The Grand Anomaly: An event that cut the human population down to a couple hundred thousand, ravaged the lands, and made living a constant struggle no matter where you are.

It started with a sound, which many report as a loud screech. A wild storm formed, acid rain dropped, a hurricane ravaged the planet destroying everything and everyone. Was it an act of God? The misdeed of foolish scientists? An unfortunate natural phenomena? Maybe one day that mystery will be solved.

For now, however, you must guide one person through the wastelands. It will be no easy task. It is a world of absurdity where women are treated as cattle, men live off of cheap thrills, and gang violence makes life harder than it already is for regular folk.

You will guide a small girl who was protected from the true horrors of the world by her guardians. Whether she will broken down, became as bloodthirsty as the rest of them, or find a third option is up to you.

But, well, that's all you need to know for now. This girl needs a name first and foremost. What will it be?

Voting closes in one hour.

Your name is Char Rotfeld. You let your friends call you Rotty, though!

For much of your life, you were taken care of by the Desert Divas, a drag queen group that profits off men desperate for a taste of the scarce women. The Great Anomaly affected women worst of all. For every 200 men, there is a single woman, most of whom have been captured by warlords.

That’s what Lexy Fifi—your father and leader of the Divas—says makes you so special. Well, his real name is Freddy Rotfeld but he likes to be thought of as a performer first. You love him a bunch, he taught you everything you know about spearmanship!

That’s not all, though. You were always noted as being unusually powerful for a girl, most likely due to a mutation of some sort.

Note: All Stats are 3 at base and cap at 10. You have 7 points to spare. 5 is about what an average man is capable of. This /qst/ does not use rolls so consider these references for what you are capable of doing in the world. You will receive a more detailed description of what you can do with whatever amount of a stat you invested in once allocation is complete.

Strength: Denotes the strength with which you are capable of using melee weapons, as well as your endurance.
Intelligence: Informs your logical thinking and learning abilities. Most important for your ability to craft items, use gadgets, fix gear, etc.
Agility: Your movement speed and how fast you can get hits in.
Charisma: How well you can persuade others through speech.
Wisdom: Exception that starts at 2. How much you understand the world around you. Useful for detecting liars and understanding the consequences an action may bring.

A build will be chosen at random if suggestions are tied.

Barbarian Build:
STR: 8: Power of this kind is reserved only for top level bodybuilders. You can pierce people with your spear like butter.
INT: 3 You're not a complete idiot but planning is difficult for you. You're not much good at learning, either. You'll need someone to take care of the thinking for you.
AGI: 8 The speed of a top sprinter. Few people can keep up with you and you can move at lightning fast speeds in combat. Your dexterity is nothing to be scoffed at.
CHR: 3 You have a hard time articulating your desires so you won’t be capable of much arguing nor negotiation. Winning people to help you will be difficult so don’t expect to hold onto many crew members.
WIS: 2 You are trusting to a fault. Nothing short of a man coming at you with a weapon is suspicious. You won’t be able to detect anyone who isn’t a clear threat to you at the moment. Quest givers can easily deceive you, men may exploit you, and finding loyal friends will be difficult.

>>4141511
Sensible Brute Build:
STR: 6 You are above average in terms of strength, same as a man who goes to the gym. You’re not absurdly powerful but you’re above most people in the wasteland who aren’t constantly fighting.
INT: 3 You're not a complete idiot but planning is difficult for you. You're not much good at learning, either. You'll need someone to take care of the thinking for you.
AGI: 5 Average speed.
CHR: 4 You have trouble convincing people of what you want through words, but you will be able to talk yourself out of situations where you may be getting the short end of the stick. You will be able to recruit people through money or if they are already predisposed to aiding you. Convincing anyone else will be difficult, however.
WIS: 6 Years of reading and lectures have stuck in your mind. You can detect those who don’t have your best interests in mind and can tell if someone is trying to screw you over, regardless of how they sugarcoat it.

