On the last time we returned from hiatus into a new life as Arkan, a second son of Laemor Baenarr, master baker of the Lyseni Baker's Guild. After a severe falling out with your father over both money and creative differences, you set out on your own to as a private entrepreneur as an unlicensed practitioner of medicine for a minor crime lord.

The said Crime lord is currently out with his men collecting a blood-debt, and you are standing alone at home witnessing bunch of red robed freaks attempting to break into the home of employer's pet sorceress and you are currently scrambling on donning your battle plate in order to give them a taste of your sword.

It is time to fight.

The frenzied sound of axes can be heard reverberating through your abode as the red robed strangers hack at the witch's door, rushing you to don your black armor fast as you can. Had you a squire, this deed would have been easier, but as Ser Hector said, "How can a knight teach his squire how to don his armor if he himself doesn't know how to do it?"

After fastening the leather strips, you give one last test to see that everything is moving properly before donning your skull helmet and pacing yourself for the coming melee. Gripping your greatsword, you go out of the door and...

You lift out the barricade from your door and emerge in full plate with your greatsword.
"BEGONE FOUL HERETICS! SIGMAR WILLS IT!"

You cleave the first red-robed freak in two as you bring down your greatsword upon him before he had even a chance to turn around.
As his friends turn around to see the black-plated visage of death, you took a second swing, sending two red chunks flying to the pavement.

The third one, immediately panics and begins heading for safety in numbers as what seems to be the leader of these folks pulls out a sword which ignites in flames.

"Forget the Apostate! Kill the servant of night. For the Fire and Dawn!"

"For the fire and dawn"
"For the fire and dawn"
"For the fire and dawn"

The Robed maniacs begin repeating their chant with each step as they begin approaching you carefully.

You stride towards the fool with confidence of a true alpha male, bring down your sword upon him as his lackeys begin to swarm you from the sides. A textbook overhead swing, but your foe was not so inexperienced as to let it connect so easily. Swapping to half-swording, you slip through his guard and give him a nasty injury on his left bicep.

Upon doing this, the goons began to grab and hinder you to the best of their abilities, managing to distract you just enough for him to strike at you with his sword with a mighty blow. Not mighty enough to defeat your armor however, but mighty nonetheless.

What was however more problematic was that his flaming sword could burn you through your armor.

After watching their leader fall, the red robed freaks dogpiled on you hard. There were eigh men on top of you trying to yank, pull and hook you with their axes in order to create an opening for the eight and despite breaking your guard and delivering a mighty blow with their swarm tactics, seeing the black knight be unphased and proceeding to cleave more of them in two caused them to rethink their chances.

There was no weak spots in your armor, no dents, no chinks and every blow dealt by you seemed to lead to being cut in half by the combination of your monstrous strength and top of the line gear.
Pools and piles of gore made the street smell like shit, more so than usual.

The chanting had stopped since you cleft their leader from head to groin and the flame in his sword had sputtered out, leaving only the smell of smoke and death in the air. The robed man in front of you hesitates, barely capable of holding his axe as hears the men behind him turning tail and sprinting at different directions at full speed.

He turns around and tries to follow his friends. You run after him and grab him by his shoulder, seeing only terror in his eyes through his mask before delivering a well placed gauntlet to his jawline, knocking him out cold.

>Acquired a red robed prisoner!

You drag your victim back to the dark alley of blood and gore, using the scraps of his friend's robes to bind his arms and legs to the best of your ability to make sure he doesn't immediately run away if he comes to his senses.

Your armor makes audible rattle as you plant your ass on the sidewalk to take a short breather. You can still feel the rush of adrenaline in your veins as you ride the high of victory midst the carnage you wrought, watching the stars in the night sky. The Moon is full tonight.

After a short breather, you decide to begin to liberate the stinky cadavers from their belongings, looting six serviceable battle axes. None of them had a coin purse with them save for the leader, who was carrying a hefty bag of Myrish silver coins. Will have to find out about the exchange rates later. The Robes were obviously quite unusable save as rags, beyond that, the cultist all were wearing charred, wooden masks colored black with soot and cheap looking wooden pendants shaped in form of R'hllor's flaming heart.

The leader's sword was quite frankly, shit. Not even properly tempered, a simple iron weapon what you presumed to be coated with some sort of flaming liquid prior the battle. Maybe some cheap knockoff Wildfire, didn't burn green and half as long nor as hot as the real deal. Whatever the man used, the sword itself seems to be pretty junky, but you looted it nevertheless.

>Gained 6 x Normal Quality Battle Axes
>Gained 1x Poor Quality Longsword
>Gained 7x Wooden Red Faith pendants
>Gained 70x Myrish Silver coins

Even after a bit of plundering, it didn't seem like the red robed lunatics were heading back.
Question is, what to do now?

> Go check on Hallayn
> Dump the isolated incident at Niiro's place

[ 1/2 ]

You knock on the witch's door.
"Hey, you still alive in there? Fighting's done."
You hear latches on her window being opened as she looks to the street, her face going blank and eyes widening at 14 chunks of gore and no doubt the stench of their ruptured and vacated bowels.
You raise your skeletal visor to show your face.
"Little thank you would be nice."
She closes the window, you hear her rushing to open the door before she frantically walks outside, looking at the dead leader, stunned.
"I am grateful for your assistance Arkan."
Her eyes wander to the bisected chunks of man
"You seem to be very proficient at killing."
"I get by. So what was the deal with these goons anyhow?"
"I have served many gods in my time, many of them jealous gods. Or so men say... Although, never have I heard of this Sigmar."
Mildly embarrassed, you dodge the question
"Why were they after you?"
"Long ago, I was slave for R'hllor in Myr, the Lord of Light was the first God I served. I was to be a temple prostitute, yet in those days I craved for more and fled. When they hunted for me, I became the possession of a man they could not touch."
She looks at the chunks of the leader who was cleft from head to groin.
"Still they have not forgotten the insult it seems."
"Think they will hold a grudge against me now?"
"...Yes, though they know to fear you now. I have seen aftermath of many a battle, yet rarely have I seen men suffer such blows. Did many survive?"
"About two thirds ran."
She turns to face you with a smile, her eyes longingly scanning your figure before they stop on the burn marks on your plate.
"You are hurt."
"Minor burns from the main guy's sword. I got ointment for that back home, I'm a physician by trade after all."
"I must repay you somehow..."
"It will have to wait, I've a prisoner to mind to and a night's worth of surgeon work to go through. Good night Hallayn."
You shake off the witch person before she starts try and unbuckle your codpiece and throw your new pet goon over your shoulder like a sack of potatoes.

"Arkan!"
You turn around to see the witch leaning at the frame of her door.
She bares her breast and blows you a kiss before sliding inside her home.

The Night air doesn't feel so cool all of a sudden.

Though Niiro's house was to be in full lockdown for the night, you knew the people inside. Striding to your neighbor's house in black plate, a red human shaped sack on your shoulder and a greatsword at your back led to a reception you would have expected, suspicious looks, whispers behind the door and sounds of crossbows loading.

That was, until you actually opened your mouth and raised your visor.

"Ashayanne, I know you're in there it's me, Arkan."
The eye slit on the door opened rapidly.
"Arkan? What by the bloody angels of Bakkalon happened? We heard yelling, screaming and fighting!"
You point to your shoulder mounted goon accessory
"Turns out bunch of these robed freaks came at Hallayn's door with axes, so I fought them off and took this one as a prisoner. Was wondering if you could open the way to the cellar, my shoulder is getting bit tired."
"Yes, yes of course, Master Niiro will be most pleased with your work Arkan."
"Should fucking hope so. If not, I will begin to question the nature our friendship."
After some removing of barricades, you were finally let into the house. The frightened staff looked on as you rattled past them in your plate to Niiro's cellar. After locking the man in a cage, you sat down in the garden and took a breather.

After a while Ashayanne, Niiro's favored slave girl approached you.
"Are we under attack?"
"Not anymore. It's been taken care of."
"Good. That is good. The rest of the household will be relieved."

You began to hear the sound of boots and wagon wheels coming off from the street, in no small quantity.

"It's Niiro! He is back!"
Shortly afterwards a rabble of men entered along with the displeased looking Niiro, who watched you sit in his garden with your bloodied plate.
He turns to his household and addresses them.
"You will all be happy to hear we did what we set out to do."
He raises his hands in the air dramatically
"However, when we came back, I was shocked to find a whole slew of corpses in front of my physician's house."
"Anyone here want to tell what the fuck exactly happened when we were gone?"

"Some red robed freaks appeared after dark and started wailing at your Sorceress' door with axes. Reckoned it was only neighborly for me to break out my toys and go to town."
His face starts to twitch in anger, as he takes deep breaths through his nostrils to try and calm himself before lashing out and kicking one of his tables on it's side.
"WHO THE HELL DO THEY THINK THEY ARE?!?"
The man roars with so much fury that he is practically foaming at the mouth
"Do I look so fucking weak that they think they can just take what's mine!?!?"
The man stand back from him as he looks for another target to vent his fury on
"No 'Oh, hello, we'd like to buy your freshly acquired slave', oh no! Too fucking cheap to do talk like civilized men are they? This isn't fucking over... I fucking swear this isn't fucking over!"
"Boss, we still got some of the lads who need patching up..."

He gives a violent glare at the man who dared to speak out of term.
"Arkan, you good to work?"
"It's what you paid for. Oh, also, I knocked out one of the goons and stuck him to your cellar. Just in case you'd like to have a word with him."
"Bless your fucking soul Arkan. Right, I'm going to go and have a word with this fuckface. You patch up this sorry lot. We'll have words once we're done, I'll not forget this any time soon."

