 3 or more decks in a reasonable way?
>>
>>4012117
Well we technicaly already are, seeing as how we have a machine deck, a beast deck, and a Zombie deck all in one place. See the pastebin above.
>>
>>4012107
Sure, 4 of each of these then.
>>
>>4012121
Oh yeah... forgot about the machines...

Are we really gonna pour resources into that? Figured that'll be more a momento at this point.
>>
>>4012138
Would you really relegate this face to a memento?

He's our duel spirit guys. Look at him. He believes in us! We gotta find a way out from this darkness, even if it does get us wins.
>>
>>4012138
You know, I haven’t figured out the mechanics of it yet, but I wonder what’d Happen if we put the whole machine deck on the card altar?
>>
>>4012153
Nani?! I ment the machine deck. As it was the deck that started us down this path. I'm all for finding a place for prime pussy, but he doesn't mesh well with our boss Mon atm.
>>
>>4012162
I think it's more quality than quantity.
>>
>>4012173
Ooooh, in which case nah, fuck it. Machine deck is kinda useless at this point.

Playmaker gib Glow Up Bloom.
>>
>>4012174
Fair enough, and I don’t want to get rid of the staple spell and traps that came with it anyways.
>>
Also, it dawned on me earlier that I've a rare opportunity.

Qm, if you read this, I'd like to apologize. Rereading earlier threads reminded me that I was part of the replies that I felt were part of the reason you put the game on hold. I want you to know I never ment to come off as trying to strong arm you into anything, it was ment to be simple banter.

This honestly bugged me for a good month or two, so I'm glad I got the chance to say this.
>>
>>4012202
What?
Sorry, it might be cause it's after 4 am, but I honestly don't remember anyone "strongarming" me or anything, I always saw my reasons for quitting more personally for the most part.

Also I'll generate you the 8 packs you asked for now
>>
>>4012214
Dat's good. The timing just seemed to perfect at the time. Not the reason you stopped, but at least I don't feel guilty.

You change some of your old cards for the new Zombie support, hoping that improves your deck.

You decide to head back to the hotel.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

As you come back into your room, you get hit with a pillow, directly in your face. Nice aim.

"First you say all that stuff, and then you just walk out?! What's your problem, dumbass?! Geez..." Wisteria pouts at you, still sitting on the bed. Now that ypu think of it, you were gone for some time, it's almost 10 now. You can see that your girfriend has entertained herself by working on her deck, as you see all her cards splayed out on top of your bedsheets. You notice that the only black card you see is put on a separate pile to the side. You walk in and take down your duel disk and bag.

"We still haven't talked about yesterday, you know. I know you know something, talking to Mokuba and getting a letter... Which I didn't read, by the way, I thought you'd explain the situation to me yourself. But you left instead, leaving me in the dark."

She's still pouting slightly, but you hear the worry in her voice again.

You should probably do something about that?

>What do you say/do?

>I'm sorry. That wasn't fair to you. I'll try to be better next time. The whole Mokuba situation, it's... it's complicated.

Sorry, I was asleep.

Also, this sounds mostly good but it doesn’t really address the ditching her thing, does it?

Maybe something like:

“Sorry about rushing off, I knew that Kaiba will be declaring the tournament back on and I wanted to buy packs first so I can make sure I pull my weight in our double battles. I guess I was overeager, and I’m sorry.

Mokuba says something overloaded the duel network. He doesn’t know what but he says it shouldn’t happen again. I’m certain it was something spiritual. I just don’t know what to do with that information.”

“Sorry about rushing off, I knew that Kaiba will be declaring the tournament back on and I wanted to buy packs first so I can make sure I pull my weight in our double battles." She raises her eyebrow. The logic behind your priorities doesn't seem to speak to her that well. "I guess I was overeager, and I’m sorry." As you can see that just saying sorry didn't help that much, you sit down next to her and proceed to explain the situation.

"Mokuba says something overloaded the duel network. He doesn’t know what but he says it shouldn’t happen again. I’m certain it was something spiritual. I just don’t know what to do with that information.” You continue, going into detail about your experiences with the Xyz monsters and how they seem to affect people negatively. You explain on and on, allowing Wisteria to ask additional questions and answering them to your best knowledge. Before you know it, it's almost 11 and you've pretty much caught he up on everything, from how you came to contact with Mokuba to the weird way your own Dragon seems to be tied to this all.

" I'm sorry for having left you in the dark. That wasn't fair to you. " You decide to try apologizing again, hoping that the whole context of the situation will make her see you in a better light. "I know I said I wanted this to be serious but I didn't want to put you in danger, especially not when you came so close to that danger already." This time she seems to react far better, the last sentence especially making her smile, which you find to be an odd reaction. "Do you forgive me?"
Instead of answering, she leans in quickly and kisses you. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. You don't hesitate to return the gesture, but she pulls back, indicating that it's her turn to say something.

"You understood and admitted where you screwed up, and you finally told me what's going on here. I see no reason for me to be mad at you right now, especially since it's not something I want. But -" She gesticulates with her index finger in front of your face, telling you to pay attention. You see determination in her eyes. "- we have to make something clear right now, Gerrie."

Cont.
>>
"I am not going to be your princess to be protected, or whatever other type of damsels in distress you like. Not only can I take care of myself, let me remind you that, as far as I know, I'm still a better duelist than you are." She boops your nose with the index finger. "And, as you might have noticed, I'm also concerned about you. Soooo, from now on, whenever you get involved into more mystical mumbo-jumbo or whatever, I want to know. If we are really going to take this seriously, then I want to be your partner, not some possession to be protected. Are we clear?" She looks into your eyes so intently you feel as if she's actually reading your soul. You notice a tension in the air that surely wasn't here just seconds ago, and you know that successfully lying to this girl would be quite impossible for you. That is, if you wanted to, of course.

You nod, and with her beautiful smile you forget about the tension that was so suffocating a moment ago. You get a quick peck on the lips and a hug, after which she turns around and starts gathering up her cards.

" I also got the message on my duel disk that we are restarting the tournament at 12. Better not miss it, right?" She talks cheerfully as she packs. You see her sole Xyz monster being put into a separate place from the deck, so you assume she took what you told her to heart. You gaze back at the clock, and see that it's still barely 11 am. With a mere 10 minute walk from here to the City Square, your probably still have time do to something else.

