The City of Lys, a shining example of how far the Valyrians have fallen from grace. A city-state that makes it's wealth from peddling the flesh of her sons and daughters at the clink of a merchant's coin. The World's capital of medieval sex tourism.

Of course other profitable industries exist in this island nation as well, but fucking the sons and daughters of fallen Valyria seems to be an obsession enough to the rich and powerful, so much so that the pleasure houses have coin enough to control no small amount of seats in the council of Magisters.

The manufacturers of poisons, drugs, dyes, perfumes and wines have their representatives as well, but industries of depravity dominate all the same. Only a quarter of the city's denizens remain free from bondage of slavery to actually vote, and it is this quarter which is bribed for their votes every five years. This is one of those years.

Way things got this way was due to a choice made by the Lyseni people long ago. The citizens decided to side with the merchants over the dragonlords in the olden days of the great revolts, a moment which the Magisters and Merchant princes celebrate each year as great triumph over their tyrannical oppressors.

It has been quite an enlightening experience to to see the culture of fear so etched upon the very fabric of this civilization by the passing of the Dragonlords, a fear which still lingers despite the fact that no dragonrider lives this day.

The disenfranchised had naturally been quick to adopt the winged lizards as symbols of their own counter-culture, the possession of which is harshly cracked down upon by the city watch who make sure none of the tourists will have their delicate sensibilities perturbed by seeing the people who disagree with the idea of being a nation of prostitutes.

Delightful city.
Small wonder it was so willing pay you off when you came from the sea guns blazing.

You were born a second son of a master baker known as Laemor Baenarr, a man of pride and with a stubbornness that would bring a mule to shame. He was more than happy to have a son of nine years who could do the work of journeyman without issue, but he was hostile towards any ideas of changing the manufacturing process or altering the workflow, stating that they would subtract from the value of the labor.

His religious adherence to over 300 years of family tradition caused no small amount of strife between the two of you and over the years you grew to hate him. You hated him, but there were two major points which lead to you choosing the life you lead now.

First was his complete and utter refusal of adopting new technologies to increase the efficiency and speed of the workflow.
Second were the guild traditions. A boy of nine years could not become a journeyman nor receive the full salary of an apprentice regardless of how hard he worked. This was due to the guild valuing age, seniority and long service over skill and results.

Unwilling to wait for decade to receive a salary equivalent to the quality and quantity of work you are capable of putting out, you did what every sensible laborer would do. You looked for more profitable work and with your skillset, there was no small quantity of it.

Last minute labor paid well for a skilled freelancer, just as it did in modern era. It paid so well, that you quit working at the bakery altogether, an act of defiance your father did not take well.

He responded by forbidding you from doing work outside the house.
You refused to comply and did so anyway.
He respondonded by beating you.
You responded by writing him a letter of resignation and left.
With your master-apprentice relationship severed, you took your money, bought a Maester's kit and sought to utilize the most valued skillset in your possession.

After several refusals to employ a child of ten years as a healer, even by people in houses whom obviously suffered from sickness, you eventually found a man who was not exactly in a state to refuse your services.
A dock ganger from Portside Boys named Syrys, now known as Syrys the Scarred, was left for dead in an alley, his guts spilling out on the sidewalk due to a bit of gang violence.

Ever since you brought him back from the brink of death, you have continued enjoying their protection, respect and continued patronage for the last five years as an unlicensed physician.
They even provided you a rent-free apartment opposite of their clubhouse, so as to have ready access to your continued services.

As you were doing your daily routine of push-ups, a customer wandered in. A disheveled man in his late 20's or so with worn clothes and the stank of cheap wine. He had come here before as his son had gotten a food poisoning by consuming some bad something or another.

"Hello, what ails you dear customer."
You say as you wipe the workout sweat from your brow.
He responds to you nervously, his body language radiating submissiveness
"It's about the medicine for my son, could you prepare this week's dose for half price?"
"No."
"My son might perish without it and I haven't the money, please have some pity!"
"Look, I'm not the one hiking up the price here, the eastern trade merchants decide price for the ingredients your son needs. I just mix up the batches and at competitive rates too, I might add."
"Can you not afford to show some Charity?"
"How about you get a better job or a loan if you're so broke?"
Annoyed, the man slams his coin purse at the table.
"There. My family will go hungry today because of you."
You lift the coin purse and it's bit on the lighter side.
"This is only half."
"I'll pay you half later."
"I don't deal in debt collection friend. If you want a loan, talk to the big man opposite of this building."
"I'm already in debt to him you asshole!"
"Then maybe quit drinking or gambling? Maybe no more whores? Maybe look for doing something else for a living? There's plenty of decently paying hard labor around."
"Easy for you to say, all you have to do is lounge in your house all day and mix your potions! You don't know what it's like for people like me."
"I imagine it's not all tits and wine, but that's life and we must find out how to cope."
"Wayfarer take you cold hearted fucking bastard."
He hisses his insults at you, taking his purse with him
"I'll find some other peddler just to spite you."

He slams the door behind him as he barges out.
You can hear him scream "NIGGARD" from the street before starting to go on his way.

Few moments later, a burly albeit a tad chubby ganger with familiar scars and bad teeth enters your shop.
"Just give me the word and we'll go beat his ass."

>"Not worth it Syrys, things can't get too much worse for him."
>"Just give him a warning and tell him to behave himself when he's around these parts."
>"Perhaps a moderate chastisement is what he needs."

>"Not worth it Syrys, things can't get too much worse for him."

