The Lighthouse War is over, but conflict still continues.

With Erusea's defeat at the hands of the Osean Federation and the International United Nations, the imperial nation has splintered into a confusing mess of separatists, freedom fighters, warlords, rogue military factions, and those seeking to profit from the chaos. Worse, Erusea's many automated drone factories still remain intact, waiting for new masters to come to claim them.

The Usean continent remains in crisis, and it's up to a new generation of pilots to face this next generation threat...

You are MILLY, the "Red Tail", a Belkan Air Force pilot fighting for the IUN!

It was a new day, and with a fresh wardrobe, it mean that it was time to meet up with Karla to start the investigations into Grunder and Neo One Belka while there was a lull in military ops. Goddamn, you were excited!

However, when you get up, you suddenly remember that you had Vicky stay over at your place. You ended up...

And that's when it started coming back to you. You and Vicky had practically stayed up all night playing your copy of COMBAT ACES like a pair of kids! You wake up right where you were sitting on the couch, the controller still clutched in your hands.

You feel a weight on your shoulder, and see Vicky to your side. Whether by accident or design, she had fallen over and her head was no resting on your shoulder as she snored softly.

Haaaaaa, she looked pretty cute like this.

You manage to slip out from under Vicky like a goddamn stealth fighter. She remains nicely sound asleep as you scuttle away from the living area and to the kitchen.

Now, you didn't exactly stock anything too fancy in your apartment, but you did have the bare essentials, as well as a few things you had bought during the shopping spree. You dole out some simple bacon and eggs, but Uncle had taught you how to make a seriously mean plate of that stuff. All you needed was some cream, the right spices, and quite a bit of butter.

As your little homemade breakfast starts to sizzle on the pan, the small begins to waft over into the living area, which begins to rouse Vicky from her slumber.

"Smellsh goooooooooooooood." Vicky moans as she slowly comes to her senses, before practically falling off the couch and rolling on the floor like the klutz she is.

"Come on, Vicky! You can do it!" You call out encouragingly from the kitchen as you start offloading the eggs and bacon from the pan into a pair of plates. You make doubly sure to drizzle some of the leftover bacon grease in the pan over the eggs. Another little touch Uncle taught you.

"Cooooming!" Vicky groans as she finally manages to get back up to her feet and shuffles over to the kitchen counter. "Also, mrning, Milly."

"Morning, Vicky." You grin as you slide one of the plates in front of her. "Sorry the sleeping arrangements didn't quite pan out."

"Oh no, it's fine! Really!" Vicky assures you as she takes another deep sniff of the breakfast aroma. "Oh my gosh! It smells even better up close! I didn't know you could cook like this!"

"Yeah, well, you pick up a few skills here and there." You nod, feeling a bit of pride at Vicky's compliments.

"Anyways," Vicky continues, somehow speaking as she starts shoveling eggs in to her mouth, "what's the plan for today?"

"Well, we gotta meet up with Karla, of course." You say.

"Yeah, but where?"

"At her house, of course!" You wink. "It's probably the safest place in all of Dinsmark!"

"O-okay." Vicky nods as she starts finishing up her breakfast. "This is suuuuuuper good!"

That reminds you to start eating your own portion before it gets cold, and for the next few minutes, the apartment is filled with the sound of clinking silverware and plates.

"So Vicky, what do you think of Belka so far?" You ask her.

"Well, it's kinda hard to judge from just one day." Vicky replies as she eagerly bites into a strip of bacon. "But it's definitely a lot warmer, that's for sure!"

"Hah, it's rare to see anyone consider this place warm, especially this far north!" You laugh.

"But it definitely seems normal enough." Vicky continues. "You'd think from all of the stories people say about this place, that you're all nothing but a bunch of paranoid schemers who never go outside and constantly spy on each other."

"All a bunch of BS!" You harumph. "We do NOT spy on each other all the time!"

"Aren't we currently on a mission to spy on other Belkan-"

"IT'S ALL FAKE OBC NEWS!" You pout.