>30 on healing
>You really are too good for these goons

"Alright ladies, some boiling water if you'd please."
After a brief triage, you begin to clean and suture wounds like a sewing machine, removing barbed arrows and bolts here and there.
"Looks like someone had a crossbow firing bolts dipped in wolfsbane. Not to worry, it's no Basilisk Venom. Aftereffects of this sort of budget poison are easily enough dealt with. Take it easy for a while and treat yourself to some meat. It'll help with the blood loss."
The man nods you quietly with a deathly pallor as he lies on the floor.
"Next one? Anyone left?"
"All done is done Arkan. You really outdid yourself today. Come, Niiro wishes to speak with you."

Ashayanne leads you to Niiro's room where he's drinking heavily.

"This was fucking night and then some wasn't it? Drink with me."
"You know, I don't..."
"You don't drink, you don't fuck, you don't gamble..."
He down's his mug as he chuckles sadly
"Well, at least you fight. Some fucking vice you picked. Bakkalon's balls, I've seen a lot of wetwork, but that was some impressive butchery... That the sword you used to cleave the guy from head to groin?"
"It is."
"Do you mind?"
You hand it over and he carefully inspects it.
"Haven't held a sword this finely made before."
He gives it a swing in the air, feeling it's balance
"You know, they wouldn't sell this sort of stuff to me even if I asked the smiths guild for it. The armor too, absolutely pristine, better take good care of it."
"Thanks."
He hands your sword back to you
"Planning on fighting in the pit of glory?"
"I am."
"I'll have to come and see you fight then. Maybe I'll learn something."

He sighs tiredly and sits down, refilling his cup.
"Look, I owe for this, big time, like you wouldn't believe. If those red freaks had gotten away with their work, it would have made me look weak. Instead..."
He laughs
"You showed what happens when you try to steal from me."
"Listen, if you need something from me? Just name it. You want a bigger house? Gold? Slaves? Connections? Someone you want gone? If it's within my power, I'll pull some strings and also..."
He gives you a nasty grin
"If you're interested in more wetwork, I think we can work something out."

>[Paperwork]: "I'd like some forged letters of recommendation."
Specifically marking us out as a great doctor and educated wiseman. Idea is to get us into the upper strata of Westerosi politics and close to rulers so we have some credibility to throw around without needing to be a noble or knight.

That or a bigger house for a workshop setup.

both can be used
but I think a loan with large returns will convince him to shell out more. The Harrenhal thing is the cow we need to feed. Sure,we can make stuff with less. But time was never on our side.
>>
Seeing a really mixed bag here. Did we decide on a main objective for this life? What we do we want to work on first?

If it's an option I'd rather take an IOU because we could use it to fill in whatever gaps remain after we (presumably) win fame and fortune in the upcoming games.
>>
>>4055392
Can we just tell him we'll have to think on it? We should be able to have our answer after the festivities.

And based on how we do at said festivities, we as anons may come to a better agreement on how to spend his favor.

I'd say the obvious choice is after the games to try to start up a printing press again.

If she's worth sending that many people after, she's almost certainly the real deal. We could use a bit of arcane know-how.

Also, important to note that without backing we may get fucked over with our betting...so I’d be careful with a loan.

"No need to get sappy, Just give me some gold and we'll call it even."

> Your relationship with Niiro has improved
> Gained 20 Lyseni Gold Joys for making an example of Red Robed cultists ( 2100 Silver Stags )
> Gained 5 Lyseni Gold Joys bonus for capturing a living prisoner ( 525 silver stags )
> Current moneys 25 Lyseni Gold Joys, 81 Lyseni Silver prides ( 2795 silver stags )

That night you slept late, waking up only at midday and finding that someone had "accidentally" managed to break a cart transporting sand in your alleyway. Afterwards, a completely seperate cart carrying spoiled fish had broken in front of your apartment, completely masking the smell of dead bodies. What a lucky coincidence!

Luckily the owners had the courtesy to leave some very rough looking cleaners to sweep away what remained of the mess left by such an unfortunate miscarriage. Always a shame when honest business is so disrupted.

There's two days till the festivities start. As a result, there has been an increasing quantity of ships has been making port with much of the offshore Lyseni electorate making the trip just to cast their votes.

Furthermore, there has been a visible increase in security with more patrols walking the day and existing ones being more heavily armed than usual, carrying swords over clubs and halberds over catchpoles.

Today, your schedule is more or less open and you've got gold aplenty, enough so infact that you could afford most slaves on the market or even a warhorse, should you care for such things.

Remember when on last thread Rommie was set free by his master because Lyseni law demands slaveowners to pay for lodging, food and medical expenses of slaves?
>>
>>4058586
Well perhaps there is someone willing to sell them selves into slavery for the chance of a cure.
>>
>>4058604
Do you want to share a single room apartment with someone seriously ill?
>>
>>4058609
that is... a very good point.
Perhaps it would be wise to wait on the slave collecting.
>>
>>4058609
How expensive would a rented room with bunk beds for a month with sufficient food be? 2 Joys?
>>
>>4058885
That'd be a good plan, have our own tiny research hospital
>>
>>4058609
I know Coronavirus got into your country recently, but I think that's going too far.
>>
100ss a month for a guard and about 40ss for rent and food.
>>
>>4059051
So 140 of our 2700 wealth? Great.

How much would your average sick slave cost? Could we get them off the street for free in any reasonable quantity?
>>
>>4059059
Also, can we get them weaving baskets or some such shit to earn their keep?
>>
>>4059060
They'll earn their keep by being worth a lot more once we cured them
>>
>>4059066
Bad idea to leave them lazing about in a room for a month. If they can do some work, use them.
>>
Well there aren't many jobs sick slaves could do with any sort of efficiency. What might work would be teaching the slaves some medical skills, proper hygiene and how to get swole. Then once they become competent at those things they can treat and teach each other leaving us with more time to do other things.

Having those skills would also make them worth more/get treated better if we sell them later.
>>
>>4059059
Average slaves cost anywhere from 100 to 800 depending on skillset.
These are of course, people with trade skills, such as sailors and their ilk.

Cheaper slaves exist, which are either criminals, lacking of trade skills and people captured as booty.

Learned, highly skilled slaves are premium goods along with exceptionally beautiful slaves.

While sick people can sell themselves to slavery in order to pay for their medical expenses, slave owners have legal responsibility over the lives of their slaves in Lys and as such, can't openly sell sick slaves.

I am not saying there isn't a profit to be made from healing the sick slaves and selling them off, there definitely is, but other cities are better for it legally speaking.
>>

Understood. Shame. We should then just pick subjects for ourselves as best we can for now and focus on getting enough explosive equipment and maybe even a revolver or Super Shotgun for cases like the Mountain.

>Operation Market Garden

With the alley holding such a pungent smell for the time being, you decided that you didn't exactly want to stay at home for the time being and with such coin in your pocket, you weren't in rush to do any doctoring work either, albeit your would be customers likely will need to find another physician.

Nevertheless, you took to the markets in hopes of viewing what manner of goods all these new ships brought with them. In regards to arms or armor, you were not exactly left wanting. In fact a cursory glance over the equipment you find the Steelworkers guild put on display was fairly lacking in contrast to what you already possessed, but there were more things on sale than simply weapons.

Goods from west and east could be found, lacquers, dyes, spices, exotic woods, fabrics and medicines could be found displayed at the various stores as the shopkeepers attempted to beckon you inside.

"Fresh slaves! Strong and in good health, we've selection from every corner of known world!"

"Myrish imports just unloaded! Lenses, Crossbows, Laces and Wines, we've got it all!"

"Animals exotic and mundane! Pets and beasts of burden! Come and browse!"

"Wines from every corner of the Narrow sea! We've got Tyroshi Brandy and sweet Pentoshi wines all the way to Westerosi goods from Dornish Wines to Arbor reds and golds and a wide selection of stouts! Celebrate in good spirits!"

You casually strolled the markets, looking at the selection, marveling at the vast quantity of things you do not need and things you might need, but didn't have the space for. Midst your strolling, you came across a variety of stores which weren't so boisterous in their marketing.

Small store, tightly packed in goods from Yi Ti possessing porcelain goods, rice, and other goods of the orient at absurd prices, but nevertheless of impressive quality.

A large library / bookstore, which boasts the patronage of a coalition of merchant princes and a selection of literature and maps from all over the world, copied for your pleasure and their profit.

An eerie looking curio shop, supposedly dealing in baubles and oddities from all the way from Asshai.

Can select more than one, I just don't wanna generate prices unless they're needed

Lot of cash blown on books but they will help us in our travels. Rest of the books should be self-evident but Ravenry can be dropped if anons want. Good utility but might not be worth much to us at the given time.

Bombs are 70ss per piece so getting 3-4 should not be much of an issue. A gun with enough ammo is around 200 ss iirc.

Some decent clothes to look presentable to higher society but foremost to get materials for personal bombs and some firearms. Crucial factor in turning us from a combat monster to a demigod capable of handling breaches, knights, doors, cavalry and whatever the fuck else. The waifufaggotry is merely an attempt to start the fire.

As far as I can tell, we'd be able to do the most killing with Witch around when faggot Red Priests try to kill her.

Shitty ones with glass shards. Iron ones are actual frags. Heavier ones can clear rooms no-worry but are too bulky to carry on person imo. We could have wiped the whole cultist mass with a 10lb one but that would have also rearranged some of the scenery. And, you know, given the walls a new coat of red.