"Fair enough, we'll be paying him a visit when his payments are due anyhow. If he doesn't got the money..."
"You do that then. Now, did you come here just for a chat or did you require my services as well."
"The boss wants to have a chat with you."
"Oh heavens. Is it serious? Shall I bring my equipment?"
"Just a chat, nothing is wrong with him."
"Ah. I see. Right now then?"
"If you've the time."
You sigh and give the ganger a nod, putting an "On Break" sign on the door as you leave.
Not that many people know how to read, but it seems to be somewhat effective despite it.

Their headquarters was not dissimilar to a Roman Domus in it's style. Two stories tall, it had an outdoors bath and garden which nowadays has been filled with a variety of useful plants ever since you established yourself to which the womenfolk have been taught to prepare and preserve.

Upon entering the Atrium, you were greeted with the usual warm welcome that you had grown to expect with these men. Topless slave girl offering drink and food as you entered, not dissimilar to how one would invoke guest right in Westeros. Cordially, you accept the cup from the woman.

"Master Niiro is waiting you on the upper floor."
"I will go see him then, thank you."

He had a tendency of favoring the second floor, believing it more secure than the first. Frankly, you would be inclined to agree with him. The building had no windows heading towards the street, only towards the atrium.

As you entered his room, the strong scent of flowery oil would hit your nostrils.
The room was decorated with many perfumed tapestries and carpets which kept the heat from escaping during these winter days and keeping out the odors of the city. He always had at least a three guards with him and the slave girl he kept as his concubine.

The master of the house, Niiro was at the moment being distracted by said girl, so you clacked your heels spake to get his attention.
"I hope the day finds you well Niiro."
"Arkan! Come! Some wine? Food?"
There was a mood of celebration in the air, he was certainly in a jovial mood.
"Had some wine at the door thank you, but... do I detect a scent of roasted lamb? What is the occasion?"
"Sad thing, a dreadful thing really. One of my dearest friends has perished. I shall have to give a visit the temples soon and offer my prayers as due diligence."
"My condolences. Judging by the mood however... you were a beneficiary?"
"Yes, yes... Bless that man, he died with no heirs, instead signing his properties to me. May you forever feast in the hall of heroes Vogaro. Naturally, as it is with these things, I must make do with matters of honor soon."
"Honor?"

"Vogaro was murdered by a cowardly man who owed him money and did not wish to pay, to let his soul rest in peace and to truly lay claim the rest of his inheritance, I must settle the score with this man."
"And you reckon you need my services for this?"
"The man is protected, there will be blood on both sides."

He snaps his fingers and his slave girl produces a bag of coins.
"For the expenses and for your services."

>Gained 50 additional Lyseni Silver Prides (105 Silver Stags)

"I'll make ready, just let me know when you need me."
"Good man. I should also introduce you to your new neighbor. Hallayn, come!"
A red haired, red eyed woman with tanned skin and strange clothing appears
"Why don't you introduce yourself to Arkan here Hallayn?"
"I was the slave of good Master Vogaro and now of Master Niiro."
"I see, well met I suppose?"
You give a confused look at Niiro, as if not sure what he is expecting
"Hallayn, why don't you tell Arkan what sort of services you rendered unto my good friend?"
"I advised him in matters of spiritual and magical. I read him the omens and was his intermediary to the hidden powers of the world. As I protected him of curses and evil powers, so too I shall protect you."
"You may return to your quarters Hallayn."

She gives an eloquent bow and leaves in a slow, swaying, but flowing motion.

"You inherited a sorceress?"
"Yes, it would certainly seem so. I dare not be rid of her lest I be cursed."
"Well, does she actually have any powers?"
He shrugs
"I haven't found out yet. What do you reckon?"

>A boon in the times to come for you, or a charlatan in disguise, time will tell.

"A boon she'd be even as a Charlatan, perhaps even more so since I could put her to work without worry. More wine!"
As his cup is being refilled, he continues
"The place next to you is vacant, so I'm putting her in there. She will ply her trade and if she is not a charlatan... Well, just keep an eye on her for now."
You shrug
"I'll let you know if there's some strange lights or sounds coming out of her apartment."
"Good. That is all I need of you today, feel free to enjoy my hospitality downstairs before you go."
You give him a tacit nod as you turn to the door.

That phrase meant more than simply drinking his wine or eating his food. It was also an open invite to take one of his slave girls for a ride, just not his favorite one.

Whatever mild degree of interest you had for such practices were in the past. Your dieting and exercise routine which you've held on to since birth has bestowed you such a physique that you frankly considered yourself out of the league of such village bicycles.

You did however, help yourself to the other kind of meat. Although your diet and routine had long since evolved into the realms of esoteric fitness practices, high protein count was still essential for maintaining gains, especially considering a routine with such a high level of cardio.

Upon finishing your quick meal, you had some time for a quick post-calorie workout.

> Antibiotics research [34 / ???] complete

As a man of medieval medicine, you had learned there were many diseases which did not have a decent treatment, let alone a cure. Of course, despite your modern education and upbringing, you had only the most rudimentary understanding of such high academia as modern medicine, let alone antibiotics.

Namely, you knew that the early ones were apparently based on some form of mold. Truth be told, you did not rightly know of how many diseases it would truly cure or how to properly administer it, but you had a starting point and understanding that the medicine was revolutionary when it first came out.

With a notebook, microscope, a small mold cultivation lab, a jar of authentic looking placeboes and a city in which the sick paupers often sold themselves to slavery to afford medicine, you have had some success in gathering information on the effectiveness of such treatments.

The results have been... mixed.
Limited sample sizes and relatively imprecise diagnosis (albeit moreso than what the local quacks do) has unfortunately lead to less clear data than you would like.
You have however, managed to cultivate several strands of mold which may yet show some promise, but further data is needed to determine if the treatment has been merely a statistical anomaly.

> Update!

