The Lighthouse War is over, but conflict still continues.

With Erusea's defeat at the hands of the Osean Federation and the International United Nations, the imperial nation has splintered into a confusing mess of separatists, freedom fighters, warlords, rogue military factions, and those seeking to profit from the chaos. Worse, Erusea's many automated drone factories still remain intact, waiting for new masters to come to claim them.

The Usean continent remains in crisis, and it's up to a new generation of pilots to face this next generation threat...

You are MILLY, the "Red Tail", a Belkan Air Force pilot fighting for the IUN!

Currently, you, Vicky, and Annelise were hurriedly being driven to the only safe place you knew, Karla's house. With the base under attack and the staff obviously having been infiltrated, you honestly didn't know where else to go.

Annelise was still in shock, just laying catatonic in the back seat as Vicky kept an eye on her.

Tarin, meanwhile, was at the driver's seat and keeping an eye out for trouble. Naturally, she doesn't make a straight shot for Karla's place, instead meandering through the city streets to shake off any potential tails. The main roads were also clogged with backed up traffic as the police locked down crossings, necessitating alternate routes.

"It doesn't look like we're being followed." Tarin notes calmly as she glances at the rearview mirror. "So is that girl one of the prisoners?"

"Um, well...." You pause. "Yeah, sorta."

Tarin then calmly tosses you a couple of zip ties.

"Use those on her arms and legs. We don't want her suddenly lashing out or anything."

"Restraining her might make her panic." You shake your head. "And we've seen what she's capable of when she's panicked."

"All right, but I'm trusting you to keep her under control." Tarin grunts as she makes another turn.

It seems like word of the raid on the base was starting to filter out to the general populace as more and more people were coming out onto the streets to gaze at the planes and columns of smoke rising above the airspace over the base. The crowd was making it all the harder to navigate the already clogged the streets.

"It feels like we're stuck." Vicky mumbles.

"Because we are." Tarin sighs. "Traffic is backed up everywhere, apparently."

"We're close the neighborhood, right?" You wonder.

"I wouldn't say it's close, but it's within walking distance." Tarin nods. "We'll be very exposed, though. And it won't be easy carrying the prisoner around without attracting notice."

"Right, better to stay in the car." You nod.

However, that doesn't change the fact that the trip over via car had basically been slowed to crawl. The roads were choked with damn rubberneckers who've stopped their cars in the middle of the road to gawk at the distant fighting. Meanwhile, the police weren't helping much, as they were shutting down intersections and crossings as a security measure. And the scarier thing was that you weren't completely sure whether they were secretly One Belka supporters or not. Things were that confusing and tense.

"It's been... kinda quiet." Vicky mumbles. "I wonder how the others are doing?"

"We're maintaining comms silence." Tarin explains. "We can get into contact once we get to our destination."

Yep, classic Tarin. Straight to the point.

Suddenly, as if you and Vicky were tempting fate, Annelise's eyes snap open. They dart from side to side as she tries to figure out what's going on from her surroundings, and the first thing she locks her gaze onto is Vicky.

"Ummm, ummm, everything's fine?" She says weakly.

Annelise quickly scrambles to the opposite side of the car, where she hastily tries to open the door, However, in a bit of foresight on Tarin's part, the child lock is engaged so she can't actually open it from the inside. However, that meant she was trapped in the car with you all.

Worse, she was trapped in the backseat compartment with Vicky.

"Of course not!" You hiss. "We just SAVED your ass, more like!"

"No... no." Annelise shakes her head. "This can't be happening. They were supposed to break us out..."

Annelise continues to scrunch up against the door, trying to maintain as much distance as possible in the enclosed space of the car.

"Sounds like something they'd say." You grunt. "They roped me in that same spiel too, you know. Telling you that you're their only hope, that you're vital to the cause. All that crap."

Annelise is quiet at that.

"Look, Annelise. I'm going to be straight with you." You give her a hard stare. "You're probably not all that different from me. You were angry, confused, and OB came along and told you what you wanted to hear. Get in the plane, fly it around for a bit. Then fly out and blow some things up. And every time they ask for a little bit more until you realize you're in too deep to go back."

"We're taking you somewhere safe." You assure her. "One of the last places OB would ever try to look for you."

