OP Never Dies Edition

You are Perseus Meigma. A new student at Pagus University. Along with 10 other students, you were accepted into the Ultimate Honors Program. But none of you got what you bargained for, the headmaster, and the whole WORLD has gone missing, and in Headmaster Merlin’s place is a strange stuffed bear named Monokuma... The bear wants you to play a game, the rules are simple.
>The goal is to murder a classmate.
>The class will hold a trial to attempt to convict the blackened killer.
>If the blackened can get away with it, they can escape, and all other students are exterminated.
>But if the blackened is caught, they are executed, and the game continues until there is one graduate left.

Will you and your classmates survive the hellish game? Or fold under the pressure?

———

>MONOKUMA THEATRE:
“Magic is so strange. But the humans who use it are even stranger! It’s a wonder there hasn’t been mass violence already with so many strong freaks running amok! It may be cruel, but the weak die and the strong survive! Sure, the discovery of magic was a sudden evolutional buff, but you gotta use what you have to get what you want in life! That’s what the killing game is about, too! So let’s hope you all give it your veeeery best!”

Made a promise that I wouldn’t die and while I’ve been shaky, I guess I’m keeping it. Finals are over, I’m back up in college, there’s nothing to steal away my time anymore. Let’s get this shit popping.

6:00 PM, inside the 3rd floor gym of the Student Life Center... You’ve arrived to help Iona set up for her “get-together” tonight. The elevator opens, and you see she’s already made a little progress... Fake palm trees litter the floor.

“A tropical theme...?” You ask, a bit confused.

“It’s still only mid-August... So I think we can do with a little relaxing tropical getaway. Just to get everyone to forget this stupid killing game...” She answers, with a hint of a frown. Her smile returns, addressing your arrival. “Thanks for showing up! Though, I didn’t ever doubt you... I kinda need someone to do heavy lifting for these stands.”

“What’ve you got done so far?”

“I spent my first fifty Monocoins on the drinks for everyone, that bear keeps the amenities cheap I guess... Some wine, other liquor, lemonade, water, coffees, buncha ice too! Then I got set to decorating, and now you’re here.” She says, sounding very proud of herself.

“Then I’ll help you finish up, I got a few others. Greta and I will handle drinks and bartending, Randy’s gonna DJ, and Brenna elected to watch the door.”

Iona sighs. “She’s much too paranoid... Makes sense, this whole thing was my idea... She’s probably gonna spend all her time in the observation room...”

You squint slightly. “Observation room?”

“It’s behind the lobby desk. There’s camera equipment, controls, all sorts of security system stuff... Plus, she isn’t much for socializing like this, or a drinker. Though, I guess neither am I... But I wanna try.” Iona muses.

“No matter what happens with her, I’m going to make sure this goes off without a hitch...” You promise.

“Thank you so much, Perseus...” She says, returning to the decorations while you get started lifting the stands for the makeshift bar.

45 minutes pass, on top of festive decorations, you’ve set up the necessary stands for the other volunteers to do their thing. You and Iona stand, proud of the finished product.

“Now to just wait for everyone else... I’m gonna stay here.” She says.

What should you do?

>Go greet the volunteers at the door, wouldn’t want them to miss any memos.

>Stick around and talk with Iona, perhaps there’s more to her feelings on this party.

I’m working on making a twitter to announce updates/running times. The goal of this thread will be to get us all the way through the first investigation, with the next thread being the first trial.
Having all that extra time let me think up great ways to pan out the first case. I was going to quit after 2 weeks had passed since I thought I’d taken too long, but I decided to stick with it because the ideas were just flowing constantly.

TLDR: I had HOPE that things would be okay. And then they were.

You decide it’s probably best to leave her alone, and wait for your volunteers.

———

The first to show is Brenna, about ten minutes early. “Perseus.” She greets. “I take it you and Iona have been working hard...”

You nod. “It wasn’t too much work, we found a lot of decorations in storage.”

“Glad to hear... There’s been countless events in that gym for years, but to think we’d have one so soon, under this killing game... It’s a comfort, but it also makes me wonder how long we can last.”

“We can last, Brenna. Nobody’s gonna die, and Monokuma can’t break us.”

“Hmph...” She gives a skeptical look. “I’m clearing the building of danger just in case... Besides, I’m not much for parties anyway.”

>”Maybe once you’re done patting everyone down, you’ll spend some time with Iona?”

“I guess we can’t be too careful... But let’s try not to interfere with the party mood, it’s supposed to be a reprieve from the killing game...” You say.

Brenna sighs. “I’ll try to stay out of everyone’s way.” She says, walking past you into the building.

As you turn back around, it appears your other two volunteers are here. Randy and Greta walk together.

