The acrid smell of pulverized cockroach still wafted in the air as you and the others returned to the bikes. You had more than given a glance to the carnage left behind by Chris's weapon and the now hole-punched remains of the Metro's rail where its shots landed.

Even having witnessed the sheer destructive power of Chris's weapon before, it still amazed and terrified you that something that destructive could be so easily compact. It made you all the more grateful that you managed to shake Chris out of his nihilistic stupor beforehand, as you dreaded what he would do if he was still with that murderous mindset.

The thought was stopped short as you recoiled to a continuous, ringing hum in your ear and a blinking blue light from your radar. It wasn't just you, as you spotted Chris wincing back to look at his own wrist, with a similar blue ping emitting from it.

"We need to move" you state, hurrying to the bike's seat even faster now, "they shouldn't be too far off this station."

"It must be a bunch of those bigger bugs," Chris replied, as you started up the bike's motor, "just wish that damn ping on the radar wasn't so annoy-"

His reply was cut short by yet another humming ring in your ears, followed by another blue glow from the radar. It was irritating enough that you could hear Chris curse at the radar in front of you, yet it wasn't the most troubling thing about the second ping. You had figured the first ping had come from the other station, as the other half of the group had been there since the start of the mission, yet this one was coming from a separate direction entirely. In fact, as you touched the screen to expand the radar's map, you noticed it wasn't even on any of the rails or stations.

Two signatures were placed beyond the boundaries of the metro, yet were surrounded by what you could only guess were dozens or even hundreds of other signatures moving and darting about.

"It's coming from inside the tunnel wall?" Yukino chimed in, looking over your radar, "how can those things be so strong to dig through the concrete?"

"Goddammit, I was right" Chris interrupted her question, as you heard the start up of his engine, "There's a whole damn swarm on that other station. I'LL MEET YOU THERE PAULA!"

Chris's motor roared as he sped his way towards McPherson's Square. He didn't even give you a chance to object or speak up as he accelerated to his destination.

"We have to follow him" Yukino spoke up, getting up on the vehicle's passenger seat, "If the others are there, then they could use our help as well!"

"I know, but something is bothering me about that other ping" you speak up, looking back to your radar, "if they can just come out of the tunnel walls, then that means the have to have a place where they're coming from. Like a hide-out or a-"

"Nest." Yukino interjects, worry clinging to her voice.

You let the words hang, as you rev up the bike's engine.

After aligning yourself towards McPherson Sq., you pressed hard on the bike's right pedal. The acceleration of it along almost made you lurch back, but you kept your grip steady as you headed down Metro Station's platform crossing. The station's platforms were mere speed bumps against the bike, as the wheel's size merely passed over them towards the far Orange lined tunnel.

"Yukino", you called back, causing her turn back to you, "get ready to start shooting the moment we head in there. Those things are too strong to take up close and target the ones engaging the others."

"I will Paula" she replied in a yell as the tunnel's entrance passed you, "but how are we going to help out the ones in the tunnel walls?"

"We'll come back for them" you state in reassurance, "after we have helped out the others. We'll need everyone's help if we're heading somewhere not even the radar can show us."

Yukino nodded in agreement, as you focused your attention on making it to the other station.

<2:30:59>

You had been staring at the bike's radar while keeping a focus on the tunnel before you. The amount of signatures on the radar had begun to drop after you saw a high velocity signature make its way to McPherson Sq. It had to have been Chris, as you found out upon making it out of the tunnel.

The disgusting stench of several splattered bodies of cockroaches lined the platform landing, along with the clean, circular incisions on the railing. It was a slight, gruesome diversion from the ongoing chaos further into the platform. By your quick observation, there were about 10 or 12 of the larger cockroaches attempting to climb up to the upper platform.

You had noticed the escalators to it had been destroyed, no doubt in attempt from the others to slow them down. Only Dante, Kurtis and Allie were shooting down at them, as you couldn't spot anyone else nearby on the upper platform or in the platform proper. Chris wasn't anywhere in sight either, though you didn't spot a single body from anyone in there either.

"PAULA!" Kurtis called out, trying to wave at you, "GET OUT OF HERE! IT'S A TRAP!"

"THEY'RE ON THE CEILING!" Allie added in between shots to the other cockroaches, "YOU NEED TO RUN!"

You barely got a chance to look up at the several dozen or so cockroach aliens latched onto the ceiling, their craggy carapaces almost blending to the concrete above, before one of them landed right besides your bike. It let out a hideous hiss from its mandibles, before Yukino let out a shot against its head; splattering it against you and the bike.

A few more began to descend from the ceiling as several more began to climb the ceiling toward the platform where the others were. Their carapaces opened up to reveal spindly wing that flapped to soften their heavy descent. Giving your pedal a hard kick, you increased moved your bike away from the monsters towards a more advantageous position.

You quickly spun the bike around, the maneuver almost seamless in execution as you managed to also hit some of the cockroaches surrounding you. The bike's handling still seemed impossible given it single wheel, but you used the momentum to speed over to the tunnel's entrance.

"Paula, there's more coming from the ceiling!" Yukino yelled back, as she let off a few shots with her pistol.

You gave it a sideways glance, seeing that half of the group heading towards the upper platform were now moving towards you and Yukino. Whats more, the other group at the bottom floor were moving towards you at high speed on all of their skittering legs. In all, there were 8 or 9 heading towards you both, but they wouldn't be fast enough to reach you before making it to the tunnel entrance.

Skidding a little as you braced the bike sideways across from the tunnel entrance, you reached into the dufflebag for some weaponry.

"Yukino, stay in the back and cover me" you commanded, taking out one of the rifles from the dufflebag, "don't get down from that position and aim carefully. If they manage to get past me-"

"I'm not moving from here Paula" she intensely replied, as you moved out of the bike, "I'm not going to let you down."

You wished to reply, but you knew that it would be pointless now that her mind was made up. As the small swarm of roaches approached from the main tunnel, you aimed through the rifle's digital scope. Using the bike's seat as a shooting platform, you let out some shots to the crowd, with Yukino's own shots lighting up the tunnel along with you.

<FAILURE> -1 STR

The roaches's numbers begin to reach the tunnel entrance but not before your volley of shots impact against the crowd. The delay on the impact gives them a few more feet of movement, before they're splattered against the platform rails. Their bodies expanding with a sickening squelch and subsequent crunch as parts of their torso, abdomen and limbs shatter and crunch like eggshells.

Their numbers still range at 5 or more, and some of the ones struck by the weapons are managing to still make their way towards you. Upon reaching the rifle's maximum shot number, you quickly drop it for a pistol from the dufflebag. Without the rifle's 5 second reload to slow you down, you let loose another barrage of shots into the crowd.

Knowing the pistol's delay on the shots impact wouldn't down these aliens before they arrived, you dropped the pistol and took out Erick's sword from your holster and prepared yourself for the worst. The roaches were but 10 feet away from the bike's makeshift barricade when you saw more of their bodies explode; not even attempting dodge the closer shots for a fully committed charge.

Even with your additional volley, there's about 3 still gunning for you and Yukino at high speed. You hear more of that eerie hissing from their mandibles as they reach the bike's frame.

"YUKINO RUN DAMNIT!" you shout as one leaps from its running gait, wings extended to strike at the bike.

The roach's talons extend to strike at you from the bike's center, as it almost tips it over with its sheer strength against you. It hits home right on your left shoulder, and you let out a yell of pain as your blood is drawn out to splatter against your suit. You don't wait for Yukino to answer, before severing the alien's limb and attempting to stab at the roach through the central hole of the bike. Even though you manage to pierce it, the monster continues to move erratically to dislodge itself from the sword.

You would have answered in kind by swinging the sword to slash it apart, but two more aliens leap onto the bike and do manage to tip it over completely. You knew these things were able to match the suit's power if you tried to engage them directly, so you could only dart back to avoid being trapped beneath the bike. The alien's crept right over, not wasting a moment to try and attack again, yet you noticed Yukino was nowhere in sight of the bike's back seat.

Steeling yourself against the pain, you readied a defensive stance against the three roaches once again trying to rush you down. Even against one, it had been a struggle to just kill them with the sword. Though, you quickly dissuaded those thoughts from your head as the aliens closed the distance. Before the closest one to strike however, the small form of Yukino leaped from a divot in the tunnel with a scream. She actually managed to strike the right-most roach with a slash against its side, cutting off a pair of arms.

"YUKINO! I TOLD YOU TO RUN!"

"NO, I CAN HANDLE IT!" Yukino yelled back, as the two roaches approaching you now blocked your way to her.

Your breathing sped up as you could hear the hissing now so heavily resonating in the tunnel and her shouts of struggle beyond the two roaches. It made you want to push through the two aliens, but you knew that it would be unwise as it could get you surrounded if you failed. It was a moment of betraying your natural motherly instincts, but you had faith in Yukino's abilities to handle that monster.

"JUST-ARRRGGHH!!!"

Yukino's scream was gut wrenching but you couldn't get a chance to even look to her as the roaches were now closed in. You would have to keep your mind from her fate, as much as her screaming kept ringing in your ears. As the roaches extended their talons as well as their salivating mandibles, you steeled yourself for the onslaught.

<GREAT SUCCESS>

The aliens' hissing erupts into shrill shrieks as their talons slash wide, attempting to no doubt decapitate you. You dodge the first barrage, seeing their talons quickly yet predictably slicing forward.

'Disarm them and move on,' you plan, as the closest alien lunges forward with a vicious bite of its mandibles.

It's reckless, just like their wild charge to bike and you deftly side step its attack. Using the momentum of your dodge, you press hard against the ground of your landing and give a grunt of effort as you put full force on a downward slice. With a swift slash, you bring the blade down on the roach's neck, sending its beady head skipping to the other end of the tunnel. A spurt of viscous, brown fluid splatters your suit, as the alien's decapitated body twitches and spasms next to you.

'I don't have time to kill them for good', your thought continues as the other alien moves to your flank.

You don't have time to dodge it, as its charge more than catches you in mid recovery from your earlier slash. Its full body presses against you, as well as painful pinpricks on your stomach as the alien's mass begins to move you back against the tunnel's wall. A resounding slam against the concrete causes your suit's lights to blink as the alien's strength holds you in place along with its lower pincers against your stomach.

You grunt and shout in effort against the alien's pin, but it's almost impossible to break free even with the suit's enhanced power without getting disemboweled by the lower pincers. The alien doesn't waste a moment as you see it ready its remaining claw at you, no doubt the one you didn't blow up completely in the tunnel's entrance. So, you resolve to gamble on a trick you remember Chris attempted during your fight in the forest.

'Just, got to stop them for now...'

With the hand holding the sword, you retract its blade with the lower button and hold the hilt's opening straight up to the upper talon. The alien's massive talon swings for your head, and the extending blade meets it in mid flight. The bisected remains scatter limply to the tunnel's floor, though the alien only increases its grip on your stomach driving those pinpricks even deeper into you. It wouldn't keep you held on much longer, as you once again retracted the blade and aim straight into the alien's midsection.

A revolting squelch and crunch resound in your ears as the sword pierces the alien's stomach, but it barely relents in force. Using the suit's strength, you lift it up the alien's impaled body and bisect it with a maddened yell. The pinpricks in your stomach loosen up, and you quickly kick the alien's twitching body away from you.

"Paula!" Yukino's voice resounds in the tunnel, earning your attention forward, "there's more coming in!"

You barely get a chance to see Yukino's still ongoing fight with the roach, as you spot the skittering forms of the remaining roaches moving quickly against you both.

Even without their limbs or even whole sections of their bodies, these aliens had proven to be beyond relentless. They moved as a surprisingly fast speed, not even hobbling as they seemed to just adjust to the lack of body parts. It was a disturbing sight you didn't dwell on, as you charged straight ahead to the approaching swarm. Though, as you did, you quickly saw Yukino's state in fighting that roach.

She was bleeding from a visible gash in her scalp, no doubt a glancing hit from the roach, as well as several cuts on her arm. Her opponent looked worse though, as it was missing one of its talons as well as part of its torso. Yukino's small size had no doubt given her an advantage over the alien, but you knew she'd need help fast if you were to make sure she survived.

'Please, just hold out for a little longer.'

Even with the pain in your stomach and shoulder, you didn't slow down as you made your way to the collapsed bike and mounted it to meet your oncoming pursuers. As the skittering roaches made their way to you quickly, you once again gripped the sword's hilt hard before leaping to the attack.

<GREAT SUCCESS>

'Two in the front' you examine, as you bring down your sword on the first roach's head, splitting it in half along with the rest of its body.