That Gold necklace alone is more than everything you own.
Seems to be wearing Silk with a leather coat and a silver belt along with various other decorations.

I'd say around 1500-2000ss range without the gold decorations. thanks to that silver belt alone.
With the gold necklace, we'd be in hundreds of thousands.
Without silver belt or jewelry, it would be around 500-600ss range.

"Good day Laharra, you still got that tailor around?"
"What, Mathos? Aye, he still works here, looking to get some work done?"
"Something like that. Could you fetch him for me?"
"Sure thing Arkan"

In few moments, a smartly dressed man appeared who spoke Valyrian with a thick accent.

"New clothes, yes? Something for work or more festive? Have you thought of materials yet? Linen? Wool? Cotton?"
"Was thinking of some silk clothes, do you do that here?"
"We do, but guild insists on payment up front."

You slide two gold coins to him
"That should do for something moderate, wouldn't you say?"

Laharra's eyes widened at the yellow glint
"Where on earth did you get Gold?"
"I've a generous patron. So, can we work with this Mathos?"
"Hmmm... Won't be enough for any of the finer work, but..."
"Just something that looks sharp, is somewhat easy to wear."
"Will need to skimp on some of the patterns, though I think I can make anything look good on a man with your figure. Come, I shall take measurements."
He says as he leads you to a backroom

"Alright then, please strip if you would, an stand on this stool over here."
As you take off your shirt to reveal your rippling physique, the tailor's jaw drops
"Goodness! What manner of life have you lead to build that sort of muscle?"
"One of unyielding training and dieting. Who would seek advice from a physician with the physique and pallor an anemic rodent?"
"A very severe way to live."
The man says as he measures your waist
"Your abdomen is very strongly built."
"Thanks brah. Do some deadlifts and you'll get there too."
"Would that I had the time for such things. Turn around."
Whilst he was measuring your body, you could hear the door creak.

"One moment."
The tailor opened the door revealing three of the seamstresses peeping.
"Go! Stop disrupting my craft!"
The three ladies scurried off giggling and the tailor shut the door before resuming measurements.
"Apologies, an undisciplined lot they are."
He says as he begins measuring your groin area.
"You'll be happy to know you're on the larger side."
"Oh please, I bet you say that to all the customers."
"Well, yes, but this time Mathos does not lie. Such work I could do with this figure, but alas we are bound by coin."
"So, what are you thinking?"
"We should go for a more sharp look, you are a large man as is, everyone want clothes that hide their flabby forms, but in your case there is no need for that."
He thinks for a moment
"I think by tomorrow's night it should be done. Just need to resize some used pieces and we have ourselves an outfit."
"You'll do that then."

You say, getting dressed

After purchasing some books, materials for explosives and having a tailor take your measurements, you made your way back home, where the unfortunate carriage drivers had finally managed to clean up their mess and someone had even gotten around changing Hallayn's door, this one unmarred with pigeon blood.

Niiro's swashbucklers were keeping a close eye on the streets and gave you a silent nod as you passed by them when you entered your narrow alleyway.

You could hear some sort of chanting going in Hallayn's apartment as you rummaged for your keys. Deciding not to bother with whatever the fuck she was up to, you laid down your recent purchases and got to work into mixing powder and assembling the bombshells, filling them with appropriate quantities of black powder and shrapnel.

If those fucks decide come up with twice the number next time, these should help convince them of the merits of civilized discourse and secular law. You'd bet these are more effective than whatever the redhead's cooking up, that's for damn sure.

After finishing your explosives, binoculars and your workout routine, it was already late. The day had gone swiftly, but not unproductively. You made sure your door was barred, but this time elected to leave the arms locker unlocked, just in case.

You gave a quick once-over to the street from the window and saw one of Niiro's lookouts keeping a close eye on your alley. You gave him a nod as you closed down shop for the night.

You hear the sounds of very pissed off cats in the distance, hissing and screaming. Like a whole bunch of them. They're not on your street, but they're somewhere on the block. They do this for a damn near an hour.

Beyond that, you hear nothing else that's strange during the night.

Morning has come once again and with it the daily ritual of getting up, blasting piss at a bucket, emptying said bucket tothe sewer drain and performing your daily exercise routine and getting dressed. Sometimes even in that order.

However, tonight your hallowed rites were interrupted by a blasbhemous knock on the door and after confirming if wasn't some poor and oppressed religious minority, you opened the door.

What greeted you was the scarred face of Syrys, the thug you yanked from jaws of death when you made your debut to the industry of unlicensed practice of medicine.

"G'mooning Syrys, what's the deal coming to me so early?"
"Just needed to ask, you didn't happen to notice anything weird during the night?"
You rack your brain as you yawn
"Bunch of pissed off cats making sounds during the night, but besides that, not much else."
"Any idea where those noises came from?"
You groggily point at a direction
"I guess somewhere thereabouts, what's this about?"
He looks left and right, making sure there's nobody there and lowers his voice.
"We found some poor fuck drifting down storm drains this morning. Looked like someone threw him at the pack of rabid cats and dumped what was left of him down the sewers."
"That's kind of fucked up."
"Yeah? Don't spread this around. We're looking into this shit."
"Right.."

As he leaves with such perturbing tidings, you finish up your daily stretches and exercises. Tomorrow's going to be a big day, an exercise of nearly superhuman effort.

First the day will open with a ritual sacrifice and Gladiatorial battle.
Then, it is followed by athletic contests of skill, opening with a strongman contest, followed by javelin throwing and wrestling.
Afterwards, there is a rope climbing and a swimming contest, finally finishing up with an archery contest and a marathon.

Even if you were not victorious, merely finishing all these contests from dawn till dusk, will be a feat to surely invite the envy and admiration of women and lesser men.

Now, what to do with the remaining day?

Reckoning that since you've already enough money to live for a while with no problems, you could spend some time pushing the boundaries of medicine further.

Deciding to check up on your patients, you headed to the Temple district where the beggars were allowed to ply their trade, eager to see if your treatment had any effect on the boy.

Unfortunately, he was nowhere to be found, so you had to ask around. "Do you know Rommie old man?"
"Might be I do, might be I don't."
Unhelpful as usual.
You hold a silver in your hand, clear in the sight of the old beggar.
"Young boy with poxy face, aye?"
"Correct. Know anything?"
He gives you a toothless grin
"Silver for my thoughts?"
You flick the coin into his cup
"You'll find him in the Andal Temple for their Seven Gods. Some quack healer gave him medicine that gave him a fever."
You left the toothless old beggar behind, making brisk pace to the humble, disheveled small sept located in the shadow of Bakkalon's temple.

Inside an old septon greeted you in Valyrian.
"Welcome. I've not seen you here before. Are you a sailor or a pilgrim perhaps?"
"Neither" You answer to him in the common tongue
The Septon raises an eyebrow and continues in the Westerosi language.
"I'm afraid we do not hold sermons today."
"I am not here for sermons."
"This is a house of worship, holy ground consecrated in service of the Seven who are one. If you do not have business with the gods, I'm afraid I must ask you to leave."
You pace around the poor temple, it's painted altars and wooden sculptures to the seven gods, a farcry of the opulence in Great Sept of Baelor.
"I heard you've taken in a boy here. He introduced himself as Rommie to me last time we met."
The Septon's eyes narrow as he looks at you
"This is no place for heathens. Please leave."
"The boy, I hear was suffering from a fever, this was correct, yes?"
You say, as you stop by the Stranger's shrine
The Septon speaks nothing and simply glares
"Well, as a physician, it is my expert opinion that the fever is indeed, a good thing as it means the body is now battling the sickness. However, the boy does require hearty meals and lodgings as he recovers."
You pick some silvers from your pouch and place them on the Stranger's shrine.
"Good enough reason for a donation, yes?"
"You are the one who poisoned the boy."
"The process of healing isn't painless, you as a Septon should know as much."
He looks at you suspiciously
"May I see the boy? All I wish is to cure him."
He sighs
"If you swear no harm will come to him by your doing."
"Of course, I am here only to help."
>>
[2/2]

He takes you to a backroom where the boy is tucked in under blankets.
"Hello Rommie. I see, your body has begun fighting the sickness."
He simply eyes at you tiredly, not saying anything as he wraps himself tighter into his woolen blanket.
"He needs rest. Do not bother him further."
The Septon says, pulling you back to the main Sept at large.
"Have you fed him?"
"Gruel, aye."
He replies sadly
"Not good enough for recovery. He needs more hearty sustenance."
"I am afraid we cannot afford to feed or house everyone who comes here."
"Take of the silver I brought, I shall bring more if need be. Should the cure defeat the sickness, it's significance will be tremendous and a handful of silvers will be a small price to pay."
He shakes his head
"I'm afraid we got rid of your medicine when the fever broke. We thought it the poison causing the fever. I heard you had warned the boy to end the treatment should side-effects emerge after all."
"I have more, not to worry. I believe we should resume the treatment if there is nothing else ailing the boy save for the fever. We might be at the precipice of a total recovery."
"I pray you that you are right."
"See that you do. Your sept could do with a miracle or two by he looks of it."
After making arrangements for one of his congregation to pick up the medicine from your place, you left the temple district behind, deciding to...

> Go pick up your new threads

After settling things with the somewhat suspicious clergyman, you set out to the weavery to see if Mathos had already finished his work on your outfit.

Upon entering, you were greeted by Irro, the owner of the place, and Laharra's father.