Sensible Brute Build (+1 int):
STR: 6 You are above average in terms of strength, same as a man who goes to the gym. You’re not absurdly powerful but you’re above most people in the wasteland who aren’t constantly fighting.
INT: 4 You can do simple repairs to basic gear and can make simple plans. Don’t expect to outwit people very much outside of combat, you’re not too clever, though you can take care of yourself.
AGI: 5 Average speed.
CHR: 4 You have trouble convincing people of what you want through words, but you will be able to talk yourself out of situations where you may be getting the short end of the stick. WIS: 5 You can detect those who clearly don’t have your best interests at heart. People who masquerade their intentions with kindness or some other subterfuge will be hard for you to detect, though you are pretty well off for such an isolated girl.

You can gain stat points by completing major quests, whereas side quests will often award you money or gear.

That being said, please standby while you’re dropped into your lovely wasteland hell.

((/qst/ will continue tomorrow at 1PM EST with way more updates. Don't mean to blue ball, just wanted to get this stuff out of the way ahead of time since I haven't been sleeping well. Hope to see you tomorrow.))
>>
((Starting a bit early today. Will check back at 1PM.))

Your name is Char and you’ve been left to fend for yourself. Your WISDOM is high enough that you can understand what happened. Milo Williams Incorporated, a group of drug trading hillbillies found out that you spent all 14 years of your life in the Desert Divas base. You were sent away with a bicycle to help you traverse the wasteland. That was a week ago. You’re trying desperately to keep your hopes up.

Current items in your BACKPACK:
>Rations for a week of travelling
>20 Porno Magazines
>Homemade Spear: Your weapon of choice. It uses a pole vault as a base and has a sharpened rock attached to it. With your high STRENGTH, you can easily use it for more acrobatic maneuvers.

Your poncho has room for 1 artifact, though you are intelligent enough to add at least one more with the right resources.

There’s also one other item: a mask for hiding your face. Depending on which one you put on, certain groups may treat you differently, as well as boosting your charisma in particular circumstances. One aspect is consistent regardless of which you put on though—it hides your identity as a woman. If the wrong party were to find out… Well, let’s just say you wish you didn’t have the WISDOM to know what would happen.

Now, what mask do you have? Your father was a performer so he was bound to have a lot of them.

>Submit picture of mask.

And after that, choose which direction you would like to cycle towards. Careful! The wasteland has many random events that can transpire, most of which are bad. Radioactive anomalies litter the world as well, containing artifacts that may help you survive by boosting physical characteristics, spark a mutation, or kill you. The last one is probably most likely considering your average speed. Choose wisely.

>North: You think you see a town in the distance. You smell a mix between rotting flesh and dogs even from where you are. It is a 3 hour travel time, so you won’t have to waste food.
>East: You see a giant… Thing in the distance. Your wisdom isn’t high enough to know what it is, so it’s likely an artifact of the old war. 12 hours travel, half a ration would be consumed.
>South: The direction you came from. Some biker scouts may be back there trying to find you, maybe not.
>West: You can’t make out anything. There could be something there, if you want to risk it.

You put on your skull mask. It’s kind of creepy, so among regular folk and the superstitious you gain +1 CHARISMA during conversation out of the intimidation factor.

You decide to head east right after, expending half a day’s rations in the process. When you arrive, you catch sight of an airplane. Your INTELLECT is high enough that you know it was a relic of a war that happened after The Great Anomaly which ended just as fast. It isn’t enough to remember why, though. Some misunderstanding, you think?

There’s some distortion around it—an anomaly field. WISDOM dictates that you understand all you need do to avoid getting fried is putting up your spear and pointing it at the anomaly to safely determine which spots are the most likely to contain extreme radiation.

From where you are, however, you can also see two very tiny people navigating through the site with the method you just described. They’re shorter than you, around 4 feet compared to your 5 and have extravagant masks that look kinda like monsters.