What is your action?
>Go to the square early, maybe you could get some more information there.
>Go somewhere else first, we could go shopping/get ice cream/ who knows what else and we'll still be on time.
>Talk to Wisteria some more (about what?)
>Propose a quick, no-stakes duel for warm-up.
>Weeeelll... You've made up, she's officially your girlfriend now and you still have time before you need to leave your room... You could use it for some quality time together, who knows when the next chance will be.
>>
>>4013520
>Go to the square early, maybe you could get some more information there.

Did we pull anything that would work in her deck? Might be a good way to transition into further conversation. Hell, ask her about any changes, to help out in tag team games.
>>
You decide that it would be best for you to go to the Main Square early, giving you the chance to talk to people before the intense dueling starts. Wisteria agrees with your idea, and you both head out.

You don't rush there, instead enjoying a calm walk with your girlfriend while holding hands.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

You arrived around 35 minutes before the event starts again. You're not the first one to get here, not by far, but you do see some familiar faces, and even some your recognize from the TV...

As far as normal people you know personally go, so far you saw Taku, Ida, Lily, Joe, Rafael and No Money Yayoi.

In terms of actual Pro Players, you recognize Syrus Truesdale, Alexis Rhodes and Bastion Misawa, who are standing together and seem to be waiting for someone. You're also pretty sure you saw two more people on TV once, but can't remember their names. One of them is a thin guy with black, spiky hair and an equally black jacket. The other one is even thinner with Green Hair and a really tacky purple shirt with black stripes.

There's also currently around 20 people you've never seen before, with more coming every minute. As time passes, more familiar faces should appear, but the forming crowd might eventually hamper your ability to find anyone specific. Your time before the dueling is limited, so who do you approach first.

>One of the people you played before. (which?)
>One of the Pros. (which?)
>Try your luck and talk to those you don't know yet, maybe they know something.
>Talk to Wisteria instead, that's more fun. Let's sit down, enjoy the nice day, and maybe someone will walk up to us instead.
>You could still make it to the Cardshop and back before the playing starts...

You look around and don't notice anyone who seems either suspicious or potentially informative. At a loss, you decide to sit down and talk to your girlfriend instead. If anything suspicious happens, you'll notice, and if anyone wants to talk to you, they're free to. Talking to Wisteria is far more fun than running around and asking people about esoteric stuff anyways.

You quickly remind yourself of what Wis herself knows about the subject, which is once again, not much. She can only tell you that her Photon Strike Bounzer came to her when she was most angry at you, appearing out of nowhere in what she can only describe as a flash-storm, and that since then up until you beat her Bounzer with your Dragon she thought she was hearing voices riling her up against you. All things you already knew. She adds that the card seems perfectly safe to her right now, or at least that's what her gut tells her, but she took it out anyways because she doesn't really think it matches her deck's strategy.

After the topic dries up, you move towards a more casual mode of conversation. After all, putting aside the looming threat to your lives, you should be able to enjoy some time with your girlfriend, right? As you've not been together that long, the topic turns towards your non-cardgame related interests. It turns out that you have a decent amount of common ground all around, however there is some topics you just can't agree with her on. For example, her taste in music. How can she say that good music died in the last century? Who even listens to rock anymore anyways? Nevertheless, the conversation remains quite pleasant, just the off-time you need between trying to win a tournament and figure out some insane magical conspiracy.

As time passes, you start suspecting that your duo might have started radiating that specific kind of field, typical for young couples. You know, the one which makes others, especially singles, circumnavigate you in order to better preserve their sanity. And considering this is a card game tournament, singles are never in short supply.

Then finally, one brave soul decides to approach your AT Field. Sadly, instead of anyone helpful, it's Henry, your childhood rival.

You theorize that the reason he approaches you right now is precisely because you're talking to Wisteria.
"Are my eyes deceiving me, Gerrard? You, talking to a girl?" Of course. His tone makes you want to punch him already, but hey, self-control, right? "Don't take this personally, but you don't ever have anything interesting to say anyways, right? Seeing a complete loser like you bore a girl, especially one this pretty, just makes me sad." He turns to Wisteria. "Hey beautiful, I'm sorry you've had to listen to this introvert mumble. There's still some time before the tournament, so how about I treat you to some Ice Cream? You won't regret it." You inhale.

This motherfucker right here.
>Ignore the slight, ask if he's seen anything suspicious.
>Verbal defense (Write in or at least some main points, but make it snappy)
>"You, me, Duel, now."
>Nah fuck this, lets punch his teeth out.

Hey Playmaker, help me remember something, didn't we beat Henry the last time we faced him? Or are we actually 3 wins 1 loss? If so:

>Verbal defense
>You better put your money where your mouth is Henry, cause the first time I beat you you ran away crying like a baby, and the last time I didn't even bother turning around to see you cry. You wanna make our score 4 to 1? Or are you too scared?

This way we can goad him into summoning his XYZs if he has one, cause lets face it, he totally does.
>>
>>4015798
>Verbal defense (Write in or at least some main points, but make it snappy)

>”How rude of me, I haven’t introduced you. Henry, this is my girlfriend Wisteria. Wisteria, this is Henry, my childhood rival.”

>”I hope your deck has improved more than your manners, Henry. There’s been some sinister spirits in some of the cards at this tournament.”
>>
>>4015868
You did beat him last time, but he also got 1 win on you in season 1. Moreover, it was estabilished at the start that at the beginning of the tournament he had the advantage of 2 wins over you, so it's not like you're in the lead.

>>
>>4015986
What I'm saying is that even if you have an advantage it's not substantial, and that's a thing that historically shifts between you two anyways so rubbing it in his face won't be that effective.
>>
guys, wisteria literally just said we're not her damsel to protect, im pretty sure shes gonna take a dump on him
>>
>>4015997
Ah I see.

>>4016024
Good point. Lets adjust so that Wisteria can ptoperly emasculate his ass.
>>
If anything, Wisteria will defend our honor.
>>
" How rude of me, I haven’t introduced you. Henry, this is my girlfriend Wisteria. Wisteria, this is Henry, my childhood rival." You maintain your cool, to his visible surprise. He surely thought it'd be easier to provoke you. Wisteria, for her part, bows slightly when introduced, her expression an attempt to mask fury if you ever saw one. Somehow you know she's disappointed you didn't let her respond. ”I hope your deck has improved more than your manners, Henry. There’s been some sinister spirits in some of the cards at this tournament.”