"Good day master Irro."
"Arkan. I hear you've been visiting often in my absence. Silk clothes, threads and bandages."
"Sailors are a source of good coin. Well paid and prone to accidents."
"Enough so that you'll be dressing up like a nobleman now?"
"A very poor nobleman, I should point out."
He chuckles
"How'd the guild meeting go?"
"Fucking disgraceful, apparently we're now making alliances with the prostitutes in order to keep our businesses running. Goddamn Temples throwing their weight around. Almost as if they want to preach naked or something?"
"Well, that's politics for you. If there were no zealots or corrupt degenerates to fight, good men would have little to do."
"Ain't that the truth."

You give a glance at the back room
"So, are my clothes ready?"
"In a moment, Mathos is still giving it finishing touches. In the meanwhile, why don't you tell me what you bought them for? Planning to charm some ladies during the golden week?"
"Or perhaps you had someone special in mind."
He narrows his eyes at you
"Maybe I wanted to flex on my family? Show them exactly how much coin I am raking in."
"Really? And you're not planning to do anything else during the week, not inviting my daughter to the opening ceremonies for example without telling me?"
You give him a deadpan look
"I'm actually participating in the opening ceremonies."
"What? In the blood games?"
"...and the strongman contest, the javelin throwing, the wrestling, the rope climbing, swimming and the archery contest and finishing up with the running contest."
"Well, shit. And you actually plan to finish all that in one day?"
"I was planning on winning at least some of these contests."
He eyes you up and down oddly
"You're a fit guy, but isn't that a bit foolhardy?"
"Well, I'd look downright silly if I went back on my word at this point."
"Bakkalon's balls... You got guts at least. Let's go see if your clothes are done."

After trying the fit of your new fancy clothes and seeing they were good, you thanked Mathos for work well done and left the store.

Once you had left, Laharra came downstairs to the main store.
"Told you it was nothing."
"Nothing my ass... I'll have to see how he plans to pull this off."
"We're going to watch then?"
"Aye, we'll be going you little weasel you."
"And if he does win?"
"He'll have my approval I suppose. The Guild could always use more strong arms."

> Plot twist time!

You decide to pay a visit to your family with your new threads on to let them know that the wayward son is not only handsome and loaded, but is also competing in the big ceremony tomorrow.

As you made your way through the streets, your new clothes caught some mires by the passersby, more so than you usually got with your raw physique alone. The attention felt good, giving you a certain high from the a sense of superiority for being not only being a tanned, musclebound man with a beach body as your shiny leather shoes clacked against the pavement.

Upon reaching the familiar neighborhood in the rich part of town where your father had his shop, you noticed a large amount of heavily armored guards in the area, Westerosi Guards, and the small tea-house area of your father's shop being packed full with important looking patrons.

Extremely important ones, so important you had began to question what the fuck were they even doing here. The guards were bearing colors of Red on Black of House Targaryen, and the occasional colors of Red and Gold of Martell and spotting three members of the Kingsguard keeping an eye out.

Gerold Hightower the White Bull, Arthur Dayne the Sword of the Morning and whom you guess to be Prince Lewyn Martell from his Dornish look.

As you stood there, stunned in your silken clothes, Ser Gerold approaches you with a deadpan look, speaking in broken Valyrian.
"Private party. Go around."

How do you respond?

we're a teenager who was supposed to show off to our family now it backfired, take a guess.
>>
>>4072308
I mean if we go to Harrenhal next year at the very least we can't go alone.
We would have to find a squad of "trustworthy" men to go with us, and then we could just have each one of us take a portion of the pooled funds to place the same bet.
And if we get enough renown from this it would not seem strange for us to go to a tourney given our success here.

Have we seen proof that her magic does anything but make a mess with birb blood?

Only other users of magic we know much about is Qyburn who has some degree of skill in necromancy, the greenseers with their shapeshifting and druid magic, and Marwyn the archmaester (the one with the glass candle). Marwyn is probably our best bet if we want to do witcher mutagen stuff because he travelled in Essos studying magic with warlocks and shadowbinders and has been as far as Asshai. We may have met Marwyn before when we were studying at the citadel.

Also the viability of magic may be linked to the dragons because it was mentioned in A Clash of Kings that the glass candles had started to burn after a hundred years.

My family own's the bakery. Are you telling me that I am not allowed to see them?"
He eyes you up and down, suspiciously
"Baker's son who speaks common in Lys and wears the silks of a nobleman?"
You shrug innocently as you can with your extremely broad shouldeds
"If you doubt me, why not ask the people inside, they know me."
"Problem is you could have bribed them."
He paces around you with hand on his sword.
"You've the body of a warrior."
"I've got the moves of one too, if that's what you're asking."
"A sellsword who doesn't know his place."
"Actually a physician who doesn't know his place."
"Healer and Poisoner are two sides of same coin."
You laugh
"As if I'd need poison for-"

"What are you two arguing about?"
Ser Arthur Dayne approaches the scene
"Your colleague here thinks I might be here to poison your prince."
"He claims to be the baker's son and well, just look at him."
"What is your name?"
You give to him a courteous bow in accordance of royal etiquette
"I am Arkan and the second son of the famed baker Laemor Baenarr, whom is the owner of this establishment. I am physician by trade, warrior by hobby, athlete by passion, an erudite by nature and a baker by circumstance."
"Second son? How old are you?"
"Fifteen Ser Knight."
He raises an eyebrow scratching his head
"For someone of your age, you certainly know your courtesies."
Ser Arthur remarks
"I know lots of things Sword of Morning, but rest assured I hold no interest in your prince or your entourage. I am merely here to let my family know of my entry in tomorrow's games."
He sighs
"Few words surely won't hurt anyone Ser Gerold."
Giving you a suspicious look, he barks to one of the guards to bring your father forth.

"Heyho pops. I see you've royal visitors."
He scoffs
"At least the Prince has respect for tradition."
Looking at your clothes, he gives you a disapproving look
"Did you dress up with intent to use me to curry favor with him?"
"What this? Oh no, I actually had no idea of any of this. I just bought this to annoy you by showing my success and to let you know your wayward son will be competing in the coming games."
He grumbles and rolls his eyes
"Still no humility whatsoever..."

Whilst you were speaking with your father, Prince Rhaegar decided to approach with many more of his guards escorting him.
He was dressed in black and red silks with ruby ornaments and a gambeson greatcoat, carrying his Valyrian steel sword at his hip. Though he had the body of a warrior, he was not comparable to you nor Ser Gerold in sheer physique.
"Is there a problem here?"
"Apologies prince Rhaegar, my insolent son has decided on the most inopportune time to pay a visit."
You give him a courteus bow as he eyes you, replying in Westerosi
"I was unaware that my father had such prestigious patrons. Apologies for disrupting, what I presume to be your honeymoon."
"It is of no concern. My wife Elia isn't feeling too well, so we will be making our leave anyhow."
He gives your father five gold dragons for his services, replying to him in Valyrian
"It was a good experience. I'll want you to make an assortment of everything that can survive a ship voyage to King's Landing. My father the King should like that."
"It will be done on my honor."
He bows to the dragon prince as he turns to leave, followed by his entourage.

Well, that was something
"So, will you be coming to watch me compete?"
You ask your father who scoffs at you before walking back to his bakery.
"Suit yourself"

You turn and make your way back home. On your way back noticed the number of guards on the streets seems to have increased once more.

With little else to do, you decided to spend the remainder of sunlight in reading the fighting manual you had purchased, which opened up with importance of stances and footwork.

Just to be entirely clear, you have not broken any laws by killing the people who went axing away at your neighbor's house.

The only downside to doing this is that we will never be able to use that armour again without the entire city knowing it's us. Possibly every other city in the area too since there are so many visitors right now.

> Skull Knight

You wake early in the morning and do your stretches before cladding yourself into your ferrous exoskeleton, taking a moment to make sure the plumes on your helmet were in presentable condition before walking out of the door in full gear.

As you did so, one of the gangers beckoned you to come around. They had a wagon prepared with Niiro onboard.
"You want a ride to the Pit of Glory?"
"Don't mind if I do actually."

You stepped on the vessel and it creaked onwards towards your Colosseum where death or glory would await you.
"Nervous?"
"A bit, yea."
He nods
"I'll be betting on you for old times sake, so try not to die."
"I'll do my best."

As the wagon creaked, you were stopped by guards to inquire of your purpose a few times, but of course you had a good reason to be out in your battle plate.

The streets were quite busy for so early in the day, many people were early to reserve their places in the queues, some you reckon came in dead of night. Some of the more opportunistic individuals were selling snacks and drink already.

As you reached the staff entrance, Niiro wished you good luck as he left to try and see if he couldn't bribe someone for their place in the queue.

You descended the dark corridors lit by lanterns before finally reaching the area for the fighters. Sky could be seen through the wooden gridwork in the ceiling that let in fresh air.