The roach's left half twitches, its front talon still trying to pierce your neck but it tumbles forward pathetically. It's slow enough that you don't bother dodging and focus your attention on a new roach lunging at you with a shriek. Even with its top left side missing, it still manages a wide slash to your torso with its upper talon. It only reaches to your shoulder before you slash the sword up and cut the talon completely off.

It almost tumbles forward into you and you see its mandibles widen to catch your neck. Without much room to dodge, you raise a foot to kick at the roach's body. It didn't move back an inch, but you only needed keep the mandibles away as it pressed you against the bike's frame. You can feel the pinpricks of its lower pincers again, but only for a second as you stab the blade forward into its neck and take its screeching head clean off with a swift slice.

The body still attempts to grab hold of you but you deliver another heavy cut to its abdomen, cutting it in half and leaving its twitching remains to the side. With the roach's body off of you, you see the three remaining roaches all converge on you from the front in another reckless charge. Lacking true legs, their speed was somewhat reduced, giving you a chance for a heavier attack.

You planted your foot back, held Erick's sword at the ready and placed your thumb on the lower button. The roaches all lunged with a leap at the same time, their wings extending out and their wicked talons extended to end your life. With a single, swift motion, you drew a slash across all three at once, as the blade extended to almost dig into the walls of the tunnel itself. The suit's muscles bulged with power as you pulled everything you hand into this attack.

A revolting deluge of brown, viscous liquid splashed over you as the roaches' remains splattered to the floor and walls. You'd been reeking of that disgusting smell that followed their entrails, but you ignored it as you took in a breath of relief.

"AAAEEEGGGH!!!"

Your relief was cut short, as you saw Yukino being pinned down by the remains of the now headless roach you'd killed at the start of the melee. It had managed to disarm her, but was having a hard time hitting her with the larger talons given her size. Without a moment of hesitation, you took a running leap towards them using the suit and delivering a slash from above to the alien's midsection.

It split apart like a log of wood, twitching in place and Yukino used the opportunity to quickly move back to the tunnel wall. The roach's twitching body finally stopped as you tore it to pieces with the two swift slashes from Erick's sword, before turning back to Yukino.

"P-Paula...it really hurts..." she cried out, holding the bleeding areas of her stomach where the lower pincers had gotten her.

About six different areas were punctured on her sides and abdomen. All of them about a penny in width and seeping out blood at an alarming rate. The ones on your own body were were almost benign compared to hers but you figured the alien's lower pincers had probably punctured deeper due to how much smaller she was compared to you.

Either way, you had no time to waste in order to get her medical attention.

"Yukino, don't take your hand off that" you commanded, moving closer to her, "please just hold on a few moments."

The pained grimace on her face only nodded in reply, as she kept pressure on the wounds she could. You hoisted her up in your arms, causing her to wince in pain as you began moving forward. Every step elicited a slight whine from her as you made your way over the bike and the carnage of the tunnel entrance. As the dim lights on the platform greeted you both, an eerie sight held your attention to the upper platform.

Neither Dante, Allie or Kurtis were overlooking the lower platform from the upper walkway. What's more, there were no new fresh corpses around the broken escalators or the upper walkway's stone railing. Thoughts of a horrible outcome for the others surged in your head as you approached the downed elevators. The middle sections had been blow completely apart, leaving no gap for a normal human to even jump up from the base.

It was barely a hindrance as you used the suit's leg musculature to propel yourself up from the base with a running jump. Yukino let out a yelp as you landed up there, the pain in your left shoulder coming back. The adrenaline was starting to leave your body, as the strain was starting to take hold on your arms. You took a look around the upper platform, seeing a new display of carnage as roach bodies lay exploded to pieces everywhere; some with trails of blood leading further into the platform.

'They must have headed out of the subway' you surmise, quickly moving forward to find them.

As you headed further in, another gruesome sight greets you as a severed human arm and a small mound of roach body parts line the walls and floor of the subway's escalator entrance. You make your way quickly to the elevator as several footsteps descend to its landing. Allie and Kurtis come into view of you, yet you speak first.

"Help! Please!" you shout, almost running into them, "Yukino's bleeding out and I can't stop it myself. Where's Tanjeet?!"

"H-he's in the entrance, but-"

You don't wait for Allie to finish as you rush even faster to the elevators. A destroyed maintenance grate closes off the entrance but you run through the massive hole in the center. The others are huddled up beneath the stone awning of the entrance, but you spot Tanjeet immediately tending to a slumped Chris.

"Hey, Tanjeet I need your help!" you exclaim, no doubt alerting the others nearby, "Yukino's bleeding out and-"

"Paula, stop!" Allie speaks up again behind you, "He can't help! He's out of supplies."

Oh, I thought you meant for Tanjeet to get the supplies.

My bad, writing.
>>
>>4050106

"What do you mean, you always carry a bag full of-" you start, before hearing a weary sigh from Tanjeet.

"I used up a lot of supplies to get Rick and the FBI officers patched up" he states, finishing up wrapping Chris's...right stump, "and the last of my bandages are on Chris now. There's nothing left Paula."

"Can't we go get more?" You ask frantically, looking around to the others, "there's got to be a pharmacy out here we can reach and-"

"No use, Gantz's map isn't going to let us" Kurtis interjected, now pointing out to the awning's edge, "we go any further than the entrance here, and the beeping starts in our heads. One of Rick's FBI friends proved that when they tried to book it out of here."

Your breathing got a little more raced, as possibilities began to get deleted out with further revelations. Yukino let out a groan of pain and you saw how much blood was beginning to seep through your own hands. Tanjeet immediately motioned her to his side and you placed her down next to Chris as he began to apply pressure onto the wounds. You could only look and try to think of a solution, when a familiar voice chimed in behind you.

"What about the emergency kits" Luis spoke up, earning a look of surprise from you, "they always have them in station clerk desks."

"No dice" Dante added, sitting down near a pillar, "looked around the upper platform and that booth isn't there. Pay stations are still there of course, but no station booth."

"What about the station maintenance rooms" Luis continued, earning a look of confusion from Dante, "Not the ones on the platform though, the ones in the tunnel system where the rail workers are at."

The words were a spark in your head, as you remembered a large maintenance door and divet where Yukino had attacked the roach in the tunnel. If there was a chance to find the supplies in there then you would do well to head there for them.

"I know where one of those is" you reply, conviction building in your voice, "we can head in there and get out quick before anymore of those things return. Tanjeet, please keep her stable, I'll be back quickly."

"Paula, there's something else though" Allie interjected, and you held yourself back from saying 'Can it wait?', "when we went into the tunnels looking for you, Yukino and Chris, we got ambushed by those things and they took Claire and Silvia. If we go back in, we'll have to split up to look for them and the supplies."

'That's who the signatures were from...' you concluded in your head.

"We can't wait any further either way" Kurtis states, readying his rifle and launcher, "Allie can go with you to get the supplies, but we're going to head over to find those girls. It's only a matter of choice on your part Paula."

You felt everyone, even Rick and the officers', eyes on you in that second. It wasn't any different than any other decision you had made before, yet you still wondered what Erick would have done in that moment.

"Allie, come with me to the maintenance room" you command, and she nods in responds holstering her net gun and pistol, "Kurtis and Dante can handle getting the twins. I saw it not that far from the tunnel entrance on the right wall, so it shouldn't be too far."

"I'll come with you too" Luis adds, standing up to meet you both, "I dropped that suit the ball gave me in the bathroom, so I'll look for you both there. And more because...I'm sorry about everything Paula."

"Fine, but let's get moving" you reply, and motion them to move quickly to the escalators.

"Hey, what about us?" Rick speaks up, looking almost panicked in tone, "what if those things come back? We don't have your suits!"

"Then you should have listened instead of being difficult" Dante retorts, earning a look of despair from the officers, "Just yell if anything happens, Tanjeet and Chris should be able to help."

You could hear a grumble of frustration from Rick as you descended down the subway again, followed by Dante and Kurtis's heavier footsteps. You paid it no attention, as your determination to save Yukino superseded it.

<2:15:01>

"Dante had been expecting an ambush" Allie recalled, as you entered the tunnels, "But I don't think even he knew just where they were even with that radar. Even with Chris's help, we almost lost everyone back there."

She'd been recounting the events on their end up to now as you made your way to the maintenance room entrance. They had apparently arrived from in the station's entrance and, almost immediately, the FBI personnel tried to make a run for it along with Rick, but stopped the moment one of their bombs detonated. Not that they would have made much help as they had refused to put on the suits and only Luis had brought one over.

They had argued in a panic for some time before Kurtis shut them down and decided to look for you. That's when the were ambushed, the twins were dragged away and Chris arrived to attack the swarm on the station. Even though he killed a lot of them, he didn't account for the ones on the ceiling before Dante and Tanjeet had to rescue him out of there.

"I can't believe they managed to get Chris, even with that weapon..." you stated, earning a nod from Allie, "wait, we're close, follow me."

You stopped the discussion as you found the divot with the gray colored metal door. In any other scenario you would have used the handle, yet instead you readied one foot for a solid kick to that door. With the suit's enhancement, the kick managed to displace the door, hinges and part of the frame itself to a throttling slam on the concrete. Allie and yourself moved in quickly inside of the large, dimly lit hallway.

"Radar tell you where these tunnels lead?" Allie asked, looking around, "Cause I don't see any maps, anywhere."

"No, nothing" you replied, looking at your radar screen showing your signatures nowhere in the tunnels, "so much for reliable tech Gantz. Guess we'll have to wing it."

"Wait, maybe we won't have to completely wing it" you infer, looking around the top parts of the hall, "look for any signs near splits in the hallways or intersections. They might have something hanging off of a wall side or ceiling that can probably lead us to the maintenance room."

"Alright, I'll keep an eye out" Allie replies, also following your gaze around the sides, "also, keep an eye on the radar Paula. There don't seem to be any of those things in here, but they could come in at any minute."

You nodded in reply, and kept moving forward to your expected destination.

<2:10:14>

"Maintenance & Storage Room!" you call out, looking a metal sign hanging from the side of the intersection, "that has to be it, let's go Allie!"

Not too much time had passed since you had left the entrance of maintenance tunnel, yet you had found many of those signs right where you had guessed. It had been an educated guess to look for the signs on the walls of the intersections as you remembered they had similar layouts in the police station storage rooms. Figures that maintenance tunnels would follow a similar layout, though you were still glad that you guess was correct regardless.

The next turn revealed a large set of double doors, which you and Allie took no issues in kicking them off their hinges once again. With the obstructing doors out of the way, Allie and you entered a large storage area that seemed to have hallways of its own. Supplies for wires, plumbing and hundreds of boxes lined the walls of this place yet it wasn't long before you found what looked like a small office near the far wall.

"Management office" Allie stated, as you both moved towards it, "they'll have a first aid kit right on the wall."

"Yeah, I see it" you replied, harshly kicking down the office's door once again off its hinges, "we need to get moving though. May as well take the whole damn box-"

"Holy shit...Paula" Allie spoke up in fear, as you literally tore the whole medical cabinet from the wall, "there's another swarm of those things, much bigger than before. Holy shit there's...hundreds of them...'

Holding the cabinet under your arm, you took a glance at your own radar and found that Allie's observation was dangerously accurate. Two swarms of those things were moving from separate stations, and were converging in Metro Station. Judging with how quickly they could move, it wouldn't take more than a 25 minutes to get to McPherson.

"How can they coordinate like that?" you ask in disbelief, and then shake the thought away, "Damnit, we need to get to the others, now!"

"Alright, but who's going where?" she asks, as you both make your way out of the maintenance room, "Dante and Kurtis are probably further down the tunnel, so we can find them on the radar easily. Might have to use that bike of yours to make it to them since Dante probably took Chris's."

"Hey guys!" Luis's voice sounded off further out of the tunnel, "where are you? I think I'm lost..."

"Luis!" you shout out into the tunnels, "If you can hear me, meet Allie back at the entrance! You guys will have to get the supplies to Tanjeet!"

You hear Luis's voice shout out a little closer now with an, "Ok!"

Following through on your plan, you hand over the first aid box over to Allie as you both keep sprinting for the entrance. Allie herself almost falls over when Luis almost runs into you both, yet you just swerve out of the way without losing a bit of momentum. The tunnels main access-way comes into view, as well as your tipped over bike. Moving over to the upper side, your suit's enhanced strength let's you easily right the bike back up

'Please still be functional...' you plead in your head, putting your hand on the control pad.