“Hello Professor!” Greta exclaims, using the nickname she’d promised to use.

“Whoa, hold up, Professor?” Randy snickers.

“It’s nothing... I’m glad you two could make it.” You say, with a slight hint of embarrassment.

“Yeah, I got what we needed.” Randy triumphantly holds up a laptop bag. “I brought my whole music library, and a couple movies for the theatre in case anyone would rather catch a film than dance.”

“Ooh, good thinking! What will be showing?” Greta asks.

“Oh, it’s amazing, it’s about this schizophrenic who goes on a killing spree whenever he gets phone calls. And he wears animal masks to do all his hits. It’s rad!”

Greta looks genuinely interested in that premise. But...

You nod. Sounded like a really hype movie for sure... “I guess we can load it up in the theatre... Pretty much all of the staff doors are unlocked.”

“Seriously? Awesome!” Randy exclaims.

“I hope the blood effects are good...” Greta says with a dopey sort of grin.

“It’s a movie from the 80s, I wouldn’t bet on it.” Randy affirms.

“Aww...” The blonde pouts.

“Anyways, Iona and I set an area aside for your music. Why don’t you go set up?”

“You got it, Chief.” Randy gives a joking salute, walking off.

“So, Professor! You gonna show me a thing or two about mixing drinks?” Greta asks you.

“I couldn’t call myself an alchemist if I didn’t. Though... Our options are a bit limited, Iona spent all 50 of her monocoins on some, but we’re missing ingredients and ice-“

“Covered!” Greta shouts, stepping aside. Is that an ice chest? “Got us a lot of ice, and a lot more mixing ingredients. We can make everything from chocolate milk to Shirley Temples!”

“Wow... How did you get all this?”

“Bought the ice with my cut this morning. The other stuff? I brought it over from home! Dad’s a connoisseur, taught me everything I know! But I don’t exactly share his tastes...”

“Alright, let’s get it up the elevator then.”

“Let’s do this, Professor!”

———

Thirty minutes pass. It’s now 7:20... The party is officially starting in around ten minutes... Everything’s set up.

“So... Who’s coming?” You ask Iona.

“I gave invitations to everyone... And most agreed they be here. Except for... Cantara. She said she’d just be a bother, and really didn’t want to be around if Sigurd was coming.”

That’s kinda strange... Though, she has been a bit standoffish since her introduction.

“Plus...” Iona continues. “That Bear asked if he could show... I refused him. He didn’t seem to mind, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he decided to be here anyway.”

You roll your eyes. Monokuma and his games... “Whatever. This is going to be our night, not his.”

“Right! Let’s keep hoping things go great!”

7:30 PM... The night of Iona’s party has begun.

You sit behind the counter of the makeshift bar setup. Greta’s on the other side, grinning gleefully as usual.

A couple students begin to pour in, GG and Cindy. The gamer walks straight up to you. “Yo Percy... Didn’t expect an actually organized deal. Got any soda?” He asks.

You nod. “Some coke okay? That’s all Greta brought...”

“Good enough...” You pour him a cup of Coca Cola, handing it to him, he takes a sip. “I’ll be in the basement if you need me.” He says, to your surprise.

“Huh? But the party’s up here, and in the theatre!”

“But the game cabinets are in the basement, so that’s where I’m gonna Chill... Just come grab me once the party’s over... Unless you wanna get a match in when you’re done playing bartender?”

GG lets out a laugh, a lot more open than usual, he seems to like your company. “Then it’s a bet. I’ll see you there!”

(You’ve agreed to hang out with GG during the party. You can agree to hang out with 2 more students who offer.)

“Alright, enjoy the drink!” You wave, as GG walks to the stairwell. You turn to Greta, who’s just finished serving Cindy her own drink. “What’d she order?”

“Two shots of espresso... Makes sense for a speedy gal like that.” Greta giggles. “I’ve been writing down all the orders, that way if we get overloaded we can’t mess up as easily...”

“I doubt that’ll happen... But staying organized is good.”

“Father told me that good organization was the key to success in school. So... I’m hoping to ace, Professor!”

That nickname is getting kinda creepy...

“I just hope I can take a little time off to catch that movie Randy brought...”

Since I was thinking about it over the weekend and had nothing better to do, I present a gift: The sprites for the (surprisingly small) cast of Magical Murder Mayhem!

“I’m definitely interested as well... How about we both go?” You ask.

“Really? Oh man, that would be amazing! I doubt anybody has film taste like we do...” She looks away for just a moment, before grinning again. “Okay! Just lemme know when you’re ready...”

Before you can even affirm, many more of your classmates have lined up...

———

(You’ve agreed to hang out with Greta after your shift. 2/2)

———

In just a half hour of the party’s inception, you and Greta have served out plenty of drinks. Iona finally walks up to you, with a pleased smile on her face.