"There you go off again, about your nerdy occult bullshit. Typical Gerrard, as boring as you can be..." It seems that instead of listening to you, he waited for an opening to jab at you again. He turns back to Wisteria. "Now, where were we, darling..."

"If I hear one more sentence like that from you, I will knock your teeth out." You are both blindsided by Wisteria's response. Her words cut through the air like shards of glass, and it seems to you that the temperature drops as fast as in your dreams. Somehow Wisteria manages to deliver her line with a mix of composure and what sounds like plain killing intent. This alone makes Henry take two steps back, as if she already punched him. Having lost all his momentum, it takes him a while to reform, but he turns back to you and tries one more time. His mistake.

"What is this Gerrard, did you get yourself a nann-." The only reason he still has those teeth are the two steps backwards he made. He managed to just barely dodge the punch, sending him a couple steps backwards once again. "W-w-what the Shadow Realm is your problem?!"

"I warned you." Wisteria says coldly and takes a step forward, prompting a response of two more back from Henry. "Just who do you think you are, talking like that to my Gerrie? I bet you're just trying to make up for your insecurities about how bad your dueling skills are compared to my boyfriend. You probably wouldn't be able to duel your way out of a playground with all three God Cards in your deck." For a second you thought she was actually going to kill him, but now she seems to be taunting. All the bored duelist around you have already smelled blood in the water and are looking in your direction with interest. This is bad.

>Let Wisteria decide
>>
After thinking on your actions for some time, you decide to let Wisteria decide what happens next.

"Hey, Wis-"
"I've got this, Gerrie." Unlike when she speaks to Henry, you sense no hostility at all, but the sheer firmness in her voice makes you instantly stop. She's got this.

"Sure you do. Prepare to eat your words, you psychotic bitch!" Wisteria doesn't respond to the taunt, instead deploying her duel disk. Seeing this, Henry takes his position and does the same. For the first time today, the KaibaCorp Solid Vision activates before your eyes, with the air between the two duelists sparking briefly in all colours of the rainbow before returning to normal.

"Duel! " "Duel!"

TURN 1
HENRY 4000
WISTERIA 4000

"I'll go first!" Henry draws 5 cards, looks at them briefly and grins.
"First, I activate Unexpected Dai! I Special Summon my X-Head Cannon in attack mode!" The monster appears from thin air, with a crack of electrical lightning and clang of metallic armor. Henry reaches for another cards.
"Next, I activate my field spell, Union Hangar, allowing me to search my deck for my Y-Dragon Head, which I normal summon! Now thanks to the other effect of my Union Hangar, I am able to equip my Z-Metal Tank to my Y-Dragon Head directly from my deck!" He's grinning, teeth bared, as if he just won the whole tournament. You know what comes next, and so does the crowd, with many members visibly excited.

"And now, little miss, I think you know what comes next! While I have all three of those cards on the field, I can combine them into a much more powerful form!" He hypes himself up, with the public supporting that fully. "Now, I banish my X-Head Cannon, Y-Dragon Head and Z-Metal Tank and Fusion Summon..." The three monster's holograms come together, panels shifting and gears grinding, with Kaiba's technology making it seem as if it was actually possible.

"Xyz-Dragon Cannon!" The appearance of one of Seto Kaiba's all-time most iconic monsters makes many in the crowd cheer with approval. "And, as a finishing touch, I'll throw in a face-down card to make sure you can't get over my monster! Now, are you gonna give up now, or are you gonna beg me for mercy later?" He continues with the taunts.

Wisteria is unfazed.
"Playing tough, huh? Pass!"

Cont
>>
He really did leave himself with one facedown worth of defense. He threw four cards into getting a 2600 atk beater that he can’t attack with or use its effect until 2 turns later. A lot of flash without much planning.
>>
TURN 2
HENRY 4000
WISTERIA 4000

When Wisteria goes to draw the card for the turn, you can almost physically feel the determination radiating off her. Still, she remains calm, in spite of the powerful boss monster eyeing her down.
"Draw!" Once again, you could swear you saw sparks following the card in the air as she draws. She inspects the newest acquisition for a split second, then instantly reveals it to her opponent.

" I activate the effect of Mithra the Thunder Vassal from my hand! By special summoning a Vassal Token to your side of the field, I can special summon Mithra to mine." Two balls of lightning seem to fall from the sky, one to Henry's field, one to Wisteria's. From them, two slender, womanly figures in somewhat familiar armor appear. You don't recognize this card, must be a new addition.

"Thanks for the monster!" Henry responds. "I don't have a use for it, but I'll get to hit you with it next turn!" Once again, Wis is unfazed.

"Now, I tribute my Mithra to summon Caius, the Shadow Monarch!" You see Wisteria's star monster rise from the ground, it's ball of nothingness pulsating and ready to go. " With my monster's effect, I banish your face-down card!" And there it goes, the void-ball flies and passes through the floating Face-Down on Henry's side of the field, creating a gaping hole into which the rest of the card soon disappears. Henry moves his Mirror Force straight to his banished pile.

"Big Deal, my monster still blows yours out of the water! You talk big game, but you don't even know what the right target is!"
"I'm not done yet! Thanks to Mithra's effect, I can tribute summon one more monster this turn! Therefore, I tribute my Caius to bring forth its evolved form! Infernal lord, meet death and come back more powerful than ever! I call upon..." The crowd cheers again, this time for Wisteria.

"Caius, the Mega Monarch! With its effect, I am able to banish any two of your cards and inflict a 1000 damage directly to you. I choose your two monsters." Xyz-Dragon Cannon and the Vassal Token meet the same fate as Henry's Mirror Force.

Henry 4000 ->3000
"That's nice, but you still don't have enough damage on board to beat me this turn!"

"That's why I now Banish my Caius, the Shadow Monarch in my grave to special summon Lucius, The Shadow Vassal in attack position. Battle! I attack you with both my monsters!"

Henry 3000 ->0
WISTERIA WINS

---------------------------------------
Henry tries to play it off cool, approaching Wisteria to give her a hand and congratulate her, but she just glares at him and he backs down.