After carefully sealing a new culture of mold to a fresh container and scribbling down notes your concentration was interrupted by strange ululating chant coming right outside your door from the street.

You opened your door to see what was going on and saw your new witch of a neighbor doing some sort of ritual in her home with both doors and windows open around a fireplace.

Her mouth was bloody and in both of her hands was held a headless pigeon, still twitching with the last spark of life, coating her hands with the crimson liquid as she fiercely clenched the cadavers, using the decapitated necks of the birds to paint every entrance of her home, window and door alike with a symbol of a circle that had a line crossings through it horizontally.

Once this was done, she promptly dropped the birds into the flames and cast some sort of powder into the flames forcefully, causing what seemed like a flour explosion and ceased her chanting.

"It is done. Did you have some questions?"
You give a glance at her bloodied visage and the stained doors and windows as the smell of charred pigeon wafts in the air.
"Was that really necessary?"
"A ward requires a sacrifice, no protection comes without a cost."
"Exactly what is that supposed to protect from?"
"Evil"
She replies wistfully
You raise an eyebrow, looking at the mess of blood she made.
"Lotta work for just two pigeons."
"They will have to do for the time being before I can work a stronger spell."
"Right... You know, you have little something on your face."
You say, vaguely gesturing at the mouth region.
She smiles at you with her teeth covered in what you think is pigeon blood.
"I can see you are unnerved by my appearance, In Qohor, it is said to be good luck to receive the red kiss from a priestess after a sacrifice."

"Were you actually a Qohorian priestess rather than a Sorcerer?"
"What is a priestess? Or a sorceress for that matter? I have called upon the favor of many a god in my time. I have been to the secret shrines and places old and long forgotten, left in ruin by the devastation rent the Dothraki hordes when I served under my previous master."
"Really? Where exactly did these places lie and why was your master seeking them?"
"Beyond the lands of eternal war, beyond the plagued waters of river Rhoyne, beyond the lands of Qohor towards the east lies the Dothraki Sea and the war my Master's army were paid to fight took him to those lands.
To the ruins of Sarnath and Essaria, to a land desecrated and in that land lives a people still cowering in the shadows of the Khalasars and the century of blood who still speak tales of the Kingdom that was Sarnor."
"And he sought out these people?"
"It was they who found us. By the whisper of the wind and by the eye of the vulture."
"And...?"
She laughs
"The rest of the story is mine to keep, shared only with he who possesses me."
"Play your games then woman, I've some actual work that needs to be done."

Annoyed by being led on by the witch, you take your leave and head to a weavery to resupply on thread, bandages and tourniquets for the coming... honor thing. As you entered the workshop, you were created by a familiar face, and a few less workers than you were used to.

"Oh, hello Arkan."
"Hello Laharra, is your father around."
"No, he's out on some sort of guild thing with the boys. Something to do with the coming election."
"Right, that time's come around at last has it not?"
"Oh, it's all so very exciting is it not? All the festivities to come..."
"Any news on what to expect?"
"Oh, there's going to be a circus with dancing animals, fire spitters, conjurers, music, contests, dancing... We will be having our hands full of work for all the decorations to come for a while."
"Speaking of work, I'm here to restock on supplies, I'll take a crate of cloth for bandages and two spools of thread for stitches."
"Had a lot of injured sailors I take it? I hear they like playing rough."
"Something like that."
"Oh! I almost forget, your granpappy came around the other day picking up some fishing lines, said he'd like to see your face for a change."
"Thanks for passing on the message, I'll see him when I'll have the time. Now, about the price..."

You hoist your newly purchased belongings above your shoulder and begin swaggering back to the docks.
>Awareness check: 3d6 to see if you catch people miring

Upon reaching your home street, you noticed that the witch had set up a wind chime made of bones next to her door that just eerily hung in there. If you were reliant on actually selling medicine from your office, you'd be worried about that crazy woman driving your customers away. For the time being, you simply rolled your eyes at the tacky decor and entered your home.

After unpacking the crate of medical supplies bought at discounted price, you began to pull out the fermenting jars containing from the cupboard and put on the cooking fire, spending a few hours distilling the horrid swill into moonshine. Not great for drinking, but shitty vodka in right quantities still can fix many problems, mental and physical.

Technically speaking, brewing your own alcohol without guild license was considered to be illegal. Practically speaking? You've never really seen anyone doing inspections in this part of town. Also, if they tried to break in, it was not as if you had entirely neglected the prospect of home-defense, or perhaps it should be considered home-offense at this point?

As you were about to pick another jar of mash, the sound of bells reverberated throughout the city, announcing to all respectable workers that closing time was at hand and the sun was starting to set..

"I guess I've done enough work for the day."

As it was with every weekday in this city, people flocked to enjoy the rest hours of their days, whether it be with their families, at the local pub with their friends, in the arms of a whore, in the gambling halls, at the theater or in the various other venues of entertainment the city offers.

It is the after-work hours, what do you do?

Pubs, now there's a bit of culture you never well and truly got into.
Though you could certainly appreciate a cold one with a filling meal after work, especially after meeting a stiff deadline, you could never well and truly get into the habit of doing it. Drinks were always cheaper at the store and there were always better places to fill your belly.

Sort of a lost opportunity really. Though there's certainly more places to get a cheap drink and a sloppy meal than one could name in this world, one could socialize within the company of one's equals. These days it has been difficult to rightly find much in common with the people who frequent such establishments.

Though in truth you could not blame them for their lot in life, it was by no fault of their own they had been born to a world where opportunities for advancement had to be seized at swordpoint, opting to instead choose the easy, peaceful life of ignorance and simple, innocent pleasures.