"There isn't anywhere they can't go." Annelise mumbles. "That attack should be all the proof you need."

"Yeah, well, I can guarantee they won't come anywhere near where we're going." You grin. "You just gotta trust me!"

"That's asking a lot." Annelise narrows her eyes.

"Whether you trust us or not is immaterial." Tarin finally speaks up. "We're not deviating from our route. Plus, we're already here."

You glance at the windshield and realize that the car was now pulling up to Karla's house, the sight of which was doubly reassuring to you.

"Huh, guess we're here, then." You nod.

"It's just a friend's house." You tell her. Probably best not to give away that this was Karla's place just yet. You didn't want her completely panicking.

"Finally!" Vicky groans. "We can get changed out of these disguises!"

"I can take care of her from here." Tarin notes calmly. "You and Vicky should get some rest."

Annelise gives an anxious look to both you and Tarin, obviously still nervous. While Tarin did have a sort of... menacing air around her, she was pretty competent and you had no doubts she could keep Annelise under control, physically at least. Plus, you got the feeling that Annelise might still not be fully comfortable being around you.

But yeah, even you had to admit Tarin could be pretty damn scary, even if she didn't mean to.

"I think I'll stay with her." You say. "You should help out Vicky."

"You sure you're fine being alone with her?" Tarin raises an eyebrow.

"Yeah, I don't think she's going to try anything, right?" You turn to Annelise.

"...it's not like I have anywhere else to go." She replies quietly.

"Understood." Tarin nods. "Take her to the guestroom, then. I'll bring a change of clothes for the both of you later."

"Sure thing." You nod as you usher Annelise inside.

The house currently was empty. Elisa had school at this hour, and Karla and Jager were busy people. In fact, you figure the both of them were out to pick up Elisa, given how the whole city has been put on alert. This at least afforded some privacy for Annelise, and also meant Elisa wasn't going to ruin the moment by being the little shit that she was!

You show Annelise to the guestroom, and she pauses to inspect the room. Maybe she was curious, or perhaps she was looking for traps or recording devices. Those were hard habits to break, after all. However, Annelise finally relaxes just a bit and sits down on the bed.

"This house is... very nice." Annelise admits. "Do you come here often?"

"Often enough." You nod.

There's a brief, awkward pause for a few seconds.

"What did One Belka do to make you leave?" Annelise asks out of the blue, taking you somewhat off guard.

"Well, they DID try to toss me out of a helicopter once." You grunt, recalling how OB had kidnapped you once and held you hostage as leverage against Karla. Man, that was an experience that you would rather forget. It was thanks to Karla's intervention that you were even alive at all

"No way." Annelise shakes her head in disbelief.

"That's what they did to me, and what they'll ultimately do to you." You caution. "They only want your flying skills, and that's it. Once they get what they want they'll just toss you aside."

Annelise is quiet again as she seemingly contemplates what you told her.

"I.... I see." Annelise nods blankly as she listens to what you have to say. Not that she could do much else, honestly. However, it seems like the shock of what's happened today means what you're saying is starting to sink into her.

"Doing things the peaceful way may not be as exciting or quick, but at least it usually doesn't involve hurting other people." You nod. "Especially when it comes to tricking people into going to war against each other. It's the lowest of the low."

"I... should get some rest now." Annelise mutters, her eyelids fluttering. Damn, she must have been struggling to stay awake for a while, considering all the crap she had to go through today.

You head down to the kitchen, where you see Vicky with her head down on the table.

"How about we take a look at the data you recovered?" You ask.

"Nnnnnn, I guess." Vicky finally pulls her face off the table and slides a nearby laptop over slotting in the data drive. "I didn't get a chance to look at this but let's see what we have..."

You peek over Vicky's shoulder as she browses through the files, easily sifting through folders and lines of jargon as it were like child's play to her.

"Ah, we're really lucky the data isn't encrypted!" Vicky nods. "That saves us a lot of work!"

"So, anything good?" You ask, leaning in more.

"Um, well, it looks like there's two different files of interest." Vicky frowns. "One is some sort of weapons platform, the other is a location in the middle of the north sea. In the middle of nowhere."

"Let's see what that location marker is about." You say.

