In the depths of cyberspace, a young Digital World is born. Roughly 1 terabyte of data is contained in this globe.

Lining the bottom are [BLACK GEARS], mechanisms that grind up data and release it into the Digital World, providing the fledgling data within with much needed sustenance.

The data they provide is more dense and more nourishing the closer you get to the gears, and less dense near the top as the data is filtered through the creatures that consume it. However, as much as they provide life, they also pose a danger as any entity that gets too close becomes ground up as well.

Any data that doesn't get consumed coalesces into clouds and eventually, the clouds coalesce into Data Storms, raining down the Digital World as much more dense data than normal, allowing the fledgling AIs to grow in a frenzy.

Such are the ebbs and flows of growth in the digital world.

These are the starters for the evo today.

1) The Tane:

The Tane are the 'plants' of the Digital World and thus, occupy the lower area, near the [BLACK GEARS]. They are able to absorb the data the [BLACK GEARS] provide and take it into themselves. They grow until they're about double the size they started with, then use the data they have to program a copy of themselves.

They don't have a means of movement, their location being subject to the flow of data in the Digital World.

2) The Toko:

The 'herbivores' of the digital world. They are unable to consume the data provided by the [BLACK GEARS], and must consume the Tanes in order to grow. As such, they occupy the middle tiers of the Digital World, where the weak and underfed of the Tanes are, though they may occasionally venture to the bottom tiers where they glut on the fattest of the Tanes.

To move, they wiggle their bodies ineffectively to move towards their targets.

In order to reproduce, they pair, then share the common parts of their program into a copy that is the average of the two parents' code.

3) The Tsuno

The Tsuno are the 'Carnivores 'of the Digital World. Unable to process the data of the plants, as well as the data provided by the [BLACK GEARS], they engage in cannibalism, as well as consuming Tokos. They move similarly to Tokos, wriggling their bodies to move towards their target. However, their headfin is made of Propulsion data, allowing them to move slightly faster than their prey by generating currents in the material of the Digital World.

They reproduce similarly to Tokos with the exception that their young don't have the headfin and thus, must be fed by their parents with pre-processed data.

The Tracking Tsuno has gained the ability to locate prey. Unfortunately, it locates prey with no regard to distance or any obstacles in it's way, so although it now has direction to it's movement, it's also got a penchant for getting stuck on Tanes or starving to death before it reaches it's target Toki.

Flanes can be found in groups called 'Conflagrations', which can be anywhere from 2 to 50 Flane sharing a storage folder.

They're found in the border between the Lower and Middle digital world and their flames act as a firewall that prevent the harmful Viral Data of DeStakons from entering the higher parts of the digital world.

This has two side effects: The Conflagrations concentrate viral data in the lower parts of the digital world, making it almost inhospitable to anything that isn't a virus

AND

it makes it almost impossible to migrate from the Middle part of the digital world to the Lower part of the digital world and vice versa unless the AI has an adaptation for controlling flame data.

The flanes themselves can safely devour viral data by searing it with their flame, making it inert.

Meanwhile, the reproductive role is shifted entirely to the Anchor program who will give birth to 'Arrow Arrayne' Digiforms or 'Anchor Tane' Digiforms respectively.

Some Bina never actually end up dying due to pure luck and their healthy diet of Vaccine data. This causes them to build up an immense amount of memory and data, eventually resulting in a system malfunction. Cracks form in the Bina's outer shell and its code self corrupts and multiplies endlessly. These Bina are now referred to as CRAZED BINAs, and are a menace. Their excess data forms into tentacles that flail around them violently with strands of data sticking out of the ends. If this attaches to a creature a massive overflow of data is sent into their system, causing either causing the target to have many of its primary functions accidentally deleted as its internal system struggles to keep up with this, or the whole structure collapses and the creature's excess data helps to elongate the Crazed Bina's tentacles. Crazed Bina's don't do much other than exist in a stationary position though, serving as rogue data land mines.

If you're feeling sluggish, it's probably because of Timegear clusters. Because time manipulation abilities proved to be too resource-consuming, they've resorted to slowing down the processing power of their preferred Black Tanes.

However, one Timegear won't do much. It takes a large cluster to do any significant damage.

Because they've reduced their resource consumption quite a bit, one or two Tanes can feed an entire cluster.

In areas abundant in digirain and few in predators- as well as their malformed cousins denying them their life-giving rain- the odd Colfros will grow fat on nutrients: giving rise to “Big Colfros”. This larger species is not only well suited to a quiet life absorbing rain, but it’s excess data provides a veritable oasis for digital plant-eaters. Allowing for multiple feedings from the same organism. A symbiotic relationship forms between Big Colfros and it’s smaller siblings, as the larger organism draws predators away from them.

The magnificent Toking gains a more streamlined form, their large ray-like wings carrying them easily on air currents- or the digital equivalent- while utilizing little energy. With less energy dedicated to keeping themselves moving, Toking are able to utilize primitive whiskers to stash nearby food sources while in motion.

The Toking's crown, despite its golden color is actually a potent virus. It seeks out vulnerable Data Anchors and redirects its processing power to the Toking.