The sound of flutes, the sight of buxom wenches wenches with trays of beer, the smell of baked vegetables and roasted swine filled your senses as you left the stench of the streets behind you. After a quick look around, you noticed a familiar looking old man playing dice with one of the elders from the baker's guild.

"Anything for you love?"
"Get me some of that pork."
"Anything to drink?"
"Milk if you got any."
"Sorry love, this is a tavern, we've got beers, wines, brandy, ale..."
"I'm on keto, so I'll pass."
"Suit yerself"

You nudged your way through the patrons to meet with the last person in your family that didn't treat you like a complete outcast.

"Hello Marello, Master Lazen."
The latter nods at you and lifts his cup.
"Evening Arkan, come, sit."
"I heard you wanted to have a chat."
"I did, I did... You ordered anything yet? Drinks?"
"I don't drink, so it's just meat."
"Right, you had that thing... So, how have you been?"
"Pretty good, just made 39 silvers on a six hour work day. I'd say that's an improvement from what I left behind."
"Now... Let's not open old wounds shall we?"

Master Lazen decides to interject
"I'm sorry, but what exactly it is that you do for a living to make that sort of money?"
"I'm well reputed street surgeon and a healer. My services are highly desired."
"That's rather stunning that you managed that with your age. Who taught you?"
"I was born to it. I needed no further education than that."

"Now now, we are moving off topic, the reason why I wanted to speak with you was that well, you know about the coming election festivities, yes?"
"I am well aware. The politicians want to give the people bread and circus in order to keep their jobs."
"Well, yes, bread being the main issue here. I'll be honest, we'll be soon drowning in work out there. We've taken in whatever extra hands we've could, but..."
"But you want me to come in and help out with this?"
"I do. Maybe it could help mend things with your father. Show that you do actually care."
Fucking hell...
"One small problem. The festivities start next week, how am I supposed to industrialize the production line in few days when I don't even have the tools to work with?"
"I didn't mean like that, I meant as in..."
"Do it all by hand? Jesus Christ..."
"Now, I had a chat with my friend here about this, Lazen says he's fine with speaking for you in the guild to allow you to rejoin if you pay your missed guild fees from the five years time. I think it's a good opportunity to bring things back the way they used to be."
"You're born a guildsman Arkan and guildsmen help eachother in need."

>Your grandfather has convinced the guild to extend an olive branch

>What is your reply?
>>
>>4030725
"No deal. While i am happy to sell my services for a reasonable fee and even upgrade the production line for a proper incentive, my time is wasted kneading dough. Should father reconsider the approach he has we may come to terms. As it currently stands, our paths diverge. I appreciate you trying to mend things and I bear you no ill will but I will not bow to my fathers shirt-sighted vision."

>But otherwise, this.
>>

"I can pay the guild fees, however I will not be able to perform such an amount of manual labour, as I have already been contracted by a large client to be ready. Honour, training and festive activities also mean a sharp increase for healers, especially for rush jobs and anticipated rush jobs. So, while money is not a problem per say, time however is, as if my aforementioned clients has issues I will have to stop whatever I am ding and perform my previously contracted duties."

"This will make trying to play as a baker apprentice for my father somewhat strained experience and it would give him the impression that it is a wasted time- and from his point it might be as I would be doing this just to reconnect with my bloodkin, while still remaining a street surgeon."

"If however he is made aware of my erratic schedule and my intentions, I could see this working out as mending this with the family is the good and virtuous thing to do."
>>
>>4032102
This. After all we would've happily remained a apprentice to our father had he not declared we couldn't take other work: something that is not term or contract of the apprenticeship surely.

Honour disputes, training for the festivities and the celebrations themselves mean a sharp increase of work for healers as well, especially for rush jobs and anticipated rush jobs"

"What I'm trying to say that money isn't the problem, time is, as should my aforementioned clients call on me, which they likely will, I will have to stop whatever I am doing and perform my contractual obligations. This will make trying to play the part of a baker's apprentice for my family's sake difficult. It would also give father the impression that it is a wasted effort- and from his point of view it might very well be, as I've no intention of quitting my job as a surgeon."

"I don't think your father really cares about the guild fees or the rest of your family for that matter."
Master Lazen retorts
"You know, the reason you're being treated as an outcast by your family and the guild is because you kind of turned your back on our way of life, our traditions and our community. We can't exactly accept you back in if you aren't willing to change your ways."
"Anyway, I can see that isn't happening. Enjoy the rest of your life sonny."
He finishes his drink, stands up and leaves

"Look, I was trying to be polite about this. I am not opposed to mending relations, but I've got a good thing going on and a busy schedule. I got my own apartment, well paying job, an employer who actually respects my input and you're asking me to throw everything away, come home, shut up and keep pounding dough for a pittance."
Your grandfather frowns at you sadly
"It was a bit much to expect you'd have stop being so stiff necked with age, but you know Arkan, I don't have that many years left in me, all I wanted was to just mend this gap before it was my time to go."
"You are talking to the wrong person. You know I am right and how much you are asking of me."
"He is a stiff necked man as well your father. You cannot fault him overmuch for it. It is not our way to show favorites among the apprentices, even if they are our sons."
"Wise man once said that the greatest inequality, is the equal treatment of unequals."
"Arkan... It is not good to be so prideful. It will take much much convincing for another chance like this to be afforded to you and there likely will not be any man left in the guild to speak in your behalf when I'm gone."
"Do not worry about me Marello, I need not their protection."

