The Lighthouse War is over, but conflict still continues.

With Erusea's defeat at the hands of the Osean Federation and the International United Nations, the imperial nation has splintered into a confusing mess of separatists, freedom fighters, warlords, rogue military factions, and those seeking to profit from the chaos. Worse, Erusea's many automated drone factories still remain intact, waiting for new masters to come to claim them.

The Usean continent remains in crisis, and it's up to a new generation of pilots to face this next generation threat...

You are MILLY, the "Red Tail", a Belkan Air Force pilot fighting for the IUN!

It didn't take long for you and Vicky to reach Fort Grays and report END's attempted ambush to Bandit and the authorities. Of course, the IUN was just going to "look into it", and that was the extent of it.

Still, at least you were back safe and sound. And at least it didn't look like END's Raven was fixed up yet. You weren't aware of any upcoming missions, so it seemed that your morning was free now.

You decide to go find Misono. Last you heard, she was in the hangar, so you make your way there.

Sure enough, you find Misono there, overseeing an... F-15? It definitely wasn't Bandit's. It wasn't in Belkan colors, and was sporting the large red circle that served as Misono's emblem. Did she get an upgrade?

Anyways, it looked like she was busy watching Mead doing her point by point inspection, and she hadn't realized you had arrived.

"Hey! Miso!" You call out as you approach her, gaining her attention. "Got a new bird, huh?"

"Indeeed I have!" Misono nods with a bright smile. "The F-2 was starting to wear out, and it was overdue for replacement anyways!"

"Still, an F-15 looks to be a real upgrade." You whistle. "Guess you caught the eye of the right people."

"I'm inclined to think my family had something to do with it." Misono sighs. "But still, I shall not look a gift horse in the mouth, is how they say it?"

"Yep." You nod.

"This is an F-15J, to be more precise!" Mead grunts in the distance. "A brand spanking new one, too! Wouldn't be surprised if it was cranked out in the Lighthouse fabrication plant!"

"Anyways, I heard you and Vicky had a rough time getting here." Misono says, turning the conversation to you. "Are you all right?"

"Really?" Misono blinks. "I don't think they could have confused the two of you."

"They didn't." You shake your head. "They were specifically gunning for Vicky. I think they figured she'd be easier to take our, or were trying to pressure me into making a mistake."

"That's quite concerning." Misono frowns. "Even without their Raven, END seems to show an ability to change up their tactics."

"Exactly." You nod, suddenly remembering that Karla was supposed to be looking into this.

"If I had to guess, Vicky is probably sulking in her quarters." You figure. "So that should be where we start!"

"Then let's go!" Misono nods in agreement.

With that, the two of you make your way over to the pilot barracks. By this point, you and Misono were a common enough sight around the base that your Belkan patches and Misono's sword didn't really draw that many curious stares any more. The whole base just continued on with their business.

It wasn't long until you reached the barracks and at the front of Vicky's room. However, as you and Misono approached the door, you could hear a muffled voice on the other side.

"What, he's gonna build one for you?" You gasp.

"C'mon, Vicky! We didn't mean to do it on purpose!" You sigh as you follow the obviously annoyed Vicky, who was stomping along towards the briefing room at brisk pace to stay ahead of you and Misono.

"Does Nordenvannic have cultural issues against personal contact?" Misono wonders.

Yeah, you and Misono got a bit drunk the other day, probably not helped by the jet lag from the long trip to Fort Grays, and you had both fallen asleep on top of Vicky. She was too polite and embarrassed to try and move or wake up the two of you, and was stuck in that awkward position for a few hours.

"All right, all right, we won't talk about it anymore." You concede, patting Vicky on the head.

"Hmph!" Vicky continues her brisk pace.

Misono can only smile and shrug at you as the three of you enter the briefing room.

Already, you can see Bandit ready and waiting. However, you do notice that none of the other squadrons were present, nor were any of the IUN officers. Was Bandit leading this briefing?

"Good to see you all here." Bandit nods as the three of you take a seat.