How do your proceed?

Treat others how you’d like to be treated, you guess.

“Heya!!” The masked midgets immediately shoot up and turn to look at you as you approach the plane. “You fellas need a helping hand? I think I know my way around an anomaly well eno—”

“Back!” One of them cries out in a thick accent you don’t recognize. Suddenly, you feel a sharp headache pound at you. You put a palm to your forehead and grimace, watching as one of them held their hands out. “We hear that too much! Reave at once or die!”

How do you respond?
>Try to convince them you mean no harm and will split whatever you find.
>Throw your weapon at the one assaulting you
>Get out of there

Your headache gets worse and worse the longer you spend in their vicinity. In a desperate plea to convince them, you try again.

“I-I really mean it all I want is to help! We can split what we find in half! Pro—AAAAAAH”

“ENOUGH!”

The one causing you this headache tightens their fist, bringing you to your knees.

“I warn once and you ignore me? This stuff ours!”

You try to get your spear from your backpack but your hands are too shaky to even undo the zipper on it. Before you know it, the world goes black and your face hits the floor. It stings briefly, but soon you feel nothing at all.

-

“His rations, hurry!” After who knows how long, you wake up to the sound of two voices who sound vaguely familiar…

“Okay! Pat him down for artifacts!”

Uh oh. If that happens, your secret will be revealed to the world in no time flat. A free roaming girl in the wasteland? If something like that got out, people would be on high alert to try and find you. Whatever you do, be prompt about your choice and be quick. You only have adrenaline for one or two quick bursts of action.

Before he can get any further, you lay up and deliver a fierce punch to this groin. The little man’s voice, which once sounded scratchy but old, went up a few octaves as he yelled in pain. You kick him down for good measure and rush for your nearby bag. His companion is spooked and backs away rapidly as he sees you approaching your bag.

You quickly drag your spear out of it—a simple task considering how it just pokes out of the bag to begin with. With a quick glance back and forth at the two of them, you conclude that the one on the ground in pain is the one who caused your headache. The other one, however, had a glowing red rock attached to his belt—an artifact. A fiery aura flies around it without burning its owner.

“G-get out of here before I burn you alive!”

Admittedly, you’re a little fed up, but these guys could be connected to someone else. If you try anything, you don’t want it getting back to you. If it does, future opportunities may be altered.

How do you respond?

“I was bein’ nice to you! And you go and do that to me?!” You ready your spear for a thrust attack, feeling your hair out of place from the fall. Ugh, that had to be the worst part. Fifi always taught you to stay presentable!

“Nice?! Nice?!” He raises his voice in outrage. “We got here first! We risk our rives for that shit! What you were gonna do to assist us? Stupid bonehead demon!”

In a fit of rage, you quickly thrust your spear into his face. You were fast but he at least managed to spray some flame from his hand in your general direction. The best he could do was burn your elbow a bit at that point, though. And with that, he was dead. Blood now stained your clothing, a sense of regret washed over you as that anger faded away.

Loathe as you were to admit it, he had a point. Who could trust a stranger in the wasteland? But there was nothing to be done about that. They had made themselves threats to you.

“Hiro! Hiro… No…” You hear a sound of genuine anguish leave the other man’s voice. Tears drip from down his mask.

You point your weapon at his head.

“Tell me who ya work for.”

Silence.

“Tell me!” You stamp your foot in anger. A few more seconds of silence pass and he looks at you. You see his small eyes through the mask for the first time now. “The Owari-gumi will have your head.”

You impale his face right then and there. Before long, you have looted all their materials. They had some bandages on them as well, which you use to wrap your elbows. You are smart enough to know that artifacts are radioactive and can have some bad side effects should you wear them for too long. You can equip them at any time but you aren’t knowledgeable enough to have a precise time for when these effects will kick in.