You got some looks from the rough individuals gathered who were picking their gear from what was available as you adressed the scribe

"Name?"
"I am registered as Arkan."
"Good~ Now let me tell you how this works. You'll get to pick your fight, if we think the crowd likes it, we may offer a second one, but no pressure, you lot are essentially a warmup act for the professionals."
"If you wish to put up a bit of a show, we won't stop you."
"What sort of matches there are?"
"The fights will be to the death as a general rule. Entry pay for you, as you recall, will be 50 silver prides (105ss) yes? This is for those willing to fight equal numbers."
"I remember. There was mention of bonuses too."
"Ah! Ambitious sort, good! Knew it from your armor."
"See, the basic fights against criminals are well and good, but the real money is to be fight either great many foes or dread beasts."
"Do elaborate."
"Well, Dothraki maybe cheap to acquire but fierce fighters and killing them is always a crowd pleaser. We'll pay a bonus of 30 prides for each you take down."
"So if I fought 10, I'd get 300 silver prides? (630ss)"
"That is correct and of course the tips thrown by the crowds if they're impressed. Other sorts of fights, well... there's animals. Dogs pay 10 (21ss), Tigers and bears pay for 100 prides each (210ss) and a frenzied elephant is a 1000 (2100ss). Naturally, you can always split the rewards with other fighters if you feel like taking them on together."
"Right, I'll think about it."
"Oh, and if you want to enter with a stage name, let us know beforehand."

Dogs and prisoners are boring so lets do a match against multiple dothraki, at least 10, maybe less as a warmup first. They will think they have strength in numbers but turning large groups of unarmoured enemies into chunky salsa is exactly what we geared ourselves for.

Can we ask for more fights afterward? I'd like a crack at those bears, maybe we can talk them into letting us keep the pelt as a souvenir. I don't think we can handle an elephant unless we do it with a group.

Yeah, that is a good point about the bombs. Though I think this is effectively a free for all. I mean, we are in full armor, with a full length sword, facing off against unarmored opponents, with arakhs (presumably, if they were POWs, then it makes sense that they'd be armed with the arms they were captured with), with are basically an even worse version of the Egyptian Khopesh. And the Khopesh is really lousy.

I mean, look at this thing. An arakh is probably better at threshing wheat then killing lmao. They put those savages up against a fully armored opponent, they expect us to brutalize them. They want blood, give them the bombs.

Also, King, it doesn't seem like there is any consensus on a name. Do you want to make a list of them, assign numbers and then roll for them or something?
>>
>>4075088
>Egyptian Khopesh
Didn't that suck because it was made from copper or really shitty bronze and kept bending?
I think the idea of a round blade weapon for a rider is fundamentally sound and a good way to transform the speed of the rider into cutting power through a small impact point. Without horses and against heavy armor I agree that it is pretty useless.
>>
>>4075071
Not really, there's been dweebs who use flaming swords every now and then.
>>
>>4075088
If there is no consensus, you will probably go with Arkan.
>>
>>4075092
Yeah, if I remember correctly, that was part of it. Still, the design is basically a really primitive take on the saber, which as you said, when used on horseback, takes the speed of the rider and the force of the chop, and concentrates into a small point of impact. Sabres are able to make this work beautifully.

The issue with the khopesh and the arakh is that the geometry of the point of impact is lousy. To optimize the power of the blade, you want the most force, over the smallest area. But because they have a blade that is nearly circular, the cut itself isn't stable. If you hit something the was able to move freely, the target would roll around the blade, (or if the target wasn't able to move freely, then the blade itself might roll around the target). The mechanical advantage of the cut would be lost to this roll, as the force would be constant, but the point of impact would increase in size.

The geometry of the sabre addresses this, as they are noticeably less extreme then the khopesh (or the arakh), which makes the cut more stable, which reduces the roll, which makes the point of impact smaller, which maintains mechanical advantage.

>Fiddy Dothraki

"What if I told you I'd wanna fight fifty Dothraki?"
He eyes you up and down.
"I'd say you'd be extremely reckless doing so and while it might make for a decent show, I don't think I'd recommend you to do it personally."
You chuckle
"Come on, look at me. Man with this many skulls on his armor? How is he going to win the crowd's favor if not overcoming such odds."
The scribe looks at you a bit sadly
"Look, tell you what. I'll talk to the guys upstairs, maybe we can work something out. This is highly unusual after all."

He leaves for a moment before returning.
"Well, good, or bad news how you want to take it. They're letting you take on this foolhardy challenge, but the way this is going to work is that essentially, they don't think you're going to really win."
"Right, so... what's the problem then?"
"Essentially, they want you to go in there with your fancy armor, try and survive as long as you can, and when it looks like you're about to fall, they'll send in the professionals to deal with your leftovers and they'll pay you based on how many you take down before they need to send in the main act. Hopefully your armor will protect you enough that you won't succumb to your injuries. Sound good?"
"Well, I'm not going to turn down a free insurance policy. Sign me up."

He shakes his head as he adds your name to the list.
"Alright, just wait around, you'll be last on the line then. Feel free to look anyone to join you on this challenge, but I doubt anyone will agree to join."
"Oh no, that's fine, I'll just linger about then."

After waiting for the lesser men to clean up the criminals, the rabid dogs and other lesser foes, your time finally came.

"Alright, if you're still down for doing this, now's your time."
You check your armor, your sword, your bombs and naturally the igniter. Everything was there.
"I am very much ready my good man."
"Did you have a stage name?"
"Just go with my real name, no need to invent silly make belief names."
"As you wish Arkan, right down those stairs."

As you entered, the announcer yelled about.
"And here we have one of our local lads, a brave fellow named Arkan seeking to test his skill against a foul and repugnant foe from the mainland of Essos, rapers, thieves, murderers and raiders! Would be conquerors and godless savages! I present to you, the DOTHRAKI HOOORDE!"

Alright by this point, you have wounded everyone around you to the point that they no longer are a threat to you, I'm going to count them as dead.

There's now about 16 dothraki left who could POTENTIALLY do damage to you. You've now essentially made a barrier of weakened Dothraki around you, which means the healthy ones kinda have to come at you one at a time.

Unless they're going to MAGICALLY start rolling really, really good, I'm gonna roll until we've got 16 turns worth of Dothraki attacks and if they haven't killed you by then, they're probably not going to since you injure/kill one of them once per turn.

"I present to you, THE DOTHRAKI HOOORDE!"

A throng of fifty shirtless barbarians with short, unkempt hair emerged to the arena, swaggering with confidence, their Arakhs reflecting in the sun.

However, even before the savages made it fully into the arena, the lone black knight standing against them took a pair of black round iron balls from his belt, igniting them with a shower of sparks and casting them midst the Dothraki.

Easily dodging such clumsy projectiles, they fell flat on the ground at the center of the throng, their wicks still spitting out sparks as they were picked up by the savage warriors, and...

https://youtu.be/OJqs9mHll1k

The balls transformed to a flash, a mighty eruption of fire and smoke, transforming the fools who picked them up into mangled pieces of gore and causing severe injuries to great many of the men surrounding them.

There was a gasp in the audience and then silence as the lone man without breaking a stride drew his sword and approached the stunned Dothraki Horde whom have barely made it out to the arena.

The suspense was palpable.
Most of the crowd was slackjawed and drawn into the dramatic battle to come as the outcome was now much more uncertain.

Prince Rhaegar and his entourage however, were not.
"Pyromancy..."
See Gerold stated
"Though not as our wisdoms practice it."
Rhaegar remarks as he watches the Black Knight stride towards his quarry.

The Clash began with a nick, the Knight's greatsword giving a nasty gash at the very edge of the swordsman's reach as the Dothraki began closing in and surrounding him like a pack of wolves.

It was death by a thousand cuts as the frenzied pack of Dothraki swung their Arakhs at full force from all sides at the lone combatant, causing him to recoil under the weight of the blows.

Recoil, but not go down. For every ten blows he suffered, he landed one in, grievously wounding one with his sword and for the moment, it would seem as if the man would succumb under the endless tide of blows.

The Crowd was getting restless as they began booing the Dothraki

"He won't last, tell the Aurochs to be ready."
"They've been ready for a while, just give the word Head Magister Thaeryx."
"Excellent, soon as his knee hits the ground, you have my permission."
"As you will."

However, never did the man's knee touch the ground despite the constant barrage of attacks. Immovable, unstoppable, unyielding, the sporadic fighting began to settle down into a rhythm of exchanges, a war of attrition both sides were convinced they would win.

As the fight stretched on, the crowd began cheering the name Arkan as the tide began to turn in favor of the lone combatant. Scratches turned to wounds, wounds to injuries, injuries to casualties, but no blade could scratch the man clad in steel.

The dead piled on, the crowd roared as the battle closed its climax with the Knight building up speed in his killing until there was none to slay.

A Champion was born, though he would bear no title.

- Niiro's perspective -
"Bakkalon's balls, he actually took down fifty fucking men by himself. I need to find out where he gets his gear."
He says as he's standing up clapping at the spectacle
"He's fucking madlad"
Syrys replies as he gives his applauds

- Royal perspective -
"That was quite a display of valor, you'll have to admit Ser Gerold."
Arthur Dayne says as he gives his applause
"His fighting is very plain, orthodox and rough."
"...but I can find no faults in his perseverance or his bravery."
Rhaegar sits in his cushioned chair uncomfortably, giving weak applause
"The man shows great chivalry, it is shame he has to do so in a charnel pit. Tell the Head Magister I'm pleased with the performance and I'd like to congratulate the man personally."
"As you wish my prince."

- Master Irro's perspective -
"Did you know he was a knight all this time Laharra?"
"No, no, I had no idea."
She says as she looks at the grim visage of the charnel pit made by the once handsome healer with a polite demeanor who often visited her store for bandages and string, now bearing the likeness of a wrathful slayer of men.
"Well, I can't exactly complain about him being a strong warrior, or being rich and famous for that matter."
He says giving a nudge to his daughter

- Family's perspective -
"Get some more heat on the oven, you pound that batter, you get me more eggs. We need to get as much work done as the festivities last!"

Technically, 'chivalry' just means 'being good at being a knight'.