The screen flickers slightly, but after a moment you hear a slow hum from the bike's motor as well as see the blue lights shine to life on the sides; except the right side which just flicker slightly before staying dark. You almost let out a sigh of relief and amazement at the bike's durability, before you put a foot on the accelerator.

"Paula!" Allie's voice cuts in, along with a look of amazement from Luis, "we'll meet back at the entrance! Help them out if they found Claire and Silvia if you can, otherwise just get out of there!"

"Will do!" you shout back, and rev up the bike's accelerator forward with a growl.

The tunnel's dim lights are but blurs to you, as you make your way toward Dante and Kurtis.

<1:58:02>

You found the other bike parked near what looked like an upturned refuse pile and an eerie metal grate that looked like it had been opened forcefully. Your bike's on-board radar displayed two signatures near one of the tunnel's turns at high speed and lead you to this area where you saw them stop. No doubt it was Kurtis and Dante, but they were now somewhere out of the bounds of the map and heading over to an area filled with those aliens.

'This has to be the way in' you surmised, looking into that large hole, 'certainly looks like it could let out a dozen of those things at once.'

It wasn't time to ponder on it too much, as you made your way down that hole and found it had uneven stairs or steps to help mark its way to the surface. You used the lights on your pistol to look around the makeshift tunnel, and saw that it was practically carved and held up by everyday refuse. Street sign parts, car doors, wooden box sides, sofa frames and other such items seemed to frame this fissure into the earth.

It was about the only thing that kept you from being overwhelmed by the revolting odor within that place, which seemed to only get stronger the further you went in. It felt almost an hour before you found Dante and Kurtis's signatures...just standing outside of that large expanse of roaches. You were probably not even a few feet from their positions, when you heard a horrifying scream. It was a young woman's scream and it was followed by yet another.

The sudden dual burst of sound almost caused you to jump as they reverberated from the concrete and metal laced walls of the tunnel. Then, the hissing started, no doubt from the roaches beyond your position, yet it almost seemed in unison. The noise was eerily controlled, like they were almost singing to a tune; yet these thoughts were in the back of your mind as you quickly made your way to the others.

The wide passageway of the tunnel expanded almost comically as you hit a turn and exited it to what you could only call a carved chamber. The walls were littered with even more refuse and junk like rotting wallpaper and several massive pillars of garbage seemed to reach to the ceiling of this area. And overlooking it all were Dante and Kurtis, crouched down behind a makeshift railing.

"Can't just let them do this Dante" you overheard Kurtis speak, as you crouched down and moved closer to them, "if we take out those pillars, the debris may give us an opening to get in and get out-."

"Even if we take them out, that big one won't let us leave alive" Dante hisses back, and takes notice of you approaching, "shit, Paula you need to leave right now. There's too many of these things for us to take and the twins are already-"

"Like hell they're dead" Kurtis interrupted him this time, trying his best not to shout "and I'm sure not going to let them die here."

"Wait, what is even going on here?" you ask, moving to look over the railing with them.

Your eyes opened wide to a living, swarming carpet of roaches. From your overlook, it was nearly 30 feet down from two circular ramps to several dozens of the aliens, circled around a large, central platform. Its design and shape was truly alien, almost organic with the contorting, swirling architecture more than half the chamber's width. The roaches themselves all seemed to their attention however on the central four figures on that platform.

Claire and Silvia were at the very edge of that platform, wrapped down to the platform by some sort of brown resin but trying to break free still. The other two were alien: a massive insectoid creature with a bloated abdomen seemingly attached to the center of the platform while the other was almost human in stance yet betrayed by the roach sections of its long, crowned head, talons and torso. And all of this, was happening but a few hundred feet down below the surface of a bustling city.

"We can only guess what they're planning on doing" Dante answered, looking back at the spectacle, "but whatever it is, that big one in the center seems to be in charge of everything. Not even the one with the big head moves without it hissing anything."

"Christ..." you uttered in disbelief, and then shook yourself stead, "well, whatever it is we're doing, we got about 10 minutes to get it done. There's a huge swarm coming in from the other side of the rails and we need to get back to McPherson if we have any chance of living through this."

Think about it - they don't do anything without that central bug telling them what to do. It's clearly acting as some kind of hivemind, so at the very least the bugs will probably be far less coordinated without that fucker sticking around.
Who knows, maybe we'll get extra lucky and all the roaches will die without their leader?
Either way, I think our best shot for it is right now. We have three well-armed well-trained people right here, ready to move on the target, who isn't aware of where we are.

"Holy shit" Dante speaks in disbelief, looking up from his radar to verify your claim, "there must be just as many heading in from Metro Station, maybe more. We need to get out of here right now."

"Goddamnit..." Kurtis replied, equal disbelief in his voice, "even if we manage to escape with the twins, we could get intercepted either way. Isn't there anything we can do to slow them down...?"

"The others are probably already readying for what's coming" you explain, looking back over the railing, "but there might be some we could do. Didn't you say all of those bugs followed the big one's orders or something?"

Dante nodded his head before responding, "yeah, I don't how it does it but every single one of those things knows to just act in unison somehow. It's not like some leader or commander they follow, more like...it's controlling them."

"Then that's where we make our move" you simply state, and then look to Kurtis, "give me your rifle. I'll get three shots in at the head, chest and abdomen; while you two either head down there to go after the twins or start running out of here."

"Paula, what the hell kind of plan is that?!" Kurtis almost shouts, barely keeping his voice down as the chittering below seems to get louder.

"If Dante is right and that giant bug is controlling all the roaches" you retort, keeping your hand extending for his rifle, "then killing it has the chance of throwing the whole swarm into chaos. Giving enough time to get in there and getting the twins out."

"And if he's wrong...?" he counters with an expectant twinge in his voice.

"Well, that's where the 'Or start running out of here' part comes in" you finalize, and place your hand on his rifle, "it's not like we're gonna get another at that thing anyways."

"...Fine" Kurtis exclaims in defeat, before passing you the rifle, "just don't miss or we're dead meat out there."

You give a confident nod to Kurtis, as he places one foot on the top of the railing ready to jump down there. There's a smile on his face, but you know he's probably afraid of what could happen either way. Dante places a foot against the other end of the rail, mirroring Kurtis's stance.

"You know, it was just a theory," he speaks up, looking somewhat worried, "no real reason it could affect the roaches on the outside..."

"You haven't been wrong before with that intuition of yours," you reply, earning a chuckle from Dante.

The small reprieve ends as another set of screams are elicited from Claire and Silvia below. You look down and see that the massive bug's mouth has split apart and from it emerge several thick, barbed tendrils that approach Silvia and Claire. The screaming continues, reverberating around the chamber and enhanced by the even louder chittering of the roaches.

'Three shots' you think, aiming down the scope of the rifle, 'and we can end this whole thing right now..'

<SUCCESS>

Claire and Silvia's screams get louder with every inch those barbed tendrils close in between them. Along them, the roaches' incessant chittering reaches an almost chorus-like crescendo as the twins writhe and scream even harder than before. The tendrils are not centimeters away from their necks when they suddenly writhe and lurch as if shocked by electricity. The tendrils, the massive alien, the roaches and even the twins all seem to stop and peer right at the upper rafter.

Three flashes of light had escaped Kurtis's rifle, with three shots aim by you straight at that monstrous alien bug. Its bloated form almost winces back, as if it knew something was irregular had just occurred in those seconds. It didn't take long for the room to catch on, as nearly all of the aliens were now facing right at your position. You would have dived for cover had you not clutched your ears at high pitched shriek emitted from that giant bug.

Dante and Kurtis were just as afflicted, as both groaned in pain, clutching their ears and looking on at that monster. Your ears were ringing still as you saw that living carpet of roaches either take flight or skitter away towards your position. It was at that moment, when you saw the head of the massive bug alien burst to pieces like a chunky water balloon. Its chest followed soon afterwards, split apart by the rifle's shot, and so did its abdomen, bursting apart and flooding the platform in that rancid brown fluid as it collapsed onto the humanoid looking alien.

The roaches' charge was almost immediately shattered as nearly all of them collapsed to the ground in shrieking spasms, and those that didn't limply fell over motionless. The room's static chaos gave you and the others time to recover from the ringing and aim your sights on the twins. They were still thankfully at the pedestal but their bodies were buried in the fluids and viscera of the giant bug.

"Dante you were right!' you shouted, earning a nod from Dante, "Now get the girls out of there! We don't know how long they'll stay like this!"

You heard a shout of reassurance from them, as they both leapt from the railing and down to the ground floor. There was a crunching sound as they landed, no doubt probably squishing a roach's stomach or two underfoot, before making their way to the twins. Meanwhile, you kept a watchful eye for any signs of normal movement from the twitching roaches, not daring to shoot yet for fear of breaking whatever seizure they were in.

Then, an errant twitch in the podium caught your attention as Dante and the Kurtis were trying to remove the girls from that resin around their waists. It had come from the big bug's carcass, though it did not look like it had moved on its own as the twitch almost looked like something was moving inside it. Then, a long, thin looking tendril burst out of the bug's back, followed by several more in unison going down its back.

"GET THEM OUT OF THERE RIGHT NOW!"

Can we like, max out the range on the sword so we can keep as much distance as we can from it, though?

Your shout causes Dante and Kurtis to double take to you and then to the crunching, squishing noise behind them. Six, black tendrils writhe from within the body of the giant bug, whipping around it as if something was trying desperately to escape. The new situation only causes the guys to start clawing at the resin faster, yet even with the suit's strength at their side their progress is strained at best.

'I have to buy them more time' you conclude, and pull yourself back for a running start while holstering Kurtis's rifle.

"KEEP AT IT!" you shout, and take a running leap from the ledge as you draw Erick's sword.

The acrid air of the chamber whizzes past your head as you descend to the platform. Your aim is straight at those tentacles, as you arch your arms back with a descending slash to try to at least get some of them. All the while, another writhing tremor begins to take hold of the giant bug's carcass as you see if shake even more violently where the tentacles erupted.

<BARE FAILURE> +1 INT, - 1 AGR

With a single forward motion, your arms will the sword to the tentacles. The sheer force and speed of your slash could have cut right through concrete, yet it's not well aimed at the writhing tendrils before you. Regardless, as the sword moves, so too do the tentacles struck as you see two flying in pieces with the stumps spraying crimson blood.

The half second of surprise in your eyes fades just as quickly, as the remaining tendrils slam into you with surprising force. The world spins, as you splash onto the platform's viscera with a wet squelch several feet away, with your head dazed by the impact and the momentum your landing. The Dante is quick to help you up, right in time for a much louder squelching, crunch to resonate from the big bug's carcass. Two long, thin, black blades emerge from the carcass and quickly shred the remains above it like wet paper.

From the gore and viscera of the big bug, emerges a familiar humanoid entity. You hadn't taken a full look at the other cockroach alien, but it seemed all the more taller and imposing at ground level. It was well over seven feet tall, probably more with that massive headcrown and antennae, sporting both whipping tentacles and those long blades that seemed to retract back to its forearms. Your breathing was held throughout all of this, readying yourself for the slightest twitch of movement from it. Dante was reaching for his own weapon as well, while you could hear Kurtis and the girls' breathing also increase.

The twitch came in the form of a hiss, as the alien's mandibles split its lower jaw apart and rows of human like teeth seem to coat the inner part of its jaw. You got up with Dante's help, as he began to fire off at the alien with shots from his own rifle before diving to help the twins. To your horror, the alien's body almost seemed to predict the shots as it evaded them with ease, almost contorting itself around the shots themselves. The alien closed the distance at an alarming rate with its evasive momentum, and you drew Erick's to meet it head on.

Like in the tunnel and the apartment, you drew the sword back and swung it all your might at the incoming alien. The sword's blade grew longer as you pressed the lower button to increase its range and you readied yourself for another torrent of ichor. It never came, as you felt heavy, insurmountable resistance hold your sword back. You stared in complete disbelief as the alien's chitinous hand had managed to catch it. You pressed with even more might against the alien's grip, but even with both arms and the suit's strength this monster managed to easily hang on with a single hand.

"How the hell-"

It was all you managed to get out before the alien's foot crashed against your chest cavity and sent you skidding backwards off the platform. The sword's grip loosened from your hand as the suit's buttons blinked in response to the damage, and you saw the alien start to make for the others.

"MOVE!"

Your voice resonates through the chamber, as the alien reaches Dante. The sheer speed at which it manages to strike him beats out the sound of your voice, as Dante is hit with a similar kick to the chest. His body bounds back, only stopping as he hits several roaches after leaving the platform. A few feet away, Kurtis takes this opportunity to step back and away from the alien; retrieving a net gun from his side holster.

