Self-destruct is the fastest and most efficient path to victory.

Initiating.


Before Alina can decide on a course of action the Spartoi dash forward to self-destruct.
The enemy undead react the very instant the Spartoi become visible. Two halberdiers engage the two Spartoi, blocking their way.
Detonating either Sparta or Syracuse now will destroy both halberdiers, one Spartoi can tell when another is about to explode and Defend to minimize friendly fire.

Skeleton Wizard casts Bear's Endurance on Halberdier(A)
Alina casts Immunity to Weapons[Halberd] on Syracuse.

Syracuse charges in, he passes two guards, each viciously strikes him with their halberd but the blade bounces harmlessly off his ribs.
He reaches the Wizard and Power Attacks for 8 damage. He's unarmoured, but his natural skeltal resistance to bladed weapons protects him a bit.

Alina tries to cast Immunity to Weapons on Sparta, but it fails.
Alina: "Augh! Two at once is too hard to maintain!"

Halberdier(A) tries to Called Shot Sparta but is Counter Attacked! for 15 damage.
Skeleton Wizard casts Transform Weapon on Halberdier(A), transforming his halberd into a maul. (His name is still "Halberdier" though)

Halberdier(C) moves to protect the wizard.
Halberdier(B) moves to Sparta (the skeleton warrior, not the city-state)

Syracuse is in combat with wizard and Halberdier(C)

Syracuse detonates with a flash of light, damaging both the wizard and Halb C for 50 damage. They are both anihilated by the blast.
All the Spartoi are dead except Sparta.

Alina fires a Holy Arrow at Halberdier(A) hitting him for 32 damage.
The Scarlet Bow's extra arrows hit for 2 and 3 damage.
The last Spartoi tries to smash Halberdier(A)'s skull but is blocked.
Halberdier(A) smashes Sparta with his maul for 15 damage
Halberdier(B) Power Attacks but Sparta deflects the attack.

Alina fires another Holy Arrow, hitting Halberdier(A) right in the skull. The skeletal warrior takes 38 damage and explodes in a burst of light.
Halberdiers B and D freeze for a split-second like a machine that's been switched off.
Suddenly Halberdier(D) dashes to the lever and start bashing it aggressively with his Halberd. A huge mettalic clang ringing out with every strike.
Halberdier(B) manoevres to ensure he's between Alina and Halberdier(D) with his halberd ready and Defends.

Sparta sprints and dives for the lever.
Halberdier(B) spins around and brings down his halberd on the lever.
At the same time Halberdier(D) fiercely slams down his weapon on the lever.
Sparta is too slow. The blades crash down on the mechanism... and deflect off harmlessly!
Alina: "Immunity to Weapons! You can't damage that mechanism!"
Sparta grabs the lever with his two skeletal hands and heaves it. The heavy whirring of metal gears rings out from under the floor.
Sparta smashes the lever at the base with his mace, nothing can pull it anymore.
The two bronze clad skeletons try in vain to smash the round part of the lever but it proves to be completely impervious now.
They both bolt out of the room as fast as they can, they've lost.

Mechanism active, gate opening.
Objective complete.
Returning to commander.

Shawel casts Icewall again. Two of the shots get through hitting Shawel and yourself once. For 10 and 11 damage.
You cast Shield on Shawel.

She stands at the front making herself a target and raises a third Icewall.
Four missiles shatter the wall and a fifth break through striking her for 0 damage.
You cast Shield on Ulric.
Ulric: "Thanks Christof."
Ulric closes one eye and raises his thumb at the attackers and casts Fireball.
They duck behind cover as it explodes against the wall.
Ulric: "Damn, they've got protection too."
You cast Shield on yourself.
Shawel: "Now they cannot hurt us?"
You try to cast Shield on the raft, although you suspected in would be too large of an inanimate object surprisingly it works.
>"No, not with Magic Missiles anyway."
The Magic Missilers continue shooting at you nonetheless, the luminous bolts harmlessly dispersing against you.
Ulric: "Now that I think about it, they're kind of pretty."
Shawel: "The archers we fought earlier stopped shooting when they weren't doing any damage. Why are these ones still attacking?"
Ulric: "Maybe it's they have unlimited ammo?"
The raft suddenly violently shakes and starts turning onto its side.
Green tentacles are wrapped around the boat! It's tipping you over!
Shawel: "A marine monster!"
Reacting quickly Shawel casts Water Breathing on you.

The three of you jump on and run to the wall side of the shore.
The raft is pulled into the depths and the tentacles start reaching towards you on the ground.