"Okay, checking..." Vicky frowns. "It's pretty far to the north of Belka, but Grunder lists it as the location of a 'research outpost.' What they're researching out there is anybody's guess, though."

"Well, can't you bring up a layout of the facility or something?"

"Bringing up the map..." Vicky nods. "Okay, there we go and- what?!"

The map begins to render on the screen, and you're caught off guard when you recognize what you're looking, as well. A single, large rail running along the top of a glacier and arcing into the sky.

"A space launch ramp!" Vicky blinks. "There was one there this entire time?"

"They must have been building it in secret." You scowl. "All the existing ones have either been decommissioned or are under international control."

Now it was starting to make sense. Those rocket boosters and sleds you found on Grunder's cargo ship. Was that where everything was being shipped to?

"Vicky, bring up that weapon data!" You nudge her shoulder. "That's probably the payload!"

"But what kind of weapon?" Vicky frowns. "From the positioning, that launch ramp isn't pointing towards Osea or Belka. Are they trying to put something into orbit?"

"Bring it up!" You hiss.

"Okay! Okay!" Vicky taps away at the keyboard and weapon schematics and reports begin popping up.

"W-what is this?" You feel the blood drain from your face.

"ARKBIRD II." Vicky squints. "A fusion of the Arkbird's spaceflight capability with the Arsenal Bird's offensive firepower. With its fully automated operations, third generation Strategic Laser System, in combination with a direct power supply from the International Space Elevator solar collection network, the ARKBIRD II may stay in orbit indefinitely with minimal impact to combat efficiency. The third generation SLS also removes the previous Arkbird's vulnerability of dropping into lower orbit in order to utilize its first generation laser capability."

"The bastards want to put an Arsenal Bird into space!" You exclaim.

"The regular ones are bad enough!" Vicky whimpers.

You're not gonna lie, even you're a bit intimidate at the mention of this thing. A souped up Arsenal Bird? Who the hell would want to fight something like that?!

"W-well maybe they never even built the thing yet!" Vicky says hopefully.

"I highly doubt that." Karla sighs as she enters through the backdoor. "They wouldn't have gone through all this trouble if they weren't intending to launch it."

"Gah!" Vicky yelps, startled by Karla's sudden presence.

"Oh, sorry about that." Karla says apologetically before turning to you. "Tarin told me everything. So Annelise is holed up here?"

"That's right." You nod. "She uh, doesn't actually know this is your house."

"Yeah, just complicate things even more." Karla groans. "Jager is taking Elisa over to Uncle's, given all the shit popping up in Dinsmark."

"Sorry to hear that."

"Comes with the territory." Karla waves it off. "So it looks like your snooping paid off."

"It looks like we've got the gist of their whole plan." Vicky nods.

"Great. If we send this to Belkan Security and the IUN, we may be able to nip this thing in the bud." Karla sighs.

"Whoa wait, you're gonna tell the IUN, Osea about this?" You blink.

"I can almost guarantee you that this... perversion of the Arkbird was assembled and is being stored at Grunder's HQ in North Osea." Karla narrows her eyes. "And the last thing anybody wants is Belkan planes flying into Osean airspace without warning."

I mean, we are gonna have to go to South Belka at some point anyway. It just doesn't seem particularly wise to let a hostile government get a hold of such a strong vehicle. We should either capture it or destroy it. If the Oseans try to crack down on the Anschluss vote later on I'd rather them not have this new toy. That would not be ideal

"They're gonna screw everything up!" You protest.

"Well, like or not, that's still Osean airspace, which means we'd need their permission to operate in there." Karla points out. "In addition, there's still that launch ramp up north. You're going to need a big navy to siege a facility like that and unfortunately, a big navy is something Belka doesn't have."

"Well, if we take out the launch facility, that thing will be useless anyways, right?" You point out.

"Um, the ARKBIRD II does have conventional turbine engines so it can transition to normal atmospheric flight." Vicky gulps. "Even if it can reach space, it can still cause a huge mess if it's set loose."

"And they'll be breaking that thing out very soon, if they were ballsy enough to attack Dinsmark Base in broad daylight." Karla scowls. "Either way, we have to pass it up to Uncle. He'll decide what to do with it from there."

