This is Boruto Quest, a quest set in the universe of Naruto. It is during the generation of Naruto's son. I haven't kept up with the series beyond the end of the original one, so this one is intended to recapture the feel of that time of Naruto. I will not be incorporating the main show or the Boruto movie's plot into the quest, although some recognizable characters will be present.

You play as Takeshi. A highly capable Chunin, who is returning from years of training with Sasuke Uchiha. A new journey is starting.

As always, voting rules are as follows. Voting is typically completed following 15 minutes after the first vote. This may be subject to change according to activity.

Hey everyone. Sorry for my absence, things were still a bit hectic. I'll be starting to run in this thread at 5:30, two hours from now

On your way home, you bask in the glow of the experience. There is absolutely no quickness in your step. You playfully stroll along the old part of the village as happy as can be. By the time you reach your home, you're ready to kick back and fully relax for the night.

While the date was enjoyable, it was also equal parts stressful. Getting into a fistfight amps you up less. That's probably not a good thing for someone your age.

You shrug it off and decide to watch a movie before heading to sleep. It's the sequel to a series you like. You happened to miss out on it while travelling, but your brother bought it. The movie is based on a rogue ninja fighting against their semi-corrupt government for personal reasons more than heroism.

It's an enjoyable film. After a good night's rest, you immediately begin preparing to see Hanto for another day of training. With Mari's assistance, you should be able to make considerable progress on your own.

Once you arrive, you find your sensei asleep on a rock. He's laying across it on his back, snoring loudly. The stone doesn't seem to be bothering his sleep, surprisingly. A few pokes on the shoulder do.

He tumbles off, crawling to his feet and groaning. "Morning, kid. Listen, I don't feel so good, but you're making good progress. For a little while I just want you to keep doing basic punches and kicks. Try to make those fireballs bigger, but don't sacrifice any control."

You nod, and step away to begin your practice.

Hanto lays back down on the rock, and promptly returns to his hangover-based suffering.

Over the next week, Hanto simply watches you and gives light commentary on your performance.

Straight punches are clearly your most favored move. The jab and straight can easily release small fireballs in rapid succession. You find you can even do it while moving in a circle. You can also expel jets of flame from your palms and heels to shift direction in the air, although you're not good enough for full mobility.
>>
Your kicks can also release larger, more powerful fireballs. With enough training you could learn to launch explosive crescents of flame like your sensei.

Lastly, you figure out an alternative method to using Dragon Boxing with your arm. You find that if you release a jet of flame from your elbow as you punch, you can make the strike much faster and sharper. You'll require more training to learn more applications of this technique.

One day, as you arrive to the field, you find your sensei is missing. This is a fairly normal occurrence. He's probably some mix of drunk or hangover and is just taking his time getting here.

Opting to begin your routine anyways, you start loosening up. After a few minutes, a booming voice surprises you slightly.

"Yo!"

Turning around, Kichiro has landed at the edge of the training field. Your huge friend starts walking over. It's really crazy how much he's grown since you last saw him. He's at least 6'6", and 300 pounds of lean muscle. Of course, his impish grin still looks quite childish. Following behind him, yawning, is his younger sister Asuka. Her hair is frazzled, and she looks like she just barely got ready in time to follow.

You smile. "Hi, Kichiro. Hey Asuka."

They both give a small wave. "I'm here on Hanto's behalf. We're supposed to spar."

You stop smiling, blink, and look up at the towering hulk.

"Seriously? I've been doing this for literally ONE week."

He shrugs. "We can take it slow, don't worry. It's been a couple of weeks since I really broke a sweat, so I need to warm up first anyways."

You nod.

Is there anything you want to say?

Kichiro begins to do stretches. He's exceedingly limber in spite of his large, muscled frame.

"Is she here to learn Dragon Boxing too?"

Asuka shakes her head, while Kichiro answers as he touches his toes. "Nah, she's going to do training of her own."

She nods rapidly, red hair bouncing. "I've been learning more Fire-Style techniques. I also learned that Genjutsu you showed me."

"Great!" you say with a smile. It feels good helping out someone with less experience than yourself.

Kichiro throws his long arms towards the sun, stretching out his back. "Just be glad you've got us to learn from. We're not like Hanto... He didn't even help Takeshi find a teacher for the finals of his Chunin Exams!"

You chuckle. "It ended up working out well though. Shikamaru was perfect."

He rolls his eyes.

"By the way, what was it like, fighting Hanto? I fought him last week, and even at my current level he's way too much. I can't imagine it was very fun."