Using the ability makes the Toking ravenously hungry, and so it eats the Data Tokins forced to manifest into the digital world once it wrests control of the Data Anchor away.

Despite being a meat eater, its viral nature still forces it to eat Black Tanes so as to replenish its viral energy, so it's lucky that the data anchors tend to be infested by Tadevils.

While all its front teeth are sharp for eating Tokins, its back molars are actually all flat to better process Black Tanes.

EVENT

With the rise of the great firewall and the Colfros line, the Digital World becomes divided into four zones.

From top to bottom, these are:

The Frost Zone:

Filled with the Colfros line and Typhoons, this region is extremely cold and as such, take a toll on its inhabitants' processing power. It's almost as if time has slowed.

Digital clouds no longer form and data has taken on the form of frost which takes some finagling to process.

The Wind Zone:

Although of average temperature due to being situated between the Frost Zone and the Heat Zone, the Wind Zone is buffeted by constant winds due to being situated between two extreme temperatures.

The wind here is strong enough that any digiforms not adapted to the wind can be destroyed by the winds' constant erosion of data.

Most mons are either here or in the Heat Zone

The Heat Zone:

At the bottom of the Heat Zone is the great firewall, which makes the Heat Zone constantly sweltering hot.

More complicated AIs may find themselves overheating unless they streamline their data and remove unnecessary bloat.

Most mons are found either here or in the Wind Zone.

The Virus Zone:

With the presence of the Great Firewall, viral data is concentrated in this zone, unable to pass into other zones.

Any digiforms not specifically adapted to this environment will find their data corroding as the thick slurry of viral data in the air eats away at their bodies.

The Virus Zone is the domain of the gear-like Hagearcos and their descendants, as well as the pillar-like Destakons and their cousins, the cable-like Decultans.

From now on, please take these habitats into consideration and include the habitat you're adapting for in your post or in the image.

Any digiforms not adapted to any of the habitats by the next event will become extinct.

The BlackPals being already highly adapted to the presence of the high quantities of Virus data found in the Virus Zone have mostly done well for themselves. The main problem they've been experiencing is the lack of territory on the gear fragments to roost on. To solve this issue the BlackPals have developed an insidious solution. The BlackPal will release large amounts of data into the air, this data is quite like the data given off by the [BLACK GEARS] with one crucial difference, it’s nigh unusable junk data. To most tanes this data seems like the normal data given off by the [BLACK GEARS] and will happily absorb. Over time though this junk data will build up in the tane and cause it too crash. While this technique works on many of the similar Tanes of the Virus Zone the BlackPal prefers to overload Flanes and Laflas that block the access to fragments in the upper zone, causing the zone to expand in the process.

Cave Tanes have developed a way to encrypt their files such that it can't currently be hacked by Black Tanes. While the data stream is still vulnerable in transit, the encrypted files are not. Because the encryption method is much more dense and data saving, the skin of the Tane has become much tougher as a result.

Firedancers are Sailing Blacktanes that have fallen a great height from the Wind Zone to the Great Firewall.

Their bottom halves are covered in something called Devil Metal, however, since the material is high-cost, they can't afford the processing power to cover their entire bodies with it.

They prey on the Data Streams of Laflas, and look like they're dancing on fire while they feed, hence the name.

With the increased density of viral data in the lower zones where the DeStakons live, these digital plants have had to adapt. The DeStakon now has vents that open up on the topmost pillar, with excess Viral data being filtered out of their systems and expelled into a concentrated cloud above them. To avoid data leakage and erosion the DeStakon has also developed a series of Password Locks all over its system. This helps to keep its healthy data from branching out and being sapped away via the previous tentacle method, as well as helping to somewhat protect it against viruses who would seek to attack this system. The physical chains of the passwords have helped the DeStakon's ability to grow taller as well, with the oldest members being able to reach just above the Heat Zone and, ironically enough, serve as the only method for viral data to reach the uppermost zones.

Data from a Chinese server has changed the Destakon. While it starts off mostly looking like its previous form, when it's ready to reproduce, a dragon head-shaped cap begins to form, covering its exhaust.

Once the cap is fully formed, the viral pressure inside it continues to increase and when it finally bursts, it hits the Great Firewall, seeding folders with its viral load.

These seeded folders will sink down and grow into new Destakons.

To deal with the truly massive amounts of viral data trying to breach the firewall, Tashnes switch to higher intensity blue flames and cauterize the data into ash. This leaves significant amounts of bloated junk that physically stops the viruses along with the regular firewall, but the Tashnes reproduce much slower than Flanes.

They are mostly seen soon after DeStakons launch their dragon caps, plugging up the holes with fire and ash.

Tashlinks are Tashnes that have been networked, usually in groups of 3 to 5.

The head Tashne which has a crystal on its head, uses its processing power to direct the Tashlink to potential breaches in the Firewall, while the other Tashnes focus their resources on food production unless actively fixing a breech.

This way, the networked Tashnes can save on processing power while still doing their job.