"All right, all right, I get it." Vicky chuckles.

The two of you then finish up breakfast and get yourselves cleaned up and changed. It a little longer than you would have liked due to Vicky insisting that she had to redo her twintails, having turned into a tangled mess overnight.

It's a short cab ride over to Karla's house, and soon enough, the two of you are at the front door. You ring the doorbell.

"Sorry! I'm a little bit busy!" You hear Karla call out from inside. "The door's unlocked! Come on in!"

You reach for the doorknob and freeze. If you knew that little brat Ellisa, she was planning an ambush the moment you entered!

Huh, on that note, this would be the first time Vicky would seriously meet Ellisa in person.

"After you, Vicky!" You say cheerfully as you open the door and step aside.

"Oh, thanks, Milly!" Vicky smiles as she steps through the threshold.

Suddenly, there's a loud SNAP as a tripwire is broken, releasing a large slingshot mounted just on the other side of the front door, launching a massive pillow directly at Vicky!

"...eh?" Vicky pauses.

You felt kinda bad about it, but Vicky was a necessary sacrifice. As the pillow slams into her face with out loud POMF, Vicky goes toppling backwards, and you see the little hellion Ellisa poking her head out from behind the interior door to observe the effects of her trap. She gasps when she realizes you hadn't fallen for it, and swiftly retreats farther into the house.

"Ahhhhh!! What's going on?!" Vicky wails, flailing as she tries to get the pillow off her face.

No time to help her, though!

Ellisa is fast, but you're much faster, closing the distance and grabbing the little twerp by the collar.

"Gotcha! You little gremlin!" You cackle.

"No fair! You were using a human shield!" Ellisa whines as she struggles in your grip.

"Says the twerp who bobby trapped the front door!" You counter.

"Oh, so it looks like you two are getting along as always." Karla laughs lightly as she walks in, still wearing an apron. Was she cooking. "Where's your wingmate? I thought you said you were bringing her along- oh no."

Karla sighs when she sees Vicky sprawled on the floor, the pillow still on top of her face.

"Ellisa, you know that setting booby traps up is rude, especially when we have new people over." Karla tuts.

You smugly nod when Karla turns her angry gaze to you.

"And Milly, you shouldn't be using your wingmates as sacrificial pawns. I thought I taught you better than that!"

"I had no other choice!" You protest. "Either way, somebody was gonna get smacked in the face with a pillow!"

"Honestly, what am I going to do with you two?" Karla tuts and shakes her head. She quickly walks over to Vicky, batting away the pillow and helping her up to her feet. "You okay?"

"Fine! I'm fine!" Vicky sputters. "O-oh! V-Valkyrie!"

"You can just call me Karla." She laughs. "It's been a while since I've actually flown under that callsign, you know."

"B-but-"

"Shhh." Karla shushes Vicky. "There will be plenty of time to talk later. Let's just get you inside, first!"

Karla ushers Vicky into the house and closes the front door before leading you into the dining room.

"Have you two already eaten? Do you want anything to drink?" Karla says as she casually grabs Ellisa by the collar and drags her off.

"Let's get straight to business here." You grunt, taking a seat. "I guess you know the whole deal with Erwin and Annelise?"

"Yeah, Uncle already filled me in." Karla nods. "Guess OB's been real busy all this this time."

"And you can't have been just sitting back and letting it all play out, right?" You raise an eyebrow.

Vicky meanwhile just looks between the both of you, unsure if she should speak up or not.

"We know Grunder has been their main supplier, even with the leadership purge." Karla recounts. "Thing is, we never had the evidence to prove it, until they showed their hand in helping kick off the Lighthouse War."

Karla leans back in her seat and sighs.

"Grunder's main HQ is still in North Osea. That site is a bit out of our reach, but they have a branch facility just outside of Dinsmark." She explains further. "Something's gotten them all riled up now, and they're hiring local labor like crazy."

"Are they building something?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Or moving something?" Vicky wonders.