Truth be told, you never realized Wisteria can be this scary. As you stand behind her, you still feel incredible resolve radiating from her as she keeps glaring at your beaten rival. You decide to approach her.
>What do you say to her?

You know, I can’t help but keep thinking we should put in a couple of those bone crushers...

Maybe swap out a nobleman of extermination and a Rush Recklessly? Once we have, say, a lvl 4 zombie xyz it’ll be more appealing but I think it might be worth it already.

God, I know we *should* take out pumprincess but I just love her.
>>
Also, it looks like more good zombie cards have been printed since the last thread. Cards I’m amped to play.

I think I really like developing Gerrie in the occultist/spiritualist direction. Kinda works with our two main decks being necromancy and druidism too.
>>
>>4017182
I so badly wanna pull Doomking one of these days. I doubt it'll happen but still, imagine a free banish every turn for when you activate a Zombie effect.

Personally I hope we nab a 3rd Zombie World.

>>
>>4017317
I think that’s fair, but what are we gonna do? On a certain level, quick effects have become fairly central to gameplay, and if our opponents have access to them and we don’t, we’re gonna be super feast-or-famine in our games.
>>
"Goddamn you're pretty when you kick ass. Then again, you're always pretty." As you say that, you realize that you're the first person to speak since the duel's conclusion, as the other spectators were engulfed in awed silence. In effect, all eyes turn towards you. Awkward.

Wisteria spins around to face you and, like a broken spell, all the tension in the air vanishes, as does everything else around you. All you can see is her, smiling cheerfully at you, proud of herself and all the happier to share it with you. You raise your hand to offer a high five, but instead she runs at you, throws her arms around you and kisses you right there, with everyone looking. You realize that a big part of the audience just switched to glaring at you with jealousy, but right now you couldn't care less. You share the kiss, completely happy to have such a great partner.

When you finally finish, you realize Henry scurried away while you weren't looking, probably to heal his demolished pride with the use of some weaker duelists. Once again, you couldn't care less. You realize that the time till the beginning of the tournament is getting shorter and shorter, and you honestly just want to talk to Wis more, but thanks to the commotion of the last couple minutes you've both been noticed by pretty much everyone who's on the ever-filling city square.

"Hey there, lovebirds! We have unfinished business!" It's Rex Raptor and Weevil Underwood, the very two duelists you were facing yesterday, before the incident. "You've got off lucky last time, thanks to Kaiba not paying the bills for his servers, but we demand a rematch as soon as the tournament resumes!" The one speaking is Weevil, with Rex standing somewhat behind him, with less enthusiasm. You reckon he might still be filling weird after yesterday, since he was also one of the people affected by the blackout. Nevertheless, he doesn't protest, so you should probably respond.

>"You're on!"
>"Sorry, but there seems to be a lot more people who want to take a stab at us, give them a chance too!"

I totally agree. Power-Creep is a thing, and I just don't want it to jump us. Other than the future scaling issues we will no doubt run into like a brick wall and lack of activity on the player's part, this is overall pretty good!

I feel we could use more story leads than just Mokuba tho. Like, we're in the top 5 duelists, along with being in an epicenter of weird shit right? We ought to be given a hint or two it's also cause we dumb as shit and wouldn't know a story thread if it whipped us and gave us a scar.

Oh, and the purchase limit. What's up with that? Is it just so you don't have to randomly generate a million cards each time? Cause I feel we ought to be able to buy more than just 4 packs. I wanna build a Constellar deck when the XYZs hit but I doubt we can do with just 4 packs per purchase...
>>
>>4019110
Top 50 of duelists that happened to be at this tournament, which had fairly low barrier to entry. This ain’t world’s.
>>
>>4019110
The 4 card purchase limit was introduced to deaccelerate the speed of the powercreep of your deck, as well as encourage you to maybe follow more than just one path. I could be willing to remove it after this stage ends and you enter the big league.
>>
>>4019110
Also,
>Future scaling issues
I don't think I understand
>>
>>4019398
Like, we got a synchro deck, but you're introducing XYZs which lets face it put most synchros in the ground. We wanna be able to build a ciable deck to cover our bases, but understand I mean powercreep comss for US. Like, that one dude's Lightning Chidori I think it was wrecked us, along with Wisteria's Photon Strike Bounzer.

I think the point I'm trying to make is that we're gonna go up against cards and decks in the near future that'll destroy us, simply cause we're mot properly scaling with them. I mean, you wouldn't bring a Pure Venom Deck versus True Draco or Necroz and expect to win, would you?
>>
>>4020108
We haven’t completed a duel since the quest started back up, let’s play some so we’ve got a good sense of where are skill and cards are landing us right now before we worry about tuning up or down anything.

Also, I think it’s okay if Gerard loses, especially in these early seasons while stakes are low. Like, we’ll do our best, but I don’t think we’ve narratively earned the ability to win over powerful, recent archetypes piloted by the sorts of top duelists that would own them yet.
>>
>>4020108
The Xyz monsters being better is Synchro monster is something I am acutely aware of and is actually relevant to the plot.

Meanwhile

On the outskirts of Domino city's oldest districts, a monumental construction effort is proceeding into its final stages, so far purposefully not highlighted in the media. The scale, after all, is supposed to be a surprise.

The delays seemed so overwhelming just a couple days ago, but the prolonged presence of Seto Kaiba in the city seems to have made any and all problems disappear overnight. Now, the pace at which the migrant workers are pushed to assemble this monument to the genius of human engineering would be disturbing to many, but none speak up. With Kaiba around, silence really is golden.

On an abandoned bridge nearby, a trio of duelists are some of the very few currently observing this spectacle from afar, having stopped right there during a break in their training just to get a glimpse at just what the future has in store for them. They have to admit, while inhumane, KaibaCorp can be really efficient. The extravagant racing track seems to grow on their very eyes, leaving no doubt that the WRGP finals will be able to proceed as scheduled.

After watching in solemn silence for some time, the three men restart their Duel Runners and go back to doing laps around the abandoned district of the city. They've come this close to achieving their dream and simply can't let up on their training now. They owe it both to themselves, for their years of hard work, and their fallen comrades to see this thing to a close. The finals will not be easy, but as long as they are together, nothing is beyond their reach.