Karla then leans forward towards the laptop and taps a few keys. You see a small progress bar fill up as the extracted data is repacked and sent off to Uncle's encrypted email address.

"I guess all we can do now is wait." Karla sighs and glances out the window. "Shit, it's getting dark already? This was a really long damn day."

For sure.

You then hear loud snoring, and you turn to see Vicky already passed out on the table.

"You should go get some rest too, Milly." Karla nudges your shoulder. "It's been a long day for you too, yeah?"

You're much more tired than you thought. You practically pass out the moment you lay down in bed next to Vicky.

The next time you open your eyes, you're almost afraid to see Annelise sitting in the room staring at you sleep, but thankfully that didn't happen. You and Vicky were still alone in the room.

However, during the night, you had found yourself having wrapped your arms around Vicky in what was admittedly a pretty damn intimate embrace, both of your bodies pressed against each other.

"M-Milly?" Vicky squeaks.

Oh, guess she was awake now, too.

You feel Vicky's body grow even hotter in your embrace.

"W-w-w-w-w-w-w-w-w-" Vicky stammers, clearly on the edge of completely freaking out.

You're just left dumbfounded for a few seconds as you take in the scene. The empty bed, the open window. Yeah, it was pretty clear that Annelise had taken off. Was she scared? Trying to get back with OB? You weren't too sure.

You quickly dash back to the kitchen, where Karla and Vicky were already getting breakfast prepped.

"Uh, it looks like Annelise bolted." You sigh.

"Oh, is that so?" Karla shrugs.

"You seem pretty nonchalant about this." You raise an eyebrow.

"There pretty much isn't anything that goes on in this house without Tarin knowing about it." Karla explains simply as she pours a glass of orange juice. "Don't worry, if you feel like going after her, I'll keep the food warm for you. Vicky, are you going, too?"

"O-of course I will!" Vicky quickly stands up in her seat.

"Well, have fun, you two. Try to play nice." Karla grins.

Both you and Vicky dash out of the back door. However, there's one thing you forgot-

"Which way do we go?" Vicky glances from side to side.

Honestly, there was only two directions Annelise could have gone. To the front was the main street. If she wanted to try and find a vehicle to commandeer or hitch a ride on, it would be that way. On the other hand, to the back, there was not only the large backyard, but a sizeable forested area that proved to be a great place to hide in once you hopped the fence. You remember Elisa always sneaking back there when playing hide and seek...

"Let's head to the back!" You say, making a beeline for the backyard. You dodge the swimming pool and the playground as you make your way to the rear end of the backyard, easily vaulting the wood fence.

"M-Milly!" You hear Vicky yelp.

You turn around and see that your poor, vertically challenged wingmate was simply too short to be able to scale the fence the same way you did. Her arms were barely even long enough to grip the top of the fence, much less climb over it.

"C'mon, Vicky." You roll your eyes as you head back and help pull her over the fence.

"W-well I didn't know the fence was going to be that high!" Vicky pouts. "A-and you better not tell the others about this!"

"Sure, sure." You chuckle as you glance around trying to look for any signs of which direction Annelise went.

You glance around, and are luckily able to spot a colored ribbon looped around a low branch. You quickly realize that it must be a marker left behind by Tarin.

"This way, Vicky!" You wave at her to follow you as you trudge through the fallen leaves coating the wild forest ground.

"H-how do you know it's this way?" Vicky asks, trying to keep up with you.

"Tarin left us a trail." You respond, your eyes looking for the next marker.

And you spot it. Another colored cloth loop. And another.

Soon enough, you catch up to Tarin, who is taking cover behind a tree. She sees you two approach and puts a finger to her lips, warning you both to stay quiet.

You shuffle over to Tarin and peek past the tree, where you see Annelise in a nearby clearing, trying to work with a mobile phone you're guess she stole from the house.

"What's she doing?" You whisper to Tarin.

"That's what I'm waiting to find out." Tarin whispers with a menacing tone.

"Is she calling for help?" Vicky wonders.

"I hope not." You glower.

You follow Tarin's lead and silently observe Annelise. She's still fiddling with the phone but she apparently finally manages to crack it. She quickly dials a number in and holds the phone up to her ear.