"That's what we need to know." Karla nods. "And the timing is too suspect. It may have something to do with this next plot Erwin was talking about."

"So, we're going to infiltrate the Grunder facility." You frown.

"Correction. You two are going to." Karla grins. "My face is a bit too well known in Grunder. But I think you two can slip under their radar."

"I'm in." You nod. "How about you, Vicky?

"Y-yeah." Vicky nods as well. "So what do we do?"

"Well, Grunder is looking for three roles." Karla flips through several files on the table. "Office work, manual labor, and security."

"Sounds like grunt level work." You frown.

"Grunt level work is the lowest security and the easiest to get in a hurry." Karla points out. "Anyways, office work can get you access to their files and records. Manual labor will get you an opportunity to see what they're actually storing in that site, and security could give you the run of the place."

"Would security have a lot more scrutiny on it, though?" Vicky wonders.

"It would." Karla nods. "So that would be a bigger risk."

"And, would we have to take the same roles?" Vicky wonders. "It might be a bit redundant if we do."

In the end, it was decided that you would disguise yourself as a laborer while Vicky would try to infiltrate the office area as a newly minted secretary. That way, you could try and dig up information from two different sides.

And for the rest of the day, Karla and Ellisa spared no effort in giving you a complete makeover. Your normally messy hair was aggressively combed and brushed to be straight as rail before being tied back into a ponytail. A pair of thick rimmed glasses completed the set.

"There you go! You look like almost a completely different person!" Karla nods, looking proud of herself.

"Yep! Like a total neeeeerd!" Ellisa taunts.

You glance at the mirror and tilt your head from side to side, trying to get a measure of your new look.

"That's a good thing!" Karla laughs. "This isn't a beauty contest! The entire point of this is so that people don't recognize you!"

"Yeah, yeah, I get it." You mumble.

However, you hear Ellisa snickering. Unfortunately, she was hiding behind Karla so you couldn't reach over to strangle the little twerp.

"S-so am I wearing this right?"

Vicky then enters, wearing a blouse with jacket and a pencil skirt. Black pantyhose and high heels completed the effect.

"You totally look the part!" You give the thumbs up.

"Um. th-thanks." Vicky blushes a bit.

"All right, now that you both can get the look down, it's time for the actual work." Karla lays a map out on the table, which was obviously a layout of the Grunder facility.

"Now, Vicky's job is easy enough. All their administrative functions are concentrated in this one building." Karla notes on a large building. "Milly, yours is gonna be a little more complicated."

Karla points to other more open sections of the map.

"The facility is pretty damn big. There's a port facility that handles the majority of the cargo going in and out. Over here on the south end is a row of secure hangars. Impossible to tell what's in them from the outside. Finally, there's a big boneyard to the east where they dispose of a lot of discarded equipment. May not be much, but that area has next to no security."

"Guess I'll take the port." You shrug.

"Okay, it's all decided, then." Karla nods.

"W-wait!" Vicky stammers. "What if something goes wrong? What do we do?"

"You both will get emergency transmitters." Karla explains. "They won't broadcast until you turn them, so a regular security check shouldn't be able to spot them. However, they sure as hell will notice when you turn them on."

"And what's gonna happen when we make that call?" You wonder.

"Well, I got an old friend who can provide some on demand air support if things get real bad." Karla nods.

"Huh?" Vicky blinks.

"Come on, Amy isn't THAT sloppy." Karla waves off your concern. "She's just really enthusiastic! That's all!"

"Why can't we just have Lara or Lilian come?" You groan.

"Because WCS is too big to be able to move around quietly, and Grunder's been keeping an eye on them for a long time now." Karla tuts. "And they'd notice if they tried to send assets to Belka. Lilian, meanwhile, is still busy managing reconstruction efforts in Usea, so she's out, too!"

"This is gonna suck." You sigh.

You and Vicky both give one more farewell wave to Karla and Ellisa as you leave. Out in front, you could see Jager already waiting on the street in a nondescript sedan. You got the feeling this wasn't the car the family drove around in.