You can’t say you feel good about what you did, though you understand that it was a necessity to kill them both. They mugged you. If word got out about you… Especially if they were in a group, life would have gotten a lot harder. Is what it is.

Wisdom (2/10) gained. Current Wisdom at 5(2/10).

Note: Along with main quests, you can increase stats gradually by using your abilities in ways that push your limits and through experiences that teach lessons directly related to each stat.

“Phew… That was a disaster an’ a half.” You let out a huge sigh, straightening out your mess of hair. What now?

With a sigh, you head south, your mind plagued by thoughts of how much worse that could have gone. Someday, there may come a time when you cannot take your mistake back so easily. But you must press on. Your father did not cover your escape for you to die like a dog.

“Always stay smiling, baby. The world’s a scary place, but always smile and I promise you’ll get through it all.” That was the last thing he said to you before you left. You’ve never been that great a talker, but you’ve always been a fantastic smiler. You will have to make a note to let your actions speak for you.

With a heavy heart, you continue your journey.

-

You arrive at the site where you spotted the smoke. Closeby to it, anyway, because after your travelling you realize that it’s a small settlement of tents all set up around an enormous bonfire made of trash. You see silhouettes of men—men dancing, men eating, men singing. But there are a few that stand out to you from how darn strange they are.

There’s one guy who looks huge and muscular, you hardly want to imagine how big he would look up close. On his lap is what you assume is another man. What makes you doubt it is how thin his body is compared to how floppy his chest is. Must be some kinda freaky mutant. He looks like he’s bouncing up and down the big guy’s lap which you imagine has to sting a lot from how far he’s rolling his neck back.

Still, what you see here is a large group of around 50-80ish who undoubtedly have supplies to spare considering how much they’re splurging right now. What would you like to do?

>Use their tents as cover to get a better look at the festivities and listen in.
>Sneak around then into their tents to see if they have supplies hidden there.
>Approach them. They have numbers so they should be less jumpy if you ask for a job.

You decide that being forward nets you a better chance at survival than if you get caught sneaking around for supplies. Now that would be ugly. You leave your bike by the entrance in case you need to make a speedy getaway.

You notice that they have a tribal look to them. They’re garbed in mainly large pelts undoubtedly obtained from the creatures of the land. The members hardly seem to notice you as you walk by, too focused on dancing with the other members and drinking their vodka bottles to care about your existence.

In the middle of it all you see the large man you spotted from a distance and his partner. Your eyes widen when you come to an astonishing revelation: it was another girl. Had to be, her chest was way different from even the chubbiest men here. You almost gagged when you saw what she was doing: absolutely disgusting. Who in their right mind would shove THAT in THERE? Nasty…

Still, poppa always stressed how much you would need friends if you wanted a chance at surviving. Now was the time to make ‘em! You cross your hands behind your back and awkwardly approach the pair, who still seem so wrapped up in whatever it is they’re doing to notice you.

Whose attention do you try to get first?

“Heya, watcha doin’ there?” The muscular man’s eyes widen as he spots you for the first time before going back to normal in less than a second. Well, not completely normal, you had a sneaking suspicion that he was sizing you up. Still, your presence did absolutely nothing to change his actions.

“Fucking.”

“Oh.” You weren’t sure where to take this. Was that what they called it?

“Mind if I ask you something, little man?” He had the same voice as one of your dad’s regulars, Greashead. He was this rough and tumble guy with slicked back hair and a really cool black leather jacket.

“Yeah, sure.” You asked a question so it was only fair he did the same.

“Why don’t I snap your neck for being stupid enough to interrupt me?”

“Uh…”

“Gol… Who’s… This… Creep?” The lady opens her eyes for a brief moment, only for the man (Gol?) to pull her face into his chest. He said nothing more, still waiting for you to respond. You weren’t sure this mask was doing you much favors….