You're still too far away to actually hear what she's saying. However, now that she's gotten the phone working, Annelise seems to be distracted and isn't paying attention to her surroundings. Maybe you can move in closer to hear what she's saying.

Finally, you manage to crawl your way behind a fallen log, with Annelise just on the other side of it. She doesn't even notice your presence as you quietly eavesdrop on her call. Of course, you can't hear what the voice on the phone is saying, but you can definitely hear her.

"I say again, this is Agent END, requesting immediate extraction!" Annelise hisses into the phone. "L-look, how I managed to get out doesn't matter, okay? I'm out of the base and I want to get back!"

Damn, it seemed she really was trying to call her OB buddies! Extraction? Did she really believe that they were going to come out to pick her up?

"Where am I? Um, I'm not sure. You can track the signal on this phone, can't you?" Annelise continues.

You continue to stay still, trying to find out more.

"W-well, no, it's not my phone. I took someone else's." Annelise grunts. "I'll dispose of it after you get here, okay? I'm almost certain this phone isn't tapped, anyways."

Another pause, finally she breathes a sigh of relief.

"Understood, I'll standby until pickup." Annelise hangs up the phone and sits down on the log, her back turned to you.

Suddenly, you hear the sounds of rotors in the distance. They were seriously going to extract Annelise by air? They arrived on the scene awfully fast.

You glance upwards as Annelise stands up, hearing the sound as well. You see a small, white shape breach the treeline, and you could immediately tell it was no extraction helicopter.

It was an MQ-8 helicopter drone and it looked armed to the teeth.

"Annelise get down!" You yell as you grab her from behind and pull her down behind the log.

The MQ-8 at that moment launches a missile right where Annelise was standing scant seconds before. You feel a wave of heat wash over you as the missile plows into the ground a few feet away, but the log manages to shield you and Annelise from the worst effects of the blast.

"W-what the?!" Annelise gasps. "What are you-"

"Told you they didn't want you back." You grunt.

The MQ-8 pauses for a second, its camera mount swiveling from side to side to confirm the kill. Unsatisfied, the MQ-8 lowers altitude to prepare a followup shot.

Tarin then emerges from the trees, handgun drawn and ready. It's not enough to take down the MQ-8, but her precision fire plants holes near the sensor turret, forcing the MQ-8 to back off as it tries to reassess the situation.

"Come on!" Vicky yells as she pulls both you and Annelise to your feet. "Let's go! It can't follow us in the trees!"

You half follow Vicky and half drag Annelise back to the treeline as Tarin lays down covering fire. The MQ-8 climbs away to a safe distance.

"It's going to come back around." Tarin warns. "From the looks of it, it has three missiles left."

"W-we should head back to the house!" Vicky suggests.

"And lead the drone back there? Can't be done." Tarin shakes her head. "We have to find some way to get rid of that drone first or wait for backup. Karla would be sure to have noticed the blast."

"Or..." You glance at Annelise. "You still have the phone, right?"

"I-I don't know what you're talking about." Annelise looks away awkwardly like a child caught in a lie.

"Come on, no sense lying about it now." You sigh. "You still have it?"

"Y-yes." Annelise nods.

"You're not thinking about doing what I think you're doing." Tarin raises an eyebrow.

"Well, it doesn't seem like we have many other options." You point out.

"We're leaving it to you, then, Tarin!" You nod as you toss the stolen phone to her.

"Just be sure to bring back help as soon as you can." Tarin says simply before sprinting deeper into the forest.

Overhead, you can hear the buzzing of the MQ-8's rotors as it homes in on the phone's signal. There's another distant explosion as a missile is fired off. Hopefully Tarin was able to avoid that.

"Okay, let's take the chance to get back to the house!" You nod to Vicky and Annelise. "Annelise, can you move?"

"Um, y-yeah." Annelise nods, still in shock at the recent events.

You resist the urge to remind Annelise that what she did was kinda dumb blindly trusting her "comrades" and endangered everybody. The surprised, shocked expressions on Annelise's face were big giveaways that she was just as confused and scared as any other person in these parts.

In the background, you continue to hear a distant explosion. Guess Tarin was still alive at the moment. That drone SHOULD only have one missile left. Maybe it'll disengage once it runs out of ammo.

Finally, you return to Karla's house. You swear that there's now more people in the property, as you see lots of movement.