"Oh no he doesn't mind at all." You assure her. "I think he's largely gotten over it, more or less. Plus, you aren't a mercenary, so he shouldn't have any issues with you!"

"T-that feels like a very low bar to set." Vicky mumbles.

The University isn't too far away, so the drive is rather short. Since it was the middle of the day now, you could see some students moving back and forth across the campus, through it was largely empty. Most people were probably already in class or something.

Regardless, nobody gives you or Vicky a second look as you make your way over to the Professor's office.

"Hey Prof! You there?" You ask as you knock on his office door.

"Oh, um." You pause, trying to figure out the best way to answer. "I'm just trying a new look right now! How is it?"

You then do a little spin around on your heel to show off a bit.

"Is that all?" The Professor glances at you, not fully convinced, but he doesn't push any further.

"Yep!" You say quickly.

"I see." The Professor then turns his gaze to Vicky. "Is military life so comfortable now that you can get your own personal secretary?"

"She's just a friend of mine, Prof!" You laugh. "This is Vicky! It's her first time in Belka, so I wanted to show her around!"

"H-hi." Vicky mumbles as she waves weakly.

"Hello there." The Professor nods. "I take it you are her new wingmate?"

"That's right." Vicky nods. "A-and I have to say, it's an honor being in the presence of a respected veteran like you!"

You can see the barest hints of an amused smile on the Professors face as he hears Vicky's words.

"You know, there was a time where I would let a compliment like that go straight to my head." He chuckles. "Still, it is rather reassuring to know there are still people who know of me."

"Who wouldn't?" Vicky gushes. "You're Rot 1! One of the most famous aces from the Belkan War!"

"There others more accomplished than I." The Professor tries to brush off the compliment. "I'm sure you wouldn't be interested in a simple teacher like me."

"But you're Milly's teacher, right? That's more than enough to respect you!" Vicky insists. "I can tell she learned a lot from you!"

"Come on newbie! Pick up the pace!" The foreman barks at you like a drill sergeant in basic. "I can get these crates loaded up two hours ago in my sleep!"

"I'm working on it!" You bark back. "Not my fault they made the controls for this thing so damn complicated!"

"Have you even driven a forklift before?!" The foreman groans.

"Um, y-yeah!" You flatly lie. Come on, you fly mulitmillion dollar warplanes for a living! A forklift should be easy, right?

Well, evidently now.

"I knew it was a bad idea to hire all these temps." The foreman shakes his head.

Your infiltration of Grunder's Dinsmark branch had more or less gone off without a hitch. However, things so far were a bit... dull. You had to spend a couple of days getting oriented to the work and the layout of the facility. You really hadn't had the chance to do some serious snooping just yet.

However, what you were able to gather from the general mood and your surface level observations was that Grunder was trying to move product out of the facility and fast. Virtually all of your work involved loading containers onto waiting cargo ships and hardly any offloading at all. You were getting the feeling this was some sort of disguised evacuation, or they were shipping out a ton of material and supplies for... something.

Either way, all of this was pretty damn suspicious.

"Ugh, whatever, just make sure this container gets to Pier 2!" The foreman groans, distracted by a crash as two other forklifts collide with each other. "Goddamnit, why couldn't we make drone forklifts first..."

With the foreman's diverted, you quickly take the chance to putt your forklift away to avoid any more angry lectures on the finer points of forklift handing. While your destination was Pier 2, you had suspicions it wasn't processing particularly important cargo, given how security was pretty much nonexistent. Meanwhile, Pier 1 was guarded to the teeth, with round the clock surveillance and patrols. You hadn't yet been able to get close to that area.

Maybe if you "accidentally" got misrouted there, things could change...

You decide that now was a good time to get "lost" and you turn your forklift towards Pier 1. Already, you could see there was a small security checkpoint at the front of the pier, which fed into a pair of large cargo ships docked just off the shore.