"Is something up?" You wonder out loud. "Why is it just us?"

"I've been communicating with our IUN higher ups." Bandit explains. "And while they are no position to commit resources to the hunt for END and their backers, they have agreed to allow us to pursue them independently."

"Like, we have actual freedom to operate?" You gasp.

"It seems our string of successes have given the higher ups a good impression." Bandit nods. "Plus a little lobbying from the government back home."

"That is great news and all." Misono nods. "But where do we even start?"

>Focus on the intel leak. We can follow it back to whoever is pulling the strings.
>END tried to jump us recently, so their sub still has to be in the area somewhere.

"Well, obviously, we should be focusing on the intel leak." You grunt. "Somebody's been leaking our movements to the enemy."

"It's not somebody, but something." Bandit scowls as he activates the briefing screen.

On screen, a map of Erusea began to render, and it also began to mark the positions and paths of several satellites passing over the continent.

"Thanks to some snooping from Karla and Jager, we've managed to determine that information is being leaked from this satellite which is handling IUN communications signals." He explains.

"What?" Vicky blurts. "But aren't satellite communications directional? How can you even intercept them without anybody noticing?"

"You don't need to worry about that if you can just grab all the data directly off of the satellite." Bandit grunts as he highlights one of the satellites on the map, codenamed TOWER-06. "In the aftermath of the Lighthouse War, everybody was in a hurry to get new satellites up into space, and for big organizations like the IUN, they were willing to lease them from private companies if they could."

The screen then zooms closer in to TOWER-06, which began to show technical details you didn't have the first clue in reading.

"It seems this particular satellite is owned by a Grunder shell company. There's a high likelihood that it's been secretly tapping into IUN communications and forwarding them to our mysterious opponents."

"Well, where is it forwarding them TO?" You wonder.

"Belkan Intelligence has tracked intermittent communications to a location in the middle of the sea. According to records and surveys, there's no known landmass or island in that location, so we're very likely dealing with a mobile communications ship."

"Maybe even their mobile base itself!" Misono smiles.

"Of course, our support will be limited." Bandit warns. "The Andersen can provide us transportation and resupply, but the IUN can't spare any naval assets to go out that far."

"So no naval recon, then." You mumble.

"It may very well be that we have to go in with force. A recon overflight might make them suspicious." Bandit continues.

"I say we go in hard and heavy." You declare, cracking your knuckles. "These assholes have been a pain in our butts since forever! It's time we take the fight to them, right?"

"It will certainly help disrupt their ability to predict our movements." Bandit agrees. "Again, though, we don't have any idea what sort of fleet composition the enemy will have. It will be best to be prepared for anything out there."

"So we're just going to charge in at them in broad daylight?" Vicky wonders.

"Ideally, we want to hit them during the next scheduled data uplink." Bandit explains. "Intelligence has been able to craft a rough schedule of when TOWER-06 beams down its data. It'll be then that we can pinpoint the exact location and home in on it."

"But won't it be easier for them to spot us?" Vicky bites her lip.

"There's also a storm front due to hit that area in two days." Bandit points to the screen, showing a large cloud formation moving south towards the mission area. "If concealment is the priority, we can use the storm as cover to inspect the area. However, that weather obviously is not ideal for satellite communications, so we won't be able to track the source that way."

Both Vicky and Misono shake their heads.

"Red, do you have any other concerns?" Bandit says as he turns his attention to you.

"Not really." You shrug.

"Good. Then you're all dismissed for now." Bandit says.

However, as Vicky and Misono stand up and file out of the room, Bandit moves forward and stops you.

Once you reach the mail room and show your ID, the mail clerk manning the desk slides forward a plastic bin filled to the brim with letters and mail.

Goddamn, how the hell were you gonna read all this?! Maybe Swallow could help you out there. You just take a quick glance at the senders. A lot seemed to be Belkan locals, but there more than a few Erusean addresses as well. And... from that Osean prison?!

Sheesh, that was pretty damn weird.