After all, their strength lays in the bonds between them.

"Youre on!" Both of you shout at Weevil in exact unison, taking both him and Rex by surprise. After approximately 2 seconds of admiring your seamless synchronization, they turn to howling with laughter. Well, at least Rex is in better mood now.

You and Wisteria stand there flushed almost all the way to crimson, like a pair of very ripe cherries. The near breathless howls in front of you are not the only ridicule you are receiving right now, but at least most of the people around you attempt their snickering under her noses.

"How cute..." You hear some girl try and fail to secretly whisper to her boyfriend, not far to your right. At least that blockhead scurried away in shame long ago, because him standing next to those two idiots and howling with them would be too much.

You look to your girlfriend for help at the same exact time she looks to you. You both look down in embarrassment, and you're pretty sure the quiet laughs and "daaaaw"s around you have picked up again. Why is this such a big deal anyways.

You look at the clock again, hoping to find there a permission to beat those dweebs up and take their Lunch DP. Almost 9 more minutes, no luck there. You look around the square instead, finding the crowd to have grown exponentially since you sat down to talk with Wis- Wait, is that Jaden Yuki, running around with a big branch in his hair? No you must be seeing things. You didn't realize there even were this many duelists in the city already. The main event is going to be ridiculous at this rate.

...Finally, they're calming down. Talk about overdoing it, those idiots and their fake laughs.

>Try to get back at them somehow. What do you say?
>Leave them for now, you're going to completely sick otherwise before those 9 minutes pass. There must be someone more civilized in this crowd.

”Did you see that Wis?”
"W-what do you mean by- Hey!" You pull her away by her hand and head after the Jackalope. Any resistance is fleeting, as it's clear she wanted an excuse to get away from them as much as you did.

"Hahahah- wait, where do you think you're going? We're not done with you!" You hear Weevil throw in your direction, but it barely registers. There is someone in this crowd that looks more stupid than you just did, and you have to find him. "Heeey!" Sadly, you're being followed, still not paying attention, you push your way through.
.
.
.
.
The situation seems to have progressed since you last witnessed Jaden. He's kneeling on the ground right now, hand on his head, right in the place where the stick was lodged not that long ago. As he's facing away from you, you don't see his expression, but by the way he's going over his hair with his palm you assume there is, among other things, somewhat pained. Duelists you recognized earlier as Bastion Misawa and Alexis Rhodes stand over him, with resignation in their eyes.

You make a mental note about how, even though he looked really dumb just a second ago, nobody's laughing at Jaden. Is this the power of being respected?!

"I said WAIT, you cowards!" Weevil's somewhat distant yell sucks their attention in your direction like an overzealous vacuum cleaner. When the person you assumed to be a kid that was starting between you and Jaden turns towards you, both of you stop.

"Oh, it's you, eee..." Syrus Truesdale doesn't remember your name, obviously. You did only duel once, after all, so it's probably enough that he even remembers your face. With the other two standing pros also looking in your direction, you guess it's time for some introductions.

Wis is still holding your hand, by the way. There was no reason for this mental note, but it still makes you somewhat happy to make it. ...waaaaaaait, now that you think about it... Instead of next to you, she reminds behind you. Her palm is holding onto you a little more firmly than usual, the hint of sweat on it just strong enough to be apparent. Is she nervous?

"I told you, you couldn't run from me forever..." Weevil has now arrived, panting slightly. Rex is undoubtedly behind him, but once again, remains silent.

Anyways, introductions...

>Help Syrus with your name so he can introduce you somewhat properly.

“Gerard," You decide to help him. "and this is Wisteria."
"Uhhh... Hi." You hear from just behind you, with not a shred of confidence put behind the words. Is she still embarrassed?

"Sorry to interrupt, I saw Jaden running and thought we’d check out the commotion. Looks like nothing’s on fire though.” You add, clarifying your reason to approach. The guy in the middle of this commotion finally looks your way as well after hearing his own name. Unsure what to do next, you continue explaining the situation.“Oh, and back there are Rex and Weevil. We don’t know them that well, but our match got interrupted when the duel network got overloaded and knocked me and Rex out, so we’re waiting until we can rematch..."

"There's no reason to introduce those two to us, right Weevil?" Jaden stops your rambling while getting up from the ground. Bastion gives him a hand, but Alexis continues looking at you and Wis, as if measuring you.

"Take a hike..." You hear faintly from somewhere behind you. You faintly remember seeing Jaden beat both Rex and Weevil on TV a couple times. Ok, many times. Whether Jaden or any of his friends heard the insult is unclear, and if they did they seem to be fully ignoring it.

"Sorry about those two, they probably think you're another fan trying to get my autograph." Jaden speaks up again, after seeing the way Bastion and Alexis eyed you. "Well, actually..." You hear Wisteria faintly from behind you, pretty sure nobody else heard that.

"A-actually, Gerrard here is quite the good duelist himself!" Syrus starts praising you, probably just embarrassed about forgetting your name. "I remember us sharing quite an enjoyable game on the city bridge a couple days ago, and at no point did he ask about autographs..."

As soon as Jaden hears the praise that's coming your way from his friend, something changes. Now he seems to be looking at you the same way a predator does when they see a lonely 10-year old. You've heard that, even among the pros, he's just really into dueling, but this might be a bit much. He extends his hand towards you.

"I'm Jaden, as you already know. These two killjoys are Alexis and Bastion. You've already met Syrus." You shake hands. "I can't wait to duel you today! I can never say no to a good opponent!" No pressure.

“I’m looking forward to it!" You manage to keep your cool and respond normally, ending the handshake after a socially acceptable time interval. "I hear you know your stuff about spirits.” You add, remembering your previous conversation with Syrus. Jaden's expression changes once again after hearing that, but you're unsure what that conveys.

"Something?" He smiles at you again. "Sure, I would say I know something." Just for a second, some semi-transparent shape appears behind his back, then disappears just as quickly. Nobody else around seems to react, but you're pretty sure Jaden noticed that you saw... whatever that was. His smile becomes all the more knowing.

"ATTENTION DUELISTS!" A megaphone-boosted yell cuts through the City Center, stopping any conversation you were hoping to start in its tracks. "MISTER KAIBA WOULD LIKE TO ADRESS YOU ALL." You, just like everyone else in attendance, look around in anticipation, searching around for the tournament's eccentric host. Finally your eyes settle on the large screen overlooking the square, where you see the Kaiba Corp logo along with the words "Going Online". It seems he won't be joining you personally this time.

