"Yes your grace but... the horse? This is going to be a stealth mission."
Confidently looking into the distance he replies.
"Stealth? I was thinking something more along the lines of 'search and destroy'. Leonardo can trample skeletons easily, don't underestimate him. Besides, the moment one skeleton sees us the entire army will immediately know our position anyway."
Alina gingerly steps up to the mounted Archduke. "It's an honour to fight by your side sire."
"Ha, Always a pleasure to ally myself with Apples, miss Brewer. I'm glad to have all of you at my side. Now, time is fleeting. Any further questions?"
"Can I ride your horse?" asks Ulric.
"You may not! Giddy up!"
He sends his steed into a brisk marching pace, the rest of you fall in behind.

A short distance from the kasbah, Lockridge activates a magic scroll. The arcane text dissapears from the paper, to be replaced by a map. The ink flowing like it's a living thing, updating the map as you move.
"Not too far, this way."
Down the stoney streets a small company of undead march straight towards you. A wide mix of weaponry is visible even from this distance.
"Skeletons! They're coming right for us!" shouts Ulric, he raises his hands to cast a Fireball but it fizzles. "My fireball isn't working!"
"There's too much magic resistance in that group." The Archduke comments, "Shawn, what can you detect with your magic sense?"
"My name is Shawel sir. I can't sense anything at this distance."
"The Lich isn't with them. Destroy them all. Christof, Alina. Protect me and my horse, I'm going to ram them."

You cast Immunity to Weapons[Slashing] on Leonardo.
Alina casts Protection on Archduke.

Bolts fly nonstop. The Icewall crumbles away.
Archduke Lockridge: "Charge Leo!"
He breaks into a full gallop, charging straight into the enemy formation. The pikes and swords deflect harmlessly off the steed. He punches straight through the enemies knocking over many and seemingly trampling a couple.

"Behind us!" Warns Shawel. You spin, to see another sizable squad of skeletons charging in from behind. "So many!" Says Ulric, "I didn't think the Lich could amass this many so fast!"

The Archduke is fairly far, but a professional Abjurer such as yourself can still cast spells on him from this distance. Alina's spells probably aren't efficient enough to cast at this distance.
He's certainly close enough to hear you shout.

"Ball them Ulric!"
The magic resistance of one suit of Mercury Armour isn't enough. Ulric successfully casts the spell smoking the entire squad for 25 damage.
You turn back to call the Archduke back.
"YOUR GRACE! CHARGE BACK THROUGH THEM TOWARDS US!"
Looks like he already had that in mind. He tramples through the crowd again, this time being hit by some sort of necromancy touch-spell as he goes.
"Shawel! Block them off!"
"Understood."
Another white wall raises from the road. The undead behind immediately start attacking it.
You cast Magic Missile on the skele-wizard but the infantry in front are blocking you and you hit one of them instead.
Alina fires a trio of arrows and gets the same problem.
The flankers advance into melee range. Except the wizard who starts summoning. He casts Summon Monster III, calling forth a Xhykystcc.

Christof needs to smash skellies. Attack!
Alina needs to cast protection against slashing on herself, maybe back away. I don't think she's kitted put for melee.

You Power Attack the unarmoured skeleton for 30 damage crushing it. Its summoned creature dissapates immediately.
Alina moves away from melee range and begins firing with her Scarlet Bow.
Ulric takes several hits, but his Gold Armour is holding up well.

>Use rod of wind wall on the alley up north when skellies get closer, blast the skeletons back
Good plan, I think, and it's something that the wind might actually be able to do.

Archduke can maybe help Ulric with the three skellies, if not charging the southern ones before ice wall works.

Shawel can trap the southern skellies and bottleneck the east ones when they break through. This is important I think.

Alina can thin out the ranks with her bow, prioritizing the ones on our ass if she can, if not, any smashed skelly is a good smelly.
Ulric can swords defensively! This is only the beginning of the fight!

You use the rod of Wind Wall to block off the northern alley. Although the skeletons are human sized they don't seem to be able to pass through it. They stand in a line waiting for it to dissipate.
Shawel's Ice Wall shatters and the skeletons immediately rush forward over the remains. She quickly erects a new one to block the enemies coming from the southern pass.
Ulric Defends.
Archduke reloads his Hand Cannon.
Alina shoots Mercury Skeleton with a Holy Arrow for 38 damage, destroying it.

The undead are closing in. The new Ice Wall is already being hacked away.

And Archie needs to handle some of those skellies. I would recommend a charge if he has room, or another hand cannon blast.
>>

I vote for hand cannon blast.