However, your attention was naturally drawn to the packages in the bin. The stickers slapped on them already indicated they had been screened for potential bombs, contraband, or other hazards, so you weren't too particularly concerned with opening them.

The largest package you open up turns out to be a leather jacket with a pair of crimson, flaming wings emblazoned on the back. You were completely caught flatfooted at the gift. The note included with the jacket seemed to be from one of the Osean prisoners. Apparently, your flying had impressed them during that whole operation over the 444th Airbase, and they all considered you their new gang boss.

So, you just happened to end up being a prison gang leader.

You... weren't sure what to think of that.

Heh, this was actually freaking awesome! You had your own little gang to worship you like their new outlaw queen! Maybe they could even be a little personal army down the line-

You're suddenly brought back to reality when the clerk coughs loudly. A not so subtle hint to just grab your mail and go open it somewhere else. Guess it was a recurring problem for people to just hog up the mail room like that.

You quickly grab the bin and make your way back to your quarters. You were probably going to have to spend all day reading this stuff!

You were DEFINITELY gonna need to get Swallow to help you out on this. Maybe even Vicky and Misono, too!

...on second thought, you should probably sort out all the prison letters, first. You had a bit of a bad feeling those weren't meant for innocent eyes.

You had earlier asked Vicky and Misono to help you out with the mail, but unfortunately, it looked like you hadn't quite screened out all of the "naughty" letters, or they were just very well disguised. Regardless, both Vicky and Misono had rather... awkward experiences.

Of course, Vicky was the most outwardly vocal. Even after the squadron had taken off for the recon mission, she was STILL in a huff about it.

"I mean, really, Red! How can they be so crass as to send pictures of their, er, well, their-"

"Penises." Misono mirthfully finishes for her.

"That's right! Whey would they send pictures of those to you!" Vicky huffs, totally indignant. "And many of them were even asking for pictures of you!"

"Well, it was kinda flattering." You reply."

"NAKED"! Vicky yells.

"Quite bold, I must admit." Misono adds. "Though, given their current state, I doubt they have much else to lose.

"All right everyone, focus." Bandit finally intervenes in the conversation. "The storm system is up ahead. I don't have to remind you that visibility is going to be impaired and the turbulence will make maneuvering difficult."

"Swordfish." Bandit instructs. "You're up with Red."

"O-okay!" Vicky complies as her Gripen gains altitude.

"Knives, are you doing okay?" Bandit asks as his Eagle forms up with Misono's.

"It's a bit heavier than I'm used to, but I can manage." Misono insists. "I'm quite experienced in maritime operations, you know."

"Just making sure." Bandit says as they both drop altitude closer to the roiling seas below. "Red, Swordfish, keep your eyes peeled."

"Roger!" You nod.

"So what's the plan, then?" Vicky asks, her tiny Gripen wobbling heavily in the high winds.

"Well..."

You take note of the surrounding conditions. If you stayed below the cloud cover, you'd be able to maintain some semblance of visual contact with Bandit and Misono. If something were to try to jump them, you'd have a better chance of spotting it.

Then again, going up higher into the cloud cover itself would give you much more concealment. It would give you a much better ambush position, though likewise make Bandit and Misono more vulnerable to ambush themselves.

Your Su-47 rumbles and rattles like a massage chair, but you manage to keep your plane stable enough that you manage to catch up to your target.

And then you finally get a clear look at it, and recognize it as an E-2 AWACS plane. Was it out here as an early warning system?

Suddenly, your radar starts flickering and bugging out as the E-2 banks away, heading deeper into the storm where the weather was more intense. You figure it had switched over to electronic warfare mode in an effort to shake you off.

"Red, it must have already sent a warning out!" Vicky yelps.

Very likely. That meant Bandit and Misono were sure to have company really soon.

You refuse to let this damn E-2 shake you. Even in this storm, it was still a big, slow target. Even if your missiles were jammed and visibility was near zero, you could still manage it with guns!

You try to line up your guns for a strafing run, but a sudden gust of wind buffets your Su-47, pushing your nose out of alignment and spoiling your aim.