“I’m so glad this is actually happening...” She says.

“Pat yourself on the back, it’s a good way to keep everyone together...”

“You think so...? It’s like, we’ve barely gotten to know eachother... So it’s really good that we can.” Iona gives you a knowing look. “You’ve been pretty social, even after getting your hand cut up by those bears...”

“Barely a scratch... Pun not intended.” You chuckle.

“A lot of work to get it done, though... And I’m still kinda working up the courage to talk to everybody...”

“Would something to drink help you out?” You ask, already knowing the answer.

Iona nods. “Lemonade, just one cube of ice, please. I don’t like it too chilled...”

“Oh! I got this one! Coming right up!” Greta says. Quickly preparing and sliding a cup of lemonade over to the girl in white.

“Thanks... Cantara really was being truthful about not showing up, and I haven’t seen Sigurd either-“

“I’ll have what she’s got... No ice, though.” A voice suddenly rings out to your right. It’s Sigurd.

“No ice...?” Greta inquires. “But... It’ll be warm and gross.”

“You’re talking to an ice mage here. Besides, I’m not one for alcohol...”

Iona giggles. “Brenna mentioned one of the school’s legends to me, you got drunk your sophomore year and ran laps around the school naked in the dead of winter-“

Sigurd slams his fist onto the table, startling poor Iona. “That was... A long time ago, she’s a sophomore herself this year, how could she know?”

“Can’t exactly bury everything.” You say.

“Yeah well... That’s true... I can’t hold my liquor, you got me.” He smiles a little. “Anyways, congrats on the party...”

Just then, the music from Randy’s laptop cut out for a split moment, replaced by a horrid cacophony of screeching and static. You all turn to look at Randy, who’s scrambling on the controls.

“What in God’s name!?” Sigurd yells, as Iona and the rest of the students plug their ears. Greta just laughs at the situation, and you stare quizzically.

The music suddenly returns to a normal tune...

<BGM>

“It’s okay!” Randy yells. “Just a corrupted file for a bit... Bad disc burn. Won’t happen again! By the way, if you’ve got any physicals, I’m taking requests!”

“Well that was something... As I was saying... Congrats on the party. But me and Brenna both agree that things are only going to get worse if we don’t stay on guard. Does anyone know where she might be?”

You think. “She was patting everyone down... And you’re the last one here. So she’s probably in the observation room right now.”

“Perfect, I’m going to join her for the most part...”

“You know where it is?” You ask.

“I’m a senior, and a favorite. I know where EVERYTHING is.” He says with a cocky smile, taking his lemonade cup and walking off.

“Okay... Gonna meet some faces...” Iona says with a focused tone.

“Go get ‘em, I know you can.”

“Yeah, I think you’re pretty cool already!” Greta says happily.

“Thanks... I’ll see you around, Percy...”

With that, Iona takes her own cup of lemonade and leaves.

Looks like that’s everyone... You can either close up and catch that movie with Greta, or leave her to do any refills and go catch that game with GG...

You decide you need to sit and see a good flick first, and want to spend a little more time with Greta.

“Hey, head down to the theatre. I’ll go get the DVD from Randy and meet you there.” You say.

“Sounds like a plan! I was born ready...” She practically hops over the counter, such energy...

———

You clean up the bar and go to the DJ Booth. Along the way, you spot Iona off in the corner, clearly staring towards Eric, who’s just tapping his foot to some music and chatting with Jacuzzi.

You give her a nod and a knowing wink, and her face visibly brightens with red, she moves to hide it with her hands as you keep walking.

“Hey, me and Greta were hoping to see that movie you brought, you got it?”

Randy doesn’t take his headphones off. “What?!” He says, kinda loud.

“Me and Greta wanted to see that movie! Can I have the DVD!?”

“Oh, sorry dude! You’re a bit late there!”

You give a confused look. “Well who took it!?”

“Him!” Randy points towards the stairwell hall door.

You can faintly see the figure of Monokuma, clutching a DVD case, rounding the corner out of the gym.

“Son of a... Okay, thanks Randy!” You say with frustration.

“What!?”

You pay him no mind.

“Sheesh, you sound like you’re accusing me of murder... I just wanted to see a movie! The killing is your job anyway!” Monokuma mocks.

“Humph...” You roll your eyes. “Well, we were gonna put on the movie anyway, so... Good timing I guess.”

“Sweet! Oh man. This movie looks great! But it can’t compare to something I’d direct...”

You really don’t want to see any films by Monokuma.

———

“Where did he get that...?” Greta asks as the opening credits roll.

Monokuma munches on popcorn two rows ahead.

“You don’t wanna know, if my hunch is right...” You shudder to think of it.