He takes a sip of ale from his cup and smirks
"So, the weaver's daughter is a sweet lass. When's the wedding?"
"Pardon?"
"She's sweet on you lad and a decent match. Might be if you'll work fast I'll be able to see my great-grandchildren. Don't you go a-whoring like your kinsmen, lest you'll end up like your father. Women tend to look down on that sort of thing. It's not very charismatic."
"Oh please."
"I'm serious. If not her, then who? You're not planning to die a childless virgin are you? Seeing that you're a guildless vagabond now, I'd say she's honestly too good for you."
"Ok boomer"

After spending an evening together, you found that the mood between you two had ended on a much lighter tone in parting than when you had arrived. The night patrols were about to begin their shifts as you made your way back to your home to the seedy part of the part docks.

As you made your way through the streets, you could spot the occasional lady of the night negotiating prices with strangers.

After reaching the point where you catch a sight of the street where your apartment is, you spot an unknown robed figure leaving from the street you live in.

The person looks to be in rush, walking away at nervous pace as if simply trying to get out of the area and, but at the same time trying to not go so as fast as to run.

He keeps looking left and right, but also is visibly avoiding eye contact as he maintains a brisk pace.

After seeing such a suspicious individual, you immediately began to suspect thievery, however, upon a cursory glance showed no damage on the door or the windows and upon checking the interiors, everything seemed to be as you left them.

Nevertheless, you decided to walk across the street and knock on the door of your neighbors.

"Arkan, it's late, what do you want?"
"Well it's probably nothing, but I thought to let you guys know there was some shady fuck skulking about my home when I came back from seeing relatives."
"Alright, I'll let the boss know, hold one moment."
After a short while the guard returned with a displeased look
"Go on up, the boss wants to talk to you."

"Evening Niiro"
"What's this about some shady fuck in my territory?"
"As I said to your doorman, probably nothing but thought you should know."
He gives you a tired look as he pours some wine for himself
"What makes you think he was shady."
"Well, he was wearing clothes that made discerning his body type and facial features difficult. He acted in a somewhat nervous fashion, constantly looking left and right and was trying leave the scene in a pace that made it look like he was attempting to be inconspicuous about the fact that he was in a hurry."
"And what do make of that?"
"Could have been a paranoid loonie or a thief. Anyway, nothing was missing from my home when I checked, so if he was a burglar, I likely wasn't his target."
"Might also have been a spy or a lookout. What do you think of that?"
"Or a saboteur or an assassin, I don't know. Just thought he didn't look like he belonged here."
He thinks for a moment in silence, drawing few gulps from his goblet before giving you a stern look.
"You will speak to no man of this and finish what I charged you with by tomorrow evening."
"Already done."
"Good. Looks like we must hasten the schedule. Go to your home, rest and prepare to work late tomorrow."
You give him a silent nod and head to the door
"Good night Niiro."
"Good night Arkan."

After returning to your home, you made sure to double-check the barricade before going to sleep. The night passed uneventfully and come morning, you noticed that a lot boys were on lookout today as you went about your daily workout routine.

After finishing your morning rituals, you had some time to kill before the gangers would mobilize with sword, buckler and crossbow.

> [Impervious]: Mastercrafted Maximilian Armor and a Mastercrafted melee weapon. Due to high precision and quality of craftsmanship, it renders it's wearer quite impervious to projectiles fired from arrow and crossbow alike whilst minimally restricting the movements.

- Conventional doctrine -
> [Desperado]: 2x Colliere Revolver pistols, 6x hand grenades. A set of concealed weapons that are less than subtle when drawn.
> [Carabineer]: Colliere styled rifle. 7 shots and fairly good range. Comes with a pouch of 3x grenades.

- Terror Doctrine -
> [Streetsweeper]: 1x Multi-barreled flintlock repeater. Fires 100 superposed shots. Doesn't stop firing once trigger is pulled until the gun is empty. Cannot be reloaded in combat.
> [Double Deuce Stopping Gun]: 2 Barrels, extreme bore size, extreme overkill. Intended to not only kill a large charging animal, but also to stop it into it's tracks.

As tempting as Desperado / Carabineer is, I'd rather wait until we've blast caps to make those.

Time to shoot up some faggots. To the anons worrying about armor, we can always have others make the armor for us. Nobody else can make guns.

I just read the Wikipedia on Maximilian Armor and the German and English versions are suprisingly different. The German one states matter of factly that the armors ripped surface greatly increases it's ability to deflect and absorb blows, mostly by making an ideal 90° angle of impact impossible, but also distributing a blunt impact. This allows it to be lighter than other designs at the same or better protection, only weighing around 25kg. The English version only mentions it as a side sentence. Also King Maximilian according to the German version, helped invent the design, established a workshop to mass produce them and developed a press that could form 30 plates at the same time and some hardening procedures. Interesting guy. The English version does not mention his involvement, only the fact that it is named after him. It was eventually no longer produced because it was just so much more work to make them and the benefits weren't that great, technique also generally progressed.
Great read 10/10 would read again.

>developed a press that could form 30 plates at the same time
Sounds like a way to print money.
>>
>>4034927
According to my estimates, a 2.5 pound iron bomb would be about 175 silver stags to make.
>>
Also, the term I was probably looking for in terms of the armor was Renaissance Era armor.

Basically, the design itself is going to be one devoid of easily exploitable weakspots and will be of tempered steel capable of withstanding against bullets, let alone bows and crossbows.

You can have the fluting in Gothic or Italian style which gives the armor a distinct look different from any suits of armor in circulation.

Furthermore, if you wish for the steel to be pattern welded for that fake Valyrian look, that is entirely possible to do. Can even dye the steel if you like, but gold decorations will cost extra.
>>
>>4035117
Copper acid etching is cheap and gives fantastic results. Personally prefer Gothic and we should get as many grenades as possible.

Muscle, Brain, and Armor- looks like this unlicensed physician might be capable of sacking the Valyrian ruins.
Also, even though it looks like we will sword focus, I suggest we keep a pistol on hand for tough opponents.
>>
Are you ready to fuck up Harrenhal?
>>
>>4035472
Main thing with Maximilian armor was that the steel was untempered white armor, meanwhile Renaissance era armor was made of sterner stuff.