You break into a sprint. You've already closed most the distance by water, it should be just around the corner.
The tentacles retract under the surface and the dark shape of the creature starts gaining on you FAST.
Shawel casts Control Water on the river, creating a strong current, but the creature is still gaining on you.
Magic Missiles continue to rain from the sky, harmlessly deflecting of your Shields.

You cast Magic Missile on the creatura, the glowing dart of energy smacks it for 12 damage.
It slows down a little.
Shawel: "It's too fast, I'll distract it. I'll catch up to you later!"
Before you can even process the statement she dives into the water with the tentacled creature.
Ulric takes a sudden stop, you screech to a stop as well.
Ulric: "We can't just leave him!"

Ulric: "ahaha what?"

Ulric continues his sprint, and you do to, only taking a single look back to see the unusual rippling of water and thrashing tentacles above the surface.
Ulric: "Look! It's the gate!"
100 paces before you is the Northern Gate, the portcullis is still firmly shut. Standing outside is a skeleton wearing the (old-fashioned) attire of a spellcaster.

The skeleton casts Summon Monster V, flames burst out at his side and grow and shape into a Fire Elemental.
Ulric: "This guy must of summoned that tentacle thing. If we kill him his summons vanish, right?"

Ulric: "Good or not, we can take him!"

You successfully cast Dismissal on the Fire Elemental, it shrinks into nothingness as its elemental flames are dismissed back to the fiery dimension it came from.
The Skeleton Wizard snaps around and starts running away.
Ulric casts Fireball on him enveloping it on fire and knocking it down.
Just as soon as he picks himself up he gets fireballed again and explodes, his bones flying everywhere.
Ulric: "Wow, that was really easy."
Ulric touches your arm with healing light and heals you for 11 hp.

Looking back at the river you see Shawel swimming at high speeds, carried by a strong current.
She climbs out of the water and approaches you.
Ulric: "Did you kill the tentacle thing?"
Shawel: "No, it caught me and tried to drown me but I had water breathing, but it suddenly vanished a little while ago."
>"That summoner must of dismissed it so he could protect himself with a new Summon. Either that or it vanished when he got destroyed."
Shawel: "Then I thank you for your assistance."
Ulric: "Nah Shawel, *you're* the assister!"
Shawel: "You flatter me."

You hear heavy gears clanking behind you, the portcullis is opening.

You rush in, although the gate remains fully open behind you.

You take a moment to take in the eerie empty streets, a pale brick buildings.
There's nothing alive in these streets, not even a weed or bit of moss.
Ulric: "So where do we find Alina?"

You take a half step back and cast Dispel Magic on her.
In a flash her appearance changes to that of a skeleton. It's holding a dagger behind it's back!
It's arm snaps forward driving the dagger to your neck but you grab both of its arms.
It struggles hard to push the balde towards you, staring at you with its empty eyes.
Ulric: "She turned into a skeleton!!"
Shawel: "It already was a skeleton it was just disguised as Alina."

Ulric slashes through the wouldbe assassin's spine and it collapses into a pile of bones.
Ulric: "Aha, sorry."
Shawel: "The undead can speak?"

Could be the case, you don't know too much about Illusions but you assume they would at least have to have heard Alina's voice before imitating it.


You walk up to the bronze door of the tower next to you. Looks like a good vantage point.
You smash the door as hard as you can with a resounding bang. The door is barred from the other side. There's a slight indentation from your hammer but otherwise it remains standing.

You have know idea how to "activate" this thing.
You could try shouting "Activate", or immersing it in magefire or smashing it against the ground. But if it can only be used once it will be wasted.
It's definitely not a normal figurine though. Shawel can sense magic and she says it's filled with otherworldly magical power.

This building used to be a shop? It's got a counter and backroom. There's a bunch of old glass bottles lying around. Their contents long evaporated.
The only way in is through the front door and a small side window. Not a great view for spotting people while you wait.

You crack up some magefire and start shooting magic missiles through the bars as fast as you can.
The first smashes the wizard right in the head, bobbing it forward. Without flinching the skeleton steps into the blue circle and waves of light start eminating from its perimeter.

Shawel casts Water Whip pulling him off the circle and right up to the bars. She grabs him by the neckbone and holds him against the bars, suspended a bit above the floor.
A few point blank Magic Missiles smash the back of its skull, Shawel drops the remains on the floor.

Reconnecting with Alina is the priority, shouting is dumb, and I don't want those brass bars mocking us. It hurts our feelings.