The alien hisses at you both, before going straight for Silvia and Claire. They girls manage another scream before a flash of light emanates from your side arm and the alien evades with a side step. Before it has time to recover though, Dante's own rifle lets out a flash as the alien has to back step in order to evade the shot. This continues on as Kurtis's net gun, lets out a shot that manages to zero in on the alien's body.

Even with its inhuman speed, the net opens up to the alien's torso and starts to wrap it up before it extends both of the blades and rips the netting apart at its forearms. It hisses in frustration but neither you nor the others let up the barrage, hoping that something or anything between your rounds of fire will hit it or at least slow it down long enough to get the girls unwrapped.

"Just like the warehouse!" Kurtis shouts out, looking over to you, "sooner or later, something's gotta hit him!"

<SUCCESS>

'Suppress the target' you recall, trailing your shots for the alien's next movement, 'don't let it have a moment to breathe.'

The alternating screen of shots kept a near constant barrage on the alien, as the constant firing rate had kept it on its toes. It was a tactic that had helped to assuage the major flaw of Gantz's weapons, their delay timers and recharge. With the near continuous rate of fire from your weapons interchanging between each shot, the alien didn't have moment to even approach Claire and Silvia, much less you, Dante or Kurtis.

The continuous hisses of, no doubt, frustration kept up as the alien's near futile attempts to move forward. Yet, it didn't seem to slow down one second as it seemed that every single shot was being evaded to a ludicrous degree of precision. What felt like several minutes had gone by as the alien didn't slow down for a moment as it kept its evasive movements around the platform. Then, Kurtis began to move forward towards Claire and Silvia.

"Kurtis, what are you doing?!" you shouted, continuing to chain your shots with Dante's, "if we break formation it'll-"

"Yeah, I know!" he interrupted, and pointed at the twins while shooting off another net, "we can't get them out of that shit on the floor since it just keeps growing back whenever we tear at it. And there's no telling how long we can keep this up before those other roaches get up."

"Wait, what the hell are you suggesting?!" Dante replies in a shout, aiming and firing another shot, "This isn't the time to be a hero, damnit!"

"I'm not, believe you me," he replied, and pointed straight at the pedestal below the girls, "on my signal, blow up the floor below them. If it's hollow, like I think, then it'll snap right off, I'll catch them and you two can cover me while we break for it."

It wasn't long before you heard another hiss at the other end of the chamber, as you glimpsed a roach starting up with a talon clicking against the wall for leverage. Kurtis was less than a few feet away from Claire and Silvia now; as the alien continued to evade the suppressing fire. Even if you didn't follow through on Kurtis's plan, you knew it wasn't going to be too long before the other roaches started to regain their heads.

"He's right!" Silvia speaks up, trying to struggle against the resin, "they got our feet sealed into the ground. Just-"

Silvia let out a shriek as a long, black tentacle seemed to whip around and leave a long cut against her cheek. The alien let out a horrifying hiss as it continued to dodge, yet it seemed to be getting tired of dodging the barrage and started to attempt to prod attacks of its own. It wasn't going to be long before more of its attacks managed to reach beyond a small sting against the girls. Maybe, it had finally noticed a pattern in the shots before it attacked.

Whatever the case, Kurtis was inches away before you acted.

It had been playing you this whole time, letting you think you had it on a back-foot. Right down to your initial attack against it, this thing knew just where to strike and managed to do so with whatever kind of adaptations it had at its disposal. Playing dead, fooling you into attacking it and even giving you a chance to fight back. The alien had calculated a cunning play against your group and so far it had worked out expertly in its favor.

With signs of the other roaches waking, it wouldn't even need to attack you or the others to win. It was a chess game already in check and the only options now were built on desperation and wits of one of your teammates. A teammate that had now crossed into range of the alien's now renewed attacks. As Kurtis let out one last shot from his net gun, you thought of only one other thing that could salvage this situation.

"DO IT NOW!"

Both you and Dante fired off two shots against the floor beneath Silvia and Claire, making sure to aim as low as possible to the pedestal. The alien's fast movements evaded the last thrown net from Kurtis and as it began to close the distance, Dante fired off against it with his rifle. The alien's body twisted back, almost flipping backwards as it evaded the shot; one of many that had made several cracks and holes into the platform. You followed up on Dante's shot, keeping the alternating fire going before you charged straight ahead for the alien from the right.

You thought you heard Kurtis shout at you, no doubt telling you to stop, yet you ignored it, if it had come at all. The alien's evasive maneuver had managed to keep its momentum going as it began to close the distance between the girls and Kurtis. The platform's meter high ledge wasn't anything to the suit's power, as you leapt up from the ground to arc another slice against the alien. There was a sound of cracking to your left, as another shout from Kurtis and now the twins had been elicited.

It was ignored once again, as the alien's own blade collided against Erick's sword. There was a moment of satisfaction in your eyes as you determined that it probably hadn't expected something like this as it hissed a shriek of anger at you.

"Let's dance, you ugly bastard."

This thing had proven to be much stronger than you when it had stopped Erick's sword single-handedly. It beyond your own speed, as it managed to maintain its momentum even when dodging incessant shots from your whole team. With its more apt mind, it had managed to keep you all held to the chamber in spite of your plans to escape. And yet, even with its more vast abilities, this thing could still be fooled given enough of an unpredictable attack.

You focused yourself for an all out assault again, as you felt the crushing weight of the alien's strength as it pushed back against Erick's sword. Each attack would have to be as unpredictable as the next, without giving this thing any reason to expect a pattern all while keeping yourself away from its blades and tendrils. Close combat wasn't something the DC Metropolitan had trained you in, including dealing with armed individuals, the only difference was that the principle would need to be applied a thousand fold.

"TAKE THE GIRLS!"

Your shout ached against your lungs, as you began to feel another twinge of pain from your still wounded shoulder. It would have to be ignored, as the alien's strength won out against yours and you instinctively pulled back as it reared a strike with its other blade to hit you on the retreat. You gave it no quarter, as you aimed a slice against the extended limb, which was in turn deflected by the alien's blade which almost seemed to twist its forelimb to block. A flash of light emitted beyond the platform, which caused the alien's body to veer left away.

The ground erupted into more viscera and chucks of material, as you witnessed Dante line up another shot against the alien. Further away, you saw Kurtis heading for the ramps up to the top ledge with the girls, no doubt making their escape. The alien hissed in rage, as it sprinted to charge at Dante and Kurtis but not before you lined up a strike for its back leg. Somehow, quickly lifted up its leg and tumbled expertly to the floor to make up for the loss of momentum and was on all four limbs before its head hissed in rage at both you and Dante.

"I'll get you covering fire" Dante stated, reading another shot at the next sign of movement, "something tells me even if we make it out, this thing isn't letting us leave that easily."

"One hit, it's all we need" you reply, readying another strike against the alien, "one leg or arm."

<BARE SUCCESS> +1 INT, -1 WIL; BLEEDING OUT (4 Posts)

The alien's form seemed to clutch the floor of the platform, digging into the strange material below and cracking it under its powerful claws. Dante anticipated the alien's movement, shooting at it before the alien's body almost flew straight at you. The sheer speed of the lunge didn't give you enough time to dodge, as you barely managed to put the sword up to block. The alien's blades struck, and your arm almost buckled under the strength, as you were dropped to the ground to attempt to displace the damage, falling off the pedestal again.

You attempted to roll back quickly enough, but the alien's blade beat you to it as you felt its sharp point strike a few inches above your heart. A shout of pain left your lips, as the suit's defenses began to buckle through the flashing of its blue lights. The sound of the rifle's fire stopped a potential death blow to you, as the alien evaded backwards again. Your chest screamed in pain, as you forced yourself to recover and make another attempt to cut the alien apart.

Using the suit's strength, you willed a free arm to push you off the ground, then took a lunge of your own at the alien. Even on the back-foot, as it evaded Dante's attack, the alien whipped around struck you with several of those tendrils. The impact struck your head and knocking you to the ground flat, but not before you managed slice up to cut off two more of the tendrils. The alien shrieked again in pain, actually flinching back before Dante fired off another shot at it. The alien's body was still tensing with pain, as the shot seemed to reach it, before you witnessed it reach out for a roach squirming nearby.

A squirming splat rang out in the chamber, as a roach's upper body exploded to pieces. Behind it, the crouched form of the humanoid roach held out the remains like a shield against Dante's shot; who's eyes were wide with surprise. The now twitching lower body was tossed aside and the alien shrieked out as it readied another leap to strike at Dante. You wouldn't let it get up, as you pressed the sword's lower button, causing the blade to extend out to the alien's leg.

A sickening crunch, followed by a disgusting squelch, could be heard throughout the chamber. The alien let out a shriek, as it glimpsed back at you and its now impaled leg. There as no hesitation from you, as the suit's strength channeled a flick from your wrist to slice out the alien's leg. A horrifying shriek from the alien followed it almost trying to retreat behind the newly awakening roaches.

You were almost waiting for another shot from Dante, but noticed he was shooting at a now awakened roach approaching him with its talons. It wasn't going to be a pursuit you were willing to make right now, as you felt the liquid twinge of blood leaking from your wound. Even with the roaches now awakening, you had a better opening at escape as you saw Kurtis and the twins reach the entrance of the chamber.

BLEEDING OUT (3 Posts)

"Dante!" you shout, making your way to him as several more roaches begin to awaken around the room, "I need help, please."

He takes notice almost immediately after blowing up another roach torso.

"Shit...Paula!" he responds, running towards you and putting your arm over his shoulder, "you're losing a lot of blood, we got to get you out of here."

"I'll lose a lot more if I try to sprint out here" you state, sheathing Erick's sword and retrieving your pistol, "gonna need you to carry me out of here. Don't worry, I've got your back just don't drop me."

"Gotcha, hop on" he complies, as you climb on his back, slinging one arm around his torso, "Just hold on tight and watch your head!"

You don't get a chance to reply as Dante takes off in a sprint for the ramp. His running speed is almost as fast the alien, as he almost leaps to the other side of chamber. You almost have a hard time aiming your weapon, as you struggled to hang on. Thankfully, Dante's speed was able to quickly make their way past most of the waking roaches in the chamber. It seemed their once powerful and swift gaits had turned sluggish.

It made you wonder if it was a lingering side effect of killing the massive bug, but didn't think much on it as Dante made his way up the ramp. Any of them that managed to follow you, were swiftly dispatched by your pistol; not that any of them could catch you at your current speed. As you and Dante reached the entrance, you kept a cautious eye behind you to see if that monster would attempt to follow you out.

<1:47:21>

The humanoid roach never returned, as not even its shrieking reached the tunnels. It hadn't been a long trip, but Dante's speed didn't slow down as you reached the scrap entrance to the subway once again. The tunnel and the chamber's revolting air had seeped into your lungs so much, that you almost coughed in gasps as you breathed in the dusty air of the subway tunnel. Thankfully, Kurtis and the twins were there to assuage your fears that they'd not made it.

"Paula, you made it!" Silvia was the first to speak as you got off of Dante's back, "Oh my god...you're bleeding so much..."

"We need to get back to the others" Claire added, looking over to Kurtis, "and thank you so much...I-I...we..."

"We can continue pleasantries after we get her some help" Dante interrupted, and running to the bikes, "I don't think you can drive in your condition Paula. Hop on the back, we can still outrun the swarm in the-"

"Actually Dante" Kurtis interjected, pointing back to the other side of the tunnel "they're already here. But...they're...killing each other, just around the other bend."

"What do you-?" You started, before Silvia spoke up.

"We saw them, little roaches but still the size of dogs were eating each other across the bend. Kurtis almost had us take the bikes when we-"

"You were going to leave us behind?!" Dante shouted at Kurtis, who shot daggers with his gaze at Silvia's comment.

BLEEDING OUT (2 Posts)

"Dante" you interject, earning Dante's attention, "we can shout each other's ears off after I'm not bleed all over the tunnels. How about it?"

He gives you an frustrated look before letting out a sigh of resignation.

"Right, let's go" he admits, but not before giving Kurtis one last look, "we'll discuss this later. Paula, get on the backseat."

Kurtis doesn't say anything, though you can certainly see a degree of shame on his face. As you approach the side seat, Dante helps you up while you keep pressure applied to your still bleeding wound. The rumbling of bike's motor starts up, as the hum reaches the elevating back seat. Looking at Kurtis and the others, you see they are equally as ashamed yet you know their actions were almost tantamount to treason.

"Before I forget Dante, thanks for the ride", you state, earning a nod of gratitude from him, "And Kurtis, hope you understand that we need to stick together; there's more than enough bikes for everyone here."

