Welcome to Mega Mercs.

This is a tactical turn based collective game where each player takes on the role of a mech pilot, vehicle crew or cavalry rider. To join read the rule sheet and then select a unit and loadout from the quick start sheet.

I would advise against a build that relies purely on drones and infantry to do the fighting. It's highly recommended that your primary unit mounts a weapon of it's own.

Here's a quick summary of some of the rules changes since the last game.

Notable Changes
>Datalinks have infinite range.
>Signature dampening and sensor equipment/abilities have had their values tweaked, generally both are higher.

Briefing:

“A week ago Neromius launched a large scale covert operation that crippled several of our costal defence units. This left key areas of our coastline vulnerable to invasion, and Neromius is doing just that. We thought we were safe behind our early warning radars and heavy missile batteries. Much of our military was preparing to deploy to meet the Neromian land invasion of neighbouring nations and to be honest we are in complete disarray.

Reports are coming in from across the coast; Neromian forces have already made land fall and are already pushing to consolidate their beachhead. Some of our forces have managed to set up defences but the bulk of our military is still in disarray. That is why we are currently hiring mercenary companies en-mass.

Your group will be tasked with reinforcing a unit holding a small port. Each port we manage to hold denies the Neromians the ability to land more troops and provides us with staging points for our own army and navy to secure the coast. You are to rendezvous with the infantry unit on site and protect the three air defence trucks from incoming attack waves. Several sections of coast have already fallen so they’ll be coming in from neighbouring AOs to the sides of this one.

The Neromians have not been able to land much in the way of heavy equipment just yet but their armoured cavalry units are easier to deploy and as dangerous as any main battle tank. I know the Neromians have a reputation for being violent barbarians, but make no mistake, they are not primitive. Their cavalry is likely to be supported by mobile gun platforms with electronic warfare capabilities. Further information can be found in the attached intelligence package.

Be prepared for anything mercenary, it’s chaos out there and the picture we have of the situation is far from complete. You better be worth the money, now get to work!”

very weird design, op. most of the units can hit each other for 10+ hp each turn (2/3+ of their hp) and can't recover after getting hit. that is, unless they get a shield or they're a Tegu but, even then, its two or three hits to kill at most.
Are we supposed to try to OHKO everything that gets into range before they can make attacks? Otherwise people will grind each other away pretty quickly, you can't really trade hits.

Based on Discord questioning and past erroneous movement commands it's occured to me that some of the map terrain is not as easy to read I I think it is.

Top Mech Hanger
Exits are the dark rectangles with little brown shapes on the side. The top hanger has these on the bottom, left and right sides.

Bottom Left Mech hanger
Exits are on the top, right and bottom sides.

Right Side Vehicle Bay
Exit is to the left.

Also: The mech hangers are low sloping buildings built into the ground like pic related while the right side tank bay with the tanks in it is taller.

All unit types can move up the sloped sides of the mech hangers and over the roofs while getting to the roof of the tank bay requires jump jets or mega cav with climb.

The enemy are upon you right from the start in this mission, I'd hate to see any of you squander your first turn attempting to move through a wall.

It looks like locking on takes an action, so the E-war should have been to lock onto the bear, not that Birbman needed the lock-on to hit.

That Bear's probably still alive though with 1 or 3 HP depending on how crit damage works, so someone's going to need to finish it off. The main cannon critted, but none of my HMG shots did.

I'm more than four tiles away from all visible Megacav, and their attention is currently focused on things in the direction opposite to me.
If by chance they swing out towards me or I run into another Megacav lurking in the fog of war, then I have an increased chance to evade.
I'm not exactly sure what you expected me to accomplish with a movement range of 10 spaces and a single attack. Though I am quite certain that any offensive maneuver that I could have made would have been needlessly reckless and led to a swift and messy demise, so yes, I'm spending this turn to reposition.

Okay we've been having a lot of smoke on the battlefield and I've just realised that I've never once explained how it works.

Smoke as generated by smoke launchers and similar equipment. (Not to be confused with the smoke coming off the wrecks, which is just cosmetic.) blocks line of sight through it. Targets in smoke but not behind it inflict a -20 accuracy penalty on attacks made against them.

Also: Wrecks
By now the battlefield has lots of wrecks on it. Wrecks grant cover to targets behind them in the form of -10 accuracy against incoming attacks and 1 damage reduction (which stacks with any DR from equipment.)

Wrecks are also difficult terrain for all movement types and cost 2 mobility to navigate unless you're a mega-cav with jump.

The piles of green and red boxes have similar cover and difficult terrain properties to wrecks.

For now I'm going to rule that the bales of fodder do not count as cover or difficult terrain.

Finally: The large wreck of the air defence truck in the bottom right of the map blocks line of sight and is impassable terrain.

On my end I've noticed a few things I want to change. Namely the temper mechanic for mega-cav. I actually just find it a huge pain in the ass to process and as a result I end up hoping nobody ever loses control.

For the next iteration I'm actually thinking of reducing the mega-cav action pool across the board and having the rider's control action grant more actions to the mount. I think this could have a better balancing effect on mega cav while reducing my mental load during processing.

Also: "I'm sorry about my chronic misprocessing. I will continue to do what I can to both stream line the ruleset and improve my processing technique."

Now for the feedback. I think Longbow missiles might be a bit underpowered and/or redundant. A single Longbow can't kill anything, so you'll need at least two, and then you can just use a HK instead. The 3 hex range difference is not really that decisive, because you could use the act freed from launching the second Longbow to move closer.
I don't remember how tough the aircraft are, if it's <6HP Longbows can have the niche of air defence.