The checkpoint only consisted of a guard station manned by a single guard. Considering the queue of forklifts and trucks lined up at the checkpoint, it looked like the guard wasn't taking particular care in checking their papers, just taking cursory glances and waving them through.

Maybe you could actually bluff your way past him. Then again, with all these vehicles carrying valuable cargo packed so closely together, a little "accident" could cause enough of an opening for you to slip in unnoticed...

Finally, it's your turn in the queue. You simply hold up your shipping paper like the drivers in front of you have done. The beleaguered guard simply takes one look at the paper and waves you through, not even bothering to give it a closer inspection.

And just like that, you're in! As you drive your forklift through the area near Pier 1, you notice three immediate areas of interest. First was the yard, where all of the cargo containers were held until they were ready to load onto the ships. They weren't necessarily being guarded, but the area was still rather open and busy. On the pier itself, you there were the cargo ships themselves. You could try sneaking into them. It would definitely be more private inside.

Finally, there was the harbormaster's office tucked to the side. That was where all the important files and shipping manifests would be kept to manage the cargo loading. There was a fairly heavy guard presence, but it was also a flurry of activity. Perhaps you could find an opportunity to slip inside!

You decide to head over to the docked cargo ships. You park your forklift to the side and walk down the pier. You wouldn't have long before your foreman notices you were missing.

You kinda wonder how things with Vicky were going. You were tempted to hail her on your radio, but you had to remind yourself that was for emergencies only, as Grunder's security forces would likely notice it.

So you keep moving forward towards the docked ship. On one ship, you could see numerous smaller containers. The type that were normally loaded on to trucks and train cars. On the other, you could see clearly that it was carrying oversize cargo. Equipment covered in heavy tarps that you couldn't identify from this distance.

The oversized cargo was what got your attention. However, as you head down the pier, you notice a pair of guards guarding the gangplank leading up to the ship. However, they didn't look particularly alert or dangerous. You look to your side and see a bunch of smaller boxes. If you grabbed one, you could pretend you were making a delivery or something.

Then again, you also notice a nearby crane winching cargo directly onto the ship. Perhaps you could hitch a ride on that cargo instead. Alternatively, the ship's massive mooring cables gave you a point of entry by shimmying up them, even if was a bit exposed.

Or, well, you could just do this manually and jump the guards. Neither of them looked particularly tough...

As you head up to the gangplank, you see the two guards turn their attention to. One of them nods to the other, who looks a lot younger than him.

"H-halt!" The younger guard stammers. "This ship is a restricted area and off limits to unauthorized personnel! Please leave the area!"

"You're still too nice!" His senior barks. "If you want to make it as a guard, you gotta be MEAN! Give them a reason to respect you!"

"S-sir!" The younger guard salutes.

"Anyways, what is it this time?" The older guard grumbles as he focuses on you. "It's not often we get foot deliveries."

"Well, this is very special and sensitive cargo." You say.

"Is it? Nobody told me." The veteran guard frowns.

"Well, because it's special and sensitive, of course!" You point out. "So sensitive, it can't be put on official record. You understand?"

"Oh, I see. I see." The veteran guard's eyes light up. "A special mission, is it?"

"Yup! Might even be a merit for you if things turn out right!" You wink, homing in on the veteran guard's apparent interest.

"Well then, you're free to go!" The veteran guard nods and steps aside.

"P-please watch your step!" The rookie guard warns you as you head up the gangplank.

Too easy.

Now you had more or less free run of the ship. You could try getting a peek at the equipment stored on the top of the deck, but it was pretty open and easy to see. Anyways, the more important stuff should be stored belowdecks in the cargo hold, right? There was also the bridge. Maybe you could find out where this ship was headed, actually.

You decide to head down belowdecks to see what was being stored in the cargo hold. Thankfully, there wasn't much crew present on the ship, and the few that you encountered paid you no heed.

Finally, you reach the main cargo hold, where you you pause as you see what is stored inside.

Rocket boosters.