"There's not enough seats on the other bike" Kurtis states, pointing to it, "How are we supposed to make it back like this?"

"Guess the twins will have to ride in each other's laps" you reply, causing Claire and Silvia to exchange an awkward glance, " either way, I think it's a given we're taking this bike now. See you back with the others."

Kurtis's shamed expression passes from your sight as Dante revs up the bike's engine and you speed away from the others at breakneck speed. It was a disturbing thought to think Kurtis could leave people behind, yet you weren't totally surprised. This pragmatic outlook of his wasn't anything new, as he had shown in wanting to kill Mahsann and Chris previously. You just hoped it could be addressed before it got someone killed.

<1:42:15>

The drive back was mostly uneventful, as Dante spoke out that the tunnels seemed pretty clear of most of the roaches on the radar. Besides the large swarm back in the chamber, which he stated seemed to be just staying put for the moment, and the remains of the swarm that was headed from Metro station, it seemed the assault on their nest had broken their offensive. It almost made you smile knowing that the worst part of this nightmare was more or less over.

As you and Dante reached the McPherson Station, you the growing pain on your should and chest had increased substantially. So much so that, when you finally arrived at the platform, Dante had to carry you out again to the second floor. Upon heading for the top most escalators, you were greeted by Chris holding out that massive weapon his with his remaining arm.

Hey, they made it back guys!" he shouted with a smile, and then noticed you, "holy shit...Tanjeet! Paula's wounded, get her some help!"

Chris actually dropped his gun to help Dante pull you up to the top of the escalators, where Tanjeet was waiting with what looked like a trauma kit and gauze. They pulled you up and set you down near a pillar to let Tanjeet work.

<BLEED OUT STOPPED: -1 STR, -1 DEF, -1 MOV>

Tanjeet's handiwork started with disinfectant, causing you grit your teeth in pain as he asks for help from Luis to raise your back slightly so he can get at the other end of the wound. Thankfully, this is over quickly enough with Luis's help, which helped keep pressure on the back part of your wound with gauze. It almost terrifies you how close the impact had been to your heart, which Tanjeet is no sooner to make comment on.

Throughout his aid, you recounted of your experience in the tunnels, the chamber, the fight against the super alien and your escape with the others. Dante kept them informed on the smaller details, interjecting to explain about his observation about the big bug's control over the other aliens and about the effect it had when it was killed. He subtly omitted the part about leaving Claire and Silvia behind, and about Kurtis's plan to escape the tunnels with bikes.

"It's gotta be their boss" Chris chimed in, after your retelling, "no doubt about it. Wish I still had my other arm, would have loved to fight it sword to sword along side you Paula."

"Honestly, I don't know it if would have made a difference," you admit, wincing as Tanjeet applied the last of the medical bandages, "we were fighting it three on one and it seemed to just be toying with us. Thankfully, I think it's going to be a while before they attack again."

"That really big one though" Tanjeet interjects, finally closing your wound, "sounded like an incredibly advanced form of swarm intelligence. To affect that many at once upon death, it almost sounds like they were psychically linked to it."

"It's worrying me though" Allie states, looking at her radar, "that big mass of signatures you pointed out hasn't moved at all since you told us Paula. What's more, the remains of that big group from the other station is moving down to join with them."

"Could be trying to bide their time" Luis adds, wiping his hands from all of the blood, "regroup and refresh before they hit us again."

"I hope that's all they're doing honestly" you blurt out, taking in a long, painful breath, "damnit...what about you guys? How's Yukino?"

Everyone fell silent at the question, causing a twinge of worry in your mind. Tanjeet was the first to speak up, though you could also sense concern in his voice.

"Well, Yukino is alive but with the amount of blood she lost from her abdomen...I don't think it's a good idea for her to keep on fighting."

He stepped back and pointed to Yukino's covered body, laying on the side of the pavement in some blankets. You didn't need to step forward to tell that she was deathly pale, and that her breathing was coming in quiet sighs. You were about to ask Tanjeet if there was more he could do, before a quick rush of footsteps up the stairs stopped you.

"Paula!" Kurtis's voice rang out from the escalators, as he and the twins approached, "There's something big, really big coming in from the tunnel."

It could be either a swarm or some kind of abomination formed by all of them.

Is there a gas pipe here we can use to cause an explosion when it comes?

Let's try to move somewhere where it's big size would be detrimental to it, where we could funnel and make it unable to manouver.

Focus on flanking and cris hits with the big gun where it hurts

We probably are almost as bad off as Yukino, if we fight our wounds might start bleeding again.

Yea if we can get into a tunnel or other chokepoint where they can't overwhelm us with numbers or have room to dodge our shots that might let us survive.

"Is it that human roach again?" Dante asked, picking up his rifle.

Kurtis shook his head, with a genuinely terrified look, "No, we have no idea what it is. But it sounded even bigger than that giant bug Paula killed in the roach tunnel."

The revelation caused the others, mostly the FBI officers to earn a look of terror in their faces. Though, neither you nor Allie were all that convinced.

"How can you be so sure?" Allie replied, still looking at her radar, "I'm still reading those hundred signatures from the inner tunnels and they haven't moved since those other roaches arrived. Did you see it?"

"N-no, but we felt the ground shaking" Silvia answered, and Claire finished her thought, "yeah, everything around there started shaking like an earthquake. And those smaller roaches all swarmed past us and headed for their nest."

"We left as soon that happened" Kurtis continued, "and unless you guys felt an actual earthquake out here as well, then-"

"Wait, I'm seeing something on the radar" Allie interrupted, earning everyone's attention, "the signatures, those bugs seem to be overlapping over each other. It's not some radar glitch this time either, since they're moving towards something..."

The worrying tone in Allie's voice caused you to open up your own radar screen, with the others surrounding you or Allie. Adjusting the screen to a wider range indeed showed you that swarm in the roach tunnel and the odd movement they were exhibiting. The dots on the radar seemed to be overlapping each other near a central signature, before coming closer to that one figure. Then, they all disappeared earning sounds of confusion from the others.

"They're all gone...?" Tanjeet spoke up, before losing his voice much like the others as the radar showed a new signature.

Your eyes went agape as a dot, almost four times the size of one of the regular signatures, popped up on the radar. What's more, it didn't remain static for too long as it started moving out of the roaches' tunnels, heading right for the subway lane. The only reprieve, was that it appeared to move much slower than any of the previous aliens you'd seen here.

"Christ...I hate being right" Kurtis spoke out, and looking over to the others, "anyone got any ideas? Besides just running in and shooting it dead?"

"What's wrong with that idea?" Chris joked, earning an annoyed look from Kurtis, "hey, it's not as if that isn't what we'd do either way. Why don't we set an ambush, corner it somewhere it can't move."

"Don't think that's gonna work" Tanjeet interjected, looking over Allie's radar, "it doesn't seem to slow down even in the tunnel's concrete. It might slow it down a little, before it breaks through."

"That rules out a cave in then" Dante adds, looking at you, "what about the gas mains? There's pipes running throughout the tunnels, just burst one and we could fry in there."

"And set off another explosion underground?" Kurtis speaks up, and begins another argument with Dante.

Can we group these two?

Find a chamber where we can move aeound and keep away from it, since ot seems to just destroy anything in its way going for a cramped space might not play in our favor, but having somewhere where we can dodge and manuver around it might be good
And to add to that, we make the eletrical trap or an explosion at the entrance to weaken it before the fight.

The argument had quickly turned into a shouting match from both of them very quickly. It seemed almost funny, considering what had just been revealed, yet Kurtis continued to oppose the idea of causing greater structural damage to the city. Dante's perspective was your own however and you knew full well that you needed to get this resolved before that thing reached the station. For a moment, you wondered if Erick had shouted as much as you were about to.

"BOTH OF YOU BE QUIET!"

Your shout rang out over the whole group, as Kurtis and Dante looked at you for an answer.

"Slowing it down isn't going to do much for us" you started, as everyone's attention was on you again, "and we don't know what thing is capable of if we were to take it head on. So, we need to trap it in the subway station and kill it somehow."

"It's non negotiable Paula" Kurtis spoke up, earning a look from Dante, "I'm not going to responsible for another incident like the one in April."

"Then we'll find another way" you reply, and then recalled something you saw earlier in the tunnel, "Allie, do you think those extension cables and couplings we found in the maintenance warehouse could be hooked up to the rail system?"

Everyone's eyes shifted to Allie, as she thoughtfully responded, "Yes, I think we could but I don't know if we'll have enough time to set it up. I've never worked with electrical systems before, much less a railway."

"Then find a way" you command, earning a look of worry from her, "otherwise, we'll have to use the fuel barrels from that same maintenance room to blow up the tunnel itself."

"I already said it was non-" Kurtis starts, before you flash him a glare.

"And I'm not going to let our team die because we didn't use an option we had available. You helped to make drones before, help her with this and we won't have to explode the gas mains."

Kurtis returned a glare back to you, before sighing and nodding in response.

"Everyone else still able to fight", you continued, shifting your gaze to the others, "we're gonna need two groups on this to make this work. One to lead that thing to the trap and another to get those supplies from the maintenance room to the station."

"I'm down to help in leading that thing Paula" Chris perks up, surprising everyone.

"I'll go with him" Dante states, looking over to his side, "Everyone else can go to that maintenance room with Kurtis and Allie, and start setting up both traps. One in the tunnel, and another on the rails to the platform."

The others nodded, and even some of the FBI officers were getting up to aid in the effort; except for Rick. He seemed to just be sulking next to Yukino, which you could just ignore for now. For the moment though, at least you had a plan set to account for this new threat, though you could see the fractures in the group. You were no leader, but at least you could keep it from self-destructing.

"What about Paula?" Dante spoke up, "what will you be doing?"

"I don't think I'll be of too much help out there at the moment" you admitted, earning a look of worry from the others, "I've lost a lot of blood, but not as much as Yukino. I'll keep her and Rick company while I rest, but I'll defend them if trouble comes around."

"I won't argue with that" Tanjeet responds, giving you a look of sympathy, "considering what you just went through. Though, I'm worried we're going to be outgunned for what's ahead, since you wont be joining us."

"Actually, I can help you that as well" you reply, getting up with a groan, "I left a dufflebag in the tunnels full of guns where I entered the station for the first time. It should still be there, you guys can arm whoever needs it with what's inside."

"Thanks Paula, we'll check it out!" Silvia and Claire spoke out in unison, running down the escalators.

"Well, we better hurry and get this thing set up" Dante reminded, and everyone standing nodded in confirmation, "let's hustle people! And stay safe Paula."

The others left for escalator, though Chris gave you smile before he descended with the others. It was too fast to return, but you shared his sentiment for this plan. As the sound of their footsteps descended underground, you headed over to the concrete wall where Rick and Yukino resided. It was still painful to walk with your injury, but you made it to them without pause.

You let out a wince as you sat down, though not earning even a glimpse from Rick who's sullen head hung staring at the ground. It wasn't the real concern, as you looked over to Yukino's face. The sight was much worse up close, as her skin looked almost stark white compared to the blue and red veins almost seeping out of her skin. You reached out a hand to her forehead and let out a sigh as you felt a dull warmth. They had done good to find her the blankets, as she would have been deathly cold without them.

"I didn't want to do it you know" Rick's voice blurted out, almost making you take your hand back, "we were all just doing our jobs here. I didn't want to look weak, incompetent or whatever excuse sounds better for you, Paula."

"Rick, it's not-" you attempted to speak, but Rick kept going.

"I've seen people ridden with bullet holes, split open with knives and every after effect of physical trauma with vehicles. And yet I can't take my mind off of what's happened here, how something like this can just..exist."

"I'm not th-" you started again, but he continued without listening.

"Yet somehow, you could still do it all. This whole thing, the killing, keeping this little secret from everyone who trusted you, yet somehow at the end of the rope I'm the one who ends up feeling apologetic about it all...ain't that some bullshit?"

Rick let out a small laugh, though it sounded like sobbing with how sullen he looked. It would have been pitiful, yet it had ultimately been his own doing. Could he even really complain if he wasn't in a similar condition to you or Yukino?

Rick did what he thought was the right thing to do. He's not really to blame, in the end - Gantz is. Gantz set it all up to align perfectly, all so he could get a fresh batch of soldiers to play his game.

A part of you wanted to call Rick out on his attitude and on the events that had led up to his entry into Gantz. But you knew full well that what had transpired had been ultimately out of everyone's control. He only acted in what he thought was right, something you would have done as well had things not turned out like they did. You let out a sigh and gave Rick a look of genuine comfort.