>"Alina, Ulric, look to the south! Lich on the rooftop!"
Alina fires a volley and Ulric casts a Fireball, wiping out the wizard before he has a chance to cast.

You move up to the front and smash the Mercury Skeleton but don't get a great hit in.
Archie fires point blank at the injured skeleton to his right, destroying it.

Shawel creates a new Ice Wall as the previous one is torn down.
One of the Skeleton warriors manages to land a critical on the archduke, shearing right through his Gold Armour and Protection spell.
"I've been struck! Defend your king!"
Leonardo continues to kick violently with a bloodthirsty neigh.

Archie rears his steed to retreat. You rush in to block the pursuing skeletons and Defend, fending off their attacks. What little damage you take is returned by your Thorned Armour.
>"Relieve us, Ulric, Alina!"
Ulric moves in to attack while Alina starts firing at the closest skeleton.
The Archduke uses a Healing Potion on himself a safe distance away from the fight.

The horse charges straight through what remains of the wind wall and tramples all four of the skeletons.

The skeleton in front of you critically slashes your eyes, severely damaging you for 33 damage. Your Thorned Armour deals 20 damage to the attacker destroying it.

Ulric heals you for 27 health.
Shawel casts Scorching Ray on Skeleton doing 20 damage, frying it.
You attack northwards but miss.
Alina fires a volley at the same skeleton doing a total of 10 damage.

Another Ice Wall Crumbles, exposing you to a bunch of ranged attackers.

(We'll say Shawel can move 5 tiles, 3 is pretty slow for someone with 100 Athletics)

You order everyone to move forward past the Ice Wall.
The Archduke charges right up to the archers. They scatter like emus. One flees into a nearby building. Another up an alley.

The ice wall crumbles! "Block them off Shawel!" You shout. But Alina and Shawel herself haven't run far enough yet. Shawel places an Icewall in the empty space available, but the skeletons rush out and swarm Alina who was lagging behind.

The Mummy Heart is full of disgusting black "immortality ichor". If you consume it, it causes temporary super regeneration, healing wounds and regrowing lost limbs. If you drink/eat it while healthy the regeneration becomes dormant and triggers automatically when you suffer lethal injuries.

"Are you awake Ulric?"
He barely mutters an affirmation.
"Drink this" You uncork the regeneration vial and put it to his lips. His eyes full open and with your help sits up.
The two ice walls behind you schlorp into puddles, Shawel and Alina hustle over.
Alina: "Are you alright Ulric!? You poor thing."

Not wanting to anger the noble or side against Ulric you try your best to diffuse the tension.
"My brother in arms has the heart of a saint and has made a rash action, I am sure we will prevent such mishaps from happening again."
Several seconds of silence.

[Charisma] You can feel tension radiating from the Archduke. His brow and shoulders are tight, his usual kingly posture looks more like an evil advisor hunch. You can't really tell the full extent of the personal significance this quest has to him but he's obviously getting stressed. Also did he just call himself a "king" a minute ago? At least you're not feeling any malice from him.

>The +10% to all rolls from Archduke's Leadership II feat is no longer in effect.

Ulric stands and gives a polite little bow. "I wont let us down my grace."
The would be king straighten up a little and clears his throat.
"I know you wont." He unrolls his tracking scroll, "the Lich is coming straight to us now. Forward march, I wont have the enemy choose our arena."

You take in your surroundings quickly. Although you have a strong aversion to disrespecting a social superior you feel no qualms about second guessing his tactical choices. There's a large temple to the gods back the way you came, perhaps fighting on holy ground will disadvantage the undead? Your current location is excellent for Shawel's ice walling to control the enemy movement.
The area ahead, is unknown ground. You're a little concerned disagreeing with the Duke's decision will go poorly given his psychological state.

Not sure yet, it depends on how Seeker ends.
Though if you put the successor in a setting that is detached from the happenings here you could make a quest that wouldn't need reading Seeker in the archives, and draw in newguys

>trust in the Archduke

Withdrawing to the temple leaves us to defend as the lich attacks us as it will or won't and the benefit is speculative.

This spot is good but enemy knows we're here and can adjust tactics before it arrives.

We need to find a new advantage and press it.
It might not be the right move, but Archie will not settle for idly building a defense and waiting, I think.

Boo fricking hoo.

Seriously though, lurkers should post *something* even if they don't want to vote.
Even just an "L" or "Lurking" to let the QM know that there are invisible eyes upon him that are interested.
Just saying.

"We follow your lead, Your Grace."
You advance forward to meet you enemy.