Kichro folds his arms behinds his back, and twists his core. "Well. You're right, it was pretty much impossible. Still is, when he's biting back as hard as he can. But I've changed a lot, too. I'd say the hardest thing about dealing with his full power is actually hurting him. Not only is getting close exactly what he wants you to do, but the moment you actually do hurt him his chakra gets boosted."

He slumps, and sighs. "I guess it's good to train against it though. It makes other people seem a lot less threatening."

You chuckle. It's pretty interesting that your relatively small sensei can so easily repel the massive Kichiro.

"By the way, I never got the chance to ask. What were your Chunin Exams like? I heard you graduated."

He puffs up with pride. "Yup! I didn't win the tournament. I had to forfeit in the semi-finals due to exhaustion from loss of chakra. But I beat all of my opponents before that so convincingly, they actually passed me! Plus they said it was a smart move to forfeit on my part instead of trying to fight without chakra. I figured that was common sense though."

"What about the forest?" you ask.

He taps his chin. "I got paired up with some younger Genin. They didn't pass in the prelims, though. I don't really remember them fighting that much in the forest, either."

You imagine that Kichiro simply smashed the life out of anyone he saw before anyone else could do anything.
>>
>>4013701

He finishes stretching. Off in the distance, closer to the pond, Asuka is performing Jutsu of her own.

Kichiro slowly brings his huge fists up into a boxing stance. "Well, are you ready now?"

You gulp, and mirror his pose. He's a good six inches taller than you, and must weight twice your weight.

He pauses. "First, let's just warm up with some Taijutsu. We'll start using the flames once we're a bit more comfortable."

He starts to bob in place. How are you going to approach Kichiro?

>A. Use your speed to make lots of feints in an attempt to draw out a punch or kick. Evade, and strike his stomach

Bearing no hesitation, you step forward lightly. The burst of speed from your step surprises Kichiro, who fails to move in time to stop your offense.

There's an audible crack of bone on bone as your hardened shins strike Kichiro in the calf. He grimaces while throwing a hooking punch, and you smoothly duck out of the way and step out of range to his right. He looks down briefly. "What the hell was that?! It looked so light, but it stung like hell."

You smile. "I guess you wouldn't know, huh? I've been doing special training to harden my limbs. I can even deflect metal weapons with them."

"Hm." he says. "That's interesting. It enhances your offense and defense at the same time, huh? Smart, smart."

He starts to take small, shuffling steps towards you. "I've developed something similar, as well.."

In a flash, Kichiro closes the gap just as quickly as you did. You start to circle around him to evade, but he intercepts your movement by one beat. The punch Kichiro throws at you completely lifts you off of your feet. You managed to block it with both arms, but nonetheless your body was sent flying for a good ten feet.

Flipping once in the air, you try to land on your feet. Kichiro has dashed forward again, and goes to grab your leg.

Using the momentum of your spin, you kick him in the shoulder and slink away.

He turns around, grinning. "You may have bones, but I've got muscle!"

It's true. While most of your attacks would heavily damage an average man, Kichiro's thick muscles and harshly trained body are absorbing your basic attacks fairly well. You'll have to hit something vital to do any real damage. Meanwhile, on the other end of the spectrum, each one of Kichiro's blows are so powerful he merely has to hit you at all.

Kichiro begins to attack in sequence as you use your evasive skills to defend yourself. He punches and kicks in combination, often stomping his foot down on after each series of strikes to step into several more. You notice that his attacks are much more refined and precise than they used to be. Each one isn't thrown with full power, but he's naturally strong enough anyways that it's plenty devastating.

Leaning backwards to slip past a hooking punch, you prepare yourself to throw a counter attack. He seems to start off with straight punches and then end his attacks with hooking punches.

First, you use your iron-hard forearm to parry a punch just enough to send it off course. Faking to the right, you try to draw out Kichiro's right fist.

Sure enough, the punch comes. His right fist flies at your face, and you duck under it and bring your own right over. A perfect cross counter, which hits Kichiro right in the nose.

You can feel his nose crunch under your blow, as well as the wetness of blood on your hand.

Stepping around you keep your dukes up as he slowly turns around with a frown on his bloodied face. "Ow."

"Sorry." you say sheepishly.

He rolls his eyes. "It's fine, that was a good punch. That probably would have knocked out anyone who didn't outweigh you like I do. Heal my face real quick, it's a pain not being able to breath through my nose."

"Sure."

As you're healing Kichiro, the both of you watch Asuka perform fire jutsu on the pond. He sighs. "She's better than I was at her age, by a bit. She actually had good grades as well. Passed her first time. Can't believe she's already going on missions, too. Hopefully she doesn't run into anything crazy like we did, early on."