“‘Cause I wanna help you…?” You tighten your hands on your back together, look at the ground, and slide your foot left and right in the dirt, leaving marks where you did it. Complete silence. That’s what you were met with. Suddenly there was a lot of murmuring. Seems like they noticed you talking while you spoke to their boss. It wasn’t until three minutes of staring at the ground did you realize that he wanted you to stare him in the eye.

“Oh, that right? Babe, get off me.”

“What? But—”

“Off.” As he disconnected from his grumbling partner, you cast your gaze away.

“Don’t want your tiny prick, anyway.” She stormed off in a huff.

“Lucky for you I got a soft spot for the mentally challenged.”

“Ya mean the retards, boss?”

"Hey! None of that fucking language here. Just cause civilizations gone doesn't mean we gotta turn into fucking apes—even an Angel freak like you knows that, Trevor."

“Umm…” You weren’t sure what was happening. Did he just call you dumb?

“How ‘bout this?” He started again. “Put on one of my boys’ wolf headdresses and scare some of the cattle up north into coming by the plane and maybe I’ll think about letting you roll with this? Fair?”

“Fair, but…”

“Huh?” He looks at you like a predator eyeing his prey. It’s at this moment that you notice the immense size difference between the two of you. He was a freak of nature who stood at a solid 2 feet above you bare minimum. Scary…

“Uh… How many do think you’ll need? Gotta make sure I get enough for everyone.”

“Oh don’t you worry about that, little buddy, one’s all you need.” He nods his head at one of his men and they toss you a headdress, which you capture with both hands after almost missing.

“There, uh, anything else up there I should be worrying about up there?” You tilt your head in concern.

“What? Don’t be such a fucking worrywart kid, beat it before I change my mind.” The man stretches his foot to give you a light kick to the knee to prompt you to get out of there. Not wanting to anger him, you oblige.

-

Traveling up there takes about another 12 hours. You’re down to about six day’s worth of food by the time you get there. When you arrive, you see cows stampeding across the fields. This your first time seeing them but they’re exactly like people described. Pink, horns that could stab through the strongest armor, and twice as big as a man could hope to be.

You put on the wolf headdress which thankfully covers everything but the bottom half of your face. You notice that there’s a bare chest man with what looks to be a green skirt petting one of them and feeding it apples. What do you do?

You switch out the headdress for the Skeleton Mask and call out to the man. Keeping your past experience with strangers in mind, you try to be more polite about it.

“Um, excuse me, sir.” He looks at you. “Is it okay for me to ask a few questions?”

“Depends on one thing, child. Is that cowblood on your clothes?

“This? N-no course not! These crazy goblin midgets tried messing with me so things got heated!”

“Ahh,” he nods his head, “Owari-gumi footmen, right? Fair enough, I’m not the biggest fan of them either.”

“So I can…?”

“Ask away, my friend.” He says with a welcoming swipe of his hand.

“Ah, great! Mind if I ask who you are?” He laughs a bit at your enthusiasm.

“This outfit rings no bells to you?”

You shake your head no.

“I’m Anthony, a member of the Mother Earth’s Shepherds. And because I do not imagine you know, we are tasked with preserving the world from men who would seek to harm it any further. I am but a footman myself but our higher ranked members have managed to enlist dogs subjected to The Great Anomaly's distortions that they ride into battle against the land's most wicked heathens!" He spoke with such pride when he mentioned the dogs.

“Izzat why you’re all buddy buddy with that cow?”

“This is one of the ways our services manifest, yes. I and a few of my brothers who will be arriving shortly have been tasked with tending to the cows here as their milk is vital for the town towards the west.”

“Ohh. Makes sense, can I have one?”

“‘Have one?’”

You nod your head enthusiastically.

“They are not mere things to be sold. Beware of that mindset, it may lead towards the same road Goliath’s Boys use to motivate their acts of debauchery.”

Interesting…

“Mm, speaking of…” You began, nervousness seeping into your heart. “I actually ran into that Gol guy a few days back.”