So, are gunpowder weapons now commonplace (or at least not rare but uncommon) because of our previous life?
>>
>>4036296
Dude, it’s a different timeline
>>
>>4035693
Agreed. Even if its only shitty flintlock one-shooters we should pack at least 2-4. Also grenades. Lots of grenades.
>>
>>4036296
While black powder made a name for itself in that timeline due to your exploits, the power of such weapons began to be feared, perhaps excessively so, and it lead to the crown and lords paramount trying to restrict the spread of such weapons.

Your brother never was ambitious enough to expand the arms industry massively and instead sought to increase stability and living standards in your lands with the newfound wealth you left him.

Alright, so it looks like the armor has won.
How do you guys want it decorated?

>[Damascus pattern]: For that fake Valyrian steel look. Rather conspicuous for better or worse.
>[Knight in Shining Armor]: Plain polished steel, a time tested classic. Favorite amongst the noble ladies and priests.
>[Summon the Elector Counts!]: If Skulls, Gryphons, Laurels and Eagles were good enough decorations for Karl Franz, they're good enough for you.
>[Plain Black Plate]: As good a canvas as any to etch upon your future accomplishments.
>[Write-in]: Creativity is welcome

Also, what sort of medieval weapon loadout you want?

>1h bludgeon + shield
>1h axe + shield
>1h long blade + shield
>1h short blade + shield + thrown weapon

>2h bludgeon
>2h axe
>2h long blade
>2h polearm

Feel free to be specific in the sort of gear you want.

>2h long blade

Armour because why not. 2h long blade because it offers the most versatility and is great at mowing down less armored opponents (our main foes) while being decent at taking on knights (half-sword). It lacks the drawbaks of polearms in tight quarters and offers more reach and flexibility in field battles. Truly a great weapon fit for all occasions. As to why not a shield, our armor is already impervious to projectiles.

The 2h sword works great for both urban warfare as well as battlefield conditions and while any one specific weapon would probably be better for any one specific condition (polearms for the battlefield and 1h swords for the back streets) the 2h longsword gives us more flexibility than any other weapon aside guns. [1/2]

You decided to make a check on your house once more with the aid of daylight to make sure nothing was missing. From the first glance, every thing seems to be there. Nobody took your money, your microscope and mold samples are there, your notes seem untouched, your alchemy equipment is fine.

The Food hasn't been touched, your clothes are as they were. The medical supplies were untouched from the moonshine to bandages. Only thing left unchecked was your home-defense equipment. Taking the key and unlocking the door to your closet, you saw them as you left them. Magnificent pieces of craftsmanship, pristine and yet to be bloodied.

>Masterwork Blackguard Armor

Plate armor of extraordinary quality, the likes of which is normally only ever tailored for only the most wealthy and influential warriors and would be warriors in the world. Of course, compared to the cost of hiring a master craftsman, the expenses for materials and tool rental hardly compare. Sadly, as a tailored item, finding a buyer for it would be most difficult, should you wish to sell it for what items of such quality normally would fetch.

-3 Combat Defense
+11 Armor Rating
+2 Bulk
+ Impervious ( Immune to conventional Crossbow and Bow attacks )
+ Intimidating ( +1 to initimidation rolls when wearing this armor )

>Masterwork Greatsword [Damage = Athletics rank + 4 = (9 damage per degree of success)]

A Greatsword of extraordinary quality. From materials to manufacture to balancing and the ergonomics, the weapon was made by a swordsman, for a swordsman. It's killing potential is tremendous and it doesn't take a giant to bisect a peasant with this sword. It would be worth no small amount of money should you find the right buyer. Such is it's heft that it is a threat to even those in heavy armor.

- Extraordinary ( +1 base damage, +1 result to fighting tests )
- Powerful ( Gains +1 damage for each strength bonus die. )
- Slow ( Cannot split fighting dice between multiple opponents. )
- Two-handed ( Requires both hand to wield properly, if used in one hand, take -2D on fighting test. )
- Vicious ( If you defeat a foe when wielding a vicious weapon, the consequences of defeat are always death. )

You lock your arms behind the wooden door once more. Though there's no harm in being too careful, carrying around battlefield weapons in the city is a quick route to being harassed by the guards and you really didn't want to have to kill those hapless fools, as corrupt as they were.
>>
[2/2]

It was there in case someone tried to break down the door. That, or in the event that you'd have to once again result to violence in order to protect your interests and that is by no means an uncommon tale. Oaths of vengeance and generation long spirals of murders between guilds, clans and houses are by no means a rarity and you never had any intention to take it lying down if someone decided to start shit with you.

If nothing else, the kit should get you employed in a mercenary company reasonably quickly should you feel the need to skip town. Far as infantry is concerned, greatsword troupes are one of the more prestigious units among the warriors for hire.

Starting equipment locked in, no time has passed.

> Begin Clinical trials [62/???]

[1/2]

Early bird catches the leper, time to go shopping for the sick people.

You take your morning jog to the temple quarter, an area dedicated to gods, but also one full of beggars. It was one of the few areas where they were allowed to legally conduct their business as the guilds had little pity for those who disrupt their business, merchant princes much less so.

Malnourished, malnourished, old, lame, cripple, old, old... Oh, hello there. You spot a young boy, not too badly fed, but more importantly possessing a blooming sore in his face.