You smile. "Yeah. We have some pretty crappy luck. I guess, in a way, it's also made us stronger though, right?"

Pulling your hand away, his bloodied nose is fine now. He holds up a hand to it. "Stronger, huh? I wonder if we really are strong guys."

"What do you mean?" you ask.

He looks at the palm of his hand, as if expecting blood. "I just remember how angry I used to get that I couldn't beat those snobs in class in a fight. But now that I can whip a lot of them, or at least scare the pants off of them for a second, I don't know if I care all that much anymore."

He closes his fist, and tightly squeezes it. "I really just wanna keep her safe."

You nod. "Right! I think that means you've grown up a lot, Kichiro."
>>
>>4013858
He turns to you, and cocks a grin. "Doesn't that mean that you're still a kid? Being #1 is still your thing, huh?"

You lean back, and fold your hands behind your head. Thinking for a moment, you exhale slowly while you close your eyes. "If that's true, then I don't ever wanna grow up."

Kichiro stands up, walking to take a stance again. "What would you ever do if you actually did become the strongest, anyways?"

He lights flames on his fists, this time intending to be serious.

You think for a moment on how to answer his question.

>A. I'd give food to everyone who was hungry
>B. I'd defeat everyone who wanted to start a war
>C. I'd fund medical research

"Feed the hungry, stop the wars, help those who need it. I would try and make the world a better place and then teach the next generation to try and do the same"

Kinda feel like Takeshi wouldn't just settle for doing a couple things, too kind-hearted and optimistic to not believe he can't change the wider world. Him saying he wanted to be Hokage at the end of part 1 would feed into that just IMO
>>
>>4013860
>E. Make a better world for the next generation and inspire them to do better.

"Well, I guess I'd do all the things that anyone would. Try to stop world hunger, poverty, crime. Educate people and teach them to make the world a better place for now and future generations."

Kichiro smirks. "The fact that you think that's what anyone would do is funny. You believe in the basic kindness of human beings, huh?"

You shrug, smiling. "Whatever. Get over here and try to hit me. Why are we waxing philosophical like old men?"

Kichiro bangs his knuckles together, scattering a brief flower of flame. "Truer words have never been spoken! Here I come, Takeshi!"

The difference in the quality of his attacks is immediately apparent. The quick dash that Kichiro used before has had it's speed and suddenness greatly enhanced. The wind hits you after his movement is complete, even. Kichiro is standing in front of you in a wide legged stance, and draws back his fist for a punch.

This is clearly a warning shot. He's going to put everything into it, but expects you to dodge it. Does he expect you to have the reflexes to register this and react, however?

Letting a jet of flame burst out of your elbow, you fire off a rocket-boosted right cross that hits Kichiro in the jaw.

He flies backwards from the momentum of the blow. At first, you're initially concerned that you might have broken his jaw. He simply stands up, wipes the dust off, and spits out some blood before taking up another stance. "Pretty good counter there. I might be plenty fast, but training with Sasuke has clearly geared your reflexes towards some advanced attacks. I'll have to try something else."
>>
>>4013956
Kichiro lets several punches loose. His fireballs are large, and screech through the air like missiles. They're not terribly fast, so you're able to evade each one in a zig-zag pattern. He finishes off his combo by kicking the ground like a soccerball. A trail of flame runs from the impact to your location. He's using the Running Fire Jutsu.

You leap to the side, easily outmaneuvering the technique. As long as you keep moving, it shouldn't be able to catch you. That's what you were thinking, before you looked up and noticed Kichiro still had his leg straight into the air from his kick. He must be incredibly flexible to have one leg fully stretched out like that. Suddenly, he coils his leg and snaps it back down to the earth with an axe kick. It releases a vertical slice of flame directly at you.

He used Running Fire to lead you into the crescent. Something only possible because of his highly trained Taijutsu. It seems Dragon Boxing isn't just about linking hand to hand combos, but also stringing together fire jutsu.

Using your newly acquired skills, you expel jets of flame from your elbows and heels to push you forward a bit. It's just enough to narrowly evade the attack, and hit the dirt face first. Behind you, a tree bursts into flames as it's simultaneously cut in half.

You lift your face out of the dirt, and spit some of it out. "One-on-One training sucks."

You stand back up, and sigh. You're limited to only your Dragon Boxing and Taijutsu, and Kichiro is wildly more capable than you. What do you want to do?

>A. Close the distance and fight on the inside, where he can't use his powerful Ninjutsu

We’re an agility type Taijutsu fighter, and we lack the raw firepower he’s packing in terms of Dragon Boxing to put up much of a fight at long range, when we can’t use our typical methods. So best to just keep to a relatively close range and use our agility to try and combo lots of hits while evading his.