———

A stunning synth soundtrack accompanies a man whose face is always out of frame, driving a stylish Delorean when he eventually pulls up to some abandoned building... The man puts on a mask, that of a comical rooster mascot, before the screen cuts to black.

The phone rings in a dingy apartment, the man from the opening picks it up.

The man slams the phone back into the receiver.

———

Just a few short minutes later, a Russian mafia drug bust is being slaughtered by the man, now wearing that mask.

“This is the best kinda movie, you don’t really gotta be quiet or smart to enjoy it...” Greta says. “It’s just an hour and a half of pure chaos, and top of the line blood effects!”

You figure it’s not enough of an interesting story to stay silent. What Greta says piques your interest. “Blood... Hey, Greta. I know it’s your magic and all, but... What sparked your interest in blood?”

Greta is Silent for a moment. “Strong blood magic runs in our family’s, well, blood! My dad’s way more powerful than I am... Anyways.” She looks away from the movie, to you, her smile isn’t as energetic... “Being exposed to it so often, of course it’s interesting to me...”

Exposed to it... often?

“What do you mean?”

“My dad’s a surgeon of sorts... And since I was homeschooled by him all the time, we picked up the same fascination I guess...” She blinks. “Why do you care so much?”

There’s something in her eyes that’s telling you there’s more to this, and she definitely doesn’t want to speak on it...

“Your magic, how does it work?”

“Well that’s simple! On contact with exposed blood, I can do all manner of things... Harden it, shape it, expand it. The only thing I can’t do is absorb it into my own blood...” She nods. “Blood magic users usually end up being fighters, exploiting blood as a weapon, but I think there’s a more medical use for it... It’s much more interesting to me... It might help save some lives here, even!”

“That’s good... I’m glad you’ve got a sound goal.”

“Aww, Thanks Professor!”

A particularly realistic sounding blood spatter from the movie brings your focus back to it...

———

“Ah, so you're the one causing the ruckus? What's your business here *COUGH* Actually... Why don't we skip the details? I've done so many horrible things... Nothing seems to really matter anymore, does it? I'm not going anywhere, as you can see... Just go ahead and do what ever you came here to do.”

At that moment, the man fires directly into the head of an old crime boss, walking onto the balcony as the police (finally) show up, and lighting a cigarette.

———

“He was the GOOD GUY the whole time!? Bleh!” Monokuma tosses his popcorn basket at the screen. “What a copout... I was expecting a fall from grace story, not a hopeful redemption arc...”

“I thought it was pretty good... Glad I got to chill with you after all that work, prof!” Greta exclaims.

You nod. Feeling closer with her than ever.

“See you around, I’m gonna go back up to the gym!” She says, walking off.

You turn to Monokuma. “What about you?” You ask.

“I’m going home! Can’t you see I’m a very busy bear!?”

“But you just watched a whole movie, if you really were that busy...”

“Like I said... Mental health is important. A mind in despair is more alert than a hopeful one!” He says, before disappearing out of the theatre’s exit.

Looks like all that’s left is to go see GG...

It’s the first time you’ve been in the basement area at all... There’s barely any actual lighting, that’s taken care of by the rows upon rows of arcade machines and their gaudy displays.

It actually takes you a moment to even find Gabe. Tucked in the corner with all the racing games. Whatever he’s playing, the text is all in Japanese. Something something D Infinity? Whatever. It’s a racing game. Not difficult to understand.

You tap him on the shoulder just as he appears to finish a game against the CPU, who’s not too far behind GG due to rubber-banding. He turns to you with a smirk. “Finally... You know how hard it is being one of the only two people who actually know their way around a video game?”

“I take it nobody’s been down here but you?”

“Eric gave me a couple of matches in Third Strike, but just because he picks Dudley doesn’t mean his boxing skills will suddenly translate into footsies.” He gestures to the large driving cabinets. “You know how to drive, right?”

That sounds like it’s going to be way harder than it sounds.

You decide to pick the first car that shows up on screen, deciding it looks nice enough. You select a silver finish, and finally select the AT control style. You have no clue what a stick shift is...

Now all that’s left is to race GG and see if you can pull another victory. You both select VERSUS RACE, and GG thankfully doesn’t pick a course that looks too difficult. The first one.

“Remember, just make efficient turns.” He tells you, like that’s supposed to help...

The race finally loads, the camera is a first person view, or something like it... Before you can fully process, the countdown is already beginning.

GO!

<BGM>
https://youtu.be/TlH0Wefca4E

GG’s red Toyota Celica zooms off, but you aren’t moving... Your foot’s on the pedal, so why not?

After a few tries, you realize you’re mashing on the BRAKE, not the gas. Correcting your error, you attempt to make some ground.