"Some coins for a pox ridden child? I haven't eaten for a day."
"How old are you?"
"I'll be 12 this year mister. Show some charity will you?"
"What is your name and where are you from? You are not Lyseni."
"I'll tell you for a copper mister. I gots to eat you know."
"Alright then."
You toss the boy a copper coin.
"I'm Rommie from fleabottom."
"Well, Rommie from fleabottom, how would you like a hot meal and some treatment for your facial problem?"
"Do I have to suck your cock?"
He asks frankly
You reply, mildly offended by the notion
"Do I look like a fucking degenerate kid? I'm a physician, not a boylover."
"I ain't a fool, the 'ores say once you got the great pox, only the gods can help you."
"Must be some wise prosties to know gods and medicine so well."
"Why me anyways? Got plenty of sick people in here."
"Because you have a disease that I might be able to cure, and in an early stage no less if I am not mistaken."
"And how you gonna do dat?"
"First I take a sample to examine and confirm it is indeed, the disease I believe it to be. Then I open an file in my archives for you. After that, I will shall give you a container of capsules with my cure. You will swallow these whole with water, one in morning, one in evening. If no side-effects emerge, we will proceed with this treatment for a month and the pox should by my estimates be gone if fortune is with us.
If we see results, but the pox is not gone, we will continue for another month."
"And you'll get me that meal as well?"
"I will. How does a serving of rootbeer, beans, eggs, sausage, bacon and steamed veggies sound for today's breakfast?"
"Alright mister, you got a deal, but the meal first."
"As you like. There's a place at the docks, you heard of Marooned Pheasant?"
He shakes his head
"It's a decent enough place. We'll order some food there, you can eat while I perform my work."

> Lost 1 Silver pride for a hearty meal to the urchin
> Current moneys 138 silver prides (298.9ss)

[2/2]

> Persuasion 12 - Somewhat successful

The boy was suspicious of you initially, but after he got the meal in front of him along with some rootbeer, he began to losen his guard as you examined the sample taken from him.

"Does seem to indeed match with others possessing the Great Pox. Very good. If the previous records are reliable, I wager you have a fairly solid chance of recovery. There's just one thing..."
"Wot?"
"How did you get this disease?"
He keeps stuffing his face with the food you paid for
"Wus a slave. Some men took me from fleabottom and sold me to some fattie here. Made me suck cocks till I got sores in me face and then said I wus a free man."
"Fucking degenerates... You know why they let you go?"
He shakes his head as he stuffs his face
"Lyseni law makes masters responsible for the health of their slaves, meaning if they kept you, they'd have to pay for your medical expenses for rest of your life."
You pack up your microscope and hand the kid his medicine.
"Here's the cure. Keep in contact with me for the duration of the treatment. I live in that apartment over there. I need to monitor the progress of the procedure and if you feel any changes like a rash or swelling, you come to me immediately."
"Thanks for the meal mister."

After leaving Rommie to resume his beggadry, you decide to head to the main plaza of the city, to front of the palace of the Magistrate Council who oversaw all the matters of state from the near constant revisions of laws to the national budget and of course taxation.

You knew nothing what happened behind closed doors of that magnificent building of bronze and marble, only the occasional announcement when the council had come to a decision. The political process of this city was likely even more arcane for the illiterate layman with not even the basic understanding of what these men even do as the concept of senatation isn't exactly taught at lenght.

However, you did not come here to unravel the mysteries of the Lyseni legistlative body, the reason you had come to main plaza was for such aforementioned announcements.
It was here that the town criers came for the words they'd announce all over city. Here stood the city's central noticeboard, open to read for all those who could, and you certainly were a literate man.

Though the workers in preparation for the coming campaign week were bustling about their business everywhere, the plaza at this time of day was not very busy. It was after all, midday and most were still at work, meaning you wouldn't need to push through crowds to read the announcements.

"The Council of Magisters announces that election season opens... Start of next week, so three days."
"All employers are encouraged to grant this week as a time of rest and celebration to their workers, should work be so critical that it cannot be halted, the employer is obliged to pay thrice the usual wages for any labors performed during the said week..."
"...the council reminds that voting is the duty for every citizen..."
"...event schedules... There. Contests."

"For the pleasure of our citizens, the noble Gaelyx Tannaeleron our former High Admiral, slayer of pirates and the defender of our traditions in the council of Magisters sponsors an athletic contest to all able-bodied men to encourage manly virtues with many a generous prize in coin.
Events are as follows!"

- Wrestling contest
- Strongman contest
- Rope climbing contest
- Swimming contest
- Javelin throwing

"Slaves may not apply."

Another event that caught your eye was the following.

"Your honored Head Magister Thaeryx wishes to invite you to spectate in thrilling games of live combat in at the Pit of Glory. See first hand as man fights against beast and as foul criminals fight with live steel for your entertainment!

Citizens pay no admission fee!"

Followed by this was another announcement.

"Be you strong of arm and brave of heart? Pit fighters wanted. Glory and compensation guaranteed. Continued opportunities of mercenary work for the victorious."

There were also various other politicians who sought to raise awareness to their brand by arranging games of various kinds from equestrian sports to dancing contests to music to pageantry to marksmanship. Question is, are you interested in the level of exposure these sort of contests will give you?

Might as well make a big splash while we can, we have bigger plans than being a back alley surgeon and we need some fame to open doors for us.

And speaking of master weaver daughters. Do we want to get tied down and married in this life or would that impede our planned goals? Being a baker is a dead end but it shouldn't be too hard to marry into another guild if we can prove our worth through mechanical knowhow. That would be one source of money and influence for our experiments.

The other method we are aiming for right now is to make a big splash in the games and get picked up by a noble as a personal trainer/strongman. Having a noble backing could also get our healer credentials recognized.
>>
>>4042863
Considering that the industrial revolution started with the textiles industry, perhaps a marriage with a weaver is a better choice than it first appears.