“What?!” Anthony cried out in shock. “That is impossible; your head would be grounded to a pulp by now!”

“Eh? Is he that scary to people?” You thought it was just to you!

“Scary does not cover it. He is the only faction leader who can confidently fight amongst his own men. I apologize, but I frankly cannot believe you could meet a monster like that and live.”

“Well, he didn’t seem that bad. Just kinda scary. And he had a girl with him so he can’t have been that bad.” You reason. “They were doin’ some preeeeeetty weird stuff together, though.”

Anthony stares at you blankly. You look to the left. To the right. Was there something on your face—or, well, mask?

“So you did meet him...:”

“That’s what I’ve been sayin’!” This guy was really starting to bug you. “He told me that he wanted me to bring one of the cows over to that thingamabobber down south a here.”

“The plane?”

You shrug.

“I think?”

He puts fingers to his chin and starts thinking. The focused gaze he had was a little unsettling and you almost felt like leaving. When you readied yourself to step away, he held out a palm to you.

“Wait. He obviously must have seen something in you to give you this job.” He squinted his eyes as though focusing on his theory. “Clearly, he wanted you to bring a cow so a handful of us would give chase.”

You crossed your arms and looked to the upper right with squinted eyes. Was that what it was? Huh.

“He probably has scouts ready to spot you with binoculars. What say you return at 3PM 3 days from now after I amass some of the Shepherds to stage an ambush?”

“Three what now?”

“PM. Time? Allows you to know when events transpire?” He pulls out a small metal circle with two needles rotating. “I could teach you how to use it if you agree. It would also be an easy way to make allies without betting it on the goodwill of some wayfarer in a town.”

“Uh, if that’s what you really want…”

“Fantastic! With your help we can close those fools in from every direction!” He places both palms on your shoulders, causing you to jump a little. Way too close. “Now for your lesson…”

He runs you over the basic mechanisms of using what he calls a “pocket watch.” You have somewhat below average Intelligence so it was a bit harder to teach you than he would have hoped but you pull through in the end.

Intelligence 4 4(1/7)

It is currently 5PM. You won’t always need the watch, but it should be useful for when you want to plan events at specific times or to have a reference for how long you should wait if you want to tackle objectives at a certain time period.

-

And with that, you head off to the… plane? Was that what it was called? You do go there with the full intent of carrying out Anthony’s plan but… A pang of guilt hits you. Wouldn’t you be doing something bad if you went back on your word to Goliath? He did ask you first, plus you sort of wanted to get to know that girl a little more. Either way, five rations left.

When you arrive at the plane, you see one of Goliath’s men approach you.

“The hell are you doing dude? Goliath ain’t gonna be happy about this!” You couldn’t see his face from the wolf headdress he had on but you could tell he was annoyed.

“Well, that’s the thing…” You rub the back of your neck uncomfortably. “They know about the plan…”

“What?!”

“They’re gonna bring a ton of guys and it sounds like they’re gonna try to trap you in from every which way.”

Silence. Dead silence. He puts his hands on your shoulders without a word. Again. Again with the shoulders. You really wish they would stop with the shoulders.

“You’re a fuckin’ mad genius, dude!”

“What d’ya mean?” You tilt your head in confusion.

“You triple crossed those tree loving hippies! Gol’s gonna be happy that we can pin the fucker’s down in one place.” There was genuine shock and admiration in his voice. “You know, you seem kinda brain dead but you’re way smarter than we gave you credit for!”

“Uh… Thank you?”

“Nah dude, thank you. Get those cow fuckers over here and Gol’s definitely gonna make it worth your while now! I’ll let him know right now. Be good, bro.” He pats your right shoulder a bit then he’s off to the campsite.

Well that certainly happened.

You head up to the town, expending two rations and ultimately leaving you with three.