You look around quick for another tall building. You spot one with a large metal framed window facing the city wall. The door is missing so you dash inside.
You jog up a spiral staircase and step up to the observation window. Scanning the wall you spot Alina's green garb scuttling down the side of the wall. Rappeling by her side appears to be one of the Spartoi. Bonus!. A bunch of skeletal guards are waiting on top almost all available landing zones for her. Two archers are shooting at her although she seems to be mostly protected by her Abjuration magic.
An unusual looking enemy stands a top a narrow bridge, wearing Mercury Armour and a Golden 2-handed sword.

My instinct is to Message Alina, make a plan, provide fire support, group up, ????, Get the Wish Granter.
But I think Message uses Transmutation, with a big fail chance. Failing to cast or reading from the book might give the skellies too much time.
I don't have a better plan though.

You hesitate a moment, you're not well practiced in Transmutation but it could be useful right now. With the Potion of Sorcery you must have a decent chance of pulling of a low level spell.
"Should I Message Alina or use Feather Fall in case she falls?"
She does have the Magic Climbing Gloves, she'll probably stick to the wall even if she gets hurt. You decide to try and cast Message on her.

Alina and her Spartoi, drop down onto a roof top and drop from the edge onto a narrow bridge. The warrior clad in Mercury armour advances towards them slowly.
Sparta and Alina run away, into the building on the left.
Ulric: "That boss skeleton is chasing them!"
Shawel: "We know where she is now, She will probably try to head down."

Send shawl and ulric to help while we cast protection from bladed weapons on alina and I provide fire support. Then go after shawl and ulric when alina and the merc zombie is out of sight

Ulric: "Gotcha."
Ulric tries to cast Fireball.
His Bra of Incineration lets him cast Fireball as if he had 100 Evocation.
But the Mercury Zombie has 20 Magic Resistance, and is in the area Ulric is targetting.
He's only got a 50% of successfully casting.

Ulric casts successfully, from the look on his face it seems like he wasn't even aware his spell might of failed to cast.
A fiery explosion engulfs the Mercury Zombie, scorching him for 30 damage.
The zombie freezes and rotates its head to stare right at you. Then it returns its gaze forward.
After a few seconds you prepare to take the stairs down but Alina reappears on the bridge!
Alina is looking around to find out where the Fireball came from.
The Spartoi is about to engage the zombie.
Shawel: "They're too far away, my spells can't reach them."

You cast on Protection from Weapons[Hacking] on Sparta. He briefly glows with protective energy.
Merc Zomb delivers a heavy blow with his greatsword, bashing past Sparta's shield and hacking his spine for 0 damage.
A crossbow bolt flies from a nearby rooftop hitting Alina for 4 damage.
You shout out

Ulric: "ALINAAAAA"
She looks around even faster and quickly zeroes in on you. Spotting you through the window.
Alina: "CHRISTOF! I'M HERE!"
Merc Zomb sweeps Sparta's legs with his sword, not harming him but knocking him off the bridge.
The Spartoi catches the ledge with his right hand but drops his mace.
Merc Zomb advances past Sparta right up to Alina as he dangles from the bridge, raising his weapon to attack.
Ulric: "Ice Wall him! Quick!"
Shawel: "It's too far. I can't."

Ulric and Shawel nod and dash down the stairs.
You ditch the Protection from Weapons effect on the Spartoi and cast the spell again on Alina.
The zombie thrusts the sword into her belly for 0 damage. Then it drops the sword and grabs her by the forearms and starts trying to wrestle her off the edge.
You cast Magic Missile, the glowing magical bolt sails around Alina and hits the enemy in the side of the head for 12 damage. Other than its head bobbing from the impact, it doesn't react to the blow.

The Zombie pushes Alina to the edge and wrestles her with all of its undead strength.

The Zombie's unholy strength is immense. But has no finesse whatsoever.
Alina manages to turn the bumbling Zombies momentum. Flinging the undead over the edge with its own force.
2.47 seconds later you hear the sound of zombie splattering on the ground.
The Skeletons on the rooftops slink away out of sight, seemingly withdrawing from the battle.
Alina waves her arms at you.
Alina: "HEEEEEEY, WE WON!"
The Spartoi manages to scramble up onto the bridge, it picks up the discarded greatsword.

(It's Mercury Armour, as strong as Bronze, but gives Magic Resistance.
A few warriors wearing this kind of equipment can protect a whole squadron from area of effect magic.
The bucket helmet with two eye holes with Mercury Armour is common gear for Catarian mercenaries, like your late ally Godor. The armour is probably badly damaged from its fall.)

Ulric: "I'm glad you're alright."
Shawel: "Well done on your mission."

You exchanging your stories you see something out the window. Another Flare has a appears in the sky across the city, same place as last time.