"We couldn't have told you" you started, though Rick kept his gaze on the floor, "Gantz would have killed us if we even if we mentioned it. And now the worst part of it is, that you're under in that same place with us."

Rick didn't respond, as he kept his face sullen and staring to the floor. He was a headstrong leader to the station, someone who stubbornly looked at trouble in the face and growled back at it. To see him like this would have demoralized you in another time.

"We all did what we had to do to survive" you added, earning a chuckle from him, "it's not something I am proud of either. I know you're not proud of what you did as well, but you were ultimately pushed to do something to keep someone from putting strings to you."

"I guess you'd know all about that" he replied, his sullen expression not facing the wall, "it's just a matter of how much you end up living with yourself afterwards. At this point though, I don't know if I should keep living..."

"Rick-" you stated, before Rick stared to look at you.

"They were going to indict everyone there Paula" he interrupted, his expression changing to apologetic, "we all did what we could, we followed the rules, yet ultimately it doesn't matter to people above you. Did you really think I wanted to use Luis to get to you, to smile and cheer while the feds took you away?"

"I already know the answer to that Rick" you simply replied, earning a sigh from him, "but I'm honestly through blaming myself for things that happened in the past. If we want to live, we need to look in the present and plan for anything in the near future."

"Heh, here you are giving me a sermon and I'm your superior" Rick stated with a slight chuckle, before laying on the wall again "I just don't know anymore Paula. It's all so impossible to imagine, much less think about, even that little girl is managing it better than me."

"Give it time" you respond, looking at Yukino, "and if you need help, then we'll be here if you just ask."

Rick didn't look back at you, but you could swear you heard a 'Thank you' as he looked above. You didn't stare further, as you let yourself take a rest, sitting right next to you Yukino.

<1:31:10>

A rumbling, or rather a quaking beneath you caused you snap awake from your nap. You winced slightly as you quickly got up to look for what was going on around you. Not long after, Yukino let out a cry of pain as you saw her body bounce slightly from the covers, as well as a cry of exasperation from Rick. Then, you heard a low gurgling shriek emanate from the subway's entrance.

"What the hell was that...?!" Rick's voice resounded, before another rumble shook him back to the wall, "Paula, what's happening-"

"Grab Yukino, and follow me close" you reply, trying to keep your steps steady, "it's better if we're aren't a corner if something happens. And stick close to me."

Rick uttered a 'Sure', before heading to Yukino's side and doing his best to pick her up gently from the ground. It elicited a groan of pain from Yukino, but he held her close and made sure she wasn't bumping her wounds into anything. As he got stabilized through the tremors, he followed you right behind as you descended to the escalator. The tremors were getting almost constant now, as you and Rick had to stick close to the railing to keep from falling over.

As you reached the bottom steps, a much louder gurgling shriek almost pierced your ears along with a crackling explosion you could only describe as rock being blown apart.

"NOW!!" Kurtis's voice rang out in the tunnel, as you approached Rick approached the landing.

Almost immediately, a sparkling flash of what you could only describe as lightning rebounded to the entrance of the subway from the very back end of the tunnel wall. The sizzling spark of live electricity seemed to crackle with wild abandon just beyond the platform, along with the shrieking cries of something spasming with quaking convulsions.

This went on for a full ten seconds, as you could only shield your eyes from the sparkling light, before a sound akin to a sharp explosion caused every light in the tunnel and outside go completely black. The almost complete darkness surrounding you was so extreme, only your body and Yukino's own were light up dimly by the suit's buttons. Rick's breathing became ragged as you could see him start for the entrance of the tunnel again.

"Hey, don't leave!" you shout, causing him to stop, "Stick to the corner, you'll be safer there than at the surface if something happens. Shoot your gun if anything happens and I'll come running, ok?"

"Fine, but Paula" he responds, as you start heading for the platform, "Good luck." .

You nod in reply, as you keep your steps forward as the tremors seem to increase again. Another gurgling shriek reverberated in the tunnel as you approached the railing overlook. Only the flashes of your team's weapons illuminated the hulking monstrosity splayed out among the tunnel's rail.

A massive, squirming worm or maggot yet moving about like a centipede with several short spiny legs seemed to just shrug off any shot from your team's weapons. It seemed to be covered in that same armor as the roaches, yet only chipping off as the shots connected and sporting two large protrusions from its backside. The front was somehow more grotesque as a large, toothy maw almost extended like a sucker towards anyone close.

By the time it took you to jump from the railing, it had managed to grab Tanjeet and was pulling him closer to its salivating mouth.

Not gonna trust paula to be quick enough with a sword given her injuries and blood loss. Besides, against the bug things it seems like the guns have been working better...
Perhaps it’s due to hydrostatic shock? A sword only really injures the spot of the cut, but a firearm wrecks a lot more tissue than you might think.

The curved, hooked tongue of the alien grub had managed to latch to Tanjeet's side, as the barbs seemed to dig into his suit. The blood drawn from those incisions would be nothing compared to what awaited him if he reached the worm's cavernous mouth. Your lack of hesitation to jump in was met with the cries of surprise and horror from everyone in the platform.

Tanjeet's own voice screamed out in panic as the worm's tongue pulled him in closer, though you could see it was hesitating to retract its tongue back as quickly as it had shot it out. Maybe it was an effect of the electricity on its nervous system in that school-bus sized body, but you didn't question it further. As you leapt over everyone's sights, you aimed four shots at the worm's twitching, thick appendage.

Even if it was armored on the outside, the soft target would no doubt hurt it.

The tongue's spiny protrusions clung to Tanjeet like hooks, pulling him within the salivating range of the grub's mouth. You saw Dante and Kurtis's forms run forwards to the grub's body each firing shot after shot of their rifles straight to its face. The grub's massive body, in spite of its heavy appearance, just swatted them back with its tail. It would only do so much before flinching in pain as its tongue exploded into two squirming pieces.

Your shots on the descent from the upper platform had rung true, as they'd detonated squarely in the center of the alien's tongue. As the tongue separated, the alien's shrieking cry of pain almost knocked you out of your descent to the platform. The hard brick floor of the train platform met your legs, shaking your would and causing you let out your own cry of pain.

What would eventually cause you topple over was the grub's agonizing squirming on the platform caused the entire area to start shaking. You were holding onto your knee, attempting to hold on to your remaining balance as it seemed the entire subway was about to start crumbling from the impact of the grub's massive body on the walls and floor. In your shaking vision, you saw the others weren't faring much better, as they were either trying to hold onto a piece of subway structure or falling to the ground themselves; all the while attempting to hold their ears from the grub's horrific shrieking.

The pounding pain from your wound only seemed to get worse as the grub's thrashing continued. On the corner of your eye however, you spotted Tanjeet's form shoot out with one hand a green lit net from his weapon before he dropped to the floor as well. The net's anchors wrapped around the worm's tail, embedding themselves onto the metal railway. The grub's form lurched and spasmed and was stopped short by the archors rooting it in place. It caused the trembling in the tunnel to finally stop, as the grub attempted to break free from its anchor.

"GO NOW!" Tanjeet shouted, as you could hear metal creaking as the grub struggled to break free, "IT'S NOT GONNA HOLD IT FOR LONG!"

A sheer barrage of fire seemed to result from the entire room, as the others recovered quickly to start shooting the grub with everything they had. You struggled to get up yourself, as the pain in your side still weighed you down, but you could see that grub's exterior armor started to crumble under the repeated barrage. You were on your feet, and readying some shots of your own before the worm let out a gurgle from its throat and seemed to shake in a forward lurch.

From its mouth, as luminous green liquid sprayed forth from an tube-like organ now jutting from the folds of its mouth. A shout of warning came forth from Dante, as the liquid splashed a few steps away from it at first. You heard the quick hissing of a chemical sizzling against the concrete and brick. Thankfully, the liquid was luminous enough for you move your feet quickly to evade.

The grub's movements were almost like an unregulated water-hose, as it almost gyrated its massive body to attempt to cover the platform in its sizzling liquid. Its sheer density almost seemed like a gelatinous, continuous spray of bile several hundred times stronger than anything you'd seen in other acids from the forensics labs. From the sheer sizzling of the stone not a few feet from you, the ground beneath you soon became much lighter as you willed yourself to move.

As you did, you could also swear to hear the screams of the others. You shook away ideas of them being struck by that acidic fluid, as moved out of the way of the wide spray. It would be a hard sprint, and you chest ached from the added strain, but there as a set goal behind this. As you spotted Allie, thankfully behind a pillar with another pistol ready in hand.

'Just...gotta make it!'

<BARE FAILURE> +1 AGR, -1 INT, -1 MOV

The suit's muscular enhancements bulge your legs to action, as you take a heavy step forward towards cover. The acid's luminescent green approaches your position in a torrent, attempting to encompass your body as it descends from the worm's spewing maw. The distance isn't too long as the pillars where Allie is are almost within reach as you take another running step. It felt so close to you, as you felt something hot and wet splash on your left heel.

The sensation started as a slight tingle, easily ignored by your rushing adrenaline yet it soon erupted into a burning, scalding sensation. You didn't look back at your foot as kept moving forward, but the next step with it almost made you tumble as you could swear you heard your tendons melting away. It was slow enough acting to allow you to make it to the pillar before a sicking crunch of bone and blinding pain made you tumble to Allie's side.

She quickly caught you, as you screamed in pain while the acid continued to sizzle against the pillar's concrete. While Allie held you to cover, you glanced directly at the remains of your left limb. The acid had eaten right through the suit's covering and had worked all the way through the bone, leaving a white crusty sheen on your exposed flesh. From it, you saw you no blood flow out, but it didn't avert your head away from the blinding pain.

Then, you heard a metallic crunch as pieces of rail debris impacted on the pillar and around the floor of the platform. The splashing throes of the grub's bile stopped as it freed itself from the rails, and the quaking gait of its body began to move for the platform's overhang. The flashing of Gantz weaponry started right after that, as the sounds of rifle and pistol began anew. It let out another gurgling shriek, as its gait and attentions shifted to the lower rails where you saw Dante and Kurtis standing behind an acid melted platform.

"Allie...please, give me your gun" you told her, attempting to ignore the pain in your now gone foot.

"With how you are, you'd better stay in-" she started to reply, before you grabbed her wrist in command.

"Give me a fucking gun" your word had turned to command, "we need to aim for its mouth and I need another gun to get a decisive shot. Now please-"

Another shriek, far smaller than the grub's, erupted from the entrance of the main tunnel. You felt your blood turn cold as you quickly recognized the sound, only causing you to press on Allie's wrist harder.

"Shit, alright here" she stated, handing you off her pistol, "Just stay safe alright."

You gave her a nod, as she began to fire off with her rifle at the grub's exposed side. The barrage from the others had begun to actually damage its massive for as explosions of fluid and flesh began to range across its massive body. It didn't seem to slow down in spite of this as it slammed into the rail where Dante and Kurtis had been, while another shriek reverberated from the tunnel.

If whatever that shrieking was what you thought it was, then it was only reasonable to kill the giant grub before that thing arrived. The pistols' limiting range was a certain obstacle, so you aimed for the farthest pillar in the platform for a better vantage point. You couldn't stand up very well, or really walk without severe pain, so you got to your knees and took a diving roll for your new shooting location; right next to the worm's squirming form. As the cold concrete of the pillar greeted your gloved hands, the rancid stench of that brown fluid began to hit your nostrils once again.

The grub's body was covered in a chaotic pattern of heavy wounds. The torn and exploded flesh almost seemed to slough off as it continued to attack Dante and Kurtis, again and again. What seemed like a calculated and brutal attack, now had devolved into a reckless charge against a perceived enemy. In spite of its vicious lunging and biting attempts at the two, the grub's mouth had covered itself up in what you could only consider lips or flaps of skin that no doubt protected its flesh innards.

Even at the constant attacks from the others, you knew that it would take much longer than necessary to kill this thing before the other alien arrived from the tunnel system. You readied yourself to aim, six pistol shots right down this thing's mouth. Even if you hit the lips covering it, you'd probably only need a couple to hit the flesh for this thing to start agonizing again.

<SUCCESS>

The grub's assault continued to sent chunks of rocky debris flying with every missed strike, while your team's continued barrage kept sending chunks of the alien's flesh raining across the platform. It didn't seem to care at this point that its body was being reduced to mincemeat, as its attacks remained unrelenting as it dove in and after Dante and Kurtis. At the odd intervals that it struck, you saw its mouth flaps reveal that salivating maw against your two dodging teammates. In those precious seconds, you let out a full barrage of your own.