When you arrive, you are met with a medium sized shanty town made up of shacks constructed from wood and sheets of iron. Though the half-clothed inhabitants of the town look miserable there is a strange affability in the tones of the men at their stalls.

Also of note are the plentiful men with the bare minimum of clothes—the few articles they have being noticeably green—side by side what look to be mutated dogs. Most of them are walking out a hole in the ground sealed by two doors.

There is a slightly larger building at the far end of the town where men are exiting with drunken strides. What will you do?

You search around for a second, looking through all of the poorly made signs advertising the vendors’ prices. Your jaw nearly drops.

One loaf of bread—worth only a day’s rations—cost 20 magazines! Everything you had! Cheese wasn’t much better, it cost 30 and was radiant green unlike anything you have ever seen before. Did they get it from those giant cows? With your lack of Intelligence, you couldn’t piece together a reason for the price discrepancy between the food items. And the armor, oh the armor, you did find one. Looking at its sign made you want to cry. 500 magazines.

You put your hands on your head in a panic. Why was everything so expensive? Did your pa not have enough time to get you settled? Gah, when you found that Milo Williams gang you were gonna drive your spear through all of their faces ‘til they were deader than dead! Those ugly, Angel freak zombies!

But until that day comes, what do you do?

You decide to visit the bar. It’s by far the most structurally sound of all the buildings you have seen thus far. No misaligned roofs, no broken down doors, no support bars made of rotting wood—everything was as neat as it could have been under the circumstances with its irregularly symmetrical design for the town. While the inhabitants strived for the bare minimum, the bar was evidently affluent enough to afford constant repairs.

You push open the door to find that the outside betrayed what was really held within. It was a place of loud chatter with men decked out in armor with axes and swords and arrows by their waists. They were making a ruckus you could only compare to the likes of Goliath’s Boys. Of the figures present to you, the ones who caught your eye immediately were the portly bartender and Anthony who was by the table on his own with a bottle of vodka.

Your stomach churned. You weren’t sure you were quite ready to tell him. It was sure to set your relationship in flames, so you elected to go to the bartender to stall burning that bridge quite yet.

“Uhh, excuse me?” You ask timidly. The bartender looks at you with grumpy eyes that lighten up a little when he sees your small form.

“Err,” he looks side to side behind you, “are you alone here, kid?”

“Yeah, how come?”

“Nothing, friend. Only… You have very, very feminine voice even for little boy. Most feminine voice for little boy I hear in all of Plank—maybe in all of Chvary itself.”

You stay silent, feeling yourself turn pale.

“Not to scare, of course. You need to take care. Find companions. You know what happens to girly boys out here, yes?” He stares at you with a dour expression.

“Y-yeah, I know.” You struggle to find any more to say off the bat, so you default with what you came here for. “So anyway, would ya happen to know of any rumors?”

“Rumors?” He raises a brow, to which you nod your head. “Outside of the luxurious nature of the cheese here making it harder to purchase? Mmm…”

He rubbed the back of his head.

“Maybe some of the people in here?” You suggest.

“Ah, very well. There’s a large assortment of freaks here. The biggest ones besides that sad overglorified hippy are him, him, and him.” He points to three men individually. “The first is Strelok. He keeps himself covered in gas mask all the time. No one know his face but he a reliable shooter with a bow. The next one is Andy. For the ugly blob he is, he very funny. Good to talk to. And last is Todd. He a weirdo, Angel freak—you know the type. All jittery and annoying but he leagues above other people here in strength. That I admit.”

Maybe you could talk to one of these guys, more help is never bad to have. Though, that may also mean that you would have someone who could figure out your secret with you at all times. Scary thought. What do you do?

Eh, none of these guys look particularly interesting to you. Your womanly instincts tell you that you must find someone stronger, someone more muscular, with long bright, colorful hair and full lips painted red with lipstick. The thought of such a man made you blush for reasons unknown to you. All that was clear to you was that those kinds of men were gorgeous one-in-a-millions, which is probably why you couldn’t spot anyone of the sort in this bar. Everyone else was noticeably kind of skeevy.