To the church chivalry meant piety (and obeying the church, of course), to the knight's lord chivalry meant loyalty and being good at whatever the lord wanted you to do (including killing lots of people on the battle field). It's really only those with a very romantic view of chivalry who define it as the Arthurian ideal of 'the strong protecting the weak', 'egalitarianism', and 'honeraberu personal combat at all times'.

>>
>>4077269
Eh Dothraki are basically dogs. Chivalry is reserved for opponents worthy of it, or other knights who will return it in kind. If you look at history in Westeros there are only a few paragons of virtue who embody the "true" knightly ideal. For everyone else of note being a good knight just amounts to being good at combat so you can fight your Lord's wars and defend his holdings. It's not always about honourable single combat, sometimes you have to pour boiling oil on Loras's head to get the job done.

So even if we didn't defend an orphanage from 50 dothraki the point is we COULD have.
>>
>>4077539
More or less this, albeit in Westeros being a 'true knight' is a more entrenched ideal than then Arthurian ideals ever were.

As >>4078346 pointed out, the main thing really is that a knight who can't fight is a waste of resources. One that's worth fifty men and on foot no less, is worth quite a bit.

If we think this in terms of money, your skills today have proven that you'd be worth paying a salary of 50 levies.

This means if you were to be hired as a knight, you could expect a starting salary of 100ss per day or incomes of a land.
If it's on royal entourage, this could be easily a gold dragon a day on regular salary.

I think you can now see why some knights are fabulously wealthy and can afford to toss around their gear in tourney whoring.

Mercs in Essos are rarely so well paid, save in special occasions where their employer is either desperate or they are given particularly dangerous jobs, of which you no doubt will be getting your share of offers.

Perhaps it was the thundering roar of the crowds chanting your name, perhaps it was the refreshing feeling of standing toe to toe against such a clear and honest enemy.

Animals had no moral agency, criminals? Some of your best friends were lawbreakers and it's not as if yourself held much respect for the justice system of these lands.

The Dothraki however, they were men and they were born with the potential to be more than screaming barbarians, roaming at the grass seas, yet they choose not to. The horselords in your own history may not have left much of an inheritance, but the Mongols were no fools, they learned, adapted, overcame and forged one of the largest empires the world had ever seen.

These cretins however? What people in Earth could you even find so willfully ignorant and so insistent reveling in their own barbarism?

More importantly, why didn't they run? Heads of two of them literally exploded, none of their attacks had any meaningful effect on you whatsoever, yet they simply did the same thing over and over again.

Was there no fear gnawing at the back of their heads telling them they should yield? Did they want to die swinging their swords? Were they even able to disengage from melee once committed?

Fools, and now corpses.

You lifted your visor and gave a wave to the crowd as victorious combatant, jogging and jumping a few rounds around the lap with bounce on your step.

Reveling in the moment, you encouraged the audience to clap to you in the rhytm of Freddie Mercury, leaving the stage as the audience chanted "WE-WILL WE-WILL ROCK YOU!"

https://youtu.be/Wv0KwOEYKU4

In your wake, coin and flowers were being thrown into the arena en mass as the audience roared in approval of the spectacle.

As you returned to the waiting area for the fighters, you were greeted with applause by your fellow fighters and a freshly arrived band of armored men with tower shields with bull iconography.

Man with a breastplate shaped in form of a muscular torso and a helmet fashioned in likeness of a bull's head stepped forth.

"You got balls lad, the sort of balls we could use in the Aurochs. If you've got a taste for killing more Dothraki, we've got plenty of work for a lad like you."
"Well, that honestly depends on the sort of terms we're talking about."
"Come and see me at wrestler's den later if you're interested. I'll introduce you to our commander. My name is Lhuxar by the way."
He says offering a handshake
"Arkan"
"I'll hopefully see you later."

"Excuse me mister Arkan?"
The Scribe cut in
"Do you perchance need a physician's services?"
"I am a physician."
"It would be safer to have a look..."
You look around your plate, plenty of scratches, no dents.
"Looks fine to me."
"As you wish, the Head Magister worried about your health wished me to offer you a healer's services before coming to personally congratulate you."
"Well that's awfully nice of him. You can tell him his concern was unwarranted."
"I shall go get him now."
A very old looking man approached you with a smile on his face.
"Ah! Here's our the firebrand that's lit the crowd ablaze. I must thank you for your wonderful performance. I am Thaeryx, the Head Magister of this city, for the time being at least and you are Arkan."
"I am"
He paces around you taking a look at you
"How old are you Arkan?"
"Fifteen"
"So young! And so strong. I can see why the prince would want to poach you. He has asked to congratulate you personally, but I've lived long enough to know what that means."
You elect to not reply to the man in one way or another, instead giving him stoic silence
"There is work aplenty for a man of your caliber. Many a magister would happily be your patron, myself included. You'd need not leave your home or be constrained by the suffocating morals of the sunset kingdom, just something to think about."
He halts his pacing in front of you and extends his hand
"Let me shake your hand and formally congratulate you for your victory."
"Thank you Head Magister Thaeryx"
You say, giving him a firm handshake.
He gives you a smile.
"Go on then, the prince is waiting, try to be polite."

So what do we think of the princes offer? Despite the splash we just made I don't think we have much of a future as a sellsword or pit fighter. It takes too much time away from our goals of powered flight and mutagen magic. Having a patron in this city would be more useful in some ways compared to being a royal retainer because we could continue our experiments and doctoring.

It may also help to build connections with the weaver guild. All-metal or all-wood planes are pretty far up the tech tree and we will likely start with hot air balloons and wood-canvas biplanes. Assuming they are up for it the mechanized improvements we could make to the weaving industry would set us up to fund major projects without needing investors.

That being said we ARE just 15 years old, we could just as easily spend our youth building up more fame and fortune instead of burying ourselves in study like we did at the citadel in our previous life.
>>
>>4079197
Honestly, in the short term the deal might seem good to take, but I believe people want to eventually leave to join the Lannister expedition, it'll have greater benefits for us if we help Tywin's brother and even bring him back alive.
>>
>>4079197
The prince likely offers good coin in return for hampering our future efforts. I say we take the small financial loss of working as a merc (demo specialist should pay decently enough) and train our skills (combat, books and experiments). We cultivate a set of more or less loyal men while we wait for Gerions expedition, where we save his ass and spelunk Valyria for artefacts and mutagen research. Merc life gives us a band of men we can rely on (even better if they are our own founding band) and Gerion will open the doors to Lannister coffers. Should do nicely for our future projects.

>>4079244
This is a real good idea, ill support this general plan
>>
So as far as I remember Prince Rhaegar is one of less hooting-dickhole-ish members of his family; is that accurate?
>>
>>4079253
Aside the kidnapping, sure. Still wouldnt hitch my horse to the dynasty about to get fucked over in a civil war though. Especially when we might not be able to exit that relationship at our convenience.

Though I would not mind selling them doctoring services should we be in the area, unlikely as this will be. Good to keep Mannis' daughter in mind though. Curing Greyscale might pay.
>>
>>4079258
We could always prevent Dany's mother from dying of childbirth complications.
>>
>>4079265
We *could*, but to what end? Sticking our fingers into the "Kill them all" pie of Roberts wont end well imo.
>>
>>4079197
Could we make it clear to the Prince that we can only work for him for a limited period? Get out before it goes bad?
>>
Naturally a magister, even a soon to be former head magister of the city won't have enough coin to outbid the Iron Throne. There's a reason why they're often bought and paid for by powers that be, such as guilds and merchant princes.

Overall if you do want to actually focus on innovation or self-improvement, then the optimal outcome is to actually become a NEET. Just live off your winnings, hire private instructors and use your copious amount of free time to develop what you want.

You could also try and look for a patron who isn't interested in you because you can kill people as well, albeit that's kinda what you're famous for.
>>
>>4079273
How much did we win?
>>
>>4079278
I think around 10 000 ss worth of coin in total from tips, bets and fight money. Just so you know, for many peasants those earnings equate to about 47 years worth of honest plebbitry.
>>
Seems like getting involved with the royals would be interesting but more trouble than it's worth given our long terms goals. We'll have to think of a way to turn him down politely.

>>4079244
That's actually a pretty good idea. It would take decades of effort for us to put together an expedition willing to sail to Valyria so its much easier to just make a name for ourselves and hire onto Gerion's fleet. We could go one step further and build another Long Night that we could bring as a package deal.

>>4079253
Rhaegar seems kinda average and normal compared to other targs, he did go full retard over the whole Lyanna thing though. If we follow the normal timeline the real problem is Aerys the mad, Aerys was always a bit crazy but no more than the valyrian average. What sent him over the edge was the whole Duskendale debacle where they took him hostage and Tywin had to come bail him out. If Aerys had died there Rhaegar would have become the king and the war that ended his dynasty would have been somewhat less likely. Even Barristan Selmy regrets that it didn't happen that way.
>>
Ok so here's a list of various ideas that popped up in Discord about what you could possibly do after the contests.

1. Join a mercenary company and aim for branching off your own mercs.
2. Become a Neet and do science.
3. Locate Tower of Joy and deliver Lyanna to Robert for a Lordship
4. Try to take Bloodstone Mount and Blade style and create your independent barony.
5. Become a Vassal of someone other than Rhaegar by simply introducing yourself at their court.
6. Become an Adventurer and roam the world without direction.
7. Head to the Citadel and get some more links.
8. Become a Vassal of the Night's Watch
9. Start an Independent Colony North of the Wall
10. Marry the Weaver's daughter and help her father to take over the entire guild.
11. Chase down a merchant ship with a canoe and kill everyone aboard.
12. Attempt to start an independent Barony in the Dothraki Sea.