The course map only shows three sharp corners, two left and one right. You briefly remember GG’s encouragement at the first corner, just slam the brake and tap the gas pedal until you’re drifting...

You do the technique maybe a few too many times, the front of your car hits the inside of the corner’s apex. There’s no damage in this game, but it takes a few precious seconds to get back to driving correctly. Could’ve been so much smoother. The right corner doesn’t go too much better. You don’t come to a complete stop hitting the outside guardrail, but it’s infinitely less efficient. Every second counts... You finally catch some speed and cautiously drift the final corner of the lap, but at this point, GG is miles away. Going through the entire course again with a little more refined technique, you can’t see his car until you’re on the home stretch, and at that point, he’s already won...

———

Your focus is broken by GG snorting with laughter. “The brake pedal? Seriously? You said you’d never drove before, but I figured you’d at least know the very basics!”

You sigh, a little embarrassed.

GG quits laughing after a little while. “Hey man, just a game.” He states. “Plus, I’ve had a lot of practice for the past hour and a half, so... Just remind me not to get in an automobile with you.”

“Yeah, yeah...” You mutter. “You gonna socialize sometime?” You joke.

“Nah... I don’t really find that kind of thing enjoyable.”

“Why not?” You ask. “Surely you at least like some people...”

“Yeah, no. I’m a competitor. Skill is everything to me... Life is like a fight, a competition.” He smirks. “Immature strategy is the cause of grief. Keep that in mind, okay? Let that thought serve us all well in abstaining from this game.”

You nod. “I will... But I’d like us all to be friends in the process.”

“The longer I ignore the attachments of this killing game, the more I’m winning mentally.”

What an introvert... But you don’t suppose he’s all bad. “Hey Gabe, I consider you a friend already, what do you say to that?”

“I’d say you’ve made a huge mistake. This is a rivalry, not a friendship.”

You nod your head again. “Whatever you say...”

“Hey, if you’re tired of getting your butt kicked at anything that isn’t Guilty Gear, there’s an alchemy lab on the 4th floor I’m sure you’d like.”

“I’ll check it out pretty soon I guess, maybe after checking back on the party.”

“Okay man, seeya back at the dorms.” He waves, selecting a time trial.

That was an odd talk. Gabriel seems troubled, but that isn’t any of your business right now...

Finally making it back to the gym, the party still seems quite lively. Greta’s reopened the bar, waving to you. You wave back, scanning the rest of the floor. You notice something surprising.

Brenna’s here, holding a wine glass off to the side. She still has that cautious look in her eyes. You decide to walk over and talk to her for a moment.

“Finally decided to loosen up?” You ask playfully.

She rolls her eyes. “Figured I’d do better with my eyes on everyone... Sigurd’s still in the observation room, and as rude as he can be, I trust him.”

“That’s good...” You say.

“I’m looking Iona, actually... Have you seen her?”

You look around the room quickly. You notice, on top of Sigurd and Cantara, Eric and Iona have disappeared. Perhaps she’s actually going through with confessing that crush you think she has? You’d hate for Brenna’s overprotective attitude to ruin that... But then again, you can’t be too careful with the game afoot.

“I’m not convinced... The observation room doesn’t have a camera feed for the gym, but I figured the immediate presence of the other students would keep people in line. If she’s not here, and not on the camera feed...”

You stop her from speaking. “She’s okay... I was just in the basement arcade, and there’s no reason for her to be in the theatre... Let’s just think this through.”

“Alright...” Brenna breathes. “Well, we should search for her anyway, just in case! Let’s try not to disturb the other students...”

“I don’t know...” Brenna raises an eyebrow. “She’s...”

“My friend? And I don’t think she’s the kind of person to miss something like that?” You interrupt.

———

“Greta.” Brenna coldly greets.

“Huh?” The silver-haired freshman looks up. “Oh, hey Brenna! Ready for some more red wine? Don’t drink too much or-“

“That’s not what we’re here for...” You give a gentle smile, contrasting the scowl adorning Brenna’s face. “We were wondering if you’ve seen Iona around recently.”

“Yeah, she left pretty recently! Right before professor came back walked through the door... She and Eric went into the elevator.”

“Who’s Professor...?” Brenna asks.

“That would be me.” You answer, with a hint of embarrassment.

“Yeah, yeah! Anyways, beats me what floor they went to... But Iona was basically dragging him by the arm... Maybe they’re alone having their own “special” kinda party!”

You can visibly see Brenna’s expression go from annoyed to angered.

“Hey now, we just need to ask her something... Thanks for the tip!” You assure, stepping in front of Brenna.

“No problem, Prof!”

———

“So all we know is they were the last ones to use the elevator...” You think.

You both stand before said elevator, Brenna takes a look up. “There.” She says.