Out of the frying pan, into the fire. So they say.

Kichiro wasn't expecting you to rush forward. As you're doing so, you release your comparatively meager fireballs with a series of straight punches.

As you're rushing forward, it occurs to you that this is a pretty solid method of approach. The attacks are weak, but they're enough to provide adequate cover. At least, if Kichiro couldn't also negate it, that is. He stomps and punches forward, letting a large blast envelop all of yours. You roll to the side before dashing in low. You're just a couple feet away from him when you use the Leaf Cyclone to drop under a fireball and shoot your own at his legs.

He just barely leaps over it, but as he's coming to land you've already rushed forward. He tries to punch as you're approaching, but he's still off balance, and it's sloppy. The blast of flame goes off kilter and misses. Kichiro, stumbling forward, dips down low and throws an uppercut.

Throwing up your arm, you block the explosive attack. The feeling of flames scorches your neck as you're covered in flame briefly, but your arm absorbs the damage.

Grabbing onto his hand before he can pull it back, you jump and kick.

The attack was about to hit him in the neck, but he actually turns towards it. Your iron hard shin bounces off of Kichiro's forehead, leaving a small laceration.

He roars, gripping you tightly before lifting you high above his head and slamming you onto the dirt, in a small explosion.

He blanks, looking at your body slightly imprinted into the ground. You wheeze out a few words to let him know you're fine. "I feel like I'm learning."

Assuming we go a bit longer after we shake off getting slammed we just need to do as >>4013974 said and just get in close and step on the gas. Takeshi tends to do well when putting himself in high pressure scenario's.

And if his response is to just blow us away with overwhelming force, we can probably just punish him for throwing chakra at the problem.

You peel yourself off of the ground, and take a breather. Taijutsu training is typically more intense than other forms of training. With Ninjutsu and Genjutsu, you essentially keep working on it until you're out of chakra. As far as Taijutsu goes, you have to put stress on your body.

Dragon Boxing brings both of these together, as well as adding the extra strain of not being able to use handseals to mold your chakra. Resulting in a loss of efficiency, even with your good chakra control.

Kichiro holds out a hand, offering to pull you up. "You alright?"

Your entire body is in pain. You think your organs might have shifted around a little.

Looking behind you, the tree Kichiro destroyed earlier crumbles as the flames consume it in a roar.

"You know, all things considered, I'm okay."

Asuka had turned away from her training, and walked over to the two of you in the middle of the field. "Are you gonna put that out? It looks like it could start spreading any second now."

Sure enough, as the wind picks up, the flames are carried into neighboring trees. You promptly use Water Style: Raging Waves to expel a torrent of water from your mouth.

Kichiro sighs. "Hanto's lucky. He can use use massively destructive techniques and still not hurt someone. I've even seen him use his flames to consume other flames, and put them out. Well, whatever. I think that's probably enough sparring for today. I've got a pretty good idea of what you can do. How about we focus on actually training something practical?"

You smile. "Sure."

It takes several days to get it down completely, but with Kichiro's guidance you're capable of performing this technique easily enough.

By expelling jets of flame on your elbows, or the soles of your feet, you can significantly increase the power and speed of your attacks. Of course, you actually have to be in position first, so until you master the dash as well, it won't have complete effectiveness.

Regardless, through a series of exercises, you and Kichiro test the limits of your new ability. The most striking change is in the penetrative power of your punches. While you could easily break noses, crack jaws, and generally knock people senseless with your iron hard knuckles, now you can cleanly leave large splits in stone.
>>
>>4029310

Kichiro moved several large boulders into the training field for you, and like a blacksmith, you hammer away constantly.

You find that it's best if you engage the flame after you've already started the punch. The speed boost is greatest at the initial explosion, so waiting until the last moment to unleash it maximizes the effect. You find that you can also use the flames to push through someone's block, by activating it after your punch has already landed.

All in all, your Dragon Boxing training has been a wild success for your Taijutsu abilities.

At night, you reflect on how it's usage will go in live combat situations. The most important thing to think about for you is how consistently using Dragon Boxing is going to drain both your physical stamina and chakra at a fair pace. It's not something you have a particularly large amount of, either.

You imagine that this is a bit of what Hanto meant when he said that everyone had their own style. While Kichiro and Hanto have the stamina and raw power to use it consistently, you imagine that for you it will be best used sparingly. To surprise a foe with a sudden rocket-boosted punch that's faster than your other attacks, or use a sealless fire Jutsu. Of course, you'll have to train the latter at some other point.