These are at least what I can remember off the top of my head.

Personal opinion: 1 into Gerion's expedition into either 4 or 12. Throw in performing 11 every so often for extra cash, maybe also to get a ship or two to bring to Gerion's expedition. Also performing 3 as well as being in the Harrenhal tourney.

Alternatively drop the pure-1 approach for a mix of it with 2 and 10 so we go to Valryia with as much training / inventions as possible.
>>
I think we should agree to work for Rhaegar for a time, like a year and a half so we have a strong backer when the tourney at Harrenhal comes so we can rake in the money, but still bail before the war to set up shop back in Essos.
After we bail I would think option 4 or option 12 would be the best calls.
With four we could begin to offer gunmercs to any city with enough coin, yet option twelve would give us effectively unlimited room to expand.

With twelve we should set up above the Lazar to give us a neighbor to trade with, and perhaps even a few troops to draw upon.
Plus it would give us a large supply of slaves to buy if we should so wish it.
>>
>>4079308
I thought the plan was to delve ancient ruins to find those magical mutagens? If we go to Westeros we sure as shit won't be able to do that. In order to actually go ruin delving, we do need to maintain our independence.

>>4079244
I always thought this was the plan to be honest though I forgot about the Gerion's expedition. We definitely do not want to pass that up. Delve ancient ruins. Do merc shit for pay and experience. Experiment on poor bastards.

>>
>>4080596
Hey man, I shave like once a week.
>>
Okay here's what I'm thinking. We definitely want to:

1. Explore valyrian ruins for fun/profit/magical knowledge
2. Use magic/alchemy/doctoring to turn ourselves into witcher captain america.
3. Achieve powered heavier than air flight.

For the first option Gerion Lannister's expedition to Valyria is the only such expedition that we know about until you get to Euron Greyjoy decades later. We would be well served to go with him, potentially making the expedition a success. So putting the other stuff on hold for now I think we should focus on that first. Gerion will set out in 11 years so we have that long to prepare. Ideally we would sharpen up our combat skills, get our maester-level doctor credentials recognized officially without having to become a maester again, and build up a cadre of trusted men with good gear and gunpowder weapons. We could also make another Long Night ship as our personal transport so we don't have to rely on anyone else.

Rhaegar's offer isn't actually a terrible idea in hindsight, joining the royal entourage would get us money, fame and potentially martial training if we can hang around with the kingsguard. Travelling around Westeros could also let us get in good with the Lannister's and Gerion's eventual expedition. On the other hand it may be hard to limit our service to a few years instead of being a royal retainer for life. Will have to see how that conversation goes.

We should also think about building up our industrial base for the production of aircraft later. The sooner we put those things into place and making money the more it will pay off in the long run. Baking is a dead end but we could improve metalworking, carpentry and weaving substantially to make parts for aircraft later. Marrying Laharra would be the easiest start but we could probably sway some of the other guild leaders just by demonstrating our knowledge, or just using technology to corner the market and render them obsolete if they resist.
>>
>>4080806
>2. Become a Neet and do science.
>10. Marry the Weaver's daughter and help her father to take over the entire guild.
>12. Attempt to start an independent Barony in the Dothraki Sea.

For a more long term goal we should start a family just to have people we can trust to carry out our plans when we are not around. Once we get back from Valyria we can go full science NEET and really grind away at our special projects. We also need lots of land as constructing a runway anywhere near an existing city would be quite difficult.

Of the options presented I think conquering land in the Dothraki Sea would be our best bet. North of the wall is a grim place and the bloodstones are too chaotic for my taste. The Dothraki Sea actually some of the best land in the world and is speculated to be the original birthplace of humanity. The only reason the empires of old aren't around anymore is the horde of unwashed barbarians squatting on that land. It would take a genocide to set up shop there but as we've already established no one cares about barbarians and they have nothing to match our steel and shot.
>>
>>4080807
While I agree with the first half of your proposal, the Stepstones are a far superior choice to a grassland patch in the ass end of nowhere. The logistics of the plan are horrible as we will have to defend trade routes against dothfugees.

On the flip side, we can get a contract or bounties to clear our pirates while we build up fortifications. After which we can take control of trade through the area. Massive cash for any project we desire and the usefulness of aircraft rises exponentially as well. This option becomes doubly likely if we can save Gerion and secure Lannister support for our "pirate cleansing" efforts.

As you were lead to the VIP gallery, you were instructed to leave your weapons behind. Apparently the Kingsguard were extremely touchy about that sort of stuff, about your armor they cared less.

"Remember, you are not to touch Prince Rhaegar or insult him in any way, be respectful and give a bow as we enter and not speak unless spoken to."

The man whom the Head Magister had arranged to be your chaperone was slowly beginning to try your patience, as if you needed any education in the customs and etiquette of Westerosi nobility.

Upon entering the Gallery, you saw the prince and his well armed and plentiful escorts in their fineries. Your entrance announced by the Prince's personal herald.
Immediately you proceeded to horrify your escort by addressing the prince directly and in Westerosi no less.

"Well met Prince Rhaegar, heir to the Iron Throne."
You said, in a loud and clear voice as you struck your gauntlet to your breastplate and gave a bow in accordance of proper etiquette.
"I can speak my native tongue, you need not speak common for my comfort." He replies in Valyrian
"Makes no difference to me Prince, I am proficient in both." You say as you swap languages.
"I hear you are Master Laemor's son. You must be proud to have preserved your traditions from Old Valyria itself. We have after all, lost so much since the Doom. It is good to see fragments of our legacy still remain."
You give a lazy eye to the Kingsguard. You've known greater civilizations than that of Valyria after all.
"I'm sure he would be honored of such words."
"As he should, though you are no baker."
"I was once."
He gives you a thin smile

"You fight with strength of many men, who trained you?"
"I sculpted this body myself, didn't exactly have masters-at-arms to teach me, during these fifteen years of existence."
"Your armor is on par with my Kingsguard, who made it?."
Little insulted by thar, you show the interior of your helmet which had an engraving in cursive saying
~Manufactured and Designed by Arkan~
"You made your own armor?"
"I make most of the stuff I own."
"Including the Alchemical fire?"
You shrug
"It is one of my hobbies."
"Have you ever ridden a horse?"
"I know how to ride, yes."
"Ever wielded a lance?"
You shrug
"I guess"
"How much do you know of the Seven Kingdoms?"
"Now that's a loaded question. I guess I'd have to say fair bit if you're not asking for specifics, I do speak the language after all."
"How did you learn to speak common?"
You sigh
"You've asked me six questions already, no offense, but is this going to take all day? I've still got like seven contests to win a championship in today, and I really would rather we did this another day."
"Just two more questions."
"Alright, I can do that much."
>>
"Are you working for anyone?"
He looks directly at your eyes as he asks this question. You shrug and give him the honest answer.
"I'm a self-employed freelance physician. I work whenever I feel like accepting commissions."
He stops for a moment, as if confused by the answer

"Last question. Would you like to come join the royal court in King's Landing as a Knight of the Realm? You would have your own parcel of crownlands and enjoy its incomes."

Joining the royal court for a least a few years isn't a bad idea, we can build up a bunch of wealth and connections that we can use later. On the other hand we have grand plans and we really don't want to tie ourselves down forever and/or get caught up in the impending targaryen civil war bullshit. That does assume we don't do anything to change the timeline however, like make sure Aerys dies and Rhaegar becomes king, or win the tournament at Harrenhall ourselves so Rhaegar can't go full retard. Lots of options there.

I think we should accept his offer (later) but make it clear to Rhaegar that this mystery man is something of a free spirit and we want to explore the world like Lomas Longstrider and Corlys Velaryon (both famous explorers). So while we are happy to join his court for now we will eventually want to leave and pursue other things. If he refuses our conditions or to give us time to think about it then we can simply decline.

Anons, unless we have confirmation from Rhaegar that we can quit when we want, this is a horrible choice. Theirs is a dynasty about to be shat on hard and we know it. Punishment for being an oathbreaker is either death or being sent to the wall.
You can ask to be released from your oath after the fact, but this isn't like a work contract or anything.

You would be oathbound to take up arms for his cause whenever he sends the call, which considering your talents and paycheck is obviously not going to be once in a blue moon.

Problem is that when you can do everything, there's rarely a time when your boss can't think of something for you to do. He could quite literally dispatch you to go and be a champion to a minor noble or a lord whom he favors, to go and kills some bandits, collect taxes or do whatever tasks he comes up with.

If you actually are a known oathbreaker, the only place where they don't care about that sort of shit is North of the Wall and in Pirate dens. Even Mercs will shun an oathbreaker.
>>
>>4081004
We do merc, save Gerion and take over the Stepstones. Initial Lannister gold into taxing the trade routes. More than enough gold to not only make an airplane but make an Airforce to firmly hold Stepstones trade. No reason to gimp ourselves at the start for suboptimal results.

It's not a death sentence, but it means you'd have to choose between fighting for the losing side in a civil war as a foreign blackguard or becoming an oathbreaker.

If you want to simply make money and maybe learn from the Kingsguard, this isn't a bad deal.
If you actually intend to betray Rhaegar and use it as a stepping stone in your political career in Westeros, better get used to being known as Ser Gregor of East.
>>
>>4080970
Revotting, probably don't want to go with the Prince if we're not going to support him totally, and he'd be massively underpaying for our skills.