“What?”

“The fourth floor... That’s where the elevator’s currently lodged. Let’s head up there from the stairs...!” She begins to quickly walk away.

You know she’s not in a very good state of mind for this, perhaps you should try and stop her?

She’s extremely fast as you practically chase her up the stairwell. Just as you both arrive to the door of one of the alchemy labs...

“Brenna, hold on- whoa!” Your feet fail you, sending you forwards. You instinctively reach out for the only thing that could possibly save your fall...

You look up... You’re okay... But where is Brenna?

You look down. To see the face of truly potent rage.

Brenna shoves you off of her with uncharacteristic strength, and before you can open your mouth to protest, she gives you a powerful slap that’s almost dizzying.

“What the hell is wrong with you-!?” She yells.

“Sorry... I... Tripped...”

>It’s probably going to take a little more work to get to know Brenna from this point on...

“Listen, you’ve just got to calm down and not jump to conclusions!” You say.

“Jumping to conclusions? Any one of us could die! This is no large leap-“

The both of you are interrupted by the voice behind the door.

“We’re both gonna be okay, you got it?” You can hear Eric say.

“I... I understand...” And that’s Iona.

Phew... Seems safe and sound. You can already see Brenna coming down from her anger.

“Let’s not let this experience screw things up between us... You’re stronger than that. I’m WAY stronger than that!” The boxing captain’s charismatic tone rings out. “We can still be friends!”

“You’re right... You’re right...” Iona sounds a bit more downtrodden than before.

Did you nearly walk in on a rejection? You’re not sure if it was quite worth getting slapped to stop Brenna from barging in... But it would’ve been very awkward otherwise.

“Thanks for this... I know you set up this party for me, but I can’t accept your proposal...” Eric says, a little more calm. “Hey, we can spend the rest of the event together if it’ll make you feel better, how bout it?”

“Huh? N-no... That’s okay, I’ll just stay here... It’s gonna be okay, like you said, promise!” She says.

“That’s the spirit!” Eric laughs, Iona lightly giggles.

Brenna gives a long sigh of relief, but still stares at you with daggers in her eyes.

“Hey, one more thing.” Eric asks Iona.

“What is it...?”

“You gonna finish that?”

“This?” You hear some shuffling. “No... It’s too chilled, not to my tastes...”

“Heh, just what the doctor ordered, it’s way too hot in that gym...” A few footsteps, Eric’s leaving the lab now it seems. “I’ll see you before it’s over though, right?”

“...Right.” Iona mutters.

“Good.” Eric says, pushing open the door. Immediately, he smiles seeing you and Brenna. “Sup Perc, sup Brenna. Checking out the building I presume?”

“Y-Yeah... I’ve had my eyes on this alchemy lab floor for awhile.” You say, covering up the fact you were eavesdropping.

“That’s your major, after all... Should have everything you need!” Eric takes a sip of the drink he’s holding, presumably Iona’s. “Man... You mix this one?” He asks.

“Nah, Greta did.”

“Hm, maybe I should order some for myself... It’s really good.” His eyes move to Brenna. “Hey, sorry for dipping like that, we just wanted to explore the rest of the building, and she wanted me along to help her out.” He says. “Don’t be too hard on Iona, okay?”

Another long sigh. “Okay...” Brenna agrees.

“I’ll see y’all around... Hey Perc, catch ya later and I’ll teach you a thing or two about fighting for real!” He gives a hearty salute before pressing the elevator button and stepping inside.

“See? Not so bad... I just feel bad for Iona now...” You say to Brenna, who’s looking down.

“Let’s go in... I should still talk to her.” She says.

“Fine.”

Back from classes.
Alright some quick updates before we get this show back on the road.

I’m in the process of getting my twitter deactivated. Apparently, back in middle school or so, my parents made me a twitter account using the personal email I still use to this day. Never touched this twitter even once. But, I’d much rather have a brand new one that my family ain’t following since my plan is to cut them off my junior year of college.

Personal story aside. What this means is I won’t have a twitter for QM updates for 30 days. For now, I do post updates on the QTG discord. So I guess you could look at that.

Next, the schedule. The way things are going with my studies the next few days, I’m thinking I’ll finish this thread up by tonight or tomorrow, then we’ll get a new thread started on Tuesday (February 4th) for the investigation/1st trial. Since I’m writing the whole 1st trial in advance, I’m hoping to have that whole Friday to just devote to the class trial posting.

Alright that’s out of the way so hopefully nothing bad happens to me in the meantime of these plans. Now lemme walk home and I’ll get back to the game.

You hold the door open, in slight apology for falling on top of Brenna, and then follow in after her.

Iona stands near the window looking lost in thought, before shifting her view towards the two of you. “Oh, hello, Percy, Sister...”