The grub had been led near the platform's pillars, as Dante and Kurtis had kept up their own small barrage against it, drawing it closer to your firing line. Its maw opened wide again, almost aiming for one of the pillars themselves as Dante and Kurtis dove out of the way again. The opening was wide, as you let out a burst of shots straight at the grub's maw. It closed almost immediately afterwards, as it slammed into the platform once again. This time however, its attention seemed to shift towards the closest thing nearby as it shrieked right at you.

You didn't have enough time to back away as the grub readied to lunge against you, in spite of the amount of continued shots now digging into its very innards. Your remaining leg urged you to move back, as the alien's body lurched forward for an attempt to ingest you before stopped with a gurgle. A sound of metal ringing through flesh erupted from the grub's side, as a long black blade emerged from it. The revolting sound continued as the blade moved to slice a wide gap out of it, until you saw a person's head emerge from it.

Before you could contemplate on who it was, the grub let out another disgusting gurgle as it you saw the front portion of its body bulge out partially before bursting like a rotten grape. The wave of nauseating brown ichor washed over you, as you almost keeled over from its bursting force. The grub's movements had stopped as you looked up, wiping away the fluid from your face and you caught a better glimpse of the person that emerged from it.

"Digest that shit, you bastard" Chris breathlessly spoke, now looking towards you, "hey Paula, didn't Tanjeet tell you to stay out of the fight with that wound of yours?"

He was haggard, still missing an arm and his face seemed to have been badly scalded yet the kid never seemed to run out of energy in spite of it. You greeted him with a grateful smile before speaking to him again. Or you would have, had a familiar shriek not rung out at the entrance of the tunnel once again. You and Chris turned to spot the figure emerging at high speeds from the tunnel's entrance, now sporting a set of buzzing wings and a makeshift peg leg made from what appeared to be rebar and girded metal.

It didn't want for your firing line to begin again, as it charged straight for the top platform. You could only hear the sounds of screaming, before a human torso fell from above.

the thing is probably rushing to one of the twins to breed them again, we know it needs time to do his things, that's why he kidnapped them and placed them in a safe nest because he can't rush it so he will probably try to take them away.
we saw that the guns work well to keep him at bay and focusing on dodging, and we know we already cut off some of those tentacles it has.
we are shit at melee without a foot so we can keep him dodging with the guns while Chris goes in for the kill with th sword like we did at the nest, Chris is probably even better at it than we are with his perm agr +5
one thing we should do is place at least one shot on his peg leg, its stiff, not articulated and not actually part of his body so it my be harder for him to dodge it out of the way, and without it he loses a lot of balance or else he wouldn't go for the trouble of making one.

The alien's shrieking, the flashes of gunfire and the screaming from upstairs had just started as Chris moved to your side to quickly help you. You took his arm steadily, but couldn't put support past your right leg. The pain was sudden, but it didn't stop you from seeing the blinking buttons on Chris's suit.

"Paula, see if you can help them" he advised, as he moved past you and began frantically searching through the grub's remains, "if that thing is as tough as you described it, then I'll need my big gun for it. GO!"

A part of you wanted to yell at him to help you and the others, but you knew full well what that monster was capable of. At the time time however, he probably hadn't even noticed your missing foot and subsequent movement impairment. Though, you knew it wasn't the time to back down as another scream followed by a wet splatter upstairs sank your heart deeper for your allies. It wasn't the time to dwell on such things, as you quickly called around for some assistance in getting up there.

"Allie! Luis! Dante!" you shouted, right before Allie's nearby footsteps answered the call, "we need to get up there now! Carry me and I'll provide some covering fire!"

"Are you insane?!" she replied back, looking genuinely distraught, "In your condition you'll just-"

"I SAID TAKE ME UP THERE, NOW!" you roared back at her, causing her to stare in awe at you, "Either you do it, or I'll crawl my way up there damnit."

Allie stared at you with a scowl, biting her lip to let her common sense take hold, before running forward and picking you like Dante did. You didn't have to tell her what to do next, as she bolted out of the underside of the overhang and straight for the main platform. It was there that you caught a glimpse of the dismembered torso splayed out in front of the pillars. It had been one of the FBI operatives, his ballistics armor and helmet had been torn apart like wet tissue paper along with his leaking entrails.

It was a sight you dwelled on for long, as Allie took a heavy leap up to the upper platform. The leap had taken her nearly ten feet above its safety railing, and you quickly caught a glimpse of the situation below. Two large blood splatters lined the upper platform, one on the railing which held the lower body of that one FBI operative, and another that held another FBI operative with his head now detached. The alien had made a direct beeline for Allie and Silvia's positions, who were now laying unconscious at the feet of that monsters while Luis and Tanjeet had moved up there to try and assist the others, shooting at it from the destroyed escalators.

The alien let out a hiss as it moved to swiftly strike at the incoming reinforcements, yet it hadn't taken notice of you and Allie descending to the upper platform. Readying both pistols, you aimed straight forward, attempting to predicts its movements a few feet forward.

<BARE FAILURE> +1 AGR, -1 WIL

The humanoid roach's wings retract back to its carapace and it drops to all fours at it dashes forward to Luis and Tanjeet. Their firing line would have struck true against the other roaches, but against this alien they were all avoided with ease. The alien's movements just ducked and weaved around their shots, its lowered frame no doubt allowing it greater maneuverability as well as making for a smaller target from shots at ground level. It wouldn't matter much against your own, as Allie and yourself let out a barrage against that monster from above.

In a flash of a second however, the alien's head turned to a new set of flashes from above and quickly rolled its body out of the way of your shots. Even with the perfect lead and a surprise strike, the alien had managed to still avoid your aimed shots and was now well aware of your presence. This thankfully didn't slow down Tanjeet and Luis's fire, yet you cursed Luis for not alternating fire with Tanjeet's own. It didn't help much further though, as the alien's momentum still drove it forward at blinding speed.

It dove straight at them with a shriek that almost seemed to paralyze Luis motionless. The alien's blades extended out as it aimed right for their torsos. You and Allie landed on the platform and immediately started firing at the alien to deter it to dodge but you knew it was already too close. You heard the sound of its chitinous blades slice into flesh as a spray of blood rang out from the escalators. A severed arm flew out from the landing, as you saw Tanjeet ramming Luis from the escalator.

The alien's other blade managed to miss Tanjeet's head by an inch as he tumbled from the other side of the escalator, the creaking of metal and a scream of pain signaling his descent. The alien let out another shriek and prepared to jump down after them, before you and Allie fired off against it once more. It deftly dodged, now standing on the platform railing for what you could only guess was a higher position. It wouldn't serve it well, as a green net shot out behind it.

The alien kept its footing as it dodged it with a twist of its body, as no doubt Kurtis had begun his own barrage from below. The safety railing where the alien had once stood, exploded to pieces as no doubt Dante had begun shooting it as well. The alien turned its head to let out a hiss against those that shot it, before dodging you and Allie's own shots once more.

The alien's attention turned to you once again, giving you a similar hiss before it dove from the upper platform with its buzzing wings spread out towards Dante and Kurtis. You cursed this monster's still active mobility, as you knew you had no chance to hit it from your current range.

"How the fuck can we hit something like that?!" Allie shouted, as she fired off another set of shots from her rifle.

You were pressed against the remains of the railing, leaning on shattered concrete as the alien flew to Dante and Kurtis.

Best to trade with her given our reduced mobility, I think.
Paula doesn’t have much of a choice given the severe leg injuries. Gotta snipe this cunt. Allie is still mobile and can get in close with dual wielding.
Who knows, maybe we will roll the first 20 of this century and learn a new feature of it.

Take the rifle and tell Allie to pick up one of the twins, if we separate them we will delay the fucker.....they shouldn't be close to one another to begin with

And fuck that anon again for making us store the one, luiz and tanjeet would be a small price compared to what is comming with that stored one, people have not realized that the stored ones fucks us ten times harder than anything that would happen at the moment of the roll
Now we depend on a 20 to offset that and we will be forced to store it.
>>
>>4076316
I wouldn’t have stored the 1 either.

On a different note, we really lost the only advantage that humans have when we lost the main character - psychic shit is OP even in the context of how ridiculous the aliens in Gantz are. There has to be a better way of prepping than just familiarizing ourself with equipment and tactics. DCs are large, our rolls are trash, and the ayys always have some more bullshit to pull out of their asses. It’s in the spirit of the setting, but damn if it doesn’t hurt to witness.

Can’t wait to win this hunt and get Eric back, Paula being a normal ass human makes her feel extra weak to play as comparatively.

You reached out for Allie's rifle, quickly enough that she had not a second to react to your snatch. She would have responded had your finger not already been firing on the triggers. The action had occurred so quickly that your perception of the situation seemed to slow to make seconds into minutes. Perhaps it was pure adrenaline in your body once again processing the information in your brain much faster, yet it made aiming to that thing seem a little easier.

The gnashing, buzzing whirlwind of claws and blades flew with a speed akin to speeding car as it descended towards Dante and Kurtis. Even with sight of the oncoming attack, their evasion from it seemed almost delayed compared to the sheer speed of the alien. Its impact upon hitting the platform cracked the very concrete beneath its feet, while its bladed arms sliced the air where the pair had been seconds prior. You quickly drew a bead on the monster, yet it only seemed to use the momentum of its impact to bound out of the small crater it formed, and right against the wall of the station.

Dante and Kurtis were still running away as the alien readied another strike for the closest one. It turned its head to Dante, who barely had time to even aim before the alien let out another shriek against him. Its legs tensed with potential energy, before it lunged straight to Dante's body.

<BARE SUCCESS> +1 INT, -1 AGR

The alien's body pressed hard against the wall of the subway, its legs almost bulging through its exoskeletal frame as it readied its lunge. Dante raised his weapon to the alien, right as it jumped from the wall with its arm blades ready to dice him to bits. Your shot had come before all of this, flashing against the destroyed railing on the upper platform as the alien's body lifted itself from the ground.

One landed where its body once was on the platform, sending pieces of concrete to the air in the explosion. The second, landed squarely on the wall where the alien's body pressed to attack Dante, once more sending concrete in the aftermath. The last however, rang right into the alien's back with a creaking squelch yet it was not split in half or severely crippled like you thought.

The alien's back opened to reveal its buzzing wings once more, as it maneuvered their spread to cover its back. No doubt this thing couldn't dodge something mid flight, yet you hadn't expected it to sacrifice a limb to survive like this. The alien's wings and appendage seemed to contract and then explode to pieces, with the force of the explosion managing to knock the alien out of its flight trajectory.

Dante had managed to dodge the inbound attack, but not before taking a slice to his back that knocked out his suit's spine enhancement and heading to the platform overhang. Kurtis was on top of the alien the moment it skidded across the platform, firing off a net as it tried to regain its footing. Not missing a moment, you let out another few shots from Allie's rifle where you thought alien would land. A screeching sound of a nails, or rather blades, on the concrete caused the alien to halt its movements before it swatted away Kurtis's incoming net.

Your own shots exploded behind it, before it let out another hiss of frustration and adopted its lowered stance again. Its head faced Dante's location, which now rang out with several flashes of rifle and pistol fire. Dante's shouting, along with Luis and Tanjeet's, signaled their full assault as the humanoid roach began running on all fours after them. Kurtis shot out another net, causing the alien to twist its body to now aim right at him while swatting the net away. Before you could fire off another shot, Allie picked up both of the pistols and jumped to the bottom platform.

"HEY!" Allie shouted, as she began to fire a volley of shots from the pistols at the alien, "DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE!"

With fire coming in from all sides, the humanoid roach once again found itself on the defensive. Just like the chamber however, its speed was now focused entirely on evading your teams shots. Its body twisted and contorted in evasive maneuvers that more or less kept it pinned but still agile enough to attempt a strike against your team. You didn't allow this, as you shot off more fire against it keeping it away from any point of motion forward.

The alien's powerful legs keep its evasive maneuvers active in spite of the sheer amount of firepower raining down against it. For your teammates, Kurtis's training back at the warehouse had kept the alien pinned down under a hail of suppression fire. Alternative shots between your team was making sure that the humanoid roach wouldn't even get get past the central rail as it attempted again and again to maneuver around your team. You could have attempted to fire down further, yet you knew that you had to make sure the others were still safe.

The alien's hissing and shrieks of frustration kept going as you holstered the rifle to your side. You took a knee and dragged yourself to where the twins were laying. They hadn't moved since you saw them there initially and you thankfully still saw intakes of breath from their chests. Their weapons were scattered to other sections of the platform, as they laid there empty handed. It wasn't until you approached when you noticed something truly troubling however.