Not the type for weapons or anything. However, you do vaguely recall that these were the detachable boosters typically used to help spacecraft reach orbit before being discarded. Why would Grunder be shipping these out? Were they trying to launch something into space?

You got the feeling that your presence was going to be missed soon. But there was still so much you could find out here.

You clamber up to the deck in order to see what's stocked up there. Whatever it was, it was pretty damn big. Too big to really fit in the cargo hold. You look around and don't see anybody nearby, so you take a look beneath the tarp.

And what you see is a rocket powered launch sled. The type they used to launch payloads into space before the Space Elevator was built.

A rocket sled, and rocket boosters. They were definitely trying to launch something! But what?

Suddenly, you hear a commotion coming from the pier. You peek over the side of the ship and you could see your foreman and a small team of guards hustling down the pier towards the pair of guards at the gangplank. Shit, were they on to you?

"Yeah, well, you know what? It's time for you to GET LOST!" The foreman yells. "I'm not gonna tolerate any more fuckups from you! You're fired! Get your ass outta here!"

"Fine! The pay was shit, anyways!" You huff as you march towards the exit, a couple of security guards hanging close behind you as you leave.

You're promptly booted from the facility and left out at the front. You pause briefly to wonder what to do next when a very, VERY fancy sedan pulls up to you. The window then rolls down and Vicky pokes her head out.

"Hey, Milly!" She says happily.

"Vicky?!" You blink. "What are you doing here?"

"Mission accomplished! I got some nice intel!" Vicky gives you the thumbs up. "And I managed to borrow this car, as well! A Nordenvannic import, too!"

"Cool!" Vicky smiles. "So, how did things go on your end?"

"Buncha crap." You grunt as you lean back in your seat. "But I did manage to catch a glimpse of what they were trying to ship out of the facility. Rocket sleds and boosters.

"Really? That's weird." Vick blinks. "Most launch sites were decommissioned after the Space Elevator was built."

"Yeah, I can't make heads or tails of it, either." You shake your head. "What did you find out, Vicky?"

"Well, I'm not 100% sure of the details, but I managed to pull a lot of Grunder's classified files before they wiped their servers!" Vicky grins as she holds up a data drive. "All we have to do is plug in back at base and see what's in it!"

"Sounds like plan-" You pause when you hear a distressingly familiar sound.

The distinct, high pitched whine of drone engines.

Suddenly, there's an explosion in the distance, and the shockwave hits a few seconds later, rattling the entire car and causing Vicky to swerve to the side and hit the brakes.

"W-w-w-what was that?!" Vicky whimpers, reverting back to her nervous self.

"Nothing good." You feel you stomach drop. That explosion was coming from the direction of the base!

By the time you and Vicky reach the base, the attack was well already underway. Drones were zipping back and forth over the area as the air defenses and fighters tried to fend them off. Bullet tracers and missile smoke trails crisscrossed through the sky as Dinsmark became a battlefield.

"We gotta get to the prison wing! They must be trying to spring the prisoners!" You tell Vicky.

"B-but we're pilots! Not soldiers!" Vicky stammers. "And we're not even armed!"

"We're just going to go to make sure they're still there!" You assure her. "Go!"

Vicky stamps down the pedal, plowing the sedan through the base's front gate.

"Sorry!" Vicky yells out the window as the bewildered gate guards are still trying to figure out what's going on.

Meanwhile, the interior of the base itself was chaos as personnel were rushing to battle stations. Vehicles of all types were moving back and forth to get to where they were needed. Supply trucks, tankers, AA vehicles, transports, and more. It was a gigantic mess.

Suddenly, a stray missile comes down and slams into the one of the hangars. Not yours, thankfully, but you're not sure if there was anything in it.

"W-we shouldn't be in the open!" Vicky wails.

"Fine! Take it from here!" You yell to Vicky.

Vicky immediately veers the sedan towards the main complex of buildings that served as the main hub of the base. There was plenty of cover there to stay out of sight of the drones, as well as to serve as shields against any potential incoming fire.