Thankfully, Vicky is there to pick up the slack, letting loose a stream of tracers that punch into the E-2. The combination of the high winds and the bullet damage tears the entire right wing off, sending the plane hurtling down towards the sea below, though you lose sight of it in the clouds.

"Bandit, we just downed an early warning bird. They may know we're already here!" You warn on the radio. "What's your status?"

"No visual on any enemies yet." Bandit replies, his voice warped and distorted by static.

"It's odd that we managed to catch this E-2 alone." Vicky murmurs. "Maybe we accidentally slipped past its escorts?"

That was a distinct possibility. This storm was messing with their detection capability as much as it was affecting yours. However, that gave the unsettling idea that there were more planes in this storm that you could accidentally stumble on. Or worse, stumble on you.

However, that was easier said than done. You got lucky Vicky caught sight of that E-2 when she did. However, its escorts for sure had to know you were up here in the storm as well. It was all going to be a matter of who spotted who first...

Suddenly, a pair of contacts briefly flicker on your radar, just long enough for you to notice. You quickly bank your Su-47 in that direction.

"I think we got something, Swordfish!" You exclaim.

"I see them on radar, too!" Vicky affirms. "Do we jump them or tail them? They might lead us to the rest of them!"

Hm, Vicky did have a point there. However, the longer you left them up, the more chances they'd have to spot you and respond.

Unfortunately, the intermittent contacts on your radar screen suddenly change direction, as they were now heading back directly towards you! Damn, they must have realized you were there!

"Shit, Swordfish, we've been made!" You grunt.

"I-I see that!" Vicky stammers. "If we stay to engage, we might get surrounded!"

"Yeah, well, if we just run away nothing will stop them from jumping Bandit and Misono." You point out.

"R-right!" Vicky says with reluctant agreement as her Gripen forms up with your Su-47 as best as it can.

Up ahead, your two contacts finally begin to come in visual range, and you grimace. It was a pair of SU-57s. Pretty high grade planes, and you had a feeling they weren't drone controlled. And just like your Su-47, they were pretty much designed to knife fight.

This skirmish may turn out be just a little tough.

You unleash a hail of bullets at your target, punching right through the cockpit before he has any time to react. The lead Su-57 nosedives out of control and you hit your rudder pedal to pull your nose in line with the second Su-57.

Vicky lets off her own gun burst, but it goes wide, giving the surviving Su-57 and opportunity to retaliate. You can see cannon rounds sparking as they tear holes into Vicky's tail fin, but you're able to knock out the Su-57 with a second burst, landing your shells right into the center of the fuselage. The Su-57 drops sharply, breaking up into pieces as it goes.

"Are you all right, Swordfish?" You ask.

"Y-yeah! Just some minor tail damage, I think!" Vicky stammers.

Maybe not so minor. You could see the top of Vicky's tail fin vibrating and flapping rapidly like a piece of paper in the wind. That looked a bit concerning.

"All right, let's regroup with the others." You grimace. "No point mucking about in the clouds up here.

"Y-yeah, I'm starting to feel a bit sick from all this shaking." Vicky gulps.

"Bandit, me and Swordfish just splashed two Su-57s up here." You announce. "You having any luck?"

"Negative." Bandit replies. "We haven't found anything just yet, but the fact you've run into hostiles means we're in the right place."

"Yeah, but that means they also know we're in the area now." You point out. "If that uplink is mobile, then they already might be moving their asses."

"I know, but they shouldn't be able to move quickly in these rough seas." Bandit says. "But it looks like we're going to need some extra eyes to help us out on this one."

"Roger that."

Finally, both you and Vicky drop below the clouds and could see the stormy sea below. Huge waves the size of large houses rolled along the surface, and you find it hard to believe there would be anything floating out there.

However, you came too far to give up now. You squint as you try to pick out anything unusual in the dark and roiling sea.

You turn your head in that direction just as a bolt of lighting shoots past, briefly illuminating the silhouette of a massive ship.