>For crushing your enemies you gain 15825 XP
>You now have 99285
>You have gained a level!
>gained 4 max hp
>gained 20 kill points

You advance to some sort of plaza, without any people or merchant stalls it's just a barren square save for a dry water fountain in the middle.
You note there's some dirt beds dotted around in case you want to use the dragon tooth.
"Christof." The Archduke gets out some magic scrolls. "Can you cast 'Break Enchantment'?"
You shake your head, "I can't, it's a high level spell."
"Take these scrolls, if someone gets Polymorphed or Petrified, use this on them."

>Gained Scroll of Break Enchantment (3)
"My thanks."
"I'll try to protect us with my Magic Amulet, but it's better to be safe."
He checks his map, and quickly looks back to you.
"He's coming. This Lich specialises in Transmutation. Every time I've fought him he's had a Philosopher's Stone, he uses it to turn your weapons and armour into a useless metal and turns his own bones into steel. Destroy the stone if you get the chance, it's very easy to break."

(Pick one)
>"What does your Amulet do?"
>"Can he use other types of magic?"
>(Persuade) "Can you share your scroll inventory to me?"
>"How much damage does it take to kill the Lich?"
>"What tactics does this Lich usually use?"
>"What spells can he cast?"
>"Write in."

Good quest. I still remember when we got that blond girl who somehow became a ranger. We used the big guy line with the father.

>Can we set a ambush? Lure in a trap and our best ranger/wizard shoots his stone

This. Ask him if an ambush would be viable

There are a bunch of buildings with balconies around that an archer/wizard could attack from. The destroyed fountain and dirt beds are far too short to use as obstacles or hide behind them.
The lich approaches from the east.

>"Your grace, would an ambush work? We could smash the stone before he knows what hits him."
"Could work. But 1 - The Philosopher's Stone is small, it's hard to hit. 2 - The Lich has excellent magic sense. He'll be able to detect You, Shawel, and Alina because of your spellcasting abilities. Ulric and I would only be able to hide from him if we carried no magic items."
He jangles his necklace.
"This amulet in particular is like a beacon for him."
Shawel: "It has an alien scent, like that little Stone Knight."

>(Persuade) Ask the Archduke to leave his magic item with you and act as the ambusher
>Have Ulric act as an ambusher
>Position Alina at one of the balconies

Red dot - Stone Knight
Green dot - Ulric hiding in potential ambush
Alina goes on the left balcony
The rest of us stay in the back
Plan might be shitty so if anons have other suggestions...

Seems legit.

>Green dot - Ulric hiding in potential ambush
He should be hiding closer to Stone Knight. He's got a sprinting range of 4 tiles. He needs to be close enough to run up and smash the Philosopher's Stone.

Also, we need to block the north entrance and south entrances with ice.
Maybe the Northeast balcony too if it's accessible from outside the plaza.
Time permitting of course.

If Ulric is going to ambush, he's gotta go braless. Someone else should wear it. Probably Christof.

Good points but you might be overextending Shawel with ice. I don't exactly remember how much ice she can put down
>>

>might be overextending Shawel with ice. I don't exactly remember how much ice she can put down
Fair enough. We can add the North and southwest entrances if there is time and Shawel permitting.

Shawel is easy to take for granted...

Who's the hydromancer
That's an ice machine to all the "sirs"?
(Shawel)
You're damn right.
Who is the one that would risk their neck for their brother, son?
(Shawel)
Can ya dig it?
Who's the cat that won't cop out when there's danger all about?
(Shawel)
Right on.
You see this cat Shawel is a bad mother-
(Shut your mouth)
But I'm talkin' about Shawel
(Then we can dig it)
Such a complicated sprite that no one understands right but Dolomite
(Drawn Shawel)

I never know what tune these songs go to!

For the second time in two days you unequip your party member's bra. Scandalous!

You have time to equip it yourself, but it will replace your Xorag's Cape which protects you from critical hits.
Also it's... kind of embarrassing.

Shawel can create 4 ice walls before her chance of casting it successfully becomes zero.
>>
>>4250934
Your Ulric positioning is too exposed. He is meant to be sitting in the back and wait for a good opportunity, because the Lich isn't gonna be charging head-on. And too many walls will leave Shawel helpless

Shawel wont be able to cast Water spells at all while maintaining 4 Ice Walls but she can ditch all of them instantly if she desperately needs to. Her fire magic will still work.

Okay, this is what we got so far.
If you want to block the bronze doors, Hold Portal is an option.
Ulric has unequipped his Wicked Saber since it's magical and positioned behind the ice.
Alina uses the Gloves of Spider Climbing to sale up to the Balcony, then switches back to her Gauntlets of Archery.

Any last changes you want to make before the Lich arrives?