“Hello Iona...” You say.

A silence hangs over the room.

“I’m sure I must’ve worried you?” Iona asks.

You give Brenna an expectant look, she closes her eyes for a moment. “No.” She says. “You’re fine, don’t worry. Eric said you were just exploring, and that’s okay...”

You smile, and so does Iona, although hers is weaker. “Yeah... He’s really nice, and I’m glad he agreed to go with me...”

She still seems down about the encounter...

You decide you won’t ask her about what they talked about... You’re sure Brenna will anyway, and you’d rather leave the two sisters to talk amongst themselves...

Still. You find it odd. Eric and Iona both claim to have just been up here for fun, but Greta mentioned...

———

“Anyways... Beats me what floor they went to... But Iona was basically dragging him by the arm...”

———

What happened up here... It’s clearly not your business, but you’re intrigued.

“Well, I’ll see you two back down at the gym.” You say.

Iona smiles and nods. “We’ve gotta wrap up the event soon anyway... So... Be seeing you.”

As you exit, you can hear a faint ruckus on the stairwell, coming from... The gym? The further down you go, the louder it gets... Is Randy playing some hype tune?

As you descend to the hall, you see something strange. Jacuzzi’s off to the side, looking down and leaning against the wall, he looks... Sickened. You realize...

There’s no music playing at all.

You do hear frenzied shouting.

“H-he ain’t movin-!” Cindy yells.

“Shit- shit- shit!!!” You hear Randy mutter as you pick up your pace into the gym proper.

Everyone’s staring from afar, towards the elevator. You push past Cindy, GG- who your surprised even teleported up here to begin with- push past a more interested than distraught Greta, push past Sigurd, to see what everyone’s staring at.

What you see is unbelievable. You wish it had something to ground it.

<BGM>

Eric’s muscled body is slumped against the left wall of the elevator. His arms clutching his stomach. There’s a small amount of blood on his shirt, but it’s enough to make you almost feel as sick as Jac.

Perhaps the strongest student here, Eric Mercer, was now gone...

“Body... A body...?” You mutter.

So... He’s really dead, then.

No! That can’t be right! You just saw him upstairs, mere minutes ago!

The elevator door closes, as it’s supposed to do.

“What happened!?” You yell.

“How should any of us know, man!?” Randy retorts.

“Well whatever happens, we’d better find out!” Sigurd threatens. “It could’ve been anyone... So who!?”

“Now calm down, there!” The familiar voice of Monokuma rings out. Pushing his way through the crowd, he walks directly up to the elevator, jumping to hit the button and reopen the door. His unwilling audience of students watches as he takes pink tape labeled “CAUTION!” And uses it to tape the elevator door end-to-end, likely ensuring it doesn’t automatically close. “Now then, as I previously stated in the announcement... The class trial will soon begin! When that happens, you can air all your grievances about who the killer is. So until then, you better think loooooong and haaaaard about it! I’m sure you remember the rules? Nyaha!”

“He’s... Dead. Dead because of you!” You accuse. Monokuma doesn’t seem to care.

“Why, I had absolutely nothing to do with it! It may have been my game, but it was YOUR choice to actually play... But I’m glad you all finally decided to come to your senses and start with the killings! Now we can make things interesting, and really decide who the ultimate is!” The bear yawns. “But... Man, I’m sleepy. We can’t have a trial so late at night like this! So... Let’s say, tomorrow at noon! That’ll be trial time, when everyone’s fresh and ready!”

That sounds fair, but...! You’re not sure even that is enough time!

“Don’t you worry! I’ll help you all out. I’ve come BEARing gifts!” He says. Striking a bizarre pose, Monokuma holds out his paw. “Now summoning! Monopad Pro Model Ensemblé!”

(Continued...)
>>
>>4056499
Suddenly, eleven flashes of light appear before Monokuma. From each, small objects appear... And float into the hands of every student, including Iona and Brenna who have just arrived.

It’s... A tablet? Looks to be. You press on the screen, and it comes to life, a multitude of apps and features now available...

“Okay, listen up! Because I’m only going over this once! For those who’d like to investigate... Use the Monokuma File app! You can use this to easily store and reference pieces of evidence for the class trial! Remember, that’s TOMORROW AT NOON! Be just or be dead, upupupupu~!!!”

In one more blinding flash, Monokuma disappears.

You turn to the rest of the class. GG’s already gone, of course. Jacuzzi’s stumbled back into the room, a small amount of vomit visible on his shirt. Brenna has a hand on Iona, keeping her away from everyone else...

Tomorrow, at noon, someone in this room will be convicted as a murderer.

Can you really accept that?

After an unbearably long silence, Cindy speeds off, you can hear clangs of super-sped up feet on the stairs.