I would think that marrying a weaver would be a good idea, just one from Volantis not Lys.
Volantis having a river large enough to work basic fabric water wheels/ dump waste into, and huge numbers of slaves for working in the factories and harvesting the materials we need without having to pay so much for shipping.

Volantis of course we could not sit as a triarch at but with huge incomes we could marry a noble and help make her get elected as an elephant party member.

Of course that is all so far in the future the current matter would be finally get the meds off the ground, as people will buy them for every little thing not learning or caring just how they work.
>>
So should we bet in the tourney at harrenhal next year, also do people in Essos also measure time by when aegon conquered?
>>
>>4043472
No, they would probably measure time based on Valyrian calendar or since they successfully gained their independence.

I really don't wanna keep track of a different calendars so I am using Westerosi system for basis of clarity.
>>

They determine their date by when the battle of Yavin occured, obviously.

>>Nah, I'd rather keep low profile
I can see I'm not going to win this, but I would point out that the last time we poked our head up somebody out a crossbow-bolt through it.

It's going to attract a heck of a lot of attention if a fourteen-year-old wins an all-comers wrestling contest or whatever (much as I'm sure the people of Lys would love to see a muscular, oiled-up, twunk grappling on the floor with a succession of grown men).

Speaking of archery, would you like to purchase a bow and some arrows or will you simply rent them?

>Compete for gold and glory

"Hello there my good man. You seem to be in good shape. Here to list yourself for the athletic games?"
"I am. Can you tell me about the prizes?"
"Of course! Besides the trophies, the top three wrestlers and throwers get 20, 10 and 5 gold joys and top three swimmers, strongmen and rope climbers get half that. Which would you like to enlist to?"

[Lyseni gold coins are 50% size and value of Westerosi Gold Dragons]

"All of them."
"Very bold! Very good! what is your name?"
"Arkan, son of Laemor Baenarr"
"And... done. You know where the contest is being held yes?"
"Pit of glory, after the opening ceremonies for the campaign week."
"Just go and introduce yourself at the staff entrance and they'll let you in. Best of luck."
"Thank you."

Likewise, you took the trip to the each of the other contest organizers, booking yourself to many, many contests for the coming day. Running contest would hold the same sort of prizes as the rope climbing contest, but the archery held 100, 40 and 20 as prizes, though you hardly would call yourself one of the best marksmen in the world. Nevertheless you needed a bow and after spending much of the day walking about the city doing contest entries, you took a quick trip to the market to purchase a longbow along with haggling yourself a quiver of arrows, returning home happily with the freshly made purchase.

>Current monies: 71 Silver prides (149.1 silver stags)
>Acquired a Humble Longbow, Shoddy quiver and 12 arrows

The entry to the Gladiatorial combat went remarkably smoothly. They simply asked what sort of gear you'd be using, if you'd ever fought before, whether or not you're willing to kill a man and then just wrote your name on the list and told you the rules.
- You get paid 50 silver prides as crowd warmer after the match. Whether you win or lose, you still get paid.
- Please the crowd for bonuses. Don't collect the tips from the sands, we've got staff for it and yes, they do take a cut.
- Fight against multiple, and more dangerous opponents to get bigger fight money, the list of which will be revealed at the day of contests.
- There's no penalty for not showing up, they've got other fighters and they only want people who are motivated.

>Three days until the contests

It is afternoon, you have a few hours before your duties demand you to remain on standby for Niiro's men.
Is there anything specific you'd like to do with these few hours before we conclude the day?

You decided to do some doctoring work on the docks. Though you could hardly create a large amount of money in but few hours, you managed to go through 5 sailors, all with varying degrees of scurvy and lover's pox with one who also had hemorrhoids.

These men weren't rich, but they still paid for your services generously as they could, which in grand scheme of things wasn't a bad pay for such a miniscule amount of work.

>Acquired 10 Silver prides (21ss)
>Current moneys 81 silver prides (170ss)

After finishing with making a quick bag of silvers, the time for Niiro's gang to move out drew near, and you made your way home.

You saw a line of carts assembled outside Niiro's house with various familiar faces dressed up to look more like your common low-grade swashbuckling guards rather than dockside thugs they were hanging about.
This sort of big assembly of damn near hundred men in one place was bigger than anything you'd ever see Niiro do, which implied there was a whole lot more at stake than just honor.

"I see you've gotten yourself a new shirt of maille."
"Aye, normally we gotta keep this sort of gear on the down-low to keep the guards from getting nervous. However..."
"The big man's down to gain something from this. He wouldn't call in damn near his whole gang just for some minor dispute of honor."
"Oh, you don't know the half of it. He says that if we pull this off he can deal with the guards."
"Was the inheritance that big?"
"Not sure, normally he doesn't like risks, but he's really intent on laying claim on that inheritance."

Before the conversation could continue, Niiro came out of his house, armored in a brigandine, armed with sword, buckler, daggers and what seemed to be a miniature crossbow hanging from his belt. He was all smiles as he assumed the position at head of the makeshift caravan.
"That's our cue."
"I'll head home. May your gods be with you Syrys."
"They haven't failed me yet."

The men formed up around the carts and began escorting the carts to ruin some poor fucker's day.
As you walked to your house, you saw Hallayn shaking her head at the departing mob of criminals.
"The dread specter of death still looms over his house. Victory in battle he shall have, I have seen it. Spilt blood shall call to it's kind and the dead shall pile on his doorstep."
"Whose dead? His or his enemies?"
You ask
"Only the gods know. I shall return to my rituals. We all need protection from what is to come."
"Sure, you go ahead and do that."

As she enters her home, you hear her barring the door behind her.
You shrug and return to your own home to take a nap and await for any wounded mobsters that might show up during the night.