The Tokibomber MK 1 is an incredibly advanced cloud Toki. The RODs now have enough storage space to create an all-new body for it, though the old wireframe is still below its body. The tokibomber uses a mixture of viruses and antiviruses inside bullets that it fires to destroy anything in the area (except if it is in the Virus Zone.) It then chomps it into pure data with its sterilized teeth which removes any viruses from the data. The Tokibomber also kills enemies of the RODs such as >>4208276 (which the RODs have not found a way to block or assimilate). The Tokibomber flies by expelling rays using a miniature ROD.

Frosmaras are Maras that have the ability to temporarily network in order to produce antivector shields that defend their Rodevil from the assaults of >>4208578

However, since these are only point defenses, they're not usually effective.

Furthermore, the Maras can't network indefinitely as it strains their processing power to the point that it can destroy them if they network for too long.

This is somewhat mitigated in the cases where there are multiple Rodevils giving them power, but such occurrences are rare to the extreme.

A result of using both viruses and antiviruses in one body, the corrupted Tokibomb Mk. 1 is a victim of its own immune system.

The mixing of viruses and antiviruses has left it without the ability to use either, relying on simple kinetic charges fired at its targets.

These kinetic charges take a while to generate as they're made of whatever metal data they can scrap together from the Tanes they eat, so these corrupted forms are one-shot wonders.

On top of being mostly useless, they take an unnecessarily huge amount of space on their host ROD's processing systems, unable to be compressed without being destroyed.

The Punis of the Heat Zone are significantly less inclined to rub one out around a Blacktane than the Punis of old, and so the Firedancers had to abandon their pollination strategy and take matters into their own hands.
They now possess a two-stage lifecycle; most Firedancers spend their entire life never maturing from the Larval, or female, stage, in which they are capable of gathering the data of Laflas and budding off new Firedancers, but are unfortunately not very mobile at all. Those who amass enough data, however, may undergo metamorphosis into the majestic Imago stage, equipped with a pair of illustrious burning wings which it can use to travel great distances. The Imago will spread it's dataseeds wherever it goes, impregnating hundreds of Firedancers across vast expanses with it's young, until it runs out of energy and promptly dies.

Other Firedancers have solved the toxicity problem by using their viral data as a fuel rather than a bodypart, using it's ability to spontaneously combust to their own advantage. They are now able to achieve ludicrous speeds and cover much greater stretches of territory, now impregnating thousands of Firedancers before running out of energy. There is a downside though: the burning data produces acrid Meme Fumes. Most of the fumes disperse before they can cause any harm, but when a Firedancer nears the end of it's life it will fly much closer to the firewall to conserve energy, and the fumes can seep into the virus zone.

The corrosive properties that are usually applied to it's Tokibomb host, when turned against an unlucky blacktane or Tokin, are capable of eliminating them in a matter of seconds. All those droppings make it pretty hard for viral gases to get through the tube, so the Sneezing Chalice has developed a way to throw them off itself; it fills an internal bladder with antivirus data, then, when it detects that too many droppings have accumulated on it's lid, it lets a tiny amount of viral data seep into that bladder; the resulting data bloat expands the bladder significantly, causing air to be jettisoned out of the canal and push off the droppings. The strategy's main problem is that it takes quite a while for the bladder to "calm down" and return back to it's normal size.

While the Farmer Exiles grow their Pill Tanes, it's the Hunter Exiles' job to keep Darknis away from the crops and the Tsunots away from the Farmer Exiles.

They have shorter bodies and have big ol' legs for stomping. They also lack the Farmer caste's distinctive antivirus nozzles.

They're omnivores, eating both what they hunt and what the Farmer Exiles give them.

As the Trolltan safely feeds on data rain within Window Space, it gains enough processing power to manage several of its tools at a time. It has eyes all over the Digital World, micromanaging window placement for places with the hungriest entities.

Farmer Exiles have much daintier feet than their Hunter counterparts in order to not disturb the crops. Fed properly, Farmer Exiles can produce truly prodigious amounts of Antiviral fluid.

Ore Tanes are put up on cave walls by the tsunots and gain their excretions luminescence. Farmer Exiles really want them so tsunots gain more prey.

The Ore Tanes are mildly discolored however

There is a sickening grinding sound as the Black Gears halt. Unable to process the waste products of the digiforms, filth piles up on the gears and the floating gear pieces.

The Digital World considers the project a failure, but not a complete one. It builds an Ark to save what it can as it prepares to format itself for a new age.

RULES:

Every ID has 3 rolls to allocate.
Roll a 1d8 for every creature you want to save.
A creature that has no saving rolls goes extinct as the Digital World resets.
You can use as many rolls as you want to save a creature, even if it already has failed rolls.

Base DC is 5.
Subtract 1 if the creature is a plant.
Subtract 1 if the creature is an omnivore.
Subtract 1 if the creature has multiple growth stages.
Add 1 if the creature is parasitic.
Add 1 if the creature doesn't have any adaptations to deal with parasites.
Add 1 if the creature uses heat in the Frost Zone or uses cold in the Heat Zone.

I'll roll another one for Deschatons. I love the variety.

I'd like to roll to save the two exiles, and if allowed, this version of the Midnight, for the sake of further branching.

DCs are 6 for each, since they have no parasite adaptations.