However, it feels like an eternity as Vicky maneuvers through the winding streets, alleys, and backed up traffic. Meanwhile, the air battle above still raged. You catch sight of Bandit and Misono's F-15s in the sky as well, trying to help the local fighters fend off the drones.

"M-Milly!" Vicky yelps as she slams on the brakes.

You turn your attention forward, where you could see a procession of people being led out of the prison wing. It looked like civilians and base staff being hastily evacuated into a transport truck. However, you immediately catch Erwin among the group.

The bastards were getting away!

Your first thought is to call the MPs, but seeing that there were MPs and security guards among the people evacuating the prisoners, they might already be infiltrated.

The impact rattles the entire vehicle with a loud CRUNCH as you're jerked forward from the momentum, only held back by your seatbelt. The airbag immediately deploys right into you and Vicky's faces as an extra measure of protection. You quickly recover and push the rapidly deflating airbag aside, and are glad to see that the impact had crushed the front axle of the truck inwards, making it next to impossible to drive.

The front of the sedan looked surprisingly intact, through. Did it have camouflaged armor? That seemed really handy.

Suddenly, you hear more thumping as bullets impact the side of the sedan in rapid succession, thus confirming the sedan was in in fact armored.

Thankfully, despite all her wailing, Vicky is able to pull away from the group and into cover.

"That was so scary!" Vicky wipes a torrent of sweat from her brow. "If this car wasn't armored, we'd totally be pincushions now!"

"Well, it's a good thing you know how to find a quality car, huh?" You laugh.

However, that laugh was cut short when you hear the familiar whine of drone engines. You look out the window and see one seemingly making a beeline straight for the sedan.

No... It couldn't be specifically singling you out... could it?

"DRIVE, VICKY!" You bellow.

"We'regonnadie!" Vicky wails as she hits the accelerator again. "What is it this time!?"

"A drone!" You grunt as you peer out of the rear window. Sure enough, the white, angular craft was starting to tail you.

"How can it be following us!" Vicky groans.

"Someone probably marked us when we hit their truck!" You explain. "This car is pretty easy to spot visually, now that I think about it."

"SO WHAT DO WE DO!?" Vicky cries.

You hate to do this, but you pull out your emergency transmitter and turn it on.

"Hey there, Mimi!" Amy's insufferably smug voice calls out. "Got yourself into some trouble, did ya?

"Just a bit, Auntie Amy." You respond coolly, your eye twitching at her using that annoying nickname.

"Lemme guess. You're in the base that's getting totally pounded." Amy chuckles.

"Yes. We're in a black sedan and we're being chased by drones. Mind lending us a hand?" You sigh loudly.

"Of course I will! Can't let anything bad happen to Karla's 'squire', right?"

Suddenly, you hear a loud, thunderous BRRRRRRRRRT. A stream of tracers lances into the drone, shredding it apart like paper. Scant seconds later, an A-10 Warthog bearing the mark of a large, U-shaped magnet blasts by, tagging more drones with its oversized cannon.

"Fuckin' drones, man! I always kept telling everybody they were a bad idea!" Amy grunts as her A-10's cannon spits more volcanic fire.

Well, one thing you could count on more than Amy's love for mass destruction of ground targets was her universal distaste for drones.

Anyways, that put the pressure off of you from the air.

"We gotta stop that prison break!" You tell Vicky. "Loop back around to the prison wing!"

"A-again?!" Vicky gulps.

"There's an armory nearby in case of of a riot." You tell her. "We can grab some gear there and go on in!"

"F-fine!" Vicky groans as she turns the sedan around.

The two of you head back into the prison wing. The front guard station is completely empty. A bad sign. As you head in, you see all of the doors to the holding cells all open, no signs of force. Definitely an inside job.

You also find the bodies of several guards. Guys who weren't in the loop, you were sure. Fortunately, the prison breakers didn't completely strip them of their gear. You manage to find a keychain off one of them and lead Vicky to the armory.

"T-this is so not right!" Vicky shivers. "W-we aren't trained for this!"