From their foreheads, what appeared like a scar or scab seemed to emerge from within their skin. Small trickles of blood had run around the scabbed area, the surface of which was a crusty brown and black. Their eyes were half opened, looking like they were in a daze or trance as their mouths drew in shallow intakes of breath. As you moved to inspect them closer, your knee squished something with a revolting crunch. You stared to look down to find a section of what looked like the roaches's tendril, and next to it was the other one.

"P-Paula..." a hoarse voice called out, and you stared to its source, Silvia, "I-I can't...m-move...it...hurts s-so much...m-m-my...head..."

"Don't talk anymore" you replied, attempting to lift up Silvia, "I'll take you somewhere safer while the others finish that thing off. You just have to hang on a bit longer, I promise we'll make it out."

"W-we're...sorry..." Claire's equally strained voice added, her eyes unable as her lips did so, "w-we...should h-have g-gone with D-Dante's pla-an...a-at the s-s-start..."

You weren't someone gave people pity, yet you couldn't help but look at both of these girls with equal degrees of sympathy. Perhaps not for themselves but more for their own actions; as stupid and impulsive it could have been. They reaped what they sowed, yet it wasn't something you would have wished on anyone whatever that alien did. You reached with your arms to pick them both up over your shoulder and thanked god that suit was still active as you crawled over the far end of the platform.

"Hey, you alien shit-head!" Chris's voice rang out past the platform and the flashing shots, "Suck on this!"

A sound, akin to several colliding vehicles, rocked the subway as the alien's shrieking intensified. Pulverized rock and concrete cracked behind you, as you dragged the twins away to safety. You didn't have to look to realize what had just happened just beyond the safety rail.

The alien's squeals of pain were barely audible, as Chris let out a small whistle on the bottom of the platform. You could swear you heard a laugh right after, as another crashing impact slammed into the subway platform. There was a small reprieve of silence after that, along with the sound of dust settling to the ground before Chris let out a shout of victory. You probably would have let out one yourself if you had been with him, but you had to settle with a sigh of relief as you placed the twins up against the wall.

They had groaned and moaned all the way to the wall, yet they hadn't fussed or moved at all since you placed them there. There were shouts of exultation from below the overhang of the platform, no doubt at seeing the end of the current hunt. Yet, the last hunt had more than sunk into your head that nothing was ever easy with Gantz's hunts even at the end. Taking a seat next to the twins, you opened up your radar and searched around for any further signatures.

The radar's screen opened to reveal your teammates below the overhang, either moving towards the center of the platform or heading to the escalators. It also revealed you and the twins, thankfully without any additional signatures on them from the wounds. You well remembered a similar experience during a prior hunt, when an alien managed to implant a fungal parasite into your stomach and knew that there was only one way to make sure. Lifting up the scope of the rifle, you aimed it straight at the twins.

"Don't worry girls, just making sure of something" you said, to ease their nerves while you aimed at them with the weapon and almost recoiled at what you saw.

Inside of their skulls, cracking straight through the bone, was a foreign, gelatinous substance seeping into their cranial area. Their brains, or at least the outer sections, seemed to be soaking in some kind of fluid that was sealed shut by the blackened scar tissue on their foreheads. You stifled a gasp, before putting down the rifle's scanner and looking towards the incoming steps from the escalators.

"Paula, we did it!" Chris shouted, as he carried Tanjeet over his shoulder, "took two shots from the big gun, and it's still twitching but that bug is dead. Want us to help you get them to the surface?"

"Yes, but there's something you should know about" you speak up, and look to Tanjeet's lost limb, "there's something in their heads. That alien, it did something to them and they're-"

"YUKINO RUN!"

The distinct sound of modern pistol fire illuminated the other end of the subway entrance, as you saw a hobbling Yukino running towards the platform. At the very end of the hall, you saw Rick aiming and shooting at something beyond the upper escalators before throwing his pistol towards it and trying to make a run for the platform as well. It then you realized how your focused had been so transfixed on the twins, that you hand omitted to see the full span of the radar's screen.

Your still open radar hails the coming of 4 figures just out of the subway's entrance, though this is only a glance as you're almost immediately on your remaining foot. The trailing stump of your other foot trails behind you, as you attempt to make it to your running teammates. It feels like razors are scraping at the still weak flesh beneath your destroyed foot, but you press on.

The sounds of metal scraping and uneven footsteps arise from the tunnel's surface, attempting to mask the steps for your allies. All the while, your teammates behind you are either shouting at you to come back or shining the weapon's neon lights straight at the end of the hall. Not that this mattered to you, as you kept moving through the pain as Yukino and Rick got all the more closer.

<SUCCESS>

The flaring pain in your stump only seems to intensify with every step and drag you go forward with. Dust and hard concrete pelt the fragile, breaking skin on it as you continue to move forward as fast as you possibly can. Yukino is struggling almost as much as you, as her body seems to be struggling to even keep a steady pace. Rick's movements are much faster as he keeps his running gait through the hall, yet the sounds of whatever is coming from above begin to shake part of the escalator's base.

In spite of this, you manage to reach Yukino, placing a hand over her exhausted body and making a quick turn to head back to the others while carrying her. She lets out a groan of pain but you move forward, while ignoring the searing pain on your back leg. Yet as you take a few more steps forward, the ground beneath your stump gives away as a hot, slimy rope or tentacle wraps around it.

You drop to the ground with a thud, as Yukino lets out another shout of pain as she's shaken in your grasp. The hall's exit to the subway starts moving away, as whatever's got a hold of you starts pulling you away. Turning on your back, you take a look at what's pulling you to find there's nothing there or even on your leg as you continue to be dragged back.

"SHOOT DAMNIT!" Kurtis's voice sounds from the subway's exit.

"It's too damn narrow, we'll hit them!" Allie shouts back, as you continue being dragged.

"Then take her!" you shout, as you let Yukino go from your arms with a push from the Gantz suit.

The muscles on your arms bulge out as you toss Yukino from your arms towards the other side of the hall. Yukino's scream only comes as she shouts for you, while Dante manages to catch her on the other side. You don't ponder on it too much as you're quickly trying to dislodge the appendage wrapped around your leg. The slimy, sticky thing only seems to get tighter the more you pull on at it, only lifting slightly as you put the suit's strength to it.

As you attempt to pry it again, the appendage starts shaking as you soon hear Rick struggling with something. Rick's body, his arms and even legs, are locked hard on an invisible opponent, one that is struggling to keep a hold on you. The sound of frustrated grunts and growling emits both from Rick and the being he's jumped on.

"PAULA RUN!" he sounds, as he attempts to punch and kick against this invisible opponent.

One of those kicks manages to strike true, as the creature lets out a squeal of pain and then anger as the slimy coat of the appendage loosens from your leg. You almost turn to run again, until you finally see the things beyond the escalators. Three large, scaled humanoids, one especially larger than the others land at the base of the escalator and begin making their way to the hall. You fully expected the others to shoot now, but Rick's now heavier struggle with the creature has only become more erratic.

The sheer audacity of Rick to attempt something like this betrayed the simpering, cowering man you saw above ground. Whether it had been his own selfless attempt aid you or a means of making up for earlier today, it would have been of no matter to you. Standing back up on your good leg, you drew Erick's sword and looked to the spectacle ahead.

Rick's body was being slammed into the wall, into the floor and generally shaken about like a wild bronco. Yet in spite of it, he seemed determined to hang on to give you a means of escape. You could only image how distraught he must have been should he have seen you running right back to him. As you moved with a hurried drag to him and readied yourself to activate the sword's extending feature, you focused your aim and hope Rick wasn't hit as well.

This is the only quest I know of with consistently cursed dice.
We only really get 20s during downtime, and the 1s flow like water during a hunt.
My only consolation is knowing that in an alternate universe, Bolivar ran a Gantz quest from the alien's perspectives, where the players consistently failed their downtime rolls and critted the fuck out of in-hunt rolls, but the humans always clutched it despite all odds.
Many of the alternate anons were probably very upset about that.

<CRITICAL FAILURE> -1 AGR, -1 WIL

The invisible monster was not a meter away from you, when the sword's blade extended forward. It had been a calculated attack, aimed as far away from Rick yet as dead center as you could for the alien's mass. It would have hit it squarely, had a clang of metal not intercepted it prior. You saw a spark of white, as it looked like another blade had intercepted your own before it was deflected above.

The blade's balance was off and you almost tumbled in holding it, only barely keeping it stable through the suit's strength. The tip went almost to the ceiling, barely missing Rick's side as you attempted maneuver it back. Then, Rick's struggling came to a stop as the alien quickly whipped him around over its shoulder and sent him straight to you. You almost dropped the sword as he slammed right into you, tumbling backwards with him.

You quickly got him off of you before retracting the blade back to the hilt. He hurriedly got up from this, giving you a hand to help you before you both started running for the upper platform. He slung on of your arms over his shoulder, carrying part of your weight as you both reached the very end of the hall. As soon as you did, your team began their fusillade down the hall with everything they had.

"Paula...you are the most reckless..." Rick started, catching his breath, "and brave officer I have ever seen, thank you."

"Don't celebrate just yet," you reply,, making your way to a wall on the platform, "we need to get out of here first before we-"

It amazed you how you didn't notice it during the tussle with the alien, as maybe your mind had been too preoccupied with escaping that hallway. Yet, clear as its shining, blinking, red light, you spotted a black, metallic device sticking to the back of Rick's pant leg. The object was no bigger than a tater tot, yet you'd been to enough demolitions training to know exactly what this was.

"EVERYBODY CLEAR OU-"

Your words hung to your throat as the small sphere blinked once more and a massive surge of electricity erupted from its tiny frame. It lit up Rick with coiling tendrils of blue and white flashes akin to lightning, engulfing his body and then spreading out from it like a live wire to everyone at the end of the hall. Their bodies convulsed in spasms, as you could see the lights on their suits begin to blink erratically as the current flowed through them. The moment it reached you, it reignited the agonizing pain in your chest and leg as it spread out through you like a venomous snake.

The painfully paralyzing experience didn't hinder you from seeing Rick's body seem to contort in a horrific and erratic manner, before his screams seem to close up along with the electricity as it left his now charred corpse. You dropped to the ground in a painful thud, as the suit's fluid left its buttons, and you could hear the heavy footsteps of those aliens approaching from the hall.

<EPISODE END>

Actually ended a little earlier than anticipated, but I am quite grateful that you all stuck around for it.

Update schedule hasn't changed, as I will be updating frequently on the weekends and in single increments during the week days. If I am falling behind on an update, be sure to send me a tell on the discord server for /qst/ or let me know in the thread if I didn't let you guys know I'm already writing.

I will not be updating this coming weekend as I will be at an anime convention in National Harbor, so expect a new thread on 02/21 at 6:00 PM EST.

Thank you everyone for sticking around for a great thread as I am glad to be writing again.

Have a good evening /qst/.

so, are we dead or....?

that seemed extra bad
>>
>>4078221
Is this the hunt where we lose half the squad and also don't kill all the enemies
>>
>>4078232
I think we did get all the enmies, but as the other time around, the lizards came to fuck everything at the end of the hunt
>>
>>4078230

OOC: Unless you see the <CHOOSE NEW PLAYER> option pop up, don't count yourself dead yet.

Remember that you're only dead when you're actual bodily paste in Gantz, since people managed to fight even with popped eyeballs, lost limbs, disembowelment, etc.
>>
>>4078234
You know, that actually poses an interesting question.
If all the enemies have been beaten, but Gantz hasn't beamed you back yet, and you get killed by interlopers...would Gantz remove the corpse and revive you, since you did technically complete the win condition before the incident? Gantz might not even care that you were a corpse - the way it teleports people basically kills them and recreates them anyways, as far as I'm aware. That's pretty much why everyone is always in pristine condition when they come back to the safehouse. Gantz only needs the data of your consciousness in order to do anything from teleport to revive you.
>>
>>4078305
That question was answered when Gantz didn't revive Carol last hunt. She was killed by interlopers before she was beamed and stayed dead.

>>4078221
Thanks for runming, see you there.
>>
>>4078322
Ahh, fuck. That's right.
Fuck you, Gantz. That big ball of fuck needs pissed on. Fucker should let everyone who made it to the end of the actual hunting portion go home.

Rolled 11 (1d20)

>>4078211
Rolling for how lucky the rolls next episode will be
>>
Assuming these are the same lizards as the museum, then we can probably guess the crocodile fucker that ate Carol is probably here as well.

Did we ever get any identification on the other 2?

Also, anyone else think this invisible fucker is probably sick of seeing us?