After a few more seconds of waiting, the screen turns black, after which you are treated to a stream directly from Kaiba's office. You don't know the man personally, but you can still tell he seems tired, with the shadowy hints under his eyes telling you he's not getting much sleep lately.

"Welcome, Participants." He starts, with his voice measured yet powerful, not showing a sign of the presumed tiredness that seems so apparent on his face. "I will keep this short, as we all have things to do and places to be. First off, I want to once again formally apologize on behalf on my company to all of you for yesterday's unfortunate incidents. We have taken measures that make sure that such a situation will not repeat itself." A wave of mumbling across the crowd indicates widespread doubt in that statement, but Seto continues. "However, for additional safety testing, we've decided to take one more day to test the safety measures in multi-person duels. As such, all forms of dueling with 3 or more people involved still won't be supported by the tournament for the next 24 hours." The crowd's rumbling is far louder and annoyed this time.

"As an added recompense, " he says more loudly, indicating that he might in fact hear the crowd. "we have decided to provide all off you with special free tickets to the World Racing Grand Prix Finals that start this Friday. Those tickets will allow you to see all of the races, as well as allow you to get food and drinks for free during the event." This expectedly makes the crowd far happier. The tickets were sold out for months now, so this is a pretty big treat to give out for free at this scale. "Additionally, I have decided to move the finals of this tournament by about 4 hours, so that you can have back at least some of the time you lost since yesterday. That is all." He disconnects, without any final grand gesture or finishing thought.

The crowd still looks to the screen for a couple more second, expecting some signal to restart dueling. Finally, people start deciding that must have been it, and the first sounds of Duel Disks activating start filling the air.

You look to Wisteria, who seems to have forgotten about all her embarrassment during the speech. You didn't realize how much you were looking forward to tagging with her today. Seeing the disappointment in your eyes, she smiles and shrugs.

"It's ok, Gerrie. We'll have plenty of time to do other things together later. For now, let's just all do our best and try to make sure we lock into the finals, ok?" You nod and turn around. It seems that Weevil and Rex are very still insistent on dueling you two, even if separately. Jaden, for his part, makes you know that he can wait for now and duel you later.

His silence makes me wonder if there isn’t something spiritual happening that we should throw VOD at. (Plus, I wanna warm up before dueling Jaden, and giving the rematch we owe is as good an excuse as any.)

He's the worst duelist here by far.

You decide to duel Rex, leaving Weevil to Wisteria. Maybe you'll learn something about what happened to Rex during yesterday's incident?

"Good luck, Gerrie!" You and Wis quickly kiss and move to your respective opponents.
If you want to say anything to anyone during the duel, just add it to the post btw.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TURN 1
GERRARD 4000
REX 4000

You go first and draw 5 cards.
Your hand:

Mezuki
Gozuki
Book of Life
Night Beam
Haunted Shrine

Your plays?
>>
>>4013110
Current deck if anyone needs it
>>
I’ll figure out a play when I’m not rewiring lights in the barn.
>>
>>4027269
Alright, I say we play Gozuki in attack mode, activate gozuki effect to send Red Eyes to the grave, set Haunted Shrine, and pass turn. Then we hope to draw Zombie World so we can completely run him over on our next turn.
>>
>>4027434
Sounds good to me
>>
>>4027434
I'll support this
>>
You play Gozuki and activate it's effect, sending Red Eyes Zombie Dragon directly from your deck to the graveyard. You set Haunted Shrine and pass.

TURN 2
Gerrard 4000
Rex 4000

"I draw!" Rex examines his new card, then puts among the others and picks another.

"First off, I activate the effect of Gilasaurus, special summoning it to the field!"

Do you want to use Gilasaurus' effect?
>>
>>4027496
Ya know, when we decided to challenge him I thought, "huh. I wonder if he'll use gila? Against zombies..."
And then he opens with it? Knowing we have a red eyes of somekind in grave? Do we have an idea how he seems to be taking our 1st turn? Confident, indifferent, worried?
>>
>>4027531
Indifferent from what you saw. Didn't react strongly to anything you did, just the same quiet act he's doing since yesterday.
>>
>>4027496
I say we go for it and use Gila's effect and see what happens
>>
>>4027496
Yes, use Gilasaurus to summon Red-Eyes in attack position.
>>
>>4027496
Use gila effect. We have plenty of ways to get red eyes back ourself, in case he destroys it. If it's with something with higher attack, then we can sweat a little.
>>
You special summon Red Eyes Zombie Dragon from your graveyard.

"I activate the effect of Destroyersaurus in my hand. I search Jurassic World from my deck, and then play it." His manner of speaking is still relatively dispassionate, but playing his dinosaurs seems to be slowly getting it out of his torpor. The area around his monsters is now filled with small plants, the pavement obscured by holographic dirt. "I also normal summon my Jurrac Dino." Another small dinosaur, this time a tuner. Is he going for a synchro? Wait...

"Let's see if the voice was saying the truth..." You hear him talk to himself. Maybe you weren't supposed to hear that? "With my two level 3 monsters, I open the dimensional overlay network!" Once again, the now so familiar portal opens under his monsters, sucking both of them in whole in no time. For the first time in a day, Rex seems actually excited about something.

"I call to you, primeval hunter of the other universe! Rank 3, Grenosaurus!" A far bigger beast walks out of the portal, roaring and spewing flames...
But then you look at its stats and wonder if that's it. They're just very unimpressive for something he was so excited about.

"Battle! Grenosaurus, attack Gozuki! Flaming Fangs!" The beast charges, and you'll admit, it looks far more terrifying than its stats would indicate. Gozuki fried, then eaten alive.
GERRARD 4000 --> 3400
"With your monster destroyed, I activate my monster's effect! Be disposing of the soul of my Jurrac Dino, I deal 1000 damage directly to you!" The beast spits flame at you and you flinch, but for no reason. Whatever KaibaCorp did, it's working, because getting hit by an Xyz monster didn't feel horrible for the first time in your life.
GERRARD 3400 --> 2400

"I also set 2 of my cards face down and end my turn!" He says, still somewhat visibly excited after using his new card... wait, aren't they coming out officially after the tournament ends? No matter.