Well when you put it that way our relative obscurity is all the more reason to stay in Lys for now. Even in general we're barely known for anything other than killing dothfugees. Only the gangsters, Laharra and a few beggars know that we can heal people. Rhaegar and the kingsguard might be the only people in the city who know that we're a smith. But as far as Rhaegar knows the only thing we've definitively proven so far is that we can speak westerosi and have the killing power of 50 men. He only has our word that we are a healer/master smith and knows nothing of our other talents like being a maester in all but name.

If possible I think we should try to part on good terms for now, but also drop a hint that we are a man of many talents and would be wasted as a simple hired gun. Then we can go with our original plan of combat training with a bit of science neet and industrial magnate mixed in. That way if we end up going to westeros in a few years it will be as a skilled mercenary and inventor instead of a simple pit fighter. A sort of Archimedes/DaVinci character who can build and fight in equal measure, that should be more than enough to earn a royal commission or a seat on Gerion's expedition.

>>
Let me give you a bit of a perspective here.

You have around 50 gold dragons in the bag right now.
Your skills as a healer, with the right commission could land you gigs that can earn you hundreds of gold or even a landed title like it did for Maesters of Oldtown.

Your skills as a Blacksmith, provided you could get right commission, would be able to allow you to put out arms and armor costing more than a castle.

If you actually finished Penicillin and got literally any lord as a partner in that business, you could easily make ten times that amount.

If you actually wanted to make a sponsored flying machine, you could easily make a name for yourself as an inventor in Westeros.

If you literally just got a rowing boat and boarded a spice merchant's ship, you probably would be able to kill everyone aboard and sell the ship and its contents at over two years wages as a knight in Rhaegar's service in the black market.
>>
>>4081290
In addition to this post from QM, I'm just gonna quote something from the discord that should help you understand this offer: something he literally just posted;

>"The offer was honestly there because, you know. It should be there. Not because it's necessarily a good offer considering your skills"

This isn't a good use of our time, our skills, our attention or anything else. We don't get payed enough, we don't get enough freedom (we'll have no admin position, be constantly on the road and CAN'T TAKE MAJOR PROJECTS) and we don't get enough fame from it. It's you swearing his sword to his service for foreseeable future in exchange for a steady income and a essentially a manor to live in when you're not working.

The actual job of a Knight involves going around your liege's lands doing whatever he requires of you. In case of the Targaryens, this territory stretches across the whole continent.

Unlike Kingsguard, you wouldn't be a glorified sentry. You would be an agent for the crown, going across the realm to enforce the Prince's agenda, meaning that yes, you would hardly be staying in one spot for too long as you would either be escorting or on dispatch as your day job.

"A knighthood? As honoured as I am for the offer, I do not aspire for such a thing. If you'd like to commission my services as a blacksmith or healer, I'd be happy to do some jobs for you, but these martial pursuits are at best a hobby for mine."
The Prince sighs disappointed
"That is a shame, there is no end for the crown's need for great warriors. There are many a good cause in need of a champion."
"I'm not a total bum, I do on occasion right some wrongs too. Just the other day I saved a damsel in distress and that ain't no lie."
He gives you a thin smile
"Well, I've said my piece. Congratulations on your victory Arkan."
He offers you a handshake
"You live a very strange and enviable life by your telling."
"Not gonna lie, it's pretty fucking great being me, at least when you're not being shot with crossbow bolts tipped in basilisk venom."
You say as you give him a firm handshake.
"You said you were competing on other contests as well?"
"Oh yea, I'm going to the strongman contest after this, javelin throwing after that, wrestling after that, rope climbing after that, swimming after that, archery after that and finishing the day with endurance running."

Arthur Dayne whistles
"And you intend to actually live through that?"
"Well I'm hoping to win in every sport, but truth be told, I know I'm not the greatest archer in the land."
"Well, best of luck."
"Thank you kindly."

After leaving the gallery the prince had a word with his Kingsguard whilst the menials cleaned up the mess you left in the arena.

"A very unique individual." The Prince remarks.
"What do you make of him?"
Ser Arthur shrugged
"For a fifteen year old, he seemed quite large and well educated. Certainly an odd man, but I cannot fault his prowess in battle."
"I think him a liar."
Ser Gerold replied
"A baker's son working as a physician who in his free time craps out black masterwork armor and alchemical fire, who in top of all that supposedly rescues damsels and fights hordes of Dothraki as a hobby?"
"Don't forget about the fact that claimed to know his way around a horse and lance, and all the other contests he intends to partake in today."
"Some men are born to defend and some who are born to be defended Ser Gerold. Men are not born equal, if you think him a liar, why not see for yourself if there is truth in his words?"
"My duty is to the Crown."
"Then perhaps I should tell the Head Magister that I wish to see more of these contests."

"Here's your prize money mister Arkan, great show by the way."

> Fight money for participating: 105ss
> Dothraki kills: 50*63=3150ss
> The Head Magister is pleased: 2100ss
> Your share of the tips: 1000ss
> Your winnings from betting on yourself: 4*1410= 5640ss
> Total money atm: 11 995ss

As the last was a fight to the death, betting on yourself was a given. In the following contests, this will not be the case.

Do you wish to bet on your victory in the coming strongman contest? In lieu of your triumph over Dothraki, you are recognized as a contender and you would stand to double any betted money presuming you were to bet on yourself and win.

We're a decent athlete but it's entirely possible for someone with a higher athletics / associated skills to beat us in these contests. Bets are therefore a fairly risky concept, especially since we're probably not going to get great odds to make it worth it.

>>
>Champ lifts 1000 pounds
>Silver, Bronze and you lift around 750 area

4th place.
Still, the reigning Weightlifting Champion did truly live up to his name and in the end isn't that all that matters? Go for gold or go home. Silver and Bronze are in the end just glorified participation trophies for lesser men. You gave it your all and it wasn't enough.

A man only hoists as much as he has trained to hoist, how much effort he has put into the hoisting. In the arena of fitness, there are those who want it and those who want it more. Strength and Passion go hand in hand to those who aim for gold.

Championship only has meaning when it is earned through sweat and blood. Gold medal nothing but a coin on a string when it is not worn by a Champion. Shine on champion you demigod of a man, for you have bested an immortal.

Alright, next contest!

And because swimming is one of those sports where it's just straight up race with no preliminaries or anything like that, only a whole bunch of people going for a swim, much like running mind you, there's only one roll.

Pretty shameful for the champ tho.

1st place. Arkan
2nd place. Trained Athlete 1
3rd place. Accomplished Athlete 1

Looks like you got silver on endurance run, also I stated the prize money wrong, it was apparently stated before to be half of what the Wrestlers and throwers get, which was the 20 gold joys for gold medal.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, you're only getting 1050ss from the swimming championship.
However, because I don't wanna take money from you, you're getting another 1050ss for the silver medal in the endurance run.
>>

>>
A gold, a silver, a tie for third and two runner ups. Not bad at all. We only failed to make it to the final round once and even then we at least proved that we have the strength to use a longbow. The fact that we participated in 7 events in a row without breaking a visible sweat is already going to be legendary, and that's AFTER the dothraki genocide we committed this morning.

>Congratulations! You are one of the most desired lowborn bachelors in the city.
I'm guessing there's gonna be a lot of partying and feasting now that the games are over? This would be a great time to ask Laharra for a dance before we get covered in thots and gold diggers.

>earned credibility for the slave breeding program whence your mother hailed from.
The what now?

>Your fame has made it impossible for the Baker's Guild to readily ostracize you anymore, but they aren't happy about it.
HA. As a wise man once said, don't get mad, get even. They're practically beneath our notice now, but lets dab on them by modernizing the weavers guild beyond their wildest dreams.

I know what we must do: breed thousands of woman and create a silver-haired army of super soldiers each with their own armor and weaponry.

>>
just an offhand comment, for a city full of intrigue and back stabbing i'm surprised no one got bonuses for cheating.

i guess the Lys really love their competitions
>>
>>4085592
Well, they'd be cheating nobility and royalty of a good show, slaves, and actual good men to hire. You do know what happens when a lower member of the social caste pisses off someone in the upper echelons of society, right?
>>
>>4085592
I mean there probably was a lot of behind the scenes cheating, bribes, and drug use to get events to go one way or another.
But even still cheating today like drug use is most likely encouraged, and if someone was attacked or keep from showing up for the contest not like we would hear about it.
We came out of no where and took the city by storm.

If we stick around for the next games we could get involved in the skulduggery.
>>
>>4085592
Kinda defeats the purpose of pleasing the crowds if the politician sponsoring the events if they don't take steps against that.

Ultimately, the money in these events was not so very tremendous as to invite great deal of cheating and on top of that, you killed 50 Dothraki solo.

That level of intimidation does help deter some overt cheating, especially since those people who hire assassins probably would be pissed at you if you got caught doing it.
Also, you weren't exactly rolling high enough to make people super nervous there.
>>
>>4086121
Should be pointed out that as doping hasn't been invented yet, it's not banned.

Major ways if cheating are basically poisoning or sabotaging your competition in these venues, but if your rivals suddenly got sick, it detracts from the victory.

In the end, yes, I could have thrown a lot of intrigue around these events, but I really didn't feel like such low tier plothook was necessary. Especially since you weren't even winning all that much.

Initially I had intended to make everyone in the contests get bonuses from spending fatigue, but overall because the stakes in these contests weren't even in hundreds of gold so I felt that overcomplicating matters to drag the contests out was unnecessary.