You pause as you see the ship, easily the size of a large freighter, pushing its way through the waves with its sheer bulk. Atop its deck, you could see multiple massive satellite dishes jutting upwards towards the sky like giant steel flowers.

And there it was, one giant ass satellite uplink ship just floating there in the middle of the see. Looks like your former comrades had access to some pretty heavy duty resources if they could get their hands on something like that.

Regardless, that thing was your target, and naturally, it was pretty heavily defended. Already, you could see at least four frigates, two destroyers, and an Aegis cruiser in formation around the uplink ship. Or at least, attempting to stay in formation as best as the storm would allow them to.

"I found the uplink ship!" You report over the radio. "It's a big one!"

"Hold position until we can link up with you!" Bandit orders.

True, it was just Vicky and you against a heavy naval escort, but they haven't quite realized you were present yet. You'd have the element of surprise if you struck now!

"Sorry Boss, but I can't pass this one up!" You grin as you bank in towards the naval formation.

"Red! Red!" Bandit yells, but you're already committed.

"R-Red!" Vicky yelps.

"Swordfish, you've got antiship missiles packed, right?" You ask her.

"Y-yes!" Vicky affirms.

You glance at the formation again. The uplink ship was a very large and slow target, but it was going to be under the umbrella of that Aegis cruiser, which was a dedicated anti-aircraft and missile defense ship. The frigates and destroyers were farther out as pickets, meaning they'd be more vulnerable to a surprise attack.

"That's not funny!"

Seconds later, the Aegis cruiser seems to light up like fireworks show as CWIS turrets spit columns of tracers in the air in an effort to ward you away. However, it's too late, and you're already closing in for the kill.

Guns wouldn't be enough on a target this large, so you'd have to use missiles for this.

"YOU ARE BEING TARGET LOCKED BY THE AEGIS SYSTEM." Swallow warns rather unhelpfully.

"Yeah! I know!" You grunt as you roll away from another stream of tracers.

You fire off a pair of missiles, but the Aegis radar is already up and running. The CWIS turrets immediately switch targets, tracking the missiles you fired instead of your plane. Both your missiles explode harmlessly in midair as you pass over the Aegis cruiser, which was still operational.

"I got a hit!" Vicky whoops as a large fireball flashes in the uplink ship's side.

Sure enough, the uplink sink had taken a directed hit in the center of its port side. Fires were raging on the deck as the massive ship began to list, but it wasn't completely sunk. Meanwhile, the shock of the initial attack was starting to wear off and the escorts were starting to consolidate, their anti-air fire becoming heavier and more focused.

On your radar, you could see Bandit and Misono had just arrived for the fun, as well.

You were half tempted to just take the chance to bug out. That Aegis cruiser was still seriously bad news, and the escorts around it were only going to add to its defensive firepower.

Both you and Bandit fly over the fleet, and they take the bait. Immediately, your radar lock warning screams in yours ears.

"WARNING. MULTIPLE TARGET LOCKS DETECTED." Swallow also screams in your ears.

"Yeah, I kinda know that already!" You grunt, getting ready to undertake some seriously difficult maneuvering.

It was close, way too fucking close as you roll and weave your Su-47 through the storm of rain and bullets and missiles. Your canopy view is nothing but tracers and smoke trails as you maneuver wildly, your head literally spinning.

For brief seconds, you catch glimpses of Bandit's F-15 banking and weaving as well, dropping copious amounts of chaff and flares to further confuse enemy missiles and radar.

But it looked at least the storm was helping you out a bit here. The heavy cloud cover, the high winds, and the roiling seas weren't doing the escorts any favors either, and more than one missile or AA gun was knocked out of alignment by a stray gust of wind or rogue wave.

Suddenly, there's another bright orange fireball as Vicky and Misono's planes pass over the uplink ship.

"Solid hit! Solid hit!" Vicky reports.

"It looks like the ship is capsizing!" Misono says happily.

Sure enough, the uplink ship's listing was getting even worse, now practically at a 90 degree angle as the flooding gets further out of control. All it takes is a heavy wave to act as one final push, and the entire ship flips over. There was no way it was recovering from that.