Maybe you were setting your sights too high?

>>4155685

“Thanks a ton for the info, Mr. Bartender!”

“Ha, always, little man.”

You rise up from your seat and approach the young man with the bow. He was sulking by himself at a tiny table meant for two, raising his gas mask to drink a strange green substance.

“Heya there!” You call to him while pulling up a chair for yourself. Though you cannot see his eyes, you detect an icy glare as he stares at you from his mask. “Um, I thought you could use some company.”

“Not particularly.” He had the same accent as the bartender. You mull over what to say for a bit, before defaulting to a subject that really did interest you since you spotted him.

“Hey, where’d you get that bow and those arrows from?” You point to his weapon, elbows on the table and the palm of your hand supporting the left side of your face. Silence. He seemed like a naturally closed off individual and your Charisma is too low to coax him out of his shell.

“What do you want from me?”

“So you look for companion to help you, yes?”

“Exactly!”

“No.” He shoots down the idea so flatly you feel embarrassed. Your mind struggles to formulate a response to such a simple decline. Eventually, you piece the words together to express your sentiments more or less.

“Wha—bu—why not?”

“From what I see… Not impressed. I no babysitter.”

“And I ain’t a baby!”

“Ha! Stand up, little man.” You do as he says, albeit reluctantly. Where was he going with this? He put the side of his hand on top of his forehead then brought it down to where he assumed yours was—around an 8 inch difference. “See? Tiny skinny midgets no make for good companions. I will come with you for a 75 magazine fee, however.”

You look to the left, then to the right to make sure no one is watching you. Anthony is still far away back there, strangely down on his luck for such a formal sounding guy. Your plan was not going to make matters much better for him, whatever it was he suffered from. With a heavy sigh, you decide to tell Strelok about it hoping that he will give his services to you if he knows that there’s profit involved for him.

“I got a job for Goliath’s Boys.” You say, your voice oddly solemn and quiet compared to its usual chipper tone. “They want me to lead the cows over to the plane so they can ambush them. They know about it so they wanna use it so they can take Gol’s Boys by surprise, but Gol knows that they… know so it’s really still a trap for them. There’s probably more work where that came from if it works out. Maybe you can help?”

You struggled a bit to explain the last part of your triple cross but you got it out well enough.

Strelok simply looks at you quietly, the silence being drawn out enough to make you feel uncomfortable. Until finally, he speaks. “So what you doing here for so serious task?”

“I hafta tell him to get things in motion.” You point a thumb backwards towards Anthony.

“I see.” And with that he walks past you, confusing you momentarily. Your heart sinks when you realize what he’s doing. He was headed right towards Anthony. You didn’t have to be a rocket surgeon to figure out that he was about to spill the beans.

Quick, how do you react?

You grab onto his arm with an iron grip and keep him held firmly in place.

“Let go, you pig!” He tries forcing his arm back to no avail. For such a “big guy,” he sure was dainty.

“What is it I gotta do to get you to keep your mouth shut?” The struggle got to the point where he was now employing use of his second arm to force you away. Heatened up, you swiftly jump up, bring his neck down, and hold him between your bicep in a headlock. This did not help matters in the slightest.

“ONE SHOT! OДИH!! THAT IS ALL!” You think that was meant to be a threat? While you think of someway to diffuse the situation (and walk away from the attention this was bringing you from the patrons), you hear the sound of beeping come from Strelok’s body. Suddenly his limp struggles come to an end, leaving only heavy breaths in their wake. And you? You hardly broke one at all.

“...My artifact detector. You have them?”

“Huh?” You tilt your head to the side. “Oh, yeah, the rocks! I got ‘em…”

You almost forgot. Or… Were you trying to forget? The way you got these wasn’t exactly clean. Man, it feels like ages ago.