"There you all are!" Karla, relieved, as she exits the house to meet you. "Hurry! Get inside!"

"Tarin's drawing a drone away from the house!" You point out.

"Yes, we're already well aware of the drone in the area." Karla nods and grins. "It's a good thing we're prepared!"

Suddenly, out of the backdoor comes Amy, casually lugging a missile launcher over her shoulder.

"Still can't escape trouble, huh, Milly?" Amy laughs.

However, you're too bewildered at the fact that she's lugging a massive missile launcher. Did she always travel around with one? Or had Karla bee keeping this tucked away in the house all this time?

Both alternatives concerned you greatly.

"Well, that was fun!" Amy says happily, her hair still singed and smoking.

"The drone nearly crashed on top of you when you shot it down." Tarin points out.

"Made things more exciting! Would've been boring if it just went poof!" Amy waves off Tarin's concern.

"I'm still curious how you managed to smuggle a MANPADS into Belka." Karla sighs as she sets the table.

"Same way I managed to get an entire A-10 in." Amy shrugs. "Your uncle is scarily connected."

"That he is." Karla nods.

Meanwhile, you, Vicky, and Annelise were just sitting at the table in awkward silence, still processing what the hell just happened.

"Anyways, Bandit and Misono on their way over as well. That way we can get everything coordinated."

"She's just scared and confused." You point out. "I mean, her own side just tried to kill her... twice."

"Huh, so she's got something over you, then." Amy nods. "All right, I get it. So are we gonna get the assholes who sent that thing?"

"That's what we're trying to plan out." Karla sighs.

Suddenly, there's a knock on the door. Annelise jumps a bit in her seat, along with Vicky, but Karla and Tarin don't seem to be bothered.

"It's open, you can come on in!" Karla calls out.

The door then opens as Bandit and Misono enter. Bandit doesn't seem too different, but Misono was in a state of awe.

"So this is Valkyrie's very own home! And she and Magnet are here, too! This is a wonderful day!"

"Heh, guess we're still famous, huh?" Amy laughs.

"Unfortunately." Karla laughs lightly as well.

"Red. Vicky. Good to see you two are fine." Bandit says simply.

"Of course, Boss!" You grin.

"Okay, now that we're all here-" Karla pauses when her phone suddenly rings. "Just a second."

Karla picks up her phone. A second or two passes and she quickly motions to Tarin, pointing towards the television across the dining table. Tarin swiftly grabs the remote and turns it on.

The screen winks on, to show what appears to be a helicopter view of... Grunder headquarters?!

"This is ONN, reporting to you live from North Osea!" The reporter announces. "We've just received word that Osean law enforcement are converging on the headquarters of Grunder Industries, in an apparent surprise raid!"

Sure enough, the camera pans down to show a massive convoy of police cars, vans, and trucks, their lights flashing as they speed down the road towards Grunder. They're supported in the air by a fleet of helicopters, both police and civilian.

"Well it's about damn time." You grunt. "They should've done this sooner."

"Honestly, they should have." Karla nods. "I suppose they found a big lead, or they simply couldn't afford to wait anymore."

"I'm sure the attack on Dinsmark Base was enough to convince them to act." Bandit shakes his head. "But I'm sure Grunder will be prepared in one way or another."

"It doesn't appear that the Grunder staff are putting up any resistance." The reporter narrates as the police convoy barges through the front security gate. A few of the cars screech to a halt as officers pile out to neutralize the guard staff. The rest of the convoy continues on to the main campus.

"W-wait! Something's going on over there!"

The camera then swivels to the side, where a massive, camouflaged hangar door built into the side of the Waldreich Mountain range begins to creak open.

And that's when it appears.

"It... it' looks like the Arkbird!" The reporter sputters. "An Arkbird has just emerged from the mountains and it looks like it's about to take off!"

Sure enough, the Arkbird II begins to pick up speed as it rolls out of its hangar. The police are powerless to stop it as it rolls away, its engines glowing as they activate.

The camera view is jostled as a pair of Osean F-15s blast past. Looks like they were prepared for something to go down, but not something like this.

Suddenly, ports open in the back of the Arkbird II as drones are launched out like cannonballs. And not just any drones, Ravens! The damn thing was exclusively packing Raven drones!