TURN 3
Gerrard 2400
Rex 4000

You draw for the turn, adding Foolish Burial to your hand.

Other than it, you hold a Mezuki, a book of life, and a night beam.

Your field contains a Red Eyes Zombie Dragon and a set Haunted Shrine, while your opponents has a Grenosaurs, a Jurassic World and 2 set cards. Your sole card in graveyard is a Gozuki.

What are your plays?
>>
>>4027728
Summon mezuki
Foolish red eyes to grave
Rez red eyes with our spell or trap
Go for game?

If he pops a face down to check one of our summons, use night to pop his other one. We are almost guaranteed both red eyes at least.
>>
>>4027790
Not so fast. We should try to destroy his xyz using VOD so that we can purify the card.
>>
>>4027728
Let’s start with nightbeam. Then, we use book of life on Gozuki. Then, we use Gozuki effect to send Uni-Zombie to the grave from our deck. Then we Foolish Burial a Mezuki. Then we use the Mezuki in the grave to summon Uni-Zombie. Then we use Uni-Zombie to pitch Mezuki from our hand to raise the level of itself or Gozuki. Tune Uni-zombie with Gozuki to summon VOD. Then I think... activate a Gozuki or Mezuki effect to summon a beater, attack over his xyz with VOD, our hand is empty in case of a battle trap we can use void effect, attack with Red-Eyes and the last zombie for game.
>>
>>4027796
Imma be honest? Synchro is not my strong point. Expect mediocre plays from me on that front.
So I'll back yours instead >>4027820
>>
>>4027839
Also, we should consider what, if anything we want to say. Maybe something a little more subtle along the lines of “That’s an interesting monster card you’ve got there, what kind of pack did you pull that from?”

Also, I’m interested to know if Jaden seems to be picking up any bad vibes from Grenosaurus.
>>
>>4027854
I expected VOD to start screaming when we saw it. It's be funny if we started with plan a, but he bugs us till we summon him.

"Interesting. I'll show you mine, since you showed me yours!"
Something to say?
>>
>>4027871
I mean, the monsters don’t share a type, and we don’t know for certain that Greno is also his duel spirit/boss monster.

If we’re feeling dramatic, we’ve got our VOD summoning monologue that we’ll probably do. Or if we’re feeling particularly GX, we can say something like “looks like your Grenosaurus is going the way of the dinosaurs.”
>>
>>4027883
Considering xyz don't come out till next week, and we heard him talking about a voice, I think we can assume any xyz monsters we run into is spooky. Plus, it's more to let on about spirits for him and Jaden if he's watching.
As for stupid oneliners? Why not both?
>>
>>4027728
I'll support >>4027820
along with a stupid one-liner
>>
File: You gotta choose.png (368 KB, 310x450)

368 KB PNG
You start with activating Nightbeam on one of Rex Raptor's Set cards.

>Left
>Right
>>
>>4028452
Which card did he set first, the left or the right?
>>
>>4028501
The right one was the first one by a small margin, he held them both in the same hand and put them into the duel disk with a fast motion and without looking which one is where.
>>
>>4028452
>Right
>>
You destroy Wall of Disruption.

You activate Book of Life, targeting your Gozuki and your opponent's Jurrac Dino, reanimating the first one and removing the 2nd from the game. You activate Gozuki's effect and send Uni-Zombie from your deck to the graveyard.
You play your Foolish Burial, moving Mezuki from your deck to the graveyard, where you activate Mezuki's effect to resurrect Uni-Zombie. You activate Uni-Zombie's effect, pitching Mezuki from your hand to the graveyard, and then...

"I tune my Uni-Zombie with my Gozuki! Four plus four equals eight!" The onlookers cheer, excited to see the powerful beast. "From the Void between universes, an ancient evil rises once again! Insatiable, Unstoppable, Uncontrolable! I synchro summon..."

A pillar of jet black light erupts from the ground, bringing it with the familiar blood-freezing roar, and the crimson explosion of the monster coming out of it. Your ace monster has arrived.

"Void Ogre Dragon!" Born anew, the infernal beast growls at your opponent's Grenosaurus, a challenge to its dominance. Grenosaurus responds by spewing more flames into the air. The small audience looks aghast at your unique beast, but you continue

You activate Mezuki's effect to bring back Gozuki, then move to...

"Battle!" You shout. "Looks like your Grenosaurus is going the way of the dinosaurs! Attack, my demon!"

You attack Grenosaurus with Void Ogre Dragon, but before the damage can be dealt, Rex activates his last trap card.

"We're not dead yet! I activate Survival of the Fittest!"

>Do you want to chain an effect?
>>
>>4028561
>Yes
Use VOD to negate and destroy Survival of the Fittest
>>
>>4028569
Backing this. Have VOD eat the trap card.
>>
>>4028561
Chain Void Ohre Dragon, negate and destroy.
>>
Interestingly, because we hit wall of disruption instead of survival of the fittest with nightbeam, he actually had an opportunity to salvage some of this. He would just have needed to activate his trap before we summoned VOD in order to have a 3300 atk monster, which would have posed an actual threat.
>>
>>4028605
Eh, I don't think he could've seen VOD coming. He's hyped up on having an XYZs monster that he kniws only a select few have, so of course he wants to blow his load early and go to sleep right after
>>
The trap's strengthening aura starts enveloping your opponent's Xyz monster, but you respond.
"Useless! With the effect of my Void Ogre Dragon, I negate your trap card as if it never happened! Void Negation!" Rex looks at you surprised, as if he just snapped out of a fantasy. A translucent bubble forms around your beast, then stands expanding rapidly. It most things without effect, except the trap card and it's radiance - they seem to be erased then they go into contact with the expanding force. You think you might have seen Rex shudder when it passed through him, but he's too far to tell for sure. When the bubble grows to the point of encompassing the whole battlefield, it dissipates.

"Now, where were we?" You continue, after the effect runs its course. "Oh right, extinction, right on schedule!" You yell again, showing off. With the corner of your eye you see that Jaden Yuki approves your theatrics.