"Yeah, well nobody else is around to solve this." You grunt as you hand her a bulletproof vest.

"Still, I think we're way over our heads." Vicky shakes her head as she picks up a riot shield.

You glance to the equipment rack and pull a shotgun off of it. You check the shells stocked next to it, which were a mix of nonlethal beanbag shells and lethal buckshot shells.

You slam in as many buckshot shells as you can and jam an extra box of them into your pocket.

"Okay, let's go!" You instruct Vicky.

"R-right!" Vicky nods as she leads the way, riot shield raised.

You reach the first holding cell. Empty.

Second holding cell. Empty.

However, upon reaching the third cell, you're greeted with a grisly sight.

Everybody in the cell was gunned down, blood splattered all over the walls and floor. From the way their bodies had fallen, they didn't even know what had hit them. Their "rescuers" pretty much shot them on sight.

"W-what?!" Vicky gasps.

Damn! I looked like OB wasn't interested in rescuing ALL of the prisoners-

Wait, what about Annelise?!

Suddenly, you hear gunshots and a scream down the hall.

"Hurry Vicky, HURRY!" You yell.

"I'm going!" Vicky says as she hustles.

Both you and Vicky barge into Annelise's cell and are immediately met with a gruesome sight. You see two dead men dressed as guards. Whether they were real guards or OB operatives, you weren't sure, but you could see Annelise curled up in the corner of the cell.

You take a quick look at the guards. One had his throat cut open. The other still had a handmade shiv sticking out of chest. Their guns were unholstered and still in their hands. They were probably the execution squad.

You go check on Annelise. You couldn't see any obvious wounds, but she was completely out of it. Catatonic, apparently, as her eyes were wide and blank.

Suddenly, you hear a buzzing from the guards' radios.

Hunter 2-5, what is your status? Have the targets been eliminated? Hunter 2-5, respond!"

Crap, it looks like they might send reinforcements back here to finish the job. However, Annelise was in no condition move on her own. You or Vicky would have to carry her if you wanted to bug out.

"Amy! Amy!" You call out on the radio. "We need to evac Amy from the prison! Please tell me Tarin is somewhere nearby!"

"Yeah, she should be around!" Amy confirms.

"I'm entering the base right now." Tarin says calmly. "I'm heading to the prison wing but it will take me a while."

"Okay, okay." You glance at Annelise and Vicky.

Someone had to carry Annelise. If it was Vicky, she wouldn't be able to wield her riot shield for defense. If you carried her, you wouldn't be able to use your shotgun...

You don't hesitate as you fire off your shotgun down the hall. You see one of the infiltrators eat a blast and fall over, forcing the others to take cover. You keep up your suppressing fire until you and Vicky make it through the front door, which you slam shut.

Just on time, Tarin pulls up front in a jeep.

"Get in." She says simply.

You don't need any more prompting. Vicky lays Annelise down in the backseat while you ride shotgun. Tarin the hits gas and starts speeding away.

"Wait, what about the rest of the prisoners?" You ask.

"They executed a number of them and the remaining ones escaped on foot." Tarin narrows her eyes. "Looks like they didn't want any dead weight or potential loose lips."

Sounded like the classic OB you knew.

"Anyways, it's not worth trying to pursue them. The drones will just prioritize us." Tarin glances at Annelise. "Looks like she needs help, too."

"Let's get back to Karla's place!" You tell her. "OB's already infiltrated the base. Who the hell knows where else they've wormed their way in!"

"Understood." Tarin nods as she swerves to head to one of the exit gates.

Overhead, Amy's A-10 flies a protective pattern over you, knocking down any drones that happen to get too close. Band and Misono seem to pick up on this and assist as well, keeping the airspace above you free and clear.

You glance at the backseat to see Vicky carefully cradling Annelise in her arms. You couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for her. Not only did she get dumped by OB, they even tried to terminate her to keep her quiet.

She was going to be in for a rude awakening, you were sure...