You see Annelise shudder at the sight. She must have finally realized where all her hard work and sacrifice had amounted to.

Suddenly, the feed cuts out, and the screen quickly swaps back to the ONN newsroom.

"It appears our team in the field is suffering technical difficulties." The anchor says, trying to stay calm. "Please stay tuned as we will report additional information as it comes in."

And that's when everybody's phones start ringing.

You already know that your call was an emergency summons from the base. An immediate scramble order. Karla picks up her phone.

"Yeah, it looks like they're finally playing their last card." Karla nods. "I hope we've got enough to stop it."

"Red, we have to go." Bandit says grimly. "It seems like the Arkbird II has turned north and is entering Belkan airspace."

You then glance at Annelise, who was still sitting meekly in her seat.

"Karla, can we leave Annelise with you?" You ask.

"Of course." Karla nods. "Don't worry, we'll make sure she stays safe.

You dash out with the rest of your squadron as you pile into the car Bandit and Misono took here. Bandit takes the wheel and takes off.

Honestly, it was a very surreal experience, knowing about an imminent threat to Belka's security was incoming, while outside, everybody was still going about their day like nothing was happening.

"S-so you think that the Arkbird II is going to attack Belka?" Vicky gulps.

>Of course not. It's the shortest route to their launch ramp.

To be fair, nuking ourselves is why Belka still exists. It worked with minimal casualties. Besides they'd gain nothing

"Of course not, it's the shortest route to their launch ramp." You grunt.

"Command is not willing to take that risk." Bandit grunts. "Projections show that the Arkbird II's flight path will take it directly over Dinsmark in two hours. A state of emergency has been declared on the entire continent."

"That means foreign nations will be involved?" Misono asks.

"Command has already sent a request for assistance to the IUN." Bandit explains. "The primary concern is that the Belkan air force alone will not be enough to stop this thing."

"Guess we do need all the help we can get." You grumble reluctantly.

Soon enough, you're back at the base, which was still looking to be in rough shape due to the recent attack. However, it was still active, with activity all over the runway as planes were quickly being armed and prepped for takeoff.

Meanwhile, more and more civilian cars were driving in as off duty staff and pilots are called in en masse to respond to the emergency.

"Looks like it's all hands on deck." Vicky observes.

"It's the moment of truth, now." Misono nods. "This will be the first time Belka will be facing an opponent of this caliber, correct?"

"Not since the Belkan War." Bandit nods.

"This is honestly pretty exciting!" You grin. "Not every day you can take down giant prey like this!"

"I guess I shouldn't be surprised you're brimming full of confidence on this." Bandit nods. "All right, time to get out. We need to get to the briefing."

Bandit parks the car and the four of you exit. Already, you could see dozens of pilots, both in uniform and in civvies, dashing towards the briefing room. You and your squadronmates follow suit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-Vi5y0UlLY

The briefing room is absolutely packed, with seemingly almost every active pilot having been summoned. Looks like Command was going all out on this. The entire room was abuzz with conversation. Many of the pilots here still didn't know what was going on, only that they were called on short notice. However, they all knew it was something serious.

"Pilots, it's good to see that you've come on such short notice." The wing commander appears at the podium. "We don't have much time so I'll get straight to the point. A massive aerial superweapon codenamed the Arkbird II has launched from Grunder Industries headquarters in North Osea. Fifteen minutes ago, it breached Belkan airspace and is flying north. The current projections are that it will reach Dinsmark in two hours."

A projector then winks on, showing low quality stills of the Arkbird II in the air. There's a wave of mumbling through the crowd.

"Consider this vehicle to be equivalent to an Arsenal Bird." The wing commander continues. "It is armed with numerous pulse laser turrets, missile launchers, and a heavy laser cannon. It also carries its own defensive compliment of drones. Fortunately, it does not appear to be equipped with the microwave shielding the Arsenal Birds carried."

"So how do we even fight this thing?" One of the pilots speaks up. "Don't tell me we're just going to suicide charge it!"

"Unfortunately, swarming it from all sides is about all we can do at the moment." The wing commander shakes his head. "Our analysts are still searching for potential weaknesses, but in the meantime, this thing cannot be allowed to reach Dinsmark. To that effect, Command has authorized foreign air forces to assist us."