Your Dragon charges Grenosaurus and rips into it with its talons, ripping it to shreds promptly, then absorbing the leftover black aura into itself. The remaining Xyz-material, the white piece of lifeforce remaining from Rex's Gilasaurus, flies off upwards and disappears.

Rex 4000 -> 3300

You finish him off with Gozuki and Red-Eyes Zombie Dragon. "Infernal Flame Blast!' You shout while ordering your undead dragon to end it.

Rex 3300 -> 0
YOU WIN

Victory - 200 DP
Fast Victory - 100 DP
Other bonuses - 50 DP

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rex falls to his knees, looking at the defeated Xyz monster in his hand. "But... you promised me victory..." You barely hear him mumble to the cardboard. There's a slight glint of tears in his eyes.

You look around. Jaden initially clapped at your theatrics-filled victory, but now he's looking at Rex with worry. Wisteria is still dueling Weevil... Nope, she just beat him too. You guess they weren't feeling in shape today.

>Talk to Rex
>Talk to Jaden
>Duel Jaden
>Duel Wisteria
>Find somebody else to duel
>>
Um, I’m not really sure whether we should console Rex or give him some space... we should at least GG, right guys?
>>
>>4028611
>Talk to Rex

>”Good game, Rex. Where’d you get that Grenosaurus? I’ve never pulled an xyz monster before.”
>>
Awake... but at what cost...

>>4028655
This, but see if we can get Jaden's attention. He's a better people person then us I would assume.
>>
>>4028655
This one.

>No hard feelinga mate. You almost had me if not for nightbeam and my void ogre dragon.
>>
You decide to talk to Rex.
" ”Good game, Rex." You say on approach, but he doesn't seem to look up from the card. You decide to continue: "No hard feelinga mate. You almost had me if not for Nightbeam and my Void ogre dragon." He looks at you this time, his expression troubled, a mixture of fear and confusion. " Where’d you get that Grenosaurus? I’ve never pulled an xyz monster before."

"...yesterday, don't you remember? I thought you saw it too, you got knocked out after all..." He starts rambling and you don't really catch everything he's saying. "...they told me that I would win if I did it...liars..." He trails off. Weevil, soon after recovering after his loss to Wisteria, sees that Rex doesn't seem that well and leads him away, with pretty much everyone around watching it by now.

"What was that about? Did you do anything to him, Gerrie?" Wisteria comes up, equally confused as you. You shrug, that was just weird. Then, another person joins the conversation.

"Don't worry, it's not his fault." Jaden gives Wisteria a response, talking to you two but still looking worriedly at Rex. "Rex must have been really susceptible to manipulation to get that affected, but he should be fine soon enough." He reassures you, but you can tell he is still concerned about something and thinking deeply. By what you've heard, wasn't he supposed to be an airhead?

If you want to ask him anything, now is probably the time.

>...
>>
>>4028751
>”I could see a dark aura and a white light leave Grenosaurus when it was destroyed, but I don’t know what they were or how they got into the card. I know something bad’s up with these xyz and Void Ogre seems to fix it. Can you tell what’s going on?”
>>
>>4028774
Backing this. Jaden is one of the best people to go to when it comes to magic mumbo jumbo.
>>
>>4028774
>>4028803
He clearly knows something we don't. So.ethign we wanna know.
>>
>>4028774
Backing, but, would you really say ogre "fixes" it? Might be better to say he consumes it.
>>
>>4028855
In the sense that he fixes the situation, I mean.
>>
Ok, real talk...

I am sorry but I currently feel like shit and don't want to force myself into writing more updates rn, afraid I'll just half-ass them. No, the irony of writing a long post instead is not lost on me. Moreover, since I have an essay due on monday and an exam on tuesday, I don't think I'll be able to continue this until tuesday evening. Unless I decide to drop out for the third year in a row, that is. Anyways, I expect the thread to be on like page 9 by then, so making a part 2 will probably be a necessity... I actually expected this would go faster, my bad.

No, I don't want to disappear for 2 years again, and I'm sorry I did. I was and still am "troubled" ugh, but I came back here because writing this quest was one of the most fun and rewarding long-term experiences I've had which is fucking sad. I long thought there was no point in coming back to this and considered starting over with a new quest, because I thought that maybe like 2 people will remember this thing and noone would care, but hey, it's more than 2 as it turns out. I have no idea why any of you care about this low quality interactive YGO fanfiction, but I'm not going to lie, seeing people still remember and care did make me feel happy inside, so thanks. Now, since you've stuck with me for this long, let's hope we can continue on with this trainwreck of a quest and get somewhere someday. For now, I'm just happy it's not dead, at least currently.

Again, next update will probably be Tuesday evening in Central European hours, or at least that is my plan. Whenever it'll be, it'll link the thread on my new twitter (which I don't really use outside of /qst/ stuff), so following that will probably allow you to know when stuff comes up. https://twitter.com/ChifuTheHack

If anyone wants to have a contact with me for whatever reason or question you might have, I cleaned up an empty discord server so you can find me there : https://discord.gg/V2WNX3P This isn't some shitty anime server or anything, just an empty space for me to talk to friends I guess

Anyways, since the story for this thread is probably over, we can discuss and Q/A. If you have any questions, criticisms, insults or anything towards me, please do go on (especially with the criticism, I want to make this shitty quest as people-friendly as possible). I'll be checking up on the thread in my free time and talking to you. Except there will be nobody to talk to cause nobody cares, who am I kidding.

So there, have a nice evening, see the plot again next week. Sorry for the word diarrhea
>>
Also

>Log back into duel links after months of absence.
>My favourite archetype got a structure deck

You win again Konami
>>
>>4029136
I'm looking forward to Tuesday then, glad you're making sure to take care of yourself.
>>
>>4029155
>take care of yourself.
Let's not go that far, I will probably end up missing a lot more nights in the following month.
>>
>>4029136
>>4029138
Hey you do you my dude, get better soon. Enjoy Ascalon before he's banned cause his banish effect isn't a once per turn. Hope to see you soon m8!
>>
>>4030051
Thanks

Ascalon is nice and all but I won't be crying if it gets the hammer. Dragunity has been my pet deck since I rediscovered YGO (in like 2012?) so for me he's just a new addition, even if a welcome one.

Dunno why but I always found the act of synchro climbing by recurring Dragunity Phalanx weirdly satisfying, and I don't think that will be changing soon.