"All right, mission complete!" Bandit's F-15 then hits afterburners to boost out of the fleet's range. "It's time to disengage."

"WARNING, AERIAL CONTACTS DETECTED." Swallow warns.

Sure enough, your radar screen was showing aerial contacts, an entire squadron, bearing down on your position. Looks like the aerial patrols have finally gotten their shit together. Unfortunately, they were all positioned to cut off the most direct line of escape.

"W-we're cut off!" Vicky yelps.

"We can fight our way through them!" Misono says confidently.

"We're not here to get dragged into more fighting." Bandit scowls. "We may have to shake them deeper in the storm."

"That's suicide!" Vicky gasps.

"Not if you know what you're doing." Bandit says calmly.

"All right, Boss, we'll follow your lead!" You decide.

"Stay as close as you can. It can get rough in there!" Bandit warns.

"Aaaaaaah, we're all gonna die!" Vicky cries.

"It will at least be a glorious death!" Misono laughs.

Up ahead, all you could see was a solid wall of black clouds and lightning. This was going to be... really rough.

The moment your Su-47 hits the storm wall, your entire plane shakes and rattles like you've never felt before, as if the entire craft itself was trying to come apart. The lightning and thunder are so frequent it was like trying to stare in a strobe light, and it was almost impossible to keep track of Bandit.

Suddenly, there's a bright flash and the next thing you know, you're getting the feeling that you're plummeting.

You glance at your control panel and your heart stops when you realize your entire cockpit is dark. Did that lightning strike short out your electronics?!

Suddenly, your screens in instruments flicker back on as the systems reboot and you pull up on your stick, regaining some form of stability. However, you've lost complete track of the rest of the squadron.

"Boss, anyone, can you hear me" You call out on the radio.

"D-M----E-A EX----V. COMM----- OFF--NE." Swallow warbles.

Guess your radio was out of the question for now .

Suddenly, you see a dark shape zoom by. A bolt of lightning casts a silhouette of an F-22 across your canopy and you could already guess who would be batshit crazy enough to chase you into this damn storm.

END seemed to have been able to keep pace with you and was now trying to get an angle of attack on you. Seriously? Now of all times?!

Well shit, if END wanted another fight, well, they were going to get one! You roll your Su-47 despite being buffeted by the high winds and try to get a bead on them. Between the storm and your fried electronics, missiles probably weren't going to do much good right now so you were focusing on getting a good line for guns...

Your heart races as bullets riddle the F-22, creating long trials of flame and smoke. It was nice to get some damage in!

However, END then does something even you don't expect.

They fly even DEEPER into the storm. Damn near close to the center of it, where the wind and lightning was even more intense than it was here! Were they desperate? Trying to lure you into an even more hazardous environment?

Flying into the storm could mean one of two things: It's just his typical trap play or they may have a flying carrier or something hiding in the storm...

You decide it's better off not taking the bait, turning away and taking the chance to disengage. You were already having trouble keep your plane steady in this weather. You weren't about to fly into even worse conditions.

Fortunately, you don't encounter any pursuit. Nobody else seemed crazy to chase you into the storm, and END seemed to have suffered enough damage to discourage further battle. Soon enough you finally manage to clear the storm system and finally see actual daylight.

"Red!"

You see Vicky's Gripen zip by.

"You're okay!"

"Of course I am!" You say proudly.

"Not completely unscathed, though." Bandit notes. "Lightning strike?"

"Yeah, you know how it is." You nod. It's just now that you notice a large scorch mark snaking its way up your right wing. Man, that looked like a nasty hit.

"We were afraid that the storm had brought you down, or worse!" Misono says with relief. "I'm glad that we were wrong!"

"Anyways, good job, girls. Without that uplink ship, the enemy's ability to spy on our movements has been greatly hampered." Bandit says proudly. "Let's head back to base and figure out our next move."

For once, you weren't about to argue.

>And that's it for tonight! Unfortunately, I will have plans on Friday, so we'll have to start the next thread on Saturday instead!