“We need... to calm down.” You say. “We can’t jump at eachother’s throats right now, if anyone else dies before the trial... It’ll just get worse!”

“Screw this, I’m getting out of here...” Randy says, quickly heading to the exit.

“I don’t want to... Die...” Jacuzzi nervously mutters, following.

You look towards Iona and Brenna.

“I know what you’re thinking...” Brenna says, that look of pure rage is back. “Nobody’s coming near her!”

“Sister...” Iona looks extremely anxious.

“Perseus has a point... An investigation has to happen... But if it’s too late at night for a trial, might it be too late to look into his death? That’s up to everyone to decide for themselves...”

You are like a baby. Watch this.
WITH MY POWERS OF AUTISM, I PRESENT THE

-IMPROVED MONOKUMA FILE-

---1. PRE-MURDER---
>The motive was whoever got away with murder would gain everyone else's magical power.
>Iona came up with the idea for the party, as well as the tropical motif and preparations. It's suspected that she did this because had a crush on Eric and wanted to confess to him, which is further supported by their conversation that Perseus and Brenna overheard.
>Brenna, Randy and Greta all showed up early to set up as well.
---2. TIMEFRAMES---
The people who arrived at the party were as follows:
>Sometime before 6:00 - Iona
>6:00 - Perseus
>6:50 - Brenna, Randy, Greta
>~7:30 - Everyone (Except for Cantara)
Iona and Eric had to have disappeared between the time after the movie and before we finished up with GG, since Greta saw them leave.
Eric died at 7:53 while he was in the elevator, shortly after his talk with Iona.
---3. CONTRADICTIONS---
>Iona ordered a glass of lemonade with one cube of ice (because she doesn't like it too chilled), which Greta quickly prepared. That's strange... Because based on the conversation we overheard, Iona had a drink that was too chilled for her- but she was still drinking it, before she gave it to Eric.
>All the evidence points to Eric being poisoned, since nobody else was in the elevator. The most obvious item is the drink he took, since he seemed fine during his talk with Iona... but Iona had probably been drinking it too, before Eric took it. How could the drink have been poisoned without killing Iona too?
---4. SUSPECTS & ALIBIS---
>Jacuzzi, Randall, Cindy and Cantara can all be eliminated, I think. The first three never left the party floor, and Cantara's not even here...
>Brenna was mostly alone in the observation room, but I was with her the whole time from when I left the arcade up to Eric's death. Maybe Sigurd can vouch for her...
>Iona left with Eric to talk with him, and she had that drink that may have very well been poisoned. But... poisoning your own drink? It wouldn't make any sense for her to be the killer.
>Sigurd was on the party floor for some time, before switching with Brenna in the observation room. I guess he and Brenna can act as each other's alibis.
>Gabriel pretty much holed himself up in the arcade... Normally I would immediately cross him off the list, but I shouldn't forget that he can teleport.
>Greta brought all of the drink ingredients, and was manning the bar Eric and Iona left. If that drink really was poisoned... I don't want to doubt her, but she's hiding something.
---5. MYSTERIES---
>Is there any way to verify Eric's cause of death?
>Who had the opportunity to obtain poison and give it to Eric? And how did they do it?
>What were Iona and Eric talking about?
>What happened in the timeframes where I was in the theatre and arcade?

The party started at 7:30, and I think about two hours have already passed. So the time of the death is also suspect, unless I'm missing something.

Holy shit.
This is the power of the Ultimate Austist!
I love it.

Damn. You’re right. I’m changing it to 9:53 PM. Sorry for confusion.

>>Who had the opportunity to obtain poison and give it to Eric? And how did they do it?
Remember they were in an alchemy lab floor, we're the only alchemist, but maybe you don't need to be a specialist to make some kind of poison? Maybe the intention of the killer is to blame it on us?

>That's strange... Because based on the conversation we overheard, Iona had a drink that was too chilled for her- but she was still drinking it, before she gave it to Eric.
Almost like it wasn't exactly the same drink?

Fucked around and made a Twitter. Follow for QM updates or other creative things I might be doing in the background.

>Cantara's not even here
She's an illusionist though, possibility's still there. Also depending on how good Cindy's speed magic is, she could be suspect as well. Regardless, we really do need to hear Brenna and Sigurd's accounts from the observation room, they're the ones who can give a detailed timeline of everything.

>>Is there any way to verify Eric's cause of death?
I hope alchemy studies means we can pull off some CSI bullshit too.

I'm late here but man, please don't do simultaneous vote/roll options again, just makes the votes look like they were influenced by the rolls, even if they aren't.

>>4058881
That’s a good point actually. I noticed that on the last roll option we did. So I should probably be asking for rolls after vote