The screen switches to a map view of Belka. A large red arrow marks the Arkbird II's path, while numerous smaller blue arrows appear, converging on the Arkbird II.

"We will engage the Arkbird II from the north to cut off or at least divert its flight path. Osea, Ustio, and Sapin have also committed squadrons to this effort and they will pursue from the south. Finally, mercenaries have been employed on an emergency basis and they will be arriving from the east."

More murmuring.

"Of course, we don't have the capacity to launch all our planes at once, so we will have to launch and engage the Arkbird in waves." The wing commander concludes. "Are there any squadrons willing to volunteer to be in the first wave?"

You quietly nudge Bandit's side. Of course you should be going in on the first wave!

"Of course, I was thinking the same, too." Bandit nods as he raises his hand. "Raven Squadron will volunteer to be part of the first wave."

Stepping up like that seems to encourage the other squadrons, and a few more squadrons volunteer to be a part of the first wave, as well.

"Pilots of the first wave, report to your aircraft." The wing commander instructs. "Make sure your fighters are in working order and await further instructions.

With that, you and your squadmates exist the briefing room and head for the hangar where your planes are being kept. There, the ground crews were already prepping your planes to take off.

"Oh! There you are!" One of the ground crew slides to a stop. "We're ready to load up your planes! What do you want?"

Hm, well, your Wyvern was currently rocking the railgun, which packed a huge punch, but was large and heavy. Maybe you could use something else?

"Keep the railgun!" You instruct the ground crew.

The ground crew simply salute and get to work.

In the meantime, you and the others quickly get changed into your g-suits and head back out. You settle into your cockpit, where Swallow loyally greets you.

"ALL SYSTEMS OPERATIONAL." Swallow reports. "REVIEWING PAST COMBAT DATA, I HAVE A SUGGESTION REGARDING THE EML."

"Go ahead." You say as you go through your startup checklist.

"I BELIEVE IT IS POSSIBLE TO ROUTE ADDITIONAL POWER INTO THE EML TO FIRE A THREE ROUND BURST." Swallow explains. "HOWEVER, THIS DOES LEAVE THE LIKELIHOOD THAT THE EML WILL OVERHEAT AFTER EXTENDED USE."

"Keep it the way it is, Swallow." You tell it. "I don't want to risk it blowing up in my face in a fight like this."

"ACKNOWLEDGED." Swallow replies.

"All right, we've received clearance to head to the runway." Bandit informs you all over the radio. "Is everybody ready?"

"Ready!" Vicky calls.

"Ready!" MIsono reports.

"Ready!" You confirm.

"All right, Raven Squadron, prepare for takeoff." Bandit orders.

Soon enough, it's your squadron's turn for takeoff. Up ahead, you could see at least a couple of squadrons that had taken off before you, and were already heading off to intercept the Arkbird II.

Suddenly, your radio buzzes as a new voice butts in.

"Hello? Hello? This is AWACS Brighteye. I'll be the air controller for this operation!"

You vaguely remember Brighteye being involved in some of your IUN missions. Guess they were scrambled out here as well.

"Raven Squadron, you're on course to intercept the Akrbird II in ten minutes." Brighteye continues. "You still have time to link up with allied forces as part of the first attack wave. Currently, squadrons from the Belkan Air Force will intercept the Arkbird II at the same time as Orpheus Squadron and Flamenco Squadron from Ustio and Sapin. You're in position to link up with either force!"

"Brighteye, vector us in on the Belkan friendlies." Bandit requests.

"Roger roger! I'm tagging them on your HUD right now!"

And just like that, several blue contacts wink on, showing you the locations of Grun, Schnee, and Indigo Squadrons. Looks like they were all first the answer the call, too.

"Good to see you with us, Raven!" Grun Lead says happily.

"Let's show these invaders that we won't let them fly Belka's skies at their leisure!" Schnee Lead joins in.

"Maybe we can down this thing before the Oseans even get here!" Indigo Lead says hopefully.

However, amid all of this friendly banter, the massive radar contact of the Arkbird II blinks on your radar screen menacingly. A constant reminder of the imminent danger you were all about to confront head on.

You hope you were ready for it.