After a harsh day of training, you're on your walk home when Kakashi Hatake leaps down from a rooftop and lands nearby. His eyes say that he's smiling as he speaks. "Hey there, Takeshi. Glad to see you're back. Hopefully Sasuke wasn't too unbearable."

You shrug. "Well, it was intended to be learning experience. It certainly was."

He nods. "I'm sure. I think he borrowed some of his teaching strategies from me, possibly..."

"Ai said as much." you chuckle. "She seemed grateful for it. It wasn't as rough on her as it was the rest of us."

Kakashi sighs. "Yeah. Naruto and Sakura are a little too easy on their kids, I think. Sasuke being rough around the edges might actually be useful for once."

He reaches into his robe, and pulls out a sealed letter. "This is for you, by the way. From the Hokage. Someone else was going to deliver it, but I figured I'd go ahead and welcome you back. So, welcome."
>>
>>4029311
You take it, and grin widely. "Thanks, Kakashi! It's good to be back. I already feel like my training is improving from a refreshed environment. Working with Sasuke was great, but I was starting to feel a bit burned out."

He nods. "Understandable. Anyways, I'll see you around."

You head home, and take a shower before preparing to open the letter. Breaking the quite old fashioned wax seal on it, you unfold the paper and peer at the message.

Apparently you need to be ready for a mission in two days. The information regarding this one is more sensitive than most, so you're not going to be told much else for now. All you know is that your destination is Yukigakure, the village hidden in the snow. A newly established Shinobi village in the relatively small Land of Snow.

After eating, and relaxing for a while, you decide that tomorrow should be used to unwind before the mission. Though you're not sure what to do, yet. You ponder over it as you drift off to sleep.

The next morning, you take your sweet time eating breakfast, watching the news, and checking various websites.

You've got the whole day to yourself. What do you want to do?

>A. Explore downtown. You and most shinobi live in the old part of the village, and you don't get out to the city proper much.
>B. Stay inside, for once in your life!
>C. Go see if Mari is home

Before we go to the mission we should talk to Kakashi about some of those Jutsu ideas last thread.

I'm back. Post almost done.

As you're starting to get ready to leave the house, you suddenly look around the living room. You have a couch, a coffee table, a game system, as well as a pantry and fridge stocked full of snacks.

Looking out the window, you notice that it's actually quite cloudy and gray to today. There's a sprinkle of rain on the window.

Maybe today you could just stay inside and chill some more.

You take off your clothes, and change into a pair of gray sweat pants. You take out a small laptop that you and your brother share, and put it on the coffee table as you turn the television on. The TV plays the news as you mess around online, sipping a cup of green tea.

The news says that there's a highway being built from Sunagakure to Konohagakure. It's intended to help both of the villages. Simultaneously linking mining resources from the Sand, and tourism and technology from the Leaf. Security is a large concern, as allowing such free movement between two countries is a new concept entirely.

You wonder how long it will be before each nation is linked by heavily guarded highways.

As you look around online, you investigate a number of weird rumors circulating around town. Most of them seem to be pretty bogus. Spirits angry over the industrialization of the environment, Jashinist Cultists tricking people online into dangerous stunts. The type of thing you'd see on the History channel.

Suddenly, you discover one rumor that you just so happen to know to be true.

There's a forum dedicated to government conspiracy theories, and one poster is convinced he knows something about an underground facility.

He's even going into off topic threads, and spamming his beliefs in them. Apparently it's a research facility of some kind, used to abduct orphans and mutate them into frankenstein slave-soldiers. You roll your eyes at this. You do find it odd that someone would think the Leaf would do that to it's own people, though.

Sure, years ago, people like Danto, Itachi, and even Sasuke plotted to undermine the Leaf. But that was a different, war torn era. You glance out the rainy window of your living room again, at the skyscrapers in the distance. It's peaceful, and serene.

---

Sorry to cut it short, but I had some plans with some friends. The good news is that I'll certainly be running tomorrow night, for a longer period. I intend to the same on Sunday as well.

Thanks for joining, though it was a bit disjointed lately. I'll be around for a little while to answer questions.

Will we have time to run the summon sword and Bubble clone ideas by Kakashi before we go on our next mission?
>>
>>4029485
Yeah. You can seek him out during the continuation of your day off.

Still want to try and push for Sage Mode training with the Owls sooner rather than later. Seems to be a good way to fix the innate issues of not being special in terms of physical ability and chakra pool size.
>>
>>4029510
I have a plan regarding introducing that. The next mission is relevant.

I'm curious if our usual appearance now is with the hair slicked back Aizen or if that was a one-time thing for the date.
